Introduction and Liverpool's Recent Performance

00:00:47
Global Sports Podcast Network
Hello and welcome to today's episode of the Daily Liverpool Podcast. I'm joined by Louis Easton. Louis, how's it going?
00:00:54
Louie Easton
All good, mate. Thank you very much for asking. How have you been it's been? It's been a while since we've done one together.
00:00:59
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, it's been a while. I've i've been good. Liverpool have been, ah you know, ticking along.

Can Liverpool Become Premier League Champions?

00:01:03
Global Sports Podcast Network
I feel like we're just so close and I just feel like, yeah, it's goingnna it's going to happen this weekend and, oh, maybe tomorrow, but I think most likely this weekend.
00:01:04
Louie Easton
Yeah.
00:01:11
Global Sports Podcast Network
So I'm just like gearing myself up, really. I'm super excited.
00:01:14
Louie Easton
Yeah. Yeah, so I think we all are.
00:01:15
Global Sports Podcast Network
um Yeah, and it's going to be incredible. I feel like most Liverpool fans will admit it's ours now. um But on today's episode, we're going to talk about Arsenal versus Crystal Palace because if Palace do win against Arsenal, obviously that means Liverpool are confirmed to Premier League champions and means Tottenham give us a guard on a god of honour, but it means there's less pressure on the game on Sunday.
00:01:38
Global Sports Podcast Network
um So going into that game, I mean, first of all, Louis, are you going watching? um Probably I will be watching.
00:01:43
Louie Easton
course, of course.
00:01:44
Global Sports Podcast Network
Um,
00:01:44
Louie Easton
I mean, this is one that I think if you are a Liverpool fan or just a fan of the Premier League, you'll want to watch it because, um i mean, this is happening because Crystal Palace are playing on the weekend in the f FA Cup.
00:01:45
Global Sports Podcast Network
and
00:01:58
Louie Easton
ah Palace have been very out of form, so it's very unlikely that they'll get anything out of Arsenal considering the form that they're in at the moment. But um it's the Premier League. It's football. Anything can happen.
00:02:11
Louie Easton
And the standard of the Premier League is higher than it has ever been before. So, um it's... ah Arsenal could be caught by surprise. We'll see.

Scenarios for Championship Celebration at Anfield

00:02:22
Global Sports Podcast Network
And I feel like if it is going to be a team to win Liverpool, the Premier League, ah feel like Crystal Palace have always scuppered us on title runs. I mean, 2013-14, the free free um Even last season when Eze scored and we lost 1-0, that was kind of like the start of the end of our title reign, title running.
00:02:32
Louie Easton
Oh, God.
00:02:36
Louie Easton
Yeah. Yeah.
00:02:39
Global Sports Podcast Network
um But yeah, it would just be amazing if Palace could do us a favour.
00:02:41
Louie Easton
Yeah. of obviously Obviously, there was that one that they got against Man City a couple of years ago when Andros Townsend scored that 30-yard volley. um And also, Steven Gerrard's last game at Anfield, Crystal Palace beat us then. So they've always been a sort of giant killer catch-a-team-by-surprise team. by surprise team um And, I mean, it's my local team, so obviously I grew up with a lot of Crystal Palace fans who gave me a lot of stick over that Gerrard one. But...
00:03:07
Louie Easton
um Yeah, we will be Crystal Palace fans on Wednesday night, that's for sure.
00:03:12
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, and I mean, even if Arsenal do get the job done, which we probably are anticipating that they will win, it means that we've got a job to do on Sunday. So, I mean, don't think Liverpool fans, and I know Liverpool team are actually going watching the game from what I've heard from reports because of kind of what happened in 2020.
00:03:28
Louie Easton
Hmm.
00:03:29
Global Sports Podcast Network
We watched the City-Chelsea game and Chelsea won, done us a favour, and great celebrations then.
00:03:33
Louie Easton
Yeah.
00:03:35
Global Sports Podcast Network
So, yeah, we never know what's going happen on Wednesday. feel like we're preparing ourselves for two parties, either on Wednesday or on Sunday. um But looking at Arsenal Palace.
00:03:42
Louie Easton
Yeah.
00:03:44
Global Sports Podcast Network
Sorry, go on.
00:03:46
Louie Easton
and I was just going to say I kind of want us to win it ourselves on Sunday because that means that we've won the Premier League at Anfield and you can just imagine just how insane the celebrations will be around Anfield Road and around Merseyside.
00:03:50
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.

Tottenham's Struggles and Impact on Liverpool

00:04:02
Louie Easton
It'll be beautiful. It'll be absolutely beautiful.
00:04:05
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, I'm i'm um with you. I want us to win it on Sunday. like I actually don't mind if Arsenal win against Palace because I think it'll be just that bit better. the the feeling of Imagine we we would we score a 90th-minute winner against Tottenham and then it'll be crazy.
00:04:20
Louie Easton
Oh, but
00:04:24
Global Sports Podcast Network
It'll be unbelievable.
00:04:24
Louie Easton
I mean, I think everyone's sort of expecting us to win it anyway.
00:04:24
Global Sports Podcast Network
But...
00:04:27
Louie Easton
i mean, regardless of when we get it done.
00:04:28
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:04:29
Louie Easton
and Yeah, as well, so Sunday it will be great because, mean, it'll be strange because I don't think Spurs fans will be that gutted about losing it because, i mean, they've they're still in the Europa League.
00:04:39
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:04:41
Louie Easton
that's there That's their focus for the rest of the season, just to get anything out of that, ah because then it won't matter how low they finish in the Premier League. not getting relegated i don't know how possible that is now uh but um it would mean that we also take the title away from um their rivals so would be kind of like scotland losing in the six nations to france france won the six nations so england didn't so they didn't mind
00:04:49
Global Sports Podcast Network
yeah
00:05:06
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, no, it'll be very, very similar. I mean, talking about Tottenham, obviously they played against Forest yesterday and, I mean, created lots of chances, but Forest are still pushing for Champions League. They're doing really, really well.
00:05:19
Global Sports Podcast Network
um Do you think it'll be similar to like how Tottenham played against City last season? like They obviously gave it a go. Obviously not the same Tottenham team, but I don't think they'll be looking at doing Arsenal favour and trying to beat us.
00:05:32
Global Sports Podcast Network
They'll just you know be professional and try and get a result, I guess.
00:05:35
Louie Easton
Well, every every time I look at Spurs, I just think it's a disaster.
00:05:41
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:05:41
Louie Easton
ah Just the way they the way they play is just absolutely horrific. i I mean, with that Spurs game, they only started playing in the 80th minute. And by that end, it was too little too late. I think it was two goals. I don't know if they were 2-0 back down at that point. I think they were.
00:05:55
Louie Easton
And i just I just think, how is it the same Spurs? This is the same team that got to the Champions League final... only what six years ago ah so much has changed in the last six years and you can't even blame on injuries because they've got all their players back now um i don't know what's happened to uh cutie romero i mean the fall off has just been insane uh since he came back from his injury mickey van de ven still doesn't look the same player and i mean let's not forget spurs beat us this season it wasn't in the premier league
00:06:16
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:06:19
Global Sports Podcast Network
yeah
00:06:29
Louie Easton
They beat us, but I would be shocked if they got anything out of us. um But also, if Arsenal were to draw against Crystal Palace, we'd only need one point to win.
00:06:41
Louie Easton
They could only catch us on goal difference if we lost every game and they won every game. That's the only way they could win the title. But um well I think we'll get at least a draw ah hit ah ah for the rest of the season if we lose to Spurs.
00:06:57
Louie Easton
ah So, yeah yeah, I'm feeling pretty confident in this one. I don't see Spurs getting anything. And plus, it's ah it's it's it's at Anfield, and we scored six goals at White Hart Lane earlier this season in the Premier League.
00:07:05
Global Sports Podcast Network
That Anfield.
00:07:12
Global Sports Podcast Network
And four in the Carabao Cup semi-final as well earlier this season.
00:07:15
Louie Easton
Oh, yeah, yeah.
00:07:16
Global Sports Podcast Network
So, yeah, and Tottenham's defence this season hasn't been very, very good. Let's just say that.
00:07:22
Louie Easton
I mean, to be fair, playing Archie Gray at centre-back was...
00:07:25
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah. Mm.
00:07:26
Louie Easton
ah That was a desperate time for them. Obviously, they made a couple of signings in January. um But i so I just... The way they play now, yeah every single time. And they're absolutely no threat in attack at all.
00:07:39
Louie Easton
What happened to Jungmin Son?
00:07:40
Global Sports Podcast Network
yeah um people
00:07:41
Louie Easton
He was one of the best players in the world And... and yeah and yeah i yeah I don't... I kind of... I do blame Ange at the same time. You know, you can you can say what you want about injuries and everything, but the way they play at the back with their high line and leave themselves completely vulnerable and just very little threat in front of goal, it's his fault as well.
00:08:04
Louie Easton
The injuries... were awful. um'm not I'm not saying they weren't. But they just play... I mean, these are professional players in the Premier League.
00:08:15
Louie Easton
And they play like they're scared of the tactics.
00:08:17
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:08:18
Louie Easton
And it's it's embarrassing. I'd be embarrassed to be a Spurs fan at the moment.
00:08:23
Global Sports Podcast Network
I mean, they've got 18 Premier League defeats this season. eighteen 18. I mean, that is...
00:08:27
Louie Easton
Oh my goodness.
00:08:28
Global Sports Podcast Network
ah I don't even think that was even possible for this Tottenham team.
00:08:30
Louie Easton
It's a top six side as well.
00:08:32
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:08:32
Louie Easton
18... eighteen
00:08:33
Global Sports Podcast Network
I mean, yeah. You can say injury is all you want, but you know even with injuries, you you shouldn't be getting 18 Premier League defeats. It's absolutely ridiculous. I think a lot Tottenham fans are actually looking at Postacoglu leaving, I think.
00:08:43
Louie Easton
Yeah.
00:08:47
Global Sports Podcast Network
they they They don't want him there anymore.
00:08:47
Louie Easton
Yeah.
00:08:48
Global Sports Podcast Network
I don't...
00:08:48
Louie Easton
ah Okay, but who would they replace him with?
00:08:49
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:08:50
Louie Easton
That's that's my thing.
00:08:52
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:08:52
Louie Easton
Mourinho? Get him back? They've lost four in their last five. Their one win was against Southampton, who are one of the worst sides in the Premier League in years. This is their last five.
00:09:03
Louie Easton
2-1 against Forest. 4-2 against Wolves. I mean, Wolves, can concede four...
00:09:06
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, nice.
00:09:09
Louie Easton
I know Wolves have won their last five, but to concede four against them ah with the quality that you have at the back, And Vicario, who's been one of their only good players this season in goal, not get covering him at all.
00:09:21
Louie Easton
ah Then they won 3-1 against Southampton. Before that, they lost 1-0 to Chelsea. Before that, they lost 2-0 at Fulham.
00:09:29
Global Sports Podcast Network
yeah no
00:09:29
Louie Easton
That's just very little threat and attack ah to score, what, four goals in their last five games.
00:09:38
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, I mean,

Confidence in Liverpool's Success

00:09:39
Global Sports Podcast Network
so, so poor.
00:09:39
Louie Easton
Embarrassing.
00:09:40
Global Sports Podcast Network
But having having said that, is there any part of you that that has a little bit of fear of Tottenham or can they do something?
00:09:41
Louie Easton
It's so bad.
00:09:48
Global Sports Podcast Network
Because you never know with the Tottenham as well. like they I mean, they've gone earlier in the season, they went to the Etihad 1-4-0. Not saying they're going to do that, but do you think on Sunday, because of the anticipation, the the just needing to get over the line, do you think it'll be tense?
00:10:03
Louie Easton
um Well, yes. ah I mean, they they still have good players in attack. ah I mean, Jed Spence, as we've seen this season, has been terrific at left back for Spurs at points.
00:10:16
Global Sports Podcast Network
Mm-hmm.
00:10:16
Louie Easton
i But i look at that midfield, you know, Kuleshevsky starting in midfield. I just like I know that he's had a decent kind of output, seven goals this season in the Premier League.
00:10:27
Louie Easton
ah But he's a winger. He's a right winger. And um you know it's easy's that The tactics that Ange plays um makes it too ah offensive. And you know this it's so easy to get overrun in midfield, especially against a team with as much energy ah with as an honour slots Liverpool.
00:10:48
Louie Easton
um And I just think Gravenberg and McAllister will absolutely have their way with them ah in midfield. Their attack looks good. I mean, it it depends who starts in the right wing. If Wilson-Oderbeer starts in the right wing again,
00:10:59
Louie Easton
I don't really fear him at all because he hasn't got any direct contributions to a goal in the Premier League this season. and Richarlison, I mean, it depends on what kind of day he has. um
00:11:09
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:11:10
Louie Easton
ah i mean, he had that incredible moment against Liverpool to... get that last minute equaliser only for Jota to put it in at the other side. That was one of my favourite moments at Anfield against Spurs.
00:11:22
Louie Easton
And then there's Matthijs Tell. And I just feel like his talents are being completely wasted at Spurs. He's an unbelievable player. I thought for Bayern Munich last season, he was just phenomenal to watch.
00:11:31
Global Sports Podcast Network
Hmm.
00:11:32
Louie Easton
You know, really good on the ball. And ah he has a good shot in him as well. So it depends if they can give him enough support. But their support for the wingers this season, ah other than Brennan Johnson earlier this season, so the support they've been given is very little, especially on the left-hand side.
00:11:49
Louie Easton
um So I'm not too worried. ah But, you know, it's still a Premier League match, so we can't go in completely underestimating them. And I think this Liverpool sea ice side will not because we have the hunger and we have the motivation of ah Premier League title just hanging over this match.
00:12:08
Global Sports Podcast Network
and
00:12:08
Louie Easton
So that i think the passion that we'll play with will be there, um ah especially in front of an Anfield crowd.
00:12:16
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, no, it's going to definitely be buoyant on Sunday. um We're going to take a little bit of a break, but after the break, we'll talk about some people's perceptions of Liverpool being Premier champions.

Defending Liverpool Against Criticism

00:12:51
Global Sports Podcast Network
Fabulous. So, um like i said before the break, Louis, something's been triggering me a lot. I think it's time for a rant. We haven't had many rants on the Daily Liverpool podcast this season because Liverpool been pretty much flawless.
00:13:01
Global Sports Podcast Network
But some rival fans have been opening their mouth a bit too much, which is a bit strange given some of them are in the bottom half of the Premier League table.
00:13:05
Louie Easton
Yeah.
00:13:09
Global Sports Podcast Network
um But there's been this ah notion flying around that apparently Liverpool will be the worst Premier League champions that there's ever been, which, I mean, it's ludicrous. I don't get how you have a worst champion. That doesn't make any sense. It's like having a best loser.
00:13:22
Global Sports Podcast Network
doesn't make any sense. But what are your thoughts? Because I think there has been a lot of rival fans and people kind of downplaying Liverpool's achievements this season. So what was your take on all of that?
00:13:31
Louie Easton
I think it's absolutely ridiculous. We've only lost twice all season. Haven't lost at all at home. And, you know, I've seen a couple of things about this. It's either the worst champions or the fact that Liverpool have underachieved by only winning the Premier League.
00:13:44
Louie Easton
I mean, how... that almost It sounds like an oxymoron, only winning one trophy.
00:13:48
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:13:50
Louie Easton
And they're sort of just... lulling over it because it's I mean it's a Premier League title for goodness sakes I mean yes we were unlucky in the f FA Cup because um we didn't bring a strong side to Plymouth we kind of underestimated them and Joe Gomez went off early still probably should have won that match but it is what it is and then there was ah the League Cup I mean so it that that was what it was as well and the champions league we were defeated on penalties at anfield that's so unfortunate and it was against a team that is probably going to win the champions league this season um but in the premier league you can't take anything away from it i know we haven't been playing our best since the carabao cup final uh that we lost against newcastle very played horrifically in that and we just sort of haven't really recovered from that since
00:14:40
Louie Easton
uh we have trent back uh say what you want about him say what you want about his future after this season uh i've voiced my frustration on that in the last episode but you know it's sort of given us a new life in this uh side that we kind of needed we kind of needed this little bit of motivation this bit of passion that we have been missing and a bit of a bit more running um which trent has done the for so many years now but i mean this whole notion that we're the worst champions i mean come on for the standard i mean the standard the premier league is as good as it's ever been i know that we don't have the most big names you know uh mo salah has probably been the only massive massive name in our side this is i virgil van dyke obviously goes without saying but he's a defender so he doesn't get as much credit but
00:15:30
Louie Easton
You know, this is a team that is almost flawless. How many games have we played now? 33, 34, something like that. To only lose twice in an entire Premier League season is unbelievable.
00:15:41
Global Sports Podcast Network
Hmm. Yeah.
00:15:45
Louie Easton
And we still haven't played against Arsenal. So I think once we beat Arsenal, I'm saying once just because I'm cocky about that. But once we beat Arsenal... we You can't argue with it anymore.
00:15:57
Louie Easton
we've we've done We've done everything that we need to do in the Premier League. Only losing twice up to this point is amazing. So, yeah, I'm not having it. I'm not having it at all.
00:16:07
Global Sports Podcast Network
yeah Not having it at all. I saw an unbelievable stat, which really puts things into perspective, right? That Liverpool have gone... We went 26 games unbeaten from September to April, right?
00:16:18
Louie Easton
Mm-hmm.
00:16:19
Global Sports Podcast Network
Every Man City team on the Pep Guardiola, they've never gone 26 games unbeaten in the Premier League.
00:16:25
Louie Easton
That's insane.
00:16:25
Global Sports Podcast Network
That in itself just shows how consistent Liverpool have been this season.
00:16:27
Louie Easton
That is insane.
00:16:29
Global Sports Podcast Network
like We've just dominated everyone in every game.
00:16:30
Louie Easton
Yep.
00:16:32
Global Sports Podcast Network
I mean, that period from yeah from September to April, I think you only drew we only drew about six or seven of those games and won every single one of the rest.
00:16:39
Louie Easton
Yep.
00:16:40
Global Sports Podcast Network
It's unbelievable. And so I think people downplay the importance of consistency. that's literallyt or To win a Premier title, you need to be consistent, consistently good.
00:16:49
Louie Easton
Yep.
00:16:50
Global Sports Podcast Network
um And I feel like that's just been downplayed so much. um And I think given the fact it's Slott's first season, people seeing the fall off of City, yes, that's happened. But if there was going to be a team that should have stepped up, it was Arsenal and they haven't stepped up.
00:17:04
Global Sports Podcast Network
And Liverpool aren't to blame for that.
00:17:04
Louie Easton
Yeah, it's not our fault.
00:17:06
Global Sports Podcast Network
We've done our job. Yeah.
00:17:08
Louie Easton
Not our fault at all.
00:17:08
Global Sports Podcast Network
Hmm.
00:17:09
Louie Easton
I mean, you can maybe say that the ah the competition of the Premier League, you know, um because how many years was it where it was Liverpool-Man City right at the top fighting until the very end?
00:17:19
Louie Easton
And even last season, Arsenal were in the f fray as well. You can maybe say this is the first time in years where the competition hasn't been great in terms of who's rivaling the champions.
00:17:29
Global Sports Podcast Network
Hmm.
00:17:30
Louie Easton
But if you look at the team that's the worst in the Premier League this season, Southampton, I think that Southampton destroys so many teams like that were just fighting and surviving relegation 10 years ago.
00:17:47
Louie Easton
this the The standard of football in the Premier League is as high as it's ever been. Because that if you look at the Premier League table, you look at like 10th, Brighton and Hove Albion.

Comparing Liverpool to Past Champions

00:18:00
Louie Easton
How many teams in the world does, you know, João Pedro walk into? out How many teams the world does Caro Mitoma walk into? So many.
00:18:08
Global Sports Podcast Network
I'll take it. Yeah.
00:18:09
Louie Easton
and And every team has these players. You know, even Lewis Dunk is absolutely phenomenal. OK, let's do another team now. Fulham. Emile Smith-Rowe. I mean, he felt he fell off, but you watch him play. The boy is special.
00:18:24
Louie Easton
um Even like Wolves. Matthias Cunha.
00:18:28
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah. Yeah. He's been linked with.
00:18:29
Louie Easton
He walks into, he's been one of the best players in the league this season and he's in 15th.
00:18:30
Global Sports Podcast Network
you know
00:18:35
Louie Easton
So but if you want to have that conversation, look at these teams that are mid-table of fighting relegation. This is as good as it's ever been in the Premier League.
00:18:46
Louie Easton
And we have only lost twice. So you can argue with the wall as far as I'm concerned.
00:18:52
Global Sports Podcast Network
yeah and I think it's just it's just weird in terms of like I think what find the weirdest part of this notion that people are coming up with is when City were winning the league but for for four years in a row apparently it was a competitive league but when Liverpool win it a different champion it's no longer competitive that makes no sense to me yeah
00:19:07
Louie Easton
yeah ah it's such a jealousy complex. It's because like, okay, I understand it because Man City, no one really has that much of a rivalry with Manchester City. Maybe Arsenal in this season, but I mean, they they don't have much history in terms of like how much they were winning before the Saudi investment.
00:19:29
Louie Easton
um And, you know, we kind of all would have taken them winning the Premier League over like Man United or Chelsea or especially Arsenal. um but you know now that liverpool have won it and you know we have a fan base that are very loud and uh committed to the club every manchester united fans are getting angry chelsea fans are getting angry and suddenly there's a bit of jealousy and all of these allegations against us brit just keep it coming keep it coming man we're premier league champions

Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah. But... yeah Do you know the thing I find crazy, right? I don't know about you, but when United were winning Premier League titles, when Chelsea were winning Premier League titles, I wouldn't say that they would be the worst. like Genuinely, I'm not even just saying this as like a
00:20:14
Louie Easton
No
00:20:14
Global Sports Podcast Network
i so like as a fan, right? But those Chelsea teams, those United teams that won the Premier League, as much as I hate them, they deserve to win the Premier League because they were they they were the outright champions.
00:20:22
Louie Easton
Yeah
00:20:25
Global Sports Podcast Network
So I don't get where this notion, the the narrative... And I think i think because Liverpool had that little bump in in in March in the Champions League, apparently that's how you know the the whole season we've played like that. i think it's crazy.
00:20:38
Global Sports Podcast Network
It's just completely false.
00:20:39
Louie Easton
Okay, how many teams in the Premier League have ever won the Champions League and the Premier League at the same time?
00:20:45
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:20:46
Louie Easton
That's only happened, what, a couple of times? I mean, it's only happened twice in the Premier League era, I think. No, I can't remember. like that could be
00:20:53
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:20:53
Louie Easton
That could be wrong. But, um I mean, it's not a it's not a bad thing. Like, it's just is just it just means that we're not dominating Europe. But there's absolutely no shame in that.
00:21:09
Louie Easton
um winning the Premier League is probably more important to Liverpool fans on this occasion, just because we've won the Champions League in front of fans before. We haven't won the Premier League in front of fans.
00:21:20
Louie Easton
We haven't won the league in front of the fans since 1990.
00:21:20
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah. Yeah.
00:21:24
Louie Easton
um So I think it's very important that we got this this season.
00:21:25
Global Sports Podcast Network
yeah
00:21:27
Louie Easton
And I think that any Liverpool fan would have taken that. I mean, before the season, if you remember, everyone was talking about, will it be Arsenal or will it be Man City? No one thought that Arna Slott would be able to do this ah straight after Jurgen Klopp left, ah especially with no signings other than Chiesa.
00:21:46
Louie Easton
And... um with with with competing in the Champions League at the same time again so I don't think there's any shame at all and I think if anyone wants to discredit Liverpool's success I think that's just out of jealousy out of bitterness and out of delusion like I don't get me wrong that 2018-19 or side where we where we had
00:21:56
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:22:03
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, completely. Couldn't agree.
00:22:11
Louie Easton
um in the squad and we had that attacking force henderson as the captain in midfield james milner ah being reliable backup in any position i mean we probably would have won the league earlier we probably would have won the league by now with these uh rivals but we still got the job done okay great um and what a way to do it losing only twice up to this point
00:22:36
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, I think what people can't fathom as well is the fact that I think people don't understand that Slott's been able to do this without signing anyone in his first season. like He's just improved players and I think that concept has just gone out of the game.
00:22:49
Global Sports Podcast Network
like People are so they just want new signings. they want and you like we we Even Vance want new signings.
00:22:53
Louie Easton
yeah These are casual Liverpool fans, by the way.
00:22:55
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:22:56
Louie Easton
I'm not having this because they were... Imagine how they would have dealt with the 2011 team that Liverpool had.
00:23:01
Global Sports Podcast Network
Oh, gosh, yeah, tell me about it.
00:23:02
Louie Easton
Oh, my word. When we spent 35 million on Andy Carroll and he just was he scored only like 10 times for us or whatever it was.
00:23:07
Global Sports Podcast Network
It's like 10, not even 10 goals, I don't think.
00:23:10
Louie Easton
I mean, it was that was rough. And, i mean, us celebrating the League Cup final to that level against Cardiff City...
00:23:17
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah. Yeah, I mean, yeah, I mean, this is just why, I mean, we've got to, like, take these moments as, like, this is, like, such a big occasion, and what Sunday hopefully will bring is going to be unbelievable.
00:23:27
Louie Easton
And also, also name one star we've ever signed. One star.
00:23:31
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:23:32
Louie Easton
We've never signed any star for big and money.
00:23:33
Global Sports Podcast Network
I
00:23:35
Louie Easton
that The only one that comes close, ah as far as I'm, I've been a Liverpool fan, is either like Andy Carroll, Christian Benteke, one of those players, because they were pretty good in the Premier League before we signed them, or like Thiago, and we got him at the end of his career.
00:23:51
Global Sports Podcast Network
i was going to say, but TLB the only one.
00:23:52
Louie Easton
Yeah, got him at the end of his career with an injury problem and for like 20 million or something.
00:23:58
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah. Thiago is the only one I could say that we've signed that they were genuinely world-class before they came to Liverpool. I don't think any other player you could say were world-class. Even Van Dijk, you can't say was world-class before to Liverpool.
00:24:09
Louie Easton
No, he wasn't. And plus he was playing for Southampton when we signed him.
00:24:11
Global Sports Podcast Network
There's no
00:24:13
Louie Easton
we We don't sign players from big clubs for big money. That's just not what we do. And Newcastle ah are are a huge club now. They're in the Champions League. They've just won a major trophy.
00:24:24
Louie Easton
We're not getting Isak. Let's get like we're not going to sign Isak. Come on.
00:24:28
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah. It's going to be unrealistic, especially the price tag, because you're you're talking, what, upwards of at least $100 million, $120 million minimum for ISAC.
00:24:29
Louie Easton
Stop that delusion.
00:24:36
Louie Easton
Yeah, I mean, we'll have a big rebuild this summer and I'm sure we'll sign loads of people that we've barely heard of or never heard of. And they'll end up being really good for us. That's just our money ball style.
00:24:48
Louie Easton
that's And I'm very happy with that.
00:24:48
Global Sports Podcast Network
Hmm.
00:24:50
Louie Easton
I have absolutely no problem with FSG, even over this but Trent thing. we And that may be controversial, but they there we go.
00:24:57
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, yeah we'll we'll probably wait and see what happens with Trent.
00:24:59
Louie Easton
It is what it is.
00:25:02
Global Sports Podcast Network
um But that is all for today's episode of the Daily Liverpool podcast. Thank you, Louis, for joining me. um We'll be back on Friday to talk more about the Liverpool-Tottenham game in a lot more detail, as we'll probably hear whether Liverpool have been already crowned Premier League champions because of the Arsenal Palace game, or if we need to beat Tottenham to confirm that status.
00:25:07
Louie Easton
Pleasure.
00:25:22
Global Sports Podcast Network
Thank you, everyone, for listening and have a great day.
