Oliver Glazner's Future at Crystal Palace
00:00:30
Global Sports Podcast Network
So today we're going to be looking into Oliver Glazner's future at Crystal Palace. Some fresh um rumors have come out from Steve Parrish and the the Eagles hierarchy about Oliver Glazner's future. So we'll be jumping into that.
Crystal Palace's Challenging Fixtures and Cup Run
00:00:44
Global Sports Podcast Network
And then we'll be looking at some of the upcoming fixtures that we've got a bit of a deadly fixture list ahead of Christmas. So we're going to be diving into that.
00:00:55
Global Sports Podcast Network
and seeing how many potential points we can claim and whether we can continue our cup run with a tasty upcoming affair against Arsenal in December. Then we're going to have a look at some local football more further down the English pyramid. ah Some Crystal Palace legends have been reuniting at Croydon and we're going to have a look at um um look at that and end on a bit of a cheery note. So we're going to jump straight into it. yeah o Oliver Glazner His future has been up in the air recently, ah question marks before the latest international break about his future. um However, he got some strong results against Aston Villa away, Wolves away, topping them at home before we finished with a bit of a drab 2-0 defeat at home against Fulham.
00:01:42
Global Sports Podcast Network
ah But it appears that Glasner has done enough for now to to stave off the wolves from um coming at his door and give it and get in the sack.
Impact of Injuries on Performance
00:01:53
Global Sports Podcast Network
Parrish apparently is is content with with what's going on.
00:01:58
Global Sports Podcast Network
I personally feel this is the right decision. There have been glimpses of you know how well we can play in those results that we've got at Abvilla and at home against Tottenham, two of the the toughest teams that will play this season. um Yeah, two really positive performances there. I think we're obviously a bit unlucky with injuries.
00:02:19
Global Sports Podcast Network
that derailed us a bit ah for for Wolves away, where we perhaps might have got a win if we had a stronger team. And then obviously Fulham, we had a bit of a thrown together team, but a few few players in makeshift positions like Gahi in midfield.
00:02:34
Global Sports Podcast Network
um you know, we didn't have Nketia, no Eze, no Warton, no Loma, so key players out. um So I think taking that result aside, we looked better, so much better in those last few games before the international break.
Youth Players Making an Impact
00:02:50
Global Sports Podcast Network
um things of so We saw things starting to click like they did at the end of last season, you know a higher press, a bit more positive play through the lines, scoring more goals which was essential and just making a bit more positive starting games which we all wanted to see. um I think as well an interesting area which I think has perhaps played a part in Glasna salvaging his future has given some opportunities to young players. and We saw Asher Agbonone get his debut off the bench at Forest away and then he trusted Justin Deveny to start against Fulham in midfield, which you know is a tough occasion for any young player, um but he obviously entrusted him to do that job ah in the absence of players like Wharton and Lerma.
00:03:39
Global Sports Podcast Network
um You know, obviously we didn't get the result, but he was actually a bright spark in that game. Didn't really, really put a foot wrong and and look pretty solid all around. ah So I think those areas are are working in Glazner's favor as well. and you know, hopefully he can use a bit of that fearlessness and the kind of athleticism from these young players to challenge the players who are on to performing a bit um in the first team. It'd be good to, you know, have those as as backup players in our squad because we don't have the biggest squad going. So you've got to use what you've got. And I think having these youth players will be quite handy. You know, if if some players don't, um some senior players don't step up to the mark like they haven't been this season, having a youth threat on the bench is um
00:04:22
Global Sports Podcast Network
a good motivator for those players. And I think that's something that Glaznar should continue to do and hopefully he
Support for Glazner Amidst Manager Rumors
00:04:29
Global Sports Podcast Network
will. Every time we see a young player at Selhurst, there's a positive bounce. And when you're down near the relegation zone like us, these things can help and the players, the young players can sometimes give you a bit of energy in the team that's been lacking ah previously. So hopefully that can continue. I think on the whole though, we have to stick with Glaznar for now.
00:04:51
Global Sports Podcast Network
there are rumors swirling around about David Moyes and Rude Van Nistroy as well. And I think, you know, these things are always gonna come up when you're down there in the relegation zone.
00:05:03
Global Sports Podcast Network
But we can't keep flitting between managers with different styles and different personalities ah just to remain a Premier League club. I think we have to stick with Glasgow. We know what he's got. We know what he can bring to the team when he gets everything clicking. I think the players really respond well to him as well. um We saw that the improvements in the Spurs game.
00:05:26
Global Sports Podcast Network
after we made our winless start to the season was just incredible and I think that's testament to to Glazer and his man management capabilities. So he's obviously got enough there to to keep going at Palace and it's something that I would love to see. I'd just love to see him continue and us together go up on an upward trajectory.
00:05:46
Global Sports Podcast Network
um It would just be yeah but much more positive, I think, than bringing in a Mois or a new manager with different ideas. And I think the players need that stability at this point as well. I don't think you get out of relegate relegation danger always by changing the manager. And the players know Glazner now, they know him well enough.
00:06:04
Global Sports Podcast Network
and hopefully yeah some of these young players as well know him enough now to respond to his style and yeah hopefully we can develop a bit of a philosophy around the club long term rather than changing to these managers with perhaps outdated ideas and more defensive football which I think we've seen enough of at Celes Park over the last few years.
00:06:26
Global Sports Podcast Network
So we're going to take a quick ad break there, and then we're going to be looking at some of the upcoming fixtures that Glazner has to manage to yeah try and keep Parrish and the board happy. So stick around.

Upcoming Fixtures Against Villa, Newcastle, and Arsenal
00:07:11
Global Sports Podcast Network
I'm your host today, Alex Waite. We're just talking about Oliver Glazner's future and some signs coming out of the club that he's going to be remaining in his position for the time being, that is.
00:07:23
Global Sports Podcast Network
ah but having a look at our fixture list coming up, it's going to be a challenging time for him. There is the old saying that there's no easy games in the Premier League and there are certainly not four Palace coming up in the next few weeks. So before Christmas, and we have seven fixtures. um Some of them look very daunting, others you would perhaps target where you're in our position for maximum points and as a fan you you want to be wanting nothing less from that. ah So the seven games are we start with Villa away this Saturday, Newcastle at home and we've got Ipswich away, City at home, Brighton away, then an Arsenal doublehead double header, one away at the Emirates in the EFL Cup and then we've got Arsenal at home just before Christmas on the 21st of December in the Premier League.
00:08:14
Global Sports Podcast Network
So there are some real tough games in there um that you wouldn't want to face at any time of the season, let alone if you're just inside the relegation zone and looking for points.
Glazner's Strategy for Upcoming Games
00:08:25
Global Sports Podcast Network
However, things always so all kick off again um on Saturday as we make the trip up to Villa Park. We did get a result there, obviously, a few weeks ago in the EFL Cup, playing a full strength side against the Villa side that was a bit mismatch, let's say. um I didn't have the full of strength squad, although they had a full ah few first team players out and included. um Yeah, it wasn't their full strength side. So I think we'll see that from Villa this time and it'll be a much harder game. ah We will be boosted by, you know, the returning ah injured players, hopefully with Eze back, which will give us a massive boost. But just looking at those fixtures as a whole, as a collective group, um
00:09:09
Global Sports Podcast Network
The one that stands out is obviously Ipswich away, where you know we have to be getting maximum points from that, considering where we are. ah Newcastle and Man City at home and Arsenal at home are very tough. um And I think Glasner perhaps asked to maybe change his, the high pressing approach for some of these games. um There's no shame in digging out a 0-0 or a 1-0 or a 1-0 or whatever it is. ah You just have to be solid in those games I think now. um He did admit as well after the Wolves game, he pushed and kettied too hard ah with the press and which is a contributor towards his hamstring, a possible contributor towards his hamstring injury. um
00:09:51
Global Sports Podcast Network
so you've got to kind of protect the players as well in these instances like especially if you're in the midfield and attack you can't be going ah you know going to Villa away and trying to press them to death and then doing the same to Newcastle at home for a really really good defensive side probably one of the best in the Premier League at the moment um and then do it for City at home and Arsenal at home it's just not going to work so I think we need to Yeah, come into these this run of games with a few different plan Bs and different tactics up our sleeve. um I just can't see us you know playing at 100 miles an hour for seven games in the next month or so.
League vs Cup Run: Prioritization
00:10:29
Global Sports Podcast Network
It's just really not possible, with um yeah especially with some of the injury concerns that we've had. So I think as well that Arsenal Cup match is a bit of ah a tricky one too because
00:10:41
Global Sports Podcast Network
Obviously, we want a cup from. We'd love that Palace. We've never had silverware or major silverware at the club before. um And it's great to go on a cup from. but I just think looking at the game surrounding that and where we are in the league table, I think we've got to protect the players there and just you know give everything for the league at this point. um If we were in a better league position, you might argue that it would be a good game to ah throw our rule at. Maybe Arsenal aren't going to put a full strength side out either, considering they're in the Champions League and have game two games a week, more or less. But that it something has to give where we are. you know um And I think that game is the one where you'd say, all right, let's rest a few players. Maybe it gives a great experience to some of the young players. you know Making a debut at the ah the Emirates would be an excellent
00:11:33
Global Sports Podcast Network
a way to to kickstart your palace career. um And then you rest players like Eze and Mateta, and you know you don't play them for 90 minutes where they're harrying the opposition and you know trying to snatch something. um So that is a game that I would perhaps concede to where we say, you know we're not going to give that everything. um But yeah, and then Brighton away again. Got the Derby coming up, which, yeah, very tough. um And i I feel like if Glazner is going to, if Parrish and the board are going to give Glazner this period, he's got to think of some new ways to approach it. um But they don't come much tougher than that. Saying that we are palace and we do tend to grind out results from these fixtures out of nowhere. um So yeah, we'll see how we get on. On paper, it doesn't look too hopeful, but you never know. And hopefully this time in a month,
00:12:28
Global Sports Podcast Network
We'll be eating our mince pies, drinking our sherry and looking at Palace, hopefully a bit higher up the table, possibly out of the EFL Cup. But yeah, we'll see in a month's time. Right. Stick around. We're going to take another short break and we'll be looking at ah another local team in Croydon in the final part of this podcast. AFC Croydon News and Connections to Crystal Palace
00:13:22
Global Sports Podcast Network
ah So we've been talking about Palace for the past two sections, but there is some Palace related news coming out of AFC Croydon, the, should I say Stormzy and Wilfred Zaha co-owned AFC Croydon just down the road from Selahas Park. um The two superstars, ah well, is Wilford superstar?
00:13:44
Global Sports Podcast Network
in the footballing world, yes, but is he as big or well known as Stormzy in other realms? I don't think so. um But the two brought, purchased AFC Wimbledon, like AFC Croydon last season and got the team promoted in the first season at the helm, um which was a great achievement for the guys.
00:14:06
Global Sports Podcast Network
um Yeah and the news today has come out that Keith Millan, the former Palace caretaker manager and assistant manager to the likes of Alan Pardew, Tony Pulis and Neil Warnock has taken charge, full charge of AFC Croydon for this season which is for them a massive coup. He's a hugely experienced manager um hey He led us for two interim spells where we were as we are at the moment in the releg relegation zone and ah I think he had a bit of an affinity with the fans just for getting good results and playing some decent football along the way with
00:14:45
Global Sports Podcast Network
not always the best team. um So yeah Zahaar and Stormzy have turned to local Croydon boy Keith Millon which sort of which um yeah is ah is an excellent appointment. yeah He's a local local guy with <unk> links to the area and yeah it's just a nice nice story there to um to finish on but he's not the only palace legend actually who's at the club.
00:15:08
Global Sports Podcast Network
and he joins Andy Johnson who is the director of football at AFC Croydon. So it's all coming together for the Rams this season and it'll be great to see them try and achieve another promotion. um Who knows, one day Zaha might return to Selhurst Park in the director's box as AFC Croydon prepare for a Premier League clash with Crystal Palace. That would be a so a joy to behold and something to savour, wouldn't it? But yeah, good luck to AFC Croydon for the rest of the campaign. um And we're also going to be hoping the Palace get a positive result this weekend as we head up back to the Midlands to take on Aston Villa.
