Okay, what's the prediction? What's the prediction? we Are we gonna end up with another crazy poly B crisis? When I started in this trade, most of it was copper.

I remember soldering for days. um That said, Poly B was going to be the savior of labor in the plumbing industry. And I easily installed million a million feet of Poly B. And then um when I started doing hydronics, I probably installed 3 million feet of Kytec.

and still service many systems that I installed 20, 25 years ago that are full of Kytec. And as you know, that is now banned and um you're unable to buy it and service it. And so it becomes really difficult.

And as I sort of dug into this PEXA problem, um they say, I mean, off the shelf, it's a 50 year lifespan, great. But the things that,
00:01:02
Baker Plbg
ah diminish that significantly is the use of chlorine um as a disinfectant becomes brittle and crack from the inside. They have this rating called ORP oxidation reduction potential in anything over 800 millivolts.
00:01:20
Baker Plbg
That's how they measure it with millivolts electricity is often caused by high chlorine levels. Guess what? The average, um,
00:01:32
Baker Plbg
ORP of tap water is. Throughout North America, it's 400. ah some in Some states claim as high as 800, which is crazy to me. Obviously, temperature is over 140 and pressure is over 150.

they it will reduce their the lifespan of that PEXA from 50 years to 8 to 10 years, which is incredibly significant.

I do see a lot. I'm not going to, maybe I'll, I'm just gonna try and keep it short, but I see a lot of those softer installs in Arizona and California and the Southern states. Is that because of the high chlorine content? Maybe somebody can let me know. I don't know. um But,
00:02:21
Baker Plbg
every every big city uses chlorine to disinfect their water and their tap water supply which it's going into new housing combined with the degradation of that pipe and the leaching of that pipe

I think that's bad news. I think that's bad news for all of us. So, or maybe it's good news because we're gonna have to change everything from PEXA to copper or whatever new stupid thing that every engineer will back and say is good, which has happened with PolyB and Kytec. So, you know, you can no longer trust the science.
