Global Sports Podcast Network: Hello everyone and welcome to the Daily arinal Arsenal podcast, where this is your one-stop shop as we bring you all the latest Arsenal news and views. Brought to you on the GSPN Podcast Network, I am your host Jamie Patterson and in this episode I am joined by the one and only Mr Encyclopedia himself, Craig Matthews. Craig, how you feeling? It's another day since the the North London derby.
Global Sports Podcast Network: We are now one day away from, well, depending on whenever whenever you listen to this, a day away, a couple hours away from a big, big game. are you feeling?
Craig matthews : I'm confident. Honestly, I'm very confident that we can get result against Bayern tomorrow. lie The form we've been showing this season, we're keeping a clean sheet where needs to be.
Global Sports Podcast Network: Hmm.
Craig matthews : We've done so well the Champions League. think we only conceded. Have we conceded any goals in the Champions League this season?
Global Sports Podcast Network: Uh, no, no, no, double check that, double check that.
Craig matthews : I don't think we conceded any goals Champions League this season. Well, let me pop let me double check there because I don't think can see only goal from Champions League this
Global Sports Podcast Network: I don't think we have. I'm pretty sure we haven't. I'd be shocked if we have, but I don't think we have.
Craig matthews : season.
Global Sports Podcast Network: But while Craig looks that up, in the meantime, you can imagine in this episode, we will be discussing and looking ahead to our Champions League game as we take on the German champions by Munich at the Emirates Stadium.
Craig matthews : Champions League.
Global Sports Podcast Network: Now, as always, guys, if you want to get involved with any of the topics discussed in the show, please do get involved through our social media, which can be found in the show notes in the description.
Global Sports Podcast Network: Craig, have you got an answer?
Craig matthews : but haven't considered the gold champions league we've got the same amount of gold differences by me and 11 11 12 points so there's only 14 in the championship but 12 points arsenal arsenal by munich inter milan newcastle got 12 points in the championship this season so newcastle plays four games lost one 12 points arsenal played
Global Sports Podcast Network: Wow. Wow.
Global Sports Podcast Network: Yep. wow
Craig matthews : Arsenal played four games, zero zero defeat, zero draws, 11 goal difference, 12 points. Bayern have played the same amount of games, four four games, four wins, 11 goal difference and 12 points.
Craig matthews : And Inter Milan have got four wins, zero draws, zero losses, 10 goal difference and 12 points. So, yeah.
Global Sports Podcast Network: Wow. Really all to play for. And currently as it stands, we are recording on a Tuesday night and we've just been watching the champions. We've just currently half time in the current games. ah Both of us have been watching Newcastle against Marseille. Goodness me, what a frustrating half of football to watch. Entertaining, but very frustrating.
Global Sports Podcast Network: Goodness me. Anthony Gordon, how could you not take your chance? Me and Craig were saying off air, even we could have scored that.
Craig matthews : Simple chart. Them type of goals score in training or even in 5-a-side or 11-a-side where the goal is empty, roll it in the back of the net.
Global Sports Podcast Network: Yeah.
Craig matthews : Just take your time stroking the back of the net. I don't know if you lost ice out of the ball or what. But I think he's a very frustrating player to watch.
Global Sports Podcast Network: Yeah, you've said that. You wouldn't have him Arsenal, would you?
Craig matthews : Huh?
Global Sports Podcast Network: wouldn't have him at Arsenal, would you?
Craig matthews : Huh? I imagine we had in the past that just frustrated me so no.
Global Sports Podcast Network: Oh, dear me. But as we as we now look ahead to to this game, how are you feeling?
Craig matthews : Maybe after...
Global Sports Podcast Network: I mean, you kind of mentioned it before. You say you're very confident. You feel, you know, you're very, you are sounding very confident going into into this game. But, you know, as you've mentioned there, yeah actually, yeah, just in general, how are you feeling ahead of this game?
Craig matthews : Hmm.
Global Sports Podcast Network: Because you are, you you've kind of really touched on it in terms of confidence. Where where' do you think it could be won for Arsenal?
Global Sports Podcast Network: Yeah, so you reckon that the defence, yeah, I could see that as well. You know, you you look at ah over the weekend, do you go for the same back four?
Global Sports Podcast Network: Do you change it up a little bit? Maybe do you tweak it just a wee bit? It's not going to be easy, is it
Craig matthews : I personally think that I think we should um
Craig matthews : Keep the same back four from the weekend but make one change.
Global Sports Podcast Network: Ooh, who's the one change you'd make?
Craig matthews : Put Lewis Skelly in. Lewis Skelly for Califori.
Global Sports Podcast Network: Okay.
Craig matthews : I think Lewis...
Global Sports Podcast Network: yeah
Craig matthews : I think... I think... I've tested the season in the Champions League. It's been given Lewis Skelly more minutes the Champions League than in the Premier League. So... And I feel like it does well in the Champions League as well, Lewis Skelly.
Global Sports Podcast Network: Yeah.
Craig matthews : So... I would give him a game. I think the reason why I'll do that is because I feel he can handle Elyse better than Califori can handle Elyse.
Global Sports Podcast Network: Yeah. Yeah.
Craig matthews : that's what That's what I feel.
Global Sports Podcast Network: That's, do you know what?
Craig matthews : Well, I might be...
Global Sports Podcast Network: i can I can agree with you on that. And I think also in the Champions League, I feel like with Calafiore, he's great. Like, let's not take nothing away. Great player.
Global Sports Podcast Network: But feel with Myles Lewis-Skelly, he gets given so much more freedom to really go at players.
Craig matthews : Yeah.
Global Sports Podcast Network: You know, a bit like how Eze was over the weekend where he was having freedom. i could see that with I can see that with
Craig matthews : a
Global Sports Podcast Network: in Champions League.
Craig matthews : yeah
Global Sports Podcast Network: You know, we saw it in the last match day against Atleti and it really it paid off. It really paid off. And i think I think, you know how you've got like a cup goalkeeper.
Craig matthews : yeah
Global Sports Podcast Network: I think we we have that so-called like cup left back where we have to play Myles Lewis-Gelly. You know, i think it also shows that if we can give them a bit more chances and a bit more opportunities to go and do well out there, I think it would really go a long way.
Craig matthews : yeah
Global Sports Podcast Network: for him and and his confidence. And, you know, if he could play well, do you maybe think he could get, he could maybe knock on the door for a for a starting spot? Or do you reckon Calafiore's solidified that?
Craig matthews : No, because players can lose form. Injuries, loss of form, rotation.
Global Sports Podcast Network: Yeah.
Craig matthews : so think Arteta needs to play it very smart as well because I know a lot of injured players will come back from injury soon as well. So, going to have a headache. As he said yesterday, he'll have a headache of picking the team.
Global Sports Podcast Network: Yeah.
Craig matthews : So, lot of are going to be unhappy, not playing, not want to play. And I think for Lewis Skelly, I want him to go to the World Cup in the summer. I think he deserves to go to the World Cup. And I don't want him to miss out because he's not playing enough football for Arsenal because that could destroy his confidence as well.
Global Sports Podcast Network: a
Craig matthews : So, I'm hoping he gets the more momentum to see now at the end of the season. And if he can show his form, they did against Let's go for the set-up for Martinelli's goal. more disabled.
Global Sports Podcast Network: Yeah. I mean, do you know what? Again, i you know what? you You read my mind because I was going to say the exact same. i I'd love to see Myles Lewis Scully go to the World Cup. But at the same time, as I've mentioned before in a previous pod, I wouldn't be surprised.
Global Sports Podcast Network: I think I'd be more surprised if he was selected. i don't think I'd be as surprised if he wasn't selected for the World Cup.
Craig matthews : and I understand. He hasn't been playing a lot and other players have been playing in form like Lee Corrides playing well.
Global Sports Podcast Network: Yeah.
Craig matthews : Levin Mentos back at Newcastle played the other day. You've got Lewis Hall can play left back as well.
Global Sports Podcast Network: He's currently playing now tonight as well.
Craig matthews : And you've Lewis Hall as well as a left back as well.
Global Sports Podcast Network: Yeah.
Craig matthews : So, there's loads of options that can take his play. So, if I'm Lewis Skeddy, I'm going to have to work extra so hard in training to prove to the manager. Every time he gets minutes on the pitch, you've got to something extraordinary to keep in place in the team.
Craig matthews : And you have to do that from now on.
Global Sports Podcast Network: Yeah, absolutely. Craig, there's something I really need to bring up to you. And it's something you mentioned in probably one of the pre in previous match day.
Global Sports Podcast Network: And it's about a certain, certain right back. It's about our right back. Because if you can cast your mind back, what did you say in the last right back?
Craig matthews : I said, i remember saying, well, I said, Ian and Timber doesn't fit, doesn't fit no right wing and ratling in the world football.
Global Sports Podcast Network: Word for word, what did you say?
Craig matthews : He can handle any tricky player. And I stand by that. He did it, he's done it so many games a season. And I feel that I still stick to that quote. I feel that he is one of the, rat when it comes to 1v1s, and even, there's podcast we can get to listen to.
Global Sports Podcast Network: Yeah.
Craig matthews : Andy Feynmore did a podcast with Eze the other day. It's online. ill so ah If I can find it, I'll send it you.
Global Sports Podcast Network: Yeah, yeah.
Craig matthews : He asked Eze, who was the most player that surprised you at Arsenal? And guess what he said? Just guess.
Global Sports Podcast Network: At Arsenal.
Craig matthews : what Who's one of the players that impressed you the most at Arsenal? Guess who he said?
Global Sports Podcast Network: I'm impressed the most at Arsenal. Arsenal.
Craig matthews : Let's guess.
Global Sports Podcast Network: I bet it's something really... It's like... It's something that would really shock me. I'm going Winger, yeah?
Craig matthews : No, Defender.
Global Sports Podcast Network: Current defender.
Craig matthews : Yeah.
Global Sports Podcast Network: Timber.
Craig matthews : Yeah.
Global Sports Podcast Network: No way. Wow. Wow.
Craig matthews : I just sent in the link of that interview, that podcast.
Global Sports Podcast Network: You do.
Craig matthews : I'll send it to you on the break anyway.
Global Sports Podcast Network: Yeah, yeah, absolutely.
Craig matthews : He said that he you he he he he really impressed...
Global Sports Podcast Network: oh my gosh. That is...
Craig matthews : He's really impressed by way Timber plays and the way how he's surprised, are he playing the levels and everything.
Global Sports Podcast Network: Yeah.
Craig matthews : Timber's a very good player. When you come from the famous Ajax academy, you have something about you. There's something about you as a player when you come from that famous academy. day The way they play football, the Dutch, they're this special type of players.
Craig matthews : Over the years and decades, the way they play football. and I think he's a top, top defender, getting better every week. And not a lot of player teams have played have gotten better of him this season.
Craig matthews : Even last season. Hmm.
Global Sports Podcast Network: Yeah, absolutely. I mean, going back to what you were saying about about Timber, for me, I never forget watching... i remember forget his I remember watching his very first game in the Community Shield against City.
Craig matthews : Hmm.
Global Sports Podcast Network: One thing I, the one thing that caught my eye about Timber was how relaxed and how much flair he had on the ball. This guy was taking on city defenders, like city attackers, like they were nothing, you know?
Global Sports Podcast Network: and then unfortunately he was injured and I was really gutted because everyone knew how good a player we had in him. But when you go out to an ACL injury, you know that,
Global Sports Podcast Network: probably seven times out of 10, player comes back from ACL and they're not the player they once were.
Craig matthews : Never the same again.
Global Sports Podcast Network: But goodness me, since Timber's been back from injury, he has just gone from strength to strength to strength, hasn't he?
Craig matthews : 100%.
Global Sports Podcast Network: And I've just seen that from being rejected at 17 to Arsenal.
Craig matthews : I'll just send you the link now for the interview. Yeah.
Global Sports Podcast Network: Yeah, I'm going to watch that. But for me, Timber's just, what a player. And it's, and again, like you said there about the Ajax Academy,
Craig matthews : Hmm.
Global Sports Podcast Network: Very underrated. You know, a lot of people might look at you know, the Barcelona Academy. Some people might even look at the Arsenal Academy. You know, some people will look at Premier League academies, but no one looks at the Eurodivisie.
Craig matthews : Hmm.
Global Sports Podcast Network: No one looks at Ajax and the products and the talents they bring up. You know, we talk about Jurian Timba, but I could also go on to talk about his brother, Quinton Timba.
Craig matthews : and
Global Sports Podcast Network: You know, another good tro another good player.
Craig matthews : oh
Global Sports Podcast Network: And, you know, one day i would love to see Arsenal sign him as well. Could you imagine the Timber Brothers at Arsenal?
Craig matthews : Yeah, definitely. of your ma That would be amazing. That Neville brought back in the day, Gary and Phil.
Global Sports Podcast Network: Yeah.
Craig matthews : A good connection. but But the thing is as well, the thing is that the Dutch football doesn't get a lot rating because they think it's a second-rate league.
Global Sports Podcast Network: Exactly that.
Craig matthews : Well, I'm telling you that Arsenal and Henderson, for league when he played for them.
Global Sports Podcast Network: Yeah.
Craig matthews : He did well for them out there. It's a good league to play in. Ack is supposed to play for Arsenal as well. So, you have to be a very good player play for Ack.
Global Sports Podcast Network: Yep.
Craig matthews : They don't sign no, like, not quite it good players. They always get the top of the top players on the academy. I can name a few players play for Ack and done well. Luke de Jong that's playing for... um
Global Sports Podcast Network: Yep.
Craig matthews : Frankie Dion was playing for Barcelona I was at Ajax.
Global Sports Podcast Network: Delict.
Craig matthews : You got Timba, Deleuze, Hato, Onana played for Ajax as well, came through there.
Global Sports Podcast Network: Yep.
Global Sports Podcast Network: ZH.
Craig matthews : Diech, who was Huntelaar, who was Neres, David Neres, Anthony, he played well for them.
Global Sports Podcast Network: Huntelaar, yep.
Global Sports Podcast Network: Neres, yep.
Global Sports Podcast Network: Anthony, of course, yeah.
Craig matthews : Before went to United, he was good for them. um There's so many good players that play for Ajax over the years. you' got Dennis Bergkamp was in the academy, Johan Cruyff.
Global Sports Podcast Network: Yeah.
Craig matthews : You've got on and on and on. you've got Frank De Boer, Ronald De Boer, Van de Vaart.
Global Sports Podcast Network: Wasn't Koeman part, wasn't Ronald Koeman part of, part of their development or not?
Craig matthews : I think he was part of the their manager. was their manager many years ago.
Global Sports Podcast Network: Yeah.
Global Sports Podcast Network: Sorry, sorry, I've just had to cut you off there because currently as it stands, at half-time, Leverkusen are 1-0 up.
Craig matthews : Man
Craig matthews : City are losing.
Global Sports Podcast Network: Wow.
Craig matthews : Wow.
Global Sports Podcast Network: Wow.
Craig matthews : Wow.
Global Sports Podcast Network: I mean, this is why we love the Champions League. what What a competition.
Craig matthews : Definitely.
Global Sports Podcast Network: And teams are getting ready for the second half.
Craig matthews : Yeah. Yeah.
Global Sports Podcast Network: But Craig... Let's look at the Arsenal side. where where do you see us you know where Where do you see us really trying to get the goals from? Because when you look at Bayern Munich, and you know they're not German champions for no reason, but how are we goingnna try and break it how do you see Arsenal breaking down Bayern's defence?
Craig matthews : yeah
Craig matthews : They'll be out wide. Saka and and and Nika Marino. I think some people have gone up front. They've been very useful for it. I think what Nika Marino did of the other day was he dropped deep and let players run in front of him.
Global Sports Podcast Network: Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.
Global Sports Podcast Network: yeah
Craig matthews : So Eze had the freedom against Southpaw where Eze scored with Hapford because he's running as a number nine from deep. Running from a number 10 to a number nine.
Global Sports Podcast Network: yeah
Craig matthews : Then then Marino dropped from a number nine to a number 10. and that's why we're getting all the goals. So when Eze was attacking, Marino was defending Eze's place to stop any counter-impact whatever, and Eze had the freedom on the pitch to do what he did to do. So i would say Saka, Eze, Trossard and whoever comes on the sub will be the impact players.
Craig matthews : If it's a tight game and needs a goal, you could score a set-piece. Could be another set-piece again.
Global Sports Podcast Network: Yeah, I mean, we haven't scored. We haven't scored a set piece, actually, in a little while now, haven't we?
Craig matthews : The last two games played, some them no set pieces, Tottenham no set pieces. So, all the critics are saying Arsenal only score set pieces.
Global Sports Podcast Network: no set pieces.
Craig matthews : Don't know, we've got different dimensions to our game we can score all types of goals. Pretty goals, ugly goals, any type of goals can score now. So, it's good that we can mix it up a bit when we need to. Depends on the team and opposition we play.
Craig matthews : So, yeah.
Global Sports Podcast Network: Yeah. No, absolutely. i think I definitely agree with you in the sense of I think it will really cut. I think it will be a battle of the wings for both teams, I think.
Craig matthews : and Yeah, definitely.
Global Sports Podcast Network: You know, when you look at Bayern, we'll talk about Bayern a little bit after the break. But when you look at Arsenal's wings, you know, again, Trossard. I never thought I'd be speaking about Trossard starting a game because he's been, you know, we talk about him.
Global Sports Podcast Network: being that clutch player from the bench. But reese in recent games, he's really starting to shine and show his worth a bit more now. You know, we've got Saka on the right, who is just quality.
Craig matthews : Yeah.
Global Sports Podcast Network: Then up top, Mikel Moreno.
Craig matthews : Hmm.
Global Sports Podcast Network: But again, if Arteta can implement, you know, what Moreno done against Tottenham and let Eze have a bit more free roam, I can see Eze doing really well.
Craig matthews : ay
Global Sports Podcast Network: Sorry.
Craig matthews : Definitely.
Global Sports Podcast Network: Oh, hold on a minute.
Craig matthews : 100%. Goal. Goal. go
Global Sports Podcast Network: No way! Oh, it's 1-1! It's 1-1! Sorry, I had to stop you there. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. 20 seconds into the first half.
Global Sports Podcast Network: Marseille have just equalised.
Craig matthews : Jamie, what I say to at half-time? Did I say to you before?
Global Sports Podcast Network: We said... You did say this.
Craig matthews : I said to you that basically Newcastle are going to get punished for missing their chances. I thought this is early going to rock them up at half-time. That's what he's done. Look. Fire them up.
Global Sports Podcast Network: Wow.
Craig matthews : But Manor's got a good record against Newcastle anyway in the Premier League day.
Global Sports Podcast Network: um was just thinking that actually I was just thinking that, thinking that.
Craig matthews : His first ball
Global Sports Podcast Network: But wow, what a reaction. I'm sorry, but what was Nick Pope doing? What was Nick Pope doing?
Craig matthews : That's what Gordon should have done at half-time, for half-time, score that type of goal.
Global Sports Podcast Network: yeah
Craig matthews : Where's the puck going?
Global Sports Podcast Network: What was Nick Pope thinking, though?
Craig matthews : And he's screaming at Abame as well.
Global Sports Podcast Network: Defender was running... The defender was pretty much... I mean, look, he could have at least re like trusted in his defence, but wow.
Craig matthews : don't
Craig matthews : think...
Global Sports Podcast Network: Wow, what a game on our hands here.
Craig matthews : and other other
Global Sports Podcast Network: Goodness me. Yeah.
Craig matthews : ah but i don't think i don't feel calm I don't think Nick Pover is the top quarterly keeper for Newcastle to be honest with you. He's a good shot to pop on what when it comes to his feet.
Global Sports Podcast Network: Yeah.
Craig matthews : is very I don't know if Ramsville should minutes now. think it's about time Ramsville gets for minutes for Newcastle.
Global Sports Podcast Network: we've seen we've We've seen what Ramsdale's worth at Arsenal.
Craig matthews : I'm not the manager.
Global Sports Podcast Network: We've seen what Ramsdale's worth at Arsenal.
Craig matthews : don't know why...
Global Sports Podcast Network: I mean, I don't see why it can't work in a Newcastle team. He's got Champions League experience as well. Ooh,
Craig matthews : but then know why
Global Sports Podcast Network: unlucky.
Craig matthews : I don't know why it doesn't start him because...
Global Sports Podcast Network: Yeah.
Craig matthews : If Newcastle want to win big trophies in the future, Nick Pope can't be their number one. They have to agree with Nick Pope.
Global Sports Podcast Network: Oh, hold on a minute. Oh!
Global Sports Podcast Network: Willock!
Craig matthews : Oh, 2-1. Offside.
Global Sports Podcast Network: Oh, it's
Craig matthews : Offside, offside.
Global Sports Podcast Network: Offside.
Craig matthews : Offside.
Global Sports Podcast Network: Offside Harvey Barnes. Goodness me. This game has been really end-to-end. Oh my goodness me. But, yeah, going but going back to what we were... Before we were into...
Global Sports Podcast Network: into
Craig matthews : yeah
Global Sports Podcast Network: Yeah, he's offside. He's offside. i had to stop for minute.
Craig matthews : Yeah.
Global Sports Podcast Network: Yeah, he's offside. Before we were interrupted, going back to what we were talking about, um it will be a battle of the wings.
Craig matthews : Shout to your tune a lot.
Global Sports Podcast Network: I can see this game being a battle of the wings because it's one of them.
Craig matthews : You said
Global Sports Podcast Network: It'll be one of them where, again, wellll we'll talk a bit more after the break about Bayern's attack, but, you know, with the likes of Elyse saying, obviously, Kane and so on. But...
Craig matthews : and it. Do you want?
Global Sports Podcast Network: You know, you look at Arsenal when it comes to, you know, you look at Arsenal when it comes to Trossard and it comes to Saka on the right. You know, if Arteta can implement what I was saying earlier on, if Arteta can play the same style he played against Tottenham, where he can allow Eze to be a bit more free roam, that could be another way to unlock the Bayern defence.
Craig matthews : and
Craig matthews : Unforced.
Global Sports Podcast Network: But in the meantime, we are going to take a quick break. Join us after the break as we talk a bit more about Bayern and their players. Because, of course, they've got some good quality players that Arsenal do need to be aware of. So join us after this quick break.
Global Sports Podcast Network: And welcome back to this. Oh my goodness. Sorry. It's two one Craig, what were you saying? Sorry?
Craig matthews : I said to if you, if Newcastle don't take their chances, Marte will punish them. And who punished them? Man like a Bambi,
Global Sports Podcast Network: And it's only been three.
Craig matthews : but hu
Global Sports Podcast Network: It's probably been about four five minutes that Newcastle have just... Oh my goodness me.
Craig matthews : guys. Capitulated. They're capitulated. Yep.
Global Sports Podcast Network: Wow.
Craig matthews : I hope we don't get Marte in the knockout round the Champions League, you know, because they're
Global Sports Podcast Network: heavens, oh goodness me, that will be, that'll be very dangerous.
Craig matthews : That be a dangerous team man to play against.
Global Sports Podcast Network: Do you know what? I looked up, I just only looked up after the ad and thought, oh my goodness, what has just happened? Oh, what a reaction.
Craig matthews : Ooh, what a finish. is What a finish.
Global Sports Podcast Network: Dangerous ball to get in front.
Craig matthews : oof
Global Sports Podcast Network: Who's he got in front of? That's Timothy Weir, isn't it?
Craig matthews : Timothy Weiss is a good player man.
Global Sports Podcast Network: What a player. And, oh, to get in front of Cher like that.
Craig matthews : Who's that defender?
Global Sports Podcast Network: Goodness me.
Craig matthews : at the Serbi. The Serbi's running on the tunnel. on, the Serbi. Go on.
Global Sports Podcast Network: he He's got the Champions League ball. He got the Champions League ball, kissed it ran back to his coaching staff.
Global Sports Podcast Network: Oh my goodness.
Craig matthews : bet a bummer gets a hat trick in this game.
Global Sports Podcast Network: You've called it and it's probably going happen now.
Craig matthews : Yep.
Global Sports Podcast Network: Oh, hello.
Craig matthews : 3-1. 3-1.
Global Sports Podcast Network: Hello.
Craig matthews : free one free one
Global Sports Podcast Network: three bud Oh, maybe not.
Craig matthews : No, too greedy, too greedy.
Global Sports Podcast Network: Yeah, for real. Timothy Weir though. Oh, save.
Craig matthews : o
Global Sports Podcast Network: Save from Nick Pope, though. oh And a for oh former Tottenham man, Hoiberg.
Craig matthews : This game.
Craig matthews : Yeah, Hoek, Poyberg, yeah.
Global Sports Podcast Network: for
Craig matthews : Scored a own goal against in the game.
Global Sports Podcast Network: He did.
Craig matthews : Man, he seems to go at Spurs' ground.
Global Sports Podcast Network: He did. But, yeah, but let's have ah let's have a discussion about Bayern Munich, because speaking of former Tottenham,
Craig matthews : That 3-2 win, yeah.
Global Sports Podcast Network: Tottenham players. Oh, goodness me. We talk about, you know, we talk about Aubameyang loving a goal against Newcastle. But there's one man that does love a goal against Arsenal.
Global Sports Podcast Network: And it is, of course, that man, Harry Kane. Craig, let's say for tomorrow's game, it's Hincapier and Gabriel, sorry, Hincapier and William Saliba at the back.
Global Sports Podcast Network: How are they going to try and stop Harry Kane?
Craig matthews : yeah
Craig matthews : Don't give him no space in the box, don't mark him too tight because you're marking too tight he'll go down for a penalty. Just do the diligence of him, he's very intelligent against him.
Global Sports Podcast Network: Yeah.
Craig matthews : um he likes to drop into pockets of space in it he doesn't like spin it's not a number nine that stays in up front like ah he he'll drop deep and then make other players running in ah ahead of him abel what michael runadan but pi lack of playmaker i like see the golden sport for england like always hint to this be it be at the right place at the right time type of strike um
Global Sports Podcast Network: No.
Global Sports Podcast Network: Yeah, that's it.
Global Sports Podcast Network: Yeah, absolutely. Absolutely. I mean, the way I see it, also another another thing I'll ask, because I want to talk about Elyse, because again, you know, there's going to be a reunion of Elyse and Eze.
Global Sports Podcast Network: Pretty sure Eze will start for Arsenal after his recent performances.
Craig matthews : e yeah and
Global Sports Podcast Network: But Who do you see having the better game out of the two? Out Elisa and Eze, who do you see having the better game? Because when when we used to watch them play for Palace, they were dynamite.
Global Sports Podcast Network: um And I mean, it was difficult when one of them got injured. The other would always do well. But they had such a special chemistry together, didn't they?
Craig matthews : yeah definitely 100% they complemented the topic very well
Global Sports Podcast Network: Yeah.
Craig matthews : It was a shame that I know they won the FA Cup. I know Palace won the FA Cup last season.
Global Sports Podcast Network: Yeah.
Craig matthews : It was Esri Mateto and Sada won the FA Cup with that team.
Global Sports Podcast Network: Saw.
Craig matthews : But it was a shame that they didn't win the team. They've all played Zaha, Elise and Esri in that same team because those days when Palace were going through the dark days and was hard for them, struggling.
Craig matthews : Those guys were balling out for them every week. i remember when Sahar was balling out for Crystal Palace, kept them in the Premier League every season.
Global Sports Podcast Network: Yeah.
Global Sports Podcast Network: Yeah.
Craig matthews : And a lot of people would say that Eze is a Palace legend for what he did last season in the FA Cup and in the Community Shield. But you've got to credit to Eze. thought Eze balling out for Palace as well.
Craig matthews : got a massive milk for Bayern. He does well at Bayern. Sometimes I scratch head and wonder why didn't he go for Eze or Eze when it was available. why did he make him go to the band and go for him?
Global Sports Podcast Network: Yeah. Yeah.
Craig matthews : That would have been a good backup signing to Saka. um But I feel Timbal lock up. Timbal, whoever's playing left ball right back, will lock up Elise.
Craig matthews : And I feel Eze is in the form of his life right now. I think Eze is going to be the guy that's going to do the thing tomorrow. So I think Eze is going to do it, Tink.
Global Sports Podcast Network: yeah i mean It is going to be some game. It really is going to be some game at the Emirates. The only thing I really ask is any Arsenal fans that are going to be at the game tomorrow night.
Global Sports Podcast Network: The same passion that you brought to the Emirates needs to be brought to the Emirates again for Bayern Munich. We can't just have an atmospheric stadium, you know, go all out on the TIFO.
Global Sports Podcast Network: We've got to be we've we got to keep that momentum going, surely. We have to keep the momentum going.
Craig matthews : Definitely.
Global Sports Podcast Network: So anyone going to that game tomorrow night, enjoy the game, but go and really give it everything. Get behind the team because if we were behind the team against Spurs and we can create an atmosphere like we did at the Emirates, the same can be said.
Global Sports Podcast Network: The set the exact same can be said for... Ooh, saved. Sorry, Nick Pope's just come out with ah with a good save there. um
Craig matthews : It's
Global Sports Podcast Network: But yeah, the same can be said for Bayern Munich. But what a game it is going to be. What a game it is going to be. Right, we're going to take another quick break in the meantime.
Global Sports Podcast Network: When we come back, I'm going get Craig's score predictions. And again, going to just discuss a little more about the game. So join us after this quick break.
Craig matthews : too possible.
Global Sports Podcast Network: And welcome back to this third and final part of the Bayern preview. Now, Craig, I mean, this is going to be a very, very interesting game, isn't it?
Global Sports Podcast Network: Tomorrow night at the Emirates. The question is, where do you see it being won and lost for both teams, actually? where where do you Where could you potentially see it being won for Arsenal?
Global Sports Podcast Network: Where do you think you could see it maybe being lost for Bayern? Yeah.
Craig matthews : Arsenal will be attacking on the wins.
Global Sports Podcast Network: Yeah. Yeah.
Craig matthews : Bayern will be their defence. I think Bayern score a lot of goals, but they can't defend very well. You could see that the other day, I think they were losing two, the school conceded two goals over the weekend. I know they won the game, but if Arsenal are watching that game the other day, they can exploit their defenders. I think they can see a couple goals in set-piste as well. So, it comes down to us having a set-piste against them, I find Chelsea score set-piste goal against them as well, if need be.
Craig matthews : But Neuer is a very top, top goalkeeper, but there are are mistakes in them as well.
Global Sports Podcast Network: yeah
Craig matthews : as get on with Aves now, so, yeah.
Global Sports Podcast Network: Yeah, I mean, i look at this Arsenal team and I think it is so boosted that we're at the Emirates. You know, if we were going away to to the Allianz, it would be, you know, it's going to be...
Craig matthews : Hmm.
Global Sports Podcast Network: its Look, tomorrow's a huge game regardless, but I think having the home crowd...
Craig matthews : e
Global Sports Podcast Network: behind us in this game will be such a vital part to us hopefully going to winning this game or potentially even taking a point out of Bayern.
Global Sports Podcast Network: Now, my my thought process is with Arsenal, we we need to try and we we can break down this Bayern team. As you've said, Craig,
Global Sports Podcast Network: It is it's we've shown it, you know, we have we have, you know, it's it is seen that this Bayern team defensively have not been strong, especially defensively.
Craig matthews : Definitely.
Global Sports Podcast Network: And I think that's where I, you know what, I think this could have been a Victor Jokeres kind of game. I think this could have been a game where Jokeres could have really been influential. He was really ah he was influential in the la previous match day.
Global Sports Podcast Network: And I think we could have really done with him in tomorrow's game. But I still think, going back to what we said earlier on, with, you know, Mourinho drops back a bit into that midfield role and gives Eze the free roam, I honestly can't see how we can't potentially go and win this game, if anything.
Global Sports Podcast Network: Question is, Craig, what is your score prediction for the game?
Global Sports Podcast Network: Hoy. 2-1 Arsenal. Do you want hedge your bets on goal scorers as well while you're at it?
Craig matthews : Kane will score. He always does.
Global Sports Podcast Network: Ooh, okay.
Craig matthews : He always does. um
Craig matthews : I think Eze will get a goal. And I think Saka will get a goal.
Global Sports Podcast Network: Yeah.
Craig matthews : Yeah.
Global Sports Podcast Network: Okay. That's a good prediction. Do you know what? I'm also going... I'm i'm going 2-1 Arsenal as well, actually. i think, again, I see it as a scoring.
Global Sports Podcast Network: I can see as a scoring at the Emirates. I think the confidence is coursing through his veins after the North London derby.
Craig matthews : and yeah
Global Sports Podcast Network: And I think if he could get a goal in the Champions League, will really do do himself the world of confidence. He will do his confidence such a good boost.
Craig matthews : Yeah. You
Global Sports Podcast Network: For me... I'm, yeah, I'm going 2-1 Arsenal. I'm going to go Eze to score. Bayern, I'm going to go... I'm actually going to go Elyse.
Craig matthews : can at least have a score.
Global Sports Podcast Network: I think, yeah, I think Elyse's...
Craig matthews : OK. yeah
Global Sports Podcast Network: Oh, goodness me, Marseille with another shot. and Greenwood this time. But I'm going to go for... Yeah, I'm going to go Elyse to score. And to get the second goal, I'm going Trossard.
Craig matthews : Yeah, he's in good form as well.
Global Sports Podcast Network: Trossard's been someone who's been in a rich vein of form.
Craig matthews : I was thinking about him as well, but I think a dual goal now.
Global Sports Podcast Network: why for that, I'm going Trossard.
Craig matthews : That's what thought Saka is dual goal now.
Global Sports Podcast Network: Yeah, that's another good shout as well. I'd be very... Yeah, I think Saka... If Saka could score... Because I actually thought maybe Saka could try get on the score sheet. Maybe, you know, I thought Saka would have maybe got on the score sheet this weekend. Yeah.
Global Sports Podcast Network: He likes a goal against Tottenham.
Craig matthews : Yeah.
Global Sports Podcast Network: But also, especially coming back from the international break, he he had a good international break.
Craig matthews : Hmm.
Craig matthews : They got kind of cold, kind of assist.
Global Sports Podcast Network: Yeah, so I thought he'd be ready to go and the rest would be history.
Craig matthews : Not too bad.
Global Sports Podcast Network: But, you know, there's still there's still quite a good few amount of games to go Let's hope, fingers crossed, if he can score tomorrow night, it'd be brilliant. if If he scores over the weekend, even brilliant as well. So...
Craig matthews : Hmm.
