00:00:31
Speaker
evening. Welcome to another episode of Ghouls Over Vampires. I am your host, Hodge, and joining me this week is my co-host, the spookiest man, the the scariest time of night, and that's Midnight.
00:00:47
Speaker
How are you?
00:00:54
Speaker
Or should we say, Bucky the Beaver? Hello, it is I, Bucky the Beaver, live and in the flesh. Why am I doing a spooky voice?
00:01:05
Speaker
I don't know, but look, we have spooky beaver. Yes, Bucky the Beaver. This is a full on costume here. Let me give you for those watching the video version. Let me give you the tour here.
00:01:25
Speaker
Your cat's like, what the fuck is happening? Bucky the beef.
00:01:31
Speaker
And I am, i didn't choose myself, but I am Hodge, or should I say Misty.

Sean's Absence & Love for Holiday Episodes

00:01:40
Speaker
Oh my God.
00:01:43
Speaker
I thought Sean would really enjoy this one. Unfortunately, everyone's Sean could not join us. He had ah some serious stuff going on. Obviously, he is very sad he's missing this episode. Our Halloween episodes are... Our holiday episodes in general, I think, are might probably my favorite episodes we do, other than maybe the Gopies. That was really fun, too. So, obviously, I'll be looking forward to doing Gopies again. but yeah sean Sean, unfortunately, can't be here with us, but me and Midnight are going to hold on the fort dressed like idiots ah doing some... ah We're going to talk about three video game adaptation horror movies in honor of Spoopy Season.
00:02:18
Speaker
ah Last year, if you if ah you haven't listened, we did our five favorite Halloween-themed or horror games or whatever, so obviously we didn't want to do that again. i mean, I've played a bunch of Halloween or horror games since then, but...
00:02:30
Speaker
It'd be redundant to do it again. So we figured, let's

Reviewing Video Game Horror Movies

00:02:33
Speaker
do something else. And I came up with, let's just watch three horrible, horrible, ah scary movies that are based on video games. And we're just going to review them and rag on them and just kind of discuss them. But...
00:02:46
Speaker
ah Before we do that, obviously this is Games Over Plastic, or should i say Ghouls Over Vampires, and it is available every other week unless we have a DLC we want to do, which is available in the off weeks every Monday at 7 a.m. m Eastern.
00:02:59
Speaker
So you can listen to it on your commute if you so desire. But ah yeah, let's just hop right into... So before we do, what have we been playing? I figured we could do a really quick section since we're in spoopy season. and I think we kind of did this last year a little bit, but we're going to what have we been watching?
00:03:16
Speaker
Yeah. So I know you said yesterday you watched a good a horror movie that I really enjoy. So you watched It Follows, right? Yeah. I've been watching a couple horror movies actually that you recommended since you are the Lord of Halloween, of course, Lord of the Spoobs.
00:03:32
Speaker
ah But yeah, so yesterday I watched It Follows and I thought this was a really good movie until guess what, Hodge? What what didn't I like about the movie? The ending was ambiguous? The ending, yeah. i I'm not a fan of the a big ambiguous ending. like I don't want to like use my imagination to figure out what happened. Because if I'm going to use my imagination, then why am I watching your movie?
00:03:55
Speaker
like I could just make up a story in my mind anyway. If I'm watching a movie, I want you to tell me a story. And the story should have an ending. This movie was pretty awesome, but then the ending, they just leave it completely open. It's like, well...
00:04:07
Speaker
Is it over or is it right behind you? Like, you know, you don't know. So they let you make up your own mind, which is cool. If they're going to do a sequel, I guess, then they probably will. Maybe. I don't know. But I gave it a three stars out of five on ah on the website we use.
00:04:22
Speaker
Letterboxd. Yeah, like a six point five or a seven out of ten, if you will. But I thought if it had an actual ending, I would have liked it quite a bit. Yeah. Yeah. I'm the kind of person that if an ending is ambiguous, in my mind, my headcanon is this the happy ending because I do... like That's why like movies that have come out recently like f one or Top Gun Maverick, like they're just happy movies. like They're American blockbusters with happy endings. and it's like yeah That's the shit I like. like i don't I mean, obviously horror movies, they're not know meant to be happy-go-lucky movies, but I like...
00:04:54
Speaker
I like knowing that it ended well. I don't, I don't, and also I hate, that's the thing I hate about horror movies of the happy ending is just abruptly ended at the end. Like, just kidding. They're still alive. And it's like, come like you guys are now just hoping to milk it for like, hot like Friday the 13th and nightmare on Elm street and Chucky. Like you guys just want to keep it going and going and going just to make a bunch of really crappy movies. So you don't end it. And,
00:05:18
Speaker
Yeah, like there's ah there's another one on my list that i don't know if you've watched it. It's called Krampus. It has an ambiguous ending. I really like this movie, but I, in my head canon, it is the happy ending. So, but yeah. What else what other?
00:05:32
Speaker
I haven't seen Krampus, I don't think. Pretty sure haven't. It's a black comedy, like Christmas horror movie where like these this family is stuck in a house and Krampus is here and it's like everyone's like hunting them and stuff. It's it's actually, you it's a really good movie. It's the same guy who did Trick or Treat which is another really good horror movie. So I really like those movies. But what else? What else have you been watching?
00:05:54
Speaker
Yeah. So I watched another movie that you recommended weapons. And this one was a hit. This one you this one you definitely nailed. um This one I rated a four and a half stars out of five on a letterboxd or whatever it's called.
00:06:07
Speaker
um This one was really good. You know, like nine out of ten movie. um Love the story. Love the plot. Love all the the mystery involved. And it had a very cool, satisfying ending as well.
00:06:18
Speaker
um Weapons is really

Director & Film Discussions

00:06:19
Speaker
good. I'm not going to spoil anything for anyone. i don't If I say anything, it spoils it. like you gotta ah um I will recommend, though, for anyone out there, if you haven't seen Weapons, that's a movie that you should watch because it's just it's awesome.
00:06:29
Speaker
Really good. Yeah. the The only thing, people... It's not a spoiler. It's just the synopsis of the movie. It's basically... overnight, one random night, every single kid except one disappeared from a classroom at 2.14 a.m. And no one knows why, like no one knows where they went and all that. And so that's really just a mystery falling. Like, where do these kids go? And it's it's really good. The the director is Zack Kreger. He's also the writer. He also did a movie called Barbarian, which is really good.
00:06:55
Speaker
And for those who are old like us, you also may know him as the one of the actors and writers of the so the sketch show Whitest Kids You Know. Like, He did that way back in the day. So he plays Abraham Lincoln in one of the funniest sketches out there.
00:07:10
Speaker
But yeah, so and and he is ah signed on to write and direct a new Resident Evil movie. so he is two her He's three for three in my mind. Weapons, Barbarian, and a movie called Mismarge, which is really stupid, but it's hilarious. he He directed all three of those, so he's three of three in my mind, and I'm very excited for Resident Evil, but he did say they aren't going to follow the games, and it's going to be its own story, which always makes me hesitant, as we'll talk about with some of these movies coming up.
00:07:41
Speaker
But this guy, like I said, he's three for three, so i have I have faith in his ability to make a great movie, but I'm just a little... Like, I want to see Resident Evil properly done on screen, not the dog shit we've gotten over the years. So I'm a little 50 50 on that. But ah have you watched it? You've been watching anything else or?
00:07:59
Speaker
Yeah. So now I've watched just those five movies, those two weapons and it follows plus the three that we're going to get into for our main topic. ah Yours, mine, and Sean's. We're still going to do Sean's movie, even though he couldn't make it, of course.
00:08:12
Speaker
ah We're going to talk about what we thought of his ah excellent movie. it's thanks All the movies were fantastic. I wanted to watch the original Halloween, but I just didn't have time. I'll probably watch that in the next couple days, though. dear at Yeah, i mean, we we still have two weeks until Halloween, so there's still plenty of time to watch some more spoofs. Because I still have a bunch of...
00:08:31
Speaker
um Yeah, I've been watching I watched a movie called ah Bring Her Back the other day. It's the same person or same it's two people who direct it. The same people who did a movie called Talk To Me, which is another which Talk To Me is a fantastic movie.
00:08:46
Speaker
horror movie. It's actually very like a very creepy and scary kind of horror movie. It's not like, you know, kind of the artsy ones, which bring her back is a little more of that. It's bring her back's hardly even a horror movie. It's about these two orphans who go to live with a woman and they find out that she's, you know, doing some fucked up shit.
00:09:05
Speaker
And it's it's good. It's very good. The first 45 minutes I thought were very slow, but the last hour of the movie, it's very good. So it's, but I like Talk To Me Better, but

Halloween Movie Traditions

00:09:16
Speaker
it was still, it's still good. Still worth checking out. I think it just got added to HBO actually. So if anyone's listening, you can go and watch it.
00:09:24
Speaker
Um, I've also watched Corpse Bride. Uh, it's not a horror movie. It's a Tim Burton movie, but, uh, that's a great, I love claymation. So I love movies like that. Um,
00:09:35
Speaker
Oh man, what if else have I watched? I watched War of the Worlds, the Tom Cruise one. just I don't know. I had the ah had the the craving of watching it. But yeah, I still have to watch Halloween. That's one I watch every year because it's so good. It's one of the best.
00:09:49
Speaker
It's like the OG slasher film and it's and it's still one of the best ones ever. And I want to rewatch It, the even though the movie combined are like five hours to watch both. But ah Yeah, i don't know. I haven't really gotten to watch as many as I want, but obviously, like I said, there's still two weeks.
00:10:07
Speaker
I've been playing spoopy games is kind of what i've I've been trying to game a lot recently, so I haven't had too much time to watch horror movies. if if i I don't think I've... Yeah, I'm trying to think. I know I've probably watched a couple other horror movies, but they're just slipping my mind right now. so Oh, I watched Bram Stoker's Dracula, which is directed by Francis Ford Coppola. I've never seen that one before.
00:10:27
Speaker
i will say um that Nosferatu, which came out last year, is better than... They're both the same story of you know Dracula, but Nosferatu is a much better movie than... But it's still it's still very good, and it has a 21-year-old Winona Ryder who's very hot, so that's that's pretty cool, too. Well, you can't go wrong with that.
00:10:46
Speaker
So you're and Gary Oldman plays Dracula. So I need to watch that Nosferatu that it sounds like. It's very it's it's very messed up, but it's like it's it's so well done because it's ah the guy who directed it. um Why am I blanking on his name right now?
00:11:04
Speaker
He also directed a movie called The Witch, The Lighthouse. He he makes like very artsy, kind of A24 type horror movies. And they're very, he he hasn't missed once.
00:11:18
Speaker
I'm looking at him up because he had Robert Eggers, that's his name. Uh, yeah. Nosferatu, The Witch. He also did The Northman. i don't know if you've seen that movie. It's, uh, that one's not a really a horror movie. It's about, like, a Viking way back in... It has, like, Norse mythology and stuff in It's really good.
00:11:34
Speaker
But, uh, yeah. he's He's made some really good horror movies. The Lighthouse is still probably my favorite by him. But Nosferatu is a close second, I think. But... Let me ask you this. Have you seen the movie Let the Right One In? The 2008 Swedish horror movie?
00:11:50
Speaker
No, I haven't, but I've heard that it. recommend that you watch this. It's a good movie. You've got to watch the Swedish one from 2008, so it's subtitled. But, like, it's good, dude. it's It's a 2008 Swedish romantic horror film.
00:12:03
Speaker
It's very interesting, very unique. It's about these kids, um and there yeah is some spooky stuff in it. So it's Swedish with subtitles, so I'm going to have to be listening to a horror. I'm going have to pretend I'm scared while they're talking, like, inger, inger, inger.
00:12:19
Speaker
Yes, exactly. It's not super scary, but it's a good movie. Okay. yeah I don't expect that you'll probably be scared hardly at all. But it does have like vampire themes, I'll just say that much. And it's's it's good. i like It's like a sleeper movie.
00:12:35
Speaker
Yeah, it says it's on Prime, so I can i can watch that. It has a 90% on Rotten Tomatoes. And an 82% on Metacritic. so So people like it. And I know me and Lockmore like it.
00:12:48
Speaker
Nice. Well, Lockhart has to. It's from his from this area. From his area, yeah. You don't see many Swedish movies, so that's pretty rare. Yeah. Let me see. Actually, I'm going to pull up my diary real quick. Yeah, so oh I've watched a couple of the Chucky movies.
00:13:01
Speaker
of which are all really dumb. But this movie, I think I talked about this podcast last week, actually. It's called EFAP, Every Frame of Pause. yeah And it' these guys just watch movies, and they record them, like, commentating over, and they upload to YouTube. Like, they're able to edit it in a way where even though the movie's in the video, it doesn't get copyright struck. I don't know how they do it, but

Game Reviews: Fortnite & Battlefield Discussion

00:13:23
Speaker
they do it. And it's really, really cool. So they watch these movies, and, yeah, they did they They're doing child's play right now, so I've watched the first three. and Those movies are really stupid, but they're they're entertaining.
00:13:35
Speaker
And then I just looked, also I forgot, this is actually what sparked my idea of doing this topic, which it almost was the movie I chose, but I didn't go with it. I watched ah Five Nights at Freddy's, and it was it was decent. it was It wasn't amazing by any stretch, but it was an entertaining movie, and there's a sequel coming out in December for some reason. Great great time of the year to release a freaking horror movie, but...
00:13:59
Speaker
ah Yeah, so I watched that. it's It's pretty good. but yeah i got I got plenty more that I still need to watch before for Halloween in two weeks. but Anything else or shall we move on? Nah, said let's get into games.
00:14:15
Speaker
Yeah, let's do it. So, what we have been playing. Do you want me to go first or do you want to go first? I can because then you can unleash your spoops after because I don't know what games you're playing. So mine are listed there. So we'll we'll save yours for after because I don't know what you're playing. um So first firstly, Battlefield 6 came out. I don't have too much to say about this because I've only done the multiplayer, which is the same as the beta. Obviously, there's more levels and more game game modes now, but.
00:14:45
Speaker
ah It's a blast. i i i don't Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if this game beats Call Duty. It probably won't because Call is on Game Pass and Call Duty is just a set annual game that everyone always buys.
00:15:00
Speaker
But this game is so fun. I absolutely love this game. ah so i've been The only thing that I really don't like about this game is you can only have a party of four.
00:15:11
Speaker
like i get that i get that you have a squad, But you should be able to partner up with like another squad. like Have two squads together so you can have eight people in your lobby. like It shouldn't be limited to four people in a lobby. That is the stupidest thing. Other than that, the game the game is super fun. Have you hopped into Battlefield yet?
00:15:31
Speaker
No, I played the beta and I enjoyed the beta a fair bit, um but I just haven't felt inclined to drop the money to buy the full game. um Yeah. Because I think, honestly, I'm going to play. I've been convinced by my friends to try Call of Duty this year because of, I don't know if you saw, but they they're making matchmaking changes finally.
00:15:51
Speaker
Something that we've wanted a long time. They tried this out during the Call of Duty beta, and they said that the official matchmaking for Black Ops 7 is going to be just ping-based with minimal skill factored in. So it's very light skill-based matchmaking.
00:16:08
Speaker
So we're hoping that the lobbies won't be as sweaty as they have been in the last few years. So I'm i'm not going to buy Call of Duty either. I'm going to play it on Game Pass. So, yeah you know, I got it on Game Pass. But I'm going to try Call of Duty with my friends, with the DOB and stuff.
00:16:22
Speaker
um Which, well, that episode will come out here in a couple weeks, for those who don't you know. we have We recorded a Call of Duty episode, which was awesome. And that'll come out. but Yeah, that'll be coming out on November ten ah It's going to be the Monday right before the launch of Black Ops 7. That'll come out. Yeah, because the third would be the one right after Halloween. So, yeah, the 10th. Yeah.
00:16:45
Speaker
Yep. So on November 10th, look forward to that, dear listeners. We did a ranking all the Call of Duty games from worst to best spoiler cast with, well, not spoiler cast, but you know DLC episode with myself, Hodge, and my friend NotoriousDLB, who is a ah beast obese FPS player and a cool dude.
00:17:05
Speaker
yeah he was Yeah, he was a lot of fun to chat with. I had never obviously met him, but yeah, he was a lot of fun. We'll definitely have him back for future episodes, too. But, um yeah, so I don't really have anything else say about Battlefield 6. It's nothing, you know, groundbreaking. Obviously, it's just a more pretty game that's fun to play. And, yeah, there's nothing, really.
00:17:25
Speaker
But I know everybody in the Spank Bank has been really loving it. Meatball has been telling me how addicted he is to Battlefield. like He's like, oh, you know I could play this game, but I just want to play Battlefield. So people are really liking it, I see.
00:17:37
Speaker
Yeah, it's been tough because Battlefield 6 launched, which at this obviously you won't care about this, but it launched at the exact same time as Fort Nightmares, which is their annual Halloween event. And it's always super fun.
00:17:50
Speaker
And so I've been wanting to hop in to play Fortnite, but I'm like, but I want to play Battlefield. Because Battlefield is so much fun. So yesterday i got off work at about 4.30. i got home and I played a little bit of my next game until dinner. And then I played...
00:18:04
Speaker
or excuse me, Battlefield until for like four hours until like midnight. I'm like, I have to go to bed. Like, like I can't stay up forever. i have to go to freaking bed. I'm way too addicted to this. So because I wanted to get up and work out and whatnot before we did this. But yeah, so Battlefield six is awesome. but Like I said, I've also been playing a little bit of Fort nightmares. There you go. Get Bucky there on the screen. um I've been playing a little bit of Fort nightmares. It's a lot of fun, but i don't need to get into that too much. They they have a oh,
00:18:34
Speaker
Duh, I'm an idiot. i Of course, the other movie I saw just the other night i was made me think of this because The Grabber, who's the character who's the bad guy from The Black Phone, is in Fortnite this year.
00:18:46
Speaker
And I just saw The Black Phone 2 on Thursday. And that movie is awesome. If anyone hasn't seen The Black Phone in The Black Phone 2, watch them. They're so good. The first one is better, I think, but it's very, very close. us But, yeah. So, other than that... Real quick...
00:19:03
Speaker
Before you move on to your next game, a couple of questions for Battlefield 6. um is the They nerfed the movement slightly after the beta. How is the movement? is it still fast is it good have you noticed anything i didn haven't really noticed i've been but when i'm in like a close area i've i'm actually pretty good at murdering people so i don't i don't know maybe they did nerf it a little bit because i'm able to land my shots easier but um the only annoying thing about battlefield is when you're in those huge maps just the people who are camping and sniping or just sitting in tanks like that that that
00:19:37
Speaker
That makes it just not fun for me. Like, so I try and mix in the close the close area battles because I'm i'm decent ah ah decent enough at shooting. Like, I'm a good shooter, but when I'm trying to run across this, like, 500-yard field to get to a base and I just get sniped, it's like...
00:19:55
Speaker
come on. Like, the only way you can get there is in a tank or a car. It's like, I don't want to do that, though. Like, I want to play, quite you know, boots on the ground, as they say. Yeah, those are the those are the two things that kind of turned me off a little bit about Battlefield is snipers and viet and vehicles, because I'm not a fan of dying to either of them, because you just get insta-killed, and you don't really have a chance, because one's even in the super vehicle, or the other one you can't even see. They're on a hill with a glint, you know?
00:20:20
Speaker
Yeah, exactly. Yeah. And also, you know, I do kind of lament the lack of killstreaks. You know, I am a simpleton. I love killstreaks in my shooters that Call it Duty does. And in Battlefield, you know, you just don't really get rewarded as such. If you do go on a killstreak, you don't really get anything out of it other than it feels good, which is good.
00:20:36
Speaker
Yeah. I actually, i thought about that yesterday while I was playing. I was like, Man, I wish I could call him like a chopper right now. That'd sweet, dude. They should make a mode that has killstreaks.
00:20:47
Speaker
yeah Like a smaller mode that doesn't have vehicles, kind of like a 10v10, 12v12 smaller mode, but where if you go on a streak, you could call in a chopper or you could call in like an airstrike. Yeah, exactly. That'd be fun. I think people would enjoy that.
00:20:59
Speaker
Like a side mode. definitely. Yeah, I think so, too. I mean, i mean, like, you know, not to go back to Fortnite, but Fortnite's done proved that they can do that by having different game modes that are completely different than each other. Like, i know you've played the even you hopped into it to play that ballistic mode.
00:21:13
Speaker
Yeah, we can talk about that briefly if you want for a second. Yeah, sure Or we can wait till I get to mine. But since you just brought it up, yeah, I mean, you know, you guys know that Midnight is the Fortnite hater. i always hate on Fortnite, the little douchebag kids doing the floss dance and shit.
00:21:27
Speaker
um I always hated that. But yeah, you know, you did. i think you told me that they had this new ballistic mode, which is kind of like CSGO. ah It's like 5v5, like search and destroy, one life per round, you know, one team defense, one team plans. And I love that shit.
00:21:39
Speaker
That's like my favorite. I love search and destroy. I played CSGO for a while. um That's that's the type of stuff that I really get into. um So me and my boy DLB, we got on Fortnite and we were playing that ballistic mode. And I got to tell you, it was a lot of fun. Like we really had a lot of fun.
00:21:54
Speaker
um The dances and stuff are fucking stupid, but it was funny. Like we're sitting there like doing the gritty with people. I have the Gundam style ah one, so like I'm breaking out the Gundam style.
00:22:06
Speaker
And like you can all dance together. like People come up and do it together. And it's just like it's stupid, but it's fun. um So I do kind of understand, I guess, where where the joy comes from with that. like The skins are ridiculous. like They have the Green Ranger. I love the Green Ranger. The Green Ranger is the best Ranger, folks.
00:22:21
Speaker
ah Not the White Ranger. The White Ranger is lame. The green one was way cooler. all right He had a little he had the little dragon... ah yeah The flute, the flute that was a dagger. Like, that's awesome. You know what i mean?
00:22:33
Speaker
ah But yeah, shout out to the Green Ranger. i didn't get that skin. Unfortunately, it was in the battle pass. I didn't play enough. But yeah, yeah. But those battle passes don't expire, I don't think. So like I could get it later, right?
00:22:44
Speaker
ah No, they do move on once it's a new season. I think we're still in the same season, so if you played it enough, you could get to it. but which Which is crazy because back in the day with Fortnite, you had to grind to get to level 100.
00:22:58
Speaker
But now it's like you get to level 100 by week three of the season, and then you're trying to grind for the post-Battle Pass like unlocks and stuff. it It's really weird. It's good.
00:23:09
Speaker
Yeah, um but this like I like that you're able to get through them quicker, like to get the stuff, but it it took away from, I remember having to play, like me and my friends, like, dude, there's only two weeks left, we have to get in there, we're only level 90, like we have to grind these final 10 levels to get the skin, because if you didn't get it it went away, I mean, which is still the case, but yeah, so we had to get in there be like, we have to we have to get it before the battle the battle pass ends, so...
00:23:33
Speaker
I like that they made it a little easier because they're recognizing that people have other like other things in their life. like you have other games that you want to play. yeah Yeah, I agree. I'm not against it at all. It's just the fact of like there's the pride of getting to 100. Like, yeah, I got the skin because I you know was able to get there. but More exclusive kind of Yeah, even though I do kind of wish that Fortnite would do the Halo route of every battle passes there, it doesn't go away. Like if you like, I'm still I'm still on the first battle pass for Halo. I mean, I've unlocked others from other battle passes, but I haven't even finished the first one because like, but I can still do it, which is awesome. And that game launched.
00:24:12
Speaker
Three years ago? Two years? Three or four years ago? i don't even remember when launched. It was a while ago. 21. 21. 21. So, yeah, four years ago. I knew I was living in Iowa, so I couldn't remember how long ago it was. But, yeah, so that's cool. But, anyway, moving on.

Mixed Feelings on Silent Hill F

00:24:27
Speaker
um My other game, I just started it two days ago and because I wanted to play another spoopy game before spoopy season ended, and that is Silent Hill F.
00:24:38
Speaker
i I am not going to lie. I'm not in love with this game. Like i I was surprised because everyone's talking this one up like better than Silent Hill 2. It's getting nines across the board. like But the story is very intriguing. Don't get me wrong. I'm just shy halfway through. I'm on chapter 6 out of 13. So I'm just shy of halfway through the game.
00:25:01
Speaker
And the plot is interesting and it's intriguing. It's obviously still in the mystery section. There's no no reveals yet really. But the gameplay, it's very... i even I even thought this when I saw the reveal trailers. It's not that good. Like, it's just you're walking around, the same little creepy fucking mannequin things walk up to you, and they start attacking you, and you just whack them with a fucking pipe. Like, it's the same. It's basically exactly what Silent Hill 2 was in that sense, even though in this...
00:25:33
Speaker
your fucking weapons break, which pisses me off. I don't want breakable weapons when I'm playing a game, especially a horror game where if I'm being chased by a thing and my pipe breaks, now I'm fucked because now I'm just having to run away and it's annoying. But um Overall, I am liking it. I don't see it as being a 9 out of 10.
00:25:53
Speaker
I mean, who knows? Maybe the gameplay will be different and the story will blow my mind and I'll be absolutely in love with this game. But as of right now, it's just I'm liking it. It's good. It's beautiful also. It is a gorgeous game. I'm playing on PS5 Pro, so...
00:26:10
Speaker
It has a pro enhancement and it is it is a gorgeous game. I will give it that for sure. But overall, yeah, it's just it's just good as of right now. And, oh, also, I'm playing it in Japanese. I normally don't do that. I don't play the subbed ones.
00:26:25
Speaker
I would too for this. But, yeah, since it's set in Japan and you're playing as Japanese kids, like hearing them act. to immersed. Yeah. Yeah, it is very good. like I played it for about half an hour with the English voice cast, and it was fine.
00:26:39
Speaker
But when I switched over to Japanese, like, oh, this actually is very cool because it's very... like it Yeah, it feels like very Japanese. so I'm playing it like that, and that's very cool. that that The fact also that they give you the option.
00:26:50
Speaker
So I'm thinking when I play Yote, I might do the same thing I'm like no i'm i'm actually digging this digging this Japanese soundtrack or voice cast, but wellll yeah We'll get into that briefly, but I will just say that I actually did not. I did it in English.
00:27:07
Speaker
Oh, really? Although I played the original Ghost in Japanese. Yeah, I played the original in English. so But i don't know. I'll see. If you can shuffle it in the game, I'll probably just kind of check each one to see which is better. but You can switch it, but I think you might have to like go to the main menu and switch it and then get load your save back in. But yeah, you can switch it mid-game, though. It's not that hard.
00:27:27
Speaker
Okay, that's good. But yeah, the English dub is really good. They did really good on the voice acting. um But yeah, I understand. i just I didn't want to have to read the subtitles while I was like fighting and and like trying to explore. I wanted to be able to hear it natively, but do what you want.
00:27:43
Speaker
Yeah, that's fair. Yeah. I mean, again, that's true. Yeah. The the voice acting in the first Ghost was really good. So, and like this game, the Japanese is basically the default, whereas in Yotei or Ghost of Tsushima, English was default.
00:27:56
Speaker
Yeah. it's ah It's an American game. So yeah. um And yeah. And the the only thing that sucks about the English dub for Ghost is that ah Yong Ye is in it. And I can't stand that, dude. Isn't like YouTuber? Yeah, he's a you he's a YouTube grifter um who, if you pull up his channel, every video that he ever makes is almost always negative.
00:28:15
Speaker
It's like just always like, oh, this guy is following. What's going on? Oh, these dudes suck. These dudes are terrible. These guys are going out of business. Like, it's just a bunch of negativity that I don't need in my life. So I stopped. I used to watch him, like, don't know, five years ago, and I just stopped.
00:28:30
Speaker
But anyway. That's like when I see on YouTube they have, like, the... It's like, Naughty Dog is, go woke, go broke. It's like, they're very successful. They're not going broke. What are you talking about? Like, yeah like I have my criticisms of the Last of Us 2. That is well known among everyone who listens to this. But like to act like Naughty Dog is going into the gutter, like you you need a fucking shit.
00:28:51
Speaker
And also, Naughty Dog really isn't that woke. I mean, you know, I'm the guy who puts on the blue sunglasses and is not a fan of woke stuff. I mean, i played The Last of Us 2 recently. There was one kid who, you know,
00:29:03
Speaker
yeah had But that was it. it was It was very lightly handled. It wasn't thrown in your face. And like the rest of the game wasn't really woke. so Well, and the funny thing is I didn't dislike the game because of the wokeness. I actually thought that that story, that side plot was that was a good story. It was actually very intriguing. Yeah.
00:29:18
Speaker
But anyway, that's what we're talking about. We're talking about Silent Hill F. But overall, like I'm saying, ah yeah, it's a it's a it's a good game. i'm I'm excited to see it through, but I'm just kind of bummed that it didn't grab me as hard as I thought it was going to with how everyone was talking about it, because I expected this game to be like a masterpiece the way people are. I mean, granted,
00:29:36
Speaker
i so I thought the same thing going into Silent Hill 2, and that wasn't like a masterpiece. It was just also a very good game. But yeah, otherwise other other than that, I'm excited to play this. And it's only a 10-hour game, which praise be, because I like short games. So I'll be able to get it done. And probably even before spoopy season is over, I'll be able to move into my next game, which is a game you're going to be talking about, which we can move into your

Game Praise: Ghost of Yote

00:30:02
Speaker
games now. you like Yeah, we can. ah Just on Silent Hill F real quick, I was looking. The developer is Neobards Entertainment, and I was curious like what they've actually made before. And it doesn't look like they've made much before. They were assisted on it many games. like They assisted on...
00:30:19
Speaker
ah Final Fantasy 7 remake. and And they assisted on like some other games. But they i don't I think this is their first like lead game. so It has an 86 on Metacritic. wonder if people just have lower expectations because one, it's Konami and they haven't been shit in forever.
00:30:35
Speaker
So like when it's a capable game, they're like, oh, it's so good. When really it's just a capable game. Yeah, I don't know. But yeah, let's get into mine. So I am playing Ghost of Yote.
00:30:47
Speaker
um First of all, I want to give a shout out and a thank you to my boy G.J. G.J. from Discord, of course. um He gifted this game to me. um He actually didn't gift it to me.
00:30:59
Speaker
I'm using it through his game share. So he buys the game on a burner account that he has, and he has that set as like his home console so he can still play on his main account. And I log into his actual burner account.
00:31:10
Speaker
and play the game on that login. It's actually called like GJ's Gooner account or something. But ah but yeah, he purchased Ghost for me. um He just offered, you know, i was I was mentioning in the Discord how like the trip to California really left me super broke.
00:31:27
Speaker
um But I was still gonna buy Ghost and he was like, he was like, I got you. I got you, dog. So he he gave me a Ghost for free. And I was still, I almost bought it anyway, just so I could get the platinum trophy on my account. But I was like, nah, I can save $70. I was like, I'm going to save $70. Yeah, I was giving you shit for being cheap. But then I forgot that you spent like two weeks in California. I was like, yeah, that's expensive. so It was really expensive. yeah everybody We rented a car.
00:31:51
Speaker
We rented a car, which was like $800, and there was a bunch of gas, and there was like eight nights in hotels, and the food in California is ridiculous. Like, we went to Shake Shack, and we just got two meals, burger, fries, and shake, two of them.
00:32:03
Speaker
um And my dad even got the single burger. I got the double. And we spent like $48 on two meals, on two burger, fries, and shakes. I will say. so that's like That's cheaper than like five guys. Five guys here, I got a burger, shake, and fries, and it was literally $30 once. I was like, what? Oh, my God.
00:32:18
Speaker
fuck and like I haven't been there since because of that. I'm like, what the? When did this get so expensive? It's ridiculous, man. yeah um But yeah, anyway, so Ghost of Yote, shout out to GJ. Thank you, sir. You you are the man.
00:32:31
Speaker
um But yeah, I did beat this game. I beat it the other day. The game is phenomenal. ah This game is up there for Game of the Year with me. The two games that are competing for Game of the Year right now are Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 and Ghost of Yote.
00:32:43
Speaker
And which one I like the most will be revealed on the copies. So look forward to that. But these games are virtually tied. I'll say that. They're both super good. um I would rate this game on on Midnight Critic about a 93 is where I think I have Ghost of Yote.
00:32:58
Speaker
um This game is phenomenal. I recommend it to anybody who likes any game. Maybe that's a little bit too open. If you're a fan of Assassin's Creed type games, if you like you know, semi open world. Well, it is open world, but it's not as big as the first game. It's smaller zones that are more densely packed with meaningful content.
00:33:19
Speaker
um One thing that one thing about this game is the first ghost had three very big zones and there was a lot more to do in it. In this game, there's like five, four or five smaller zones and there's less to do in it, but it feels more impactful. Like there's more story driven stuff for each thing.
00:33:37
Speaker
um The game is awesome. The story is is fantastic. um The combat is super fun. The combat's a little bit more difficult than the first game, but it's not too bad. And there is there is easy and even a casual setting. i played on mitt I played on medium, the middle setting, but there's two difficulties lower than that if people want to. like You can go down to easy and then there's even a casual setting, which is like super like instant win if you just want to experience the the story.
00:34:02
Speaker
But it's really good. The graphics are awesome. The cinematography and the music is insane. There's so many times where they'll like zoom out the camera, they'll use letterbox, um they'll play music while you're riding and they kind of pointed exactly at where you're looking at.
00:34:15
Speaker
The visual direction is awesome. It doesn't use the UI that much. It just used visual cues. Not only do you have the wind, of course, um But they just make it real obvious that like, you know, this house in the background or this this mountain in the background is up was where you're headed. It's just obvious by the the design.
00:34:31
Speaker
And it's just incredible. I liked everything about the game. I have zero complaints. um Why is it not 100 out of 100 then? I don't know. What game is 100? It could be better. It's a 93 for me. It probably could have been slightly better, I guess, but I don't know how.
00:34:46
Speaker
ah It was just great. I recommend everyone play it. I love it. um I would have got the platinum if it was on my own account, 100%. This is a game where it's probably not that hard to get the platinum. um You just gotta clear out all the content in the game and you should pretty much get the platinum if you do all the side stuff and unlock all the nodes on the map.
00:35:02
Speaker
You should get it, it shouldn't be that difficult. um I didn't do that, but I did enough. I did a lot of the side stuff. There's a lot of bounties in this game, which is cool. um The bounties have like light stories for each one. You hunt them down, you go find them, and they talk some shit, and you kill them. It's you know some light story stuff, and that's cool.
00:35:17
Speaker
um So you got myths ah where you can get like arm unique armor. ah You got tales where you can get weapons. You got the bounties where you can get money. and And then the main story, and it's just awesome.
00:35:28
Speaker
So I'm not going to say any more. don't want to spoil anything. This is a great game, and I think everyone should play Ghost of Yotei. Yeah, I can't wait to get to this game. i it's i can like Like I said, when I saw the trailers and leading up to it, like I forgot it even came out on the day it came out. like I had just zero hype for it.
00:35:49
Speaker
Because we you and I have talked about like how much we love Tsushima. That game is so good, and like I was obsessed with it. But then Yotei was announced, and I'm just like, eh. I don't know, just nothing did it for me. But then you talking about of my cousin, who's a very casual gamer, like he's kind of like the Call of Duty annual type gamer. Like he doesn't play too many games, but I bought him back when i was making a lot more money. I bought him a PS5. Just I'm like, because you need to play some of these fucking games. Like, because since he was so casual, like he only had an Xbox and like, dude, there are so many PlayStation exclusives like you have to play.
00:36:21
Speaker
and so he played ghost of tsushima first he's like thank you because thank you for getting me this because i'm obsessed with this game and even he's he's playing yotei even before me and he's like dude this game is basically an art piece like i'm like oh my god its because obviously yeah because obviously as everyone knows i'm an an artsy fartsy kind of person so uh i that that is music to my ears to know that it's like an art piece basically so i'm very excited to finally play this game and I did buy it physical because I went to trade in Arceus and Pikmin like I said I was going to on the last episode and GameStop since Pokemon games but especially since Switch games do not decrease in value they gave me 56 bucks for the two games so I got Ghost of Yote for $12.00
00:37:07
Speaker
So i was like, all right, I will buy it for $12 for sure. But i yeah, i'm I'm very, very excited to hop into this game. But I want to know what spoopy games you are playing, Mr. Midnight Esquire.
00:37:24
Speaker
as you do Yes, absolutely. I was typing in Discord. So I did play two spoopy games, of course, and I kept them a secret from you um because it's more fun that

Interactive Movie Game: Erica

00:37:34
Speaker
way.
00:37:34
Speaker
ah The first one, I'm going to say it was a spoopy game. I'm going to do the quote fingers because this isn't really a game, this first one. It's more of an experience. um And have you ever played that game Erica?
00:37:45
Speaker
Have you seen that? No. So there's this game, it's called Erica, it's on PlayStation. ah In fact, it's on PlayStation Plus, if you have that, you could play it for free.
00:37:56
Speaker
um There's even a mobile version that you can get on like iPad, which is completely free, and its its it appears to be literally the full game. It's basically an interactive movie. So it's not really a game.
00:38:06
Speaker
It's an actual movie. It's live action shot with real actors, cinematography. um But it's very interactive. Like they'll have you using the touch display on the controller is how you really interact with it to like make two gestures. Like you'll you'll swipe to the side and it'll flip open the Zippo and then you'll swipe down to like light it.
00:38:23
Speaker
um And you'll like you'll swipe to like this door. I want to go open this door. You can go to that door. I want to go explore that door, cetera. And then it's very seamlessly like it goes into the live action exactly what you picked.
00:38:35
Speaker
And then there's dialogue choices that come up. um And you'll select the dialogue choice and then that's what she'll say. um But basically it is kind of a spoopy game slash movie, if you will. It's a murder mystery.
00:38:47
Speaker
ah You know, somebody is murdered at the start of the game and then you're taken to this this home that your father owned, which is like an insane asylum. Basically, it's like a mental institute and like you're you're staying there for a while and there's some creepy shit going on. That's all going to say. i'm not going to spoil anything.
00:39:04
Speaker
It's very short. um It's two hours or less ah for one playthrough. So this is something that's pretty cool if you want like an interactive movie. um Like I said, if if you got PS Plus, it's free.
00:39:15
Speaker
If you want to play it on your iPad, there's an app version of it that it appears to be. I started it up and like it's like the full thing. At least as far as I could tell. like It starts off the exact same as the game.
00:39:26
Speaker
um So you could do it on there if you want to. But yeah, it's pretty cool. I did enjoy it. You can play it multiple times and get different endings. um I only played it one time because you know time was limited.
00:39:37
Speaker
um I feel like I got one of the best endings. I made some good choices. I was pretty hardcore. was pretty hardcore. I was killed i was killed a couple people. I'll just say that to accomplish my goal. But I feel like I made the right choices because, you know, at the end, you know, my character got out and like some people lived and I feel like I got a pretty good ending.
00:39:54
Speaker
um But yeah, you could experiment with that and do it multiple ways. But Erica, this is something that if you want like a short look kind of spoopy experience where you get to make choices, um I would probably recommend it. I enjoyed it. It's like a seven out of ten is what I would rate It's nothing crazy, um but it's a cool experience.
00:40:10
Speaker
So Erica is the first one. Yeah, just I'm I am going to have said, especially since you so said it's like a basically a movie length. I'm going to play this after I finish Silent Hill before I hop into other stuff. But because just because of two hours at most, I think it was probably less even.
00:40:25
Speaker
Yeah. So if it's if it's a nice short game, yeah, I'm 100 percent going to play this before, cause especially because, yeah, I'm looking at kind of like screen grabs, even though it's just pictures the of the girl. But I'm looking at it and.
00:40:36
Speaker
I'm like, yeah, this looks like a good spooky good way to end the spoopy season. So I will definitely, definitely be playing this, especially since you said it's on plus. So I have access to it because I have plus premium or whatever the high end one is. So, yeah, I'm definitely going to play this one.
00:40:53
Speaker
Yeah, do that. And then when you do, DM me and let me know what ending you got, like what choice and ending you got. to see how it differs from mine. Yeah, for sure. Yeah, but like it'll pop up on the screen, like, you know, confront him or like agree or like there's points where it's like shoot him or lower your weapon. Like you you get to choose what to do.
00:41:09
Speaker
um And it's seamless. As soon as you select it, like the live action, boom. I don't know how they do it. I didn't notice any awkward cuts or anything like just completely seamless, like like it's a full on movie, but you're controlling it.
00:41:20
Speaker
It's pretty cool. Yeah, I mean, that's that's kind of like, um I don't know if anyone's ever played, it's because it's an interactive movie, it was on Netflix called Bandersnatch. It was a Black Mirror movie where you could make choices.
00:41:32
Speaker
And yeah, there was like 13 endings or something. It was crazy. like there You could make so many different choices. And yeah, that's that's that's awesome. Because yeah, I love that. So i'm one yeah I'm definitely going to play this game.
00:41:43
Speaker
I'm going Yeah, do that and anyone listening do that if you want. Like it's literally like an hour and a half. It's not it's not not a big commitment. And it's pretty cool. um I do, at the start of the game there is ah maybe a bit more interactivity than I would like. Like they got you doing stupid stuff with it. Like and you gotta like drag the picture and drag that. But yeah less and less over time, and it's really not a big deal. It's all about making the dialogue and the main choices.
00:42:05
Speaker
yeah The last spoopy game that I am playing, Hodge, you're gonna love this one. Can you guess which game I played?

Alan Wake Remastered Review

00:42:12
Speaker
I Alan Wake. It's Hotch game. But I don't know. Is it Alan Wake? So i did play Alan Wake 2.
00:42:19
Speaker
Nope. Remaster. Alan Wake Remaster is what I played the first one. Hell yeah. I did it right. I was going to maybe watch a synopsis and then hop into 2. But I decided, you know what? I got Alan Wake Remastered. for It was on PlayStation Plus Premium.
00:42:33
Speaker
So I downloaded it. And I played the game from start to finish. I beat it last night. Pause. Talking about the game. And it was good, dude. This is a great game. Really good story. um I love the character of Alan Wake. I love his voice. He really does sound like an, I don't know like an author type dude. He has that vibe about him.
00:42:52
Speaker
Sounds intelligent. um But yeah, it's a really good Doctor and Control. He's the doctor in control. The guy who's in those live action videos in control. he's That's Alan Wake? That's the actor who plays Alan Wake. I didn't even notice that. i didn't remember that. But yeah, it was a good game. It had a good ending.
00:43:09
Speaker
i am I am a little bit confused about the fate of one character in the ending, but I'll talk to you about that off cam, or maybe it's revealed in Alan Wake 2, I assume. um But yeah, know it had a good satisfying ending, which you know I like.
00:43:21
Speaker
Cool characters. I like the sheriff. The sheriff was really cool. um But yeah, I mean, ultimately, this is a great game. I don't want to say too much because I don't want to spoil anything about it. But you know you're you're walking around in the dark in the woods and stuff. You got a flashlight.
00:43:35
Speaker
and and ah you know a gun or two, um and you know you got these these weird shadow spoobs are chasing you and you gotta point the light at them and then shoot them. um And it was pretty cool. I did play this game on easy. I will out myself for this. you know Usually I play games on normal, um but for this one I just wanted to experience the story and time was a factor. I i beat it last night.
00:43:53
Speaker
like I wanted to beat it before the episode. and So in order to make it a little shorter, um i did put it on easy and I played the whole game. It's still actually I died a few times even on easy. ah You do get you get swarmed quite a bit. and Like if you don't play it right, if you don't use like a flashbang or a flare at the right time, you can die.
00:44:09
Speaker
But yeah, no, it's good and I like it and I recommend it. You know, I would give it like an 85 on Midnight Critic or so. It's a solid game. um I do want to play Alan Wake 2 now at some point, but I don't know when I will. It's not going to be immediate, but sometime in the next year, probably, I'm sure.
00:44:23
Speaker
ah Maybe next year at Spoopy Season, I will play Alan Wake 2. it was Was it a game with gold or was it added to PlayStation Plus? Because I know it's available for free right now.
00:44:34
Speaker
or it's It's definitely free on PlayStation because I got it on PlayStation Plus. I have PlayStation Plus Premium. um But it might be on Game Pass as well. It might have been in games with gold.
00:44:45
Speaker
You probably have this free on various platforms because I know that it has been given away before. I think it was i think was this month's PlayStation like free monthly game, if I remember right. So yeah. Alan Wake 2 was.
00:44:56
Speaker
That's what I'm saying. Sorry. That's what was talking about. Oh, yeah. Alan Wake 2 is free now, or was. yeah And I got it. and i got it. I redeemed That's a great deal. Yes. Yes. Shout out to PlayStation giving us good deals on the the free games.
00:45:08
Speaker
Yeah, well, i' I'm happy you played the first one. I mean, yeah I would have been fine if you had just watched the like a good recap. But honestly, i i wonder how do you feel about the gameplay? did it Did it feel dated to you? Because I feel like it would for a new player No, it didn't feel too bad. It felt pretty solid. and and um i I played the remaster, so maybe they tweaked it a little bit, but I didn't feel like the controls were were janky in any way or anything. I thought it was fine.
00:45:31
Speaker
yeah Yeah, I had no no complaints with the gameplay. And the story was good, too. Yeah, that's the the game the I think the gameplay in the second one is way, way better. But ah the gameplay in the first one, I really enjoy. It's fun, but I just love that story. It's very Stephen King-like.
00:45:49
Speaker
I've never seen Twin Peaks, but that's what people say it's like, so I kind of want watch the show just because of that. But yeah, I love the story of the first one, so I'm happy you enjoyed it. Obviously, Alan Wake 2, I think, is a little bit of a better game, but I i love them both, obviously. As everyone knows, I'm a remedy whore, so I love Control, Quantum Break, the Alan Wakes. I love all those games, so...
00:46:13
Speaker
I'm happy you have added another Remedy game to your repertoire. This is the third Remedy game that I've beaten. I beat Quantum Break. I beat Alan Wake Remastered and of course I beat Control. and So yeah, I ah and I am will always live and die in that camp of Quantum Break is insanely underrated. It is a fantastic game.
00:46:36
Speaker
It's a good game, I would say. I don't think it's amazing. It's like ah it's like a 78 on Midnight Credit for me, personally. A little higher for me. it's it's It's the weakest of the four, in my opinion, but I i think it's still a very, very good game. i Actually, when I replayed it, I didn't like the live-action stuff as much as I did the first time I played it through. i was like, this is like a really hokey version of 24.
00:46:58
Speaker
My issue with ah but that game is the gameplay, actually. I thought the gameplay was kind of kind of wonky and quirky. It didn't feel super fluid, and I didn't enjoy the combat as much in that game.
00:47:09
Speaker
um But i thought i I did like the story, and I actually enjoyed the live action. um I like that the live action is a nice break. After you finish like a difficult or kind of spooky chapter, you can put down the controller and just watch like a short show, which is a nice little game.
00:47:22
Speaker
Yeah, i won't say I won't say the live action was bad. It just is a little hokey when you rewi like when I replayed it. I was like, oh, this is kind of ho- The actors aren't the greatest in it. Yeah, yeah. But, sweet. Anything else you got on that, or shall we move on?
00:47:37
Speaker
No, that's it. So those are the games that I played. Ghost of Yotei, Erika, and Alan Wake Remastered. I recommend all of them. I strongly recommend Ghost of Yotei. I do semi-strongly recommend Erica if you want like a spoopy short experience. Like I said, it's not going to blow you away. It's like a 7 out of 10, 75 maybe.
00:47:55
Speaker
But it's short and it's fun and it's spoopy. So why not? Yeah. And I will say one thing actually about Elmig before we move on. The remaster, it was barely a remaster. looked almost yeah exactly like the Xbox 360 game.
00:48:08
Speaker
It did not look any better. Maybe the lighting was slightly better, but that was literally it. It still looked like a 360 game. Now, if they actually remastered it where it looked like Alan Wake 2, that game would be 11 out of 10 to me because i love that game. But with Alan Wake 2's graphics, my God, would it be amazing?
00:48:26
Speaker
yeah Yeah, the graphics weren't amazing, but it was still fun. Yeah, not not not very good. um Anyway, we had a couple write-ins that we wanted to get to before we hop into our topic.
00:48:39
Speaker
And we got two from our buddies. First one, i should have asked this during what we've been playing, but I guess we're still right there. Our buddy Stevie asked saying, can Battlefield keep up the momentum if Call Duty is going right back to Modern Warfare next year? Do you think they'll become do you think Battlefield will also become an annualized franchise or at least attempt to?
00:48:58
Speaker
i don't think they'll become annualized. I think those games are, I think they're very happy being live service where they're around for three or four years before they drop the next one. As for the momentum,
00:49:09
Speaker
I think it'll maybe dip a little bit, but honestly, I don't think Call of Duty looks that good, and I think most people are thinking it doesn't look that good, and Battlefield is beloved right now. So I don't think it'll outsell Call Duty just because the masses always go to what's annualized for them. Like, it's just a habit to play Call Duty, but I think Battlefield might put a dent into it on, like, 2042 or Battlefield V. Like, I think it'll i think they'll do fine.
00:49:36
Speaker
Yeah, shout out to Stevie. We love Stevie. Very cool. Member of the Spank Bank, friend of ours. um Good question. um I would say that Battlefield... i think Battlefield 6 is going to do really well. I think it has done really well.
00:49:48
Speaker
um I know a lot of COD people are more interested in Battlefield than COD this year. um And it's evident from the fact that, you know, us Call of Duty sweats have been asking for Call of Duty to remove or tone down skill-based matchmaking for literally a decade plus.
00:50:03
Speaker
And they've always completely ignored us and told us to fuck off. They've never cared. They didn't give a shit. They're just like, no, you're going to play in arm ah and our sweaty ass lobbies and you're going us money and you're going to like it, bitch. That's basically been their energy.
00:50:15
Speaker
But this year... This is the first time ever that they're relenting and they're like, guess what, guys? The main matchmaking is minimal skill. it's you know It's pure matchmaking and we're not going to break up lobbies anymore. And the reason why they're doing this is because of competition.
00:50:31
Speaker
They're worried about Battlefield. And that's the only reason why they did that. It's also evident because they're giving away Black Ops 6 for free right now because they're wanting to keep people away from Battlefield. They're like, no, and no, no. Our last year one is free. Play that until 7's out. Come on. Come in come play this. so Yeah, you can tell they're scared of Battlefield this year because, yeah, Battlefield has never been competition to Call Duty, but Call Duty's quality has been dipping over the years, as we talked about on our Call Duty episode, which will, again, be out in a couple

Battlefield vs Call of Duty

00:50:58
Speaker
weeks.
00:50:58
Speaker
And, yeah, I think they're actually scared of Battlefield this time because Battlefield is getting a lot of love this year. Other than the campaign. Apparently the campaign sucks, but but no ah no one plays FPS for campaigns. and i don't play FPS campaigns, really.
00:51:12
Speaker
Yeah. But ah yeah, our other write in this one is on the spoopy topic. And our buddy Corey wrote in saying, have any of you ever experienced a ghostly experience or something that can't be explained either yourself or family members who have told you?
00:51:27
Speaker
And can you tell us? um I haven't. But my buddy said he did. i was joking about Ouija boards once. And he's like, dude, don't and but don't mess with those. I used one once and I felt someone push me. And i was like,
00:51:41
Speaker
I don't know. I don't really... well before we get into it, do you have anything or know anyone who's had anything? yeah Let me give a shout out to Corey, my brother from across the pond, of course.
00:51:53
Speaker
ah Love Corey. He's cool dude. But um no, I wish I had an answer for this, but I don't. like I haven't really experienced any ghostly stuff. Now, my mom is very spiritual.
00:52:04
Speaker
ah My mom always talks about how at times like she's been in the shower and she's her but her mother who passed away spoke to her and like she heard her mom say something to her something. Like she's had experiences like that and she she always talks about it.
00:52:18
Speaker
um But ah me personally, I've never experienced anything. Now, do I believe that ghosts exist? ah Maybe. I feel like it could be possible. If you're in an area where there was like some kind of tragedy, like a burial ground or like people, I could see where maybe there could be like some lingering spirits or activity, but I don't.
00:52:37
Speaker
I've never experienced it. Yeah, I'm kind of in the same where it's like I don't I'm not like actively like, oh, ghosts exist. But I am kind of like if they do, I wouldn't be surprised. Like I'm very my yeah, my mind is very open about ghosts because honestly, it's a cool thing to think of like that because I i am a religious person. So i kind of I, you know, believe in life after death. But so I am kind of in that vein of like, is there different kind of versions of her kind of thing? But I was just thinking it would be really funny if your closet door, which is but is cracked down behind you just like slam shut suddenly like ja while we're talking about this.
00:53:17
Speaker
but Yeah. yeah But yeah, thank you for the write-ins. Yes. i I mean, I'm also just I love spoopy things. i On a Netflix, there's this show that just came out called True Haunting, and it's in the same vein of Do you remember those old shows where they'd be interviewing people and they'd have horrible people reenacting what they're talking about? Like horrible actors like, I was in the car and the paint can fell off and they it' just have a horrible video of like a guy being like, oh, and I can't like a...
00:53:44
Speaker
like a paint can falls off the shelf or whatever. It was basically that, but even worse than those. I was thinking like, oh, it's Netflix, so it's going to be like a high quality documentary kind of thing about ghosts.
00:53:57
Speaker
No, it's horribly acted. The plot is stupid. I only made it through the first episode. I'm like, I'm not watching this anymore. This is terrible, which sucks. But yeah, I like the spoopy stuff, obviously, as we can tell by this episode. But Anyway, let's move on into our topic, shall we? have the ghost The ghost of Bucky's.
00:54:18
Speaker
um So we, me Sean and Midnight all chose one video game adaptation horror movie that we were going to watch and discuss.

Movie Adaptation Critiques: 'Until Dawn' & Uncharted

00:54:29
Speaker
Again, obviously Sean is not here, but we are still going to discuss his movie and his his will be done second. But first movie we are going to talk about, I chose ah just to torture everyone because this movie, I couldn't, I watched it earlier this year. Actually, it was only like a month or two ago.
00:54:46
Speaker
And I couldn't believe how stupid this movie was that I was like, I need Midnight and Sean to watch this movie. and that is 2025's until dawn based on the game of the same name released on playstation 4 it has a 5.7 on imdb a 47 on metacritic and a 51 on rotten tomatoes so it is certified rotten on rotten tomatoes um what did you think of this movie quick like uh overview and then we can hop into some of the little dumber finder details
00:55:20
Speaker
So really quickly, and we will be spoiling these. So hopefully you've watched them. Otherwise you can skip to the next movie if you haven't seen it. I don't, cause I, I don't like the the podcast where they do like non-spoiler then spoiler, because you feel like you kind of just hold back for 10 minutes before you're finally like, right, let's get into spoilers.
00:55:36
Speaker
So we're just going spoil it. So, uh, yeah, we're going to spoil all three movies. So use the timestamps. Um, And if you have if you haven't seen any of these movies and you're worried about spoilers, then I guess and you we gave you 55 minutes of ah general talk before. Just skip to the end, I guess.
00:55:53
Speaker
But yeah, so Until Dawn, um I have on here. So i put I took notes because my memory is so bad. So I actually have notes for each movie so that I would remember it. And it's funny. My first note that I have here is the gas station worker was the actor who played the psychiatrist from the game.
00:56:08
Speaker
And then i and then after right after that, I was like, which this fact becomes a lot less of an Easter egg when it's later revealed that he's the main antagonist and you see ah him a lot. Yeah. I thought it was just a cameo as the gas station worker because I immediately was like, oh, that's the psychiatrist.
00:56:22
Speaker
Yeah. From the game. Yeah. i I gave this rating of movie like a five out of ten. It was bad, but it wasn't the worst thing ever. Yeah. Yeah, I mean, I don't know. What do we want to go into first with this?
00:56:36
Speaker
um Well, I guess the first thing we can do, i want to say about this is that, like I said earlier, how I don't like when people are when something's being add ah ah adapted and they're like, we want to do our own twist on it because this movie is a prime example of why that's a horrible idea.
00:56:54
Speaker
Because it but it also did the half assed one where it's like, this is our our own original story. We want to change the lore. We are you you know, we are you already saw the the game play out in the game. We don't want to just redo the game.
00:57:07
Speaker
So we're doing our own thing. But then at the end of the story, at the end of the at the end of the movie, they show Rami Malek, who's the character from Until Dawn. And you're like, OK, so you are going to do this. This is just before that one. So you're lying to us about what what this it was in its own story. It's a prequel story. So I mean, it is its own story, but it's a prequel. So you're not create because like they completely changed. Like so the first one is just about these people.
00:57:33
Speaker
If anyone's played the game, these people who are up in a cabin and basically they start. Well, they there's so they think a serial killer is after them, which turns out it's something else. And then there's monsters. And so it's just you have to survive until dawn.
00:57:46
Speaker
But in this, it's like a stupid Groundhog Day thing where it's like survive until dawn and then do it again, do it again and do it again. It's like you've already changed the lore of it. So even if it is a prequel, what how would does that help work in the in the game?
00:58:01
Speaker
Because it's completely different. what do you What's going on? Yeah. Yeah, it completely breaks the lore from the game because they don't come back in the game. Yeah. yeah's Yeah, it's weird.
00:58:13
Speaker
It's dumb. But, so, yeah. So, the the the game or the movie plot is already nonsense because... But then also it's like... They have that book where they're you know signing in you no sign in every day and their scribbles get scribbly and they get worse and worse.
00:58:29
Speaker
And so it's like everyone before us has only lasted like 16 days or whatever whatever. Like every signature ends after like so it's like it would be one thing if it's like they go mad each night and so that's why their scribbles get worse. But then you find out no, their scribbles get worse because they're slowly turning into the the what are they called? The, the monster thing goes or whatever. Yeah. The Wendigos.
00:58:54
Speaker
And so it's like, So they're just trapped here to transform into Wendigo's, but also there's a lady who transformed into a witch who lives in a house across the street. And now there's a water tower and the water makes you explode.
00:59:09
Speaker
And like, what the fuck is going on? Which, yes, we all right we have to talk about that. The fucking exploding water scene. I remember I shared a clip of it to Discord after it. I'm like, how is this a horror movie? And everyone's like, what the fuck is that?
00:59:22
Speaker
Like, the guy drinks the water, then he explodes. And she's like, ah, it's in my mouth. And she goes to rinse her mouth out. I'm like, no, don't drink the water. She's like, what? And then she explodes. I'm like, what is this?
00:59:37
Speaker
Yeah, I definitely saw that one coming because they were like they were like, we're going to survive by hiding in the bathroom. And then they all drink the water, like all of them. They pass the cup around. Like, nobody wasn't thirsty at that time. They all drink, and then they explode. And that was pretty funny. But it was kind of stupid. um It's funny. That's how they end up finally killing the doctor at the end, though, was from the water, which I thought was kind of cool.
00:59:59
Speaker
I liked that it happened, but it would have been a better moment if they didn't show it, because then she's sitting there like because in most horror movies, if they if they do like a plan like that, where it's like, oh, we just need him to fall into our trap and we're good. And so they're sitting there patiently waiting.
01:00:15
Speaker
And then the guy knows not to fall for the trap and then move on past it. So that's what you're expecting. But then he just drinks it. And it's like, oh, so it would have been better if like we didn't see her do it or didn't know she was waiting for it because then it would make it more impactful. But instead, we're sitting there like like that she doesn't like, oh, he's going to find out and he's going to like dump it out or something or something's going to happen where it's not going to work.
01:00:39
Speaker
But then it just works. i was like, oh, OK.
01:00:44
Speaker
Yeah, this this movie really didn't make that much sense. um I actually, afterwards, like I got on a co-pilot AI and I was like, make it make sense. Like how, how is he controlling like this?
01:00:56
Speaker
Cause I, at first I thought that the doctor had some kind of magical power where like he's bringing people that back to life and resetting the days. um But that's apparently, that's not what's happening. Basically what, what AI said, i guess, you know, from interviews and the director, I guess, is that basically it's just, it's all like,
01:01:12
Speaker
just like a metaphor or an allegory or whatever for mental illness. And it's like, because the main character Clover couldn't admit that her sister was dead. Um, she basically had to get over the fact and recognize and admit to herself that her sister was dead because that's when it finally ends when she, ah ah when she realizes that her sister's dead and she says goodbye to her sister.
01:01:32
Speaker
Um, that's when she's able to survive and take out the doctor and that breaks the cycle. Um, so like, I guess that kind of makes sense, but at the same time, it's, it's just weird how this has allegedly happened, you know, multiple times before.
01:01:42
Speaker
um and the whole thing is just kind of stupid. So, um yeah it was a movie. That's what I'll say. Well, and also... How does that work as a metaphor of like she had to get over her sister or accept her death because her sister got murdered there?
01:01:58
Speaker
So what did her sister have to get over? Did her dog die? Like what? What did she have to get over that she wasn't able to get over that? Instead she's like, all right, I'm dead, I guess. Like, and then, and then also, also,
01:02:12
Speaker
They bring in the serial killer mask person from the game. So now you've broken that lore because it was just, I don't want to spoil who it is and what it is in the game, but it's not this person because this person is designed specifically for the repeating thing who comes into murder.
01:02:31
Speaker
So you undid that too. So they basically destroyed, butchered the lore and then were like, Yeah, this movie sucks, but here's the it's a prequel. orange It's just a prequel. We're going to it's the same with I didn't hate the Uncharted movie, but I didn't watch it.
01:02:49
Speaker
It did the same thing, which so it's not it is, but it isn't a spoiler. At the end, it leads into the first game. And so so they do the same thing of well, the Uncharted movie is a lead into the first game. So the Uncharted 2 movie is going to be the first game, supposedly, is kind of what they're doing.
01:03:08
Speaker
But... the first move the first Uncharted movie has action set pieces from all four games. So you've already stolen the set pieces from the games later on and used them in this one.
01:03:21
Speaker
So you've already destroyed the lore. And they destroyed the lore by the way Nate and Sully meet is completely fucking stupid in in the movie. They completely butcher it from what it is in the games. The games, which you haven't even played the games. You need to still. What game?
01:03:36
Speaker
What? Oh, Uncharted? Yeah. Yeah, I do need to play those. I tried the first Uncharted, and I just got kind of turned off. I'm like, ah, this feels janky. Yeah, not I heard the... I played it back in the day, so it didn't feel aged to me, but apparently the first one didn't age very well for people. but I am going watch a synopsis of one and then jump into two some someday. yeah Someday in the near-ish future.
01:03:57
Speaker
Yeah, I know there's like an eight-hour movie on I saw on YouTube where it's just the cutscenes and like big plot points in the... Yeah, but... I won't be watching that. That's too long, but yeah. I'll watch a breakdown of it, though. Yeah. um Actually, that one might just been full gameplay because I don't think the game is longer than eight hours. So, i don't know. I might have just don't know.
01:04:14
Speaker
Anyway, um Until Dawn. Yeah, this movie like, it it felt like it felt like they wanted to make an Until Dawn or it felt like they wanted to make don't know if you ever have you ever seen the horror movie Cabin in the Woods?
01:04:30
Speaker
I think I have, but I don't remember much. um so It has here's Chris Hemsworth in it. but um it's ah So it felt like they wanted to make a Cabin in the Woods type movie, but they were told to use the Until Dawn IP.
01:04:45
Speaker
like that's this is That's what this movie feels like. It's one of those movies where it's like, I want to make my own movie, but the studio says I need to make a movie of Until Dawn. So I'm just going to say it's Until Dawn, but it's not Until Dawn.
01:04:57
Speaker
Like, that's what this movie felt like. Because it felt like it was more... if you've seen If anyone's seen Cab in the Woods, you realize that not everything is as it seems. And that's kind of what it is with this, where it's like the world is very controlled in a way. It's not so organic how it is in other horror movies where it's just wrong place, wrong time. Like, this is set up to do this.
01:05:18
Speaker
And so it felt like they were trying to do that. And this it's just... movie sucks it's not the worst movie it's definitely the best i think of the three that we've watched uh but know about that all right well we'll get into that after but uh but yeah it's it's a bad movie and parts that are it's one of those movies where parts that are supposed to be serious were not fun were not serious like i should not be laughing at your horror movie unless it's like an purposefully funny moment like obviously there's levity in some horror movies but yeah this was just not good it was not good
01:05:53
Speaker
yeah Yeah, I have nothing

Silent Hill Revelation: A Disappointment?

01:05:55
Speaker
further to add. The movie's not very good. so Yeah, i I'm literally just like trying to think of, like, what else is there to say about the movie? It's like, there's really nothing. There's really nothing else to say. The little Easter egg at the end when they show the cabin from the from the game was cool, I guess. But that's about it.
01:06:09
Speaker
yeah but if that's Yeah, but it's just member berries at that point where it's just, yeah. Hey, member. Remember Long Till Dawn? I'm member. Remember the game that was actually good, unlike this movie? I'm member.
01:06:21
Speaker
Yeah. But anyway, so that's Until Dawn 2025. Bad. um Moving on. We got 2020 12's Silent Hill Revelation, which has a 4.9 on out of 10 on IMDb, a 16 on Metacritic and 8% on Rotten Tomatoes.
01:06:39
Speaker
This was Sean's pick. Uh, and I didn't realize this was a sequel. I didn't watch the first one because I don't want to watch the first one because the this movie is bad.
01:06:51
Speaker
But apparently, yeah, it's a sequel to the first game and or the first movie. And they recast the actress. Apparently, the the girl who's in this movie was in the first one, but played by a completely different person.
01:07:05
Speaker
And even though this movie came out, I think, seven years later, and the actress from the first one was the age this character was in this movie, they didn't cast her for some reason. I think I think i saw it was because they wanted her look more like the garrett girl from the game.
01:07:19
Speaker
And I'm like, but who cares? Like, just keep the girl. You could dye her hair blonde still because that's what they did in this movie. She said there's a line where she says my hair, the roots are showing or whatever. He's like, oh I just redye.
01:07:32
Speaker
And it's anyway, what do you think of this movie? Overall impression? So I thought this movie was was very mid. um I also rated this one a five out of 10, but I like think it's a little better than Until Dawn.
01:07:44
Speaker
I thought this movie was okay. Like the the concept of it was interesting. It was just poorly done, um like shitty. It was a little too campy, really bad special effects.
01:07:56
Speaker
The story was a little bit nonsensical. um And my biggest problem was with the actual ending. Like there was one part of the ending which did not make any sense at all, which I'll get to in more detail in a second. But since you said just overall thoughts, so.
01:08:10
Speaker
Yeah. Yeah, this, uh, there was a lot of shit in here that's just like, so I was reading about this, um, before, uh, let's see, did I write this down? I can't remember.
01:08:25
Speaker
Uh, no, I didn't. But basically the director who did this movie it was a big silent hill fan and wanted to make a very good silent hill movie but there was so much interference between shit and it got caught up so much and you know whatever you know studio shit happened and that she literally to this day still apologizes for this movie like she's like i'm sorry that this is what it was because it's one of those movies where it's like it has the the the creepy which is the the the ah creepy witches with the knives it has pyramid head it has silent hill fog like it just it has all this crap but it doesn't make sense and it's just kind of thrown together and the girl who's the key to everything is the girl who's the key to everything and it yeah it wasn't it wasn't a good movie but uh so what do you want to say about the ending before we can move another other shit
01:09:17
Speaker
Yeah, so in the ending, you know, like, so the for the whole movie, you know, this girl um is hell-bent on rescuing her father ah because she loves her father and she wants to be with him.
01:09:27
Speaker
So she literally goes to Silent Hill to save her father. Despite saying don't come to Silent Hill, yeah. Against his wishes, he says, do not follow me. Do not come to Silent Hill. Just, I want you to be safe. Let me go, basically. He said that to her. She's like, no, I love him and I'm going to go save him. So she goes to Silent Hill to rescue her father.
01:09:44
Speaker
She does. She accomplishes her goal. But then the father is like, well, you know what? I'm just going to stay here with your mother. Yeah. um Who, by the way, she hasn't seen her mother in like, what, 15 years or something.
01:09:55
Speaker
You would think she would want to see her mother. So you would think, one, that she'd want to keep her father and two, that she'd want to see her mother. So maybe she would just go with her father to go see the mother inside and hang out after they defeated the big bad. Right. Why not?
01:10:08
Speaker
But no, she's just like, OK, bye. I'll leave with this dude. And that just didn't make sense. Like that seemed really like stupid and out of character. how she, all of a sudden she doesn't care about him and she has no interest in seeing her own mother who has been gone for 15 years. Like what?
01:10:22
Speaker
Yeah. And then, and then, uh, Like, they have the the thing where, like, the bad side of her or whatever. Like, she's split into two. She's the innocent side and the only one's the evil And it's like, then they combine back into one person and she has the powers and shit.
01:10:39
Speaker
Doesn't she, like, control what's happening in Silent Hill now? Like, can't she just stop it all and be like, alright, there's mom. she's She's here and there's dad. Let's go home. Like, why does she just leave? Like, she's she's suddenly, like, Silent Hill fog Jesus and doesn't do anything with it. Like...
01:10:56
Speaker
yeah This movie's bad. um So I took notes as the movie was going on. And so here is my bullet points of this movie from start to finish.
01:11:07
Speaker
The stuffed rabbit is going to turn its head, isn't it? Yep, it did. Because when she's in the fog, in the dream, that she's looking at the stuffed rabbit, it's just like, dun-dun, like it does the stupid horror movie thing if it turns its head. And then Pop-Tart jump scare, because it cuts to a scene with a Pop-Tart flying out of a toaster.
01:11:22
Speaker
And then why does she stop to stare at a homeless man? <unk>t yeah I like how yours is just completely random ADHD. Oh, it's yeah. if These are literally my thoughts as the movie's going on.
01:11:32
Speaker
Goth chick with huge tits. Ned Stark and Jon Snow are in this movie. Stereotypical bullies in class. Making fun of how she's dressed. I thought she was dressed nicely. There's zombie clown children. This movie must have been released in 3D, which I did. i so i thought that and then I looked up. It was it was it was shot for 3D because you can tell there's so many times where the knife comes at the camera and like, oh, that was to be that was to come at your face in the movie theater. Like that's exactly what that was.
01:12:00
Speaker
ah The P.I. guy already died. Another thing to prove I'm going crazy. Cuts to insane man laughing on the bus. Break into the house without a warrant. And then they say they now have probable cause because there's paint on the wall.
01:12:12
Speaker
The demon girl uses the force because she's walking down the street with but the fog chasing her. And she just goes like, and then a guy fucking bursts into ash. Jon Snow, there's a twist. What a shock.
01:12:26
Speaker
You know, I saw that one coming a mile away. that coming from a mile away. Yeah. I mean, the dude's transferring into the school on the exact same day. so Yeah, exactly. I'm also new. If he was already a student there, like for years, then I wouldn't have really suspected him. But come on, dude.
01:12:39
Speaker
Yeah, exactly. And then ah she she is told that she is the innocent half. so she is So she is Hugo to Barton Hugo. If you've seen that Simpsons episode, you understand what I'm saying.
01:12:51
Speaker
CGI is terrible. Fog looks terrible. The darkness is coming. Run. And she lightly jogs. ah Darkness girl has to die immediately. And then the mannequin monster is just gone. I forgot about that. Yeah, the girl's turning into mannequins. like but So in the game, Pyramid Head captures people and like you know destroys their body and turns them into the creepy mannequin monsters and stuff.
01:13:14
Speaker
In this, it's literally just a naked girl laying on a table, and she's just slowly like turning to plastic. And then it's ahhh! Then she turns into a like plastic monster. And then the horrible CGI monster picks up her head and it screams.
01:13:27
Speaker
I did appreciate, though, that we did get to see some tits. That's always a plus. We did get tits. I feel like my notes were better than yours. Like, yours are just, like, one-liner, like, random thoughts where actually I took, like, detailed, like, notes. but Then I said, Malcolm and McDowell and Carrie Ann Moss must have owed money to the IRS s because why are they in this movie?
01:13:45
Speaker
And then the seal of Megatron turns him into a cool monster that lasts for 30 seconds. Yeah. ah Oh, and then, so they have those nurses from the game, which are very creepy, and they're like, you know, okay and like, yeah walk around like this.
01:14:00
Speaker
But in this, they only react to sound, and they're having a full-on conversation while they're in the room. and Like, you guys need to get out of here quietly, and they're sitting there like...
01:14:13
Speaker
this thing we need to go get this thing and it's like they start moving it's like shut up they're in the room with the things trying to kill you and they're having a full-on conversation uh and then they have an angry hug oh no the angry hug is with their twin then become and then there's a jedi fight between the monsters and then they leave and Yeah, i put I put she has a hug off with Alessa and destroys her, I guess, then goes to her dad.
01:14:38
Speaker
She confronts the leader of the cult, touches her with a symbol, which reveals who she is. Pyramid Head shows up to save her and kills the cult leader. After that, the nightmare is over. The dad randomly says he's going to find his mom, but that she can't come with him.
01:14:51
Speaker
And for reasons that make no sense at all, she's somehow okay with that. Her and Vincent meet together. Then they hitchhike with a semi right off right off in the sunset as police go the other way into Silent Hill, which that also made no sense because, well, maybe it made sense because before, like, you needed a portal to leave Silent Hill, but I guess now that the curse is broken, they could just ride out. Maybe that makes a little sense. I don't know. Yeah. Then I just have five out of ten.
01:15:16
Speaker
Sorry. Five out of ten no would have been better without the nonsensical dad leaving and her being okay with that yeah is what I got. Yeah. Yeah, so apparently

Alone in the Dark: The Infamous Film

01:15:25
Speaker
what I was reading is that the the the police cars at the end approaching, there's also a bus.
01:15:32
Speaker
Apparently that's from a different Silent Hill game. that there's that that That's like how some game, some Silent Hill game, that's how it begins. Like some bus of people get into Silent Hill. And so that's their way of doing the, oh, maybe we'll get more kind of Oh, you remember remember this from the game?
01:15:51
Speaker
I need me. Yeah, so apparently that's what that was. So, yeah, this, I, again, I've only played Silent Hill 2, so I don't know how much of this, other than Pyramid Head and the Nurses, other than that, I don't know how much of this has any bit of accuracy to the, the, um,
01:16:10
Speaker
to the games, but i was reading that basically she was trying to retcon the first movie because the first movie is apparently just completely inaccurate to the games. Like it has nothing to do with the games.
01:16:22
Speaker
And apparently she was trying to make it accurate to the games while not breaking the lore that was set up with the first game. So she basically was like trying to juggle the nonsense of the first movie with the lore of the game.
01:16:36
Speaker
And she's like trying to juggle those two things together. And this is what happened and yeah apparently she still publicly apologizes like sorry i made this movie funny But yeah, ah this movie's bad.
01:16:48
Speaker
So got anything else to add about this one before move on? can move on to the final movie. right. And then finally, we have 2005's Alone in the Dark, based on the game from the same name, apparently.
01:17:04
Speaker
It has a 2.4 out of on IMDb, a Metacritic, and a one percent on rotten tomato this is part This is actually why I ordered them in this area, because we had the 51 to the 8 to the 1 on Rotten Tomatoes. That's why I wanted to go from best to worst, which coincidentally was newest to oldest. So this is the oldest movie of them. This is a 20-year-old movie, apparently.
01:17:30
Speaker
And again, this is another movie where apparently Christian Slater owed a lot of money to someone, because why the fuck is he in this movie? yeah So, Alone in the Dark, did did have you seen this before you chose it or did you choose it purely because it was listed as like the worst movie ever?
01:17:45
Speaker
No, so like I was looking up, you know, horror movies based on a game and I saw Alone in the Dark and I was like, oh, that sounds I didn't play Alone in the Dark, the game. I was like, but that's a cool name. It sounds cool. So I clicked on it.
01:17:56
Speaker
And the only thing that I really saw about it is that it had a one percent on Rotten Tomatoes and is widely considered one of the worst movies of all time. And I was like, say less. That's the movie we need to watch. I'm going to torture everyone, including myself.
01:18:08
Speaker
So I picked that one because we need to experience terrible movies sometimes. I will um say that I had never seen this movie. ah had and I've never played a game either. I do remember that a game based on this one came out because I didn't know actually that the original game was like the the two cops or whatever it was like.
01:18:30
Speaker
thing I had only remembered this 360 game, which had a completely different vibe from the original game. And apparently this game was, or that game was meant to come out in 2005 with this movie. Like it was supposed to be this big reboot of, ah of a alone in the dark and the game got delayed three years and this movie came out and everyone fucking hated it.
01:18:50
Speaker
And so I, uh, here really quickly, my notes on this, I gave up about 20 minutes into this movie of, of taking notes because this movie was just so bad. Yeah. um So 20 minute text crawl voiced over.
01:19:03
Speaker
i've i read it was added because the test screenings all said they had no idea what was going on in the plot. ah So they added the text to let you to explain what was happening.
01:19:14
Speaker
And then the film was originally more faithful to the game. But when Uwe Bolt, who is the director, was hired, the writers all quit because they saw how terrible his movies are. And then he rewrote the story.
01:19:26
Speaker
So apparently this was supposed to be pretty good up until Uwe Bollt was hired on as the director, who is a notoriously terrible director. So I don't know why this man was given this movie.
01:19:38
Speaker
What are some of his terrible movies that he's done? Oh God. I have to check. I just know Uwe Bollt. He made a movie called Rampage, Postal, Blood... Oh, he made Blood Rain.
01:19:49
Speaker
ah In the Name of the King, House of the Dead... and a yeah So he's he's just made really, really, really bad movies. and what he So they wanted it to be like a horror movie, obviously.
01:20:01
Speaker
And he was like, no, I want it to be an action movie. And so that's why you can tell there's the one scene where everyone is shooting guns in the dark and the thing. With the Rob music? Yeah, this heavy metal music comes on. Was that Rob Zombie? I think that was Rob Zombie. I think it was, yeah. I think it was Rob Zombie. And when that came, it was such a tonal shift that I was like...
01:20:23
Speaker
It was so random, dude. I'm like, what is going on right now? Oh my God. It was so terrible. If I can, I think that was the kind of the breaking point of the movie.
01:20:34
Speaker
Cause I actually felt like the first half of the movie was actually pretty good. Like it had Christian Slater. It had a unique setup. You know, they pull up the thing and it unleashes the curse and then people start waking up.
01:20:45
Speaker
I was like, this is kind of cool. um They had, ah they had a shootout or two before that, that was like, reasonably done it wasn't over the top christian slater has like matrix level karate skills yeah like i actually i did think that the first half of the movie i was like why is this the worst movie of all time like it's not that bad it's it's decent i'm interested and then that rock collaboration shootout happened and then all of a sudden like it just jumps the shark and goes crazy off the rails after that and i'm like what the fuck anyways please continue One of my notes is just LMAO Tara Reid.
01:21:18
Speaker
Tara Reid is in this movie, everybody. And she is horrible. It is some of the worst acting I have ever seen in my life, which is hilarious because I guess um she wanted to be in this movie because she was tired of playing like the ditzy blonde girl and everything. So she wanted to play a smart person.
01:21:35
Speaker
But she is the dumbest smart person who's ever been in her and a movie. she Her character is so oh bad and she is so terrible in this movie. I think she won a Razzie for, like, worst actress this year, if I remember right. But it's funny.
01:21:50
Speaker
Yeah. And then the one note the last note I took was apparently don't know. They opened, like, a thing to go down, or you know remember? And then the one soldier falls in and lands on the spikes. And I wrote, the fall would have killed that soldier. The spikes are redundant.
01:22:07
Speaker
Because he fell, like, 200 feet. but um Honestly, I don't even I was so until Dawn and Silent Hill, I was very focused on these movies. Like I wanted to, you know, take it all in.
01:22:23
Speaker
So obviously because we're going to talk about and all this. This movie about halfway through, especially after that action metal scene, my brain just kind of shut off. So I'm going to be honest. I don't really remember the last half this i can i'll I'll read through my notes if you want.
01:22:38
Speaker
okay This is what I have. This is what I took. It's not nearly as detailed as the other ones because it was like so nonsensical that I kind of like whatever. but So I have government agency unit 713. Ancient civilization unlocks a portal or something which allows a monster through.
01:22:53
Speaker
Artifacts were scattered around the globe. Some orphanage group was abducted and experimented on by a former 713 leader, and they became sleepers. Oh my god, dude. really Really quick. The acting of that guy when he's talking to the nurse, like, we need to take these children. That was like it was like porno acting. That was horrible.
01:23:11
Speaker
but Or, yeah, he might be a porn star, who knows. But that was some of the worst acting on top. like Almost as bad as Tara Reads. But anyway, continue. yeah So then I have in the middle of the ocean, some doctor, and I think it was the same doctor actually, finds a shipwreck, hauls up a chest.
01:23:26
Speaker
The ship crew is greedy and opens it, opening Pandora's box basically. This wakes up all the sleepers. They find out there's some alien thing attached to the spines, which controls them. Our main character Edward has one too, but his is dead because he got electrocuted as a child.
01:23:42
Speaker
um and then And then here, i have so this is where my notes kind of break down. Some rock-themed crazy shootout occurs. They all converge on some mine. You see how I completely skip from the rock theme to the end.
01:23:53
Speaker
They all converge on some mine where the Xenos were headed to. Our heroes go down in the tunnel. Find the old experimentation room. Crazy Doctor shows up and opens the gate.
01:24:03
Speaker
They kill Crazy Doctor and then blow up the gate with explosive. And that's the end, I guess. Although it ends with a random attack. LOL. And then I put confused and mid four out of ten. Oh my God. I forgot about that ending where they're like walking down the street. and There's like that really crappy camera and they're just like...
01:24:22
Speaker
And then it freezes. it's like It's like, oh, did they save the day? Did they end it? No, someone dies at the end and it just ends. It's like, oh, okay. yeah Yeah. I was reading about It's like they wanted the ending to be ambiguous.
01:24:34
Speaker
That's not very ambiguous. They got murdered by something chasing them. And what was it? Who knows? The only ambiguous thing was what was it? And it's probably just one of those stupid monster things. And the ambiguous thing is, why did we watch this movie? Yeah. And it's because we wanted to do it for the podcast. Otherwise, we probably never would have.
01:24:51
Speaker
Yeah. Oh, my God. Dude, this one also... I watched it on... um Oh, what was it available on? I can't remember. and think it was like, oh oh it was Fandango at Home. That's what it was on. And it was free to watch, but every 10 minutes, there was five minutes of commercials.
01:25:09
Speaker
So it took me it took me like two hours to get through this fucking movie because it kept cutting to commercial. But... It did allow my sanity to return for like five minutes at a time. And I could get up could get up and go to the kitchen, refill my drink or whatever. Like I was able to like I forgot that commercials are actually helpful for that where you can get up and go do something. but So that's all I would do. But, yeah, there was like legitimately five minutes of commercials every ten minutes or so.
01:25:36
Speaker
And it wasn't like well planned out, you know, where it's like a scene break. That's what it comes to commercial. Like, you know, how they used to add commercial breaks basically. shows and movies. So like, this is a break where you can go to commercial kind of thing.
01:25:48
Speaker
They didn't do that. It would be mid sentence that it would just cut to convert. And then it' would come back mid sentence. I was like, Wait, what were they talking about? Yeah, pretty ghetto. Yeah, I have an Amazon Fire TV. That's what I use. So I just basically was like, you know hey, Alexa, play oh Alone in the Dark or whatever. And it pops up and it tells you what it's available on, which is cool.
01:26:08
Speaker
um And it was available on some free streaming app that started with a queue like Cora something. I don't remember what it was. So I just downloaded this app and sure enough, it was on there. And it wasn't super egregious on this. Like it only had like a 30 second ad every every so often. It wasn't five minutes. So that was nice

Streaming Experience & Platform Availability

01:26:24
Speaker
yeah um because I tried to actually watch this.
01:26:27
Speaker
I tried to watch this using my my pirate streaming that I do sometimes, you know, allegedly, allegedly do. And ah it was in like another language. It was in like Spanish or something. For some reason, the version that was on there. And I was like, well, what the hell?
01:26:41
Speaker
So i had to do it legitimately through a ad service. And funny enough, on the previous movie, Silent Hill Revelations, it definitely was in 3D because when I pulled it up through my pirate streaming on that, it was the 3D version, which it was actually two screens side by side. like So like it was the screen was mirrored ah twice. And I was like, well, I'm definitely not watching this split into two different screens. like yeah So I also watched that through like some free streaming. I think it was 2B. It was on two b Yeah, it was on Tubi and I watched it on Peacock. It was on Peacock. Okay.
01:27:15
Speaker
Because I get Peacock for free through work, which is pretty cool. Oh, you should hook me up. No, I'm kidding. it's But it's the it's the commercial version. I mean, I can yeah make you an account. You can sign in I don't give a shit.
01:27:26
Speaker
But if you want, but it's it's fine. If there's anything you ever want to watch on it, you are welcome to it. I can, I can hook you up. But one day I want to watch Parks and Rec because I never really watched it. Oh, it's so good. Yeah. I'll, I'll send you the login info later. and If you want, i'll admit you know, you're not, no obligation.
01:27:40
Speaker
Well, I don't give a shit. It's not like Netflix where it's like, you're not in the same household. You can't watch this. So I can, I have Paramount Plus if you need it. My brother has it, on which I use, okay but I get that with Walmart Plus for free, which you probably have it now too.
01:27:52
Speaker
Yeah, that's how i got Peacock. Because every 90 days, you're allowed to switch between Peacock and Paramount. so Oh, I didn't know that. Yeah, they just added Peacock. I remember when I was down there for training, they they talked about that. Well, then I'll probably, maybe I'll just switch mine then, and I won't need yours.
01:28:06
Speaker
Because I have Walmart Plus, and I'm always going to have Walmart Plus, because it's awesome. It is. It is pretty sweet. I get it for free, which is awesome. Yeah, really. But, I mean, otherwise, you can keep Paramount, and I can just give you my login. Yeah, we could share both. Either way. Yeah.
01:28:19
Speaker
um But yeah, this movie was horrendous. The acting was terrible. Uwe Boll ball should never make a movie again because he is atrocious.
01:28:31
Speaker
um yeah he's Yeah, he's a terrible director. But, um yeah. you could tell You could tell where his influence took over, I think. I think it was The Rock Shootout. Because he wanted to make an auction he won to make an action movie. And it was like the first half was decent, I thought.
01:28:46
Speaker
And then The Rock Shootout happened. And it was just like fucking crazy after that. I think that's where his influence really started. Yeah, you can because like they said, like when they hired him on at the directors, the writers went and watched his movies. And they're like, this is terrible. Like...
01:29:03
Speaker
And then apparently, like, right when he joined, he's like, I want Christian Slater's character to have superpowers. And they're like, we quit. Like, they straight up just left. Like, they're like we're not doing this movie anymore. Like, we're not. And so, so, yeah.
01:29:16
Speaker
So, yeah. Yeah, really. It's honestly good. Good on those people. So, yeah. Uwe. I think it's Wu-Fay is how you... So he's like Michael Bay, basically, as well. I hate Michael Bay. Michael Bay ruined my childhood with those shitty Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle movies. They're horrible. He's like Michael Bay meets Steven Seagal. Like, he's just horrible. he he tried He wants to make action movies, but they're all terrible.
01:29:38
Speaker
And, yeah, he's a horrible actor. And so, yeah, I really... A 2.4 out of 10 INDB is kind to this movie, because this movie was horrendous.
01:29:50
Speaker
I gave it a 4, but it was mainly just because the first half I i actually thought was fairly solid. um But yeah, it goes so off the rails. I mean, I kind of want to play... I think Alone in the Dark was actually a free PS Plus game, like the the remake one that they did with... um the dude from stranger things. Uh, he plays the main character.
01:30:09
Speaker
w I think it was free. So I actually kind of want to play it because i don't know, this it seems like one of those games that people like a series that people liked. So I wonder if it is good. Like, I don't know what, what from this movie is accurate to the games. I don't know if anything, if anyone is, uh, watching who's played them, please leave a comment. I want to know more.

Ranking the Movies Discussed

01:30:33
Speaker
about like i want to know because like until dawn i played the game and i've seen the movie so i was able to very easily like compare and contrast whereas silent hill i've only played two so i don't and i'm playing f right now obviously but i so i don't really know the lore of silent hill as much even though i know and Well, actually, I i don't know. in In the game, I can't remember if the fog is the same as in the movie where it's like ash.
01:30:56
Speaker
I don't know if it's that or if it's just fog. I can't remember that. I have no clue. But but Alone in the Dark, I really want to know how accurate or inaccurate is Alone in the Dark game compared to the the movie. Obviously, there's a lot wrong because I don't think the movie but games were anything like this, but I really want to know. So anyone who has seen, played both, please let us know because I need to know because...
01:31:21
Speaker
Now that I've had to watch this horrible movie, I must learn. Yeah, movies suck. So do we want to go through and rank them now from worst to best, the three movies? Yeah. So let's go. Yeah. So name yourre yeah like your worst to best, best to worst, whatever you think. ah it goes Yeah, 3, 2, 1. 3, 2, 1. So 3 would be the worst, I guess. So the worst one for me ah was definitely Alone in the Dark. Yeah. That's the same for me. You agree? Yeah. um My number two that I had was actually like so like the second worst.
01:31:51
Speaker
um is Silent Hill Revelations. I thought that was slightly better than the worst one, which was Until Dawn. For me, Until Dawn's the worst. So the worst is Until Dawn, and then Silent Hill Revelations is like in the middle.
01:32:05
Speaker
And then, no, I'm sorry, I just fucked that up. The absolute worst is Alone in the Dark. Yeah.
01:32:12
Speaker
And then the best, fuck, I'm screwing this up. I'm sorry. Silent Hill Revelations is the best one. is the best one Silent Hill Revelations is the best one. Alone in the Dark is in the middle. And Until... Alone in the Dark. I just completely ruined this. so you're lothores Give us yours.
01:32:29
Speaker
So ours are ours are just slightly swapped. So both of ours, worst is Alone in the Dark. middle for you Middle for you is Until Dawn. Middle for me is Silent Hill. And then best for you is Silent Hill. And Until Dawn for me.
01:32:42
Speaker
I'm glad you figured out what I was saying. yeah um's got a stroke yeah I have to go Until Dawn is the best because purely because the exploding scenes were so stupid that they made me laugh.
01:32:54
Speaker
And so I had to I have to do it just for that because also Silent Hill Silent because Until Dawn, obviously, I think it was meant to be, obviously, it's a horror movie, but I think those aren't supposed to be taken super seriously, those deaths, because with it being like a Groundhog Day type movie, some of them are kind of dumb.
01:33:13
Speaker
And so I think that's on purpose, whereas Silent Hill takes itself very seriously. Like, so I think that's really kind of the the the difference between. Because I think, honestly, on like terms of quality, they're probably on par with each other. It's just I found Until Dawn slightly more entertaining than Silent Hill.
01:33:32
Speaker
Yeah, I have Silent Hill as the best of the three, although that's not saying much because I actually rated Until Dawn and Silent Hill both five out of ten. um But there's just a slight nudge for Silent Hill.
01:33:43
Speaker
And the reason why I thought Silent Hill was slightly better is because it does actually tell a complete story from beginning to end that does somewhat make

Future Halloween Episode Ideas

01:33:50
Speaker
sense. Like it's it's obviously not grounded in reality, but it's grounded enough.
01:33:54
Speaker
um to where like it kind of makes sense and really the only like what the fuck moment was like I said the ending where she's like okay you you go fuck off dad and I'm just gonna leave i I no longer care about you or my mother you know yeah yeah but ah yeah and until down just completely makes no fucking sense the whole time loop shit like it does it's not grounded in any real realistic basis at all and they don't even explain it yeah alright so i also have one other question for you alright Ella Rubin who plays Clover in Until Dawn. The chick from Silent Hill who plays, a what's her name?
01:34:31
Speaker
Not Alessa, that's her twin. The other one, the main one, the blonde one. And Tara Reid ranked them hottest the least. Who had the hottest chick?
01:34:43
Speaker
Man, I don't even remember hardly any of them, honestly. I don't even, who did Tara Reid play? I don't remember her. She was the fucking archeologist chick who, so Krista Slater shows up to the museum and he's like, hey, it's me.
01:34:54
Speaker
And then she goes up and punches him in the face. I thought you were dead. Yeah, honestly, i i don't even remember. i can't really write. I'll say Tara Reid maybe was the hottest, even though she's a horrible actress.
01:35:05
Speaker
um After that. You know, I don't know. Silent Hill girl was okay, but she looked kind of young though too. She was 20 at the time, I think. Yeah, I guess she's legal. I don't know.
01:35:16
Speaker
um The goth version of her looked better, of course. You know, I can fix her, know, goth style. The only thing i was laughing about that because the makeup was so bad that literally they just put like black under her nose and she looked like a cat. i was like, what what is the point of that? but and like It's supposed to make her look ghostly, but it just looks like she rubbed some coal under her nose.
01:35:36
Speaker
yeah I'd say all three of them were bangable, but none of them were amazing. That's the important thing. yeah They're bangable, like me in this costume. Absolutely. I wear it.
01:35:47
Speaker
Pause. Anyway, yeah, so this is ah what we do with our lives. um My life is miserable, as you can tell from looking at me right now.
01:35:58
Speaker
Stop kidding. Stop kidding. What am I doing with my life? um Anyway, so yeah, this this was a lot of fun though. i obviously love, as people know, I love Halloween and I love doing stuff like this. I'm going have to figure out what the hell we're going do for next year though because...
01:36:14
Speaker
I mean, well honestly, we what I was thinking, people can let us know and we'll have a year to actually do it. I was thinking we do like a either Resident Evil movie or game or that horrible TV show, like retrospective on all of them. Like just by the time we get to next year year's episode, we have had to either seen all the movies or played some of the games, not all of them, or something like that, where we can just do a full blown episode on like a Resident Evil thing or something. Like

Halloween Costumes & Event Stories

01:36:42
Speaker
do something like that. i don't know, but...
01:36:44
Speaker
Also, one thing I think we should do is kind of keep it game related too, is maybe we could have one spoopy game each that we recommend people play. Ooh. That could be a good one. We could do a movie aspect and also each recommend one game and why for people to play. That'd be Next year. Yeah, we got year figure it out.
01:37:01
Speaker
and Anyway, but yeah, I love doing this. We still got to, I'm gonna have to figure out what we're to for Christmas this year, but ah we're doing Halloween as of right now. So I hope everyone enjoyed this episode and enjoys Halloween as much as we do. And hopefully you enjoyed our, our really stupid costumes.
01:37:18
Speaker
that that we decided to with. Dude, Bucky onesie that you're wearing, though, it's so funny. When we were in Houston for the Last Stand Media like live event, one of our buddies who's in actually the Spank Bank bought that onesie and wore it to the bars after. fe I bet they got love for it. He literally had like girls come and be like oh, i love your Bucky costume. I'm like, hell yeah, man.
01:37:43
Speaker
yeah Everybody loves Bucky's except for Sean. Just because Sean hasn't been there. Exactly. The only people who don't like Bucky's have never been to Bucky's. it's That's just a fact. It's a fact. Also, so oh, I bought i bought a Pikachu pumpkin little guy.
01:38:00
Speaker
This is my Bucky Shrine here. There you go. Yeah, i got a little Pikachu pumpkin for because I wanted to buy had to get Togepi. He ran away for my costume because that's who Misty always carries around. So I had to but then I saw those, so I bought them with it. But yeah Very reasonably priced, too. I mean, this this full Buc-ee's costume, which is full length, like but full body suit, basically, um is only $19.99. Now, i'm I got the fat size. Mine's a double X. So the double X is $24.99, but still very reasonable.
01:38:33
Speaker
yeah So get you a full length Buc-ee's suit, guys. Hell yeah. Go pick up some chicks with it. Chicks love Buc-ee's. Hell yeah. But, yeah,

so that's all I think I got for this episode. I'm happy you were able to join. so i'm I'm sad. We'll have to get Sean's ah opinion on these movies because he did watch them. He did tell us that he watched all three. So we'll have to get his ah opinion. In the next episode. Yeah, he'll give us this quick rundown of each movie on the next episode. but Until then, I'm your host, Steve Hodge, the what I call is ghouls over vampires, saying goodbye for me and... mit ah do you have any final thoughts? I guess I shouldn't have cut you off there.
01:39:13
Speaker
Yeah, I mean, no, not really. My final thoughts are, as always, I'd just like to thank the audience. Thank you guys for your support. yeah Leave us likes, leave us comments. um Guys, if you guys have any recommendations for horror games or movies that you think we should watch or play, leave them in the comments below.
