00:01:02
Global Sports Podcast Network
I've got Louis Easton with me to go through what that means for
Champions League Draw Insights
00:01:07
Global Sports Podcast Network
the Reds. Louis, Champions League draw has just done. What's your initial thoughts on the on the drawer
00:01:16
Louie Easton
There's a lot of good fixtures in there. A lot of sort of emotional ones for our players. I mean, I'm looking straight at the Frankfurt one, the PSV one, and of course the Atleti one for our Forever 20. Hopefully there'll be a nice tribute before the match.
00:01:30
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:01:31
Louie Easton
for Diogo for that one. But I mean, just based on the opponents that we've got, it's very tough. And it's so tough that the word tough is now trending on sports Twitter.
00:01:44
Louie Easton
So that's...
00:01:46
Global Sports Podcast Network
Breaking news, ladies and gentlemen, breaking news.
00:01:47
Louie Easton
Yeah. Yeah, you know, it's a it's a good fixture list because it really shows the level that we have to play at now for the Champions League. we've We're coming to the end of this transfer window. After seeing this, hopefully that may motivate our club to get Gueye and Isak in further. And, you know, straight away, that first match, Real Madrid at home.
00:02:10
Louie Easton
I'm sure we'll talk more about the sort of ins and outs of these games as this podcast goes on. But This is the level that Liverpool belong at and I can't wait for those Anfield Knights.
00:02:21
Global Sports Podcast Network
You know what? It's a really good point you make there, Louis, in terms of the transfer window and the targets that are still out there, that you know these deals that haven't yet been concluded.
00:02:33
Global Sports Podcast Network
And, you know, you've got to look at that fixture list and think, yeah, that that does play a part in terms of the urgency that the club has got to act with to get these deals across the line. And also, you've got to say the likes of Alexander Issac. I mean, to be fair, I don't think Issac can do anything more short of like turning out with a ah Liverpool shirt at the next Newcastle training session.
00:03:01
Global Sports Podcast Network
I don't think he do anything more to say, look, I i want to play for you guys.
00:03:05
Global Sports Podcast Network
But let's let's just let's just go through the draw or the teams that have been drawn for
Liverpool's Champions League Fixtures
00:03:11
Global Sports Podcast Network
Liverpool. The dates have yet to be confirmed. I think that's on Saturday.
00:03:15
Louie Easton
Saturday, yeah.
00:03:16
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah. So here are the teams. Real Madrid... home Inter Milan away, Atletico Madrid home, Frankfurt a away, PSV at home, Marseille away, Carabarque at home and Galatasaray away.
00:03:38
Global Sports Podcast Network
So, I mean, you look at those fixtures, Louis, and of course, the the Madrid ones jump out, Inter Milan jumps out.
00:03:51
Global Sports Podcast Network
But the other the other teams are not going to be pushovers. And you've got to say, you've got to say, I mean, I I ah know UEFA comes in for a lot of criticism.
00:04:01
Global Sports Podcast Network
Most of the governing bodies, they come in for a lot of criticism. FIFA, the FA, the Premier League, everyone. i think I just think it's just one of those things.
Thoughts on New Champions League Format
00:04:11
Global Sports Podcast Network
And...
00:04:12
Global Sports Podcast Network
And even I was a bit kind of sceptical when this Champions League new format was was was launched last season. But I've got to say, it's it does look pretty good, doesn't it?
00:04:24
Global Sports Podcast Network
I mean, that there are really yeah there are some really juicy games straight off the bat.
00:04:25
Louie Easton
it's It's growing on you, isn't it? Yeah. Yeah. I mean, I was such an advocate against changing the the the format because I just thought, around Robin, that's fine.
00:04:40
Louie Easton
You know, it really sort of puts teams against each other, gets them to know each other very well, and then the best of those groups advance. But, I mean, ah this is this is a huge takeaway and I know that we need to focus on Liverpool.
00:04:54
Louie Easton
But let me read you PSG's draw because they won the Champions League last season. Listen to this.
Comparing PSG and Liverpool Draws
00:05:01
Louie Easton
Bayern at home, Barca away, Atalanta at home, Leverkusen away, Spurs at home, Sporting away, Newcastle at home, Bilbao away.
00:05:13
Louie Easton
It's just crazy. So do you know what? I think I'll take ours over some of the against them, especially that Carabag one. But the one that stood out to me the most, other than the obvious ones, Galatasaray away.
00:05:29
Louie Easton
that That is a huge one because welcome to hell, exactly.
00:05:32
Global Sports Podcast Network
Welcome to hell, right? Welcome to hell.
00:05:34
Louie Easton
And Galatasaray are a very good team. I don't think a lot of people realise, but the Turkish League has actually come leaps and bounds. They've just signed Aussie men.
00:05:45
Louie Easton
I mean, how on earth did they get the money for that? Not to mention they've already got Icardi. They've still got Torreira. They've got Mario Lamina, I believe, is still there. And of course, Leroy Sane is now at Galatasaray as well.
00:06:00
Louie Easton
So that's culminating.
00:06:02
Global Sports Podcast Network
It's not easy.
Galatasaray's Lineup & Stadium Atmosphere
00:06:03
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:06:04
Louie Easton
it's It's not an easy one, especially since I haven't even mentioned the smoky fans all around the stadium surrounding it like a big bowl, making the pitch feel really small, making the players feel really small. It's it's.
00:06:20
Louie Easton
Champions League.
00:06:20
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:06:21
Louie Easton
It's person like just that image of Champions League.
00:06:23
Global Sports Podcast Network
it's the definition It's the definition of a hostile environment.
00:06:25
Louie Easton
Oh, the epitome. That's the word I was looking for.
00:06:28
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, absolutely. It really is. But yeah, look, i mean, Real Madrid, we we we had Real Madrid last season. This season, obviously, you've got the Trent Alexander-Arnold factor and, you know, the likelihood of him...
00:06:45
Global Sports Podcast Network
Probably being on the bench when he comes to Anfield, if the the if ah if it carries on how it has.
00:06:52
Louie Easton
They'll go for Connor Bradley next year.
00:06:54
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah. and But, so you know, you you look at the the the other teams. I mean, Inter Milan away, that's a great, great tie as well.
00:07:03
Global Sports Podcast Network
And that's going to be a really tough one as well.
00:07:07
Louie Easton
Yeah, absolutely.
Inter Milan Analysis & Liverpool's Strategy
00:07:07
Louie Easton
I mean, Inter, they may not have won the Scudetto last season, but they so did still reach the Champions League final, albeit lose 5-0. But the the fact they got there in the first place, huge testament to them. They've got one of the best defences in the world, you know, the likes of Jan Sommeringold, Bastoni, Acherby, Dumfries.
00:07:30
Louie Easton
all fantastic players, Hakan Chalanolu covering them, and still one of the best strikers in the world in Lautaro Martinez. That's far from a pushover. And, you know, we're going there as well.
00:07:45
Louie Easton
So that makes it even tougher. But... What we have to remember is this is Liverpool. And if there's any team that can beat Inter, it's the team that beat the team that beat Inter 5-0 in the Champions League final in in convincing fashion.
00:08:01
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:08:04
Louie Easton
So i'm not i'm I'm not too worried about it because... You look at these teams, yes, it looks scary on paper, but it's it's Liverpool, and we could even have Isak and Gay by the time we reach that as well. Hopefully that doesn't age terribly.
00:08:20
Global Sports Podcast Network
yeah Yeah, I think it's worth, let's mention other teams and and their kind of path, if you like, to you know to
Barcelona's Draw Challenges
00:08:31
Global Sports Podcast Network
to getting through this Champions League phase. So we've got... You know, Barcelona are up against PSG, Chelsea, Frankfurt, Club Bruges a away, Olympiacos, Slavia Prague, Copenhagen, Newcastle.
00:08:46
Global Sports Podcast Network
I think that's a pretty decent that's pretty decent draw, don't you think? I mean, they've got PSG, they've got Chelsea. I think they'd be reasonably happy with that. Mind you, Newcastle away as well. Yeah.
00:08:59
Louie Easton
Yeah, I mean, it depends on what Newcastle they face, because Newcastle are a bit of an up-and-down team. They can have incredible nights. it at Newcastle, did you say?
00:09:09
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, yeah.
00:09:11
Global Sports Podcast Network
I suppose they'll be out they'll be without Isak as well, so that's going to be a bit of a blow for them.
00:09:16
Louie Easton
Yeah, well, I can't see because he did say that he'll never play for them again. so yeah but that really does make it very interesting, especially since Newcastle could have Strand Larson at that point and we'll see how well he's settled into that team should he go there.
00:09:37
Louie Easton
But also the St. James' Park atmosphere is incredible on Champions League nights. I still remember when they first got into the Champions League. was it PSG or someone that they beat on?
00:09:47
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, it was. It was. Yeah.
00:09:49
Louie Easton
It was PSG and they beat them.
00:09:49
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah. Yeah.
00:09:51
Louie Easton
And the, the Geordies were in fine, fine tune that evening. And that is one of the hardest games to go to because Newcastle are not one of these teams that take European football for granted. They've had to suffer.
00:10:05
Louie Easton
And the fact that they are welcoming the, the likes of Barcelona to their stadium. it's It's when was the last time Newcastle played Barcelona? So it will be, if ever, so it will be an incredible night and quite an intimidating night for the Barcelona players who are going there and they're having to see Jimmy Fivebellies with his shirt off in the, and behind the goal.
00:10:15
Global Sports Podcast Network
yeah
00:10:29
Global Sports Podcast Network
In the winter, yeah. you're right. I mean, you look at the PSG fixtures, there are some tasty fixtures there. Bayern Munich at home, Barcelona away, Atalanta at home, Leverkusen away, Spurs home, Sporting away, Newcastle home and Athletic Club away. That is a a tough fixture list. And let's move on to Man
Manchester City's Draw Overview
00:10:51
Global Sports Podcast Network
City. Man Dortmund at home, Real Madrid away, Leverkusen home, Villarreal away, Napoli at home, Bodo Glimt away, Galatasaray at home and Monaco away.
00:11:07
Global Sports Podcast Network
I'd say that there's some, yeah, I'd say there's a couple of, you know, obviously Dortmund, Real Madrid, maybe Napoli, but I think that I'd be reasonably happy with that.
00:11:14
Louie Easton
I think out of the teams to play against in pot one, I think Dortmund is the one you'd want the most. Not saying that there're they're a team that will not put up much of a fight, but out of the ones that are there, it will be good.
00:11:28
Louie Easton
I mean, that's ah also going to be a big day for Erling Haaland.
00:11:32
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:11:32
Louie Easton
as well so yeah it will be that will be an interesting one but napoli i must say ah ah that that is a team that you do not want to play at the moment because they're already look tominate exactly i mean he's actually probably a world-class midfielder believe it or
00:11:33
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah. McFomney, he started the way he finished last season.
00:11:53
Global Sports Podcast Network
He's absolutely transformed. And it just goes to show, you know, he he got pelters when he was at Manchester United.
00:12:01
Global Sports Podcast Network
And soon as he leaves, you know, he shows what he can do.
00:12:01
Louie Easton
as soon as he left...
00:12:06
Louie Easton
And he's brilliant for Scotland as well.
00:12:08
Louie Easton
He scores a ridiculous amount of goals for the Scotland national team. I mean, I think it was the Euro qualifiers.
00:12:08
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:12:12
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:12:13
Louie Easton
He just went on a bit of a goal-scoring streak there. And trying to remember who else they have in their team. Obviously, they used to have Osim and... What's his name?
00:12:23
Louie Easton
The the Georgian.
00:12:23
Global Sports Podcast Network
They've lost players as well.
00:12:25
Louie Easton
They've lost a lot of players. Yeah, Kvarac Scalier. Yeah, that's the one I was thinking of, but...
00:12:28
Global Sports Podcast Network
I've covered that Gelliot, PSG. I really kind of annoy people so often just by constantly saying, Liverpool, we should have got him.
00:12:36
Louie Easton
De Bruyne now as well.
00:12:37
Global Sports Podcast Network
yet They've got De Bruyne as well now. So, you know, that's that's going to be a ah decent game. i think Arsenal going to be reasonably happy with their draw. Bayern Munich at home, Inter Milan away, Athletic home, Club Brugia away, Olympiacos home, Slavia Prague away, Keirat Almaty home, Athletic club away.
00:13:02
Global Sports Podcast Network
I'd say that they they they will be happy that.
00:13:03
Louie Easton
they should win They should finish pretty high on the table based on their draw.
00:13:07
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
Liverpool's Group Performance Confidence
00:13:08
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:13:09
Louie Easton
as As long as they stay injury-free and they don't have to play Nani Maduweka on the right wing all the time, think they'll I think they'll be okay.
00:13:15
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:13:19
Global Sports Podcast Network
So looking at this draw, Louis, oh are we are we saying that Liverpool are happy? Are they comfortable? Do they just say, well, yeah, you know, there's there's a few tough games in there, but we back ourselves to to come through this.
00:13:35
Louie Easton
Yeah, I think we should. I mean, other than the main three plus Galatasaray, we should be beating Frankfurt. We should be beating PSV.
00:13:46
Louie Easton
We should just about be beating Marseille. I mean, I know they're very good now, but... We are Liverpool. And we should definitely be beating Carabag at home. We can probably play Rio and Gamora, the likes of them, against them.
00:13:56
Global Sports Podcast Network
Hmm.
00:14:00
Louie Easton
Not too worried about it. i think I think we'll probably finish in the top eight. Yeah. So yeah, i'm not I'm not too worried about it. I mean, now that I've taken the time to analyze all of it and not just look at it from name value, it's it's ah it's a decent draw. I'm glad I'm not a PSG fan at the moment. I can tell you that much.
00:14:23
Global Sports Podcast Network
And I um you know, because last season, this kind of revamped Champions League, you know, it would it would it was the first season of that.
00:14:33
Global Sports Podcast Network
And so we were all kind of wondering, you know, how does this play out? You know, is it, is it know, there was a real kind of almost an emphasis on you've got to get into that top eight. You've got to finish in that top eight.
00:14:44
Global Sports Podcast Network
And what what happens, we top the group. We top the group.
00:14:49
Global Sports Podcast Network
And then who do we play in the round of 16? PSG, the eventual winners.
00:14:53
Global Sports Podcast Network
And so I guess that's the beauty of this format is that you you can have an absolutely storming qualification period. but And then you can have a Real Madrid, you can have a Barcelona, an Inter Milan, who they kind of stumble into know the the kind of knockout phases.
00:15:15
Global Sports Podcast Network
And, you know, you're drawn against them early doors in the knockout rounds. And that's what happened to us. So I take what you're saying. I think that maybe there isn't so much of a a kind of like an obsession to top the group.
00:15:32
Global Sports Podcast Network
You've just got to get into that top eight and and really take it from there because it just could be anyone. You could just you could face anyone.
00:15:41
Louie Easton
Yeah. So at the moment, I'm only worried about what's ahead of us and we'll worry about what comes next later.
00:15:49
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:15:50
Louie Easton
But my only worry is, you know, if we had a really bad draw and we or we just played badly throughout it and then we had to play two extra matches.
00:16:01
Global Sports Podcast Network
yeah
00:16:01
Louie Easton
for the qualifie for the qualifiers for the knockout. And that's just what I want to avoid. So as long as we do enough just to get into the top bit, I'm not saying that I want us to win every single match bar one as we did last season. Again, I just want us to sort of put enough in.
00:16:19
Louie Easton
And by the way, this is just happening as we are talking about this. It does look like Newcastle are closing in on a new striker as we speak.
00:16:23
Global Sports Podcast Network
Oh,
00:16:30
Louie Easton
this is ah So we if we have ISAC for next season, that will be even better because Nick Voltemod from Stuttgart is closing in on a move to St. James' Park. as
00:16:41
Global Sports Podcast Network
wow, wow.
00:16:41
Louie Easton
This is happening as I'm talking. I've just seen the tweet from Fabrizio. So there we go
00:16:46
Global Sports Podcast Network
Breaking news.
00:16:48
Louie Easton
I'm excited now.
00:16:49
Global Sports Podcast Network
Isakis packed his bags.
00:16:51
Louie Easton
Yes, he'll be doing this to the Newcastle board, pointing backwards with his thumb.
00:16:53
Global Sports Podcast Network
I'm sorry.
00:16:57
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:16:58
Louie Easton
yeah A taxi.
00:16:59
Global Sports Podcast Network
Phoning up the boss, Eddie, can you give us a lift, please? ah that Well, that's, again, I think there there are so many kind of dominoes that have got to fall in order, you know, for these deals to to happen, right? So with Crystal Palace, there's all this talk about them trying to get a kanji from Manchester City.
00:17:23
Global Sports Podcast Network
which I think will be a good a good signing for for man city ah for ah for Palace. I think that would be a good signing for Palace to get some... He's an experienced defender.
00:17:35
Global Sports Podcast Network
He knows what it means to win. And I think he'd be good for that back line. Because if you're you're losing someone like Mark Gahey, then unless you find another young Mark Gehi, which is going to be difficult for Palace, then I think getting someone like Akanji, who's really experienced, who can just slot into that back four and probably take a leadership position in that back line immediately.
00:18:01
Louie Easton
Yeah, you know, Akanji has played at the highest level now, and it's always been competitive at Man City's backline because you've had injuries there.
00:18:06
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:18:12
Louie Easton
Like, Stones has been injured many times. Diaz was injured for a lot of last season as well.
00:18:15
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:18:18
Louie Easton
So for him to have this sort of new chapter in his career would really benefit him, especially with a team like Palace, who was sort of... mean We've always said Palace are on the up for the last 10 years and it's not really happened, but now it really does, especially with the FA Cup success, with Europe this season for the first time, I think ever, maybe.
00:18:40
Louie Easton
it's it's It would be a great move for both parties. It's just, you know, how much and would it be able to be finished before the transfer window closes? These are the questions that will keep on coming up because...
00:18:54
Louie Easton
at time of recording we've only got three days left until it's slammed shut so let's just hope
00:19:02
Global Sports Podcast Network
Let's just hope. And I think that... I think when you when you have... Obviously, we've already mentioned this in the pod. But I think when you have the Champions League draw kind of done, it just kind of crystallises exactly what we need in the squad. And I think there's a lot of talk in terms of what's our priority.
00:19:25
Global Sports Podcast Network
Is it getting Mark Gay in or is it getting Alexander Issac in?
Debate on Liverpool's Transfer Priorities
00:19:30
Global Sports Podcast Network
And I'm saying not to be greedy, but we we need both. but We need both. But if you if if you were to push me in terms of a priority,
00:19:41
Global Sports Podcast Network
I'm going to disagree with Tom, Tom Goward, who was on the podcast other night. he I think he said that Gahey was the priority.
00:19:51
Global Sports Podcast Network
I'll disagree. I'd say that Isak is the priority. And the reason why I say that is purely because of numbers. is that we've we've got the numbers in defence now.
00:20:03
Global Sports Podcast Network
we've got We've got three left-backs.
00:20:06
Global Sports Podcast Network
We've got two full-backs. We've got four centre-backs. I know that Gomez is injury-prone, but we do have four centre-backs. And because Gomez is injury-prone, he's not someone that has to play every game.
00:20:22
Global Sports Podcast Network
Whereas up front, we've lost Nunes, we've lost Diaz, Bless him, obviously, we've lost Jota. And we brought in Eketike.
00:20:35
Global Sports Podcast Network
And I know that people say we brought in Wurz, but Wurz for me is not in that forward line. he's he's He's more of an attacking midfielder. So I just think that you can rotate more with the defence to save them from fatigue.
00:20:51
Global Sports Podcast Network
I'm not sure where the rotation is between Mohamed Salah, Gakpo, Eketike and Chiesa.
00:21:00
Louie Easton
See, this is this is the thing. I disagree with your defensive... I think you're overlooking ongoing issues with our defence because, you know, you'll remember the COVID season.
00:21:11
Louie Easton
When we had four defenders, all of them went out injured.
00:21:14
Global Sports Podcast Network
No, we had three.
00:21:14
Louie Easton
And three three centre-backs and all of them went out injured.
00:21:16
Global Sports Podcast Network
We had three.
00:21:17
Louie Easton
We brought in Ozan Kabak on loan towards the end.
00:21:19
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:21:20
Louie Easton
We brought up Rhys Williams from the academy. But even so, we've got four at the moment. Van Dijk, how long has he got left? We're going to have to replace him at some point anyway.
00:21:33
Louie Easton
Canate, really shaky start to the season, injury prone.
00:21:36
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah. Terrible stuff.
00:21:38
Louie Easton
Joe Gomez, injury prone as well, barely played at all in the last two years. And then you've got Leone, who's 18 years old. We've still got Rhys Williams, but, you know, he's...
00:21:49
Global Sports Podcast Network
No, I don't think he's good enough.
00:21:50
Louie Easton
know, I don't think he's good enough, and I'm amazed he's still at the club if he's...
00:21:54
Global Sports Podcast Network
Is he at the club?
00:21:54
Louie Easton
Or if he's been...
00:21:55
Global Sports Podcast Network
thought he left.
00:21:55
Louie Easton
so He might have been sold, and we might have not heard about it, which shows how little impact he had on the first team.
00:21:57
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:22:00
Global Sports Podcast Network
Terrible. Terrible. Yeah. Yeah.
00:22:02
Louie Easton
So we do need a new centre-back.
00:22:02
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:22:03
Louie Easton
We need a long-term replacement for Van Dijk, because this does feel like the summer where we are getting and investment for the future, for the next five years, because we've only bought young players in this window.
00:22:14
Louie Easton
And I just don't think that this is a sustainable centre-back list if we want to push for another league title or a Champions League title.
00:22:21
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:22:25
Louie Easton
Because let's face it, that's what we're pushing for again this season.
00:22:27
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:22:28
Louie Easton
Absolutely. I completely agree with you on the striker crisis, if you want to call it that, with them the fact that Eketike is our only recognised Premier League standard striker at the moment.
00:22:38
Global Sports Podcast Network
Hmm.
00:22:42
Louie Easton
You can say Chiesa could maybe be in there, but, you know, we did kind of create that problem ourselves by selling Diaz and selling Darwin.
00:22:50
Global Sports Podcast Network
Do this. Yeah.
00:22:51
Louie Easton
Yeah, so I...

I suppose ri Rio is someone who can make up numbers as well now. he's not he's not going to He's not going to start many big games in the Premier League or the Champions League.
00:23:03
Global Sports Podcast Network
But just in terms of a body, I suppose that he he is someone... He's put himself into the mix now, hasn't he?
00:23:09
Global Sports Podcast Network
He's put himself into the conversation just by virtue of that fantastic winning goal against Newcastle.
00:23:16
Global Sports Podcast Network
And look, you know i I take everything that you you're saying. i I agree with it in the sense that you know We do need both. We need Gay and we need Isak.
00:23:28
Global Sports Podcast Network
I'm just saying that if I had to choose one, if if if it was right, we can only sign one, then I would look at the fact that we've got four centre-backs and say we we've we we have to try and make that work. okay And then if we look at the fact that we've got four attackers, and that one of them is is someone who's 32, 33 years old.
00:23:58
Global Sports Podcast Network
And I don't know whether we can go through an entire Champions League, Premier League campaign with just those four up front. But look, let's...
00:24:06
Louie Easton
Yeah, because it gets congested.
00:24:09
Global Sports Podcast Network
It does. Well, let's let's just hope that, you know, the club do conclude a deal with both. Because I think if we...
00:24:17
Global Sports Podcast Network
Here's a question for you, actually. If we do land Mark Gaye, Do you think Liverpool will try and offload someone like Joe Gomez very quickly in the last few days of the window in much the same way that maybe Kostas Simikas, you know, he's it looks like, you know, Roma are after him, maybe on a loan deal.
00:24:42
Global Sports Podcast Network
But is that something that that would be a possibility? do you think that would be a good thing?
00:24:44
Louie Easton
i I think that would be a bad thing because not only can Gomez cover the centre-back role, but can also play either side of defence.
00:24:47
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah. Yeah.
00:24:52
Louie Easton
He even was tried in defence of midfield.
00:24:52
Global Sports Podcast Network
the entire back line.
00:24:55
Louie Easton
I don't think he was particularly great there. But... you know you can't in my opinion you need five centre-backs because it two of them could be injured at any time especially during the congested part of the season and then we would have to you know bring Rhys Williams back into this sort of right and yes he is still a Liverpool player I did just check and he's 24 years old now more breaking news as it goes on so yeah no I
00:25:21
Global Sports Podcast Network
It's more breaking news.
00:25:24
Global Sports Podcast Network
Rhys Williams is still at Liverpool.
00:25:31
Global Sports Podcast Network
you You get only the biggest biggest ah breaking news here on the Daily Liverpool podcast.
00:25:36
Louie Easton
a Anyway, no to to answer your question, we shouldn't offload Gomez. I can see it potentially happening, but you know we shouldn't.
00:25:45
Louie Easton
We really shouldn't.
00:25:45
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:25:46
Louie Easton
He's trying to get back into the team. He's on the bench now.
00:25:49
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:25:49
Louie Easton
And he's he's very good cover for Canate. In my opinion, he should be starting over Canate at the moment.
00:25:55
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:25:58
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, no, I agree. I just thought thought I'd put the question out there just because, you know, you never know because the the club are always looking to balance the books, especially after what is a unprecedented transfer
Joe Gomez's Role in Liverpool
00:26:11
Global Sports Podcast Network
window for Liverpool.
00:26:13
Global Sports Podcast Network
But I agree. I think you need people like Joe Gomez who are... who are happy to, or you know that they're okay to put up with being on the bench and coming on and playing a bit part, albeit an important part, because you know you you playing 10 or 15 games at Liverpool, those are going to be big games.
00:26:35
Global Sports Podcast Network
They're going to be premier league title run, run in games.
00:26:39
Global Sports Podcast Network
They're going to be champions league games. They're going to be latter stages, the FA cup and the league cup. You're going to be playing for some things. Whereas, yeah, you could go to a, you know, you could go to another club, you know, maybe a mid-term premier and get, and play 38 games, but they're not going to mean anything.
00:26:55
Global Sports Podcast Network
So I think it is really important to have someone like Joe Gomez,
00:26:58
Louie Easton
Yeah, absolutely.
00:27:00
Global Sports Podcast Network
But it does, you know, because someone like Mark Gahey is not going to come into into Liverpool and and sit on the bench.
00:27:00
Louie Easton
He's so reliable.
Newcastle's Signing Impact on Liverpool
00:27:07
Louie Easton

00:27:31
Global Sports Podcast Network

Oh, fantastic. he's got He's got his Liverpool hat on and he's booking the he's booking the train or the flight as we speak. He's already dreaming of his upcoming Anfield night against Real Madrid at home.
00:27:53
Global Sports Podcast Network
I think the ah Daily Daily Newcastle podcast team are going to be driving Isak to the station, right?
00:27:58
Louie Easton
we should we should be We should arrange a crossover with them immediately. Alongside the Arsenal boys who I'm going to be crossing over with very soon as well.
00:28:07
Global Sports Podcast Network
It's all getting very confusing with these crossovers. But that's massive massive news, though, because, again, we mentioned it before, it's one of those dominoes that needs to to fall in order for you know for the ISAC deal to to take place.
00:28:21
Global Sports Podcast Network
