Transition from Christmas to Boxing Day

00:00:10
Global Sports Podcast Network
Hello everybody and welcome back to the Daily Newcastle Podcast. And you're listening, well when you're listening to this, Christmas is officially over. Now there'll be some cheers for that and there will be some scowls as I'm saying that, but it's currently Boxing Day when you're listening to this.
00:00:20
Jo
No!
00:00:28
Global Sports Podcast Network
Unless I decide to put it out on Christmas Day and then, well, Merry Christmas. But it's the day we all stuff our faces with the Christmas dinner leftovers. I wonder why we invited those crazy in-laws over for Christmas.

Guest Introductions and Festive Preparations

00:00:39
Global Sports Podcast Network
And actually, today's podcast has three people who back up that statement pretty fantastically. So obviously we've got me and I'm also joined by Joanne. How's it going, Joanne?
00:00:49
Jo
It's great, Michael. Good to see you as always.
00:00:52
Global Sports Podcast Network
You too. And you might have heard another laugh in the background there. We're also joined by Nicola. How's it going, Nick?
00:00:58
Nicola Pringle-Adams
I am very good. Thank you. I'm ready for some Christmas food. Bring it on.
00:01:04
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yep.
00:01:04
Jo
who
00:01:05
Global Sports Podcast Network
that Christmas dinner belly buster is going to be absolutely fantastic and next time you see me on the 29th or the 30th my cheeks are going to be out here and if you if you're listening to it on Spotify you're not going to see that but it's about double the size my head normally is which is pretty big but I hope everyone's had a lovely Christmas, but we're going to be talking about what will either make or break Boxing Day for many Newcastle fans around the world, as we're going to go 12 rounds with Aston Villa.

Rivalry and Pre-Match Discussion

00:01:34
Global Sports Podcast Network
Now, for many of the fan base, there's a bit of bad blood between us and Villa, but for others, there is a bit of respect there. There's two teams that have suffered similar trauma, should we say, over recent years. But how do you feel about Thursday's opposition, Joe?
00:01:52
Jo
that's a pretty spot on, I'll be honest, cause I don't love Villa. I'm not going to pretend to love Villa. they, for some bizarre reason, took great joy when we got relegated. I never did understand that. It was almost trying to create a rivalry out of nothing in my eyes, but, down the fact that I really only just like dislike them because of that. I can't exactly say I despise them at the same time. Um, there's definitely more teams out there that I don't like.
00:02:15
Jo
above them, but you're right. I think we have got a lot in common, especially in the last few seasons, they're starting to kind of feel the suffering that we had in our champions league season. you know, spending wise where they're as restricted as we are as well. So there are a lot of similarities, but we've also had a lot of kind of exciting games between us as well. Thankfully more in our favor recently, which has been good massively in our favor on some occasions. So.
00:02:41
Jo
we can only hope and pray that Boxing Day is going to be one of those. We all know about the Boxing Day, what appears to be cursed by the way of

Newcastle's Boxing Day Curse: Can They Break It?

00:02:47
Jo
Newcastle United, whether we're at home or away.
00:02:48
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yep.
00:02:50
Jo
So I think that's more my concern and not who we're playing. We just need to put this curse almost to bed and like just a strong performance, which we're going to expect from the lads anyway after a recent games.
00:03:00
Jo
But yeah, I'm really looking forward to it, I've got to be honest. Aside from the fact that it's Boxing Day, it's at home. There's a lot of kind of pros to it, isn't there? But no, I'm feeling pretty positive as well, I've got to be honest.
00:03:08
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:03:11
Global Sports Podcast Network
Well, hopefully the Boxing Day curse ends. I personally wasn't going to mention it because if you don't mention something, it's not there. But now it's out there in the open. So who knows how it's going to go. But how about you, Nick? Do you share similar feelings about the villa?
00:03:25
Nicola Pringle-Adams
I I, their fans are quite insufferable compared to the actual teams. Like I actually don't hate Villa, which I know is a very unpopular opinion across the fan base. I actually really respect Aston Villa. like Joe says, particularly over the last sort of couple of years, we're kind of on par with them and in the same sort of boat with them.
00:03:45
Nicola Pringle-Adams
it's just their fans that have created this rivalry out of nowhere and took great pride in the fact when they relegated us. So that's what I don't like. them as a team, I've touched on this on yesterday's pod. I actually really respect them. I think what they're doing at the minute is ah ah pretty impressive. and boxing days match is going to be a game of two very good sides.
00:04:08
Nicola Pringle-Adams
But what we're seeing with Aston Villa at the minute is their game schedule is like what we were like last year. So they're sort of suffering ever so slightly. So I'm kind of hoping that plays a little bit in our favour and the lads put all their Christmas calories to use and win.
00:04:24
Global Sports Podcast Network
I had some for Newcastle

Aston Villa's Fan Dynamics and Rivalry

00:04:26
Global Sports Podcast Network
players. You've got a lot of calories to burn off and we expect at least a Bruno Gomera style coverage on Boxing Day.
00:04:29
Jo
but
00:04:35
Nicola Pringle-Adams
Absolutely.
00:04:35
Global Sports Podcast Network
But we're going back to to sort of Villa. I kind of look at Villa as very similar to Newcastle and the fanbase because 5% of their fans are absolute nagas.
00:04:46
Global Sports Podcast Network
Nick, you're absolutely right. Some of them are absolutely insufferable. Villa watch, we're talking to you.
00:04:53
Nicola Pringle-Adams
I didn't want to say anything.
00:04:56
Global Sports Podcast Network
It's a mark-up anyway, it's fine. But the 5% of the fan base is horrendous, but that 95 is actually, you know jet ah ah you know, maybe that's being generous, actually. But they're actually decent people that love their football club and can actually handle a bit of banter, which is exchanged between the clubs quite a lot. And but actually, well, we've both handled years of Steve Bruce. So yeah, larry at the very least, there's a bit of empathy.
00:05:22
Global Sports Podcast Network
Whoever threw the cabbage, good on you. We didn't think of that. We weren't good enough to do that. But ah ah we we envy you for that. But before we go into our preview, I did want to ask you both what your current thoughts are about Newcastle United. Now you will have spoke about it on yesterday's pod. A mysterious two-parter. Technical issues, it's fine. It was on our side,

Newcastle's Performance Under Eddie Howe

00:05:44
Global Sports Podcast Network
not Zencast. as Zencast is great. But 10 days ago,
00:05:49
Global Sports Podcast Network
We were pretty much saying this is the most important week in anyhow's Newcastle United career and in response we've won three games, scored 11 goals and conceded just one. So is it safe to say confidence is actually pretty high right now Nick?
00:06:05
Nicola Pringle-Adams
Yeah, I did touch on this on yesterday's pod when we were talking about the Ipswich game and how well the lads done. I did say whilst the 11 on the pitch done great, and I also think it was fair to actually compliment Eddie on what he seems to have turned around within the last couple of weeks.
00:06:26
Nicola Pringle-Adams
You know, he was under, and quite rightly in my opinion, people will disagree.
00:06:26
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:06:30
Nicola Pringle-Adams
He was under a little bit of criticism as we were so up and down, inconsistent, you know, losing to teams that we shouldn't really, I know we shouldn't say that, but really shouldn't be losing against or struggling against at least. it seems to be, he's taken the criticism, but on the back of that, he's completely turned the dressing room around. The lads have come out looking more confident than ever, playing decent football, and you know, got their intensity back, which obviously, like we said yesterday, intensity is our identity and seemed to just be smashing it out of the park and looking like
00:07:04
Nicola Pringle-Adams
they actually know how to play together instead of, I don't know, looking like they don't know how to play together. I thought it was only fair to sort of, you know, yes. Okay. We've criticized Eddie, but I thought it was only fair to also compliment him on what he seems to have turned around.
00:07:18
Nicola Pringle-Adams
So in regards to the game, I am feeling pretty confident and I'm hoping that the lads don't let me down.
00:07:23
Global Sports Podcast Network
Well,
00:07:25
Nicola Pringle-Adams
because the last three games that genuinely have been probably the best football I've seen them play this season.
00:07:27
Global Sports Podcast Network
thanks.
00:07:28
Jo
Thank you.
00:07:30
Nicola Pringle-Adams
and So that's my thoughts on that.
00:07:31
Jo
Yeah.
00:07:32
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, absolutely. I completely agree, I think, particularly in one player that stood out in particular, Joe, you'll enjoy hearing this. This is Jacob Murphy. You know, three games, three goals, three assists. If that was Lionel Messi, we wouldn't have heard the end of it. But what about you, Joe? Are you riding a bit of a high after those wins?
00:07:51
Jo
I am. And of course, I love to hear that, Michael. You know, I love to hear that.
00:07:55
Jo
I'm sure you just teed that right up for me there. Of course, thank you.
00:07:57
Global Sports Podcast Network
Of course.
00:07:59
Jo
I do appreciate that. But I'll not go on because we spent a good nine minutes yesterday talking about Jacob Murphy, much to my delight.
00:08:05
Global Sports Podcast Network
Well yeah, I want another 10.
00:08:06
Jo
Oh, you see, you see, I like your input.
00:08:06
Global Sports Podcast Network
I missed out on that yesterday, so come on.
00:08:09
Jo
I love it.
00:08:10
Global Sports Podcast Network
I don't like missing out on these things.
00:08:10
Jo
It's all right. like of It's brilliant.
00:08:15
Nicola Pringle-Adams
No idea.
00:08:15
Jo
But you're right. I mean, you know, I know I bleed on about this the guy, but I'll not keep to going on about it because he's earned his place in the team. He's performing brilliantly. Fantastic. But like Nick just said, the lads have stepped up.
00:08:27
Jo
Look, we'll never know what was going on. And we said it at the time. We're like, what is going on behind the scenes? Like what's causing them to almost look miserable on the
00:08:32
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:08:34
Jo
didn't look up for it. They didn't you know Eddie can only do what he can do and I'm not saying he was faultless but he's also not totally at fault which is what a lot of people were doing and to me I was more angry at the players at the time because I was thinking well regardless of anything you boys just know how to play together it was still a lot of the same team there wasn't many injuries we haven't got all of that to blame like we had last season
00:08:44
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:08:55
Jo
So I think the frustration came from that. Now all of a sudden, some things clicked. Like you say, Eddie probably has stuck with it because he would. He's very driven in that sense, isn't he? And that's what we love about Eddie, isn't it? He's so dedicated to his work. And the

Motivations Behind Newcastle's Improvement

00:09:09
Jo
lads to me have maybe finally stepped up for him.
00:09:12
Jo
like I say look we'll never know what was going on we're not going to know what caused this kind of downward trajectory which is exactly what it was wasn't it what looked to be no hope of coming back up at some point because they just looked a bit disjointed in every shape and form sort of thing but anyway it doesn't matter because it's over and it's exactly what we wanted for these three games we talked about it how much we're building up to it it was a huge week from if i'm honest i almost hope that the lads have thought well actually yeah we do love eddie
00:09:19
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:09:40
Jo
We want to keep them. Are we now just going to put that extra effort in and keep them? Unlike the likes of maybe Manu and players who blatantly just don't want anyone managing them because they're just destroying anyone that comes in to manage them I mean, I don't care and I think it's hilarious because obviously no love for Manu But you know what I mean?
00:09:52
Nicola Pringle-Adams
No.
00:09:53
Global Sports Podcast Network
Go ahead, Ruben.
00:09:57
Jo
I'm wondering whether it's a bit of that and they thought well no hang on a second We need to take some onus on this and perform and it's exactly what they have done.
00:09:58
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:10:02
Nicola Pringle-Adams
Yeah.
00:10:05
Jo
So no kind of yeah, nothing but positivity obviously from the last week
00:10:06
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah. Yeah, a lot of players have stepped up, particularly Tenali and Bruno actually working together in the

Midfield Synergy: Tenali and Bruno

00:10:14
Global Sports Podcast Network
midfield and for, you know, clicking, which we've said numerous times on the pod.
00:10:15
Jo
Yeah.
00:10:19
Global Sports Podcast Network
It just, it felt a little bit like a Lamport and Gerrard scenario, but I don't know what's got them clicking, but it might, whatever it is, is the greatest Christmas present Eddie Howe's ever received. They look absolutely incredible.
00:10:29
Nicola Pringle-Adams
Mm.
00:10:31
Global Sports Podcast Network
and well actually on that topic of things that are absolutely incredible we're going to swiftly move on to our first advert from Zemcaster yeah
00:10:31
Jo
do.
00:10:41
Jo
i I'm going to do it really well as well this time. Watch. Here at Global Sports Podcast Network, we spent a lot of time selecting our delivery platform. 00:11:09
Nicola Pringle-Adams
beautiful you read
00:11:11
Jo
She's back!
00:11:15
Global Sports Podcast Network
Oh, yes. I've waited for this day for so long and that tells us Newcastle fans that we are actually going to win this game.

Game Predictions: Newcastle vs. Aston Villa

00:11:24
Global Sports Podcast Network
5-1, it's happening again, putting a bet on it.
00:11:26
Jo
i
00:11:27
Global Sports Podcast Network
Santro Tenali, five minutes in.
00:11:30
Nicola Pringle-Adams
I'm under pressure.
00:11:30
Nicola Pringle-Adams
I don't think I've got the new advert that I'm about to read. so I'm about to let this pod write down.
00:11:35
Global Sports Podcast Network
And you have to go in for a bit.
00:11:37
Nicola Pringle-Adams
Sorry, sorry, sorry. three
00:11:39
Global Sports Podcast Network
Right, so excellent.
00:11:40
Nicola Pringle-Adams
Oh no, I'm going to perfectly find it.
00:11:40
Jo
oh
00:11:41
Global Sports Podcast Network
Thank you very much. So, this fixture last year was very much about the impact that new signings had on the game. Namely, who we've just mentioned, Sandro Tenali and Harvey Barnes for Newcastle.
00:11:55
Global Sports Podcast Network
Tenali picked up the early goal and bossed the game, to be honest. While, shock, Harvey Barnes came off the bench. godness I believe it was a goal and an assist. It might have been two goals.
00:12:05
Global Sports Podcast Network
I can't remember off the top of my head. Statman's having a bit of a 404 error, but it's fine.
00:12:10
Jo
Michael, if you don't know, we don't know, right? you just Dear God.
00:12:16
Global Sports Podcast Network
404 information now found.
00:12:17
Jo
guess
00:12:18
Global Sports Podcast Network
but it's Is it safe to say, Joe, that we're expecting a tougher match at Zindium's park this time around?
00:12:25
Jo
Yeah, come on. Look, we would all love exactly what happened the last time, but you've got to expect Villa are going to step it up as well. They're going to need to get something out of this game or want to get something out of this game just as much as we're going to want to.
00:12:35
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:12:37
Jo
So I do not at all think they're going to come up here and just roll over for us at all, but it always boils down and it's always what I have said. I'm very much confident in our players that if we play our game and we do what we know we can do,
00:12:51
Jo
I fully expect us still to beat them because we know we can so to me I like to put it almost it's all on us type of situation because let them play if they want to I mean not too much obviously let's not get carried away here um but but you know what I mean like it's it's I don't want to focus on oh well if they don't do this and they don't do that we need to need to focus on ourselves and if our boys play to their well but exactly what they've been doing like you say to not only play as like a beast
00:13:12
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:13:12
Nicola Pringle-Adams
Yeah.
00:13:17
Jo
if If everyone just works well and works exactly how they have in the past three games, I'm fully confident that we can put this one to bed. It might not be as dramatic as 5-1, be bloody brilliant if it is, but if it's not, <unk> I'll take a 1-0.
00:13:29
Jo
I'll take anything on Boxing Day, as long as it's a win.
00:13:32
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, as long as it's those three points, we are very, very happy.
00:13:34
Jo
That's the one.
00:13:36
Global Sports Podcast Network
do you think about the opposition? neg Are you expecting a ah tough game?
00:13:40
Nicola Pringle-Adams
It's definitely going to be more of a tough game than we had against, and this is not to be derogatory towards these teams, but than we've seen against Ipswich and Leicester. I'm going to take Brentford out of that because obviously they did beat us in the league the follow the previous
00:13:50
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:13:56
Nicola Pringle-Adams
But it's definitely going to be a more tough game compared to what we've had in the last sort of three. I don't think Aston Villa are a team that are to be, what's the word, I guess,
00:14:08
Nicola Pringle-Adams
doubted. never know, I think Villa or a team where you never know which Villa is going to turn up.
00:14:10
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:14:13
Nicola Pringle-Adams
They're either going to absolutely bring their A game or they're just going to have an off day. However, there's absolutely no reason why our team can't beat them.
00:14:18
Global Sports Podcast Network
yeah Yeah.
00:14:23
Nicola Pringle-Adams
And I'm 100% confident that we'll get the win. Like I said, it's going to be a battle of very two very good so and sorry two very good sides, but teams cannot handle when we do what we do and when we do it well.
00:14:37
Nicola Pringle-Adams
And I think that just goes to show, particularly the last three games, if we just play the football that we're so used to playing under Eddie Howe, there's no need to change it. Teams can't handle it and they break under pressure.
00:14:48
Nicola Pringle-Adams
So there's no reason why they shouldn't go out there and think for the win. I do not want to see the fact that we're playing a Champions League side and we sit back and defend for 90 minutes. We just need to go out there and start the game how we have.
00:15:00
Nicola Pringle-Adams
Look what happened on Saturday.
00:15:00
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:15:01
Nicola Pringle-Adams
Yes. Okay. We played Ipswich, which is not derogatory towards them. Alexander Esak after a high press scored within 26 seconds.
00:15:09
Jo
Uh-huh.
00:15:10
Nicola Pringle-Adams
So we just need to start the game like that and I don't think we'll have any problems.
00:15:14
Jo
Yep.
00:15:16
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah to be honest I agree if we play our game then you know realistically we shouldn't have too many problems particularly at home but it is interesting because Villa coming off a 2-1 victory against Manchester City which sounds more impressive than it is really at this point particularly if they've had 12 gifts of Christmas given it to 12 other teams they've been absolutely dreadful but And Villa have only actually beaten Brentford in Southampton in their previous nine domestic games.
00:15:45
Global Sports Podcast Network
But of course, they have also beaten Bayern Munich, RB Leipzig, got a draw against Juventus, et cetera. So it kind of feels like they're suffering from the same ah ah same hangover, should we say, that Newcastle did in the previous campaign, although they are sick in the Premier League.
00:15:46
Nicola Pringle-Adams
Oh.
00:16:02
Global Sports Podcast Network
fifth in the Champions League so they all be performing a little better than what we did last year but we definitely need to respect them going into Thursday and before we head into our second break I want to ask you both about who you think the main danger man is going to be for Villa or maybe multiple because you know they are a good team but is there anyone in that team you look at and think if we are gonna win as long as playing our game as we've just mentioned we're gonna have to keep them quiet what do you think Nick?

Potential Threats from Aston Villa

00:16:31
Nicola Pringle-Adams
Guys, I'm going to be honest, there's not many Aston Villa plays that I know that well. The only player, no, the only player that, and to be honest, yeah I wouldn't even pass him as a danger man.
00:16:35
Global Sports Podcast Network
All right, that's good. What about you, Joe?
00:16:41
Jo
Thank you.
00:16:42
Nicola Pringle-Adams
He just is a bit of a wind up merchant. but This is in my eyes, is their bloody goalkeeper.
00:16:48
Jo
Oh, it's total wind up.
00:16:49
Nicola Pringle-Adams
I don't know what it is about him, but he drives me up the absolute wall.
00:16:49
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah. Yeah.
00:16:52
Nicola Pringle-Adams
And what I worry about is if he gets this, because he's quite a hyper man when he's in goal. So right well and what I don't want to happen is him get under any of the players skins and our players react because that is something that we could really do it without.
00:16:58
Global Sports Podcast Network
yeah
00:17:06
Nicola Pringle-Adams
So yeah, I'm a little bit worried about him because I don't want him to be a wind up merchant on the day and I worry about some of our players tempers sometime because I know what I'm like. So yeah.
00:17:15
Global Sports Podcast Network
yeah Bruno in particular that Argentina-Brazil connection yeah Big Joe might just give him a clothesline like he did against Bournemouth so um maybe it's maybe that's uh maybe that's one to forget and maybe one to keep away from the goalkeeper yeah yeah I absolutely agree what about you Joe anyone in particular to look out for?
00:17:18
Jo
Oh, big Joel.
00:17:19
Nicola Pringle-Adams
Yeah. Mm hmm.
00:17:28
Nicola Pringle-Adams
And maybe, is it Duran?
00:17:31
Jo
Run.
00:17:31
Nicola Pringle-Adams
Duran, is that how you pronounce it? Yeah, he's another one that I'm a little bit probably worried about. I mean, I feel like he could probably give us a good game.
00:17:37
Jo
Yeah.
00:17:40
Nicola Pringle-Adams
Yeah.
00:17:43
Jo
I mean, I was gonna mention Duran. I mean, he scored against City as well, but isn't it a strange one that it's now seen as not a real big deal to score against City or Pete City?
00:17:51
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:17:52
Jo
It's absolutely bizarre. And they've got the early kickoff as well, you know, on Boxing Day City. e You know, the whole never back the early kickoff.
00:17:57
Nicola Pringle-Adams
and
00:17:59
Jo
It might actually benefit them for once, the irony that they're gonna be the so-called underdogs.
00:18:02
Global Sports Podcast Network
Going in as underdogs.
00:18:03
Nicola Pringle-Adams
Manchester is in a downward spiral.
00:18:05
Jo
Can you imagine?
00:18:06
Jo
But yeah, it's it's it is a funny one. that There's not massively one particular, as I say, I've mentioned Duran, McGinn is a funny one as well because he he's been playing well in general.
00:18:18
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:18:19
Jo
but i would it's it's It's funny because to me, I think Lewis Hall can handle him.
00:18:24
Jo
He's on the right, right? He's on the right wing.
00:18:25
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, yeah, you'll play on the right.
00:18:25
Jo
now yeah but i'm I'm fully confident that Lewis Hall can handle him as well.
00:18:26
Nicola Pringle-Adams
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
00:18:30
Jo
So it's a funny one. You mentioned these players and you look who's going to be marking them. I feel very confident in how our team are playing at the minute that we can actually handle any one of their players. as long as we play our game, going back to exactly what I've just said. so no, apart from that, I'm not going to single many of them out because there is no massive standout player that'll be like, Oh my God, I'm terrified of him. Cause there just isn't. Yeah.
00:18:52
Nicola Pringle-Adams
Yeah, I agree.
00:18:53
Global Sports Podcast Network
No, I understand that. I think one player that sort of hasn't been mentioned yet, who I really like, is unfortunately an ex-Middlesborough player, but it's Morgan Rogers. the City game, he looked absolutely fantastic.
00:19:03
Jo
Right. You got a goal as well, didn't you?
00:19:06
Global Sports Podcast Network
yeah He'll play on the left-hand side, and Tino's the one I'm really worried about at the back at the minute.

Midfield Battle Anticipation

00:19:13
Global Sports Podcast Network
hasn't really improved as much as what Lewis Hall has this season and sometimes looks a little bit suspect so I think if Villa are going to get anything from the game they're probably going to target that right hand side of us with Morgan Rogers but I actually think the midfield battle might be one of the most exciting in the league this season because you've got Tenali, Bruno Gomares and Joe Linton on our side and then it's Buba Kakumara, Onana and Yuri Tillamans for Villa who have been absolutely fantastic for them they dominated the game again against City so I think whoever wins that battle will win the game.
00:19:33
Jo
Hm. Yeah.
00:19:40
Jo
Oh, no, no, yeah.
00:19:50
Global Sports Podcast Network
Could be one for the ages but we're gonna go into a preview well and get our predictions in the third part so for now we'll go into our second advert of the evening for the Global Sports Podcast Network.
00:20:03
Nicola Pringle-Adams
I definitely don't think this is the right one.
00:20:04
Global Sports Podcast Network
No pressure.

Global Sports Podcast Network
absolutely beautiful and it might not have been the new one but quite frankly it was delivered so well that i don't care and i swear you reacted to one in the global sports podcast network channel about the new advert
00:20:36
Jo
Exactly.
00:20:37
Nicola Pringle-Adams
I haven't got the new one.
00:20:38
Jo
so
00:20:39
Nicola Pringle-Adams
I need to find it.
00:20:42
Nicola Pringle-Adams
I probably did.
00:20:48
Global Sports Podcast Network
But moving swiftly on, and thank you very much. This could be the toughest picture of Newcastle's holiday period. You know, Spurs look pretty dreadful. I mean, Liverpool scored six past them. Man United are in disarray, which is hilarious. But Villa actually look relatively solid and, you know, they could be a big threat to us on Thursday. So I'm going to ask you both your thoughts on how you think the

High-Scoring Game Predictions

00:21:14
Global Sports Podcast Network
game will go. We'll start with you, Nicola.
00:21:17
Nicola Pringle-Adams
I said, well, I didn't say because I knew I'd be given a prediction on this chat, but I did say in my head that I think there will be, I think it's going to be a goal fest.
00:21:24
Global Sports Podcast Network
Oh good.
00:21:26
Nicola Pringle-Adams
I think it's going to be a similar story to what we've seen with Liverpool and Spurs, you know, maybe not six, but, um, um, I think there's going to be plenty of goals and I think it's going to be literally goal to goal action. I think it's going to be an exciting game.
00:21:39
Nicola Pringle-Adams
do you want my score prediction now or not?
00:21:41
Global Sports Podcast Network
No, no, I'll ask for that later but I do agree and I do actually have to ask the question of do you talk to yourself often about Newcastle games?
00:21:42
Nicola Pringle-Adams
Okay. Okay.
00:21:48
Nicola Pringle-Adams
No, it was yesterday.
00:21:50
Global Sports Podcast Network
I think it'd be a good game. Yeah, I agree. hu
00:21:52
Nicola Pringle-Adams
No, it was yesterday when we were recording with Joe and Ian and Joe had asked Ian for his prediction and I was going to give mine.
00:22:01
Nicola Pringle-Adams
So I said it to myself, Saint Michael, Christmas, be nice.
00:22:01
Jo
Yeah. Yeah. We stayed quiet. We let Ian do his because we knew we'd be speaking on tonight's.
00:22:03
Global Sports Podcast Network
okay.
00:22:04
Global Sports Podcast Network
That's understandable.
00:22:07
Jo
That's all of today's or whatever it is.
00:22:08
Nicola Pringle-Adams
Yeah, exactly.
00:22:09
Global Sports Podcast Network
how professional.
00:22:10
Nicola Pringle-Adams
Yes, we are very professional.
00:22:10
Global Sports Podcast Network
Oof.
00:22:11
Jo
Hmm.
00:22:13
Global Sports Podcast Network
How about you, Joe?
00:22:13
Jo
Guess what, Michael?
00:22:14
Global Sports Podcast Network
Ooh.
00:22:14
Jo
What do you think Ian guessed?
00:22:17
Global Sports Podcast Network
Ooh, Ooh, um. 3-1?
00:22:23
Jo
But he said not for the same reason that he always does, which was hilarious.
00:22:23
Global Sports Podcast Network
yeah it's
00:22:27
Jo
It was just like, it's strategic.
00:22:28
Global Sports Podcast Network
a bit of that the annoying thing is the last preview i did i got in before and was like i'm saying 3-1 he changed his to 4-0 and it was right even when even when he changes the answer the answer he's got two right now and i feel like i'm responsible the ego's gonna go up and it's all my fault
00:22:29
Jo
And then there was this whole explanation where like, all right, Ian. like to
00:22:40
Nicola Pringle-Adams
know.
00:22:46
Jo
Well,
00:22:49
Nicola Pringle-Adams
Well.
00:22:50
Jo
what Whatever he does predict, right, he needs to not bet on it because whenever he predicts and then doesn't bet, he wins. But then when he bets, he doesn't win. So he needs to stop putting money on any of the ones that he is predicting because, yeah, otherwise he's getting it pretty nailed on to me.
00:23:04
Global Sports Podcast Network
And for future sponsors, I'm not gonna say stop betting, but gamble responsibly.
00:23:09
Jo
Yes. We're not promoting at all here. Ian just loved loves a cheeky little gamble. He only puts a couple of quid on though. Nothing massive, by the way, people.
00:23:16
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:23:17
Nicola Pringle-Adams
Yeah, he felt behaved.
00:23:17
Global Sports Podcast Network
Responsible.
00:23:18
Nicola Pringle-Adams
Yeah.
00:23:19
Jo
True, true.
00:23:20
Global Sports Podcast Network
But yes, how can you see the game going?
00:23:22
Jo
Well yesterday I'm gonna contradict what I said yesterday actually because I did say that I also thought it was gonna be a goal fest. I've since had a bit of a talk to myself, oddly enough, um about what I think is gonna happen in the game and I do think there's gonna be some goals but I've actually decided that it's gonna be a bit less of a goal fest and I've decided that we're gonna keep a clean sheet so I had a said that it was going to be goals on either side but i've decided it's not happening so i've had a word with eddie and the boys and i've told them that we're not conceding on boxing day just so they know lamb burn give me a salute it's all good i just about saw it from all the way up there but yeah but no no i've
00:23:52
Nicola Pringle-Adams
Thanks.
00:24:01
Jo
I think there's gonna be some goals in it but I think it's gonna be a bit tighter than I originally and I don't know why I'll be honest I think I was just maybe overthinking it but now I've dulled it down a little bit but still positive for us obviously Not even scoring Good if you make it Oh Nick
00:24:12
Nicola Pringle-Adams
Duh.
00:24:13
Global Sports Podcast Network
of course but there's no festive cheer for villa who apparently aren't going to score a goal so if you're making the long trip down from birmingham we do apologize and not just for the trains because that service is terrible but Yeah, unfortunately Nick's not.
00:24:31
Global Sports Podcast Network
For that exact reason. Has a ticket, can't get up because of the trains. Shame on you all.
00:24:35
Jo
Not good.
00:24:37
Global Sports Podcast Network
You get your pay rises and your divot even work boxing day.
00:24:40
Nicola Pringle-Adams
Ragin.
00:24:40
Global Sports Podcast Network
I mean neither am I.
00:24:41
Jo
That's why? Because they got their pay rises, they don't have to do overtime, do they?
00:24:42
Global Sports Podcast Network
Neither am I like so.
00:24:42
Nicola Pringle-Adams
Oh no.
00:24:45
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, neither are anyone good at the Newcastle match, but same point.
00:24:45
Jo
Shocking.
00:24:48
Jo
but but
00:24:50
Global Sports Podcast Network
So, to be honest, I'm inclined to agree Nick and, well, originally, you as well, Joe, I do think it'll be a bit of a goal fest. I think there does tend to be a lot of goals between the two sides, and I don't think either side's that good at defending.
00:25:03
Global Sports Podcast Network
The only positive on the Biller side is that they start and get end games quite slow so what I'm thinking is we'll get sort of an early start maybe another early Sandro Tonali goal and you know we'll see where it goes from there but we'll give our final predictions now Joe I'll start with you this time what's your final prediction okay
00:25:24
Jo
I'm going to give you both just to cover all bases. So yesterday, had I said out loud what I was going to predict was going to be 4-1 because I was going to allow them to score.
00:25:31
Global Sports Podcast Network
right confident
00:25:33
Jo
Now that I've decided that they're not allowed to score, it's going to be 3-0.
00:25:37
Nicola Pringle-Adams
Ooh.
00:25:37
Global Sports Podcast Network
Okay, so we've had a 3-1 from Ian. 3-0 from Joe. What about you Nick?
00:25:43
Nicola Pringle-Adams
I'm going for a four two.
00:25:46
Global Sports Podcast Network
Well, you've just nicked mine, so...
00:25:48
Nicola Pringle-Adams
No, I'm sorry.
00:25:48
Global Sports Podcast Network
We've got two 4-2s! I wanted to hit that one. Oh, I'm gonna be bald, you know. I'm gonna go 4-2 now.
00:25:55
Global Sports Podcast Network
No, I completely agree with you. Yeah, you know what? 4-3. Newcastle win it in injury time.
00:25:55
Jo
Michael, take my old full one.
00:26:01
Jo
it like to No, no, no.
00:26:01
Global Sports Podcast Network
Happy days.
00:26:03
Nicola Pringle-Adams
No, we don't need it like that.
00:26:04
Jo
No, Michael, please, please don't be right.
00:26:05
Global Sports Podcast Network
We're sat there in the stadium having a heart attack, it's fine.
00:26:08
Jo
We'll kill you.
00:26:09
Global Sports Podcast Network
yeah complete I do completely agree with the 4-2, I think we'll score first.
00:26:11
Nicola Pringle-Adams
Brilliant Agreed
00:26:15
Global Sports Podcast Network
Villarreal, Pushwood, they'll be on the offensive, they are a good side and we'll hit them on the break exactly as Liverpool did. Hopefully it's an absolute goal first, we all get a lot of goals and there's a lot of chanting in an energetic stadium where everyone's not off their nut but loud enough and drunk enough that the atmosphere is absolutely fantastic.
00:26:27
Jo
the Agree?
00:26:36
Global Sports Podcast Network
So that's all from us at the Daily Newcastle team for this game. In this preview, should I say, once again, we hope you've had a fantastic Christmas and hopefully our Boxing Days will be even better. But for now, that's all and we'll see you later.
