Today we will continue reading the Book of Revelation, Chapters 13 and 14. We will also look at Matthew 10:28-33 and Matthew 16:24-27 in relation to our reading today.

Today we will read and compare the difference between worshipping an idol vs worshipping God, being marked with God's seal vs being marked with the seal of the world, and the difference between valuing physical life vs spiritual life. In each of these situations we see that one way leads to eternal death and the other to eternal life with promise of reward and rest. We will be reminded that we need to continue to worship God and follow Jesus, trusting in God, enduring difficult times even when it looks like evil is winning over good, because God's big picture tells us that He is still in control and we have won over sin, gaining us eternal life.  It may look like we have lost the battle, but in reality, we have won the war. Take heart, dear brothers and sisters, and don't lose sight of the fact that eternal life is worth far more than our physical, finite life.

Introduction to Daily Bible Reading

00:00:02
Speaker
Hello, hello everybody! Today is December 27th. My name is Robin. I'm with In the Family Way Coaching and together we are here for our daily Bible reading through the Day by Day Kids Bible written by Karen Henley.
00:00:18
Speaker
Thank you so much for joining me again today. i hope that you have been enjoying your Christmas holiday week and that you are having a fantastic weekend if this is a weekend for you. In 2025, this is a Saturday.
00:00:30
Speaker
And for me, this is my day off. And I have been enjoying it. So I hope that you have also been enjoying it too.

Spiritual vs Physical Life

00:00:39
Speaker
If you are using the day-by-day bookmarking commitment calendar or any other type of calendar to mark off your days, go ahead and get that out and get your sticker ready because we are about to hear the Bible today.
00:00:55
Speaker
We are going to be continuing today in Revelation in chapters 12 or 13 rather, 13 and 14. And today we are going to be putting together and making connection pieces of what we have been learning throughout the year.

Belief in Jesus and Division

00:01:15
Speaker
Jesus taught us a lot of things, and one of the things that he made sure to teach us is that it is more important for us to value our spiritual life than it is to value our physical life.
00:01:31
Speaker
Jesus puts it as wanting to keep your physical life versus and putting versus your spiritual life. And there's a particular verse that when Jesus was sending, ah was getting ready to be crucified, he was explaining as he sent out the disciples that that they were not to fear people because He tells us in Matthew chapter 10, verse 28, he's talking about people that after he is gone, people will be persecuting the apostles. Some of them would be put to death. People would be against them.
00:02:14
Speaker
Parents would be against children. Children would be against parents, mother against father. People would be divided because of him and their belief or disbelief in him as their savior.

Perseverance in Revelation

00:02:27
Speaker
And Jesus gave us some very important advice here. He tells us in Matthew chapter 10 verses 28, Do not fear those who kill the body, but cannot kill the soul.
00:02:43
Speaker
Rather, fear him who can destroy both soul and body in hell. Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? And not one of them will fall to the ground apart from your father.
00:02:59
Speaker
But even the hairs of your head are all numbered. So fear not, therefore, because you are of more value than many sparrows.
00:03:13
Speaker
So everyone who acknowledges me before men, I also will acknowledge before my father who is in heaven. But whoever denies me before men, I also will deny my father before my father who is in heaven.
00:03:31
Speaker
So Jesus is telling us that if we turn away from him, he will turn away from me.

Challenges of Idolatry

00:03:38
Speaker
And on the flip side of that coin, we have been taught draw near to God and he will draw near to you.
00:03:45
Speaker
So whatever we do is what God returns to. So with that in mind, we're going to be looking at a very difficult portion of Revelation tonight where we see that there is a beast who has been given power who will even win over the believers.
00:04:06
Speaker
And the response to this is that the believers must continue to have faith in Jesus and to obey God and Jesus despite this.

Faith in Modern Times

00:04:19
Speaker
This is perseverance, and it is very important. So the people who are living and who are believers during the time that this particular event is going to be taking place, it's going to be a bad situation going on on earth.
00:04:36
Speaker
And people will be worshiping beast, an idol. And it will fool many people. But we need to remember, and the people who are around during that time need to stay firm in their commitment to keep following Jesus no matter what.

The Beast and Its Impact

00:04:55
Speaker
So you might be thinking that this is not relevant for us today because we're not in that time. This is not something that will just come about. We have to also be firm in our faith as well today. And we may not be facing things like um a beast who is commanding everybody to worship under the ah consequence of death.
00:05:22
Speaker
But we have many things in our lives every day that we need to stay away from and to remain firm in Jesus with. Anything can be an idol. Money can be an idol. Even other relationships and people, we can idolize people. Anything that is taking us away from God. Our jobs, we can put our job and our work or even sometimes our family as more important than God.
00:05:52
Speaker
And that is not the order of priority. There is another verse I wanted to share with us today. Jesus tells us in Matthew chapter 16, verses 24 through 27, he he tells us, Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me.
00:06:22
Speaker
For whoever wants to save their life will lose it, but whoever loses their life for me will find it. What good will it be for someone to gain the whole world and yet forfeit their soul?
00:06:38
Speaker
Or who can what can anyone give in exchange for their soul? For the Son of Man is going to come in His Father's glory with His angels, and then He will reward each person according to what they have done.
00:06:55
Speaker
And we're going to be reading that tonight too in Revelation. And God will be making the promise that those who die for the Lord will have a reward.
00:07:08
Speaker
God has not forgotten the promises that he made through Jesus. So we are seeing that Jesus gave us these ah advisements and these lessons to learn while he was still here with us. And they are recorded in what we refer to as the gospel, which means good news.
00:07:31
Speaker
So with that in mind tonight, I want us to focus on that as we read tonight's reading in Revelation chapters 13 and 14. Because we are going to be hearing that same message tonight in the Revelation.
00:07:46
Speaker
So this is important for us to make the connection to understand the big picture. And it is still all about Jesus and worshiping God, who is our Father, who created everything.
00:08:04
Speaker
And we left off yesterday that Satan had been tossed down onto the earth and that he is very angry because he's been tossed down. And so he has chased after ah Israel and her children, which are the believers in Jesus.
00:08:23
Speaker
It says that when the earth helped the woman, the earth opened up and it drank the dragon's river, which made the dragon roar with anger. And he left to fight the rest of the women's the woman's children.
00:08:38
Speaker
And they are the ones who follow God's way. They believe in Jesus.
00:08:46
Speaker
Then the dragon stood at the edge of the sea and an animal came up out of the sea It had seven heads and it had seven

Nature of Tribulations

00:08:57
Speaker
horns. I'm sorry, ten horns. It had seven heads and ten horns.
00:09:02
Speaker
And there were ten crowns on its horns. And each horn had a bad name against God on it. The animal looked like a leopard, but it had a bear's feet and it had a lion's mouth.
00:09:19
Speaker
The dragon gave its own power to the animal. and it let the animal rule.
00:09:27
Speaker
It looked like one of the animal's heads was hurt, and it looked like it was hurt badly enough to die, but the hurt place had gotten well.
00:09:40
Speaker
Our Big Bible says that one of the heads seemed to have been killed, but the fatal wound was healed, and the whole earth was amazed and followed the beast.
00:09:53
Speaker
They worshiped the dragon because he had been given authority to the beast. He had given authority to the beast. And they also worshiped the beast, chanting, who is like the beast and who can make war against him?
00:10:11
Speaker
So all of the world was surprised and they followed this animal. People worshipped the dragon because he had let the animal rule. And they worshipped the animal rule.
00:10:22
Speaker
They worshipped the animal. And they said that no one is greater than the animal. No one can fight him and win. The animal was able to rule for 42 months.
00:10:35
Speaker
you will notice that there is stated in different ways a three and a half year period for all of these different things that go on. 42 months is three and a half years. 1260 days is also three and a half years. So I just wanted to make that clear that when we see there, it's given in a bunch of different um ways, but they do all equate to three and a half years.

Mark of the Beast Symbolism

00:11:02
Speaker
So we're talking about a temporary period of time. We can hold out knowing that there will be an end to the time. God gives us these times. That way we will not become frustrated that it will seem like it is never ending. And how long will this go on? So God is so gracious to tell us how long these things are going to happen. It gives us hope that we can see the end in sight.
00:11:31
Speaker
We need to know that there is always going to be an end to something. And we may not always see it, but there will be an end to things. They don't just go on forever.
00:11:46
Speaker
The animal was able to rule for 42 months. He said bad things about God. He said bad things about where God lives too.
00:11:58
Speaker
And he said bad things about all who live in heaven. Now the animal had power to fight against God's people. He had power to win over God's people.
00:12:12
Speaker
And he could rule over all people in groups. He could rule over all languages and nations. But people whose names are written in the book of life will not worship the animal.
00:12:29
Speaker
But all the other people on earth will worship it.
00:12:35
Speaker
In our big Bible, it says... All who dwell on the earth, it says, er when he opened his mouth, the animal opened his mouth with blasphemies against God to slander his name and his tabernacle, that is those dwelling in heaven.
00:12:54
Speaker
And he was also permitted to make war against the saints and to overcome them. And he was given authority over every tribe and people and tongue and nation.
00:13:06
Speaker
All who dwell on earth shall worship him. Everyone whose name has not been written from the foundation of the world in the book of life of the Lamb who was slain.
00:13:18
Speaker
If anyone has an ear, let him hear. If anyone is meant for captivity, to captivity he goes.
00:13:29
Speaker
If anyone is to be killed by the sword, by the sword he must be killed. Here is the perseverance and faith of the saints.
00:13:44
Speaker
God's people. This means that God's people must wait quietly. This means that they must keep following God no matter what.
00:13:58
Speaker
Then another animal came out of the earth, and he had two horns like a lamb. but he talked like a dragon and he ruled for the first animal. He made people worship the first animal and he even did great wonders.
00:14:13
Speaker
He made fire come from heaven to earth and everybody could see it. And so he fooled people. He said that people had to build an idol.
00:14:27
Speaker
It had to be an idol of the first animal.
00:14:33
Speaker
When we see this, we're talking about, do you remember we read about in the Old Covenant, I believe it was in the book of Daniel, when there was a statue of Nebuchadnezzar. And all of the people were told that they needed to worship it.
00:14:48
Speaker
And Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, they refused to worship this. And so they were thrown into the fire. And yet God rescued them.
00:15:01
Speaker
They did not bow down and worship the idol. An idol can look like a statue to a person. And so I want us to keep that in mind as we refer to the people as animals.
00:15:19
Speaker
It had to be an idol of the first animal, and it was to show that the first animal was great. The second animal made the idol talk.
00:15:31
Speaker
And if anybody would not worship it, they would be killed. He made all the people get a mark on their right hand or on their forehead.
00:15:42
Speaker
People might be small or great. They might be rich or poor. They might be free people or slaves. But they all had to get the mark.
00:15:54
Speaker
And nobody could even buy anything without this mark. They couldn't sell anything without the mark. And the mark is the animal's name. Or it is the number of his name.
00:16:08
Speaker
Think wisely. If anybody understands, then he can figure out the animal's number. It is man's number. His number is 666.
00:16:20
Speaker
six six
00:16:25
Speaker
Then I looked up and Jesus the Lamb was standing on Zion mountain. He was right in front of me. the one hundred And the 144,000 people stood with him.
00:16:39
Speaker
Jesus's name and God the Father's name were written on their foreheads. Do you see the contrast of being marked by God with his seal and being marked by the Spirit?
00:16:52
Speaker
Our enemy, the adversary, he wants to copy what God does. He lies. While God seals with everlasting life, our enemy, he seals with death.
00:17:09
Speaker
i want us to see and understand that comparison between the two.
00:17:16
Speaker
Then the sound of roaring water came from heaven. And I heard the sound of loud thunder. I heard the sound of people playing harps.

Harvest Imagery and Judgment

00:17:28
Speaker
They stood in front of the king. You know who the king is, right? That's God. They stood in front of the four living beings and the their leaders, the leaders.
00:17:43
Speaker
And they were singing a new song. But only the 144,000 people could learn that song. And they had been saved from the earth.
00:17:56
Speaker
They had kept their hearts clean and sinless. They follow the Lamb no matter where he goes. He bought them.
00:18:08
Speaker
They are the first ones given to God and his son, the Lamb. They did not lie. They have not done anything wrong that anyone can blame them for.
00:18:21
Speaker
Then another angel came flying in the air and he had the good news that never ends. He was going to tell it to everybody on earth.
00:18:34
Speaker
He would tell it to all nations and groups. He would tell it to all languages and people. This reminds me of the Holy Spirit.
00:18:46
Speaker
The angel called out loudly, look up to God, let his greatness shine. it is time for him to judge, worship him.
00:18:59
Speaker
He made the sky and all of space, earth, seas and rivers. So I want to contrast for us again the difference between worshiping the beast and that idol versus worshiping God.
00:19:16
Speaker
One leads to eternal life and one leads to eternal death.
00:19:24
Speaker
A second angel called out, Fallen! Great Babylon has fallen! This city turned away from God and all of the nations have been hurt by Babylon's sin.
00:19:40
Speaker
see remember we are still on the winning side, even if it looks like a battle has been lost. We need to remember the big picture.
00:19:50
Speaker
third angel called loudly, What happens if someone worships the animal? What if someone worships his idol? What if someone gets his mark on the hand or forehead?
00:20:06
Speaker
Then that person will feel God's anger. That person will have times of trouble and hurting forever. People who worship the animal will never get to rest.
00:20:21
Speaker
but And people who get his mark will not get to rest.
00:20:27
Speaker
I'm going to read this out of our big Bible too.
00:20:34
Speaker
Verse 12. It tells us first in our version, this means that people who obey God will have to wait quietly.
00:20:47
Speaker
They will have to keep following Jesus. no matter what. Our big Bible says, here is the perseverance of the saints.
00:20:59
Speaker
Remember, we've also learned about endurance this year. Endurance, knowing that Jesus suffered, but he knew that he was suffering for our good, and he persevered, even to death on a cross.
00:21:14
Speaker
And we are meant to follow with him.
00:21:20
Speaker
Here is the perseverance of the saints, those who keep the commandments of God and the faith of Jesus. Then I heard a voice from heaven saying, Write this, How fortunate are the dead, those who die in the Lord from now on.
00:21:43
Speaker
Yes, says the Spirit, that they may rest from their labors for their deeds follow them. Do you see the contrast?
00:21:53
Speaker
Those who worship the beast and the idol will have no rest. However, those who worship God will have rest and good will come to them.
00:22:10
Speaker
God will bring good things to his people who die from now on. Yes, said the Spirit, they will rest from their work, and the good things they do go with them.
00:22:24
Speaker
The good things that we do go with us. A white cloud came in front of me, and someone who looked like a man was sitting on it.
00:22:37
Speaker
He wore a gold crown on his head and he held a sharp blade in his hand. Then another angel came out of God's worship house. He called loudly, Take your blade.
00:22:51
Speaker
The crop has grown. It is ready now. It is time to cut and gather it in.
00:23:00
Speaker
So the man swung his blade over the earth and the crop was gathered in. Do you remember Jesus telling us that the harvest is ripe?

Working in God's Field

00:23:11
Speaker
It is ripe for gathering. This is what Jesus is also talking about here.
00:23:20
Speaker
an angel came out of God's worship house and he had a sharp blade too. And then another angel came from the altar. He called loudly to the one with the sharp blade.
00:23:33
Speaker
Take your sharp blade, he said, and gather up the grapes from the earth's vine. Its grapes are ready. So the angel swung his blade over the earth and he gathered the grapes.
00:23:49
Speaker
He threw them into a big tub and it was a tub that showed God's anger. That is where the grapes would be pressed to make wine.
00:24:01
Speaker
They were pressed down in the big tub and blood flowed out of the press tub. It got as high as the mouths of the horses.
00:24:14
Speaker
So we see the contrast there as well, that whereas the fields are ripe for harvest, for those who are ready to believe, the it was referring to the barley harvest.
00:24:27
Speaker
When we learned about Passover, we talked about the fact that this was at the barley harvest time. And Jesus told his disciples to look out, see the fields are ripe for harvest. Pray that God will send workers for the harvest.
00:24:43
Speaker
That should still be our prayer today, that we pray for workers in the field. We are the workers of God's field.
00:24:54
Speaker
And we are the barley that is ripe for harvest. Other people are ready to believe, and they are also ripe for the harvest. They just need to be told about God's good news.
00:25:07
Speaker
On in contrast, we see that the grapes, those who do not choose to believe they are pressed in God's tub of anger and they are pressed and there is blood and it's not Jesus's blood we're referring to.

God's Plan for Eternal Life

00:25:24
Speaker
It's their own because they have chosen to save their life and yet they have lost it.
00:25:32
Speaker
And that is the end of our reading to today. So I hope that you are understanding the big picture of what we have learned this year and how everything is being brought together with all of its pieces to form the big picture of of God's plan for us and for all of us, all for all of his people, for life.
00:25:57
Speaker
He has a plan. God is in charge and he doesn't do anything without telling us what he is going to do. that we may bring glory to him, that we may have the opportunity to to receive his gift of salvation, that we have time to turn around and follow him and be faithful to him and to believe in Jesus.
00:26:23
Speaker
He is not slow to come back as we think of in terms of slow. God is infinite. And it can be difficult for those of us who are not, we are we are finite here on earth, and it can be difficult to grasp that concept of eternal life.
00:26:42
Speaker
I was talking with someone one at work just yesterday, and they said that the most difficult concept that they had was the thought that there would just always be another tomorrow.
00:26:55
Speaker
They just couldn't imagine. It was just so they couldn't wrap their mind around it. That the concept of eternity was just too big for them to grasp.
00:27:07
Speaker
It is a big concept because our God is infinite. He has always lived and he will continue to live and he lives now. And this eternal life is something that he gives us to share in with him.
00:27:23
Speaker
When we receive eternal life with Him, we will never have to taste death. We will not be finite. We will be eternal with Him and live forever with Him.
00:27:37
Speaker
oh let's praise God. The angel today had a prayer. he sin He called out loudly, Look up to God.
00:27:48
Speaker
Let His greatness shine. Worship him. He made the sky and all of space, earth, seas, and rivers.
00:28:01
Speaker
And it also reminds me of the prayer that Jesus taught us, the one that we refer to as the Lord's Prayer. Our Father who is in heaven, hallowed be your name.
00:28:14
Speaker
Your kingdom come and your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread and forgive us of our sins as we forgive those who sin against us.
00:28:30
Speaker
Don't lead us into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. In Jesus' name we pray, amen.

Endurance in Faith

00:28:45
Speaker
May we always remember to worship and glorify our Father in heaven who is infinite and who has given us the beautiful gift of eternal life with him.
00:28:57
Speaker
Don't fear those who can take away our physical body. Fear the one who can take away both the physical body and the soul. It won't do us any good to save our life if we lose our soul in the process.
00:29:14
Speaker
God tells us that when these difficult time comes, we must be patient. Those who are too expected to be led into captivity, which means jail, for those who are sent to prison or jail, that is where they will have to go.
00:29:31
Speaker
Trusting God all the way that this is his will and he will work good through it. They are to persevere and endure just as Jesus did and the apostles.
00:29:43
Speaker
Those who are meant to die by the sword, we may not die by swords anymore, but for those who are meant to die, they will die. And yet they must continue to endure.
00:29:55
Speaker
Just like Stephen was the first martyr to die after Jesus died and returned, ascended rather. and I want to remind us and give us hope that when Stephen was going through his death sentence,
00:30:12
Speaker
that we know that from from testimony that he was able to see Jesus. So it implies that he was not feeling the pain from the stoning, but rather he was given a vision of Jesus and Jesus took him and he transitioned from this physical existence into his eternal existence.
00:30:37
Speaker
And he seems to have done so with joy. So for those who have to go through that, be comforted in knowing that Jesus is still always with us.
00:30:50
Speaker
Even to the end of the age, he is always with us, whether it is today 2025 or whether it is in the future. when so when earth and the is going through this time that we are reading about in Revelation.
00:31:08
Speaker
Jesus will never leave us. We only have to also remember to be faithful to him and not leave him so that he does not turn so he does he does not fail to acknowledge us to God. This a big responsibility. We have to remain faithful to him.

Reflecting on Bible Readings

00:31:27
Speaker
so that he will also remain faithful to us. And as we remain faithful to him, he will never, ever leave us or turn away from us, which is what forsake means.
00:31:40
Speaker
Well, I hope that you are encouraged. These are some very weighty readings that we have, but Karen Henley has done a great job in making it easy to understand. And as always, the Holy Spirit is helping us to understand the big picture so that we don't get bogged down by all of the details in the vision of what John was given.
00:32:01
Speaker
So I hope that you are encouraged and feel empowered. We spoke yesterday that we have won over sin. So while it may look like that person, whoever it is, who has been given power to win over the people, the believers.
00:32:18
Speaker
Remember, it's only for three and a half years. So I want you to take comfort in that, knowing that it it may look like a lost battle and it may look like ah it's a terrible thing because people die or get thrown into prison for the fact of their faith and the fact that they will not worship the beast or the idol.
00:32:39
Speaker
but we are strengthened by Jesus and it will only be for a time. And even if we lose our life, we we gain all of eternity and God has good things planned for us.
00:32:52
Speaker
Well, thank you for joining me for today's December 27th daily reading from the Day by Day Kids Bible written by Karen Henley. Before you go, i would like to encourage you to click your light button and show other people that they would that they would benefit from hearing God's word and knowing this message and knowing God's plan for us, knowing that he will never leave us no matter what.
00:33:16
Speaker
And I hope that you continue to have a festive week as we lead up to the end of the year. You may find if you are listening on a podcast other than YouTube music, that you will find that the name of the program changes. As we head into 2026, I will be changing the name of the podcast in order to continue ah being able to post and have ah different discussion topics of discussion for us next year in 2026.
00:33:49
Speaker
I hope that you will join me next year. And I wanted to give you something to think about that I

Podcast Format Changes

00:33:55

will be doing that. And then, of course, there will still be available the daily Bible readings from the Day by Day Kids Bible so that if you have not been with me from the beginning of the year, that you are encouraged to pick that up and start over from January 1st and then commit to listening to all of the ah big picture of the Bible this year or in next year. but You'll keep in mind, please, that as I have done this recording, that each day i will share sometimes things about what is going on in my life as part of our daily application. So one thing I just want to ah remind you of is that those events are past. but So where I have had times of struggle, they they have been resolved. God has been so gracious to resolve the issues that I shared.

And it's just been amazing. They were all opportunities to grow and share how the daily application was being used in my life in a real time basis. So don't be concerned if if I have concerns um because ah other than you know dealing with my daughter, which comes later, i think in the year, um Everything has just resolved itself and not resolved itself, but God has worked to bring resolution to these things in teaching me how to work through them with him.

So I just wanted you to be mindful of that. But if I, if you hear struggles, not to worry about those. They're they're all okay. Next year, we will be starting ah with looking at starting resolutions And so I will have some topics on looking at spiritual resolutions in working lifestyle changes that are lasting, that are spiritual lifestyle changes that we want to make. That's kind of what we've been doing this year as well as we work on our daily applications to see how the Bible is applicable every single day in our lives.

So we're going to be growing in that. And in January, I will be talking about resolutions and how we often make resolutions dealing with like our weight or trying to form new habits that are better for us. We will be looking at kind of choosing to make spiritual lifestyle changes rather than to focus on our internal beauty. rather than focusing on our external beauty, which many of us have a tendency to do after we've been gorging ourselves on our lovely holiday food and we think, oh, I've got to get to the gym.

We're going to be looking at our spiritual beauty rather than our physical beauty. Not that our physical body is not important to keep healthy, but just to make sure that we are not focusing on our on our physical beauty over our spiritual beauty.

So I hope that you will continue to join me in 2026, even if you are choosing to listen to the Bible readings and then to also listen to my newer discussion topics as as God gives me topics to discuss.
