🎙 Episode Summary:
In this episode, we dive deep into what it truly means to be an empowered photographer. Beyond business tactics, the biggest challenge photographers face is feeling worthy of success. Many start photography for personal reasons, making it difficult to charge what they’re worth and confidently receive compensation.

💡 Key Takeaways:
✔️ Self-Worth & Pricing – When you undervalue yourself, you create a business model that leads to burnout.
✔️ The Power of Receiving – Charging what you’re worth allows you to show up fully for your clients.
✔️ Mindset Shift – You are not just a photographer; you are providing a luxury service capturing life’s most valuable moments.
✔️ The Cost of Playing Small – When you charge less, you feel less pressure—but it also limits your success.
✔️ "When people pay, they pay attention." The more your clients invest, the more they value your work.

Action Step:
Think about one way you can step into empowerment today—whether it’s raising your prices, setting boundaries, or confidently marketing your work.

Alright, so let's talk a little bit about what it means to be an empowered photographer. and I know I already talked about that in the intro, but I just want to get a little deeper on this before I get into the real meat of business tactics. I really think that one of the most challenging parts about being a photographer is feeling worthy of success.

And I think that this happens to us as artists because we start this whole endeavor, this whole being a photographer thing for something personal, usually. And I know that's not the case for everybody, but for the people in my community, that's typically the case. And so it's really hard.

to feel empowered to receive. We block ourselves from truly being seen as a photographer and we really feel almost safer not being seen.

The Pitfalls of Undercharging

00:00:49
Speaker
And so what we start doing is we charge a little bit less because then we feel less pressure. We feel less pressure to serve in a bigger way. We feel less pressure to be seen. And it's really, really hard on us as an industry and really hard on us as business owners in general when we don't feel empowered, when we don't feel worthy of showing our work to the world and we don't feel worthy of being invested in.

There is a quote that I really love. and it's When people pay, they pay attention. And the more they pay, the more they pay attention. so if you think about it as you're starting to embark in this you know this journey of empowerment and starting to charge more starting to make more as an artist as a photographer You are selling yourself short by charging less, by playing small.

If you do not feel empowered to receive, then you are literally staying in a box and not allowing yourself to reach your full earning power and your full potential.

Mindset and Value Recognition

Speaker
And what starts to happen is you build this business, you're building it on this disempowerment um mindset, and you burn out because you are working so hard for so little.
00:02:09
Speaker
And maybe that's not you. Maybe you are an empowered photographer, but I want you... to listen to the rest of these lessons, the rest of this secret podcast, this private podcast that I'm making, um with a new mindset, or at least try to start building a new mindset, a mindset of empowerment where you feel worthy of what there is to have be had in this industry.
00:02:38
Speaker
You are worthy of being seen. There is a place for you at this table. You were meant to be here and you are worthy of charging money to make a meaningful wage, a wage that you can live on, a wage that is more than more than a you know minimum a minimum wage job, which ends up happening. A lot of my students will crunch the numbers and realize that they are paying themselves less than minimum wage and you're not that you are providing a luxury service photographers really are providing a luxury service to provide photographs of somebody's most important times in their life their season of their life that they're in is a luxury service whether you're a wedding photographer a family photographer a newborn photographer a school photographer a fashion photographer
00:03:26
Speaker
Whatever it is that you're doing, you are providing high value. So I want you to start thinking about for a moment how you can get into a place of empowerment and that you can start receiving from that place, from a place of horror of high self-worth.
00:03:45
Speaker
You have to be confident that you are worthy of receiving. If you don't start stepping into this mindset, it's very hard to be a photographer that has long-term success because you are getting in your own way.

So I really want you to elevate into this identity, this higher empowered identity of somebody who is worthy of receiving information. Now, when you hear the rest of the information, the other little lessons that I'm going to be giving to you, i want you to remember that you are coming at this from a place of empowerment.
