Global Sports Podcast Network
Hello everybody and welcome to the Daily Chelsea podcast. ah It

Introduction and Wild Card Wednesday

00:00:17
Global Sports Podcast Network
is of course, it's our lovely, it's our special day of the week. It's Wild Card Wednesday where we take a different topic to what we would do typically and yeah, we discuss it and we've got quite an interesting one today. um But first, ah firstly, let's let's go to, let's, who who's here today? I am your, I am one of your co-host Jake and I'm joined by my other co-host, the marvelous Matt Black, then how you doing?
00:00:39
Matt
Yeah, very well, Jake. i' Very excited to get into this episode. Yeah, like you said, it's a bit different. And um I think, yeah, there's a lot to discuss today.
00:00:47
Global Sports Podcast Network
100% yeah I mean I don't even know if we needed an episode idea really today there's we probably could

Mariska Supports Madrigg: Risks and Transparency

00:00:52
Global Sports Podcast Network
have done a half an hour one just happenings in football but we'll try and get that done in the ah in the first third of the podcast um so obviously you know we could we covered a bit of the Madrid news rate yesterday there's not been any sort of major update and besides the fact that Mariska obviously had his press conference for our conference league game tomorrow um and he came out and said that he believes Madrigg is probably innocent innocent um or innocent in the fact that he not that he hasn't taken the substance but he unknowingly took the substance of course which is what the investigation will come down to. and Just quickly Matt, what' you what what's your opinion on Mariska coming out and backing Madrigg? I mean it's a bit of a risk for Mariska, no?
00:01:33
Matt
Yeah, absolutely. It definitely is a risk, and but I absolutely love it. you know This is, I think, more and more what we want to see from Chelsea. I don't think we've seen this in a long, long time where a manager will you know publicly defend ah his players so openly. um He is just so transparent with everyone, the media, the players, everyone. ah It's just super refreshing.
00:01:53
Matt
and so You know one on one hand he is putting someone who's somewhat reputation on the line if Mitchell kids to be found, you know intentionally taking it um and everything around that but so You know, so I just ah yeah, I think this is Maruska is clearly leading from the front in terms of what he wants from his squad that you know the players back each other the manager backs them they back the manager and Just that beautiful circle of trust, effectively, um because that will actually take us to the title and more and more things. So um it's a risk, but I think it's worthwhile.
00:02:29
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, I sort of agree with you there. I quite like the fact that he has sort of, you know, it's it it quite annoying that he's got a press conference a day after and probably, you know, he's, but he, he is probably well aware of the situation himself.
00:02:38
Matt
Yeah.
00:02:41
Global Sports Podcast Network
It's probably not new to him in terms of the fact that he found out yesterday. Um, but yeah, it's nice to have it. It just, it just brings that extra feeling of everyone's together at the moment.
00:02:51
Global Sports Podcast Network
And it's, you know, it's quite fans of China. We've got our Chelsea back and such and such. It's. it does have that sort of feeling around the club and it's quite a nice response and that's all we need really until until we have any further details obviously we'll probably be talking about this topic within the week again that B sample is due back within the next week or so um where we get results from that um but also in the football world Matt um quite a fair bit of Marcus Rashford's name thrown around yesterday
00:03:16
Matt
Mmm.
00:03:17
Global Sports Podcast Network
Um, and today as well, in terms of the fact that you telegraph are reporting that, um, there may be a Saudi

Rashford Transfer Speculation: Saudi Club and Chelsea

00:03:23
Global Sports Podcast Network
deal waiting for him if he wanted to take it. Um, just because of the wages as well. Um, but we won't go too deep into, you know, his contract stuff and his situation and stuff like that. But I think what everyone's asking themselves as a football fan is would I have Rashford at my club? Because I think the way that this is sort of going, there's a possibility that a club could probably come in and snap them up for a good fee. Um, the wages are a different story.
00:03:48
Global Sports Podcast Network
Matt, if we if the opportunity came about for Chelsea to get Marcos Rashford, what would you say to that? Would you be interested in having him in our squad?
00:03:58
Matt
You know, I think it is an interesting one. I think that a lot of factors have got to be in the right direction for Chelsea for that to happen. So I'll compare it to, you know, the whole Jade and Sancho a situation as well, in the sense that firstly, the fee was 20 million initially with 5 million of add-ons. That's a great, you know, price for a player of Jade and Sancho's calibre.
00:04:21
Matt
So that's kind of win-win. The risk really was you know his temperament and was he going to have any of the United issues at Chelsea? And is he going to be willing to lower his wages? And you know delightfully for us, there hasn't been a temperament issue and he has been able to you know agree to the new wage structure that Chelsea have.
00:04:40
Matt
So that's an example where it's really worked and has been really profitable for Chelsea. You know Rashford? He's a left winger. He would effectively want Jaden Sancho's spot um and you know that could arguably be really good competition between the two so that they both bring the best out of each other.
00:04:59
Matt
I think Rashid does bring a bit of a different dynamic to Sancho. He's a bit more direct and you know definitely wants to shoot a lot more than Sancho does. um And does have an element of a game willing ability within him. um But that was you know everything that we saw and all the good things about Rashid that we saw. war were you know, two seasons ago and two seasons is a long time in football.
00:05:25
Matt
So the question really is, can he get back to that sort of level? I'm not really sure. But if you say that we can get him for about 20 million and he is willing to, you know, vastly, you know, reduce his wages to about maybe, you know, 100 grand a week compared to what he's on now, then potentially it's worth the risk.
00:05:40
Global Sports Podcast Network
Mm.
00:05:43
Matt
I honestly would, you know, definitely leave that up to Maresca to make a decision on that because I think he'll have the best idea about whether we really need him. And if he thinks Madrid's innocent, then surely he thinks he's going to come back into the squad. And so then I don't think we really need Rashford.
00:06:00
Global Sports Podcast Network
That's interesting. and and A quick question. Would you, if we did sign Rashford, and I suppose that this is sort of a question, if anyone signs Rashford, do you think that they look at him as a left-winger now? Or do you think, because one of the things I like i think about him is is he's quite dynamic. like And it's not as if he's dynamic as in he he was just the player who was dynamic. but because of the amount of managers that United have had and such and such.
00:06:24
Global Sports Podcast Network
And he's always been the guy who, which also why I think is a bit harsh in terms of what's happening. He's always been the guy who's been moved around. He's always been in the first 11, but he'll play anywhere. And I understand United founder saying he's not been trying hard recently, but come on, like who would be in that in the state of the current club?
00:06:39
Matt
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
00:06:40
Global Sports Podcast Network
It's very hard to get the motivation going there. um Do you, as a striker, do you see him maybe going to another club and playing as a striker?
00:06:49
Matt
Yeah, it really depends on the club, to be honest. I mean, with if we take Arsenal as an example, they'll probably want him to provide competition to Martinelli or Trossard on the left-hand sides. um Potentially, you know, also experiment with him up top, because I don't think Habertz or Gabriel Jesus really quite fits that striker mould for Arsenal right now. um Even, you know, the fact that Arsenal have spent, I think, 110 million on both those players alone. And they're still not quite sure.
00:07:18
Matt
you know, sort of, it does raise a few eyebrows. um Even though Chelsea have spent a lot, I think we actually have spent out really well um or ah for the majority of our signings. um You know, if he goes to PSG, so probably he'll probably want to be the main man and slot into the striker position, and so that could work. um If he does go to Saudi, I mean, he could play wherever he wants. You know, if he wants to play in goal, he could do that in Saudi, I'm sure, because, you know, they're just given whatever he wants. I think it really just depends on both what Rashford wants, but also what the club want from him. um it's it's it's um It's a delicate issue because, you know, words, Newcastle take him on because Alexander Esak have got injury yeah has got injury problems, same with Callum Wilson. And so they would probably happily take him on. But then for Rashford, is that too much of a step down in his eyes? Possibly.
00:08:10
Matt
um you know I don't see him going to Spurs, um obviously not going to City or anything like that, um but he wants to challenge for titles so I'm not exactly sure what that club is for him.
00:08:22
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, um I mean, there's there's ah there's also the possibility he'll be he'll be taking a step up in terms of where we're united are at the moment. And, you know, we don't know if amarims i'm quite liking what amaim's doing but I don't know if he's going to get him back up to the level, you know, that you and I would want to be at anyway. So there's a chance to take stuff up as well. and That leads us quite nicely into our subject of the day, Matt. So our topic for today, guys, is to discuss which Chelsea departures

Former Chelsea Players: Potential Fits in Current Squad

00:08:53
Global Sports Podcast Network
we would have in our current squad. Now we're all aware that um some players, you know, maybe didn't, were sort of pushed rather than, rather than we had an amazing offer coming in and we just took it. and And so it's interesting to see which players would maybe fit into this squad. Now, just for full disclosure, there have been 74 departures from Chelsea, including loans.
00:09:14
Global Sports Podcast Network
Uh, in the two years under, or just under three years under Blueco. So we're not going to go over every single person, but there are definitely some notable transfers. Uh, Connor Gallagher, Mason mounts, and obviously some lone players as well, who are performing quite well. Who would, you know, who would we have back in the squad? So join us for that in just a quick moment. We're going to take a very quick break and then we'll be cracking on to you. See you shortly. Do you have a story to tell the world needs to hear?

And we are back on the Daily Chelsea podcast and we have covered all of the recent news to the extent that we can, at least. It's not as if that'll be conversations that are dying down over the next few days. and But yeah, Matt, it's Wildcard Wednesday and we've got quite an interesting topic to go over.
00:10:39
Global Sports Podcast Network
and So i yeah we just sort of had this idea the other day when it was just I was sort of thinking about if Connor Gallagher would fit into our current sort of midfield system and it just made me wonder you know we've had so many departures over the last you know couple of seasons would we want any of them back so we've got a list of players that me and Matt have come up with um and we'll spend a bit longer on a few of them and I think we'll start with probably the our maybe our biggest transfer story of the summer and also Someone that a lot of Chelsea fans are probably still wanting back in the squad. and Matt, Conogallagher, now that you've seen so so many games of Enzo and the system that we play, would you have Conogallagher back in the squad? would you what Would you have wanted to keep him in the squad if he was willing to? And do you think he would be making the starting 11 if he was here?
00:11:34
Matt
So based on what I've seen with Maresco's team, I don't think I would have Gallica back in the squad just because I don't think he's up to the same level as Lavia, Caesado and Enzo within that midfield three um and the way it flexes and everything within that.
00:11:51
Matt
i I think he's just not technical and enough to really hack everything that Mariska demands of his players. And also more just from a sort of i guess squad i guess you know so with the new wage structure and the kind of politics within the whole squad and everything as well.
00:12:09
Matt
that, you know, he wanted to be on, you know, bigger wages, about, you know, 160 grand, which is what he's on at Athletic. And, you know, that wages in the higher bracket for the first team players.
00:12:22
Matt
And he, you know, so he's just never going to be a first team player ah within the squads. He potentially could be a squad player, but he didn't want that.
00:12:28
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:12:30
Matt
And there's no point keeping a player around as a squad player when he definitely wants to be a first team player, because he was first team for a lot of Chelsea under Poch. Um, and you know, when he's had that experience to go, you know, back to squads, it's pretty harsh.
00:12:43
Matt
So it's one of those where I think, you know, as sad as it was to see him go, it does actually make sense for for every party.
00:12:43
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:12:50
Matt
Um, you know, we've got the money in and he's now happy, you know, he's living up in Spain. He's playing champions league football as well. Um, and so it's definitely working for him.
00:12:57
Global Sports Podcast Network
yeah
00:13:00
Matt
And, you know, because of that, he can definitely get into the England squad. Whereas if he was at Chelsea, um I think he would struggle to get into the England team.
00:13:09
Global Sports Podcast Network
Fair enough, yeah, and and and that's sort of what papers were saying was being said to him as well, wasn't it? It was like, you know, ah what Chelsea apparently said to him was, you know, if you want to keep your England place and you want to keep progressing, it's probably not the best place for you here. I think I agree with you, Matt. I don't think he would be the best fit. i You know, I used to call him, it I used to, ah I loved him at Chelsea, but I think he was a bit of a headless chicken when he was here.
00:13:32
Matt
Yeah.
00:13:33
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, it's it's in ah in a system that's so disciplined, um I think it's it it would be quite hard for him to fit fit into that current team. As someone who is a bit more disciplined um and, again, maybe faced similar situations in what Gallagher had, although we don't know all the ins and outs, obviously, and was Mason Mounts. Now, Mason Mounts is an interesting one because, obviously, we did sign Cole Parmer at the same time, and Cole Parmer has I'd say done a little bit better than Mason Mount in the eight months or so that they've been around, but they're two new clubs. If we were offered the chance or if he never left, Matt, do you think Mason Mount would be in our starting 11 and would you want him here at the moment?
00:14:20
Matt
in absolutely no way um you know sort of it's a little bit harsh but or strong rather but the guy can't you know string together 15 minutes of game time we saw that you know in the Manchester Derby he was off after 11 minutes with a muscle injury again um it's not like he's getting knocked or kicked um it's just his body seems to be breaking down and you know we've had our fair share of injury worries um alone with like forarna and marice james if he was one of our crucial team ah players and and he's just continually you know in the In the medical room trying to work out what the issue is and getting up to speed again I think you know fans would have you know sort of started to lose patience with them far far or very quickly um You know sort of if the United fans haven't already I would probably be a little bit surprised because they've signed them for big money about 65 million and I
00:15:16
Matt
that That with that kind of cost you expect them to at least be fit to be playing every game almost weeks.
00:15:22
Global Sports Podcast Network
And they're paying the wages he wanted as well.
00:15:22
Matt
Um isn Oh, yeah, absolutely. Yeah, that's that's the other big thing as well. That's where blueco have been Really firm but really um smart as well because I think mount is on, you know about 200 250 a week You know, that's reese james levels for us.
00:15:38
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:15:38
Matt
Um, that's that's like, you know, I need our club captain um, you know, so that's the levels that that really is and
00:15:46
Matt
just he um you know so He had a great spell for us when we won the Champions League and he was one of our Youth Academy products and everyone got excited about him, rightly so. But almost like since we won the Champions League, players like him and players like were other players that we're probably going to mention as well,
00:16:05
Matt
Their ability and their form and everything just seem to kind of fizzle out and not really work again. And so I think somehow we've been able to get 65 million for a player that can't even run.
00:16:17
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, very, very good deal by Chelsea, here um it Essentially that that's covered Colt Palmer around a couple of years of his wages, you know.
00:16:22
Matt
Oh, and it's Cole Palmer and Jaden Sancho, you know, both of them.
00:16:27
Global Sports Podcast Network
if if
00:16:31
Global Sports Podcast Network
Exactly, yeah, there you are, yeah. That's that's just that's just a stupid business, isn't it? and Yeah, ah I agree with you. I don't think after, especially, you know, it wouldn't if he had never left, it wouldn't have happened.
00:16:43
Global Sports Podcast Network
But that video of him and his dad saying, oh, this is home and all that sort of stuff.
00:16:46
Matt
Yeah, yeah.
00:16:47
Global Sports Podcast Network
For me, that's, yeah, another coming back sort of scenario. and If he's even playing football at 30, you know, we we'll have to see.
00:16:55
Matt
Yeah maybe.
00:16:56
Global Sports Podcast Network
ah cost way you know it it could be That could be what happens. you know He is suffering bad injuries at the moment. and We'll move on to another one, Matt. We're a couple of fullbacks now, a couple of um players who i I wanted to definitely still see in a squad. but It's not worked out that way. we We'll start off with Lewis Hall. um Considering, you know, the, it like very, very recently, the, the fallback issues we face and not as in the, you know, just as in with my injuries and suspension and stuff. and Is Lewis Hall someone you'd want to have in the squad right now? Is that someone we shouldn't have solved?
00:17:34
Matt
It's really tricky with that because if we're talking about literally right now, then he would be a great option to have in the squad to turn to. um And you know potentially if we had him in the squad, that would free Vega up to you know play a few different roles within the squad, which he may be better suited to in terms of you know center a defensive and field um or something like that um a bit more often. But a lot of these things within football, it's all to do with timing. And you know sort the went when Newcastle came in,
00:18:02
Matt
He wasn't the player that he was. It was about two years ago when we sold him to Newcastle and he was still very raw. The fact that we got, you know, that pure profit money from him is brilliant. You know, I think it's 28 million with potential add-ons up to 35 million. That's great. That is really, really good money. And, you know, sort of it's kudos to our Academy once again.
00:18:22
Matt
um He probably would have been a great option, but I you know sort of I actually think you know for his development and whatnot um He had to leave um just because the the sons at Chelsea are just really firm and really fierce um There isn't much patience really there to to let you build into To what we need, um you know arguably even players like Kukarela and whatnot They've you know been able to turn things around quick enough so that they can you know justify their price tag and you know keep their space.
00:18:53
Matt
Because when Kukarela first joined, he was awful. admitted Admittedly, a lot of the squad were awful, but he was awful.
00:19:00
Global Sports Podcast Network
yeah
00:19:00
Matt
ah But thankfully, he's been able to turn it around. and So yeah, at the moment, Kukarela and Vega at left back, that's working so far. Would have been great. Yeah, sure. um I do actually always like it, you know, the more English players we can get in our team. But um that doesn't necessarily mean that that they're always going to be the best and that we should keep um ah hold on to them.
00:19:23
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah. yeah we've we've always ah someone ah if If we had the right circumstances at a time, him staying in the squad, I think it would have been quite quite good. But I don't think it really ever happened like that. And obviously the board were looking for a Homegrown player to sell and I think that's that's how Lewis Hall.
00:19:40
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, that's and then so there was always not a Chelsea anymore and Another player who was a sort of similar situation um again a fullback or those sometimes uses a winger as well um Ian Martin was someone we sold and he again sold to another sort of big-ish club Do you think here Martin would be helping us this season if we hadn't told him?
00:19:44
Matt
Mm.
00:20:04
Matt
it's It's really hard to say because we're having an amazing season. We're second.
00:20:08
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:20:08
Matt
you know we It's only Liverpool above us and um you know Villa are struggling. they are They are seventh after all. And Mattson hasn't really played for them as well this season.
00:20:21
Matt
He's really struggled to get minutes. I think he struggled with injuries as well.
00:20:24
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:20:24
Matt
And you know again, potentially he could have fit in fitted into Maresco's system and he could have made Mattson look brilliant. but we've got about 35 million for him as well and ah So far it's kind of great business, you know sort of I always think that you know If you sell a player to someone else and they're clearly not, you know starting a lot playing a lot Then you've definitely made the right decision.
00:20:47
Matt
We did that with Mount and I think we've done that with Madison as well
00:20:48
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. It's that, that is, that is sort of, yeah, proof and proof. And if anyone is, it's those players are not starting at lower clubs, you know, would they be starting at the club who second? Probably not. So, um, quite interesting. Okay. So we're going to have a quick little break and then we have quite a few more players to go through. We're going to do a quick fire on those. And then obviously we have players on loan at the moment. So we'll be asking.
00:21:14
Global Sports Podcast Network
in the in terms of the realm of actual possibility who would we have in our squad for next season. ah We'll see you again very, very shortly.

00:22:16

I wouldn't actually, you know, I'd still stick with no for Mindy.
00:23:05
Global Sports Podcast Network
You still sort of know from Endy as well. so out um If you had the chance to have Tiago Silva back, would you?
00:23:07
Matt
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
00:23:12
Matt
Oh, yeah, absolutely. Yeah.
00:23:14
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:23:16
Global Sports Podcast Network
And and what about Callum Hudson or Doi? Would you want Callum Hudson but back in the team?
00:23:20
Matt
Yeah, I'd have him back as well. Yeah, I think we really missed it.
00:23:22
Global Sports Podcast Network
You're coming back as well.
00:23:23
Matt
Yeah, I'd have him back. I think we, you know, sort of, I get why we sold him, but we definitely sold him way too cheap for five mil. But, uh, yeah, yeah.
00:23:30
Global Sports Podcast Network
i agree i agree I agree with some of them cheaper, but are you saying yes that you'd want him back in our squad currently? Do you think he's got the qualities?
00:23:36
Matt
Yeah, I think so. I think, um, as in this is sort of dependent on, you know, Madrid not coming back into the squads, but I think Hudson and Dye, he's a solid squad player to have to give competition to Sancho on the left wing. And, um, he's got a good finesse shot on him.
00:23:52
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, I agree with that. Yeah, day he does actually to be fair. There is a couple of scenarios he would help us out.
00:23:56
Matt
Hmm.
00:23:56
Global Sports Podcast Network
um Okay, fair enough. and Continuing with the quick fire. Kula Bali, he went to Al Halal.
00:24:03
Matt
Whoa, no way. ah No.
00:24:05
Global Sports Podcast Network
No, no, no, okay. um What about Ruben Loftus Cheek?
00:24:10
Matt
My heart says yes, but my head says no.
00:24:11
Global Sports Podcast Network
I think, really?
00:24:13
Matt
So it's got to be a no. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
00:24:15
Global Sports Podcast Network
No, okay, yeah. I mean, I think I agree with you though. I don't think he's got the quality, but it would be nice to have him in and around the club though, wouldn't it? It would be nice to see him about.
00:24:21
Matt
Absolutely.
00:24:24
Global Sports Podcast Network
Players who are still playing and go like Hante, would you have him back at the club?
00:24:27
Matt
Oh, wow. Yeah.
00:24:29
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:24:29
Matt
Imagine that. Come on. Say, no double. That'd be crazy. Oh,
00:24:34
Global Sports Podcast Network
That's the way to win the league, 100%.
00:24:35
Matt
ah say
00:24:35
Global Sports Podcast Network
That's the way to win the league. Another player who's still playing, Hakimziesh. Would you have Hakimziesh?
00:24:40
Matt
nah yeah and oh yeah.
00:24:41
Global Sports Podcast Network
No. Cesar Azpilicueta.
00:24:45
Matt
Yeah. Yeah. We'd have him just for vibes alone as well.
00:24:46
Global Sports Podcast Network
yeah
00:24:48
Matt
Just for that kind of leadership, you know, all of that.
00:24:48
Global Sports Podcast Network
doctor yeah
00:24:50
Matt
Yeah. Yeah.
00:24:51
Global Sports Podcast Network
And then a couple lastly, Ethan Ampedou. Do you think he was given enough time to develop? Do you think he should be back at Chelsea?
00:24:59
Matt
I think I would say no. And I think he's had plenty of opportunities elsewhere and just, you know, it's, it's no bad feat, but I think he is just a sort of championship level player. um And that's fair enough.
00:25:12
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, yeah, yeah, fair. And then lastly, um and this is, ah but yeah, sorry, the last player who is not on loan, Amari Hutchinson, would you would you have him back at Chelsea? Didn't see too much of him in a Chelsea shirt, I don't think at all, but you know.
00:25:27
Matt
That's pretty tricky. i would I'd say no just because I don't see him really being that much better than any of our academy products right now.
00:25:36
Global Sports Podcast Network
Mm-hmm.
00:25:37
Matt
Um, and you know, he definitely wants to play first team football. So you don't want that sort of like negative energy in the club when, um, you know, I guess not, not in a bad way, but he would kind of, you know, always be wanting to to start.
00:25:51
Matt
And the fact that managers would would keep saying, sorry, you're not really at that sort of, I think we're just grinders gears a little bit and potentially fester.
00:26:00
Global Sports Podcast Network
Fair. Yeah, yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I think I agree with him. He's probably, he's he's he's doing my lip switch as well. And I suppose I think we do have a buyback clause for him as well. I think. ah
00:26:09
Matt
We probably do, yeah.
00:26:11
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah. OK, so players. So I'm not I'm not taking every single player online that would take too long at at any time in Chelsea's period. in any Any time. Yeah. Any time period of Chelsea. and But we've done some here. and First one is Amanda Broja. Do you think he should stay in the squad when he comes back?
00:26:29
Matt
No, I think we should try and sell him. I was really gutted the the the the deal with

On-loan Players: Future Roles at Chelsea

00:26:35
Matt
Ipswich fell through because I think, you know, sort of if they stayed up and they had to buy him at 30 million, that again would have been amazing money for him. Absolutely amazing.
00:26:45
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, wast it was going to be a stupid deal by them, to be fair. so they we We didn't get a lot of what they did, probably, to be honest.
00:26:48
Matt
Yeah. Yeah.
00:26:51
Global Sports Podcast Network
and What about Kepa, Arisa and Balaga?
00:26:56
Matt
Uh, I haven't really been, has he been playing much for Bournemouth? I really haven't been fully.
00:27:00
Global Sports Podcast Network
is Here's their starting gear by football, yeah.
00:27:03
Matt
Okay. I mean, you know, Bournemouth have been quite a hard side to beat so far. Um, to be honest, hard to say based on the season alone, but outside of the season, no way.
00:27:14
Matt
Just because I think he's not what he was anymore. And I don't know if he really loves playing for Chelsea anymore. I don't know if it would have really got a blue heart.
00:27:24
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, he must be quite annoyed with us at this point. um imagine be just donend because of his wages i guess But I imagine paying part of his wages at the moment as well.
00:27:31
Matt
yeah
00:27:34
Global Sports Podcast Network
I don't do not think for paying his entire 200 a week, wherever it is.
00:27:34
Matt
must do hey
00:27:39
Global Sports Podcast Network
and Another one, ah we'll we'll move on to some nice ones in a minute. ah Raheem Sterling, do you think you should be sold when he comes back?
00:27:47
Matt
yeah yeah absolutely he needs to get sold um i think The worry is as he now becomes the next Lukaku of just sitting out his contract because he's on huge money, he's comfortable living in London and doesn't really want to move to you know like Saudi or anything else where they would you know give him tons of cash.
00:27:59
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah. Sure.
00:28:06
Matt
ah The only you know alternative which is kind of similar to what we spoke about with Rashford is that I wonder whether PSG would take sterling just from a sort of You know branding and merchandise viewpoint um And they could definitely pay his wages ah but Yeah with with sterling It's kind of
00:28:13
Global Sports Podcast Network
Hmm.
00:28:25
Matt
Beautifully ironic the fact that he left, obviously in a half, um feeling disrespected, made that video with Arsenal saying, you're about to see the best of me. And he's been an unused sub for the last five games for Arsenal. So I'm not sure what we're really seeing, Raheem, but I don't think Arteta really believed in your quality. So I think we've made the right decision to to leave you out and ah give Pedro Neto your squad number.
00:28:52
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, yeah, I think I think so face he needs that that that statement was just so ridiculous left out the team
00:28:57
Matt
Yeah, that was stupid.
00:29:00
Global Sports Podcast Network
for the first game against City, like, oh, that's crazy.
00:29:03
Matt
Hmm.
00:29:04
Global Sports Podcast Network
Whatever was happening at that point, he cemented it happening by with that stupid post.
00:29:09
Matt
Yeah.
00:29:10
Global Sports Podcast Network
Okay, so we move on to some tougher ones just to finish off, Matt. Petrovich, do you think Petrovich should stay when he comes back?
00:29:19
Matt
That's really tough because we, I think we do have eight goalkeepers on our books. um so ah and He was great last season. I definitely have him back in the squads for competition alone with um Jorgensen and Sanchez. And I would hope next summer that we would have found a replacement for Sanchez um unless he has a ginormous, you know, consistency.
00:29:45
Matt
of of brilliant performances. ah But yeah, Petrovich, he seems really solid by the way that he's handled the whole him having to be pushed out as well of Chelsea.
00:29:53
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, uh...
00:29:55
Matt
So I think he's got the right mind mindset to to come back in as well.
00:30:00
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah. he And he definitely stepped up to the plate when we needed him. i did it was Again, another player that we've sort of treated a bit harshly, but if it's to get to this point and we do do amazing things to this point, maybe we'll we'll shut up about it.
00:30:11
Global Sports Podcast Network
But I mean, it's still a contention. um What about Trevor Shalaba? Do you think he should remain?
00:30:18
Matt
Yeah, do you know what? that's That's probably the hardest one from the summer just gone, you know, because I think we all love Trev and we all do you think he's better than Dassasi, possibly even better than Badia Shilei as well, you although Badia Shilei has, you know, had better performances recently.
00:30:36
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:30:37
Matt
There have been one or two games, um admittedly it was probably some of his earlier games with Palace that he did look a little bit out of sorts and um Sometimes he was caught napping a little bit and Maybe that's just the transition to another club. But yeah, he's a really solid player again, you know hasn't complained one bit He's just been like this is the situation The club, you know don't want me right now. So I'm gonna go to palace and he seems to be really thriving at palace, which is great um I would definitely take him back because he's got the right mindset and and you know if you had chalabar and cole wheel that's probably a pretty solid pairing so you know why not try that
00:31:16
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, fair. I would like to see that. i think i I understand what we're trying to do. He's a homegrown player and he's maybe not up to the quality or the future quality we expect to have, but he has filled in at so many spots. he's also just The main thing for me is he's very versatile like very versatile. I was only happy letting him go after we got Vega because Vega is also a similarly versatile player.
00:31:41
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, i just that was that was the only one that really irked me a little bit. I was just kind of like, that what why are we doing this?
00:31:47
Matt
Yeah,
00:31:47
Global Sports Podcast Network
I was um just a bit, not Chelsea, you know what I mean?
00:31:50
Matt
yeah, yeah not yeah
00:31:50
Global Sports Podcast Network
and Matt, I was also going to quickly finish off with Santos as well, but I don't think either of us can say it we've watched every Strasbourg game so far. and no so i think it's probably and i think it's expected that he would come back from the loan anyway um or they will be staying that he's actually having his loans to genuinely develop him and from what i see Strasbourg seems to be quite enjoying him and and their results literally ticked up when he went back there from low in the last season um But yeah, I mean, what a fantastic episode, Matt.
00:32:23
Global Sports Podcast Network
We've we've gone through quite a lot of players. Maybe one day we'll do a special edition and go through all 74 departures, which will probably be 110 or something like that.
00:32:28
Matt
Yeah.
00:32:32
Global Sports Podcast Network
but
00:32:32
Matt
Yeah, why not?
00:32:34
Global Sports Podcast Network
and But a very interesting week ahead as well. Of course, we now move into the predictions for the old previews for the Everton game. um Chelsea again, of course, play tomorrow as well in the conference league. um We're at home to Shamrock Rovers, which is, um I mean, we're going to see a second team again there, aren't we, Matt?
00:32:52
Matt
Mm, absolutely. Yeah. Yeah. I hope another eight nil win as well.
00:32:56
Global Sports Podcast Network
That would be nice for the home crowd, wouldn't it? was very um Well, fantastic, and fantastic episode today, Matt. Thank you so much for joining me.
00:33:04
Matt
No problem. Absolutely. Yeah. And I look forward to the the episode with 110 transfers to discuss.
00:33:11
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, probably next week, not in Chelsea, but...
00:33:13
Matt
Yeah.
00:33:14
