So the TikTok ban happened when I was with my three teenagers and one of them literally went into tears. And we all know now it came back. It came back like 12 hours later, but her, she said, my type my entire childhood is gone. Obviously it's only been a couple of years that she's on TikTok, but it was the truth, right? What she had there felt personal and it was just gone like that.

And I get it, right? I get it. That is a really emotional place to feel like something that you've created or something that you've been consuming has been taken from you.

I'm glad it's back up, but I hope that for all of you, it was a huge wake-up call. Because what we all have to realize is that we are not in charge of what happens on social media.

In fact, we have zero control over it. We cannot complain when the grid goes vertical, nor can we complain if the app gets shut down. They never guaranteed to us that this was for life.

We can blame our lack of business on algorithms if we want, but it's not this algorithm's job to bring us business. It's our job. we were never in charge of the social media space it is rented real estate you do not own your social media platform so if you are putting all of your marketing efforts into that basket if you are relying only on social media You are leaving yourself in a very vulnerable place.

Focus on Controllable Marketing Strategies

You are opening yourself up to this disaster that is somebody deciding that your account isn't worthy anymore. You know how sometimes that happens? i don't know if you've heard of that. People's accounts will just like randomly get shut down.

Customer service does not exist in the social media world and they're just kind of screwed. um The government or whatever could shut down one of the platforms. The sky's the limit. And of course, the other thing is that they want you to pay for ads, right? You are not in charge.

So what should you do instead? Social media can only be part of your strategy. It's more of like the introduction. And it in fact, for my photography business, social media is actually a very minimal part of our strategy.

and There are two things that you can control. You control the content on your website and you control your email list. When you send an email, twenty 20 to 30% of the people who you send it to will open.
