Introduction and Hosts

Global Sports Podcast Network
Hello, everyone. Welcome back to the Daily Manchester United. Happy Monday. Happy three points. Guess what? We're ninth now. We're coming for your city. We're only a few points behind now. My name is Kieran.

Manchester United vs Everton Discussion

00:00:21
Global Sports Podcast Network
Today, I'm joined alongside Matt Wright. Matt smiles on our faces. Yes, it's only Everton, but still big three points.
00:00:29
Matt
Definitely. I think you're just seeing some nice things. You're seeing things come together in such a short space of time. But, you know, it is Everton. We've got Arsenal coming, but it's nice to feel good about United and it's nice to hear the stadium rocking.
00:00:45
Matt
Like you could hear it. I mean i was watching on the telly and you could just hear the fans the entire game. And I was like, this is good.
00:00:51
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:00:51
Matt
This is what we want.
00:00:52
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, no, I mean, let's face it.

Analyzing Key Players and Game Turning Points

00:00:54
Global Sports Podcast Network
The first half an hour was a bit nip and tuck for a bit. there Everton had a big chance ah to get forward there.
00:00:57
Matt
Yeah.
00:01:00
Global Sports Podcast Network
Beto and Pitt in the side netting after finding a way past Anana. I mean, we always knew Anana's going to be an eccentric keeper. He's going to come off his line sooner than any other keeper. He's going to make that decision much quicker than anybody else.
00:01:12
Matt
Yeah.
00:01:12
Global Sports Podcast Network
um Almost cost us there, but once Rashford got that goal, I mean, his finish was great. He was heading into the, nestling into that bottom left before Jarrad Branthwaite sort of took it away from Pickford once and for all. And once we scored that goal, map there was no looking back.
00:01:27
Matt
Yeah, it literally was a turning point. It's very, you know, you you always say that the first goal is the most important, but before that we were so sloppy. I thought we were very creative though. I was watching it going, we're doing lots of really interesting things here, balls over the top to the wing wingers, you know, intricate kind of passing, but we were sloppy.
00:01:46
Matt
We were losing possession too much. And Everton, every time they got the ball, they were hammering through our midfield and you're thinking,
00:01:51
Global Sports Podcast Network
Hmm.
00:01:53
Matt
I don't think we're playing bad. We just need to shape up. We get that goal when everything calms down.
00:01:59
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:01:59
Matt
ah From there, it was a dominant game. It was brilliant, really.
00:02:04
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, as we said, you know, once we've got that first goal, everything just fell into place after that. I think, um yeah, Everton really had a chance in that opening half an hour to really, you know, get a goal against Old Trafford.
00:02:15
Global Sports Podcast Network
I mean, let's face it, they came in with a game plan, you know,

Ahmad's Impact and Team Dynamics

00:02:18
Matt
Oh, yeah.
00:02:18
Global Sports Podcast Network
attack, this you know, attack the other Stretford end first or, yeah you know, make United play away from that end in the second half.
00:02:25
Global Sports Podcast Network
Didn't quite work out, but you could see the mind games trying to, yeah and unravel pure sean dike nature of of those sorts of mind games didn't quite play off for them and i did say in that preview on friday that you know pickford's one of those you know he can be a weak link um and because he he lets the big games get to him not in the way that he sort of shrivels up and you know concedes to a big game not because he hates them but because he loves them he gets too into them but i think
00:02:43
Matt
Yeah.
00:02:54
Global Sports Podcast Network
not a lot he could have done about the first goal, the second goal he's left completely exposed, third goal is pretty much the same. I mean I don't think in all honesty there was a lot Pickford could have done, he needed a lot of help from his back foot which he just didn't get.
00:03:07
Matt
No, I think so. I mean, he did have a few moments in the first half where it was classic Pickford, where I think he he' almost chased himself all the way down to the the you know the other side of the pitch, really. And that was a bit dubious. I thought we might have got a goal there, but I think Rashford, it went just behind him. But yeah, he wasn't at fault for the goals. It really was his defenders, but that's because there were forced errors because of the pressing we were doing was so good, so fantastic.
00:03:36
Matt
And I know we're going to talk about Ahmad, but wow, absolutely wow.
00:03:40
Global Sports Podcast Network
I mean, we can talk about him right now.
00:03:41
Matt
His pressing is brilliant.
00:03:42
Global Sports Podcast Network
We can talk about him right now, wouldn't we?
00:03:42
Matt
Let's do it. Let's do it. Wonderboy, let's talk about him. He's amazing. That's what I'm always buzzing about. Him and Xerxes, the two things I really want to talk about. Ahmad, yeah, just the work ethic, you know, he's putting this like wing back position and you're thinking,
00:03:58
Matt
Is this where he's meant to be? But to be fair, not, he could, you know, we were speaking to Dan last week and he's like, no, we should be, you know, playing where Rash really should be, you know, up up top or in the tens. I do agree with that, but for a player to be put in that position and put such a performance in, he's looking like a world beater.
00:04:14
Matt
And this is obviously consistency is key, but oh it was a joy. It was actually a joy to watch.
00:04:20
Global Sports Podcast Network
oh
00:04:21
Matt
um And you know what? It's it's been rare. we We say that about any United player. So even now I'm beaming because I'm like, I want to see him play again. It's exciting. So, yeah, phenomenal performance from him and, you know, easily the manner of match in my opinion.
00:04:35
Global Sports Podcast Network
Oh, for sure. You know, played a big part in that second goal, especially closing down and then finding that ball to Fernandez, who then played it across to Xerxes. And Xerxes made that finish look really easy, considering it was a slightly congestive penalty box.
00:04:46
Matt
Yeah, it was.
00:04:47
Global Sports Podcast Network
He made that finish look really easy, but that all came, as you said, because Ahmad pressured that defense, pressured that back line into a mistake, robbed the defender, and was just away.
00:04:48
Matt
Yeah, it was.
00:04:59
Global Sports Podcast Network
And there was no stopping him. and And this is what we've been sort of saying for the past few years. I'm i'm glad Ahmad's had you know the the the loan experience that he's had at these certain clubs. I'm glad that Ahmad has now come back into the squad. It's now considered and should be considered a first team regular now. He's locked that right hand side down and that just leaves Garnacher and Rashford to sort of fight over the left hand side or maybe for a spot up top which I can't imagine Garnacher taking the striking option. He's more of a winger so that really does call into question you know Garnacher and Rashford looking at this having to up their game which can only be a good thing
00:05:32
Matt
I think so, and I think he he's bringing the best out of other players, which is what you need as well. Obviously, you know, the goal score is a Rashford and Xerxes, but you got to look at Ahmad's role in that, you know, Bruno's role today in the assists. The other players making these players, we probably aren't having good seasons.
00:05:54
Matt
you know, up the game, like you said, score goals, a bit more positivity. You can't even see like Xerxes, the confidence is just completely flipped.
00:06:02
Global Sports Podcast Network
Mm.
00:06:03
Matt
He felt like he was part of the team today and people were treating him like he was part of the team. And some of his, I don't want to jump into Xerxes, but some of his passing, I'm like, this is why we got him.
00:06:14
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:06:14
Matt
that The the um second goal for Rashford, if Xerxes doesn't do that, no look past, damn it, that goal doesn't happen.
00:06:22
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:06:23
Matt
Beautiful little turn and pass, just instant.
00:06:24
Global Sports Podcast Network
So good.
00:06:26
Matt
And I was watching like the first half as well. He had another ball across the book box that I might have, I might have scuffed it, but it's a really smart ball because it went all the way across. It could have gone to, it I don't know who's in the middle.
00:06:36
Matt
It might have been Rashford or someone else, but no, he chose far side to to where I'm at was where he was on marks. I thought this guy's quite clever when he's on it. And we haven't seen that. And I mean, me and Dan were talking about it and he wanted to sell him and I wanted to put him on loan.
00:06:49
Matt
And, I'm eating my words a little bit. But again, it's all about consistency. But if Xerxes can keep doing that, then brilliant. Good for him. You know what? Brilliant. we need We need those kind of players. And Amurim said after the game, because we're saying who's going to be the striker. And he said, well, they've got different attributes with different things. And I think that's a great way of looking at both Xerxes and Hoylent.
00:07:12
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, Zirksi really worked better when he was dropped deeper into the into the into that line-up, almost almost on the same level of Fernando.
00:07:15
Matt
Yeah.
00:07:19
Global Sports Podcast Network
It's like, yeah, there's nothing quite like seeing a diagonal cross or a diagonal ball, a grass cutter going across, a base cutter across, just to the the opposite flank. Ah, beautiful pass.
00:07:30
Global Sports Podcast Network
I had to listen to it, by the way, on on radio because there was no TV coverage in the UK. What's up with that anyway? and But yeah, so watching back at it when I had a chance to, yeah, a lovely passes.
00:07:42
Global Sports Podcast Network
I thought as well, Maynu started brightly. I think though it sort of became the Amad show up to about half an hour. So he sort of you know recessed into it, but good to see him back

Maynu's Return and Substitutions Strategy

00:07:53
Global Sports Podcast Network
on the pitch as well.
00:07:54
Matt
Absolutely, yeah. I think so. and you know Unfortunately, he got that yellow card. um I think he might miss someone. He might miss a game. though I can't be that nervous. It's Martin. He's missing a game. But he got that yellow card. He was a little bit sloppy, but he's he's been out for so long. But again,
00:08:10
Matt
he's He's one of our best players, which is funny to say. He's so young. you know um Dan was saying no Future United captain. and I don't think you'll be wrong about that. so It was good to see him on the pitch, but he looked a bit rusty. I think Casamiro wasn't really helping him too much. I'm not going to dig out Casamiro.
00:08:30
Matt
I don't think he works that well with Maynu. I would have much preferred to see Ugarte have started and and remained on the pitch. With Maynu, I think he would have been better support for him.
00:08:41
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, yeah, we'll talk more about the second half and we'll see Agato up appear in the second half and we'll be back for the second part of this podcast after this message.
00:08:59

Global Sports Podcast Network
More of the same for that second half, wasn't it, really? In essence, you know, another goal from Rashford, another goal from Xerxes. This time, both of them set up by Anad, which was, yeah, I mean, amazing, amazing to watch. Just such fluid football. A couple of returnees, your favourite player, and he's on... a I'm on his books. Harry Maguire came back into the yeah line-up. ah Luke Shaw as well, ah coming on. Agate on for Fernandez, obviously, resting Fernandez. It's going to be a busy December, as it always is.
00:10:00
Matt
Yeah.
00:10:00
Global Sports Podcast Network
as So we've got to manage fitness wherever we can. I think by by that point, by the 65th minute or 64th minute where Xerxes scored, it was just a case of shutting up shop, giving some minutes there. And actually I actually have to say Mason Mount back on the pitch as well came on for a good 10 minutes there.
00:10:14
Global Sports Podcast Network
So yeah, good to build some fitness for some players and and rest some others now that the game was sort of done and dusted.
00:10:20
Matt
Yeah it was it was just really smart for my room and you know I was saying in our group chat it's so good to see a manager make subs early and at the right time and be thinking really smart about the subs and like I said got so many games coming and you could tell the game's done get some minutes in rest a few players got big game against Arsenal and it also just I think you know it's probably just good for the squad isn't it everyone's feeling like you know what I'm gonna get some minutes on the pitch here, you know, might not be starting. It might come on as a sub, but then the next game, like our room's been saying, he's going to have to flip it round. So I think it was really clever stuff. And he's always making the right subs for the right players. and The only thing I was worried was, you know, Maynu getting a red card potentially um in the second half. I did feel like he there was one chance that was a little bit rash and I just thought, just be a bit careful there. We don't want to lose him so quick. but
00:11:15
Matt
Apart from that, I was really happy. I mean, yeah, Harry Maguire comes on and I mean, you've fallen him up, so whatever. He can't mess that one up, I don't think. um But yeah, it was just good. And, you know, um it's amazing to think that Mazzrari, who's such a good kind of right back, is now the right of that free. You know, that that seems so crazy to me to think, why isn't he the wingback? But obviously we said, like, our man's just become this revelation. But then we've got Dallow,
00:11:42
Matt
as the left wing back. And that doesn't seem to work as as well. it's It's just such a, I'm sure Amr was going to find a way to figure out who's going to be that left wing back. And like you said, maybe he's gone at show and I'm out if they can both do that. Well, brilliant. But um yeah, I thought just really, really smart decisions from the manager. Everything's looking good to touch words, you know, but yeah, I was liking a lot of what I was saying. Positive day.

Season Outlook and Team Improvement

00:12:07
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, Wednesday night's going to be the big test, isn't it? I mean, we're we're getting ahead of ourselves here, but, you know, quarter past eight in the evening on Amazon Prime, Arsenal versus Manchester United.
00:12:10
Matt
definitely
00:12:17
Global Sports Podcast Network
I'm really going into the lion's den for tomorrow's episode, that's for sure. Tune in for that one, because that's a crossover. Arsenal have been asking for someone to come onto that podcast for nearly a week now. They've been very eager to have us on.
00:12:28
Global Sports Podcast Network
I couldn't explain why, but there you go. ah big big but Big match coming up there. So we shall see how that all plays out. But let's focus on the Everton game because look, big three points.
00:12:35
Matt
We'll definitely hear it.
00:12:39
Global Sports Podcast Network
We're four points away from that top four spot now. And ah yeah ah like we've said before, everyone else there seems to be dropping points here, there and everywhere, apart from Liverpool.
00:12:41
Matt
That's crazy.
00:12:47
Global Sports Podcast Network
There just seems to be this unstoppable
00:12:49
Matt
don't Don't remind me.
00:12:50
Global Sports Podcast Network
Unstoppable, undroppable points machine, but apart from them, everyone else seems to be dropping points here there and everywhere, keeping the rest of the league very close.
00:12:50
Matt
Don't remind me.
00:12:56
Matt
Yeah, yeah. It's bizarre. I mean, we had the worst start in how many years now we're four points off top four and potentially city.
00:13:07
Matt
It's a crazy season. um I'm going to avoid the whole Liverpool thing because that just makes me the depressed.
00:13:11
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah. Yeah.
00:13:12
Matt
But from a United point of view, the season's on. I'm not saying we're back or anything, but like there there is theres potential here to to have a good season still.
00:13:20
Global Sports Podcast Network
Don't do it.
00:13:26
Global Sports Podcast Network
No, no, hang on, hang on.
00:13:27
Matt
respect
00:13:27
Global Sports Podcast Network
Niall has said this. Every time there's a win, you know, we were back when we won against Fulham. We were back at some point in November, October as well. So just let's just be careful here. We're into December.
00:13:36
Matt
I, we're going to go unbeaten until the end of the season though.
00:13:37
Global Sports Podcast Network
Let's just be careful.
00:13:40
Global Sports Podcast Network
and Right, OK. Yeah, they're all draws from this point onwards.
00:13:44
Matt
Well, look, I'll take it.
00:13:45
Global Sports Podcast Network
That's the only caveat. ah look Well, look, we'll have Arsenal coming up as well, as we've already mentioned on Wednesday. We're only six points behind at this stage. United are ninth now with a plus four goal difference.
00:13:56
Global Sports Podcast Network
Things, you know, it's looking good.
00:13:57
Matt
Yeah.
00:13:58
Global Sports Podcast Network
I mean, Forest are up there in sixth place, Brighton are up there in fourth. And it's just a case of whether those two teams can really keep up their momentum. They've had strong starts at the season.
00:14:05
Matt
ye
00:14:06
Global Sports Podcast Network
But I mean, in terms of picking up points where we can, we've just got to focus on us. As we've said, we've come into December now. It is pretty much the busiest month of the year when it comes to Premier League football.
00:14:17
Matt
Yeah, and again, you're gonna hate me when I say this.
00:14:20
Global Sports Podcast Network
Don't do it.
00:14:21
Matt
We don't have many injuries.
00:14:23
Global Sports Podcast Network
Oh, why would you do that? Why?
00:14:26
Matt
I know I jinx all these things, but that is so important. And it's nice to be like, we've got a full squad. The manager's got a full squad. The mood's picking up. Yeah, I just, I can't believe what's going on. ah But I'm just, I'm just over the moon today. I'm sure like after Arsenal, I won't feel the same way, but It's just good, nice signs.
00:14:48
Matt
There's a change. I'm probably eating my words about many things I've probably said on this podcast and I'm happy about it.
00:14:54
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yes, it makes a change, doesn't it?
00:14:55
Matt
You know?
00:14:56
Global Sports Podcast Network
It does make a change.
00:14:56
Matt
Yeah. Yeah, for sure.
00:14:58
Global Sports Podcast Network
It makes a change to putting faith into the players, and then they sort of have bad games time after time. But this time, it's sort of a case of, I'm not sure about this player, and then one of them goes on and scores a brace.
00:15:10
Matt
Mm-hmm.
00:15:11
Global Sports Podcast Network
And I will say, with Xerxes at the start season, great to see him score his goal. I mean, that was his first goal since the first Premier League game this season, in the Premier League.
00:15:18
Matt
I know, yeah.
00:15:20
Global Sports Podcast Network
that's a long time to go without a goal. And I'm sure that would have been playing on his mind. So to get a brace for Rashford to get a brace as well, we played some really good football for 60 minutes of that match.
00:15:31
Global Sports Podcast Network
The first 30, we really needed to get the game grabbed by the scruff of its neck. And we've had a problem with that for not just this season, but also last in the season before that as well.
00:15:42
Matt
yeah
00:15:42
Global Sports Podcast Network
you know if If we don't start the Arsenal game properly, we could be facing 2-3 nil mountain by 30 minutes and if we only show up then, that's going to be a bit of an issue.
00:15:53
Matt
Oh definitely. like We need to come out of the blocks like we did in the second half of Bodeau Glint, how we did today as well. It needs to be relentless because Arsenal are not Everton in any shape or form.
00:16:05
Matt
They will punish us. And what Everton were doing, but I'll be unsuccessful in the first 30 minutes, you can definitely be saying Arsenal are going to get some shots on target there and really push us.
00:16:16
Matt
If not score, if we make those mistakes again. So it's on the team, but at least they can look at themselves and go, actually, we can play football here.
00:16:23
Global Sports Podcast Network
Hmm.
00:16:23
Matt
We just need to tighten up and have the right mentality. So bring it on.
00:16:28
Global Sports Podcast Network
Bring it on, says Matt. Well, bring it on for part three, where we'll have a look at the briefest of briefest moments against the match against Bodo Glimt. We'll be back after this.
00:16:46
Matt

And of course, in midweek then on the Thursday, we faced Bodo Glimt at 1-3-2. That puts us now on nine points in the Europa League, 12th place in the leagues. We are now just a point off of those important ah top eight places.

Bodo Glimt Game Recap

00:17:36
Global Sports Podcast Network
We're into those playoff places now. So it's a case of, you know, it's almost there where we're almost back in touching distance, even with that slightly rocky start still unbeaten in the Europa League. Matt, what did you make of the Bodo Glimt game?
00:17:50
Matt
a tale or two halves, which has been a familiar story with this United team for a long time. um You know, fair play to Bodo Glimt. Those goals were crackers, you know, I'll be fair. But lastly, it got absolutely done for, I think the second one, and that's just, it is what it is. So fair play to them, but we were not good. That was the that was the truth of it. The midfield was was was awful in that first half, you know? But then second half, hello, who's this team?
00:18:18
Matt
i know and You come with the man, you know, come with the outcome of the man and the Hoyland, two goals like out on nothing. Well, especially the, well, the first one was out on nothing. And you go, okay, this is all positive.
00:18:32
Matt
And you know, Dan would say before, no, the Hoyland's got to go.
00:18:34
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:18:36
Matt
And i to be fair, I said a lot of things that I forgot to eat my words for, but very happy with that. And he looked strong, you know, the team just, The mentality was there, and I think we've kind of seen that post the first goal of Everton. That switched on again. It's just how do you capture the essence for a full 90 minutes? Before the Everton game today, actually, I was like, I just want to see a full 90 where we just dominate and we're just solid. Because I can't even think to a game when that's happened. Even in like a league cup draw against a lower team, I don't think we've ever felt like we were comfortable.
00:19:10
Matt
So yeah, first half terrible, second half, well deserved. We dominated. And I genuinely felt like they wouldn't score in that second half, whereas we would score in.
00:19:18
Global Sports Podcast Network
yeah i have to say as well the the touch from heiland and the finish
00:19:20
Matt
Yeah.
00:19:26
Matt
Mm-hmm.
00:19:27
Global Sports Podcast Network
oh come on that's ridiculous that's that's from someone who is full of confidence and that's what we need we need our attackers who are confident in themselves and i've said this before and possibly last week that you have to have attackers there's nothing wrong with a selfish attacker as long as they're selfish in the right moment and at that moment for Heuland to control it like he did to then finish it like he did so well
00:19:29
Matt
Brilliant.
00:19:52
Global Sports Podcast Network
That's in those moments, you think, he only had one option. He only had one thing on his mind. He was shooting.
00:19:56
Matt
Yeah.
00:19:57
Global Sports Podcast Network
As soon as that ball was coming in, he, you, one touch, two touch. This is, I'm shooting here. That's what you need. You need that confidence in your attackers.
00:20:05
Matt
Yeah, definitely. it's It's a sign of a potentially great striker. I'm sorry, that those kind of goals where you're just like, How did you do that? And that instinctive nature, like you're saying there, to should just come up with something, out of nothing, and it works. And we've seen that plenty of times, you know, he hasn't scored that many, but that's, I think, service. But the amount he's created himself, unbelievable. And again, another great goal, and the second goal, you know, created as well, right positioning.
00:20:32
Matt
It's all very positive. You just need to feed him. That's what I keep thinking. Just feed this player, and let's see how good he can get. And I think Amurim, after that game, has said himself, he creates things out of nothing. like he's he's He's doing things. he's making He's scoring hard goals. So really, the team needs to be thinking, how can we make him score the easy ones?
00:20:53
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, but ah not not too much, because like we've seen with other teams, if you rely on one person to try and score the easy goals you set up, once a team finds a way to stop you getting those easy chances, you start to struggle.
00:20:59
Matt
Sure.
00:21:05
Matt
Right, yeah.
00:21:06
Global Sports Podcast Network
So it's not a bad thing at all that Hoyland's able to just pick out these moments of magic, because you do need those sometimes. you know Sometimes a game is decided like like on those moments, those split seconds decisions.
00:21:16
Global Sports Podcast Network
And for Hoyland to just say, ah, this is, I'm taking this on, this is me.
00:21:21
Matt
It's my time.
00:21:22
Global Sports Podcast Network
It's my turn. This is my turn now. I thought, as well, Maserawi, again, we seem to mention every single time we're here.
00:21:27
Matt
Fantastic.
00:21:30
Global Sports Podcast Network
I mean, Amorim has mentioned that he feels he's so talented that he could play anywhere on the pitch. He's so good on the ball. He's so intelligent, forward-thinking, that he could play anywhere, not just in defense, not just on the wing, but maybe even just like 10 hard-tried as a number eight.
00:21:47
Global Sports Podcast Network
you know it you know i There's going to be a point here where I have to ask, is there anything like that that man cannot do? Is there anything that's around we just cannot do? Just seemingly know at the moment you can do anything he likes.
00:22:00
Matt
Yeah, it's just ridiculous and what we paid for him. And I think all of us were kind of like, oh, he plays for by any It must be all right. Probably none of us really watched him or paid attention. I'm thinking, is he one of the best in the world that we somehow snagged potentially? Because you're right, he can do anything. And it's funny that you say you could probably play in that position that Tenog put him in. I'm starting to think a lot of the things Tenog tried, failed. But Amroom's managing to kind of make it work. Because I'm not seeing things that are too craziness in some ways in terms of tactics and how they're playing.
00:22:37
Matt
You know, the the china triangles and, you know, play out from the back, but it's working and it feels like the players get it. Like something's clicking more for them. I don't know if it's almost like the groundwork has been laid and the pennies kind of dropped on Damarim, but he seems very good at explaining things, even in his press conferences. You know, you probably couldn't understand what the tactics were from Tenog if he told you, bless him. But with Amarim, I'm like, oh, I'm learning things here. That makes sense. That makes sense.
00:23:05
Matt
So you can kind of see it. And he's always, he said them, I think before the, was it the Everton game or whatever? He said, you know, the you can't make a player watch 11, 12 minute video. You know what I mean?
00:23:15
Matt
That's what I used to do as a player and they just switch off.
00:23:18
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:23:18
Matt
So I think it's great that we've got someone maybe on the level, the players is really getting how to make them think, understand and work. So very positive, very happy about that.
00:23:29
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah. And it's refreshing as well to have a manager who was playing football, you know, less than a decade ago. I think that really that really changes the ideology of how, you know, a manager approaches modern football, because there are so many different ways you can approach football. You can approach it stats-based. You can approach it as saying, we're going to try 4-4-2, why not? you know It's the way forward. You can try playing out from the back or possession-based or counter-attack or root one, whatever you want to do. But I think this way from Amorim is, well, he he played this. you know There's systems he's played under less than 10 years ago. And it's great to see someone who's part of that modern football. yeah mean Still, the modern football is 2010s. You'd still say that.
00:24:11
Global Sports Podcast Network
So to have a player like that coming through and are now turned into a manager, you get insights from an ex-player.

Modern Football Tactics and Rivalries

00:24:17
Global Sports Podcast Network
And I think it's good that an ex-player becomes a manager, comes in with the respect, but also understands the limitations of what players can actually take on board at any one time.
00:24:26
Matt
Yeah, definitely.
00:24:28
Global Sports Podcast Network
And I think that that goes a long way because you know someone like Pep or Jose, of course they were ex-players, of course they were, but they're sort of a different mold now. Amaryb has come in, you say, 10, 15 years later, 20 years later even, and has a new, you know, a fresh idea on things.
00:24:36
Matt
move.
00:24:43
Global Sports Podcast Network
There's nothing wrong with that. And it just seems right now, as you said, things are clicking here. and all eyes will be on the Arsenal game and seeing what happens there. I think win or loss, it's going to be valuable experience for Amorim, whatever happens. But I mean, surely we've got to go for the win. We have to go for the win against Arsenal. I can't bear to lose against them, especially if I'm going on the crossover tomorrow.
00:25:05
Matt
Well, I'm i'm hoping you you don't hold back tomorrow, mate.
00:25:09
Global Sports Podcast Network
Well, let's see. i Let's see.
00:25:10
Matt
and they're on They're on the list of most hated teams. I know United fans who were very happy that City won last year because they'd rather see City win because they're cheats.
00:25:23
Matt
allegly um then see Arsenal win the league again. So, you know, there's probably going to be a lot of United fans out there with on yeah with with you against them. So don't let off them.
00:25:34
Matt
They're bottlers, mate.
00:25:35
Global Sports Podcast Network
and ah
00:25:35
Matt
They're bottlers. And like you know what? Just tell them we're going to batter them.
00:25:40
Global Sports Podcast Network
Oh my word.
00:25:43
Matt
So I'm getting heated for you, am I?
00:25:43
Global Sports Podcast Network
i think Yeah, you are. I've got to take that energy with me tomorrow.
00:25:49
Matt
Yeah, absolutely.
00:25:49
Global Sports Podcast Network
hopefully Hopefully you at home will join me tomorrow as well. Be on my side. Give me the roar that I need. Matt, so great to share a microphone with you. Great to have this episode with you.
00:25:57
Matt
Absolutely, mate. It's been really good. Thank you.
00:26:00
Global Sports Podcast Network
Well, on that note then, we'll see you tomorrow for the crossover. So don't be don't be alarmed if you hear a different voice because Arsenal are hosting. I know it happens, but there we go. But we'll see you tomorrow. Matt, it's been a pleasure for you at home as well. Take care of yourselves. We'll see you tomorrow for a crossover.
