00:00:10
Global Sports Podcast Network

00:00:18
Global Sports Podcast Network
I hope you're all looking forward to Christmas. I'm your host, Ken Davis. We've got Nick Britton, of course, in the building as well. How you doing, Nick?
00:00:28
Nick Britten
Hi Ken, very good to see you, very good to see you, good to be back and looking forward to the weekend's games.
00:00:34
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, there's lots of talk through.
Match Review: Derby vs Portsmouth
00:00:36
Global Sports Podcast Network
We better get on with it. Are you feeling Christmassy there before we get into that? And by the way, I think when we recorded this episode last Friday, you and Darby, your team were looking forward to a match which they managed to ah very successfully negotiate.
00:00:52
Nick Britten
Well, it's more than that. We ran right. Three goals for the first half an hour at home to Portsmouth. Yeah, and we sat there we saw here in the studio last Friday i sort of wondering whether it would be a good week for Derby or a poor one. And it kind of all hinged on the home game against Portsmouth last Friday.
Scheduling and Humor in Football
00:01:09
Nick Britten
And they were brilliant for the first half hour, they took pours for the part, three goals in the first half hour of the game, ended up winning 4-0, very very comfortable night, and suddenly yeah yeah five points from three games, looks good, so yes, got a game again tonight, another Friday night game tonight, a away at Luta, we're a bit like a Premier League team kit, because we never play on a Saturday at three o'clock anymore, so it's getting ourselves ready.
00:01:25
Global Sports Podcast Network
I know.
00:01:32
Global Sports Podcast Network
That's the only similarity though, to be honest.
00:01:34
Nick Britten
just make that We're just getting our ourselves ready. This is all part of the prayer. You know what it's like. So I'm going to Very much looking forward to that.
00:01:43
Global Sports Podcast Network
Very, very
Carabao Cup Quarterfinals Highlights
00:01:44
Global Sports Podcast Network
good. Right, so let's kick off then and let's kick off with just I guess some of the standout things that we saw in the course of the week and then we'll get on to some of the issues and there's are plenty of issues to talk about this week.
00:01:56
Global Sports Podcast Network
So what stood out for you results wise, action wise, during the course of the last round of games?
00:02:05
Nick Britten
Well, it's quite unusual to see this, but it was a really, really good quarterfinal round for the Carabao Cup, you know, the League Cup, as I like to call it.
00:02:15
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:02:16
Nick Britten
There were just some great games. Newcastle were brilliant against Brentford. Brentford's away form really is poor. they're Very funny team, Brentford. Very funny team.
00:02:25
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:02:26
Nick Britten
So good at home, but so poor away. Newcastle, you know, we talked about them last week at a bit of a crossroads. Since then, they dispatched Leicester 4-0 very comfortably on the Saturday.
00:02:36
Nick Britten
Another four goals against Brookford during the the week. they look They look much more like it. So that was a very good
Tottenham vs Manchester United Analysis
00:02:43
Nick Britten
game. Last night particularly was an absolute thriller.
00:02:47
Global Sports Podcast Network
Hmm.
00:02:47
Nick Britten
Tottenham against Manchester United, a real typical Tottenham performance. Threw it up and always threw it away. And even more interesting, probably the highlight of the week was the post-accomplished press conference or interview with Sky as it was last night where where he was, after those immortal words, oh, are you not entertained?
00:03:08
Nick Britten
Boy, where were you entertained?
00:03:08
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, i've got I've got, I think I should be playing this at the moment.
00:03:10
Nick Britten
I've lost him.
00:03:11
Global Sports Podcast Network
This is the, what's his name, Maximus. the Yeah, I'll have that playing in the background as we talk about hands.
00:03:17
Nick Britten
Yeah, for gladiator. um
00:03:22
Global Sports Podcast Network
So it's, ah I mean, of course they bouncing off the five nil away victory at Southampton. It was the death knell for Russell Martin last weekend as well.
00:03:32
Nick Britten
Yeah, so two managers, not before time, really. I think this is this is an interesting one because in Russell Martin, it just doesn't learn.
00:03:43
Nick Britten
It just wasn't happening. It just looked increasingly full on. What, five five points they've got?
00:03:49
Global Sports Podcast Network
yeah
00:03:49
Nick Britten
It's just really, really poor.
00:03:51
Global Sports Podcast Network
It's all over, isn't it?
00:03:51
Nick Britten
I'm surprised
Managerial Changes Discussion
00:03:52
Nick Britten
it's taken this long, if I'm honest with you. And of course, Gary O'Neal, we've been talking about for weeks. He was only ever a matter of time. And Another defeat, another miserable war kind of performance from walls. and Yeah, it's it's it wasn't any surprise that either of those two lost their jobs. But two on the same, two in a matter of a couple of days, yeah. No surprise.
Christmas Football Period Anticipation
00:04:12
Global Sports Podcast Network
no surprise there and they've both been replaced by the way hot news hot news from Southampton this morning by the way which will we'll come to about those replacements and whether those replacements are going to work or not a couple of other things just to touch on from last weekend Fulham the Fulham dream continues the 2-2 away at at Liverpool thought that was a great performance Ipswich is 2-1
00:04:37
Global Sports Podcast Network
away at Wolves never saw that coming that obviously was Gary O'Neill done anddued it and and Forrest keep grinding these wins out 2-1 again against Villa
00:04:48
Nick Britten
Yeah. Yeah, they turned it around against Villa. It wasn't a great game. I think you know we sat here last week and predicted they could cancel each other out. yeah wasn't It was a little bit like that.
00:05:00
Nick Britten
But they did really well. They just keep going. They keep going. They keep going. They keep going. And I work with Boston quite a lot. And there are Forest fans over there that I speak to and have to speak to on a regular basis.
00:05:09
Global Sports Podcast Network
Oh, no.
00:05:11
Nick Britten
And they are absolutely cock-a-hoop.
00:05:14
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:05:14
Nick Britten
They are cock-a-hoop. But interestingly, I suppose, like all football fans, they are sort of having this well, it won't finish like this, willt it will it? We'll probably just end up 10th or 12th. But who's to say? Who's to say they can't keep going? Because they are grinding atoms, they are playing well. ah They've got, a bit like Chelsea we're going to talk about in a bit, they've just got all their plays.
00:05:35
Nick Britten
on form, you know, everybody seems to be playing well and on form and fair play, you know, fair play to them. They're doing really, really well. So that was absolutely a standout. Yeah. If Swish's results are wolves, it was always going to be the death of the alpha Gary on the ole.
00:05:49
Nick Britten
Let's face it.
00:05:49
Global Sports Podcast Network
yeah
00:05:50
Nick Britten
If wolves had to won that game, it was always going to be and ah very much so, so improved.
00:05:54
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:05:56
Nick Britten
So yeah, lots of good games last week, lots of good games to come this week. And of course, we're going to enter the very, very busy Christmas period. Always exciting.
00:06:04
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, I was Santa Claus yesterday by the way.
00:06:06
Global Sports Podcast Network
nick Did I mention that to you? I actually spent an afternoon in a school as Santa Claus.
00:06:12
Nick Britten
Yeah, I mean, look there's
Santa Anecdote and Banter
00:06:14
Nick Britten
lots of ways I could take that conversation, but let's let's let's keep it but let's keep it clean, please. Why were you dressing off ah that's ah why are you dressing up as Santa Claus in the school on the basis that you haven't got any kids who are school age?
00:06:21
Global Sports Podcast Network
It's just a room in it. It's just a room in it. It can't prove anything.
00:06:31
Nick Britten
And I don't know what you're doing, sort of hanging around in schools.
00:06:35
Global Sports Podcast Network
i've done I've done it for three years. I am i am the Santa of choice at certain schools. i'll I'll have you know. Anyway, let's move on to another happy jolly.
00:06:44
Nick Britten
Well, we move on to hangover.
00:06:48
Global Sports Podcast Network
Okay.
00:06:48
Nick Britten
What's this year's hot topic? What are the kids want for Christmas?
00:06:52
Global Sports Podcast Network
ah ah Just the normal stuff really, you know, game a few knew games, I mean they're the young, you know, that they're the four or five, you know, they did they just want any, they're bald, you know, so just lapping paper, you know, that they just want to, you know, stuff. I don't know, I was not that interested.
00:07:11
Global Sports Podcast Network
ah Anyway, I'm probably not the best at events.
00:07:11
Nick Britten
you can convince all they want to
00:07:13
Global Sports Podcast Network
So anyway, talking about another chubby, happy, jolly person, Anz Prostikoglou.
00:07:14
Nick Britten
Do you think you must have ordered them to direct them?
00:07:21
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, we also, I'm gonna play this thing again, where we all saw him ah in his in his Sky interview afterwards, just saying, you know what, were you not entertained?
00:07:30
Global Sports Podcast Network
What's the
Entertainment vs Results in Football
00:07:31
Global Sports Podcast Network
matter with you? ah What a character, colorful, Premier League needs people like Anz, doesn't it?
00:07:38
Nick Britten
it does And it's it's when it works, it is absolutely brilliant. You know, absolutely when it works and it kind of works, the game's back to you. Are you not entertained? Of course we're entertained. Of course we are. It was a brilliant kind of game, but for all the wrong reasons in many ways, if you're a Tottenham supporter, because at 3-0, you just go, well, okay, game's done. I have, I should do fair. I have sympathy with him here because he did not go out and say, oh, you know what, we know what, we need 3-0. Hey, hey, Fraser Forster. Yeah. Yeah.
00:08:11
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:08:11
Nick Britten
make a complete hash of two attempted clearances and give Man United two goals. will because this is Look, it's becoming a bit boring this game. He's not going to do that, is he? It's not his fault that a goalkeeper just makes those two really, really poor errors as suddenly matches should not have back of the game.
00:08:20
Global Sports Podcast Network
No.
00:08:27
Nick Britten
So I have got a bit of sympathy with him.
00:08:29
Global Sports Podcast Network
As the music builds, the Maximus music builds, we'll cut that off just so we can continue to hear you, Nate.
00:08:29
Nick Britten
I thought Spurs were terrific. you
00:08:34
Global Sports Podcast Network
But it's, yeah, it's, ah It's such a fine balance, isn't it, between entertainment and results? It always has been. ah I mean, personally, I'd rather see a 4-3 than you know team grinding at a 1-0, but 4-3s can end up 4-4s and you look a bit stupid.
00:08:49
Nick Britten
which was his point
00:08:53
Nick Britten
yess Yeah, and that was his point. He'd rather hit'd rather do that, and I think we'd rather watch it. And look, and why not? I like it. I like them i like the attitude. I like that style of football. I'd much rather see teams go out, give it a go, and try and win games, even if that means sometimes.
00:09:12
Nick Britten
You don't. And we've seen it cricket, with basketball, we've seen it in other sports. i yeah why why Why wouldn't we? Why wouldn't we want to go and watch that type of football? I think the ethos of it all is right.
00:09:23
Nick Britten
Football should be entertainment. Football should be fun. And um'm I'm all for it. I'm all for it. Good old age. That's what I say.
00:09:30
Global Sports Podcast Network
but Good old answer. And if anybody wants to see why entertainment is a such a good idea of football, tune into Luton V D'Arby tonight. See how you feel about it after that.

Impact of VAR in Football
00:10:21
Global Sports Podcast Network
I'll tell you what else stood out from that game.
00:10:25
Global Sports Podcast Network
which was the absence of VAR. Now, first question for you, Nick, as a qualified referee, I should point out, what does VAR stand for?
00:10:40
Nick Britten
but Video Assistant Referee.
00:10:41
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yes, it ticks the box straight away, but you know, surprise, how many people don't know that?
00:10:45
Nick Britten
why why why wouldn it Why wouldn't I know that? As a qualified referee, you don't have to be a qualified referee to know that.
00:10:48
Global Sports Podcast Network
Well, mate, there's a lot of things I'd expect you to know.
00:10:51
Nick Britten
You just need to know anything about football to know that that's what it stands for.
00:10:55
Global Sports Podcast Network
there's a lot of things I expect you to know that just seems to have passed you by. But great, I'm glad that one hasn't.
00:11:00
Nick Britten
It's really it.
00:11:01
Global Sports Podcast Network
Anyway, but I'll tell you what, I bet there are a few people listening to just thinking, whoa, I'll make a note of that. um Now, did you did you enjoy the, sorry?
00:11:13
Nick Britten
I said it really won't be, but anyway, go on.
00:11:14
Global Sports Podcast Network
No, they that probably won't be. Did you enjoy the ah the absence of VAR or did you regret the absence of VAR?
00:11:24
Nick Britten
I think it's something I VAR generally, which is it's a really good idea in certain circumstances, but as we all know, it's been very badly applied over the last few years, that it hasn't quite worked out where it's good and where it's not.
00:11:40
Nick Britten
I think VAR is really useful for any kind of decision that is non-subjective. And offside is a great example of this. Offside is not subjective. You're either offside or you're not. It's not a referee's call to decide, yeah like a handball or a foul. And I think VAR is really useful on that. Equally, I think VAR has proved to be a real pain in the backside.
00:12:05
Nick Britten
were trying to referee games on behalf of referees on the pitch. So, you know, you kind of come and go with it a little bit. It was really interesting to see though the games over over the carabi cup goes to the week were if vi been used to those games matches could have had a very different outcome because at 1-1 between the Palace and Arsenal, Gabriel Jesus is offside.
00:12:15
Global Sports Podcast Network
Thank you.
00:12:31
Nick Britten
yeah you yeah see that tos too fair I don't know why the referee didn't flag that. He's a good half-yard offside. And he's running through to score the goal and put them 2-1 up. Now, that goal shouldn't have been chalked off. If they are a bit involved, it would have been chalked off. And it might not have affected the outcome, but, you know, Arsenal at that stage of the game aren't ahead. Also, in the the chaos of last night, ah we saw a yeah foul, potential foul on the goalkeeper.
00:12:56
Nick Britten
and And that, again, was a i really, really kind of crucial point of the game. You know, top of a 3-2 up, they got a corner, salt swings it in. If it goes straight into the net, Burghwau, he fouls Bayender, the much-shy-like goalkeeper, because he puts his arm over the goalkeeper's left hand, so the goalkeeper can't raise his left hand to punch the ball.
00:13:20
Nick Britten
Now he might have missed it anyway, we don't know that, but the reality is it was probably foul. And it's a sort of foul that VAR would definitely have ruled out. So there's two games there which are critical moments, critical goals are scored, which are allowed in referee games without VAR, but would not have been allowed if VAR had been there.
00:13:28
Global Sports Podcast Network
Thank you.
00:13:38
Nick Britten
And who knows whether it would have affected the outcome ah or not. but All that said, what a joy to see games where goals are scored, the teams celebrate it right and we kick off again.
00:13:50
Nick Britten
all the space for that.
00:13:51
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:13:52
Nick Britten
So I certainly don't miss, and I don't think anybody does do it, let's face it, certainly don't miss the delays and the faffing around and it takes four minutes to make a decision and all of that. There was a real feel of old school, a bit about football, particularly, particularly the Jessica's goal, because like all the Palace fans are going away about, that sort of side, but like we used to have to do, you've just got to suck it up and get on with it.
00:14:15
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, you know, it's very rare that me and you are on the same page on something, but we are on the same page on this pre yeah-exactly. So I won't simply repeat word for word what you said, but you're right. Where it's a question of what I call metrology, measurement, where it's a binary decision, you're offside, the ball's out of play, ah the ball's over the line for a goal, mistaken identity, those kinds of things.
00:14:41
Global Sports Podcast Network
it's a It's an absolute win. And there's no question the number of correct decisions in the Premier League has improved with the implementation of VAR. It's quite significant. I think it's gone from about mid-80s to mid-90s. Significant measurement. Having said that, it's the it's the yeah Premier League who are measuring that. But I'm sure that is the case.
00:15:05
Global Sports Podcast Network
You're right, though, for these judgmental decisions, the second guessing of the decision in real time by the referee. That's one where all the delays come from, because all the other boundary decisions are virtually automatic.
00:15:20
Global Sports Podcast Network
if The judgmental decisions are, come and have a look at the screen, have a second guess again. If you're reffing this for a second time, what would you do? That's where VAR just fails. My view, for what it's worth, it's not, I should say, the opinion of the Global Sports Caucus Network, Ken Davis's view is, you is retain it for the binary decisions, kick it out for the second guess in the referees. Oh, and you know I think the game would be better for it. Are you generally in agreement with that, Nick?
00:15:51
Nick Britten
Yeah, very much so. and and ah You say it's not the GSP of you. Well, you say it and I say it before we own the company. So I guess it is the GSP of you.
00:16:00
Global Sports Podcast Network
it's You've heard it here first, folks.
00:16:02
Global Sports Podcast Network
It's the official GSPN view. If the Premier League want to give us a ring this afternoon, I'm out.
00:16:07
Global Sports Podcast Network
So you can't.
00:16:09
Global Sports Podcast Network
um
00:16:09
Nick Britten
Yeah, I'll send them round your house. But you're right, the interesting thing about that came very briefly. The interesting thing about that is that you say old referees are called over to the screen to have another look at it, and if you're doing it together, they're not there, aren't they?
00:16:22
Nick Britten
They're not, because never, ever does a referee go over to the screen to turn around and go, no, no, I was right the first time around for my original decision.
00:16:28
Global Sports Podcast Network
ah you're right
00:16:30
Nick Britten
It never, ever happens. They're told, by the way, you've made an error, go and have a look at it. And all the time they look at it, they're getting these guys in their ears saying, this is why this is the foul, this is why this is the foul, or what have you, and they just never, ever, ever stick with their original decision. So the game is being refereed remotely, and that can't be right.
00:16:50
Global Sports Podcast Network
Correct. Well said, Nick. Britain. um Here at the Global Sports Podcast Network, we spend a lot of time selecting our delivery platform. Any business involved in what the kind of thing we do would do that.
00:17:03
Global Sports Podcast Network
When we went through that process, Zentester came out as the clear winner. 4K video recording from your phone, AI editing that automatically removes all those ones on ours.
00:17:13
Global Sports Podcast Network
That's why you're so professional or not really. It's super easy to start a podcast that sounds great and is delivered efficiently. So, if you're ready to tell your story, Nick, are you ready to tell your story?
00:17:25
Nick Britten
I've always read out, I've always read so much story
00:17:28
Global Sports Podcast Network
Great. Well, what you need to do then, Nick, is check out the link in the show description to learn more about Zencaster. But you've done that already because we're using it. So,
00:17:40
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, exactly. So we've dealt with Ange, great character, really colorful, we love the entertainment, but I imagine that's great when things are going well, ah that soon pales into unhappiness, when they're not.
00:17:54
Global Sports Podcast Network
Talking about unhappiness,
00:17:54
Nick Britten
yeah it's might work hard way it might This might work, This might this this little section might work better if if Joe, our producer, and we said to him send us a little clip of Gladiator music so we could play it in the background, and he sent us an entire eight minutes
00:18:07
Global Sports Podcast Network
I've been playing it in the background. That's what's been playing in the background, Nicky. You just obviously can't hear it.
00:18:11
Nick Britten
um I can't hear it. I can't hear it. I can't hear that because he said it's the whole eight minutes.
00:18:14
Global Sports Podcast Network
ah
00:18:15
Nick Britten
so I thought that's that. We don't want eight minutes. We want about 30 seconds to intro this piece.
00:18:19
Global Sports Podcast Network
No, we've been we've been playing it a little bit all the way through.
00:18:22
Nick Britten
Oh, that's good.
00:18:23
Global Sports Podcast Network
But so for some reason, your head you've got them da those dodgy headphones from £2.99 that get really warm when you sit by a radiator.
00:18:30
Nick Britten
and what fix
00:18:32
Global Sports Podcast Network
um
00:18:34
Nick Britten
So everything gets all reset by a radiator with the radiator on.
00:18:39
Global Sports Podcast Network
Right, OK, we're talking about unhappiness.
Marcus Rashford's Career Exploration
00:18:41
Global Sports Podcast Network
ah Marcus Rashford, what has gone wrong? What's his value?
00:18:47
Global Sports Podcast Network
Where does he go? does it Is it really no hard feelings? ah You know, what's the... 2023, the world was at his feet and now what he's at the feet of the world.
00:18:58
Global Sports Podcast Network
So what's going on?
00:19:01
Nick Britten
Yeah, it's a really interesting one, this isn't it? Because this is this isn't yeah this is not you, with Marcus Rashford. Every time Eddie Magic comes through the door, he kind of ups his game, falls well, and then there's always always a period where it doesn't happen or there's a fallout or there's disciplinary or he's not scoring and it's just on constant chat. I do feel a bit, I feel sorry for Mark Strashwick, if I'm brutally honest with you, because he seems to be constantly in the spotlight far more than anybody else. He seems to be held to far higher account. he he's all yeah he's done He's done a good job for Manchester United. He's hit, what, 20 goals or more in the last three seasons, ah you know, only once the last three, but nonetheless, it's a good scoring record.
00:19:42
Nick Britten
He's been at Manchester United, boy and man, and he's a right up there. He's 12th at all-time Manchester United goal scorer's record. He's scored 138 goals. He's only 7th behind the 10th place, so he's he's very close to Ronaldo and a Manchester United player he played in the 60s called David Heard.
00:20:04
Nick Britten
And he's only 12 behind Rudin Littleroy.
00:20:05
Global Sports Podcast Network
Remember, hey.
00:20:06
Nick Britten
So if he stays for another season, he could easily end up like the ninth all-time Manchester United goalscorer. And yet there just seems to be so much kind of criticism of him all the time.
00:20:17
Nick Britten
He can't seem to do anything right. I do, honestly, I feel for a little bit. But maybe the answer to all of that is is is a move and a fresh start somewhere else.
00:20:27
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, I think there's going to be some impediments to that.
00:20:29
Global Sports Podcast Network
I mean, I've spoke to a few United fans, they they're not massive massively keen on him. ah It's interesting because you're right, you know, 2022, 23, 30 goals.
00:20:40
Global Sports Podcast Network
I mean, he's carrying that team. And remember, I think everyone's got to remember that, you know, he was, he's played for United
00:20:48
Global Sports Podcast Network
in United's really difficult period. And it's only fair to say, you know, he really has played in a really tough period for Manchester, you know, these last six or seven years have been tortuous for United.
00:20:56
Nick Britten
it's um talk well stop And
00:21:01
Global Sports Podcast Network
It's not been, there's been all kinds of managerial changes, all kinds of insecurities, very poor performance by United standards. And Rashford's been pretty much an ever present.
00:21:14
Global Sports Podcast Network
And it's very hard. and You compare him to someone like Salah, and he's not Salah, but but as ah as a comparison, you know, Salah's played in a team which has been achieving and he's been surrounded by other players who have been achieving.
00:21:26
Global Sports Podcast Network
It's just a little bit easier to shine in that situation than it might have been for any any player at Manchester United.
00:21:32
Global Sports Podcast Network
I think it's important before we get into maybe some criticisms of Rashford, just to have that caveat on record record to say it hasn't been easy for the lad.
00:21:42
Nick Britten
No, how has it been for that? As I say, I like have sympathy with him. I do. I think ah think he gently gets judged against fellow Manchester United players a little bit more harsh and harshly.
00:21:55
Nick Britten
ah Perhaps because he's been there, you know, all his career, perhaps because he's a Manchester United supporter and a biggest, what, seven years old in the academy. Maybe that. Equally, yeah you know, you have to look at his social life, you have to look, he's been in trouble, hasn't he? He's been in trouble with the club fairly recently on a couple of occasions. There was an occasion earlier on in the year where he did turn up for What was it? It did turn out for the training system to be ahead of the Newport County FA Cup game, because it'd been out the night before. A similar situation happened last season, and where after Man United had been beaten by their city in the dark, it was out nightclub. It's stuff like that. It's stuff like that that supporters don't like. It's stuff like that, which kind of does you very few favours. Which, you know, players are human beings. like they They need a social life. They deserve a social life. There's no reason why they shouldn't have one. it's just
00:22:50
Nick Britten
in and around games and if it's affecting your performance and if you but get away with it if you turn out on a pitch and play a blinder but if you don't yeah if you turn out that sticker and it turns out you've been out the night before or even the night before that it just doesn't reflect well does it?
00:23:04
Global Sports Podcast Network
No, it doesn't. And yeah the other thing to think is, obviously, he got involved with some political stuff, which is fine, which is perfectly laudable.
00:23:11
Global Sports Podcast Network
He does some amazing things. But it just it just feeds the ease-distracted thing. And if you're not playing at the top of your game and you're getting involved with other things and making a name for yourself yourself in ah in a wider context than purely football, you do leave yourself a bit wide open so that, well, he's not even thinking about football anymore.
00:23:33
Global Sports Podcast Network
But where does he go? He's on £325,000. £325,000 a week. That's more than unique.
00:23:44
Nick Britten
So not all of you care though.
00:23:44
Global Sports Podcast Network
He's on a... It's not as much as me, no, but he's ah but it's it's getting up there.
00:23:49
Global Sports Podcast Network
He's on a contract till 2028.
00:23:54
Global Sports Podcast Network
United want $14 million for him. I mean, is there anybody gonna be knocking on their door, saying, oh, yeah, please.
00:23:59
Nick Britten
Well, 40 million yeah but forty minutes to unreasonable ashley for formula is feels to me like a club that's quite happy to do a deal.
00:24:04
Global Sports Podcast Network
No, I think that's fair.
00:24:10
Nick Britten
you know it's not That doesn't feel to me like a club that goes, okay, let's put a ridiculous price tag on him so so we price him really out of the market.
00:24:10
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:24:18
Nick Britten
The wages are a massive issue though, aren't they? Who who is going to pay 325K a week? Well, the only answer to that is the Saudi Pro League because they're the only ones with pockets deep enough.
00:24:26
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:24:27
Nick Britten
well That's quite possibly where where he'll end up. You're looking at the other big European teams. No, maybe. Maybe they'll take a pundit in. You look at other Premier League teams.
00:24:38
Nick Britten
but you know Newcastle, perhaps, team like that, but they're not going to pay that sort of money.
00:24:40
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, you know.
00:24:42
Nick Britten
They're not going to pay that, they've never got that sort of money for wages. So the wages are going to be the the huge stumbling block here. He had that cryptic comment le earlier on talking about, earlier in the week, talking about a new start and all that.
00:24:56
Nick Britten
but But, you know, there might be a new start Manchester United film, I don't know, it doesn't look like it because the new manager's come in and looking him over two or three games and dropped him, he's peed out the score for the last two games. So, it does seem like a move as inevitable. I can't, unless he takes a massive cut, it is wages. And these are reported wages, you know, we don't know exactly how much he's got, we should say this, this is what would take him from media, I suppose. But, if he's on that amount of money,
00:25:25
Nick Britten
And he wants to stay on that kind of money, I'm afraid Saudi Arabia is where he's headed.
00:25:31
Global Sports Podcast Network
which is not much of a, well, great league concern, right, I suppose, but yeah there's only one way from there, I think, and that's retirement.
00:25:40
Global Sports Podcast Network
But it's, but yeah, Barto aren't in a position to pay that kind of money. Real Madrid might be able to, but you know, is Rashford really going to improve that team?
00:25:49
Global Sports Podcast Network
No, he's not. ah Paris Saint-Germain have been talked about. I can't see that either. So I think you're right. I think if he does move, it's Saudi, but of course Amarym is saying, hey if you want a new challenge, this is a new challenge.
00:26:02
Global Sports Podcast Network
Get your act together and be a big part of this, whether that's going to happen we should see.
00:26:03
Nick Britten
Well, that's what I I sort of thought there was a little bit of PR to be honest honest with you. I'm not sure he means it. He's dropped it for the last two scores. I'm not sure he means it. If you take those words as a challenge to stay at the club, then all the other stuff that's coming out of the club is is sort of direct.
00:26:24
Nick Britten
Contradiction to that. I suppose if you talk about owners with massively deep pockets, Ken, they could always end up at Rexham with you.
00:26:29
Global Sports Podcast Network
We wouldn't have him. He's not like not going to get a game in front of Mullen, is he?
00:26:32
Global Sports Podcast Network
Let's be honest. Right. ah So what we have seen in the course of last week is the sack race never ends.
Managerial Changes at Wolves and Southampton
00:26:43
Global Sports Podcast Network
And just when we were bemoaning the facts at the start of last week,
00:26:47
Global Sports Podcast Network
that yeah what does it take for someone to get the P-45? There's been two P-45s issued in the course of this week. So any thoughts on ah Gary O'Neill and Russell Martin's departures from Wolves and Southampton respectively?
00:27:03
Nick Britten
Only that, it was always coming. It was always coming. Gary O'Neill's been walking a tightrope for several weeks and it defeats the West Ham, defeats the Ipswich, that Ipswich game.
00:27:15
Nick Britten
We thought the West Ham game, didn't we? every Everybody thought that. Everybody thought, right, whoever loses is going to lose the job here.
00:27:18
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:27:21
Nick Britten
And i don't I don't really like talking about this too much because I don't like talking about people losing their jobs. It's not a nice thing. yes But it is what it is in the world of Premier League football and football generally. So that was no surprise. They appointed Victor Pereira as their new manager, which you know he's he's got ah he's got ah a decent pedigree elsewhere. He's won a couple of Premier League titles with Porto. He won the Greek Super League with Olympia Arcos.
00:27:47
Nick Britten
Currently, well, he was, until a couple of days ago, managing in the Saudi Pro League as well, where he got off to a decent start. So he's there, whether, you know, like all these managers who come into these kind of jobs, and you're pitched into a relegation battle, whether or not there is enough in him to deal with that, because it's going to be very, very different cat and a fish to deal with Porto at the top of top of your their league, and and likewise Olympiacus.
00:28:12
Nick Britten
So it'll be an interesting one, but he is a coach with good pedigree, and it seems like a sensible move on paper. Southampton, though, feels like a bit of a mess, though, doesn't it? It feels like a bit of a mess. I don't know how Russell Martin sort of stayed as long as he could. Not because, again, I don't like to sort of call managers out and forget the sack, but Southampton have started dreadfully, but it wasn't the fact they started dreadfully, it was the fact that they consistently and almost deliberately put themselves at risk with this with this constant kind of trying to play out for the back and defensive carnage.
00:28:49
Nick Britten
And, you know, five points from 16 games is just not good enough for the Premier League. They're nine points away from Leicester, 10 points away from Everton. Those teams, you know, that bottom five seems to be the ones that are going to be fighting it out.
00:29:02
Nick Britten
And they've got an almighty fight on their heads. But you talked about hot news, because I was going to mention, kid by the way, I was going to mention that
00:29:06
Global Sports Podcast Network
yeah
00:29:11
Nick Britten
in the In the betting, you've got you've got managers like the Chef and Wesley manager, Danny Rolle, you've got managers like the Westboro manager, Carlos Coran. Those are going to help you.
00:29:22
Nick Britten
you know David Moyes is being heavily mentioned. That probably would help you, to be fair.
00:29:26
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah. That would be a good appointment, but they've not appointed Moist, they've appointed Ivan Yurich, the ex-
00:29:28
Nick Britten
but it and crypt
00:29:33
Nick Britten
well hopefully
00:29:34
Global Sports Podcast Network
Romabot.
00:29:35
Nick Britten
well so is columns
00:29:35
Global Sports Podcast Network
This morning, I'd just been off i've just been on the phone to the chairman and I said, have you made a decision yet?
00:29:39
Nick Britten
have you yeah
00:29:40
Global Sports Podcast Network
He says, yeah, we're going with Yorich. Yorich is the ex-Romabot sacked. after only two months from Roma. I've just had a quick chat before we started the podcast about what I could learn about Ivan Yorich, Croatian, by the way, spent all this time as a manager in Italy. So it started with Mantova, then then Genoa, then Verona, then Torino, then Roma. So there's been an ascendancy in Italy with ah with the size of the team she's managed.
00:30:12
Global Sports Podcast Network
But that's all he's seen. He's only ever seen Italy. And you know it wasn't a very happy experience at Roma, by all accounts. And now he's landed at Southampton.
00:30:24
Global Sports Podcast Network
And by the way, I should say there's a break clause in his deal, I think, at the end of the season. ah And it's a break clause that he can be released if they don't stay up.
00:30:36
Global Sports Podcast Network
They ain't staying up.
00:30:36
Nick Britten
um what look Okay, why has he been on board to do that?
00:30:37
Global Sports Podcast Network
so
00:30:42
Nick Britten
If there's a break clause in the summer, that will tell you that, right, well, your job is to stay out, keep us up, keep us up, we'll get rid of you. That's what that screams.
00:30:53
Nick Britten
Am I wrong here?
00:30:55
Global Sports Podcast Network
No, I think you're probably right.
00:30:55
Nick Britten
Because that's what that says to me straight away.
00:30:58
Global Sports Podcast Network
All the alternative is, ah hey, we're going to make a decision when we get relegated. But just hold the thought. Don't know. i mean I wish to bloke the very best of luck.
00:31:11
Global Sports Podcast Network
He isn't the kind of person I would naturally go to ah if my life depended on staying in the Premier League, though.
00:31:20
Nick Britten
It's all right. correct David Moyesman would have been that person.
00:31:22
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:31:23
Nick Britten
For all we know, maybe they asked him. I don't know. But it's ah it's a fabulous task. But I'd imagine if you are hell bent on staying up at all costs, you don't you don't go down this road at all.
00:31:36
Nick Britten
You look for somebody who has a really good experience in the Premier League and who is capable of a dogfight, because that's what Southampton are in. And their team at the moment is not set up at all.
00:31:48
Nick Britten
for a dogfight. They've got some really good players, by the way. I enjoy watching them play when they are in the opposition's half, but like everybody, probably and everybody has found no doubt, you watch through your fingers where the balls are in and around their penalty area.
00:32:03
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, no, that makes sense.
00:32:05
Global Sports Podcast Network
By the way, I feel much more confident about the wolf situation and the Pereira appointment. Obviously, there's always been this connection between wolves and Portugal.
00:32:16
Global Sports Podcast Network
And it's, I think, through super agents and things like this. But eight of the squad that was in the last team, last wolves team, speak Portuguese as their first language. And obviously, Pereira is Portuguese.
00:32:28
Nick Britten
ah but' what i hide him that's why of i him yeah Yeah, yeah, that's all right. I think they're okay. As a team, I think they're a good side that's lost their way. Really, they shouldn't be down at the bottom of the league, but they are because they deserve to be, but they've got capability. I, yeah, when you look at the teams down there and do you look at the manager of managerial changes that are being made, this is the third one now, isn't it, with with teams threatening relegation.
00:32:54
Nick Britten
We had found this rule at Leicester Cup again the other day, as well as now Southampton and Wolves. What do you think, Ken? What do you think? You've got Southampton and and Everton. It looks to me like it's going to be those five. and Which out of the three manager change managerial is getting your crystal ball out, do you think is the most proficient?
00:33:17
Global Sports Podcast Network
in terms of the appointment, which is the best appointment?
00:33:21
Nick Britten
yeah it's just a float Yeah, so who's going to get their tea out of trouble? Let's waltz out and look it up. This is right for our, or, or your mother's.
00:33:29
Global Sports Podcast Network
Pereira. Pereira. I think Pereira, I have no doubt. I mean, the two titles you won with Porto. I know Porto and sporting at Benfica, that's it then in the Portugal League, really. ah But you know, one of those seasons you went unbeaten. I mean, this is clearly a coach that can ah can motivate. Clearly he's got a pretty good idea in terms of tactically what he needs to do. It's a very different ball game, absolutely accept that. But with this thing about the Portuguese, a lot of Portuguese players there, he's a Portuguese manager, yeah i think he's kind of I think he's going to turn it around. I give a big thumbs up to the Pereira appointment.
00:34:06
Global Sports Podcast Network
give a big thumbs down to your disappointment. So my money's on Pereira to to actually, yeah I think they're going to get clear and they're going to get clear by quite ah quite a distance.
00:34:17
Nick Britten
And then to finish that train of thought off, you gave a big thumbs down to the Van Dusen Royal Parliament. Have you changed your mind after three games?
00:34:24
Global Sports Podcast Network
No, I still ah still think Lester are going. And I think Ipswich are going.
00:34:30
Nick Britten
you have Right, very good.
00:34:34
Global Sports Podcast Network
What about you?
00:34:35
Nick Britten
Yeah, I yeah ah think you're probably right. I think you're probably right because I do think Wolves will get out of it. I think they're a better team. Out of those bottom five, they're probably the best football wall of team of the lot.
00:34:48
Nick Britten
Everton, gosh, they just hang around the bottom of the league without ever getting relegated.
00:34:51
Global Sports Podcast Network
Take the skin out of it.
00:34:52
Nick Britten
They don't do anything to hang about. They'll probably finish you know where they are. They'll win a couple of games when it looks like they're in jeopardy. and they'll just carry on next season, of the season after the season after that, achieving very little.
00:35:05
Nick Britten
But yeah, wolves will probably get out of it, so yeah, let's strip switch south at this stage. i think I think we're agreed on that. That's two things. Two things we've agreed on in the space of half an hour, Ken.
00:35:14
Nick Britten
There's something going wrong. It must be Christmas.
00:35:14
Global Sports Podcast Network
i
00:35:15
Global Sports Podcast Network
Something's not right. Something's not right.
Speculations on Premier League Managerial Changes
00:35:18
Global Sports Podcast Network
Now, I wasn't a bit disappointed that we didn't see the return of a Harry Redknapp or an Allardyce or a Neil Warnock. I mean, that would just be the cherry on the icing of the cake, really, but that was never going to happen anymore, is it?
00:35:24
Nick Britten
kid boy so and Well, I'm not going to go Southampton. Oh, you know, that's how he read that territory, isn't it?
00:35:32
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, it is down the road.
00:35:35
Nick Britten
Don't be surprised if he turns out to be director of football in a week's time.
00:35:39
Global Sports Podcast Network
okay much ah Right okay so that is that is the managerial merry-go-round by the way we should say and we should finish this part by saying okay we've got look at two of them who's next on the merry-go-round you are asked three or four to watch on the managerial merry-go-round
00:35:57
Nick Britten
well By the very nature of their lead position, Kieran McKenna has to be one, although there's nothing to suggest whatsoever that he's in any danger. But you just don't know until you know. If they if they there's a great win against Wolves, by the way, and that stops a run of three consecutive defeats and a kind of slide. Well, not really a slide because the teams below them are losing, but it just kind of cements them in that bottom three a little bit.
00:36:22
Nick Britten
You know, it's a difficult season for Ipswich. Maybe they've got enough. I don't think they will in the end. But, equally, Kieran McKenna's got loads and loads of good will at the bank. And I don't think he's in it under any threat.
00:36:34
Nick Britten
But when you look at that bottom five, three have changed. Are we ever going to get really short, Deutsch? Doubt it.
00:36:40
Global Sports Podcast Network
Mmm.
00:36:41
Nick Britten
Doubt it. You know, then you go up to Paris who are starting to pick up four and start to move up the table.
00:36:44
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, I apologize.
00:36:47
Nick Britten
So I think any kind of any any Any distant threat of all of Glasgow seems to have probably lifted for now. Then you're up to West Ham, lots of days constantly under threat. and Then you're into the sort of magnetic Newcastle breadfruit. Nothing going on there. So really, I don't think the three changes that have been made are the three changes that will be made. I'd be quite surprised, if I'm honest, to see anybody else get the sack.
00:37:10
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, i've I've still got a funny feeling about pep.
00:37:14
Global Sports Podcast Network
I have to tell you, I've got a funny feeling in about pep.
00:37:17
Nick Britten
Well, are you sure that's just not your breakfast?
00:37:18
Global Sports Podcast Network
It probably is, it probably is. But it's, you know, I just think things are collapsing of pretty rapid rate of knots there. And that brings us, that's we've done this before.
00:37:29
Nick Britten
Yeah, but let's wait let's look at it. If you just think about it think about it so carefully for a moment, which I know you don't like thinking about these things carefully for on a moment, but if you do, there's no way after what is achieved that matches the city that pay is going to get sacked.
00:37:35
Global Sports Podcast Network
no like
00:37:46
Nick Britten
Yeah. He will leave. If he's going to go, he'll leave.
00:37:49
Global Sports Podcast Network
Well, it might be that.
00:37:50
Nick Britten
No, he won't.
00:37:50
Global Sports Podcast Network
It might be that. I'm just thinking, i just thinking stuff, something's building here. Something's building here. I'm just getting this, you know i mu me, I've got a sixth sense for these things. Something's bubbling away.
00:38:03
Global Sports Podcast Network
ah But that may well also be my breakfast. um But it's a great segue, because it's about time we had a look at some of the games which have caught your eye in the in the next few days.
Preview of Upcoming Matches
00:38:15
Global Sports Podcast Network
We'll have a look at how we did on the prediction league last week, and we'll do some predictions for this week. So ah there's a great some great games coming up. What's ah any particular games that you're looking down the list and thinking, yeah, can't wait for that one to kick off?
00:38:32
Nick Britten
I think Everton, Chelsea's one's caught my eye for this week because Chelsea are doing so so well at the top of the league and are a joy to watch at the moment and our At the moment, shaping up to be the only kind of serious title contender to Liverpool. And at the other end, Everton, well, you know, we've just been talking about what's going on at the bottom end of the table. If switching three points behind them, you know, Everton could conceivably pick up, you know, could conceivably rather find themselves in the bottom three if they don't kind of pick the format. They've won, what, one out of five, they've drawn three, lost one. It's a typical Everton kind of form.
00:39:10
Global Sports Podcast Network
Hmm.
00:39:11
Nick Britten
if If they end up losing a couple and somebody, you know, Wolves pick up, for example, they could be in a spot of bother here. So tracking their progress. I think Everton, Chelsea, it will be an interesting game to watch.
00:39:22
Nick Britten
Tottenham, Liverpool, obviously on Sunday afternoon for the basketball, ah basketball fans amongst us, that's going to be, should be a very entertaining game, all good.
00:39:22
Global Sports Podcast Network
Well, great.
00:39:32
Nick Britten
And then otherwise, you know, Brentford, who would have thought at the start of the season, let's talk about a Tottenham Premier League clash, Brentford versus Forest. Who would have thought would be having that conversation?
00:39:41
Global Sports Podcast Network
the middle.
00:39:41
Nick Britten
But both teams going, well, breakfast home form is is great. We've talked already about how Forester's just grinding results out and picking up points. And they're good on the road. So again, that should be a good one there. Probably my three ticker of the weekend case.
00:39:54
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, I wouldn't disagree with those. A couple more just to add to that, I think are going to be food for thought next week. Villa City I think is a big game. Everything that's got City in it at the moment is catching my attention. I think the Ipswich Newcastle game would be interesting because I've got a feeling for Ipswich at the weekend, we'll come to Ipswich in a minute,
00:40:18
Global Sports Podcast Network
I've got a feeling they may benefit from their good performance last week. I think Newcastle, we were talking last week, are very inconsistent. I know they had a good win in the Cup, but I think that will be an interesting game.
00:40:34
Global Sports Podcast Network
Predictions just to give you the results by the way of last week of the nine in scores last week. nine Nick got three, Ken got three, Jesse got four. So currently Nick's top of the table, never thought I'd say that, on 11.
00:40:49
Nick Britten
Still, sorry, still top of the table, I think he meant.
00:40:53
Global Sports Podcast Network
I'd still top of the table on 11.
00:40:53
Nick Britten
I was top of the table, I was top of the table by miles going into the last week's pictures, but I appreciate that I had a bad week last week, but I'm glad to see everybody else did as well.
00:41:02
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, I know, it's a difficult way, too many drawers, last week Jesse's on nine, Ken's on eight, that's where we are. So I'm going to go down the fixtures, Nick, I want your predictions. I haven't got Jesse's yet, but I'll make sure I do before the game starts. Villa City, Nick.
00:41:20
Nick Britten
Oh, this is really tricky, isn't it? This is tricky. I mean, Vellar aren't in great form themselves. City, we all know what's going on. For keepsake, sooner or later, City are going to come good. I can't see City winning it, if I'm honest. It's whether it's a draw or a home win, I think. But you know what? I'm going to go home win. I'm going to go Vellar to win it.
00:41:43
Global Sports Podcast Network
I'll set the cat amongst the pigeons. and I've got a drawer on that one.
00:41:46
Nick Britten
Yeah, you might be right, Nick.
00:41:46
Global Sports Podcast Network
Brentford Forest.
00:41:47
Nick Britten
Yeah, you might be right. Yeah.
00:41:50
Global Sports Podcast Network
Brentford Forest.
00:41:51
Nick Britten
Yeah, I don't know, I don't know. So I'm still stuck on a video game. I'll go for it, yeah. Bread for Forest.
00:42:02
Nick Britten
Yeah, I'm going to go for a home win. I'm going to go for a home win.
00:42:04
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yep, server. Ipswich Newcastle.
00:42:09
Nick Britten
Yes, draw. I think you're right. I think you're right. Ipswich have picked up. So Newcastle, you know, they've had two really good four goal wins in the last few days. They're hopefully picking up four for anyhow.
00:42:23
Nick Britten
It's which play well at home, but they're not that good. You know, there's there's a reason why teams are down at the bottom three. So yeah, score draw for that one.
00:42:31
Global Sports Podcast Network
I've gone for a home win on that one. West Ham against Brighton. Lappetegui, are things turning for him?
00:42:38
Nick Britten
you Yeah. Our things tell you for Brighton, who seems to sort of be yeah just having a little bit of a bit of a dip in form you know they've lost two out the last four and draw the last the other two so have one of the last four uh away from home west uh this is a tough one this is a tough you know if one of those we're not quite sure because you're not quite sure which west hand we're going to turn up either uh and uh maybe i'll go for a thriller maybe i'll go for a tool through and a draw go on
00:43:05
Global Sports Podcast Network
yeah
00:43:09
Global Sports Podcast Network
Okay, I've gone for a home win on that one. Palace Arsenal, we didn't really mention this. This is, I mean, Palace are on a bit of a roll at the moment. so
00:43:18
Nick Britten
They are, obviously, a good game. I know it's carried on a couple of days ago. Managers changed teams for that. Palace at home are good. Arsenal's form is good, although they draw the last couple. I can see them draw on this one as well, you know. I can see them draw on this one. So, yeah. I might just go for another draw.
00:43:44
Global Sports Podcast Network
Okay, you've gone for a draw. I've gone for an away win. I think Arsenal are gonna...
00:43:48
Nick Britten
i not I'm not completely confident about any of these, I've got to say. but just other and there is yeah I Yeah.
00:43:51
Global Sports Podcast Network
No, it's a tricky week, this. It's a proper tricky week.
00:43:56
Global Sports Podcast Network
It was a pretty tricky week for his last week, to be fair, either. Everton, Chelsea. I think there might be an agreement on this one.
00:44:00
Nick Britten
I don't think this is tricky. Yeah, I don't think this i don't think this one is tricky. It's an away with Chelsea all day long.
00:44:06
Global Sports Podcast Network
Okay, and probably something that follows a similar pattern. Fulham, Southampton.
00:44:12
Nick Britten
Well, it doesn't follow a similar path because it's not going to be an away with. So, home win, I would say.
00:44:18
Global Sports Podcast Network
a similar pattern in terms of certainty. I think we'd get them on our bankers list. Lester wolves.
00:44:26
Nick Britten
Yeah, well, it's the two new managers coming together, isn't it? So, yeah, I think... I'm going to go home with...
00:44:37
Nick Britten
I'm going to go home with... It's just too early for Wolves to... Is it, though? Although, is it? Now, come on, let's think about this. Is it? They've got new managers coming. As you say, we've gone through the Portuguese connections.
00:44:47
Nick Britten
All of those players are going to be right after this, aren't they?
00:44:49
Global Sports Podcast Network
Right before it.
00:44:49
Nick Britten
They're going to be right after this. ah yeah Yeah, Lester coming off the back of a real tank head. And I watched the game when I played Newcastle last Saturday. I watched the whole game live.
00:45:01
Nick Britten
And they were rubbish. I mean, they were truly awful.
00:45:05
Nick Britten
But, you know, Valdestra spoke after the game about, well, we've started OK. We're learning, you know, we're learning these cards before existing. Oh, er... 2-1, Wolves.
00:45:16
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:45:16
Nick Britten
There you go.
00:45:17
Global Sports Podcast Network
You switched, I think, from a home to an away there and I...
00:45:18
Nick Britten
Do you have to quit? but I've talked myself back to my original.
00:45:23
Global Sports Podcast Network
You taught yourself right out of a home win there, watch Leicester go and win three nil now. No, I'm an away win as well. I you know i can't wax lyrical about Pereira and then say, oh, but they're going to lose it, ah Leicester.
00:45:36
Global Sports Podcast Network
No, I think Wolves are going to win that one. Man United versus Bournemouth.
00:45:40
Nick Britten
but but You go first here, because I'm um i'm not quite sure on this. I want to hear what you've got to say first.
00:45:46
Global Sports Podcast Network
I've gone home on that one. I think, obviously, it was massive in terms of, you know, United's resort last weekend and I think it's Yeah, I think they're turning the corner. I think it's taken a bit of time, but I think he's had that time. I think Amorim showed himself to be pretty strong disciplinarian in relation to Russia thing. I just think the United have got a bit of confidence, a bit of swagger back in the stride. So I'm going for a relatively comfortable 2-0 victory for United on that one.
00:46:19
Nick Britten
Right, I go through ball with a whip and I'll tell you why.
00:46:24
Global Sports Podcast Network
Explain yourself, Mick.
00:46:25
Global Sports Podcast Network
Explain yourself.
00:46:27
Nick Britten
Well, they've won three out of the last four. Their four was excellent. They have had, by the way, they have had more shots. Yeah.
00:46:37
Nick Britten
More shots per game than anybody else in the Peruvian league. They attack with Vib and Vigo and Flair. And I don't and out of it though.
00:46:46
Global Sports Podcast Network
They're a good top three there, aren't they? Vin bigger than Flair, they're playing ever so well.
00:46:53
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, yeah. And Vin does the cleaning after the game as well.
00:46:55
Nick Britten
music but we yeah The figure just runs around that see but ah try like got a I don't think Man United have yet got to grips with it. And this system is three, sort of three, four, three system. I can see Bournemouth exploiting their back line is what I'm trying to say in a very long winded way. And I think they'll outscore them. It'll maybe be two, one, but I've got to go for a Bournemouth win.
00:47:21
Global Sports Podcast Network
Very good. And finally, the big game on Sunday, Spurs Liverpool could go either way.
00:47:26
Global Sports Podcast Network
It's going to be, how many goals did we score at the end? Just keep counting.
00:47:31
Nick Britten
Yeah, I think this might be 18, 19 or something like that. ah Liverpool... I mean, you think Liverpool would be too strong, wouldn't you? You just think Liverpool would be too good. They're top of the table, you know, they're doing well, but again, they've they've drawn the last couple and... just so unpredictable. But we know what they'll do. They'll go, them for if they'll fly them. Could it be another 4-3? Might be another 4-3. In fact, yeah, let's go for a 4-3. Let's go 4-3 to top them.
00:48:06
Global Sports Podcast Network
Well done. I've got a home win for that.
00:48:08
Global Sports Podcast Network
i think i think chotenham I think it could even be a 4-1. It's going to be one of them games, I think.
00:48:13
Global Sports Podcast Network
And we know how inconsistent they are, and they can be good against good teams.
00:48:17
Global Sports Podcast Network
So I've gone for a Spurs home win. You know what that means, Nick, by the way? If we're right in these predictions, Chelsea are top of the league on Sunday night.
00:48:26
Nick Britten
but Yeah, which will be amazing. I don't say that because I'm not jealous of that, but it will be amazing just in a general sense of that. It will look like they were absolutely running away with it, not that long ago. I've just checked, by the way, I've just checked just in case I was missing a Monday night game, so I've just had a quick check of the fixes. The only league game on Monday night is trolley versus boom in league one, so I don't know if you want to have a bonus prediction for that, probably not.
00:48:51
Global Sports Podcast Network
aye Crawley, 3-0. I mean, Crawley playing ever so well. I've no idea. I'm not interested. I couldn't be less interested in what happens at Crawley than you know what happens at Burton Albion.
00:49:06
Nick Britten
Well, you should because your team is one point behind Birmingham. So you should be interested Right.
00:49:10
Global Sports Podcast Network
Burton Albion, not Birmingham City. here I'm very, very stressed about what's happening at Birmingham. Anyway, So, we have, oh no, so oh but but sorry, I misunderstood that.
00:49:23
Global Sports Podcast Network
So are Birmingham away at Crawley?
00:49:26
Nick Britten
Yes, that's what I'm saying. Yeah.
00:49:27
Global Sports Podcast Network
I beg your pardon.
00:49:27
Nick Britten
Crawley have played Birmingham.
00:49:28
Global Sports Podcast Network
Beg your pardon. Oh yeah, I am exercised about that. I want definitely want a 2-0 Crawley win.
00:49:34
Nick Britten
Yeah. Okay, probably won't happen though, will it?
00:49:37
Global Sports Podcast Network
No.
00:49:38
Nick Britten
It'll be a burden you'll win on that.
00:49:40
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yes, it will. that but Birmingham are winning league one.
00:49:42
Global Sports Podcast Network
ah Get your money on it straight away. Rexxum just needs to get past Wickham Wanderers. That's all we need to worry about. Anyway, enough about Rexxum, enough about Derby. That was episode four of that Saturday feeling.
