Intro & Wild Card Wednesdays

00:00:09
Speaker
Hello, hello, hello. Welcome to the Daily Arsenal Podcast, brought to you as part of the Global Sports Podcast Network. It is Wild Card Wednesdays, which means we're taking a little bit of a break from our normal tactical analysis and player bashing to bring you a slightly different feature. And this week, it is part two of our one player from every club challenge.

Player Picks Part 2

00:00:32
Speaker
We've already done the first 11 players,
00:00:35
Speaker
Oh, well, first level players, first level clubs from the Premier League. Now it's time to move on to the last

Guest Introductions

00:00:40
Speaker
nine. But to join me to bring on this excellent challenge are the phenomenal Joshua Duncan, Jamie Patterson and Rodney Gooden. Rodney, welcome back to the

Newcastle News with Rodney

00:00:50
Speaker
pod, man. It's been a while. How we been keeping? Oh, good, good, except for news about anyone, Newcastle, but yeah, could be better.
00:00:56
Speaker
ah me and Me and Jamie have literally just wrapped talking about the Edo situation. What a surprise that was and not a pleasant one. Yeah, yeah great to wake up for that. yeah Literally the first thing I did grab my phone is just like, oh, what's happening? Oh, an Arsenal thing. Edo's resigning. Oh, devastating news. Okay. Crawl back into bed and pretend it didn't happen.

Liverpool Player Debate

00:01:21
Speaker
Well, these fine gentlemen are going to Now, be faced with a challenge of picking one player from every Premier League club, the last nine of which from the Premier League alphabetically and as we did last time, we'll be judging how expensive each of their signings are to see who's got the spendiest taste in the Arsenal family. are Coming up first, Jamie Patterson. Jamie, welcome back. It's lovely to see you again. Thank you. Liverpool is our first team, first in the Premier League. Potential title challengers. There's a plethora of talent there. Who you going for, buddy?

JD's Fashion Moment

00:01:53
Speaker
Just quickly, ah for those of you that can't obviously see us, I've just got to mention Josh, JD, I'm loving the Bucket Hat man, loving the Bucket Hat. For those of you that cannot see, JD is just rocking this blue Ralph Lauren Bucket Hat. Oh my gosh, it is absolutely amazing. It's stunning. I need a trim and I ain't got a baseball cap or a beanie. so This is the next thing. you know i mean I'm tired of seeing my little mini afro. I'm tired of seeing that. I hear you, man. I hear you. But yeah, i'm going back to your your original question, who would I take from that Liverpool squad? yes you look at the You look at the squad and you kind of described it. It is stacked full of talent.
00:02:43
Speaker
But so much this is going to surprise you guys. I'm not going to go for your usual, you know, your most sellers, et cetera, et cetera. I'm going to go for Cody Gackpo. Cody Gackpo is a strong shout. I don't hate that.

Liverpool Squad Choices

00:02:56
Speaker
yeah you know at all he You look at his international stats for for the the Netherlands. They are unbelievable. And I mean, I take him at Arsenal. I can't lie. I take him. Does he start above Martinelli for you?
00:03:10
Speaker
Ooh, that's a good question. Good question. Do you know what? I think you've got to give him a little bit of competition. That's the thing. I would... I agree, because Trussard's not competition for him.
00:03:29
Speaker
is ah <unk> to joining this me forget about tearing in an ear off you you really tore him one um already yeah honestly cony get a food jamie in that case yeah oh yeah thank you um rodney what about you liverpool squad you again agreed stacked with talent as well but
00:03:53
Speaker
I'm ready to jump! always been a fan of Trent for the passing range. I know defensively, you know, we've already got quite a robust mix of options, but I'm thinking, can I tell you, have you seen him this season? He's been looking pretty baby, you know what I'm saying? Oh, he's looked very, very good, hasn't he? Exactly. So I've been thinking, you know what, it's red. I look at another team and go, Ooh, who do we fit for the defensively? Cause usually we are quite stacked, but you know what's going on injuries as well. You know, you might need some more reinforcement, even though we're already well developed there. So I'm thinking,
00:04:21
Speaker
I might have to give it it's a toss up between Trent and Kanate but I think for Trent it's also his ability going forward and his passing range so yeah I'm gonna have to go with Mr Alexander Arnold. You're gonna go for it. I thought you're gonna go Kanate then for a second and I actually... He's recent performances have really given it so I said it's a toss up but I think it's yeah it's the long balls over the top. from me yes i You know, I wouldn't, I wouldn't have hated that because I feel like we're less stacked in the central defensive position. So can I would be a good addition. I say yourself. Sure. Rodney. yeah you um to Believe in you, brother. Believe in you. You know what, fine. ah i No, no, no. You you said Trent now. It's done. Don't you worry. But believe yourself, buddy. Now, Mr. Bucket Hat Supreme. Who are we going for, bud?
00:05:08
Speaker
Well, first of all, I just want to say sorry for Trussard, you know, I don't know what Trussard thought after him. He thought he was the wrong player. It should be Habits, he should be after, you know what I mean? Oh no. Of course he had to mention Habits. He's got to be Habits, mate. You know what, yeah, it's like picking, you know, best candy store, you know what I mean? So many different players.
00:05:31
Speaker
I think I'm just going to, you know, agree with Jamie and go get pull, you know. Yeah. Really? Yeah. I'm a fan of him. I'm excited about my life. You know, I really do like him. and um I mean, Trusser again, Trusser's not really a star. You know, he's a good player. He's more of a super sub. I think Gepo is young, you know, you'll probably push my nature. I think he might even start ahead of mine. Just, you know, maybe. No, I get what you're saying. So, I mean, you could always go for more salad, but you know, I'm not going to take my boy Sakhar out.
00:06:06
Speaker
um not That's the thing. Even though more talent is better, but you know, the tackle is like the golden boy, you know what I mean? You've got to think about how many years is right. Amazing now, but we're looking at someone who's going to be there for the next five, six years and still giving all of that, so we'll see. Exactly. but yeah yeah so yeah got this is that for me This isn't necessarily who's the best player for every team, it's who do you think is going to fit Arsenal? Where would they go? Would they get in? So, Gackpo's a solid shell, but I mean, we're going from one stacked team to another, next, alphabetically.

Manchester City Player Picks

00:06:39
Speaker
I'm going to go through my selections at the very end, but actually, no. Sod it. I'm going to tell you now. For Liverpool, I went to Darwin Nunez because I like him. And he's going to be top gold scorer. And I haven't picked a number nine for the rest of mine. But from Manchester City, I've gone for Jack Grealish. What? Yeah. Me? Yeah. I think... We'll play the English or something, you know what I mean?
00:07:09
Speaker
anything that's the reason not to but look he's brilliant on the ball technically very gifted he's an excellent creator he can sit centrally or he can go out wide i think he's versatile and he brings another creative element which at the moment we've been stunted with i think and we struggle with but that's just my that's just my you know little opinion it's always been wrong except for a neo um Josh, we'll start with you this time. Who would you take from a city squad? Well, I think it's a no brainer and it's very, you know, you know, I don't like this guy. Yeah, that's got a goal. I'm getting Harlan in, you know what I mean? I'm going to show him how the school goes. How much is Gordon? That's it. You know, I mean, he's Gordon. That's that's a no brainer. I'm not even the biggest fan of Harlan. I'm not the biggest fan. But, it you know, I can trust him to finish simple goals. He can strike a football.
00:08:00
Speaker
You know what I mean? He's gone. He's living on a bench. He's gone. He's out of the clubs. Josh, I have to ask, are you picking Harlan just to spite Haverts? Of course. A little bit.
00:08:14
Speaker
A little bit, a little bit. But at the same time, not a little bit. You can't argue against it, you know what I mean? Habits is just, you don't mind guy, you know what I mean? And Harland's like, he's just a way better habit. Yeah, no, it's a fair point. What about you? What about you, Ron Rodney? Are we going to go for a clean sweep on Harland or you would you rather somebody else? i You know what? I think Harland is a strong choice, you know? Absolutely. pretty but I like the wingers, though. This is the thing.
00:08:43
Speaker
I'm thinking, I know he's just gone off engine. We'll have to see what happens all in. But Savino, he's looking quite good for them. Yeah. Yeah. and Yeah. You know what? I rate him. He looks like a baller. So that's going to be my pick. Savino could go with a Ballon d'Or winner. You could have gone. You You got through the ATL. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. yeah yeah
00:09:09
Speaker
Jamie just you left then Manchester City. Do you know what's really funny? I had two players in my head and both them players were mentioned. you So to be honest with you and again I have to think about the Arsenal collective here, but I think for me, I'd have to go Harlan because. Yeah. is out gone go know but it's the fact that if you take If you look at the weekend's game, right? You look at our game against Newcastle, a lot of balls were pinged into the box.
00:09:44
Speaker
no one was there to kind of just slide it home and I mean if Harlan was there listen we know nine times 9.99 reoccurring it would go into the back of the net fair enough yeah I mean he's he's the best boxer in the world it's hard not to pick him have we not been crying for a striker we've been crying for that finisher no there you go absolutely right it's just me and Rodney aren't basic yeah God, I'm on a warpath today. I don't know what it is. Right. The last one of this section, Manchester United, um,

Manchester United Debate

00:10:20
Speaker
one of the total ones actually, I thought that yeah considering their squad, they are a 13th place squad, which is where they are in the league. Brilliantly. So, um, Rodney United who?
00:10:33
Speaker
Oh, it's been tough because United's season has been absolutely diabolical so far. While it could turn around, the only player that I think has really just said, there's a bit of shine to him, quite impressive. I'm going to give it to Ganacho. Every time I see him on the ball, yeah, he looks decent, looks like a threat. There's other issues as to why their performance have been the way it is, but I never thought he's the reason why it's all crumbling apart. And I think he's got potential. So I'm going to go to Ganacho. He's an exciting wide player. I've actually gone for another young wide player. I went for him at Diallo.
00:11:02
Speaker
Mmm, he's on my list as well, yeah. I like Dama Diallo, he's a spicy little player, also clearly, apparently, wants out, so we'll bring you that, we'll have yous. Jamie, what about yourself? United? I can't lie, there was, again, ah I had Diallo in my head, but I'm gonna, again, I'm gonna go a little bit different here, I'm gonna go Mas Rawi.
00:11:26
Speaker
really okay really I just think I don't know but in United's game so far it seems to be that he has been slightly better than the other 10 players that have been on the pitch and I think when you look at Arsenal's left side again it has been a bit of a headache and you know we've always said that, you know, you're starting back four, you know, hands down you'd have Ben White, Saliba Gabriel. It's always been a headache with the left-back role. But I think for me, Mass Rowey, I mean, you know, he he' done good at Bayern. He's done all right at Bayern. I'd take him as as a left-back.
00:12:06
Speaker
Hey, he would not start over California. No, he's, he's probably the best number 10 defender that I've ever seen you playing in that in that position. Oh, did you not see him? it and He was, he, he passed the ball a couple of times. It was impressive. JD last one for this section united who you got. I'm not gonna lie to you. That's pretty poor, isn't it? It's pretty poor. not I think.
00:12:37
Speaker
I've got to agree with Rodney, I'm pretty ganacho. He's the only one who can. I was going to go Bruno Fernandes, but... Not Kobe Manu? Yeah, he was on the list. We could use him. We could use him. He's a shout out. Ganacho, Ahmad, and Kobe won my top three for them. Yeah, same. I think I'm just edging Ganacho, because there's something about him there that I think he'd probably fit into that. There's a nastiness as well, isn't there? He's got a windy day. I feel like in the right manner, in the right team, I feel like he's a worn winner. Do you know what I mean? Right, that's it for the first section. We've got our first three sets of players from our clubs.

It's our Wild Card Wednesday episode where we pick one player from every Premier League team. Next up is Newcastle. And Rodney, I have to come to you first because I have a feeling you might have already mentioned your pick earlier on when we were talking about this fixture earlier this week. Who have you chosen from Newcastle?

Newcastle Player Picks

00:14:14
Speaker
Ah, you really know. It's Isaac. It's Isaac, isn't It's kind of I'm Isaac creator. It's unfortunate know what he did to us, you know, but that's the reason this is my point. This is part and parcel about why I've always been a fan of him as well. Full playing striker. Again, he can, he's progressive with his playmaking, like he can pass, he can shoot, he can do absolutely everything. And I think, yeah, injury proneness, it can be a bit difficult, but I've always thought for someone to come in from Newcastle, I want him in the forward position. And so he's always been my favourite. Definitely going to be my top pick to bring it into Arsenal.
00:14:46
Speaker
i mean fourteen like i can't lie that it hurts to hear you saying that after what we experienced on saturday but know um know that that god do you know i imagine that i know but know it's the fact that rodney says it with confidence he does it it's not like a like i have to i have to kind of like it hurts me to say it but no rodney's been in tea and everything yeah food like he's happy in school i go against us know today in that case let's turn to somebody who wasn't happy that we were scored against Josh who would you take from Newcastle and why and is it still going to be izak anyway after all that
00:15:30
Speaker
um I've picked for someone who needs to but he's you know, the last couple of seasons he's been, he's been solid. I can't say, and you know what, this me too, we could, we could probably use him to be fair. Yeah. And I think there's no brain of Jordan for me.
00:15:52
Speaker
Joe Lenton, he's just, ah again, a nasty piece of work he'll get. when Yeah, absolutely. ah Jamie, where do you where do you stand? um There were three players that I've got in my head. ah One of them was a bit of a... ah He's a bit up... he's ah ah He's upcoming, you know, and I would have said Timo Liberamento. Yeah. I'm not going to say Lloyd Kelly.
00:16:18
Speaker
No, no, no. No, I wouldn't have gone for him. There was him. I would have even maybe said EZAC, because again, you look at previously the link up he had with Odegard, with Marino, and that's not me. I can't lie. You know, but I'm really in two minds. It's EZAC or Anthony Gordon. Oh, Gordon's a good show. Oh, Gordon's a great show. That's my number two. Fantastic. You know, that is, I think that it's between them two, but
00:16:52
Speaker
Oh, I'm sorry, but I think EZAC edges it for me, but it's only because of his connections with Odegard and Marino. And again, you know, it worked at Relsosia, Dad. Who say it wouldn't work for Arsenal? I didn't win anything, though. You're in the club! You know it, yeah. i I have to admit, my choice was actually Tino Libermento. Oh, all right. Yeah, that's up for us.
00:17:19
Speaker
Next up, Nottingham Forest. This year's surprise package.

Nottingham Forest Deliberation

00:17:23
Speaker
um Josh, you knew I was coming to you first, didn't you?
00:17:31
Speaker
What have you said in the past? I'm willing to overlook them, though. Who would you like to take from Nottingham Forest? Ah, good mate. There are two players that come to mind. There are two players that come to mind.
00:17:47
Speaker
I'm going to say, because I still think he's betting habits, right? At this point, anyone's better than habits. Brilliant Chris Woods, you know, he's having a banging season, you know, he's having a banging season. He is having an absolute core conversation. Yeah, he is. I'm not going to lie to you, he's a bit boring to watch, but you know, he gets goals here and there.
00:18:10
Speaker
and then um ah Probably go Hudson or Doy, you know. We've been a fan i mean yeah totally fan of him. you know I think he's it definitely not a start-off for us. No, I think he can definitely come off the bench and do do a little job for us. You know, I think he can do more than a start then. So is Hudson or Doy your shout then? Or Chris Wood? Yeah, be Chris Wood. Yeah, Hudson or Doy, can't be Chris Wood. Hudson or Doy, of course. What about yourself Jamie?
00:18:38
Speaker
Yeah, do you know what, that for me it was either between Chris Woods or ah Callum Hudson or Doi, you know. um Another honourable mention, Olaena, what's his name? Aina. Oh, isn't it Olaena? Aina? Olaena. Yeah. Another big shout as well. um But yeah, I think for me, fuuu-
00:19:04
Speaker
I'm going, yeah, I've got to go Calum Hobson or Doy. You know, don't get me wrong, Chris Wood has had a good start to the season. But for me, I want someone that is consistent through seasons, you know.
00:19:18
Speaker
at the minute. It's good that we're seeing Chris Wood score goals. You know, and I've got him in my FPL for this weekend. So if you're listening, you know, please do me a favour. Get me a hatcheque over the weekend against whoever you're playing against. And ah yeah, I'd be quite happy. So when he goes to the week that his form turns around and fails, and it Rodney.
00:19:41
Speaker
Yeah, I think it's been said, I've got to go with the same. I think Hudson and I think situation i mean as a backup rotational option, maybe, but yeah, not the one that excites me the most. I'm glad that he's found this form, but I feel that very next season, it would mike it could drop off again. I'm needing right now, Chris form. I need that to be consistent. Does that for a couple more seasons? Maybe. from now yeah right He's also 32 as Chris would. That's also true.
00:20:07
Speaker
like at this point maybe a week yeah wow crazy wow you really don't you really don't want me to do well in FPL do you i've done terribly jame i need to drag everyone i can down with me um before we move on to Southampton mine was uh James Ward Prowse James Ward Prowse i'd bring him in there's a little bit of back just sort of like a squad centroid field backup he's got got that sort of, you know, he's got that ability with a dead ball. I think I don't know. I haven't, I haven't seen much of him at forest to kind of make me think, well, actually I'll take him. That's, that's the only thing now. This is arguably along with wolves. This is arguably the toughest one. South Hampton.

Southampton Selections

00:20:54
Speaker
I'm going to put mine straight out. I've gone for Yukinari Sugawara.
00:20:59
Speaker
wow yeah They're right back who I've commentated a couple of the Southampton games and he is good. He looks very, very good. Just very composed, very strong on the ball. I think they got him for like seven minutes. I think it was an absolute bargain. So he would be my pick. Jamie, what about yours? We'll go to you first. For me, I think I'd go Archer.
00:21:22
Speaker
Okay, I think you know he showed good glimpses at when when he came to the Emirates An honorable mention Aaron Ramsdale. I mean can we just Honorable mention but you know, I'm sorry that you've not been performing well Ramsdale But um yeah, I think for me Archer would be would be a ah would be my pick Okay, excellent ah Not me. Not you. No, I agree with you. I think Suguara was definitely yeah. Suguara, yeah. As I said, yeah, he's having a decent season as well. Looks the most impressive so far. And I think, yeah, reinforcing that back line.
00:21:57
Speaker
Yeah, I'll take it. He's been the most standout player for me for so long. He's really good, isn't he? Yeah, yeah. He's subtly really impressive. some of the little Some of the little movements he makes and the overlaps and things like that is really, really good. um And last bit for this section, Josh, Southampton, I'm not going to let you skip a club this time. You've got to pick one. Who can go for?
00:22:19
Speaker
Ryan Frazier. It's a it's a joke. is a joke i'm ah I'll be joking. I'll be joking. No, no, no, no. No, I wish he was. Now, you guys have mentioned honorable guys, but I think I've got to look at it, and I was sad to see him leave, and if I'm allowed to pick him.
00:22:37
Speaker
Mm. And Rams, though, because, you know, I mean, we don't really have a second keeper, you know, Nettles, like Nettles, I'm sure he's cut tight, so he can't really play a couple of games. So and Rams, though, you know, I think I was sad to see him learn. I think he could have been the number one for us. All right. It's a bit sad to see what happened to him. Like, literally did nothing wrong. Yeah. And then, you know, Ray just came in and, you know, just took his place and that was it. So, yeah, I'm going to say Rams, though.
00:23:05
Speaker
Do you know what, Josh? I feel like I've done you dirty with how much I've set you over the truss. I'd comment. So I'm going to allow it. I loved it. I loved it. And there's much more where that came from. Right. We're going to take one more little break. And when we come back, we have our last three clubs of the Premier League, West Ham, Wolverhampton, Wanderers. But first of all, unfortunately, we have to pick a player from Spurs.
00:23:31
Speaker
While we decide who we're going to do, we'll be back just after this break.

Conclusion & Thank You

00:24:19
Speaker
team. We've gone through all of the good teams in the Premier League and now unfortunately we have to pick a player from the worst of the bunch. Tottenham Hotspur. Let's pull this puzzle up nice and quickly. Josh.
00:24:33
Speaker
We'll come to you first. Spurs, I could only think of one player that I'd actually want is even a strong word, like to see in Arsenal colours. Who have you gone for? You know, they've got a few players that I would take, but I think... One player that just edited is Van Der Binh, you know. I think I take him. I think defensively, number one, he's quick. The guy is probably lying and fast. You know, and I think he's a decent defender. And I think, you know, he, would he start for us? Oh, I don't think we'll start, but he'd definitely knock on the door. He wouldn't start, but he'd be really good cover to have. Yeah. Like really, really good cover to have. So yeah, Van Der Binh for me. He was my pick as well, Josh. You're a very wise Josh.
00:25:19
Speaker
Cheers Josh. i wories
00:25:22
Speaker
Jamie. Spurs. Two players in mind really and Van de Ven was one. yeah and Another one. I'll give you a clue. Really?
00:25:36
Speaker
That was one of my picks, to be fair. i James Madison. Yeah. I know, I... to face Yeah, listen guys, if you could see Josh Vince's face right now, it's like, it's just, he's disgusted. He's disgusted.
00:25:56
Speaker
Wow. Okay. Which one of those two are you picking, Jamie? Really?
00:26:08
Speaker
show ah good on eighty then He's decent. Would you have taken him if he was at Leicester? No. oh I don't rate him, but this is your pick. I will not glad to judge um will just pull faces. but um Right, I think, to be honest honest though, i'm again,
00:26:34
