Introduction & Transfer Excitement

00:00:11
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yes, it is the Daily Newcastle part of the Global Sports Podcast Network. My name is Ian Mackay. I'm here on Wednesday tea time for your Thursday morning podcast.
00:00:24
Global Sports Podcast Network
I'm joined by Joanne. Hello, Joanne. How are you? Are you having a good day?
00:00:29
Jo
I am having a good day, Ian. And I'm very happy at the minute because of all the transfer news anyway. I don't care what anyone else says. I'm on a bit of cloud nine. Whether it's going to happen or not, I'm right up there.
00:00:39
Global Sports Podcast Network
Well, we will get into that. um and And I do think that there's lots and lots of positives for Newcastle and our ambition, whatever the outcome of this current little hoo-ha that's going on at the moment.

Liverpool's Pursuit of Isak

00:00:54
Global Sports Podcast Network
um I know we've probably got to dive straight in and talk about what potentially would be the biggest British transfer ever if Liverpool do, in fact, make a bid for...
00:01:07
Global Sports Podcast Network
um Alexander Izak. Through Through yesterday, and i think I think you mentioned it last night, we did make an opening bid for Eketike.
00:01:07
Jo
Mm-hmm.
00:01:19
Global Sports Podcast Network
And I think that bid was for £70 million. pounds um And it was rejected.
00:01:27
Jo
Yeah.
00:01:28
Global Sports Podcast Network
Liverpool then apparently sanded out. And I was hearing that because Eddie Howe, who's handling most of the transfer work for Newcastle, is actually really well-respected and well-liked, and and it's mutual by the two guys behind the scenes at Liverpool, because they were his director of football when he was at Bournemouth, and I think that he knew them when he was playing at Portsmouth.
00:01:54
Jo
Yep.
00:01:57
Global Sports Podcast Network
So they go back a long way. So Liverpool didn't just slap a massive bid in for Alexander Isaac. They sort of sidled up to us gently and whispered in our ear, we were going to make a yeah but going to make a British record offer for your Alexander Isaac fella, would he be available for sale?

Newcastle's Response & Eketike Alternative

00:02:17
Global Sports Podcast Network
um I don't know. the The Newcastle thought that was going to unsettle Isaac. I mean, Isaac must be living in a bubble if he doesn't know that he's a
00:02:25
Global Sports Podcast Network
one of the most sought after striking properties in global football. And Newcastle gave a resounding, no, he's not for sale. Leave him alone.
00:02:25
Jo
Oh, no.
00:02:37
Global Sports Podcast Network
And that's where that's what that's where we were, I think, as I went off to sleep yesterday.
00:02:41
Jo
Pretty much. Yep.
00:02:43
Global Sports Podcast Network
um what do you think about that Liverpool coming back at us, saying, hmm... If Alexander Isaac's not available for a British record fee, we're going to join in the Eketike race and we'll take him instead.
00:02:59
Jo
yeah
00:03:00
Global Sports Podcast Network
And kind of like some bully in a playground, really.
00:03:03
Jo
I was literally about to say schoolboy bully. So yeah, you've just took the words out my mouth, Ian, but it's I had a laugh, man, and I think we've had a laugh about it in the group chat, haven't we, about the fact that they literally should have just said, well, if we can't have Isaac, we'll take a ticket just to annoy you. It was like almost that kind of like weird.
00:03:21
Jo
bitchy kind of response wasn't it but you know let let let them go man let them do that if that's what they want to do i'm i'm just happy that we're in for these people that were up for a bit of a fight with it and then yeah we need to keep easy i think it's a resounding kind of response from any newcastle fan on that side
00:03:24
Global Sports Podcast Network
I mean
00:03:37
Global Sports Podcast Network
and think
00:03:39
Global Sports Podcast Network
think we need to, and I think we will.
00:03:42
Global Sports Podcast Network
um I think, and and the talk sport of this world, we're kind of suggesting that... Liverpool were flexing our muscles and we're in a great position of strength for some reason because their tactic, correct me if I'm wrong, their tactic is, I mean, Eketike will know that he's not Liverpool's first choice to be a striker.
00:03:42
Jo
hurt
00:04:10
Global Sports Podcast Network
They want Isaac.
00:04:11
Jo
Mm-hmm.
00:04:12
Global Sports Podcast Network
Well, if he can't have Isaac, we're going to put up with this other young lad who is, what's his name again? um That's what it's like.
00:04:19
Global Sports Podcast Network
Whereas I think when we have spoken to Eketike, m we've told him he's our main target. We want him.
00:04:19
Jo
It is.
00:04:27
Global Sports Podcast Network
We want him to come and play it alongside Isaac and have a forward line that would be hard to be rivalled even by even by your PSGs and Real Madrid's of this world, to be fair.
00:04:27
Jo
Yeah.
00:04:29
Jo
Make him feel special.
00:04:40
Jo
Yeah. Mm-hmm.
00:04:41
Global Sports Podcast Network
and So I don't see how that puts Liverpool really in a position of strength. um I think we hold the Isaac card and we don't stack that

Eketike Transfer Developments

00:04:51
Global Sports Podcast Network
in. We're just going you know, but we're going for Reketike.
00:04:55
Global Sports Podcast Network
Now, what I really like today is that, ah as reported later on this afternoon by um um
00:05:03
Global Sports Podcast Network
our mutual source, we're fanboy and fangirl for a wonderful mattie on the on the the Magpie channel. m
00:05:14
Global Sports Podcast Network
We've gone in with 100 million euro follow-up bid, which is the release clause.
00:05:18
Jo
Erika Endrijonas
00:05:23
Global Sports Podcast Network
At the same time as that the same time as that, Sky Germany, I believe, quoting BILT, which is the main newspaper in Germany, have said that contract length and wages are all agreed with Hugo Eketike.
00:05:42
Global Sports Podcast Network
And in my head, this is why I'm wondering whether I've got to come back later on with an update tomorrow morning. Because if we've met the release clause and Eketike wants to come and has agreed his contract terms, is that not a deal?
00:05:57
Global Sports Podcast Network
Before Liverpool can wet their whistle, before Chelsea even get off the plane coming back from America to try and dive in and steal anything.
00:05:58
Jo
you'd think so
00:06:03
Jo
i was going to say don't let them know about any of these rumours they'll be straight in for it won't they but um it is a strange one isn't it because again it's it's more they are still rumours there's nothing kind of solid about it there's lot reports asked all that thing from Build as well about the fact that we've met the release clause. If that's happened, then unbelievable. Again, it puts kind of into force what I was talking about earlier, that we're really up for a fight. We're going after the people that we want and we're going to actually make a real effort instead of just making it kind of half-arse, to put it lightly.
00:06:32
Jo
um And if he really wants to come to us, which I've read as well, again, all he I say, I appreciate. But it's pretty exciting, man. The the thought of him coming and the thought of us, again, saying, get your hands off, Izak,
00:06:46
Jo
What would be unbelievable and the perfect scenario right here is we kind of secure Eketike as quickly as possible and then almost immediately slap it on the table in terms of getting Izak signed into a massive contract, him accepting it and just putting to bed this within the next few days.
00:07:01
Jo
I don't know if it'll happen because it's almost like, i don't know. Let's not be too Newcastle about it. Let's get this done quickly. Oh, I don't know.
00:07:08
Global Sports Podcast Network
I think it's ah it's amazing that they're away on their training camp in Austria um because it's so handy for Antark Frankfurt in Germany and Eckert TK and his representatives in Germany.
00:07:15
Jo
Mm-hmm.
00:07:21
Jo
Mm-hmm.
00:07:24
Global Sports Podcast Network
um
00:07:25
Global Sports Podcast Network
They can just sort of like flip backwards and forwards, really. And I think they have done. I think that's right why they they're reporting that let's terms can get agreed, etc.
00:07:25
Jo
Just across the border.
00:07:33
Jo
Yeah.
00:07:36
Global Sports Podcast Network
So... um What I really like about it, though, whether he signs or not, is that Newcastle's response to the playground bully yesterday was effectively to take a swing at them and push them at least back a little bit and push on with what they wanted to do anyway.
00:07:46
Jo
Mm-hmm.
00:07:52
Jo
yep
00:07:54
Global Sports Podcast Network
So we're not that bothered about the threat from Liverpool telling us that if they're not going to sell them Isaac, they're going to come after Eketike. I'm hoping that's because we already know that Eketike wants to come from Newcastle. Now, it is reported in Germany.
00:08:07
Global Sports Podcast Network
that he said this summer it's Newcastle or nowhere. He's happy to stay at Eintracht Frankfurt for another year, apparently. Although I know he wants to come. He said he wants to come to the Premier League.
00:08:17
Jo
yeah
00:08:17
Global Sports Podcast Network
And ah do believe that three years ago, wasn't an idle wish that we'd signed Eketike.

Newcastle's Transfer Strategy & Budget

00:08:26
Global Sports Podcast Network
He's been on Eddie Howe's radar for many years.
00:08:29
Global Sports Podcast Network
And he was ah he was coming. I've seen the quotes from him saying, when I was... I said I was going to go to Newcastle. I was. I fully bought into that project. It was really exciting. But obviously he's a French lad and he gets asked on the last day of the window if he wants to go and play with Messi and Mbappe at Paris Saint-Germain.
00:08:41
Jo
Yeah.
00:08:45
Jo
Come on. I know.
00:08:50
Global Sports Podcast Network
I don't blame the lad for going there, even though it didn't work out for him.
00:08:54
Global Sports Podcast Network
I don't blame him for a that year where he trained with them all.
00:08:54
Jo
Yeah.
00:08:57
Jo
Yeah.
00:08:57
Global Sports Podcast Network
and I think he did get 11 or 12 games during that season.
00:09:01
Jo
Yeah.
00:09:02
Global Sports Podcast Network
And obviously that wasn't what he wanted. That's why he moved on to Frankfurt. and So, yeah, so I'm, ah if you believe everything you hear, I'm very excited. And I think it's not finished for today.
00:09:15
Global Sports Podcast Network
As we talk, it's six o'clock just about. m Still a few more hours where where things can unfold.
00:09:20
Jo
What more could happen, yeah.
00:09:22
Global Sports Podcast Network
And I think we are reportedly pressing urgently for it because I know we want to get it all signed up before ah Liverpool, Chelsea or anybody else have had a chance to get organised and come after him.
00:09:35
Jo
Yeah.
00:09:36
Global Sports Podcast Network
So fingers crossed. Fingers crossed.
00:09:39
Global Sports Podcast Network
Let's hope it's not just all invented though by Eckert TK's agent to try and get the full price fur um full price for for Frankfurt and Liverpool to get interested in coming to Bayern.
00:09:39
Jo
don't know.
00:09:46
Jo
Yeah. Of course.
00:09:55
Global Sports Podcast Network
Because that's a hell of a that is a hell of ah of brinkmanship if that's really what's going on.
00:09:55
Jo
True.
00:10:01
Jo
It's a big game to play, isn't it?
00:10:01
Global Sports Podcast Network
But time will tell.
00:10:02
Jo
But let's get real. They will play games, Ian, at the end of the day. the The agent's going to get what he wants to get out of it. um The player needs to get what he wants out of it. And obviously, again, the club that's selling need to get what they want out of it. So there's all those factors to take into account. But going back to what you said about Eke-Tike three years ago, I'm not going to lie. I wasn't happy with them at all when we kind of got dumped at the last second.
00:10:24
Jo
But if I'm honest, when you look back three years ago to where we are now, I wasn't happy at the time because I think three years ago we were desperately needing more quality players in at that exact moment. You know what i mean?
00:10:33
Global Sports Podcast Network
Right.
00:10:34
Jo
Now we're a lot more settled, a lot more established. We've won a trophy. woo um We've been the Champions League twice. It's a very different and more developed project that we're actually on. Yes, there's still a lot more to come and yes, but we're on the uphill climb with it.
00:10:48
Jo
um So I think it was more that we were so desperate to get him and he turned us down. i think the anger towards him kind of resonated from there. But if you want to think seriously about it, you like you said, he was 19, man.
00:10:59
Jo
PSG come in for you with Messi in that. Who's turning that down? Come on. Not many footballers are going to turn that down, even though, like you say, it ended up failing for him. But really in the grand scheme, he was a teenager and got to play with some of his idols at the top French club. And he's French. It's just, if people want to think straight about it, it was almost a given that he was going to go.
00:11:19
Jo
So look, fair play at the kid. But it's he's moved on and now he'll come to us.
00:11:22
Global Sports Podcast Network
A really good year for him, whether he played on the pitch or not, was he trained with him all of the time.
00:11:27
Global Sports Podcast Network
He ate with him. He travelled with him. He chatted with him.
00:11:27
Jo
Exactly.
00:11:30
Global Sports Podcast Network
yeah You know, what a fantastic development year that was for him.
00:11:31
Jo
Yeah.
00:11:32
Jo
Got to hang out with some heroes for a year. Exactly. Exactly.
00:11:34
Global Sports Podcast Network
Absolutely. Absolutely. Now, what I would like to do. Oh, there it is. I found the cursor on my computer. I'm going to click Bionique.
00:11:42
Global Sports Podcast Network
Let's have a word from our sponsors.
00:11:43
Jo
This is
00:12:25
Global Sports Podcast Network
good work ken he never gets that wrong does he word for word every time perfect um so we offered 70 we've ended up offering 85 86 on the same day that i hear sean longstaff has flown away from the austria training camp to have a medical at leeds because we have agreed
00:12:29
Jo
Perfect.
00:12:38
Jo
Yeah.
00:12:46
Jo
Yeah.
00:12:47
Global Sports Podcast Network
a 13 million plus 2, was it? 12 million plus 3 add-ons?
00:12:51
Jo
I think it's up to 15. It was one of the two, yeah.
00:12:54
Global Sports Podcast Network
it's Is it a coincidence that he's going for 15 and we can find another 15 to add on to what we but we had to be able to go after Eketike?
00:12:54
Jo
It's 15, isn't it?
00:13:04
Global Sports Podcast Network
i It made me think. If we needed to do that, to put all of our pot together, hit the release clause and get Eketike,
00:13:17
Global Sports Podcast Network
That must mean that we have to do raise further funds in order to address some of the other holes in the squad which we have. Now, let's just say ah that's James Trafford, who's going to cost 35 million.
00:13:35
Global Sports Podcast Network
If we go for him, I don't think it's essential, to be honest, but there you go. If we've sold Longstaff, we must need another midfielder, or do we? If we're playing 4-4-2, then maybe we don't.
00:13:48
Global Sports Podcast Network
But we definitely need one centre-half. And if it's that Scalavini guy or Gahey, they're going to be around £50 million. So that looks like we've got close on another £100 million to spend, at least, in this transfer window.
00:14:05
Global Sports Podcast Network
Where are we raising that from within our squad?
00:14:09
Global Sports Podcast Network
Because remember, whoever you sell takes a squad member out that should also be replaced, unless we've got somebody... who could step in from the youth team.
00:14:09
Jo
Well...
00:14:19
Jo
I know what you're saying, but technically, at the beginning end of the window, we apparently had £175 million to spend. This was without selling anyone. So I know what you're saying about long stuff. And by the way, I'm happy for long stuff. I know there's been a lot of kind up in the air and different opinions on long stuff leaving, but if I'm just going go person to person here...
00:14:37
Jo
I've got a lot of respect for Longstaff for what he's done. His time has served at our place. Brilliant. But he's still got a lot to offer. So, by the way, i am so happy for him moving on and so happy for him getting the move personally as well.
00:14:48
Jo
Look, we've got a few million off it. He could waited until next season and left on the free and we would have got nothing. and So, to me, I'm i'm happy for him. But, by the by, on that one, um yes, I would say bring another midfielder in.
00:14:56
Global Sports Podcast Network
Thank you.
00:15:01
Jo
We've been linked with the likes of Conor Gallagher and stuff. I think he'd be a great signing personally. um But really, have we not already got some money still, regardless of having to sell anyone? Where's this $175? Because we haven't spent that much yet.
00:15:13
Jo
Even if we bring a negative ticket, we still haven't spent that much. So we've still got some left over, whether that's to buy in s Scalvini, who I'd rather buy, by the way, than Trafford, if it literally had to be one or the other, because you've made the point right there.
00:15:26
Jo
Are we really desperate for Trafford right now? Or is the Trafford thing just something that's running on and on and on because these personal terms have been agreed? But to me, it's either get it done or forget about Because it seems to have gone quite quiet at the minute as well, the Trafford one as well.
00:15:40
Global Sports Podcast Network
Well, part of the part of the nonsense that I spouted when I was talking to Michael on a pod last week was that and perhaps the Trafford deal is one that we'll just let go stale and fail.
00:15:57
Global Sports Podcast Network
this window because we want to keep our cash for other areas of the squad because to be fair in Pope and Dubravka we've got two Premier League goalkeepers who did very well last year between them they're still Premier League standard and if Burnley do go down i mean you know you could put Superman and go I think we'll still get relegated next year Trafford would be a lot cheaper in 12 months time when you're buying them from a relegated
00:16:07
Jo
We have.
00:16:11
Jo
who
00:16:13
Jo
Yep.
00:16:25
Global Sports Podcast Network
so of ah championship side has just been relegated so you know was that insight or just nonsense time will tell on that one as well but I think that might be why the Trafford one hasn't finished because I think we might have just thought let's shelve this we definitely need a centre half um
00:16:26
Jo
Yep.
00:16:29
Jo
Mm hmm.
00:16:41
Jo
Yeah.
00:16:44
Jo
Mm-hmm.
00:16:46
Global Sports Podcast Network
so i still think there'll be we need to upgrade the squad though I think Willick might be hanging on by a thread and
00:16:52
Jo
We do. Yeah. Agreed.
00:16:56
Global Sports Podcast Network
Because if we sell Willock as well as Longstuff, then we definitely need to find a decent midfielder.
00:17:02
Jo
What do you think the Conor Gallagher link?
00:17:02
Global Sports Podcast Network
It takes us down to four.
00:17:04
Jo
Ian, what do you think of that?
00:17:05
Global Sports Podcast Network
I quite liked it. Yeah, I quite liked it. I remembered him... Oh, hang on a second.
00:17:11
Jo
Mm-hmm.
00:17:13
Global Sports Podcast Network
to Excuse me. That's never happened before, has it? m I quite liked it. Conor Gallagher was absolutely fantastic when he went out on loan and played at Crystal Palace that half season. He was brilliant.
00:17:25
Global Sports Podcast Network
um he was unspectacular and he got to be quite dull when he was put in as a holding midfielder for England. um he was good at Chelsea though. He ended up that he was, this is why i couldn't believe when they wanted to sell him because he'd been their best player that season.
00:17:43
Global Sports Podcast Network
And then he was up for grabs because he was homegrown and it was all pure profit and they could go and buy Mudrick or somebody very expensive. Um,
00:17:43
Jo
Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm.
00:17:54
Global Sports Podcast Network
So I was surprised when they let him go. i think he's done ah he's he's been at Atletico, hasn't he?
00:18:00
Global Sports Podcast Network
Like where where Trips was.
00:18:00
Jo
Yeah.
00:18:02
Global Sports Podcast Network
He's done a couple of years there.
00:18:03
Jo
Yep.
00:18:04
Jo
Mm-hmm.
00:18:04
Global Sports Podcast Network
he's got the um He's got that experience to bring

Strategic Signings & Squad Strengthening

00:18:10
Global Sports Podcast Network
back to the Premier League. I think he'd be a great buyer. The price I saw, quote, was around about 25 mil.
00:18:16
Jo
Yeah.
00:18:16
Global Sports Podcast Network
That seems cheap for him. But certainly, what what ah but a squad player if if we could get someone like Connor Gallagher
00:18:23
Jo
Absolutely.
00:18:24
Global Sports Podcast Network
um at that price. and he he could certainly He could certainly... We're doing a ah double pivot in midfield so we can play four attackers.
00:18:34
Global Sports Podcast Network
Then he could stand in for either Bruno or Tonali in that midfield. um But again, that's quite interesting. What about you?
00:18:34
Jo
Yeah.
00:18:44
Global Sports Podcast Network
but about What about Scalvini for a centre-back and Gallagher for a midfielder and leave the goalkeeping situation to
00:18:44
Jo
No, I'm...
00:18:54
Jo
yeah i don't think we're desperate in the keeper situation um hence the reason i thought it was a bit mental that we were pushing and pushing or that they were demanding 40 and thinking that we were just going to go yeah course here's your 40 and whatever but we have got money to spend but again we have to be careful and spend it wisely at the same time don't we because of those wonderful psr restrictions but
00:18:55
Global Sports Podcast Network
to itself.
00:19:13
Jo
I would 100% leave the goalkeeping situation because I don't think it's a desperate need. Scalvini, as much as I know about him, I'm not going to lie. I'm not going to lie. I don't know the guy inside out. I've watched a lot of stuff on YouTube, which I suppose is all you can do at this point. But he he looks quite exciting, I'll be honest, from what I've read about him, what I've heard about him. So absolutely would be very happy about that sign if we could do that one, if that is something that's even anywhere near more than a rumour, by the way.
00:19:38
Jo
But yeah, Conor Gallagher, that sort of price as well. I'd happily take him. And I think he would happily come and fit into our Gallagher.
00:19:43
Global Sports Podcast Network
um scott
00:19:46
Jo
Sorry, I'd moved. Scalvini, yes, I would love to take. 50 million, whatever it's going to be. If the Conor Gallagher situation is, what, 20-25? i think that's a great price for a decent player that would happily fit into our squad.
00:19:57
Global Sports Podcast Network
No brainer really, isn't it? What I was going to say was, I thought s Scalvini was hobbling around on one leg because he's getting over a cruciate injury.
00:20:00
Jo
Yep.
00:20:07
Global Sports Podcast Network
But he must be fully recovered because I'm sure they were talking about Agent Tonali getting photographed with him on ah on the steps of the plane. So he's gone straight back into the Italian squad when they played those recent internationals.
00:20:07
Jo
Yep.
00:20:20
Jo
Yeah.
00:20:21
Global Sports Podcast Network
um So he must be recovered, mustn't he? I know it's always a worry when there something like that's happened.
00:20:26
Jo
You'd assume so.
00:20:28
Global Sports Podcast Network
um You don't know if there's a weakness there or or if the other one will go because he's generally got weak knees. just don't know. But I mean... Yeah, from what i hear, he's fabulous.
00:20:39
Global Sports Podcast Network
So, again, our scouts are super, aren't they, going through Europe? They seem to hone in on hidden gems, who are quite expensive, but actually turn out to be at least worth twice what they cost, like Bruno, like Isaac, like Tenali, like Botman.
00:20:44
Jo
Yeah.
00:20:47
Jo
Yeah.
00:20:58
Global Sports Podcast Network
I mean, that list should just continue. They've not missed anybody on the continent, have they? They've not missed since the takeover.
00:20:58
Jo
her
00:21:03
Jo
Oh no, they've been fantastic. And i get I do get the whole Premier League proven player, by the way.
00:21:06
Global Sports Podcast Network
Well, that...
00:21:08
Jo
I get the whole thing behind that. But I'm not 100% behind it in the sense of people should put all their eggs in one basket sort of thing. Just because a player is Premier League proven doesn't mean he's better than someone from the continent. It just is...
00:21:22
Jo
I don't know. I'm just not down for that whole kind of feeling. Do you know what I mean, though? Because people will be like, oh, yeah, but you've got such and such and such.
00:21:27
Global Sports Podcast Network
ah alert
00:21:29
Jo
And this guy, he's Premier League proven, though. It doesn't mean because you've played in the Premier League, it makes you that much better. Yes, all right, you understand the league and you understand the speed of it and just everything around it. But it doesn't actually mean you're a better player.
00:21:42
Jo
So i i'm i kind of I am split on the whole Premier League proven thing and paying more for a player because he's Premier League proven, if you know what i mean.
00:21:49
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, i think ah think if he's Premier League proven, it's never going to be bad.
00:21:51
Jo
one
00:21:54
Global Sports Podcast Network
But I do think our research is extensive enough to be asking those sort questions

Scouting Success & Zencastr Mention

00:22:00
Global Sports Podcast Network
and not to be falling into that trap.
00:22:00
Jo
Yeah.
00:22:03
Jo
That's all me and you.
00:22:04
Global Sports Podcast Network
You know, with a with sir a little run in and the testing, that Bruno and Tonali and Botman undertook. They were Premier League ready after six or eight games.
00:22:20
Global Sports Podcast Network
That's just, you know, that's just sensible to be able to sort of ease them into the situation once they get to know their teammates, etc.
00:22:28
Global Sports Podcast Network
um Yeah, so I don't know if that premium is is worth paying. Certainly not if Gaye was £70 million and we can get somebody who's better than he is for 50 this year that just show how much we're we're losing and i'm going to pause there and while you're reading the zencast for advert joanne i'm going to try and work out what we can possibly talk about in part three
00:22:28
Jo
Yep.
00:22:39
Jo
My point exactly. Yeah, that's what i mean by that. Yep.
00:22:51
Jo
All right, then. um Here at Global Sports Podcast Network, we spent a lot of time selecting our delivery platform. Zencaster came out with the clear winner. 00:23:16
Global Sports Podcast Network
and Dabby Dozy um I see this afternoon by the way just as an aside in the transfer window that Chelsea who do actually have a half decent goalkeeper on their books um have actually sold him to Bournemouth Petrovic has gone to Bournemouth for £25 million
00:23:28
Jo
who
00:23:34
Jo
Oh, I didn't see that.
00:23:37
Global Sports Podcast Network
probably Probably about the right price if that is sort of just behind where James Trafford is, I think. They've got a good price there, though. Chelsea are phenomenal at getting good prices in for their players they don't want anymore.
00:23:48
Jo
Yeah.
00:23:50
Global Sports Podcast Network
£50 million for Madweke. That's how they can spend so much.
00:23:54
Global Sports Podcast Network
They'll probably start another fund, which they hope is filled by the time they get off the plane, to go and get Eketike. But hopefully we'll have moved fast enough for that.
00:23:54
Jo
It's true.
00:24:01
Jo
Don't say that. True.
00:24:03
Global Sports Podcast Network
Right, part three. The boys are... in Austria on their pre-season camp.
00:24:09
Jo
They are.
00:24:12
Global Sports Podcast Network
Anthony Alanga's over there. I've seen a few clips.
00:24:17
Global Sports Podcast Network
it's By the way, they call it warm weather training. Has it got to be much warmer in Austria than it is over here? mean, they should have stayed in Newcastle.
00:24:17
Jo
Yeah.
00:24:25
Jo
Especially for how hot it is at the minute here.
00:24:25
Global Sports Podcast Network
It's been 30 degrees for a month.
00:24:27
Jo
and know.
00:24:27
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:24:28
Jo
It's boiling. But yeah, it's alright. It gets them out of the same old routine, you know. You've got to feel sorry for them, you know, having to see poor old Newcastle all the time, you know. These rich boys, they need to get off and see some beautiful

Pre-season Preparations & Fan Engagement

00:24:40
Jo
sights.
00:24:40
Jo
It's
00:24:41
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah Innsbruck I think is near where they are Um Maybe there's some Maybe there's some altitude as well there If it's if it's in the Alps Who knows Have you seen any of the pictures Have you seen how relaxed the boys look Have you seen Bruno and Trips Playing a crossbo crossbar Challenge
00:24:44
Jo
gorgeous from the looks of the pictures, mind.
00:24:49
Jo
Maybe. Maybe, yeah.
00:24:56
Jo
Yeah. They're looking good.
00:25:01
Jo
watched that today, yeah.
00:25:03
Global Sports Podcast Network
They don't seem stressed out about Very much do they Um
00:25:06
Jo
But that's the whole point, I guess, behind these things, isn't it?
00:25:07
Global Sports Podcast Network
And
00:25:09
Jo
It's like a team bonding type of session more so than anything else, isn't it, really?
00:25:12
Global Sports Podcast Network
yeah, which is great, which is great.
00:25:14
Global Sports Podcast Network
And of course, the reason they're there is that they fly back for this weekend.
00:25:15
Jo
Mm-hmm.
00:25:21
Jo
who
00:25:21
Global Sports Podcast Network
10,000 bonkers Geordie's, not me included, unfortunately, because it's an away game.
00:25:24
Jo
No, I wouldn't mind going to that one, but yeah.
00:25:25
Global Sports Podcast Network
and yeah and you And you have to be, yeah you have to have had a granddad who had a season ticket, I think, to be able to qualify with enough points to get to it.
00:25:32
Jo
Yeah, true.
00:25:34
Global Sports Podcast Network
Tickets for away games. um 10,000 of them going up for ah ah friendly at Celtic. Now, that friendly at Rangers two years ago was the first time we got to see Tonali play.
00:25:51
Global Sports Podcast Network
And he was brilliant, actually. um
00:25:54
Jo
oh
00:25:55
Global Sports Podcast Network
Who do you think we're going to see playing at Celtic? Do you think Alanga will be ready?
00:26:01
Jo
they can give him some minutes right he's got to be fitness wise he's done as much training as the rest them right pretty much wouldn't say he's he kept himself in shape he looks like he has over the summer so in terms of that it's just a friendly can give him some minutes you can him half maybe yeah yeah
00:26:08
Global Sports Podcast Network
m
00:26:16
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, I think we will. I think we will. i think that might be I think it might be like when i mean we had a behind-closed-doors game against Carlisle, which we won 4-0. And they that was two separate teams, like they do for the and the two Seller Cup matches, when it was two Seller Cup matches.
00:26:30
Jo
Mm-hmm. Yep.
00:26:34
Global Sports Podcast Network
It's only one this year. Yeah. but two completely separate teams for each half, which I guess got got everybody a half of football.
00:26:39
Jo
Yep.
00:26:42
Global Sports Podcast Network
So, um and Lange didn't play in that. So I reckon we'll get he'll get his half of football.
00:26:47
Jo
No.
00:26:49
Global Sports Podcast Network
And a lot of those first teamers um will will probably be playing a lot more, 60 minutes, 65, 70.
00:26:52
Jo
Mm-hmm.
00:26:59
Global Sports Podcast Network
and The internationals didn't play in that game. Carlisle game, i don't think, those that were away on international duty.
00:27:07
Jo
Yeah.
00:27:07
Global Sports Podcast Network
So we should see Anthony Gordon, Tina Livramento, Alexander Izak start getting some minutes.
00:27:16
Jo
ye
00:27:16
Global Sports Podcast Network
um Now, I don't know whether you've seen or not. It might be. it's They're missing a trick if it's not. Is this televised on the Newcastle website? Can we watch it?
00:27:28
Jo
All I know is, um so season ticket holders, mags plus members, etc, etc, have got access to it for a cost. So the mags, the cheapest price is the £9.99, which I believe, someone will probably put me right here, is for season ticket holders and mag plus members.
00:27:44
Jo
Or if you're a normal mags member, it's £19.99 or something. And then there's something else where you pay £29.99. Anyway, all matches... um are covered. So you've got the Celtic match, you've got the ones over in... Where is it? Tokyo? Where the heck they going again?
00:27:59
Jo
Where are they going? It's Tokyo.
00:28:00
Global Sports Podcast Network
I'm Korea and Singapore.
00:28:02
Jo
Korea. That was it. That's what I meant. So those. um The two games. So you've got the Cellar Cup game plus the Friday night game, which they're saying isn't part the Cellar Cup.
00:28:08
Global Sports Podcast Network
Okay.
00:28:11
Jo
It's just a random friendly. So that'll be interesting. So I'm going to both those matches. So it'll be interesting to see who plays... in what matches, if you know what i mean, between those two nights. um I'm going to expect a better team on the Saturday, put it that way, than I do on the on the Friday night. But hey, I'm out for a jolly on the Friday night more so than anything, so I'll not really care.
00:28:30
Jo
um It'll be fine. But yeah, i mean, there's quite a few games and they're all covered under this pass. So basically, add don ah you're a Mags Plus as well, aren't you? So we'll cover we'll come under the £9.99 banner.
00:28:43
Jo
So if you want to watch it, it's £9.99. Or if you've got a dodgy stick,
00:28:45
Global Sports Podcast Network
Am I a Mags Plus?
00:28:47
Jo
I believe you are.
00:28:47
Global Sports Podcast Network
I can't remember. I'm a Mags Plus or just Mags.
00:28:48
Jo
How much you pay for it? 47 or? What did you pay?
00:28:51
Global Sports Podcast Network
what What does a Mags member do?
00:28:55
Jo
I think Mags Plus just gets exclusive invites to certain events. You get um some discounts.
00:28:59
Global Sports Podcast Network
I'll have to look. i might have been
00:29:00
Jo
Blah, blah, blah. I think you're Mags Plus, you know.
00:29:01
Global Sports Podcast Network
um ah I might have been that last year, but I might have been tight this year and just done 37. I don't know. I've renewed it. I can't have renewed it.
00:29:08
Global Sports Podcast Network
Anyway. Anyway, even at 20...
00:29:08
Jo
No, if you renewed it, it'll just be the same one.
00:29:10
Jo
You're fine. Doesn't matter. Yeah. You can either pay that or watch on a dodgy stick.
00:29:11
Global Sports Podcast Network
even itwa even it
00:29:14
Jo
There we go.
00:29:14
Global Sports Podcast Network
a even it Even at 20 quid, if that's me sitting at home six six or seven nights watching the all of the warm-ups, then will be doing that.
00:29:19
Jo
That's decent, right?
00:29:23
Jo
Mm-hmm. Absolutely.
00:29:24
Global Sports Podcast Network
and I'm not um not up at the Cellar Cup. I've got a shop. Can't go.
00:29:29
Jo
I get that.
00:29:30
Global Sports Podcast Network
Disappointing. But anyway, we'll try and get up for that Friday night one if there's still any tickets left.
00:29:36
Global Sports Podcast Network
We'll have to see.
00:29:36
Jo
There is, so get on it.
00:29:38
Jo
Yeah. I'm going with Donna and my dad.
00:29:40
Global Sports Podcast Network
Good.
00:29:40
Jo
However, me and Donna are out from 3 p.m. on a bottomless brunch. So by the time the match starts,
00:29:46
Global Sports Podcast Network
You won't get let in.
00:29:48
Jo
Well, I have warned my dad. I was like, there's a chance that me and Donna are going to be so drunk that they might not let us in. But we're in the strawberry corner, so I reckon we'll be allowed in because everyone's absolutely smashed in the strawberry corner. So we'll be fine.
00:29:59
Jo
It's like it's at not a rite of passage if you got if you're standing there yeah
00:30:00
Global Sports Podcast Network
Excellent.
00:30:03
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yes. Yeah. I think that's right. The one or two times I've stood in there. Wimbledon with you was one of those times.
00:30:03
Jo
We'll be fine.
00:30:09
Global Sports Podcast Network
Um, Yeah, just even the fumes of people breathing out had me a little bit giddy, but I was driving, so I had walk around for half an hour before I got back in the car. That's not true.
00:30:10
Jo
Yes.
00:30:21
Global Sports Podcast Network
and Right. So, we've done a half an hour, Joanne.
00:30:26
Jo
We have.
00:30:27
Global Sports Podcast Network
we have we've managed to talk about We've managed to talk about all of that agent guff about Eketike, which isn't true.
00:30:27
Jo
I told you it all right, mum.
00:30:37
Global Sports Podcast Network
It's not true. And... and We've also looked at the, just briefly mentioned the fact that they are training because the new season is starting. Sometimes it's so it's certainly on us that they start playing every every week and because we've been so distracted by this transfer window hotting up.
00:30:52
Jo
Yeah.
00:30:58
Global Sports Podcast Network
First it was Alanga, now it's Eketike. Fingers crossed there's plenty of it left to go. Still six weeks.
00:31:03
Global Sports Podcast Network
We should have a centre-half. We should have a centre-half or two, the midfielder, and hang on to all the front line.
00:31:03
Jo
Yeah.
00:31:11
Jo
Yep.
00:31:12
Global Sports Podcast Network
fingers crossed
00:31:13
Jo
Look, I know we were panicking, weren't we? But at the end of the day, I think we've all said that once July hit and all it would take is one through the door and then it would kind of snowball from there. So let's hope we were right. We've got one through the door and at least it seems like snowballing a bit.
00:31:26
Jo
Certainly not nicer than last month where there was zero happening, but we didn't expect anything to happen last month.
00:31:27
Global Sports Podcast Network
well i i think they've showed that they've got a big bunch of cash and they're going to
00:31:30
Jo
So I'm fine.
00:31:36
Global Sports Podcast Network
they're going They're going to upgrade. they go into the next They're trying to go to the next level in terms of who they're going to bring in as a second striker.
00:31:36
Jo
Mm-hmm. That's
00:31:41
Jo
what we've got to do.
00:31:43
Global Sports Podcast Network
And that's good enough for me. Whether it's Eke Tike or we have to go for somebody else um because the playground bullies get their own way. Who knows? and It doesn't matter.
00:31:54
Global Sports Podcast Network
that's the incentive That's the intention. And that that makes me very excited.
00:31:59
Jo
yep
00:31:59
Global Sports Podcast Network
Thanks for joining us, Joanne. Thank you, everybody, for listening to us. There might be a late edition if something spectacular happens in the twilight hours. But if not, we'll be back on Friday morning.
00:32:14
Global Sports Podcast Network
And I'm sure there'll be some updates there. Thanks for listening.
00:32:19
Jo
like
