Season 10 Finale Introduction

00:00:07
theamazingrewatch
hello Hello, everybody. We weren't sure who was going to talk first. Sadie was like. but the yeah and sadie yes yeah Welcome to the finale of season 10 of the Amazing Race and the Amazing Rewatch.

Season Overview and Unique Events

00:00:22
theamazingrewatch
And we are finally at the end of the season. It's been a good one. Thirteen episodes on this one. Yeah. We had mentioned like our
00:00:34
theamazingrewatch
usually the last episode number 12 and all the seasons is like twice as long this one was only like a regular episode but yeah so yeah we did start the season with 12 teams instead of 11. But we had a team eliminated halfway through the first leg. Yes, this is very weird. Yeah, a lot of new and different things on this season kind of mixing things up a little bit. Yeah. And this episode aired December 10 2006.

Final Leg Begins in Barcelona

00:01:10
theamazingrewatch
Yeah, so we left off in Barcelona last episode, and Dustin and Candice were eliminated. So we have our top three teams were Robin Kim, who departed at 11.09 PM, Lynn and Carlin at 11.44, and Tyler and James at 11.53. And their clue says,
00:01:33
theamazingrewatch
Barcelona has a church that has been under construction for 124 years. Find it. Teams must figure out that this unfinished church they're looking for is the Basilica Sagrada Familia. They must travel four miles to the church and search the park behind it, well where they'll find their next clue. here So we had talked about this a little bit last episode. Yeah. I didn't, I knew that, anyway, like if we were there opening this clue, I would have known what it was, but yeah. we we mentioned it last episode. h So we are headed to Sagrada Familia and like everybody asks locals and that everybody knows where it is. yeah So Rob and Cam are the first ones there to get the clue and inside there's a picture of the Eiffel Tower. So Phil says just like they have to fly to Paris and that's about it at this point. yeah And then
00:02:27
theamazingrewatch
Sorry, I have the hiccups. Alabama and James and Tyler. they're at the park looking like, it seems like there's a few parks around this church. So they're like trying to find which one.

Sagrada Familia: History and Delays

00:02:42
theamazingrewatch
but Robin Kim arrived at the airport and the desk doesn't open until 4 AM. So, so we had talked about the Sagrada Familia last time and we just said, it's like, it has taken a long time to build. So, and we didn't know exactly why, but it's cause it relies on private private donations.
00:02:59
theamazingrewatch
and was interrupted by the Spanish Civil War and yeah, COVID-19. Is that really their excuse after 120 years? I know, they were like never expected that to happen but you know by then they should have been done.
00:03:21
theamazingrewatch
In 2014 it was anticipated that it would be done by 2026 but then slowed because of the COVID-19 pandemic and there's an updated forecast of likely completion in 2026.
00:03:35
theamazingrewatch
That's only two years from now. Yeah. It almost like seems like they just don't want to finish it just to say, just for it to be an interesting and cool thing. Like this church is still under construction. And then decorative details and a controversial proposed stairway leading to what will eventually be the main entrance is expected to continue until 2034.
00:03:58
theamazingrewatch
yeah so it's really, really big. Yeah, it looks big. It's got like a really interesting, it like looks dirty. Like it looks like dirt. Yeah. Just like, like mud almost on the outside is what I've always thought it looked like. And it looks like they There are parts that you can see tell that are like the old part but older than like the newer stuff But it has it has very intricate d details Anyways, Anyways, yeah, that's why it's taking so long And so yeah, we're heading to

Final Leg Travel Logistics

00:04:34
theamazingrewatch
Paris. I wasn't expecting to go to another European European city. Yeah
00:04:41
theamazingrewatch
which yeah usually on the final leg, well, they're usually in Asia at this point. So then they make a stop in Alaska, Hawaii, and then go to the main mainland USA. Yeah. So I guess going this way, it's kind of, have to I don't know. i dont Why don't they just go to,
00:05:02
theamazingrewatch
New York City. Yeah. Why do they do the tasks in like three different places? Yeah, that's my big thoughts. Yeah, because then they just like all get on the same plane every time and are equalized. So I don't know. i I've always thought that that's not the best way to do it, but I'm sure they have their reasons for doing it that way.
00:05:20
theamazingrewatch
Yeah, we'll also be our fourth time visiting France in the series and we've been to Paris before so we've told you some information about it before but just a little refresher not too much information.
00:05:35
theamazingrewatch
It's the capital and largest city of France. It has a population of 2 million with an a greater area of more than 12 million. And 19% of the population of France lives in Paris. And it's the fourth largest city in the European Union.

Paris: Facts and Personal Highlights

00:05:52
theamazingrewatch
And it's a major center for finance and culture and fashion and gastronomy. And it has the most visited museums in the world. The Louvre receives about nine million visitors a year. Keep getting, I said nine million visitors in 2023 on track for keeping its position as the most visited art museum in the world. There's a bunch of UNESCO World Heritage sites. It hosted the Olympics in 1900, 1924 and 2024.
00:06:29
theamazingrewatch
They just happened there and it was so much fun to watch the Olympics. Yeah. And it's an amazing city. So yeah. I just went there in January of 2024 and it was cold. Yeah. We enjoyed it. Like it was, it was nice to see like,
00:06:51
theamazingrewatch
all the sides, the Eiffel Tower. We did actually like a guided tour of the Louvre cause it's so big. And so we had like a guide take us around to like the main things in Louvre and yeah, it's pretty crazy in there. yeah what else did we do? We went to same but No, what's that one? The Sacre Cœur. And we put a lock on the fence with our little our names on it. and Yeah. Oh, and we went to Disneyland. Disneyland Paris, yeah which is always fun. That is a fun one. Yeah. It's an iconic city and I think we would have enjoyed it more if it was warmer.
00:07:36
theamazingrewatch
We were really cold. Yeah. And it got dark at like five. So we couldn't be out super late. So we had to like pack in a lot during the day. And it was cold. So I would like to go again at a different time of the year. And we we knew it was going to be cold, but We got married in January, so kind of limits our traveling locations for our anniversary trips. Yeah. I've been in July and October, and they were both great times. October was so cool. That probably would have been perfect. Yeah. Anyways, great place to visit. Obviously, lots of people will there. Yeah.
00:08:17
theamazingrewatch
okay. Well, so Emily in Paris, just because the new season came out. I haven't watched it yet, but it's like such a funny show because like people on Twitter and stuff are so funny because they're like, this is the best dumbest show I've ever seen. I can't even tell you the names of any characters from season three or what happened, but I can't wait to watch season four. I've heard.
00:08:41
theamazingrewatch
I can't even remember. It's another podcast that I listened to, I think. And they're like, Emily in Paris, Emily is like the worst person ever. Yeah. Like if you think, look at it, like objectively, she's not very, she's not a very nice person. Yeah. But I love it. It's so it's yeah the office ladies. Oh, their producer comes sometimes like chimes in. If they ever get on that topic, he jumps in. He's like, she's the worst.
00:09:07
theamazingrewatch
Yeah, but it's such a cute show. I had the best fashion and that's a cute show. Anyways, that just came out. So we are now.
00:09:21
theamazingrewatch
headed to the airport and Tyler and James arrived there and find out that it doesn't open until four. And James is like, we should get on the internet. Like we should do some research. And Tyler's like, he says it has to be 24 hours ahead. Remember? Well, I think he's said like, let's book a ticket. Cause they were like,
00:09:45
theamazingrewatch
And it doesn't open until four o'clock, which is three hours away. And they see on the thing, like the board that the flight is at six o'clock. They don't have tickets yet. So James is like, let's get on the internet. Unless we, he's like, unless we get on the internet and Tyler's like, well, it has to be 24 hours before. So I'm wondering if that was like just a rule in 2006 or is it just

Booking Complications and Strategy

00:10:10
theamazingrewatch
for Paris or is it for the amazing race or?
00:10:13
theamazingrewatch
Yeah, that's what I'm wondering because like we don't really see them get online to book the tickets much. They always are like at the ticketing agent, but it seemed like Tyler mostly just want, I mean James mostly wanted to just like make a reservation.
00:10:32
theamazingrewatch
But I don't know how that's different than booking a ticket. What is that? What, cause they talk about that sometimes in other seasons too. Yeah. Do you have a reservation? like how, why don't you just have a ticket if you have a reservation? I don't know. That doesn't make sense. I feel like this is different because like, if I book a ticket for a client, like it is booked. Yeah. So anyway, so Tyler's just kind of like very,
00:10:59
theamazingrewatch
He's like, what good is it going to do us? Yeah. You know, you might as well get some rest. Fine. And so Tyler and James and Robin Kim just like lay down and sleep in front of the ticket counter and Lynn and Carlin arrive and that opens at four o'clock and they're standing there and Robin Kim are at like the counter first. I mean, Robin came right next to Tyler and James at two different people. yeah And Robin came and get the ticket for the six o'clock flight. And then Tyler and James are told that there's only one seat left. And they're like, how did they get on? and They're like, well, there were three seats. yeah So there's only one. There's a flight, an Iberia flight that has a departure time at 7.25. And then
00:11:49
theamazingrewatch
Because when when when carline arrived they look at the departures board and they saw the six am one and they saw the seven twenty five and then i think it's lind says okay we know there's only two departures yeah.
00:12:03
theamazingrewatch
But they must have missed one because there is a 7am departure on Air France that yeah they tell Tyler and James to go

On the Ground Challenges

00:12:11
theamazingrewatch
do that one. Yeah. So Ron and Cam are supposed to arrive at what time? I don't know, actually. I don't think I wrote that down.
00:12:22
theamazingrewatch
I don't either. Tyler and James are supposed to arrive at 7.25. Oh, it was supposed to arrive at 9.05. And then Lynn and Carlin are supposed to arrive at 9.
00:12:36
theamazingrewatch
or something like that. Anyways, they're all running like not that far apart from each other, but Robin Kim got the earlier flight. But Lynn and Carlin, their flight lands in Orly, not the Charles de Gaulle airport, which is, Orly is apparently closer to the Eiffel Tower.
00:12:54
theamazingrewatch
Yeah, so it's not the biggest airport, but it is, it still has like quite a few, it's quite a busy airport, but it's not as big as and Charles de Gaulle, but it turns out that it's a little bit closer to the Eiffel Tower, which for them, lucky for them, they get to the Eiffel Tower first. So when Robin came arrive and Tyler and James arrive, they just take the train into the city, because they're told by people, like it's too bad of traffic.
00:13:23
theamazingrewatch
And then Lynn and Carlin take a taxi and they get there first. And they have to get to the third floor to find the next clue. And when they get up to the third floor, Rob and Kim also get up there about the same time. And they're like, always surprised that Lynn and Carlin are there. They get placed as fast is what they said. And that clue says travel 145 miles by train to the city of Cannes. Not Cannes. Yeah. that's I think you said like Cannes.
00:13:52
theamazingrewatch
It's C-A-E-N. Yeah. Not C-A-A-N. C-A-N-N-E. Oh, yeah. Isn't that what how Canis spelled? C-A-N-N-E-S. Yeah. Once there, they must make their way to this airport where they're where they'll find their next clue. So then James and Tyler are the last to get to the Eiffel Tower. And like while they were waiting for their flight, and they realized that they weren't going to get on that same flight as Robin Kim,
00:14:17
theamazingrewatch
they kind of argue a little bit. Cause James is like, I told you we should have done something. Like, yeah, we should have done something about it. And Tyler's like, well, you should have spoke up. And he's like, I did. He's like, well, it wasn't loud enough. Yeah. This is the first time that James has really been like upset about anything. Yeah. He seems pretty chill and like go with the flow and yeah. But if he, he's like mad that James and Tyler didn't listen to him and Tyler's like, well, you didn't speak up loud enough. yeah Okay. Okay. Apparently I have to yell.
00:14:46
theamazingrewatch
It doesn't make that big of a deal because like we said, we have several flights after this that are not going to. Yeah. Like, anyway, so. Because they all have to go to the train station and they all get tickets on a 1225 train to that city. So. And the train arrives, they all jump in cabs and go to this airport and Tyler, it's like a small, like a small airport. Yeah. Tyler, you're going to be skydiving. Yeah.
00:15:14
theamazingrewatch
you're on the last leg of the race and you come to an airport. full of little planes. Don't you think that you're going to be skydiving? Tyler and James arrive first. The clue is a roadblock. It says who's ready to storm the beach. So one person must brave the skies over Normandy. Both team members will fly to a height of 13,000 feet. The one team member must do a tandem skydive with an instructor while their partner is treated to a surprise aerial nosedive. Once on the ground, the skydiver will take a Jeep, will be driven by a Jeep to the Bayou
00:15:48
theamazingrewatch
by, uh, by yo, by yo, bao bail bail. It's B A Y E a, oh e a train station where they'll reunite with our partner. So Tyler gets to do the skydive because James has done more roadblocks. Robin Kim arrive, Robin Kim arrive and rot Lynn and Carlin arrive and
00:16:13
theamazingrewatch
it's just so weird that people don't get like yeah what's gonna happen but but him so this is the 13th roadblock though yeah so at this point shouldn't they each have done so six and either of them could do it well i don't know because remember there was that one where like they didn't even have a roadblock but they did but do they count that i don't know that one was really weird so i don't know But it seemed like he had a chance to do it if he wanted to. Yeah, because he was like, I think we might be skydiving. And then, but they're like, Kim has to do it or Kim will do it. Kim says, she just says, I'll do it. She doesn't say I have to do it. She just says, I'll do it. And then she opens it and she's like, skydive. And she's like, I'm so sorry. And he's like, dang it. That's like the only thing I really wanted to do.
00:16:59
theamazingrewatch
I'm so bummed right now and she keeps saying I'm sorry and he's like mad. So Carlin does it. Tyler Carlin and Kim are doing it. And it's not like a situation where you have to pull a tab and like go in order. Kind of seems like they all go at the same time and it doesn't really make a big difference and they all land and get into They meet at the trains train station. That nose dive looked scary. I think that'd be scarier almost than the skydive. That's what I was going to say. i think Especially if they don't know about it. yeah You're just like, the plane is falling out of the air. I've been watching Lost.
00:17:36
theamazingrewatch
so Yeah, plane crashes around. And so they go back to the train station and that clue says travel by train 163 miles back to Paris. Once there, you'll make your way to the city's, one of the city's major squares, Place de la Concorde, where teens will search for the next clue. So they find out that the first train leaves at 5 23 PM and all teams get tickets for that train. But Rob and Kim are like, we need to exchange money. They asked the, like the train ticket person and he's like, you can do it at the post office. So they leave and they're like, yeah, we have time. We can go do this. He said it's only a 10 minute walk. Yeah. But meanwhile, Tyler and James and Lynn and Carlin are at the train station and a train pulls up at five 10. Yeah.
00:18:27
theamazingrewatch
And they ask several times, they're like, is this the train to, cause I have to go back to that con and then to Paris. like Like, is this the train to con? Is this the train to con? And everybody assures them, yes, it is.
00:18:41
theamazingrewatch
And so they're like, it's early, it's early, but they get on it. And so you're like, did Robin Kim miss their train? Yeah. But then they get back and they're like, where is everybody? But the train pulls up at 523. There must've just been two trains. Yeah. Cause they end up being at the con station at the same time and all getting get on to Paris on the same one to Paris.
00:19:06
theamazingrewatch
So it did make it seem like it was like so terrible. like Yeah, there they made a mistake. Yeah, the train. But they were fine. The train pulls up at 5. Oh, yeah, the 523. They all get on it, go to Paris. They get off the train, run into taxis and go find that square where there's a clue. It's not that hard to find. And it's a detour. The choices are art or fashion.
00:19:32
theamazingrewatch
So art is teams will pick up a painting at an art gallery and take it through the streets of Paris to an artist who will hand them their next clue. And fashion is teams travel on foot to anatomy fashion studio where they will create a jacket using the provided tools and materials. They have to cut cut and pin the material to a mannequin and then the designer will approve their work.
00:19:57
theamazingrewatch
and I definitely would not have chosen fashion. I know. So it surprised me a lot when all three of them chose that. I didn't even question if they should do the other one. I was surprised as well. Was it late? Because they they're they' are trained didn't leave until 523. Do you think that was a factor in them deciding all to do fashion? But they all didn't even like talk about the choices. They just all said let's do fashion. which Tyler and James were like we're models we do fittings all the time. I know that was someone like at first I was like oh they're gonna do art. art yeah They said fashion they're like we've been fitted a million times like okay that one makes a little bit more sense. yeah But all the other ones chose fashion as well.
00:20:39
theamazingrewatch
Yeah. So they're in there. They're all basically doing it at the same time. Kim, she's like telling Rob every time. She's like, don't touch that. Don't touch that. And he's like, do you just want me to stand here? And she's like, yeah, pretty much.
00:20:50
theamazingrewatch
I know it is one of the ones that is kind of like you have to have somebody really leading the way on this one. Yeah. I wonder if there was more direction to the art detour because all it said was take it through the streets of Paris. It didn't say how far yeah or anything like that. If somebody had chosen it, would they have given us more information? Cause I want to know how long it was, but they don't even tell us. Yeah. I mean, if it says take these,
00:21:16
theamazingrewatch
five miles through the streets of Paris and yeah so so yeah I don't know they have to I mean it's not that hard to find the art school or art studio and fashion studio yeah sorry I'm at fashion studio and they all get there like we said about the same time and Lynn and Karlin are the first ones to ask for a check and they get told no. yeah And then Kim and Rob get told no. Tyler and James are actually the first ones to get the clue. Yeah. And that one says travel over 3,000 miles to your final destination, New York City. Once on the ground, find the news building with the giant globe where their next clue will wait for them.
00:22:03
theamazingrewatch
So they're like super excited to see your final destination. Oh my gosh. And so they had, they get in a taxi and say, go to Charles de Gaulle and head that way.

Dramatic Airport and Flight Coordination

00:22:12
theamazingrewatch
Well, then Carl and finish and they get a taxi and they say, go to Orly. Yeah. Which I was like, they, I mean, they had really good luck with that last time. So I, I understand the, the logic behind that, this one did not yeah work out for them. and They even say, they we pray this will work for us again, and then it's like that. Yeah. So if we were in this situation, I think we'd both know that the other airport would be a better choice. Just, I mean, if you don't, if you've never been there and it worked out for you so well the first time, like i I'm not like saying they don't, they're not smart. It's just like, that's not it' the place to go when you want to play internationally your airport. And if you're flying to New York city on a, like,
00:23:01
theamazingrewatch
another major airport, yeah there is likely going to be a nonstop from Paris to New York. But not at a smaller airport. yeah So Robin, Kim finished. They also tell their driver to go to Charles de Gaulle. And Rob is still whining about not being able to skydive at this point. And Kim's like, I thought we were doing this to win a million dollars, not to skydive. yeah And he was like, why are you yelling at me?
00:23:27
theamazingrewatch
Why are you yelling at me? Like he did it like that. He like looks at her. Why are you yelling at me? And like immediately gets, why are you yelling at me? So you know weird. it's like this And she's like, quickly don't talk to me anymore. I'm done. And I'm like, yeah, they.
00:23:45
theamazingrewatch
Anyways, they get to the airport, Tyler and James find out there's an Air France flight that leaves at 8.25 and arrives at JFK at 10.15 AM. But they're told there's only a business class left and they're like, we can't fly business class. So they get on an economy wait list. And the lady says it's like a very yeah bit waitless long. So meanwhile they buy tickets on a continental flight, landing a new work at 11.55.
00:24:13
theamazingrewatch
Yeah. And then when, and when Lynn and Carlin get to Orly, they're told right away that there are, oh, there are no direct flights to New York city from this airport. And they're like, Oh, And they're like, well, what flights are leaving from the other one? Can we get tickets? They're like, not at the airport. Air France is full. And like, can you put this on the wait list? No, not from this airport. So they have to go to the other airport, which is not good.
00:24:43
theamazingrewatch
Yeah. Well, I mean, they have time because it doesn't leave till the next morning. But also when other teams are starting to get on waitlists and finding out more information, that's like very detrimental at this point. And when Robin came get there, they found out the flight is full as well. And they're like talking to a different ticket person and they're like, please help us. Like this is worth a million dollars. We have to get on this flight. And the person's like, maybe the manager at the checking will want to help you.
00:25:09
theamazingrewatch
And so they like go and find somebody and they're gone for a long time. And Rob and Kim are like, oh my gosh, this is so like stressful waiting to see what's going to happen.
00:25:20
theamazingrewatch
and They're like, this guy comes up in a suit and he's like, I can get you on the flight. And they're like, oh my gosh, thank you so much. so They don't know about what any of the other team situations are. So they're like, I think they thought that the other teams were on that flight and they weren't going to be on it. yeah But they ended up being the only team with tickets at this point.
00:25:45
theamazingrewatch
who So that was very lucky of them. They found the right person. Yeah, for sure. And because, but I mean, if the wait list was long. Yeah. And there was already, yeah, they just like jumped up the wait list by a lot. Yeah, when Lynn and Carlin get there, the counter's closed at that point. So they have to wait till like 4 a.m. to even get on a wait list. And so that's even longer. And they're like, how does it look? How does the wait list look? And the lady's like, very bad. I was James or Tyler that asked that. He's like, how's the wait list looking? Very bad.
00:26:17
theamazingrewatch
Go wait over there. They're like, oh no. So yeah, James and Tyler and Lynn and Karlin are both waiting. Rob and Kim are boarding the flight and the two other teams are just like standing there. They like can like feel yeah the tension and like the stress and they're just like, oh my gosh, it's going to come down to a plane ride and they have their backpacks on. it's like They're like staring down like the ticket eight. They're not being rude or anything. They're being like super patient, yeah but they're so, they're like, this is all coming down to a plane ride. yeah And Rob and Kim are feeling pretty good about themselves at this point. yeah And they're like, we've got this. We're going to win. And then suddenly somebody says, who is James?
00:27:03
theamazingrewatch
and Tyler and James end up getting on that flight. yes And Lynn and Carlin look so i know devastated and I feel so bad for them. And they go to another agent and they're like begging them, please, we have to get on this flight and stuff. And they're being really kind, but they're like begging and they don't get on. no There's nothing we can do.
00:27:26
theamazingrewatch
So when Rob and Kim see Tyler and James come on, they're like, oh shoot. he And Rob says, we are really bummed to see you guys. So that basically counts out Lynn and Carlin completely. That was the nail in the coffin for them.
00:27:44
theamazingrewatch
which is really sad because they've done really well, especially these last few legs on their own. Like we had said a couple episodes ago, like the six pack helped them at some points, but once they lost the six pack, they actually were starting to do better on their own. That might've been a hindrance.
00:28:03
theamazingrewatch
and there were like points where Carlin was like super angry and had like really negative attitude and Lynn was like trying to stay positive but overall they were pretty calm and they were navigating well and just like the whole the whole mistake was going to the other airport.
00:28:25
theamazingrewatch
yeah first.

New York City Taxi Race

00:28:27
theamazingrewatch
So I feel bad for them. Yeah. It might not have made that much of a difference. I don't know. I guess if they would have got there before James and Tyler, they would have been higher than them on the wait list. Yeah. So anyways, so we're not going to see them and until the finish line. It's so sadly. Yeah. We like don't even see them at all. Yeah. But there's no other tasks to do.
00:28:49
theamazingrewatch
We've already done the roadblock. We've already done the detour. So now it's just the plane ride. And then they arrive in New York city. They hop into taxis. James and Tyler's. driver knows where he's going, but Robin Kimberly's does not really. He's like, I'm not quite sure where it is. So they're like, follow that taxi. Do not lose him. And James and Tyler are like, lose their taxi. And so their driver does try. yeah He like pretends to get off an exit and then just like cuts back. But the other Robin Kimberly's driver follows him. He's like, I'm going to give him the Dodge. but yeah
00:29:23
theamazingrewatch
So the thing that makes a difference is when Tyler, like there's a toll booth coming up ahead and there's a choice for like easy pass or you have to pay. And Tyler and James's driver has easy pass and Robin Kim's doesn't. Yeah. So Tyler and James can just like go on through quickly and Robin came and they have to wait in the line and pay with cash. yep And so they lose Tyler and James. And at that point, Tyler and James like get a better lead. They get to the news building, which seems like a pretty popular building that they are like people people know where it is. Yeah.
00:30:01
theamazingrewatch
and The clue says, using only this picture for reference, teams must make their way two miles on foot to the New York neighborhood of the East Village and find this sculpture, the Alamo, created by in 1967 by renowned local artist Tony Rosenthal. Once at the sculpture, teams must locate this woman in a yellow cap who will hand them their next clue.
00:30:22
theamazingrewatch
So Tyler and James, are they're saying that they know the city pretty well because they've been there a million times for work and stuff like that. And they've actually been to the East Village yeah and kind of know where they're going. And they are like, East Village, that's like two miles away. yeah So they know it's really far and they have to do it all on foot. And it's starting to rain. Yeah, and they're wearing their huge backpacks. At that point, they should have got rid of their backpacks. Probably came really, oh, sorry, what? They're not gonna need them anymore. yeah Rob and Kimberly do arrive at the news building and they get the clue and they start to run and Rob's like, okay, this is what we've trained for. Let's go. Like he's like, we've done this before. It seems like, I mean, if I was going to be on the race, I would put a heavy backpack on my back and go run two miles, you know?
00:31:10
theamazingrewatch
So they're going and they are like confident that doesn't seem like they're like really stopping. Tyler and James have to stop and walk a little bit. So it's like, oh man, they could catch up to them. and they both have to like stop and ask people.
00:31:26
theamazingrewatch
like for more specific directions. Tyler thinks it's in this Aster neighborhood. And then he asks someone and they're like, oh, it's Union Square. He's like, well, that's... He's like, that's a completely different place. Yeah. And then Robin came ask someone and they're like, it's in the Aster neighborhood. So Tyler was right. Yeah. And the he he is confident they just end up going to Aster. Like he seems like he knows where it is.

East Village Sculpture Hunt

00:31:49
theamazingrewatch
So they get there first and the clue says to convince a cab driver to take you to Garrison, New York in Putnam County. It's 56 miles away once they're traveled to St. Basil Academy. This is where the finish mat is and the first team to arrive will win the million dollars.
00:32:09
theamazingrewatch
So we've had, lines in New York before the ones, the first season and then season eight, the family season, but it wasn't New York city. It was like New York state, yeah like up by Niagara falls, right? Yeah, that sounds right.
00:32:32
theamazingrewatch
But this one, like the finish line is not New York City, but we did visit the East Village, which is a different area that we've been to. So I just found out a little bit of information. It's not much, but it's on the East side of Lower Manhattan. It's defined as east of the Bowery and Third Avenue between 14th Street and Houston Street. It has three sections, Alphabet City, Little Ukraine, and the Bowery.
00:33:03
theamazingrewatch
Initially, the East Village was occupied by the Lenape Native Americans and was divided into plantations by Dutch settlers. And the East Village contained many of the city's most opulent estates. estate But by the middle of the century, it grew to include a large immigrant population.
00:33:24
theamazingrewatch
and had an area that was referred to as Little Germany. And by the late 1960s, many artists, musicians, and hippies began to move into the area, and the East Village was given this new identity. And since least at least the 2000s, gentrification has changed the character of the neighborhood.
00:33:46
theamazingrewatch
So just a little bit about that area. I feel like every neighborhood has a really unique history in Manhattan and New York City. But we leave New York City to go to the finish line, which is in Garrison.
00:34:04
theamazingrewatch
which is in Putnam County, New York. So it has this Saint, what is it? Saint Basil. Basil's, it's

The Finish Line: Tyler and James Win

00:34:13
theamazingrewatch
like a home for children, like a, I think like an orphanage kind of thing. But this town is in the Hudson River Valley. To have a finish line. Yeah. I know. It's, it's like a, an orphanage. It's an academy though. Saint Basil's Academy. Yeah. But it's,
00:34:36
theamazingrewatch
institution for children and families in need. But this so this town is in the Hudson River Valley. It's by West Point Academy. it looks It's like a really pretty area.
00:34:49
theamazingrewatch
And it's a long way for a taxi to go, which is why the clue says, convince a cab driver. That's interesting. On the Amazing Race, not no, on the Garrison, New York Wikipedia page, it says, the sound those towns served as the finish line of the Amazing Race season 10 in 2006. That's funny. It's their claim to fame. Yeah.
00:35:11
theamazingrewatch
They're so close to New York City, but nothing ever exciting happens there. So, okay. Well, the first cab that Tyler and James stop, he doesn't quite know where he's going, but he has a cell phone and like a way to contact and a map. So they're like, okay, like if we go in the right direction, we'll figure it out on the way. So it was kind of a risk, but it makes sense because you have some time to figure it out.
00:35:41
theamazingrewatch
And Robin Kimberly hop in a taxi, and their driver does seem to know where he's going. And like they're getting closer and closer to this area, and James and Tyler are like asking out the window. They're like, where's St. Basil's? Where's St. Basil's? And like people are pointing him in the direction. And then you cut to Phil on the mat, and all the other teams lining up at the finish line. And the cab pulls up. You're like, who's going to me?
00:36:09
theamazingrewatch
Yeah, because it's like Tyler and James left first, but the other cab driver knew they were going. yeah And so it ends up being Tyler and James jumping out of the cab and running to the finish line. And we have all the teams standing there, cheering for them, and they win the million dollars.
00:36:27
theamazingrewatch
you which is super cool. I've liked Tyler and James the whole time. I would have loved to see a girl team win, obviously. And I liked Lynn and Carlin, but I have liked Tyler and James the whole time. I think that they've been like really good guys. I just have like such a bad memory of the boy team from last season, Eric and what was his name?
00:36:54
theamazingrewatch
I don't even remember now. Anyway, they were such like sexist, gross, like yeah guys. Tyler and James have been like really respectful yeah and like nice to other people. And like, they didn't even like flirt very much with the blondes or anything like that. You know, they are just, and they kind of kept to themselves and they didn't, you know, sabotage anybody or whatever. Anyway, so I'm okay with them winning the first place. I wanted them to win more than Robin Kim. Oh yeah.
00:37:21
theamazingrewatch
So yeah, I'm happy with this, but they win a million dollars. They run up onto the mat and Phil says, four continents, 13 countries, 40,000 miles. That's- You're the winners of the amazing race. And Phil pulls out a phone and says like, you can celebrate with your families. And so he calls Tyler's mom.
00:37:45
theamazingrewatch
who is sitting there with James' dad. Did you see those eyebrows? James' dad's eyebrows were like the best thing I've ever seen. They were so long and like pointed upwards. They were like villain eyebrows. Oh my gosh. No, I didn't even notice that. But yeah, so Tyler gets to say, mom, hey, like we won the amazing race and it was kind of awkward and like you can tell it was
00:38:09
theamazingrewatch
I mean, obviously it's staged because the parents were waiting there together, waiting to hear the news. I know. It's like, were all the families just waiting there? They must have been. In case. And just in case. Yeah. Yeah. So Rob and Kimberly then get out of their cab and they run up and they're still like hoping that they're number one, but they see Tyler and James on the mat and they're like, dang it, the boys are here. Yeah.
00:38:32
theamazingrewatch
So they run up and Phil says that they are team number two. And he says, you guys have said that your life together is contingent on winning this money. And we said that last episode and Rob's like, no, it's not like we want to start our life together. We love each other.
00:38:48
theamazingrewatch
Yeah. So they seem like, you know, it was, we, we've had thoughts about them the whole time. Like sometimes they work well together. Sometimes they definitely don't work well together. Sometimes, you know, it's just, yeah, they're, they did well enough to get to the final leg and be second place. Yeah. And I wonder what would have happened if their cab driver had the easy pass.
00:39:15
theamazingrewatch
Cause I feel like Rob and Kim could have beat Tyler and James on like that two mile run to the statue. Yeah. The sculpture, whatever. And then their cab driver, they found me where they

Reflecting on the Final Leg

00:39:26
theamazingrewatch
were going. Yeah. So then Lynn and Carlin just arrived at the mat. Yeah. I'm like, how long were they standing there? Yeah.
00:39:32
theamazingrewatch
Cause it looks like they're all standing in the exact same spot. Yeah. Like how long do they, like, did they go do stuff and then come back? Like we have to wait here for four hours for them to get here or yeah, let's go eat some food and then everybody reconvene. And so the, this final leg bothered me cause me too.
00:39:52
theamazingrewatch
We had so many equalizers. They were equalized the whole time and they did all their tasks in Europe and all they had to do when they got to New York was get to the pit stop. but Go to that one sculpture and then go to... Yeah, but no tasks, nothing. like yeah it' Just get to this place and get to the pit stop and or the yeah the final mat. and I don't like that. I feel like you need to have something that... Something right before the finish line that's like... people can either catch up or it will slow people down or it just makes it a lot more exciting. And when it comes down to a cab ride, it's not that exciting. yeah A cab ride and only a cab ride. Yeah. So also it would have been really boring if Robin came or the only ones on that first flight. Yeah. It would have literally just been them.
00:40:37
theamazingrewatch
Yeah. Just like, Hey, we're here. So they're lucky that that didn't happen for production purposes, but you know maybe that's maybe I don't know. I don't think they do. I'm pretty sure it's illegal for like production to like interfere in any way like that. But like, Hey, you know, you could let these guys on. That's exactly what I was going to make our show a lot more exciting. I know they didn't do that, but it's like, also they're like, these people, they need to get on this flight or it's going to be a really boring finale.

Season Recap and Countries Visited

00:41:08
theamazingrewatch
But yeah, so the 13 countries, can you name all of them? Okay, so we started in China and then Vietnam. Where's one after? Oh, Mongolia. China, Mongolia, Vietnam, Thailand. Did we go to Thailand? No. India. And from India, we went to Mauritius. There was one before that.
00:41:34
theamazingrewatch
Oh, it was a new country. Kuwait, Kuwait, Mauritius, Madagascar, Ukraine, or Finland, then Ukraine, Finland, Finland, Ukraine.
00:41:46
theamazingrewatch
then there was one after that. Morocco, Spain, France, USA. That was really good. I know. I couldn't have done that. I've been writing down.
00:41:57
theamazingrewatch
and Yeah, so it was a good route, I think. Yeah, it was. We had got to a lot of new places, really interesting places, went back to a few repeats were China and France, but in India and Vietnam, I guess. So yeah, I guess there was a few and half and half like Mongolia, Kuwait, Madagascar. Those are really interesting. yeah That was pretty cool. So, yeah, I really liked this route. Yeah, it was, I wouldn't say it was like my favorite season. I feel like none of the teams are, I was like,
00:42:36
theamazingrewatch
Oh, I just love them. Yeah. But there wasn't like very many that I'm like, Oh, I hate them. Yeah. So it was just kind of mid. Yeah. well, do you want to find out what happened to everybody after the

Final Three Teams: Noteworthy Facts

00:42:51
theamazingrewatch
race? Yes. I know you do.
00:42:55
theamazingrewatch
So something interesting is this is the first time that the final three consisted of an all-male team, an all-female team, and one co-ed team. So that was kind of interesting. Yeah. And we'll start with Lynn and Karlin, because they were third place.
00:43:14
theamazingrewatch
So...
00:43:16
theamazingrewatch
Their average was five. So that is actually one of their like trivia.
00:43:26
theamazingrewatch
they're The lowest average of an all-female team to cross the finish line plagued me in the final leg with five. Okay. so they definitely were very, they took fifth place, like one, two, three, three times. They took sixth, fourth, third, and then the last two, like second, second, third. So they're, you know, really just kind of middle of the road, but they hung in there, which is all that matters. and again, they were the first all female team to reach the final three. And by extension, the first all female team to cross the finish line.
00:44:08
theamazingrewatch
They were the first team to win or sorry, the first team to reach the final three without winning a leg. Hmm. So they never got a first place. Well, and the first team to finish the race without winning a leg, which is kind of the same thing, but,
00:44:25
theamazingrewatch
this is the first time we've had 13 roadblocks in a season. So we did have 13. we didn't see but we didn't see one of them. So Lynn did six and Carlin did seven. So that's why I was saying like, I wonder, it seemed like any of them could have done. so maybe the reason that James was like, I've done more roadblocks. Maybe he already had seven and Tyler only had five. So I don't know. Lynn has,
00:44:58
theamazingrewatch
Where'd it go? Right there. Lynn has a Facebook. She actually like, has a lot of friends with racers from her season like David and Mary and like pretty much anybody that has a Facebook. She's friends with on Facebook, she doesn't post a lot. Her last post was like a profile update on January 4th 4th and there's really like no, really any information about her. Apparently she does live in Tampa, Florida now instead of Alabama, but Carlin doesn't have a Facebook or an Instagram or anything. I can't find her.

Post-Race Updates

00:45:36
theamazingrewatch
So Robin Kim, I want to know what you think happened to them. What are your guesses? I think that they got married and then divorced.
00:45:49
theamazingrewatch
They did not even get married. They broke up after the race. Good. Not that I don't think they're not good people. I just don't think they were a great relationship. Yeah. Wait a second. This one says their roadblock count was 12 and they each did six. I'm confused.
00:46:08
theamazingrewatch
Oh, because they did the fast forward. Oh, so they didn't have to do that roadblock. OK, so they so at that point, why was he so freaking mad that he couldn't do the skydive? I don't know. Their average was three. They took first place twice. They did pretty good. They were third place one, two, three, four, five, six, seven times. So that's why their average is three. Yeah. yeah, they broke up after the race. Rob got married in 2015. Kimberly also got married. she has a Facebook.
00:46:52
theamazingrewatch
And she looks exactly the same, but she has two daughters and a son. They're super cute. She has a in-home spray tan business. Oh yeah. That's the first thing. Oh yeah. I see it right there. That's fun. And Rob, also I'm pretty sure last episode when we talked about the Cabs arriving and they had Rob's name. I said Rob Santiago. That's not his last name. His last name is DS. I don't know. I said Santiago. Santiago. I don't know. He, Rob is...
00:47:32
theamazingrewatch
Like real estate, he owns like a construction company and he does like all the interior design and his partner does like the construction and they're like luxury homes in Southern California. So he's, he probably made some millions. yeah He's got white hair now.
00:47:50
theamazingrewatch
So yeah, looks like he's doing well. They're both doing well. Did they just talk together? That's good.
00:47:58
theamazingrewatch
And then Tyler and James. Oh, actually, hold on. Let's see if there's any interesting trivia about Robin Kimberly. They had attempted to apply for the amazing race a few times, but something kept happening with their application. So they got a chance when casting attempted to recruit Kimberly for survivor, but she said, I don't want to do survivor. I want to do the race. So,
00:48:24
theamazingrewatch
They placed 3rd, 7 out of 12 legs. They placed 3rd, 6 legs in a row. That's kind of crazy.
00:48:30
theamazingrewatch
That's pretty much it. That's interesting about them. so Cool. And then, t and Tyler and James just said, Tames and Gyler. We haven't done that in a while. I know. We used to do it all the time, but... Getting better. Yeah.
00:48:50
theamazingrewatch
they have a race average of 2.5. They took first four, well three times and then the finale. They took second one, two, three times. They had those two legs where they were kind of like towards the back and took six out of seven. But other than that, they were either for a second or third. So they did really well. yeah they came to be on the race.
00:49:18
theamazingrewatch
when a casting recruiter scouted James at a restaurant. like a And he's a model, but it's just like how models are found at the mall.
00:49:28
theamazingrewatch
And then after the race, Tyler appeared in an episode of CSI Miami.
00:49:35
theamazingrewatch
What's wrong? James worked as a part of an art department for a few films. James has gotten married and has two children and currently works as a photographer. So Tyler, his Instagram is private. And his Facebook is only pictures of dogs and very rarely updated. So I did see he posted a picture of James in 2011, though.
00:50:00
theamazingrewatch
Oh yeah, I didn't go back that far. So hopefully that means they're still friends. Oh, I see it there. Yeah. But 2011 wasn't long time ago. I mean, that was 13 years ago. But it is after the race, so they probably stayed friends. Yeah. They stayed friends after the race. But James got a way better haircut and has a super cute family, two little girls, it looks like. Super cute wife and his photography.
00:50:30
theamazingrewatch
I guess like fashion photography. I don't know, but oh, there's some naked ladies,
00:50:38
theamazingrewatch
which is not free fashion. No, it's on his website. oh It's just like their backs and their bums as they sit by the water. Yeah. So.
00:50:53
theamazingrewatch
That's what our final three teams have been up to. Seems like they're all doing pretty well. Nice. Which is what we like to hear. Yeah. And what what else?
00:51:06
theamazingrewatch
yeah, I think like just what we said, it was a pretty good season. It wasn't like the most exciting, but it was good. and yeah, it was, we've made it to 10 seasons, which is a big deal for us. So we're going to record like a recap of the first 10 seasons and do kind of just like a

Upcoming Bonuses and Season 11 Plans

00:51:25
theamazingrewatch
bonus episode. Yeah. Like pick our top 10 teams, top 10 tasks, like do it like a top 10.
00:51:32
theamazingrewatch
yeah top 10 of the first 10 seasons. So look out for that and let us know what you think about these first 10 seasons and how like how you think it's gone and we'd love your feedback and hear what you guys think too. And we've just had a lot of fun doing this. So yeah we're gonna keep going. and So we're August, September, October. So we'll do season 11 in October and it's the all-star season. So that's gonna be super exciting. I can't wait. So come back in October for season 11 and thanks for being with us for season 10 and all the previous seasons. and
00:52:13
theamazingrewatch
We'll see you soon. Bye.
