Global Sports Podcast Network
Hello and welcome back to the Daily Newcastle. We've been away for a few weeks, our batteries are recharged, we're ready for the new season, that may be not quite true, um but there's a lot going on still, even though it's a close season for us.
00:00:27
Global Sports Podcast Network
ah My name's Ian Mackay, I'm your host tonight, and this welcome back 19 days later from when we closed, I'm joined tonight by Joanne. How are you Joanne?
00:00:38
Jo
I'm good. It's good to be doing a pod again. Feels like we've been away for too long, I've got to be honest.
00:00:43
Global Sports Podcast Network
I'm hoping I haven't forgotten where all the controls are. But so i have I have titled today's podcast Transfer Tittle Tattle because unusually for a summer when it is really dead at the start of June, a transfer window has opened and then closed and now reopened.
00:00:47
Jo
a We'll wing it as usual. Ooh, I like that.
00:01:06
Global Sports Podcast Network
And certain clubs have made some very quick moves. to make transfers because they needed teams to, uh, players to be joining their team for the club world cup, which has started a special hello and welcome by the way, to any of the Auckland town fans who tuned in in the middle of the night to watch their team get a wall up 10 nil by Bayern Munich yesterday.
00:01:30
Jo
Oh dear.
00:01:31
Global Sports Podcast Network
Nevermind lads. Um, so there have been a number of, of really quite high profile, um,
00:01:40
Global Sports Podcast Network
transfers in this first couple of uh first couple of weeks of june uh and i i'm a bit disappointed or was it a bit disappointed that one or two of them i think were quite high up on our list of who we would have quite liked to come but they've gone sadly um the ones i would like to mention first and foremost matthias kunia from wolverhampton wanderers who has been officially announced now as having joined um
00:01:56
Jo
hu
00:02:10
Global Sports Podcast Network
perennial relegation strugglers, Manchester United. Shouldn't really call them that, should I? um And Brian Mbwemo, who was on our list for about 15 minutes and then suddenly he's on his way to Manchester United.
00:02:16
Jo
No, you can.
00:02:26
Global Sports Podcast Network
Or is he? How do you feel about seeing those two things unfold in that first week, Joanne? What about Cunha?
00:02:35
Jo
Kunye, I'll be honest. I'm not saying I didn't want Kunye. I just didn't feel like we were ever... gonna get Kunya or were massively in for Kunya I don't know I could be entirely wrong however it was a very quick deal wasn't it to Manu so maybe that was just he wasn't even considering anyone else who knows um but the Kunya one as I say it it wasn't that I was very disappointed because I honestly didn't think it was a one that was massively progressing on our side anyway or anything like that there was minor talks let's say um that would heard of but the emblemo one is probably the one that
00:03:07
Jo
I would say God is, but only because of the fact that, I'll admit, for months and months I've rattled on about wanting Mbwemo and he should be the main guy, he should be the one that you should go after, throw everything at it, all this sort of stuff.
00:03:18
Jo
However... kind of going to eat my own words to a degree because how I feel about Mbwemo is if he's so hell-bent on going to the likes of Man U and he's wanting money over anything so that's all it is let's get real um because all jokes aside they are shocking at the minute and I know they could pull it around they could get better they can only get better in a way let's get real after last season um but the Mbwemo wanted me would be a disappointment because I did want him but I've always said this year in year out for a
00:03:39
Global Sports Podcast Network
Mm-hmm.
00:03:46
Jo
decades now if a player doesn't want us we don't want him so i'm going to stick by that mantra um so Mbwemo you can go to Manu you can have fun there or maybe not have fun I'll be honest however on the Mbwemo note please god let um Thomas Frank at Spurs hijack that deal and take him to Spurs because how funny would that be
00:04:07
Global Sports Podcast Network
That would be, it would be hilarious. I mean, I was quite disappointed. I'm quite disappointed about Mbwemo disappearing so quickly, although he hasn't officially disappeared anywhere yet, which is why i think maybe he just made unrealistic wage demands to mean nobody would say yes straight away because because Thomas Frank going to Tottenham must have been in the wind for weeks beforehand and he's just waiting to see whether he can go and play for His mentor, Thomas Frank, is the guy who's taken him from nowhere and converted him into a fantastic Premier League player.
00:04:45
Global Sports Podcast Network
and So if that's the case, then he was never going to come to Newcastle. He was always waiting for where Thomas Frank would go. And at least it's not Newcastle with any egg on their face.
00:04:52
Jo
Which is fine. Mm-hmm.
00:04:55
Global Sports Podcast Network
It's going to be Manchester United who look a little bit dim. Because they said yes to his £250,000 week wage demands, didn't they? ah we late waged a man didn't i
00:05:06
Jo
It's nuts, that man. I know he's good, but come on.
00:05:09
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:05:10
Jo
don't know.
00:05:10
Global Sports Podcast Network
Well, i you know, Kev would have been thrilled to bits because Kev has always championed Anthony Alanga as who he wants to play down the right. We'll come on to who we think we're going for in part two, so I'll leave that one there.
00:05:22
Jo
Mm-hmm.
00:05:25
Global Sports Podcast Network
ah But there certainly are a number of right-wingers who would fit the bill for us to strengthen that side. and What about Roy DeLapp? We're looking for an understudy who's going to get 20 or 30 starts next year and understood it to Isaac.
00:05:40
Jo
Yeah.
00:05:43
Global Sports Podcast Network
And that, for me, would have really fitted the bill. um And he came to Newcastle and had a chat, apparently.
00:05:47
Jo
yeah Apparently.
00:05:52
Global Sports Podcast Network
But again, um ah think he thinks he's going to be the main man in Chelsea. Number nine. ah He will just be as...
00:06:00
Jo
Yeah.
00:06:03
Global Sports Podcast Network
um No doubt he'll do some good stuff. But I think there's too much pressure
00:06:06
Jo
Yeah.
00:06:08
Global Sports Podcast Network
on that team, that team's number nine, for him to just step straight in and and carry it all himself.
00:06:10
Jo
Yep.
00:06:15
Global Sports Podcast Network
I think he needs a year or two with a bigger team where he's learning from some seasoned pros.
00:06:18
Jo
I absolutely agree. Yeah, I think.
00:06:22
Global Sports Podcast Network
So we don't care about De Lapland.
00:06:24
Jo
Um, it's not a case I don't care about him, but I wasn't overly sad to hear he was going to again, it was such a kind of quick deal done to Chelsea that it was almost like, was he genuinely considering us? Or did he have that chat with us? Realize that he's not going to be the number one striker, which he claims, or sorry, should I say the media claim he's demanding to be.
00:06:43
Jo
And as soon as you put stuff like that out, he's never going to be number one for us. All right, we've got a heck of a lot going on this season. we've got obviously the cups we've got champions league we've got a lot more action than we did last season and so he would have got a lot more start potentially depends how hell wants to kind of rotate things but maybe we've told him exactly how we would use him and as such he wasn't interested but you're right he's going to go to chelsea what assuming that he's going to get a lot more starts that squad's huge man like what makes him think that he's going to be necessarily the immediate start number nine could be wrong maybe he is but yeah i think um
00:07:19
Jo
Again, it was a deal that i couldn't be too sad about because it happened so quickly that it was just like, oh, well, like it was almost like, well, he was never coming to us type of attitude.
00:07:25
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:07:27
Jo
Yeah, that's it. Honestly, out of those three that we've talked about, Mbwemo was the only one that I was slightly bothered about, but it's only because I've rattled on for months about wanting him. That's the main thing behind that.
00:07:35
Global Sports Podcast Network
yeah the yeah I think a better fit for Chelsea, if what they want is somebody to take over Nicholas Jackson's number nine shirt and be the main man, and I hate saying this because, again, we're going to come on to this guy in part two, a better fit for them to do that is Joe Pedro.
00:07:53
Jo
yeah
00:07:53
Global Sports Podcast Network
And De Lapp could learn a lot from Jao Pedro, who's just that little bit older, that little bit more experienced. Five years, I think it is in the Premier League he's got now. Well, a bit of time with Watford, I'm not sure, in the other season and in the championship as well.
00:08:02
Jo
Mm-hmm.
00:08:08
Global Sports Podcast Network
But yeah, so I think Jao Pedro is a much better fit for them than De Lapp is. But whoever got De Lapp was going to get a bargain, weren't they, because of that release clause.
00:08:17
Jo
Yeah.
00:08:19
Global Sports Podcast Network
So you can't blame anybody for grabbing him.
00:08:19
Jo
Oh, it was a good deal. Mm-hmm.
00:08:22
Global Sports Podcast Network
and ah Chelsea, of course, had to move quickly because I think they're taking him to the yeah Club World Cup. A team not going to the Club World Cup, though, have smashed the UK transfer record.
00:08:36
Global Sports Podcast Network
Do you know much about Florian Vert? Because I'll be honest, I don't know tons about him. Is he that good? Is he 116 million good?
00:08:48
Jo
I was surprised at the fee. um ah do think he's a good player from what I know him. Well, he's a great player. is a great player. But I've got to be honest, I was a bit surprised at the fee. But our fees in general just absolutely ridiculous at the minute. Like some of the ones that are flying about, everything just seems to be so high. As I say, we've got like the Premier League proven players, which are ridiculous.
00:09:09
Jo
Or if they're English, slap an extra 10, 20, 30 million on some of them. You know what I mean? But maybe Verts is going to I don't know, it's one of them.
00:09:21
Jo
I do think he's a great player. So I'm not going to say anything against that. But yeah, I was surprised at the kind of height of that one.
00:09:27
Global Sports Podcast Network
what One of the impressions I get from the sort of prices being quoted for who we are going for is that we are not really, we're not a million miles off in in slapping 150 million quid down on Alec Isaac.
00:09:34
Jo
Yeah. 100%. Mm-hmm.
00:09:43
Jo
yeah hundred percent
00:09:45
Global Sports Podcast Network
I mean, ah that fits with what everybody else is spending, I think.
00:09:51
Jo
I mean, well, we talked about this during the seasons. This is before anyone started spending this kind of crazy money or slapping prices on other players. We said during the season, if we were going to sell them, we'd expect about 150 million for them.
00:10:02
Jo
And I really don't think that's unreasonable. People could call us deluded or whatever, but I don't think many people would. Because I've heard a lot of players, like even ex-players or anything outside of our team, outside the area, whatever you call it.
00:10:14
Jo
who agree and they say if he really is the best striker in the world, best striker in Europe, whatever you want to call at the minute, why not slap the that's like that level of kind of price tag on him? Absolutely.
00:10:25
Jo
I mean, don't get us wrong. I don't want us to sell him, but imagine if someone comes along and offers 150.
00:10:27
Global Sports Podcast Network
no
00:10:29
Jo
We're going to take it, right?
00:10:31
Global Sports Podcast Network
Well, would we? We don't have to. That's an interesting moot point.
00:10:35
Jo
I know we don't have to, Ian, but that's a lot.
00:10:37
Global Sports Podcast Network
let's hope we're not Let's hope we're not tested this summer.
00:10:39
Jo
You know what i mean? That's a lot of money.
00:10:41
Global Sports Podcast Network
Let's hope we're not tested this summer.
00:10:42
Jo
no
00:10:43
Global Sports Podcast Network
I mean, in reality, in a world where you have to learn how to trade, I don't think
00:10:47
Jo
Mm-mm.
00:10:48
Global Sports Podcast Network
If Alex Izak has another season where he starts 34 out of 38 Premier League teams and he scores another 25 goals, I don't think he's going to be worth any more than 150 million. He could only have a disappointing season and knock his value down, in my book.
00:11:03
Global Sports Podcast Network
So maybe is the right time to sell him whereas where he's maxed out.
00:11:03
Jo
True.
00:11:07
Global Sports Podcast Network
But that's not a suggestion, Eddie. Don't listen to me. Please hand on to Alex Izak.
00:11:11
Jo
No.
00:11:13
Global Sports Podcast Network
We'll pause there. We'll pause there and hear from lovely Ken, who, by the way, I heard isn't very well at the moment.
00:11:20
Jo
oh
00:11:20
Global Sports Podcast Network
And he's got a bit of a battle to do. So, Ken, if you're listening, mate, get well soon from all of us here at Daily Newcastle.
00:11:26
Jo
Absolutely.
00:11:28
Global Sports Podcast Network
And here's yourself to listen to with your lovely bionic advert.
00:12:10
Jo
Yeah.
00:12:10
Global Sports Podcast Network
I'm just laughing, Joanne, because by the end of last season, when we were into our 150th pod, Michael and I, we were all doing the the the deaf person presentation for the Bionic advert and just sitting relaxed and larking around.
00:12:27
Jo
yeah
00:12:29
Global Sports Podcast Network
Whereas now, because i've had three weeks off, I'm really concentrating hard, not doing or saying anything naughty or silly, just to make sure that nothing goes wrong.
00:12:35
Jo
ah
00:12:39
Global Sports Podcast Network
Excellent.
00:12:40
Global Sports Podcast Network
Anyway, we're back. Part two. Who are we going for then? One or two seem a little bit further advanced, um but I think we're going to have a ah continuing theme here of how expensive everybody seems.
00:12:40
Jo
Aw.
00:12:49
Jo
Mm-hmm.
00:12:55
Global Sports Podcast Network
The main one, the one that was going to be done straight away, the one that was agreed last year, the one where the guy um has said on the podcast that is a really good fit and he can't wait to come effectively is James Trafford.
00:12:56
Jo
Mm-hmm.
00:13:09
Global Sports Podcast Network
which I'm guessing hasn't happened because instead of 25 mil, which he would have been last summer, we're now being quoted 40 million, according to the press.
00:13:15
Jo
yeah
00:13:18
Jo
Yeah.
00:13:19
Global Sports Podcast Network
And I'll be honest with you, given the season that he had last year, where he shattered the clean sheets record in the championship, and think he only let 17 goals in or something.
00:13:32
Global Sports Podcast Network
um
00:13:32
Jo
Mm-hmm.
00:13:32
Global Sports Podcast Network
I'm not surprised his value's gone up and now he's a premiership goalkeeper again. So um I don't think it should have taken anybody by too much surprise that they're looking for a lot more than 25 for him when we look this summer.
00:13:45
Global Sports Podcast Network
But that apparently is what has stalled things.
00:13:48
Jo
Yeah.
00:13:48
Global Sports Podcast Network
What's your view on that? Firstly, do we need to spend 40 million on a goalkeeper when we have um we have Nick Pope and Martin Dubravka?
00:14:01
Jo
That's my concern. I've got to be honest, because know what you're saying about his records last season, but it was in the championship. And I'm not saying it's an easy league. It's not an easy league at all. It's a very strangely tough league, I'll be honest.
00:14:13
Jo
um But its still, it wasn't in the Premier League at the same time. So there is that kind of quality, obviously, difference between the two leagues. Now, 40 million on a keeper, that potentially isn't going to be the number one, because there's obviously massive talk that he's still going to be understudy to Pope.
00:14:29
Jo
So it is a lot of money on a keeper that's going to be sitting second fiddle still, which rightly so, to a degree. You know, he's still young. He's still got a lot to learn. And he could be amazing for us in the future. so I'm not saying that we shouldn't buy him.
00:14:41
Jo
But I can kind of understand that maybe our owners, and they've said this before, they're not going to be hardballed in any deal. So maybe they feel like they're being hardballed into a deal that because it's been going on for so long, a greedy year ago, all this sort of stuff, that all of a sudden now they're just going to whack another 15 million on and expect us to just go, yeah, yeah, fine, we'll give you it.
00:15:00
Jo
So maybe it's just all massive negotiation and they'll end up somewhere in the middle. Who knows? um I think they had it up to 30, I don't think there would have been... much kind of backlash on it but maybe because there's a a massive uplift from 25 to 40 maybe that's the kind of thing obviously again all speculation isn't it but are we after is it i'll not i'll butcher his name cobble or cobble or something from brucey dortmund um greg gregor is that right couple i'm definitely saying his name wrong i don't say anyone's name right let's get real
00:15:30
Global Sports Podcast Network
I don't know. you've done you did too much You've done too much research, Joanne. I don't know who you've been.
00:15:35
Jo
Oh, I've done too much research. I mean, I'm not going to lie. I know nothing about the keeper. um But yeah, as I say, apparently there's that we're at that we're looking at. Sorry, that keeper from Dortmund as well.
00:15:45
Global Sports Podcast Network
Well,
00:15:45
Jo
So I've got no comments on him by the way.
00:15:46
Global Sports Podcast Network
i
00:15:47
Jo
Like I say, I know nothing about him, but maybe that's playing a factor as well.
00:15:50
Global Sports Podcast Network
I certainly don't mind us casting the net a little bit wider if the only choice is Trafford at 40 million.
00:15:54
Jo
Mm-hmm.
00:15:58
Global Sports Podcast Network
I know he's a good goalkeeper, but look, last year we could have got Marma Dashvili for 40 million.
00:16:04
Jo
Yep.
00:16:05
Global Sports Podcast Network
This year, and roger yeah he's going to be first choice for Liverpool next year. and This year we could have got Kelleher from Liverpool. who was in goal for half of their premiership winning side.
00:16:19
Global Sports Podcast Network
For 12, I know it rises to 18, but it's still less than half what will be quoted for Trafford.
00:16:21
Jo
Yeah.
00:16:25
Global Sports Podcast Network
I think he's way overpriced. and
00:16:28
Jo
Yeah.
00:16:28
Global Sports Podcast Network
And I know people are talking about him being the England goalkeeper for the next 10 years. But, you know, it's a goalkeeper, isn't it? Let's be fair. So, yeah, I think we move on from Trafford if they're not going to come down from that one.
00:16:43
Global Sports Podcast Network
There was a lot of talk about Alanga.
00:16:46
Jo
Of
00:16:46
Global Sports Podcast Network
At 40 million and then now suddenly he's got 60 million against his name.
00:16:50
Jo
course.
00:16:51
Global Sports Podcast Network
And a lot of talk about Joe Pedro from Brighton, who was always at 60 million. And Joe Pedro seems to have nudged forward in the in the gossip stakes because I think he's said he he was disappointed not to join Newcastle from Watford two and a half years ago, three years ago.
00:16:57
Jo
yeah
00:17:09
Jo
yeah
00:17:10
Global Sports Podcast Network
um What about those two players, Geron? Are they the right sort of players for Newcastle, do you think?
00:17:16
Jo
Oh, yeah, I think Helen, the team can do a lot with those two players, I'll be honest. Ilanga, we've talked about wanting him in the past, and I'm honest, I just thought it was someone that Forrest wouldn't let go. So if it is someone we can get for the right price, like we've just said, um I'd absolutely be interested in Ilanga.
00:17:31
Jo
He's done great things last season.
00:17:32
Global Sports Podcast Network
okay
00:17:33
Jo
um Pedro, you're right, though. He has come out, apparently, and said... I mean, you know, never heard it out of his actual mouth, but apparently he's came out and said that he does want the move and he would even be willing to play on the right wing, which I find very interesting considering the whole Newcastle-leading new right winger thing.
00:17:49
Jo
But then some people are saying, yeah, it's all good. I'm saying he's happy to play out on the right wing, but he's not really a right winger at the same time. So... I'm kind of torn on that one because I've always said I love a player who's flexible and who's happy to play where the team needs him.
00:18:02
Jo
So used to always say that about Gordon because i know Gordon loves the left. But I've always said if Gordon's needed on the right, maybe Gordon needs to suck it up and play on the right type of thing. So um if Pedro really has come out and said this, I like that kind of attitude personally from a player.
00:18:15
Jo
And if he really wants to join it us, it goes back to what I said about Mbemo. He doesn't want to join us, stuff him. Pedro wants to join us, brilliant. I want a player that genuinely wants to be with us.
00:18:26
Global Sports Podcast Network
I think he's ah he's a real viable alternative with a number nine on his back if he's axed.
00:18:31
Jo
Yep.
00:18:32
Global Sports Podcast Network
carrying a groin injury for a few games, for example. And he plays down the left as well.
00:18:35
Jo
Which happens to them?
00:18:37
Global Sports Podcast Network
I know we've got a lot of players that play down the left.
00:18:39
Jo
He's flexible though, that's what I mean. It's another flexibility across the front for us, isn't it? 442.
00:18:42
Global Sports Podcast Network
but it But it gives, it would give Howe and Tyndall maybe an opportunity to switch up different tactics, play two up front even, you know, switch in game.
00:18:54
Jo
four for two
00:18:56
Global Sports Podcast Network
in game um i think I think he's a really good player. and to Question a mark over his attitude because of some elbow that he threw.
00:19:07
Jo
Yeah.
00:19:07
Global Sports Podcast Network
But, you know, let's be honest, if we were looking at Joe Linton as a signing, we might have a question mark over his attitude or a question mark over Bruno's attitude.
00:19:16
Jo
We would. Let's get real.
00:19:19
Jo
Well, look at Anthony Gordon's attitude.
00:19:19
Global Sports Podcast Network
But
00:19:21
Jo
I'm not going to lie, i did not like Gordon at all. I thought he had a stinking attitude at Evan. I thought he was a bit of a wind-up, well, a lot of a wind-up merchant, actually. I just didn't like him. He come across as a bit of a snidey little player.
00:19:32
Jo
And quite frankly, when he first joined us, Eddie had to have a word with him when he had a hissy fit when he got took off that time, didn't he? So he's been sorted out.
00:19:38
Global Sports Podcast Network
yeah
00:19:39
Jo
Is Pedro someone that hell can sort out as well? You can kind of knock that out to some people, can't you, if you've got a bit of a bad attitude. So those sort of things can change in my eyes.
00:19:49
Global Sports Podcast Network
Now I'm hoping you get Alanga and Pedro into the same team because they're also talking about us needing another midfielder to replace Longstaff and Willock.
00:20:05
Jo
Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm.
00:20:05
Global Sports Podcast Network
apparently, and the name that's being touted is Jacob Ramsey from Aston Villa. Joe Pedro plays that position.
00:20:14
Jo
Yep.
00:20:15
Global Sports Podcast Network
Just saying. Nobody seems to have connected that.
00:20:16
Jo
Yeah.
00:20:18
Global Sports Podcast Network
Joe Pedro can play as a number 10, super skillful, great range of passing. um I wouldn't mind that, mind. and Certainly as an upgrade on um Joe Willock as an attacking midfield player, Joe Pedro would be fabulous.
00:20:36
Jo
Oh, fantastic.
00:20:36
Global Sports Podcast Network
um Is there anything else we missed? Any other position? We haven't mentioned centre-halves yet.
00:20:42
Jo
We haven't touched on that. The the only thing i would say about the Murphy thing, again, it's, you know, it's all media driven stuff, but is this not, was it? Oh, well, sorry. It was linked to the fact that even potentially Willock would have went in the opposite direction.
00:20:54
Jo
And it was more like a fiddle on the old PSR thing. A bit like how we've got that Greek keeper who I can't say his name. Because it was all just a... It is, though, isn't it? This is the problem of PSR.
00:21:04
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:21:04
Jo
So it was like Villa have got the same problems we've got. So was it more like, oh, look, we'll do a swap deal. And that'll kind of pie off a bit of that side of things. And it'll give us more money to play with on that side. So it's a bit mental that we're really looking to almost swap players.
00:21:17
Jo
We might not be, by the way. This is just media-driven stuff. But this is where that stemmed from, I think, that Murphy deal.
00:21:21
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, I don't think we're in a hole where we need to do it. Villa might be.
00:21:26
Jo
No, no.
00:21:26
Global Sports Podcast Network
i mean, that's what they talk about.
00:21:27
Jo
no.
00:21:28
Global Sports Podcast Network
Villa might be.
00:21:28
Jo
But it could almost help us, though.
00:21:29
Global Sports Podcast Network
but i would I would, if we were going to go and raid Villa, um I would sell Willock to either Fulham or Palace, who are quite interested to apparently.
00:21:38
Jo
Mm-hmm.
00:21:39
Global Sports Podcast Network
So are here. We'll talk about that after part three. But I'd go and raid Palace. I'd leave Jacob Ramsey on their subspension. go after Konza. England's centre-half, Konza.
00:21:50
Global Sports Podcast Network
Gehie's going to cost a fortune.
00:21:51
Jo
Good shout.
00:21:52
Global Sports Podcast Network
Konza is underrated in the England squad. He's fantastic player. And he can cover it full-back as well.
00:21:56
Jo
Mm-hmm.
00:21:59
Jo
Mm-hmm.
00:21:59
Global Sports Podcast Network
That's who I would go after if Villa were really in a hole.
00:22:01
Jo
That's a great shout, that one.
00:22:02
Global Sports Podcast Network
and Let's go and steal him.
00:22:04
Jo
Mm-hmm.
00:22:05
Global Sports Podcast Network
and Right. So that's who we might go for. And one thing I will say at that point, Joanne, is they're all Premier League players. They've all got a Premier League premium on them.
00:22:15
Jo
Yep.
00:22:17
Global Sports Podcast Network
And yet all of Eddie's
00:22:18
Jo
Yep.
00:22:19
Global Sports Podcast Network
All of Eddie's best purchases have been European players.
00:22:27
Jo
Yeah.
00:22:27
Global Sports Podcast Network
I'm thinking of Bruno and Tonali and Isaac and Botman, who've all come out of Europe for mid fees and proven themselves to be approaching a hundred million pound players.
00:22:40
Jo
Share.
00:22:45
Jo
true true
00:22:45
Global Sports Podcast Network
That's our biased view. But yeah, they've all doubled their value, haven't they, from what we paid for them. and And none of those were heralded.
00:22:50
Jo
sure
00:22:52
Global Sports Podcast Network
They all came out of the blue for us, I think. So I'm kind of hoping that a lot of this talk about overpriced Premier League players that we're interested in is just a smokescreen for one or two little undiscovered European gems to suddenly turn up.
00:23:10
Global Sports Podcast Network
Fingers crossed. and We'll pause there and let's hear you give us the lovely Zencastrider.
00:23:15
Jo
Let's hear me. Oh, back with a banger. um Here at Global Sports Podcast Network, we spent a lot of time selecting our delivery platform. Zencastr came out the clear winner.

00:23:42
Global Sports Podcast Network
Brilliant. Thank you for that, Joanne. And back with a bang.
00:23:44
Jo
No worries.
00:23:45
Global Sports Podcast Network
Not sure what you were suggesting there, but I'm going to Royal Ascot for the next two days.
00:23:49
Jo
There we go. Don't lose too much, right?
00:23:51
Global Sports Podcast Network
Anyway. yeah Right. So what are we could what we going to talk about to finish off? I can't remember now. Oh, yes, I can.
00:24:01
Global Sports Podcast Network
Let's say we go for those five positions. but We've got 70 mil for a langer. 60 mil for Olanga, 60 for Joe Pedro, 320.
00:24:12
Global Sports Podcast Network
60 for Gehi, they're talking about. 40 for Trafford.
00:24:16
Jo
Mm-hmm.
00:24:18
Global Sports Podcast Network
And, well, we're already over 220 million there. ah We are not going to be able to address all of the issues we think need addressing to give us a Champions League-ready squad without selling some players.
00:24:23
Jo
Yeah.
00:24:32
Global Sports Podcast Network
So, we probably looked at this at the end of the season, and I don't know if there's anything and to change from it who are we going to get fee from existing squad members without losing one of our our stars
00:24:50
Jo
Stars.
00:24:53
Jo
I mean, we've touched on today's pod and we've touched on million times before. We're not, thankfully, in a position this year where we have to have a mass exodus of players. We're not being forced like we were in the last window or the previous window or whatever.
00:25:07
Jo
um
00:25:08
Global Sports Podcast Network
Thank you.
00:25:09
Jo
any big big losses if you know what i mean um so i would hope that it's going to be a position where we can just offload the likes of long staff who i believe is a cert to go anyway based on a lot of different things that i've heard um willick we've talked about willick leaving many times i can't see him leaving i'll be honest especially if we are looking to kind of fill whether it is um jail Pedro, whether it is Murphy, who knows, or whether it's someone that we haven't even discovered yet, let's say.
00:25:39
Jo
And when I say discovered, I mean us, by the way. So I'm sure the club have got other people lined up because what we'll also have to recognise is what Eddie and the team have done in some windows where all of a sudden someone's come out of the blue, you haven't really heard much rumours and then bang, we've got this amazing signing on the go sort of thing.
00:25:43
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:25:56
Jo
So you never know. It could be something where... We're having this conversation right now and they've got someone completely different lined up. So that's why I'm... um I'm waiting for that sort of thing, I'll be honest. I think just off the pass that I'm waiting for this little surprise.
00:26:10
Jo
Signing up too that it's just another gem that Eddie's kind of picked up, whether it is from the Premier League already or radio whether it's from abroad. But like you say, a lot of his kind of gems have been from abroad, so...
00:26:22
Jo
But in terms of letting go, I'm trying to think who else really that is worth anything. I know it sounds awful, but like you can think of many players that we can offload. But really, what they worth to us? A couple of million here and there you know, it's nothing really in the whole world of PSR, is it?
00:26:38
Jo
So it's almost offloading for the sake of offloading at that point. And really, I'd rather just keep some in terms of depth of squad, because we've talked about a million times, we're going to need a squad depth massively and importantly for this upcoming season.
00:26:49
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah. Yeah, you're right. I mean, i would think that Longstaff and Willock are on a And Willock's further up that list, but longstaff is Longstaff's going, isn't he?
00:27:02
Global Sports Podcast Network
Willock could easily go if we needed to raise it.
00:27:03
Jo
Oh God, yeah.
00:27:05
Global Sports Podcast Network
I think Target should go.
00:27:07
Jo
Yeah.
00:27:07
Global Sports Podcast Network
i think Dubravka will go.
00:27:10
Jo
Oh God, yeah, especially if we sign Trafford.
00:27:10
Global Sports Podcast Network
ah less unless you joke Unless you want to wait until Trafford's relegated with Burnley and buy him next year when he's £30 million again. um But then he'll be a relegated goalkeeper, so why would you buy him?
00:27:23
Global Sports Podcast Network
Anyway, and yeah. What I'm kind of hoping, by the way, is we don't need to buy one of the players that we've mentioned. I think we've got two
00:27:34
Global Sports Podcast Network
gems to come into the first team picture every game. I think Lewis Miley should be ahead of Willock, should be ahead of Longstaff.
00:27:44
Jo
Oh God, yeah.
00:27:47
Global Sports Podcast Network
which means that over the course of the season, he's playing every game. He's starting 15 or 20 of the 60 that we'll have to play. and So maybe we don't need anything other than a ah squad midfielder, which could easily come from one or two of the lads in the under-21s.
00:28:08
Global Sports Podcast Network
I'm thinking that, is it Archie Harrison that came from Man City? Alfie Harrison came from Man City.
00:28:12
Jo
Yeah. Horace and you.
00:28:14
Global Sports Podcast Network
ah He's got to be tried. But what about the performance of Willa Sula for the Denmark under-21s this week? He scored twice.
00:28:25
Jo
Brilliant there.
00:28:27
Global Sports Podcast Network
Came on as a sub and turned the game with an assist and a goal to beat Newt Grain.
00:28:29
Jo
Yep.
00:28:31
Global Sports Podcast Network
Scored twice last night. I haven't seen the goals yet, but I'm going to dig them out. I mean, that guy's got to be playing. and he's not going to be playing He's not going to be starting ahead of Isaac, but he's certainly somebody who could come on after 60 minutes.
00:28:38
Jo
Agri.
00:28:41
Jo
Nope. Yeah. Yeah.
00:28:45
Global Sports Podcast Network
and equally, and we've seen it once or twice it being used, Howe's tended to use him as a replacement for Murphy down on the right-hand side because he's got some fantastic tricks.
00:28:55
Jo
Mm-hmm.
00:28:57
Global Sports Podcast Network
He's big, powerful, super fast, right-footed.
00:28:58
Jo
Yes.
00:29:03
Global Sports Podcast Network
Why on earth can't he be turned with another pre-season and more intense coaching into a good squad playing right-winger?
00:29:10
Jo
ha agree.
00:29:14
Global Sports Podcast Network
um I think those two might save us a fortune um in terms of actually buying a ready-made Premier League ready replacement from some of the other teams.
00:29:14
Jo
Mm-hmm.
00:29:17
Jo
Yeah.
00:29:23
Jo
Mm-hmm.
00:29:26
Global Sports Podcast Network
and
00:29:27
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, that's probably it, is it not?
00:29:30
Jo
It is, be fair. I mean, you bang on with Azula, by the way.
00:29:32
Global Sports Podcast Network
Can't really sell anybody else's.
00:29:34
Jo
Now, like I said, though, like even when I was mentioning about not getting much, are we going much for Target? You know what i mean? We're talking... It sounds mad to say pocket change when you talk about a few million, doesn't it?
00:29:42
Global Sports Podcast Network
I think the benefit of selling him is...
00:29:45
Jo
But you know what I mean in terms, in the grand scheme of it all. It's
00:29:48
Global Sports Podcast Network
the benefit The benefit of Target is that he's got... He has left on his contract and he's on allegedly 100,000 a week, which is 5 million of 5 million.
00:29:57
Jo
nuts.
00:29:58
Global Sports Podcast Network
That adds 10 million back into the pot if Target goes.
00:30:01
Jo
True.
00:30:02
Global Sports Podcast Network
um But then you've got to find somebody willing to pay something close to that for him to get his first team football. Nothing to stop him just sitting and...
00:30:08
Jo
True.
00:30:11
Global Sports Podcast Network
collecting his money and trading with them and that's it anyway it's all very exciting and I hope that Kev and Michael and Nicola are listening to us here because I'm sure they'll have some insights we'll be told who we've picked that should not be picked and who we've not mentioned that we should have mentioned no doubt any of you guys out there listening think that we've missed anybody obvious as to who should be sold
00:30:14
Jo
Mm-hmm. True.
00:30:31
Jo
true
00:30:37
Global Sports Podcast Network
as to who should be bored, to which position we should strengthen, or which position we shouldn't bother trying to strengthen, please let us know in the comments section. We'll address them at some stage later on in the transfer window.
00:30:50
Global Sports Podcast Network
So after that, think that's probably us ready to go, Joanne. I just leave you by requesting that you like and subscribe to our YouTube video.
00:31:04
Global Sports Podcast Network
um and Click the bell so that you get notified of everything that's uploaded, because I think there's one going out every morning now. We have pledged, have we not?
00:31:14
Jo
We're back on it.
00:31:14
Global Sports Podcast Network
Signed in blood that we will be doing a ah podcast every morning, because it's every club, every day.
00:31:15
Jo
We have...
00:31:22
Jo
That's it.
00:31:22
Global Sports Podcast Network
yeah Anyway, thank you very much for that, Joanne. That was wonderful.
00:31:26
Jo
It's been a pleasure.
00:31:26
Global Sports Podcast Network
And thank you all for listening. We shall see you soon.
