Weekend Football Disruption - Storm Interruption

00:00:10
Global Sports Podcast Network
Hello and welcome to the Daily Liverpool Podcast brought to you by the Global Sports Podcast Network. I'm your host Jesse Sawa, and we were hoping to bring you all the action from Saturday's Mergeside Derby, but I'm sure you've gathered by now. It was called off due to the storm tearing across the yeah UK over the last few days.

Podcast Preview - Premier League Focus

00:00:29
Global Sports Podcast Network
So in today's episode, we'll run through some of the action in the Premier League, especially from that chasing pack at the top of the table. We'll also look ahead to Liverpool's remaining fixtures for December, as well as those for the chasing pack. And we'll bring you the latest in the contract saga involving our big three players. Joining me on the pod to talk about that and much more is Adash Ramchun. How are you doing Adash?
00:00:54
Adarsh
Yeah, all good. of gutted, yeah, we didn't play a match this weekend, much needed rest for the players. So kind of kind of good to like just watch the rest of the football without any pressure, to be honest. So yeah, looking forward to
00:01:03
Global Sports Podcast Network
True. Yeah, absolutely. Okay, let's get

Man City vs Crystal Palace - Title Race Impact

00:01:05
Adarsh
it.
00:01:05
Global Sports Podcast Network
straight into things. The Merseyside Derby was postponed due to bad weather on Saturday, which means that the chasing pack had an opportunity to close the gap on the Reds. Manchester City were the first up, a away to Crystal Palace, but Guardiola's men could only come away with a point from Selhurst Park with a 2-2 draw. They also had Rico Lewis sent off, so he'll miss a game as well. um Adash, Adash, did you see the game City vs Palace? What are your thoughts?
00:01:35
Adarsh
Yeah, I managed to catch the highlights. Yeah, the City just don't... Well, I mean, we've kind of had the conversation already. They just don't look themselves. They look a bit lethargic all over the pitch, but credit to Palace, they had to obviously take their They just look vulnerable at the back. I've never seen City look as vulnerable as they are at the moment. And I think when you when you look back to City teams from the past, they wouldn't really give you a chance because they would just keep the ball or they would they would press you out of the pitch. So I think, yeah,
00:02:02
Adarsh
Creditor Palace, obviously, having gained a point, obviously, there towards the bottom of the Premier League. So they every point is is vital for them. But yeah, City, they don't they don't look the same team. And yeah, I mean, I don't want to write them off in the title race. I don't know where we're going to have that conversation. But they just don't look the same. So I don't know what you thought about the match.
00:02:20
Global Sports Podcast Network
you still can't write them off yeah i agree i think that in terms of the actual game itself they they do remind me of the Liverpool team of a couple of years back when our midfield, their legs just went.
00:02:33
Global Sports Podcast Network
And so I'm not sure if it's really the back four of City that is the issue. I think what it is is that they're now just completely exposed.
00:02:43
Adarsh
yeah
00:02:43
Global Sports Podcast Network
Whereas before you had that kind of shield in front of them that protected that back four just like we did a few years back but when Henderson and Fabinho and Tiago they just all kind of fell off a cliff all at the same time our back four was really really exposed and they looked terrible whereas if you look at it now we've essentially still got that same back four same back five at Liverpool but our midfield now has been sorted.
00:03:07
Adarsh
Projuvenated.
00:03:09
Global Sports Podcast Network
And so, yeah, we've we've, know, we've got the best ah record defensive record in the Premier League.

Liverpool Leading the League

00:03:14
Global Sports Podcast Network
So I think that I think that that's probably the case at City.
00:03:20
Global Sports Podcast Network
They've dropped points again. There are eight points behind us now, and we've got a game in hand. And obviously, the temptation is to think that, OK, if we win that game in hand, which is Everton, that puts us 11 ahead.
00:03:34
Global Sports Podcast Network
And you're right, I think that there is that kind of nervousness to say that City are out of it. I think more because of the stage of the season that we're at. I think if this is February, even late, even kind of late January, February, and you've got a eight to 11 point lead, you probably think they should be out of it.
00:03:44
Adarsh
Yeah.
00:03:51
Global Sports Podcast Network
But I think in December, when things can really change so quickly between now and the end of the month, that kind of festive period where the games come thick and fast.

Man City's Title Race Challenges

00:04:02
Global Sports Podcast Network
And so, you know, as a six and nine point lead can be whittled down to yeah two or three points. So I think that they are still in the in the race.
00:04:12
Global Sports Podcast Network
What I want to ask you about, though, Adash, is Pep Guardiola. Is this the first time that you've seen him rattled? You know, he's commented on, obviously, we saw him at Anfield giving the six gestures, commented on slots, very tongue in cheek comment about 115 charges.

Guardiola Under Pressure - Reactions and Comments

00:04:32
Global Sports Podcast Network
then for some reason, picks up a fight with the last person you want to fight with at the moment, which is Jose Mourinho, who's like, sat out in in Turkey.
00:04:42
Global Sports Podcast Network
you know on on his sun lounger all of a sudden merino is like on the on the back pages of all the english press jose comes in two-footed hits back with a comment at least i won my titles cleanly beat them you can't beat them
00:04:56
Adarsh
Yeah, I mean, the one thing when you that I have to respect about Jose Mourinho is his one-liners. You can't beat them. They're so good, aren't they? And he just finds a way to get depressed, like, talking about him.
00:05:07
Adarsh
It's just brilliant. But on Guardiola, I think, yeah, he's clearly rattled, I think. it's quite easy to say that a lot of in past seasons things have gone their way injuries they don't seem to have had major injuries to key players they obviously seem to have all all their players fit firing at the same time as well so i think it is definitely a period of time where he feels rattled and i think he probably doesn't know the answers at this moment in time which is clearly why he's taken it out on other people he looks like agitated in the press as well so i've never really seen him
00:05:38
Adarsh
I think it's a good thing for the Premier League. I think he needs, like, he's won four Premier League titles. He doesn't need, you know, it's good, it's good for the Premier League that he's going through this period. But yeah, I'm enjoying the him seeing, seeing him rattled because I mean, the six fingers, I don't really get a chance to speak to it, speak about it last week, but I just absolutely loved it.
00:05:56
Adarsh
I mean, who, why would you do that? I mean, he's got hes unless he's referencing, referencing the six Champions Leagues we've won.
00:06:03
Global Sports Podcast Network
All the six defeats that they had.
00:06:03
Adarsh
I don't really know what he's talking about. Yeah, so I think yeah, easy he's clearly lost his head.
00:06:09
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, I thought that he was he he just and he just hasn't been through this before. I just don't think he knows how to handle this kind of run that he's on. So it's going to be interesting to see where they go from

Arsenal's Missed Opportunity - Fulham Draw

00:06:26
Global Sports Podcast Network
here. But let's move on to Arsenal because they were the visitors to Craven Cottage.
00:06:31
Global Sports Podcast Network
an in-form Fulham. And just like Man City, they had to settle for a point. A 1-1 draw leaving them six points behind Liverpool. Again, we've got a game in hand. They had a sack of goal right at the death ruled out by VAR. That's got to be a blow for Arsenal. You know, Liverpool aren't playing. This is the chance to close the gap. Surely two points dropped.
00:06:57
Adarsh
yeah no definitely especially i think if you look at the overall game i think they probably dominated the game say dominated in a slightly light way because their main chances always come from corners and i don't think from open play they look to fret terms of domination they kind of had a lot of the ball full of more threat on the counter attack as well and i thought they took their goal really well him and s so yeah definitely two points dropped i just this arsenal team they're not i mean we're going to come on to chelsea in a second but From an attacking point of view, their players are not as scary as Chelsea's, I think, when you look at the threats that Chelsea have got. Yeah, we'll talk about them in a second. I just think from open play, they they lack creativity. Unless they have a set piece and they can stick all 11 players in the box, then I don't think they're a threat.
00:07:39
Adarsh
But definitely two points dropped. I mean, this was a good opportunity for for for them. like we we weren't We weren't playing. They could put the pressure on us. And now it's six points. And we've got a game in hand. We could extend that to nine ahead of Arsenal. I think that's massive. for out of it it's It's a lot for them to catch up.
00:07:53
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, I mean, you mentioned that set piece, they had another set piece goal for Mikel Pulis' team. Sorry, Mikel Arteta.
00:07:59
Adarsh
yeah
00:08:01
Global Sports Podcast Network
I mean, joking aside, I suppose it is ah ah it's a good weapon to have if you're not playing well. And, you know, you've always got that in your locker, Declan Rice.
00:08:11
Global Sports Podcast Network
I mean, he does deliver some really kind of wicked in-swingers. And Arsenal have the size in their players to attack those deliveries. But you like I said, I agree with you.
00:08:23
Global Sports Podcast Network
I just think that I don't think they've got enough variation um in their play at the moment.
00:08:27
Adarsh
Mm.
00:08:29
Global Sports Podcast Network
They they look fairly one dimensional.
00:08:31
Adarsh
Yeah.
00:08:32
Global Sports Podcast Network
And Fulham, I've got to say, I mean, bearing in mind that we're going to be playing them soon. And we obviously will talk about that in a in a later part of the podcast. But they're a really good team. And I think Marco Silva is doing a great job there. And I was looking at their substitutions. They put on Harry Wilson and Pereira in midfield. So, you know, even in terms of the squad, they're developing a really good team there. So maybe you could say that Arsenal maybe did well to get a point, but I just think that when you're chasing,
00:09:03
Global Sports Podcast Network
I think if Liverpool went there, they if they went there and they're six, seven points ahead and then you get a point, I think it's different.
00:09:11
Adarsh
Yeah.
00:09:11
Global Sports Podcast Network
I think when you're chasing and the leaders aren't playing on that weekend, you have to take advantage. You've got to get three points, know, to put some pressure on them.
00:09:21
Adarsh
Yeah and just to add to that I think if you're part of the chasing pack you need to take the game to the opposition as well you can't just sort of you can't really go behind in those games you can't really rely on set pieces and I think the one thing you mentioned like it's it's a great weapon that Arsenal have in terms of their set pieces but I think there's a big difference between it being a weapon and it being you're over relying on those and I think their last three goals have come from set pieces from corners
00:09:27
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:09:46
Adarsh
There's going to be a moment in the season where they're not going to be able to rely on that as much. And they're going to have to break teams down from deep from deep and yeah. I just think they they should have really taken taken taken this opportunity. But I mean, from a Liverpool fans point

Spurs vs Chelsea - Inconsistency and Potential

00:09:59
Adarsh
of view, I'm not really complaining. And it was just hilarious seeing that offside goal at the end.
00:10:04
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, I mean, you know, we we we hadn't played when kicked a ball. But, you know, we we were looking at all the ah ah our opponents dropping points. So Man City drop put drop points, Arsenal drop points. And then the last game of the weekend Spurs versus Chelsea.
00:10:27
Global Sports Podcast Network
Spurs race into a two goal lead, and to nobody's surprise, go go on to lose 4-2. I mean, what what can you say about Spurs that hasn't already been...
00:10:38
Global Sports Podcast Network
I mean, as a neutral, it's great.
00:10:40
Global Sports Podcast Network
It's brilliant entertainment because you just you literally don't know what kind of Spurs it's going to turn up. Is it going to be the team that demolished Man City 4-0 or is it going to be the one that were kind of abysmal against Bournemouth and lose 1-0? I mean Chelsea went into this game on an impressive run and they've cut the gap now to four points.
00:10:40
Adarsh
Mm.
00:11:04
Adarsh
Yeah, i really I mean, to be fair, I'm really impressed with Chelsea. I think they, if you compare it to Arsenal, at least I can see a style of play. I can see they're creating chances from from the open there. They've got so many different threats. They can hurt you in so many different ways. You've got Palmo who comes into the pockets. I think their midfield is really strong. I think it People say Chelsea aren't in a title race, but if I look at that midfield, that could be a title winning midfield. It is really, really strong. Caesado, Lavia, Fernandez, and ah Fernandez is chipping in with goals as well. He's been brilliant since I think the last international break. Tottenham on the other hand, I mean, they're just, it's just, it is same old Tottenham, but I think they just, there's they just go in another level of like how much they can disappoint you and
00:11:47
Adarsh
being 2-0 up, if that's any other team, they're kind of, they're going to be on the front foot or hold on to that 2-0 lead, but with Tottenham, they just give you a chance. And I think Chelsea will come back into that game, but Tottenham, I mean, they didn't help themselves, giving away two sloppy penalties.
00:12:03
Adarsh
They're defending, yeah, it's all over the place, but fair play to Chelsea. And they they I definitely think they're in this title race. andm I'm not sure what you think if they're in the title race.
00:12:12
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, I agree. I think that so I think Job Mareska has done. You really have to give him credit, you know, because he came into a Chelsea with that was just chaotic. And he's kind of bring he brings a sense of calm to the team to the squad. He shipped out players that he didn't want like Raheem Sterling and he was criticized a lot but he's you know he's he's got this team really playing and functioning well he's getting a tune out of Jaden Sancho as you mentioned Enzo Fernandez and Kaiseido they've got this a really good partnership going now and a bit of consistency and so I mean if they're not already challenging
00:12:56
Global Sports Podcast Network
They will surely challenge next season because they've got a young squad and The one thing that they will not have that all the other teams are gonna have and and we're going through that is the injuries You know Chelsea have got the depth to go through an entire season multiple fronts. So, you know, I think Chelsea are banging it. I think they there have to be there four points behind. And so you have to say that they are in the title race at the moment. Okay, it's time for a short break. And we'll be back right after this message.
00:14:05
Global Sports Podcast Network
OK, welcome back.

Liverpool's December Challenges - Premier and Champions League

00:14:06
Global Sports Podcast Network
Let's now look ahead to what December has in store for the Reds. It's a month that yeah mean such a crucial period of the season, this fixture congestion, particularly over that festive period. And we start with Tuesday, and we've got a trip to Girona in the Champions League. And we'll be doing a full preview of that game in tomorrow's episode. And then this is December's run of fixtures after that.
00:14:32
Global Sports Podcast Network
the Premier League we've got Fulham at home on Saturday the 14th 3 p.m. kickoff and then on Wednesday the 18th of December 8 p.m. kickoff away to Southampton in the quarterfinals of the League Cup We've then got a trip to Spurs, Sunday the 22nd, a 4.30pm kickoff, and then a Boxing Day home game against Leicester, that's an 8pm kickoff, and then Sunday 29th of December, a way to West Ham, a 5.15 kickoff.
00:15:09
Global Sports Podcast Network
That's what December looks like for us, Adash. How do you view those fixtures and you know what kind of points tally are we looking to get? I mean, is it just a case of just winning every game?
00:15:26
Adarsh
I think so. i think I don't see why this Liverpool team gives us a reason why they can't win all these games. ah think Obviously a Newcastle game aside, I think we've been consistent, we've been solid defensively. I think that Newcastle game was a bit of just a crazy game and sort of Newcastle just turning up on on a big competitive match. I think the Champions League game there's a little bit less pressure because we've put ourselves in a great position. I'll be looking to sort of make changes in that game, give players like Harvey Elliott some game time, maybe Endo if needed, Kwanzaa I think will look to start that game. And then I think in the league it's about prioritising those games and I think
00:16:05
Adarsh
Those are the games that we can't really afford to slip up. And now I know we've got that game in hand, which which is still a bonus for us, but we've got to capitalize on those games that we do have to play. I think Fulham at home, we've got we've got the advantage being at home.
00:16:17
Adarsh
I think our home games, Fulham and Leicester, I'm looking at those like those you got to go win. After watching Tottenham today, I think we can definitely put up a...
00:16:25
Global Sports Podcast Network
We could definitely score.
00:16:25
Adarsh
We can definitely score. I mean, it'll definitely be, and I've just heard that Romero and van der Venner will be out for that game as well.
00:16:31
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, it looks like they're out.
00:16:33
Adarsh
I think that's a great opportunity, a good time to play Spurs. I think that would be, and then West Ham away. I mean, that's the game. If I had to pick one, that could be a potential banana skin purely because we don't know if West Ham might be changing their manager and there might be a manager bounce.
00:16:48
Global Sports Podcast Network
I was just about to say it could be a new manager there.
00:16:49
Adarsh
and Yeah, that could be the game umm and towards the end of the year with last season's game as well. ah ah I know we can't really go off last season, but they they they do do they do give a game to some of the bigger teams.
00:16:56
Global Sports Podcast Network
know you're right
00:17:00
Adarsh
So I think that would be those would be the games, the away games. I think we've got a strong home record. So I think we would go. I think I'm confident with the home games, just those away games. And I think it's managing the away games because we've got a lot of traveling in this month and that's obviously going to take a toll.
00:17:16
Adarsh
I think with the Champions League is about giving some players arrest and and in the in the cup just a rotated team but play some of the strong attacking players and we we should we should get through against Southampton I don't want to promise or jinx anything but those are the games that I'm looking at like we should be fine it's just those away games in the Premier League I think
00:17:21
Global Sports Podcast Network
No, you're right.
00:17:33
Global Sports Podcast Network
I was going to mention the Southampton game because it's a tricky one in the sense that, you know, do you kind of sacrifice the League Cup at this stage?

Liverpool's League Cup Strategy - Squad Rotation Balance

00:17:43
Global Sports Podcast Network
Because Ani's slot is his first season and yes, we're in a great position in the Premier League, but we all know how things can change really quickly, whether it's in the Premier League or the Champions League, just a couple of injuries.
00:17:57
Global Sports Podcast Network
If an injury happened to van Dyck, for example, or to Salah, it could really derail things. And I'm just thinking, does Schlot really kind of dismiss the league cup?
00:18:08
Adarsh
Mmm.
00:18:09
Global Sports Podcast Network
Or does he think I just keep playing my but strongest team every week and just see how far it gets us?
00:18:17
Adarsh
I mean, that's kind of what he has been doing in a way. like he apart from i think the Apart from the other League Cup games, I think he has been doing that. I think with the League Cup, he's got a good sort of mix of players that he brings in, like Tyler Mortem will probably also come in for those games. I think Endo will probably start, he'll probably play two of the four or five fit attacking players and maybe Subozlai on the wing or something like that.
00:18:41
Adarsh
I think for me, and I don't know if you agree with this, it's about keeping the spine of the team fit. And I think in those games, you rest at Van Dyke, you rest Trent, you rest McAllister, and you rest Salah. Those are the four players I'm like, if there's a big injury to them, um I'll be worried. Obviously, Alisson as well, but he should be coming back to fitness as well. So I think for games like Southampton in the Cup, you rest the spine of the team, but you you kind of chop and change it. And maybe it's kind of like 45 minutes for Harvey Elliott and then 45 minutes for Curtis Jones or something like that.
00:19:12
Adarsh
You kind of mix and match and kind of make sure everyone is happy and has got minutes in their legs because you don't want to play a completely second string team and then you've got, I think it's Tottenham we play after that, isn't it?
00:19:23
Adarsh
And then you've got the whole team's rested and maybe they're not in the rhythm of the game and you know how Tottenham can be.
00:19:27
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:19:27
Adarsh
They can go tune them up and yeah, they might give you a chance, but they could also wipe the floor with you as well. So you don't know what team's going to turn up.
00:19:34
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah. And I think, I think we've already seen that I think slots idea of rotation is, is to kind of do it gradually, kind of almost like, segment by segment. So you'll take a couple of, you know, defenders out, uh, and then the rest of the team stays the same. And then the next game you'll see a couple of changes in the midfield. The next game you'll see a couple of changes up front. So he he kind of manages that, that starting 11.
00:20:01
Global Sports Podcast Network
in a more kind of gradual way, as opposed to, let's say, wholesale changes, like you said, kind of four or five or six changes. And then maybe that kind of affects the ah ah rhythm of the team. I'm just a darsh I'm just looking at some of the fixtures for the teams that are chasing Liverpool. And I'm just going to slightly revise what I said about Chelsea. They are in the title race.
00:20:24
Adarsh
Hmm.
00:20:25
Global Sports Podcast Network
They are in the title race because I'm just looking at their fixtures now. And this is their running for December. So on on the of Thursday the 12th of December, they're they're away in the UEFA Conference League.
00:20:39
Global Sports Podcast Network
So we can always dismiss that because they've got such a huge squad.
00:20:42
Adarsh
Yeah.
00:20:42
Global Sports Podcast Network
They've almost got a separate team for that. And then on Sunday the 15th of December, they are home to Brentford.
00:20:45
Adarsh
Okay.
00:20:50
Global Sports Podcast Network
Thursday, the 19th, again, it's so you a UEFA conference, uh, league game at home against Shamrock Rovers. That'll be a completely different team.
00:20:58
Adarsh
I love your hammering.
00:20:58
Global Sports Podcast Network
Okay. And then on Sunday, the 22nd of December, they are away to Everton.
00:21:04
Adarsh
Oh,
00:21:05
Global Sports Podcast Network
Thursday, the 26th of December, they are home to Fulham. And Monday, the 30th of December, they are away to Ipswich.
00:21:13
Adarsh
oh okay.
00:21:14
Global Sports Podcast Network
I can see them winning all of those games. The only one I would say could be potentially tricky is Thursday, 26th of December, Boxing Day, and it's home to Fulham, you know, West London Derby, and Fulham are in good form. That's the only one I could see where, you know, maybe there could be a draw there. But honestly, I can see them winning all of those games.
00:21:37
Adarsh
ah ah i I would agree with you. I think they are good fixtures for Chelsea. I think they've, and you, like you said, you've got, they've got the squad to, to manage those games and sort of, and also I don't think they're doing much traveling like Everton and called probably their only away games, barring obviously the, the Europa conference league.
00:21:47
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, exactly. Yeah.
00:21:53
Adarsh
I would actually say Brentford is a tough game for them purely because I don't think they've beaten Brentford at home in the league since Brentford have been promoted to primary league.
00:22:00
Global Sports Podcast Network
Right.
00:22:01
Adarsh
So maybe that's kind of like a banana skin fixture for them. Brentford as well. I know they're going really home. really strong at home, but Wissen and Buema have been in great form. So um I might, I might give Brentford and Fulham those, those potential banana skins.
00:22:13
Global Sports Podcast Network
But yeah, I think if if if they do go through that month and you go into January and you're there or thereabouts, then you've got to be in the title race.
00:22:14
Adarsh
i Yeah.
00:22:17
Adarsh
Yeah, if they do get rid of.
00:22:22
Adarsh
Yeah, I think so. And yeah, they're they're not giving us any reason why they can't defeat those teams and go on a run. I think they've since they lost to us, they've won every game or pretty much unbeaten since. So yeah, they're definitely a threat.
00:22:36
Global Sports Podcast Network
Should we look at Arsenal's fixtures then for December?
00:22:39
Adarsh
Yeah.
00:22:40
Global Sports Podcast Network
Wednesday, December the 11th. They are home to Monaco in the Champions League. And then Saturday, December the 14th, home to Everton.
00:22:51
Global Sports Podcast Network
I can't see anything other than an Arsenal win there.
00:22:52
Adarsh
yeah
00:22:55
Global Sports Podcast Network
And then Wednesday, December the 18th, they're home to Crystal Palace in the League Cup, Carabao Cup. And then the weekend after, they are away to Palace in the Premier League.
00:23:09
Global Sports Podcast Network
And then they round off December Arsenal Ipswich.
00:23:13
Adarsh
Yeah.
00:23:14
Global Sports Podcast Network
Ipswich at home.
00:23:14
Adarsh
Oh, they're home. Okay. Yeah.
00:23:16
Global Sports Podcast Network
Arsenal at home against Ipswich.
00:23:19
Adarsh
Hmm. Yeah.
00:23:19
Global Sports Podcast Network
So i will I would say that palace away. is really the only one where I can see them potentially dropping points. i think they should be I think they should absolutely hammer Everton at home.
00:23:34
Global Sports Podcast Network
And I think they'll batter Ipswich at home.
00:23:38
Adarsh
Yeah, no.
00:23:38
Global Sports Podcast Network
And it's really, I think, palace away. Selhurst Park is never an easy place to go. It's a 5.30 kickoff on a Saturday, so it's going to be under the lights. So I could see that game being yeah potentially tricky for Arsenal.
00:23:53
Adarsh
Yeah, no.
00:23:54
Global Sports Podcast Network
But you would have to say that they would have to win all of those games to really come out in good shape for January.
00:24:00
Adarsh
Yeah, and that's actually a really good point because I think whilst we look at these pictures for both Chelsea and Arsenal and say like, okay, they could win all these games. they The pressure is on them to win all those games. Otherwise, Liverpool, we're pulling away. like We obviously still have that pressure to continue winning.
00:24:15
Adarsh
but it's only pressure if the teams behind us and connect with us, if that makes sense. So I think, like yeah, on paper, those and then that's the thing about the Premier League, on paper, these games look like an easy one an easy win for Arsenal, an easy win for Chelsea.
00:24:31
Adarsh
But yeah, you can never you can never sort of judge those games too quickly. I do agree with you, though. I think the Palace game is the one I'm looking at, particularly if they play, I think, so they play them in the league midweek and then yeah after, in the I mean,
00:24:41
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah. Similar to how we had with, think it was Brighton, wasn't it?
00:24:45
Adarsh
brighton Okay.
00:24:45
Global Sports Podcast Network
Last round.
00:24:46
Adarsh
Okay. So that should be interesting. And maybe depending on the result of the, the Karabakh Cup game, maybe Palace might be up for it and might seek revenge depending if things go their way or don't go their way. So yeah.
00:24:57
Global Sports Podcast Network
Let's look at Manchester City's fixtures. They've got a very interesting December. So Wednesday, 11th of December, they are away to Juventus in the Champions League and their Champions League is not done yet.
00:25:10
Adarsh
No.
00:25:10
Global Sports Podcast Network
by any means, you know, they've got to start picking up points straight after that on Sunday, 4.30 kick off Manchester Derby at home.
00:25:20
Adarsh
Oh, okay.
00:25:22
Global Sports Podcast Network
Now I know, I know United have been very up and down, but you'd have to say they're going to be up for this. But, but then you've got that absolute disaster in goal for Manchester United.
00:25:35
Global Sports Podcast Network
Oh no, no. Did you see, did you see his performance the other day?
00:25:38
Adarsh
Yeah, yeah.
00:25:39
Global Sports Podcast Network
What was he doing?
00:25:40
Adarsh
I mean, he literally handed the forest a win that day, but yeah, it's crazy.
00:25:44
Global Sports Podcast Network
absolute absolute shambles in goal but um you know it's a derby game anything could happen and then on saturday the 21st of december they travel to villa and then thursday the 26th of december they are home to everton can't really see anything about a city city wind there and
00:25:55
Adarsh
Oh God, okay.
00:26:05
Adarsh
Are Everton playing Chelsea, Arsenal and City in December?
00:26:09
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, Sean Diesch is out.
00:26:09
Adarsh
Oh my God.
00:26:11
Global Sports Podcast Network
Basically, he's going to be sacked by January the 1st.
00:26:13
Adarsh
Go on, that is crazy for them.
00:26:16
Global Sports Podcast Network
And and they could have been happy they could have started off with us.
00:26:19
Adarsh
Oh my, yeah, that's so true. They kind of got away with that then.
00:26:21
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, I think there's some kind of, I don't know, it's some kind of weather corruption going on to to have that game postponed.
00:26:22
Adarsh
Wow.
00:26:29
Global Sports Podcast Network
If we start seeing the the city game postponed, and then the os game and there's definitely something going on.
00:26:32
Adarsh
Yeah. Oh, yeah
00:26:35
Global Sports Podcast Network
And then they round off December, Sunday, 29th of December, with a trip to Leicester.
00:26:41
Adarsh
oh and that's a new, a new manager there as well.
00:26:44
Global Sports Podcast Network
The manager of Anista Roy, they've started scoring a few goals, though.
00:26:47
Adarsh
Hmm. Yeah, I think if this is city of last season, we'll see them before you're like, then there's been no problem.
00:26:49
Global Sports Podcast Network
keep
00:26:52
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yes, exactly.
00:26:53
Adarsh
But I think it's the current city that we're like, okay, villas have been on skin. Okay, united with a new manager with a Manchester Derby. That's, ah that's, that's going to be a tough game. Lester away with a new manager with, with players like Vardy who are bagging form at the moment.
00:27:06
Adarsh
Like that is now, I look at it. I look at those games from a city point of view and you're probably like, Oh, these, this is going to be difficult. so Yeah. I mean, if they can get through December, still within, I'll say nine points, then I'll think they're still in the race.
00:27:21
Adarsh
But if there's any more than that, I think it's done. That's why.
00:27:26
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, because I think we've also got to remember that the judge you know January transfer window is just around the corner. And you can almost be certain that they're going to like can gonna do so do something, whether it's move players on or bring players in.
00:27:35
Adarsh
Invert.
00:27:41
Global Sports Podcast Network
They've got to do something. And I think Man City will. So that'll be interesting to see what happens there. But let's close off this episode with some contract updates.

Liverpool's Contract Situations - Retaining Key Players

00:27:53
Global Sports Podcast Network
I don't know if you saw the interview with Andy Robertson and Trent Alexander Arnold was involved as well. It was quite interesting because the way that Trent was talking about Arnie Slott, he said that his tactical detail was quote, mind blowing.
00:28:15
Global Sports Podcast Network
you know, just so it's just on a completely different level. And, you know, I'm just wondering if Trent's moved to Real Madrid. I mean, we've all kind of thought that it's done and dusted. And I'm just thinking if, if Mohammed Salah, if Van Dyke do sign, and we're still top of the table in the Premier League, we're still, you know, top of the table in the champion or we're in the hunt for the Champions League.
00:28:40
Global Sports Podcast Network
Do you think there's still a good chance that we can persuade him that this is the place to stay, to you know to fulfill all your kind of footballing dreams?
00:28:50
Adarsh
i think so it's it's such I think with Trent it's such a unique situation because with Salah and Van Dyke there at the end of their careers, you've got to kind of do more convincing with them because they're going to want to maximise as many years as possible, win as many trophies as possible.
00:28:53
Global Sports Podcast Network
Or is that more kind of hope than conviction?
00:29:10
Adarsh
With a player like Trent who's also a local lad, I don't think you need to persuade him. think it's It sounds ridiculous, but as a local player, you shouldn't be needed to be persuaded to stay at a club. I think he needs to he needs to own that decision. I think if he wants to go to 100, he needs to own that.
00:29:27
Global Sports Podcast Network
It's really interesting you say that Adash because I actually like fundamentally disagree.
00:29:29
Adarsh
and
00:29:32
Global Sports Podcast Network
I think it's, like yeah, I think it's completely the opposite.
00:29:32
Adarsh
Really?
00:29:35
Global Sports Podcast Network
So I think that it's easier to sell it to Mo and to van Dyck because they are at that stage in their career where a change now, it's not, to it doesn't make sense.
00:29:48
Adarsh
It doesn't really make sense.
00:29:51
Global Sports Podcast Network
It's just that. You know, they' they've been at the club for so long and they are, like you said, they're approaching the end of their career. They're going to have to go to a Real Madrid, you know, or someone that's just going to guarantee trophies like a Bayern Munich. It's going to guarantee a trophy as long as obviously Harry Kane leaves so that you can't guarantee a trophy. But you know, where where else do you go? So I think with Salah and Van Dyke, I think it's almost easier to say,
00:30:21
Global Sports Podcast Network
OK, look, you you guys, you're going to stay, but it's only it's really the length of contract that's in in up for negotiation. I don't think its this is about money for Salah or for Van Dyke.
00:30:33
Global Sports Podcast Network
It's about the length of their contract. where Whereas with Trent, I think it is a harder sell on the surface. It should be easier because he's a local lad.
00:30:41
Adarsh
is Yeah.
00:30:43
Global Sports Podcast Network
You know, he's you know, he's he's been at Liverpool all his career, but I think it's a harder sell because
00:30:50
Global Sports Podcast Network
he is in the prime of his career. And this is the moment where he can go and do something that Real Madrid, which he won't be able to do when he's 29 or 30 years old, because he has, let's face it, he's kind of completed football at Liverpool, because he's won everything that he can possibly win.
00:31:05
Adarsh
Yeah.
00:31:08
Global Sports Podcast Network
So I think there's more chance that there's more to persuade Trent for. But the the the the news is that's doing the rounds is that the Daily Mirror have quoted this and other outlets is that Muhammad Salah in Liverpool have come to an agreement that he's going to put pen to paper on a two-year extension to his current deal that expires in the summer.
00:31:32
Global Sports Podcast Network
So, Moscamp wanted three years. Liverpool were offering one and they've kind of compromised on two years.
00:31:39
Adarsh
Yeah.
00:31:41
Global Sports Podcast Network
I mean, if that's the case, I will be over the moon because two years is from the summer.
00:31:48
Adarsh
Yeah, I think.
00:31:49
Global Sports Podcast Network
And that takes him to 35.
00:31:52
Adarsh
In my head, I think two years was the one I would i would go for. I think three years is... yeah I think you offer free year ah ah an extra year if by this time, in two years' time, you're still producing the same levels.
00:32:04
Adarsh
Then you maybe like would want to give an extra year. But I think yeah two years would be...
00:32:09
Global Sports Podcast Network
I'd ask if he's still producing in three years, then I just say, look, here's a 25 year contract.
00:32:12
Adarsh
Last time, quite correct.
00:32:14
Global Sports Podcast Network
And let's just do what you want, you know, because if he's still if he's producing these numbers in three years time.
00:32:15
Adarsh
Yeah.
00:32:19
Adarsh
I mean, yeah, i can see I can see him doing it. I mean, he's he's been unbelievable this season. I think the stat is that he's involved in 75% of our goals. He's ridiculous. I think i think i mean, what I would be worried about is if Liverpool were offering a one-year contract.
00:32:35
Adarsh
I don't think that's for a player. I think it's kind of like a spit in the face. i wouldn't If I'm Salah, I'm like, I don't want one year. That's not what I'm about. i one ah ah I would want something substantial.
00:32:44
Global Sports Podcast Network
Well, that's just FSG, that's, that that's, that's FSG, they you know, they they are hard nosed, American, you know, venture capitalists that they're they're hardened in American sports, where, you know, in, in the, in baseball, in Major League Baseball, in the NFL,
00:32:46
Adarsh
Yeah.
00:33:03
Global Sports Podcast Network
they're brutal when it comes to players in their 30s.
00:33:05
Adarsh
Hmm.
00:33:07
Global Sports Podcast Network
You know, it's it's it's just like, you know, that that's it, you know, that that's your age, we're not going to pay you for what you potentially might do. It's just that that's how it is. So I think if if if it turns out that it's a two year contract, I think that will be
00:33:20
Adarsh
I think that's a good outcome.
00:33:21
Global Sports Podcast Network
I think it's a good good deal for all parties. And look, you know what? If he does fall off a cliff in a year's time, which I can't see happening, then he's still got another year left on his contract and you'll get money from a Saudi Arabian club. I think everyone wins.
00:33:35
Adarsh
Yeah, I think it's I think it's a sensible decision I think you go for two years if like we said if he's still producing offer an extension or lifetime contracts But if he's if he's not you can you can you can part ways in a way That's this amicable and like for a play of sellers Legacy, you've got to do something massive for him.
00:33:52
Adarsh
So yeah, I think it's the is the best way But let's hope those rumors are true and he signed his science contract soon
