Introduction and Episode Overview

Global Sports Podcast Network
Welcome everybody to Episode 10. I believe that 10 double figures of that Saturday feeling. Here we are on Friday afternoon, and it's going to be 30 minutes of top quality content brought to you by the Global Sports Podcast Network. We're going to talk about four things today. We're going to talk about is the title race already over. We're going to talk about Spurs v. Man United, the big game on Sunday. Who's worse?
00:00:34
Global Sports Podcast Network
We're going to take a deep dive into that. We're going to take a look at last week's villains. Nick's on a bit of a high horse about that, so I'm interested to know what he wants to bang on about. And we look ahead to this week's key fixtures and make some

Meet the Hosts: Joe and Nick

predictions. And joining me, Ken Davis, in the palatial Global Sports Podcast Network Studios, our chief correspondent for football analysis at Potato Grower and Merchant. It's Joe Forrester.
00:01:03
Joe Forrester
ah Hello, hello, it's nice to be back chaps
00:01:06
Global Sports Podcast Network
nice to have you back and chief picture editor at razzle 1990 to 1996 it's nix it's mr nick britain how you doing nick but time they were heavy days nick weren't they you remember that that's why you wear glasses right okay so let's kick off
00:01:16
Nick Britten
Have you? I thought I blurred out my background. I didn't think you could see anything.
00:01:21
Joe Forrester
for For younger listeners, ask your parents. but
00:01:23
Nick Britten
yeah Very much so. yeah don Or don't, to be honest with you.
00:01:26
Joe Forrester
yeah da
00:01:31
Joe Forrester
yeah
00:01:35
Global Sports Podcast Network
um There were scenes, weren't there, on Wednesday night at the Liverpool Everton game when that ah that goal went rocketing in to the top left-hand corner ah that deprived Liverpool of another two points, but they're still seven points clear. So the question I've got for everybody is this.

Is the Title Race Over?

00:01:58
Global Sports Podcast Network
14 games to go. Seven points in it. Liverpool, Arsenal are the only people, I think I've got any chance. Is it a done deal or are we still oh we still wondering whether the title is going to Anfield?
00:02:14
Nick Britten
Well, I think the answer is it's a done deal.
00:02:14
Global Sports Podcast Network
Nick.
00:02:18
Nick Britten
ah think I think it's over andone with yeah and now. Listen, if you'd asked me in the 96th minute of the Mergeside Derby on Wednesday night, I would have said it's definitely a done deal because nine points is is unassailable at the stage of the season.
00:02:30
Nick Britten
and James Tarkowski, what a finish that was by the way. What a shot.
00:02:32
Global Sports Podcast Network
Oh, yeah.
00:02:34
Nick Britten
And yes no that's kind of that.
00:02:34
Joe Forrester
That noise it get us in as well.
00:02:37
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, that I mean, that that it erupted in a way I've not heard the condition erupt in a very long time.
00:02:42
Nick Britten
Well, probably since the 80s when the last one and I think it was a great finish and a fitting into the game. And then obviously there was a more fitting into the game a few minutes later when, when all hell broke loose. um But that's, I suppose you could say it's kept it.
00:02:58
Nick Britten
vaguely open, um but only for 24 hours. After which, news of a season-ending injury to Kai Havarts, whose Arsenal's only kind of recognized half-decent striker. I mean, he doesn't score that many, but he was a bit of a focal point up front for them. And with him out and with Saka out, essentially Arsenal have zero strike force now.

Arsenal's Injury Concerns

00:03:18
Nick Britten
So where are they gonna score the goals? and And realistically, when you look down the table, you've got Forrest in third, you've got Chelsea in fourth,
00:03:26
Nick Britten
You know, for us to have a great season, but they're not going to, they're not going to catch Liverpool. Let's face it.
00:03:31
Global Sports Podcast Network
No.
00:03:31
Nick Britten
They're not capable of it. Chelsea have got their own problems. Man City, we all know. I mean, how on earth their fifth? You know, and who knows? So the reality is it's only Arsenal that can catch them or could have caught them.
00:03:42
Nick Britten
But without Saka now for a while, and certainly without Habits now for a while, they're not going to score enough goals. I think it's done and dusted.
00:03:50
Global Sports Podcast Network
Makes a lot of sense. Joe, what do you think on the other side of the

Tottenham's Struggles

00:03:53
Global Sports Podcast Network
of North London?
00:03:54
Joe Forrester
So, do you know what? I mean, yeah, I think that the Kai Havoc thing is obviously absolutely massive. And it's not it's not necessarily his his kind of contributions in front of goal. He just does what Arteta wants, doesn't he? He fits that system, works hard, kind of does exactly as he's instructed. I think he's a hugely valuable player for them. As you as Nick says, no recognized striker now. You kind of find it very hard to see how Arsenal are going to make up that gap.
00:04:17
Joe Forrester
I think at the end of last season they went on an outrageous run, didn't they? Was it 16 out of 18 Premier League games that they won?
00:04:22
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:04:24
Joe Forrester
Which is absolutely bonkers, can't seem to be doing that this time. From a Tottenham point of view, having watched Liverpool absolutely humble us at Anfield in the league cup without even trying. um I mean, most Alabali woke up during that game and still managed to pretty much single-handedly run it. I cannot see anybody catching them or them dropping many points in what is a little bit of a substandard Premier League in terms of quality elsewhere.
00:04:53
Global Sports Podcast Network
I think that's a very fair point. I was looking at the next four fixtures for both Liverpool and Arsenal.

Upcoming Fixtures Predictions

00:05:00
Global Sports Podcast Network
So we've got 14 games to go. By the time these fixtures are played, obviously there'll be 10 games to go. um Worth just seeing what we think the points tally is going to be for each. So Liverpool, Wolves at home, Villa away on Wednesday, City away, and then Newcastle at home. How many points are Liverpool getting from those four games, Nick?
00:05:21
Nick Britten
I'm going to go for eight points. I think we'll get eight points because that's all that's all they need. right I think they'll beat Wolves.
00:05:28
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:05:29
Nick Britten
They'll win one of the two out of Villa and who's the fourth one who are playing City?
00:05:37
Global Sports Podcast Network
City, City, it says Villa away, City away, Newcastle at home.
00:05:38
Nick Britten
Yeah, i think i we yeah i think I think City away is three points. I think Wolves at home is three points um and I think I think Villa away is a hard one.
00:05:49
Nick Britten
A point there will do. And I think and i think Newcastle will go to Anfield and be good enough to get a point. It's really difficult to know for Liverpool, when you get such a big lead like this, are they capable of just keeping their foot to the metal?
00:06:07
Nick Britten
Are they capable of doing it to to that sort of that level? Obviously, they've got Newcastle as well in the in the lead cup final coming up. um Do you get a bit comfortable?
00:06:16
Global Sports Podcast Network
I can't see it.
00:06:18
Nick Britten
Once you've got such a big cushion, is there a psychological unconscious thing that you don't mean to, but do you naturally drop? I don't know. But anyway, by the by, I don't think they'll lose any of those games. And I think it'll be kind of eight point hole, which will be more than good enough to keep the cushion at the top.
00:06:33
Global Sports Podcast Network
So Joe, if Arsenal have got Leicester

Spurs vs. Man United: A Valentine's Day Clash

00:06:36
Global Sports Podcast Network
away, West Ham at home, Forest away, Man United away, with all the difficulties up front, how many points are they going to claw from those four games?
00:06:47
Joe Forrester
that You'd probably say, I mean, you'd probably say nine because the only tough game there really is Forest away. um Obviously, Leicester, Manchester United. Who is the the other team? Sorry, mention Ken.
00:07:01
Global Sports Podcast Network
Leicester at home, West Ham, i sorry, Leicester away, West Ham at home, Forest away, Man United away.
00:07:06
Joe Forrester
Yeah, that's it. I mean, Old Trafford's not a tough place to go anymore. Leicester are obviously pretty rotten. Forest are a very decent side, and we'll give them a tough game. West Ham haven't had the bump that they would expect to have under Graham Potter, even without a recognised striker. Arsenal are very robust. I mean, I've said this before, they're basically just George Graham's boring, boring Arsenal rolled in glitter. But, I mean, essentially, they are still good enough to beat three out of those four teams, I'd say.
00:07:35
Global Sports Podcast Network
So nine points. So we reckon it's going to be six points in it with 10 games to go. I mean, stranger things have happened. Not many, but maybe, maybe we're writing it off too early in it.
00:07:49
Global Sports Podcast Network
Just saying.
00:07:50
Nick Britten
No, I don't think yeah, terrible.
00:07:50
Global Sports Podcast Network
And you know how good I am at predictions.
00:07:53
Nick Britten
So, so therefore I'll do the opposite of what you say. Uh, I don't know. I don't think I don't, I mean, look, seven points now, six points in four gauge time.
00:08:03
Nick Britten
When, you know, as games run out, it's just going to be that it's it's going to be six and seven, eight points gap from here to the end of the season.
00:08:12
Global Sports Podcast Network
Well, we'll do the same exercise.
00:08:12
Nick Britten
That's what I got.
00:08:13
Global Sports Podcast Network
We'll do the same exercise after those four games have been played and see see where we get to. So, great.
00:08:19
Nick Britten
Yeah. um I'm interested, like sorry, finally ke before we move on, yeah i'm really see what I'm really interested to see what Arsenal do ah yeah know in in in in the up and coming games because they've got Man City at home, this and no they haven't, they've played Man City at home.
00:08:36
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:08:36
Nick Britten
They've got, where are they?
00:08:38
Global Sports Podcast Network
Let's go away.
00:08:38
Nick Britten
They're away at Leicester, aren't they? Is this the great rehabilitation of Raheem Sterling?
00:08:43
Joe Forrester
Well, he's gonna have to play, isn't he?
00:08:44
Nick Britten
He is going to have to play and is he going to play as a nine?
00:08:44
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:08:46
Nick Britten
Is he going to play through the middle? Are they going to do, are they going to do a false nine? Are they going to do what Man United do and just stick a midfielder up top? Because why not? It's, it's, it's really interesting to see what's going to happen and whether or not it works. Cause if it doesn't work, then you're looking at a load of nil-nils, aren't you? Let's face it.
00:09:02
Global Sports Podcast Network
Well, it makes that game quite an interesting game for all kinds of reasons. So brilliant. So this podcast, that Saturday feeling part of the Global Sports Podcast Network, the only network brings you exclusive daily news and views on your Premier League team, or whatever that might be, women's football.
00:09:20
Global Sports Podcast Network
and loads of other things as well. In fact, we're about to launch a yeah and ah World Cup podcast, which I'm looking forward to doing. So, okay, moving on, moving down towards the basement ah of the Premier League, there is another big game coming up on Sunday, and that is Spurs against Man United. Now, normally, in a normal season, we'd be looking at this um both on the fringes,
00:09:49
Global Sports Podcast Network
of the Champions League, thinking who's going to knock the other one out of the contention of the Champions League. We're not on the fringes, are we? We're not even in the same ballpark.

Addressing Misogyny in Football

00:10:00
Nick Britten
We are on the fringes.
00:10:00
Global Sports Podcast Network
So, we're fringes at relegation.
00:10:01
Nick Britten
yeah We are on the fringes. We're on the fringes of the channel.
00:10:04
Joe Forrester
Yep.
00:10:04
Global Sports Podcast Network
yeah Yeah, indeed. So, now, obviously, we're going to come to you first on this one, Joe, because, you know, obviously, you are youre very knowledgeable about the Spurs situation, pretty knowledgeable, and United's
00:10:15
Joe Forrester
ah wish I wish I wasn't.
00:10:18
Global Sports Podcast Network
so So who do you reckon, and I'm not going to say who's going to come out on top here, who's going to come out on bottom?
00:10:28
Joe Forrester
On Valentine's Day as well, really.
00:10:29
Global Sports Podcast Network
yeah
00:10:30
Nick Britten
well he' talking I'll tell you what, i'll tell you hot Ken, it's February the 14th. You're on it, aren't you? First you're talking about Razzle, now you're talking about this.
00:10:39
Joe Forrester
It's date night. um But you know what? I mean, the thing is, while Spurs are in an absolutely rotten position, there is one caveat I think that all Premier League fans have at the moment of, well, we're not united.
00:10:53
Joe Forrester
and They, I mean, they've really struggled since Amroom came in. up' they He's clearly a very exciting young coach. He's obviously very dogmatic. I think the difference between Spurs and Manchester United is you have two, there I mean, there's a lot of parallels. So both managers who want to play a very specific system both fan bases who are largely upset with the ownership, both managers being criticized.
00:11:17
Joe Forrester
I think the difference is, is that Spurs, essentially the players keep getting injured because of the system and he doesn't have the players to play them, but it's kind of a self-fulfilling prophecy.
00:11:23
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, good point.
00:11:26
Joe Forrester
At Manchester United, I'm not sure they really get the system. And Amorim, it almost feels like he's kind of intentionally playing players at a position.
00:11:34
Global Sports Podcast Network
What is the system, Joe, do you think? I mean, if you if we were to say what's the identity of United, I mean, Spurs at least have an identity. I mean, what's United's identity?
00:11:43
Joe Forrester
It's this three at the back wingbacks idea, isn't it? Which obviously, and and that's obviously what he did such great work with sporting with.
00:11:46
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:11:51
Joe Forrester
The problem is, is there was only one defender who was comfortable playing that. And that's Losandro Martinez, who's now done his ACL and won't play again this season. So United are going to really struggle.
00:12:01
Joe Forrester
And I think Amorim has written off this season. ah Both coaches did their ah press conferences Friday afternoon. Amrim was very, very complimentary about Pastor Cogloo, but answered the question about both managers being under pressure by saying like, look, I'm at a bigger club, I'm under more pressure.
00:12:19
Global Sports Podcast Network
I saw that.
00:12:20
Global Sports Podcast Network
Do you think he was referring to Spurs there? Was he was he referring to sporting? you know is is he what Was he saying, I'm in bigger clubs than I'm used to? Or is he saying, actually, we're bigger than Spurs.
00:12:20
Joe Forrester
Yeah.
00:12:31
Global Sports Podcast Network
So mike this is a bigger issue for me.
00:12:34
Joe Forrester
I mean, there's a i think I think there may be a little bit

Pot Noodle Humour

00:12:36
Joe Forrester
kind of, ah it is kind of English as a second language type thing and he's maybe not being derogatory because he was very complimentary about pasta koglu as a coach.
00:12:43
Global Sports Podcast Network
Here he was.
00:12:44
Joe Forrester
Perhaps, I mean, there's an element of him just going like, look, this is Manchester United. It's a global super brand. so it's tough because you kind of got scrutiny on you. um One thing I will say is Tottenham's home form is absolutely rotten and the game is at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium this weekend. Tottenham are windless in the last seven home games, drawing two and losing five That's the worst home run since 2008, which Tottenham fans will remember, was under Juan de Ramos when Spurs found themselves bottom of the Premier League after eight games with only two points. um Conceded first in 15 home games in a single calendar year, yet another record we didn't want. ah Lost eight league matches since November, more than any other team in the entire division, including Leicester Southampton, Wolves, Ipswich. Dropped 16 points from winning positions, so
00:13:33
Joe Forrester
Look, while your night is struggling, spurs aren't any great shakes either.
00:13:37
Global Sports Podcast Network
that When you list it out like that, Joe, it really is appalling. at Nick, ah what's your i mean what's your take on United? If that's the scenario, it's a spurs. Why United failing so miserably under Amorim?
00:13:53
Nick Britten
Well, they're not failing miserably under Amory and they're failing miserably generally and it's quite easy to see why Because they don't score any goals. Their top scorer is Ahmad who's got six goals in 22 games and he's a midfielder I mean, it's it is, you know, the goal difference is minus six They've led in 34 goals and they've scored 28.
00:14:07
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:14:14
Nick Britten
That's the kit. That's the problem because can't score And now if you can't score goals, you're not going to win games as the old cliche goes And yes, they're trying to adapt to a new system Yeah, I think joe's absolutely hit the nail on the head when he says he just doesn't have the players to it They don't know what they're doing yet I expect a full clear out in the summer. I think the Manchester United team that kicks off in August is going to look completely different to the Manchester United team ah that that that is currently here. And the fact that they can't score goals and they've let Marcus Rashford go to Aston Villa, I think says a lot.
00:14:49
Nick Britten
It just says a lot about what the atmosphere and what the culture is around the place at the moment. And it's just been a season of of utter misery. It really has. It's just been miserable. um They've only won two out in the last five, which has just been typical of their season so far.
00:15:05
Nick Britten
um And until they can get a natural goal score. I mean, a 3-4-3 is a great system, but you need somebody to spearhead that.
00:15:12
Global Sports Podcast Network
Oh yeah, you do.
00:15:13
Nick Britten
You know, and they just don't have anybody to spearhead that. So you might want to ask me why are they playing that system at the moment? yeah it's it's It's very interesting when coaches come in, isn't it? And they want to play and you can say probably the same about, uh, and I want to play the system, but I don't have to play as to play it, but I'm going to play it anyway.
00:15:30
Nick Britten
Well, is that, is that a good coaching? I don't know.
00:15:33
Joe Forrester
Well, it's that interesting question, is it? Cause they always do this and kind of look, see, I don't have the players for my system. And there is a part of you like, say it goes, well, change the system. Carlo Ancelotti does it and he's one more than anybody.
00:15:43
Joe Forrester
So, I mean, yeah.
00:15:44
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, know yeah. That makes a lot of sense. Yeah, I was shocked by the number of goals that United scored 28 goals in 24 games. It's not going to get you anywhere apart from hot and third.
00:15:53
Nick Britten
No, ah there there are only seven players there are only seven players in the whole of the Manchester United squad this season who have scored more than one goal.
00:16:00
Global Sports Podcast Network
That's astonishing.
00:16:02
Nick Britten
it's not
00:16:02
Global Sports Podcast Network
One of the things I was just looking at in terms of the some some of the stats in the last couple of games against Palace and Fulham, against Palace two shots on target in the whole game, gets Fulham one shot on target in the whole game.
00:16:15
Global Sports Podcast Network
I mean, there's no creativity. There's just not enough getting enough bodies in the box. Roy Keane was on about this during the week. When you compare him to Liverpool, where Liverpool are just throwing, you know, they're gambling, you know, that did because they want to win.
00:16:29
Joe Forrester
Mmm.
00:16:29
Global Sports Podcast Network
They've got this winning mentality. And, you know, we've all played the game in the sense of when you want to win, you you go and do the extra, go the extra mile, get yourself in a position where you can score. There's none of that at United at the moment.

Spurs vs. Man United: Tactical Predictions

00:16:41
Joe Forrester
Yeah, and also Ken, actually, it's interesting because Nick mentioned the negative goal difference that they have minus six, that's actually largely built on a horrendous away record. So it's minus eight, um their goal difference away from home.
00:16:54
Joe Forrester
So this weekend is the battle of the appalling home record against the atrocious away records. It's who can be worse and managed who could be the least worst of the two.
00:17:06
Global Sports Podcast Network
It sounds unmissable.
00:17:08
Global Sports Podcast Network
You're really selling this.
00:17:08
Joe Forrester
Yeah,
00:17:08
Nick Britten
Telling it to me here, Jack.
00:17:10
Global Sports Podcast Network
so So we better finish this section section by just ah an idea of what we think the outcome is going to be on Sunday. So let's all go around the table and give us your predictions. Give us a score prediction, everyone.
00:17:22
Global Sports Podcast Network
yeah Nick first.
00:17:23
Nick Britten
OK, well, look I think the key to Tottenham is is giving James Madison some game time, because he's a top scorer. It's not much better than Ahmad, he's got 6-22, because James Madison's got 8-22. But to be fair, every time I watch Tottenham, Madison doesn't seem to be on the pitch, so he's probably done quite well.
00:17:37
Joe Forrester
Mm.
00:17:39
Nick Britten
and He's a very good player and and they need that creativit creativity in there. um I think key to this game, and I talked about this ah in a little bit more in last week's episode, is the fact that Tottenham have signed and a really good young striker, Mathis Tell, who's a really good player.
00:17:58
Nick Britten
And unlike other Premier League teams, yeah.
00:17:59
Global Sports Podcast Network
United were after, United were very interested in.
00:18:00
Joe Forrester
Yep.
00:18:02
Nick Britten
Well, Arsenal can look at this and go, maybe we should have done something like that. Man United can look at this and go, maybe we should have done something like that. Fair play to Tottenham. I mean, I know it was very late in the day and Daniel Levy was getting pelters for not bringing in more people, but they have at least recognized the fact that they don't have a striker either with Solanki out injured, whereas their frontline striker entails a really good player. And that might be the difference on Sunday. I think Tottenham will win this game and I think they'll win it maybe 2-0.
00:18:32
Global Sports Podcast Network
Joe.
00:18:33
Joe Forrester
Yeah, I also think Spurs will win. I can't see how, as bad as Tottenham have been, I can't see how United beat Tottenham.
00:18:38
Global Sports Podcast Network
Please stop there.
00:18:41
Joe Forrester
ah Spurs' problem in the last few games has been a complete inability to control the midfield. Actually, there's been a lot of chat about the defence, but the makeshift defence of Kevin Danzo and Ben Davis or Archie Gray or whoever it might be, they've actually done quite well, even against Liverpool conceding four goals.
00:18:56
Joe Forrester
They just had no out ball for the midfield. Busuma and Saram Bentoncourt continually giving the ball away, so that'll have to change. I said on the Tottenham pod, ah which we recorded on on Friday, that I would actually like to see Bergvile and Grace start in midfield, just get the senior players out who aren't playing very well, give the youngsters a chance. Like Nick says, though, everyone's very excited about Mateus Tell. Richarlison's injured, Sonny's bang out of form, Tell would definitely start. And especially with Martinez out, who was the only defender who knew how to play Amorim's system, I can't see them doing much against us. I i think
00:19:31
Joe Forrester
3-1 Spurs. Again, ah I think it'd be a home win.
00:19:34
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, and I'm going to go the same way. I think just when I was looking at the goal tally for United, you know, 28 in 24, I suppose I've scored 48.
00:19:45
Global Sports Podcast Network
in the same number of games. There's clearly a difference in in ah the ability to convert chances into goals. I think that will continue. and um So I'm also going for a Spurs win, but I think it will be a bit closer. I think it'll be a 2-1. I think United will. get I wouldn't be surprised if United score first, just following that so the yeah the issue that Joe was saying earlier, but I think ultimately ah Spurs will come out on top. So we've got three out of three they're going for Spurs win. That'll be interesting. Let's take a quick listen to this.
00:20:54
Global Sports Podcast Network
He's got a sexy voice that bloke, hasn't he?
00:20:56
Joe Forrester
It's like ASMR.
00:20:56
Nick Britten
I'll tell you what, I'll tell you what, I thought we'd have, I thought we'd have a bit of music over there.
00:20:58
Joe Forrester
well
00:20:59
Global Sports Podcast Network
Wow.
00:21:01
Nick Britten
You know, I was expecting the.
00:21:02
Global Sports Podcast Network
Wow. Honestly.
00:21:04
Nick Britten
dooooo
00:21:05
Global Sports Podcast Network
Honestly, I think I need a cold shower, to be honest.
00:21:07
Nick Britten
ah I'd love to know, I'd love to know what filter, I'd love to know what filter you put on that. Cause that sounded actually cool.
00:21:13
Joe Forrester
i was yeah i I was sitting there, Nick, thinking about the post-production on that one as well.
00:21:13
Global Sports Podcast Network
that was done That was a razzle filter.
00:21:15
Nick Britten
That was quite expensive.
00:21:20
Global Sports Podcast Network
ha
00:21:20
Joe Forrester
yeah
00:21:21
Global Sports Podcast Network
ah I was sitting there thinking your body is unique.

Online Fan Toxicity

00:21:24
Global Sports Podcast Network
he said thank you Not as unique as mine, mate. Right.
00:21:27
Joe Forrester
ah
00:21:28
Global Sports Podcast Network
um Right, okay. Now, Nick's on his high horse, as always, Joe.
00:21:33
Joe Forrester
Mm.
00:21:34
Global Sports Podcast Network
ah he He said, I want to talk about some villains as well. I want to talk about some villains as well. So we better give him the table, give him the chair. Nick, what's whining you up, mate?
00:21:44
Nick Britten
I'll tell you what's lining me up. I'll tell you what's lining me up. It's, it's, I mean, the, the focus of my eye is Birmingham city supporters, but this, this is a much wider issue about football supporters, uh, online.
00:21:55
Nick Britten
Okay. Uh, because I'll tell you why, but because it's really got my goat.
00:21:55
Global Sports Podcast Network
Okay.
00:21:59
Nick Britten
This cause these more, it's about time we called this out, this sort of behavior. Um, so, uh, my wife is, as you know, Ken and Joe, a big Newcastle fan and she, Newcastle is what?
00:22:08
Global Sports Podcast Network
Have you treated her today, by the way? I hope you have. It's Valentine's Day, mate.
00:22:14
Nick Britten
maybe well
00:22:14
Global Sports Podcast Network
Have you done something special for her?
00:22:14
Joe Forrester
Yeah.
00:22:16
Joe Forrester
He's going out, that's her treat.
00:22:16
Nick Britten
we will yeah we won be um letting I'm letting her watch Darby tonight. that's as That's a really romantic treat.
00:22:23
Joe Forrester
oh like me
00:22:25
Global Sports Podcast Network
Well I'm yearning out to treat a woman you do Nick.
00:22:25
Nick Britten
Darby V keeping up. What more could you possibly want? ah
00:22:28
Global Sports Podcast Network
I'm surprised it's lasted quite honestly. Go on Nick.
00:22:31
Nick Britten
oh So she posted on the official Newcastle Facebook page after they beat Birmingham in the FA Cup last week. just a comment suggesting, quite wryly if you watch the game by the way, quite wryly, that Birmingham were, shall we say, over-physical in their approach.
00:22:45
Global Sports Podcast Network
Dirty is the word we're searching for here Nick.
00:22:45
Nick Britten
And they were, they were a right team of League One thugs. And it was a bruising encounter, it was a good game, it was ah it was a bit of an old-fashioned, you know, kick him kick him up in the air kind of game. And she put a very harmless comment just around around the kind of physical nature of Birmingham.
00:23:01
Nick Britten
Bergen's players and she was just met with just a sea of misogynistic comments around You know get back in the kitchen. What do you know about football leave the football to the big boys?
00:23:13
Global Sports Podcast Network
You really shouldn't say that kind of stuff to her though, Nick, should you?
00:23:14
Nick Britten
and ah ah Yeah, but they're all they're all from an account called K Davis I don't get it and and um and And and it went on and on and on and it went on for about four days, you know still mid-week She's saying I'm still getting ping my note my phone's going better and it's all the same Sort of morons that go online who probably haven't got the game haven't seen the game don't even know anything about football And you see this a lot.
00:23:28
Global Sports Podcast Network
Wow.
00:23:40
Nick Britten
and I'm gonna broaden this out because you see this a lot with with women football supporters posting stuff online and they just get underneath it it's just a sea of rubbish about about as I say go back in the kitchen what do you know about football you're a woman ah go and watch carry on watching netball you know stop talking about men's men's game and all this sort of stuff and you know what I've had enough of it I've had enough of it because it's just not on so I want to just call out these morons and these idiots and if you're one of them and you're listening just think if you have a brain cell just use it for about five seconds and think am I posting this
00:24:06
Global Sports Podcast Network
Follow me.
00:24:20
Nick Britten
You know for any particular reason or am I trying to be funny or is it banter? No, neither of those things are true. Am I posting this because I'm an idiot. Yes, that is true So therefore don't post it engage in football combination and stop being a fool.
00:24:35
Joe Forrester
Well, can I,
00:24:37
Nick Britten
Thank you
00:24:37
Global Sports Podcast Network
Well said!
00:24:38
Joe Forrester
Yeah, absolutely. and And do you know what? actually like I'm with you um because, I mean, of of course, but like i was I was chatting to a female colleague this week. We talked about football and she said, oh, the problem is, is football fans. She said, there's just so much misogyny and homophobia and racism. And but and I said, the thing is.
00:24:56
Joe Forrester
There's, there's not, but that's the idiots that are vocal online. And the problem is the social media platforms, the algorithm rewards that and it pushes them up the feed and that kind of but I was like, that's not and as a football fan, and speaking for 99.9% of football fans, that's incredibly frustrating because that's not that's not what we are or who we are.
00:25:02
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah
00:25:15
Joe Forrester
We just like the sport. And we like talking about the sport. But these idiots, like people on the outside, that's how they perceive football fans, they give everybody a bad name. And you're right. Yeah, pop, pop. Yeah.
00:25:26
Joe Forrester
pot noodle down and in your mum's basement for one second and actually think about what it is you're saying.
00:25:33
Global Sports Podcast Network
I was with you until you said pot noodle.
00:25:35
Joe Forrester
Well yeah also can I just say pot noodles are fine products and if they do want to do want to sponsor any of the shows then like I'm a pot noodle fan.
00:25:43
Global Sports Podcast Network
Though to be honest, I used to know the guy you ran the pot noodle factory. Seriously, I did. ah And he never at them. I'm just saying he never at them.
00:25:54
Joe Forrester
Can I just say actually, there's a few interesting facts about pot noodles. so Sorry, Nick, you made such a salient point.
00:26:00
Global Sports Podcast Network
I think we may be missing the point here, but go on Joe. This is interesting.
00:26:04
Joe Forrester
Two things about pot noodles. One, chicken and mushroom pot noodle, which is my personal favorite. I mean, obviously it's up to everybody what they like, but you can eat that as a vegetarian because it's actually chicken flavored bits.
00:26:13
Nick Britten
Thank
00:26:14
Joe Forrester
It's not chicken in that, so that's good. Also, I don't know if this is a Yorkshire.
00:26:17
Nick Britten
That's not a surprise, let's face it. That's no surprise that a chicken and check of mushroom contain pot noodle contains no chicken.
00:26:24
Joe Forrester
Well, it it is lovely, though. But also, don't and I don't i't yeah I I'm not even sure if they're noodles.
00:26:27
Global Sports Podcast Network
Joe, it doesn't contain mushrooms either. I just want to point that out there. It doesn't contain anything.
00:26:32
Joe Forrester
I don't know what they are. But also, um but I don't know if this is a Yorkshire thing, but my wife and her family eat pot noodle sandwiches. So they'll get bread and butter and put a pot noodle and drain the water out and put it in a sandwich.
00:26:46
Joe Forrester
So there you go.
00:26:47
Global Sports Podcast Network
Did you know this before you married her?
00:26:47
Nick Britten
yeah
00:26:49
Global Sports Podcast Network
I just went off.
00:26:49
Joe Forrester
That's when I proposed. but
00:26:53
Global Sports Podcast Network
Very good. Now, I don't eat anything that is ostensibly is dust.
00:26:54
Nick Britten
yeah we sharing were sharing we were sharing a pot noodle sandwich at the time That's amazing. I've never heard that. i don't even That's not a Yorkshire thing. That's just a Mrs. Forrester and her family thing.
00:27:05
Joe Forrester
yeah it might it might be it might be yeah yeah happy valentine's darling
00:27:08
Global Sports Podcast Network
I think so. She's got to be really, really pleased with you that you told the world about that on Valentine's Day. up ah Right. OK, here at Global Sports Podcast Network, we spent a lot of time selecting our delivery platform.
00:27:23
Global Sports Podcast Network

00:28:00
Global Sports Podcast Network
it will be a very good decision on your part. We're all happy with Encaster, aren't we round here?
00:28:04

00:28:06
Nick Britten
Very much so, yeah, it's really good.
00:28:08
Global Sports Podcast Network
Okay, so we've got to get to these predictions for the rest of the week because God, we

Premier League Match Predictions

00:28:14
Global Sports Podcast Network
can natter. We can natter, can't we? 28 minutes gone already. Okay, so here we go.
00:28:19
Global Sports Podcast Network
I'm going to whistle down and I want you to know what you think will happen. Brighton v. Chelsea, Nick.
00:28:26
Nick Britten
Draw.
00:28:28
Global Sports Podcast Network
Joe.
00:28:29
Nick Britten
Two out of form sides, score draw.
00:28:33
Joe Forrester
Yeah, both very out of form. Chelsea have really fallen off, haven't they? But home win.
00:28:38
Global Sports Podcast Network
I've gone for a home win as well. Leicester v Arsenal, Nick.
00:28:42
Nick Britten
Um, despite saying the time of race is over, uh, anybody who plays Leicester is pretty much guaranteed three points and Arsenal will be too strong for him. So away win.
00:28:51
Global Sports Podcast Network
Joe.
00:28:52
Joe Forrester
Away win.
00:28:54
Global Sports Podcast Network
Great, I've gone the same. Villarreal against Ipswich. Is it the formality that it suggests?
00:28:59
Nick Britten
Yep. Uh, Yes, it will be.
00:29:02
Joe Forrester
Yeah.
00:29:02
Nick Britten
Yeah. I think so. Yeah. vi are Really, really good at home. It's which just seemed to be tailing off now. They just don't seem to be. a They just don't. Earlier in the season, they were really in games.
00:29:13
Nick Britten
They're picking up the odd result here or there, but I think people who watch them on a regular basis. I've got a few friends who watch them on a regular basis say that they just seem to have just not not given up. They just don't seem to have enough in them. um And certainly going to Villa is very hard.
00:29:25
Nick Britten
So home win.
00:29:26
Global Sports Podcast Network
jeff
00:29:27
Joe Forrester
I win.
00:29:29
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, I think that's fair enough. Now, obviously, Forest, they fur they've they've they've really fallen off in terms of, ah well, this is what I predicted would happen two weeks ago. Of course, they're going slam seven in, don't they, the next game? So I don't even know why I'm playing this game, but Fulham v. Forest, what do you reckon Nick?
00:29:51
Nick Britten
um Hard ones call, both very good sides. ah Home advantage will help for them, so I'm going for a draw.
00:29:59
Global Sports Podcast Network
OK, and Joe.
00:30:00
Joe Forrester
Yeah, I'm also going for a draw. Full of them are actually in pretty rotten form at the moment. A few draws, losses as well. And as I said, Forrest is still ticking along very nicely in third. But yeah, a draw.
00:30:10
Global Sports Podcast Network
I'm going for home advantage being the key here. I fancy full him at home always, so home win for me. Man City against Newcastle big game. Nick.
00:30:21
Nick Britten
Yeah, I'm going for an away win here. I think Man City are in all manner of trouble. Their midweek collapse in the last few minutes against Real Madrid is not going to do them any favours. Confidence is going to be low. Newcastle are playing well where confidence is high. I'm going for an away win.
00:30:37
Global Sports Podcast Network
That's a big one, Joe.
00:30:39
Joe Forrester
Yeah, I think this game is bigger than the second leg against Madrid, because City aren't good enough to win the Champions League, are they? But they might not finish in the top four the way they're going at the moment, and Newcastle at the better side. Yeah, I'd go for an away win.
00:30:51
Global Sports Podcast Network
I'm going for a home win. Foden with two goals. Southampton against Bournemouth. South Coast Derby.
00:30:59
Nick Britten
and again
00:31:00
Joe Forrester
Yep.
00:31:01
Nick Britten
Yeah, a South Coast Derby, but but you know, Samson are just having a nightmare of a season Bournemouth are playing really well But I back Bournemouth to win most of the games that they're playing within in a moment and and I'll definitely back them to win this one So in a way win
00:31:09
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:31:12
Joe Forrester
Yeah.
00:31:16
Global Sports Podcast Network
Same for me, Joe.
00:31:18
Joe Forrester
Yeah, why when?
00:31:19
Global Sports Podcast Network
Okay, West Ham, Renford, Nick.
00:31:23
Nick Britten
um Yeah, difficult one for this one. I've gone for a home win, actually, just because Brentford's away form isn't great. I think West Ham are making progress. I know Joe alluded to this earlier on. They've not made them had a massive bounce, but they are making progress. And I think Grand Potter is starting to make a difference. So I fancy them in this one, a home win.
00:31:41
Global Sports Podcast Network
Same for me, Joe.
00:31:43
Joe Forrester
a draw for me.
00:31:44
Global Sports Podcast Network
OK, yeah, that's very, very possible. Palace Everton, resurgent Everton. So how does this look to you, Nick?
00:31:52
Nick Britten
Well, I promised didn't I on last week's pod to stop being so negative about Everton because they are actually starting to do well under David Moyes. They've had a real, they have had a proper manager bounce. And as you say, they are resurgent and Palace's home form has really let them down this season. It's only their waveform that's really kept them afloat and out of relegation trouble. So I'm going for a draw in this one.
00:32:13
Global Sports Podcast Network
Okay, same for me, Joe.
00:32:15
Joe Forrester
yeah I've got a lot of time for the Moisiah. I think an away win.
00:32:19
Global Sports Podcast Network
Wow, that'll be a great result for them.
00:32:20
Nick Britten
Yeah, it's not not bad shout out Joe, it's not a bad shout out at all.
00:32:23
Global Sports Podcast Network
He's done a remarkable job already.
00:32:25
Joe Forrester
Yeah.
00:32:27
Global Sports Podcast Network
Liverpool against Wolves, formality?
00:32:31
Nick Britten
ah Yes, home win.
00:32:31
Global Sports Podcast Network
Nick?
00:32:32
Nick Britten
Yeah, home win formality.
00:32:34
Global Sports Podcast Network
Joe?
00:32:35
Joe Forrester
Yeah. ah Annihilation home win.
00:32:39
Global Sports Podcast Network
and the big one the big one on sunday spurs the manchester united we all know what we're going to say on this one so uh uh i went for a home win nick joe yeah they've got 14th place right in their sights
00:32:50
Nick Britten
Yeah, I might have changed my mind based on everything that Joe said, but I haven't, so home win.
00:32:56
Joe Forrester
ah Yeah, the the start of Spurs is unlikely resurgence and and late title challenge with a big home win.
00:33:06
Joe Forrester
Oh, we can dream.
00:33:10
Global Sports Podcast Network
And finally Villa against Liverpool, which is on the Wednesday, Wednesday game. Liverpool got two games again this week. ah Villa, the Liverpool I've Got On Away win. Nick.
00:33:21
Nick Britten
Yeah, I'll stick to what I said earlier on. um I think yeah ah think I've got to go for a draw here.
00:33:26
Global Sports Podcast Network
OK, and Joe.
00:33:28
Joe Forrester
a home win under the lights Villa Park. just
00:33:33
Nick Britten
Good job Jesse's not here.
00:33:33
Global Sports Podcast Network
Handed it to Arsenal.
00:33:35
Nick Britten
Good job Jesse's not here, he'd have you for that.
00:33:37
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, he would, he would.
00:33:38
Nick Britten
He gets very upset when we predict against Liverpool.
00:33:41
Global Sports Podcast Network
Brilliant. Well, thank you, everybody.

Episode Closure and Future Projects

00:33:43
Global Sports Podcast Network
Thank you, Nick. Thank you, Joe. That has been That Saturday Feeling in version 10. We're managing to get it down to around 33, 34 minutes now, which is actually it's a triumph, a triumph of broadcasting ah professionalism.
00:33:58
Nick Britten
It's better than the one hour 21 we did the other week.
00:34:02
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, that was a mistake, wasn't it, really? Well, I don't know what went on there. Time just stood still, didn't it?
00:34:06
Joe Forrester
I'm still tired.
00:34:08
Global Sports Podcast Network
ah From listening to it.
00:34:09
Joe Forrester
yeah
00:34:10
