00:00:58
Henry_s fave striker
Bonjour, thank you for having me.

00:01:06
Henry_s fave striker

00:01:12
Dan Tanner
you very
00:01:17
Henry_s fave striker
Different blokes, same wonderful birthday.
00:01:18
Dan Tanner
much.
00:01:20
officialgspn
Is your dad a Japanese ah japanese international as well?
00:01:20
Wale Bakare
I thought...
00:01:23
Henry_s fave striker
Yeah, Shinsuka Nakamura actually. but el
00:01:26
Dan Tanner
Not enough yet.
00:01:29
officialgspn
Funny you should say. Wonderful. Well, happy birthday to both Daichi Kamada and Joe's dad.
00:01:33
officialgspn

Podcast Topics Overview

00:01:41
officialgspn
Today we're going to be discussing a few topics. We'll be talking about Palace's pre-season in the United States. We're going to be talking a little bit about some of our players' performances at the Olympics and Last but not least, some new summer signings and will some will any more Palace players be leaving and will any more players be coming into the club?
00:02:01
Henry_s fave striker
Thank you.
00:02:04
officialgspn
So we'll be discussing all of that today. So we'll kick off.

Pre-season Highlights and Stateside Cup Discussion

00:02:08
officialgspn
We'll talk about Palace's stateside cut victory. ah Fantastic. We finally have a trophy.
00:02:15
officialgspn
i can get I'm going to get that tattooed on my back tomorrow, the stateside trophy, along with my Zenit Data trophy.
00:02:18
Dan Tanner
o
00:02:21
officialgspn
I don't have either of those.
00:02:23
officialgspn
but um But yeah, so guys, what have you done? Did you manage to view any of the games or catch any of the highlights?
00:02:23
Wale Bakare
well
00:02:25
Henry_s fave striker
okay
00:02:32
Dan Tanner
I managed to get so a lot of the highlights because most of the games were like middle of the night and I think they were only on like Apple TV. So I'm not willing to pay for Apple TV just to watch some friendlies. So watch the sort of all the highlights, go through YouTube, go through my Twitter feed and they've got put them up like constantly.
00:02:48
Henry_s fave striker
I'm sorry.
00:02:51
Dan Tanner
There's a goal. There's a goal. My phone is going off my mentor during the night.
00:02:56
officialgspn
I think it was the other day it was the other day during the Crawley Town game back here in the UK.
00:03:00
Dan Tanner
Oh, yeah.
00:03:01
officialgspn
And like he said, my phone was just going, beep, beep, beep, beep, beep, beep, beep. Like with notifications every five seconds.
00:03:07
officialgspn
I think 6-3 in the end to Crystal Palace in that game.
00:03:09
Dan Tanner
Oh.
00:03:10
Dan Tanner
ah But yes.
00:03:12
officialgspn
So yeah, lots of goals.
00:03:16
officialgspn
And Joe, did you, have you seen, a oh, I think, what's going on there?
00:03:17
Dan Tanner
But yes.
00:03:19
Henry_s fave striker
Thank
00:03:22
Dan Tanner
Sorry.
00:03:22
officialgspn
I think, let's just, all right, we'll pause it there. So Joe, did you manage to catch any of the pre-season games?
00:03:22
Henry_s fave striker
you.
00:03:31
Dan Tanner
Wait.
00:03:31
officialgspn
did you Have you seen any of the, for example, the Jeffrey Schlock Wonder God?
00:03:36
Henry_s fave striker
I have to, well, which Jeffery Shlapp won the goal, really, the four mes? I mean, I really liked, obviously there was the the lovely goal against Wolves, obviously, if you've not seen it, if you haven't been keeping a close eye on the stateside Cup, which I can't imagine why.
00:03:40
officialgspn
Which?
00:03:42
Dan Tanner
it
00:03:54
Henry_s fave striker
Jeffery Shlapp scored a great goal. albeit a result of some suspects defending such goalkeeping from Wolves. some Some really not textbook sweeper keeping where the lading goal for for Wolves came out and made a slide tackle just straight into the middle of the pitch. and but still took ah took a wonderful strike from Schlapp hitting it first time near the centre circle to get a goal. But I really like the one he scored in the second stateside cup game against them West Ham, when Joe Nighy delivers a wonderful cross after some really nice change on the right from Palace.
00:04:21
Dan Tanner
Okay.
00:04:34
Henry_s fave striker
And Schlapp flicks it in with the back of his head. I remember Javier Hernandez and his pump scoring a few like that for manual item and yeah great to see you know second choice left wing back so he fought but former football league striker Jeffrey Schlapp run by the ears and and scoring a proper uh proper striker's goal it was pleasing to see
00:04:57
officialgspn
Yeah, it's straight he doesn't seem to score like many goals, but when he does, they always seem to be pretty spectacular, few and far between, but always like pretty pretty out there, pretty amazing.
00:05:05
Dan Tanner
Thank
00:05:07
officialgspn
he got I remember he got a couple before the end of the season, didn't he, which seemed to convince convince Oliver Glasner that he was definitely worth keeping in the squad for the season.
00:05:17
officialgspn
And Wylie, so now Crystal Palace, finally, after many, many, many moons, have a piece of silverware. They they managed to beat West Ham,
00:05:19
Dan Tanner
you.
00:05:26
officialgspn
in the final of the Stateside Cup. I know we were all like on the edge of our seats thinking, will they do it?
00:05:28
Dan Tanner
like
00:05:31
Henry_s fave striker
Bye.
00:05:31
officialgspn
And now we have brought home a piece of silverware.
00:05:34
officialgspn
What are your thoughts? Is this the beginning is this the beginning of a trophy run?
00:05:35
Wale Bakare
I'm not. I'm not.
00:05:39
Wale Bakare
I'm not sure Olivier Glazner will be adding that to his trophy list, but you know, ah we we'll take it. We'll take it. Well.
00:05:47
officialgspn
yeah Are you trying to insinuate that it's not as important as the Europa Lee?
00:05:50
officialgspn
How dare you?
00:05:52
Wale Bakare
well Well, now that you said it, now that you said it, but but, you know, I don't know whether when you, you know, win a trophy on preseason, whether it gives you the same feeling as, you know, winning a trophy.
00:06:07
Wale Bakare
We'll probably need to ask Arsenal. Remember those years when they used to win the Emirates Cup and their fans used to go, you know, so happy about it.
00:06:12
Henry_s fave striker
Thanks.
00:06:13
Wale Bakare
I think they did feel it did feel like a trophy for them at the time. but had but What is important really you know with the US tournament is there was some level of competitiveness you know about it and you know the players you know did give a good account of themselves. It was great to you know get opportunities to show to the manager what the the what you might be getting from them you know when the season starts. and well ah the The good thing is whatever level of football you're playing, you need to get the win.
00:06:45
Dan Tanner
Thank you.
00:06:49
Wale Bakare
you know I'm sure it does give some psychological boost to the players. And I'm sure they would feel better other than not winning games.
00:06:54
Dan Tanner
Mm
00:06:59
Wale Bakare
So that's all I can say. Whether whether anyone would have gone home saying, oh, darling, we won a trophy. I'm not really sure.
00:07:09
officialgspn
As you said, it's like, I suppose it's, it's, it's quite nice. It's something nice. It's not like, uh, essential to the pre-season buildup, but I think it's quite nice.
00:07:09
Wale Bakare
yeah
00:07:17
Wale Bakare
Yeah.
00:07:18
officialgspn
And obviously this has been quite a bit of a, it's always like pre-season, not just for Palace, seems to be a bit of a marketing tool nowadays for football clubs.
00:07:22
Dan Tanner
hmm.
00:07:27
officialgspn
I think we've come a long way from doing friendlies all the way down, Justin. Bromley and in Dulwich Hamlet to now going on a US tour. I mean, definitely in the last decade or so, you've definitely you've definitely seen a development in that sense from Crystal Palace. So quite nice. But but yeah, i so i was I was still quite shocked to even see Americans wearing Crystal Palace shirts. But there we go. We're going we're going global.
00:07:55
officialgspn
We're going international.
00:07:58
Wale Bakare
Yeah, that that but that's definitely, um that's from the ko commercial angle, it's definitely great.
00:08:04
Wale Bakare
But that's the intent now, everyone is going to the US and you don't want to be left out and it's good policies. and

Olympic Performance and Player Transformations

00:08:14
Dan Tanner
Thank you.
00:08:14
officialgspn
Absolutely. And talking of international football, in the next part, we're going to be talking about Joe's favorite man and some of his exploits in the Olympics in Paris.
00:08:26
officialgspn
So don't go away.
00:08:26
Dan Tanner
The guy's been talking about more week.
00:08:29
Henry_s fave striker
Hehehe.
00:08:30
officialgspn
save He's been building up to it in our in our WhatsApp group chat. He's been doing this, rubbing his hands, getting ready. Wonderful. join us Join us in part two for some Jean-Philippe Matetela.
00:08:46
officialgspn
but but wonderful welcome back to part two so so guys we have an Olympian in the palace squad a tall beautiful Frenchman who's been leading the line not only for all the Eagles but it's now potentially in line to get some get a gold medal for France so Joe talk to us what's what's what's been happening
00:09:08
Henry_s fave striker
Wow, you got a picture of the scene, Finn. Olympic fever, whooping across France, across the banks of the Seine to the Champs-Elysees. They've had a great week in the pool, four gold medals, low on Marchand, but no one's going to remember his name because Jean-Philippe Mateta has taken a nation by storm. He's playing up front for the French um national football team against, largely, it must be said,
00:09:34
officialgspn
No.
00:09:38
Henry_s fave striker
defenders who are less than twenty three years old but i
00:09:41
Dan Tanner
Kate.
00:09:42
Henry_s fave striker
ah important and It was in front of you. um and he's And he's been doing great. Last couple of games, he's he's popped up with vital goals for the home nation, up front alongside Alexandra Lacazette. It was genuinely really lovely to see him get the goal for France against Argentina in a game that was, I think, very emotionally significant, given everything that happened with
00:10:07
Wale Bakare
Thank
00:10:11
Henry_s fave striker
an Argentina team, albeit the more senior men's national team, and that chant about France and all the kind of division in the country at the moment, it felt like exercising some demons to win that game.
00:10:13
Dan Tanner
I'm going to speak in a bunch of things, and I'm going to get shocked about what happens behind the division, comes from there, and I'm going to take out my exercises for Dean's
00:10:13
Wale Bakare
you.
00:10:27
Henry_s fave striker
and I filled my heart with joy to hear the Stade de France shout boom when Jean-Philippe Matisse was sort of right in the corner. I was so pleased, so pleased to see it. So yeah, it's worth navigating that as we record before this is broadcast. he's about to play against Egypt in the semifinal. So this could all come horribly crumbling down, but for now, loving Mateta's Olympic journey.
00:11:00
officialgspn
Yeah, I mean, it's been quite a year for him really, hasn't it? I mean, there was a point where I think Palace fans, we'd be all ah happy to admit that it was looking like we he we'd be happy to let him go to another club and um And then suddenly with Oliver Glazner's arrival, he's been on this hot streak of form. He's managed to get his way into the France Olympic team. And as you said, now he's in line potentially for some, for some more silverware. And basically if Jean-Philippe Mateta wins a medal, we and Crystal Palace is winning a medal.
00:11:28
Dan Tanner
It counts as us as well, yeah.
00:11:28
Henry_s fave striker
Yeah.
00:11:29
officialgspn
Let's be, let's be real. Exactly Dan. And I mean, it could have even been, ah it could have even been two Palace players in that France team winning, ah winning Olympic medals. if Michael Elise had chosen to stay with us. Dan, what are your thoughts? is it is it ah you ah Are you still reeling from it or do you feel like it was the right decision and the right time?
00:11:31
Wale Bakare
Heh
00:11:31
Dan Tanner
It counts.
00:11:55
Dan Tanner
um I'm still kind of slightly annoyed that he left because he's still one of our best players and it is that we're going to get kind of stuck in that mid-table quagmire for ages.
00:11:58
Wale Bakare
heh.
00:12:05
Dan Tanner
But there's only so far he was going to go in that squad. So if he can get into, say, Bayern Munich, one of the best teams in the world, sort of arguably like a Champions League contender, then so be it. it's It's his career and he's, what, 21, 22, something like that? I don't remember. So you've still got a better part of a decade of a career, so get your chance to find Munich, why not?
00:12:24
officialgspn
Yeah, he's still very, very young.
00:12:32
officialgspn
Absolutely. And so, yeah, and as Joe's already pointed out, they' they're playing against Egypt tonight. so and is that Does that mean then they'll receive a medal if they win and with they win this game, Joe?
00:12:49
Henry_s fave striker
Yeah, I mean, they win this game, they're through to the finals. So it's at least a silver, but if there's one thing, I remember Jean-Philippe Mateta reading into him in the Athletic last year, it was one of the points that he really endeared himself to me. But it was on the start of his scoring streak, he maybe scored like three goals in a month or something. And he said, I believe I can win the golden boot next season. Sorry, if that's his attitude, that silver is not going to be anything.
00:13:18
Henry_s fave striker
but it's sellinging the go I think there's there's a third me on that third place match as well, even if they lose tonight. So it's not all hope for Olympic medal of gold, but yeah ah John Philippe deserves better than Lebron's.
00:13:24
Dan Tanner
Yeah.
00:13:29
officialgspn
Absolutely. And Wale, what are your thoughts on the transformation of John Philip Mateta in the last year or so?
00:13:35
officialgspn
What are your thoughts on it?
00:13:37
Wale Bakare
Well, um we we spoke so much about, you know, the effect um Olivier Glass now has had on the players and John Philip Mateta, arguably, has been the one that has been the most affected.
00:13:47
Wale Bakare
You know, it's not just about the goals that he scored towards the end of the season. It was the body language. You could see that it was a lot more at ease. and it was, you know, bringing more to the team. And if if there's one thing we know about strikers, I don't want to try to sound like some experienced striker now, but I've heard strikers say that, you know, one of the first things is you you want to feel good about yourself, you want to feel confident and then, you know, you just, ah you know, just keep getting in the right spaces and
00:14:19
officialgspn
Yeah.
00:14:19
Wale Bakare
and and that's what you know it was the end of the season and we've also seen it at the Olympics you know it's just enjoyed his football um it's just had a great time and that goal against Argentina it's just one of those edits that I love I love it when players you know pull away from the rest of the crowd and just arrow a nice one because it's a very difficult skill to you know to to pull off and and he did it great
00:14:20
Dan Tanner
Thank
00:14:28
Dan Tanner
you.
00:14:42
Wale Bakare
ah you know against Argentina and it proved to be the winning goal. It would be nice if you know a gold medal is what I'm sure it would be gone in for, but that's what you know all of them will be gone in for, Spain, Morocco, Egypt and France. um if they do get that win against Egypt, that's, you know, just as Joe pointed out, that's ah silver, at least, you know, certain, but but gold medal definitely is what Thierry Henry and his boys would be looking at. And I know a gold medal would do a lot of them a world of good, not just Mateta, even Thierry Henry.
00:15:15
Wale Bakare
Has he won anything as a manager? I don't think so.
00:15:17
Dan Tanner
Yeah.
00:15:17
Wale Bakare
So a gold medal is something, you know, he would be looking to get and, you know, it would be nice really for Mateta to get that.
00:15:26
officialgspn
Yeah, as you said, I think, I mean, Thierry Henry, obviously a fantastic footballer in the in the Premier League and in La Liga and internationally. like um But as you said, I think this may be potentially his first opportunity of winning some silverware himself after some uninspired years of of coaching and management.
00:15:48
officialgspn
Still a fantastic footballer. But yeah, um yeah so let's fingers crossed that we hope Jean-Philippe Mateta and the rest of the French guys, even Michael Alise, even though he decided sir to leave the bosom of palace.
00:15:49
Wale Bakare
Well.
00:16:01
Dan Tanner
even if you and like
00:16:04
officialgspn
I mean, I'm very i'm like you Dan, I was very sad to see him go, but I almost feel like a bit like potentially the fact that Wilfred t Zaha stayed a little bit too long and should have maybe left us a little bit earlier. Maybe Michael Alise saw that and was maybe thinking I should.
00:16:21
officialgspn
I should venture to a bigger club and see if I can show people the level of my talent.
00:16:23
Dan Tanner
Even if you
00:16:26
officialgspn
And we have some amazing memories as well.
00:16:27
Dan Tanner
Well, the thing is, Zaha did leave, but then didn't make them our United squad.
00:16:34
Dan Tanner
And then came back.
00:16:36
officialgspn
This is true.
00:16:36
officialgspn
This is also true.
00:16:37
Dan Tanner
He went to Cardiff

Reflections on Zaha and New Signings

00:16:39
Henry_s fave striker
yeah
00:16:39
Dan Tanner
on loan and then got relegated.
00:16:41
Dan Tanner
Went back to United and went, now we don't want you to send you back to Palace for a cut by Steele. So he tried.
00:16:49
officialgspn
Yeah, David. David Moyes obviously didn't fancy him for whatever reason, which is, which is, I personally think his loss, but there we go.
00:16:54
Dan Tanner
I think it was one of the I think it was one of the last Ferguson transfers I think.
00:16:57
officialgspn
Wonderful.
00:17:00
Henry_s fave striker
Okay. Hmm.
00:17:01
Wale Bakare
Yeah.
00:17:01
officialgspn
I think he was the last Ferguson transfer. Yeah. Yeah. What a legacy. But there we go. Cool. And in part three, we're going to be talking about talking of transfers. We're going to be talking about Palace's transfer activity so far over the summer and what will be coming next. So yeah, join us for part three.
00:17:03
Dan Tanner
Last one, yeah.
00:17:23
officialgspn
Welcome back for part three on the Daily Palace podcast. So guys, Crystal Palace have made some acquisitions. So we have Charlie Riyadh coming in as a defender from ah from Spain, really good Spanish. I think he's dual Spanish and Moroccan national.
00:17:42
officialgspn
um Yeah, really highly rated from Real Betis. And I think he graduated from La Masia. So, I mean, That just tells you everything you need to know. Palace are signing La Masia Wonder Kids. Ah, we're going. It's all it's all going going well for us. um Also, Daichi Kamada coming in. Obviously worked before with Oliver Glazner at Uncheck Frankfurt. A very well respected player.
00:17:42
Dan Tanner
to international with like
00:17:44
Wale Bakare
Yeah.
00:18:07
officialgspn
Was playing Velazio last year. And last but not least, we also have joining us Ismaila Sa in the last few days. Guys, so Walle, what are your thoughts on the Ismaila Sa'a signing?
00:18:09
Dan Tanner
I'll get to that.
00:18:23
Dan Tanner
But.
00:18:24
Wale Bakare
Well, to be honest, it's a good sign, relatively. He's got some Premier League experience. um On his day, he's explosive. I remember, you know, Smiler saw with Watford, you wouldn't be surprised if he, you know, gets a very fantastic goal and dribbles, you know, off of the pitch and gets a goal. But then you also wouldn't be surprised if he, you know, has 10 take-ons and is only successful once in a game. you know ah sister that That was his Watford story. um I've also watched him play national team football for Senegal a couple of times and that has been the story as well. But it's just one of those signings you make and you just hope
00:19:08
Wale Bakare
It will come good, you know. And um you you just never really show what you get from him. But on the surface of it, but it's it's a good addition. You know, it' ah it's got flair. It's able to create chances. It's one of those that can make magic happen on this day. And you just really hope that you know, on that Saturday afternoon, you know, on the Palace ground, it will continue to be his day. That's all you can hope for. Well, as I said, whennie's when he's on it, he's a great player.
00:19:41
officialgspn
Absolutely. And obviously we spoke about it earlier in the podcast, Michael Elise departed for Bayern Munich, and it seems the club have done a pretty good job of maybe not finding a like for like replacement, which I think would have been an almost impossible task, as Dan was saying, an immensely talented player. And those are very difficult to find for, for cheat in the, in the current, uh, current market. Um, but players, acquisitions like Daichi Kamada, and Ismaila Saar definitely will sort of offer one some squad depth and some ah some options for for um for Oliver Glazner.
00:20:21
officialgspn
Dan, do you think there will be any big players leaving Palace this summer other than Michael Aliso?

Transfer Speculations and Squad Strategy

00:20:30
Dan Tanner
ah Well, they've still got the rumoured talks of Newcastle and Gehi. So he's probably, if anybody's going to go, because since like the Euros, he's just been the guy on everybody's shortlist. So, yeah, everybody's been sort of there with rumors of Man United, Chelsea, probably even like route the likes of Real Madrid have probably had a little look. Their defenders are getting a little bit on ah on a bit now, so getting a 20-something in.
00:21:05
Dan Tanner
but he's probably if anybody's gonna go and then maybe some sort of the the reserve team like players going out on loan or anything I think there was one or two sort of one of them going out on loan so was it ah Oxford yesterday?

Yeah, I think... Yes, Malcolm Owiebwe, I believe, has just moved on loan to to Oxford. Joe, I think you have quite quite a bit of love for Oxford United, don't you?
00:21:34
officialgspn
What what are your thoughts on...

Yeah.

yeah

That's the point where where I reveal on the on the podcast, I'm actually a dual fan of Oxford and Joe Fleetman Tessa, but for not officially.

um I think he's and he's an interesting proposition. I believe Eric Tenharg phoned him before he went to Palace to try and convince him to come and join the the youth set up at United instead, at which point in the opportunity he went, this guy sounds intense and weird and he wants to play me at like left wing back, so why I'm off to work Roy Hodgson.
00:22:06
Dan Tanner
I'm sorry.

but um he

It's one of those you really have to wait and see. I think senior football is different and whilst having shown great promise to a young player, he did seem to struggle a bit in Belgium last season. I think he he didn't really make a mark out on loan. um But at that age, players can suddenly, it can just suddenly click for them at a certain point and and go on there, find themselves in the right environment and ready to do it. And, and you know, clearly has the raw materials.
00:22:48
Henry_s fave striker
I think Palace of Wise sending players on loan to the championship and generally lower divisions in England. I think it's quite a unique thing we have while there's a ah development kind of level league
00:23:02
Dan Tanner
Yes, yes.

with super, with big and passionate fan bases. And that creates that kind of muscular competitive atmosphere that you don't necessarily get maybe on loan and in some other kind of place in Belgium.

in Belgium.

you.
00:23:35
officialgspn
It's lovely, but I don't know if it was really gonna, and again, as you, I think you were just saying, Joe, there's not an exact science to the development of a footballer.
00:23:39
Henry_s fave striker
Head.
00:23:44
officialgspn
Sometimes it just takes the right move or a little club or even like a big move. I think it's really interesting what you're saying about the championship and the importance maybe of players gaining experience in the championship. When we look at, for example, Palace's acquisitions of Michael Elise and Eberice Eze, both from championship clubs in QPR and Reading, and they were sort of almost ready made. for the Premier League because they've had that experience in the championship, which is, as we all know, a very difficult league, very competitive, very physical.
00:24:20
officialgspn
um And it's a long old season in the championship. And the fact that they were able to excel in something like that meant that they sort of have ah have an advantage that maybe some other players don't when they arrive in the Premier League. um Yeah, I believe also talking because obviously we signed Mark Moribbe from
00:24:21

Mm.

00:24:42
Dan Tanner
you
00:24:43
officialgspn
He's gone on loan now to Darby County until the end of the season. So good luck to good luck to him. Cool. Let's have a look. Wale, what are your thoughts? Do Palace need to buy any other players? Are there any areas which you think they still need to strengthen in? Or is it a case now of just holding on to what we've got?
00:25:07
Wale Bakare
Well, to to be honest, ah you you look at the Palace squad and and and you when you look at it based on the performances of the last few games you know of the previous season, and you're tempted to say, oh, we we we seem fine.
00:25:09
Henry_s fave striker
Cool.
00:25:11
officialgspn
Okay.
00:25:16
Dan Tanner
Thank
00:25:21
Wale Bakare
We just need that you know that um player that will you know make things make the difference when we need it.
00:25:21
Dan Tanner
you
00:25:27
Wale Bakare
And it became more important once Michael Alisa left ah But it it it's quite tough, you know, to to bring in players and be certain what you will get.
00:25:34
Dan Tanner
very much.
00:25:38
Wale Bakare
And for teams like Crystal Palace, there has to be, you know, sensible business done, you know. You can't afford to, you know, Man City, Liverpool, Chelsea, you know, can't afford to go get Michaela Mudrik for a lot of money and, you know, not get anything out of him for, you know, for for many seasons.
00:25:46
Dan Tanner
Thank you.
00:25:57
Wale Bakare
You know, for teams like Palace, it has to be very sensible business. And that's what you've seen with Ismaila's star. Hopefully, you know, it turns up and, you know, um you know gives them great performances. But um if Ismaila, if gay leaves, then there might be that um need to maybe ah get another center back in the sport.
00:26:08
officialgspn
you
00:26:23
Dan Tanner
I
00:26:24
Wale Bakare
i don't I'm not very hopeful that you know the but club will be able to keep him because, this to be to be fair, what we we're hearing a fee in the region of about 60 million. um In this day's market, with the current business situation of Premier League clubs, that might be too much money for you know ah the club not to be able to turn down. But if Gaei does leave, then there might be the need to you know go into the market and then get one central defender.
00:26:52
Dan Tanner
don't know.
00:26:53
Wale Bakare
It's just I hate it when you have to buy towards the end of the transfer window.
00:26:53
Dan Tanner
I don't know.
00:26:57
Wale Bakare
You just really don't know what you'll get.
00:26:58
Dan Tanner
Okay.
00:26:59
Wale Bakare
I honestly hate it when you have to do that.
00:27:04
officialgspn
Absolutely. I think you make a really good point. I think especially with obviously financial fair play being a ah common theme now for all the clubs in terms of their transfer action. um Obviously Palace will have that in consideration. I think i was I was very pleasantly surprised to hear that we were one of the only clubs ah last year not to raise our ticket prices and obviously that again is ah is another factor and I suppose
00:27:27
Wale Bakare
Thank you

Financial Pressures and Midfield Concerns

00:27:32
officialgspn
as much as it's a great thing that they haven't done that, maybe there is pressure, financial pressure to do that in terms of if Palace wanted to develop a new stand and add certain things to the club. um But yeah, so, but I would still love Mark to just stay because he, let let's be real, he was one he was one of the only ah decent performers out of that England squad. And it was, I was quite, even though I'm not an England fan myself, it was quite nice seeing him do well for England. and Yeah, but if he does go, I imagine, will as you said, we'll probably get a bit fair bit of cash for him.
00:28:06
officialgspn
But yeah, Dan, is there someone you think Palace should be signing or ah or at least a position you think that Palace need to strengthen it?
00:28:17
Dan Tanner
I would think that I think we probably need a one more sort of like central midfield player. If you go through the score, we have a lot of wingers, a lot of full backs or ones that are kind of interchanged. But having central midfield, if we lose one or more of them, we're kind of stuffed. Kind of eat sort of like that sort of playmaker kind of thing as well. But if there's any position, it'd probably be that we've got So the center forwards are doing well now.
00:28:49
Dan Tanner
We've had years of them not really performing. We've got, we've got forwards that are now, we've got, uh, we've got wingers that can now do sort of actually dictate the play and bit like that, but it's just, it's that central midfield. It's so there's like, I think three, I think, uh, there. So if we, yeah, we lose one, we're going to be in sort of a trouble or we have to sort of bring somebody up from the youth squad.
00:29:09
Wale Bakare
Thank
00:29:13
Dan Tanner
that may not be ready yet.
00:29:15
Wale Bakare
you.
00:29:15
Dan Tanner
So if it's anywhere, it's probably there. I'm not sure what what we could get for sort of the level that we're at.
00:29:24
officialgspn
working within those financial constraints? No, absolutely. I totally agree i totally agree with you. um And as we know, injuries happen during a again during a season, other factors come into place. to to To do well in the Premier League, you need a big squad and you need players for every ah two or three players for every position almost.
00:29:26
Dan Tanner
yeah
00:29:43
Dan Tanner
Well, I just think we we if we waited a couple of weeks days, we could have got col Gallagher because he just went off to Atletico Madrid for 30 something.

I think he's going to be a really good project for Simeone. I think Simeone has a certain type of player that he likes to mulk. I think he'll really...
00:30:15

I don't know. I personally think he'll do quite well under Simeone.
