Hosts Share Personal Gratitude Moments
00:01:06
Speaker
And today we are going to dive into a really fun topic around magic.
00:01:12
Speaker
And before we get started on this fun conversation, we're going to share gratitude.
00:01:18
Speaker
So Helzian, you want to spark us off with what you're grateful for today?
00:01:23
Speaker
I am feeling grateful for an awareness that after a lifetime of thinking my parents were not cool, I had this epiphany that, you know what, my dad was pretty cool.
00:01:34
Speaker
And so I got to tell him this week and I'm like, dad, I never wanted to admit this to you, but you're a cool guy.
00:01:39
Speaker
So I'm glad I got the epiphany and the ability to tell him.
00:01:45
Speaker
Or I have to, I would have to want to hear more about that later.
00:01:51
Speaker
So my gratitude for the moment is.
00:01:57
Speaker
For our midwives, as people, as you two know, and people who are listening, my partner and I are expecting a baby coming up any day now.
00:02:05
Speaker
And we had the midwives over last week to check out the space because we're having a home birth.
00:02:09
Speaker
And they were just, they're awesome.
00:02:12
Speaker
They're no nonsense.
00:02:13
Speaker
They're like, get it.
00:02:15
Speaker
They get to the point.
00:02:17
Speaker
but they're very cool and supportive and there's, yeah, it was just a fantastic meeting.
00:02:22
Speaker
I had no reservations about it, but after meeting with them, I actually got a little bit like a little bit more excited about the process.
00:02:35
Speaker
I'll share my gratitude is for dance.
00:02:38
Speaker
I've probably shared this gratitude many times, but it just continues to support me in feeling good mind, body, spirit.
00:02:45
Speaker
And I got a really good dance session in this last weekend for like an hour and a half straight and an ecstatic dance.
00:02:52
Speaker
And I feel amazing from it.
00:02:54
Speaker
So my gratitude is for movement and dance.
Incorporating Magic into Daily Life
00:03:00
Speaker
And I'm actually really grateful to talk about this, um, this conversation with you guys around magic and what is magic and how do we incorporate the essence of magic into our lives and how do we see it?
00:03:14
Speaker
Um, it's such a complex dynamic conversation and I love getting to talk with both of you because you both always have such unique perspectives and I'd love to just kind of
00:03:25
Speaker
start off with that inquiry around what is magic to you?
00:03:31
Speaker
How do you see magic in the world?
00:03:33
Speaker
How do you interact with it?
00:03:40
Speaker
When we were getting ready to start thinking about this topic, I had a big wall of resistance of like, oh, gosh, I'm going to be the heavy skeptic in this conversation.
00:03:50
Speaker
And I do have a lot of skepticism about almost everything, which we'll get into more.
00:03:55
Speaker
But for me, magic, the more I thought about it, for me, it's all those things that are kind of outside of the
00:04:06
Speaker
the default reality, but that are affecting my life and are affecting the world.
00:04:12
Speaker
And the older I get, the more I realize that the default reality is a very limited part of what is happening.
00:04:20
Speaker
So to me, magic is all those flows of energy and intention that are impacting myself and the world around me.
00:04:32
Speaker
That makes me think of the unseen, what is in the unseen realms, right?
00:04:37
Speaker
There's so much that we can see in this dimension, but there's also a lot happening beyond the veil of what we can actually see.
00:04:46
Speaker
So yeah, that's definitely resonates with me.
00:04:49
Speaker
How about you, Giannis?
00:04:53
Speaker
Well, there is a definition that a friend of all of ours shared with us, shared with me several years ago that kind of resonated with me and said that everything in this world can be categorized and can be put into three categories.
00:05:09
Speaker
There is the known, there is the unknown, which can be made known, and there is the unknowable, which can never be known.
00:05:20
Speaker
That's that said the unknowable is still something that we can access and we can work with as long as we're don't attach to what that is.
00:05:30
Speaker
And our, you know, our, a lot of our, a lot of people's lives is, is, is directed towards making the unknown known while also knowing that there are stuff that we can, we can never know.
00:05:42
Speaker
And we can tap into that and, you,
00:05:47
Speaker
Yeah, kind of create our own cosmology in the world about how things work.
00:05:51
Speaker
And when we kind of like, well, how's that going to work?
00:05:56
Speaker
But the thing is, there was a trip that Betsy and I took along with several other people to Dominher Italy several years ago.
00:06:05
Speaker
And they have this whole wild-sounding technology that they would say, okay, this is what this is, and this is how it works.
00:06:13
Speaker
And I remember a few of us, myself being one of us, like, okay, how does that work?
00:06:16
Speaker
And they're like, we don't know.
00:06:18
Speaker
All we know is that it works.
00:06:19
Speaker
And they're just like...
Manifestation and Co-Creation
00:06:20
Speaker
okay, super skeptical, but let's try it out.
00:06:24
Speaker
And a number of us would try these things out and they would work and they would have the, they would do the thing that we were told was going to happen and be like, how did that happen?
00:06:32
Speaker
They're like, we don't know.
00:06:33
Speaker
It's just kind of, it just works.
00:06:35
Speaker
So, so a definition of science of, of,
00:06:40
Speaker
magic by a lot of people is science that um hasn't been like proven yet um like if we were to show like a cell phone to somebody from 100 years ago that would be magic to them so it's it's you know they're kind of two sides of the same coin science and magic is just uh science is just um magic that hasn't been understood yet or vice versa yes that's so beautiful
00:07:06
Speaker
Yeah, I love this concept because one of the reflections I get from a lot of people that witness my style of living is, oh, Betsy, you're so magical.
00:07:19
Speaker
You live such a magical life.
00:07:21
Speaker
And for a long time, I always, I kind of would resist that expression because I'm sitting here going, I'm just living life.
00:07:31
Speaker
I'm doing my normal thing.
00:07:34
Speaker
But then I started to realize it's a little more out of the box.
00:07:38
Speaker
and not so traditional style of living, you know, in your typical nine to five, or just a simple kind of lifestyle, I do have a tendency to kind of explore the edges of what's possible in this dimension, and opening up to new ways of thinking and new ways of trying on things.
00:07:59
Speaker
And, you know, the buzzword of manifestation, you know, things materializing out of thin air, as it seems, you know, of course, it's
00:08:08
Speaker
That's like the essence of, you know, the Houdini, right?
00:08:11
Speaker
He's able to like pull a rabbit out of a hat.
00:08:13
Speaker
It was like, how did he do that?
00:08:15
Speaker
And it's like, how did I manifest a multimillion dollar house to live in?
00:08:19
Speaker
You know, it's not like I just was sitting there waiting for the house to appear.
00:08:24
Speaker
There is a process that we get to experience and be in what I consider a co-creation with the universe, right?
00:08:33
Speaker
And the quantum realities of, you know, the unseen.
00:08:37
Speaker
And so I think it's a really wonderful way to start to see the world and start to live from that place of abracadabra.
00:08:48
Speaker
Abracadabra is another expression of magic, which do you guys know what the meaning of that is?
00:08:54
Speaker
Or like the translation?
00:08:58
Speaker
I'd love to hear your explanation.
00:09:01
Speaker
Like a pretty basic translation that I've heard is words create.
00:09:06
Speaker
So you speak and so it is right.
00:09:09
Speaker
And so it is essentially our words, our words create.
00:09:14
Speaker
And so that is definitely a way of living from my perspective in magic.
00:09:22
Speaker
Well, it goes to, you know, I'm real, I'm a, I'm a big fan of entomology and the,
00:09:27
Speaker
Where do these words or descriptions come from?
00:09:32
Speaker
And to the best of my knowledge, that is where the term spelling comes from.
00:09:38
Speaker
To spell something means to create something.
00:09:42
Speaker
We create with our words and our words create as a result.
00:09:46
Speaker
I mentioned before in one of our earlier podcasts
Intention and Ritual Practices
00:09:50
Speaker
how nothing is created unless it is spoken.
00:09:54
Speaker
about first like even doesn't matter like a business idea or a book like i'm going to write a book like no book just appears unless those words are actually said aloud um i need to go you know like clothes don't appear in our closet until we're like i need to go shopping i need i need i need new pants or whatever then you know you will have new pants but to me my own cause you know going back to like our own cosmology is like
00:10:17
Speaker
We need to speak these things into existence.
00:10:20
Speaker
And I think that's where, you know, that is where the term spelling comes from.
00:10:23
Speaker
So to, you know, our words create.
00:10:25
Speaker
So it must first be uttered and then it can be created into our reality.
00:10:31
Speaker
And I also, you know, think that comes down to belief.
00:10:34
Speaker
I don't, I think it's really hard for things we, we want or we want to experience or we want to have whatever, or just the way we want to live.
00:10:43
Speaker
If we don't believe we can do that or can have that,
00:10:47
Speaker
It's really hard, if not impossible, for these things to come into our life.
00:10:50
Speaker
If we don't believe that we deserve love, we're probably not going to find ourselves in a loving, you know,
00:10:59
Speaker
you know, kind relationship with anybody, frankly.
00:11:02
Speaker
So we have to, we have to, you know, get to this place of belief before, you know, before we experience it, you know, you know, there's a lot of, a lot of people are like, you know, I'll believe it when I see it.
00:11:13
Speaker
You got to flip that around.
00:11:14
Speaker
It's gotta be, I will believe it.
00:11:17
Speaker
And then I will see it because that's, that's, that's how it goes.
00:11:21
Speaker
It's such a difficult thing, though.
00:11:25
Speaker
That is, I think, the struggle of the skeptic is, you know, well,
00:11:30
Speaker
prove it like well but it's not going to happen if you don't make space in your mind for it to be a possibility so if you are are limiting the possibility of something happening by your by your beliefs you are not going to see it it's not going to be witnessable it's like the the basics of like cognitive bias and confirmation bias and your brain finds evidence for what it already believes to be true and the same is true of limiting
00:11:53
Speaker
you know, what is possible.
00:11:55
Speaker
And so if you are given a medical treatment and you don't believe it's gonna work, it's not gonna work.
00:12:03
Speaker
You know, there's just, there's, and if you don't believe that you're gonna have opportunities to live in a multi-million dollar home, you're not gonna see it when they happen.
00:12:12
Speaker
They're not gonna be, it's not gonna even be around you, but you need, it might be a possibility.
00:12:16
Speaker
It might be an option for you, but you won't see it when it's right in front of you.
00:12:20
Speaker
And I think to me, that's a big part of my understanding of magic is breaking through the limiting aspects of our minds.
00:12:31
Speaker
Reality in a brand new brain, there's so many pathways that could be formed to what reality is.
00:12:38
Speaker
But as we start to live, we start to limit what our reality is, what is possible.
00:12:43
Speaker
And then we live in those grooves.
00:12:45
Speaker
And anything outside of those groups is simply impossible unless you can find some way through magic or otherwise to go to, to expand that.
00:12:55
Speaker
And that's, so my, within my skepticism is this deeper understanding that I am, I know I'm limiting reality by my, the grooves in my, of my brain.
00:13:05
Speaker
So how can I chip away or, or, or open up to more possibilities?
00:13:13
Speaker
That's a good question to be in.
00:13:14
Speaker
How can I start to expand my perspective of what's possible?
00:13:18
Speaker
Because that really does open up this infinite mindset.
00:13:22
Speaker
Because, yeah, we are somewhat conditioned to see things in a limited viewpoint.
00:13:27
Speaker
But when we start to open and expand our consciousness to see, then we can get really surprised by how powerful our imagination is.
00:13:37
Speaker
you know, and I, I feel like I also want to incorporate the, the power of intention into this conversation, intention and ritual, right, are very much a part of magic and my personal experience, to be able to get to that place of having the belief that you're speaking to, Yanis, right, holding that strong belief of anything is possible and having that expansive,
00:14:03
Speaker
That anything really is possible.
00:14:05
Speaker
And then incorporating rituals that can support that ongoing intention, right?
00:14:12
Speaker
Of opening up to more goodness, more abundance, more love, you know, just alignment even, right?
00:14:20
Speaker
Because if we're sitting here questioning whether it's possible or we're in habit patterns that don't really support the belief, then it's very easy to fall out of
Personal Rituals and Beliefs
00:14:29
Speaker
So the rituals are
00:14:31
Speaker
And the intentions, regular intentions can really help to just fan those flames.
00:14:37
Speaker
So for me, I have started to incorporate very simple intention practices throughout my life.
00:14:44
Speaker
Like journaling is a huge one for me.
00:14:47
Speaker
I have many different journals.
00:14:49
Speaker
One of mine is very specific for gratitude.
00:14:53
Speaker
One is specific for affirmations.
00:14:55
Speaker
As you know, the power affirmation.
00:14:57
Speaker
And then I have one specifically for intentions.
00:15:00
Speaker
And as we're talking about spelling, right?
00:15:03
Speaker
Spellcasting or words are powerful.
00:15:05
Speaker
When we write down or when I write down my intentions, even it might just be even one word sometimes, then it helps me to just really bring it into a certain frequency within my soul, within my being.
00:15:20
Speaker
So that way I can operate from that place and I can be reminded of those intentions on a regular basis.
00:15:28
Speaker
That's, that's something just real quick.
00:15:31
Speaker
That's something that somebody was able to drive home to me.
00:15:33
Speaker
Cause I was like, ritual and so forth.
00:15:37
Speaker
No, if you look at ritual as a form of meditation, it allows you to focus and allows you to narrow your focus into what it is that you're looking to do.
00:15:46
Speaker
Because it's so easy to be like, oh, I just want this thing to happen.
00:15:48
Speaker
It's like, no, sit down with your cards, your journal, whatever, light a candle.
00:15:54
Speaker
And all it does is narrow your focus, get the other distractions, you know,
00:16:00
Speaker
off your plate so that you can focus on your intentions for what you're looking to accomplish.
00:16:05
Speaker
And once I framed it like that ritual as meditation, I got a lot more, I don't want to say results, but I got a lot more intentional with my life and my life improved as a result.
00:16:19
Speaker
And it sounds like your resistance and skepticism softened around it.
00:16:23
Speaker
Because the word ritual can have some certain
00:16:27
Speaker
connotations to it.
00:16:28
Speaker
And if you're not a particularly woo woo or spiritual person, it can be like, oh yeah, let's go and pull out some crystals and be a little woo woo.
00:16:38
Speaker
But like really when we are looking at our life, we're always, we have so many rituals throughout the day.
00:16:43
Speaker
You might make coffee every day.
00:16:45
Speaker
That's a ritual, right?
00:16:47
Speaker
Where I see that where the magic comes is in is where you infuse intention into your ritual.
00:16:53
Speaker
And what you're speaking to is having the intention of presence and focus, which is very powerful because that ripples out into the rest of our day and our interactions and our endeavors and our projects.
00:17:07
Speaker
You know, I definitely was I had some judgmental, skeptical thoughts about certain rituals and crystals and affirmations and many of those things.
00:17:20
Speaker
And I was lucky to get to a dark night of the soul of just really being humbled and having to ask.
00:17:29
Speaker
and look to people that I knew and that I saw to be living lives that I admired.
00:17:35
Speaker
And Betsy, you were one of those people where I'm like, wait, so how crazy that I am judging the practices
00:17:44
Speaker
of someone who is living a life that I would like to have closer to my own while I am unhappy with the way my existing practices are leading to a place of despair.
00:17:57
Speaker
So I had to really get broken down to be like, my beliefs around these things are not serving me.
00:18:02
Speaker
So can I surrender?
00:18:04
Speaker
Can I let go of my trust of my brain's limitations and try and be more open
00:18:11
Speaker
to beliefs that the old version of me was not open to.
00:18:17
Speaker
I'm so glad that I could be in there for you, Halcyon.
00:18:23
Speaker
And, you know, I think it's important for each of us to find our own connection because the way that I do my own ritual is maybe not going to be the same as somebody else's.
00:18:34
Speaker
You know, yes, I love crystals.
00:18:36
Speaker
Crystals are a huge part of my life.
00:18:38
Speaker
I carry with them, them with me everywhere.
00:18:40
Speaker
I have crystal altars in my house.
00:18:44
Speaker
They feel really good.
00:18:45
Speaker
But crystals might not be something that really resonates with everybody, you know, but you might have something else that really supports you.
00:18:53
Speaker
Maybe you love incense.
00:18:55
Speaker
Scents really are good for you.
00:18:57
Speaker
And you mentioned that.
00:18:59
Speaker
some kind of smoke, right?
00:19:01
Speaker
Sage or Palo Santo or some other way to be able to just connect to your own practice and your own intention, right?
00:19:07
Speaker
I think that that is the most important that is that it feels authentic, right?
00:19:12
Speaker
Because if we're forcing a ritual or like just doing some certain steps because a book or another person told us to do the thing, then it's coming from our head.
00:19:25
Speaker
It's not coming from our heart.
00:19:26
Speaker
It's not coming from the soul.
00:19:28
Speaker
It can feel forced.
00:19:30
Speaker
And so the most important thing is to really find that authentic expression of your own unique ritual and intention to bring through what it is that you're wanting to bring through.
00:19:40
Speaker
And it might be something as simple as peace.
00:19:46
Speaker
That's a very powerful intention to call forward.
00:19:49
Speaker
I'm going to light this candle and call in peace.
00:19:54
Speaker
It doesn't have to be some elaborate spell, but really, you know, when we can come into that, that, um, that place, it can open up so much for us in our lives.
00:20:06
Speaker
I love the way that you speak to these rituals with, with a, an openness.
00:20:11
Speaker
You know, I know that I struggle when I'm ever told that, you know, with, with, with an absolute certainty about a crystal, for example, oh, this is going to do this for you or this, you know, oh, oh, you're a Gemini.
00:20:23
Speaker
Well, that explains this.
00:20:24
Speaker
Like any, anything that is kind of like,
00:20:27
Speaker
super absolute, I struggle with it.
00:20:30
Speaker
I'm of the belief that humans are meaning makers.
00:20:34
Speaker
We make meaning out of all sorts of stuff.
00:20:36
Speaker
And because there is not an absolute truth,
00:20:40
Speaker
Don't get too attached to things.
00:20:42
Speaker
If the meaning you're making doesn't serve you, then try to change that meaning.
00:20:46
Speaker
And I think that's part of these rituals and things are a way of like, well, how can I kind of push the meaning in a direction that works for me?
00:20:52
Speaker
It's such a Gemini thing to say.
00:20:58
Speaker
But yes, somebody showed me one time that she had a, she would make her tea in the morning and the mug she would drink it out of was on the mug.
00:21:09
Speaker
It said, I am confident.
00:21:11
Speaker
And then her little like French press kind of crossed you and make it also said, I am confident.
00:21:16
Speaker
And I'm like, so I go, this is how this, so this is how you, you get confident or you bring confidence.
00:21:20
Speaker
She's like, yes, exactly.
00:21:22
Speaker
She's like, I, I drew, I brew my tea with the idea that is, I am a confident person that this helps me to become confident.
00:21:30
Speaker
And so therefore I am, um, like, and you know how this works.
00:21:34
Speaker
How do you know this works?
00:21:35
Speaker
She's like, because I, because I believe it works.
00:21:39
Speaker
And that went on to a conversation about how you have to incorporate
00:21:43
Speaker
our bodies into this, into a practice.
00:21:47
Speaker
You know, like with, you know, when it comes to somatics, like how do we work through this trauma or whatever?
00:21:51
Speaker
You got to get your body moving.
00:21:52
Speaker
It's like, you got to move, you got to move the stagnation that can potentially exist within the body.
00:21:58
Speaker
And when it comes to creating, you know, magic or tapping into that, you want to get your body involved, whether it's something that you are drinking, eating, that is prepared with intention.
00:22:08
Speaker
Scents are a huge thing, like oil diffusers, like, oh yeah, whenever I want to like,
00:22:14
Speaker
create something or focus something, I'll just put some blue Lotus oil into my oil diffuser.
00:22:18
Speaker
And then it just fills my house with this Lotus oil.
00:22:20
Speaker
And then it allows me to focus and go into the thing.
00:22:22
Speaker
It's like, Oh, okay, this is happening because I associate the scent with this happening and therefore it happens.
00:22:29
Speaker
You know, I've, I've experimented with this.
00:22:31
Speaker
it's kind of wild how fast it actually it actually works and it works because again it comes back to the belief that's um it's like all right it's it really can be that simple um there's a friend that we all have uh he goes you know he's known as the wizard i guess you'd say and
00:22:50
Speaker
He talked about how, yes, we can do these rituals and they're effective and they're powerful.
00:22:55
Speaker
He's like, but you can get to a point where you essentially just kind of wave your hand.
00:23:00
Speaker
And like, if you want a sandwich, you just kind of wave your hand and then a sandwich, you know, comes your way.
00:23:05
Speaker
And moments after he said that, his wife just comes in and is like, who wants a sandwich?
00:23:09
Speaker
And he just looks at me and he's like,
00:23:14
Speaker
It doesn't have to be hard.
00:23:16
Speaker
It's not rocket science.
00:23:18
Speaker
It is as difficult or as easy as you want it to be.
00:23:21
Speaker
And it was like, okay.
00:23:23
Speaker
Just like kind of seeing stuff like an action.
00:23:28
Speaker
Seeing is believing, certainly.
00:23:30
Speaker
And everyone has access to that.
00:23:34
Speaker
You don't have to be a wizard.
Magic in Modern Culture
00:23:39
Speaker
It helps to have the Gandalf kind of, you know,
00:23:42
Speaker
robe and the staff and the hat certainly not necessarily magical tools yeah you know and i actually i'm so glad you brought that forward because over the last little while of my life last decade or so i have met many real wizards like embodied wizards some wear the hat some carry the staff some just wear nike and adidas
00:24:06
Speaker
you know, and are cloaked in the human form, but are true wizards.
00:24:11
Speaker
And when I say true wizards, what I mean by that is people that are embodied in the essence of their creation and know how to alchemize and know how to use specific tools to elicit different outcomes and
00:24:29
Speaker
You know, I got to meet this wizard that was in Canada who has an apothecary and he has all kinds of different herbs and tinctures and they do different things.
00:24:40
Speaker
And it's a really beautiful gift that he has cultivated.
00:24:44
Speaker
You know, I know a lot of real witches, you know, they're like women that are embodied in their abilities to be able to interact with the unseen realms.
00:24:57
Speaker
And be able to weave that kind of magic into their daily lives.
00:25:00
Speaker
And I love it so much because, you know, there was a time not that long ago that people were embodying these archetypes and it was not safe.
00:25:10
Speaker
You know, there was a lot of people that were killed for being so outward in their expression of magic.
00:25:17
Speaker
And now it feels there's more and more people that are coming out and saying, I am a witch.
00:25:24
Speaker
I am an elven wizard.
00:25:27
Speaker
I have a friend, I think we all might know too, that he's the elven wizard and he's creating a business around his archetype of being a wizard, you know, and it's way more acceptable.
00:25:35
Speaker
And it's so beautiful because it is, what I see is also bringing some ancient practices, ancient tools and traditions from paganism and from some different
00:25:47
Speaker
systems to be able to live in the most beautiful way.
00:25:52
Speaker
There's some really beautiful gifts that that style brings.
00:25:57
Speaker
It stretches me to hear about that.
00:25:59
Speaker
It's definitely a stretch, but I love this practice because I keep going back to, you know, when you witness an example of the sandwich appearing, it's like, oh, okay, wait, no, there is a possibility beyond what my brain wants to say is possible.
00:26:15
Speaker
And for me, I keep going back to
00:26:20
Speaker
Plyamagic, the fact that things, when I'm at Burning Man and there's all these people who are kind of surrendering to the possibility of magic happening, it seems to happen in a legitimate, almost measurable way.
00:26:33
Speaker
And so if there's a human who is embodying a wizardry in that kind of intensity, it makes sense to me that they could summon the same kind of magic in their life.
00:26:44
Speaker
And the other two things I think about a lot are placebo and hypnosis.
00:26:49
Speaker
We're like, even at the most core scientific provable way,
00:26:55
Speaker
thoughts do change reality.
00:26:58
Speaker
You know, it is absolutely like biologically things change based on the, the, what someone is believing.
00:27:06
Speaker
And so to, to limit our own belief of this mystical, this magical seems to be like, and it seems like you're scientifically cutting yourself off from that stuff.
Belief, Placebo, and Magic
00:27:19
Speaker
Yeah, it's, yeah, the placebo thing is real.
00:27:22
Speaker
And just the fact that, you know, science is accepted.
00:27:26
Speaker
Yes, your thoughts and your beliefs can affect physical outcomes.
00:27:31
Speaker
Like that's a real thing.
00:27:32
Speaker
And that has been proven.
00:27:34
Speaker
And so we can, so that's true in this realm.
00:27:39
Speaker
There's no reason it can't be true, like spread, like spread out into the world.
00:27:43
Speaker
Like if, like, if I believe that,
00:27:46
Speaker
certain things are possible when it comes to my life, my living situation, I absolutely can influence that.
00:27:51
Speaker
That's been proven.
00:27:52
Speaker
So it's just the only, and it comes to,
00:27:56
Speaker
The only limits are the ones we self-impose on us.
00:27:59
Speaker
They're the ones that people try to heap on us that we accept as being true.
00:28:04
Speaker
And like you said before, Halcyon, the young mind, anything's possible.
00:28:09
Speaker
That's why it's so easy to play make-believe as a four-year-old because it's all possible.
00:28:13
Speaker
But then the older we get, the more stuff gets imposed on us.
00:28:17
Speaker
Our mind gets these grooves placed into it.
00:28:21
Speaker
And then certain ways of thinking are kind of fixated in us.
00:28:24
Speaker
And then we kind of lose that.
00:28:27
Speaker
So, uh, it's, you know, challenging to bring that back certainly, but it's not impossible.
00:28:33
Speaker
I love that you said that because I hear that quite often with a lot of my clients that I work with, whether it's like through body work or some of the energy work that I do, um, you know, this concept, I feel like I lost the magic.
00:28:48
Speaker
And that's like, you know, getting kind of swept up into the hamster wheel of this, of
00:28:53
Speaker
this reality in a way and kind of forgetting that we are in this really beautiful, magical existence and that life can be magic, right?
00:29:05
Speaker
It's the mundane that can kind of cloud our vision to see beyond the veil of illusion and
00:29:14
Speaker
is a continuous practice, right?
00:29:16
Speaker
And kind of remembering on a regular basis.
00:29:20
Speaker
I have this concept of remembering and forgetting, remembering and forgetting.
00:29:25
Speaker
I'm remembering this incredible magical existence that I live in and I get to play in and there's so much beauty and possibility and synchronicity and all kinds of amazing things that are happening in our world.
00:29:40
Speaker
And then sometimes...
00:29:42
Speaker
getting swept up into the like frustrations and the density of what's happening and the pain.
00:29:47
Speaker
And it's very real.
00:29:49
Speaker
But it can also get sometimes paralyzing and it can cloud the vision.
00:29:55
Speaker
And I'm sure we've probably all had conversations with somebody who is deep in the thick of depression, right?
00:30:01
Speaker
Maybe we've been there ourselves, right?
00:30:03
Speaker
To have a moment of going like, I can't see beyond, you know, just outside of my own personal little cloud right here.
00:30:11
Speaker
Like magic is so far out of my reality right now.
00:30:14
Speaker
How do I get it back?
00:30:17
Speaker
There is this feeling of like, I know it's there, but I can't access it.
00:30:21
Speaker
And that comes back to from what I love to do and teach is everyday intention, everyday ritual, really continuing with the consistency.
00:30:32
Speaker
Even when things are challenging, finding a way to look for the gratitude, finding a way to see something that's beautiful.
00:30:39
Speaker
Maybe it's just one flower that you pause to look at that can help pop you out of that, that place of density.
00:30:46
Speaker
And then let that be like the first rung,
Sharing and Kindness as Magic
00:30:49
Speaker
you know, on the ladder back up, up the spiral of inspiration and back into the magic.
00:30:55
Speaker
And, you know, an old saying, not an old saying, but something that somebody told me once is like, when you are needing something that you are having trouble accessing, you
00:31:07
Speaker
That's your signal to give it to someone else, to put it out, that thing you need, put it out into the world.
00:31:14
Speaker
I could use some support right now.
00:31:16
Speaker
Why am I so unhappy?
00:31:17
Speaker
It's like, well, send a happy note to somebody.
00:31:20
Speaker
And you might be surprised that just gets the ball rolling.
00:31:24
Speaker
And again, it sounds like there's some simple, silly kind of thing, but I've seen it time and time again when I've remembered to do that.
00:31:33
Speaker
And I've been on the receiving end of that.
00:31:35
Speaker
It's like, oh, you know, I'm not feeling too great today.
00:31:38
Speaker
So I thought I would just send you a note saying like, hey, how are you doing?
00:31:40
Speaker
And I'm like, thank you.
00:31:43
Speaker
And then it starts a conversation.
00:31:44
Speaker
Then by the end of the conversation, we're both like lit up and it works.
00:31:48
Speaker
So give that thing you're looking to get.
00:31:50
Speaker
I have a note in my kitchen that says there's magic in every act of kindness.
00:31:57
Speaker
It does have a ripple effect.
00:31:59
Speaker
Kindness is magic.
00:32:01
Speaker
From my perspective, it really is.
00:32:03
Speaker
Because if you offer an extension of kindness to somebody, it can change the duration of their day.
00:32:10
Speaker
It can maybe even shift and impact someone's life.
00:32:13
Speaker
you know, Halcyon, you have probably seen that time and time again with the way that you have been helping the homeless for so many years now, right?
00:32:20
Speaker
These simple acts of kindness, these big acts of kindness make a huge difference and can really create more magic in the world.
00:32:30
Speaker
I want on that idea of like remembering and forgetting.
00:32:32
Speaker
I've been thinking a lot lately about how
00:32:35
Speaker
When I am grounded and spiritually in a place of remembering of like oneness and divinity within and within all is when I'm the least...
00:32:47
Speaker
certain about anything it's when i have the most awareness that my mind is limiting you know and i'm like ah that's possible that is also all is everything is possible because i just i i'm noticing the my human experience the my mind's conclusions are so limiting compared to the deeper remembering and when i am
00:33:10
Speaker
off when I'm forgetting is when I get attached to things and this never happens.
00:33:14
Speaker
This always works.
Letting Go and Trusting the Universe
00:33:15
Speaker
This never, you know, and it's and it's that forgetting space is when I'm closed off to magic is when I'm saying, look, that's that's not the way the groove in my mind.
00:33:24
Speaker
There's that's not a possibility.
00:33:26
Speaker
And so I really think that remembering and forgetting and maybe even the cultivating the remembering or cultivating a mistrust in the mind for me is a way to get greater access to magic.
00:33:42
Speaker
Yeah, I feel like, you know, it's a reframing of the phrase ignorance is bliss.
00:33:48
Speaker
So it's like, it's, and it's true.
00:33:50
Speaker
It's true on the, it's true on the like less than positive sense, but it's also true in the positive sense.
00:33:54
Speaker
It's like, well, yeah, I'm happiest when I don't know every freaking thing.
00:33:58
Speaker
Or I remember that I don't know every freaking thing.
00:34:01
Speaker
It was like, when I feel like I need to know and I need to have my hands around this thing and I need to have my mind around it and so on and so forth, there's not, and everything is fixed.
00:34:10
Speaker
That's a challenging place to be happy in for me at least.
00:34:14
Speaker
And I find that when I'm, when I'm in,
00:34:17
Speaker
Like when I'm in a relationship with my partner, when we are in that space of like kind of trusting that things are going to kind of work themselves out, we can kind of both like, ah, all right.
00:34:30
Speaker
So whatever crunchy space we're in right now, there's a belief that we are going to on the other side of that, we're going to is we're going to get back to where we want to be.
00:34:39
Speaker
And I don't know how we're going to get there.
00:34:40
Speaker
But the belief that we're going to get there is almost enough to just be like, all right, just ride it out.
00:34:45
Speaker
It's going to be fine.
00:34:47
Speaker
It's going to be awesome.
00:34:47
Speaker
And that's and I found that true, like when it comes to my work opportunities and opportunities.
00:34:53
Speaker
Other types, what I don't know how I'm going to get there, I trust and I believe that I'm going to get there.
00:34:58
Speaker
And therefore, I almost 100% of the time do get there.
00:35:02
Speaker
It always works out.
00:35:03
Speaker
It always works out.
00:35:04
Speaker
Yeah, having that deep trust is a huge part of the letting go as well, right?
00:35:09
Speaker
Because in the manifestation process, it's like we're continuously checking in, like, is it here yet?
00:35:16
Speaker
It's not here yet.
00:35:17
Speaker
It's not here yet.
00:35:18
Speaker
It's not letting go, right?
00:35:19
Speaker
But when we can come into that place of trust,
00:35:22
Speaker
that everything is working out in the highest and best way, even in the challenges that I'm experiencing right now.
00:35:28
Speaker
I trust with quiet and calm confidence and the perfect unfolding of all things.
00:35:34
Speaker
Then watch as we let go, the magic reveals itself.
00:35:39
Speaker
And that has been my affirmation.
00:35:40
Speaker
That has been my consistent return to that place of I trust with quiet and calm confidence and the perfect unfolding of all things.
00:35:50
Speaker
And things just continue to work out.
00:35:52
Speaker
It's like guiding light.
00:35:54
Speaker
And, you know, I want to I want to just share one more thing here.
00:35:57
Speaker
I think we're probably getting to a place of like closing sparks.
00:36:01
Speaker
But I'm reminded of insight I got from Burning Man and three, the three of us here have that common thread.
00:36:07
Speaker
We're all burners.
00:36:08
Speaker
And it always it's just wonderful to bring it back to you.
00:36:11
Speaker
The lessons of Burning Man.
00:36:12
Speaker
And it was my second year.
00:36:14
Speaker
I was on my way out there and I had this mindset of, I'm going to go out there and find the magic.
00:36:21
Speaker
I'm going to look for magic.
00:36:24
Speaker
I was like, so kind of naive.
00:36:26
Speaker
I know that I want to, I want to find synchronicity.
00:36:31
Speaker
And I was there for like four or five days and I was like, where is it?
00:36:34
Speaker
Where's the magic?
00:36:38
Speaker
And I started getting so frustrated because I wasn't seeing the magic and I was looking for it.
00:36:44
Speaker
And everyone says that Burning Man is so magical and it's a portal and all this stuff.
00:36:48
Speaker
And then I hit a low point on the playa and I was feeling really just down and alone and something shifted inside of me.
00:36:57
Speaker
I went to the temple and
00:36:59
Speaker
And I had a little moment with myself and something shifted inside of me, a very subtle, subtle shift.
00:37:07
Speaker
And I was able to let go of this need, this grasping onto, needing this magic to show itself.
00:37:14
Speaker
And as I softened around it, then the rest of the night, the rest of the burns,
00:37:19
Speaker
revealed synchronicity after divine meeting, just like profound coincidences.
00:37:25
Speaker
And it was so beautiful.
00:37:27
Speaker
And it was one of the biggest lessons for me around letting go, stop trying to chase the magic, chase the, uh, the synchronicities because that's going to, it's just going to slip right through your hands.
00:37:40
Speaker
You're not going to find it.
00:37:41
Speaker
You have to just trust and allow and stay open to the inspiration to flow.
Applying Playa Magic in Daily Life
00:37:49
Speaker
It strikes me as a, you know, like you were like a fish looking for water in that moment.
00:37:58
Speaker
And it reminds me of my closing spark is also a Burning Man story, but just.
00:38:05
Speaker
Being on the fly my first year and not even really being told anything about the magic that's out there.
00:38:11
Speaker
And so I wasn't necessarily looking for it.
00:38:13
Speaker
But over the course of that first, that week, I was, I would find myself in these crazy synchronistic scenarios of having a belief about, or having a thought about someone and then turning around and they're walking right up to me or just multiple things like this happening to the point that,
00:38:34
Speaker
By like four days into it, I was like, what is happening?
00:38:37
Speaker
What is happening around here?
00:38:38
Speaker
Why is I'm swimming in this like muck of magic that's happening and it's and it's great and I love it.
00:38:46
Speaker
But this is crazy.
00:38:48
Speaker
It's like the people I started inquiring with people.
00:38:50
Speaker
They're like, no, no, that's what that's what's awesome about this place.
00:38:53
Speaker
It's so on and so forth.
00:38:56
Speaker
And it's like full of magic, but the real trick is taking this back into the world, back into the default world.
00:39:02
Speaker
It's easy out here.
00:39:04
Speaker
It's possible out there, but it's hard, but you can do that.
00:39:07
Speaker
And really getting that driven home to me and then
00:39:11
Speaker
meeting people who are putting that magic into practice and what we call the default world where we're at now, um, being like, Oh yeah, there's this, this can be done.
00:39:19
Speaker
This, you know, make the world your playa was the, was the, was the phrase.
00:39:23
Speaker
And I'm been surrounded by people who are doing that or still doing that.
00:39:29
Speaker
And my world has changed as a result.
00:39:31
Speaker
It's like, you know, it's easier, it's easier to,
00:39:35
Speaker
tap into that ever existent magic when you are surrounded by people who are who are doing that and are believing that so like surround yourself with people who are doing the things that you want to do and magic is magic comes pretty easily that way so beautiful environment yep yes
00:39:55
Speaker
So my closing spark is one, an appreciation for you all, you too, and letting me let my skepticism use this opportunity to to to exercise and open up my own kind of confining mind.
00:40:14
Speaker
And that awareness of how much for me magic is about removing the certainty, removing the old stories that don't have room for it.
00:40:26
Speaker
And so to coming back to the experiences at Burning Man or coming back to people that I witnessed have connections or stories.
00:40:35
Speaker
And then in my life, the times when I have
00:40:38
Speaker
been let go of a certain outcome and then been able to notice and be in receive and be aware of an opportunity that I couldn't have seen if I was too attached to my mind story of how it was supposed to be or what was possible.
00:40:57
Speaker
And so there's, there is magic in simply, uh, being open to possibility.
00:41:08
Speaker
Well, I love that all three of us also have a unique expression of our own magic in the world through affirmation, through supplementation, through gratitude, through service, right?
00:41:23
Speaker

00:42:55
Speaker
Float more, steer less is my way of tricking my brain into not being attached to the way I think it's supposed to be.
