sports podcast network Hello and welcome back to the Daily Ipswich brought to you by the Global Sports Podcast Network and it's not just the Daily Ipswich today, it is crossover. It's crossover Friday this week and we're looking ahead to the big game The sun Super Sunday half-past four at Portland Road, Ipswich Town against Manchester United. I'm in the blue corner today, and then in the red corner, I'm joined by Oliver and Niall from Daily Manchester United. How are you both doing, lads? Doing well, doing well. Good to hear from you. Yeah, delighted. Delighted to be on. Looking forward to it. Yeah, I'm excited. Very excited.
00:00:45
Speaker
It should be a very good episode. This, I think of all the various storylines coming into it, most notably, of course, the new man in the dugout for the first time for United. So I'll ask you guys a bit about that. And then obviously I'll let you come back and return the favor before we have a bit of a bit of a prediction. So I think it's a wrap to show up. But like I say, we'll go straight in. And the biggest talking point, obviously, you've got a new man in the dugout.
00:01:09
Speaker
his first game in charge is going to be a fairly big shift in terms of style of play, I imagine. So I'll ask you first, Niall, are we expecting him to go straight in with the sort of 3-4-3 rude memory? Or do you reckon he'll stick to something a bit more close to home for the first game? I think he's going to go straight in and try and get is his philosophy embedded into these players as as quickly as possible. And and we'll see a 3-4-3.
00:01:35
Speaker
um Yeah, the the magic of a new manager has kind of taken over me over the past couple of days. I'm really looking forward to seeing it at the weekend, but I'm quite aware that that dream could be crushed as well at the weekend. So we'll see how we go. But yeah, i've I've said it multiple times over the past couple of weeks where We said similar things about Tinhag when he came in about this being this ah very successful manager in in a different league and building a side and being successful in Europe and then you know expecting big things when we come to United. So hopefully this time is different and and I sense that it is different.
00:02:11
Speaker
I feel like you won't be kind of letting the players away with as much as as what was going on under Tinhag and under different various managers. And and I am excited about our profile of players with that system. So, yeah, all all positive thoughts for once from a United perspective, going into the weekend. Yeah, it must be a nice feeling for you guys. You've not had that sort of positivity cut into games very often in the last decade or so. already turulent Yeah. So what do you think, Ollie, then?
00:02:39
Speaker
how you Do you think there's been enough time to sort of prepare for the such a big style change of play or do you think there's going to be some players that may struggle where it could be a bit of a benefit for us? It's going to take time, isn't it? It's all pretty new. And if we are going for a different style of play, then it's going to take a long time for.
00:02:57
Speaker
to embed into these players. It's going to take months. We've got a few injury, well, past injuries that are coming back on the left side. We've got molasses coming back and Shaw, which is weird. They've come back at exactly the same time. It's very odd than what these guys have been up to, but it's, it's good. It's good reinforcement. So, so maybe we'll, you probably will go in with this style um and just give it a test run. Cause what we got to lose really is we're sitting 13 for the minute. So just go in there, get this physical philosophy.
00:03:24
Speaker
embedded and hopefully it's going to come to fruition. Fingers crossed. Yeah, we'll see how it goes out. but We saw, of it we've sort of been previewing it ourselves, been leading up to this where we see, we saw, there's been a bit of a debate between our guys is that some of us were a bit negative, ah where we're thinking of new manager bounce, here we go, he's going to come in, he's want to set the ground run and sort of team down the bottom of the table. And then where i I had that view, but I sort of changed my mind because of the style of play, really. And I'll ask you, Niall, sort of, I want to talk about Bruno Fernandez, because he's had a bit of a resurgence since Van Nistreoy was in the interim. But he stands out for me as the player whose role doesn't really suit a 3-4-3 system, because he's not in the three, and he's not really a two-in-midfield sort of player, I don't think, anyway. Not that I watch Man United every week. so
00:04:19
Speaker
Where do you sort of think he slots in? Because he is the key man, really, isn't he? Yeah, it's it's an interesting one. We've spoken a lot about that kind of front three and the two different kind of shapes you can go with. So obviously, you have the lone striker, but then you'll have two in behind. And whether those two play quite narrow or whether they're quite wide, I think it's it's a different profile of player that will fit into either of them. So you could imagine maybe a Rashford and an Ahmad in behind a Hoyland or ah mount a mountain of Bruno in behind, which are two different types of profile players. So I think he will play in that position. I'm just interested to see how it's going to work. And I think it'll be, if he is going to play, we're going to have to rely heavily on on the wing backs in those situations to get quite high and provide that with because
00:05:02
Speaker
He likes to drop in. He'll probably drop in beside the two at times and try and look for those long diagonals and balls in behind as well. So it's going to take a bit of but of time to adapt, I think. i'm I'm quite happy though that there's a manager coming in with this type of structure because over the past couple of years, it's been very difficult. Ollie, I think we've been discussing it a lot, but very hard to put your finger on a style of play and and a structure that United have. And Bruno is a fabulous player and very talented, but he just kind of pops up everywhere around the pitch and starts spraying 50, 60 yard passes when maybe it's not what you need at the time. So and he'll have to he'll have to adapt to that new structures. And and i'm I'm looking forward to seeing how he fits into it. But yeah, great point. I mean,
00:05:46
Speaker
He didn't start the season too well in terms of stats and was getting into a lot of good positions, but just couldn't seem to finish it off. And yeah, he's he's popped up with a few goals and over the past couple of weeks from United and also from a Portugal point of view. So, yeah, let's see how he fits in at the weekend. So I something think that's sort of the key, man, I think in attack really well. The other thing I sort of looked at from the optimistic Ipswich point of view is obviously the quite important part of a three, four, three formation is having your three solid centre backs, whereas it's not the strongest position really for you United, is it Oli? What do you think three's gonna be? Yeah, we've been ropey at the back. It's ah there been times where it's been quite questionable, like the players form. No one's really stood out. Martinez, he's's every time he's played each season, he's he looked amazing, but he's looked rocky this season. But I think it's just it's just the transition of everything, isn't it? It's just a different style of play.
00:06:44
Speaker
Maybe he's just not feeling that confident at the moment, but yeah, I think he'll come good. Delict was a bit ropey as well as a few games where he just looked terrible. He just looked weak and it looked like, is this guy decent silent or not? But I think it's just getting used everyone getting used to each other because we have, we've constantly changed at the back and that's been our problem. No one's got used to playing with each other. It's not like Liverpool. We're playing with the same players each week.
00:07:07
Speaker
but we're constantly changing through injuries. Like our defense, our defense, just, there's always someone out every other week. It was someone that was out injured and it just cost us dearly every game. So hopefully we'll just get in that bit of structure and getting used to playing with each other. Okay. So then what about the sort of wingback roles then as the other thing? Cause I was going to say you mentioned Molassia and Shaw coming back. I don't know if that's yeah fit and ready to start for this game. Cause again, fullback's an area you're fairly light. that's it ah Is it likely to see wingers sort of drop into that role, maybe as as an option. And then, especially these sort of games, like you say, expecting this and everything next week that teams down the bottom that you probably are expected to go and get results in. Do you reckon it'll be that sort of heavy attacking lineup or will we just
00:07:52
Speaker
or you just force those sort of two only two fit fullbacks you've got into the two positions? I think bringing back in, if they're ready to play, man, I want to see Molassia playing again. It's because I'm obviously sure he's like injury prone as well. So it'd be good to see him get some games, let him play 90 minutes as well and see if he is up to the task. Because obviously it is. It's a fullbacks one of the most difficult positions. You got to be super athletic and is he going to be able to but and I don't know, meet the demands of Amorim when he comes in, so don't I want to see him play. I want to see him play in full games. Do you feel the same now?
00:08:29
Speaker
Yeah, it's I got a bit carried away there with a clip that was posted by United a couple of days ago of their their training session, and it was interesting to see the players that he had playing in those positions. Obviously, some of them are away on international duty, but he had Antony right wing back, and he had Melasia left wing back, which Shaw left of the back three. So yeah, I don't really know what their fitness is like, but I'm assuming Mizrahi will probably come back and play in maybe the left wing back role.
00:08:56
Speaker
he's been he's been probably our best player of this season yeah and been brilliant says which says an awful lot and then you know Badallo is suited to the right wing back as well but If you want to go for more attack and you could drop wingers back in there, you know, if you are going against a team that are in the and in the bottom half of the the table, like United, you can probably put an arm out on the right wing and really go for it. But yeah, i'm a I think there's a lot of flexibility in in the people you can put in those roles. So I'm interested to see what he'll do with with the players he has in his first game.
00:09:30
Speaker
Yeah, I think it's interesting to see because you're at the point now really where you have to start climbing the table sooner rather than later after you have to start. mean um yeah name And this story came in and steady the ship that say first two games for Amory and the team in 17th and the team in 16th for objectively looking at the table that they sort of game you'd like to think you come in and get six points on the board and do that. Obviously, I hope he doesn't.
00:09:54
Speaker
It's huge. You've got to get the ground running f straight away. There's going to be a lot of pressure on him. It's a completely different league as well. It's all well and good, saying how good he's been in Portugal, but a different pace game. It's a different it's different game of football now. Yeah, exactly. I think the same thing was... I feel like from an outside look at it, I do get a bit of a different feeling about Amorim, but then I'm pretty sure I probably probably he would have sat here and told you the same thing about Tenhar a couple of years ago. and I think that's the horrible thing about it. He looks the part, which is half the battle. And you're like, wow, he'll look great on the touchline, but that's not going to win you matches. So we'll see. I think he just like it seems like he's liked. It seems like they're all very excited about him coming in. So I'm guessing we've got those portr Portuguese contingent there, isn't there? So going to know him really well. And i think I think Bruno knew he was coming in. I've got a feeling he knew it. And he probably thought, right, he's going to make me the main man again. and its
00:10:48
Speaker
he's going to reinvigorate him to get to the standards that he was before. So hopefully it's all going to work out man, really. I'm feeling positive about it. He seems more charismatic than Tenhag. I think that was one of his downfalls as well, like his interviews and he just, I don't know, he was just something like lacking with Tenhag when he used to do his interviews. So hopefully this guy's going to come in, stamp his old authority down and and I don't know, just get this team back to where we need to be. Yeah, he seemed to struggle with the media, didn't he, Tenhag? Very. He said the wrong things all the time. it was Wasn't good. Wasn't good at all. Didn't feel you were confident. No, yeah. He seemed to... He used to moan about them a lot, didn't he? They're sort of... You do a role like somewhere, like Man United, you're going to have the press on your back a lot of the time, particularly when you're not performing. And he seemed to always not like that part of the job, whereas you almost got to embrace it in a way, don't you? Just have a laugh and a joke of him, like sort of Guardiola and Klopp do. That's top levels. Yeah, he lacked charisma, I think, and it wasn't good. Good for him.
00:11:47
Speaker
Well, say we'll see how it goes. but say it's quite ah keep so I'll keep saying now, obviously, I'm trying to take the bias out of it. Well, that's the question as well. So as I say, go come to Portland Road and expect a result. But if we do, if we get the result the other way around. There'll only be four points behind you. If you told us that to start the season, it'll only be a few points off Miami United. We'll be doing really well.
00:12:05
Speaker
He's crazy how far down the table we are. I keep forgetting. It's just like, wow, we're coming up Christmas now as well. So it's going to be a huge December. Got an absolute barrage of games through that time. So yeah, yeah at least really it the league is so weird this year though. Like everyone's dropping points. Like yeah even United are still in with the top five, top six hopes, what you're like, we should be well, I decided at this stage, but yeah, a couple of victories, not in forest in the top four, are they? Yeah, it's, it's a very compact table apart from Liverpool.
00:12:32
Speaker
It is. It's kind of like it was a two horse race we've seen in Liverpool. And now it's, that was kind of a one horse race now. Liverpool the only one with any sort of, what's it called? sensitity was a play so It's wild. It's gone crazy. Yeah, it's all tightly packed. And so we were, we were sitting here all depressed a couple of weeks ago down and we didn't get that ruin at Leicester for, oh, we're already five points out, so five points off the relegation zone. You know, like if we'd won that and it cut the gap right down, like at least we didn't lose. It would have been eight points horrible. And then,
00:13:00
Speaker
Fast forward two more games. We're outside the bottom for three again and we have a chance to overtake Leicester this weekend if we can get a result and Chelsea beat them. says So that's all twisted and turning but we keep saying this. Yeah exactly. I keep saying that there seems to be some similarities between 10 Hagen-ammering in terms of the feeling and around the outsides but I'm just hoping that it goes like 10 hogs first away game. Was that 4-0 at Brentford? Yeah, we got battered, didn't we? Same sort of game that really, promoted team down the bottom of the table we were expecting something from. So I hope it goes a similar way. See, teams just show up when they play us. It's their big game, isn't it? It's their biggest game of the season when they play us. It's like beating Man United, they all seem to really show up and then they'll get beat by a lesser team the week after. Yeah, it'll be interesting, won't it?

We are back for the second part of today's crossover, looking ahead to the half past four kickoff on Sunday, Ipswich Town against Manchester United. So lads, I've thrown a fair few questions at you in that first part there. Obviously, some big talking points to go into. So it's only fair I let you sort of come back to me now that we how you want to quiz me you and on anything from the Ipswich side of things going into Sunday.
00:14:53
Speaker
Yeah, um I have a bit of a... I suppose I was basically a spectator at your big win there a couple of weeks ago at at Spurs. I was at the match. I mean, talk to me about the emotions from that. We were walking back to the tube and all I could hear was Liam de Lapo, Léole, ringing at my ears for about four hours after it. like so I mean, what an unbelievable victory. I'm concerned going in that user on a high coming into this United game, giant killers and all that. like so yeah Talk to me about the emotions after that game, I suppose. Oh, it's it's unbelievable. so it Obviously, the fur it's been 22 years in the making.
00:15:33
Speaker
we do We just kept sort of getting so close and not holding over the line, especially sort of literally the week before leading one nil until what was it? The 95th minute or something when Jordan I who equalized that coming so close. Every week you didn't get it and you watching other teams win then became so much more important. You go and get it eventually. And it's just fantastic to finally get over the line because we're all sitting there sort of biting our nails.
00:16:01
Speaker
getting worried when it went to 2-1 because we'd seen what happened at Brentford when we were 2-0 up literally two weeks before that and we went on to lose. yeah And then obviously, like I said, the Leicester game the week before, ah that sort of inevitable sense of equaliser was coming when it went to 2-1. But to get over the line and in such a big game as well really that we were literally saying after that Leicester game on our pod, we we sat there and go, well, that's it. We had we had that run of four games. We said,
00:16:30
Speaker
these wins now, as I we look at our next few games, if we could hit December and I'll get a win on the board unless we go and shot somebody. And that's exactly what we did. There's more of a relief just to getting that first word then, just to sort of just breathe a little bit easier. Yeah, I think it became more like that as the weeks went on, like you knew it was going to be an incredible feeling when it came, but when it when it was, especially with walls having one on the Saturday to then be like, knowing that if we didn't win that game that we'd go into the third international break, being the only team to not get a win on the board. And teams gained points again that it felt like it but suddenly became a must win, whereas beforehand it would have been a bit more of a free hit. But it's a fantastic feeling as well. Like I said, 22 years in the make. It's the first time in my lifetime I've won a Premier League game. that is they see i was I was born two months after we were relegated. so oh Really? Yeah. So mean the first time harve it the first time I've experienced it in my life, so the other lads have
00:17:29
Speaker
compare it back to the last season and how good it felt before is first time for me so it's brilliant really and just really annoying there was an innocent international break straight after it because we really want once you get that first we keep saying we'll get the first one and we might go on a run and kick on and got the first one and we've had two weeks off. That's it. It can be detrimental kind of really an international break when you're the mood's good then all the players sort of separate and then it's kind of like like you say you lose momentum That's the only scary thing. It's good if you're losing at the time, I guess. Have a little breather, but you don't want it. The last one couldn't have been more perfectly timed. but It was just after we went to West Ham and got actually trounced in the most embarrassing performance of the season. Again, let's say West Ham who haven't looked good in a single game all season put four past us.
00:18:14
Speaker
That was the perfect time for international break that you just forget about that. Forget about football for a week or so. Watch some glorified friendlies and come back and then... People talking about football fans are just brilliant. It's awful going into that international break on a loss because the morale's so low and then if you win, it's like, we were going to go on a run.
00:18:38
Speaker
can be delusional sometimes. When you can't lose either way, like it's just, but every way you frame it in your head, you're actually going to be funny. Yeah. What about this, this lame lap fell? I mean, you're probably going to get linked to you and I didn't know after his goal, but what a star. good season like I mean, incredible player. o Yeah. I don't, I mean, I don't think we really knew how good he was going to be really, but it sort of picked him up, but it was one of them that,
00:19:06
Speaker
ah yeah It has been the recruitment strategy, particularly since our new owners came in three or four years ago now that the the idea has been recruit from the English Academy system and sort of whether that's someone who's been loaned out and then or left permanently and then come back through like it's not we know we don't really go and recruit from abroad as sort of take players from the league below or it's going to get these talented young players in and I say, Davis wasn't getting the looking at leads, but he's impressed on loan, right? We'll go and we'll go and give him a go and So first wasn't getting much, he wasn't getting your game time at Leicester. So we took him on loan, then signed him permanently when that worked out. So he'd come in through a city and it was obvious they wanted to move him on like they usually do with a flog or their attackers or their academy talents to sort of balance the books. and didn't know Because he hadn't had that much experience at the senior level, really, apart from a few loans. The only time i'd so he went to Stoke for a little while, I went to uni up around there and
00:20:04
Speaker
didn't really, so I watched him a couple of times when he was at Stoke and didn't really take anything off him. So, yeah, that's all I really had to go on. Like how they get, how well they're going to do. You just never know if they can take that, go to the next level. but Obviously he hasn't stepped up, hasn't he? He's looked incredible. Yeah, pretty he took it straight away, really, isn't he? I think that, like I said, we weren't really sure because we hadn't seen anything overly impressive, but ah would know enough about the way we do our transfers, that we don't have many that go wrong. There's, there's some good data involved, I assume, the way they like to do it and get the right players in. And when it really started to click for us, and we were sort of chatting about it is, when we realized that pretty much every city fan that was reacting to the transfer was saying, why have we got rid of him, that we should have kept him, he could have been good, he could have been good backup, especially without Juarez looking like he's gonna leave. And that's when we kind of thought that
00:21:01
Speaker
a club who never usually promotes their talents unless they are top and top top top like sort of Foden, Lewis, people like that that can go straight into the team that good and play that if their fans are thinking he's on he was on that level that he could have gone straight in the team and started working his way in we then thought we might be on to a winner and then been unbelievable that how he's come in just how physical he is as well that we didn't expect really that he's like he's just bullies like he went up against Romero and Dragison in that Spurs game, two very aggressive centre-halves. And he'd just go back to him and more will game, they couldn't handle him. He's been absolutely brilliant. I can't say enough about him, really. Yeah, getting made for that call-up soon, international call-ups. Nah, he's going to go for Ireland. He's definitely going to go, nah, he's not, but I hope he does. I mean, I i don't know. I feel like he's holding out for that England. When I was tapping on my back breath as well,
00:21:57
Speaker
Who's actually coming in terms of strikers for England? Like once you go past the Watkins, Salanke, it's the Lappan. There's no one even in the German. As a number nine, there's no one else. like So unfortunately, I think he's going to probably get a bit of game time. Maybe not under Tuchel though. Tuchel might not bother taking a risk on him because Tuchel's one objectivist to win the big one for you. yeah I don't know. We'll see. Maybe and be our dentist from Sweden can come in and bring him into the Irish team.
00:22:25
Speaker
Yeah, I think yeah we want to see it at some point. I think we're obviously clamoring for Davis as well, because England seem to like calling up no left backs at all rather than take a punt on him. In the end, he was good against Spurs. He actually played quite well in the game he played, to be fair. But even then, like he hadn't had the best start to the season. He was fantastic when they played Arsenal and he kept Safa quiet. But I've seen a lot of Newcastle fans complaining about his performances up to that point. whereas very good Davis had been superb. and We're clamorous. We haven't had an England call-up since Richard Wright in 2000, so we've got a couple of plans. We've got a bridge now. Geez. We've got a really good time. Time overdue. Yeah, exactly.
00:23:06
Speaker
fair. Yeah, it's funny, they're just touching on the City Academy stuff, Dilap plays a bit like a young Holland in a way where he's extremely physical. and He's absolutely massive, and then he has a good left foot as well. And then like City leave leaving their talents, these English players, like Dilap, you have so not Foden Palmer, obviously, and then that Hartwood Bellis fellow as well, playing for Southampton.
00:23:31
Speaker
you know obviously made his english England debut, scored scored in his debut, but like yeah they seem to get rid of lots of their good kind of young anatomy players, but I think the point that you mentioned around balancing the books and that clean profit is probably probably a big part of it considering all the money they have spent in the past.
00:23:51
Speaker
Yeah, so there seems to be their model, and not that I'm complaining, because we've picked up an unbelievable challenge, breaking records every week when he scores. I'd say he's got more more goals at this age than people than any other English st striker. I'm pretty sure that's that that was the start after the Spurs game.
00:24:06
Speaker
I think even the likes of Rooney and Shearer only had five at at his age in the Premier League and he's got six already. Yeah, it's incredible. good numbers yeah He just needs to get his long throw-ins now like his dad and it'd be fine. It's one thing he lacks really, he ah he's brilliant on the ball. is like He's an unbelievable player. He probably could do that because the amount of times he makes chances, he just picks a ball up on the halfway line, beats four players and so his goal against Fulham is that. He's done the same thing against Brighton a week later and hit the post and he's got that in the locker. He can also bully centre backs out of the way, brilliant at finishing and he's got an unbelievable
00:24:48
Speaker
If he says injury three, he's going to have a fantastic career ahead of him. And we've just got to hope it's at Ipswich for as long as possible because we get relegated. You can guarantee he's the first name out the door. Hard to keep hold of him anyway. If you guys do stay up, there's going to be a lot of interest in there. so Yeah, especially if you What are you feeling? Yeah, well, we'll see. We'll have to see how the season goes really. we it's It's fairly essential, I think, that we need to stay up or The worry is the whole project sort of falls apart then because McKenna will be a Premier League manager next season unless we give him stupid amounts of money in the championship because he he's too good to drop back down really. Yeah. Like I said, the likes of Dilap will go. Dave, he's just signed a new contract, so we'd get a good money for him. But can he it'd get poached, wouldn't he? We've got a lot of talent there that would get stolen. It feels like the whole project, you don't want the project to be years of work to come up and go back down at one year and then
00:25:48
Speaker
repeat the process where you then sit in a championship for 15 years and you don't want to won a done season as fun as it would be, especially getting some bigger results like going to Spurs and winning. And if we say if we can get one this weekend, but you you'd get their memories, but you don't, you do you you want to stay up and then try and build further and establish yourself like some of the other teams have, like Brentford, for example, and come up out of the blue and know where they are now. That's the that's that's the ultimate goal because so the what that's the worry really. that All we got to do is say week week by week, we keep saying, even if it's only a point like it is at the moment, and if we, if every week we can come out and go, we're not at the bottom three, slowly, those fixes are going to tick by until eventually we're right at the end of the year and we're hanging on there by a thread. Just survival's key at the moment, isn't it? good plan Yeah. Yeah.
00:26:37
Speaker
That's exciting. Should we go for results, what we think it's going to be on Sunday? Yeah, yeah for everyone I think that would be a good way to do it, but we better chuck in a word from one of our sponsors first. Alright and we are back for the final part of today's crossover Friday but with me and the lads from Daily Man United. So we'll go a bit some predictions based stuff and before I get into your scores lads, I'm going to ask you a tough question because as we mentioned a few times now, there's a new manager coming in whose system you've not seen before.
00:27:32
Speaker
and Give me a rough estimate of the sort of predicted lineup in this new set up because I'm a bit stumped. I think it's going to play. And obviously, you know, man, you're not better than I do. OK, let's go. We'll give it a go then. OK, we'll go to Nana back three. I am going to go for it's very hard to know about the fitness of the two left backs, actually. I'm going to go for.
00:27:57
Speaker
Delict, Delict, Jonny Evans and Martinez back three, Mazzraoui and Dallo wing backs, Menou, Casamiro in midfield, Mount, Bruno and Hoyland. Yeah, pretty similar. I'll probably put Ugar there. I think Ugar's going to play.
00:28:19
Speaker
over Maino, maybe still question the fitness of Maino at the moment, maybe not start him. But yeah, pretty much the same. I'd say you got there. Huyland's going to play, definitely. But yeah, pretty much the same, really, just that you got change. You think Rashford or Ahmad's going to play? Or Garnaccio? I think he's going to start Rashford. I got a feeling. And where? I think on the on the right. He's going to play on the right. Okay. With Bruno. Rashford and Bruno behind Huyland. Okay. Is Garnaccio going to play? No.
00:28:49
Speaker
Oh, I don't know. It's so tricky, isn't it? I put a lot of midfielders in mind, that sort of thing. Because this new system, it's hard to know where who's going to go web. I think that's a tough question when you've not seen it before. It's a benefit that you can go either way with it really, because like you say, you could start with Bruno and Mountain in there and then if we have the better of the first half, he might well then change it up, put Rashford and Garnapcho on and attack the wings of a game that we're interested to see really. Because we set up with our 4-2-3-1 sort of set up that we normally do. Although we sort of did a hybrid five back against Spurs to get the results of with Ben Johnson playing right mid when we had the ball and slotting it right back when we didn't or when we were defending. so
00:29:35
Speaker
I'll be intrigued to see if we go for that again, especially with being a similar sort of game, really, than Spurs. I'd say another sort of big six team. Who do you expect to be on top of? We're only a top 12 team. big on yeah With a top out of 13. We're in the top 13. That's the funny thing about it. If you look at the table objectively and take the names away, you'd be thinking 13th at home is the sort of game we need to be trying to we need to be yeah away that stay up but
00:30:06
Speaker
if ten i would study here i would be very concerned i would yeah Hopefully we're going to get that boost, that boost. new matter Like you say, new manager boost. Everyone's got to fight for their place now, haven't they really? They've got to impress the manager. So that'll last for a few weeks and then we'll see how it goes. but I'm excited, Matt. i mean I am really excited. I want to see what he's going to do this guy. It's been, it's been it's been a painful like couple of years really on and off with 10 hag. I didn't hate the guy at all. I actually, I thought he was just really lucky. Just what he, what he tried to implement just didn't work with the players that he had. And he had so much how unfortunate it was with injuries all the time. Just wasn't to be for him. And luckily, hopefully this guy's going to come in, stamp his his mark. And we're going to get into winning ways again, fingers crossed.
00:30:50
Speaker
Hopefully started with a win. and you go Hopefully not. I'm sticking on my, I'm sticking on my mindset. I've changed my mind already once. I'm not changing back. I'm sticking on that. I'd rather play you first game of a new system than down the line. I thought I'm scared of new manager bounce, but so i don't I said, I mean, I said the same thing about Liverpool on the opening day. That's the perfect time with a new manager and stuff. And then second half we weren't at the races at all. But for 45 minutes we had them.
00:31:18
Speaker
and them where we want them I thought and we could have gone and got our results so if we can do that and have had the 10 games experience and to try and drag out over 90 but we might have a chance but yeah should we wrap up with some score predictions then I'll go to you first nine I haven't predicted this yet this season for United. I'm feeling confident. I'm being completely swan and swooned by this new manager. I'm going for a three, no three, no United apartment road super Sunday. Yeah. We're back on track. We're going to get into the top half. of the tip
00:31:53
Speaker
i'm I'm definitely going to go for a win. We're definitely going to win it. I think I'm going to get free one. I think you're going to get a goal. You're going to score. Definitely. Um, cause obviously if this new system comes in and might be a few glitches at the back, just getting it all tightened up, getting it nice and squeaky. But yeah, I think it's going to be free one. It's new manager balance. Like you say, we're going to have a lot of confidence and yeah, we're going to, we're going to win free one. Cool money. I'm going to have to put me money where out I can't keep saying this is the right time. I think this is a better time to go and play. ever it You definitely score because clean sheets is not what we do.
00:32:28
Speaker
and so Even if it's even at one nil in the 95th minute or something, we found it we find a way to concede that. I think that there's going to be goals. I think because our defense, I think you're adapting to a new system and we don't, well, we um just leak goals for fun. Really. We did last year as well. We had the ability to go and win the game by outscoring, which we, we slowly seem to be getting back. We're getting better in front of goal. So I'm going to go.
00:32:55
Speaker
and no a nervy ending but a 2-1 win for town at home because I think that oh yeah i got the going to go under rain. remote yeah the right yeah ah that's the only gar rood yeah I think the the lads made a good point on our episode that went out yesterday that about the atmosphere ah about how that's going to go up Portland row is not high on people's lists and you think of the places you go and get intimidated by the atmosphere, but it's a good old school ground. None of this bowl. Yeah, I like the old school ground. Places like Spurs that when they ever get behind, so these these massive games, so we've already had Liverpool come and like I said, 45 minutes with a better team. And then I thought it didn't turn up in the second half, unfortunately, but we' we've got 10 games Premier League experience under our belt now. So I think we can manage that second half better and
00:33:47
Speaker
Certainly on what we've seen so far, there's a little bit of a drop in quality between Liverpool and United as well. So far, so I'm going to have to drop on behalf of the the Blue Army. I'm going to have to go confident because I can't say I've said said three or four times that I'd rather play you now than in a couple of weeks. So I then can't do all that and then say, oh, actually, we're going to lose. I think, yeah, I hope when you put crumble under the atmosphere because you've had even been known to do that a couple of times over the last few seasons. if I'm hoping that's a player problem, not a 10 hard problem.
00:34:17
Speaker
And then we get the atmosphere bounce and the players will start to fall apart. Oh, we'll be like kick off Sunday under the lights. It's going to be magic. The Tosh Lane is going to be brought in. Delaf is going to bring it in, bring the Tosh Lane in for the throw-ins. And then we can't play Wing Blacks because the pitch is too narrow. And that's going to be a disaster. I can see it already. Well, we'll see how it all goes, how it all plays out on Sunday. But we'll have to call the episode there, unfortunately. It's been a great laugh going through the game.
00:34:47
Speaker
Well, I'm going to have to see how it all turns out on the pitch. So thank you to Niall and Ollie for joining me and representing Man United here today. Make sure you check out this podcast, Daily Manchester United on the network, all the usual places, same place you can find ours. If you want to get on our socials, we're trying to make a bit more of an effort now, getting our posting back up again at GSP. Help if I got it right, wouldn't it? If you're going to find it at GSP and Ipswich.
00:35:12
Speaker
I hope, like I say, we're going to try and make a bit more of an effort, certainly in the short term, until we all run out of time again. But you're going to follow us on there. But until then, we will be back next week with our podcast, hopefully reacting from our side of things to a town win. I'll keep my fingers crossed on that one and we'll see how it all plays out. But from all of us three, thank you for listening. We hope you enjoyed the episode and we will catch you later. Every club.
