Global Sports Podcast Network
Welcome to the Daily Newcastle Podcast and Happy New Year. It is the first of January 2025. I couldn't be spending it with two better people.

00:00:20
Global Sports Podcast Network
I'm going to introduce the guest first before I do any sort of an introduction because it just feels right that we get to wish you a Happy New Year too.
00:00:25
Global Sports Podcast Network
So my first guest with the greatest piece of, is that a headband? I don't know what that is. It says Happy New Year, but it's brilliant.
00:00:31
Jo
You know I love my headbands, right?
00:00:34
Global Sports Podcast Network
It's obviously Joe. Joe, are you excited for the new year?
00:00:37
Jo
Yeah, I mean, Christmas is my main thing, I've got to be honest.

Hopes for Newcastle in 2025

00:00:40
Jo
And like we just mentioned before the pod started, gone all the partying days. It's sad times really, but I'm going to have a lovely curry at night. Our parents are coming around and then Nicole's dead excited because she gets to stay up at midnight.
00:00:51
Global Sports Podcast Network
I'll tell you whose party and days aren't over as our next guest. Mr Ian Mackay. He goes all night long. Lionel Richie. Just non-stop. How you doing Ian?
00:01:02
Global Sports Podcast Network
You looking

Premier League Standings & Newcastle's Performance

00:01:03
Iain
ah um was i've ah Well, I am looking forward to the new year because I think 2025 might be the first year when I'm not wearing short trousers and Newcastle might win something.
00:01:03
Global Sports Podcast Network
forward to a new year?
00:01:15
Global Sports Podcast Network
oh
00:01:15
Iain
That's why I'm looking forward to it.
00:01:17
Global Sports Podcast Network
Oh, the castle might win something. Oh my God.
00:01:20
Iain
You never know.
00:01:20
Global Sports Podcast Network
I'm excited already. I'm excited already.
00:01:23
Iain
yeah
00:01:23
Global Sports Podcast Network
Anyway, it's been a week where Liverpool are now the runaways of a Premier League after Chelsea have been shut down in alize a blaze of glory. Nottingham Forest need to decide if it's now or never in terms of investing to secure the Champions League in Newcastle. They've given Man United a dose of bad medicine and dominating Man United at Old Trafford. What a time it has been over this Christmas period. Loads of games happening. and Quite a big change in the table as well. you Look at where we are now. We are fifth.
00:01:50
Global Sports Podcast Network
In the league, which is Champions League spots, coefficient spots, do you think we can keep it up?

Transfer Window Discussion: Budget & Targets

00:01:55
Global Sports Podcast Network
Do you think we can actually stay fifth place? Ian?
00:01:58
Iain
I think we can push on from that. I think I'm watching um what should Chelsea having got two points out of the last nine.
00:02:00
Global Sports Podcast Network
Ooh.
00:02:05
Iain
I'm convinced that Nottingham Forest will tip morgan gives us white they'll get injured and they'll fall off. And then that just puts us on the coattails of Arsenal and Liverpool. And why not?
00:02:15
Global Sports Podcast Network
Wow.
00:02:16
Iain
Still got both of them to play. Let's get after them.
00:02:20
Global Sports Podcast Network
Joe, do you share the same optimism?
00:02:22
Jo
Yeah, I'm, yeah, come on, man, we've got to make top four.
00:02:23
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:02:27
Jo
Forest, they've been brilliant, fair play at them, right?
00:02:27
Global Sports Podcast Network
well
00:02:29
Jo
But they'll slip away. And like Ian said, we can get ahead of some of these guys, man. Top three, I'm going through three at third or fourth at the minute. I'm feeling like super confident. I appreciate it's off the back of five wins in a row, but sod it.
00:02:41
Global Sports Podcast Network
Well, I was about to say, I was about to say, I was about to say, abouty, abouty, abouto, I haven't got a clue what's going on.
00:02:42
Jo
We're finishing third or fourth.
00:02:47
Global Sports Podcast Network
I was about to say, we've got five wins in a row, 16 goals scored, one conceded winner, a cup semi-final, our first hat wreck in five years, and we emptied all traffic. So it's been a very, very successful month indeed, and it's amazing.
00:03:02
Global Sports Podcast Network
We're just over three weeks ago. Some people were saying, Eddie, how about? I'm not going back to that again, because I've made my feelings on that very, very clear. Right, well, it's January 1st, like I said at the start, and the transfer window is open. Boom, that whoosh noise which comes across on breaking news on Sky Sports. It's open. So what I thought I would ask is is, who do we want to sign realistically? And our kind of logic behind what we have to work with here for the listeners is 70 million pound was getting branded around in my summer for Markehi so I'm assuming if we want it and the price isn't ridiculously overpriced we can spend 70 million

Right-Wing Player Needs & Potential Signings

00:03:38
Global Sports Podcast Network
ish. I don't think you would be offering that type of money for a cent and a half in my summer if it wasn't there at all. So we're gonna go our max is 70 million and I want you to tell me who you want the club to sign or target but let's say we can sign them as long as it's under 70 million.
00:03:53
Global Sports Podcast Network
um What's the sensible fee for that player and why do you want that player? So that's what I'm going to ask you in this first part and we're all going to pick one each. I don't know specifically in terms of what people are worth but we just need to justify what we think we're getting for it's a bit of fun. So with a transfer window being opening and coming to you first, transfer windows open you've got about 70 million pound. Who do you want the club to target? Who are you telling Eddie Howe to go and target and for what price and why?
00:04:21
Iain
Well, sorry, Joanne. I think what we need most of all is an elevation to the class of who we've got playing down the right wing. And that means your boy Murphy needs to retake his squad member spot instead of first choice down the right.
00:04:39
Jo
He likes it, really.
00:04:40
Iain
and I'm not trying to put down what Jacob Murphy's done, certainly, in this last month. He's been terrific. Goals, assists, ah fantastic defensive performance, actually, quite unsung yesterday against Man United, I and thought.
00:04:54
Iain
But yeah, I think we need a right winger. In terms of who we were going to go and get, I'd love Mbeu or Semenyo, but I think they might both be very, very overpriced.
00:05:05
Global Sports Podcast Network
Hmm.
00:05:09
Iain
So my kind of out of left field suggestion. Would be to go back to Brighton. And ask if we can buy. Yeah, Cooper Minter back for the price that they paid for him because they're not picking him now.
00:05:24
Global Sports Podcast Network
What a shout that is,

Analyzing Player Performance & New Signings

00:05:26
Global Sports Podcast Network
by the way, you're not unbelievable.
00:05:26
Jo
Yes.
00:05:29
Global Sports Podcast Network
Where's that come from?
00:05:29
Iain
Well.
00:05:30
Iain
I just I just so disappointed that we didn't get a chance to see that I play. He did so well. I mean, it's such a great pick initially. Is it the one thing that that damn Ashworth did for us, that that that was was what he gets his reputation for, to find him and bring him in for six million, eight million, whatever it was.
00:05:50
Iain
We send him to Holland, where he's pulling up trees in the Champions League. And then he's he goes for 33 million to Brighton without even pulling on a Newcastle shirt.
00:06:02
Iain
I don't think that's right. I don't think that's right. I'd love to get Elliot Anderson back as well, by the way, but I think he might already have double doubled his 30 million productile price.
00:06:08
Jo
Yeah.
00:06:11
Global Sports Podcast Network
You could buy them for 60 if we've got 70, if you think Eddie Anderson's worth 60 million, but I don't think many people will be convinced that Eddie Anderson is worth 60 million. To be fair, if you get a minute for the money we pay, let's just round up to 35.
00:06:18
Iain
No.
00:06:22
Global Sports Podcast Network
You've still got 35 left. Is there anybody else you want to mention who you'd be interested in?
00:06:26
Iain
Oh, well, why don't we, um, why don't we sell Miggy and take the 10 million that's been offered for him and add that to it and go and pay the right price for Mark Gay. He around about 45, 50 million.
00:06:39
Iain
I think we're getting for that.
00:06:40
Global Sports Podcast Network
Fair. His contract does end them in the summer and with Botman coming back, I think we're better off waiting.
00:06:42
Jo
get
00:06:46
Global Sports Podcast Network
Just get him on a free next season and Botman's back, Kraft will be back. We're covered in my area until Gehi makes that free transfer across to us. Right, Joe, who's your one man?
00:06:56
Jo
Mm hmm.
00:06:58
Global Sports Podcast Network
70 million pound to spend-ish, I'm assuming. Again, the logic is literally just because we offered bad for Gehi in the summer. and Who is it your target and who are you telling Eddie to get? How much are you telling him to pay for him and why do you want him?
00:07:10
Jo
Well, um it might be a surprise to you, but Ian, but strange enough, I'm also going to go for a white winger as much as I love my boy, Jacob.
00:07:16
Global Sports Podcast Network
Oh.
00:07:18
Jo
I have said from the start, I'm not delusional about him. My love for him is very high. However, I do know he's not going to be going to play it this way forever. He's like literally at the peak of his career right now.
00:07:28
Jo
He'll probably know that as well. He's going to be a great squad player and I think he'd be happy to be a squad player as well. So I do not in any shape a form want him sold. By the way, I would happily sell multiple players before him.
00:07:40
Jo
Miggie included by the way. um But no, right winger is going to be my choice and I was going to go 4 in Bremel because that guy can score goals, in fact he scores more goals actually than he provides assists ironically.
00:07:44
Global Sports Podcast Network
who amazing
00:07:54
Jo
um I mean so far this year he's on 10 goals and 2 assists in the league

Building a Stronger Squad: Strategy & Debate

00:08:00
Jo
with 1 in the cup. fairly great record nine and six the previous year and 98 the year before that that's a decent record i would say for the last three years um from a player that i think we can get for a fairly decent price again i've got to be honest here i'm just going to totally plug a figure out of the air um however because you've said i've got 70 million to spend right i have got it written down that gay he would be my other one so we can do a combined deal somewhere in the region of we're going to spend 70 million for him where more and gay he 70 million max i might like some change out that'll be honest and we're not even selling miggy to fund this by the way that's 70 million alone for those two why
00:08:37
Global Sports Podcast Network
I think there's no way our Brentford letting them women go for anything less than 50. Brentford just ah too good at making money.
00:08:43
Jo
we can negotiate man i know they are i know i'm delusional on this one i am
00:08:45
Global Sports Podcast Network
You're a little bit like brightening that sentence.
00:08:50
Global Sports Podcast Network
You could make a memory number one target and maybe go for a 50, 55 million pound bid for And Remo Jaffing would be probably a little bit overpriced, but again, he would be he would get us excited.
00:09:00
Global Sports Podcast Network
He would get us off our seats, wouldn't he?
00:09:02
Jo
He would get us very excited.
00:09:02
Global Sports Podcast Network
so
00:09:03
Jo
out' All right. 50 million is going to get allocated to him by more. If we sell Maggie, we've got 30. They can have 30 for gay. There we go. um I don't want to spend too much on gay.
00:09:10
Global Sports Podcast Network
Fairly.
00:09:12
Jo
I'll be honest, but I would still like him. cause I think Eddie can do so much with him and he's, he's still a great age.
00:09:14
Global Sports Podcast Network
Palace could shoot. He'd take almost anything. His contract expires in six months. It's either 30 million or 25 million or nothing.
00:09:22
Jo
Nuts, isn't it? Yeah.
00:09:24
Global Sports Podcast Network
what what Why would you take nothing and have him for six months when you could at least get 25, 30 million for a player who's not going to sign a new contract by Oluksova?
00:09:29
Jo
Yeah.
00:09:32
Jo
hundred percent.
00:09:33
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, very, very strange that Palace rejected that transfer in in the summer, if I'm honest, but it is what it is.
00:09:37
Jo
Mm hmm.
00:09:39
Global Sports Podcast Network
um I think there are two very good shouts. Mine are both right-wingers.
00:09:44
Global Sports Podcast Network
That tells us where we are as fans at the minute. I love Jacob Murphy and just like Ian and you yourself have said, Joe, I don't want to take anything away from him. I'd still keep him in my squad. He'd still get games and cup competitions off a bench.
00:09:44
Jo
Mm hmm.
00:09:55
Global Sports Podcast Network
Start when we need to rest, play, etc.
00:09:56
Jo
ah
00:09:58
Global Sports Podcast Network
But... Mine is I've i've estimated about 55 million pounds of his player just because he's in red hot form in the last four games but before that I think I might have got him for 45 but he's definitely had an extra 10 million on him the last two or three weeks.
00:10:11
Global Sports Podcast Network
Mine's Anthony Alanga we actually bid for him in the summer. on the last day and we bid 35 million and not in the forest. We're like, no way. We want at least 45 million. And I think that probably went up to 55 now that he's scored. I think he's got three assists and two goals and he's last three games. So he's in very good form, but before that he was in very poor form. So I think somewhere in his head at the start of this season, it was at Newcastle. He's probably thinking of playing with Isaac because obviously we're both Swedish.
00:10:40
Global Sports Podcast Network
and He was probably thinking of playing with Isaac, who's his mate. He was probably thinking, oh, I'm going to go to Newcastle. I'm going to try and get into Europe. Obviously, he had no idea. Forest would do as well as what we have done at the start of the season. And um and I feel like, again, forests are but under PSR constraints because, again, they had to sell us their goalkeeper and buy Anderson. And it was a very dodgy deal, that one, where it was for the benefit of both clubs. But Newcastle didn't want to sell Anderson. and We had to buy their keeper as part of it, very strange.
00:11:09
Global Sports Podcast Network
So I think 55 million for Alanga would be, I think, quite a fair price. He's young. I think he's 23, 24 years old. Imagine Eddie Hall with him so fast.
00:11:19
Global Sports Podcast Network
We saw what he did to Dan Berners and James as part of Eddie Hall. We can get the best out of him on the right and the best out of Gordon on the left with EZAC through the middle. My God, that would terrify most
00:11:20
Jo
Uh-huh.

Transfer Possibilities & Strategic Planning

00:11:30
Global Sports Podcast Network
teams, wouldn't it?
00:11:30
Global Sports Podcast Network
The pace on the wings with these in the middle would just be amazing.
00:11:31
Jo
Uh-huh.
00:11:33
Global Sports Podcast Network
So I would love to see Newcastle at least try and go in for him. Forest might just turn around and say, no, we're second in the league. We're not going to sell anybody. But, hey, 55 million with PSR. Can we really turn that down?
00:11:45
Global Sports Podcast Network
It would be interesting to see. A second one who has been linked with Newcastle, another right winger, Johan Bakayogo. but he plays for PS3 in the Dutch league.
00:11:52
Jo
Mm.
00:11:54
Global Sports Podcast Network
I'm very, as I've said many times, I'm very wary of the Dutch league because CM Dionne, Luke Dionne were both brilliant in that league, came in the capital and were absolutely hopeless.
00:11:59
Jo
ah
00:12:04
Global Sports Podcast Network
So I would love to see you back at your goal and I'm seeing this on nothing other than YouTube videos. He looks a little bit like St. Maximin but works harder. So that gets me very excited when he's just taking people on and flicking over the head.
00:12:15
Global Sports Podcast Network
So I'd like to see him come in. I think the rumour is £35 million for him. So if we can sell Migi for 10 I can get both of them right wingers and so ah Murphy might have to play left wing. We'll see.
00:12:25
Jo
a bit much.
00:12:25
Global Sports Podcast Network
We'll see what happens. We don't need two right wingers. I'm just being greedy now. Is there any other kind of honorable mentions who you would like to see us attempt to sign? I'll go back to Ian first. Is there anybody else you think, you know, there's no price tag on this but we're gettable for Newcastle, Ian?
00:12:40
Iain
Do you know what? I it i mean, not not in the circumstances you've given us to play with. However, I think if this is the if this is the transfer window where we shift into a trading club, that we should be moving on Sean Longstaff, Harvey Barnes, but then and then I would love to bring in Isaac's Swedish striking partner, Guy Kourash, or whatever he's called.
00:12:59
Global Sports Podcast Network
I'm gonna come to that in part two.
00:13:06
Global Sports Podcast Network
Oh. Yeah.
00:13:09
Iain
they would be, well, yes, that would be a massive statement and we could afford it.
00:13:11
Global Sports Podcast Network
That'll be a statement.
00:13:17
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, especially, especially with everybody wanting him, if he then choose Newcastle, that's a big moment of, oh, oh, they're here at to play

Squad Evaluation & Contract Renewals

00:13:24
Global Sports Podcast Network
now. We sat 50. We've just signed one of the most sought after strikers in the world. He's chosen Newcastle. That would be unbelievable to see. However, I do have a little bit of a thing with him. He looks great in Portugal, but He wasn't great, it was a Brighton he was at.
00:13:39
Global Sports Podcast Network
I know he hardly got any games, but how can you not get picked a Brighton if you're that good? And then Coventry was very good, but again, it was a championship. When he went to Lisbon, and he's just turned into a beast.
00:13:49
Global Sports Podcast Network
So, hey, maybe it might just be maturity.
00:13:51
Global Sports Podcast Network
And again, I wonder how you can believe it.
00:13:51
Iain
Just getting up, getting on, yeah.
00:13:53
Iain
it's It's just maturity and experience, Kev, you know.
00:13:54
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:13:57
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yep, could be spot on, could be spot on.
00:13:59
Jo
yeah
00:14:00
Global Sports Podcast Network
Joe, any other kind of maybe ones you would chuck in there? Again, doesn't have to apply by them rules where we've just went into detail, but just people you would like to see us target.
00:14:09
Jo
Um, there's no actually one in particular, but the one I was, the thing I was going to say is that we would need a keeper as well, but I doubt that's going to happen until at least the summer, obviously. Um, Pope just hasn't been the same since his injury.
00:14:21
Global Sports Podcast Network
James Trafford.
00:14:22
Jo
I don't know if he's now got, cause you do have, well, traffic is an obvious one, but yeah, it's, as I say, I didn't really start thinking too much into exactly who I wanted as a keeper. Cause I honestly don't think there's no chance that's happening in January.
00:14:34
Jo
and But I do think it could be a big thing in the summer to keep our side of things because like I said Pope just hasn't been the same as he since his injury.
00:14:37
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, good point.
00:14:42
Jo
He almost looks scared to go in certain ways or land in certain ways which is a massive problem. You can't be like that in the Premier League. you You've got to be alert and you've got to be able to dive in any situation or whatever.
00:14:52
Jo
He saves a lot with his feet now. I don't know if you've noticed and um Dubs isn't the answer. He's been great recently. I'm not going to slag Dubs by the way, but he has been great in the last few games, but he's not the answer. Plus he's getting old. So I keep it in the summer, but no, I hadn't put too much focus on January for that one.
00:15:08
Iain
The goalkeeper we need is Callaher at Liverpool, who is up against Allyson anyway. However, they've got Marmadash Villy coming in the summer.
00:15:16
Global Sports Podcast Network
Mm-hmm Yep Great point
00:15:19
Iain
He's going to be third choice in the summer, so we get him. He's a fabulous goalkeeper.
00:15:23
Jo
Reach out.
00:15:24
Global Sports Podcast Network
Or do you be mega cheeky with Kellera and Marmadashvili being younger and Alison being 33? Do you go in and say, well, we'll take Alison off your hands for three or four years. That'll be a statement again, just because again, we can't keep Marmadashvili and Kellera on the bench.
00:15:35
Jo
wouldn't it?
00:15:39
Global Sports Podcast Network
So if you say no to Alison, which you probably will, we'll laugh that off, won't we? Say, well, okay, we'll have your third. I say, we'll take Kellera. And then I'll be like, okay, so we're not going to give him Alison, obviously. We're not going to give him Marmadashvili because we just signed him.
00:15:52
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, we'll probably have to give you credit. So that's a great point. My kind of wishful thing was, and there's no chance of this happening unless I wake up and it's all been a dream. and He's on a free transfer. Why not go try and get Mohamed Salah and make a statement? If you qualify for the Champions League this year,
00:16:07
Global Sports Podcast Network
Do you want a fresh challenge more? Why don't you come play on the right wing for us with EZAC, with Gordon, sell the club to him, give him 300 grand a week, give him what he wants.
00:16:09
Jo
but to oh oh my god not happening i was gonna say he's on the hard stuff
00:16:16
Global Sports Podcast Network
He is worth every penny. Think of a shirt sales, think of a commercialisation in Africa. Oh my God, you could literally turn the Premier League on its head. I agree. There's no chance of that happening, by the way, but that would be one just completely out there for me.
00:16:31
Iain
I'm drinking coffee, Kev, but I'll have a glass of whatever it is that you've been on.
00:16:34
Global Sports Podcast Network
I know, I know, I know there's no chance of that happening.
00:16:35
Iain
Blimey.
00:16:38
Global Sports Podcast Network
I know there's no chance, but that was my dream one. Realistic ones are a line going back to you all, but yeah, we'll see. Anyway, after an extended part one, I'm sure a Zencast will be very happy because this advert is coming almost bang in the middle of the ever episode, so they'll be really happy.
00:16:52
Global Sports Podcast Network
Of course, it's Zencast to Queen. Joe, take it away.
00:16:56

00:17:19
Global Sports Podcast Network
Fantastic. That was back to her best as well.
00:17:21
Jo
There it is.
00:17:21
Global Sports Podcast Network
She's back in form now, just like in the castle.
00:17:22
Jo
Back in form.
00:17:23
Global Sports Podcast Network
That's two in a row. She needs to make it five and row in a row and a couple of that risk in there.
00:17:25
Jo
ah the pressures on
00:17:27
Global Sports Podcast Network
and Right, part two, Ian's very briefly touched on this. um We do have to talk about selling players as well. We have to talk about players who are out of contract now. I've done a little bit of research, not too much. I want to tell the listeners I've already told you guys this and I think you might have made notes. and The players whose contract run out at the end of this season are Callum Wilson, 32 years old, injured.
00:17:52
Global Sports Podcast Network
Fabian Shaw, 33 years old.
00:17:54
Jo
Precious on.
00:17:54
Global Sports Podcast Network
Jamar Lacells, 31 years old, also injured. Jamar Lewis, 26 years old, injured. Emile Kraft, 30 years old, injured. Martin de Brava, 35 years old.
00:18:04
Global Sports Podcast Network
Gillespie, 32. And John Ruddy is 38 years old. Their contract expired at the end of the season. So, since we're talking about seven, we're going to chuck Longstaff and Armour on in there as well because there's been links for both of them.
00:18:12
Iain
Thank you.
00:18:17
Global Sports Podcast Network
but Is there any of these players whose contracts are running out, you wouldn't be interested in renewing and would like to sell? um and I mean, again, you're not going to get much money from them. Let's be honest, because the contracts are about to expire. Just like we were talking about with Gehe, clubs would much rather wait until the summer and get them players on a free.
00:18:36
Global Sports Podcast Network
But Longstaff and Miggy is a little bit different. There's talks of eight to ten million pounds for Miggy from either Argentinian clubs or American clubs, you know, North America, South America teams. And then Longstaff has been all of a sudden, john like December 31st, there was just news about Leeds being interested, Everton being interested.
00:18:56
Global Sports Podcast Network
Is that something I could be looking at to kind of cash in now whilst we can? and So I guess my question is is, who would you sell or look to sell or aim to sell? and And out of them players whose contracts are expiring, I think there's one obvious one, but who would you renew pretty quickly before people can talk to them? at The sign in January. I'll go to Joe first this time. um I guess we'll start with the expiring players, Joe.
00:19:19
Jo
The actual expiring players will not talk about long stuff yet, no. um Yeah, yeah.
00:19:22
Global Sports Podcast Network
Quite yet, I'll cover that in a second, just out of M players, Wilson, Charles, Lewis, Kraft, Dobbs, Gillespie, Ruddy, who of them would you renew?
00:19:26
Jo
Mm-hmm.
00:19:31
Jo
Um, who I'd renew shares an absolute given because I want him to finish his career with us, by the way.
00:19:35
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, I agree, I'm amazed it hasn't been done yet.
00:19:38
Jo
Yeah. So that's just a given for so many reasons. He will naturally start to play less games as he gets older. I think he'll accept that I'll be honest. Um, but I'd love him to see how he's career with us, um, and stay however long that is.
00:19:51
Jo
ah But we've talked about how little energy seems to use in the game and he probably does have a good few years because of that.
00:19:57
Global Sports Podcast Network
And he's never relied on Pierce. He's never been fast.
00:19:59
Jo
Exactly that.
00:19:59
Global Sports Podcast Network
so
00:20:00
Jo
Yeah. the factor is is thirty four is knee that rate um
00:20:04
Global Sports Podcast Network
He is, let me just double check, he's 33, 33 years old.
00:20:06
Jo
go
00:20:09
Jo
<unk>
00:20:10
Global Sports Podcast Network
He was born on December 20th, 1991.
00:20:13
Jo
he's just turned 33 what an idiot um i knew that i've wished him happy birthday obviously in my head um but yeah so yeah out hundred percent him the cells i i would as a as a squad player only but i think it would accept being a squad player only anyway um i might be bang wrong with that because i don't know what lisselles do uh um but i would i'll be honest did bravka's a funny one for me because i don't think we're actually in a position to sell because of pope situation
00:20:14
Global Sports Podcast Network
He's turned 33.
00:20:39
Jo
Um, so I think if Pope wasn't injured, we might have considered selling them just to get some money if we weren't planned on extending. Again, sometimes you don't know what's going on behind the scenes, do you? Um, so I think Dubravka is going to stay, but then I'm not sure what will happen in the summer. Like will he end up just leaving on a free as a result? But I just, I can't see him leaving the January window because of the Pope situation. I've got to be totally honest with you. Um, Kraft, I would keep as a squad player. I like Kraft. I like what he can do for the team.
00:21:07
Jo
he's came in and he's done a really good job and if I'm honest I think he's very underestimated he was getting a bit of a hard time when he came in the last time but then proved us wrong in the sense of it he was solid and he was a lot better than anyone expected him to be but again look we know he's not a starter but if he would be happy to be re-signed as a squad player I'd keep him as well. The rest I would say go but then again Wilson were not Wilson needs to go.
00:21:32
Jo
It's nothing against him. We love Wilson, but we can't keep someone on the books who never plays. It's as simple as that. Even if he has a couple of months to see it, which is looking like we'll get the maximum of a couple of months to seize now.
00:21:44
Jo
Um, I dunno, but he'll not go in January. He's injured. So it's, it's, it's a strange one, isn't it? So he's such an, I dunno, unpredictable.
00:21:51
Global Sports Podcast Network
What about, what about you, Ian? Who, who of them would you want to keep and would you try and cash in on any?
00:22:00
Iain
On the players whose contracts are expiring, I think, I don't think we've got very much riddle room. I do think that if there's a decent offer for Dubravka, we should sell him.
00:22:11
Iain
It's the one chance we've got of raising cash on him. And put I would put the but to CS Vlakev, what you call him, the Greek goalkeeper.
00:22:15
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, I agree.
00:22:22
Iain
He's an international goalkeeper. He looked really good for Greece when they played at Wembley against England. um Why not?
00:22:29
Jo
I don't know, man.
00:22:29
Iain
He's only going to have to cover three or four games and then Nick Pope's going to be back.
00:22:33
Jo
Hopefully.
00:22:33
Iain
and Or maybe, maybe, maybe Kelleher, they get a decent, much better price for Kelleher now than they do waiting until the summer.
00:22:35
Jo
I don't know. I think it's a risk, man.
00:22:43
Iain
I don't know. and Maybe we do buy a goalkeeper, this this this transfer window. ah But yeah, I mean, i I would hang on to Shah, definitely.
00:22:52
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yep, I agree.
00:22:53
Iain
I would hang on to Lasells. There's so much, He's missed a Newcastle really, isn't he? I think he's a big voice in the in the dressing room. Kraft as well. I was impressed when he came and stepped in. He's never let us down. How old is Kraft?
00:23:10
Global Sports Podcast Network
Emile Craft is 30 years old.
00:23:14
Iain
Right. So, yeah. Two-year contract extensions for each of those boys, I would say. um And then but then, you know, I don't ah don't really know what the others are actually doing.
00:23:27
Iain
Jamal Lewis, he went ages ago. Just an accident, an accident.
00:23:29
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, he went off on loan and when he's returned from his loan injured.
00:23:31
Iain
that Yeah.
00:23:34
Global Sports Podcast Network
So I'm assuming he's just going to let his contract go and he'll be off of wage budget at least.
00:23:39
Jo
yeah
00:23:40
Global Sports Podcast Network
and
00:23:41
Iain
nobody's
00:23:42
Global Sports Podcast Network
you guys are
00:23:42
Iain
Nobody's explained to me what Gillespie actually does. He's just got the best job in the world.
00:23:47
Jo
yeah yes yeah it's just there for the books
00:23:47
Iain
He just trade trains with Newcastle.
00:23:47
Global Sports Podcast Network
Greatest job in the world.
00:23:49
Iain
And I think John Ruddy is, John Ruddy's just the same, isn't he?
00:23:54
Global Sports Podcast Network
yeah I think, I think Rudy's probably got like a coaching, coaching kind of contract.
00:23:55
Iain
What does he do?
00:23:59
Global Sports Podcast Network
I think that was, that was quite clear at the beginning.

Zencaster Promotional Segment

00:24:03
Global Sports Podcast Network
He was coming in as I keep a coach slash emergency. If anything, God forbid happens injury wise, then he would play like fifth choice. But I don't think he came to please come to pretty much get a career here on the coaching team. I think I think I agree with you in terms of end players. However, I love Jamal the cells, but I wouldn't keep the cells and craft because if you keep craft center half wise, you've got Shaw, Batman, Burn, Kelly, and then craft would be fifth choice center half.
00:24:33
Global Sports Podcast Network
so would LaSells, so I think if you get a little bit of money for LaSells, I know he's pretty much back soon, and I think you'll probably get more money for LaSells from a championship team and you wouldn't be able to craft. Maybe it's time for LaSells to go?
00:24:44
Jo
But craft can cover on the right as well though.
00:24:46
Global Sports Podcast Network
You can.
00:24:46
Jo
Do you know what I mean? Craft can cover the right back as well.
00:24:49
Global Sports Podcast Network
You can, and that's why I would keep craft over LaSells. I wouldn't keep them both, and that hurts me to say that, because I loved them all, LaSells, Captain of Newcastle, still up for us.
00:24:51
Jo
Oh yeah.
00:24:57
Global Sports Podcast Network
When the players were in embarrassment, he was part of that horrendous era, and he was one of a kind there. wasn't a shining light. I'm not going to give him that much credit, but he was ah a bit of positivity in that dark time where he would come out and say what he feels.
00:25:07
Jo
Mm hmm.
00:25:08
Global Sports Podcast Network
He was a very good captain and I would never say anything he's done for us. But I think it might be time to try and cash in or or just not renew and get him off of wage books. And again, I agree.
00:25:19
Global Sports Podcast Network
It's the same for Callum Wilson. I love Callum Wilson. Probably one of my favourite strikers of the last 10 years, easily. um But if he can't get on the pitch, maybe he just needs a fresh start, somewhere broad, maybe go to Saudi, earn loads of money.
00:25:33
Global Sports Podcast Network
But for me, he's our second all-time Premier League top goal scorer, so yeah, he's one of them. and This episode is pretty...
00:25:38
Iain
By the time he's fit again, by the way, he won't be the second best Premier League goalscorer because Isaac is five goals behind him and he'll score that before Callum Wilson gets back on the pitch.
00:25:40
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:25:48
Jo
Yeah.
00:25:49
Global Sports Podcast Network
I hope so. I hope so.
00:25:50
Jo
Yeah.
00:25:50
Global Sports Podcast Network
But even many he still have a third all-time top Premier League scorer, so he deserves some sort of send-off.
00:25:51
Jo
Yeah.
00:25:54
Iain
Yeah.
00:25:56
Global Sports Podcast Network
But I agree it's probably the right time.
00:25:56
Jo
Yeah.
00:25:58
Global Sports Podcast Network
This episode is going to go on longer, but hey, it is what it is. Let's talk about the players we could potentially cash in on then. Actually, we'll do that in part three. We'll go for an advert now with Ian. m And then we'll come back to part three.
00:26:09
Jo
if
00:26:10
Global Sports Podcast Network
We'll talk a little bit about some players you could cash in on. And there's a tiny little quiz as well. Off you go, Ian.
00:26:18
Iain
And this advert is for all you ladies lying in bed trying to get off this. It's not my fault. It's because somebody said I had a ah voice that could read bedtime stories. Thanks for that.
00:26:29
Global Sports Podcast Network
When you say get off to sleep.
00:26:29
Jo
ian man
00:26:31
Jo
wow
00:26:32
Global Sports Podcast Network
I'm not going there.
00:26:32
Jo
Wow, that looked, that sounded a bit naughty.
00:26:33
Iain
OK.
00:26:34
Global Sports Podcast Network
It does have a fantastic, it does have a fantastic story to invoice Ian.
00:26:35
Jo
So I'm not gonna lie.
00:26:37
Iain
Here we go.
00:26:38
Jo

Raising Funds through Player Sales

00:27:09
Iain
Ladies.
00:27:09
Global Sports Podcast Network
what a voice what a man what a broadcaster unbelievable what a guy we're done um yeah what a legend what a legend um so again like i said this is going to overrun but hey how lucky are you guys listening um
00:27:15
Iain
oh
00:27:16
Jo
He's some boy.
00:27:17
Iain
What can you do?
00:27:24
Iain
To write, give me a stay special.
00:27:27
Global Sports Podcast Network
ah Exactly. we will and We're going to talk about who players we will try and cash in now. So so far, we've mentioned Longstaff, Miggy, and Ian even mentioned potentially the Greek keeper, Ody. I know he said he would keep him, but that is somebody we could cash in on.
00:27:43
Global Sports Podcast Network
He's a Greek, Greek goalkeeper. He's an international. Could we get a bit of money for him? I know he's just signed, but he's not going to play his third choice behind Dubravka. Could we look the cash in on him? So, um, let's see who you guys would be interested in cashing in on who's in the squad at the moment. And nobody's off-limits here, by the way, this does not have to be the, you know, the players who's contractors. Who do you think you could get a little bit of money for at the minute? Um, we'll go Ian first cause he's just like I say, what a guy.
00:28:10
Iain
but I am. I totally understand, right? I'm not so advocating this. I don't want it to happen, but I totally understand. If there's some stupid money offered and it's easy goes or it's Bruno that goes because that would allow us to completely rebuild the team. Getting 100 plus million quitting. I'm not advocating that at all. I think we don't need to do that. We've got plenty of other people in the squad who are expendable for want of a better word.
00:28:42
Iain
I've already mentioned Harvey Barnes.
00:28:45
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yep.
00:28:46
Iain
I think Harvey Barnes is an absolutely fantastic backup left-winger but do we really need 40 million quid's worth of backup left-winger when Joe, when Joe, li when Joe Linton could cover there and we've got young lads, we've got some young lads in the under-23s who play very well on the left.
00:28:54
Global Sports Podcast Network
I agree. It's a great friendship, but you could get so many things.
00:29:00
Global Sports Podcast Network
but
00:29:06
Iain
I think that's the washing machine man Senussi I want to see a bit more of him. He's a left-winger. So yeah, I think Harvey Barnes has set us to requirements. Let's get some cash in for him. He might even have put his price up a little bit with inflation. Not to be yeah too unsentimental, but come on, we've got him for now. Lloyd Kelly must be worth 10 or 12 million of somebody's money and he ain't going to get into playing the center half once Botman's back and we bought another center half. So I think Lloyd Kelly should be up. should be up
00:29:39
Iain
um And one of the, who was the other one I'm thinking of? Long staff, but I'll let you deal with long staff. If there's actually a long staff, he might be a 25, 30 million, which I think converts into us being able to spend a hundred to 120 million in the transfer amount.
00:29:46
Global Sports Podcast Network
yeah
00:29:55
Global Sports Podcast Network
100% profit because he's a he's a local island well 250% profit technically but yeah Joe
00:29:58
Jo
Yeah.
00:30:00
Iain
Yeah.
00:30:05
Jo
um Longstaff was going to be an obvious one. I know we've said Miggie but I think any any of us would easily sell Miggie at this point but we've been wanting to sell him for quite a while bless him. He's done his job for us, he's love use in my eyes he's kind of done and gone. Longstaff to a degree as well because Longstaff again has done everything he can do for the club now but he's still got a lot to offer. I've got nothing against Longstaff but we've got a lot more, we've got a lot better than him and now haven't we and he needs to understand, he will understand that he's down the pecking order as a result and it'll only be injuries realistically that'll keep him in any sort of getting any sort of minutes now in the team but yeah get some money out of him if we can
00:30:44
Jo
It would be interesting to see if we even give him a one year extension and try it sell him in the summer and get some money that way. I don't know. Obviously, again, I'm just kind of clutching here a a few things, but I would sell long stuff. Bonds was going to be one I mentioned because we've talked about this so many times about bonds that if we could get the money back or like Ian said, potentially more because you've got to remember as much as he hasn't been brilliant or he's not getting the minutes or whatever like this, we do know.
00:31:07
Global Sports Podcast Network
Still got five goals or something.
00:31:09
Jo
Exactly that so he he does contribute a lot when he's on the pitch and he's just not getting on the pitch and like you said Do we really need a 40 million pound man sitting on the wing when we do have plenty of other options on the left?
00:31:20
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:31:20
Jo
So Barnes I think is an obvious one and about honesty and I love your shout of Kelly, especially after the conversation We've just had about like craft and stuff like that being and backups in the central kind of position Do we really need Kelly especially if we've got to want to free that's just pure profit, isn't it?
00:31:35
Jo
um gets him off the wage bill as well I don't know what he gets paid by the way I haven't checked anything like that but never is it?
00:31:39
Global Sports Podcast Network
Apparently it's a hundred a week, but I'll be amazed if that's true.
00:31:43
Iain
The alternative to that, of course, is that, bearing in mind his age and the fantastic form he's in at the minute, is that you could sell Dan Byrne now for the most you'd ever get for him.
00:31:54
Global Sports Podcast Network
Well, I was going to come out with, I was going to reply to you guys talking about Kelly.
00:31:54
Jo
no
00:31:55
Jo
ah know but
00:31:57
Global Sports Podcast Network
I think how we signed Kelly is the next Dan burn. He can play left back. He's tall for a left back. He can play center half. He's left footed, relatively good on the ball. We haven't seen the best of him yet.
00:32:08
Global Sports Podcast Network
I think we're giving up on Kelly a little bit too early and I think it could age like milk because
00:32:12
Jo
Mhm.
00:32:13
Global Sports Podcast Network
he could have the next two games in my semi-final and taught them away and look brilliant. So, I don't want to hold off on Kelly. I agree with kind of what you're saying, but it's too early for me.
00:32:20
Jo
Yeah.
00:32:22
Global Sports Podcast Network
And I think he's the natural replacement as a squad player, left-back slash left-center-half for Dan Byrne, because exactly like Ian just said, he's age. and We love Dan Byrne, of course we do.
00:32:33
Global Sports Podcast Network
He's been amazing this season, but we have to be more brutal. We should have cashed in on Miggy after that season when we finished fourth, because we would have got a nice amount of money for him. Burns in form, I agree, and is now the time to think, well, look, he's a fantastic player. Do you want to take him off our hands for blah, blah, blah? and I think that's what we need to do a little bit more. And I also agree with Harvey Barnes. I was saying, I remember we did a practice pod, which nobody got to hear, might be released at some point, um about who we would keep and sell in the Newcastle current squad when we were practicing to get really good for the listeners.
00:33:07
Global Sports Podcast Network
um And I said Barnes wasn't wasn't for me and non-negotiable like we had Bruno Gordon and I think somebody else put Barnes and then I think now I would get the money back if I could but he is a great finisher just for me exactly like you have said Senussi I want to see more of we've got Joe Willick I quite like him as a left winger when Joe Linton's left side of midfield because for him to interlink and switch really well and we've obviously got Gordon and
00:33:30
Jo
Really.
00:33:32
Global Sports Podcast Network
and Jordan can do a job there. So there's four people who can play a left wing.
00:33:35
Jo
No.
00:33:36
Global Sports Podcast Network
I mean, Isaac could probably do a job out there. If you're going to sign someone like Guy Gareche and make a statement, or you're going to sign a striker, you could move Isaac out wide. I don't think that's necessarily a long-term fix, but for your game, it would it would be suffice.
00:33:48
Global Sports Podcast Network
So yeah, I think Barnes could be one we get a little bit of money on.
00:33:52
Iain
We've also forgotten, and he's got to go, but I think it's his wages that stop him from being attractive to anyone. Matt Target. I mean, what is Matt Target doing?
00:34:00
Global Sports Podcast Network
yeah
00:34:02
Global Sports Podcast Network
I agree.
00:34:02
Iain
I know we saw him come on ah right back against Aston Villa, but I think that was a bit of an emergency because Trippie had got hurt.
00:34:04
Jo
Yeah.
00:34:11
Iain
and Yeah, but Matt Target is definitely surplus to the squad requirements.
00:34:17
Global Sports Podcast Network
I agree. I agree. Right.
00:34:17
Jo
and

Fun Quiz & Episode Conclusion

00:34:20
Global Sports Podcast Network
Okey doke. That is wonderful. We're not going to end it though. You guys are going to get a little bit extra time. We're going to go through a tiny little quiz based around Newcastle United transfer. So I'm just going to give you two players and you guys have to pick who went for more or who did we sign for more money.
00:34:36
Global Sports Podcast Network
that's what you need to go off okay now what i'm looking at here it's not euros but i'm looking at it thinking well it might be euros because that seems unbelievable um so if some of these are wrong feel free to comment and tell us i'm talking rubbish but it's just off the internet blame me internet right we'll start with i think is probably an easy one but you'll be amazed how close it is i think even more it is a ridiculous amount of time apart who did we buy for more money
00:35:06
Global Sports Podcast Network
Alan Shearer or Alan St. Maximan?
00:35:10
Iain
o
00:35:11
Jo
Maxie.
00:35:12
Global Sports Podcast Network
You think we bought Maxi for more money?
00:35:14
Iain
Yeah, I think we bought or hang on a minute though. What do we pay for Maxie?
00:35:19
Jo
Maxie was more than 15 million.
00:35:20
Iain
Alan was 15 million, wasn't he?
00:35:22
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yep.
00:35:23
Iain
A world record fee.
00:35:23
Jo
Maxie was more than 15, wasn't he? I thought he was about 18 or something.
00:35:25
Iain
I don't know. I thought 18, but then I had another thinker thought it that might have been after all of the stuff. If we'd won this and won that, Maxie might be 14 and a half.
00:35:34
Jo
I've answered now. I'm going to have to go Maxie.
00:35:38
Global Sports Podcast Network
It goes off what we paid and the correct answer is we paid on some maximum 16.2 million.
00:35:43
Iain
Yeah.
00:35:45
Global Sports Podcast Network
I don't know what add-ons that included might have been qualifying for a championship. Ian, that might have got a little bit extra money on top of maxi.
00:35:49
Iain
Yeah.
00:35:51
Global Sports Podcast Network
It was 40 million, but we ended up paying 16.2. We paid 15. So we actually bought Alan some maximum for more money. But I mean, look at the time apart. It's not much in it.
00:36:00
Jo
yeah world record can't remember what we paid for target at all so i'm gonna guess a sule but i'm completely guessing i've got no idea what paid for target oh my goodness 12 springs to mine but i wouldn't have
00:36:01
Global Sports Podcast Network
And she was a record breaking transfer. That's what Joe wanted to do. Five of these. Um, next one. Matt Target or William Asula?
00:36:12
Global Sports Podcast Network
Who did we sign for more money?
00:36:20
Iain
I think it is a Sula because I think target was 12 and a Sula was 15.
00:36:27
Global Sports Podcast Network
Correct. It was William Osula. My target was 13 million and Osula was 15 million. So 2 million pound more for Osula. This one almost blows my mind because I'm sure we signed him in the same window. John Joe Shelby or Andros Townsend.
00:36:28
Jo
Yes, you are.
00:36:49
Global Sports Podcast Network
There's 300,000 pound according to this.
00:36:50
Jo
I have no... What?
00:36:52
Global Sports Podcast Network
I'm sure we signed them. we I'm sure it was the same window, which it was to save us from our litigation because Ashley was panicking. So we signed Townsend and Shelby.
00:36:59
Jo
Townsend.
00:37:02
Global Sports Podcast Network
Joe's going Townsend.
00:37:02
Jo
I have no idea. That's a pure guess.
00:37:04
Global Sports Podcast Network
Who do you think it is? It is 300,000 in between.
00:37:06
Iain
a tell tof What you call them Townsend's about. Townsend we sold for 12 I think. I will go Shelby just to be different to try and get an equalizer.
00:37:21
Global Sports Podcast Network
You've got the equalizer, bang on, Andros Townsend was $14 million and John Joe Shelby was $14.3 million is what we ended up paying before.
00:37:22
Jo
Well done.
00:37:28
Jo
I can't remember us paying that much.
00:37:29
Global Sports Podcast Network
the one says I'm assuming the Shelby one went to more because there was a promotional clause or something in there, or return to a Premier League clause, but yeah, Shelby went and paid more money for overall.
00:37:35
Jo
Yeah. 14.3.
00:37:41
Global Sports Podcast Network
um Speaking of similar transfer windows and similar eras before we mixed up the eras for the last one,
00:37:41
Jo
That's mad.
00:37:48
Global Sports Podcast Network
Obafemi Martins or Damien Duff. Both signed in 2006. One, personally, I love Obafemi Martins. I couldn't tell you why, I just love him.
00:37:56
Jo
Yeah.
00:37:57
Global Sports Podcast Network
um And we have a Damien Duff who I said at the time wasn't as good as what everybody thought he was.
00:38:02
Jo
no yeah he was great yeah
00:38:02
Iain
My answer for why you love over fairy mountains is that every time he scored, he would do a somersault. I mean, that's why.
00:38:09
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, it's got to be up there. That and he was so fast. He was just rapid. I loved how fast he was.
00:38:14
Iain
It wasn't just a one somersault, it would be a double or it would be a somersault and a ten.
00:38:14
Global Sports Podcast Network
i just Oh, he's one of them, he's one of them players where I just, I loved, and I could never defend him and see he was a fantastic player for Newcastle, he's not the sum of the straightest we've had in our history, he gets nowhere near, but I just love him, so I thought I'd include him in a quiz in case he's ever listening.
00:38:19
Iain
Oh, what a player.
00:38:33
Jo
I used to think I was hilarious when we had him.
00:38:33
Global Sports Podcast Network
but yeah
00:38:35
Jo
I obviously blatantly wasn't because it was just my awesome cracker standard. But every time he scored, I used to scream, it's Oba baby instead of it's Oba baby.
00:38:41
Global Sports Podcast Network
Oh my God, that's horrendous.
00:38:42
Jo
As if he'd like won the match. I know, but you know, awesome crack as I've just admitted.
00:38:46
Iain
the
00:38:46
Global Sports Podcast Network
Martin's a duff, who went for more?
00:38:48
Jo
Right. I think it should be Oba, but I think it's tough.
00:38:49
Global Sports Podcast Network
Who did we sign for more, sorry?
00:38:51
Iain
joan Joanne talking about her awesome crack again, my God.
00:38:55
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, Jesus. This isn't my podcast.
00:38:57
Jo
It's undeniably. and
00:38:58
Global Sports Podcast Network
Oh, my face, Joe.
00:39:00
Jo
It's undeniable. Right. I think it should be over, but I think it's tough.
00:39:09
Global Sports Podcast Network
Right, so you're going Joe's going duff.
00:39:09
Jo
So that's my answer.
00:39:12
Iain
What are you doing?
00:39:12
Jo
I'm going to have to because I think it should be over, but I think it's a trick question.
00:39:14
Iain
And you're going deaf. So, well, look, let's say it would be easy for me just to say Duff as well, and then we'd have a draw, wouldn't we?
00:39:16
Jo
I think it's a trick question.
00:39:22
Iain
But I won't. I'll say Ober, so there's a winner.
00:39:23
Jo
There's one more.
00:39:25
Global Sports Podcast Network
There is one more after this.
00:39:25
Jo
There's one more.
00:39:26
Iain
Is it?
00:39:26
Jo
There's one more.
00:39:27
Iain
Oh, I thought you said there was five.
00:39:28
Jo
That could be the tiebreaker.
00:39:31
Iain
I'll go over anyway.
00:39:33
Global Sports Podcast Network
You bang on, Ian. Damien Duff, $14 million overall paid in over-family Martins.
00:39:35
Jo
She was stuck with the original.
00:39:38
Global Sports Podcast Network
We ended up paying $14.5 after all the add-ons and all that stuff. So, yeah, $2.1.
00:39:43
Jo
So that was right, technically.
00:39:44
Global Sports Podcast Network
Ian, this is the last one. If you get it right, we can have a we can have a tie break. I am prepared. and Two different eras.
00:39:50
Iain
can i Can I just say that if Joanne gets this and makes it 3-3, this scoring has been exactly the same as the Newcastle Liverpool goals in that three-wheel draw.
00:40:03
Jo
It has.
00:40:03
Iain
And Joanne is Newcastle. I'm a bin dipper.
00:40:07
Global Sports Podcast Network
fifth Fair We'll move on from binderboards rapidly.
00:40:07
Jo
Aw.
00:40:11
Jo
Thanks for not calling me a bindibit.
00:40:12
Global Sports Podcast Network
um This one, two completely different eras, but hey, why not? Who did we sign for more money or spend more money on overall eventually? Lauren Robert or Dwight Gail.
00:40:23
Global Sports Podcast Network
Robert signed in 2001.
00:40:24
Jo
and
00:40:25
Global Sports Podcast Network
Gail signed in 2016 after we were relegated.
00:40:30
Jo
Rubber. Rubber.
00:40:33
Global Sports Podcast Network
Joe's gone, Robert.
00:40:34
Jo
Cause I love him too much to not pick him.
00:40:34
Iain
I know I think Gail was expensive when we got relegated.
00:40:34
Global Sports Podcast Network
Ian.
00:40:40
Jo
Yeah, I think I've got it wrong.
00:40:40
Iain
I'm going how e Howard Gail. I'm going Dwight Gail.
00:40:43
Jo
No, I think I've got it
00:40:44
Global Sports Podcast Network
I was going to say Howard Gale is a completely wrong era.
00:40:47
Jo
wrong.
00:40:48
Global Sports Podcast Network
It is actually Long Robert overall. So Dwight Gale was £12 million pounds overall, which is very expensive for a championship club. But Long Robert, we ended up spending £12.8 million on after whatever add-ons it was for Champions League.
00:41:02
Jo
Rightly so. Rightly so.
00:41:04
Global Sports Podcast Network
Since the tie, we'll do one more. Why not? Who do we sign more?
00:41:09
Iain
Although follow fishly officially, it's a draw.
00:41:12
Global Sports Podcast Network
Oh, we just end as it as a girl.
00:41:13
Jo
It is. This is like a bonus point. Yeah.
00:41:15
Global Sports Podcast Network
Nah, we have to have a winner. Bugger it. Who do you mean, time for more money? Papi Sisay or Nick Pope.
00:41:23
Jo
Ooh.
00:41:24
Global Sports Podcast Network
It's a good one, innit?
00:41:25
Iain
Oh. I'm going to Papis.
00:41:27
Global Sports Podcast Network
There's 800,000 pound in it.
00:41:30
Iain
Yeah, I'm going to Papis.
00:41:31
Jo
This what?
00:41:32
Iain
800,000.
00:41:32
Global Sports Podcast Network
800,000 pound difference.
00:41:34
Jo
What are you picking?
00:41:36
Iain
but If I'm going to pick CSA, because Dick pokes 10 million, isn't it?
00:41:40
Global Sports Podcast Network
Ian gets to go first, so yeah, Sisay.
00:41:41
Iain
I'm sure.
00:41:42
Jo
yeah i know well i've got to pick pulp haven't i i've got no choice i was gonna pick cc i'm not gonna lie yeah yeah i would have picked cc it was a Otherwise, Ian's right.
00:41:45
Iain
I thought.
00:41:47
Global Sports Podcast Network
Gun Pope. Pope was 10 million. Ian was bang on, he was 10 million. And CCA, we ended up spending 10.8 million, which is rounded up to 11. So yeah, 10.8 million. Well, class is a draw, that's a loser mentality, but really Ian won. Really Ian won.
00:42:05
Jo
And as Liverpool, he gets, I know, but then you you get to win 4-3 and we don't like any of that.
00:42:05
Iain
I'm on it.
00:42:09
Global Sports Podcast Network
Liverpool do beat us 4-3.
00:42:09
Jo
That's too, that's too awful.
00:42:10
Iain
Well, I've watched too many Liverpool.
00:42:11
Jo
You don't need any more 4-3s.
00:42:14
Global Sports Podcast Network
It's well known.
00:42:14
Iain
They do this for three regularly.
00:42:14
Jo
They do. That's the problem.
00:42:17
Global Sports Podcast Network
mean Anyway, thank you very much. It has been a bit of an extended episode, so we'll just call it a New Year's special. I mean, I don't offer too much editing, so that's brilliant. Anyway, we hope all of our listeners have a fantastic New Year.
00:42:28
Global Sports Podcast Network
We hope 2025 is the season of the year we return to the Champions League. Dare I say it, now that we're sat fifth in the coefficient spots look like we're going to England, so fifth would be enough.
00:42:35
Jo
Yeah!
00:42:38
Jo
Mm-hmm.
00:42:39
Global Sports Podcast Network
But as Ian and Joe said at the very start, we should be aiming high than that, or we could even finish high than that. Anyway, have a great New Year. You'll hear from us tomorrow because we are a daily podcast with Daily Newcastle Podcast. Happy New Year.
00:42:55
Jo
Happy New Year!
