Craig matthews : There's to a lot of squad rotation. um I'm confident we can beat Brighton at home.

Craig matthews : But we've hit the right team, get the goals early, make changes, we have to make changes. Give some of the younger players a time. Wainieri has a lot minutes recently.
Global Sports Podcast Network: Yeah.
Craig matthews : Luis Skelly, Ken Pacquiao, give them a chance at center back. Rest Gabriel.
Global Sports Podcast Network: Mascara?
Craig matthews : Mascara could get start as well. Ben White needs some minutes says well as well. He has a hardy play recently. He's got Timbers in great form. I would started Saka in this game because we've got a massive game on Saturday or Sunday against Burnley.

Craig matthews : so I would have rest Saka and put maybe Dowman or even... Give somebody else a chance. know Martino's injured, so Martino would have started, but he's injured. um Plus, I'd have to start because of Martino and up front.

Craig matthews : um god christmas about fighting again or maybe maybe um they come arena because up front i don't know i have to do yeah uh maybe they've got young strike in the academy maybe give him a chance to go off the bench or something give him little run out

Global Sports Podcast Network: oh Okay, well, while Craig does that research in the meantime, um I can't lie. i would like I'd like us to really rotate, but I don't want us to to go... I don't want to hear that we've made, like, 10 changes ahead of this game.
Global Sports Podcast Network: I'd like to hope that... we we could maybe, you know, maybe make five or six changes. um Kepa, I'd like to see Kepa start. Someone that Craig hasn't really mentioned. um And another player I'd like to see start is Norgard.
Global Sports Podcast Network: I think Norgard could have a really good part to play. And I think... for For players that are struggling for minutes, as Craig has mentioned, the likes of Ethan Waniere, you know, maybe give... I could maybe even say to maybe play Myles Lewis-Skelly a little further up in the midfield as well.
Global Sports Podcast Network: you know You know, I think he could be someone that could be played a bit more higher up in the game.
Craig matthews : I agree, yeah.
Global Sports Podcast Network: You know, you look at the the back four... Again, another another player that Craig mentioned, Hincapié. I'd like see Hincapié be given maybe an hour at least, maybe an hour to 70 minutes.
Craig matthews : Hmm.
Global Sports Podcast Network: I'd be very grateful for that. um I'll be at the game tomorrow, actually. So um um i'm um'm very looking for I'm very much looking forward to it. First, I believe it's my first Arsenal game. Yeah, it is my first Arsenal game in the season.
Global Sports Podcast Network: ah I could have had the chance to have gone to West Ham, but that was ah was a very painful day.

Global Sports Podcast Network: That was... um to not be able to get a ticket. But yeah, i'm I'm really looking forward to the game. I just hope that we'll bring an atmosphere at the Emirates.

Global Sports Podcast Network: You know, I've always spoken so heavily about atmospheres and you want to make the Emirates an intimidating ground.
Craig matthews : Hmm.

Global Sports Podcast Network: And I really hope that we can kind of, i don't care who it could be and I don't care what competition it could be, you know, whether it's the FA Cup, the Carabao Cup, we've we've got to be at full voice. um So me and my mate, we're going to be at the game.
Global Sports Podcast Network: We're not sitting together, but um he's sitting, I think, the block next next door to me. So um I've said to him, listen, mate, you need to get get your voices on.

Craig matthews : The young striker, I think he's been training the first time he looked this season. He plays for birth um on the 18, second year scholars. He's been training with the first team a couple times this season as well.

Craig matthews : Yeah. He played tonight. Arsenal played tonight. The Under-21 were playing tonight, so he might not play tomorrow. It's hardly any options, really. It's not really any forward options on the youth team.

Global Sports Podcast Network: I'd be, I would be really shocked if I saw Saka start.
Craig matthews : Yeah, definitely. and need
Global Sports Podcast Network: and And the thing is, right, like, no disrespect, but I understand it's Burnley coming up this weekend, but you want to have a fully rested squad for that game.
Craig matthews : Definitely.
Global Sports Podcast Network: You really want to have a fully rested squad for that game. um One player I do want to, you know, one player I do want to kind of talk about as well, um again, you know, I will bring him up, Norgard. Where do you see him? Where do you see him potentially for ah for Arsenal tomorrow?
Craig matthews : I think it's the start, maybe captain side as well. If there's no Saka, think he's a leader, he's a branch for a captain for a long time.
Global Sports Podcast Network: Yeah.
Craig matthews : I think even captain is him tomorrow.
Global Sports Podcast Network: Yeah.
Craig matthews : Gabriel's not playing, he'd be the captain to help the young players get through the pet the line. um ah yeah You're right, ah I would spot him and I would spot Luis Skelly in the fourth, you could put him back your left back or something, whatever was for me.

Craig matthews : Just give Skelly a chance in the fourth, see what he can do.
Global Sports Podcast Network: Yeah, so you potentially saying that maybe the midfield three could be a, ah say, ah midfield three of Itha Waniere, Norgard and, say, Mars Luskele?
Craig matthews : yeah Skelly in the eight no guard in the six and um Wainere in the ten
Global Sports Podcast Network: I mean, yeah.
Global Sports Podcast Network: In the 10. Oh my gosh, that could work. That could really work. And I mean, look... You could maybe give it to, you could give it at least the first half. Give it an hour.
Craig matthews : hmm hmm
Global Sports Podcast Network: Give it an hour. Unless we are really struggling. ah Unless we're really struggling, then, yeah, make your changes needed when when when when necessary. But again, i think you've got to go, you, I wouldn't go too heavy on the rotation.
Global Sports Podcast Network: And again, would you start Kepa as well?
Craig matthews : 100%. Kef is a cup keeper. He has to start in the cup games. He needs to play.
Global Sports Podcast Network: Yeah. Yeah.
Craig matthews : He's a good goal. He's against at number two, but he could definitely there for number one as well. So, he's hardly played recently. So, the last time he played was against um Port Vale in the cup game, I remember correctly.
Global Sports Podcast Network: Yeah.
Craig matthews : there's a lot them today so He played for a while. So, to keep him nice and sharp, need to give him a chance to play. He has to start.
Global Sports Podcast Network: Yeah, definitely. Again, you know, this is what this is what I've always dreamed of. We've we've all dreamed of this and it's depth. And we have that depth now to sit here and be like, you know what, we can go out there now and and throw ah at second team, mix a couple youngsters with, you know, players that need to, you know, with players that can, that have got experience.

Global Sports Podcast Network: I don't see how it can't work. Really can't see how it can't work. um Let's turn our attention to Brighton in the meantime. And one player I do want to talk about is it done is a certain man who goes by the name of Danny Welbeck.
Global Sports Podcast Network: Or as Arsenal fans knew him, that guy Welbs.
Craig matthews : Hmm.
Craig matthews : Hmm.
Global Sports Podcast Network: Now, he has caused a lot of havoc for Brighton in his past few games. Scored over the weekend against a former club in United.
Global Sports Podcast Network: Could potentially be back at the Emirates tomorrow. How do you sit how how can we stop how can we stop Danny Welbeck, who is in some form at the minute,
Craig matthews : keep him out of the 18-hour box. That's basically what he's 18-hour box. One thing about Daniel Robles, I don't think he gets the credit where he deserves it. I think he's been a good Premier League striker over the years. I know if people say goal scoring is not all that, but I think he's been a great player in the Premier League over the years. As he's gotten older, gotten better.
Global Sports Podcast Network: Yeah.
Craig matthews : Some players peak early, but as he's gotten older, become very good. I feel that, like, same with Emel Heskey, they're very and like good good good players but not getting the recognition that they deserve because of they they're not, like, he's good on the ice to some people.
Global Sports Podcast Network: yeah
Craig matthews : I think he does a good job. Like, even when Rooney was saying that, um well, that's a good striker to play with, but my man, I might not regret selling him. I do regret selling him in the end because when they sold him, they thought,
Craig matthews : Yeah, he's not that old that anymore. and this one but I was happy we got him. I know was very unlucky with injury at Arsenal, but thought he did a good job for us.

Craig matthews : He scored some crucial goals in crucial games as well. also you know It's a shame that he's not getting he doesn't get the credit where credit is due, but I respect him as a player. think he's a top-quality player.
Global Sports Podcast Network: Absolutely. Do you think, do you think potentially um there's a chance that um he could get a good reception coming back to the Emirates tomorrow if he starts?
Craig matthews : I think he will. When it comes to ex-players like Arsenal, if you leave on good terms, you'll get a good reception back. all the players who've come back to Arsenal recently have got a good reception.
Craig matthews : Edwin Ketler got a good reception. Smith-Rowe got a good reception coming back.
Global Sports Podcast Network: Yeah.
Craig matthews : Leno gets a good reception coming back to the Emirates. Only if only the ones that they boo is Martinez. I thought sometimes it was bit harsh because thought he did win us the FA Cup for Martinez, the FA Cup.
Global Sports Podcast Network: I was thinking that. And, you know, at that time back then, you know, as an Arsenal fan, it was it was so difficult, you know, when you had Leno go off against Brighton and it was during lockdown football as well.
Global Sports Podcast Network: And yeah was that ah there was that apprehension in me at the start where where I saw Martinez coming cold. Because, again, I could cast my mind back to Reading days.
Global Sports Podcast Network: Remember over Reading?
Craig matthews : a Yeah, i remember that game very well.
Global Sports Podcast Network: Very well. I mean, I remember sitting there. i think it was 4-0 Arsenal. I switched off. I switched the telly off. um And then I switched it back on before half-time.
Global Sports Podcast Network: Saw Walcott go and score. And I guess the rest is history from there on in. But um again, great keeper.
Craig matthews : Definitely.
Global Sports Podcast Network: and And again, I'll always be thankful to Martinez for us winning the FA Cup. But, you know, ah unfortunately... it was one of them where, you know, we let a good player slip through our fingers, unfortunately.
Craig matthews : Hmm.
Global Sports Podcast Network: so pun intended.
Craig matthews : definitely agree
Global Sports Podcast Network: But... um Yeah, I'd like to hope, with Welbeck though, I'd like to hope he gets a good reception back. um
Craig matthews : yeah
Global Sports Podcast Network: You know, again, ah when when you spoke about, you know, the the crucial moments he's been there for us, I never forget. For me, the the standout season, there's two seasons for me that stand out. um It's the cup win over...
Craig matthews : The Villa? The Villa one, wasn't it?
Global Sports Podcast Network: Yeah, but it was, I remember his goal against United...
Craig matthews : Same, I remember that game. but he went but about non de gayoff Yeah.
Global Sports Podcast Network: Remember that game as well. and And again, you know, as we spoke on yesterday's episode, I thought, you know, I thought to myself, ah, you know, he'll have his respect for you United. But no, he went and celebrated, didn't he?
Global Sports Podcast Network: Went and celebrated. and And the one goal that I'll never forget from Welbeck, actually, is Arsenal-Leicester 2015 at the Emirates.
Craig matthews : same ah head off yeah Came off the bench and scored the head of the winner.
Global Sports Podcast Network: Yeah, ah went crazy. I went berserk that day.
Craig matthews : That game was a great game to watch as well, man.
Global Sports Podcast Network: Do you know what, though? It's funny we speak of Welbeck. I have an England shirt. I have an England shirt from... What year was it that England were... Was it the Cup 2014? Brazil. Yeah. I've got...
Craig matthews : I think he was in that World Cup squad. Or the Euros. Euros are 20... Yeah, he was in that World Cup squad. The one in um in Brazil, right?

Craig matthews : He's playing Champions League football, so he can't complain. He's playing Champions football with Marseille, so I don't blame him.

Craig matthews : The Davis has played on Gruda.
Craig matthews : I don't know if he's fit now, but I think he's injured before. Gruden is a good player, German in shoulder. They've got some decent players looking at their squad. got the striker from Greece as well.
Craig matthews : Kontalas, I think he's famous.

Craig matthews : Yeah. They've got some decent players. Diego Gomez. They've got Veltman. They've got some decent players that we have to watch out for today, Jim.

Craig matthews : So, as long as we're on our A game, we should beat them constantly tomorrow. But Brighton have got a good record against us. Look at the Emirates over the years. Under Emery, Vengar.

Craig matthews : No, Under Emery. So, Emery that we lost against a couple of times.

Craig matthews : Arteta has kind of a couple of times as well. So, and they drew to us last season as well in the league, the last season at home. They drew us to home away last season, so have to be on an A game tomorrow.

Craig matthews : And their managers are very good. I like their manager as well. think he's a decent manager.

Craig matthews : I think he's... One field run, they always need to get... They get new managers in the... They're even better than the manager before. What is the progression of each manager they get?
Global Sports Podcast Network: you know what? It's a very good point you make because you you look at maybe Brighton's previous managers. um

Craig matthews : that was our No, it was um the other and again Chris Hewton was first.

Craig matthews : Yeah, that was his last season. it was his last season at the club. I think it was his second to last season.

Craig matthews : Because they brought in that guy from Barcelona on loan that season as well. Fatih is on loan on Monaco now.

Craig matthews : He was the guy. came to the first team, got the number 10 of Messi.

Craig matthews : He was the guy everyone thought was going to take over. And then he got a bad knee injury and after that, hasn't been the same since. So it's a shame really. But hopefully he can get his form back again at Monaco. Hopefully, man.

Craig matthews : second to first team players, like maybe World Bank will get a run out, maybe they'll just mix a match, obviously they've got a lot of games coming up as well, so lot of these cup games, a lot of these managers will not, maybe if you're a Newcastle or whatever, they'll pick their strongest squad in the game there after a couple of minutes theyre and a half, an after half-time they'll take off players, but because this, whole yeah,

Craig matthews : If Roos is fit, think Welbeck's on the bench. But if Roos is not fit, then Welbeck might start. He might not play the whole game, he might come on as an impact sub.

Craig matthews : Either or either, I would say. Maybe we'll start him, or we'll have him as a sub. But, either way, still ho what he's the dangerous player. Him and Mint are the two dangerous players for me in that team.

Global Sports Podcast Network: Because, look, if, for example, who's a good example I could potentially use? Okay, say if Ethan Waniere does really well, say does really well, plays and say he plays a full 90.

Global Sports Podcast Network: Surely that would make... and as much I love Eze. I absolutely love Eze. But surely if...

Global Sports Podcast Network: surely Surely players that play well and play the full 90 minutes, and especially for players that don't get enough game time, surely you would give the opportunity to go and play them on the weekend.
Craig matthews : Hmm. Hmm.
Craig matthews : but Even Lewis Skelly. Lewis Skelly had an amazing game against, I guess, Bledico last week.

Craig matthews : He was on the bench on side on Saturday. well On Sunday, sorry. well
Global Sports Podcast Network: Yeah.
Craig matthews : I think what Ates is doing this, I think he's going to play. think Lewis Skelly will get more games in the Champions League than in the league this season. I think he'll get more minutes in the Champions League.
Global Sports Podcast Network: ah Yeah, I agree.
Craig matthews : And the games. I think last season was... I think the reason why i' not starting a lot of games this season, I feel that Taylor Frizzman is in good form, number one.
Global Sports Podcast Network: Yeah, of course.
Craig matthews : And I feel that he, I think Arteta has taken him out spotlight lot this season because of his profile. He wants to make sure he just, just to humble him a little bit. Not humble him, but like just to make, bring him back down to earth.
Global Sports Podcast Network: But just to kind of like not get his hopes up too much, but also not overplay him.
Craig matthews : Yeah. Yeah. Because you've seen that in the past with young players and you overplay them, overplay them, overplay them, they get into you.
Global Sports Podcast Network: Yeah.
Craig matthews : We've seen many good players in the past overplayed them too much and they got injured and they'll never to say the same again. So I like what Arteta's doing with the younger players, but just wish... I honestly want Nifan Waineri to play more minutes. That's what my answer is. I want to get more minutes in the team.
Global Sports Podcast Network: Yeah, I agree as well, because we've we've seen we've we've seen his quality.
Craig matthews : Hmm.
Global Sports Podcast Network: We've really seen his quality and he has shone. Whenever he's played, he's shone. And what i like about Ethan Waniere is when he comes on, he's so attack-minded.
Craig matthews : Direct as well.
Global Sports Podcast Network: He's so, yeah, he's not one of them players that will think, oh, you know what, let me go and play the ball back. he will He will take the ball and will run with it and try and make something happen.
Craig matthews : Definitely.
Global Sports Podcast Network: And that's what we need to see tomorrow night. And if I could see that from Ethan Waniere, for me personally, ah but i love Eze and Eze's been playing really well as well.
Global Sports Podcast Network: So it's a headache that Arteta's going to have if, a obviously, Ethan plays the full 90, that is.
Craig matthews : ah
Global Sports Podcast Network: But...
Craig matthews : um And that's the question I asked last week, that would he learn about in January if he can't get enough minutes? it Because at the moment, other guys have injury problems. that have I don't want to call them injury but they haven't gone into the season more than and before.
Global Sports Podcast Network: Then before...
Craig matthews : And I thought that Eze is going to have to start at the 10th for a while. So I feel as a rotational option, Waniere should be the one that comes on for Eze in matches. I feel like he should be the guy that comes on because he can bring an impact.
Global Sports Podcast Network: give Yeah.
Craig matthews : I think he'll get enough minutes. I thought that between now and end of the season he'll get a lot of minutes. I think obviously it's still but if he's still in all the competitions in January, like League Cup, Premier Finals and FA Cup, he'll get minutes.
Global Sports Podcast Network: Yeah.
Craig matthews : But he has to be patient as well because I know a young player sometimes you're eager to play a lot.
Global Sports Podcast Network: i I get it, but I'd also say the same about Mars Lewis Skelly as well.
Craig matthews : Yeah, him as well. He's another one that's not played a of minutes.
Global Sports Podcast Network: him him and Him and Ethan are but are in the same boat here because they they all kind of look up to Saka. And now that they're getting regular they were getting regular minutes last season, they thought, oh, well, OK.
Global Sports Podcast Network: I think maybe they might have underestimated that they they've like managed to walk maybe walk into this team in a way. Do you know what mean?
Craig matthews : Definitely.
Global Sports Podcast Network: But now that we're we're we've brought through players in positions where we've needed them,
Craig matthews : Yeah.
Global Sports Podcast Network: I think, like you said, it's it has really kind of taught and also humbled both players in a way. But it also shows as well that, you know, whereas we've we've done it with Saka where we we get, you know, he gets burnt out.
Craig matthews : yeah
Global Sports Podcast Network: I think that's where Arteta is just trying to think smart here. But another thing that does concern me is contracts. What was discussed in both their contracts? Because, again, for Ethan, it was stressed heavily that he wanted more minutes.
Craig matthews : Yeah.
Global Sports Podcast Network: But again... How can you try and keep players happy but also manage minutes? It's not easy. But like you've said, we are in we were in so many competitions. You know, it's still early days in the Prem.
Global Sports Podcast Network: You know, we're still in the Carabao Cup at the minute.
Craig matthews : yeah
Global Sports Podcast Network: You know, we've got the FA Cup coming up. We've got Champions League games coming up. You know, well before you know it, we'll get to December now and we'll start having midweek games.
Craig matthews : It's true. I thought he would get minutes in that.
Global Sports Podcast Network: So...
Craig matthews : song and only like In the wintertime, he'd get lot of games. Two or three days, he'd get game off the game off the game.
Global Sports Podcast Network: Yeah.
Craig matthews : I thought he'd get enough minutes, but as I said to you before, a both of them have to be patient. I know Skelly wants to be in the World Cup squad and he needs to get more minutes for World Cup squad. I think Tuchel said on the day that he needs to get more minutes for the club side.
Global Sports Podcast Network: Of course.
Craig matthews : played more for England than for Arsenal this season.
Global Sports Podcast Network: And then he has for Arsenal, exactly.
Craig matthews : I thought every time plays for England, he plays well.
Global Sports Podcast Network: True.
Craig matthews : He has to kind of work that out. has to work that out for himself and think, you know what?
Global Sports Podcast Network: Yeah.
Craig matthews : Let me work hard in training. and Keep my head down. I'm proof to the manager I deserve to start. So, yeah.
Global Sports Podcast Network: We'll have to see. um Just quickly, actually, before we finish up, actually, and and speaking of, like, England international duty, Do you, with with way with the way things are going at Arsenal, do you see MLS going to the World Cup?
Craig matthews : Yes.
Global Sports Podcast Network: I know it's an only question to ask, but if, say for example, he gets played in cup competitions and makes the odd sub appearance from the bench, do you think that'll be enough to get him a spot on the World Cup?
Craig matthews : I,
Craig matthews : I feel this is the best option that left-back England got right now. i know they're thinking they could put a Jez Spence there as a cover left-back, but I prefer Jez Spence on the right-back option as a right-back.

Craig matthews : I think he's a decent player. a good backup for Rhys James.
Global Sports Podcast Network: ah i've always I've always kind of known Jed to play as a right-back.
Craig matthews : Yeah, I feel like he'd be a good replacement for like
Craig matthews : if Trent doesn't get picked or if um the other guy from Chelsea's game again, Reece James is injured, yeah, then you can have people there start off.
Global Sports Podcast Network: Rhys James.
Craig matthews : I like Gaye and the concert, I'd send them back, or maybe John Scully's my player there.
Global Sports Podcast Network: Konza. Them two, for me, hands down for me, them two just work. Them two work. And there's no argument behind it.
Craig matthews : I think Livermento or Lewis Hall, I'm not in this squad, Livermento's injured at the moment, so
Global Sports Podcast Network: He's injured at the minute.
Craig matthews : I thought that Lewis Skelly is the best option at left. but I think he has to go to the World Cup. I'll be very devastated if doesn't go. I think he has to go.
Global Sports Podcast Network: you know what? To be honest with you, we've got two more international breaks coming up. We've got the one that is two weeks or about week and a half, two weeks away or so.
Craig matthews : Yeah. Yeah.
Global Sports Podcast Network: And we've got the one that comes up in March.
Craig matthews : yeah
Global Sports Podcast Network: And I think it will be really interesting to see how that pans out for him from but ah from November through to March. If he can get the game time, you know, if he can get the odd couple appearances starting and also coming off off from the bench, especially with Livermanto injured, I don't see how you can't bring him to the World Cup.
Craig matthews : that. you know he he He's a young player. He's done well, had a great breakthrough season last night at Arsenal. Very unlucky not to win an award last week. he would have won an award. Or be at least nominated for when the best young player coming through because

Craig matthews : He had a great season last season, scored on his England debut, they didn't get that didn't get the credit. I think we were fair on him that he deserved to be nominated for ah the Young Club of the Year.
Global Sports Podcast Network: yeah definitely yeah yeah yeah nah
Craig matthews : and think the reason often some some people in the media was about getting on to him about the Harlem celebration as well, if you remember, when he scored against Man City, he got backlash from that.
Craig matthews : I don't think he deserved that, to honest with you, because he He was doing what Haaland did to us at Etihad when he threw the ball out Gabriel's head.
Global Sports Podcast Network: Gabriel and then you know he told Arteta stay humble got rude to Jesus and all of that yeah and you got yeah saying like who who are you absolutely yeah
Craig matthews : got really going to Skelly as well. Skelly is the next game. was in the next game.
Craig matthews : That's how it is sometimes, but then, you know, that's how it is. But I thought that Lewis Kelly definitely will go to the World Cup next year. Hopefully, can. I really think he deserves a go.

Craig matthews : um Definitely.
Global Sports Podcast Network: I'd like to see him at the World Cup. but and Look, you know, that left-back spot for England has been such a headache since Luke Shaw. And I don't see why why Miles doesn't get selected for for the World Cup, in my opinion.
Global Sports Podcast Network: If he can continue getting a couple games, you know, if he can continue to start a couple games here and there, make the odds up appearance, keep doing what he's doing.
Craig matthews : hmmm yes
