And then there is a second chapter that we're going to dip into ever so slightly, because it's the same story, it just gives extra information. And that is 1 Chronicles 19. 1 Chronicles 19. The main story is 2 Samuel 10. We're going to glean a little bit, though, from 1 Chronicles 19 well.

David thought, I will show kindness to Hanun, son of Nahash. The doctor said his father showed kindness to me. So Nahash had been kind to David.

Nahash was dead. Prince Hanun was a new king. So David sent a delegation. Today, you'd probably use the word ambassadors, maybe more regularly. David sent a delegation, ambassadors, to express his sympathy to Hanun concerning his father.
Historical Background on Nahash

Now, we've actually come across Nahash before. Nahash's name means snake. This was the first big battle, or first enemy that Saul had when Saul became the king.

Comforting the Humiliated Ambassadors

Let's think of this logically. These guys have just had their clothes torn in two. You know, they're still wearing their shirt, nothing else other than their sandals their shoes.

The men that David sent to them What kind of things do you think that they carried? What kind of provision do you think they carry just naturally, logically?

They're going to make them, obviously, they're going to make gelatin for them. 100%. We're not told it, but it's obvious. Because it's one it's bad enough that the Ammonites have seen them, you know, almost in the nip.

There's no point in David sending men to say, oh, so sorry for what happened to you. And then have to travel the whole way back to Israel. Makes no sense. Yeah, logically, going to bring clothes.

Meaning of Humiliation in Hebrew

Again, These things wound the soul. Wounded doesn't mean you had a sad day. It literally means your soul got wounded, your soul got hurt. Your soul got scarred. Your soul wounds a lot next week in the context of David's life.

Parallels to Adam and Eve's Shame

Then I took a breath and everything was fine. But the humiliation, it carries with it confoundedness, confusion. It also means dishonored.

And we can see a few examples of that in the Bible. The first one is with Adam and Eve. When Jesus made Adam and Eve, he didn't make them at clothes. He didn't have a problem at clothes. I believe in time they would have made them because God loves and people are creative.

But we're told that when they were first created, they were naked. And the word for naked is which is Hebrew, a or O, Aaron.

They made clothes out of fig leaves for themselves. And is like, you know, Adam, where are you? have an account? Tell me what happened. Anyway. And Adam says, well, we heard you coming and we're naked. So we hid. Now, they weren't naked. They were wearing fig leaves, a little bit of fig leaves.

The other nakedness is the one that causes people to hide, to hide behind the curtain. That's when you feel the weight of the sin that you've committed. Your solution isn't to run to him for help, your solution is to run away.

The illustration I always give is of the two lights. Do you think that God is a Garda Shiokana, police officer cop? You're sitting in his interrogation room with a stingy light hanging from ceiling. Where were you that night? Who were you? What did you do? Because he wants to put you in jail?

And in the same way that these men, these ambassadors, had their beards shaved and their private parts put on display for all the wicked Ammonites to see, the same thing happened to Jesus.
Comparison to Jesus' Suffering

We're told in Isaiah chapter 50, verse six, they tore the beard but of his face on the soldiers' neck.

So these men, these ambassadors, went to do a good turn to somebody. And half their clothes were removed, half their beard were removed. Jesus did a good turn for us.

But in order if that to happen, all of his clothes were removed. Every hair of his beard ripped out of every hair follicle of his face.
