Introduction to Plumbing and Health

00:00:00
Baker Plbg
Who would have thought? Everybody knows that the motto of the plumbing world is that we protect the health of the nation. And maybe we're in fact undermining the health of the nation by the products that we use to install our water distribution systems. Everybody knows the benefits of copper.
00:00:17
Baker Plbg
um I'm going to go down that road at all. it It is an absolutely healing um um element. and should incorporate that into your routines, whether you drink out of copper cups or so on and so forth.

The Dangers of PEX Pipes

00:00:32
Baker Plbg
ah I was shocked to learn that PEX A, PEX B, and PEX C coppers, or PEX pipes, um all leach toxic chemicals into our water distribution systems to the point of, um and I'm just going give you the graph that I pulled off the government, um, um,
00:00:55
Baker Plbg
report that um the the the levels coming into the system are about 300 per liter. per leader um On PEX-A pipe, which is the most, leeches the most, it's 2,000 per liter of these toxic chemicals. On cold PEX pipe, it's about 1,600. And that this has been taken over a five-year period.

It does ah slowly diminish diminish, that the leaching stops ever after five years, but newly installed pipes are by far the worst.

Issues with CPVC Pipes

00:01:33
Baker Plbg
And what's even what's even worse,
00:01:38
Baker Plbg
is CPVC. They know for a fact that on high temperature CPVC lines, it leaches carcinogens like chloroform, acetone, and other highly aggressive VOCs, volatile organic compounds. That, my friends, is horrific.

Baker Plbg
And um they have, the study that I'm looking at here from the government, ah and and i and NIH, government web report, says that PEX-A is, like I say, the worst offender, and it's worse on um on high temperature and stagnant lines. so if you And it takes, it's stagnant, they mean two hours. So if the water sits in the pipe for over two hours, according to this report, it's stagnant, which is
00:02:39
Baker Plbg
Horrifying.

Advocating for Copper Pipes

00:02:40
Baker Plbg
Anyway, that is an upsell for you guys to upgrade your pipe, to upgrade your systems to copper, um and make some more money.
00:02:51

And particularly with the press systems we have now, it's even more convenient. As usual, those are my thoughts, not yours. Protect the health of the nation. Switch to copper pipes.
