00:00:24
Todd
Hey, last weekend was the Drake Relays, wasn't it?
00:00:28
Talkin2Todd
It was, yes.
00:00:29
Todd
did you Did you guys go this year?
00:00:32
Talkin2Todd
ay Well, i went I went a little bit. I was in Washington, D.C. for most of relays, but managed to fly in on Saturday and make it in time for Saturday afternoon races.
00:00:45
Talkin2Todd
So yes, yes, we went.
00:00:46
Todd
Oh, perfect. Okay, great. Quick question for you. Were your seats in Zone 1, Zone 2, Zone 3, Zone 4, Front 1, Zone 1, Front 2, Zone 1, or did you get tickets right there in the hospitality section?
00:00:59
Talkin2Todd
Actually, we got hospitality tickets.
00:01:03
Todd
Seriously, we got to talk about this before we do the cold open. Okay. Ooh.
00:01:06
Talkin2Todd
We are, if you didn't know, we're medallion level members of the Baton Club and sponsors of the Drake Relays.
00:01:19
Talkin2Todd
At that point, we get hospitality passes so that we can go to the tent up top and eat and drink. and then return back to our seats and watch the races.
00:01:32
Talkin2Todd
So we we got hospitality passes. Yes. Yeah. As a part of that, Amy and I sponsor two races.
00:01:44
Talkin2Todd
Actually, two two events.
00:01:44
Todd
Really?
00:01:46
Talkin2Todd
one One race and one field event. Yes. Yeah. This year, we were the sponsor of the High School Girls 400 Meter Dash.
00:02:00
Todd
Brought to you by Dwayne and Amy Johnson.
00:02:03
Talkin2Todd
That's right. As well as the men's invitational hammer throw.
00:02:13
Todd
That explains why when I saw the pictures and the hammer throw away out in the field, there's just a big picture of my face.
00:02:18
Talkin2Todd
it's
00:02:19
Todd
Yeah, just throw it. Just just try to hit it. Just throw.
00:02:21
Talkin2Todd
Throw it throw it at that. trust trust me, it's a bit.
00:02:23
Todd
Yeah.
00:02:24
Talkin2Todd
work
00:02:24
Todd
It's it'll be funny. It'll be funny. OK. OK. So. OK. But OK. First of all, by the way, the we can go up to the top and we can have food and drink and then go back down our seats.
00:02:36
Talkin2Todd
Yes.
00:02:36
Todd
It also sounds very much like you also have the hospitality at a NASCAR race. But, you know, whatever. OK. So. But OK. So you have the hospitality seats. I'm also what. So for that, you guys had to pay what? One one hundred and fifty hundred and eighty five dollars for parking.
00:02:51
Talkin2Todd
Parking was included and it was right next to the stadium. It was the best perk.
00:02:56
Todd
Okay. All right. Other than Kendrick Perkins. Anyway, sorry. Okay, but I'm guessing that, okay, that sounds much better than what do you have to do. yeah Otherwise, you would have to what take the $150 train from downtown to campus.
00:03:08
Talkin2Todd
No trains. No trains in Des Moines, A. And two, that wouldn't really fly.
00:03:14
Todd
Yeah, yeah.
00:03:16
Talkin2Todd
You know, I think you may have the relays confused with another event.
00:03:21
Todd
Look, I'm just saying, based off of all of our coverage over the past months, if you aren't in for three, at least three grand each, how do you even know that you were at a big sporting event?
00:03:35
Talkin2Todd
Oh, we're at a big event.
00:03:37
Todd
Okay, how do you know that?
00:03:39
Talkin2Todd
Do any of these World Cup matches crown a beautiful bulldog?
00:03:44
Todd
For the right price, they would. But so, okay, so at the Drake Relays, how much does that cost?
00:03:50
Talkin2Todd
It's priceless and her name is Flora.

Podcast Introduction

00:04:17
Talkin2Todd
Hi, toddlers. Welcome to Talking to Todd, weekly podcast with Dwayne Johnson and Todd Prenz, where failure is always an option. Thanks for joining us. Hey, Todd.
00:04:28
Todd
Hey, how's it going?
00:04:29
Talkin2Todd
Pretty good. Pretty good. How are you?
00:04:32
Todd
Not too bad, not too bad. Still wrapping my head around sponsoring like a race. Like I'm like, okay, like if you if you did like the four by one, like do you get your like your name on the baton that they have to use? Or, you know, like if it was like it was like the 400 hurdles, like like your name and picture is on every hurdle. Like, you know, I'm just I'm thinking about that. Yeah.
00:04:54
Talkin2Todd
i I wanted to sponsor the steeplechase because it's most like cross country.
00:04:58
Todd
Yeah.
00:05:00
Talkin2Todd
Somebody else got that. We're going to we're gonna have to be in for a while before steeplechase comes back up.
00:05:07
Todd
You know how these race sponsorships are. You got it's it's who you know. You got to know somebody in order to get the sponsorship.
00:05:13
Talkin2Todd
Yeah, and we know Carolyn. By the way, Flora, this year's beautiful bulldog, from iowa Falls.
00:05:19
Todd
Yes.
00:05:22
Todd
Really?
00:05:23
Talkin2Todd
Yeah.
00:05:24
Todd
Okay. Okay.
00:05:27
Todd
I was going to say anybody we know, but not the not the dog, the owner. However, the problem is, after this much time, I know nobody, and I'm assuming you still know everybody. So it averages out to, do we know anybody?
00:05:42
Talkin2Todd
No, we don't.
00:05:43
Todd
Okay.
00:05:44
Talkin2Todd
I know a few people and you know less than that.
00:05:52
Todd
Hey, Larry. Hey, Sandy. Hey, Dad. Well, okay.

Sponsorship Shenanigans

00:05:56
Talkin2Todd
Okay.
00:05:57
Todd
that's that's that's that That's about it.
00:06:00
Todd
So anyway. All right.
00:06:05
Talkin2Todd
You might know a few more than that, but in terms of people that you talk to on a semi-regular basis, that's Yeah.
00:06:12
Todd
Yeah, that's about it. that's it's about it
00:06:17
Talkin2Todd
Let's see. Feedback, follow-up, and updates. We have, oh, we have we have feedback from Lisa.
00:06:22
Todd
Yeah, so last week, Dwayne guessed the number was, guess how much it costs to make the shirt that sells for the 105 pounds or whatever. You guessed like 16 pounds, I think.
00:06:38
Todd
In the car, Lisa goes, nine pounds. Actual answer, eight pound 50.
00:06:45
Todd
she says nine pounds. I said, hold on. And then she turns to me and she goes, I am really good at this game.
00:06:54
Todd
Yeah.
00:06:55
Talkin2Todd
Bell for Lisa.
00:06:56
Todd
Which, which here's the thing. If, if Lisa was playing this, we wouldn't be playing this for multiple years because, guess the number you guessed it. Huh? That's not much of a game.
00:07:07
Todd
Yeah.
00:07:07
Talkin2Todd
this isn't This isn't any fun. Why do we keep doing this?
00:07:09
Todd
definite Yeah, yeah this is this is not America's favorite game. Lisa gets within the margin of error on any number. Like, that's a different game. It's a different game. So, yeah.
00:07:22
Todd
Who else did we have feedback from?
00:07:23
Talkin2Todd
we got We got an email from Jesse Taylor, Chair Professor Policymaker at the Taylor Center for Technology Policy, circa clerk Clark County, Ruby Valley.
00:07:32
Todd
Oh, we did. i mean, technically...
00:07:38
Todd
yeah Well, we
00:07:44
Talkin2Todd
Could you hear the cuckoos?
00:07:46
Talkin2Todd
Oh, great. Can you hear me?
00:07:48
Todd
yes.
00:07:49
Talkin2Todd
Okay, well, that's better than nothing. Okay, so i guess we're doing it this way this time. Fantastic.
00:07:58
Todd
Technically, we got an email from Jesse a few weeks ago.
00:08:05
Talkin2Todd
True.
00:08:07
Todd
That we were not aware of.
00:08:07
Talkin2Todd
Yeah. And then yesterday we got a follow-up email. Hey, Dwayne and Todd, did you guys get the sponsorship? I have a feeling this may have went to the junk mail folder. I hope you both are well.
00:08:21
Talkin2Todd
Best, Jesse. Back on March 30th, we got, Dear very senior fellow Dwayne and visiting scholar Todd, I hope this message finds you both well. I have heard on occasion through the pod that the center is in arrears for our sponsorship of Todd's Tech Corner.
00:08:42
Todd
what would What would give you that idea?
00:08:42
Talkin2Todd
Please
00:08:47
Talkin2Todd
please see sponsorship below to make up for our oversight. The legal eagles also wanted to caution, watch out for birds. If birds cause a problem at future basketball games while Dwayne is doing his technical corner, they have offered to fly down and handle the situation expertly.
00:09:06
Talkin2Todd
Expertly? Got the emphasis on the wrong syllable there. Also, the interns want to know when Todd's coming back from vacation?
00:09:20
Todd
and he's been gone a while
00:09:22
Talkin2Todd
but I thought it really funny.
00:09:30
Talkin2Todd
Excelsior, Dr. Jesse Taylor, et cetera, et cetera, et cetera.
00:09:35
Talkin2Todd
After which I responded.
00:09:40
Talkin2Todd
Subject, a most solemn proclamation of contrition and reinvestiture. To the most honorable Chair Taylor, Pray receive herewith our most abject and prostrate apologies for the egregious failure on the part of this establishment to duly acknowledge your most generous and municipal sponsorship contribution to the organization known throughout the civilized world as talking to Todd, civilized spelled with the English spelling.
00:10:10
Todd
With the U.
00:10:10
Talkin2Todd
As you, yes.
00:10:14
Talkin2Todd
As your honor did most astutely perceive, the aforementioned correspondence had been cast into the spammatorial depths of our electronic inboxes, a dark and treacherous abyss from which few communications do return, there to languish in obscurity most undeserved.
00:10:32
Talkin2Todd
Let it henceforth be known to all persons of quality and discernment that the Taylor Center is, by virtue of this very proclamation, restored and reinvested to the in the most exalted order of platinum sponsorship of Talking to Todd.
00:10:45
Talkin2Todd
Upon your honor, we do confer all rights, privileges, and dignities thereunto appertaining, including admission into the full fellowship of the T2T family. with all attendant honors, obligations, and ESSA access to refreshments that such station doth confer.
00:11:03
Talkin2Todd
We do earnestly beseech your honor to keep the parking spaces and the coffee nook in a state of warmth and readiness at the center against our imminent arrival.

AI Tools and Content Creation

00:11:12
Talkin2Todd
I remain, as ever, your most obedient servant and very senior fellow, d Johnson Esquire, co-host and conductor of 98% of the labor hereabouts.
00:11:26
Todd
Wait, wait, let me go get my fiddle. And can we do that again from the top?
00:11:34
Todd
Ken Burns, Ken Burns is going, I got to be honest, that that was a lot. That may have been too much. That went on a while.
00:11:44
Talkin2Todd
i drafted the first version of that, and then I sent it over to Claude to zhuzh it up a bit.
00:11:53
Talkin2Todd
I could have had Claude zhuzh it down just a tad.
00:11:58
Todd
And by Claude, do you mean Claude AI or did you just get a French intern to make up for Kevin?
00:12:03
Talkin2Todd
it
00:12:04
Todd
Claude, oui.
00:12:07
Talkin2Todd
Kevin, you're being replaced.
00:12:11
Todd
Is Kevin even still here? don't know. Anyway.
00:12:14
Talkin2Todd
Thank you, Jesse.
00:12:16
Todd
Yes, thank you, Jesse. Appreciate the but i appreciate the sponsorship that was That was very nice.
00:12:21
Talkin2Todd
even though we're not doing your segment this week.
00:12:24
Todd
no No, we are not doing the Todd's Tech Corner brought to us by the Taylor Center for Technology Policy. That will not be occurring this week.
00:12:34
Todd
No.
00:12:34
Talkin2Todd
The follow-up that I had was that I tried to do this on ChatGPT. ChatGPT is not working for me. i just got to tell you, the results that I've been getting out of ChatGPT, I've not been satisfied with.
00:12:43
Todd
Yeah.
00:12:48
Talkin2Todd
But I was very pleased with that result out Claude.
00:12:52
Todd
have in enjoying, Hey, look, so this is, this is the inherent problem though, with the AI thing, which is like every week there's the email chat GPT is great.
00:12:54
Talkin2Todd
Hey.
00:13:11
Todd
Yeah.

Oakland Airport Naming Drama

00:13:12
Talkin2Todd
Keep it fresh.
00:13:12
Todd
Anyway.
00:13:15
Todd
Yeah. I had a bit of follow up. So a little while ago, maybe 2024, the Oakland International Airport, which was seeing passenger volumes drop, decided to change their name to try to bring in more passengers.
00:13:33
Todd
So they changed their name from Oakland International Airport to San Francisco Bay, Oakland International Airport. Do you remember us covering that?
00:13:41
Talkin2Todd
I do, yes.
00:13:42
Todd
Yes. Yes.
00:13:43
Talkin2Todd
Because the actual SFO, San Francisco Airport, isn't in San Francisco either.
00:13:48
Todd
Yeah. Yeah. San Francisco Airport was pissed off that Oakland stole the San Francisco name because they're not San Francisco. And yet we also discover that SFO also not San Francisco.
00:14:03
Todd
So as the San Francisco Standard points out yesterday, I believe, the the effort to draw more, renaming the airport to draw in more people largely failed while having the secondary impact of annoying San Francisco leaders who swiftly sued, arguing that the name would confuse travelers.
00:14:23
Todd
Sure, i guess. So in 2025,
00:14:28
Todd
the Oakland Port Authority so renamed it again and swapped them around and now and then renamed it to Oakland, San Francisco Bay Airport. No hyphen.
00:14:39
Talkin2Todd
Oh.
00:14:40
Todd
No, it's just Oakland, San Francisco Bay Airport. Like, oh, OK. So that happened in 2025. Again, from the standard, San Francisco didn't like that either, but they entered into mediation in December, and as of this week, they have now settled.
00:14:58
Todd
So San Francisco has agreed that the air the Oakland Airport can continue calling themselves Oakland-San Francisco Bay Airport as long as, number one, Oakland always appears before San Francisco in all materials,
00:15:15
Todd
don't don't hide Oakland, don't hide the Oakland. and And this part seems wild. And the airport does not add the letters SF to its code OAK, which is confusing because that's not how those airport codes work, right?
00:15:32
Todd
They're assigned and they're three letters long. Like if you got a ticket printed out and you're going you say, hey, I'm going to OAKSF, I don't, where is that? Like,
00:15:40
Talkin2Todd
With the, that's not, yeah, that doesn't work.
00:15:42
Todd
that's That is not a thing. I can tell you this, my luggage isn't going to make it. Nobody knows where that is. So anyway, they have they have they have they have now, this this is how I believe how it's going to stay. So if you need to fly into the Bay Area, you can fly into SFO, San Francisco International Airport, or you can fly into OAK, which is the Oakland San Francisco Bay Airport. That just rolls right off the top.
00:16:06
Talkin2Todd
If you were curious.
00:16:08
Todd
Yeah.
00:16:09
Talkin2Todd
OSF is already taken.
00:16:12
Todd
OSF. Okay.
00:16:15
Talkin2Todd
It's Moscow's Ostafievo International Airport. It's the International Business Airport in Moscow.
00:16:27
Todd
Again, don't want to get those confused.
00:16:29
Talkin2Todd
Do not. do no. you know
00:16:31
Todd
You're in Tulsa and you're going to get on a plane and you think you're going to Oakland.
00:16:38
Talkin2Todd
Huh, this is colder.
00:16:40
Todd
Yeah. Yeah. Oh, are we serving vodka on the flight?
00:16:45
Talkin2Todd
Sweet.
00:16:47
Todd
Yeah. So anyway, hopefully, that might be this might be the last time we have to we we have to cover it. mean, technically, we didn't have to cover it now, but we kind of did. So anyway.
00:16:55
Talkin2Todd
The, oh. How about that?
00:17:11
Talkin2Todd
Yep, that's right.
00:17:13
Todd
that theme song or lack of theme song.
00:17:17
Talkin2Todd
Means it's time for Todd ought to know.
00:17:23
Talkin2Todd
if I forget that the soundboard isn't playing in Todd's ear due to a technical glitch. Thank you, Zencaster. What are we paying for here anyway? Oh my god.
00:17:33
Todd
Occasional functionality.
00:17:35
Talkin2Todd
Okay, so the good news is, even if Todd gets it right, he won't hear the bell.
00:17:43
Todd
Nope.

Celebrating 'Airplane!'

00:17:46
Talkin2Todd
So, you remember
00:17:50
Talkin2Todd
several weeks ago now, I was listening to a book about the making of the movie Airplane! Exclamation.
00:17:58
Todd
Yes. Yes.
00:17:59
Talkin2Todd
Yes.
00:17:59
Todd
I remember you talking about that.
00:18:01
Talkin2Todd
Yep, it was really, really good. Jim Abrams, David Zucker, Jerry Zucker put together this book, Real Interviews with the Cast, and the audio version uses the live audio from it and interviews with them to work their way through. Anyway, this week, Toddler Matt Damon sent me an article on Medium and
00:18:28
Talkin2Todd
Where these guys, not, not Abram, zucker and Zucker, this, the writer and his friends who are all comedy writers,
00:18:43
Talkin2Todd
sat down, watched Airplane and ranked every joke in the movie.
00:18:51
Todd
Okay. That's a lot.
00:18:55
Talkin2Todd
It's, it's a lot.
00:18:56
Todd
that's That's a lot. Yeah.
00:18:57
Talkin2Todd
It's a, there's a, it's a, it is, it is, as they say, it, it, it's, it's what's, what do what do you call it when it's written? It's really joke heavy. It's compact. It's dense.
00:19:13
Todd
Okay.
00:19:13
Talkin2Todd
it anyway, so, Questions for you this week, Todd, about the movie Airplane! exclamation and the jokes in the movie.
00:19:27
Todd
Oof. Okay. All right.
00:19:29
Talkin2Todd
let's let's start let's Let's start with the assumption that you have actually seen this movie.
00:19:30
Todd
Luckily...
00:19:36
Todd
So good news. Good news. I have seen this movie.
00:19:40
Talkin2Todd
Excellent. Otherwise, this segment was going to be very short.
00:19:43
Todd
Bad news.
00:19:44
Talkin2Todd
Yeah.
00:19:45
Todd
It's probably within five to 10 years of it being released. so
00:19:53
Talkin2Todd
Oh, okay.
00:19:54
Todd
So we're going to see how well Todd remembers stuff from the 80s is what this now is.
00:20:02
Talkin2Todd
Yes. So question number one, Todd, what year was Airplane!
00:20:05
Todd
Yeah.
00:20:07
Talkin2Todd
exclamation point the movie released?
00:20:14
Todd
I see now I'm bouncing around. I'm like earlier. No, maybe Ford. I remember it would have been too young to see it then. no did I see it? in the No. I'll say 80, 83.
00:20:25
Todd
eighty three That was one of the six guesses I had in my head. Should have gone with it.
00:20:34
Talkin2Todd
We were nine.
00:20:37
Todd
Probably didn't see that in the movie theater then. Okay, good to know.
00:20:39
Talkin2Todd
Probably did not. What we probably watched it on was the laser disc in my parents' basement.
00:20:47
Todd
More than likely.
00:20:48
Talkin2Todd
More than likely, yes.
00:20:51
Talkin2Todd
How long is the movie Airplane, Todd?
00:20:56
Todd
Just as long as it needs to be to fit in all the jokes.
00:21:02
Todd
I'll say running time is 87 minutes.
00:21:05
Talkin2Todd
Did you look that up?
00:21:07
Todd
No, I did not.
00:21:08
Talkin2Todd
Jesus.
00:21:11
Todd
but
00:21:11
Talkin2Todd
Running time is 87 minutes.
00:21:15
Todd
Yes.
00:21:17
Talkin2Todd
Wow.
00:21:24
Todd
Good night, everybody. Drive safely. Tip your waitresses.
00:21:26
Talkin2Todd
That's it? Okay. sure Wow.
00:21:27
Todd
that's it. by Try the veal. Thanks, everybody.
00:21:32
Talkin2Todd
Knowing that the movie is the joke density. That's what I was looking for. The joke density is heavy, right?
00:21:39
Todd
Yeah. Yes.
00:21:41
Talkin2Todd
In this movie, knowing that it is 87 minutes long, including the credits, which include jokes themselves.
00:21:42
Todd
Okay.
00:21:45
Todd
Yep.
00:21:51
Todd
Okay.
00:21:53
Talkin2Todd
How many jokes did they rank in the 87 minutes?
00:21:59
Todd
522. Okay.
00:22:01
Talkin2Todd
Oh, you're a little heavy.
00:22:03
Todd
okay All right. Hold on. Hold on. Let me, let me, I got an algorithm i'm working on here.
00:22:09
Talkin2Todd
Okay.
00:22:09
Todd
300, 348.
00:22:11
Talkin2Todd
You're still heavy.
00:22:13
Todd
Okay. no good.
00:22:15
Talkin2Todd
But you may be closer to correct.
00:22:15
Todd
Cause,
00:22:17
Talkin2Todd
I don't know. Because there are several running gags that that they they may have grouped together.
00:22:22
Todd
yes
00:22:25
Talkin2Todd
178.
00:22:26
Todd
i'll say two hundred two hundred and sixty one
00:22:28
Talkin2Todd
hundred and seventy eight
00:22:30
Todd
oh well that's no good cause
00:22:33
Talkin2Todd
That's a joke every 30 seconds-ish.
00:22:36
Todd
Yeah, I mean, that's two jokes a minute. I mean, i mean okay, sure. yeah By the way, just so you know how we get to the first number, 87 minutes times six.
00:22:42
Talkin2Todd
Yeah. Five.
00:22:46
Todd
I went with six.
00:22:46
Talkin2Todd
Six. okay
00:22:48
Todd
A joke every 10 seconds. that seems about That's how I remember the movie.
00:22:55
Todd
Okay.
00:22:59
Talkin2Todd
Okay, so now we're going to
00:23:01
Todd
Ever been to a Turkish bathhouse? That's a joke. perhaps
00:23:08
Talkin2Todd
Do you like gladiator movies?
00:23:13
Talkin2Todd
Okay, so Todd, knowing that they ranked 178 jokes,
00:23:15
Todd
Yep.
00:23:20
Todd
Okay. Yes.
00:23:24
Talkin2Todd
Jake and I quizzed each other on these.
00:23:27
Todd
Oh,
00:23:29
Talkin2Todd
without be Without me looking at the list. So for you, how many of the top 10 jokes in this movie as ranked by these seven comedy writers can you name?
00:23:44
Todd
oh that's going to be a problem.
00:23:48
Todd
I mean, the the the one that comes to mind, the one that encapsulates the whole movie, I think, is Surely You Can't Be Serious.
00:23:56
Talkin2Todd
It is not in the top 10.
00:24:00
Todd
I mean, it's but that's the line.
00:24:02
Talkin2Todd
It is the line, right?
00:24:03
Todd
OK, that's the line.
00:24:04
Talkin2Todd
Yes.
00:24:08
Todd
OK. I picked a bad day to start stop sniffing glue.
00:24:14
Talkin2Todd
That's another absolutely famous line, not in the top 10.
00:24:19
Todd
Who are these people? Do they even know comedy?
00:24:20
Talkin2Todd
Right? Do that? I don't think they do.
00:24:26
Todd
Oh, is the joke of the the person having a meltdown and then the line of people that are going to come and I believe slap her around.
00:24:38
Talkin2Todd
Calm down, you have to get a hold of yourself. That's number five.
00:24:43
Todd
Okay, okay.
00:24:44
Talkin2Todd
Bell for Todd.
00:24:47
Todd
Ding, ding, ding, ding. Okay, there. I'm doing it on my side.
00:24:52
Todd
They didn't do Roger, Roger over... they Did they do that?
00:24:56
Talkin2Todd
I was under over and over was underdone. I believe that was an airplane too.
00:25:01
Todd
No, no, no. When they were introducing that when they're introducing the the pilots, the...
00:25:05
Talkin2Todd
oh Yeah, Roger Roger over under yes
00:25:07
Todd
Yeah. Yeah. No, not on the list. Okay.
00:25:14
Todd
Let's see. Not on the list. I'm assuming the running gag, though, of when he gets to the airport, the cab is sitting there and he runs in and gets on the airplane and there is a callback near the end of the movie that the cab is still sitting there waiting for him with the meter running. Probably not on the top 10.
00:25:33
Talkin2Todd
it didn't it It did make the list. It did not make the top 10. Clarence, Clarence, Roger, Roger, Vector, Victor is
00:25:41
Todd
Got it. All right. There we go.
00:25:45
Talkin2Todd
drinking problem, also not in the top 10.
00:25:47
Todd
Yeah. All right.
00:25:50
Talkin2Todd
That's when my drinking problem started.
00:25:52
Todd
I'm really hoping that the phrase, you ever seen a grown man naked, did not make the top 10.
00:26:01
Talkin2Todd
That's number three.
00:26:03
Todd
Oh my God. It was a different time. It was a different time. Yeah. I think going to have to give me the other 10. Yeah.
00:26:17
Talkin2Todd
Basically, and basically the same scene. You're Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. My dad thinks you...
00:26:24
Talkin2Todd
My dad thinks you don't work hard during the regular season and only turn it on for the playoffs. Look, you try telling your dad to haul lamb beer up and down the court for 80 games. That's number eight.
00:26:36
Talkin2Todd
And it's all basically in the same scene. Number nine, where Ted tries to teach the African tribe basketball, but they're already amazing at it.
00:26:47
Todd
Okay. Again, simpler time. Yeah.
00:26:51
Talkin2Todd
Right? Number 10, 10, it's an entirely different kind of flying altogether. It's an entirely different kind of flying.
00:27:01
Talkin2Todd
Okay. And then we get to the number seven, where all the reporters run into the phone booth at once and then they all fall over.
00:27:08
Todd
Then the fall, then all the result falls over. Okay.
00:27:12
Talkin2Todd
Which I didn't think was as funny of a newspaper joke as, okay guys, let's get some pictures. And then they take them all off the wall.
00:27:22
Todd
And they all start taking the pictures off the wall. That's a better that's a better joke.
00:27:24
Talkin2Todd
Right, yeah. It's a much better joke than the phone booths all falling over. I'm just, I'm sorry, it just is.
00:27:30
Todd
Yeah.
00:27:32
Todd
The autopilot's not on there, is there?
00:27:33
Talkin2Todd
Numbers, Autopilot is not in the top 10, but it did make the list.
00:27:37
Todd
Okay. Okay.
00:27:39
Talkin2Todd
Number six, sir, excuse me, sorry, sorry to have to wake you. Are you a doctor? And neils Leslie Nielsen is already wearing the stethoscope while he's sleeping.
00:27:52
Talkin2Todd
Yes, yes I am. It's number six. Number four, the two little kids sitting next to each other and he offers her coffee, which she takes.
00:28:08
Talkin2Todd
And then would you like cream? And she says, Todd.
00:28:13
Todd
I can barely see this.
00:28:15
Talkin2Todd
No, thank you. I take it black. Like my men.
00:28:20
Talkin2Todd
and then and and the little kid, the little boy's eyes are about as big as saucers.
00:28:20
Todd
i'm starting to i'm i'm so i'm starting to i'm starting yeah i'm starting I'm starting to think that maybe this wasn't as wholesome family entertainment as I remember.
00:28:27
Talkin2Todd
And then they cut to the next joke.
00:28:34
Talkin2Todd
It was absolutely not wholesome family entertainment.
00:28:40
Talkin2Todd
joe numbermber but the Joke number two. Captain, maybe we ought to turn on the searchlights. No, that's just what they'll be expecting us to do. Not sure how this is the number two joke. it I'm not saying it's not funny because it's Robert Stack and he delivers it absolutely deadpan just like he would in The Untouchables, right?
00:28:57
Todd
Yes.
00:29:02
Talkin2Todd
So.
00:29:04
Todd
Yeah. Yeah. Okay.
00:29:07
Talkin2Todd
And the funniest joke according to these guys.
00:29:11
Talkin2Todd
Captain, how soon can you land? I can't tell. You can tell me. I'm a doctor.
00:29:19
Talkin2Todd
No, I don't know. Can you even take a guess? Not for another two hours. You can't take a guess for another two hours?
00:29:29
Todd
Okay, that one's pretty good.
00:29:30
Talkin2Todd
No, it is. It is pretty good. But there are there. The Ethel Merman joke is at 55. Seriously? 55? Guy thinks he's Ethel Merman? The that i the the That's when my drinking problems started. I'm sorry.
00:29:49
Talkin2Todd
That's a top five joke. And it's a running gag throughout the entire thing where he where they're on the dance floor and he whips off his white jacket and sticks his hand, his pose in the air and the jacket comes flying back in and hits him.
00:30:00
Todd
and nick
00:30:03
Talkin2Todd
That's a top 10 joke. I'm telling you.
00:30:08
Todd
Yeah, i'm I'm a little, I don't i don't know. Yeah.
00:30:16
Talkin2Todd
This woman has to get to a hospital. A hospital? What is it? It's a big building with patients, but that's not important right now.
00:30:21
Todd
That's important right now.
00:30:24
Talkin2Todd
That's only 18. That's only number 18 on the list. I think it ought to be much higher.
00:30:31
Talkin2Todd
Also... Ted sits down next to this old lady and she says, nervous? Yes. First time? No, I've been nervous lots of times.
00:30:42
Talkin2Todd
Anyway, the American icon that is airplane, exclamation. This week's Todd ought to know.
00:30:54
Todd
Yeah, I'm not. Here's the thing.
00:30:56
Talkin2Todd
Yes.
00:30:56
Todd
Should I know this? i don't know. What I think I know is I'm not sure I trust those comedy writers. I think that's what I learned out of this. Maybe that's what I learned this week is I don't trust those comedy writers.
00:31:05
Talkin2Todd
the They did say in their outset,
00:31:12
Talkin2Todd
setting the entire thing up, we do know there are only seven of us. none of whom have made anything nearly as good as airplane.
00:31:23
Todd
yeah
00:31:26
Talkin2Todd
All of us, here's all of us, and they he listed them out if you want to Google us so that you know. Things to keep in mind. Number one, our sample size is way too small. I'd love it if someone redid this study, but with 10 times as many people.
00:31:43
Talkin2Todd
We all love Airplane, so if you're redoing it and find people that hate it, you need to find some people that hate it and some people that have never seen it. We only rated each joke in reference to other Airplane jokes.
00:31:57
Talkin2Todd
Even threes and fours in Airplane is probably equivalent to nines and tens in other movies. Also, there may have been a slight bias towards jokes near the beginning of the movie.
00:32:10
Talkin2Todd
and then lower as they went on. so And there were a bunch of ties. so they But anyway, there was a spreadsheet, and they all ranked them, and it all averaged out real time. But there were only seven of them. So I would have liked to, yes, this is this is an experiment that I wouldn't mind redoing, just going to say.
00:32:33
Talkin2Todd
Anyway.
00:32:37
Todd
Hey, Todd, got a great episode for episode out of time. We're going to watch airplane and rank all that.
00:32:43
Talkin2Todd
It's only 87 minutes. We've done episodes longer than that.
00:32:47
Todd
We've done cold opens longer than that.
00:32:55
Talkin2Todd
What did you bring for the Scott Frost Memorial Idiot of the Week this week?
00:32:58
Todd
Okay. we We may need to, I'm starting to think that I may need to limit how many prediction market idiots we start bringing or I bring to this because otherwise it's going to completely filled up here. But hey, here's a fun one.
00:33:13
Todd
So on April 15th, right around...
00:33:22
Todd
Sorry. Right around, write sorry, Todd, use your words. m On April 15th at 9.30 p.m., the weather station at Charles de Gaulle Airport took a spike. it went from It went from 18 degrees Celsius to 22 degrees Celsius, and then it dropped back down again.
00:33:48
Todd
Weird. Shortly before that happened, a user on Polymarket placed a cheap bet on Polymarket. i Understand this. This is around at 9 p.m. at night. The high temperature for as registered at the airport was eighteen degrees celsius
00:34:12
Todd
At around 9 o'clock at night, a user went on Polymarket and bet that the high temperature wouldn't be 18 degrees Celsius.
00:34:23
Todd
At like 8.30, 9 p.m., bet that. At 9.30, the weather station in the middle of Charles de Gaulle Airport, a secured area, spiked to 22 degrees and then went down.
00:34:42
Todd
that user made $21,000 on that bet. Because at this point, who at nine o'clock at night is going to bet that the temperature is going to increase after?
00:34:59
Todd
oh okay. Concerningly, this isn't the only time this has happened to Charles de Gaulle. On April sixth a person measured, a person took a bet that Paris temperatures would peak at 21 degrees Celsius.
00:35:17
Todd
Again, the temperature at Charles de Gaulle had been 18 degrees in the late afternoon, and at 7 p.m., which is always when things get the warmest part of the day is 7
00:35:31
Talkin2Todd
course, yes, as everyone knows.
00:35:33
Todd
There was a temporary spike from 18 degrees to 21 degrees. That user made $14,000 on that.
00:35:40
Talkin2Todd
What the hell is going on at Charles de Gaulle, Todd?
00:35:44
Todd
Well, that's an excellent question. Some people who have been following, weather nerds who are following this go, that didn't look right. Report it to the reported to the airport. The airport has now reported it to French police. And there's going to be investigating and some investigations.
00:35:59
Todd
But apparently, at least two different users on Polymarket have the ability to affect the weather station at Charles de Gaulle on short notice to place bets to win at least five figures worth of money.
00:36:13
Todd
So these prediction markets really, I mean, this is great. Like, this is absolutely information that we need to know. Hey, look, sure, maybe you can influence...
00:36:24
Todd
whether things get thrown on a court at a wnba game who knows you get the right person maybe you can influence whether a pitch is thrown or whatever but you can't you can't manipulate the weather sorry what you shouldn't be able to manipulate the weather
00:36:44
Todd
Going great. Going great. By the way, temperature is actually kind of important at airports because it affects air density and stuff. Pilots get weather updates. they They need to know wind is important.
00:36:55
Todd
Like, that's why the weather station's in the middle of the airport.
00:36:59
Talkin2Todd
and And they need to know it accurately.
00:37:03
Todd
Yes.
00:37:05
Talkin2Todd
Because there's a difference between 18 and 22 in Celsius.
00:37:08
Todd
Yeah, that's like, the difference is like, I don't know, it's times two. since It's like 175 degrees. I don't know. i don't know i don't I don't do the conversion very well.
00:37:15
Talkin2Todd
I don't know how this, I don't think that's how that works.
00:37:16
Todd
Yeah, that's, no.
00:37:18
Talkin2Todd
That's why they don't let me do math live.
00:37:20
Todd
Yeah, yeah. Anyway, so there you go. Things are going great on the prediction markets. And also, somebody has the keys to the gate at Charles de Gaulle and has a Polymarket account. So cool.
00:37:33
Todd
This is awesome.
00:37:36
Todd
Yeah. I'm glad they're providing a public service of wisdom of the crowds. Jeez. Anyway, who'd you bring?
00:37:45
Talkin2Todd
So
00:37:47
Talkin2Todd
when Amy and I in January sat down to talk about our projects around the house for the year, we had two projects on our list, right?

Bathroom Renovation Woes

00:37:58
Todd
Thanks, Eli. Nope, nope, you didn't even do it. I just, sorry, that was reflexive.
00:38:05
Talkin2Todd
One project was to get her office redone, Lucas's old bedroom into her office, which we got done.
00:38:14
Todd
Tick.
00:38:15
Talkin2Todd
Right.
00:38:15
Todd
Tick. Use the other switch.
00:38:19
Talkin2Todd
Use the other switch. Exactly. So project number two,
00:38:25
Talkin2Todd
our primary bathroom.
00:38:29
Talkin2Todd
is a galley bathroom, or our master bathroom, right? Galley bathroom, shower on the left, two sinks on the right, hallway down the middle, leads into our closet, right?
00:38:47
Talkin2Todd
The door to the shower,
00:38:50
Talkin2Todd
is a swinging door that opens right into the middle of the place where you walk. It also opens right into the middle of the backside of either of us if we are standing at the sink.
00:39:04
Todd
Got it. Yep.
00:39:05
Talkin2Todd
And it has always been like this in the house. You know how when i when when we talk about, you know, you're finding, you go and you look at a new house and you buy a new house, you're familiar with this more so than me generally a little bit, right?
00:39:18
Todd
A little bit. sure Yes.
00:39:20
Talkin2Todd
But what's my advice to you is find the things that absolutely drive you crazy. The things that you like, you'll always like, but it's the things that absolutely drive you crazy that you're going to have to deal with.
00:39:35
Talkin2Todd
Either learn to live with them or figure out how to fix them, right? You've done this.
00:39:40
Todd
Yes.
00:39:41
Talkin2Todd
Right? So this has been, we have lived with the shower door and bathroom for nine years. And this is the year that we are going to fix that. Not only are we going to.
00:39:50
Todd
As God is my witness, we will not live this way for the 10th year.
00:39:55
Talkin2Todd
Exactly. So.
00:39:58
Talkin2Todd
Instead of just replacing the swinging door, this is a tile shower. And at some point, the grout in the tile needs to be totally redone, resealed, all of this kind of stuff. It had gotten to the point where, you know what, we're just going to take the entire thing out and replace the shower.
00:40:16
Talkin2Todd
Fantastic. That's the plan.
00:40:17
Todd
Take it to the studs. Just take it down.
00:40:19
Talkin2Todd
Yep. Down to the studs. Off it goes. We're just going to remove the entire thing. So that was the plan. We talked to three different contractors. We signed a deal, blah, blah, blah. So anyway, it was going to happen. Scheduled to happen the second week of May.
00:40:37
Talkin2Todd
Last Monday, I got a phone call from the contractor saying, hey, We had an opening on our schedule and we've got stuff.
00:40:50
Talkin2Todd
Are you interested? Yes. I didn't even let him finish. Are you? Yes. Yes. when When do you want to be here? you want to start tomorrow? Yeah, let's start tomorrow. I can do tomorrow. Tomorrow's great. Let's get this thing done.
00:41:03
Talkin2Todd
Fantastic. Super. Excellent. Clint shows up. Clint is not the guy on the phone. Clint is the construction contractor, the tile, the shower installer, contractor, subcontractor that's doing all the work. Shows up on Tuesday morning and he starts doing the tear out.
00:41:24
Talkin2Todd
And the only time that he was running the jackhammer to jackhammer out the tile on the floor was when I was having a meeting.
00:41:30
Todd
Mm-hmm.
00:41:31
Talkin2Todd
Of course he was.
00:41:32
Todd
Sure. Sweet.
00:41:33
Talkin2Todd
Still not my idiot of the week.
00:41:36
Talkin2Todd
that he's about, I don't know, two thirds of the way done with the tear out and the delivery truck shows up with all of the equipment, right? Fantastic. So, and it's just Clint, right?
00:41:46
Todd
sweet
00:41:48
Talkin2Todd
And we've got these big, huge shower walls. And so I go out and I help him haul some things around and, and the
00:41:57
Talkin2Todd
OSB for the back walls and all of this kind of stuff. And we're working through it. da-dadada And he's like, Shower pan's not here. Uh-oh, shower pan's not here.
00:42:08
Talkin2Todd
Oh, that could be a problem. Okay, well, let's figure out what's going on. So he gets on the phone and calls the main contractor.
00:42:18
Talkin2Todd
Didn't make it on the truck. Eh. Okay. Custom molded shower pan for our shower.
00:42:31
Talkin2Todd
This is normally a
00:42:31
Todd
can can't can't Can't just run down to Home Depot and get another one.
00:42:35
Talkin2Todd
well, Zachary calls me back an hour later. Okay, I've got a same day solution for you, but it's a white shower pan. It's in Des Moines, white shower pan, and we can keep moving forward.
00:42:54
Talkin2Todd
instead of the custom sand color that will match your tile that is the rest of the bathroom like you wanted. And I said, I'm about 99.9% no, but let me check with the boss.
00:43:07
Talkin2Todd
Amy, no, she didn't even, no, fine. And I'm on board with that. No, so great. Okay, so where is the shower pan?
00:43:20
Talkin2Todd
Libertyville, Illinois. Tap, tap, tap, tap, tap. tap tap That's a northwest suburb of Chicago. It is five and a half hours away. At this point, it's 1030 in the morning on Tuesday.
00:43:34
Talkin2Todd
Okay.
00:43:34
Todd
Hey, Greg, can you pick up a shower pan and meet me in Dubuque?
00:43:40
Talkin2Todd
this point, it should have.
00:43:42
Todd
Did that even cross your mind?
00:43:46
Talkin2Todd
at this point it should have
00:43:50
Talkin2Todd
So Clint finishes up with a tear up, hauls everything out, kind of cleans everything up sort of, and puts his stuff away. He's like, okay, I'll be back tomorrow morning. They're going to ship it overnight. We'll have it here. They'll put it on the truck. Truck will drive it out. It'll be here tomorrow morning. Not a problem. We'll keep moving. We'll be done. We may not be all the way done tomorrow, but we'll be done.
00:44:14
Talkin2Todd
we' we're we're on We're on target. Okay, great. I'll see you tomorrow. 8.30 Wednesday morning, no Clint. 9.30 Wednesday morning, no Clint, no phone call from Zachary.
00:44:26
Talkin2Todd
At this point, Zachary is already on my idiots of the week list.
00:44:32
Talkin2Todd
Eventually, Clint's truck shows up sitting outside my house, Clint just sitting in the truck, like, huh, wonder what's going on. So I walk out, stand out in the driveway, talk to Clint.
00:44:46
Talkin2Todd
Yeah, the pan didn't make it on the truck overnight.
00:44:50
Todd
Oh.
00:44:53
Talkin2Todd
okay. Well, what's our plan now? Well, I don't know.
00:45:00
Todd
Well, I'm going to get lunch and then and then I got the afternoon off.
00:45:02
Talkin2Todd
Right? Yeah. Smoke.
00:45:04
Todd
So I'm going to go over to the zoo and go look at some bears.
00:45:05
Talkin2Todd
Smoke.
00:45:10
Talkin2Todd
But at this point, I still think we're going to be solved sooner rather than later. But with Relays Weekend coming and toddler negative 18 coming to our house to visit, I'm like, when we get to Thursday, we got to be done.
00:45:27
Talkin2Todd
Either done, done, or just done with the construction and we just live with this until we're done. Like, well, okay, so...
00:45:40
Talkin2Todd
It's not going to be on the truck tonight. And at this point, it's Wednesday. We're not going to do any construction on Thursday. I'm like, okay, we're just we're just going to put a full stop on this thing. And we'll pick it up on Monday morning. Okay, that's great. Everybody's on board with that plan. Great.
00:45:55
Talkin2Todd
Clint's off to the next job. We're ready to go on Monday morning. Monday morning, no Clint, no phone call from Zachary.
00:46:07
Talkin2Todd
Eventually, i leave a voicemail for Zachary. Get nothing. Then he calls me back at about 11 o'clock. So, oh, oh, oh, oh wait.
00:46:19
Talkin2Todd
In the meantime, on Friday, i get a FedEx notice on my phone.
00:46:27
Todd
Oh, okay.
00:46:29
Talkin2Todd
that 117 pound package is being delivered on Saturday. I'm like, yes, that's the pan. We're in good shape. Fantastic. They're just going FedEx it rather than put it on a different truck. That makes perfect sense. That's great. That'll be fine. It'll be here on Saturday.
00:46:45
Talkin2Todd
Amy and I pick it up on Saturday and move it into the garage. Excellent. No worries. Monday, no Clint, no phone call. Eventually I get a phone call back from Zachary. Hey, good news, bad news.
00:47:01
Talkin2Todd
I don't like any of that. I only like good news at this point.
00:47:08
Talkin2Todd
So I'm like, was the box that came on Saturday, the the the the pan? Are we ready to go? He's like, no, those were the shower doors.
00:47:18
Talkin2Todd
Like, oh, okay.
00:47:21
Todd
I was wondering, 117-pound shower pan, unless they made it out of lead, is probably way way heavier than you would expect.
00:47:33
Talkin2Todd
I unless they boxed it in protective whatever to make sure that it wasn't. I don't know. Anyway, well, it's heavy and and it's supposed to be super heavy.
00:47:40
Todd
Protective lead. yeah
00:47:45
Talkin2Todd
So that it doesn't fall apart and break over time anyway. Those are the shower doors. OK, so that's the good news is the shower doors are now here.
00:47:57
Talkin2Todd
OK, the bad news is that they broke the shower pan and. in the process to the point where it's non-repairable. Custom molded that they have to start again from zero.
00:48:12
Talkin2Todd
And then it has to cure. So when are we actually gonna do this? Well, I'm really uncomfortable giving you a date at this point, because it would be a total guess.
00:48:23
Talkin2Todd
Great.
00:48:27
Todd
Well, when will you, when, when was my shower pan going to get here? I couldn't possibly say. I mean, if you had to take a guess, two weeks, you can guess in two weeks or it'll be here in two weeks.
00:48:43
Talkin2Todd
Who knows?
00:48:46
Talkin2Todd
But here's the thing.
00:48:48
Talkin2Todd
He didn't have a same-day solution last Tuesday when the pan wasn't here to begin with because the goddamn shower doors didn't end up here till Saturday.
00:49:00
Todd
Listen, here's the thing.
00:49:03
Todd
We're stuck on step two. We don't need to talk about step six. We'll solve step two. Then we worry about step six. Step six is going to be a problem? Absolutely. But we don't need to worry about that right now because step two is a problem.
00:49:19
Talkin2Todd
i Clint showed up this afternoon to take away all of the tools that he left behind because he has other jobs that he has to do I really hope that I get to see Clint again soon, but I don't know when.
00:49:33
Todd
really good at demo, little less at the, you know, non-demo.
00:49:41
Talkin2Todd
multiple idiots in this process. Maybe it's me for starting a construction project just generically because nothing ever goes a court with the way it's supposed to. I should know this by now with construction projects. There's there's always problems. I just, this is really, oh my God.
00:50:00
Talkin2Todd
That's my idiot story.
00:50:02
Todd
I was really actually hoping that you were going to say and Tuesday it wasn't there. And then on Wednesday you checked and it was in Louisville. And then you checked on Thursday and now it was in Des Moines. And then, but you couldn't get it yet.
00:50:15
Todd
And then the following day it was back in Louisville for reasons that I'm not clear about. Like, wait, is it just flying back and forth? Yes. It was strangest thing I've seen. Yeah, I've heard about it. Yeah, it's fine.
00:50:28
Talkin2Todd
So the thing that I was watching this week was the Drake relays. How about you? What were you watching this week?
00:50:34
Todd
We've been watching more hockey. So hockey's back on. We we live in an NHL city now. So we have to we have to watch the well we have to watch that game and others.
00:50:46
Todd
So there's been there's been a lot of hockey on. so watching yeah Although last night, Lisa did get a little disill disillusioned. when they announced that the Stanley Cup playoff finals will take place in June.
00:51:00
Todd
And she's like, wait, what? This is a six-week process? and i'm Yes. just
00:51:08
Talkin2Todd
Uh-huh.
00:51:10
Todd
Along with basketball, can't tie this up too quick. I believe this is also going to be the new gonna be the new schedule for the NCAA for March Madness is also going to end in June with 76 teams. But
00:51:22
Talkin2Todd
Oh, my God.
00:51:23
Talkin2Todd
I don't know why they're doing this. It's an extra weekend.
00:51:23
Todd
but
00:51:26
Todd
Money. The answer to all your questions is money.
00:51:30
Talkin2Todd
It's money. You're right.
00:51:31
Todd
Yes.
00:51:31
Talkin2Todd
Yes.
00:51:32
Todd
Yeah.
00:51:35
Talkin2Todd
the The thing that I learned this week, we've talked, I think maybe as long as we've been doing this podcast, about how I'm on the House Corporation board for the Fraternity House.
00:51:37
Todd
Yes.
00:51:48
Todd
I believe that's come up in idiots many times.
00:51:50
Talkin2Todd
Many, many times. So the guys...
00:51:56
Todd
They dumped the trash. Where?
00:51:58
Talkin2Todd
yeah
00:52:00
Talkin2Todd
Oh, dear. ink And recruiting starts when? Tonight? Oh, God. Anyway, so the guys at the house,
00:52:11
Talkin2Todd
bless them, the annual awards for fraternity and sorority life, they nominated me for house director of the year this year, and I won.
00:52:25
Todd
Okay. Congratulations.
00:52:27
Talkin2Todd
Thank you. I have a very nice plaque sitting here on my desk. I took a picture with Brett, who's the... but House president this year, who was also Amy's intern, it's is very it's very touching. yeah It really means a lot to me that they thought to nominate me and to be recognized.
00:52:49
Talkin2Todd
I was texting with one of my one of my old fraternity buddies that we pledged together. So we've known each other since then. a long, long time. Anyway, not as long as you and I have known each other, but Shimp and I have known each other for a really long time. And I texted him over the weekend. He's like, oh, it's really nice that you're back at the house. I'm like, dude, I'm back like once every eight days.
00:53:14
Talkin2Todd
it's It's not as big a deal for me to be back at the house.
00:53:18
Todd
Best case scenario, every eight days. Some weeks, significantly shorter amount of time between visits.
00:53:27
Talkin2Todd
Back again tomorrow morning for an appraisal. Fantastic.
00:53:32
Todd
I did see, is it Brett, the president? i did did he He won the FSL Leadership Award?
00:53:39
Talkin2Todd
He did. Yep.
00:53:41
Todd
Yeah, yeah. I think I saw that and then I texted you and said, i I'm assuming that the Drake Fraternity and Sorority League, the leadership the leadership award doesn't have a a section on general sump pump knowledge because otherwise disqualified.
00:54:01
Talkin2Todd
It did not.
00:54:01
Todd
Oh, he was doing so well.
00:54:02
Talkin2Todd
doing so Oh, dang.
00:54:03
Todd
Oh, yeah.
00:54:04
Talkin2Todd
Just lost points for that. Oh, man.
00:54:07
Todd
And here's here's the question.
00:54:09
Talkin2Todd
Yes.
00:54:09
Todd
You walk, you Brett, you walk into you walk into the house and you find out that the sump pump is unplugged. What do you do? uh, text Dwayne.
00:54:23
Todd
Jeez, that's...
00:54:25
Talkin2Todd
I mean, it's not wrong.
00:54:28
Todd
Sorry, sorry. Text House Director of the Year Dwayne. That's not the part of the question you missed.
00:54:36
Talkin2Todd
thats How about you? What did you learn this week, Todd?

Todd's Half Marathon Adventure

00:54:41
Todd
Hey, so i was I was talking about, so on Saturday, I did another did another half marathon, did the Salt Lake City half marathon. I did complete it. the the Thank you. Yes, thank you. the the the the There was a lot of people. There's 11,000 people that run the combined, it's the marathon, the half marathon, there's a 5K and 10K. Yeah.
00:55:05
Todd
11,000 people total. I should have known, if i if you look at the profile, it it says, oh, overall, it drops, the elevation drops. You start up on the bench by the mountain and you run through past the state capitol and through sort of this park and you run through A number of places in Salt Lake City. And Nathan ran this last year. And I and i said i said, hey, by the way, the course is pretty much downhill, right? And he goes, sure.
00:55:34
Todd
And he's like, there's there's a bit of a about seven and a half miles and there is a bit of a hill. I'm like, okay, good to know, yeah, yeah. Okay, so i get off I start running, and what he didn't and let me know was at.75,
00:55:48
Todd
the the first inside the first mile, you go around a corner and then up. And you're like, oh, oh.
00:55:54
Talkin2Todd
Oh.
00:55:55
Todd
So I just started off just seeing what things were going to go, you know again, haven't trained enough or whatever. And at mile two, I was like, okay, now I'm warmed up. And I make i make a i make a decision.
00:56:06
Todd
Today is a fun run. I'm not worried about... I'm not worried about the time on the watch. I have a general target, not even a goal, just a target.
00:56:19
Todd
But the goal here is to have fun regardless of time. Make that early. You don't want to make that late. A couple of other things. I find... One of the things that I find interesting is there's always people on the side, and this closes down this closes down some very expensive neighborhoods in Salt Lake City for like hours. So a lot of people could just come out, and because they can't go anywhere, they're kind of trapped in their house, so they come out, and they...
00:56:48
Todd
you know, I guess we'll, I guess we'll enjoy it. There was a dude in his bathrobe and slippers and a cup of coffee standing at the end of his driveway. Like he's getting his paper, just doing this way to go. Way to go.
00:57:00
Todd
Way to go. to Way to go. way to go Way to go. And then people out there have signs on all the ones that i run on. you know People have signs for their you know for their dad or their a lot of like, hey, mom, you're doing great or whoever. One of the signs that always shows up is a sign that people hold up that say worst parade ever.
00:57:22
Todd
That's always inspiring. Yep, that's great. Also, inevitably, in every run I've been, and not in not in the u not in the UK, but at least here, every run I've been in, there's at least a multiple people holding up signs that says, remember, you paid for this. That's cool. And then... Yeah. And then there was one early on and there was a, there was a, there was somebody, there was like a kid standing there with a sign and I'm looking and let's be honest, I have plenty of time to read the signs because I am not going very fast. So the letters can be small. I'll read it. The sign said,
00:58:01
Todd
one day you won't be able to do this. And I thought, oh, well, that's a that's a that's a kind of a that's a dark thought, right? like like Is that like a seize the day kind of message? like And while I'm like, are you are you reminding us that we're all getting older like or whatever? And then the kid standing next to them held up the second sign that said, but today is not that day. And I thought, oh, i okay, I see what we're doing now. i
00:58:32
Todd
Got it.
00:58:32
Talkin2Todd
Yep, yep, yep.
00:58:33
Todd
Yes. Yes. This is, this wasn't a, remember we're all getting older and someday we'll die. This is no, you got this today. I was like, okay, thank you.
00:58:40
Talkin2Todd
Yep, that's nice.
00:58:41
Todd
The fun part about this. Yes. Right. The fun part about this is the marathon and half marathon start together from the same location. And then for the first nine miles, it follows the same course. And then shortly after nine miles, the marathon branches off to do their extra about 11 miles.
00:59:04
Todd
they They do it like kind kind of.
00:59:04
Talkin2Todd
The Keras loop. Okay.
00:59:08
Todd
kind of Yeah. And so they go off and they keep going. They make a turn and we go straight and then we kind of wrap around and then they join back up at at two miles left So for me at around mile 11, for them at mile 24, the course joins back up and the last two miles are together until you get to the finishing line and then they separate you.
00:59:35
Todd
A half marathon goes on one side, marathon goes on the other. And I was like, I don't understand why would you do that for timing? Then I realized they've got the finishers medals. So you have to, you you go to the one, so whatever.
00:59:46
Todd
Anyway, so I'm at mile 11 and, and again, Fun run, meaning just enjoying myself. just I'm not going super fast here. And then some dude just goes flying past me at mile 11 and a half, like just flies right past me. And I'm like, man.
01:00:06
Todd
And I'm thinking, like I started in the slow group, right? yeah They start in groups and the fast group goes out and I'm like, man, wonder what, like, did he just, oh, that's weird. And then another dude just comes flying past me and I'm like, man, he doesn't look like, i mean, and then I'm like, oh,
01:00:27
Todd
oh
01:00:31
Todd
At which point, multiple other really fast fit dudes go flying past me for the last two miles.
01:00:31
Talkin2Todd
time. aye
01:00:43
Todd
Did the winner of the marathon beat my half marathon time? Yes, they did.
01:00:48
Todd
Did the second, third, fourth, fifth, sixth? I will tell you this. I don't think any of them got an award for passing Yeah.
01:01:00
Todd
Admittedly now, they probably started 15 minutes ahead of me based off of the staging, but they did an extra 13.1 miles and still beat me.
01:01:11
Todd
and And I was just, I'm like, boy, look at them run. That's, wow, that's something. Sorry, sorry didn't mean to get in your way. I kind of felt like at that point,
01:01:22
Talkin2Todd
yeah
01:01:23
Todd
I realized, you know, when you're in Iowa you're out in the country and the tractor's got that that sign on the back with with the flashing lights, I'm like, do I need to add this to my running gear? The answer is I might need to.
01:01:38
Talkin2Todd
big Big tall orange flag.
01:01:40
Todd
Yeah. Go around. Go around. Yeah.

Talkin2Todd
Todd?
01:02:35
Todd
Okay, so either we watch Airplane and we rank the 176 or jokes, in that movie.
01:02:44
Talkin2Todd
Uh-huh.
01:02:45
Todd
or we watch scarface and we rank the one hundred and eighty two f bombs in that movie what are we ranking it on?
01:02:57
Todd
i don't know, but we're going to have to be really clear about, wait, wait, which F bomb did you mean? Well, the one in the 62nd minute, you're going to have to be more precise because there's 182 them.
01:03:17
Talkin2Todd
what's What's the phrase? Say hello to my little F-bomb? is that is it Is that not right? that's I don't think that's right.
01:03:24
Todd
Oh, wait, he says, say hello to my little friend. Technically, friend is an F word, 183. Hey, everybody's been counting this wrong.
01:03:32
Talkin2Todd
I said frick.
01:03:36
Talkin2Todd
I'm sure we're going to have something we need to clean up next week. Until then, we're talking to Todd.
01:04:10
Talkin2Todd
You ever seen a grown man naked?
01:04:13
Todd
That was a lot funnier before, you know, recent events. do you want to come to my island? Oh, no. yes
