Roadblock and Detour Challenges

um Okay. So, Megan and Shane are the first to depart at 8.17 a.m. They had the fast forward last episode, so they're pretty far ahead of everybody else. The clue says, choose a briefcase and travel by taxi to the Dubai Creek Golf and Yacht Club and search the boardwalk for your next clue.

So they get to the boardwalk and find the clue. I don't know why they had to have a briefcase. Oh, wait, I do. i was like, you don't? That's like definitely part of the task. Now I remember.

The roadblock is, ah says, who's ready to row, row, row your boat? So they have to row an inflatable dinghy to a yacht anchored offshore and find the sheik who will present them with a watch, which is an Arab custom of hospitality.

They'll return to the dock to open the briefcase. And to unlock it, they need to figure out that the time on the watch, 8.35, is the combination to you the briefcase. So Shane is going to do this roadblock.

And then we have the next few teams that leave. So Megan and Shane at 8.17. The next one is Brian and Erica at 9.59.

And then flight time and big easy at 1042. So we have like a big gap here between the first few teams. And then Gary and Matt at 1045. And they're really they're making comments about how hot it is outside.

So, yes. Last leg they showed us it was 120 degrees. Yeah. So it's hot. That'd be really hard. seems unsafely hot. And I hope that they give them water. Yeah. And, you know, like how would they do that without water?

Yeah. I can't even go 10 minutes without drinking sip water. In fact, I'm going to do some right now. So Shane finishes the roadblock and it says, make your way to the Abra station, a water taxi station in the old Souk section of Dubai.

He figures out the watch combination thing really easily and quickly. Mm-hmm. When the other teams get there, Brian does the roadblock, which I think he's done everyone except the ducks.

I feel like this season is, to me, it just seems like the same people are doing the roadblocks. Lopsided. Well, I can tell you. Yeah, he says, Erica does not do water. Like, oh, okay. Well, some people have to be out of their comfort zone. Yeah, I know. It's like, why do you even do this if you're so... And it's like the one where Shane said he was going to do the roadblock. I feel like he's done all of them except for the duck.

No. And then Micah and Kanan at 11.54. So there's like a what, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, almost four hours from the first and the last team. Yeah. Yeah. So they are very spread apart.

So I'll be interested to see what happens like with the check-ins at the beginning of next episode. But um Megan and Shane are at this next clue, and it's a detour, and the choices are gold or glass.

So for gold, they have to find a jewelry store and use a precision scale to weigh out exactly $500,000 worth of gold. To do this, they'll to figure out that they need to divide $500,000 by the gold exchange rate shown on the monitor in the store. However, the rate is constantly changing, so they'll need to work quickly.

And then glass is go to a spice market and choose a crate full of disassembled Middle Eastern smoking pipes known as hookahs. They must utilize all the parts from the crate to assemble 12 hookahs using three display hookahs as their guide.

So i think we would do the gold one. I think so too. It's not that hard to figure out that calculation. And I've panned for gold before in Alaska two tiny little like like like size flakes. It was like twenty dollars of gold.

Yeah. Wait, Megan and Shane choose glass. Yeah. They get to the detour and they start assembling the hookahs and pretty quickly Megan is getting frustrated. Um, back of the roadblock, um,

People are finishing that. Like, Gary's finished. Brian's finished. um Big Easy is doing the roadblock. He's, like, struggling to row. doesn't even use a paddle. He just is using his arms and, like, yeah, swimming with his arms.

And Dan does the same thing. Yeah, he arrives and sees Big Easy doing that. So, he just, like, does it. So Big Easy finishes rowing back at the dock and this is when you need to look at the watch and do the combination.

And Dan comes up like right behind him and so does Tiffany. And um Big Easy messes up here because he thinks that the combination is supposed to be like the little hands on the eight, the big hands on the seven And the date is... Is the third number. The third number, which is... I don't know what number he said it was. Yeah, like six or something. But it's supposed to be like 835 or whatever. Yeah. 834. the big hat and hand is on the 7, but that means it's 835.

so So he struggles with that. All the other teams get it pretty quickly. so Did you hear flight time when he says, if we stay here long enough, Lance and Carrie will arrive? yeah They're eliminated.

Yeah. um He's being super supportive at this point. And Big Easy is not giving up. But flight time has been like, he's like really like ah like your teammate, you'd get like frustrated and annoyed or whatever. But he's just really nice and positive.

It's like, don't say that. Because she does comment at the beginning. Because they have like a green hose and then a green striped hose. And he's like, do you think they match with this or whatever? Yeah. So, Mike and Kanan also choose glass when they get the clue. um Like we said, Sam and Dan, they have calculators with them. They said that before they came on the race, they were at Walmart and they grabbed like a $2 calculator and put it in their bag. Yeah, it was just kind of like a last minute thing. That's really smart. But totally like helped them so much in this.

Well, because and they were there at the same time as Maria and Tiffany and Maria and Tiffany had to be in a separate room and Maria and Tiffany figured out how to do the equation, and but they saw that Sam and Dan had a calculator. So they worked together and they figured it out. They had to do it a couple of times because the number changed, but they were, I mean, they were able to get it pretty quickly. so um When Flytime and Big Easy finally, he finally figures it out and they go to the,

crew and they choose glass. um At this point, Megan and Shane are getting to it the Atlantis Resort. And they do the slide. So once you you like walk up all the stairs of this temple-like looking thing,

And it's a really steep drop, six stories it says. And the drop goes underneath a shark tank type thing. So you can like see a shark swimming above you, but you're not going in the pool the sharks. No, you're like in. But Megan thinks that there's sharks in there. yeah She's like, there's sharks. She's like, i was so scared, but you just have to do it.

And then she like gets to the bottom of the slide. She's like, there's sharks in here. Yeah. It's like, no, there's not. But, and then it says, search for the Dolphin Bay Beach to check in at the pit stop.

And so they're team number one. And they win a personal watercraft. Yes. Which I assume is like a jet ski. Okay. Okay. At this point, flight time and Big Easy arrive to the detour. So the two teams who chose gold, Sam and Dan and Maria and Tiffany, have finished on their way to the pit stop.

um matt and gary are struggling because they can't find the tongs that have to go on top of the hookah they're like had to get all their pieces out of this wooden crate filled with straw straw so they're like it's like finding a needle in a haystack and matt is having a hard time because it's really hot so he has to sit down and take a break and gary's like yeah sit sit down um And Brian and Erica finally finished the detour. And at this point, fly time and biggies are like, they've been here for two hours.

So they made a lot of progress. and That's why like this didn't make sense that they were like all clumped up at the detour. Because i was like, you guys all left hours apart. Yeah.

it's Like you just wait till you see the situation and then you might change your mind a little bit. And I wouldn't have liked it if he did that. And I don't, he probably would have got disqualified if he pushed her down the slide. I know. Cause that's probably like a safety. There was like a lifeguard standing at the top who doesn't do anything, but there's, he like picks her up and tries to like push her, put her down the slide. And she's screaming, help me, help me.

And so fly time and big easy check in as team number six. And at this point, Micah just walks down the stairs and she's like, he's going to hate me. He hates me. i know he's going to hate me.

And so they check in as team number seven and it's not a non-elimination. They get, they are eliminated. Yeah. Yeah. so And Kanan says he doesn't hold it against her because it could have been him crippled by fear for something, but yeah I don't know if I believe him. He says there's freedom in forgiveness and in understanding that no one is perfect.
