Talkin2Todd: Oh my god.
Todd: Fastest pre-show we've done.
Talkin2Todd: Well, I know, right?
Todd: Okay.
Talkin2Todd: yeah Efficient, man.
Todd: Yeah.
Talkin2Todd: Levels, levels.
Todd: Levels, levels.
Talkin2Todd: So we're kind of sneaking this one in under the wire.
Todd: Yeah. I mean, one of the things I'm proud about this podcast is that we've released something every week since we started.
Talkin2Todd: Without fail.
Todd: Yep. and And if I'm honest, also without encouragement. Yeah.
Talkin2Todd: That's accurate. In fact, you know, so sometimes we hear, yeah you know, maybe you guys should take a break once in a while.
Talkin2Todd: So, yeah i like, we're, again, we're sneaking this in under the wire here. It's Saturday. On July 4th, actually. Yesterday, you were ready, and I fell asleep.
Todd: Oh, was that what happened?
Talkin2Todd: Yeah. Sorry. Sorry about that. What happened today? I was on the golf course. I got a text from you. Hey, I'm clear all afternoon. and now what happened?
Todd: Well, I mean, we originally the plan was we thought we would be.
Talkin2Todd: What did you guys go buy a boat or something?
Todd: I mean, close.
Talkin2Todd: No, wait, what?
Todd: Stay tuned. I've got content for later.
Talkin2Todd: Buckle up, toddlers.
Talkin2Todd: Hi toddlers. Welcome to talking to Todd, a weekly podcast with Wayne Johnson and Todd Prins where failure is always an option. Thanks for joining us. Hey Todd.
Todd: Hey, how's it going?
Talkin2Todd: Pretty good. Pretty good. How are you?
Todd: Not bad, not bad at all. Back here in Studio a here at the Disclosed Undisclosed location, it's like old times, except for the fact that everything was unplugged and nothing is where I thought I left it. Other than that, but it's just like old times.
Todd: That didn't sound right. Lean back, adjust the microphone. Yeah, okay, cool.
Talkin2Todd: Yeah, lean back lean back again.
Todd: Yeah, hopefully. Yep, lean back again, just do that. Yeah, it's, it's boy, this this just this feels like, did we do this for a while? Yeah, did this did this a lot out of here, so.
Todd: Oh, yes. You got some golfing in today.
Talkin2Todd: i did, I did. This is, well, I golf Thursday afternoon, i golf Friday morning, and I golf this morning, and I'm golfing again tomorrow morning.
Todd: Yep. Yep. Yep.
Todd: Freedom. That's.
Talkin2Todd: That's how I celebrate.
Todd: Yep.
Talkin2Todd: a i released some golf balls into the wild on to celebrate. That's what I did.
Todd: look at Look at those majestic birds just go.
Talkin2Todd: just Just keep on going to never return because I ain't going in there.
Todd: Be free. and
Talkin2Todd: Let's see. Feedback, follow-up, and updates.
Todd: Yeah.
Talkin2Todd: We have... I got a... Got a note from Doug from the idiot toddlers. Location said, hello.
Todd: Yep.
Talkin2Todd: Joke for one person, joke received.
Todd: Excellent. That means it's 100% successful.
Talkin2Todd: Can't say that very often. Sometimes we do jokes for people that don't listen. Let's see. This was...
Talkin2Todd: Michael, toddler, 818, sent me a story. Did you see the story about the giant banana car?
Todd: Nope, that does not ring a bell. it's It's not being operated by Waymo, is it? Because that's that's where I see most of my car stories.
Talkin2Todd: i
Talkin2Todd: So for 15 years, this guy has driven a 23-foot banana across the country. And on Wednesday, just like hundreds of times before, he was pulled over by law enforcement.
Talkin2Todd: They always find a reason to pull me over, he said. Montana police officers spotted a giant banana rolling through Billings on Wednesday afternoon. Pulled the guy over. Steve Braithwaite, owner, builder, and full-time driver of the 23-foot-long Big Banana car.
Talkin2Todd: Not to be confused with the Oscar Mayer Wiener car.
Todd: Totally different. same Same general concept, but different.
Talkin2Todd: Totally confused. Yes. this So the in the the picture of the banana car, seats four
Talkin2Todd: in a row. It's not two and two. It's one, two, three, four. Everybody has everybody has two window seats.
Todd: Oh, I'm looking at a picture i'm looking at a picture of it now.
Talkin2Todd: and
Todd: yeah. yeah
Talkin2Todd: And there are no windows.
Todd: there's there's no windows cause there's no roof.
Talkin2Todd: That's right. Yes.
Todd: I mean, yeah. Okay.
Talkin2Todd: So apparently there was an issue with a license plate.
Todd: look Looking at the picture.
Talkin2Todd: Yeah.
Todd: yeah I, I will say this. If that, if I was at a theme park and I stood in line for 45 minutes and then they're like, this is the thing that you have to get in to go incredibly fast and like do loop to loops, I'd be like, you know what? Nope.
Todd: Nope. Nevermind. Nevermind. That doesn't look safe. You know what? And I'll just, I'll just go someplace else.
Talkin2Todd: Traffic light turns red. Breathe wait stops. Light turns green. Made a leisurely turn through the intersection. few moments later, cop pulls him over. Police officer marches up.
Talkin2Todd: You know the reason I pulled you over back there? You peeled out. Seriously?
Talkin2Todd: Thank you, Michael. Appreciate that.
Todd: I love this though on his webpage.
Todd: Is the big banana car world tour ever going to happen? He had a two part plan. According to him, he had a two part plan. Number one, build a huge motorized banana. Done that.
Todd: Number two, drive it all around the world working on it. There you go. Like that's all the plan you need.
Talkin2Todd: Our kind of guy.
Todd: Build giant banana car, drive it around the world. Two steps. you know there's There's no step three. It's just that simple.
Talkin2Todd: there's really They're really they really, no, yes.
Talkin2Todd: Let's see. Oh, and then we got some got some anonymous feedback
Talkin2Todd: about our construction update segment.
Talkin2Todd: My wife walked in and said, what's next?
Talkin2Todd: And the anonymous feedback was, we had to take a break from this kind of stuff so the spouse would stop looking around for more stuff to update. Hey, I have an idea for the house. Translation, i saw something on Pinterest Instagram that will be tedious, expensive, and will require you to buy like four new tools, one of which you never even knew existed. Like suddenly I'm the third fucking property brother. Apparently our discussion resonated.
Todd: okay
Todd: Could be worse. Hey, we're going the mudroom. I didn't even know we had a mudroom. Well, we're doing it. Okay. that's
Talkin2Todd: There's a room full of mud. and I've never understood this.
Todd: Yes.
Talkin2Todd: Who keeps a room full of mud?
Talkin2Todd: Let's see. I had i had a single
Talkin2Todd: last week when we were talking about the FIFA hotel room story.
Todd: And them getting out of their commitment.
Talkin2Todd: Yes. You said two weeks. They canceled two weeks before the events. It was actually a few months prior to the event that they released the rooms back.
Talkin2Todd: So which isn't uncommon in that kind of contract. However,
Talkin2Todd: The feedback from my team at work was that's fantastic negotiation for that many hotel rooms to get out of it with zero is that zero cost for the cancellation. that's fair We need to hire that guy that's or organ or gal. That's fantastic negotiation.
Todd: Or, or hear me out, just change the name of your hotel booking internal team to FIFA and then just call around to hotels and say, hi, we're with FIFA and we would like to use the old contract.
Talkin2Todd: Can you just send that over to me? i did so i can
Todd: Yeah.
Talkin2Todd: i need to review that.
Todd: Yeah.
Talkin2Todd: that'd be my guess is My guess is they're not going be signing any more FIFA contracts in the future.
Todd: Yeah. But,
Talkin2Todd: Not sure that that's going to work out the way you would like it to.
Todd: I will just say this, given it what we've talked about in the year running up to this, if at any point as part of your work, somebody on your team goes, you know, we should start doing business the way FIFA does business. That's where you just call a team timeout and let everybody just like, you know what, we're going to take about an hour or two. Just go think about where we are in our lives.
Todd: If FIFA is now our role model.
Talkin2Todd: Speaking of, I had a piece of World Cup follow-up.
Todd: Okay.
Talkin2Todd: Did you see the story about the soccer fan who was traveling to the United States to come see a game in Boston?
Talkin2Todd: he vanished. vanished. English soccer fan vanished while traveling to the United States for the World Cup, was found safe in Spain, blissfully unaware of his family's anguished search for him.
Todd: I did not see that, no.
Talkin2Todd: Michael Hewitt, 65, last spoke with his family in Barcelona on June 21. and jetted out of the UK to connect through Spain before, for a short layover, he set to fly to Boston. He lost his phone, which contained all of his travel tickets and there then was stuck in Barcelona.
Talkin2Todd: Didn't know any of the numbers. I mean, other than my wife's phone number and your phone number and I will fall and my old
Todd: I was going to say the phone number when we grew up.
Talkin2Todd: When we we grew up, yes. those Those I still remember.
Todd: Yeah.
Talkin2Todd: If you ask me almost any other phone number, I'll be darned if I could tell you what it was. He knew none of the phone numbers stored on his phone.
Todd: I think there's a six in it.
Talkin2Todd: So little Mick, he still had his passport and his money, but he didn't go to the embassy because he didn't think they'd be interested. He was blissfully unaware that his family was searching for him. Instead, he just got on with enjoying Barcelona and watching the England matches in bars.
Talkin2Todd: They eventually contacted the embassy and the embassy tracked him down by using credit card charges and where his credit card was being used so that they could then go and find him.
Talkin2Todd: The reason this falls into follow-up is A, World Cup, and two, do you know which soccer team he's a fan of, Todd?
Todd: from England. Uh, no. Uh, who, who does he call?
Talkin2Todd: Leeds United. Yes.
Todd: Oh, well, so is, so he was.
Talkin2Todd: Again, blissfully unaware of his surroundings, probably peeing wherever he wanted.
Todd: Yeah. Yeah.
Todd: Yeah. Good news. I don't need to worry about that.
Talkin2Todd: This went on for 10 days before they finally tracked him down. That came to us from the watchful eyes of toddler negative 18.
Talkin2Todd: Let's see, what else do we have here in fall?
Todd: For see, for a second, I thought that story was going to go a different direction because you hear about these occasionally.
Talkin2Todd: Yes.
Todd: But I thought what you were gonna say is he was in Barcelona. He he ended up getting on a plane to the Boston that's in Spain. And I'm like, that doesn't sound right. That doesn't sound right. at Nope.
Todd: I don't. That doesn't make any.
Talkin2Todd: Nope. Nope.
Todd: if If you said that there was a World Cup match in Madrid and he ended up in Madrid. OK, I can get that. But but not but not Boston. But sure.
Talkin2Todd: what else What else we have under follow-up here?
Todd: Hey, last year, the pro shot for Six the Musical came out in the UK. And Lisa and I were over there. And we got we went into an actual movie theater and watched it.
Todd: Then I reported back.
Talkin2Todd: Yes, I remember this.
Todd: And there was a comment about, at some point, it will probably be released in the United States.
Talkin2Todd: Uh-huh.
Todd: That movie is due to be released. Six, the musical, the movie. I don't think that's, there's a lot of colons in there. And I don't i don't think that's what they're, anyway, August 14th. it will be hitting theaters here in the United States. So if you would like to go see the pro shot of six, the musical, the movie, then yes, starting August 14th, it should be available.
Todd: So anyway, I just, again, i was like, oh, that's right. We saw that last year.
Talkin2Todd: Oh yeah, that's right, yeah.
Todd: Oh, it's great that it's finally coming out over here. Yeah, that's great. took a They must have they mustve just like mailed that, like the film got mailed like UPS ground or something. And it's just been bouncing back between like between Louisville and London.
Talkin2Todd: In Ontario.
Todd: Yeah. Just yeah. All the Ontario's. It was in Canada for a while. There was in California. was just, it was just bouncing around. I mean, I mean, maybe it wasn't unlimited, but I, you know, it it may have at least gone back and forth across the pond at least six times.
Talkin2Todd: We've...
Todd: So yeah.
Talkin2Todd: Of course they're dead.
Todd: What else?
Talkin2Todd: We've talked several times here about Berkshire Hathaway and their CEO, Greg Abel, who lives in Des Moines.
Todd: Yes.
Talkin2Todd: On June 25th, he was in the news again because he threw out the first pitch at the iCubs game here in Des Moines. and also became a US citizen, Canadian native living in Des Moines, who so succeeded succeeded Warren Buffett as CEO of Berkshire Hathaway,
Talkin2Todd: You know how how Gartner did for has done for a long time citizenship night at the ballpark and they people become citizens and get sworn in or whatever. 29 new citizens from 16 countries were naturalized during a ceremony before an Iowa Cubs game. And then Greg Abel threw out the first pitch.
Talkin2Todd: So there you go. Again, we start talking about these things and they continue to hit our feet.
Todd: Now, now
Todd: now stepping to the mound, a CEO you've never heard of, except for you, that one guy. Come on up. Greg Smith? No. but
Talkin2Todd: Nope.
Todd: but some Whatever.
Talkin2Todd: Nope.
Todd: Just throw the pitch.
Talkin2Todd: yeah Yep. Annual citizenship celebration. So anyway, way to go, Greg. good job Good job out of you. oh and then because we cover this every year.
Talkin2Todd: July 1st was Bobby Bonilla Day.
Todd: for those who celebrate For those who celebrate, and I know at least one person who does, and his name is Bobby Bonilla.
Talkin2Todd: Happy Bobby Bonilla
Talkin2Todd: Day. So this year, this isn't what I learned this week, but this year, the backstory behind this, did you know Todd, did you, and this isn't what i learned this week, and this also isn't Todd out of no, but did you know that Bernie Madoff is the reason that the Mets have this contract with Bobby Bonilla?
Todd: i You know what? i read the article I read an article about the background of it a couple of years ago. i do i don't think I knew that, but at the same point, it's like that kind of rings a bit of a bell.
Talkin2Todd: Okay, so here's the backstory. In 2000, the Mets owed Bobby $5.9 million dollars and wanted him gone. But rather than cut the check, they spread it across 25 years at 8% interest starting in 2011. Total payout, $29.8 million. dollars On its face, it looks really stupid. Pay $30 million to not pay $6 million.
Talkin2Todd: Except Fred Wilpon, had a plan for the 5.9. He parked it with, wait for it, Bernie Madoff, whose accounts at that point were printing steady 12% returns like clockwork.
Talkin2Todd: Borrow at eight, compound at 12, keep the spread. That was the plan.
Todd: I mean, those returns, i mean, those are just going up and up and up, like almost like the side of a a pyramid.
Talkin2Todd: Yes, yes, that's exactly what that,
Todd: Yeah, that's kind of like a pyramid shape. Yeah.
Talkin2Todd: Yes, yes. One analyst reverse engineered this and found a second punchline hiding inside the first. At 12%, the 5.9 million grows to roughly 8.5 million before Bobby's opening check clears.
Talkin2Todd: From there, the Mets pocket the four-point gap at about $236,000 year.
Talkin2Todd: the spread lands on the buyout amount almost to the dollar. So
Talkin2Todd: as long as as long as everything plays out right, they're not making any money, but they're not losing any money. Except as we know, yes, Ponzi scheme. So the compounding never happened. Wilpon and his circle,
Talkin2Todd: were part of the 483 Madoff accounts that lost hundreds of millions of dollars. And yeah, the contract, however, was a real liability with nothing to back it up.
Talkin2Todd: So while the math was sound, there you are.
Todd: I look back at that now and I think they owed him, they owed him what, five? You said five and a half million, something like that?
Talkin2Todd: $5.9 million. No,
Todd: Okay, they owed him $6 million. dollars That doesn't even get you a starting player at this point for a season. Like... like
Talkin2Todd: no no not really. Not a good one. i mean, here's the thing. It does if you're the Royals. If you're the Royals, it gets you three or four of them.
Todd: And if you're the A's, it gets you an entire team, plus the t-shirts that says, welcome to Sacramento. But anyway.
Todd: but But good on you, Bobby.
Talkin2Todd: the o yep One other thing, I don't i don't know, that we hate we don't think we had this on our rundown, but I would be remiss if we didn't note that the Tour de France starts today.
Todd: Yes, it does. Also, I believe, and funny you should mention that, I believe it started in Barcelona today.
Talkin2Todd: Oh, well, what's-his-name could have just stuck around and watched that.
Todd: Yeah, exactly. Here's thing, he probably didn't even know it was coming because he didn't have his phone to see what what sporting events were happening.
Talkin2Todd: Look both ways before you step into the street because the bikes are coming right through.
Todd: and this is a this There's a lot of really fast cyclists in this town. This is weird.
Talkin2Todd: So I think that's all I had. Did we have any do we have any construction updates? Do I need to play that theme?
Todd: Well, play the theme and then ask the question.
Talkin2Todd: So did we?
Todd: No.
Talkin2Todd: Me either.
Todd: But you got to do it in the right order. we We can't go into updates without the theme song playing.
Talkin2Todd: mr bats This is what we get for not doing a proper, this is what we get for not doing a proper pre-show.
Todd: that's just That's just the rules.
Talkin2Todd: We're trying to get, and we're trying to hurry here, trying to get this squeezed in before you go have fish eat your feet or I don't know what the hell you're doing.
Todd: Yeah. Yeah.
Talkin2Todd: Anyway, no, not that.
Todd: Nope, not that.
Talkin2Todd: Okay.
Todd: Nope. Nope. No. No, your your project's wrapped up. All of my projects wrapped up. We're working on getting bids for the next phase, but there's there's nothing else to report at this point. So...
Todd: On the other hand, we are happy if toddlers, if you are in the middle of a home renovation project or considering a home renovation project and would like to send us weekly updates as to what you're working on we're more than happy.
Talkin2Todd: Cool.
Todd: Dwayne's gone to the trouble of putting this, putting together that. It's not really a theme song. It's more of a, what are they? a stinger or something, an audio clip. It's on the board. It's on the soundboard and that's a limited amount of space. So if you've got anything, send it in because it's still on the soundboard.
Talkin2Todd: Yeah, until it's not.
Talkin2Todd: You know what else is on the soundboard?
Todd: Although, oh, wait, wait, one more thing.
Talkin2Todd: Yeah, yes.
Todd: I will say this. What's really funny, though, is one of the things that we had done as part of the doing some electrical work is we had the electric car charger put in. We had an electric car charger put in our garage because we've been charging the car off of a 110 outlet, which is fine.
Todd: Basically, the amount that we use for the day
Talkin2Todd: No, it's not. No, no no no it's not. No, it's not fine.
Todd: o Well, no, basic but but basically the amount of energy that we use that I use for the day of going back and forth to work can be put in overnight in the car.
Talkin2Todd: I mean.
Todd: So the car can't ever get ahead, but it doesn't fall behind.
Talkin2Todd: Oh.
Talkin2Todd: Oh, okay.
Todd: But we put a nice car charger in and and use that. And now it's a level two charger. By the way, do you do do you know what a you know a level two charger, you know, kind of wiring it you a level two charger needs?
Talkin2Todd: 220, 221, whatever it takes.
Todd: No, it actually needs 220. It does not need 221.
Talkin2Todd: oh okay. not
Todd: 221 would be a problem.
Talkin2Todd: Not 221. It's
Todd: It's 220.
Talkin2Todd: exactly 220. Okay. Okay.
Todd: Yeah, yeah. So anyway, yes, we did run some 220. So anyway, yeah.
Talkin2Todd: Okay. Nice.
Todd: What else is on the soundboard, by the way?
Talkin2Todd: That's right. It's time for Todd ought to know a visual Todd ought know this week. Todd, I'm going to send you a picture.
Todd: All right. I am looking at, okay. So I'm looking at a picture of, uh, great, great Britain.
Todd: Uh, there's six of them with different countries colored, uh, in different. some there's some of the countries are white, red, blue,
Todd: green, uh, orange, and there's different, I'm assuming this is here's the same land masses, uh, based off of these colors. What do you call this thing?
Talkin2Todd: So, yes, basically, but it is, this is the same landmass. And it's all of the island of Ireland and all of the island that is England, Scotland, and Wales.
Talkin2Todd: Right. So, and note the the little island, that the little tiny island, Isle of Man that sits in between.
Todd: Yep.
Todd: The Isle of Man. That's the Isle of Man. Yep.
Talkin2Todd: Yep. So the question for you is, in what can these represent, because this is World Cup, we're in the middle of World Cup, one of these six represents the how all of these countries, how many countries are in this country?
Todd: Okay. Yep.
Todd: Four.
Talkin2Todd: How all of these countries divide themselves up or put themselves together for what sport?
Todd: But there's, yeah.
Todd: Oh my goodness. Okay. Oh boy.
Talkin2Todd: So let's start.
Todd: Yeah. Yep.
Talkin2Todd: So there are six of them.
Todd: Yep.
Talkin2Todd: And the most complex is in the top left corner. And the most together, I suppose, well, there's a couple of them that are kind of together down in the bottom. The bottom the bottom three are are are less divided.
Todd: Okay, so this is, by the way, this is great podcasting. It is not, but we'll we'll try to walk through it.
Talkin2Todd: yeah Right, it's not, but we're going to, yes.
Todd: Okay, okay, so what do you which one do you want me to you want me to start tackling where?
Talkin2Todd: Well, if, so you know what, look at the six of those and tell me which one of them is how things line up for World Cup, since we're in the middle of World Cup.
Todd: Yeah.
Todd: Okay, so just so I'm going to describe one of these just so that everybody's clear. So the first one has England as a separate country, Wales as a separate country, Scotland with the Isle of Man as a separate country, Northern Ireland as a separate country, and Ireland as a separate country.
Todd: So that...
Todd: Okay. And then, and then as we go through, there's different versions. The next version is England separate whales. That is the, same, but the Isle of man is part of England instead of part of Scotland.
Todd: Then there's a map that England, Scotland, and whales are separate, but Northern Ireland and Ireland are together. And then there's Ireland's altogether and England, Scotland, and Wales are all together. And then there's one, geez,
Todd: This is nuts. I don't understand how anybody...
Talkin2Todd: right I looked at this and went, wait, how does how does how does anybody know what team they play for?
Todd: Okay, so...
Todd: it depends And what you're telling me is it depends on the sport.
Talkin2Todd: It depends on the sport or the series of games.
Todd: Okay. I am assuming... Okay, so between the first two, the only difference between those first two... is Is the Isle of Man either part of Scotland or part of England?
Talkin2Todd: Yes.
Talkin2Todd: Correct.
Talkin2Todd: Correct.
Todd: I believe that it's one of those two is for World Cup because I believe Wales has its own team, Scotland. I mean, at least for qualifying. And I believe that Northern Ireland has a separate qualification than Ireland.
Todd: So... I'm going to say the first one is World Cup and that the Isle of Man yeah aligns its soccer fortunes with Scotland.
Talkin2Todd: You are not correct.
Todd: Shocker.
Talkin2Todd: But you were close because it was the other one.
Todd: It's the other one. So the Isle of Man is part of England.
Talkin2Todd: The other man is part of England for football.
Todd: Okay.
Talkin2Todd: so So then the second question then, Todd.
Todd: Yeah. Yeah. What is the first one cover?
Talkin2Todd: What's the first one? Right.
Todd: Then I would say rugby.
Talkin2Todd: Not correct. Good guess. Not correct.
Todd: But I was confident.
Talkin2Todd: you were You were confident with your guess.
Todd: Olympic sports.
Talkin2Todd: Not correct. That is on this map.
Todd: This is going to be bad.
Talkin2Todd: But that is not correct.
Todd: All right. Okay.
Talkin2Todd: that is That's actually the bottom middle one. I'll give you that. Since you came up with Olympics.
Todd: olymp olympics is the bottom middle so it is oh yes because it's oh i should know that because it's team gb should have known that
Talkin2Todd: Yep. And rugby...
Talkin2Todd: Yeah, and rugby is top right.
Todd: top right, which is England separate, wall England and Aleman, Wales separate, Scotland separate, but Ireland competes under unified Ireland with Northern Ireland and Ireland competing together.
Talkin2Todd: All of.
Talkin2Todd: All together, yes.
Todd: All together now? Okay.
Todd: So we've covered football, we've covered Olympics, we've covered rugby.
Talkin2Todd: Yep. Yep. Correct.
Todd: I don't think there's a World Cup of Darts. Actually, there probably is, but I don't know that this comes into it probably just comes into play here.
Talkin2Todd: There probably is, but I don't have a map for that.
Todd: i am unclear what that first one is.
Talkin2Todd: The first one is the Commonwealth Games.
Todd: Gotta be honest, wasn't one that I considered. Commonwealth Games.
Talkin2Todd: was was not on your list.
Todd: Got it.
Talkin2Todd: Yep, Commonwealth Games.
Todd: Oh, I should have figured that out, though.
Talkin2Todd: yep
Todd: I just thought that these were random colors. But in the... But Ireland is black, not because that is a color, but because Ireland doesn't compete in the Commonwealth Games.
Talkin2Todd: In the Commonwealth Games. Very good. Great deduction, Todd.
Todd: Oh, see, I just assumed that they ran out of colors, but that's that's an exclusion. Oh, shoot, I've had to figure that out.
Talkin2Todd: That's intentional.
Todd: Okay, yeah. Okay, so the first one's Commonwealth Games. The next one is World Cup football. Then you got rugby. Okay, then we've got one down at the bottom where Wales, England, and Scotland, and Isle of Man are all together, and Ireland is all together.
Talkin2Todd: Yes.
Talkin2Todd: Yes.
Todd: Uh... competitive rowing?
Talkin2Todd: That's tennis.
Todd: Okay.
Talkin2Todd: Yep, that was my response too.
Todd: It, in what, in what, but,
Talkin2Todd: I'm like, there a...
Todd: here's my thought.
Talkin2Todd: Yep, that's why I brought this. Nope.
Todd: Tennis, people compete individually and it doesn't matter where you're from unless you're from, let's say for a couple of years from Russia, where then you can't play or you have to play under whatever.
Todd: The tennis that I'm aware of that it matters where you are from is under the Olympics. So this would have to be like, is this like some version of like the Solheim cup or the writer cup for tennis? Yeah.
Talkin2Todd: i i I didn't dig. i just found the map.
Todd: I just confused you, Todd, but I'm not giving you any answers. Okay, cool. All right.
Talkin2Todd: Yep.
Todd: And then, okay, and then the middle one's the Olympics. And then the last one is, so, yeah.
Talkin2Todd: Yep. Yep. Can you name the last one? Is ire Ireland all together? Scotland by itself.
Todd: Yeah.
Talkin2Todd: Wales, England, and Isle of Man together.
Todd: I mean, I know that this this might be a, I think, I don't think this is what you're looking for. I think this might be a proposal of how to fix Brexit.
Talkin2Todd: It's It's not wrong.
Todd: Scotland wants to leave and the Northern Ireland thing is a problem. So screw it. Just everybody leave. And Wales is like, what about us? And like, where are you going to go? They're like, never mind. Okay.
Todd: Okay. All right, okay, so one of them was tennis. You know what I'm gonna say billiards. No, sorry, wait, snooker, snooker.
Talkin2Todd: wait
Todd: World Cup snooker.
Talkin2Todd: World Cup, and you're you're wrong on on both counts.
Todd: Okay.
Talkin2Todd: But I'm going to say it took balls to come up with that answer.
Todd: Oh, geez.
Todd: What's the last one?
Talkin2Todd: Cricket. The last one is cricket.
Todd: You know, now that I was coming up with snooker because I thought, uh, cricket actually, now I'm just, I'm disappointed in myself that I didn't think of cricket and use that one.
Talkin2Todd: I'm... Right, that you didn't come up with because because, I mean, it is a national sport. It's an international competition of, yeah. So anyway, something that Todd ought to know for a World Cup week, who plays where and why. No, not why. we don't We still don't know why, but we do know who plays where.
Todd: Yes. Yeah.
Talkin2Todd: Welcome.
Talkin2Todd: should we do Should we do some idiots?
Todd: Sure, sure.
Talkin2Todd: time for the Time for the Scott Frost Memorial Idiot of the Week.
Todd: Absolutely. So one of the reasons why we're recording a little later today is earlier today, Lisa and I decided, oh, we should just, we let's just go look at some cars. Let's just go look at, maybe maybe we maybe we should look at a car.
Todd: Lisa's like, let's go look. I'm like, okay, we so we went and looked. And then it was like, yeah, maybe maybe we should test drive the car. Let's see what, anyway, so we bought a car today. And as a part of the process, we're to,
Todd: So you got to go through the whole thing where the salesperson's got to go into the big glass booth and then come out with the, with the price. And then you're like, yeah, Lisa's like, yeah, I think you can do better than that.
Todd: Well, let me go find out. Yeah. They come back and I shaved little bit of money off. Okay, fine. Whatever. Agree to buy the car, you got to do all the things, then you got to wait, and then you got to go into the finance guy because the finance guy has got to then sell you all the other stuff.
Todd: And so there was a you have the conversation about, do you do you need the do you need the protectant? No, don't need the protectant. Okay. well Do you need the extended warranty? Salesperson, these cars are amazing.
Todd: They never break down. And they have a, it's a Hyundai, has an amazing warranty. You agree to buy it. You know, these things are really expensive to fix. And, you know, you never know what's going to go out.
Todd: Like, I mean, geez, this is, I mean, they barely, they barely stick together when you drive it off the lot.
Talkin2Todd: Thank
Todd: Okay, that's fine. Have that conversation. Then there's the, would you like to prepay for maintenance? Like, well, he's like, you know, oil changes, your registration fees, tire rotation.
Todd: OK, so he tells me how much it's going to be divided by the number. I'm like, oh, that's like 200 bucks a year. I'm like, oh, it's a question. He's like, does so you say maintenance, the service, there's service warranty. there this you know Every 7,500 miles, you got to get the oil changed. and Then there's something at 15,000 and then at 30,000 and then at 45,000.
Todd: does it Does it cover all the maintenance in those years? What? No, no, no, no. Just oil changes and tire rotation and your registration inspections.
Todd: Okay, but but what about the maintenance? Yeah, it doesn't cover the maintenance. So the extended maintenance plan doesn't cover the maintenance. Not that maintenance. That's different maintenance. If you want, I can give you a quote on that.
Todd: That's more. Anyway, I'm not sure.
Talkin2Todd: That would be the extended, the extended, extended maintenance.
Todd: Extend. Yeah. Extended squared maintenance.
Talkin2Todd: It sounds to me.
Todd: Or given given given given the way that everything works on in streaming, that's extended maintenance plus.
Talkin2Todd: It sounds to me like the finance guy is only interested in improving the finances of the dealership.
Todd: Apparently, yes. Yeah. there was There was a lot of... Yeah. And then we had to decline it, and then we went back and had to decline it again, and then had to decline it one more time.
Todd: So anyway, look, that's the guy's job. That's what he gets paid to do. That's... the Who's the idiot here? Well, first of all, us for going to a dealer to buy a car. But second, the entire and system that everybody just plays along. Is this the right way to to sell cars? This is not the right way to sell cars. But is what we have? Yeah. Who's going to change it?
Todd: Anyway, I'm looking forward to my extended, extended maintenance. we We turned everything down. We just turned everything down. I don't, that's fine. I'll, I'll pay for it. Yes. I understand this car barely works and we'll need maintenance and oil all the time. We'll still buy it.
Todd: So anyway, that's a, that was my idea of the week. How about you?
Talkin2Todd: So this story, there's a new app in South Korea to let you order food.
Todd: Okay. Hello.
Talkin2Todd: So if you've ever spent Dateline Seoul,
Todd: hello
Talkin2Todd: if you've ever spent 20 minutes scrolling through a food delivery app only to close it without ordering, South Korea's latest viral app may have been made for you. It's called Food Never Comes.
Talkin2Todd: And the app looks and behaves just like any other takeaway platform. The users can browse restaurant menus, customize their order, enter a delivery address, choose a payment method, and even track a courier.
Talkin2Todd: But nothing is ever cooked, paid for, or delivered.
Talkin2Todd: According to Fast Company, the unusual app is part of a growing wave of South Korean dopamine sites, which are digital platforms designed to recreate the fill thrill of shopping without actually spending a single cent.
Todd: So you're cosplaying ordering food for delivery.
Talkin2Todd: Yes. Yeah. In theory, simply pressing the buy button satisfies your craving, even if no purchase is ever completed. The idea was created by a South Korean developer who said the idea came during one of those nights when I just kept opening and closing delivery apps.
Talkin2Todd: It started as a joke at first, but it was surprisingly satisfying.
Talkin2Todd: Great. So anyway, so what's for dinner? Not Korean food.
Todd: All right, app idea. I thought you were going to go the other direction, which is you put it all in and you scroll through the entire app.
Talkin2Todd: Okay.
Todd: And if you get to the bottom without picking anything, it just randomly picks some food for you and sends it to you. Like, look, dude, I showed you 700 restaurants. If you can't pick your, if you can't make up your mind, you, this probably isn't for you. I will just send over whatever I think is best for you. This is a different take. Wow.
Todd: Oh my God. Do you know what's going to, here's the thing though. Oh geez.
Talkin2Todd: Yes. Yep.
Todd: Here's, Oh, Oh no. Okay, so you've got an app that you can track your food that you didn't order, that they didn't cook, and that they're not delivering.
Talkin2Todd: yep
Todd: Next step in this chain, CalSheet or Polymarket can then take prediction markets on whether the food will arrive on time or not. Okay.
Todd: over, under, on your fake food delivery. That sounds like a Calci kind of thing.
Talkin2Todd: And since you control whether or not it's going to show up or not, you can vote, you can bet no, knowing that it's not going to show up. That's perfect.
Todd: It's a perfect Calci thing where the people who make the decisions can put the bets.
Talkin2Todd: One user compared it to drinking non-alcoholic beer while recovering from alcohol addiction.
Talkin2Todd: You know, I want to buy something, but but but but I really can't buy something. Anyway, my idiot of the week. Apps that order that you can order, but not actually get anything delivered.
Todd: What's even worse is I'll just throw this up. What's even worse is if you got to pay like 590 90, you have to, you have to bring for the app to work. You have to pay a monthly subscription to be in the club.
Talkin2Todd: Yeah.
Talkin2Todd: Otherwise, it will actually deliver the food to you.
Todd: Yeah, if you don't want the food.
Talkin2Todd: You have to pay to have it not, you have to pay to have it not deliver the food.
Todd: It's, it's it's yeah, it's $10.99 a month. Otherwise, we're going to start delivering the food.
Talkin2Todd: Oh, sweet Lord. are you So the what are you watching this week?
Todd: lot of World Cup, just lot of World Cup. None of the World Cup halftime shows. Not doing that, but the actual matches. I've seen a lot of football. Shockingly, I've seen a lot of good football. I've seen some terrible football, but I've seen some pretty good football as well. But it's been it's been mostly World Cup. How about you? What have you what have you been watching?
Talkin2Todd: Also been watching World Cup.
Todd: Okay. All right.
Talkin2Todd: Also been watching World Cup. Yep. Some, yeah, some fantastic games. And I mean, day one was two to PK shootouts. Just really excited. The the England comeback, not expected. Fantastic. I mean, it's just, it's been some really, really great games.
Todd: i don't know if you saw I don't know if you saw the Belgian comeback. 86th minute, they were down 2-0.
Talkin2Todd: Yes, saw that.
Todd: Tied it, took it into extra time, and then won 3-2 in extra time and didn't even have to go to penalties.
Talkin2Todd: Yep.
Todd: Saving a little late. Hey, guys. Drama drama Queen's here. like let's can we Can we just like maybe spread the scoring out a little bit?
Talkin2Todd: my I don't know that my heart can take a whole lot more of this. Perhaps, just just just going to throw this out here, maybe score a little earlier. You know, whatever.
Todd: You can take the full 90 minutes to score. Like you don't, but you don't need to wait till the end. So yeah.
Talkin2Todd: I also, did you ever watch The Wire on HBO?
Todd: I did not. I believe Lisa has, but I never, I never watched it. No.
Talkin2Todd: I never watched, we didn't have HBO when it was on originally, and I've just never gone back, but it's one of these shows that people have said, you know, it's like one of the greatest shows ever.
Todd: Okay.
Todd: Top five. Yeah. Yeah.
Talkin2Todd: Top, Ivy-ish, whatever.
Todd: Yeah. In the top 10 list or whatever, it's with the wire's always up there.
Talkin2Todd: Yep.
Todd: Yep.
Talkin2Todd: Yep. but And I never watched it either. And and I'm like, you know what? I'm going to watch this. A, so I started watching it. B, really and I'm really enjoying it.
Talkin2Todd: But C, the technology dates it between flip phones and pagers.
Todd: Yeah.
Talkin2Todd: And then they sat down in front of a computer. and And now i'm going to send you a picture again.
Talkin2Todd: And I'm like, I gotta to take a screenshot of this.
Todd: Okay, so I'm seeing England, Scotland, Wales.
Talkin2Todd: but
Todd: Well, hold on. let me let me Let me scroll. Oh, buddy. Okay, so that's a Gateway 2000 monitor.
Talkin2Todd: The gateway 2000, I'm like, hey, there's the little cow box. I know what that is.
Todd: I'm also pretty sure, though, that that's the exact same image that they had up in the original Jurassic Park right before they shut down the entire system.
Todd: Nice CRT monitor, though. That looks big.
Talkin2Todd: Right? It was, yep. I'm like, oh, okay. yeah Again, the technology is, you know, you got to go back to the early 90s and this kind of thing. But then, like, oh, hey, yep, I recognize that gateway monitor.
Todd: So, so.
Talkin2Todd: Pretty sure i had one of them.
Todd: Right now, if you do period dramas, the way that you show that you're going back in history is by the dress, right? Like you've got the like big skirts and you know frills or whatever.
Talkin2Todd: Uh-huh.
Todd: but But eventually, period dramas will be based on the technology that they have. That's how you show that it's a period drama. It'd be like 100 years from now, Downton Abbey, somebody will be having to source Gateway 2000 computers for the period drama.
Talkin2Todd: Right.
Todd: Yeah.
Talkin2Todd: Just to make sure it looks realistic. Yes.
Todd: Yes. Yeah.
Talkin2Todd: Yep.
Todd: How quaint.
Talkin2Todd: Yep. The thing I learned this week, did i have i told have i i have i talked about short part four on here?
Todd: Yeah.
Todd: no, I don't believe so.
Talkin2Todd: these
Talkin2Todd: this is This is the company that sends me a box of golf clothes every month.
Todd: Okay.
Talkin2Todd: It's subscription box, like Stitch stitch Fix.
Todd: Stitch fix, sticks, but for golf.
Talkin2Todd: Yeah. But for golf, exactly. That kind of thing. And I've done this for several years now. and Every month, you know, I give them 50 bucks and they send me, I don't know, $150 worth of stuff.
Talkin2Todd: In fact, the shirt that I'm wearing right now, among other things.
Todd: the one covered with The one covered with golf bag pictures and other golf.
Talkin2Todd: But it's
Talkin2Todd: With golf stuff.
Todd: Yeah, that makes sense.
Talkin2Todd: Yes.
Todd: That tracks.
Talkin2Todd: Yeah.
Todd: Okay.
Talkin2Todd: Right. Yep. That tracks. This a Ryder Cup shirt, actually.
Todd: Oh.
Talkin2Todd: But belt, shorts, pants, shoes, golf glove, whatever. Just a smattering of whatever.
Todd: Whatever's in the warehouse that month.
Talkin2Todd: Anyway. Exactly. And they buy it in bulk and then pass the savings on. And, and you know, and i I let them pick it out. I mean, some of these services, you go and pick out what you think you want and they send it to you.
Todd: Yep.
Talkin2Todd: This is they curate it. And so it's a surprise for me every month when I open it. Last month, my May box didn't show up until like the last week of May.
Talkin2Todd: I'm like, huh, well that's kind of odd, but you know, whatever.
Todd: Okay.
Talkin2Todd: Things are, things are slow. My June box hadn't shown up, hadn't shown up, hadn't shown up. On the 26th of June, I get an email from Short Par 4 saying, hey, we've missed you with the last couple of boxes.
Talkin2Todd: Do you want to restart your subscription? I'm like, well, that doesn't seem right. So then I go and I log in. Yeah, my subscription is still active, but
Todd: You're charging me.
Talkin2Todd: you're and And you're charging me and you charged me on June 1.
Todd: Okay.
Talkin2Todd: But the package says unfulfilled. Well, that seems kind of strange. So then I start doing a little bit of internet research. On June 2, they had declared bankruptcy.
Todd: Oh, okay. okay
Talkin2Todd: At which point, given the industry that I am in, I start doing a little bit more research and start reading some of the filings and then contacting one of my sales people. Hey, with actually,
Talkin2Todd: I wonder if there's any business in this for us.
Talkin2Todd: is there any Is there anything we can do? Are there any mailings? Do they need do they need us to process anything? is there Is there any support services we can provide? He's like, no. At this point, that it's it's long gone.
Talkin2Todd: Have you canceled your subscription yet? That would be the next thing that I did so that they didn't charge me on July 1. So the thing that I learned this week is this subscription service that I've had for years, no longer a thing.
Talkin2Todd: Uh-huh.
Todd: On the other hand, I'm just going honest, at least their website was up to date enough because, I mean, realistically, your June box was, you were unfulfilled with what they sent you.
Talkin2Todd: I was definitely unfulfilled.
Todd: That wasn't the status of shipping.
Talkin2Todd: That's absolutely...
Todd: That was your status, unfulfilled.
Talkin2Todd: And it was accurate.
Todd: yeah
Talkin2Todd: How about you? What did you learn this week?
Todd: So we we came down for the for the holiday weekend, came down to the Disclose on Disclose location. i i have I have a Mac Mini down here, and it's got some external hard drives because the Mac Mini doesn't have much internal storage.
Todd: And I had noticed I had been, i had been i had remoted into this from Salt Lake City, and one of the hard drives that has, some media and stuff on it wasn't wasn't mounted. And I was like, that's weird. And I was trying to remotely, I was trying to get it mounted so I could get some files off of it and just wouldn't mount it, wouldn't mount it. I'm like, okay, that's really weird. Now I'll figure it out. So get down here and get on it. And like, yep, still doesn't, matter oh, you know what I'll just, I'll reboot the computer. I'll reboot the computer. It'll bring it back. Nope. That's weird. Okay. Going to disk utility, try to mount it. Nope. Doesn't work. Okay. I'll run disk first aid. Disk first aid starts and then immediately fails and says, you should back up all files on this.
Todd: Well, you can't back up the files to be camp mounted. Like what it needs to say is what it needs to say is you should have backed up the files on it.
Talkin2Todd: If you can't... my
Todd: Like that's actually.
Talkin2Todd: I sure hope...
Todd: Yeah.
Talkin2Todd: i the The warning that pops up is, boy, I sure hope you you backed up all of those files.
Todd: Yeah. Yeah. were you looking for files that formerly lived here? Wait, what?
Todd: So the good news is, so i do have I have an online backup service. So everything's backed up. Don't need to worry about it. The downside is the backup service that I use called Backblaze. If you, any external hard drives, you have to check in once every 30 days.
Todd: That hard drive has to basically check in every 30 days to say that it's still an active thing because it's an unlimited plan. So what they don't want you to do is backup all of your friends hard drives. So every 30 days has to check in. I look, it's like, this was last seen 14 days ago. Okay. So 14 days ago it was working and then it must've died.
Talkin2Todd: Thank
Todd: And now I can't bring the drive back. Okay. And I'm like, okay, I've got some, it's it's a four terabyte SSD drive that I bought a couple of years ago, probably during probably during black Friday, probably paid like for this thing on a Black Friday sale, something like that.
Todd: like, okay, I've got a couple of other smaller ones that would fit. Oh, they're not here. They're up in Salt Lake. Oh, okay, fine. And Lisa's like, are going have to go buy you another drive? And I'm like, yeah, i don't I don't think we should do that. She goes, why not? And I looked.
Todd: So, Dwayne, probably two years ago, two years ago on a Prime prime Day or Black Friday, I would have paid about $180. This is a Samsung external four terabyte SSD drive.
Todd: Do you know how much it costs to replace that now?
Talkin2Todd: $300? No, get $500? Sweet lord.
Todd: You're a little low.
Talkin2Todd: no get out
Todd: You're low.
Talkin2Todd: five hundred dollars
Todd: To buy the same model today from Amazon is $1,000.
Talkin2Todd: sweet lord
Todd: When Apple raised its prices because storage and memory costs are going up, everybody's raising their prices. But in two years, this has gone from $200
Todd: To $1,000. Lisa, lisa we're gonna yeah we need to go buy you a new one? Nope, why not? It's $1,000.
Talkin2Todd: so
Todd: You're correct. We are not buying you a new one. So what did I learn this week?
Talkin2Todd: Things are tough all over.
Todd: Hopefully, hopefully what I've learned is I need to, first of all, I've got like gold sitting on my desk. Second of all, it's important that the other hard drive that I have not fail because eventually I can't replace any of these things. And third, this is stupid. Like this is just stupid. Anyway, that's what I learned. $1,000. Yeah,
Todd: yeah I'm sure this will pass in a couple of years.
Talkin2Todd: The music is happy boy by Kevin McCloud. You can subscribe to our award-winning podcast with visiting tech expert, Todd Prince, wherever you get your pods.
Todd: How much is that? No, no, no, no, no. no no no no no no i You know what? I can probably fix it myself. How hard is this? I know. Give me a soldering iron. I should be able to. Is that how this works? Is anything that? No. Okay.
Talkin2Todd: Just make sure you're grounded before you break into that.
Todd: I am somebody. I have value. There. I am crowded. Let's do some electronics.
Talkin2Todd: That was where I was hoping you would go with that. Yep. Perfect. Excellent. You can stop by and see us at the Tuba City Home Office. Please don't do that. Did I say that you can find us by searching for Talkin and the number two?
Talkin2Todd: there's no There's no G in no space.
Todd: Oh, I don't think yet. But there you go. Now you said it. There you go. yeah
Talkin2Todd: No. Okay. Okay. Todd, quick question, little little business meeting.
Todd: Yeah. Yeah.
Talkin2Todd: Can they find our website by going to TalkinToTodd.com?
Todd: Yeah. Okay. Fun fact. Real quick.
Talkin2Todd: Yes, yes, uh-huh.
Todd: If you go to talkingtotod.com, good news.
Talkin2Todd: Uh-huh, yeah.
Todd: good Good news, bad news thing. Good news. You're not going to go to our old Podbean site.
Talkin2Todd: Uh-huh, yeah.
Todd: That is amazing.
Talkin2Todd: Okay, well, that's good. Okay.
Todd: Yeah. Bad news.
Talkin2Todd: So you did you did something.
Todd: You don't go.
Talkin2Todd: Yes. Oh.
Todd: Yeah. Well, I did something, but you don't go anywhere because, can't figure out how to get it to the new site.
Talkin2Todd: Oh.
Todd: So, so, yeah, yeah. We disconnected from the old one, but the new one isn't working yet.
Todd: So yeah.
Talkin2Todd: Okay. Well, you know. So if you want to find us, living on a prayer, baby.
Todd: Halfway there. Half, halfway there.
Talkin2Todd: That's coming up next week. so So if you want to find us on the internet, what you do is you go to Google.

Todd: That's an excellent question. It should. i didn't touch that.
Talkin2Todd: a i hope i I hope you can send us your feedback at feedback at talkingtotod.com.
Todd: i don't I don't think I did.
Talkin2Todd: Todd?
Todd: So I'm guessing at the iCubs game, the one that Greg Abel threw the first pitch out at, I'm guessing they weren't serving any snow cones.
Talkin2Todd: I don't know why.
Todd: Because they were swearing in New Citizens, so I'm assuming there was no ice in the stadium.
Talkin2Todd: is
Talkin2Todd: So bad. that's odd that's that's doingne That's Dwayne level bad is what that is.
Todd: You're welcome. I'm a professional.
Talkin2Todd: my God, I'm sure we're going to, I thought it was going to be because they weren't, I thought it was because they were un-American and they didn't believe in apple pie or mom or snow cones. I thought that's where that joke was going.
Todd: Fun fact, the original version of that in my head said there was no slushies.
Talkin2Todd: Yes.
Todd: And then I thought if I use snow cone, I'll send him off the track. What are you, a communist? So see, yes, i you fell into it.
Talkin2Todd: I did. Yes, I did. It's probably something we're going to have to clean up next week. Until then, we're here. We're talking to Todd.
Todd: Sorry, didn't didn't mean to break the podcast there. It's...
Todd: I mean, at least could have told you had the other three ready to go, but you know, whatever it is. It is July 4th after all.
Talkin2Todd: Did that? Hey, there it is gave I gave two thumbs up, and we got fireworks in the background. graph so
Todd: Yeah, but we're not sure if that's because Apple did it or that was the final death throes of Zencaster before it goes offline permanently.
Talkin2Todd: Did they wait? Did they declare bankruptcy?
