What are the stories about money that affect our lives?  How can we make sure our actions are in the directions of our dreams...and double check that our dreams are our own? How can we get off the hamster wheel and make sure we aren't just working to live and living to work? And is it possible to listen to your muse *while* you listen to your landlord?

Expressions of Gratitude

00:02:14
Speaker
And on that note of gratitude, we'd love to start off with our personal gratitudes.
00:02:19
Speaker
So how about you, Halcyon?
00:02:21
Speaker
What are you grateful for today?
00:02:24
Speaker
Today I'm feeling grateful for my garden.
00:02:27
Speaker
It is small, but it is mighty.
00:02:29
Speaker
I harvested a whole bunch of tomatoes and had a Caprese salad with my own tomatoes and just stuffed myself.
00:02:36
Speaker
And it was just this glorious reminder of where food comes from, where energy comes from.
00:02:42
Speaker
I just love that kind of like knowing that
00:02:44
Speaker
The sun has been feeding energy to these plants, and then I get to take that energy into my body.
00:02:49
Speaker
And so just grateful for being a part of that gardening cycle and my very productive tomatoes.

Childhood Influences on Money Beliefs

00:02:58
Speaker
Nice.
00:02:58
Speaker
Nice.
00:02:59
Speaker
The, uh, yeah, our, our garden, uh, equally the tomatoes are popping right now.
00:03:05
Speaker
And there is, there's really nothing like eating, eating something that you have grown.
00:03:10
Speaker
Um, it's just the way that nurtures is, uh, it's like nothing else.
00:03:14
Speaker
So I appreciate that as well.
00:03:17
Speaker
So, uh, my gratitude is getting back into, uh, exercising, working out, um, made it to the gym this morning already.
00:03:26
Speaker
And that was great.
00:03:27
Speaker
And,
00:03:28
Speaker
uh first time in a couple weeks just because i've been so busy with life you know life gets in the way sometimes and but i was feeling feeling feeling good over those two weeks but even like once i got moving in the gym this morning i was like yes i was missing this so um so yeah it feels good to move the body around so great grateful for gratitude and grateful for gratitude gratitude for exercise i have gratitude for moving my body around
00:03:52
Speaker
Mm hmm.
00:03:54
Speaker
Yes.
00:03:54
Speaker
Get those endorphins going oxytocin flowing.
00:03:57
Speaker
I will also share my gratitude.
00:04:00
Speaker
You sparked me.
00:04:01
Speaker
Halcyon.
00:04:01
Speaker
Our garden is going off right now, too.
00:04:04
Speaker
And I'll share specifically what I'm most grateful for is the monarchs coming.
00:04:09
Speaker
They were a little late this year, but we have tons of milkweed in our garden.
00:04:13
Speaker
And I was traveling for a couple weeks.
00:04:15
Speaker
I came back and there was like 15 big fat caterpillars on the milkweed.
00:04:21
Speaker
And now we have a few chrysalis and we've got butterflies flying all around the garden.
00:04:25
Speaker
And it's just bring so much joy.
00:04:28
Speaker
I love watching the process of the monarchs.
00:04:30
Speaker
So that is my big gratitude today.
00:04:32
Speaker
Nice.
00:04:33
Speaker
And it feels like abundance, right?
00:04:35
Speaker
Abundance is here.
00:04:36
Speaker
We're in the summertime.
00:04:38
Speaker
It's the abundance of tomatoes, abundance of monarchs, right?
00:04:41
Speaker
There's just this lushness of this time.
00:04:43
Speaker
And that is actually the perfect segue into our conversation today.
00:04:48
Speaker
So we are going to talk about money.
00:04:51
Speaker
prosperity, abundance, and how it relates to our lives.
00:04:56
Speaker
And in this conversation, we decided to start off by going back a little into our own personal journeys with money and where we have been sort of conditioned or programmed because we all
00:05:09
Speaker
you know, learn about money through our parents and through different ways.
00:05:13
Speaker
And so love to just start us off with a question.
00:05:17
Speaker
So are you guys aware of belief systems that you were were taught when you were young about money?
00:05:26
Speaker
And how has that really impacted your life?
00:05:30
Speaker
Yeah, I do.
00:05:34
Speaker
And
00:05:35
Speaker
I'll try to give the cliff notes version of this, but it definitely impacted my belief system for a long time.
00:05:41
Speaker
And I didn't unpack it until honestly in my mid thirties.
00:05:44
Speaker
But I remember as a four-year-old going to my cousin's house with the family.
00:05:50
Speaker
And right before we left to come home, my two cousins, one of the cousins, he gave me a handful of coins of change that probably totaled about a couple of dollars maybe, and told me that this is a secret.
00:06:04
Speaker
Don't tell anybody.
00:06:05
Speaker
And so I was like, okay.
00:06:07
Speaker
And he's like older.
00:06:08
Speaker
He's like 10.
00:06:09
Speaker
So I put it in my pocket and I get home and I get home and I get this jingling like coins in my pocket.
00:06:14
Speaker
My parents are like, what is in your pocket?
00:06:16
Speaker
And I'm like, no, it's a secret.
00:06:18
Speaker
I can't tell you.
00:06:19
Speaker
And so like, open up.
00:06:23
Speaker
So I hand it over and they're like, where did you get this?
00:06:25
Speaker
I'm like, oh, cousin gave it to me.
00:06:27
Speaker
And so they call him up and they were like, did you give this money to him?
00:06:32
Speaker
Oh, because his sister was missing money.
00:06:34
Speaker
now like she's missing a bunch of coins in her on her desk uh did you give this to him no i didn't give him anything i don't know so so now i'm a thief and a liar about this and then i'm like four years old i've never i have no idea what money is about so this instilled in me that if i have money i need to get rid of it as fast as possible or i'm going to get in trouble
00:06:59
Speaker
Whoa.
00:07:00
Speaker
And so this manifested.
00:07:02
Speaker
So whenever I would make money, I had to spend it.
00:07:05
Speaker
I had to get rid of it somehow.
00:07:06
Speaker
I couldn't save it.
00:07:07
Speaker
I couldn't put it someplace.
00:07:08
Speaker
I had to, I couldn't hold onto it for very long because I was going to get in trouble if I didn't get rid of it soon.
00:07:15
Speaker
I didn't unpack that whole piece until like my mid thirties and finally was like, oh my God, that's why I can't save any money.
00:07:23
Speaker
Oh my God.
00:07:23
Speaker
And there's times where I made like significant amounts of money.
00:07:27
Speaker
And I should have had it.
00:07:28
Speaker
It should have reflected in my bank account a lot more than it did.
00:07:30
Speaker
And so finally, I was like, wow, OK, I need to work that piece so that I can start to actually hold on to some of this abundance that is coming my way.
00:07:41
Speaker
So, yeah, that was an early, you know,
00:07:45
Speaker
Oh, man, kind of a programming pattern that a wild.
00:07:49
Speaker
Yeah, that was amazing that you can see that too, that you could go back into your journey because I mean, did it take you a long time to realize that that one particular moment on your timeline impacted you?
00:08:03
Speaker
No, that's, that's what ayahuasca does for you.
00:08:07
Speaker
It kind of, it kind of, sometimes it just hits you like a wet fish across the face.
00:08:12
Speaker
And I'm like, this is why, oh, it's like, oh, and then you see it all at once.
00:08:17
Speaker
And you're like, oh my God.

Disentangling Money and Love

00:08:19
Speaker
There it is.
00:08:19
Speaker
Wow.
00:08:20
Speaker
So powerful.
00:08:22
Speaker
Wow.
00:08:22
Speaker
Well, I was never a part of a child crime ring, but I did have an experience where I was, I was, I remember being in Toys R Us and wanting to get the Death Star Star Wars action figure set and, you know,
00:08:40
Speaker
my mom explaining to me how long it would take with my allowance and it was just so frustrating to me that i couldn't have this thing that i wanted but i'm actually really grateful in some ways for this idea like okay if you want something you need to save to get it um but so i i've always been really hesitant to spend money i don't have because i need to to
00:09:05
Speaker
uh and i've never been able to buy things on credit like i've never bought a new car i've never um i really have to i've had to train myself now to to fight against the need to save save save because i recognize now as an adult there are times when you need to invest in yourself or you need to spend money that you you is a yeah investment in yourself in one way or the other and that's that has been hard for me because of childhood issues of scarcity and
00:09:34
Speaker
you know, save for a rainy day kind of feelings.
00:09:39
Speaker
Yeah, you know, it's so interesting in this reflection around, you know, what was my relationship with money?
00:09:45
Speaker
And kind of what you're speaking to is like, I don't really remember having a conversation with my parents about money.
00:09:52
Speaker
There sure as hell were not any classes about money, you know, growing up, whether that's even, you know, seven to 10 to 15 to, you know, 18 through high school, no classes.
00:10:05
Speaker
And so, yeah, the teachings around money were never really present.
00:10:09
Speaker
So I just got to witness how money was used in my family.
00:10:14
Speaker
And so my parents were divorced and so they had very different relationships with money.
00:10:19
Speaker
And I just basically watched what they were doing, right?
00:10:22
Speaker
That's what kids do, right?
00:10:23
Speaker
We're like sponges and we just like, just check everything out and learn by what's being role modeled to us.
00:10:30
Speaker
And so I got to see some patterns that my mom was exhibiting
00:10:34
Speaker
that I took on for quite some time and over many years now after I've been doing some growth work, could see the pattern.
00:10:42
Speaker
But she really modeled to me work hard to make just enough.
00:10:46
Speaker
She was a single mom of three of us and there wasn't a whole lot of support.
00:10:51
Speaker
And so she just worked her little butt off to be able to make ends meet.
00:10:56
Speaker
And she did great.
00:10:57
Speaker
She always had just enough, but very rarely did she have an overflow.
00:11:03
Speaker
And so I was really in that experience for quite some time, you know, always just piecemealing together all of my finances to make my rent, to have just enough, you know, those moments where I was like, oh gosh, my rent is coming.
00:11:16
Speaker
I hope I can make it.
00:11:17
Speaker
And then sure enough, then like right at the last minute, then I would get a check or client or whatever.
00:11:23
Speaker
And I got to see, wow, my mom, she did that for a long time.
00:11:26
Speaker
Always just had just enough.
00:11:28
Speaker
She never went under zero.
00:11:29
Speaker
Yeah.
00:11:30
Speaker
but she was really worked her little booty off to get to a place of just getting by.
00:11:36
Speaker
And so it was like that work hard to have just enough was that the programming or the patterning that I picked up, that was part of it.
00:11:44
Speaker
And then also another piece that
00:11:47
Speaker
my dad gave me um which i've been getting to work through too is that since he was the weekend dad bless him and his his um love was coming through money and so he kind of would model if i give my daughters money then they'll know that i love them you know or exuberant displays of things you know he would take us to like
00:12:11
Speaker
Fancy places to go shopping and whatnot, you know, and he would get instead of giving me just a couple dollars for some spending money, he would give me like a 20.
00:12:19
Speaker
And it was like, Oh, 20, you know, as a kid, that's a lot of money.
00:12:25
Speaker
And so I was like, okay, here's some money.
00:12:28
Speaker
This means love.
00:12:30
Speaker
Right.
00:12:30
Speaker
And so I've been getting to unwind that programming, especially in my interpersonal relationships with men.
00:12:37
Speaker
And it's been very insightful to go back and look at where that comes from and shift it.
00:12:41
Speaker
you
00:12:42
Speaker
Hmm.
00:12:43
Speaker
Nice.
00:12:44
Speaker
Nice.
00:12:44
Speaker
So what are the, the, the benefits of shifting, of shifting that I think are, are immediately obvious, but also a little bit more subtle as well.
00:12:55
Speaker
Like, you know, for you, Betsy, I would imagine, you know, kind of unwinding that relationship with money based from a male figure in your life.
00:13:05
Speaker
That's very easily, you know, our relationships with our parents are our relationships with, you know, other adults in the, um,
00:13:12
Speaker
uh as adults so having that you know being you know being a woman who's been being you know showered with gifts or money and then kind of equal oh this person loves me because that's what this means and then having to kind of unpack that unwind that and kind of repattern that for yourself how do you how do you go about that or how did you go about that was that a quick process is that an ongoing process for you um
00:13:40
Speaker
It's been a very long process.
00:13:42
Speaker
I mean, the awareness is a really big part of it because I was in a relationship where that was happening, where this man was just showering me and it was so fun and so exuberant and wonderful and all of this, you know, gifts and money and displays of affection and all of that.
00:14:01
Speaker
I was like, wow, this is amazing.
00:14:03
Speaker
He loves me.
00:14:05
Speaker
And then we started getting deeper and there was something underneath it for him.
00:14:09
Speaker
So he actually had his own process around like his relationship with money and the feminine.
00:14:15
Speaker
We were playing off of each other's kind of programming.
00:14:18
Speaker
And so thankfully, we both were willing to do some counseling and some deeper therapies and
00:14:26
Speaker
And not knowing fully that as we were going into the therapies that that would be the piece that revealed itself, but we were able to see how we were exhibiting these patterns.
00:14:37
Speaker
And so once we started to see it, especially for me, once I started to see that he was playing the perfect role to show me what my relationship to the masculine and money was, was really very insightful.
00:14:51
Speaker
And also coming back to what you shared around your ayahuasca,
00:14:56
Speaker
Thankfully, I also had an opportunity to really go deeper into it in my own journey with the plant medicine and meditation and really uncovering some of the deeper layers of it.
00:15:09
Speaker
And then sure enough, as I started to unwind some of it, I could see it more clearly even beyond my own
00:15:15
Speaker
my own father, but into the lineage started to show me so much more.
00:15:22
Speaker
And so, yeah, it's definitely been a process.
00:15:25
Speaker
There's been certain moments where I have huge breakthroughs and revelations, and then certain moments where it's just subtle, small breakthroughs along the way.
00:15:34
Speaker
And one of the things that has been very helpful is the integration.
00:15:38
Speaker
Because once we start to see the program in there, it's one thing to be able to see it, but it's another to shift it.
00:15:45
Speaker
Right.
00:15:45
Speaker
And so like the affirmation work, for example, the journaling work, the just the repatterning, right, the subconscious shifting.
00:15:56
Speaker
And so it's like money does not equal love.
00:16:00
Speaker
Like I could see, oh, money, money equals love was the belief that I held.
00:16:04
Speaker
And so to be able to go, okay, no, love, love is love.
00:16:09
Speaker
Love comes in many forms and finding different ways to be able to speak to myself about it.
00:16:17
Speaker
Yeah, I think you're so right about the the the awareness of it is step one.
00:16:22
Speaker
And the journey of healing those or re patterning is can be indefinite.
00:16:29
Speaker
I mean, I know that, you know, I fell into a real money is evil attitude when I was like in college.
00:16:37
Speaker
And then when I got into the Burning Man community and feeling like gifting, gifting, gifting, and that charging for things and asking for money was a way to make things dirty and make things less pure.
00:16:48
Speaker
And there was a period of time when I was involved with a project that I really believed in.
00:16:53
Speaker
It was a webcam community.
00:16:55
Speaker
It was, I thought it was going to change the world.
00:16:57
Speaker
It's where the Hug Nation that I still do was born in this webcam community.
00:17:00
Speaker
And, and
00:17:02
Speaker
We needed funding, you know, and I was doing all sorts of things.
00:17:05
Speaker
Like I lived in a webcam house and the people watched me shower so that I could get reduced rent so that I could take a less of a salary so I could make this project work.
00:17:13
Speaker
But all the while I had this attitude that money is evil, you know, and that I was really energetically repelling any money because people who get that money are part of the problem.
00:17:27
Speaker
And

Aligning Passion with Service

00:17:28
Speaker
it wasn't until that project failed and I had a new job and that new boss kind of very patiently listened to my idealism about capitalism and then explained to me, well, can I propose that
00:17:44
Speaker
Capitalism is simply a communication system.
00:17:47
Speaker
It's a way that the system can communicate what we want more of.
00:17:51
Speaker
If there is a organic fruit stand and it's packed, then the system knows we should have more organic fruit stands.
00:18:00
Speaker
And so it's simply a communication tool.
00:18:02
Speaker
So if you are providing something of value and people are going to give you money for it, you're telling the world more of this, more of this, more of this.
00:18:10
Speaker
And that is it is this really beautiful system of communication.
00:18:13
Speaker
Now, that's outside of the corruption of our system.
00:18:15
Speaker
But the awareness of the possibility of money being a communication system and being an energetic flow totally was like this aha moment.
00:18:24
Speaker
And then it's, you know, 30 years later, I'm still trying to integrate all that because those are deep things in me, super deep.
00:18:35
Speaker
Yeah, it's, um,
00:18:38
Speaker
It's interesting having to unpack those beliefs and then when you get that down, like, okay, in order for me to attract more of this money, I need to be of service.
00:18:53
Speaker
The service needs to be something that is wanted, that is desired, that is valued by society.
00:19:02
Speaker
It's, you know, there's, and, and that goes along with people who want to, you know, they have a passion, you know, whether it's for music or writing or art or whatever, and then perhaps, oh, perhaps this passion can support me, I can be of service and provide this art.
00:19:17
Speaker
And then so many of us, we undergo that journey.
00:19:22
Speaker
And then all of a sudden that passion goes wanting because we're not doing it for the sake of doing it anymore.
00:19:27
Speaker
We're doing it because we need to be supported.
00:19:29
Speaker
So that's a big piece.
00:19:31
Speaker
I think a lot of us, perhaps us three and a lot of people in our extended community have had a process with people that kind of fall out
00:19:41
Speaker
I guess I fall outside of the traditional like nine to five cubicle jaws, which is, but there's nothing wrong with that.
00:19:48
Speaker
Um, but I've always approached that as there's nothing wrong with it as long as you approach it as a means to an end.
00:19:54
Speaker
Like if I'm doing this thing in order to acquire this money so that I can then serve my passion, that to me always felt a better way to go about it as opposed to trying to make money through my passion.
00:20:06
Speaker
Um,
00:20:07
Speaker
I'm happy to, you know, I was happy back in the day to flip burgers or to stack boxes at a warehouse or whatever, as long as that freed me up and allowed me, you know, the financial support so that I can then do this other thing that I wanted so that I didn't have to do this thing that I wanted to support myself and then lose the passion for that thing.
00:20:25
Speaker
I've kind of done that a couple of times, but for me, I've gotten to the point now where I'm able to look at the jobby job as it means to an end so that I can kind of be happy in this other realm of my life.
00:20:37
Speaker
Yeah, I absolutely relate to that because I went through that as well and got to have direct experience with making my passion my profession and then getting to a certain point that I was starting to feel burnt out by it.
00:20:51
Speaker
And it actually became sort of vampiric because...
00:20:55
Speaker
I had to do the thing in order to survive.
00:21:00
Speaker
I was needing my clients to fill something for me rather than me giving something to my clients.
00:21:07
Speaker
I'm really grateful for those moments.
00:21:09
Speaker
I'll give an example.
00:21:11
Speaker
I was a clothing designer for many years and I was enjoying it.
00:21:16
Speaker
I was traveling the world, going to festivals and doing custom projects and having so much fun.
00:21:22
Speaker
And that became my main source of income for some time.
00:21:24
Speaker
And there was a very specific moment where I was in my sewing room and I was kind of like going through some of my inventory.
00:21:32
Speaker
And I, I was, I noticed my heart just droop.
00:21:37
Speaker
it was just feeling like oh this sort of like just low sadness and i was counting like okay i need to make this many pieces in order to make this much money so how am i going to sell this many pieces i need to get some more customs i was like kind of grasping for something out there rather than just
00:21:58
Speaker
Allowing the creativity to just burst forth from my being like it had in the past.
00:22:05
Speaker
And I saw that moment I needed to make a change.
00:22:08
Speaker
I needed to shift.
00:22:09
Speaker
I needed more balance.
00:22:11
Speaker
And thankfully, I have another passion.
00:22:15
Speaker
that is with body work and healing work.
00:22:17
Speaker
And so I got to shift gears and I started to do more body work and healing work at the time, started to balance some things out.
00:22:25
Speaker
And then I stopped the clothing and then sure enough, it happened again when I made the,
00:22:31
Speaker
massage and healing work my main source of income, I got to a point again that was like, wow, I am, and this was also kind of going back on what I shared around the making just enough.
00:22:45
Speaker
This was some years ago around like, okay, I have to have this many clients,
00:22:48
Speaker
in order to be able to make my rent, in order to do the budgeting for what my lifestyle is.
00:22:54
Speaker
And I saw it loud and it was just so bright.
00:22:56
Speaker
And I was like, no, this is not the way.
00:22:59
Speaker
This is not how I want to serve.
00:23:01
Speaker
And so I have been really getting to find different ways to be able to express my
00:23:07
Speaker
love for the healing work that I do for the artistry that I offer for developing new products with the power affirmation journal is a big part of that too it's new expressions and also holding that vision for more balanced a flow of my offering so that way it's not just reliant upon one to be able to help me to live the life that I want to live
00:23:31
Speaker
That's really well said.
00:23:32
Speaker
I mean, a lot of one of the most frequent questions or requests I have from people that are seeking guidance is, you know, I want to how do I make a living doing what I love?
00:23:44
Speaker
You know, how do I you know, I love making these wire wrapped jewelry.
00:23:47
Speaker
How do I I want to do that for a living?
00:23:50
Speaker
And I always caution people not to, you know, certainly for the reasons that you're talking about, Betsy, which is it is very difficult to listen to the muse and your landlord at the same time.
00:24:02
Speaker
You know,
00:24:05
Speaker
If you, if you, it's difficult to listen to the landlord and the muse at the same time.
00:24:10
Speaker
If you are, if your creative expression is what is also paying your bills, then you get distorted and like you go, say you're a painter, you go to a, a street art thing and you've got your wares out and the person next to you is selling tons of landscapes and you're looking at your, you know, abstracts and they're just not selling like, fuck, I do a few landscapes.
00:24:31
Speaker
I can really get some money in and this wouldn't be such a stressful month.
00:24:34
Speaker
boom, you are now out of the flow.

Building a Sustainable Personal Brand

00:24:37
Speaker
I think Quincy Jones had a quote, like, when money enters the room, God leaves.
00:24:41
Speaker
So it's a really challenging place because
00:24:45
Speaker
I always used to use like the Beastie Boys as my dream example.
00:24:48
Speaker
Like, you know, get to a place where you could, whatever you create, there's people that they're just, will want to buy whatever you make.
00:24:54
Speaker
But you know, that's the dream.
00:24:56
Speaker
The other, you know, until you were the Beastie Boys, find a balance so that you can have the freedom to create without any care what the landlord thinks.
00:25:08
Speaker
And I think that's the dream.
00:25:11
Speaker
Yeah.
00:25:12
Speaker
Well, I think you've touched on something that I think is valuable for some people, a lot of people.
00:25:19
Speaker
It may not apply to everybody, but there's something to be said for creating your own brand.
00:25:26
Speaker
And then people are coming to you because of you, not necessarily what you're doing.
00:25:35
Speaker
And then because, you know, you know, johnston.com or, you know, that, that means a lot of things.
00:25:40
Speaker
It's hug nation.
00:25:40
Speaker
It means gratitude.
00:25:41
Speaker
It means first Saturdays.
00:25:43
Speaker
It means, it means a lot of, it means a lot of different things.
00:25:45
Speaker
So you've got a lot of energy coming to you from different directions, but it's all coming to you because you're, you know, I don't mean it's, I mean, it's in a cynical way, but like you're the product, like you're the, you're the, you're the, you're the draw.
00:26:00
Speaker
And I think what Betsy and I have done differently is that
00:26:05
Speaker
Betsy's done a little bit of what you've done, but you also have a, with the power affirmations, that is a template that people can apply to a lot of different ways.
00:26:16
Speaker
So you have a lot of different energy coming to you from a lot of different areas who are using this template to build their dreams, to build what they want.
00:26:24
Speaker
That is a constant flow of like,
00:26:26
Speaker
energy and support and motivation coming to you.
00:26:29
Speaker
I would imagine that's been keeping you inspired.
00:26:32
Speaker
I like, I don't see, I don't see you coming to a heart dropping place with that.
00:26:36
Speaker
And it's like, Oh, I got to do this.
00:26:37
Speaker
I got to put more gratitude books out there.
00:26:39
Speaker
It's like, no, it's just, it's just constant because it's so much good mojo and energy that people are using to build their own dreams and their own lives.
00:26:46
Speaker
That's gotta be, I gotta imagine that as a constantly billing kind of thing.
00:26:50
Speaker
It's going to support you for a long time.
00:26:52
Speaker
And personally with my business,
00:26:55
Speaker
having a product that's helping a lot of different people with, um, things like focus and memory and attention and dealing with symptoms of ADHD, PTSD, as it turns out, like dementia and Alzheimer's and MS, and it's anything neurological.
00:27:08
Speaker
Like I'm hearing the feedback I'm getting is fantastic.
00:27:11
Speaker
That allows me, that inspires me to get up there and keep making capsules and keep doing, keep putting energy into it because so many different people from so many different walks of life are using it, uh,
00:27:23
Speaker
to support them.
00:27:24
Speaker
And so for me to be in support of this massive population keeps me going.
00:27:29
Speaker
My heart is not going to droop in that place anytime soon.
00:27:34
Speaker
And so that I think are two, these are two valuable ways to approach the whole thing about, okay, how can I be supported or how can I support myself in this life by supporting other people with my passion?
00:27:46
Speaker
When, you know, Halcyon is the draw.
00:27:49
Speaker
Get a lot of good mojo there.
00:27:50
Speaker
We are building templates that a lot of people can come in.
00:27:53
Speaker
So these are two different ways to approach the same thing.
00:27:56
Speaker
And I think there's a lot of value in that.
00:27:59
Speaker
yes absolutely sparks are flying yes i feel um so many things coming up for me around this one is that what you said around um being in ex or let me see allowing our unique gifts to be expressed and always changing and finding different ways to be able to share what our passion is in the world in a way that can be uh supportive to our lifestyle
00:28:25
Speaker
And so the question that I like to ask myself on a regular basis is, how can I share my unique gifts with the world today in a way that is prosperous, that is impactful, that is fun, that is joyful, that is sustainable?
00:28:41
Speaker
How can I share my unique gifts or how can I serve people?
00:28:45
Speaker
humanity in a way that is prosperous, impactful, joyful, fun, playful, inspiring, sustainable, right?
00:28:52
Speaker
And just staying open to what, you know, every day brings.
00:28:56
Speaker
And sometimes that might be a really profound situation
00:29:00
Speaker
three-day retreat that I lead for somebody that is like deep transformation and also prosperously rewarding me, you know, and that's so fulfilling.
00:29:09
Speaker
And sometimes it might be another way to be able to show up and help somebody, you know, put on an event, you know, maybe that's volunteering, you know, there's, there's a lot of different ways to be able to express our unique gifts in the world.
00:29:22
Speaker
And so that is a question is like an affirmation,
00:29:27
Speaker
right?
00:29:27
Speaker
It's not a statement, but it is a more of a curiosity.
00:29:31
Speaker
And then the affirmation statement of it would be, I am sharing my gifts with the world in a way that is prosperous and then affirming and confirming when money comes in, right?
00:29:42
Speaker
If somebody gives you a check or a client comes in, celebrating it from that place of affirming, yes, like my affirmations are true, vibing it even higher, right?
00:29:53
Speaker
right it's like okay that is a message to the universe that yes it's true and then we get more of it right and so that's like a really powerful practice to be in to celebrate oh i'm sharing my gifts with the world in a way that's prosperous
00:30:10
Speaker
I love that.
00:30:11
Speaker
And I think there's also like your, your, these are beautiful examples in your kind of entrepreneurial path, but I think it's also something that in any, if you're in an office, that mentality is still really helpful.
00:30:23
Speaker
I think people often fall into the, the, the thought process of like, what,
00:30:28
Speaker
what hole do I need to fill in this organization?
00:30:31
Speaker
Like what is the job description that I need to be?
00:30:35
Speaker
And the success that I've had and I've seen a lot of people have is when you bring your fullness and get in a situation where like, these are the ways that I can really bring value to this project, to the company.
00:30:50
Speaker
a manager with any real vision is going to say, let's harness this uniqueness.
00:30:57
Speaker
Ideally, you want someone to create a job position for you.
00:31:01
Speaker
They want you to see who you are and go, you know what?
00:31:04
Speaker
Yes, we do need a chief wisdom officer.
00:31:06
Speaker
Oh, we do need someone to do that.
00:31:07
Speaker
Or let's try you like, because...
00:31:11
Speaker
when you're an entrepreneur you're you're chasing your passion when you're working for a company you're working for money often so if you can convince someone that you will harness my passion if you let me do this this and this that is the route to kind of get your a little bit of that you know muse energy into your your your regular job
00:31:33
Speaker
Awesome.
00:31:33
Speaker
Well said.
00:31:35
Speaker
Yeah.
00:31:35
Speaker
And I feel it's on that, on that note, it's important to, to take note of like, if you, you've got your goals and we should all have our goals, we should all be aware of what our goals are and okay.
00:31:49
Speaker
So how do we go about making that?
00:31:51
Speaker
Um,
00:31:52
Speaker
It's important to make sure that you are doing something that is going to help you achieve your goals.

Aligning Actions with Dreams

00:31:58
Speaker
It's super easy to get kind of caught up in, you know, that whole, that whole rat race, um, before, like, um, I back in my personal, when my fitness training days, um,
00:32:09
Speaker
I got myself this, I wanted a fancy car, so I got a fancy car.
00:32:14
Speaker
The problem very quickly turned out to be that I couldn't, the only place I could really afford to drive the car was to work because I had to pay for this car, which is the only thing I could, you know,
00:32:25
Speaker
only place I could drive was to work because I had to go to work to pay for this car.
00:32:29
Speaker
And I could only drive that car to go to work because I had to pay for this car.
00:32:32
Speaker
It's like this, it's like this constant feedback loops.
00:32:35
Speaker
Like, wow, this is like, this is a, what did I do to myself?
00:32:38
Speaker
I just kind of locked myself into this, you know, a hamster wheel.
00:32:43
Speaker
And it's important to kind of look around and be like, okay, so what, where am I at?
00:32:47
Speaker
And where do I want to be?
00:32:48
Speaker
Like a lot of times, you know, if, if I'm content with like,
00:32:54
Speaker
say renting a room in a house, or if I'm content renting an apartment, then I'm not going to necessarily need
00:33:03
Speaker
$200,000 a year.
00:33:04
Speaker
So I could, so that, that opens up my possibilities for what I, what I, what I'm looking to do in life for money.
00:33:12
Speaker
However, if my goal is like, okay, I want to, I want to own my own house or I want to own land or I want to buy an Island or whatever.
00:33:20
Speaker
It's like, okay, I'm going to need to, that's going to narrow what I'm going to,
00:33:25
Speaker
be focusing on doing here.
00:33:26
Speaker
So it's important to make sure our actions are aligned with our dreams, which is, you think would be easier?
00:33:34
Speaker
Oh, yeah, I can do that.
00:33:34
Speaker
That's easier said than done.
00:33:36
Speaker
It is not easier said than done.
00:33:37
Speaker
It's super easy to fall into that hamster wheel where you're like, you've got big dreams, but you're not, your actions are not
00:33:46
Speaker
aligned with that.
00:33:47
Speaker
You're not doing the thing that's going to bring those dreams to you.
00:33:50
Speaker
So it's important to really kind of sit down and identify what your goals are, what sparks you, what gets you motivated, what gets you fired up to get out of bed.
00:33:59
Speaker
And now, okay, what do I need to do

Identifying Subconscious Money Beliefs

00:34:01
Speaker
to get there?
00:34:01
Speaker
This is an important process for all of us when it comes to what we're going to do for money in this world.
00:34:08
Speaker
Yeah, I love that.
00:34:09
Speaker
And it also is really powerful to reflect on what are the beliefs that are in there about money, right?
00:34:17
Speaker
If we are clarifying the goals, but we don't know what the beliefs are.
00:34:22
Speaker
about money or about our relationship to abundance or work or prosperity, then they're going to express themselves subconsciously, kind of like what you were sharing around this like deep thing around like if money comes in, then I have to get rid of it right away.
00:34:38
Speaker
So if you're setting a goal and you're still holding that belief system in a deep subconscious unconscious way, then it's going to be very difficult to reach that goal.
00:34:46
Speaker
right and so even just checking in what what are the beliefs that i hold about money where where are my um where are the things that i need to shift in order to be able to reach this next level of my prosperity thinking my prosperity in my bank account is there any blocks getting in the way of me really living the life that i want to live or the any blocks that might be there to um reach my goals right how can i make those internal shifts
00:35:16
Speaker
So that way I can watch the outer world shift around me.
00:35:20
Speaker
So that awareness piece, right?
00:35:22
Speaker
And doing it in a way that feels really good, right?
00:35:24
Speaker
Because some, like we said, we had help with plant medicine, but also there's so many other ways to be able to go deeper inside oneself, whether it's through therapy or EMDR or meditations or journaling and so many different ways to uncover what's underneath the surface.
00:35:43
Speaker
And I think that that can be
00:35:45
Speaker
such a catalyst to evolution.
00:35:48
Speaker
Yeah.
00:35:48
Speaker
And there's, there's so many books available.
00:35:50
Speaker
There's so many online courses, YouTube videos, this, this, there's free information out there to help you kind of get your mind around, around that.
00:35:59
Speaker
And what you're speaking to, Desi, is it's important.
00:36:02
Speaker
It is step one in this whole process.
00:36:04
Speaker
Like we have to identify what is our mindset, address that, do that deep dive.
00:36:11
Speaker
And that's where all the work, that's where all the other stuff flows from, but you gotta like, gotta figure out, figure yourself out.
00:36:18
Speaker
around this topic first before embarking on any other projects.
00:36:22
Speaker
And along, you know, while you're doing this deep digging, I think it's important to
00:36:27
Speaker
look into your dreams and figure out where they're coming from and what is it you really want from those dreams?
00:36:33
Speaker
Because, you know, do you want a big house or do you want a feeling of safety and freedom and a place that you can host your friends?
00:36:43
Speaker
Now, do you want, what is it that you really want?
00:36:45
Speaker
And is it, is this something that deep down would impress your dad?
00:36:50
Speaker
And sometimes we can get caught in chasing something that isn't really what we want.
00:36:54
Speaker
And you got to be aware that whether you like it or not, you are being bombarded by marketing constantly.
00:37:02
Speaker
And so at some level, you want things that somebody else is convincing you to want.
00:37:08
Speaker
know and and you are dissatisfied with aspects of your life because there are these pressures and i think that you know when you're like going through that process of of inquiry like wait do i really need this do i really want this is is can be really freeing because as you said janus you can get caught in a place where you are living working to try to maintain your this quest for you know the carrot that you're going to keep keep charging for and in my life i i
00:37:37
Speaker
almost every time i had an opportunity to have like more freedom or more money i chose more freedom you know i recognized like what would i spend my money on it would be more time you know or more creative uh freedom and so for a long time that led to poverty level living
00:37:54
Speaker
And then it led to a focus in an area where I had some more marketable and unique skills and talents.
00:38:01
Speaker
But even so, that process of introspection can help you figure out, well, what do I really want?
00:38:08
Speaker
What would I buy with the money?
00:38:09
Speaker
Freedom.
00:38:10
Speaker
So it's not always the easy answer.
00:38:12
Speaker
Sure, sure.
00:38:16
Speaker
And I feel like this is a very deep conversation
00:38:21
Speaker
conversation.
00:38:22
Speaker
There's so many layers that we can keep

Future Money Mindset Explorations

00:38:24
Speaker
unpacking.
00:38:24
Speaker
I know personally, I have even more stories to share around some of the big breakthroughs that I've had in regards to this conversation of seeing the thought patterns, belief systems, programs, and then implementing new ones to be able to live a more prosperous lifestyle.
00:38:42
Speaker
And so I'd love to maybe bookmark this and see if we can carry on this conversation into another episode and also spark you listeners out there.
00:38:51
Speaker
If you have any thoughts or comments or inspirations, please send us a message.
00:38:56
Speaker
We love hearing from you guys because this is, there's so much to unpack here.
00:39:01
Speaker
So perhaps we can start to shift it into some closing sparks.
00:39:05
Speaker
Beautiful.
00:39:06
Speaker
Yeah.
00:39:07
Speaker
Yeah.
00:39:07
Speaker
Yeah.
00:39:08
Speaker
So, um,
00:39:10
Speaker
Yeah, for me, what I might kind of take away from this conversation is the idea of, and it goes to addressing your beliefs, but also your dreams.
00:39:25
Speaker
I think a lot of us have had dreams for ourselves that were awesome and valid when we had them, but we are constantly evolving.
00:39:33
Speaker
We are constantly growing.
00:39:34
Speaker
And I definitely caught myself a couple of times in life
00:39:38
Speaker
chasing after a dream that was no longer mine, that was no longer actually my dream.
00:39:44
Speaker
I was trying to do this thing that I really wanted to do.
00:39:48
Speaker
00:39:48
Speaker
And I remember the feeling of really wanting that.
00:39:51
Speaker
And so, yes, I'm still going to be pursuing that, but I'm a completely different person now still going after the same dream and wondering why I'm unhappy.
00:40:00
Speaker
So I think a lot of us can find ourselves in that position and be like, okay, so kind of check in with your dreams and be like, okay, so are these still mine?
00:40:09
Speaker
Do I still, this is something I still want because we do so many things out of habit and that can include
00:40:15
Speaker
work i can include like you know staying at a job so check in with yourself um find out you know where you know how where do you stand in relation to your dreams and um and you know if you're able to make a shift make a shift
00:40:33
Speaker
Yeah, I'll share mine in regards to that too is I feel like the biggest spark and takeaway from this conversation is really getting in touch with what are the belief systems that I have been given around money, what has been muddled to me.
00:40:49
Speaker
I feel like the deeper we can go into that, the more we can see around what works for us and what doesn't.
00:40:55
Speaker
Because some belief systems that our parents gave to us are going to be in

Speaker
incredibly supportive, so powerful to help us live in a abundant and prosperous life.
00:41:06
Speaker
And some maybe not maybe the opposite, you know, like you said, healthy and is like maybe there's some belief in there that our parents or grandparents or elders held around money being evil, you know, to be able to cultivate awareness around what are those belief systems and do I want to continue to put energy into those?
00:41:26
Speaker
Or do I want to shift them?
00:41:28
Speaker
Yeah, that's so huge.
00:41:31
Speaker
And as we're talking, I'm realizing that there's some deep money attitudes I'm still working through.
00:41:37
Speaker
You know, occasionally I will see somebody succeeding and I will have a little bit of like resentment and judgment towards them.
00:41:47
Speaker
And I'll be like, wait a minute, if I'm not celebrating this person finding abundance, how could I expect to reach that same type of abundance?
00:41:57
Speaker
I'm projecting all of this judgment and in doing so, I'm blocking myself from getting that same success.
00:42:06
Speaker
So I guess my spark is this ongoing process of inquiry in our beliefs and just being aware that you can always just keep opening, keep opening to finding deeper ways to make it an easeful flow towards abundance.
00:42:28
Speaker
This sounds like part one of a four part conversation that we were going to have.
00:42:33
Speaker
So, yeah, people stay tuned.
00:42:35
Speaker
We may very well be doing a deep dive into this coming up soon.
00:42:41
Speaker
I love talking about money.

00:43:50
Speaker

00:45:50
Speaker
the quickest way to find yourself in a place of abundance is to appreciate what you have.
00:45:55
Speaker

00:46:07
Speaker
Amazing.
00:46:08
Speaker
Well, that sparks an affirmation.
00:46:11
Speaker
So in Stay Sparked tradition, love to close this out with an affirmation.
00:46:18
Speaker
All right, so taking a nice deep breath and if it feels good to you to get into the embodiment of it, I urge you to put your arms up over your head and making a chalice, a vessel to receive.
00:46:30
Speaker
I am open to receive unexpected money, unexpected good, unexpected resources from unexpected places and unexpected times from unexpected people.
00:46:41
