00:01:09
Michael
Yeah, yeah, i'm really I'm really good. Looking forward to this game. I think it could be a good runout for some of the underutilized players and the academy guys. And I always like seeing the academy boys get a runout, so I'm looking forward to it.
00:01:21
Global Sports Podcast Network
Back-to-back appearances for both of you.
00:01:24
Michael
yeah
00:01:25
Adarsh
Consistency.
00:01:25
Global Sports Podcast Network
tatoo is yeah You might have to watch those hamstrings.
00:01:25
Michael
dream team
00:01:30
Global Sports Podcast Network
ah Okay, let's get ah things started.

Importance of the League Cup for Liverpool?

00:01:32
Global Sports Podcast Network
Liverpool playing for a place in the semi-finals of the League Cup. They are the defending ah champions or the holders, I should say. um Michael, whitt we're top of the Premier League, top of the Champions League.
00:01:44
Global Sports Podcast Network
Is is this still an important game for for Liverpool and for Ani Slott?
00:01:46
Michael
Yeah? I mean, if Slott can win a trophy in his first season, and that is an incredible precedent to set down, even if it is just the League Cup, if we do end up falling off, which is like understandable in a first season. and But I think maybe because we are doing so well in both the Champions League and the Premier League, and there are a few weaknesses in the squad in terms of the depth, especially in defence at the moment with all the injuries we've had,
00:02:19
Michael
ah Maybe this game isn't exactly the most pressing. I think we've all the the acronym game and the FA Cup is also like you can you can rotate the squad as as much as you want.
00:02:30
Michael
And I think this is a prime opportunity to give those key players a rest so that we're not having more and more injuries piling up. But I think it is.
00:02:38
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:02:38
Michael
I think it is still important.
00:02:40
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, dosh wass it's a fine balancing act, isn't it? Because you don't want to be kind of accused of disrespecting the Cup cop and competitions, ah but also, you know, not being complacent.

Balancing Competitions and Squad Depth

00:02:52
Global Sports Podcast Network
ah Because, as Michael said, it is an opportunity to to win a ah trophy, to get silverware early in the season and for for slot to start off with a trophy would be a ah really, really good achievement. But at the same time, you don't want to kind of jeopardise the Premier League campaign and the Champions League, which is really, you know, we're we're midway through it now.
00:03:16
Adarsh
Yeah, I know. I mean, to be fair, I think we are in a great position in the Champions League. um And obviously we don't play in that competition until January. And then with the league fixtures, I mean, we've had sort of that week off, if you like to say, because of the postponement against Everton. So there there might be some part of on a slots thinking, which might be, and also we're not, and we are in decent form, but we've drawn our last two games. So maybe putting a bit of a statement, sort of starting 11 or getting some of those first team is back up to scratch and kind of getting that momentum might be in his thinking as well.
00:03:47
Adarsh
um But I think he will take it seriously. I think it'll be a balance between experience and youth, which I think is what he went for against Brighton in the last round. So hopefully he can sort of do something similar um and give some of those academy academy players a run out as well.
00:04:00
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, you you mentioned those two draws. In terms of this week's run of fixtures, if we include the weekend, sandwiched between two Premier League fixtures, we ah we've drew at home against Fulham and that obviously followed on ah from the previous draw um against Newcastle in the league.
00:04:22
Global Sports Podcast Network
You know, does this game against Southampton, you know does it have any kind of impact on team confidence, on team

Impact of the Match on Liverpool's Morale?

00:04:30
Global Sports Podcast Network
morale? Let's say if we were to go out, Michael, let's say, you know, we get dumped out by new ah by Southampton.
00:04:36
Global Sports Podcast Network
Does that increase the pressure on Sunday's game against Spurs? Or is this very much a separate game, separate competition? and what What do you think Slott's mindset is going to be on this in terms of you know what what the potential potential implications are of a bad result?
00:04:54
Michael
I think it depends what who like what team slot puts out, obviously. like if If it is a full strength team, we're obviously going to need to focus on the win. And I think not getting that win kind of cements this i mean poor run of form in in quotation marks. like We're still top of the league and we're still doing well. and we haven't really We haven't lost recently, so ah which is good. um But I think if it is a rotated team and we are and we all kind of just approaching this game with a little bit more. um but like we don't We don't really care about it as much. I think then then a loss is not as bad because those key players like Salah, those key players like Van Dyke and and Trent and all those those those big players that we always talk about, if they if they're not involved, they're they're not going to be affected by the loss because they didn't lose. like they
00:05:48
Michael
they they They're going to just pick themselves up and come and fight for the next game against Tottenham, which is a big game and a very gettable game. um And I think they all know that. so i think i think And I think Slott's approach this season seems to be more game by game rather than um looking forward over a long stretch. So I think it's literally just going to be this game and then the next game rather than kind of looking past it to Tottenham.

Southampton's Managerial Changes

00:06:14
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, well, let's let's talk about Southampton, because that's that's who out who our opponents are. They've just sacked their manager, Russell Martin, Adash, after they got absolutely battered by Spurs. 5-0 at the weekend. And for all intents and purposes, it looked like Spurs just stopped playing in the second half. It could have been a lot worse. um Any surprise that Martin was given his marching orders by Southampton ownership?
00:06:42
Adarsh
Um, I don't, yeah, I don't think there was any surprise. I think it was coming. I think it's more the manner in which they lost and they were just capitulated in that first half. I think it was, it was very embarrassing. I think some of their goals to conceded. there's I think the thing is Russell Martin had that great style of play and I think it worked in the championship, but I think it's when you come to the premier league and if you fail to adapt or fail to play out from the back in the right moments, that's when you.
00:07:07
Adarsh
basically get punished and that's what's happened to him I think he does have a good style of play but I don't think he as a manager personally is ready for the Premier League and that's obviously resulted in him getting the sack and where Southampton are at the moment so I think he will get another job but um probably in the Championship I can see him going to another Championship club and getting them promoted um But I do think for Southampton, they obviously I would say have the poorest squad in the Premier League, so it was always going to be a tough job. But I think they weren't helped by some of you know their own style of play. um As much as sometimes it worked, I mean when we played them in the Premier League, I thought they were outstanding and in patches of the game.
00:07:42
Adarsh
um It's just that consistency. And then if you get blown away 5-0 half time, I don't think you left as much choice. So I think it was the right decision for Southampton. But let's just see who they get. I don't ah i don't think they'll have anyone for tomorrow for tonight's game.
00:07:56
Adarsh
So they're probably...
00:07:56
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, i think it's goingnna be the I think it might be the under 21s manager, Simon Russ, that will take over.
00:08:01
Adarsh
Yeah.
00:08:03
Global Sports Podcast Network
But you you mentioned that he might not have been ready for the Premier League. I think the problem is that he He enforced the style of play on players that weren't ready to play that style in the Premier League.
00:08:14
Adarsh
Hmm.
00:08:17
Global Sports Podcast Network
And I'm just wondering, Michael, you know, you've got this crop of coaches, young managers seem completely wedded to a style of play, even if their players are completely incapable of carrying out those instructions at Premier League level.
00:08:35
Global Sports Podcast Network
Why

Young Managers' Playing Styles

00:08:36
Global Sports Podcast Network
is that? Why don't they? Is it just a case of I'm going to put myself in the shop window with his style of play? Because everyone's looking at Vincent company, absolute disaster in the Premier League with Burnley. And he's he's at Bayern Munich now. So maybe Russell Martins thinking I could be managing a PSG now if I if I carry on like this.
00:08:57
Michael
I think the thing with with young managers, is's if you look at Eddie Howe, he was kind of a it was a your youngish manager who kind of was at a one club, played a certain type of way, then got sacked and spent a bit of time out of the out out of the game, went to Athletic Madrid, worked at Simeone for a bit, learn his sort of defensive style because that was the bit glaring hole in his and his game.
00:09:22
Global Sports Podcast Network
Well.
00:09:23
Michael
Then went to Newcastle and has been very good for all intents and purposes. I think like that that sort of time needed to get good um is key.
00:09:33
Michael
And I think with the example of Vincent Company, I think that's name recognition rather than like him playing a good ah good style. I don't think Russell Martin's getting any sort of consideration for any big job.
00:09:45
Michael
But I think like the game. i think you you could make two cases you could make a case that he needed to get sacked and kind of have that hardship and then go away learn his trade to come back um or you could say that if south hampton had a bit of a like longer, a more future view of of their squad. like You stick with Russell Martin, and you might be bottom of the league, but then you get the money from the Premier League, you rebuild, and then when you come back up, you can play that style of football, because like throughout the spine of their team, they have
00:10:20
Michael
decent players. They've got Ramstell in goal. They've got Harwood Bellis, who's an England international goal scorer. They've got Fernandez. Finn Downs isn't even isn't even that bad. Onuachi bullied us when he played before he went off injured. Dibbling looks incredible. like like there there There is a good spine in that team. like um and Walker Peters as well, he was grateful a little bit.
00:10:45
Michael
But i think the um i think it's it's i I think it's more short-termism because they're they're not going to stay up even if they get a new manager. So I feel like it's more it would have been more sensible for them to kind of stick with him. He will only do better in the championship next season, probably get them promoted for like without going through the playoffs.
00:11:08
Michael
and then like yeah he Yeah, and they and then they would have been in a better situation and probably be more like a Bournemouth or a Fulham for like going down and then coming back up. So i I like to be the devil's advocate and say that he probably would have been better staying, but I can also see why. I mean, going down the tunnel before it being five now, we've just stormed off down the tunnel. That's a bit of embarrassing. So maybe you just got sacked for that.
00:11:38
Global Sports Podcast Network
I tend to be, Adarsh knows, I tend to be a bit harsher with with some of these managers.

Southampton's Premier League Survival Chances

00:11:45
Global Sports Podcast Network
I think Wolves' manager, I would have sacked him ah already who sacked him before the start of the season, to be honest with you.
00:11:52
Michael
Yeah, I mean I agree with that.
00:11:53
Global Sports Podcast Network
absolute disaster. ru Russell Martin, ah managers like him really annoy me because for me it looks like almost like I don't care about the club. I don't care what's going to happen to to this club. I've got my way of playing and we're just going to do that even if it means we get relegated by January. I think any any manager worth their sort, any manager that's got anything about them will at least try to adapt to the conditions that they find themselves in. And if they can't do that, that, you know, I just think that you shouldn't be in that job. But um it's interesting to see that what kind of team Southampton put out now, right? Because, you know, Premier League survival, you know,
00:12:45
Global Sports Podcast Network
Generally speaking, you know, unless you're in Southampton's position is all important. But as as that ship's held now, is it, do they think, well, look, this season is gone. Let's just have a a good cup run. Or do you think that there is a chance that they'll think, you know what, if we can beat Liverpool, we maybe we can kickstart something for the rest of the season, Adash.
00:13:07
Adarsh
I definitely think this stuff happens to me. I think whenever any team loses a manager, there is that sort of bounce that comes from the squad. um So I do think they will be up for the game. i think I personally don't think it's too late for them to stay up. I know their bottom of the league cut a drift a few points from. I think it's Wolves that are next. And then Crystal Palace, Leicester, that sort of conglomerate of teams at the bottom. But I don't think it's too late. And I think if they get a manager in to Canada, unlike Russell Martin,
00:13:36
Adarsh
and can sort of, you know, give teams a proper a proper game and not sort of, you know, go 3-4 down, make those mistakes in the back, then I think they do have a chance. And I think, yeah, this game on, well, this game against Liverpool is going to be a good opportunity for them to bounce back, even if even if they get knocked out but have a good performance, kind of similar to a few weeks ago against us, then I think it's at least a foundation for them to work on, but it is going to be tough for them regardless. So, um yeah, let's just see what happens really.
00:14:04
Global Sports Podcast Network
All right, but before people start thinking this is like a daily Southampton, <unk> let's get back to Liverpool.

Impact of Arne Slott's Suspension

00:14:09
Global Sports Podcast Network
um Liverpool boss Arnie's slot is suspended for this game after picking up his third yellow card at the weekend in that, you know, in that really eventful draw um against Fulham. I'm just thinking, do you think that this can impact the team in any way Michael because I mean normally I think not right because you know it's it's just a manager is either on the touch line or he's not but one of the real features of Liverpool this season has been slots in game management you know tweaking his formation tactics in game so is is this a bigger blow for Liverpool going into this game and would normally be the case?
00:14:47
Michael
ah Yeah, and well, I mean compared to when Klopp got the occasional touchline ban, I think I think Klopp was more It wasn't as much of a tinker as you're in the game as slot seems to be so I can really see why you why you think that that could be a big a Big problem for us, especially if we've got some kids playing like they maybe don't know the system as well but then that then it's down to like the the big leaders on the pitch if Van Dyke does play or or even like some of the not as big players like Endo is 31. He knows what he's doing. he's He seems like a good student. So I think like those sort of players are going to need to step up and be on the pitch. And then I think it's going to be a bit more of a kind of ah instinct game, maybe, um where the players are given a bit more of onus to kind of ah take take it how they want. And I think we've got good enough players to
00:15:43
Michael
ah work a bit of magic and I mean Slott's assistants are probably as ah as adequately good as Slott and probably it's going to be a little bit of a drop off but they always do like a big group hug after we score don't they so like I think it's a fully team effort. so
00:16:00
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah. Yeah. Well, I mean, we' we'll see. I think it could be a tougher night than we, than we think. I think, especially with, um, you know, some Mary's maybe getting behind the team after the sacking of Russell Martin and, and us having really kind of changed, uh, first 11, um, they did give us a bit of a scare. We we only beat them three to a couple of weeks back. So let's see what happens. Um, we're going to go for a short break. We'll be back after this very brief message.
00:17:04
Global Sports Podcast Network
Okay, welcome back.

Liverpool's Lineup and Player Fitness

00:17:05
Global Sports Podcast Network
Let's get into some predicted lineups and a score prediction. A little bit of news regarding the team. Arne Slott reporting that Costas Simicas is close to returning. He joined first team training yesterday. No date yet on Connor Bradley or Ibrahima Kanate.
00:17:26
Global Sports Podcast Network
academy player James Norris. Looks like a possibility for this game. um Possibly a left back should slot not decide, ah decide not to risk the likes of Joe Gomez. So let's start off in in goal. I'm expecting we're all going for Kelleher in goal.
00:17:44
Adarsh
Yep.
00:17:44
Michael
ye
00:17:45
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, we we we're back to that kind of Kelleher back in for the Cup games.
00:17:45
Michael
Yep.
00:17:49
Global Sports Podcast Network
I think the back four is going to be an interesting one though. what Where do you see that um going Michael? will Let's say in terms of the right back position.
00:17:59
Michael
The right back position I thought was a little bit difficult. i Ideally, I wouldn't ah start Trent, but outside of Trent, the next right back I could see, oh well, I'm discounting Gomez and Concer who are seem to be a bit better at centre back. Gomez could play right back but he's being preferred at centre back. Is Isaac Mabea who played he's in the academy and played at right back for under Klopp ah in a few pre-seasons like he could play but I can't see that so I probably would say Trent's probably gonna play maybe Isaac might be on the bench but or maybe it might be Gomez like it could really there's no sort of set um set right back at the at the moment if you if you don't want to risk Trent because we've got a big game coming up but I'm gonna go Trent
00:18:53
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, i'm I'm going for Trent reluctantly as well. What about you yourself, Adash? It doesn't seem to be much option, is there?
00:18:58
Adarsh
um i think I don't think there is much option, but I do see, I just think the the game's coming thick and fast. I think this is a good opportunity to restaurant. That's why I've gone Kwanzaa right back and then my two center backs are Nalo and Gomez. So that's what I've gone for. And then Norris, the left back that you mentioned.
00:19:17
Adarsh
We'll play left back. That's my back four, because I think Gomez has to play to purely just because of experience. I think we need that in that center back, especially if you've got two youngsters. Well, three, if you count if you count Kwanza, but obviously he's got more experience.
00:19:29
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:19:29
Adarsh
but That's why I've gone for that just so that you rest Trent. But I can see a world where Trent also plays, but that's what I've gone for.
00:19:35
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, I do see, I'd see that shout, but i I'm just thinking that slot may think that that's too inexperienced a back line. And you could, you could have then a situation where Liverpool get embarrassed, but they lose like three, four, four nil. And that, even though those players aren't playing at the weekend,
00:19:55
Global Sports Podcast Network
just that whole narrative builds then that we're on a run. you know we've We've drawn two games and then we we lose. So ah think I think Trent will start and maybe get subbed off for for one of the academy players in the second half, hopefully when we've kind of put the game to to bed. um But I've gone for Trent, Kwanzaa, Gomez, um and Norris at left bank.
00:20:25
Global Sports Podcast Network
So.
00:20:25
Michael
Yeah, I mean, that's very similar to mine. I would like to see Nalo play um just because he sounds like he's doing really well in the academy. Big boy for how old he is. like He seems like he could physically ah do a job, but I'm worried if if that on-a-watch-you guy plays, he's like six-foot-eight and he might bully.
00:20:45
Michael
the the poor kid. So I went Tranquansa, Gomez, and then Norris, but I reckon Norris and Simicast, they all get substituted for one another. Whichever one starts, the other one will just be substituted, just because Simicast doesn't have the much fitness and Norris is... I mean, he's not a kid, he's like 22, but he's a kid.
00:21:09
Global Sports Podcast Network
experience. Yeah. As long as they don't don't play in Van Dyke. I think he's the one that we really need to protect because he's he's played every game.
00:21:14
Adarsh
Yeah, thanks.
00:21:17
Global Sports Podcast Network
ah Let's move on to midfield then.

Debate on Midfield and Defensive Lineup

00:21:20
Global Sports Podcast Network
McAllister's ban is over. So I would expect him to play just to get his kind of sharpness back in ah before the weekend's game.
00:21:32
Global Sports Podcast Network
um what What do you guys think? Michael?
00:21:35
Michael
um I mean, but like yeah, I forgot that Mark Alistair hadn't played for the last, what was it, two, is it two games?
00:21:43
Adarsh
Yeah.
00:21:44
Michael
that he hasn't played, so like maybe he needs that.
00:21:45
Global Sports Podcast Network
you suspended something in the Premier League, yeah.
00:21:48
Michael
Yeah, maybe he needs that sort of ah help to get back in. i think I think I saw that Jones maybe came off with a slight sort of ah little injury, comment but I think it's all all fine. But if that kind of persists, he will be needed. But personally, I want to see Endo and Morton play, because they played in the last round. um I think Morton is far too good to not get any minutes. And I think Morton and McAllister are very similar. So yeah you wouldn't really play them next to each other.
00:22:17
Michael
um so i probably So that's why I would play those two, um but I can also see the case for Macalester. But yeah, my midfield's more than an endo.
00:22:27
Global Sports Podcast Network
um What about you yourself, Adash?
00:22:30
Adarsh
Yeah, I think that's, I've gone for, well, as a midfield three, Endo, Morton and Elliot, just because I think, um that's kind of why I've gone for that back four as well.
00:22:35
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, I've got Frellia as well.
00:22:41
Adarsh
Cause I think Endo could do a great job. And if you play probably the double pivot of him and Morton, I'm i'm with Michael. i I think he's really, really good. And he's got, he had that season last year in the championship with Hull and he was one of their best players.
00:22:53
Adarsh
So I think I'd like to see him play more and I think he, he starts this game. So that's why I've gone for that midfield.
00:22:59
Global Sports Podcast Network
I think I've got a feeling he'll play McAllister. Like I said, I think he's missed two games now. And, you know, at this level, missing a couple of games, you you do miss a little bit of sharpness. I think that he will play McAllister to get him ready for Sunday, even if it's like 60 minutes.
00:23:15
Global Sports Podcast Network
um
00:23:16
Michael
Yeah. I think, I think you can also only get away with so many non first

Potential Front Three and Salah's Records

00:23:20
Michael
team players.
00:23:20
Adarsh
Yeah.
00:23:20
Michael
So like, I think you probably get away with three, maybe four at a push. Um, but yeah, I I've got one or two more non first team players. So I went from the only, yeah, I really like him.
00:23:31
Global Sports Podcast Network
Are we all going for Elliot though? Oh really?
00:23:35
Adarsh
Ooh.
00:23:37
Michael
He's so good.
00:23:38
Global Sports Podcast Network
He's a very good player isn't he?
00:23:38
Adarsh
It is quality to be fair.
00:23:40
Michael
And I think the the little bits he's featured are in that sort of like attacking mid role. So I think, I think him coming up and then like, I, the the thing is, if sort of, I've, my front three is, uh, Diaz, Dan's and Kieza bought.
00:23:57
Adarsh
i've gone with the same.
00:23:57
Michael
um If Keizer isn't fit, I would play Elliot on the right. If he is fit, I could maybe see why you put Elliot in the middle. I think Elliot has to play. He's played very well when he's come on. um And I think he's is one of those players that once he gets up to fitness, I think him and the other buyer could swap around and then we just seem to have more depth all of a sudden.
00:24:19
Michael
as opposed to Jones covering two positions.
00:24:19
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:24:21
Michael
Jones and McAlister fight. Elliott and Selsa by fight. I think we're just in a better position for that. But yeah.
00:24:28
Global Sports Podcast Network
And i'd I'd like to, I'd like to see Elliot's stick in midfield because I think that's his best position. And I think we've got now enough forwards for, you know, that front three to be populated by actual forwards. So my front three, I've gone for Kiesa, Nunez and Gackbo.
00:24:47
Global Sports Podcast Network
I think um Nunez has played himself into the cup team ah because because of his his performances recently. um I think Kiesa just needs minutes and we we need to wrestle at some point. And even though you know Mo is one of those players who just doesn't want to miss any kind of game,
00:25:12
Global Sports Podcast Network
um I think I'm i'm hoping that Slott picks Kiesa to get some minutes in him. Nunez. And i'm gone I've gone for Gackpo because I think um he scored eight goals in eight games in this competition. So he clearly loves the League Cup. And I also think that Diaz, you know, his game is so different. He plays that kind of high intensity game.
00:25:39
Global Sports Podcast Network
that he just needs I think more rest in between games and someone like Gackpo. So I can see that ah being the front three but Salah is going to really be pushing for a position because he's one goal away from joining Billy Liddell.
00:25:58
Global Sports Podcast Network
in fourth place on Liverpool's list of all time goal scorers with 228 goals. um He scored nine times in 12 previous games against Southampton. So he will be itching to, you know, to get on onto the pitch and and break some more records. Adash, what's your front three?
00:26:19
Adarsh
I've gone for the same front three as Michael, Kiesa, Dan's and Diaz. um I think Dan's being back to fitness. I think it's a great game for him to come in. and I do think Dan's in in the January window will go out on loan because I think that was the plan before the start of the season, but obviously he had that injury. So I feel like this is a good opportunity for him to kind of showcase his his skill set. I mean, it's a good opposition. He scored against Southampton last season in the FA Cup as well. So it's probably already got a good track record. He knows how they play. um Obviously they've got a different manager, no manager now, but I think it's a good game for Dan's and I really want to see him play, especially Nunez not being informed. If he can put in a good performance, it kind of
00:26:56
Adarsh
i don't want to say put puts pressure on because it's still very early for him but it's a good it's a good cameo for him and a good opportunity for him so that's why i've gone for that
00:27:04
Michael
Yeah. Yeah, I agree with Dan's shout. I think he is he's just a he's just the build of a Liverpool striker and he seems like he's clinical, which is kind of what we need. I mean, Jota is coming back and I think he will probably feature maybe just off the bench just to get a bit of but minutes in his legs. But I've got some other shouts for some other academy products who who I reckon should get a game. One of them being Ngum Moha.
00:27:32
Adarsh
oh yes yes yes yes
00:27:33
Michael
who is the left winger. We got him from Chelsea. Chelsea were very, very upset and now all our scouts have been banned from Cobham because we got him.
00:27:42
Global Sports Podcast Network
Chelsea probably can't even realise he's gone.
00:27:44
Michael
Yeah, well, apparently they're upset, but some of the clips of him in the under 21s, I think he's like 16 and he's playing, oh, like 17, he's playing for the under 21s and he's just absolutely like ruining people.
00:27:44
Adarsh
and him
00:27:45
Global Sports Podcast Network
He's got new players, right?
00:27:58
Michael
So I really, I'd like to see him in proper football. ah maybe i'd Maybe seeing him and Dan's and a few of the other academy guys against Art Crinton in the future would be really good to see.
00:28:10
Michael
Another one, Kony Daugherty, he was playing really well last season. He's another left winger so we're kind of stacked in that position. And then McConnell, he played a lot on the underclop and he's kind of
00:28:19
Adarsh
and
00:28:21
Michael
gone a bit missing.
00:28:21
Global Sports Podcast Network
Mm.
00:28:22
Michael
um He could be another sort of deep-lying midfielder. He's a little bit more defensive, I'd say, than Morton, so maybe he could have have a shout of playing alongside McAllister instead, just to kind of balance that midfield out.
00:28:36
Michael
um But yeah, I think those were those are some good shots.
00:28:39
Adarsh
Unbel mentions, definitely.
00:28:41
Michael
Yeah, honourable mention.
00:28:41
Global Sports Podcast Network
honourable man ah Come on Michael, you you know you don't win anything with kids, right? so
00:28:46
Michael
yeah yeah ah Definitely haven't won anything.
00:28:47
Global Sports Podcast Network
and right let's Let's round off the episode with some contract talk and some transfer

Andy Robertson's Future and Left-Back Needs

00:28:55
Global Sports Podcast Network
speculation. now After Andy Robertson's red card at the weekend and he's had a bit of a shaky start to this season,
00:29:02
Global Sports Podcast Network
There are lots of rumors surrounding possible alternatives that Liverpool may target as either a replacement um or, and this is my view, you know competition for that left back spot. A quick word about Robertson. Where do you guys stand? but you know For me,
00:29:20
Global Sports Podcast Network
you know He's had so much flack in the last few weeks. And I know that he has't he hasn't been at the standard that he himself has set over the last few seasons.
00:29:27
Adarsh
Thank
00:29:30
Global Sports Podcast Network
But I i just think that people are a bit hasty in saying, get rid.
00:29:32
Adarsh
you.
00:29:35
Global Sports Podcast Network
I definitely think that we need someone to come in at left back and to give him real competition for that um spot. But I just think having someone like Andy Robertson in the squad,
00:29:48
Global Sports Podcast Network
you don't want to lose too many of your leaders. We've already got van Dyck and Salah potentially, you know, they could at the end of the season, they could be gone. um And so from that kind of leadership squad, and even Trent could be, on could be gone. And it just leaves Alison.
00:30:06
Global Sports Podcast Network
from from your kind of leadership team so I think Robertson has a real role to play at the club so I do think that we should keep him but where do you guys stand on Robertson in terms of do we keep him or get rid of Dash?
00:30:23
Adarsh
I definitely think you keep him. I think ah think it's more kind of, I agree with you, so I think you get competition in for that position. I think Simicast as well, I'm not too sure about his future, um mainly because if we do bring in someone like Kirkez or Robinson,
00:30:38
Adarsh
then I think he might be shipped out but I don't know too much about that. I think just on the point of the squad and the role he plays, I'm guessing you guys have seen all the clips on on YouTube and social media, he's such a like vibrant character in in the squad and I think he's he's very important in that sense, like kind of bringing people together, he's very happy, very jokey and Yeah, definitely someone that in a squad where you're going for these big trophies, you need that experience, but you also need someone to kind of take the pressure off. And he does that really, really well on his performances. I know he's had a few dips, obviously the red card, he had the his nightmare against Saka a few weeks ago. I think it's just one of those. I think he will kind of get back to that level. um It's just maybe he just needs a bit of a break from ah being out the team. And maybe Simakas coming in is actually a good opportunity for him to have a bit of a break, a bit of and obviously he's read he's suspended anyway. So I think it's
00:31:27
Adarsh
I think it's more... Yeah, he has played loads of minutes as well in previous Klopp seasons and even for Scotland as well, so maybe it's a bit of that. I don't think it's completely him just completely falling off a cliff. I think it's a combination of things.
00:31:40
Global Sports Podcast Network
Michael?
00:31:42
Michael
ah Yeah, I mean I think I think he was 30 now, isn't he? um And I think Simakas is he's a good understudy in the moment But I think in a terms of like a long-term project I think there are probably better fits for the system We want to play like how I think Bradley is probably actually a better fit for the system than Trent is um like there's a probably a better fit and a younger profile like some of the people who are being linked to our
00:31:57
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:32:09
Michael
a variety of ages from like 21 or like 19. I've seen like some ah left back in Argentina to being like linked to a stupid Yann and Robinson who are both 27 each. And I think, I think FSG and the, and the Liverpool system is to buy young. So I can't, I like, I think Robertson is two or three years too old um in terms of like,
00:32:35
Michael
getting him as the as the competition. But i and I back the idea that it's competition rather than replacement because I think Simicast is probably actually more sellable. um And also we've got players like Owen Beck coming in.
00:32:52
Global Sports Podcast Network
Mm.
00:32:52
Michael
back next season who's playing well for Blackburn and has been playing well over the last few seasons. I think giving him a shout um would be good and I think he could be the long term successor to Robertson in either a starting capacity potentially if he picks up a little bit more or in a sort of second choice kind of like a Bradley sort of position. So I think looking for a starter to replace, to comp compete with Robertson now and then to succeeding basically is is what we should be looking for.
00:33:24
Global Sports Podcast Network
yeah You mentioned Fulham's Anthony Robinson um is one name that keeps cropping up. And he really impressed in that 2-2 draw at Anfield. But I agree with you. I think that he's 27 years old, even though I think he's a very, very good player. I don't think he fits ah Liverpool's kind of age profile in terms of um buying someone to ah take over from Robinson.
00:33:52
Global Sports Podcast Network
But the other guy that's been linked is Bournemouth's left back, Milos Kerkes, 21 years old, more like it in terms of the age profile, Hungary International. He was brought in by then technical director at Bournemouth, Richard Hughes, who's now the sporting director at Liverpool. So there is an obvious link there, Adash. How do you feel about someone like Kerkes?
00:34:13
Adarsh
I've been very impressed with him since he's come to the Premier League. I think he's got a really good energy. He's up and down. um He's also really solid defensively as well. It's something I've noticed in his game. like For someone who's so explosive going forward, he can also track back. And he's a brilliant outball for Bournemouth when I've watched them play. um he He combines really well with whether it's Clive at Semenyo or Tavernet, whoever plays on that side. So he's definitely got attributes that FSG would be looking at from a potential left back, whether that's a replacement or competition.
00:34:43
Adarsh
But I've been really impressed and obviously he's got the link, not just um the Bournemouth link with FSG and ah Richard Hughes, but also Sobersly and Hungary.
00:34:51
Global Sports Podcast Network
my
00:34:52
Adarsh
So I think that's a good, to maybe maybe that's another reason for him to be tempted to come to Anfield.
00:34:52
Global Sports Podcast Network
and
00:34:56
Global Sports Podcast Network
It could be. um Let's finish off with some contract

Luis Diaz's Contract and Future at Liverpool

00:35:00
Global Sports Podcast Network
talk. um Obviously, the big talk surrounding the club when it comes to contracts is Trent Alexander Arnold, Salah, and Virgil van Dijk. But another one of our high performance performers, Luis Diaz, is up for contract talks. His contract ends in 2027. Not too far away. He's currently on the same terms that he agreed in 2022 when he signed from Porto.
00:35:24
Global Sports Podcast Network
£55,000 a week, bless him. But i mean it's nowhere near the amount that you'd expect to pack player of his calibre performing at this level um for a club the size of Liverpool. There are reports in some Colombian outlets that Diaz's agent has rejected Liverpool's opening ah proposal for a new contract and clubs like AC Milan, Barcelona and PSG are closely monitoring. um Michael your your thoughts on that?
00:35:58
Michael
Yeah, I mean, I think, um I mean, he's a very key player for us. He is. Also, he's competing for that left-hand position with Gackpo. So he's not as sort of nailed in as he once was this season. um But I can see why he wants a new contract. 55,000 is chump change for a Premier League footballer. But I think also it's kind of forgotten that Liverpool has a fairly strict sort of wage structure. And if you're not one of the really big boys, you're not going to be on massive money. um Like I think at one point we're like,
00:36:31
Michael
tre Trent was only on £150,000 and he's one of the big three. um ah He was at one point, I don't know what he's on now, I think it's more like £250,000 but um we we like to be sustainable so I think there's going to be parameters and there has been noise about Dias wanting to kind of or whether his dad wants him to leave or someone like that wants him to leave because there was links to PSG, there was links to Barcelona, like they've talked he's talked about that quite openly. So I think like if that keeps persisting and he doesn't want to agree on new contracts, I think
00:37:09
Michael
Diaz being older than Gackpo, I think Diaz is a little bit more of a sellable asset. so i can see that like And he's got two years left. if If he doesn't agree at this season, I could see him being sold in the summer.
00:37:22
Michael
and like
00:37:24
Global Sports Podcast Network
I could just selling everyone is just selling or he's selling trend is off you go.
00:37:26
Michael
Yeah.
00:37:28
Global Sports Podcast Network
Go on. We've got we've got some year old in the academy.
00:37:29
Michael
i i but I back the the the academy and I back the the Liverpool transfer team to pull off a deal because a Dias has only really come good in the last sort of season, season and a half.
00:37:43
Michael
like like compared to what he Like when he first came he was good, then dropped off, then was back good again.
00:37:43
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:37:50
Michael
So like I think he's um don't get me wrong. He's very important, but I, I, I back the, the system that we have in place to, if he, if he is a bit too much of a diva and doesn't want to agree for a reasonable amount of money.
00:38:05
Michael
I mean, 150,000 pounds is nothing really compared to like what other players are on. So like it should be a doable deal, but I can, I can see us surviving without him.
00:38:16
Global Sports Podcast Network
I'm just glad that Michael's not in charge of contract negotiations with all our stars. It would be like, low see you later, Mo.
00:38:21
Michael
I drive with hard bargain.
00:38:24
Global Sports Podcast Network
See you, Virgil. Off you go, Trent.
00:38:26
Michael
Nah, I'd get the big boys, but... It's just pushing the boat down the line, he's a bit old.
00:38:29
Global Sports Podcast Network
ah da
00:38:31
Global Sports Podcast Network
what What do you think on the Diaz situation?
00:38:36
Adarsh
It's a bit of a tricky one, actually, because I agree with Michael. Like, you don't want to, like, FSG and Liverpool have a structure. You don't want to, they won't go about it in a way that's, you know, not going to be sustainable for the club. You've also, obviously, without talking too much about Trent, Mo and Virgil, you've got that big situation as well. So, and that might take a bit more money away from the budget towards extending contracts for other players as well. so I can see I can actually see a world where he where he he does leave little boy There has been the sort of flirting with other clubs like Barcelona and I think last season there was talk of in Man City, but obviously that that's never gonna happen um I think I would love to see him say stay.
00:39:17
Adarsh
I think he has improved this season. Gackpo I think has been the best better player, but yeah, I will see what happens I think hopefully you can renew renew his contract and stay a bit longer
00:39:19
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:39:27
Global Sports Podcast Network
I think GAPPO has actually been a factor in Diaz's upping his game because it's it's given them that kind of competition.
00:39:34
Michael
It's a proper fight.
00:39:34
Global Sports Podcast Network
um It is, it's a proper fight.
00:39:36
Adarsh
yeah
00:39:38
