00:00:25
Global Sports Podcast Network
So in part one of today's episode, we're gonna, we're going to look at the form guide for both teams, where the game could be won and lost and key players to look out for. In part two, we'll do a predicted lineup and score prediction.

Guest Introduction: Louis Easton

00:00:38
Global Sports Podcast Network
And in part three, we'll round up the episode with some transfer speculation and any other LFC related news during the rounds. Joining me on the podcast to talk about all that. And I'm sure much, much more is Louis Easton. How's it going,

Challenges at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium

00:00:52
Global Sports Podcast Network
Louis?
00:00:52
Louie Easton
all good over here looking forwards to the weekend and it's also good to be in the final four of the Carabao Cup as well it's a good time to be a Liverpool fan yeah
00:01:01
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, it feels like five minutes ago, doesn't it? It sounds like five minutes ago that we were talking about the Carabao Cup against Southampton.
00:01:08
Louie Easton
really wasn't that long ago no
00:01:08
Global Sports Podcast Network
It's all becoming a blur now.
00:01:12
Global Sports Podcast Network
All right, let's let's get cracking. set So Spurs play host to league leaders Liverpool this Sunday.

Match Details and Timing

00:01:18
Global Sports Podcast Network
It's a 4.30pm kickoff time. That's UK time. That's 11.30am Eastern Standard Time. Nice early start for all our listeners stateside.

Spurs' Squad Analysis

00:01:31
Global Sports Podcast Network
Lewitt, we're approaching the end of the year and what has been a tough run of fixtures this month What are you expecting to see in this game? i It's so hard to predict what kind of Spurs team are going to show up.
00:01:44
Louie Easton
It is is always a difficult stadium to go to, the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. you know Absolutely huge, it's like a massive bowl, the atmosphere is just crazy in there. But as for the actual game, it could it's it's it's a huge test again for slots. One of the other top six games that you sort of look for on the calendar before the season starts.
00:02:10
Louie Easton
And we had a pretty awful trip there last season as well. game that sort of got out of our hands due to some interesting refereeing decisions caused a little bit of controversy to say the least.
00:02:25
Louie Easton
But you know Spurs have forgotten have got an injury and suspension crisis ah ah of their own at the moment. I'm not sure if Rodrigo Benson Cook can serve a suspension against Manchester United in the Carabao Cup or if he will serve it on Sunday. But regardless, it's going to be a tough match. you know They have so much quality, they have plenty of squad depth.
00:02:49
Louie Easton
and quite a young team as well. You know Brennan Johnson for example, he's young but he's really come into his own this season, 23 years old and he's been scoring for fun on the right wing. We've seen Gheuloshevsky really turn it around again this season into some world-class form in his new sort of midfield roles, sort of playing in that Harvey Elliott position in midfield but drifting out to the right wing, helping out Johnson when needed. The only player that I'm surprised to say hasn't been incredible this year is Xingmin Sun.
00:03:27
Louie Easton
You know, we talk about him constantly because he has got that ability to become world-class, but out of himself and Johnson and Solanki and Kuloshevsky, he seems to be the weakest link other than Timo Werner as well, who hasn't been terrific himself this season. But, you know, they really do pose a threat in their attack. Absolutely.

Liverpool's Defensive Concerns

00:03:54
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, well, let's talk about Liverpool's current form coming into this game. We've we've beat Southampton with a much changed side on Wednesday night to book our place in the League Cup semi-final. In terms of Premier League form, our last six games read 1-4 and drawn 2. We've scored 14, conceded 8.
00:04:16
Global Sports Podcast Network
We still have a obviously a very good defensive record, but i'm I'm just wondering if some of those injuries in our back line have started to show in the way of more goals conceded, you know, no Canata van Dyck kind of access in the center of that defense.
00:04:32
Louie Easton
Yeah, I think having Kanate is always a bit of a miss. We always complained about how clumsy he looked whenever he went into a tackle and you know vulnerability to give away a penalty. But I think experience and class are always needed, even in a lack of form. you know You see people complain about Robertson's inconsistent form ah recently, ah recently, getting sent off, giving away penalties, you know so on and so forth.
00:05:00
Louie Easton
but he's the sort of player you need in matches like this because he's been here. ah ah He's been at the club for years. He knows what it's like to go into these big fixtures. It doesn't faze him. For other players, maybe even Timokas, it might seem like, okay, I need to step up now. I need to deliver when it matters.

Key Player Contributions

00:05:20
Louie Easton
Robertson has done that in the past and Kenate has done that in the past. You know, Kenate's played in the World Cup final. So he's not fazed by the big occasion.
00:05:29
Louie Easton
uh and you know even though we haven't lost it's at the stage now where a draw is about as good as a loss you know we're only two points clear of chelsea granted we have a game in hand but you know chelsea really gonna have the motivation they're really gonna go for it at this time of the year arsenal still around there as well
00:05:41
Global Sports Podcast Network
Okay.
00:05:51
Louie Easton
So yeah, it's important that we do have as many players as possible, especially experienced players. However, I do still think that, you know, Joe Gomez is more than capable of doing a job for us because he's our longest serving player as well.
00:06:05
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, mean we've taken 14 points for our last six games. That second in the form table behind Chelsea, you've taken 16 points in that time. We've drawn our last two games, against Newcastle and Fulham. I know there are certain draws,
00:06:21
Global Sports Podcast Network
You know, there are one point gained as opposed to two points dropped, which I certainly think is the case for the full-in game where we, I thought we were outstanding for most of the game with just 10 men. But it does mean though that Chelsea have been able to close that gap to just two points at the top of the table, as you mentioned.

Importance of Winning Against Spurs

00:06:42
Global Sports Podcast Network
Do those draws in the last two fixtures mean that we've got to get three points on Sunday in terms of the title race and making sure that we still hold that initiative?
00:06:51
Louie Easton
I think we absolutely do, because if we draw and Chelsea win, then Chelsea are on the same amount of points as us. And every, every point matters, especially during this difficult, congested time of the year as well.
00:06:58
Global Sports Podcast Network
yeah
00:07:08
Louie Easton
And also you look to these big occasions and you look for big performances. And I think At this time of year, winning against a big team is so much bigger than bit winning against a small team because it gives us that motivation to think, okay, we can beat anyone.
00:07:27
Louie Easton
And although Spurs have been dreadful recently, I think, it's still Spurs. You know, they still have so much history in the Premier League, so much a quality in their squad. And, you know, you sort of expect us to slip up against these, form ah these so so to say, smaller sides because we put out potentially a weaker team.
00:07:52
Louie Easton
ah And you know it's a bigger match for the players to make a name for themselves from these smaller sides. So i I think that it's a crucial three points for us if we win on Sunday against Tottenham, absolutely.
00:08:11
Global Sports Podcast Network
I mean, this is where the timings of the fixtures I think can really build pressure on teams, you know, when it's so tight at the top, you know, Chelsea are playing at 2pm on Sunday, so they'll have the opportunity to go level on points, possibly maybe even go top before a ball is kicked against Spurs.

Chelsea's Title Challenge

00:08:30
Global Sports Podcast Network
How do you see this challenge from Chelsea developing? it I mean, is this a serious title challenge from them?
00:08:38
Louie Easton
I think it is serious, but I also don't think that they can keep this up for the entire season because when you get into the sort of latter stages of the season, that's when class and fitness are all tested.
00:08:51
Louie Easton
We've seen it with Arsenal when they sort of came up with their younger squad and they were in a title race of Manchester City and they just couldn't handle it. They couldn't go right until the very end.
00:09:02
Louie Easton
And then they ended up...
00:09:02
Global Sports Podcast Network
so almost two squad louis chelsea Chelsea have got almost two teams.
00:09:05
Louie Easton
Sorry?
00:09:08
Global Sports Podcast Network
They've got a team that plays the Cup games, Europa League conference games, and then they've got a completely separate 11. In terms of fatigue,
00:09:08
Louie Easton
They have, yeah.
00:09:21
Global Sports Podcast Network
are they not in a really good position to kind of combat that but I do agree that I think that where they could slip up I think I don't think they've got a keeper that that is a title winning goalkeeper but I think on the fitness side I think they're okay.
00:09:29
Louie Easton
Mm.
00:09:38
Louie Easton
I think people are quite harsh on Sanchez, he he has made some good performances recently, just in their last match. I can't remember off the top of my head who it was against, but...
00:09:47
Global Sports Podcast Network
You haven't heard me talk about Sanchez and Louis because I think he's useless.
00:09:50
Louie Easton
yeah No, clearly not. ah ah yeah i He has received a lot of criticism, but you know he is more than he's more than capable.
00:09:59
Louie Easton
i mean i I remember when everyone was slating carriers all season. of Barring the Champions League final, I think he was actually a decent keeper for us. Granted made a couple of errors, but in terms of the actual Chelsea squad, you make a very good point about the squad depth they have because it is just ridiculous. They have two European sides in one. But I just think when it comes to the mental side and
00:10:28
Louie Easton
sort of surviving all of the pressure of being in a title race at the very end of the season, it will take its toll on the players and I think they'll struggle.
00:10:40
Louie Easton
But fatigue, like you mentioned, might not be as much of a problem as people make

Spurs' Form and Potential Upset

00:10:44
Louie Easton
it out to be. I think this is the what the period we're in right now is the period of the year where fatigue is tested the most.
00:10:46
Global Sports Podcast Network
and
00:10:52
Global Sports Podcast Network
Although you never know if Mudrić has been handing out the drinks in the Chelsea squad, then ah maybe they may have less players than than we think in a couple of weeks time. but
00:11:01
Louie Easton
Yeah, he's apparently got the same trainer as ah ah Enzo Fernandez. That's why he's been performing so well recently
00:11:08
Global Sports Podcast Network
Allegedly, allegedly. Let's bring this back now to Spurs. Their form guide in the last six games reads they've taken seven points from six Premier League games. They've won two, they've drawn one and they've lost three, which just sounds very Spurs-y, but here's an interesting stat.
00:11:29
Global Sports Podcast Network
They have the same goal difference in those last six games as Liverpool, scored 14, conceded eight, but they've managed to rack up three defeats. I mean, does that just speak to their inconsistency and and just the fact that you just, you just don't know what Spurs are going to do.
00:11:38
Louie Easton
I don't get that.
00:11:46
Louie Easton
No, I mean, they won what, 5-0 in their last match, I think?
00:11:50
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:11:51
Global Sports Podcast Network
The city four nil.
00:11:53
Louie Easton
Yeah, that oh it's it's strange with Spurs. It really is because I think they are the most unpredictable side in the entire Premier League. and It's just bizarre seeing their season. They'll take it to the big teams and they'll slip up against the weaker sides. It was a prime example. like You use 4-0 against City and then they lost earlier this season to Ipswich.
00:12:17
Louie Easton
it's but they do have an injury crisis i do want to bring that up because bed davis is out micky vander then is out racharlison's out vicario's out you doggy still coming back from injury and they've had to play you know 17 18 year old archy gray at center back jed spence has had to move across to left back But other than that, their team still looks quite strong. Sar, Besuma and Kuleshevsky making up their midfield still. Sar has had a brilliant sort of last 12 months. So they are definitely a team that we shouldn't underestimate. And also we are a big side, which means that they will try more against us. And always with Liverpool, we seem to bring out the best in every team we play.
00:13:04
Louie Easton
and we don't dominate possession as much now on the slot as we did with Klopp.
00:13:10
Global Sports Podcast Network
I mean, it does show that Spurs, they are a threat in terms of their ability score goals. I mean, even in them in the recent game against Chelsea, fantastic game, by the way, they lose that 4-3, but they they go ahead, they go 2-0 up in the first half, two first half goals.
00:13:26
Global Sports Podcast Network
So I think Liverpool will have to nullify that goal threat and I think if we i think we'll have the mindset that if we can keep a clean sheet then I think we win the game because I'd back ourselves to score and you can't really back spurs to keep a clean sheet.
00:13:45
Louie Easton
Nice.

Liverpool's Defensive Strategy

00:13:46
Global Sports Podcast Network
But are there areas in that Liverpool team, you know, we've already already mentioned Kanate, who's out, and then a perceived drop in the form of Andy Robertson, the left back, do you think post to Cogloo, we're looking at that left side and think Pedro Poirot, Kuleszewski, you know, if we double up on on Robertson, can they target that side for Spurs?
00:14:08
Louie Easton
Yeah, and I understand Diaz does often drop back to help out in the defense, but if he does put, you know, Poirot and Brennan Johnson and Kuleshevsky on Robertson, then that can absolutely be a weakness in the Liverpool side. And that's what he does anyway. He loves to have a high line. He loves to have his full backs push up to help out the wingers with an overlap.
00:14:35
Louie Easton
And Kuleszewski drift out to the right to help up Johnson, because that's where Kuleszewski loves playing. He loves coming in off the right-hand side. he's also He's almost playing like a false winger.
00:14:48
Louie Easton
And Brennan Johnson, you just trust him to pop put one into the back of the net. i I never rated him before this season, and he's just scoring for fun.
00:14:57
Global Sports Podcast Network
yeah i Yeah.
00:14:58
Louie Easton
He's been a real goal threat. He's been a terrific signing.
00:15:01
Global Sports Podcast Network
He's been been a really good timing.
00:15:01
Louie Easton
and But the the only thing I'll say to that is Van Dyke likes to step across and help out. And I don't back any Spurs player. I don't back any player in the world to go past Virgil Van Dyke or beat him in the air, beat him for pace.
00:15:18
Louie Easton
He's that good.
00:15:20
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah. Well, we'll see what happens. It's time for a break. When we come back, we'll talk predicted lineups and a score prediction. Stay tuned.

Predicted Liverpool Lineup

00:16:02
Global Sports Podcast Network
Okay, welcome back. Let's get into some predicted lineups and a score prediction. Lew, it looks like it's business as usual in gold for Liverpool. Kelleher featured midweek in the Carabao Cup. So Alison surely is going to be between the sticks Liverpool on Sunday.
00:16:18
Louie Easton
I think so, yeah. Alison, I haven't heard any issues come out of the camp that he's unfit or anything. I think he'll probably be our choice and go, and rightfully so.
00:16:32
Louie Easton
I think he's still, if if not one of the best goalkeeper in the world.
00:16:32
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:16:37
Global Sports Podcast Network
Oh, he's, he's without for for me, he's without doubt. He's the best keeper in the world. okay. Let's move on to the back four then. I think again, with the injuries to Kanate, I think I'm going to go for a Gomez van Dyke, uh, center back pairing, unless you think Kwanzaa is good enough to come in.
00:16:56
Louie Easton
I don't think wants us good enough. I think he is a bit of a liability sometimes. And I never thought that last season, but you know, for I think
00:17:04
Global Sports Podcast Network
What do you think's happened to Kwanza? There's been rumours of kind of, you know, off-field problems that he's had, but it just seems that after that mistake that he made against Manchester United in the FA Cup last season, it's just absolutely, his form has just dropped off a cliff. I don't think that's the only reason.
00:17:24
Louie Easton
I'll tell you what it is. I think it's a confidence thing with Kwanzaa. He's scared to make a mistake now because he doesn't play as much. He got a lot of playtime under clock, but since Slots took him off in the first match of the season against Ipswich and said he was losing too many jewels, it sort of hindered his confidence and suddenly he's just playing uncomfortably.
00:17:48
Louie Easton
You know, he made a good cameo against Manchester City when he played it right back, which none of us were expecting, but I'm worried about Kwanzaa at the moment. I think he will struggle for more game time at Liverpool under slot.
00:18:01
Louie Easton
I think he's probably going to look elsewhere for game time, maybe next season. and ah I I don't know, but it's it's it's a worry. I do think Gomez will definitely start against Man City, sorry, against Spurs.
00:18:14
Global Sports Podcast Network
So don and dke what about the full back positions?
00:18:14
Louie Easton
However,
00:18:17
Louie Easton
I was just going to say however, Endo looked pretty good at Censored Back as well against ah Southampton. But yeah, it will be Gomez and Van Dyke's. At full backs, I still think Robertson.
00:18:29
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:18:30
Louie Easton
And I i think Trent will start.
00:18:32
Louie Easton
and i know No e questions asked there. Robertson, I just think, needs to play through this patch. You know, it's wrong to judge a player on a few performances when he's been probably Liverpool's best left-back since the 80s. He's won so many trophies with us, he's been in this position before, and he's more than capable. We just need to support him. The team and slot needs to support support him and he'll come around and he'll play through it.
00:19:06
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, I agree. And I think that he will play as well. I think that Simicast, I think it's a boost that he's back, back from injury. He played Wednesday night, but you could see that he was lacking mark match fitness and sharpness, Simicast.
00:19:19
Louie Easton
Yeah.
00:19:20
Global Sports Podcast Network
So I think that Robertson probably gets the nod um for that left back position. Midfield, you know, it was really positive that Graven Burke has finally been able to get a rest midweek by not painting playing that Carabao Cup game.
00:19:37
Global Sports Podcast Network
but So I expect him to come back.
00:19:40
Louie Easton
Yeah.
00:19:40
Global Sports Podcast Network
Graven Burke, I think McAllister will be in there as well.
00:19:46
Louie Easton
Yeah, McAllister didn't play the full 90 minutes, so maybe the thinking behind that was he needs to be rested for some day.
00:19:53
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, I think the big question mark though, uh, throughout this season, Gravenberg McAllister seem to be that kind of regular consistent double pivot in midfield. And then what do you think of that kind of third midfield spot? I'm going for Curtis Jones.
00:20:11
Louie Easton
I just think Curtis Jones is best played in that number six pivot role. I don't think he's as effective when he's got the ball in the final third. He lacks a finish, he lacks a final pass. I think he's very good his interplay in tight areas in the middle of the park.
00:20:32
Louie Easton
but playing it out to the left or the right or the other midfielder. I just don't think he has that sort of killer instinct in front of goal and that's where I think Harvey Elliott could be more suited to that role.
00:20:47
Global Sports Podcast Network
No support.
00:20:47
Louie Easton
Or, i i I was going to say, Harvey played a full 90 minutes, I think, against Southampton, didn't he?
00:20:51
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:20:55
Louie Easton
So it probably will be Soboslai, especially since he was not taken to the south coast,

Liverpool's Attacking Strategy

00:21:01
Global Sports Podcast Network
yeah
00:21:02
Louie Easton
given a rest.
00:21:03
Louie Easton
And I think Soboslai as well, sort of, does lack that finish this season. But he's more than capable. He just needs a bit of time or space, which he's not being given much of in these matches because they know how capable he is. But he does a lot of work off the ball and he sort of threads it through to Salah and he's quick. He can run at a defense. i So I think he will start and he's not phased by the big match either.
00:21:36
Global Sports Podcast Network
Mm hmm. Okay, so I'm grabbing Burke McAllister. I'm going to plump for Jones. You've gone for Sir Bosley.
00:21:42
Louie Easton
Yeah.
00:21:43
Global Sports Podcast Network
Front three. What are we looking at in terms of the front three?
00:21:47
Louie Easton
I think Diaz has to play. he's Well, Gakpo played earlier this week already, so that's one thing.
00:21:49
Global Sports Podcast Network
why Why, why not get both?
00:21:56
Louie Easton
Secondly, I just think Diaz and is a better sort of match for Porro and Dragushan because Cody Gakpo is a big guy, but he's...
00:22:12
Louie Easton
he he we saw against Southampton, he loves to do that shimmy and then pass it back to a midfielder. We need to break this defence and I think Diaz is a better dribbler and he's better at penetrating a defence than Gacopo. Gacopo's got a better shot and he's got a good understanding of where to be in the box more than Diaz. I think that might be a bit harsh on Diaz but I think someone who's fully rested and someone who is quick and Agile is probably a good fit for this game, especially when Diaz has scored in big matches as well earlier this season. You know, we give a lot of credit to Gackpo, but, you know, it was Diaz that scored in and the Man United match, that incredible sort of, I don't even know what you would call it, but it's a volley and a back pass. It was a weird goal, but I think Diaz deserves to play as well.
00:23:05
Global Sports Podcast Network
I think it's, I agree. I think that Diaz should play it, but I think that he should play also because if Robertson does play, I think Diaz is the ideal kind of partner on that left-hand side to give him because Diaz has got a hell of a lot of energy.
00:23:18
Louie Easton
That's a good point as well.
00:23:22
Global Sports Podcast Network
He will run up and down that flank all day long giving Robertson cover. So I think that's another kind of tick in the box for Diaz for me. What about the other two spots?
00:23:34
Global Sports Podcast Network
Salah, obviously, he's got to play.
00:23:35
Louie Easton
Yeah, that names itself. So your best player in the world right now, Mo Salah, I will say that he's the best player in the world.
00:23:39
Global Sports Podcast Network
And what about down the middle?
00:23:43
Louie Easton
So I think.
00:23:44
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, i wouldn't I wouldn't disagree with you there. And what about down the middle?
00:23:47
Louie Easton
Good.
00:23:50
Louie Easton
it's well It's got to be jotter because we saw Nunez play the entire 90 minutes against Southampton, so that's already an indication.
00:23:53
Global Sports Podcast Network
yeah
00:23:57
Louie Easton
I suppose the other thing you could say is maybe Diaz through the middle and then Gackapo on the left, but I still
00:24:04
Global Sports Podcast Network
and
00:24:05
Louie Easton
I just think Jota, you know, we've given him a little bit of playing time now. He played in the final stages against Fulham, he played in the in the second half against Southampton.
00:24:17
Louie Easton
I think he's fit, I think he's ready to go and also I just think he's probably the best finisher that we have.
00:24:18
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:24:26
Louie Easton
because the book the ball comes to him, however, you know, a header on the chest, it doesn't matter.
00:24:26
Global Sports Podcast Network
I agree.
00:24:35
Louie Easton
It's like watching Alan Shearer, you know, he just makes something out of nothing and the ball more often than not ends up in the back of the net.
00:24:44

Jota the slaughter, right? That's that's what that's why he's he's called that.
00:24:46
Louie Easton
Yeah, exactly.
00:24:48
Global Sports Podcast Network
And I think we're getting now to that stage of the season where you just can't afford to give up opportunities.
00:24:58
Global Sports Podcast Network
You've got to take them. You can't keep missing opportunities that come your way that in the way that Nunez has this season. I know that he scored on on Wednesday and that was good.
00:25:09
Global Sports Podcast Network
and It was good for his confidence. but I think in the Premier League you you need someone reliable and I think having Salah and Jota up front just gives the opposition just such a nightmare because they know nine times out of ten if an opportunity drops to one of those two they will put it away whereas in maybe in previous weeks the fear has been Salah but not maybe so much Nunes in terms of his ability to put the ball away So yeah, I think we're both in agreement there, Salah, Jota and Diaz.

Score Predictions

00:25:44
Global Sports Podcast Network
Okay, I'm going to put you on the spot now for a score prediction.
00:25:47
Louie Easton
knew it was coming.
00:25:48
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:25:48
Louie Easton
And I hate these because I hate predicting matches. I just want to enjoy them without...
00:25:53
Global Sports Podcast Network
And i I promise to record your prediction and and put it out on Monday's
00:25:59
Louie Easton
Well, it's going out to everyone in the world on here, so you might as well. Yeah, I'm going to say the first goal will be very important in this match because, you know, we can concede first and then fight back and get two. We've seen it plenty of times, but I just have a feeling that we might score first today. You know, everyone's fit, barring the defence.
00:26:26
Louie Easton
I fancy ah fancy it to be a good match as well. I think it will be tight. I don't think anyone will win by more than one goal. I think it will probably be 2-1 to Liverpool, if not 2-2.
00:26:39
Global Sports Podcast Network
OK.
00:26:42
Global Sports Podcast Network
Oh.
00:26:42
Louie Easton
But i i think I think Liverpool will win 2-1.
00:26:45
Global Sports Podcast Network
Not too. I'm going to go for a 3-0. There you go. Mr. Optimistic.
00:26:49
Louie Easton
Two very different analyses of the game.
00:26:52
Global Sports Podcast Network
i think we score I think we score early. Control the tro the game.
00:26:55
Louie Easton
You think? Yeah, I think there will be a first half goal.
00:26:57
Global Sports Podcast Network
and Yeah.
00:26:59
Louie Easton
Absolutely.
00:26:59
Global Sports Podcast Network
And I think if we can get ah goal in the first half, I think we can just pick them off in the second half because Spurs will will just keep coming.
00:27:08
Louie Easton
And Spurs are at home as well.
00:27:10
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, they are, they are, but I'm confident that we can we can score against them. and and will so I am, yeah, I enjoy doing that.
00:27:16
Louie Easton
I think you're writing off Spurs quite easily here.
00:27:21
Global Sports Podcast Network
like we're We're going to go to another quick break, and then we'll round off the episode with a bit of transpose transfer speculation.

Transfer Speculation: Mark Gay

00:28:05
Global Sports Podcast Network
Right, Mark Gay, the Crystal Palace centre-back is, according to some reports, the target for Liverpool should contract negotiations with skipper Virgil van Dijk break down. It's reported that sporting director Richard Hughes sees the England international as an ideal replacement for Van Dyke and is expected to be on the market for around £60 to £70 million. Louis, what's your thoughts on Mark Gay? I'm going to say off the bat.
00:28:37
Global Sports Podcast Network
i don't i don't I don't know why I don't see him as a Liverpool centre back. Certainly not in the calibre of a Virgil van Dijk in terms of a replacement.
00:28:44
Louie Easton
Me neither.
00:28:49
Global Sports Podcast Network
If you're buying him in addition to van Dijk and in addition to Conate and in addition to Joe Gomez, I think that makes a solid line-up of four centre backs.
00:29:04
Louie Easton
Yeah, I agree.
00:29:04
Global Sports Podcast Network
But to repeat van Dijk, don't know what do you think
00:29:07
Louie Easton
It doesn't feel like a Liverpool signing, does it? it's you know i was i I'm still hoping for Inassio of Sporting. I think he could be more effective in that defensive line because he's quick. Gay isn't that quick, but he's just very clever. I think he was England's best player at the Euros as well.
00:29:27
Louie Easton
You know, he was consistent. He was reliable. He made no mistakes. He's a leader. He's all of these things. So if we do get him, absolutely fantastic. But I still think we need to keep Van Dyke because, you know, in defense, you don't have to be as quick.
00:29:43
Louie Easton
It's just Van Dyke is so big, so strong, and he's got so much aura at the back. He's commanding. He's physical. He's all of these things. So I just think if we were to get rid of him, we can't just replace him with Mark Gay. We'd have to go and find the next big thing. Is Mark Gay the next big thing? I don't think so. I think he's a very decent player. But I don't think he's the answer to our problems.
00:30:13
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, no, I agree.
