How do the seeds of inspiration grow into an actual thing? What are ways to overcome doubt and push an idea forward?   And when do you know that it is time to say "I'm done" and put a project to rest?

00:00:37
Speaker
Hello and welcome to Stay Sparked.
00:00:39
Speaker
We are three longtime friends here to share inspiration with you and hopefully spread the sparks.
00:00:44
Speaker
I am Betsy.
00:00:46
Speaker
I'm Healtheon.
00:00:47
Speaker
And I am Giannis.
00:00:49
Speaker
Thank you guys so much for listening.
00:00:52
Speaker
We are loving receiving reviews from you on Apple Podcasts.
00:00:55
Speaker
And now we have an Instagram channel where you can leave comments, where we can actually communicate back with you.
00:01:01
Speaker
So please find us on Instagram, stay sparked.
00:01:05
Speaker
So we love starting with gratitude.
00:01:07
Speaker
So I'd love to hear from you, Halcyon.
00:01:09
Speaker
What are you grateful for today?
00:01:12
Speaker
I am feeling grateful for the opportunity to share gratitude or to let people know how much they mean to you.
00:01:20
Speaker
I visited my old neighborhood and got to say thank you to some of my friends' parents that I hadn't seen forever.
00:01:29
Speaker
And it just felt so good to let them know that the impact that they had on me when I was a little kid was something that I still remembered.
00:01:35
Speaker
So I'm grateful for that opportunity.
00:01:38
Speaker
Words of acknowledgement.
00:01:39
Speaker
That really does make a difference.
00:01:42
Speaker
Awesome.
00:01:42
Speaker
How about you, Yanus?
00:01:45
Speaker
I would be remiss if I did not express my gratitude for the blessing way that was held for my partner and I over the weekend, organized by dear, dear friend who organized a bunch of ladies together to celebrate my partner as she is about to give birth next month.
00:02:05
Speaker
And it was just sweet in all the ways.
00:02:07
Speaker
It was fantastic.
00:02:08
Speaker
Thank you so much to you, Betsy, and everybody else who made it happen.
00:02:15
Speaker
So beautiful.
00:02:16
Speaker
It was an honor to get to be the lead auntie in this special ceremony, welcoming this rite of passage.
00:02:23
Speaker
So beautiful.
00:02:23
Speaker
Thanks.
00:02:25
Speaker
I will share my gratitude for nature.
00:02:29
Speaker
Nature just does it for me.
00:02:30
Speaker
It just brings me home into presence, whether that's the ocean or the trees or just the breeze, the birds, nature.

Creative Projects and Personal Journeys

00:02:39
Speaker
It's just, I'm so grateful to be able to be inspired by nature.
00:02:45
Speaker
You're here.
00:02:48
Speaker
All right.
00:02:49
Speaker
So we are going to dive into a curious conversation here about creative projects.
00:02:56
Speaker
We all are creatives.
00:02:58
Speaker
We all have brought projects to life on our life journey.
00:03:02
Speaker
We've also put projects to rest.
00:03:05
Speaker
in our experiences.
00:03:06
Speaker
And so we wanted to give you guys out there, some listeners out here, and also to each other, a little peek behind the curtain around how we got to be where we are, insight into some of the projects that we have been pouring our love into, other projects that we have put to rest.
00:03:24
Speaker
And so we're going to get curious with each other.
00:03:26
Speaker
So love to start off with something.
00:03:29
Speaker
Actually, I'm really curious with Halcyon.
00:03:33
Speaker
So you created this project that is called Love Mornings, and it has been a dedicated practice of yours to show up every morning online at 9 a.m.
00:03:45
Speaker
on your Facebook channel, sharing your love, bringing people together, asking them what they're grateful for.
00:03:51
Speaker
It is really inspiring.
00:03:54
Speaker
And I'm so curious.
00:03:56
Speaker
How did this come to life?
00:03:58
Speaker
And how is that for you holding that kind of project for so long now with such consistency?
00:04:06
Speaker
Wow.
00:04:07
Speaker
Well, it actually, it's seeds came when I was at an ayahuasca retreat and was challenged by the organizer to
00:04:22
Speaker
take the lessons, take the inspiration, and how am I going to practice that in the world?
00:04:28
Speaker
So I was trying to figure out how can I infuse more love into the world?
00:04:33
Speaker
And so my first thought was like, I'm going to go online every morning and just say, I love you to everybody that pops in the Facebook Live.
00:04:40
Speaker
And this was during the pandemic.
00:04:42
Speaker
And it was beautiful.
00:04:45
Speaker
But then it took a crisp
00:04:49
Speaker
of sharpening when i when as the pandemic started to open up i realized that my kind of connection muscles had had atrophied and i would go out into the world with my head down and just run my errands and get back to my house and i was like man i used to say hello to people you know i used to wave at strangers and
00:05:11
Speaker
And so the love morning became like a support group to say, hey, let's all remind each other that we have the ability to be love ambassadors in the world.
00:05:20
Speaker
Let's just remind each other that it takes a little effort.
00:05:23
Speaker
But if we lift our heads and look at each other, that it really can make a difference.
00:05:26
Speaker
And so it's partially a huge part of it was recognizing what do I need?
00:05:33
Speaker
what is something that would be useful to me and inviting people to join me.
00:05:38
Speaker
And so it becomes this kind of collective, uh, like a, a meetup, or I think of it like as a bullpen, like when I see on cop shows, when the cops are in the morning, okay, here's what we got on the, on the agenda today.
00:05:49
Speaker
It's like, okay, guys, we gotta go out and spread a lot of love today.
00:05:52
Speaker
Let's do this.
00:05:53
Speaker
Um, and, and after, you know, three years or so, what it feels like is, um,
00:06:00
Speaker
like a practice, you know, like a yoga practice or a meditation practice.
00:06:04
Speaker
It's, it is something that, that is, is something that is critical to my maintaining my mindset.
00:06:16
Speaker
Yeah.
00:06:16
Speaker
I mean, we, we, we will talk a little about putting things to rest.
00:06:19
Speaker
And there was a time when I was trying to decide which projects I needed to close down to make space and
00:06:28
Speaker
When I thought about is it time to end Love Morning, it was like, well, no matter what the result is for other people, I need it.
00:06:38
Speaker
It is a practice that aids me.
00:06:40
Speaker
So I'm going to keep putting my energy into it because it is so nourishing for me.
00:06:46
Speaker
I love that so much.
00:06:47
Speaker
Yeah.
00:06:47
Speaker
You check it in with your heart and the why, right?
00:06:51
Speaker
Why you're doing something.
00:06:52
Speaker
And if it's really like coming from that place of that, that inner wellspring of joy, then yeah.
00:06:58
Speaker
Keep following that.
00:07:00
Speaker
That's so beautiful.
00:07:01
Speaker
Great.
00:07:03
Speaker
Interesting.
00:07:03
Speaker
I don't know why, but I'm moved to comment on a television show that I'm just barely familiar with, but I saw a clip from it of this monologue that a guy gave the lead character.
00:07:16
Speaker
It's a show called The Bear, which is about a guy, a chef, a younger guy, but takes over a restaurant.
00:07:25
Speaker
And the food is amazing.
00:07:26
Speaker
Everybody loves it.
00:07:27
Speaker
And he is an absolutely miserable person.
00:07:29
Speaker
And the show kind of really dives into that and it's like his misery and his unhappiness and everything else.
00:07:34
Speaker
But it's kind of played a little played a little bit for last, but also play for for, you know, tragic effect.
00:07:40
Speaker
And but somebody asked him, I was like, well, if you're not if you're so unhappy, then why do you do this?
00:07:45
Speaker
And he's like, he never considered.
00:07:47
Speaker
He's like, what's what does my happiness have to do with this?
00:07:50
Speaker
He's like, the people need to eat.
00:07:52
Speaker
The people need food.
00:07:53
Speaker
The people need what I have and what I'm capable of giving them.
00:07:57
Speaker
So I give it.
00:07:59
Speaker
My happiness is beside the point.
00:08:00
Speaker
It's like, this is not about me.
00:08:02
Speaker
This is about them.
00:08:02
Speaker
I'm here.
00:08:03
Speaker
I'm a servant.
00:08:04
Speaker
That's it.
00:08:05
Speaker
And so stop coming at me with this, these, these questions.
00:08:10
Speaker
Like he didn't even want to really consider it that if he was, he might be happier doing something else, but he was so good at what he does that he felt that he just had to do it.
00:08:19
Speaker
And, and it was like, huh.
00:08:21
Speaker
And I'd never really considered that.
00:08:22
Speaker
I don't know that I agree with it, but I get it.
00:08:25
Speaker
So, so, and I think,
00:08:28
Speaker
The healthier thing is to do what Halcyon is doing and be like, no, this is good for me.
00:08:33
Speaker
And it happens to be good for a lot of other people.
00:08:35
Speaker
So I'm going to continue doing this because it nurtures something in me that I want to nurture.
00:08:41
Speaker
But yeah, it's a different opposite ends of the spectrum approach to kind of doing the same thing.
00:08:46
Speaker
Totally.
00:08:47
Speaker
And everybody does things differently.
00:08:49
Speaker
I love that perspective, though, because, yeah, if he feels called or if someone feels called to share a skill because it's needed, even though it might not bring them joy, there's some kind of fuel inside of them that are that's getting them to do that.
00:09:05
Speaker
You know, I, I don't resonate with that either.
00:09:08
Speaker
I want to follow my joy.
00:09:09
Speaker
Yeah.
00:09:10
Speaker
Whenever I create, uh, if it's coming from joy, then I'm going to create it even more efficiently and more effectively because if it's coming from a place of like feeling like I have to do the thing, then it just comes from this like density and this kind of like a trudging along.
00:09:27
Speaker
Yeah.
00:09:27
Speaker
Yeah.
00:09:28
Speaker
And I feel that that is an important point because the joy is what makes it sustainable.
00:09:34
Speaker
If you're constantly giving, giving, giving, and there's nothing coming back to fill your cup, that is that you're that thing you're doing as an expiration date on it is probably not that far off.
00:09:45
Speaker
So I would imagine and I want to ask you, Betsy, about, um,
00:09:53
Speaker
Let's say when I first met you, you were super into the clothing and to upcycling.
00:10:00
Speaker
And I imagine that that brought you a certain amount of joy that you were then able to kind of spark joy in other people.
00:10:07
Speaker
How did that flow for you?
00:10:08
Speaker
I think you've spoken before about how it got started, but I'm interested to hear.
00:10:12
Speaker
I mean, you could touch on that a little bit, but I am interested in how you chose to wrap that up.
00:10:17
Speaker
How did that chapter wrap up for you?
00:10:20
Speaker
Yeah.
00:10:21
Speaker
Yeah.
00:10:21
Speaker
So a little backstories.
00:10:24
Speaker
Yeah.
00:10:24
Speaker
I was a clothing designer for about 10 years, primarily using upcycled clothing.
00:10:31
Speaker
So repurposing clothing and really teaching people how to transform their already existing clothing into wearable art, which was an amazing journey.
00:10:41
Speaker
It was just a wonderful time of my life.
00:10:45
Speaker
My creative expression came online and it felt really good to empower people to
00:10:50
Speaker
for quite some time.
00:10:51
Speaker
And it actually took probably close to two years to unwind and put to rest that part of my expression in the world, my business, my identity was so wrapped up in it.
00:11:06
Speaker
But I knew there was a moment when I knew that it was coming to a close.
00:11:12
Speaker
And there was this very specific moment that I can remember.
00:11:16
Speaker
I had just come back from an event.
00:11:18
Speaker
I was doing vending, which, you know, it takes a very specific type of person to do vending.
00:11:23
Speaker
You know, we've all been to art fairs and festivals and things.
00:11:26
Speaker
And it can be a lot to bring all your things there and share your art with the world and have all these passerbys come through and either buy your art, judge your art, diss your art, you know.
00:11:37
Speaker
all the things that come along.
00:11:38
Speaker
And so I had come home from a pretty big event and I had my clothes, the clothing that I didn't sell.
00:11:46
Speaker
I had it on a rack and I was like thumbing through it.
00:11:49
Speaker
And I just felt my heart just drooping.
00:11:52
Speaker
I just felt this like, Oh my God, that was a lot of work.
00:11:56
Speaker
And it was not fun.
00:11:59
Speaker
Everything was dirty.
00:12:01
Speaker
I was dirty.
00:12:02
Speaker
I didn't make that much money.
00:12:04
Speaker
You know, I didn't really even have that much fun.
00:12:07
Speaker
And I just felt this like, whereas, you know, previous events, I would come home and be so lit up and so grateful and so inspired and alive and, you
00:12:19
Speaker
Fuel to create and I just felt it coming on and I was like, no, this is not bringing me the joy anymore.
00:12:27
Speaker
And then the other part of the insight that came from knowing that it was time to shift was that my main passion for starting an upcycled clothing line was because of my
00:12:40
Speaker
building awareness around the fashion industry and how wasteful it is.
00:12:45
Speaker
And as we know, we can even see now that from the satellites, there's mountains of clothes that are, you know, needing to get cleaned up and it's a very dirty industry.
00:12:55
Speaker
And so I wanted to contribute to making a difference.
00:12:58
Speaker
But I actually realized that I was kind of contributing to the waste problem.
00:13:03
Speaker
It was not really making as much of a difference as I was hoping that it would.
00:13:07
Speaker
And so I started to really check in with myself in that process.
00:13:10
Speaker
So like I said, it took about two years to really unwind, but I was really inquiring, how can I make a difference in the world with my unique gifts?
00:13:20
Speaker
How can I make a positive impact in the world by doing what I love?
00:13:24
Speaker
What does that look like?
00:13:25
Speaker
What is the next phase of my creative expression going to look like?
00:13:30
Speaker
And it was a process.
00:13:32
Speaker
It was a real deep process of, I feel like it's the unwinding, that attachment to the identity that I built, the attachment to the creativity, all of my materials.
00:13:44
Speaker
When you're doing something for a long time or you're in relationship for a long time, it can take some time to
00:13:50
Speaker
to shift out of it.
00:13:52
Speaker
And so, yeah, that was probably about eight years ago, maybe seven or eight years ago that I put it to rest.

Letting Go and Evolving Projects

00:13:59
Speaker
And you've been naked ever since.
00:14:00
Speaker
I've been naked ever since.
00:14:02
Speaker
Yep.
00:14:02
Speaker
Totally.
00:14:03
Speaker
You know, it's like so interesting, you know, I know for those of you, YouTube watchers out there, I'm probably naked right now.
00:14:11
Speaker
We're actually just trying to build some YouTube followers.
00:14:17
Speaker
Yeah, so that's a little peek, you know, and I think that the other part is for me that feels relevant to share is just around the identity that I had built around being a clothing designer and being somebody who makes my own clothes.
00:14:30
Speaker
And I saw I saw this fancy little box that I stitched around myself with this pretty little bows and I was like, oh my God, I'm stuck in this identity.
00:14:39
Speaker
How do I get out of it?
00:14:41
Speaker
And it was very illuminating to see that there was more parts of me that was wanting to be expressed and to be birthed.
00:14:53
Speaker
That is resonating so many chords in me.
00:14:57
Speaker
Yeah, I'd love to share a little bit of my experience.
00:15:05
Speaker
putting to rest my leadership of my Burning Man camp.
00:15:09
Speaker
I haven't really articulated this, but as you spoke, some things really clicked in me.
00:15:18
Speaker
13 years ago or 14 years ago, I helped start a camp that was this beautiful, like literally a dream.
00:15:25
Speaker
And we were able to, with the help of a bunch of people, you know, made it happen.
00:15:29
Speaker
And then last year, I stepped down from leadership.
00:15:34
Speaker
And so much went through me as far as that identity thing.
00:15:39
Speaker
Like I am, my connection to this group, to this project was so deep that it had been very difficult.
00:15:50
Speaker
And I was trying to figure, well, how, like,
00:15:53
Speaker
But one of the things that happened was part of the beauty of the experience was I, I articulated a vision and then really trusted that people could shape it in the way that they wanted to.
00:16:07
Speaker
And it became something much more beautiful than I could do what I ever thought of on my own.
00:16:11
Speaker
And then, you know, a couple of years ago, uh,
00:16:16
Speaker
It was designed to be an esplanade camp.
00:16:20
Speaker
It was designed to be on the kind of boardwalk so that it would be a beacon and people would see it and we would draw people in.
00:16:25
Speaker
And so a lot of my thoughts about it were really focused on this location.
00:16:30
Speaker
And so when it was moved by the organization to in the middle of the city, most people were like, not a big deal.
00:16:38
Speaker
Everyone's in the middle of the city.
00:16:39
Speaker
And I really struggled to try to kind of come to peace with that.
00:16:43
Speaker
But a part of me was really just tugged with that.
00:16:45
Speaker
That's not the vision.
00:16:46
Speaker
That's not my vision.
00:16:47
Speaker
That's not my vision.
00:16:49
Speaker
And I think what I finally realized is that what it is in the city is something absolutely beautiful.
00:16:57
Speaker
And my attachment to the original vision is holding it back.
00:17:03
Speaker
Like the whole organization can be something else without me always reminding people or thinking to myself, it's not what it was.
00:17:13
Speaker
And I was like, okay, it's time for me to let this, you know, let this thing grow in ways that are beyond me.
00:17:23
Speaker
Hmm.
00:17:24
Speaker
Yes.
00:17:25
Speaker
It's like an entity in its own.
00:17:26
Speaker
Totally.
00:17:27
Speaker
Yeah.
00:17:27
Speaker
Yeah.
00:17:28
Speaker
I love that so much because we like get to be these hosts for these creative projects and ideas to come alive.
00:17:37
Speaker
And then they start to take on a life of their own and become an entity of its own.
00:17:41
Speaker
Like pink heart is its own being is a living, breathing entity, you know, and it changes lives and it creates a safe space for,
00:17:50
Speaker
people to come to to have ice cream or whatever it is.
00:17:54
Speaker
Right.
00:17:54
Speaker
Same thing with like, you know, my current project, the Power Affirmation Project, it's a living, breathing being.
00:18:01
Speaker
I get to be the host for this creative idea to come through me and tend to its growth, but it really is something much bigger.
00:18:10
Speaker
And so I'd love to inquire with you, Yanis, around your project because
00:18:15
Speaker
know i've known you for over a decade and it was maybe what six years ago five six years ago that you started new world nutritionals which i think is now also going to be called red moon organics which is a nutritional supplement company that really helps with all kinds of different neurological ailments and it's been doing really well so i'd love to know where was that spark for you when did you know that you were like oh
00:18:41
Speaker
Yes, I am doing this.

Business and Personal Fulfillment

00:18:44
Speaker
This is something I'm going to build a business around because you've come so far now.
00:18:49
Speaker
What was that spark for you?
00:18:52
Speaker
That spark was...
00:18:56
Speaker
Needing to, like having some of my own, I know for want of a better term, ailments that I was dealing with and not wanting to use pharmaceuticals to try to alleviate, you know, these symptoms of, you know, executive dysfunction and or depression.
00:19:16
Speaker
So, yeah.
00:19:17
Speaker
doing some research into how to treat this.
00:19:20
Speaker
And one thing that kept coming up was microdosing psilocybin, which I was like, oh, okay, I can try that.
00:19:29
Speaker
I had some experience in the psychedelic realm.
00:19:33
Speaker
So I tried that.
00:19:34
Speaker
The change and improvement was immediate.
00:19:38
Speaker
But then a couple of things came along with that.
00:19:41
Speaker
The shortened version is that
00:19:46
Speaker
After about a week or so of that microdosing, I started getting headaches, which is a common thing for continued microdosing.
00:19:56
Speaker
There are compounds to help them.
00:20:00
Speaker
The headaches connected with that were about...
00:20:04
Speaker
a lack of choline in the brain.
00:20:06
Speaker
So then I started adding choline to that and then that solved the headache problem.
00:20:09
Speaker
And then ended up creating a stack that I started using and my friends noticed that I was doing better.
00:20:14
Speaker
They're like, oh, you seem better.
00:20:16
Speaker
What's going on?
00:20:17
Speaker
I'm like, oh, I'm doing this thing.
00:20:19
Speaker
I'm like, oh, maybe that would work for my brother or my mom or my, you know, my, you know, my girlfriend.
00:20:25
Speaker
So I was like, well, you know, here, here, just something has tried it.
00:20:29
Speaker
And so I would just make it for friends and then to, to great results.
00:20:33
Speaker
And then I started hearing from people who I didn't know, like friends of friends, like, Hey, so-and-so gave me your number and,
00:20:38
Speaker
said that you had this awesome product.
00:20:40
Speaker
And I was like, well, and after enough of those phone calls and emails, I was like, maybe this is something I can do, but I'll need to start like taking some money and so I can provide it to more people.
00:20:50
Speaker
And that was essentially the birth of new world nutritionals.
00:20:53
Speaker
And then, which is now like, as you mentioned, turning into a red moon, evolving into red moon organics at the beginning of 2024.
00:21:01
Speaker
And, but yeah, business is booming.
00:21:05
Speaker
And it's one of those things like,
00:21:07
Speaker
kind of filling a market need that I didn't really, you know, I kind of thought might be there, but it really kicked off when the pandemic kind of like came in.
00:21:15
Speaker
And then my sales just kind of started going through the roof.
00:21:18
Speaker
It was like, okay, so I'm onto something here.
00:21:20
Speaker
So, but it felt, and I've been affiliated with a few different business endeavors and,
00:21:29
Speaker
It feels, I have to say, it feels really good to be providing something that's not necessarily just like a pet rock or, you know, it's like a widget, like something that is actually like helping a lot of people and doing and really like making a difference in people's lives.
00:21:46
Speaker
And that just that just feels good.
00:21:47
Speaker
It feels good to me to be of service to, you know, in that way.
00:21:51
Speaker
And this is still a.
00:21:53
Speaker
you know, kind of a dream of mine that is, that's requiring a bit of nurturing on my part.
00:21:59
Speaker
It hasn't yet gotten to the state where it's become its own like entity.
00:22:04
Speaker
Like I'm still very much like in the saddle, you know, hand on the reins, kind of spurring it on.
00:22:10
Speaker
I'm like, come on, we can, you got it.
00:22:11
Speaker
We can do this.
00:22:11
Speaker
We can do this.
00:22:12
Speaker
And seeing a vision of where I wanted to get to.
00:22:15
Speaker
I had definitely been involved with things that took on a life of its own.
00:22:20
Speaker
My first, my first real dream is to touch on it briefly.
00:22:24
Speaker
Because I feel like we come up with a lot of dreams, maybe as young as, you know, children or even as adults where, you know,
00:22:33
Speaker
It's a valid dream for a while, but we are always these changing, evolving beings.
00:22:40
Speaker
We are never the set kind of person who Halsey and Betsy and myself are is not who we were five years ago.
00:22:48
Speaker
It will not be who we are five years from now.
00:22:50
Speaker
A lot of times, we take these dreams along with us.
00:22:55
Speaker
We drag them into our next incarnation.
00:23:00
Speaker
it's important to recognize when your, your dreams are not your dreams anymore.
00:23:04
Speaker
Um, they were, but it's a, it's a tough thing to like, let go of, um, for the, you know, for my, throughout my entire childhood, I was, I wrapped and wrapped with movies.
00:23:14
Speaker
I wanted to make movies and I went to film school.
00:23:17
Speaker
I went to USC film school, which was just something that not a lot of people knew, uh, that got me to, um, move to Los Angeles from,
00:23:25
Speaker
washington from seattle and it's a very the entertainment industry is a very cutthroat industry it's very it was game of thrones before anybody heard of game of thrones it's a lot of backbiting and everything else a lot of egos and for that five years
00:23:41
Speaker
My first five years in LA, I was trying to make it in the entertainment industry.
00:23:45
Speaker
And those were... And at a certain point, I realized that these were the five unhappiest years of my life.
00:23:52
Speaker
And was just like, wow, what am I doing?
00:23:55
Speaker
This is like this dream I had.
00:23:56
Speaker
It's just like not...
00:23:58
Speaker
You know, not it's just not happening.
00:24:00
Speaker
So and there's people that are, you know, they're like, no, you got it.
00:24:03
Speaker
Like, it takes time.
00:24:04
Speaker
He's like, you got it.
00:24:05
Speaker
Like, you know, you got to keep it going.
00:24:06
Speaker
And I was just like, no, I felt like I'd done five years of my life.
00:24:10
Speaker
I'm like, I'm not doing this.
00:24:12
Speaker
And that kind of speaks to Halcyon's.
00:24:16
Speaker
you know, the idea about the pink heart, you know, the pink heart can't be moved and just, you know, kind of deviating from your vision.
00:24:24
Speaker
A lot of dreams are connected to, you know, our, our, our, you know, kind of at the behest of other people's whims.
00:24:32
Speaker
Like I like, I need a lot.
00:24:35
Speaker
I've got this dream, but I need a lot of people to like,
00:24:38
Speaker
help me make this happen.
00:24:39
Speaker
And then I realized like, okay, that's not the kind of dream I want to have.
00:24:42
Speaker
I want to be able to do my thing the way I want to do it.
00:24:45
Speaker
And then to do it the thing, the way it wants to be done.
00:24:48
Speaker
It can be a challenge when we do some, when we have a dream and, you know, creating a team is fine, but then if,
00:24:55
Speaker
if it's, you know, subject to the kind of the winds of fate, you know, shall we say it can, it can be tricky.
00:25:00
Speaker
It can be, it can be tricky to kind of navigate those, those changes in tide.
00:25:06
Speaker
So yeah, there's, it's a, it's a lot to hold on to hold on to a drink.
00:25:12
Speaker
Your story makes me think of, I saw a, a meme or something that said, people say that, you know, winners never quit, but that's not true at all.
00:25:21
Speaker
Winners know when to quit.
00:25:23
Speaker
Yeah.
00:25:24
Speaker
Mm-hmm.
00:25:25
Speaker
Yes.
00:25:27
Speaker
Yes.
00:25:28
Speaker
Yeah, that actually sparked something for me too in my process around the idea of success.
00:25:33
Speaker
Because when I was in my stage of being a clothing designer in that world, the idea that I had that if I get my clothing in stores all around the world and I'm a well-known designer, then I'm successful.
00:25:50
Speaker
And I made it big.
00:25:51
Speaker
you know, and I was kind of going through this process around, did I fail?
00:25:55
Speaker
Maybe I'm failing if I'm going to put this to rest.
00:25:58
Speaker
But when I finally put it to rest, I actually looked back and go, wow, that was actually quite successful.
00:26:03
Speaker
I was able to, you know, have a clothing line that sustained my lifestyle for

Transition and New Beginnings

00:26:09
Speaker
many years.
00:26:09
Speaker
It took me around the world, getting to do what I love, meeting amazing people.
00:26:14
Speaker
And I started to redefine what my idea of success was.
00:26:17
Speaker
is and was.
00:26:18
Speaker
And I think that that was a really huge breakthrough for me to be able to move on to the next phase of my expression, my next phase of my offerings in the world.
00:26:29
Speaker
man i am so glad that you are coaching people betsy you have such good perspectives but i i want to ask you about um the power affirmation journal um it's i saw that picture recently of you sitting on a palette of this you know product that you've created um but i first i want to ask you i mean it i i have a copy it is so beautiful it is so it's a gorgeous
00:26:57
Speaker
creation and i'm wondering like how did you like get to a point where like it's done like this is it's now like or yeah how did you know or how did you not get say that too early
00:27:13
Speaker
Yeah, right.
00:27:13
Speaker
Yeah, I know.
00:27:14
Speaker
Right.
00:27:14
Speaker
When you make art, you know, like, you know, when it's done.
00:27:18
Speaker
So to give a little context for those listening out there, there's I created a journal about three years ago called the Power Affirmation Journal, and it took quite some time and energy to create it.
00:27:28
Speaker
And
00:27:30
Speaker
I don't know if it's ever done.
00:27:32
Speaker
You know, I'm really grateful for this most recent leap that I've taken to become published.
00:27:41
Speaker
I'm so grateful.
00:27:42
Speaker
I was approached by publisher and this whole time I've been doing it myself and finding printers and, you know, the
00:27:49
Speaker
biggest amount of copies that I had ever printed in one go around was 500.
00:27:55
Speaker
And now my publisher is like, let's start with 5,000.
00:27:57
Speaker
So that was the mountain you saw.
00:28:02
Speaker
And that's the fourth edition.
00:28:04
Speaker
It's continuously being refined.
00:28:07
Speaker
And it feels important to not really ever be done.
00:28:14
Speaker
you know, there is something really valuable about allowing that what I like to consider the upward spiral and the continuous refinement of whatever it might be of our artistry, of our work in the world, of ourselves, of who, you know, who we are.
00:28:29
Speaker
And so, yeah, I feel like
00:28:30
Speaker
The spark I want to share with you too is because how did I get to now having a published journal, you know, from being a clothing designer and also doing bodywork?
00:28:40
Speaker
A lot of times people ask me like, well, wait, you do all these different things.
00:28:45
Speaker
I'm good at a lot of different things.
00:28:46
Speaker
How do they all weave together and how did I get to be where I am?
00:28:50
Speaker
And one of the things that I really allow to guide me is light.
00:28:55
Speaker
What is my highest expression?
00:28:57
Speaker
What is the way that I can share my light with the world?
00:29:01
Speaker
And it comes through in all these different ways.
00:29:04
Speaker
I love touching people, love doing body work.
00:29:06
Speaker
I love making clothing.
00:29:08
Speaker
I love making art.
00:29:10
Speaker
I love journaling.
00:29:12
Speaker
I love getting to put on events.
00:29:14
Speaker
I love community.
00:29:16
Speaker
And so I ask myself that question every day.
00:29:19
Speaker
How can I share my light with the world in a way today
00:29:23
Speaker
that is prosperous, that is impactful, that is rewarding, that is fun.
00:29:29
Speaker
And then watch all the different ways that I get to do that.
00:29:33
Speaker
And right now, the Power Affirmation Project is fueling so much of my inspiration.
00:29:38
Speaker
And it feels really, really good to be able to be at this stage, which a little more insight too.
00:29:44
Speaker
This is kind of interesting because we're talking about bringing projects to life and knowing when to put them to rest.
00:29:51
Speaker
So not even six or seven months ago, I was really in that contemplation around putting the Power Affirmation Journal to rest.
00:29:59
Speaker
It launched in 2020.
00:30:01
Speaker
It's been, there's probably about four to 5,000 copies out in the world.
00:30:04
Speaker
Thank you to so many of you out there who have bought a copy and have, you know, helps get it out in the world.
00:30:11
Speaker
But I was really in that contemplation around like, wow, this is a lot of work.
00:30:16
Speaker
I don't know if I want to do the distribution anymore.
00:30:18
Speaker
I don't know if I want to do all the printing anymore.
00:30:20
Speaker
And I was feeling a little overwhelmed and kind of sales had dropped.
00:30:25
Speaker
Paper costs had gone up.
00:30:26
Speaker
I was at this kind of like turning point.
00:30:29
Speaker
And what I ended up doing was I actually sat with the product as if it's its own being.
00:30:36
Speaker
It's a live being.
00:30:38
Speaker
It was a baby that I birthed and I had a conversation with it.
00:30:43
Speaker
I sat with the journal and I said, Hey,
00:30:45
Speaker
Hey, journal.
00:30:46
Speaker
Hey, babe.
00:30:47
Speaker
I love you.
00:30:47
Speaker
I'm so grateful for you.
00:30:49
Speaker
You have just changed my life and I'm so happy that we've been on this journey together.
00:30:52
Speaker
And and what do you need?
00:30:55
Speaker
Like, what's next?
00:30:57
Speaker
Do you want to keep going?
00:30:59
Speaker
Do you want to be done?
00:31:00
Speaker
Is there something else that wants to come through?
00:31:03
Speaker
I'm noticing some things are changing.
00:31:05
Speaker
There's a little bit of a plateau and really got genuinely curious with the entity of this project, not as of like my own ego.
00:31:15
Speaker
It felt really expansive to be in that place of curiosity with it.
00:31:20
Speaker
And then I started asking every day, even put it on my altar.
00:31:25
Speaker
I was like, okay, just show me what you need and want.
00:31:28
Speaker
I'm here.
00:31:28
Speaker
I'm listening.
00:31:29
Speaker
And then sure enough, I got a call from who is now my publisher from Earth's Elements.
00:31:34
Speaker
They were one of my main retailers.
00:31:36
Speaker
And they were like, hey, I know we haven't talked in a little while, but we are...
00:31:40
Speaker
You know, we built this publishing company now and we're ready to go bigger and we want to, you know, we want to bring 5,000 journals out into the world.
00:31:48
Speaker
And so it was like, all right, I'm listening.
00:31:52
Speaker
I guess you want to keep going.
00:31:53
Speaker
Yeah.
00:31:55
Speaker
You know, so there's something really powerful about being, you know, in that deep place of curiosity and listening and getting out of the way and staying humble, you know, because that's

Overcoming Doubt and Seeking Support

00:32:06
Speaker
not easy.
00:32:06
Speaker
I was like really facing some places of going like, well, if I put this to rest, does that mean I failed?
00:32:12
Speaker
Am I in my own personal patterns of feeling like I can't go big or, you know, all of that kind of stuff comes up when putting ourselves out there and being an entrepreneur.
00:32:24
Speaker
Man, I certainly that I'm so impressed.
00:32:30
Speaker
I so love hearing that.
00:32:31
Speaker
And I so appreciate that you're sharing on that.
00:32:34
Speaker
I have three books, two that are published.
00:32:40
Speaker
And the first book that I wrote, I...
00:32:45
Speaker
I, the only reason I published it is because I had a voice on my shoulder that was so cruel to me that kept saying, oh, oh, how's that book coming?
00:32:52
Speaker
Huh?
00:32:52
Speaker
When'd you get to write a book?
00:32:53
Speaker
Huh?
00:32:54
Speaker
When you gonna write a book?
00:32:54
Speaker
Huh?
00:32:55
Speaker
When you gonna write a book?
00:32:55
Speaker
Huh?
00:32:56
Speaker
Anytime I would start to like, feel good about myself.
00:32:59
Speaker
And so I just,
00:33:02
Speaker
pulled together a whole bunch of blog posts and self-published a book and actually brought it to Burning Man, just a couple of copies that I just was gonna burn at the temple to like try to excise this demon that kept attacking me for not being enough and not doing enough.
00:33:19
Speaker
And then a number of cat mates saw it and asked for copies.
00:33:22
Speaker
And now a lot of people have enjoyed it.
00:33:25
Speaker
So I'm like, okay.
00:33:27
Speaker
But there's something like,
00:33:31
Speaker
The unpublished one, I'm afraid.
00:33:34
Speaker
I'm so afraid.
00:33:35
Speaker
Like, as long as it's undone, I know it could be awesome.
00:33:41
Speaker
You know, the minute that I'm afraid that if I publish it and I finish it and nobody cares, like, I'm not that I'm not ready for that.
00:33:51
Speaker
You know, and as long as it stays undone, I can keep that belief that it's going to be amazing.
00:33:57
Speaker
It's going to be amazing.
00:33:58
Speaker
So I guess, do either of you guys struggle with that?
00:34:04
Speaker
Oh, yeah.
00:34:04
Speaker
So, so vulnerable to put yourself out there.
00:34:07
Speaker
It's like, ah.
00:34:08
Speaker
ah, you pour all this love and energy into something.
00:34:11
Speaker
And then you like, but all this pressure, you know, and then it's like, oh, kind of, is it safe to put it out in the world?
00:34:19
Speaker
You know, is this okay to, to like be so exposed?
00:34:23
Speaker
It's, it's so edgy and so scary because yeah, what if somebody doesn't like it?
00:34:29
Speaker
Or, you know, I mean, I think you're a master of putting yourself out in the world, Halcyon, you share so much of your life and so much of your
00:34:37
Speaker
you know, process with the world.
00:34:38
Speaker
It's a very vulnerable place.
00:34:40
Speaker
And you've been met again and again with all kinds of different responses.
00:34:44
Speaker
And so it's like that with everything, you know, it's going to be the same thing with your book.
00:34:49
Speaker
It's going to be so many people are going to be like, wow,
00:34:51
Speaker
that's amazing.
00:34:52
Speaker
And there's going to also be those people that are going to be like, judge, judge, judge, criticize, criticize, criticize.
00:34:58
Speaker
And really, I feel like the big spark here is really being willing to put ourselves out there at the risk of, you know, being judged or it failing, you know, because that is
00:35:11
Speaker
what we're

Community Service and Impact

00:35:12
Speaker
here to do.
00:35:12
Speaker
We're here to share whatever it is that is naturally wanting to come through us.
00:35:16
Speaker
And I feel like when we allow service, like you mentioned, how can I serve?
00:35:21
Speaker
How can I bring goodness to the world?
00:35:24
Speaker
Then hopefully it will make a difference in at least one person's life.
00:35:28
Speaker
And that's what matters.
00:35:29
Speaker
That's what we need.
00:35:30
Speaker
This world needs more people to bring their joy, bring their light, bring their creative projects out into the world to make this world a better place.
00:35:39
Speaker
This is so helpful for me.
00:35:40
Speaker
I don't know if anyone's going to listen to this, but this is helpful for me because you're so like, like,
00:35:46
Speaker
I have this attachment to what success is when it comes to putting a book out there.
00:35:52
Speaker
Whereas with the other projects in my life, I have a much more healthier mindset that you were describing of like, how am I sharing light?
00:36:03
Speaker
Am I in alignment?
00:36:04
Speaker
Am I in integrity?
00:36:06
Speaker
And if I do it with integrity, then the number of people that it affects is irrelevant.
00:36:12
Speaker
You know, you know, I have a project for Saturdays that we've been doing for 13 years, you know, every month going and giving away things to the homeless.
00:36:21
Speaker
And, you know,
00:36:22
Speaker
How did it start?
00:36:23
Speaker
It just seemed like a good idea.
00:36:25
Speaker
And so we just, me and a friend did it and it was awesome.
00:36:29
Speaker
And he was of the tradition where he's like, you shouldn't talk publicly about your good deeds.
00:36:35
Speaker
And I was like, do you know me?
00:36:37
Speaker
Are you serious?
00:36:38
Speaker
So I'm like, well, I won't put your name in it.
00:36:40
Speaker
And so I shared on Facebook that, you know, I just gave away things to the homeless and it just felt so good.
00:36:46
Speaker
anybody want to donate and join us and then you know in the next month 10 people join us and then 15 and 20 we had like 75 people last weekend for first saturdays and and every time you know we run out of stuff every time there's it doesn't the everybody we give food to or clothing to the next day they're going to be hungry and i but it doesn't bother me because the goal isn't to
00:37:13
Speaker
do anything except be kind.
00:37:16
Speaker
And if I can, I think my solution here is what is that answer in publishing the book for me?
00:37:22
Speaker
And I don't know what that exactly is, but I'm gonna work on that, so thank you.
00:37:28
Speaker
Well, I think you touched on it.
00:37:30
Speaker
You think you both touched on it, the answer to that, which we can, it's funny how we selectively apply it, but that the point is the word attachment.
00:37:43
Speaker
And it's the big, it's one of the biggest lessons in, in some religious texts is to undergo action without attachment to the outcome.
00:37:52
Speaker
And that is usually the thing that kind of blooms into its own entity because we're not attached to what comes of that action.
00:37:59
Speaker
I'm just going to, I'm going to go.
00:38:02
Speaker
Feed the homeless with a buddy.
00:38:04
Speaker
And because it's the kind thing to do.
00:38:06
Speaker
And I like to be kind.
00:38:07
Speaker
That's how I want to show up in the world.
00:38:08
Speaker
And then it turns into this ongoing beautiful thing that multiple people have engaged with, that multiple people have benefited from.
00:38:17
Speaker
Much, much more beyond your initial intention.
00:38:21
Speaker
Because you weren't attached to what came of it.
00:38:24
Speaker
Same with Betsy's in crew, sitting with your power affirmation journal baby.
00:38:29
Speaker
And you know what?
00:38:31
Speaker
What do you want?
00:38:32
Speaker
What do you want to become?
00:38:34
Speaker
Is this you want to become more, stay the same, kind of just sit here on the shelf and that's it.
00:38:39
Speaker
And then you get your answer because you're not attached to what that looks like.
00:38:44
Speaker
Same with my business.
00:38:45
Speaker
It's turning and it's become this thing.
00:38:47
Speaker
I was just trying to like help myself.
00:38:49
Speaker
I wasn't like attached to anything about that.
00:38:51
Speaker
And then even just when I was making it for friends and even like under, you know, taking it on as a business, you know, whatever comes of it is fine.
00:38:57
Speaker
But as long as, you know, I'm out there helping people, if it turns out to be like, I sell 10 bottles a month, that's fine.
00:39:03
Speaker
That's 10 people helping being helped a month.
00:39:06
Speaker
So, so the thing that's, that's the thing I think that short circuits our dreams a lot of times and that are our projects is just being attached to what it, you know,
00:39:17
Speaker
our version of it, our vision of it.
00:39:19
Speaker
And these things often have their own, have their own ideas.
00:39:22
Speaker
So, I mean, so with, you know, with your book Halcyon, I feel like, yeah, just, you know, putting it out there,
00:39:30
Speaker
Just getting it done, putting it out there without any sort of like what that's going to be.
00:39:35
Speaker
I mean, you've been, you've been laughed at and ridiculed like a lot of times.
00:39:41
Speaker
Oh yeah.
00:39:41
Speaker
I got a, I got a whole, I got a whole spreadsheet.
00:39:44
Speaker
I can bring all the, all the, all the bad things.
00:39:46
Speaker
Yeah.
00:39:47
Speaker
Yeah.
00:39:47
Speaker
All the nasty things that have people, people have said about you.
00:39:50
Speaker
I got it framed for you.
00:39:51
Speaker
I'll put you on the wall.
00:39:53
Speaker
I might, I might, I might ask you to hold onto that.
00:39:56
Speaker
Yeah.
00:39:57
Speaker
But I mean, after a certain point, it's like, what can, honestly, I'm not sure what could be said to you or about you that hasn't already been said.
00:40:06
Speaker
Oh, so, okay.
00:40:06
Speaker
So that's, that's really interesting because I, I, I think what I'm most afraid is my self judgment, you know?
00:40:16
Speaker
Um, and, um,
00:40:18
Speaker
I had something, an epiphany last night, I was talking with my partner and saying that I'm afraid, I think, to put the goal out there of getting the book published and getting, because I mean, I could still publish it right now.
00:40:33
Speaker
It's not quite polished enough, but what I really want, I want to edit it to a point of excellence and I want it to be as good as possible.
00:40:43
Speaker
And then I want it to be published at a level where many people
00:40:47
Speaker
Read it.
00:40:47
Speaker
And even as I say it out loud, I'm afraid to say a number because I'm afraid to fail.
00:40:52
Speaker
And I think that it's... And the epiphany last night was my partner was like, it seems like you are so focused on the beating yourself up if you fail.
00:41:04
Speaker
But what if you could take that out?
00:41:06
Speaker
And what if you could just set the goal and it's okay if you fail that goal?
00:41:12
Speaker
And that is, I don't know, maybe it seems super simple as I say it out of my mouth, but that's, I don't know.
00:41:24
Speaker
Does that make sense what I said?
00:41:25
Speaker
Yes, it totally makes sense.
00:41:26
Speaker
I feel like so many people can relate to that, you know, because we are the ones that hold ourselves back.
00:41:32
Speaker
You know, and I completely understand that because it's like, oh, gosh, can I do this?
00:41:38
Speaker
So one of the things that I have found, too, is when you speak it out loud to somebody who loves you and who supports you and believes in you, then that is the first layer of accountability that we have to ourselves.
00:41:52
Speaker
Right.
00:41:52
Speaker
And I feel like that's another reason why it's so valuable to have people in our lives, surround ourselves with people that believe in us, because, you
00:42:01
Speaker
I mean, this might be a broad statement, but it feels like there's a large percentage of people that struggle with truly believing in ourselves, right?
00:42:10
Speaker
So having people around us that go, yes, I believe in you, then helps to cultivate that deep inner belief in oneself and that inner critic, the inner judge starts to get quieter.
00:42:21
Speaker
And that's one of the most important things around creating something and being successful is having that conviction.
00:42:28
Speaker
that no matter what, I know this is going to be successful.
00:42:31
Speaker
Even if it fails, it's still successful because I put my energy into creating something, right?
00:42:37
Speaker
I learned something that might be the success.
00:42:40
Speaker
I learned a valuable lesson in it, you know?
00:42:43
Speaker
And so for me, what I, um, I just shared this with a friend who's starting a creative project.
00:42:48
Speaker
Um, what I ended up doing when I,
00:42:51
Speaker
got the idea to create the power affirmation journal.
00:42:54
Speaker
It dropped in like many different ideas drop in.
00:42:57
Speaker
Of course we get tons of ideas all the time and certain ones we're going to put energy in certain ones, you know, we won't, but this one came in and it was like, I'm pretty sure I need to make this thing.
00:43:07
Speaker
Oh my God, this is really edgy.
00:43:09
Speaker
Okay.
00:43:09
Speaker
All right.
00:43:09
Speaker
Well, I'm going to call together a group of close friends was about eight friends.
00:43:15
Speaker
And I had a birthday circle and I shared vulnerably.
00:43:21
Speaker
okay, dear friends, I love you.
00:43:23
Speaker
I need you to hold me accountable to this dream, to this vision, to this goal.
00:43:26
Speaker
I want to make a journal in this next year.
00:43:29
Speaker
And it felt so like, oh my God, I can't believe I'm saying this out loud, you know, because it's really easy to just be internally going like, yeah, I want to make a journal, but I'm not going to tell anyone because then that way, if I don't do it, then it doesn't really matter.
00:43:43
Speaker
Right.
00:43:43
Speaker
But as soon as I speak it out loud and ask people to hold me accountable to it, then all of a sudden something changed.
00:43:50
Speaker
You know, and it was amazing because then that circle, they became my support network and they didn't even really have to do very much at all.
00:44:00
Speaker
They basically were like, okay, great.
00:44:01
Speaker
How about you send us an email every month just to see the progress?
00:44:05
Speaker
You know, and every once in a while they'd be like, Hey, how's that journal coming along?
00:44:09
Speaker
You know, and just that little inquiry was like, Ooh, you know, sometimes it brought stuff up and like, Ooh, I haven't really gotten very far along on it, you know?
00:44:17
Speaker
And other times it'd be like, Oh, okay.
00:44:18
Speaker
I did make a little bit of progress.
00:44:20
Speaker
You know, and it was like, I think that was a really, really important stage.
00:44:26
Speaker
Part of the process of creation is speaking out loud to people that believe in me to help me to be able to cultivate my own inner belief systems that I could create this thing that felt really big.

Collaboration and Goal Setting

00:44:38
Speaker
That's so huge.
00:44:40
Speaker
And I think that, like, as I was sharing with my beloved last night, I was feeling this, that feeling of what I can say that I want to do this.
00:44:50
Speaker
And if I don't, she's not going to judge me, you know, and I think that that in my personal journey, like, I need to
00:45:01
Speaker
have some compassion and befriend my inner critic so that, that I can be assured that that criticism, that attack, that judgment isn't waiting for me on the other side of failing if it happens.
00:45:17
Speaker
Yeah.
00:45:18
Speaker
The,
00:45:19
Speaker
There's so many sparks came up for me listening to you guys share that I feel and I want to kind of touch on what you guys said about the speaking it into reality.
00:45:34
Speaker
Like there's nothing that we can hold in our hands that has not been spoken.
00:45:40
Speaker
That might sound esoteric, but it's actually a reality.
00:45:46
Speaker
Somebody had to be like, let's create water bottles and we'll call the company Zulu.
00:45:54
Speaker
You have to speak that in order for this thing to exist.
00:45:58
Speaker
I think I want to make some Stay Sparked podcast stickers.
00:46:00
Speaker
Yeah.
00:46:01
Speaker
you get nobody just thinks that and then they just they just form they just create like you have to actually say it into existence and then it gets then you have the work that i think brings the wherewithal about to make it happen um that's just i i think you can look at everything that you can actually a physical thing that you can hold in your hands i think that's true for everything and as far as you know the idea of like well what if i aim for this thing and and i don't i don't get there um
00:46:31
Speaker
I kind of was something that told me, somebody told me long ago and it kind of resonated with me.
00:46:35
Speaker
It's like, well, the thing, how do you get the, how do you get to the moon?
00:46:38
Speaker
It's like, well, you aim for Saturn.
00:46:40
Speaker
You, you, you make this crazy goal.
00:46:43
Speaker
Like, how do I, how do I sell 5,000 books?
00:46:45
Speaker
It's like, you try to sell 20,000 books.
00:46:50
Speaker
And then he's like, you put, you put a goal that you honestly don't expect to reach.
00:46:54
Speaker
Like an outlandish goal.
00:46:56
Speaker
I'm going to sell 20,000 copies of my book.
00:46:58
Speaker
It's like,
00:46:59
Speaker
okay, and then that's what you're aiming for.
00:47:02
Speaker
You might actually hit that.
00:47:04
Speaker
But the idea that you might sell 5,000, I mean, that's 25% of your initial goal.
00:47:10
Speaker
It's probably, that's not that, not out of reach.
00:47:14
Speaker
So, and the kind of the last thing that kind of came up when you guys were speaking about, there's a saying that if you want to go fast, go alone.
00:47:25
Speaker
If you want to go far, go together.
00:47:28
Speaker
So at a certain point, your dreams, you need a team.
00:47:33
Speaker
You need some people to witness.
00:47:35
Speaker
You need some people to help.
00:47:37
Speaker
So when it comes to editing a book, I would dare say, you're an author.
00:47:44
Speaker
You're not an editor.
00:47:45
Speaker
You need somebody to edit this book for you.
00:47:48
Speaker
Create a team.
00:47:51
Speaker
Betsy's got a publisher.
00:47:51
Speaker
Yeah, I can self-publish, but
00:47:55
Speaker
ally yourself with a publisher, they can do the heavy lifting.
00:47:59
Speaker
You're the spark of this thing.
00:48:01
Speaker
Your soul is in the pages of this thing.
00:48:04
Speaker
All the distribution, all that stuff, there's people for that.
00:48:08
Speaker
And I'm kind of learning this with my own company.
00:48:10
Speaker
I can create a website.
00:48:12
Speaker
I can do all this stuff, but there's people who are really good at that.
00:48:17
Speaker
I need to get a team for my own project that will allow me to focus on
00:48:22
Speaker
the soul of it and creating that team is going to allow our dreams to take the next step to level up.
00:48:29
Speaker
Um, we can do it ourselves, but you know, we got to also respect like, you know, how much bandwidth we actually have.
00:48:36
Speaker
Um, and so, you know, instead of just letting our dreams kind of just, Oh, okay, if I can only do this or I'll eventually do this, it's like, we can,
00:48:43
Speaker
You know, there's there needs to be a bit of a handing off to, you know, like you like you've done with Pink Heart.
00:48:48
Speaker
Halcyon is just like, you know, it's like this is this can be good in somebody else's hands and I can just be the the, you know, the patriarch who kind of who kind of just enjoys enjoys enjoys the fruits of this tree that I planted that so many other people are nurturing.
00:49:06
Speaker
So, yeah.
00:49:09
Speaker
So, man, this is, I feel like we could talk forever and ever, and this is so inspiring.
00:49:16
Speaker
My brain is spinning, my heart is like inspired.
00:49:21
Speaker
I had one thing that I would love to just ask you, Betsy, which is, you know, as I saw you with all those books and
00:49:28
Speaker
You know, I know that like there's the how did you get there?
00:49:33
Speaker
You know, like what would like?
00:49:34
Speaker
But the thing that kept thinking in my mind is how many times did you have the opportunity, the voice inside you say, you know what?
00:49:44
Speaker
I think like, let's just, let's not go for that.
00:49:47
Speaker
Or there's, this is getting too hard, or I don't think people are going to like this.
00:49:51
Speaker
I mean, I know it's going to happen a thousand times the opportunity to not push forward.

Purpose and Joy in Creativity

00:49:56
Speaker
And how do you keep attached to your vision and not lose faith?
00:50:02
Speaker
That's a great question.
00:50:03
Speaker
Yeah, because doubt is a very real thing that I deal with and everyone deals with.
00:50:08
Speaker
And I think we spoke about this on a previous episode around learning how to put that inner critic, that doubting voice in the backseat.
00:50:17
Speaker
and to be able to keep going forward anyways.
00:50:21
Speaker
So I have a practice that I picked up through some of my mentors called the mind movie and holding that vision inside my mind for where I'm going.
00:50:33
Speaker
And like actually picking a very specific, very specific moment that I can see that quote unquote hasn't happened yet, but it's happening now, right?
00:50:44
Speaker
Because the universe doesn't have like a difference between the future and the past.
00:50:49
Speaker
It's like all right now.
00:50:50
Speaker
And so I keep coming back to my mind movie of seeing the impact, seeing how this journal is making a positive difference in people's lives.
00:51:00
Speaker
And that's fuel for me.
00:51:03
Speaker
those moments when I'm a little uncertain or scared that this is too much for me, or I watch, I think the question that you're asking around like, you know,
00:51:14
Speaker
do I ever doubt myself?
00:51:16
Speaker
Right.
00:51:17
Speaker
For me, it doesn't come through those questions or those voices.
00:51:20
Speaker
It comes through patterns, distraction patterns, procrastination patterns.
00:51:26
Speaker
And I can start to see when my actions are not actually showing up in devotion to what I'm here to do, what I'm here to bring through this mission that I'm on to help people to get into a deeper, more loving relationship with themselves.
00:51:40
Speaker
When I start to go like,
00:51:41
Speaker
oh, I'm going to just go clean the house or I'm just going to like go rearrange my closet or I'm going to go, you know, not do the thing that I know that I need to be doing.
00:51:52
Speaker
You know, those are those things that the more that I get into self-awareness practices and I can start to see those old patterns and then keep coming back to the mind movie, keep coming back to my why.
00:52:06
Speaker
That's fuel.
00:52:07
Speaker
The mission is fuel.
00:52:09
Speaker
My why is the driving force because I know that I am here to make a positive difference in the world with my light.
00:52:18
Speaker
I have been gifted with this beautiful system that came through me.
00:52:23
Speaker
It is a very powerful and tested process to be able to get in touch with our belief systems, to be able to ask empowering questions, to start to rewire our way of seeing ourselves and seeing the world.
00:52:35
Speaker
And it's helped me so much.
00:52:37
Speaker
And I've watched it help a lot of people.
00:52:39
Speaker
And so I want to continue to keep showing up with that mission in my heart, even though it's really hard, you know, for your, for you, Halsey, in your book, there is so many pieces inside of that book that I've never read, but I know that are gold for some people out there.
00:53:00
Speaker
There is wisdom in there that is sure to help people out there.
00:53:05
Speaker
And it's,
00:53:06
Speaker
it takes that holding the vision of knowing that it can help someone.
00:53:10
Speaker
And I'll give you a little peek into what my mind movie is.
00:53:13
Speaker
So I do this meditation where I close my eyes and I take some deep breaths and I really connect to this image.
00:53:22
Speaker
I see this woman coming up to me and she's holding the power affirmation journal to her heart.
00:53:29
Speaker
And I can feel the essence of her joy and her gratitude.
00:53:33
Speaker
And she comes up to me
00:53:35
Speaker
And she shares with me how much this journal has changed her life and it has made a big difference in her life.
00:53:40
Speaker
And she's so grateful for it.
00:53:41
Speaker
And she wants me to sign it.
00:53:45
Speaker
Love it.
00:53:45
Speaker
And it's like when I tap into that imagination of that mind movie, then I feel my whole system just...
00:53:54
Speaker
Oh, yes.
00:53:55
Speaker
Like, yes, I'm here to make a positive difference in the world.
00:53:58
Speaker
And that's like helps me get over my own personal doubts and fears and insecurities around whatever it is that's coming up.
00:54:06
Speaker
Because I'm here to make a difference.
00:54:07
Speaker
And I think we all are.
00:54:08
Speaker
And when we can let that be the inspiration.
00:54:12
Speaker
I think that that can be really helpful.
00:54:15
Speaker
So how does, how does that land?
00:54:18
Speaker
Magically powerfully.
00:54:19
Speaker
That was awesome.
00:54:21
Speaker
Thank you, Jesse.
00:54:24
Speaker
Well, I'd love to close out with some final sparks.
00:54:28
Speaker
I'll say that, that actually Yanis, would you start?
00:54:35
Speaker
I sure.
00:54:36
Speaker
I, I feel like I'm,
00:54:40
Speaker
I got a reminder a couple weeks back at this festival that I was at with a bunch of really world-class musicians who were there and got their reminder that if we...
00:54:54
Speaker
allow ourselves to become vessels for whatever energy or force wants to be expressed in our, in our reality, we're going to get super little, going to get a little woo here.
00:55:08
Speaker
That, that is almost a surefire way to,
00:55:12
Speaker
to bring like our dreams into the world.
00:55:15
Speaker
Our dreams are our dreams for a reason.
00:55:18
Speaker
And when we allow ourselves to be disliked, to be, to be played, there is like watching some of these musicians play.
00:55:26
Speaker
And I've talked to other musicians about this before and they've got, they've kind of have confirmed this, that,
00:55:33
Speaker
that music is a source, is a spirit that when they kind of just get out of the way and they're playing their violin or they're playing their piano, there's a moment where they stop and it's like, gah, like they kind of like snap, like they come back because they have been getting played by this musical spirit that is just expressing itself through their fingers or their voice.
00:55:58
Speaker
I've heard singers express the same thing.
00:55:59
Speaker
Like I'm just sharing
00:56:01
Speaker
What wants to come through?
00:56:02
Speaker
I am a vessel.
00:56:03
Speaker
And I think that's true for a lot of business projects as well, or just artistic projects.
00:56:08
Speaker
If I want to paint, it's like, what is this painting that wants to come through me?
00:56:12
Speaker
And then you just paint for however long, you know, days or weeks, or even like a mural on the side of a building, and then it just comes to completion.
00:56:19
Speaker
And it's...
00:56:20
Speaker
And when there's a release, like, okay, this is not my idea.
00:56:24
Speaker
It's what wanted to come through.
00:56:25
Speaker
And I just allowed it to come through.
00:56:28
Speaker
That to me seems to be a sure, surefire way to success because the thing, the thing wants to come through.
00:56:34
Speaker
We just have to oftentimes just get out of the way and let it, let it come through.
00:56:38
Speaker
And we get, you know, cause we have the skill acquired to, to do this at this point.
00:56:43
Speaker
So, so yeah, become a vessel, become this empty vessel, allowing, you know,
00:56:49
Speaker
these ideas, these dreams to express themselves through you.
00:56:53
Speaker
And then just kind of sit back and watch the results and don't be attached to the results.
00:56:57
Speaker
And that's usually how we get things done.
00:57:01
Speaker
Get out of the way.
00:57:02
Speaker
Get out of the way, yo.
00:57:03
Speaker
Get out of the way.
00:57:05
Speaker
Yes.
00:57:07
Speaker
Love that.
00:57:09
Speaker
I'll share.
00:57:10
Speaker
Can I jump in with my closing sparks?
00:57:12
Speaker
All right.
00:57:13
Speaker
So, you know, what's really alive for me is, you know, how,
00:57:19
Speaker
many options there are.
00:57:20
Speaker
There is an infinite amount of options, ways that we can focus our time and energy and what we want to create.
00:57:28
Speaker
And sometimes that can feel overwhelming, especially if somebody is looking for their purpose or their mission, right?
00:57:35
Speaker
It can feel like, oh, what am I here to do?
00:57:37
Speaker
My God, I could be a baker.
00:57:39
Speaker
I could be an author.
00:57:40
Speaker
I could be a doctor.
00:57:41
Speaker
Where am I putting my energy?
00:57:42
Speaker
You know, it can be a little bit intense and intimidating, but
00:57:46
Speaker
And I feel like one of the most important things to consider is to let the heart lead.
00:57:52
Speaker
I feel like our heart knows so much.
00:57:56
Speaker
When we can get out of our heads and come into our hearts and feel from that place of what brings me the most joy, how can I share my
00:58:05
Speaker
my joy, my light, my unique gifts with the world in a way that is prosperous, that is purposeful, that is helping me live my mission, right?
00:58:16
Speaker
Then I feel like that that is such an important thing to listen to.
00:58:21
Speaker
And so that's my closing spark.
00:58:22
Speaker
Let the heart lead.
00:58:25
Speaker
Boy, this has been a powerful conversation for me.
00:58:30
Speaker
I think my closing spark is,
00:58:33
Speaker
I've been really helped by the philosophy of float more, steer less.
00:58:40
Speaker
And I think that to a degree, I've leaned into that as a way to...
00:58:50
Speaker
avoid the scary aspect of putting a goal or putting you know a destination of a larger big projects and i'll just see what happens i'll just you know kind of go with the flow and see what happens but there's a possible there's a way to let the heart lead as you said and let the heart define a goal
00:59:12
Speaker
and then get the daily efforts behind that goal, and then just be unattached to the outcome.
00:59:24
Speaker
And somewhere in that recipe, I think is this beautiful ability to still be floating and paddling in the direction that your heart has already said that you need to be going.
00:59:38
Speaker
So that's my final spark, yeah.
00:59:41
Speaker
Yeah.
00:59:41
Speaker
And then I'd like to just like add a little bit onto that because it's letting the heart lead.
00:59:45
Speaker
Like where's that joyful current, right?
00:59:49
Speaker
But also listening, like I had shared before, when the heart droops, the heart is not into it.
00:59:55
Speaker
That's also listening, right?
00:59:57
Speaker
When it's time to put something to rest.
01:00:00
Speaker
if it is really causing more contraction and pain and challenge, then it's like, that's the heart also speaking and saying, Hey, is this really an alignment to what you're here to do and who you're here to be, you know, and trust, just trust that it's okay to pivot, trust that it's, it's safe to put ourselves out there.

Invitations and Listener Engagement

01:00:19
Speaker
It's safe to try something new.
01:00:23
Speaker
Well, I imagine after this conversation, people will be curious about how to get a hold of you, Betsy.
01:00:28
Speaker
So how can people contact you and what do you have to offer the world?
01:00:32
Speaker
No, thank you so much.
01:00:34
Speaker

01:01:23
Speaker
deepen that relationship and get into greater alignment with our joy.
