Introduction and Host Banter

00:00:11
Global Sports Podcast Network
Hello and welcome to the Daily Newcastle podcast, proud to be part of the Global Sports Podcast Network. My name is Ian Mackay. I am unexpectedly hosting tonight and I'm joined again unexpectedly by Michael Grameslaw. Hello, Michael. How are you doing?
00:00:29
Michael Grahamslaw
Yeah, I'm doing alright. I swear I said yesterday they wouldn't see me and you for a little while, but I lied.
00:00:33
Global Sports Podcast Network
No, you did ease such a fibber.
00:00:36
Michael Grahamslaw
I'm doing well. I'm...
00:00:38
Global Sports Podcast Network
Couldn't lie straight in bed. But we have got one of the OG bookings for tonight. The Ginger Ninja herself. Joanne, how are you? And how was your Ginger Ninjaring?
00:00:50
Jo
I was gonna say I'm fresh from ninja class as you might be able to tell from a very pink face because I haven't had time to have a shower so thank god you can't smell me right now. Smell-o-vision is not a thing thank god.
00:00:58
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah. me Yeah, but Zencaster zencaster is so forward-thinking, they will be introducing Smell-O-Vision very soon.
00:01:01
Michael Grahamslaw
yeah oh
00:01:02
Jo
Yet.
00:01:06
Jo
oh wonderful.
00:01:08
Michael Grahamslaw
Let's not give them any ideas.
00:01:08
Global Sports Podcast Network
It'll follow on. It'll follow on from interviewing the substituted players as they come off the field. I talk to the managers at halftime. Smell-o-vision.
00:01:18
Global Sports Podcast Network
That'll be next. and That's not what the podcast is about tonight.

Transfer Window Frustrations and Player Acquisitions

00:01:22
Jo
No.
00:01:22
Global Sports Podcast Network
i have fact I've kind of controversially sort of because we've, let's be honest, we've spent two months bemoaning how frustrating our transfer window has been.
00:01:22
Michael Grahamslaw
all
00:01:34
Global Sports Podcast Network
Seemingly rejected by more people than Children's birthday parties have rejected Jimmy Savile.
00:01:44
Michael Grahamslaw
Yep.
00:01:44
Jo
Wow.
00:01:44
Global Sports Podcast Network
and
00:01:45
Jo
I was wondering where you're gonna go in. You never disappoint.
00:01:48
Global Sports Podcast Network
but like They rejected him. They rejected him, so it was all right. yeah And it has been very, very frustrating. However, I'm asking, with three weeks to go, with three weeks to go, can we end up having a fantastic transfer window?
00:01:54
Jo
Wow.
00:02:02
Global Sports Podcast Network
and
00:02:02
Jo
yeah
00:02:03
Global Sports Podcast Network
We've already covered, obviously, the brilliant Anthony Alanga coming in to replace McGee Almiron.
00:02:08
Michael Grahamslaw
ye
00:02:08
Global Sports Podcast Network
and Aaron Ramsdale coming on looking every inch. Arsenal's number one or the England goalkeeper replacing Martin Dubravka.
00:02:16
Jo
Mm-hmm.
00:02:17
Global Sports Podcast Network
And we're excitedly waiting with breath that is bated for Malik Chow to come in and replace Lloyd Kelly. And... can't can't remember his first name's called. Yohan Wisser to come from Brentford and replace Callum Wilson. Not Cameron Wilson.
00:02:34
Global Sports Podcast Network
It was his lesser-known brother that I mentioned last night.
00:02:35
Michael Grahamslaw
and Had a cameo yesterday.
00:02:38
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yes.
00:02:38
Jo
Yeah.
00:02:39
Global Sports Podcast Network
So i think that's four massive step ups we've got in terms of the quality of the squad.
00:02:46
Jo
ye
00:02:46
Global Sports Podcast Network
Part one, the only the only missing person, if you like, from the squad that we went through last year with is caused by the sale of Sean Longstaff.
00:02:56
Global Sports Podcast Network
And I think, although there's not a lot of talk yet, um I think we need to recruit a midfield player urgently in order to plug
00:02:56
Michael Grahamslaw
Yes.
00:03:05
Jo
Mm-hmm.
00:03:06
Global Sports Podcast Network
That shortcoming. um Joe Willock's injured, of course.
00:03:11
Global Sports Podcast Network
Apparently for four to six weeks. But as i as I have made reference to before, four to six week injury for Joe Willock is generally four to six, four to six week injuries.
00:03:11
Michael Grahamslaw
As always.
00:03:24
Global Sports Podcast Network
And we'll see him sometime in March. um So we've got four fit midfielders, four very good fit midfielders, but certainly not enough. to go even into a Premier League season.
00:03:37
Global Sports Podcast Network
um I think we might need two midfielders, but we'll talk about that in part two. I'll shut up now. Do you agree we need a Sean Logstaff replacement and then we've actually got five super step-ups in terms of quality within the squad?
00:03:54
Global Sports Podcast Network
And Joanne, who've you got your eye on to come

Midfield Recruitment and Squad Depth

00:04:00
Global Sports Podcast Network
and bolster the midfield team?
00:04:00
Jo
I've mentioned it. Yeah, um I'd mentioned it in a previous pod and again, just trying to think realistically. I'd mentioned Gallagher because there was talk of him coming.
00:04:10
Jo
um I think he's someone that could fit into our squad. And again, it's someone that could come in and not be an immediate expectation on starting every game as well, if you know what i mean. So he'd be happy to kind of fit into the system and I mean, I'm assuming that.
00:04:24
Jo
and obviously not i know so much about Conor that I've been on the phone, obviously, and he he told me he's absolutely fine with his system.
00:04:25
Global Sports Podcast Network
Thank
00:04:30
Jo
um But like you say, I mean, we've got the Premier League um campaign, we've got the Champions League campaign, which we hope to do something decent in. Then you've got the Cubs, you hope you have a decent run at that. All of a sudden, you're talking about a hell of a lot of games that we need that kind of depth. So yeah, the Conor Gallagher one was the one I brought up.
00:04:46
Jo
It didn't go down too well, because I think I brought it down on a um pod with Kevin Nick. I I think they were kind of on the fence about him. And I'm not saying I love him. I'm just trying to think of someone that A, we'll have had minor little links with, who could be a realistic sign. yeah And I'd go Connor.
00:05:04
Global Sports Podcast Network
I quite like Connor Gallagher, although and i want to ask Michael what he thinks of Connor Gallagher. And I'm suspecting Michael, like me, might think that because of the way Miley is shaping up, he's far more suited to be covering um that of that holding midfield player.
00:05:16
Jo
Mm-hmm.
00:05:21
Global Sports Podcast Network
And what I think we're really sure of is is someone who can unpick the lock, if you like, on ah on a low block, is ah a number 10 almost.
00:05:21
Jo
Mm-hmm.
00:05:29
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah. But I like Conor Gallagher because I think he's so good at winning the ball back, at disrupting the opposition. When they've won the ball and they're trying to break out, he is very, very good. And and of course, that is that sort of breakdown, that chaos is where we seem to thrive when we can recover in the their final third. And the pace that we have, um I think, that up I mean, Conor Gallagher is a very good player.
00:05:56
Global Sports Podcast Network
I remember when he he was brilliant at Palace, And then he was taken back by Chelsea and he was the best player of that season.
00:05:59
Jo
Mm-hmm.
00:06:01
Global Sports Podcast Network
And then they sold him unexpectedly.
00:06:03
Michael Grahamslaw
Yeah.
00:06:03
Jo
Mm-hmm.
00:06:04
Global Sports Podcast Network
Although I guess that's their model to sell their academy players and the make the profits. That's why they can buy as many players as they do. Michael, what do you think of Conor Gallagher? Is he an option, do you think?
00:06:16
Michael Grahamslaw
Yeah, I think he's a great option. It's it's one of those where, first of all, Atletico Madrid, they would be willing to sell because he's technically a non-EU player, with Britain not being an EU country technically.
00:06:28
Michael Grahamslaw
And they also well they also have a limited number of spaces for that. So that's why he's been so heavily rumoured with leaving the club as we speak. um One of the things about Gallagher is...
00:06:40
Michael Grahamslaw
I view him more as the rotational for Joe Linton. um And we say, oh, it's so hard to replace Joe Linton. But what are the two things that Joe Linton does best? It's breaking up play as that box-to-box midfielder, making runs from midfield and getting on the end of the ball for a cross.
00:06:55
Jo
Yeah.
00:06:57
Michael Grahamslaw
Now, don't be wrong. We saw against Atletico Madrid. More often than that, that doesn't end in a goal. Um... But when you look at the the stats of Conor Gallagher, in the he's in the top 15% for goals that aren't penalties ah from midfielders.
00:07:07
Global Sports Podcast Network
Thank you.
00:07:11
Michael Grahamslaw
um He doesn't create a lot at all. I think he's in the bottom 20% in regards to midfielders who create. But then he's in the top 30% in regards to ah tackles, interceptions, blocks, the lot. So it's one of those.
00:07:25
Michael Grahamslaw
You're looking for a box-to-box. You're looking for that Joe Linton replacement. Your Joe Willick replacement as well. realistically, because we'd probably look to sell him if he was fit. I think Conor Gallagher's a great shout.
00:07:37
Michael Grahamslaw
um The player that we've been linked with today um is Bilal El Canous from Leicester City.
00:07:39
Global Sports Podcast Network
Okay.
00:07:42
Jo
good
00:07:44
Jo
yeah.
00:07:46
Michael Grahamslaw
That's popped up today. £29 million, I've seen both linked. um Attacking midfielder, a number 10, which does make me wonder... is it really something we're looking at? Because we don't play with the number 10 at all.
00:08:00
Michael Grahamslaw
Whether it's we play with the 5 at the back or the 4 at the back, it doesn't make a difference.
00:08:01
Jo
yeah.
00:08:04
Michael Grahamslaw
We don't play with the 10. But it could be something different, and he is a very good, young, creative player. So if you're looking at two centre midfielders right there, you've got your box-to-box,
00:08:15
Michael Grahamslaw
and your attacking midfielder. And as you mentioned earlier, Lewis Miley, he's turning into a brilliant little replacement.
00:08:17
Jo
Yeah.
00:08:22
Michael Grahamslaw
Well, maybe not replacement, but substitute for Sandro Tonali and Bruno Gamares.
00:08:29
Global Sports Podcast Network
I kind of dived into a second midfielder there, which I was going to keep the part too, but that's all right.
00:08:36
Jo
Mm-hmm.
00:08:36
Global Sports Podcast Network
Because he picked two good names there. The one that excites me most, although when we were talking about it earlier in the week, Michael, that we were quoting 30 million he would be available for.
00:08:47
Global Sports Podcast Network
I've seen today that's already up at 50 million.

Transfer Market Strategies and Player Fit

00:08:51
Global Sports Podcast Network
But ah Lucas Paquette, I think...
00:08:51
Michael Grahamslaw
Yes.
00:08:54
Michael Grahamslaw
Yeah.
00:08:54
Jo
yeah
00:08:56
Global Sports Podcast Network
Because £50 million is still a lot less than West Ham paid for him, I think. Certainly a lot less than Manchester City were considering paying for him 24 months ago? 12 months ago?
00:09:05
Michael Grahamslaw
Yeah, something like that.
00:09:06
Global Sports Podcast Network
Can't remember when that was. um And he is very hard-working and great defensively, as well as being a fantastic number 10. So what do you think of Paqueta?
00:09:19
Global Sports Podcast Network
And what do you think of El Canoose, Joanne? I haven't asked your opinion on him.
00:09:23
Jo
Well, Michael, nail on the head, I was going to bring up El Canoose as well, yeah. So that would be an interesting one. I'm not going to lie and say I know a lot about him, but he's about, is he 21? um Again, it's a decent price, so it's not going to break the budget, you know what i mean?
00:09:34
Michael Grahamslaw
Yeah.
00:09:34
Global Sports Podcast Network
It's young, yeah.
00:09:37
Jo
it's Again, it's it's building up the squad, which is exactly what we're talking about. So it could be perfect for that kind of role. And again, a player that will come in and not kind of demand to be the number one in in that position sort of thing.
00:09:48
Jo
um How he can fit if we don't play him as a direct number 10, I don't know. Can he adjust? ah This is where I don't know enough about him if he can kind of sit in other positions, so to speak. But if he can, fantastic.
00:10:00
Jo
If he can't, like all right Michael said, we can kind of switch things up and actually change our formation for a change. Because um that was something that we pretty much cried out for a lot, didn't work during the season. So, yeah, I mean, based on that alone, I'd be happy with it, yeah.
00:10:10
Global Sports Podcast Network
Absolutely. Mike.
00:10:10
Michael Grahamslaw
Yeah.
00:10:15
Global Sports Podcast Network
Michael, technically, how many loan players are we allowed to have?
00:10:20
Michael Grahamslaw
um I believe it's three. I might be wrong. I haven't looked into it, but I believe it's three.
00:10:25
Global Sports Podcast Network
Okay. I thought it was three.
00:10:27
Michael Grahamslaw
Long term.
00:10:30
Global Sports Podcast Network
I thought it was three. We've got a goalkeeper on loan, obviously, but that means there's two loan options as well. as what We don't necessarily have to find cash this summer if we have a loan with an option to buy.
00:10:43
Global Sports Podcast Network
um Do you think that, I mean, if if they're looking to offload Gallagher because they want to bring some other non-EU players in, maybe a loan with an option to buy would be a ah good move.
00:10:55
Global Sports Podcast Network
And also if West Ham, for some reason, wants Paqueta out because he's
00:10:55
Jo
first.
00:11:00
Global Sports Podcast Network
soured the atmosphere with his totally unproven allegations against him. um God knows how he got off that. ah But, you know, maybe maybe maybe either of those could be available on loan.
00:11:14
Michael Grahamslaw
Yeah, okay, so I've just looked it up there. You're only allowed two registered at any one point, but you're allowed four over the course of a season. So let's say we wanted to loan someone else in in January, and we loan someone in August, let's say we loan John McGinnon in two weeks' time.
00:11:24
Global Sports Podcast Network
Right.
00:11:32
Michael Grahamslaw
If we want to loan another player, we'd either have to cut the loan of John McGinnon or Ramsdale to register the other player. So two at any one time, four over a season.
00:11:39
Global Sports Podcast Network
Or buy them.
00:11:39
Jo
Ah.
00:11:41
Michael Grahamslaw
Yeah, or buy him.
00:11:41
Global Sports Podcast Network
Or buy them. Excellent.
00:11:43
Michael Grahamslaw
Yeah.
00:11:43
Jo
Yeah.
00:11:45
Global Sports Podcast Network
ah Interesting loan developments. And talking about, vote no, I'm not going to be, I can't get away with this a link as slick as the one Michael used to go into advert number one last night.
00:11:47
Jo
I like that.
00:11:53
Jo
but
00:11:54
Michael Grahamslaw
You can.
00:11:55
Global Sports Podcast Network
Although I did try. Anyway, um here's Ken.
00:12:38
Global Sports Podcast Network
These solutions we're discussing aren't off the shelf. They are just what's going to be right for Newcastle. And I'm moving on part two into additional signings which possibly aren't on the definitely needed list, but I would be much happier with them.
00:12:54
Global Sports Podcast Network
And that is to provide some cover for a second midfielder, which I'll continue with because I've got one or two other names we haven't mentioned yet. And then after that, we'll look at maybe a cover for centre-back position because I'm not totally ah confident about either Bottman and or LaSalle's bearing up through a 60-game season.
00:13:19
Global Sports Podcast Network
and So, if it's a loan or ah or a cheap purchase for a covering midfield player, two names, you just mentioned one there, they seem very, very cheap.
00:13:19
Michael Grahamslaw
yeah
00:13:29
Global Sports Podcast Network
They seem to have loads and loads of experience, Champions League experience as well. what is Why is... every why is Douglas Louise finding it so difficult to find a new home, Michael.
00:13:44
Michael Grahamslaw
I think it's it's one of those where, since he's gone to Juventus, his wages are a lot higher than many expect to expect them to be. I believe he doubled them from what he was at at Aston Villa.
00:13:55
Michael Grahamslaw
And the fact of they're still going command a fee, Juventus aren't in a position where they can say, oh, we'll take a loss for Luis. So... It started off being a rumour of £20 million, I believe, for Luiz.
00:14:07
Michael Grahamslaw
Then it went up to £30 million. Now it's like £35 million. No doubt if we go in, it'll be £50 million.
00:14:13
Jo
Yeah.
00:14:13
Michael Grahamslaw
I do like him, but I think it's one of those where Juventus really overrated his ability.
00:14:17
Global Sports Podcast Network
Thank
00:14:19
Michael Grahamslaw
They overpaid for him. They're overpaying him every week. And they did the... the sure say the nice deed of bringing in Alicia Lehman alongside.
00:14:30
Michael Grahamslaw
um I mean, she's definitely done better for them than what he has.
00:14:33
Jo
but
00:14:34
Michael Grahamslaw
um There's no doubt about that. But yeah, it's it's one of those where I definitely think he's maybe deemed as a bit more of a troublemaker on too much wages. Maybe, just maybe, it's something that Newcastle and other clubs have looked at and gone, you know what, there's better options out there for a lot less money.
00:14:51
Global Sports Podcast Network
Too many headaches. Too many headaches. Did you think of fair Louise the same way, Joanne?
00:14:54
Jo
Mm-hmm.
00:14:54
Michael Grahamslaw
Exactly.
00:14:57
Global Sports Podcast Network
I used to rate him when he was at... I mean, he was the main man in midfield for me when he was at Villa.
00:15:00
Michael Grahamslaw
Then I was good.
00:15:03
Jo
Oh, he's not a bad player at all, but I was going to mention the wages side of things, because I think there's just some people that would just won't touch with a barge pole because of the wages. um There's been many players linked to us.
00:15:11
Global Sports Podcast Network
Right.
00:15:13
Jo
I think, the' strange enough, talking about the wages thing, I think the whole Grealish to Everton thing is interesting. I don't know what kind of percentage Everton are covering, because I know Grealish is on like ridiculous. It's something like 300 grand a week or something.
00:15:25
Jo
It's City, so...
00:15:25
Michael Grahamslaw
Yeah.
00:15:26
Jo
It'd be interesting to see kind of what percentage um or whatever that they're covering of that because actually Everton are going to be paying 300 grand a week to Grealish. But again, it's things like that, isn't it? Grealish was linked to us.
00:15:39
Jo
Well, everyone's been linked to us, but you know what Grealish was and straight everyone kind of kind of shoe-shoed it, didn't they, because of the wages.
00:15:40
Michael Grahamslaw
yeah
00:15:45
Jo
And Louise, I guess, is just another one of those players. But in terms of the trouble side of things, again, nail on the head with that one because... Howe's not going to want a player like that. He's not going to want that kind of disruptive or someone that he thinks he can't knock that out of, so to speak.
00:16:01
Jo
I think you saw Gordon, for example.
00:16:02
Michael Grahamslaw
yeah
00:16:03
Jo
Gordon's a good one for me. um little bit of a role, wasn't he? Came in. I'm not going to lie again. I didn't like him when him first bought him. He had a bit of an attitude. He kicked up a stink that time against him.
00:16:14
Jo
But Howe kind of has changed him. And he admits he's changed, you know what I mean?
00:16:16
Global Sports Podcast Network
yeah
00:16:18
Jo
So maybe that's a project Howe could get his teeth into. Maybe Louise is not. Something like that.
00:16:24
Global Sports Podcast Network
Fair dues. The age thing would make it worthwhile putting the time in with Gordon whereas the Leopard may not be able to change his spots for Louise if he's troublemaker.
00:16:32
Jo
True.
00:16:33
Global Sports Podcast Network
I've not heard he was a troublemaker but if if he's expensive um then that's one reason for him not to be a backup midfielder.
00:16:33
Michael Grahamslaw
Yeah, great point.
00:16:41
Michael Grahamslaw
Yeah, he's had sort of, just on Louise there, sorry.
00:16:41
Global Sports Podcast Network
But what about my suggestion? Sorry. Yeah.
00:16:45
Michael Grahamslaw
He's had some issues with just putting rants out on Instagram and stuff like that of situations where he's, basically, he doesn't agree with something and he just posts straight on his social media without really thinking.
00:16:57
Michael Grahamslaw
You can tell his PR company have been sacked or some, or, well, I don't know that for sure. certain But it it certainly looks that way, so...
00:17:03
Jo
laughs
00:17:04
Global Sports Podcast Network
ah bit um
00:17:06
Michael Grahamslaw
um Yeah, think that's one of the things that's happened recently over the last six months. So I think the attitude's come from that, really. Other than that, I hadn't heard too much either. I thought he was a great player, but it seems like those sour grapes have started to develop at Juventus. And it's a shame.
00:17:22
Michael Grahamslaw
Hopefully the same doesn't happen to Lloyd Kelly.
00:17:24
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah. and Well, I heard Sunderland today, by the way, are considering a bid for Lloyd Kelly.
00:17:32
Jo
Really?
00:17:33
Michael Grahamslaw
Oof.
00:17:34
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, I did.
00:17:34
Michael Grahamslaw
I mean, be the best centre-back.
00:17:34
Jo
I haven't read that one.
00:17:35
Global Sports Podcast Network
I'm sure I read that.
00:17:37
Jo
True?
00:17:37
Global Sports Podcast Network
I read that.
00:17:38
Jo
True, true.
00:17:38
Global Sports Podcast Network
and I think I read that on the BBC website. Anyway, we'll see if that, no doubt we'll be chuckling up our sleeves later in the week if that transpires to be true. What do you think about my
00:17:47
Michael Grahamslaw
Mm-hmm.

Defense Concerns and Center-Back Acquisition

00:17:48
Global Sports Podcast Network
concern?
00:17:48
Global Sports Podcast Network
Am i right to be concerned or um i am I trying to um feed a pig strawberries by thinking we need an extra centre back alongside
00:18:01
Jo
That's a saying for you.
00:18:03
Global Sports Podcast Network
An extra centre back alongside.
00:18:04
Michael Grahamslaw
I've definitely never heard that one before.
00:18:05
Global Sports Podcast Network
Have you not?
00:18:07
Michael Grahamslaw
No.
00:18:07
Jo
No.
00:18:07
Global Sports Podcast Network
It's about over egging the pudding, I suppose. ah Because you can feed a pig anything, but why would you so why would you feed it strawberries?
00:18:11
Michael Grahamslaw
That one as well.
00:18:14
Global Sports Podcast Network
Is that what I'm doing?
00:18:15
Michael Grahamslaw
Fair point.
00:18:16
Global Sports Podcast Network
When we've already got Byrne and Shah and Botman and Lascelles, Kraft to cover if we need to, Alex Murphy, etc.
00:18:25
Jo
Yeah.
00:18:25
Michael Grahamslaw
Yeah, I think ah think it's one of those.
00:18:26
Global Sports Podcast Network
And chow.
00:18:27
Jo
Sorry, Gomez.
00:18:28
Michael Grahamslaw
I understand the the worry because we've been Newcastle fans long enough to know that Sven Botman gets injured pretty much for 30 out of 38 games at a minimum.
00:18:33
Jo
Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm.
00:18:39
Michael Grahamslaw
um Same with Jamal LaSalle. If Malik Chow comes in and gets a bad injury straight away, ah we're sitting we're all of a sudden sitting there and going, yeah, we're in trouble here. um But what I will say is,
00:18:50
Michael Grahamslaw
Emil Kraft has been absolutely fantastic since coming in. um Dan Byrne's also there as well. Ideally, i thought I would rather have him as left-back cover.
00:19:00
Global Sports Podcast Network
Okay.
00:19:00
Michael Grahamslaw
I'd rather bring in a left-back so Byrne can purely be centre-back, should I say. I'd rather bring in left-back cover instead of Matt Target. um Because again...
00:19:08
Global Sports Podcast Network
hey
00:19:09
Michael Grahamslaw
crocked and yeah give he's pretty he's not played well at all over pre-season so I'd rather do that personally um but think at the same time bringing in a left back who could play centre back like Chelsea just have with Jor-El Hato it's one of those where you could cover both positions with someone who's not great at either but is definitely sufficient enough that they can cover both and i think
00:19:26
Jo
yeah
00:19:26
Global Sports Podcast Network
Thank you.
00:19:36
Michael Grahamslaw
I do agree. Something is needed because if we have a season like we did two years ago, we're going to be top of that injury list again. And I don't know if the squad's actually stronger than what it was then because we've lost probably the only player you would call Mr.
00:19:49
Jo
yeah
00:19:51
Michael Grahamslaw
Reliable when it comes to injuries in Sean Longstaff.
00:19:54
Jo
Yeah, that's an excellent point.
00:19:56
Global Sports Podcast Network
What about, have you be he followed Man City putting 10 million price on Doyle? Is it Callum Doyle, the one who's set sent a half for england the England under-21s?
00:20:10
Michael Grahamslaw
I hadn't seen, no.
00:20:12
Jo
No, I didn't know.
00:20:12
Global Sports Podcast Network
Apparently, they've they've set a fee of 10 million when Norwich inquired about him. i think I think that's, ah I mean, I don't suppose we'd get offered 10 million.
00:20:19
Michael Grahamslaw
Oh yes.
00:20:22
Global Sports Podcast Network
They'd probably have, they might have 15 of us.
00:20:24
Jo
Nope. Double.
00:20:25
Global Sports Podcast Network
I think that's a good bet.
00:20:27
Michael Grahamslaw
There. yeah I mean, for an England under-21 centre-back, 20 million even seems like a steal.
00:20:32
Jo
True.
00:20:35
Michael Grahamslaw
um I haven't seen him enough, um personally, to to say otherwise. But he looks decent at an under-21s level. I'd certainly have an England under-21 international at 10 million.
00:20:46
Michael Grahamslaw
I mean, if Lewis Hall's just an under-21 international when we sign him, then why not?
00:20:51
Jo
Yeah.
00:20:52
Michael Grahamslaw
But I will say with Callum Doyle, He has played for Sunderland. So the the the town is a little bit toxic.
00:20:59
Global Sports Podcast Network
like good yeah Yeah, well, no, no, I mean, you know, I get that. I get that. But, you know, it was he was just a kid, wasn't he?
00:21:05
Michael Grahamslaw
A joke, a joke. Yeah, didn't know what he was doing.
00:21:08
Global Sports Podcast Network
And let's be honest, Chris Rigg is still playing for them, and we know he bleeds black and white, so he'll be coming to us at some point. So there there is that possibility to cross over if you catch them young enough.
00:21:15
Michael Grahamslaw
Trailer.
00:21:20
Global Sports Podcast Network
It's only later on that it becomes very difficult. and Okay, right, well, on that, we've saved till part three.

Alexander Isaac's Future and Potential Replacements

00:21:28
Global Sports Podcast Network
The big discussion on the Alexander Isaac replacement.
00:21:31
Jo
Yay.
00:21:31
Global Sports Podcast Network
Or have we?
00:21:32
Jo
EZAC again.
00:21:33
Global Sports Podcast Network
But i were going to ask joan to read us
00:21:35
Michael Grahamslaw
He's like, ole, ole, ole.
00:21:38
Jo
Dear me.
00:21:38
Global Sports Podcast Network
I'm going to ask Joanne to read us the Zencastr advert before we get into that.
00:21:43
Jo
Brilliant. Here at the Global Sports Podcast Network, we spent a lot of time selecting our delivery platform. Zencaster came out the clear winner. With 4K video recording from your phone and AI editing that automatically removes all those ums and ahs, it's super easy to start a podcast that sounds great and delivered efficiently.
00:22:01
Jo
If you're ready to tell your story, check out the link in the short description to learn more about Zancaster.
00:22:07
Global Sports Podcast Network
Thank you very much, Joanne. So, yeah, I mentioned ah the or am i for an Isaac replacement because as time ticks on, I'm feeling increasingly
00:22:19
Global Sports Podcast Network
that it's less and less likely that we're going to need to replace Isaac. I don't know if he's going to play or if he does when he's integrated and he starts playing for us again. But i do think that I do think that we might dig our heels in just to let everybody know that we can't be pushed around.
00:22:36
Global Sports Podcast Network
either by our players or by Liverpool.
00:22:39
Global Sports Podcast Network
And we just say, no, you you are not going to Liverpool at this point. We've got three years on your contract. and
00:22:39
Jo
Mm-hmm.
00:22:46
Jo
Yeah.
00:22:47
Global Sports Podcast Network
i mean, I'd love them to do something like talk to their mates and do a mutual loan deal. So we get Ivan Toni in and make Izak go play in Saudi for a year. That would be fun.
00:22:58
Global Sports Podcast Network
Wouldn't that not be fun? That would be great fun.
00:22:59
Jo
That would be funny.
00:23:01
Global Sports Podcast Network
and
00:23:01
Jo
It would upset him. So, yeah.
00:23:03
Global Sports Podcast Network
But, I mean, there's a huge amount of a huge amount of strikers are being linked to us. Sanu, Jackson, Munez, Tony, Mitrovic by Michael, which was a great shout. We could get him anyway.
00:23:14
Global Sports Podcast Network
What are your feelings about what's going get going to happen, Joanne? What are we doing with Izak?
00:23:23
Jo
Well, the owners have came out and said he's gone nowhere, isn't haven't they?
00:23:23
Global Sports Podcast Network
Less of...
00:23:25
Jo
So if we're going to believe that that's been said, um and rightly so, you know, we can't let him have this power that he's almost demanding and being a typical footballer, a modern day footballer, because...
00:23:26
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:23:35
Global Sports Podcast Network
Thank you.
00:23:38
Jo
There's a lot of them out there where we've given them too much power. So it's almost like it's human nature, isn't it If you literally say it to a person or bigger person up enough, they are going to get that kind of big eagle. And again, like I say, there's too many players with too much power.
00:23:51
Jo
If we can stop him from leaving, which I think is absolutely right, by the way, he's contracted, like you say, he's got three years left. Why should we let him go? it's I think that's the frustration of only Castle fans now.
00:24:02
Jo
Why should we give him what he wants to just absolutely scupper us, regardless of whether we get someone else in? So if we do sign Visser, sign God knows who else.
00:24:09
Global Sports Podcast Network
Thank
00:24:10
Jo
um But no, I can't see Isaac going anywhere. When he'll play for us again, is that's the million-dollar question, I'll be honest, because he's not trained with us, and he's already said that he won't be trained with us before Villa, which means he'll not play then. He'll still not play against Liverpool. Dear God, God forbid you play against them.
00:24:27
Jo
um but that that there lies the problem how long does this roll on to because eventually it does start to hurt us as a team we do need him unfortunately if we've got no backup or any replacement and I see us getting a replacement for Wilson I just don't see us getting a a replacement for him in before the end of the and window I'd love him to I'd love it to sorry because I want him to go at this point i think a lot of Newcastle fans feel that way I think it's going to be a very strange kind of atmosphere and feeling the first time he does play for us just due to the way it's gone down it's just it's been a mess hasn't it like a monumental mess let's get real
00:25:01
Global Sports Podcast Network
Michael, any alternate view or what are you thinking of the Ezek situation? Are we hanging on to him?
00:25:08
Michael Grahamslaw
No, i pretty much agree. ah I think I've said since day one, I think he stays. um I generally don't think we, Liverpool, are never going offer 150. We were never going to sway from that.
00:25:19
Global Sports Podcast Network
Thank you.
00:25:19
Michael Grahamslaw
If anything, we were probably, when the owners got involved, we were probably going to push that up to, I mean, I was starting to see 180 at some point and I was sitting there thinking,
00:25:28
Jo
you
00:25:30
Michael Grahamslaw
Oh, you cheeky, cheeky, cheeky owner. um But yeah, it's it's one of those where I don't think he leaves. ah so I don't think he features for us in August, which means he misses Villa, Liverpool and Leeds.
00:25:44
Michael Grahamslaw
Then we have the international break. Yeah. very much depends on if he goes to play with Sweden. Um, I would hazard a guess that maybe he won't, um, and he'll be told that he has to stay then maybe be integrated, not for wolves.
00:26:00
Michael Grahamslaw
I think you'll come off the bench for wolves and then start for us in our first champions league game on Tuesday, sixteenth of September.
00:26:09
Jo
Ian, I tell you what, this was primed for a bet, you know, but from what Michael's just said there.
00:26:09
Michael Grahamslaw
um
00:26:10
Global Sports Podcast Network
Can you hear all that? i know.
00:26:12
Jo
Like, honestly, I'm, like, primed to put a bet on based on exactly what you've said, because if if that comes off, I'll be like, he's psychic. He knows what's happening. That's so specific.
00:26:21
Global Sports Podcast Network
what what
00:26:21
Jo
Like, he's going to, I like that, though.
00:26:22
Global Sports Podcast Network
what What minute is he to score in, Michael, on that first Champions League game?
00:26:26
Michael Grahamslaw
um So I think you'll start and then, well, it depends on who we play. We could play Real Madrid. um in which case
00:26:31
Jo
Well, true, was going to say.
00:26:33
Michael Grahamslaw
In which case, you'll score in the fourth minute. Or we could play young boys, at which point you won't score at all because they're just much better than us.
00:26:40
Global Sports Podcast Network
It won't go there.
00:26:41
Michael Grahamslaw
No, I think it's one of those where you know he's good he's going to do well, he's going to come on.
00:26:41
Jo
Bye.
00:26:41
Global Sports Podcast Network
and
00:26:45
Michael Grahamslaw
But I don't think, even if we if we sign you on Wisser, we can sit there and go, right, Liverpool, we don't need Isaac. Leeds is probably the game where you want to break a team down.
00:26:56
Michael Grahamslaw
he'd be happy you Same with Wolves. You'd want Isaac for them, but Wiss is more than good enough. um
00:27:01
Global Sports Podcast Network
yeah
00:27:02
Michael Grahamslaw
And if he's still keeping that hissy fit up before the first Champions League game, he hasn't grown up, then I think it'll probably take two additional weeks, which will be the Arsenal game. I do think as soon as the window closes...
00:27:14
Michael Grahamslaw
because it's a World Cup year as well, he is going to sit there and go, you know what, fine, I haven't got my way.
00:27:16
Jo
Mm-hmm.
00:27:20
Michael Grahamslaw
um just I'll find a way to move next year, um which is fine. That's what I originally predicted that he would do, leave next year. um So I'm happy with that. I've come to terms with that, which is all that matters, really.
00:27:33
Michael Grahamslaw
but So yeah, you I think he'll play the Champions League game, but if he if he doesn't grow up in time, he'll be back for Arsenal.
00:27:43
Global Sports Podcast Network
So we all think that he's back. We're not selling him. All of this stuff that everyone's talking about.
00:27:47
Michael Grahamslaw
No.
00:27:48
Global Sports Podcast Network
The fact that Nicholas Jackson's reported in the BBC website this morning as preferring a move to Newcastle above everyone else.
00:27:49
Jo
yeah
00:27:56
Global Sports Podcast Network
We don't have to worry about that then.
00:27:58
Michael Grahamslaw
No.
00:28:00
Global Sports Podcast Network
Is there still a scope in the loan market, in the budget market for us to bring a second striker in and not have the pressure to integrate him and just let him stew for a little bit?
00:28:14
Global Sports Podcast Network
I know what I'm trying to get you to tell me about Michael again, because I love hearing about it, is a certain Newcastle supporting striker who who hasn't even got a contract at the moment.
00:28:14
Michael Grahamslaw
oh
00:28:24
Michael Grahamslaw
Yeah.
00:28:27
Global Sports Podcast Network
Tell Joanne.
00:28:27
Michael Grahamslaw
Yeah.
00:28:28
Global Sports Podcast Network
Oh, it's exciting.
00:28:28
Michael Grahamslaw
Yeah. So Alexander Mitrovic with the transfer of Darwin Nunes to Al-Halal basically hasn't been registered. Al-Halal need to get rid of three EU players.
00:28:41
Michael Grahamslaw
um They've got, I think it's 10 and they can only register just seven.
00:28:42
Jo
um
00:28:45
Michael Grahamslaw
It might be 11 and eight. I'm i'm not sure. It's basically non-Saudi players. So Mitrovic, going to be available at a ah cut price. um Leeds and Sunderland have both been heavily linked.
00:28:56
Michael Grahamslaw
Neither can afford the wage. um It's looking like he's going ask for about 130, 140. you know, we could afford that. 20 million.
00:29:05
Jo
We could.
00:29:07
Michael Grahamslaw
Our Saudi overlords could, you know, throw us a little penny here and there. Even Kings love charity. um So and maybe, just maybe, Alexander Mitrovic comes in.
00:29:17
Jo
Imagine.
00:29:18
Michael Grahamslaw
um I do think it would be Wissa or Mitrovic, but I'd certainly be excited with either.
00:29:25
Global Sports Podcast Network
I'll be very doubly excited with both, I'll be honest.
00:29:28
Michael Grahamslaw
Oh, yes.
00:29:28
Global Sports Podcast Network
And I didn't agree with the way Rafa throws Mitra out, because even when he did get some games for Rafa, he kept scoring, didn't he? And he kept getting sent off as well. I know! But, you know, he was a young hothead at the time, just because he was passionate.
00:29:28
Jo
Yeah.
00:29:42
Michael Grahamslaw
Yeah, he just punched people.
00:29:42
Jo
He was.
00:29:44
Global Sports Podcast Network
and Right. Well, so that's interesting. A long list of very exciting midfield players to replace Longstaff. A number of other alternatives, maybe in the loan market, to come in and give us a bit of depth for the Champions League matches.
00:30:00
Global Sports Podcast Network
And we don't sell Isaac.
00:30:00
Michael Grahamslaw
Yeah.
00:30:03
Global Sports Podcast Network
We just hang on to him and torture the poor man until he Completely crawls over Broken Bass, begging to come back training.
00:30:06
Jo
Sounds good.
00:30:09
Michael Grahamslaw
Hashtag 3 Isach.
00:30:13
Jo
Oh my God, Michael, what's going on with
00:30:14
Global Sports Podcast Network
Whoa. What happened there?
00:30:15
Jo
What's that?
00:30:17
Global Sports Podcast Network
He's just showing off now.
00:30:17
Jo
I don't know.
00:30:17
Michael Grahamslaw
ah So, for those watching the video, we don't know the full capabilities of Zencaster just yet. So every time I try things, things just happen.
00:30:25
Jo
What did you do?
00:30:28
Global Sports Podcast Network
Oh, wow.
00:30:29
Jo
Michael though, how does it happen for you and it doesn't happen for us? Do it in.
00:30:32
Michael Grahamslaw
I'm the Zen...
00:30:32
Global Sports Podcast Network
Michael, I think you should...
00:30:33
Michael Grahamslaw
I'm the Zencaster king, baby. Okay.
00:30:36
Jo
He's like, what's going
00:30:37
Global Sports Podcast Network
and I think you should try one more and then I'll just i'll just run the outro, Michael. Do us another one.
00:30:41
Jo
on? Do that. Try a thumbs down, see what happens.
00:30:44
Jo
oh
00:30:44
Michael Grahamslaw
Oh...
00:30:44
Global Sports Podcast Network
Oh, yeah.
00:30:45
Michael Grahamslaw
ah
00:30:46
Jo
It's raining on his head. That's brilliant.
00:30:47
Global Sports Podcast Network
So there we go Michael farts out of his head.
00:30:49
Michael Grahamslaw
Zencastr.

I'm far too excited about these things, me.
