Speaker
Every club. Every day. The Global Sports Podcast Network. work Hello and welcome to this special bonus episode of the Daily Arsenal Podcast brought to you as part of the Global Sports Podcast Network.

International Break Announcement

00:00:18
Speaker
It's International Break and we'll be back with our full-time programming on Wednesday when we bring you a wildcard Wednesday about all the news that's been going on around the International Break.

Meet the Daily Arsenal Podcast Team

00:00:27
Speaker
But for today, we thought we'd bring you something that realistically is a little bit overdue.
00:00:33
Speaker
We want to give you the chance to get to know us, the Daily Arsenal Global Sports Podcast Network team. So I got in touch with everybody on the podcast and asked them to send in a little voice note about themselves, how they became Arsenal fans and how they became involved in the world of sports media.

Esmond Cole's Arsenal Journey

00:00:51
Speaker
So you're going to be hearing from each of the individual podcasters that make this series so wonderful.
00:01:00
Speaker
And first up, it is the great man himself who is a remarkable individual, has hosted so many of our episodes and is actually off to America very soon to star in a production of Hamlet. So big up to the wonderful Esmond Cole. Yeah, so I'm Esmond, part of the Arsenal arsenal team. um Yeah, so I'm Esmond, part of the Arsenal arsenal team. um Well, who am I, I guess, first? ah Yeah, i'm I'm an actor, a voiceover artist. I do loads of comedy stuff on TV, loads of drama on the stage, which is interesting.
00:01:45
Speaker
um How did I get involved with GSPN? I guess it's interesting because I'm in another group chat, football group chat. I used to do a podcast at and university and we had like and Arsenal, Liverpool, Chelsea, Man United fans all on one podcast. um And those guys we still keep in contact. And one of the guys who was actually part of the Man United team, he he he he mentioned it in the chat like ah ah a while back. And then this year,
00:02:13
Speaker
I've gone about trying to um set up a LinkedIn profile because apparently that's quite good for video games and voiceovers in my field. So I set that up and then I saw the post and I was like, oh, wait, hang on. Isn't this the thing that my man united rival?
00:02:32
Speaker
is doing and lo and behold it was uh so yeah it it was kind of like just going back to uni really doing a little audition podcast sending that in and now part of the part of the best team on gspn which is the arsenal one um so yeah that's kind of how i got involved um why arsenal arsenal it also was an interesting one um i I remember fondly, well, depends how you look at it. I think ah they were losing a game against Man United. And I was like, you know what? I really like the spunk of this team. I must support the one that's losing.
00:03:08
Speaker
So that's kind of how I got into the Arsenal. It was a cornflip really, but I really like the vibe of Arsenal. um And I'm happy that I've chosen them, you know, favourite players. Obviously you've got the, it well, it might be a bit rogue with this one, but you know, the Santikas, all those... I love me some Thomas Rzitski, obviously Thierry Oney, TT of course, Fabregas, a lot of great players. um I liked Tarshavin when he was in form and scoring four goals against Liverpool. That was great.
00:03:42
Speaker
obviously Saka nowadays. ah Ramsey, Ramsey was good. Ramsey was a good head when he was fit and scoring goals for us. Had that amazing season where he just kept on banging in goals. But yeah, man, I've definitely got a soft spot for Santi Cozola, the ambidextrous.
00:04:00
Speaker
Left foot, right foot, you don't know what what what foot you're going to be taking that corner with. um Brilliant player, a joy to watch on the ball. and And then obviously, you know, going to have to do an honourable shout out to the Lord that is Nicholas Bentner. What a, what a player, eh? He played football, that's for sure.
00:04:23
Speaker
That was the fantastic Esman Cole, who has always been brilliant fun and such a brilliant and crucial member of the Daily Arsenal team. Next up, it's time to hear from Mr. Controversy himself, one of the absolute fan favorites. It is Joshua Duncan.

Josh Duncan on Arsenal Fandom and Challenges

00:04:43
Speaker
Hi there, this is Josh Duncan. A massive thanks for all the listeners to listening to the GSPN Arsenal podcast Daily Network.
00:04:51
Speaker
um Yeah, this is just a short recording of myself, um just how I became an Arsenal supporter and you know what I kind of love about Arsenal, what I kind of hate about Arsenal. So um if, well, I guess you don't know me, and all of my family support Arsenal, you know um from cousins to uncles. We've got a few Chelsea supporters. I don't know what really happened with them. I think they probably, you know, are probably born upside down or something like that. But yeah, so, um you know, we all grew up being Arsenal supporters. I grew up being Arsenal supporter.
00:05:21
Speaker
Um, I think my earliest memory of our songs probably maybe maybe 2000 You know, I think ro rowley yeah 2000 because i'm um i'm born in 94 So I think anything in the 90s, I don't i'm not really gonna remember too tough. You know, I mean I remember bits of it You know, but it's not something the way it you know Flows off the tongue, you know, some throws off the memory so yeah, um You know, I used to go to a couple of games um each week um It's extremely hard to get tickets now. you know It's so hard. like what um um What I like to say, the fake Arsenal fans, because we're doing it pretty decent now. um you know I call it them the Instagram Arsenal fans. They've taken the tickets, so it's kind of hard to get tickets, even as a Red member.
00:06:09
Speaker
It's hard to get tickets. um yeah Most of the time with like with my family, you know if there's a big game, and we normally sit down and we go to their house, we watch Arsenal game and we probably debate about certain things. Mainly habits, we probably debate about and one you know one of my uncles who loves habits. I can't bloody stand him. And yeah, that's kind of that's kind of it about me. Arsenal has always been a part of my life since i can't I can't really recall it not being a part of my life. you know So um yeah, i think I think that covers everything really. I'm wondering how I support my arsenal. um Yeah, just a massive thanks out to all your listeners here. Keep describing, keep listening and take care.
00:06:53
Speaker
We love that man. Joshua Duncan there for everybody to listen to, and also very, very

Jamie Patterson's Passion and Career Aspirations

00:06:59
Speaker
thankful. And we've got to echo that thanks as well to everybody who does listen to us. This is a real passion project, the Global Sports Podcast Network. And Josh puts it brilliantly through all of his crazy takes. We have, obviously we have so much fun with Josh. Next up, it is one of the gents who's been with us since the very beginning. Esmond has, Josh has, this next person has, and then the one after him has as well. It is.
00:07:22
Speaker
the fantastic, the enthusiastic, the ever entertaining Jamie Patterson. For me it's pretty obvious why I support Arsenal, it's because I live in Highbury and of course there's only one team you've got to support in North London. I mean who'd go and support the neighbours that are just down the road and You know, don't really have much to really scream about and celebrate, do they? But look, all jokes aside, for me, since I literally live about 10, 15 minutes away from the Emirates, it was just obvious for me to support Arsenal. I breathe Arsenal, live Arsenal, love it, whether I'm coming home ah from work and it's a match day, just the atmosphere, the buzz, it is just everything to me. For me growing up,
00:08:14
Speaker
I've watched some amazing players. Henri was who I really looked up to more than anything. And my world of the media, to be honest with you, ah I would love to be a commentator, commentator or punditry. So, I mean, if, you know, if you, if anyone is listening, knows anyone, you know, help JPL, you know, I would love to be in that kind of industry and really work hard. But for me, Arsenal is everything. Absolutely love Arsenal.
00:08:41
Speaker
That was Jamie Patterson there, one of the OGs and one of the very best of us as well, who's also hosted a couple of the episodes himself. So we always got a bitch, do a big shout out to thank Jamie. He's such a wonderful member of the Daily Arsenal team. There's four more to go, but it wouldn't be the Daily Arsenal podcast without a quick word from our partners at the fantastic, the really, really high quality Zencaster.

And next up is The Last of Us, who is a true original, has been here from the very beginning, and he is a very knowledgeable, very entertaining, very funny guy, who also hosts occasionally and guest stars on another brilliant podcast, Bull Talk. It is Noah Jones.

Noah Jones' Family and Match Experiences

00:10:07
Speaker
Yes, people, how are we? No, we're here. And Josh has asked me to send in a little voice note and tell you about my arsenal history. Starts off very funny for arsenal fans. My granddad is a Tottenham fan ah about age nine. My dad came home from school and said, oh, dad, I support arsenal now. Granddad was devastated. Dad didn't care. And here we are today. um It kind of led from there where my neighbor and Godfather was an arsenal fan to an arsenal.
00:10:35
Speaker
Season tick holder, actually. So every birthday, every Christmas, every special event, he used to buy us Arsenal tickets and I would go with him. Always, always loved going to see the Arsenal. As all of you fans will know, it's been quite tough over the past couple of years, but we're getting there now, um going to the Champions League game in December and the Forest game in a couple of weeks as well. So both tough features, but very looking forward to going to the stadium. I love being in the atmosphere. Favourite player growing up, look,
00:11:04
Speaker
It's obviously Tiara and Marie. If you're an Arsenal fan watching this, I don't know how it isn't Tiara and Marie, but everyone's going to say that. So, as a centre midfielder myself, I'm going to go with the main man, Patrick Vieira. I've always loved a marauding unit in the centre of the midfield. Declan Rice these days. Yoyo Torre back in the day, and obviously Vieira. Just controlled that midfield. Far, strong, tall, strike, explosive. ah What a player but also special shout out to Theo Wolcott. Yeah, I said it Theo Wolcott as we were kids We all wanted to be the fastest player there was and that man was electric. I love the Arsenal. I love the po love ah pod Love all you lot for listening. So thank you very much and I'll speak to you soon on the pod later
00:11:57
Speaker
is
00:12:03
Speaker
Theo Walcott. Yeah, I said it. Theo Walcott. As we were kids, we all wanted to be the fastest player there was. And that man was electric. I love the Arsenal. I love the pod. I love all you lot for listening. So thank you very much. And I'll speak to you soon on the pod laters. That was a course. Noah Jones, one of the OGs and one of our absolute favorites. We love Noah.
00:12:27
Speaker
It's always good to have him on the pod when he's available. And next up, it is one of our newer members. He's been around now for about a month and a half. I'm sure you've heard him on some of the podcasts. He is tremendous fun. He's been such a brilliant addition to the Daily Arsenal Podcast team. He is, of course, the one, the only, it's Rodney Gooden.
00:12:51
Speaker
Hey guys, it's your boy Rodney, part of the Arsenal pod, and let me tell you how I became a guna. So, first and foremost bit of family tradition, I come from a long line of Arsenal supporters. My brother used to play for the youth team and also used to be a scout for the club back in the day, so naturally the whole family just followed soon and then yeah, yeah, supporting Arsenal was just sort of in the blood for a little while.
00:13:10
Speaker
So I started watching the games and enjoying those, but it wasn't until I came across a certain chocolate treat that my arsenal love was solidified. I don't know if you guys remember the Power Pods back in the day. For those who don't know, they were like these little chocolate globes shaped like footballs. And when you opened them like an Easter egg, they'd be like something inside and usually as a football figurine. First one I got to get to school. Ooh, O2 Tierry.
00:13:34
Speaker
ah oh to tione re and let me tell you there were battles in that classroom I'll trade you. I'll trade you me protecting it but At that time, I wasn't watching as much football as I should have been, but all of that kerfuffle and hurrah, yeah, yeah, that got me into the games very quick and I started watching at that time and was the Invincible Zero footy. So naturally, I became smitten. So when it comes down to my favorite Arsenal players, you'll hear me with a lot of nostalgia for the Invincible Zero. I love the Dennis Burghamster, Freddie Lundbergs, the Robert Perezes, and of course, my boy Thierry Henry, my absolute favorite Arsenal player in history, the one that truly made me a fan of the club and a fan of the sport. So again, I've got a lot of love for the Invincible Zera and I've been a staunch gooner ever since. I've worked at the Emirates as a tour guide in the past as well. I watch all the games. I just absolutely love the club to death and that is why I'm here at GSPN. As for how I joined GSPN, well, I'm a voice actor and podcast host in my spare time anyway. So when I saw the opportunity to combine another passion into my main one,
00:14:40
Speaker
yeah you best you best believe that that application was sent off very quickly and then of course the rest is history so here i am talking about football as a passion as a living and i'm just glad that people are enjoying it and i'm glad that i'm part of a wonderful team with amazing members and it's just a very very large amount of fun that i'm having here so yeah thank you guys for listening and enjoy That was Rodney there, always so much fun to hear from him. He's such a great egg and we really hope you're enjoying him as part of the team. And there is another member that we have to bring you, a brand new member of the Daily Arsenal Podcast, one who'll be coming to you in the next couple of weeks joining us in some episodes. So I'm very, very pleased to welcome and announce the first time onto the Daily Arsenal Podcast, our very own Matt.

Matt's Late Football Introduction and Admiration

00:15:31
Speaker
Hello I'm Matt and I thought I'd just tell you a bit about myself for today's special episode so for starters obviously being an Arsenal fan so I got into Arsenal honestly in quite an unconventional way I've gotten to football quite late and I think the outside influence as well as just watching Arsenal TV something really clicked I remember one match of the day it might have been a game against Blackburn or someone along those lines I remember just some of the goals and some of the football ones instantly was kind of the point where I was like It's been a while since I've gotten to football and this is where I'm going to start. ah So in terms of the yeah favourite player, or my favourite player ever, is Santi Kudourla, my favourite Arsenal player, my favourite general player. I think just everything he stands for as a person, as a human, his ability to recover from setbacks, you know, nearly losing his leg. And he just comes across such a great guy as a footballer alone.
00:16:26
Speaker
the way he plays football is so admirable and it's one of my favourite type of profiles, you know, like two footed, really clever, really incisive, so good on the ball, small but can hold his own incredibly well. That city performance always reminds me a lot. And yeah, so great to be part of the team and I've joined the team to this great to really talk about Arsenal and to be part of a great group.
00:16:52
Speaker
That was Matt there and we are all really looking forward to getting to know him. He sounds like a great guy and we can't wait to get him on some of the

Josh Vince's Arsenal Fan Story

00:17:00
Speaker
podcasts. The only person left in that case to talk to you from the Daily Arsenal podcast is myself.
00:17:07
Speaker
I mean hopefully you know me by now. My name's Josh Vince. I've been an Arsenal fan pretty much since I got into football. I got into football a little bit late. I got into it about nine years old. I'm a 95 baby so nine years old was the 2004 season. um I heard as I was getting into football and understanding the rules around it that there was this team who were invincible who weren't beaten in a season. I thought to myself my dad likes Liverpool But this team, they sound good. They sound real good. And so, I mean, many people would say I jumped on the bandwagon and I became a full fledged glory supporter. And you know what? I'm not ashamed because I think ultimately most people are glory hunters.
00:17:53
Speaker
and i've stuck with them because in the last 20 years it's not been the easiest ride but i love this team so much they bring me so much joy even when we're losing it's just there's something so tribal and special about it i mean my dad did threaten to lock me in the shed when i told him but um i think my mum told me to get a little bit of a grip and to calm himself down In terms of my life into ah regarding football and things like that, I was doing commentary for about a year and a half ah before I got involved with the podcast. I'm looking to pick that up again soon. I was doing it for a company which showed um it did audio.
00:18:34
Speaker
ah commentary for Premier League games, Champions League games, did some Afcon, I did the Asian Cup, I did some Champions League, I did some Euros games as well. So I've done quite a lot of commentary online, audio commentary, which sort of is a really good challenge. And I just fell in love with being involved in sports media. And then I saw the advert for the Global Sports Podcast Network and I couldn't say no.
00:18:59
Speaker
and you know sent off my audition tape and thankfully they liked me and I've been around ever since. We've been around since the very beginning of the Global Sports Podcast Network and we hope you're all enjoying it. In terms of my favorite player, a lot of people would say Omri, I loved Omri of course, a lot of people I would, I'm very tempted to say Santi Cozola because I was listening to all the other guys talking. They say he's sort of a rogue choice. I don't think he is. I think he's one of the most graceful footballers I've had, rather the joy of watching. But...
00:19:33
Speaker
I have an unnatural admiration for one Olivier Giroux. I think he's so horrifically underrated and he brought me so much joy watching him over the years. So I'm going to say my favorite Arsenal player is Olivier Giroux and I'm not ashamed about it. I'm very proud to say that.

Thank You and Encouragement to Share

00:19:53
Speaker
Anyway, we we really hope you've enjoyed this special edition of the Daily Arsenal podcast, getting to know the whole team.
