So just to start us off with some background in symbolism, keep in mind Aries season is the start of the astrological year. So the sun moves into Aries on March 20th to April 20th and they are a cardinal fire sign and their symbol is a ram.

Aries is occasionally referred to as the newborn of the zodiac, which at first I was like, are they calling them babies? Because you often see that like they're like, oh, they're just so temper tantrums. They act like babies. Like you see that in all of like the stereotypical Aries stuff. But no, it's because they're filled with newness and potential. Basically, anything is possible.

Mythology and Aries: Greek, Egyptian, and Babylonian Tales

For Aries season, it's cardinal. Clarity is yang or masculine. The tarot key is the emperor. Culturally, outside of the spring equinox, it is also tied to Ostara. Easter, eggs, rabbits, and fertility rituals. Physical body is the ruler of the head.

So let's move into a little bit of the lore.

So Aries season just in general represents the time of year where we see that raw energy of spring and the world begins to rouse itself from winter, at least if you're in the northern hemisphere. And it marks the beginning of new cycles. So Aries looks forward to the future without regarding the past. Again, as you know, was mentioned, it is ruled by the planet of Mars. And this is important because

Mars rules both Scorpio and Aries. And in Aries, it is seen as the day or the diurnal home of Mars. So we see emotions of primal, combative, and fearlessness. And then in Scorpio, it finds its nocturnal home. And so you would see more of the brooding and secretive aspects of Mars in this sense.

And then in mythology, there's a lot of lore surrounding the constellation Aries, and it appears in many different stories and myths.

In Greek mythology, there's a story of two children called Heli and Phrixus, and they were ordered to be sacrificed to Zeus by their stepmom, who sounds fucking awful, honestly. But before their execution, they were rescued by their biological mom, Nefeli, and she was the goddess of clouds, and she sent a ram with a golden fleece to carry them to safety.

And so in the story, Heli ended up falling off the ram someplace between Europe and Asia, which kind of sucks for her. But Phryxis landed safely on the shores of the Black Sea, and he sacrificed the ram in gratitude for his rescue. So the fleece from the Golden Ram was then hung in an orchard belonging to the God of War, Ares.

And it was guarded by a fire-breathing dragon. And so I guess it's kind of the tie there between Aries the constellation and Aries like the god. And then it goes into a little bit more, because I was really trying to find more about the lore and the mythology and the symbolism surrounding Aries.

So the Greek god Aries is the god of war, but most fittingly, he was known as like the god of the spirit of the battle. So he wasn't very popular in Greece, like in ancient Greece, actually. And most people didn't go out of their way to worship him because he represented the brutalness of war and slaughter. So most people didn't want to like really worship that, I guess. Yeah. Don't know why, but Aries of Constellation was named

for Aries the Greek God and he was linked to Aries the Zodiac sign because Aries the Zodiac sign is bold and daring and can go to fight for what they most desire. So that's why there's a link there between Aries the God and Aries the Constellation slash Zodiac sign which is

a little bit confusing, but you know what is what is. So moving on to Egyptian mythology, Ares is reflected by the ram-headed Egyptian Amun-Ra, the creator of all the other gods. And Amun-Ra embodies that pioneering spirit of the first fire sign of Ares, being is that he did create all the other gods. Amun-Ra ruled over fertility and creativity, which was vital to set spring into motion with regeneration.

And so again, that's why in Egyptian mythology, Amun-Ra is connected to Aries. And in Babylonian times, we get this symbol of Aries being the ram from the ancient Babylonians because the ram was associated with agriculture and the god of the shepherds.
Aries in Astrology: The First House

In astrology, Aries rules the first house and they're assigned the first house because the first house indicates how a person presents themselves to the world.
