00:00:17
Speaker
Hello and welcome to Stay Sparked.
00:00:19
Speaker
We are longtime friends here to share conversations that are aimed to light you up.
00:00:26
Speaker
I'm Betsy Finkelhoo, the creator of the Power Affirmation Journal, somatic body worker, friend to many, dancer, visionary, artist, healer, and love ambassador.
00:00:41
Speaker
I am John Halcyon Stinn.
00:00:43
Speaker
I am the host of the Hug Nation YouTube channel, as well as a podcaster, a bio dad, a romantic partner, a philanthropist, and also a love ambassador.
00:00:55
Speaker
And a lifestyle artist.
00:00:57
Speaker
A lifestyle artist.
00:00:57
Speaker
Lifestyle artist.
00:00:58
Speaker
Me too.
00:00:59
Speaker
Yes.
00:01:00
Speaker
I am a space alchemist also.
00:01:03
Speaker
Yes.

Personal Joys and Fulfillment

00:01:04
Speaker
And so much more.
00:01:04
Speaker
We always love starting with gratitude.
00:01:07
Speaker
And today, my gratitude is for the garden I'm tending to right now.
00:01:14
Speaker
I just planted some flowers, some dahlia, some herbs.
00:01:19
Speaker
It's springtime and the soil is so rich and I got out early today, got my hands in the dirt.
00:01:26
Speaker
And I'm just so grateful to be able to have a beautiful garden to tend and also getting to do it with my love, which is really, really lighting my heart up.

Embracing Multi-Passioned Lifestyles

00:01:38
Speaker
Gardening was my first spirituality.
00:01:41
Speaker
I absolutely, I get so much out of watching things grow and the cycle.
00:01:46
Speaker
Although that is not today's gratitude, although I'm always grateful.
00:01:49
Speaker
My gratitude today is for my brother.
00:01:52
Speaker
I've had a few opportunities in the last week to be funny with him.
00:01:57
Speaker
We did some improv-ing for a video on a green screen that was so fun.
00:02:01
Speaker
And we recorded a new episode of our other podcast, Hard on the 80s, where we
00:02:05
Speaker
I talked about the classic 80 movies, Airplane.
00:02:09
Speaker
And just having someone in my life that is so aligned with my humor and such a just, I just feel so grateful to have a partner in this life that makes me laugh so much.
00:02:24
Speaker
Yay, you're so fun.
00:02:27
Speaker
I'm excited to start us off just going deeper into this conversation about our multifaceted expressions of self, the multi-passioned path, if you will, as you so beautifully stated and shared in a recent post.
00:02:45
Speaker
And so today our conversation is really about that.
00:02:49
Speaker
We are both on this very dynamic path of sharing our gifts with the world.
00:02:57
Speaker
And recently, John Halcyon posted something so beautiful about it.

Lifestyle Artist Identity and Social Media

00:03:03
Speaker
You posted about all the diversity of who you are and reflected so beautifully on it that it actually inspired this conversation.
00:03:12
Speaker
And so I'd love to see if you want to kind of spark us off
00:03:16
Speaker
on where the inspiration came from that post.
00:03:18
Speaker
Maybe tell some of the viewers or listeners about the post and get us started.
00:03:25
Speaker
Sure.
00:03:25
Speaker
Yeah.
00:03:28
Speaker
I mean, I think I look back at my identity over the last 20, 25 years and the way I've been feeling lately and realize that that
00:03:42
Speaker
Years ago, especially when I was fresh into the Burning Man and had been awoken to the idea of radical self-expression and the idea that that art is far more than just painting and sculpture.
00:03:56
Speaker
And in that era of my life, I really woke up to this idea that I'm an artist in everything I do.
00:04:05
Speaker
And I'm going to claim that boldly and say that I am a lifestyle artist.
00:04:08
Speaker
The way I live is my art.
00:04:11
Speaker
And even I had business cards.
00:04:12
Speaker
That's what it said.
00:04:13
Speaker
It said lifestyle artist.
00:04:15
Speaker
And

Balancing Marketing and Authenticity

00:04:16
Speaker
this was, you know, the late 90s, early 2000s.
00:04:18
Speaker
And I was boldly sharing all aspects of my life as if it was, you know, my world was a gallery.
00:04:28
Speaker
And at the time, people considered it to be
00:04:32
Speaker
pretty self-absorbed.
00:04:35
Speaker
You know, like as I was putting online this early Internet, most people were not online and I was sharing my life and my interests and my whatever's going on in my head and photos of me.
00:04:45
Speaker
And the pretty much universal response was, whoa, dude, you are full of yourself.
00:04:53
Speaker
And so it was this bold artistic statement like, well, I am celebrating my life as art.
00:04:59
Speaker
And then, you know, over the next chapter of our world, it became universal.
00:05:06
Speaker
Everybody was sharing their life.
00:05:07
Speaker
Everybody was sharing aspects of it.
00:05:09
Speaker
And so my identity as a lifestyle artist kind of, it felt less strong.
00:05:16
Speaker
It felt less like it was something that I was doing boldly and more that it was always
00:05:21
Speaker
what it meant to be alive and connected in a social media world.
00:05:26
Speaker
And then as social media became, you know, kind of commonplace and a part of really professional needs, like if you're a professional, you kind of have to start sharing aspects of your life and to be competitive and get attention and everyone's not fighting for eyeballs.

Career Path Diversity and Burnout Prevention

00:05:41
Speaker
And and so this this old feeling I had of follow your muse and and be the art and live creatively, it started to get all those pressures of a marketing based commercial world.
00:05:56
Speaker
And so the sharing of your life and your art
00:06:00
Speaker
it started to get constrained in a way of like, do it correctly, get the most views, maximize your business.
00:06:09
Speaker
And I started to feel without really realizing it that I was failing.
00:06:15
Speaker
I was doing a poor job.
00:06:16
Speaker
I was not dedicating myself well enough to a specific branded business.
00:06:24
Speaker
avenue of marketing to succeed in this new world.
00:06:29
Speaker
And so kind of remembering how it started and remembering that, wait a minute, maybe the goal is not to figure out what product to sell, but maybe the goal is to follow the muse and go back to being a lifestyle artist.
00:06:44
Speaker
And so maybe I'm not failing at marketing.
00:06:48
Speaker
Maybe I'm succeeding at being a lifestyle artist.
00:06:51
Speaker
And that just like, I felt like this massive release inside me, this letting go of judgment to return to the idea of like, oh, maybe just let it happen.
00:07:04
Speaker
Maybe that's the success.
00:07:07
Speaker
Yes, beautiful.
00:07:09
Speaker
And then the box around you starts to dissolve.
00:07:13
Speaker
Right.
00:07:13
Speaker
And there's this more expansive possibility around who you actually are and who you get to be in this world, not to try to fit into a box.
00:07:24
Speaker
Because, yeah, this world that we live in is so many boxes that we put ourselves in.
00:07:29
Speaker
And so, yeah, when you were speaking, I just saw this, like, expansion within your field and the identity of who you are and what you represent is so different than the, you know,
00:07:43
Speaker
typical one type of identity.
00:07:47
Speaker
And so I really celebrate that.
00:07:48
Speaker
And your, your contemplation has really opened and opened up my own personal contemplation around the multi dimensional being that I am as well.
00:07:58
Speaker
And there was quite some time where I thought that I had to fit into a box and
00:08:04
Speaker
And I thought that I had to let my career be only single-pointed focus.
00:08:10
Speaker
Otherwise, I might not be respected.
00:08:13
Speaker
And I really tried to fit into that box.
00:08:18
Speaker
But I actually started to realize that that was setting me up to go towards burnout.
00:08:25
Speaker
Because as my earliest career path is massage therapist, I went to massage school when I was 22, and
00:08:33
Speaker
And I knew going into it that it was not a career that has longevity.
00:08:40
Speaker
Typically, most massage therapists will burn out their bodies after like 15, 20 years of doing it consistently and steadily.
00:08:47
Speaker
And so for me, after about five years of doing it, I started to tune into certain aspects of myself that were not being expressed because I was only putting so much energy into becoming a massage therapist that I missed being an artist.
00:09:02
Speaker
And I realized like, wow, I actually need to have multi paths for my expression.
00:09:09
Speaker
And so that was when I started to make clothing and I became an upcycling artist, cutting up clothes and teaching people how to cut up clothes and just transforming style and really got to become a clothing designer for some time while also doing massage therapy.
00:09:29
Speaker
And those two paths,
00:09:31
Speaker
Together worked really well for me because I was able to have my massage therapy practice balanced out with an artist, an artistic expression.
00:09:41
Speaker
And they both were harmonious, but they were not, they didn't kind of overlap.
00:09:46
Speaker
And that was the first time I started to see like, oh, I can actually do multiple things.
00:09:51
Speaker
And then over the years, I started to consider all these different parts of who I am that wants to be shared and be in service.
00:10:00
Speaker
And so I was writing down all these different things that I am.
00:10:03
Speaker
And a lot of times people don't even really know what I am or who I am.
00:10:07
Speaker
And they might just make up an idea of what they see on social media.

Redefining Success Beyond Financial Gain

00:10:11
Speaker
But I wrote down, I am a virtual teacher.
00:10:14
Speaker
I'm a flow artist.
00:10:16
Speaker
I'm a muse.
00:10:17
Speaker
I'm a burner.
00:10:18
Speaker
I'm an artist of multi-mediums.
00:10:22
Speaker
I'm a healer.
00:10:23
Speaker
I am a space holder.
00:10:25
Speaker
I am a writer.
00:10:26
Speaker
I'm a crystal collector.
00:10:29
Speaker
I am becoming a plant whisperer.
00:10:33
Speaker
I am a friend, first and foremost.
00:10:35
Speaker
That is my dharma.
00:10:36
Speaker
I know that for sure, that even though I don't get paid to be a friend,
00:10:40
Speaker
It is my dharma and my path.
00:10:42
Speaker
And I weave that into everything that I get to do.
00:10:44
Speaker
And it feels really important to be able to honor and accept so many different roles that I play and not try to downplay some of them in order to appease a certain identity for my career path to succeed.
00:11:02
Speaker
Yeah, I think like when you phrase something in terms like it worked out or and I think that it's tempting to get narrow focused on what success is.
00:11:17
Speaker
And, you know, anytime I've gone to to have a life coach or a success based coaching,
00:11:26
Speaker
They look at my interests and all the places I put my attention.
00:11:30
Speaker
You know, I've got a homeless charity.
00:11:32
Speaker
I do live broadcasts.
00:11:34
Speaker
I've got a YouTube channel.
00:11:35
Speaker
I do coaching.
00:11:37
Speaker
And every time they're like, you need to focus.
00:11:42
Speaker
You know, like how do you brand this?
00:11:44
Speaker
How do you?
00:11:45
Speaker
And there's a lot of arguments and you can watch countless Instagram reels from people who will tell you, you know, figure out what your thing is, dedicate your life to it, be better than everybody else at that thing.
00:11:59
Speaker
And that's how you succeed.
00:12:01
Speaker
But I would push back and say, what do you mean by succeed?
00:12:06
Speaker
Like, I would agree with those coaches that I could be making more money than I am currently making if I followed a...

Aligning Values with Career Choices

00:12:16
Speaker
formula that was better for marketing a specific aspect of who I am.
00:12:24
Speaker
But do I think that I would be happier?
00:12:26
Speaker
Do I think I would end my days feeling like I'm a broad, expansive expression of my humanity?
00:12:34
Speaker
Probably not.
00:12:36
Speaker
And that's a pretty costly trade-off.
00:12:39
Speaker
Yes.
00:12:40
Speaker
Yeah, huge.
00:12:42
Speaker
I love this concept of success.
00:12:45
Speaker
What is success?
00:12:47
Speaker
Because for me, I also had a huge breakthrough around my perception of it when, as I mentioned, I was a clothing designer for almost 10 years.
00:12:57
Speaker
And my back then, my idea of success was kind of like just keep going bigger and wider and scaling and making more money and just, you know, getting my clothes and boutiques all over the world and being on magazines.
00:13:13
Speaker
And I thought that that was what you're supposed to do in order to succeed.
00:13:17
Speaker
But I got to a point on my journey that it was time to scale to the next phase.
00:13:24
Speaker
And I realized that scaling was going to compromise some of my values in my business and in my work and in my artistry.
00:13:31
Speaker
And I chose to pause.
00:13:34
Speaker
And in that process, it took me almost two years to sort of unwind my journey.
00:13:41
Speaker
the path or kind of like stop doing what I was doing.
00:13:44
Speaker
It took me quite some time because I was so integrated in it.
00:13:48
Speaker
And my idea of the success was sort of like, man, I don't, I guess I haven't succeeded or I'm sort of failing because I'm giving up or, you know, I could go bigger, but really on a deep cellular level, I could feel that it was just not aligned and that the
00:14:05
Speaker
The path going forward of bigger, better, more was just, it created constriction within me.
00:14:12
Speaker
And then once I finally was able to get to this place of accepting that, no, this is actually the most important thing that I can do, I actually started to see the success that I created in that time.
00:14:24
Speaker
And now I look back and I go, wow.
00:14:27
Speaker
I got to make clothes for a living in Southern California in a time where, you know, eco fashion was just booming and the Burning Man culture was thriving.
00:14:38
Speaker
I made so many people like just feel so excited about their clothing in the festival world.
00:14:45
Speaker
And a lot of that stuff is still out in the world.
00:14:47
Speaker
And so my definition of success has drastically changed.
00:14:53
Speaker
And I'm so grateful because if I would have just tried to
00:14:56
Speaker
hush because I'm like trying to succeed or stick with that thing.
00:15:02
Speaker
Just like, as you said, the coaches say, just, just keep sticking at it.
00:15:06
Speaker
But I'm not going to do that if it's going to compromise my happiness.
00:15:09
Speaker
And since then, I've been able to actually find all these other ways to express my art and my, my passion and my service to the world in a different facet.
00:15:22
Speaker
Hmm.
00:15:22
Speaker
I'll just pause there.
00:15:24
Speaker
There's a lot.
00:15:27
Speaker
The definition of success and even the kind of, as I said it earlier about like I could have made more money, I realized that even that has a story attached to it and a narrative that isn't even true.
00:15:41
Speaker
Like I...
00:15:44
Speaker
I chose early in my career to choose freedom over maximizing my income.
00:15:52
Speaker
But in doing that, I got to pursue avenues and got known to be a certain type of creative person.
00:16:00
Speaker
that I was then recruited to be brought in as a co-founder of a startup that was well funded and ended up being by far the most money I've ever made was because I was an outside the box doing my own thing person.
00:16:16
Speaker
And there's no way I would have had that opportunity if I would have been trying to follow the script that was I was told was the most lucrative.
00:16:26
Speaker
Now, I could never have strategized that.
00:16:29
Speaker
So it's a hard way to like, I'm not given a game plan, but my experience has been that pursuing a personal fulfillment of
00:16:41
Speaker
creates a, a, a value that is really attractive and valuable to others.
00:16:49
Speaker
If they say, how can we bring some of this kind of, uh, beyond the, the bottom line value into a workplace or into a pursuit?
00:17:02
Speaker
Yeah.
00:17:03
Speaker
There was another thing that, that I remember, uh,
00:17:07
Speaker
I remember seeing a video from the author of Rich Dad, Poor Dad, and he was talking about some experience with evicting some people in order to maximize his funds.
00:17:22
Speaker
And in the video, he was laughing.
00:17:26
Speaker
at how pathetic these people were that he was evicting and their excuses and their story and how sad it was.
00:17:34
Speaker
But he wasn't saying, oh, poor them.
00:17:36
Speaker
He was like laughing that they thought that he could appeal, they could appeal to his heartstrings.
00:17:40
Speaker
And I remember just like my jaw kind of dropping and being like, wow, this is being presented and people are watching this as an example of how to succeed.
00:17:51
Speaker
And this feels like a spiritual poverty that I would never want for myself or anyone I care about.
00:18:00
Speaker
But like redefining like what success is, I think is really important.
00:18:06
Speaker
Huge.
00:18:06
Speaker
And I feel like I keep hearing over and over and over again, these stories of these people that are having these huge spiritual awakenings or aha moments, realizations that they, you know, this basically the hero's journey where they're on this path.

Hero's Journey and True Success

00:18:27
Speaker
to climb the corporate ladder, to make as much money as possible.
00:18:31
Speaker
And then they get to the top and then they realize they're actually really unhappy, even though they have all this money, but they're in this life that just is not fulfilling.
00:18:39
Speaker
And then they have some kind of big breakthrough or they like hit, they hit their down point where they're like, you know, in the, in the lower part of the hero's journey circle.
00:18:49
Speaker
And then they have some kind of big insight and realization and aha and see that this is not the way.
00:18:55
Speaker
I have heard this story over and over and over again of so many people that are recognizing that it's not about just trying to get to the top.
00:19:05
Speaker
It is really about how do we cultivate happiness every day?
00:19:09
Speaker
How do we make the most out of each moment?
00:19:12
Speaker
You know, how do we get to find what our unique offering is in the world and get to share it and find a pathway to do that that can actually generate income?
00:19:24
Speaker
Isn't that like the dream?
00:19:26
Speaker
Right.
00:19:27
Speaker
It is such a beautiful quest to be on and to be in the curiosity of.
00:19:32
Speaker
And sometimes some people do find that one thing.
00:19:36
Speaker
And so I really want to honor those people that do find their passion that are like driving at home, bringing it through, really cultivated, committed.
00:19:46
Speaker
And it's like this analogy I heard one time on an article.
00:19:50
Speaker
Forgive me, I can't quote the person.
00:19:53
Speaker
It was so long ago.
00:19:54
Speaker
But the analogy is a woodpecker versus the hummingbird.
00:20:00
Speaker
And there's people that are like the woodpecker that stay so committed and they just find that one thing and they just peck away at it and they make their life and their living and everything committed to that.
00:20:14
Speaker
And then there's people that are more like hummingbirds and they go around and they pollinate different flowers and they're moving around and they're exploring different pathways of their purpose.
00:20:28
Speaker
They're sharing their gifts in a multitude of ways.
00:20:31
Speaker
When I read that, I felt my whole nervous system just soften.
00:20:37
Speaker
And I was able to just go like, oh, I can actually be a hummingbird.
00:20:42
Speaker
I don't have to try to be something else.
00:20:45
Speaker
I don't have to be the woodpecker.
00:20:46
Speaker
You know, bless the woodpeckers and the people that are doing that, you know.
00:20:50
Speaker
And also to give some breath and some room to be able to accept the people that are more like hummingbirds.
00:21:00
Speaker
Yeah, I remember vividly in high school, I was dating a woman and
00:21:08
Speaker
was picking her up one time and ended up being in a conversation with her mom.
00:21:12
Speaker
And her mom compared me to her brother, who was a, at one point he'd been a concert pianist, and then he was a painter, and then he was a hitchhiker around the country.

Role Models and Creative Exploration

00:21:24
Speaker
And she described this person who followed their passions with this reverence and awe of this beautiful way of living.
00:21:34
Speaker
And I'd never heard that person
00:21:38
Speaker
path with anything but a description of flaky, you know, kind of immature.
00:21:46
Speaker
And so to hear, to want to be compared to it and to reframe it as a legitimate and maybe beautiful way to live was really impacted the rest of my life.
00:21:59
Speaker
I'm like, oh, it's not, doesn't necessarily mean I'm failing if I'm not
00:22:06
Speaker
on a linear progressive path of ladder climbing, you know?
00:22:11
Speaker
Mm-hmm.
00:22:16
Speaker
I'm feeling our former co-host, Janus, and how he would pop in with a quote.
00:22:22
Speaker
He was so good at that.
00:22:23
Speaker
And so I actually have a quote.
00:22:27
Speaker
Emily Wapnick, I just looked this up.
00:22:29
Speaker
Multi-passionate people aren't scattered.
00:22:32
Speaker
They are woven.
00:22:36
Speaker
And then Elizabeth Gilbert says, don't feel bad for being someone who is into a lot of things.
00:22:41
Speaker
The world needs people who are fascinated by everything.
00:22:47
Speaker
Yeah, I mean, really, like the meaning of life, if you can if you can find yourself fascinated by as many things as possible, that sounds like winning.
00:22:58
Speaker
Yeah, I know.
00:23:01
Speaker
I know.
00:23:01
Speaker
And I think it really does take a willingness to stay curious and to try on different things to really go beyond what you think you're able to do.
00:23:14
Speaker
And we've talked about this before around perception of self.
00:23:17
Speaker
You know, oh, I'm not a good artist, you know, or I'm not a dancer or I can't write.
00:23:25
Speaker
Or, you know, I'm not, I'm not this.
00:23:27
Speaker
So I just am going to put myself in that box and, and just live that way.
00:23:32
Speaker
But when we can break through that, and start to stay curious, you never know what might come out.
00:23:39
Speaker
You know, and I've heard of some of these older people in their 80s becoming novelist.
00:23:45
Speaker
in their 80s.
00:23:47
Speaker
You just never know the next phase of who you might become.
00:23:52
Speaker
And it has to come from that place of staying curious and be willing to try something different.
00:23:58
Speaker
And then this kind of comes back to one of our last episodes around using art as a way to transform and to heal.
00:24:06
Speaker
But to try on something different and new to help to unlock
00:24:13
Speaker
The, if there's a stuckness, I have found is so powerful.
00:24:18
Speaker
You know, there was a time in my life where I really did feel stuck.
00:24:23
Speaker
I wasn't sure which way to go.
00:24:24
Speaker
I could feel something wasn't working.
00:24:27
Speaker
I was a little like...
00:24:28
Speaker
just anxious about what was happening in my life.
00:24:31
Speaker
And I just, I didn't know what the next phase of my life was.
00:24:35
Speaker
I could feel something was needing to change.
00:24:38
Speaker
And that was kind of like what I had talked about that time where I was ending my career of being a
00:24:44
Speaker
clothing designer and stepping into this next part of becoming an event producer and an author.
00:24:51
Speaker
And there's a lot of different things that came through there.
00:24:54
Speaker
But to try on being an emcee was something I had never done.
00:25:01
Speaker
So I started going to some speaker trainings and
00:25:06
Speaker
I never thought about being a speaker, but something was like, you gotta just shake it up and do something different.
00:25:13
Speaker
So I started doing these speaker trainings like Toastmasters and public speaking training, and it helped unlock something for me that I couldn't see before that.
00:25:24
Speaker
And it took that courage and it took that willingness to just kind of go like, okay, what is the next phase of my creative expression?
00:25:33
Speaker
What is the next part of my life journey and my work in the world?
00:25:38
Speaker
And how can I continue to share the unique gifts that I have and that are yet to be discovered with the world in a way that is going to make a positive difference?
00:25:50
Speaker
And then that's what led me to the next part of my offering, which was a three year running community speaker series event, which was just amazing.
00:25:58
Speaker
And you were a part of it at certain times.
00:26:01
Speaker
And yeah, I feel like it was such an important thing for me to get to experience.
00:26:08
Speaker
I've realized that lately some of my powerful teachers in this practice have been children.
00:26:19
Speaker
My bio son, Asher, who's six, and then I spent yesterday with a friend's daughter who's three.

Curiosity and Authenticity in Self-Identity

00:26:27
Speaker
And noticing when my mind so quickly fell into a path of what was supposed to happen,
00:26:37
Speaker
You know, and and and watching them have real clarity on the way that things are going to happen, whether that was, you know, taking water from this pitcher and pouring into this glass and my narrative going, it's going to spill, it's going to make a mess.
00:26:52
Speaker
I mean, like, what if I what if I just follow this thing?
00:26:57
Speaker
What if I clean it up when we're done?
00:26:59
Speaker
What if I just like let go of all these voices in my head that think they know the way the story is supposed to happen?
00:27:07
Speaker
And it's been really a powerful awareness of how quickly I get attached to an outcome, which then limits me on what's possible.
00:27:24
Speaker
Yes, children are the best teachers.
00:27:26
Speaker
They can bring up all the things that we need to see.
00:27:30
Speaker
And they're really amazing at being able to not be good at something and still do it.
00:27:35
Speaker
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
00:27:37
Speaker
You know, like how often do you see a little kid under seven that is like, I'm not a good artist.
00:27:44
Speaker
I don't want to color.
00:27:45
Speaker
Yeah.
00:27:46
Speaker
They just color, you know, they just do it because it's like inherent.
00:27:51
Speaker
And how many adults do we know?
00:27:53
Speaker
They're like, oh, I can't color.
00:27:54
Speaker
I'm not a good artist.
00:27:56
Speaker
I'm not going to draw.
00:27:58
Speaker
But it's like, how do we let that childlike spirit
00:28:01
Speaker
That place of innocence and knowing that whatever we're going to do doesn't have to be perfect.
00:28:07
Speaker
And that fear of failure is just non-existent for the most part.
00:28:12
Speaker
I mean, with most children, they're just going to like, they're going to climb on the highest part of the playground because they're not thinking like, oh God, what if I fall?
00:28:22
Speaker
And I probably shouldn't do it because I got to, you know, they just do it.
00:28:27
Speaker
Mm-hmm.
00:28:29
Speaker
Yeah, there's I this is bringing me full circle to the idea of being a lifestyle artist and social media.
00:28:39
Speaker
And I think what I realized is that.
00:28:44
Speaker
I struggle to find examples of people online who are simply living inspiring lives.
00:28:53
Speaker
You know, there's plenty of people who are packaging the, you know, rephrased lessons of Tony Robbins or, you know, they're kind of quoting things and, well, like it's packaging perspectives.
00:29:12
Speaker
But the person who is simply living their best life and sharing their parenting, sharing their creativity, not because they're the best painter in the world, but because they're like, like, I painted today.
00:29:28
Speaker
I feel like that's the role modeling.
00:29:30
Speaker
Those are the...
00:29:32
Speaker
That's what I was, I hoped that social media would, I want influencers that are excited like children, people who are just demonstrating these multi-passioned lives.
00:29:45
Speaker
And so if that's you, please share your Instagram handle with us.

Listener Interaction and Multi-Passionate Expression

00:29:51
Speaker
And if you follow people, let us know.
00:29:52
Speaker
I do want to steer my attention to people who are role modeling that.
00:29:59
Speaker
Mm-hmm.
00:30:00
Speaker
You are.
00:30:02
Speaker
Just saying.
00:30:03
Speaker
Just saying.
00:30:03
Speaker
And that's part of this whole thing of like, I really went from a shift of being like, I'm not doing a good job of being an influencer like I could have been.
00:30:11
Speaker
You know, like I was well positioned to be like, no, no, no, no.
00:30:15
Speaker
I'm not failing at what I was told I should do.
00:30:19
Speaker
I'm succeeding at what I've always wanted to do.
00:30:22
Speaker
You know, I'm being what...
00:30:26
Speaker
I this is what I want.
00:30:28
Speaker
So be that in the world.
00:30:29
Speaker
Like, cool.
00:30:30
Speaker
That actually feels much better than than feel like I'm failing.
00:30:34
Speaker
Yeah, absolutely.
00:30:36
Speaker
Yeah.
00:30:36
Speaker
There's something really powerful about being able to see each day is success.
00:30:42
Speaker
And to release some of that pressure around that idea of just, I could do more, more, more, get, get, get, you know, to really actually look at your life and where you're at right now, where we're at right now, what a blessing it is to be in our, our prime, you know, this wonderful age, this time that we're in on the planet to be able to actually have the privileges that we do.
00:31:09
Speaker
What a gift.
00:31:10
Speaker
Yeah.
00:31:11
Speaker
What a gift.
00:31:12
Speaker
And to recognize the privileges that we have to be able to express ourselves and to get to explore these different pathways of our passions and purpose.
00:31:23
Speaker
It truly is privilege.
00:31:25
Speaker
And to not take that for granted.
00:31:27
Speaker
And I feel like when we...
00:31:29
Speaker
are hard on ourselves or when we are saying we should do more or we're not doing enough or all of these negative thought loops, then that actually is not even recognizing the privilege that we have.
00:31:42
Speaker
And to be in that kind of place of reverence is very powerful.
00:31:49
Speaker
Yeah, I feel like this is returning to some of the core practices and beliefs of my life, of gratitude and that our minds are so hardwired through evolution to be critical, to focus on what's not working.
00:32:06
Speaker
And so that finding a way to practice appreciation, gratitude, recognizing the privilege of your choices and your freedoms and your
00:32:15
Speaker
your creativity and celebrating all of it as opposed to trying to figure out what parts of it are not enough.
00:32:23
Speaker
You know, it's like, oh, it's the exact.
00:32:26
Speaker
That's like I spend time every morning trying to remember.
00:32:32
Speaker
Who I want to be like the kind of person I want to be, because if I can.
00:32:37
Speaker
can lead a day as someone who is kind, patient, and connecting, then at the end of the day, I don't have to make an evaluation like, did I do enough?
00:32:49
Speaker
It's not about what I did.
00:32:50
Speaker
It's about who I was.
00:32:52
Speaker
So if I can be that person, even if my day is not traditionally impactful in the world, it doesn't matter.
00:32:59
Speaker
I'm still going to be
00:33:01
Speaker
that person.
00:33:03
Speaker
And so like, and I think that's what gives the freedom to then follow these multi-passion places.
00:33:09
Speaker
Like it's, my goal is not to make a painting that sells for a million dollars.
00:33:15
Speaker
My goal is to be someone who is authentic and, and listens to their muse and is kind.
00:33:22
Speaker
Well, in that case, I might end up the day with a painting.
00:33:28
Speaker
And that's the win.
00:33:30
Speaker
Yes.
00:33:32
Speaker
And you know what?
00:33:33
Speaker
Not everyone will resonate with the way that we do life.
00:33:36
Speaker
And that's okay.
00:33:37
Speaker
And the hope is that for those of you listening out there, do resonate with this and do...

Balancing Passions with Authenticity

00:33:45
Speaker
actively work towards living your best life in these simple ways of just being in the acceptance of who you are and who we are every day.
00:33:56
Speaker
And so, yeah, we love hearing from you guys out there.
00:33:59
Speaker
Just kind of like plant another little seed.
00:34:01
Speaker
It's really, really beautiful to receive messages from people out there who have been listening to this podcast, as this is one of our multi-passioned expressions.
00:34:11
Speaker
The Stay Sparked podcast is really a part of our unique
00:34:15
Speaker
offerings in the world we are here simply in service to spread those sparks and the the reciprocity that we get is messages from you guys out there so if you're if you resonate with this and you're like fuck yes or even if you have a contrasting belief or anything else feel free to let us know you can get on the stay sparked instagram
00:34:39
Speaker
You can also get on email and send us an email.
00:34:42
Speaker
Love, always love hearing from you out there from where this is landing for you and how this is an experience of your own life and how you are a multi-passionate person.
00:34:54
Speaker
You know, I realize as you're speaking that, that I think that this project is a demonstration of what we're talking about.
00:35:01
Speaker
You know, we do not we do not have a a goal.
00:35:06
Speaker
We don't have metrics of downloads or revenue like our goal and which we realign to before every broadcast is to try to.
00:35:17
Speaker
channel wisdom to try to facilitate sparks, to try to allow ourselves to speak things that will connect people.
00:35:29
Speaker
And so, yeah, a single message of really appreciated what you guys said or
00:35:37
Speaker
I think you guys missed this point.
00:35:39
Speaker
It's kind of that's that's the equivalent of of of a startup going public for us.
00:35:46
Speaker
Like, yeah, it works.
00:35:47
Speaker
Yeah, totally.
00:35:49
Speaker
Yeah.
00:35:49
Speaker
And, you know, I think that this you're right.
00:35:51
Speaker
You know, there is this sort of interwoven consideration around the why.
00:36:00
Speaker
And I know for me, this is from the heart.
00:36:04
Speaker
This is an offering from the heart.
00:36:07
Speaker
And we're not trying to get something.
00:36:10
Speaker
And oftentimes these days, there's just so many advertisements and people trying to sell you things and
00:36:17
Speaker
And I love being able to just like let the wellspring come through, let the inspiration that I feel so blessed to have access to and the wellspring of what comes through our conversation to get to share it is such a gift.
00:36:32
Speaker
So, yes, thank you all for listening out there.
00:36:35
Speaker
And I think we probably wrap it up with some closing sparks on that note.
00:36:40
Speaker
Sounds good.
00:36:41
Speaker
You got a closing spark for us?
00:36:43
Speaker
Let's see.
00:36:43
Speaker
Around the multi-passioned path.
00:36:46
Speaker
I think something that you said recently that kind of sparked me, which is, you know, whether this is your path or not, or whether you know somebody who has a path that is hard for you to accept or you realize you're passing judgment, this is really a process of embracing authenticity and embracing whatever comes through us.
00:37:12
Speaker
And I think that the more that we can
00:37:16
Speaker
be aware of the constrictions that we put on our inspiration, the more we can try to relieve it and the more that we become a channel of energy, of collective unconscious, of divinity, whatever you believe in.
00:37:33
Speaker
I think that you access something bigger than yourself when you're
00:37:39
Speaker
as you as you remove the whatever it is that is constricting that flow and and part of that constriction is the judgment this is not the way it should happen or this is not productive or this is not uh financially wise it's like well what what if i let go of that and just let it through what what could happen and and i think that that that authenticity
00:38:01
Speaker
is a level of success that is, I think, more important than anything else.
00:38:11
Speaker
Yes.
00:38:12
Speaker
So good.
00:38:13
Speaker
Yeah.
00:38:13
Speaker
I get this vision of a cork, like pulling out the cork.
00:38:18
Speaker
Like how do we suppress inspiration and then like release it?
00:38:23
Speaker
You know, I think that that is such a powerful thing to be able to check in with ourselves when we don't do something that is fueling some inspiration or passion because we think that we should.

Conclusion and Affirmations of Diverse Roles

00:38:36
Speaker
be something else or I shouldn't do something that is actually going to bring me joy because I'm not an artist, for example.
00:38:45
Speaker
You know, I think that there's something really powerful about that.
00:38:48
Speaker
Of course, having mindfulness around how we balance our work play and everything that we do, but allowing inspiration to flow through each day is so vital for a
00:39:03
Speaker
good life, in my opinion.
00:39:05
Speaker
And so yeah, I think that's my closing spark is to allow those little bubbles of inspiration to come through whether or not as an aligned to making money or your career or what you're supposed to do.
00:39:21
Speaker
But the inspiration can fuel so much.
00:39:25
Speaker
Yeah.
00:39:26
Speaker
Well, I although it's not the intention of this broadcast, there's a possibility that the things that you and I do might have benefits to others.
00:39:38
Speaker
And there are things that we do for commercial reasons.
00:39:40
Speaker
So what are some of the ways that people can find you and some of the ways that you are available for people?
00:39:46
Speaker
Yeah, well, this is a big part of where I get to work with people.
00:39:51
Speaker
I love working with people one-on-one in person and virtually.
00:39:56
Speaker
I do also groups where I help people to unstuck themselves and really mind, body, spirit.
00:40:03
Speaker
So physically, I love working with people doing somatic body work, cranial sacral energy work.
00:40:09
Speaker
And then I do a lot of mindset work with the power affirmation journal and inspiration cards and
00:40:15
Speaker
helping people to reprogram and limiting beliefs or those places that we get stuck.
00:40:20
Speaker
And really, my joy is getting to help people to live their best lives and to kind of hold up a mirror and reflect back to people where they're able to see their own selves.
00:40:32
Speaker
And so you can find my work on poweraffirmation.com.
00:40:36
Speaker
That is where my tools for transformation are.
00:40:39
Speaker
And then there's a variety of other insights into me with my artistry.
00:40:45
Speaker
I love building earth mandalas.
00:40:47
Speaker
I lead intentional clothing exchanges, women's circles,
00:40:53
Speaker
ceremony work, space alchemy, I transform spaces.
00:40:56
Speaker
So I do a lot and you can see a lot of that on my website.
00:41:01
Speaker
So feel free to check it out there and the link is in the show notes.
00:41:06
Speaker
Incredible.
00:41:07
Speaker
What a gift you are to the world.
00:41:09
Speaker
Oh, thank you.
00:41:11
Speaker
You know, I sometimes struggle with how I describe, you know, my offerings.
00:41:17
Speaker
You know, because as I said, like my experience with light coaches, for example, has...
00:41:23
Speaker
That's not what I provide to people.
00:41:25
Speaker
I'm not helping people to figure out how to maximize their revenue or make their business succeed.
00:41:31
Speaker
But I do really enjoy helping people figure out what matters to them and listen to their authenticity and to
00:41:41
Speaker
find a sustainable joy in simply being who you really are.
00:41:47
Speaker
And so I like to help people with that through a number of ways, most of which you can find on lifestudent.com.
00:41:53
Speaker
I do want to mention that if you are curious in how a lifestyle artist shows up in the world, follow me on Instagram or my YouTube channel.
00:42:04
Speaker
My newsletter will give you updates.
00:42:06
Speaker
And
00:42:07
Speaker
This June 8th in San Diego, I am hosting a full day men's group that I'm really excited about.
00:42:15
Speaker
Did one recently in Santa Barbara.
00:42:16
Speaker
I can do one in San Diego June 8th.
00:42:18
Speaker
So let me know if you or someone you love might benefit from dropping in with strong, gentle, masculine seekers.
00:42:31
Speaker
And it's been really beneficial to me and I welcome the others in that path.
00:42:37
Speaker
Amazing.
00:42:38
Speaker
So needed.
00:42:39
Speaker
So powerful.
00:42:40
Speaker
Love that you're doing that.
00:42:43
Speaker
Well, in the spirit of our closing, love to close us out with an affirmation that is inspired by today's conversation.
00:42:52
Speaker
Yes.
00:42:52
Speaker
Please.
00:42:53
Speaker
All right.
00:42:54
Speaker
So I would love to invite us to center ourselves in whatever way feels good.
00:43:02
Speaker
Just breathing into your heart.
00:43:04
Speaker
Yeah.
00:43:08
Speaker
and just internally or out loud affirming that I love and accept the multifaceted being that I am.
00:43:17
Speaker
I love and accept the multifaceted being that I am.
00:43:22
Speaker
I love and accept the multifaceted being that I am.
00:43:28
Speaker
I am a multi-
00:43:29
Speaker
passioned person.
00:43:31
Speaker
I am a multi-passioned person.
00:43:35
Speaker
I am a multi-passioned person.
00:43:39
Speaker
And then lastly, I feel inspired to just continue to affirm.
00:43:44
Speaker
And you can change it however you want, but I am a healer.
00:43:47
Speaker
I am an artist.
00:43:48
Speaker
I am a visionary.
00:43:49
Speaker
I'm a teacher.
00:43:52
Speaker
I'm a light.
00:43:53
Speaker
I'm a lighthouse.
00:43:55
Speaker
I'm a friend.
00:43:56
Speaker
I am successful.
00:43:58
Speaker
I am embodied.
00:43:59
Speaker
I'm a dancer.
00:44:01
Speaker
I'm a muse.
00:44:02
Speaker
Keep going in your own mind, in your own way, affirming all of the roles that you are.
00:44:10
Speaker
I am.
00:44:11
Speaker
I am.
00:44:12
Speaker
I am.
00:44:13
Speaker
I am.
00:44:14
Speaker
I am a love ambassador.
00:44:16
Speaker
I am radiant.
00:44:19
Speaker
I am radiant.
00:44:21
Speaker
I am alive.
00:44:22
Speaker
I'm so grateful.
00:44:23
Speaker
Thank you so much for this conversation, John Halcyon.
00:44:27
Speaker
Thank you all for listening.
00:44:28
Speaker
I love you so much.
00:44:31
Speaker
