Introduction and Podcast Preview

00:00:09
Global Sports Podcast Network
Hello and welcome to the daily Manchester United podcast, the podcast for fans of the greatest and best club in the world. I'm Matt Wright and joining me today is the fantastic Kieran McGinley.
00:00:21
Global Sports Podcast Network
how's it going ma
00:00:22
Kieran McGinley
ah thank you very much yes it's it's going okay yeah uh had a tune to yesterday uh good stuff good stuff between ah you and dan so uh yeah i'm ready to get stuck in in today's episode which is not a crossover i'm sure you've noticed already
00:00:35
Global Sports Podcast Network
How's it going, mate? Yeah, you're absolutely correct. You might be expecting a crossover, but that's in fact going to come out on Friday. So today it's the Leicester preview. But before we get into that, let's talk about last night.

Analyzing Man City vs Sporting Match

00:00:48
Global Sports Podcast Network
Let's talk about the second coming that is Amarim sporting the Man City.
00:00:55
Global Sports Podcast Network
what was your your what was your reaction
00:00:57
Kieran McGinley
I thought City were quite wasteful. I think one of the Gallagher summed it up perfectly on on commentary for TNT.
00:01:00
Global Sports Podcast Network
b
00:01:06
Kieran McGinley
They didn't think it was going to be that easy, but they were 1-0 up and had you know a raft of chances and they just couldn't seem to bury any of them. yeah know They scored the one.
00:01:15
Global Sports Podcast Network
yeah definitely
00:01:15
Kieran McGinley
But yeah, I think it just summed up with Holland missing a penalty. And yeah, well, yeah.
00:01:22
Global Sports Podcast Network
That was enjoyable. I did enjoy that. I'm not going to lie.
00:01:27
Kieran McGinley
City have been there when we've been there, so it's fine. Don't worry about it.
00:01:31
Global Sports Podcast Network
yeah
00:01:31
Kieran McGinley
round abouts and all that But I think, to be honest with you, I think with the home crowd behind them, you sort of expected sporting. Once they got that first goal, it was it was always going to be tight turning against City.
00:01:43
Kieran McGinley
They bemoaned about injury. i mean look Hang on a minute. This is a Manchester United podcast. Why are we talking about City? port air Sporting, though, um I thought were good. I think, i think like wise you know, great.
00:01:53
Global Sports Podcast Network
right yeah
00:01:55
Kieran McGinley
They took advantage of a City that were wasteful of chances and it showed. They were cutthroat in that second first half. First half, they were all at sea, to be honest with you. I really thought it should have been 3-0 or 4-0 up by half-time.
00:02:05
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah. Yeah, I agree.
00:02:08
Global Sports Podcast Network
ah oh definitely yeah
00:02:09
Kieran McGinley
Really shouldn't. But yeah, I think they might have got away with that first half, but they sure made up for it for the second half. So, if that's a preview of what's to come, ah heart and mouth first halves make it up in the second half.
00:02:22
Kieran McGinley
I don't know. We're just going back to Oli Ball, aren't aren we we can see first and then that spurs us on to do better I don't yeah
00:02:28
Global Sports Podcast Network
Oh, definitely. Yeah. As long as we win, I'm probably going to take it. like you know We take any wins against the top six at the moment. Just thinking about that, though, is Sporting's defence as good as ours?
00:02:39
Global Sports Podcast Network
I know that's a weird thing to say considering our league position, but we both know, actually, the goals conceded, it's it's fairly low. We're we're kind of in top half of the table, I think, aren't we? um And you just look at our back line.
00:02:51
Global Sports Podcast Network
I just feel like it's getting stronger ah week by week. It's just the up top part of the the field, up top of the field. That's where we're struggling. That's where the goals are.
00:03:02
Global Sports Podcast Network
But yeah, last night, I completely agree. agree the first half that was pretty scary there were some great saves you know some bad misses but there was those moments where Jokeres just kind of got ahead and like had a few chances where he made that chip and it was a poor decision but you just kind of thought oh maybe that's where it's going to come there's going to be those lines splitting balls and the second half what what do we start seeing?
00:03:09
Kieran McGinley
Thank you.

Coaching Styles and Player Comparisons

00:03:24
Global Sports Podcast Network
All these lines splitting balls and really weird defending from the City players. Those penalties were terrible. I was thinking, do that more in the Prem. Like, you know, please, that's that's great. I don't know if Amarim's thinking, we'll just get penalties.
00:03:37
Global Sports Podcast Network
I mean, we did have our period where we were getting, I don't know how many penalties it was. They were all justified. Let's get it right. All justified until Jurgen Klopp came along and called out and we didn't get a penalty for like a year or two.
00:03:51
Kieran McGinley
If you if you happen to look at the lack of penalties as a problem, it means you weren't in a box enough, Matt, but that's by the bar.
00:03:58
Global Sports Podcast Network
I just kept thinking we were in the box and I was like, just fall over. I know that's a terrible way of thinking but sometimes you just go plates away
00:04:05
Kieran McGinley
You're the problem with football.
00:04:06
Global Sports Podcast Network
i am the problem
00:04:08
Kieran McGinley
All over like a sack of potatoes. It'll be fine. Now, I think good things to look at, though, for Ruben Amarim. I think you know the system he brings with us is a little bit out there in terms of a United standpoint.
00:04:21
Kieran McGinley
you know we We have played four at the back on occasion at some points over the last seven years. We have played five at the back. you know the The closest I could see to that 3-4-3 was sort of the Van Gaal system, but you'd sort of I would have more called that a five at the back with wingbacks rather than a 3-4-3 with midfielders running up and down the wings and just being the absolute engine on the wings there.
00:04:29
Global Sports Podcast Network
of thinking but sometimes you just got to play to win I am the problem
00:04:36
Global Sports Podcast Network
yes yeah
00:04:45
Kieran McGinley
And I was sort of thinking what what sort of players could could fit in that role. and And this is a time where you would have loved someone like Park Ji-sung to be maybe 20 years young, absolute engine on the wings there, running up and down all day long.
00:04:49
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yes.
00:04:53
Global Sports Podcast Network
oh hundred percent yeah
00:04:58
Kieran McGinley
I mean, he could have run for, well, he'd run a marathon and he would still play 90 minutes the next day. He was absolutely insane. But enough about reminiscing on my part.
00:05:05
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah. Yeah, brilliant player. I like it.
00:05:08
Kieran McGinley
It's a case of...
00:05:09
Global Sports Podcast Network
I'm not going to lie.
00:05:10
Kieran McGinley
Yeah.
00:05:10
Global Sports Podcast Network
If you want to reminisce, we can do it a little bit. I was going to say also just a bit more recently, Ananda Herrera. I miss that guy. Bless him.
00:05:16
Kieran McGinley
Yeah.
00:05:16
Global Sports Podcast Network
But absolutely, that kind of engine in the system.

Amorim's Impact and City's Challenges

00:05:20
Global Sports Podcast Network
Who's it going to be? Is it going to have to be a guard? Is he going to have to step up there?
00:05:24
Kieran McGinley
On the wing, you mean?
00:05:25
Global Sports Podcast Network
Sorry, no. Sorry, you were asking. ah Sorry, I understand. I was thinking more about Park playing more centrally.
00:05:33
Kieran McGinley
I see. Yeah, yeah.
00:05:33
Global Sports Podcast Network
Sorry, yeah.
00:05:34
Kieran McGinley
No, i know I understand because he sort of did a little both there, quite versatile in that midfield. But yeah, I mean, you could put him anywhere, to be fair. He'd do a solid job. You could put him in goal. He'd do a solid a job. That is the part of the key to our the heart side there.
00:05:44
Global Sports Podcast Network
Probably,
00:05:48
Kieran McGinley
And yeah, I think Amorim is an interesting one. He certainly has the ego to go with him as well. He really does remind you of Mourinho coming to the club.
00:05:56
Global Sports Podcast Network
he does yeah
00:05:57
Kieran McGinley
you know big big yeah A big name coming in now and saying, well, I mean, actually handing it over to Pep Guardiola and saying, well, that's that's what you're in for. yeah I take over Manchester United, that's what you'll be in for.
00:06:09
Global Sports Podcast Network
yeah. He yeah it's a stark warning isn't it
00:06:11
Kieran McGinley
Well, look, the last time a Manchester United manager got out a warning like that, it was, era's come to an end. ah you ah Yeah.
00:06:19
Global Sports Podcast Network
yeah we don't we don't want to recall that um ah maybe it does, but it's just after Ten Hag. He was referring to Amorim. That's that's what he was saying.
00:06:28
Kieran McGinley
I'm sure he was. Yeah, that statue is referring to.
00:06:30
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, yeah. Future-proofing.
00:06:31
Kieran McGinley
You're right. Definitely not about City and Liverpool at the time. Definitely.
00:06:35
Global Sports Podcast Network
No, no, no. Definitely not. But um yeah, I agree. it's He has got something, a bit of charisma that Ten Hag didn't have. But also, he was very humble about that game last night. I mean, we're we're saying, ah for me, begrudgingly, yeah, they probably should have been battered in the first half, but they weren't.
00:06:52
Global Sports Podcast Network
And Aram said that, he said, we were very lucky, you know, but some of these nights are kind of written for you. And, you know, what a way to end his time there with that result you know
00:07:04
Kieran McGinley
i Perfect, isn't it really? Beating arguably one of the best best built sides in the world, not just in Europe, in the world. and know World football looks on Manchester City with envy of the facilities they have, the squad they have.
00:07:18
Kieran McGinley
And OK, they're bemoaning about the squad depth, but that squad in itself is worth a billion, maybe even more than that. So I'm not too worried about their squad depth. They'll they'll survive. They'll be okay.
00:07:29
Kieran McGinley
um I wonder, though, you know how how long they can sustain themselves.
00:07:29
Global Sports Podcast Network
time there with that result. yeah
00:07:34
Kieran McGinley
If if if it is true, then Amarim's taken full advantage of the the the lack of you know fit players at City. But you know you can only play what's in front of you.
00:07:44
Kieran McGinley
And for Amorim there, he's done exactly that. I think that was a tired City side that was going up against. There were clumsy challenges, especially from Gravadiol.
00:07:51
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:07:53
Kieran McGinley
You know, as a defender, you don't normally see him make a challenge as clumsy as he did. He's normally...
00:07:59
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, it was very unusual. Just both penalties, you just thought, ooh, that's not normal City defending there.
00:08:04
Kieran McGinley
Yeah.
00:08:07
Global Sports Podcast Network
It's almost like their heads have gone a little bit, which you don't see.
00:08:11
Kieran McGinley
yeah
00:08:11
Global Sports Podcast Network
I mean, they lost three times in a row in a week, you know, that but this is ah unfortunately a side that's won the Prem four in a row.
00:08:18
Kieran McGinley
yeah yeah i four in a row yeah i had to finish
00:08:20
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, it's hard for me to say it. But you never know. City could be out of the league after the court case. And then Amorin, he doesn't get to play Pep and City and you just, oh, what what a disappointment.
00:08:34
Global Sports Podcast Network
And we don't even have to care about this anymore, you know.
00:08:35
Kieran McGinley
it for you. Yes, sir. Yeah. We have to be very careful about our words here because, you know, the lawyers will be eagerly Yeah.
00:08:40
Global Sports Podcast Network
Well, i you know, alleged. Yeah, absolutely. It's alleged. But, you know, I'm just saying there's a possibility, you know, it could happen. Yeah.
00:08:49
Kieran McGinley
I mean, look, we'll we'll play what's in front of us and yeah, Amarim won't have long to face Pep again in the Premier League, so that's going to be an interesting one. i'm Yeah, that'll be one, a clash of heads for that one, that's for sure
00:09:00
Global Sports Podcast Network
yeah, that's um December, isn't it? I think coming up.
00:09:03
Kieran McGinley
yes
00:09:04
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, it is. Right. Well, we're going to take a short break and then we will be back to discuss the lester game

Leicester Match Preview and Expectations

00:09:56
Global Sports Podcast Network
So I think we're probably done discussing City but really we're discussing Amrim of course. um We've got another home game coming up.
00:10:06
Global Sports Podcast Network
I think it's Ruud's final ah game, and that's against Leicester on Sunday. We have played Leicester in the Cup, and we did give them a bit of a battering, but we're going into this as well with possibly a disappointing result.
00:10:20
Global Sports Podcast Network
I felt the same as you, Kieran. I think we probably missed the trick with that one. I think it was there for the taking. So with this Leicester game coming up, what's your thoughts and feelings? Do you think it's going to be the same again?
00:10:31
Global Sports Podcast Network
Because it was the Leicester B team that we played.
00:10:35
Kieran McGinley
I think it's a must win. There's there's no other the way for it.
00:10:38
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:10:39
Kieran McGinley
I think when I was speaking to Dan a couple of episodes ago, he was sort of talking me around to saying, well, actually, if if you said at the start of the season we'd get a point against Chelsea, you know when they're challenging the top four and we're struggling, you you know sometimes you'd have bitten your hand off for that.
00:10:54
Kieran McGinley
So perhaps me sort of thinking ah it was a missed opportunity meant that we actually played better than I thought we would in that game. So yeah to come away with the draw is, yeah, a little bit downbeat, but when you look at the game as a whole, it wasn't the greatest game from either side, let's be fair.
00:11:08
Kieran McGinley
And for the most draw-iest game in Premier League history, in the modern Premier League history, I should say, kind of a draw was always the expected way. 20-odd draws between the two sides over the course of the modern Premier League era.
00:11:20
Kieran McGinley
So, I guess an expected result, and I'm hoping that, you know, Leicester, we host Leicester on Sunday, as you said, and hopefully we give them, well, hopefully we take away three points.
00:11:32
Kieran McGinley
I can't really see any other alternative because Rube Van Nistelrooy is undefeated. You know, I'm lining up all these stats ahead of...
00:11:42
Kieran McGinley
to yeah These in interns are very good.
00:11:42
Global Sports Podcast Network
just just Just like Carrick, isn't it, as well? I think it's these interims are pretty good.
00:11:48
Kieran McGinley
Yeah, very good indeed.
00:11:48
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah. ah but Bar Ragnik, that didn't go so well, but he was right about a lot of things.
00:11:53
Kieran McGinley
ah He was right about a lot of things.
00:11:54
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:11:54
Kieran McGinley
Yes, absolutely. And it it comes to obviously looking at it, we'll we'll talk about a combined 11. No, that's for tomorrow. That's for Raleigh tomorrow to sort that out with Leicester.
00:12:04
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:12:05
Kieran McGinley
We're going to talk about our preview, what we think and how we think it's going to line up ah later on as well. But, I mean, the entry list is not getting shorter. It was great to see young Lennie Yoroh back

Player Updates and Key Performances

00:12:16
Kieran McGinley
in training, though, this morning.
00:12:17
Global Sports Podcast Network
Oh, definitely.
00:12:18
Kieran McGinley
Really good to see that, you know.
00:12:18
Global Sports Podcast Network
yeah
00:12:19
Kieran McGinley
18 years old, bags of potential. I'm really looking forward to sort of seeing when he could make his way back. um and There's also whispers about Malassia as well, close to fitness, or but at least back in training.
00:12:31
Global Sports Podcast Network
okay
00:12:33
Kieran McGinley
so yeah i how How much or how often or how long they've got before they make their way back, I wouldn't really expect Jorah to be back until about the middle of this month ah to full fitness at the very least.
00:12:45
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yep.
00:12:45
Kieran McGinley
And with a centre-back of his quality and of his age, you'd want to sort of say, yeah, get him in the squad as soon as possible. But, you know, the injury he had, I think, which is, ah I'm trying to think what he had.
00:12:57
Kieran McGinley
It was a foot for injury? Something.
00:13:00
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah. Oh, he's definitely wearing a boot, so quite possibly.
00:13:00
Kieran McGinley
Hmm. I forget what exactly the injury is, but it's one of those foot injury you don't want to exacerbate it too much so yeah exactly someone or even luke shaw at this point well someone who you know unfortunately is just getting injury prone so yeah i hopefully the the medics and the the physios and the sports scientists have done their magic and hopefully will ease Lenny Oro back into first-team contention.
00:13:10
Global Sports Podcast Network
Sure, yeah. You don't want another molassia do you really
00:13:15
Global Sports Podcast Network
ahli short yep ye
00:13:31
Global Sports Podcast Network
i'm sorry i just laughing then because i just have no faith in our medical department giving track records.
00:13:37
Kieran McGinley
I'm living on copium. It's fine.
00:13:40
Global Sports Podcast Network
Absolutely. But yeah, you know, it it would be great to see him back. You know, it was like Rasmus coming back. It's just such a boost and we do need the players. We do need the cover. And I think we're going to go into Christmas period.
00:13:52
Global Sports Podcast Network
We're going to need to actually, you know, rotate the squad.
00:13:55
Kieran McGinley
yeah
00:13:55
Global Sports Podcast Network
That's a perfect time for him coming in. I didn't know about Molassia, but I just worry about him. It's a long time out of football. That takes a lot of time to get Peshawar again. And, you know, when he was playing, you could see there was potential there.
00:14:06
Global Sports Podcast Network
I just loved how he wanted to go forward.
00:14:10
Kieran McGinley
Yeah.
00:14:10
Global Sports Podcast Network
And I really like that. I know you Luke Shaw is the better left back, but he can be guilty of just recycling possession and passing it back. And that's fine. But I think when you've got a Garnaccio type like that, I thought maybe Molassi would suit that for sure.
00:14:27
Kieran McGinley
Yeah. Yeah, I agree. Manassio is one of those really attacking fullbacks. I mean, fullbacks are loose term. He's a wingback, let's be honest.
00:14:37
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:14:38
Kieran McGinley
Fantastic quick wings.
00:14:38
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:14:39
Kieran McGinley
And yeah, if it was that knee injury that hopefully he is going to recover from, ah knee injuries are no mean feat. You have to be really on it in terms of recovery and rehabilitation program to come back from a knee injury.
00:14:53
Kieran McGinley
They are not the easiest things to come back from. So it's a case of as well, like you say, it's a long time he's been out. How much does that affect his confidence? How much does that affect you know his his quickness.
00:15:06
Kieran McGinley
you know the Those players that are so explosive at young in age can, once they have a knee injury, that that takes a good chunk of speed off of them, a good chunk of acceleration off of their overall physical you know the physical way of of playing.
00:15:08
Global Sports Podcast Network
Thank you.
00:15:20
Kieran McGinley
and we Let's just compare, let's just bring in R9 into the conversation. Yeah, you didn't expect R9.
00:15:27
Global Sports Podcast Network
No, i wait i'm I'm interested to see where you're going not jinx it.
00:15:29
Kieran McGinley
But he, absolutely explosive on the ball, but consistent knee injuries eventually led to an early retirement. So these players that are so, you know, based so much of their game in being a physical presence, quick on the ball, quick acceleration, quick thinking to to match that as well.
00:15:47
Kieran McGinley
It's those knees and knee injuries that can really, really hurt you and your long-term career. So yeah, again, like, like I've said before, hopefully their rehabilitation program is going well, but yeah, reports are that he's back in training, which is yeah always good news to have a playerback
00:16:08
Global Sports Podcast Network
Let's hope that Needs made a titanium now and he's going to be back.
00:16:09
Kieran McGinley
we are
00:16:12
Global Sports Podcast Network
But, you know, when you say that about young players getting injured, I just think when Luke Shaw had that leg break, I would say he's never been back to that level. Maybe he's he's grown as a player more tactically and technically, but in terms of that raw pace and energy, I don't think we've ever got that back.
00:16:28
Global Sports Podcast Network
And I think maybe it's more psychological as well.
00:16:29
Kieran McGinley
is always good news to have a player back.
00:16:32
Global Sports Podcast Network
I think, like you said, being out of the game for so long, getting put thrust back into the Prem, I think he'll probably be in some of the cup games.
00:16:33
Kieran McGinley
yeah
00:16:39
Global Sports Podcast Network
And that's where we'll build him back.

Leicester's Threats and Lineup Strategy

00:16:42
Global Sports Podcast Network
In terms of Leicester, though, they're not the Leicester of old, but they've still got Jamie Vardy so and he's still scoring.
00:16:42
Kieran McGinley
Yeah. Yeah.
00:16:50
Kieran McGinley
And he's still scoring.
00:16:52
Global Sports Podcast Network
And I was going to say, who do you think is the potential thorn for this game? If there's anyone who's going to cause us problems, who might it be
00:17:01
Kieran McGinley
Hmm. Well, ah there's quite a few really, isn't there? Let's be honest. We're we're not in the best of form right now. um god Yeah, I think Buonanotte has been decent.
00:17:14
Kieran McGinley
I think he's going to be one to watch going into this one. I think Harry Winks, you know, he had his tumultuous time at Tottenham as well, but I think he's a decent holding midfield player. like you know So I wouldn't underestimate him, maybe even to get a a goal from the midfield, to be honest with you.
00:17:23
Global Sports Podcast Network
it be? I agree. Yeah, he
00:17:30
Kieran McGinley
it's It's a type of game that promotes you know your midfielders to drive forward and get on the counter-attack. I assume that's what Leicester are going to be doing. Leicester have had an average possession of 48% so far in the Premier League, Manchester United 52%.
00:17:44
Kieran McGinley
So you're sort of you're sort of looking at that and thinking, yes, ah Manchester United at home, we should have most of the possession.
00:17:44
Global Sports Podcast Network
is. Definitely. Yeah. Interesting.
00:17:51
Kieran McGinley
you know We should be in the high 50s at the very least. So for Leicester, it's all about really how much can they hurt us on the counter. And they have Jamie Vardy and he looks like he's only lost a couple of miles an hour.
00:18:02
Kieran McGinley
And that's not a lot considering how good Jamie Vardy is.
00:18:05
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, definitely. yeah He's so scary, isn't he? When he's on the pitch, you just think, he's going to get something. And that's why I kind of brought him up because I'm just like, i i bet they're going to put him on and he's going to score a goal.
00:18:15
Global Sports Podcast Network
He can just feel it.
00:18:17
Kieran McGinley
You can, can't you? It's inevitable.
00:18:18
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:18:19
Kieran McGinley
Jamie Vardy is inevitable. You heard it here, Lester.
00:18:22
Global Sports Podcast Network
That's that's that's a good one. Maybe i'll title a video that
00:18:26
Kieran McGinley
When I'm proven right, it'll be fine. Well, Leicester in 15th, though. let's Let's not forget. So this is Leicester on 10 points, Man United on 12. So, yeah, this is that's is what I'm saying.
00:18:36
Global Sports Podcast Network
I'll title the video that. we have to win yeah
00:18:38
Kieran McGinley
We sort of have to win this game to get ourselves back up into, well, hopefully battling away for top half. You've got Fulham, Bournemouth, Newcastle, 9th, 10th and 11th, all on 15 points at at the time of recording.
00:18:48
Kieran McGinley
So, yeah, this has to be a must-win game. And if it's not, we've we've got our serious questions, even in this interim period.
00:18:56
Global Sports Podcast Network
yep no completely agree We cannot be below Leicester or I think we're probably relegation fights. We're getting close enough. And I don't think Amarim wants to come in and have to deal with that. So I'm just going to go to another break, actually. Yep. And we'll be back with more United content. See you in a sec.

00:19:56
Global Sports Podcast Network
So we've discussed Jamie Vardy and a few other players, but really let's talk about United again. That's what we're here for. What are for 11?
00:20:05
Kieran McGinley
Oh, here we go. Well, I think anana in goal is just going to be the given here. I love to just launch that in there straight it straight away. um To be honest with you, i'm I don't think Rudy's going to change into a 3-4-3 yet.
00:20:19
Kieran McGinley
He'll stick with the 4-2-3-1, I think. I don't think we're going to see a lot of changes from our last game against Chelsea I'll be completely honest with you ah we had Anana in goal there Dalo and Maserawi on the full-back roles Martinez and De Ligt there in the centre or the heart of defence Agata and Casemiro there Rashford and Ganache on the wings Fernandes through the middle and Hoyland up top to be honest with you I don't really see see many many changes.
00:20:45
Kieran McGinley
Ericsson is a doubt. hes He might be out with a knock, so he can't fill in that role in the middle of the park there. So again, injuries are are slightly holding us back at this at this point. Kobi Mainu is still out and with a thigh injury until at least, well, it was thought to be late October.
00:21:00
Kieran McGinley
It's a little bit longer than that now. As we've already mentioned, Leni Yoro is back in training. Mason Mount is back in training now and after that hair head injury he had. I believe it was a concussion, wasn't it?
00:21:09
Global Sports Podcast Network
Thank you.
00:21:10
Kieran McGinley
He he sustained.
00:21:11
Global Sports Podcast Network
It's a long time to be out for a head injury, isn't it?
00:21:14
Kieran McGinley
Yeah, it is. so yeah well All we can do is wait and see, but I can't see many changes. The the only one I would think of is Diallo, Amad Diallo on the wing.
00:21:25
Global Sports Podcast Network
That's what we all wish for, isn't it? every Every time we do this, we're just saying, please can Ahmad start on the right, please.
00:21:30
Kieran McGinley
i i yeah But honestly, from my heart, I i can't see... I see an unchanged side from Chelsea because I don't think... Brudel will be looking at that and thinking, well, the the team didn't play awfully, managed to get a point.
00:21:43
Kieran McGinley
So he'll
00:21:47
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, I think he will. ah Even though we didn't win the Chelsea game and there wasn't a lot to shout about, we still had our chances. um I really was saying to Dan, I thought one of the reasons we looked so bad is Garnaccio had a really bad game.
00:22:06
Global Sports Podcast Network
A really bad game. And you think about the season, actually, he's probably one of the more consistent performers. But you just saw it when he was just getting offside and getting agitated early on in the game.
00:22:17
Global Sports Podcast Network
There was something a bit off with him. And then for the rest of the game, there's a poor decision making, some misses and so on. I think, you know, I think we're going to see the same side because I think Rudel recognized that in the same way he's kind of backed Casemiro and said, you know what, this guy's a good player, he might have an off game, but when he's on, he's on.
00:22:36
Global Sports Podcast Network
And I think that Ugarte-Casemiro midfield is kind of looking okay. It's not amazing, there's nothing to write home about, but it's looking okay.
00:22:47
Global Sports Podcast Network
And maybe Ruud's warming Gagate up for Amorim.
00:22:49
Kieran McGinley
Hmm.
00:22:52
Global Sports Podcast Network
Who knows? Like, you know, but at least we're seeing him. He's not on the bench anymore. You know, that was the bizarre thing with Ten Hag, wasn't it?
00:22:56
Kieran McGinley
yeah
00:22:58
Global Sports Podcast Network
It was, you bought this player seemingly for this role, yet he's not starting. So I agree with you. And I think i think every manager has a soft spot for Rashford.
00:23:09
Kieran McGinley
Yeah.
00:23:09
Global Sports Podcast Network
I'm not going to dig him out again. But I think, yeah, Rude's going to probably play him on the right or the left, or it's going to be that kind of switch. And you do notice that very early on, actually, in the Chelsea game, Garnaccio turns to um Rude and he cycles, rotates his hands to basically say, do you want us to swap sides?
00:23:27
Global Sports Podcast Network
And they did. And you did see that quite a lot. But i've seen we've seen that under Oli, we've seen it under Ten Hag.
00:23:29
Kieran McGinley
Thank
00:23:32
Global Sports Podcast Network
I quite like that. It would be great if we could have it when we had like Martial and Mason Greenwood and all three of them rotated. That was quite exciting. But I think obviously Hoyland is that central striker.
00:23:47
Global Sports Podcast Network
He's not really going to be moved. What do you think about Xerxa?
00:23:49
Kieran McGinley
you.
00:23:50
Global Sports Podcast Network
We spoke about it a bit yesterday. Do you think he has a key role in this game?
00:23:56
Kieran McGinley
I think this is a type of game that he could do well in.
00:23:58
Global Sports Podcast Network
Hmm.
00:24:00
Kieran McGinley
you know as as This is a game we want to control. And I think Xerxes offers that chance to hold up the play and bring others in. Whereas we saw against Chelsea, we saw Hoyland running in behind over the top balls from the likes of Casemiro in the heart of that midfield for then Hoyland to run onto, latch onto and try and get the chance away.
00:24:22
Kieran McGinley
Xerxes is much more comfortable with the ball being played to his feet and he's able to turn and he's able to bring other players in.
00:24:26
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yes, yeah, yes
00:24:28
Kieran McGinley
This seems like a good opportunity, a good match to use some of that if the Hoyland tactic doesn't work. And I've always said you you do need different types of strikers. Hoyland and Xerxes, completely different ideologies and mindsets.
00:24:43
Kieran McGinley
You see Hoyland you know advancing wide. You don't really see Xerxes drifting wider. You saw him see him stay central, dropping deep, maybe even to win the ball back.
00:24:49
Global Sports Podcast Network
he is
00:24:53
Kieran McGinley
So if there's a game where he's going to do well, I would have thought it's this one. In a game where we're expected to control possession, well, dominate it if we can, this yeah it it seems like a really iron ideal opportunity to use Xerxes, but will he start?
00:25:07
Kieran McGinley
I don't think he

Team Dynamics and Match Predictions

00:25:08
Kieran McGinley
will. I think he'll be ah it will be brought on as a sub, of course.
00:25:09
Global Sports Podcast Network
Thank you.
00:25:10
Kieran McGinley
He's probably one of our for our only few fit first-team players to be put on the bench. So I definitely think he'll come on, but yeah, there'll be a completely different style change when he does come on
00:25:22
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, I would like to see Obi Martin on that bench. You know, I kind of thought we might have seen him in the cup game, but it is what it is. Yeah, I think the Xerxes is a completely different style of player.
00:25:34
Global Sports Podcast Network
I just want to see him utilised properly and see the best out of him. Me and Dan were speaking and we thought there's a bit of a confidence thing going on here, I think.
00:25:44
Global Sports Podcast Network
More than just the way he's being asked to play. Something just looks a little off. There was the video with Ahmad where it did not look friendly.
00:25:49
Kieran McGinley
does come on.
00:25:53
Global Sports Podcast Network
I don't know if you saw that. So I'm not sure what's going on, but hopefully Ruud's kind of got that under control and we can see something from him on Sunday, really. I think we just all want to see our new signings do well and so far we've been pretty good.
00:26:08
Global Sports Podcast Network
We're all raving about Maserawi, we can't stop.
00:26:09
Kieran McGinley
Thank you.
00:26:12
Kieran McGinley
yeah
00:26:12
Global Sports Podcast Network
The fear is when he gets injured, that's the fear.
00:26:15
Kieran McGinley
dumbng
00:26:16
Global Sports Podcast Network
So the only thing I will add to this is let's not have any more injuries as well this game. Let's win, no You know, let's come back saying that was a positive result in every single form.
00:26:28
Kieran McGinley
Yeah. Don't. If Mas Raui gets injured, I'm holding you personally responsible.
00:26:29
Global Sports Podcast Network
I'm a jinxer. No, no, no, no, no. He's bulletproof. He's bulletproof, this guy.
00:26:39
Kieran McGinley
Well, I think, um I suppose we should round it off, really.
00:26:39
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah,
00:26:42
Kieran McGinley
We've we've bought it.
00:26:43
Global Sports Podcast Network
we should.
00:26:43
Kieran McGinley
yes but I think ah score prediction from myself is 3-1 United. I don't normally get a huge win, a big win on the side. I'm normally the pessimist of the group when it comes to score predictions.
00:26:56
Kieran McGinley
But I'm going to put, Pony Charles.
00:26:59
Global Sports Podcast Network
We should. I like that score. I don't want to copy you, though. I don't want to copy you, but I do think we're going to win. I do think there's going to be the Jamie Vardy goal or the Jordan Ayou goal, which apparently now he's scoring for them.
00:27:11
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, you know, they do have goals. And I think, you know, they did put two pastors in the league with their B team. So we are vulnerable. I think they'll get a goal. So I agree with you. I think they'll score one.
00:27:22
Global Sports Podcast Network
You know what? Let's say 4-1. Let's make it even more fun for United fans. Why not? Okay.
00:27:29
Kieran McGinley
That sounds like fun. Well, we've we've got a Sunday to wait to see who was right and let's see how wrong we were.
00:27:31
Global Sports Podcast Network
As long as we win, no injuries. Amazing. We're both going to be very happy. On that note, we will leave it there for today.
00:27:41
Kieran McGinley
Absolutely.
00:27:43
Global Sports Podcast Network
