How do we speak to your master? You have to touch me in some way.

Introduction of 'A Feather Ship at the Tabletop'

00:00:30
Speaker
Hello and welcome to this week's episode of A Feather Ship at the Tabletop. We are a live play 5e D&D podcast set in the magical world of Aerith. My name is Mark, I am the Dungeon Master and also with us for today's episode we have Ian who plays the Dragonborn Barbarian, Prago. What up? Dara who plays the human fighter, Rogue Robin. Take a breath.
00:00:50
Speaker
I needed that. Danny who plays the human cleric Claude. Bonjour. Je suis Claude. Je suis. I go to Claude. Ah, yeah. Je m'appelle. No, no, no, no. It's your 10th. Oh, I'm struggling with my words. C'est beur. That is je suis. It's je m'appelle, isn't it? Je m'appelle. But I am is je suis. Je suis. Thank you. I fucked with you.
00:01:15
Speaker
Who plays the wood elf monk Elthea? I love D&D! I love the list of the dice box, baby! Recently watched The Rocker Ages. That makes sense. And Callum, who plays the gnome sorcerer Folly Fizzlebank the 9th. Hello, hello. Hello, Mike. Excelsior.
00:01:33
Speaker
I will never say it again. I get criticized for everything. I like your introductions, can't I? Listen to them. I think you should close your eyes more.
00:01:47
Speaker
I wonder how many lawsuits I can get against me while we're doing this. There must be a critical role one that you can use. Is it Thursday yet? How do you want to do this? It's funny. And there is plenty to begin with. I'm Folly, Fizzle Bang, The Brave. There's all sorts. I'm sure I could make it. I'll just go with I'm Batman. I'm Folly. I'm Folly, yeah. I'm Folly. Hey, don't take my voice again. Let's just get that different. That would be so cool if you had a gnome that spoke like that of a Christian Bale's Batman.
00:02:16
Speaker
Swear to me. And then all of a sudden Drago has the Bane mask. Oh shit. Oh that's my thing. I didn't have his Bane mask. Oh you think that? I can't have it without them. It was a good acapella choice though. Thank you. Segue aside, thank you so much for joining us on today's episode of the Fellowship of the Tabletop.
00:02:37
Speaker
We are here to tell a story, I think. We hope so. What did we do last week? Well, funny you would ask that because I was about to regale you with the story of last week. We left. Bleakmoor. No, I have to say. We left. We left. That was hit by us. It pretty much was. We had a good run.

The Bleakmoor Escape and Fey Encounter

00:02:58
Speaker
We left the town of Bleakmoor after it had been ravaged by the emberscarp blight that came across its walls. No, fuck's sake.
00:03:08
Speaker
And eventually we got a cart, we had talked for a series of time with Arc Ward. She had agreed that we take a cart across to Evershire in order to facilitate the passing of some goods there and also to visit a very specific armory. We took out across the road, quiet, we hit the forest, it was dark, it was gloomy and there was no sound for what seemed like hours and hours.
00:03:35
Speaker
Eventually we came across a single half-elf man that was stood in the centre of what seemed like an internal meadow. Bryant patches of grass adorning the space. He had a table item which seemed to be playing with liquids and potions. Foley Fizzlebank the 9th seemed to help him in some degree. Upon his little altercation, the potion was knocked and a void seemed to appear.
00:04:06
Speaker
realm upon which a series of fey creatures came out of the portal to Hippogriffs and what is referred to as a yuki on that emerged from the fey realm. The party then had to defend themselves from this after fighting off this necrotic force which seemed to attack them from the explosion. The man, the elf man who was there who had caused the problem of the potion was literally disintegrated to almost a skeleton.

Potion Recovery and Alchemical Concerns

00:04:36
Speaker
A long battle ensued, but eventually the party was victorious. This was the first time that the party came across flying creatures as well, which added another layer to those creatures who are martial and involve being in close combat. However, a number of the characters managed to really excel, albeit those that are at range, Sir Robin and Folly Fizz about the 9th. I mean, you say excel, I did fail every battle manoeuvre I tried. However, this guy was like a utility belt of walking trees and making Drago fast and...
00:05:04
Speaker
I do what I can. You did, you gave me haste. I did, which also gave you a second attack. And I gave it to Claude at the same time. Upon the battle ending, haste is on members of the party. We also recovered a series of stock magic potions, stock magic being that very specific form of magica and arcana that was adorned to everyone across the realm of Aerith. This man was playing with some of those elements, so it's very, very volatile.
00:05:37
Speaker
recovered an exhausting haste, a summer's wrath and an oil of sharpness along with the instructions on how to brew the potion of movement speed sleeper. Folly took those upon himself as the local alchemist. We find ourselves at just after midday, about two o'clock in the afternoon, there's clouds that have come over the meadow that you currently find yourselves in. You're about
00:06:01
Speaker
A hundred feet away from the other side which you're heading which is kind of a southwesterly location to find, to carry on with the path back into the forest. The burning wreckage of his cart has stopped smoldering through the intense battle that's taken place. Silence returns to the forest lands again. What would you like to do?
00:06:29
Speaker
I don't know. I'm... You seem to have opened it. It wasn't me. It was the stuff he was using. But you went over there and helped him and all of a sudden a rift appeared.

Corrupted Magic and Moral Dilemmas

00:06:41
Speaker
It's like an alchemist's code. We do help each other and we do learn from each other, but he's... That's the code? He has very corrupted use of what he knows. It's the bad side of magic.
00:06:55
Speaker
Pure magic is good. You don't need to tell me that's the bad side of magic. He's eviscerated. So what you've learned from that is that he's dead. He's very dead, yes. He is very dead, as he has a right to be. Quite a learning curve on your alchemy then. Alchemy can be a pure magic if you can do it right. He was doing it wrong and he was using it for the wrong reasons. He deserved what got to it. I've seen a lot of magic. I can tell you that wasn't pure. No.
00:07:22
Speaker
No, Drago, that wasn't pure. Do your magical bottles do nasty things like that? While this is happening, I'm just going around and trying to recover as many arrows as I can. Unfortunately, as you go to recover a lot of the arrows, the arrows have all went into the head.
00:07:42
Speaker
They went in, but unfortunately when Folly lit them up, the arrows also burnt down. So a few of those arrows were unattainable. However, the arrows that were fired into the lady were, you managed to attain them back. And I'll tell you how those arrows, if you have five arrows, you've recovered from them. Okay? Sorry, Folly, you were in the middle of a conversation. Yeah, well, what you see there, Truggo, this...
00:08:04
Speaker
A person who tried to summon these creatures and those undead beings as we fought way back when, I have theories that they're all stemming from a corrupt magic. Right. I have no issues against Claude and his master, but... I believe that you don't. He will fuck you up. But he tugged a tree and the tree has died. He will fuck you up. The tree died? Died.
00:08:31
Speaker
He hugged a tree, and the tree died. Now, these creeks were moving around and attacking as it wasn't just like... Right, okay. Just to clarify on that conversation. Thank you, Alfie. Very well played. Tree's a tree, he hugged a tree, tree died. His explanation makes more sense, and he points to Alfie here when he says that. Robin, when we was back in the previous town, you woke up in the morning, and you said that my room smelled softer. I recall saying that, and I thought, thank you. She's a tough old bitch, Ben. Well, pardon, thank you.
00:09:01
Speaker
Shame about the hypocrite, a stable burn. Sorry for that, but they seem more of a threat than what your arrows were. Good silver. As he pulls some of the arrows out of the cap and grind, the noise is, as I said, maybe something more insidious if I want to clear that out. While they're chatting, Elph is going to go over to Talia.
00:09:21
Speaker
and check that she's all right. She's at the back of the group, kind of overseeing the situation. Yeah, he just teaches me, you're all right, and again. Yeah, I'm fine. Why does this seem to happen everywhere we go? It's as if danger follows us, or we follow danger. Could be, either. Why did your room smell of sulfur? It wasn't quite the sulfur, but what he smelled was, in essence, the smell of death.
00:09:49
Speaker
Wait, the smell of death is probably everything. I believe the smell of death normally is shit.
00:09:55
Speaker
fluids. Sometimes it's nicer things than that. Carry on, Follier. Everybody has their own thing, but this kind of death stems from corrupted magic. It's rather difficult to explain, but I conducted some experiments on this and he pulls out a vial from his jacket that still just has a little bit of the black oozing that he took from the creature. The drago would probably recognize it because he pointed out to
00:10:25
Speaker
falling when he was basically scraping it all off and pouring it in. And this was in Bleakmore, was it? This was in Bleakmore, this was at the defence of Bleakmore, yeah.
00:10:34
Speaker
Yes, I did some experiments on this and as far as I can tell this these creatures they come from These undead creatures the undead creatures. Yes. Yes quite from the blight from the blight. Yes, um not to put anything on Claude's master down but I believe there is more of a physical presence that is also helping to Manifest these creatures using a corrupted version of a spell

Undead Theories and Magic Sources

00:11:05
Speaker
being? Yes, in this realm. In this realm? In the living realm. Is it you? No, no. Are you the only person to have discovered this? I have no idea. I have no intentions of knowing what the Hailstorm Academy might have already figured out with their own experiments, but this is what I've been able to determine. I mean, I realise I'm not the best of alchemy, even I make mistakes
00:11:37
Speaker
business like we are or have you been aware of this going on? I've been aware of it like Claude. I've been aware of it for some time but this is my first instance in seeing it firsthand. Where are you from? You're not from sleep guard are you? No no I'm not from sleep guard.
00:11:59
Speaker
As this conversation starts to take place, the party slowly starts to gather up their supplies, taking in whatever they can from the surroundings. A slight haze of rain begins to fall across the party and across this opening within the Shadowview Forest. You manage to write your car with the help of your stronger characters of the party, namely Robin Eltham and Drago.
00:12:26
Speaker
I'll put you in that as well, why not Claude? The car is up, it's a step right, the horses are returned after Bolton and we are ready to depart, to continue this journey through the forest as this conversation seems to be taking place as a light mist of rain begins to fall across the party. Who is going to be sitting on the car? I assume Drago, you will be driving as usual, will anyone choose to sit next to him in
00:12:54
Speaker
I think Folly would certainly see the need to get back up on the car just so we can keep pace with everybody else. As you jump up on the car, because Drago sees that your smaller stature, he turns to you and says, don't ever get ideas about riding me to keep up with the group. With that, Folly turns to Drago and says,
00:13:24
Speaker
Drago, my magic can make you twice as powerful, five times smarter. I could turn you into Toad, I could turn you into a giant. If I wanted to ride you, I would have. Can we hear this? Yeah, I think we've all kind of been in an incentive range, everyone's like that.
00:13:46
Speaker
Visibly sort of like wince a little bit cuz he knows what truck normally does on the reins of the horse And the whole car slows down Robin. Have you respond you've heard this as well. I'm pretty just out in front of him What's Robin doing? I turn and look at it and I just I see what's happening. I've heard what's happening and I just go
00:14:04
Speaker
I called, I would do yourself a turn and just let this happen. Just keep on walking. Something so oddly familiar about this particular situation. Chaga leans in close to folly. Listen here, magic user. Yes? You just caused everything to explode in front of me. I'm gonna keep my eye on you. You've got a pass for now. You think that you can ride me without my authority?
00:14:43
Speaker
Claude, I'm originally at a place called the Sanguine Land. I have learned something about the Sanguine Lands. Okay. We're a bit far away. They are very, very far away, but I'm afraid I've not been back there in years. What are you doing in Sleetguard? I wanted to travel. So you came to Sleetguard?
00:15:08
Speaker
Yes. It's cold and miserable here. And the other way is nothing but death and desolation. I heard there's some nice places. The Hural Empire. They say they've got mountains what sing to you. Do they? Can I do an insight check? On how close? Absolutely.
00:15:32
Speaker
My passive insight is 17. Is he telling the truth? Yeah. In case anyone wants to do some sort of investigation into that claim, I heard a nursery rhyme once about the singing mountain peaks of the Huralim pile. I think we're going to do the same thing. How does that go? Yeah, to the word. I would be interested as well. As would I. I suppose, yeah, I'll join in.
00:16:03
Speaker
Well, what it is, right, is apparently if the wind's blowing in a certain direction, you can hear the voice of your own mother in those mountain peaks. But how does the, er... The next round's normally something quite simple that children can understand, so... It's more of a melody. Oh, go on, man! And I don't know, from what I understand,
00:16:28
Speaker
which isn't much, is that it sounds like the first time you heard your mother speak. So in my case it would be something like... What is that thing? Are you sure that's my son? I don't think that's ours. Excuse me nurse, this is a mistake.
00:16:58
Speaker
But in a very angelic way, of course. But where does the reference to the mountains come in this rhyme? Well, apparently the peaks of the mountains are placed in a way that allow the wind to hit it to a certain... So is this a song that requires an introduction before you sing it then? Because you have to explain the whole mountain. No, if the wind is in a southerly breeze, apparently you hear it. But that must be part of the nursery rhyme. Could you sing the melody? You've always struck me as someone who's quite... So Farley, what are you doing down these parts?
00:17:27
Speaker
or up these paths. We have no idea actually where Schleicher, er, er, the things we land. It's to the east. We are at the west now. Exactly, Claudia, yes. Wait, so you're next to the blind?
00:17:40
Speaker
No, there's many yeasts. There's an east what stops in one minute. An east what stops in one year. And some say you travel west, you'll end up coming back from the east. Ooh. I don't understand that. I like that and Tyler's going to write that down on the blank page of her father's tomb. No, it's west or east. It's one or the other. You don't read a compass and say I'm west east of your house. I wouldn't try and confuse him if I was you.
00:18:10
Speaker
Um, but yeah, the San Greenlands, I've heard certain rumours about these singing mountains and whatnot.

Folly's Background and Pursuit of Pure Magic

00:18:16
Speaker
Yes, in the Feral Empire. Yes, exactly, but the San Greenlands have nothing like that. It's very, almost industrial, like it's... It just wasn't me. I... My kind of magic is more pure. I wanted to get kind of back to nature and the best way to do that is to leave civilisation entirely. So, again, you came to sleep, or...? Oh, did you leave?
00:18:39
Speaker
Who did I leave? In Sanguine. Family, friends, who were you before? For one to leave on his own, which I assume you had did. I most certainly did. Who did you leave? I'm afraid no one.
00:18:52
Speaker
I have no idea who my family was. Sir Holmes Folly Fizzlebang the 8th. It's a very clever question. My name's... Of course. Surprisingly clever, actually. But my name was gifted to me by Miss Hayden. She took me in in the Sanguine Lands. And she was... She was the leader of the Magickarium. She was the one who first gifted me and taught me the ways of magic and alchemy.
00:19:23
Speaker
One could solve it, but not anymore. What's the magic card? Stop asking somebody a goddamn question. Well, you think that... Did you leave because you blew too many things up? No, no, no. I felt... I merely felt there wasn't a place for me there anymore. You had a wanderlust.
00:19:45
Speaker
I suppose one could call it that. The magicarium is basically a distribution. Some of the stock magic that you have seen in the past, for example, from the creatures that have been summoned, they are responsible for maintaining the order of stock magic, as well as its creation and distribution. So you're aware of stock magic? Well, some of stock magic I do use, yes. And its uses? Exactly. So if you're aware of its uses, you're aware of its downfalls?
00:20:16
Speaker
Only certain spells have damnfalls. Sorry, Folly. They don't have stock magic in the Sword Coast Kingdom. Do they not? No. Magic's quite controlled. There are some people that can suffer ill effects, but certainly... There are some people that can suffer ill effects from magic, but that tends to be from lack of training in the Sword Coast. It is quite controlled and it is...
00:20:44
Speaker
well known that the limits of magic are well known to people. We don't have this randomness that stock magic appears to bring into. Stock magic can have a randomness to it as well but only the more kind of powerful things. It is quite similar in this essence where if you have not been properly trained in the ways of stock magic then it could be very very dangerous. Volley, during the battle I watched you send a wall of fire up. What the hell do you need to
00:21:14
Speaker
As powerful as that. Well, distribute it. Share it. For what worth? For joy. Pure magic is, in essence, pure life. Excuse me. What you saw back there was not joy. What you saw back there was not pure magic. And as Folly says that, his eyes, he's looking directly at Drago, and his eyes go jet black. Can you roll a d20, please? Um, Callum.
00:21:46
Speaker
Thank you. What you saw back there was corrupted stock magic not pure not trained wild. These creatures are an abomination
00:22:06
Speaker
of magic. They must not be allowed to persist. By creatures you mean the undead. The undead, anything created by stock magic. Hold on, the undead are created by stock magic. I believe so, yes.
00:22:21
Speaker
Oh. Isn't all stock magic a corruption of your magic? Because when we were in a shop, he told us how he could change a scroll. So I assume that stock magic when it appeared is just a corruption of magic. It depends on the person who creates it. It's magic that I create being who I am is a pure version of stock magic. Go back to the undead and your theory about them being created by stock magic.

Stock Magic and Undead Connection

00:22:45
Speaker
I feel like this is an important point. Why do you think this?
00:22:50
Speaker
Well, it goes back to the ooze that I took from those creatures. The best way to look at it, I reverse engineered. There is a spell, and some people can create stock magic versions of it, but it's incredibly difficult. But there is a spell called True Resurrection. And in essence, what that does, anybody who has been departed before their time can be brought back into this world.
00:23:19
Speaker
These are corrupted versions of that spell. Made by stock magic. Not spellcasting. A spellcaster creating stock magic. I believe he's doing it intentionally. A spellcaster creating stock magic. Created undead.
00:23:34
Speaker
That is my useless dog magic or through the useless bells. I have a different theory. There are many theories about the undead. Mine is correct. Because you must have told me. But you have a theory. I have a theory. I do not know if it is the truth or not, but I believe there is someone, possibly more than one person, who is
00:23:57
Speaker
possibly helping any gestures over to Claude, Claude's rebellious master servants, bring these creatures into the world. Why possibly the creation of portals, rifts and the abuse of magic? There will always be people that will use these situations to their advantage, so that would make sense, especially given the potential power of stock magic. Claude, is your master listening to all of this?
00:24:25
Speaker
What's he think? I will tell you if I get 10 minutes. But I'd like to ask you a question for the fizzle bite and the ninth, but we don't know about the eighth, seventh, sixth, fifth, fourth, third, first, or if I missed one. Those glass bottles in your bag what contain liquids of shiny colours. Yes. Could one of them do what we just saw happen there?
00:24:55
Speaker
If I poke you in the wrong way, could I accidentally cause a lady, pretty lady, to come out of a big circle with two flying griffins? Yeah, do we need to worry about you having something falling over? That's maybe what I'm asking. Hold on, are you gonna set fire to this car? Yeah. Get off the car!
00:25:14
Speaker
I don't want to accidentally tap you on the back and then I'll cause the end of the world, you know what I mean? He does accidentally, Claude has accidentally touched me. I need to touch you to keep alive from time to time. It's quite alright, there's nothing in my backpack that can cause anything like that. My backpack merely consists of simple, beneficial spells. I want you a teacup by the way, I've been waiting for a nice time to give it to you.
00:25:41
Speaker
The teacup, you say? I took a bite out of it because I think you like broken things. Holly, even unsure on this teacup with a bite out of it will still take it in kind. I don't recommend ceramics to anyone around here. How did you learn how to bottle or brew stock magic? This was at the magicarium.
00:26:04
Speaker
They, as they are responsible for the creation and distribution, they like to train the people

Debating Stock Magic Risks

00:26:10
Speaker
who do it. Regrettably, I had no other place. Miss Hayden, the lady who took me in, I was one of her adopted workers. So you left Miss Hayden behind? What made you leave?
00:26:24
Speaker
I just wanted to travel. There was more to the world than what I was seeing in the Sanguine Lands and I wanted to experience it. I felt there was more I could learn and more people I could help. So you could have been making a stock magic spell in your house in Sanguina and it ended up in a shop in Sleetgard. How does that make you feel that your magic is being, for want of a better word, prostituted?
00:26:53
Speaker
My magic has purposes. Yeah. And I only create magic that can be used for purposes I deem acceptable. But none of my magic... Well, we met this lazy guy in Clay Peak selling stock magic potions, and I didn't like him.
00:27:11
Speaker
Now, you did say that you're part of a group that's responsible for the creation and distribution of stock magic. But you said stock magic was a corruption of pure magic. I'm confused about... Do you like it? It is depending on who creates it. Stock magic has uncontrollable effects as far as we've seen.
00:27:32
Speaker
Not all. And it's not all corrupt. It's not all corrupt. Every time I've seen stock magic, I'll turn into a frog. And every time that we've experienced stock magic, bad things have happened. Well, there's a positive and a negative. Potentially. Potentially. So it's been sold to us. There is risk, but...
00:27:53
Speaker
There is not always a negative. But is there ever one that is just pure, no negative? You just drink it and... That would be magic. Like our magic. Not stock magic. Stock magic always has a... Stock magic always has a risk to it. The simpler things can sometimes be negated quite easily. So how can you call this pure? Because it's been made by me.
00:28:17
Speaker
That's rather self-a grand I remember moment in the camp when you dropped acid on everyone.
00:28:26
Speaker
I explained this last time. I was under a lot of pressure. You did say your backpack wasn't dangerous yet. That happened. Yeah, my foot still tingles. It was a small area. There was only a slight bit of damage. There's nothing in my backpack that can summon beasts from another play. Bet you know of. I wish there was. Something like coming handy when Dribbo runs away. Folly finger bang the ninth. Fizzle bang. But we don't know the eighth. We know more about your past.
00:28:56
Speaker
What's your ultimate goal here? Why are you with us? Why are you carried on with us for this quest? What's your end game here? What do you want? What question do you want to answer, Drago? I want to go home. Oh, I know you do, but... And I want to end the play. Done. Simple. Folly.
00:29:14
Speaker
What's your goal? Why are you with this? My goal is the same, but I believe for different reasons. You want to go home, I want to stop corrupt magic. I believe that blight is an incredibly corrupt form of magic. I like you. It must be stopped. I think we should keep him. Like a pet? I am no one to pet. I think we should keep him as a leader.
00:29:41
Speaker
that I would be okay with. Small people are smart in my experience. Alfred was sort of frowned a little bit at this. I like him. You were helpful during the battle. I mean, you'd surprised even me with your prowess. Did you like my tree? Oh, I mean, your other battle, but... Oh, the firewatt? Yes. Ah, yes. The tree was okay. Okay! I'm gonna lead him to Robin and say...
00:30:08
Speaker
I had to fight myself so hard not to hug that tree, it was so adorable. I don't know, my hugs hurt trees. And Robin's just taking this in. I'm not saying anything in this one. It appears that your goal is, at least for now, on the same path as ours. I do believe so. If you need any further persuasion, perhaps there is something else I could offer after the
00:30:36
Speaker
The battle of... Blackwater? Bleakmore. Blackwater, that's your game. That's the game you spent two years making. After the battle of Bleakmore, I think we're starting to learn that more allies is only a good thing. So I'm glad you're with us. No one person can stop the blight. And, Folly, yes. A question about stop magic.
00:31:02
Speaker
Talia wields magic. Hello. Through my training I wield smaller magics. Through your life essence. But my question would be, is there a potential, because we were in a world with stock magics, is there a potential for our magics to become affected by stock magic?
00:31:22
Speaker
How do you mean? Your magic affected. Well, as in because the way we cast magic, I tap into my life force and there are weaves that the way we tap into the way magic works is the risk that...
00:31:36
Speaker
Your magic could be used to create. Well no, or is there a risk that by using our magics we might accidentally use stock magic? Like a corrupt, like a corrupt art form of magic. Yes, because we don't, because we might be tapping into it wrong, because we're not trained to tap into it here. Do you understand?
00:31:52
Speaker
I do kind of understand your question, and it's a bit difficult. People seem to be from a different land than me, so I can't 100% say with all certainty. But when I create stock magic, it is my essence that I put into it, unless you people have any intention to learn alchemy and create your own. I don't trust magic. There we go. How I've always had it explained to me is that
00:32:19
Speaker
The way some magics get tapped into is like a river and certain people will dip into that river and perhaps store it in a bucket or some will tap into it directly and challenge their magics directly from it. Is there a risk that the way we tap into our magic would accidentally tap into whatever stock magic comes from? No.
00:32:43
Speaker
Absolutely sure. Yes. Unless you have some other way of tapping into magic from this sword coast land that you use. I don't see how. There's plenty of magic users who are pure on here. And unless they deem it, their magic can never be. So it's a choice to tap into stock magic. It's a choice to make. It's not a forced thing. But what about those people that slowly woke up and became stock magicists? Because that was one day everyone, people woke up and everyone could catch magic. But they were not trained.
00:33:14
Speaker
Right, but they didn't choose to access stock magic. It's happened to them. Hold on, I thought stock magic is something that you drink. It is, but it's something that you also make. It's something you can write down. There's many different forms. It's like the person in the shop said, you know, you don't want to live next to a stock. Because everyone woke up and could cast fireballs and lots of people cast fireballs. Someone told me it's like drunks. People have them and they feel nice. Or people have them and they don't feel nice.
00:33:42
Speaker
Give me a good blade in my hand any day. Okay. I have a dagger. We're travelling through the woods at this point. We're travelling through passing into deep thick portions of the forest. We return away from the meadow as this conversation continues to take place.
00:33:58
Speaker
The trees return their oppressive layer of a canopy above you as you continue to move on through as this conversation with Folly continues to take place. We pass one particular deep thicket, a deeper portion of the forest. The trees seem to lighten in colour and become more vibrant.
00:34:20
Speaker
would notice. You can see dapples of sunlight passing through the trees that seem to emit a green tinge on the ground, different from that of the autumnal colours caused closer to Bleeghmore. As you travel down the route-worn path, you see a small figure walking in the same direction as you, so walking, but you're catching up with him. The car is moving quicker than this figure. You see a deep brown cloak covering what seems to be a child. Don't blow him up this time, Folly. Oh, very well.
00:34:50
Speaker
Given that we've seen this person in a distance, I will hop into the back of the cart and use the next 10 minutes to cast Prayer of Healing just to boost everyone up a bit before...
00:35:02
Speaker
meeting someone that we don't know anything about lovely and what does just to remind us of i think 10 minutes to restore 2d8 to everyone plus minus both cast hold hold up because it'll take 10 minutes we're in sight distance sight distance would probably only be about a minute away should i you could be casting it throughout this okay fine i'll be casting it throughout everyone will eventually receive 14 points of healing okay but not quite yet should i walk ahead perhaps see what's going on before we get there i don't see the harm of that do you want to take robin with you
00:35:32
Speaker
Yeah, I'm sure we can do a... I was already slightly further out of the car. Are we putting the car to a halt or are we just... I'm just gonna... so Jagger's just gonna allow, if Robin was already in front, allow Elthir to overtake the car and those two kind of walk forwards and I'll slow the car down just behind them. Okay. So we follow next to me and Claude behind in the back of the car. We catch up with Robin and Elthir as they walk
00:36:03
Speaker
Greetings there, traveller. How far to Evershire?
00:36:10
Speaker
The figure stops and starts to stand slightly taller, its back seems to straighten ever so slightly as it pauses. It takes a few seconds before, very slowly, the small figure turns around and you realise there's not a child, it's actually a halfling, a female halfling. She's got dark brown hair tied back in her bun, her clothes seem ragged. And you get the sense, you two, that there's a sense of desperation in her face. There's a wide-eyedness to it as she turns around. Are you all right?
00:36:40
Speaker
What's wrong? No, I'm fine. I'm just, um... I'm trying to get to... to Evershire, actually. Where have you come from, Chovellers? Blee more. Yes, I thought so. I've also come from there. I'm just a day ahead, I think, from you. We are heading to Evershire. You... You... You're... Do you need aid? Are you well? No, I'm fine. I just... I was there during the battle.
00:37:08
Speaker
that happened and I just, I saw a lot of my family have gone now and
00:37:17
Speaker
I thought better to leave that place and move somewhere else. I have a cousin in Nevershire and I thought getting away from the front might be a good idea. How equipped for travelling does this lady look? She's got nothing. She's just been walking. You look at her, she doesn't have any kind of... She doesn't even have a walking stick as any trekking kind of stick with her. She has pretty much nothing there. She kind of looks up, glazed eyes at you.
00:37:45
Speaker
and I take a portion of the rations. Have you eaten? Have you first eaten? And she's hungrily eyeing up the food. Oh, I'm fine. Trust me, I'm... As I approach, I'm relying on Elfia to be looking for anything onto ward to happen with his ridiculous eye, whatever it is. So I'm just... I'm watching her literally start a falsehood.
00:38:05
Speaker
ridiculously high, whatever it is. He's got that intelligence, really high perception inside. Perception and insight is 17 o'clock before he's rolling out, so. Oh, I get that. He gets the term whatever it is. He's got a lot, though. He's not this perception. He's an action man in the forest. And I off-hold out the ration. She takes a second looking directly at Robin with his rations held out at arm. It's not a trick, it.
00:38:34
Speaker
and she very, very slowly reaches out her hand, still looking at Robin at each time that hand moves closer and closer until she scratches out at the hand and starts just gobbling, gobbling, gobbling, gobbling, thank you, gobbling this food down really kind of quickly, but still always keeping eyes on Robin and Alfie, making sure they keep that desire. Perhaps you are welcome to travel with us off the rest of the road to Evershire. I don't want to be a problem, I don't want to be. You would never be a burden.
00:39:04
Speaker
It's really nice of you both, but you seem to have some creature driving your car back there. He's a dragonborn. He's one of the people that help fight the undead at Blythmore. We're on a mission from Gilda Arclord. From the commander? Yeah. You know Gilda? Yeah. Oh, fantastic. Well, on behalf of Blythmore, I would like to thank you for your services.
00:39:37
Speaker
Shame about my... Yes, a journey, a companion along the road would be much appreciated. We also travel with a member of the Hailstorm Academy, who I'm sure would tend to any injuries you might have. Oh, well, I'm not injured. I was lucky enough to hide and avoided many of those casualties that took place on the walls of Blythmore. What's your name? Eretif. And who's your cousin?
00:40:07
Speaker
My cousin, the Dundred, he lives near the centre of Evershire in the Fog Garden, which is the central portion of Evershire. It's near the square in the middle with the statue. And, yeah, if you're going there, you won't miss it. Is his surname Copper Kettle?
00:40:34
Speaker
No, he's not, unfortunately. I do know the copper kettle, so they run the local blacksmith there. I didn't know, we just know that the person...
00:40:44
Speaker
The copper kettleboath him was the first name to come with a D. I didn't know whether he built an association. I don't know his first name unfortunately, but thank you very much for the food, human. I appreciate your kindness. Not to push my luck, but please may I have some of that water you have there. And again... Hold out the water for it. We have plenty of supplies on the cart. She takes it and quickly just guzzles down a good portion of the water.
00:41:10
Speaker
These forests are rather dangerous. It's quite a risk to travel on your own, is it not? Yes, I do agree with you, but I could not stay there any longer. I had to leave and I had no one to go with me, so I just, at first, like, started walking. Well, maybe. And I'm sure there is room on the cart for you. I'm sure you don't.
00:41:38
Speaker
small person you see of. I can get on and hide rather easily. Thank you again. I'll just jump on the back, shall I? I assume the cart's just caught up. I think so. Who's this? This is Eretif. You will be travelling with us. We're picking up another one. Hello! Ollie's just been waving at us. Jump on board. I might need a hand up. It's quite a tall cart. I'll pick her up.
00:42:13
Speaker
And you plonk her on the back of the car and you can see that Tyler looks hanging off the back of it. She looked rather content now but still a little nervous at this arrangement of people and instantly she notices Claude with the sigil on his front. Inside the car saying a prayer with her eyes like walks. Don't mind him, he's deep in
00:42:41
Speaker
And she's just quietly sat there as the car continues to take. Onwards. Onwards. Onwards. Whoa! Oh, God. Alfie will scout ahead just making sure that the trail is clear for us. As you scout ahead, you get a similar sense to everything else we've probably had in the forest. There seems to be a real absence of noise.
00:43:03
Speaker
Which in itself seems rather unnerving, but this is something now that you've always gotten used to because of the fact that it's been like that for quite some time. It hasn't just become noiseless. It's always been noiseless, okay? The day continues on in this fashion. Everything sits rather quietly. Talia also is back there.
00:43:20
Speaker
speaking, making small talk with her as it goes, making sure she's happy, making sure she's comfortable, offering her support as and when, as the cart continues to move off and you continue your movement through the forest. So the prayer is done, so 14 points for healing, are there 14 points healing, 14 points healing, 14 points healing, 14 points healing, and our new friend, because I have a stick person I can cast it on, she also gets 14 points of healing.
00:43:47
Speaker
Lovely. The eritif on the back you do notice her kind of perk up once you finish walking almost in and as you come to you see a small halfling sat next to you.

Eretith's Introduction and Journey to Evershire

00:43:58
Speaker
Hello. Follow me. Now I'm eritif. Follow, follow me.
00:44:03
Speaker
Erika. Erika! No, no, no. Why is he shouting at me? What's your name? Eretith. Like the realm. I'm named after the realm we live in, Eretith. E-e-e-e-e-e-e-e-e-e-e-e-e-e-e-e-e-e-e-e-e-e-e-e-e-e-e-e-e-e-e-e-e-e-e-e-e-e-e-e-e-e-e-e-e-e-e-e-e-e-e-e-e-e-e-e-e-e-e-e-e-e-e-e-e-e-e-e-e-e-e-e-e-e-e-e-e-e-e-e-e-e-e-e-e-e-e-e-e-
00:44:26
Speaker
After the world you live in, your world is Eryth, and she is called Eretith. It's like Elfia, the confusion you had before. A new friend, Claude. She's travelling with us to Levershire. Hello. She was at Bleeport. Her family was killed. Sorry. I hope... I hope that one day, um... that will never happen again. Well, I don't think it can happen again, because... To other people, I'm sorry. I'd like to say, because my lot are all dead soon.
00:44:57
Speaker
I will pray for you, Eric Heston. Thank you. And can I also just say as a member of the Hailstorm Academy, I'd like to thank you for your service to the realm. We will always be here to help. Thank you. No matter what Nasty Dralak says, don't listen to their lies. We are here to help. I have a question to one of you two who appear to know the way to Evershine. How far away are we?
00:45:22
Speaker
Well, we left the forest, but the forest was different from the first time I was there. It was bigger and nasty, you know? But... Didn't... I don't think he's answered your question very well. Could you, Meritor? We're about... We won't make it before nightfall. I'll recommend probably asleep before then, in the forest. Would probably be well.
00:45:52
Speaker
Like, stand too untrustworthy. But Robin, do you mind looking after Aerith tonight? By after, I mean looking over. I don't know. Well... The stranger in our camp. I need to sleep the less. So... Healthier, maybe you can keep eyes. Not... To cause any... You're not even saying it's sittily, are you? You're saying it's gonna have to be here. Yeah, yeah. Straightly. I won't be a burden, and I'm not... Be that it is me. Make that the case, we're still gonna look up.
00:46:23
Speaker
I understand that I'm a stranger to you and you are strangers to me. I probably won't sleep much longer. Well, you play your game right, you're going to be safe. It's more of a precaution for the rest of us. You're much nicer than the others, I reckon, for ones I've seen here. Have you seen one of the Dribbins before? What's Dribbins? That's the Dribbins' largest points, uh, subtly, at... There's more than... There's...
00:46:50
Speaker
I've seen a few, a few times. Where? Well, I haven't always lived in Bleeghmore. I used to live in Moonrise when I was younger, when I was a child. And in Moonrise there were a few of the Drogonborn. Where's Moonrise from here? It's far away. It's another kingdom to the south-east.
00:47:14
Speaker
Apparently the cows there have wings, but that might have been a story. Or a nursery rhyme. Might be. It's an interesting land. I'm not naturally from there. I'm not sure where I'm from, but that's where my mum and dad raised me and they were members of an order. It's very religious there, you see.
00:47:34
Speaker
in and amongst the people and humans and halflings like myself there were some like you but some of them were rather nasty and mean and didn't like meeting other people so they stuck together
00:47:50
Speaker
Didn't speak to anyone, but I met one once and he roared at me when I was a child. My first time I met him, he roared at me. It's not very nice, is it? No, but it's quite sweet, actually, when you get to know him. So let's make up, shall we? What order was your parents part of? That'd be a good question, Elfman.
00:48:10
Speaker
Why don't you think on it? As you're thinking on that, a dragon hops off the cart, as much as a dragon won't kind of hop off a cart, and starts to get out the camping supplies. Okay, so as you look around the area, the thickness of the trees really precludes you from moving off the path pretty much, unless you want to leave the cart on the road and move away from it. What do you guys feel? Well you should stay with the cart, because there's all the...
00:48:41
Speaker
got boxes and bags filled full of what sounds like, because they all fell off a cart, a series of clay items that were made either from clay people moving their way down or items that are specifically old weapons that need repairing. So you've got a series of broken shafts of arrows, boxes and boxes of them, of spears, of blunted daggers and swords as well. So it's really a collection of things that need repairs that are going to
00:49:10
Speaker
I would assume we can't leave the cart given how valuable our cargo might be. I won't leave the cart. I forgot that it was part of the mission. As they're having this discussion, thoughts of ambushes on carts and a Neverwinter wood start to pass through Robin's mind, he starts to scan
00:49:31
Speaker
the potential area for potential hotspots where we could hide unseen but still be inside of the cart and also any potential hotspots where we ourselves could be in danger from ambushing. Give me a history check because I'm saying your experience in the Neverwood Forest might give you some insight.
00:49:49
Speaker
Allow me to go out my character sheet. Do you know I'm having a really bad day of Foddy Memories? It's been, that's a fall. Foddy Memories? I like Foddy Memories. Yeah, Foddy Memories. You look around and you notice a few areas that...
00:50:03
Speaker
seem to, in your foggy vision, remember, similarly to that of the forest of Neverwinter, you notice a couple of low-hanging thick branches that could probably hold the weight of a human. Aside from that, the journey so far, the oppressive silence and the battle in Bleakmore still weighs heavily on your memory and therefore precludes you from really entering into properly
00:50:33
Speaker
I was looking to see if we could find a way to avoid being ambushed. Oh, good idea. I died in it here. Sorry, before we kick into that, Claude, there's information that you probably should tell us that you haven't told us. He did tell us he's died. Yeah, this is where I started to chase the butterfly, what led to chasing the doggy, what led to chasing the bear, what led to me being chased by the skeletons. I know, he's in this forest, but we're saying around here.
00:51:02
Speaker
Here. As in this very spot. I mean, how far is here for you? Yeah, define here. Um... On this day, way back when I died, I knew I stood in this bit at one point in that day. So funny, you look like you had something to say. That was very helpful, Claude. Very helpful indeed. I would just think that if you want, I can rig the cart.
00:51:33
Speaker
What? To blow up? To magic. There's already ropes on it. And this is like... Well done. We were all trying to be funny and Claude just takes it. Claude just takes it. That wasn't trying to be funny. Don't rig the cart. Yes, yes. I can set a warning to the cart where anybody who comes near it will know.
00:52:01
Speaker
How would we know? How would you prefer? A mental blow-stick art? No, no, a noise or a mental alarm that can go off in my head. Right. Without saying anything, Robin goes into the bag of holding and he takes out a stash of silver thread that he bought before travelling through this realm and he holds it out to you thinking he knows what you're going to do. I've finally looked with some kind of
00:52:28
Speaker
Intrepid curiosity because Robin clearly has a slight understanding of magic and how it works. So he takes it with glee and then puts it in his backpack. Yes, exactly. Good. Intrepid curiosity. So you can make some kind of...
00:52:44
Speaker
Alarm? Yes, basically, I can create an invisible barrier around the card. We can camp off-road nearby, because I believe you're all a little bit weary of staying on an open area. And if anybody were to approach it, I can build the alarm bells out. I can make it so we can go to it any time.
00:53:07
Speaker
If that sounds any use to you. Sounds quite... I mean, how much do you want to know? It's not very useful if the alarm goes off only when they're driving off. As soon as anybody breaks the barrier, the noise will sound. What if a bird flies in in the middle of the night? Or a badger. Badgers don't fly, Alfie.
00:53:29
Speaker
I meant into the city. I'll take a point actually. I don't know a lot, but I do know that badges do not fly. Wait a minute, what if there are flying badges though? We don't know. We're not in the storm coast.
00:53:41
Speaker
You can set this for eight hours. You can designate what sort of creatures can go in and out of the drapes, that's right. I can make it so that none of us will set off the alarm, and I can make it so any creature larger than the palm of Drago's hand will set off the alarm of creatures. We should only do it with a big palm of hand. I know what he's doing. Palm of hand.
00:54:09
Speaker
Not that I don't trust you, Folly. But he doesn't trust you, Folly. It's more that I don't really like or trust magic. Apart from his sword. Your sword is magic. I'm not really... My sword's a sword. The glow's blue and kills things really easily. That's because I'm very strong. But the glowing blue bit. What about the glowing blue bit? I can help with that. And you leave my sword alone. Okay.
00:54:40
Speaker
I'm going to stay with the cart. That's fine. Let me get to work and follow just without hesitation anyway. He's going to start prepping all these materials that it kind of pulls out and a little barrier. It's kind of get generated card. Take them about 10 minutes. The spell you're casting is alarm. The spell I'm casting is indeed alarm. So basically 20 foot cube centered on the cart. Anybody who approaches within that 20 foot cube. That isn't one of the designators. Aside from anybody who was within this party here.
00:55:08
Speaker
and any creature larger than tiny size will set the alarm off. I will make it an audible sound though so it will be a bell ring ring ring ring ring ring ring ring ring ring ring ring ring ring ring ring ring ring ring ring ring ring ring ring ring ring ring ring ring ring ring ring ring ring ring ring ring ring ring ring ring ring ring ring ring ring ring ring ring ring ring ring ring ring ring ring ring ring ring ring ring ring ring ring ring ring ring ring ring ring ring ring ring ring ring ring ring ring ring ring
00:55:31
Speaker
that it will sound more. I assume without the car we can probably squeeze through the trees and actually get a bit more shelter. You can indeed. Elvin, you've probably been leading this. Can you give me a survival check, please? Yeah, right. Robin would say that this is happening. Folly, I need some help assistance trying to find us some dinner. Will you come with me? I don't know what help I'll be, but gladly. I would love to have seen that. Enjoy. When there's a moment
00:56:00
Speaker
Drago. Fifteen. Yes, Claude? Before we turn in for the night, I would appreciate a conversation with you. Oh, that's absolutely... Oh, that's not Dragon. Sorry, that's not Drago. That's not Dragon. I can't even know his name. Yes, of course. Erm... Like in private? Yeah.
00:56:25
Speaker
Right. The reason why I hesitated there is for some reason when you said turn in for the night, I've got this image of Claude in proper old pyjamas. That's the end of the SEOs. Like, everything's a wrong piece. It's like a hell of a pyjama. So, you rolled a 15 for your survival check, is that right?
00:56:42
Speaker
you move through the thicket deeper and away from the road you don't actually have to move far before you notice one goliath of a tree that stands high in the high high high into the air it stands above its leaves don't even meet the canopy of the other tree it goes above and beyond it what you notice about this tree however is that it has died not
00:57:06
Speaker
not through a blight form and not through Claude. What it has done is it seems to have died unhealthy. You would recognize this straight away just of size. It gets too big. It obviously grew too quickly and it's just naturally decayed and formed itself into this giant now skeleton of a tree.
00:57:26
Speaker
So what you notice is the base of this tree, which is probably about 50 foot wide. No, sorry, that's ridiculous. 30 foot wide. 50 foot. 30 foot wide tree. Very good. Has almost hollowed out on the inside, causing what seems to be a really rather fancy and nice setup for a party of four or five individuals to stay out. Five. There's six. There's seven of them. There's seven. Should I get a cookie? Could be that convenient, could it? And luckily two of them are half people, so.
00:57:56
Speaker
I think that's no way to talk about cowards. I take offence to that. No, it's all about half-elf. I don't get it. I've got a half-elf. Also, Tanya's two-thirds of a person? She's growing. Teenage girl. Healthy, well, cool, that's funny. I think I've found somewhere nice and sheltered for the night. Should the weather turn poor? And Tanya kind of bursts through fucking hell. That's a big tree. I've seen bigger. All right, it wasn't a competition.
00:58:22
Speaker
Right, is this where we're going to stay then? Yes. Shall I get making a fire? Is it, do I look like it's okay for us to start a fire site? Yeah, absolutely. The ground's kind of sodden. It's not wet wet, but it's not going to light the other... Yes, light a fire Talia. This reminds me of home. Great. And she goes around looking for some couple of twigs and leaves and comes back to you with the... Thank you for our conversation earlier about my outburst.
00:58:59
Speaker
being with. I'm not sure what use they've been but I appreciate it and she puts the wood down and lights and lights the fire and then goes back for some of the supplies to bring over. I would wait when we're out of the issue I would say to Folly. Oh yeah sorry you've gone off you've gone off hunting. We've gone off hunting. I would say to Folly good spell that alarm it's very useful in these situations. It does have its uses indeed yeah. I used to have a friend who could
00:59:27
Speaker
Cast that. Thank you. Helpful. Yes? Where? Oh, well, we're back in your Sword Coast kind of place. Yes, back in the Sword Coast kind of place. Polly, I was listening to what you were saying earlier and I couldn't help but notice you managed to find out an awful lot from studying
00:59:50
Speaker
samples, blood, whatever it is you took from them of those creatures. Yes. And I have a favour to ask of you. Go on. I go into the Bag of Holding and I take out the vial of the Sharni's blood that we captured off Draghae's sword in episode one and I offer it out to Folly and go, whatever you can learn from it, myself, Elfie and Draghae would appreciate it.
01:00:15
Speaker
I see. Folly will reach out, take the vial. Straight away he plunges into his pocket and he kind of pulls out a little magnifying glass kind of thing. It's got different levels on it so he just kind of clicks it down and starts examining it straight away. Could you give me an investigation check with Advantage, please? Also, can someone remind me who Foshani is? I will just quickly recap.
01:00:37
Speaker
This series that you're currently listening to is the beginning of our second arc. Voshani was our big bad guy at the end of the first arc, whereupon lots of information is gleaned about bits of the party that has come out anyway in conversations in this series. You're not missing out on the listeners, but...
01:00:53
Speaker
She was this giant goo loopy tree that the party had to fight in the very last instance before they were instantly taken out of that place and that realm and ended up on the shores of the Ozran Islands. So that was the last part of the Sword Coast they remember was this creature, this Vashani.
01:01:10
Speaker
If you think back to episode one, Drago was still covered in the remnants of her blood. Yeah, we never did. Because that's awesome. I was just getting everyone off the speed. What did you roll? Have you rolled yours? I have not rolled yet. Once away. Just with advantage. Nineteen. As you click down, one, two, three of your magnifying glass eyepiece, which I like to make. Like the guy from Toy Story, I imagine. Yeah, actually quite true. Yeah, yeah.
01:01:38
Speaker
And you click down a few more and what you start to see is a series of a multifarious level of liquids and colours that seem to emanate from this deep green, slightly yellowy, amber-y liquid that changes colour as you see it kind of move. You could see it pulsating before anyway. The style of which you've seen before, it matches that of many of the liquids you've currently seen, but there's something warm
01:02:07
Speaker
about it in terms of temperature, the actual vial you hold, and Robin you would have noticed it had a warmth, you probably would have thought it's because it's been in your back packet, it's been close to your body and within a bag of holding. But you notice it seems to give off emanate a quality of temperature as well, which is unlike many of the aspects you've held previously. You also get, which is very unscientific of you, and something you instantly neglect and negate, a feeling of dread overcome you as you look closely at this liquid, okay?
01:02:38
Speaker
Okay, Farley's still investigating. He, as you said, he gets his feeling of dread. He's like, still examining it, and he just goes, this is very interesting there, Robin. Where did you come by this? Well, that's a long and fascinating story. And perhaps we should share it once we've found some dinner. Tell me tonight, because this vow is rather interesting, and I really look forward to finding out about it.
01:03:05
Speaker
I shall. Just before we carry on, I couldn't help but notice the sheer lack of horror. Did he start again? Just before we carry on, I couldn't help but notice the horror across your face as you were studying that thing. Yes. Again, it's only a theory. I believe it would be something that requires further testing before I unnecessarily tell you things that could just be false anyway. I prefer to know for definite before I tell you anything.
01:03:34
Speaker
So dinner then? Dinner first. And we'll continue trying to find something to eat. You look, and look, you find nothing. There's no sign of small vermin, large birds, anything in this portion of the forest. A lot of these forests remind you of Never Winter Forest, but save for its absence of life.
01:03:59
Speaker
There's a silence that holds true over this forest that it seems unlike anything you've ever experienced. And Althea, away from them, you also would have noticed this feeling and perceived it long ago, but there is nothing here. And the more you look, the more this becomes apparent that this forest seems to oppress life rather than invite it in.
01:04:25
Speaker
And as you return back to the camp with the fire burning in this giant tree, Drago, you're sat away from the party.

Drago and Claude's Secretive Discussion

01:04:33
Speaker
Claude, you would have probably helped with the supplies moving over, setting up the camp in Elthir, Robin, Tali and Follyfizz when the 9th would be over there. Eretith is actually still with the cart rather happy in conversation with Drago, though Drago probably wasn't.
01:04:47
Speaker
if I wasn't talking much you seem to be nervous talking as you start to make your way back over and she's just kind of talking about gods to you. Moonrise there's many gods there you see and there were so many there but then after the Unmending we had to get rid of them all and there's just the three you see and my family were the faith of
01:05:09
Speaker
No, they weren't. They were teriani. Yes, they followed teriani for a while. But before that, it was the faith of a tinnis and then a leader for a little while as well. They're the only three we're allowed to practice now. And you see, it was interesting times then, you see, because the gods walked these lands once. The actual gods, you see, Drago, and many years ago, yes, yes, they had their wars and their disagreements, but, you know, we mortals, we shared in their love and generosity, too. Many gods are gone now, you see. No one really knows why, but
01:05:37
Speaker
I think because of after the great men- are the un-mending and after the great flame, it's the Obciscra. Make sure those gods have no followers now and Eryth, you see? I'm sorry, I'm a bit nervous. No need to be. It's understandable why you're like this after what horrors you've seen in battle. I'm sure you've seen many horrible things in your time, Draggo. Too many to go into now. Sorry to bring it up. Erm...
01:06:03
Speaker
Claude, are you around? Yeah, I'll be around camp. No, he's not by the camp, he's by the car. I'll be with it, yeah. But you were like, I can't imagine if you went back. Hello! You wanted to talk.
01:06:15
Speaker
Oh, um... And she points to the camera. I think Elphir could do with some help. He's not from here. He's from a different kingdom. Aerithith. Close enough. Maybe you could offer him a bit of guidance on where we are. That's a very good... Which one is the Elphir? The one that's an elf with elven ears. If you just shout out, Elphir, you'll find him. Elphir, okay. Thanks for talking to me, Aerith. We're talking more in the morning. Okay. Get a good night's sleep. It will help.
01:06:44
Speaker
You two. And then she turns and skidaddles off into camp to find an elfia and speak to them but probably doesn't and just ends up sitting down near the fireplace next time. We seem to keep picking up more and more stragglers along the way. She seems quite sweet though. She does. You wanted to talk to me? Yes, and perhaps we could speak in private. I think this is as private as it gets, Claude. Unless your master's listening in.
01:07:13
Speaker
mobile my dungeon master perhaps we could speak in private oh oh oh oh well yes indeed we can fuck off guys
01:07:24
Speaker
There's a slight pitter-patter of rain on the canopy above you. As you can hear off in the distance, the conversations taking place that seem well out of earshot. You're aware at this distance that even the likes of Althea would not be able to hear you save the thickness of trees and the private nature of your conversation.
01:07:46
Speaker
I'm going to do something you've seen before so that you know I'm telling the truth. Right and you're gonna keep clothes on? If you wish then yes they will remain on my person. Yeah I wish I wish this a lot. Claude will cast the truth on himself. If you stand just outside you will not be affected by this spell but you are welcome to join me inside the light. Claude it's okay just...
01:08:13
Speaker
I'll stay here. Just staying within the zone of truth. Does he need to make a wisdom saving throw? Unless he's willing. If he's willing to only tell the truth, then not tell a lie. So if he's willing to not actively tell a lie, does that make sense? If he's seeing this, he trusts you. This isn't the first heart to heart that we've had, so he's just kind of willing for purity.
01:08:35
Speaker
English point of view, he's just willing it forward. So if you do want to lie though, I'll make your royal wisdom 7th. That's fine, I don't think I've ever lied as Trago. Very true. I have something for you. Right. I have
01:08:50
Speaker
I have not the ability to drink alcohol, but especially not on the volume of which you can drink alcohol, so I'm going to give this to you because I'll never use it. Right. This was a gift of the King of Sleepguard to me when I left his service. There were only four bottles of this whisky in all of Erith. It is over 200 years old, I'm told, and I'd like you to have it.
01:09:23
Speaker
I believe it is called a bribe, Drago. A bribe? Yes. Right, okay. That answers the question as to why. This is the only valuable thing I own. Right. Is yours. I could never enjoy the taste because it makes me cry. Okay. I think maybe get to the point as to why you're giving this to me. As much as I like alcohol, you know I do. I wish I could trade it for milk.
01:09:54
Speaker
I spoke recently. We did. Well, you were at a very low point and you asked me to help you. I did. Well, you might recall earlier today that help was given, but it was not by me, it was by the master. Yes. You heard his voice in your head. I assumed it was your master that I heard.
01:10:23
Speaker
He needs your help and you have said that you want to stop the blight and you also told me about your brother and father. Yes. Well I have told the master about that and if you help with the blight the master could help
01:10:45
Speaker
with whatever you need. Right. And since you asked me for a way to help you know when maybe you're being a bit too reckless. Yeah. The teddy bear I gave you wasn't an ordinary teddy bear. I assume that anything you give me is not ordinary. Well what?
01:11:09
Speaker
What does the bear do? Unless you talk to the master or lets him talk to you and it lets him help aid your blade. I will, I would like to take a moment to enjoy the poetry I just made. Are you telling me this bear? Drago searches through his satchel and digs out the bear that was at the very bottom of the satchel.
01:11:35
Speaker
He digs it out and I assume it's about the size of the palm of one of his hands. Yeah what you're looking at is a deep brown bear and what it is is a singular circular body, a smaller circular head, only one ear attached, two buttons for eyes, no mouth, two smaller portions for its poor arms and two long
01:11:57
Speaker
Legs that seem to dangle down everything's been stitched a separate parts, but then stitched together rather haphazardly it looks rather Childlike it looks like it's been made by a child It looks a little bit worn it looks like it's close to falling apart almost, but there's a certain Innocence to it as you look at it. You're saying Your master
01:12:21
Speaker
can communicate to me through this bear. You heard him speak today twice. I assumed that was from you. I helped it, but he wants to help your blade and you want to help the blight. And I believe that you can benefit from maybe entering into a partnership together.
01:12:50
Speaker
It'll be temporarily. Right, so? We need the help, Drago, and you're very strong. And you need help, I think, too. And as far as I'm aware, no one else helps the master but me. And he can help you in many ways. Claude, you had to die.
01:13:16
Speaker
order to help your master and I thought about this and it's lovely that you don't have to die to meet him okay I was just making sure that one point there if you kneel with me we could pray together and or the master would like to speak to you directly if you'd allow it I I don't pray
01:13:37
Speaker
You don't need to pray like in the normal way. We just sort of stand there and you just have to be nearby. And then all of a sudden you're in his dinner party room with him. Claude, do you want this? Do you want my help? I need your help, Drago. And I think the master will make it even stronger. And I think he will help you function. Claude, I don't know your master. I know you. You need my help. I need your help.
01:14:08
Speaker
I don't know how I feel about bringing back people from the dead. Then it might not be dead. What if Eryth is not a place like the Sword Coast? What if the Sword Coast is real and Eryth isn't? What if they're not dead? Listen. My master doesn't keep the dead. He keeps the souls of people who no longer have a body on Eryth.
01:14:41
Speaker
my past. I'm not sure if I'm ready to revisit mistakes I've made and people I've lost. You don't have to but you'd earn the favour too if you ever wanted to or you could spend that favour on more of these bottles of whisky what you can't buy in the shop. How do we speak to your master? You have to touch me in some way. I suggest
01:15:14
Speaker
and I will do, yeah, I'll just offer out my hand. Jogo slowly reaches over his hand and lays like a finger on it while closing his eyes and he's wincing like he's about to be electric. You know like how you're going to change a light bulb and you don't know if someone's turned the electricity off and you're going to touch it just gingerly to see if there's that spark. That's exactly what he's doing when he reaches out to Claude's hand. And have you got a bear in your other hand? I have. Okay. Okay.
01:15:45
Speaker
And Drago doesn't touch things gingerly. This is a big thing here. He's never unsure. I'll cast a combination of every spiritual ability I can. So the amulet will go, there'll be the commune spell, there'll be the divine intervention ability, everything so that Drago may have a moment face to face or at least in communication with the master.

Drago's Mystical Experience

01:16:20
Speaker
natural 20 or 19. Fuck me, you are the god. No. There's a twist. Don't be a 20, don't be 30 on a natural 20. 30? Wow. Okay. Drago, as you tentatively breach out a couple of fingers, that's probably all you could literally fit in the hand of Claude, you touch down for a second and realise nothing really changes so you lay part of your Claude down upon his hand
01:16:46
Speaker
and for a moment it seems to relax you for a second contact, human contact or any kind of contact seems quite alien to you but this seems to calm you for a second as you notice that Claude doesn't react to your touch his eyes close and you hear from under his breath a series of glottal chants that slowly kind of whispers under his breath his lips are moving quickly and quickly and quickly but you don't see anything really change at first you look around to the car to the forest silence you notice though
01:17:16
Speaker
suddenly you hear this almost a vibrating almost like a a bee or a fly really close to both your ears you get a fuzzing in both your ears that seems to vibrate in your ears your eyes start to blur over so slightly it feels like someone's just wobbling both your eyeballs ever so slightly not enough to ruin your vision but just for you to notice you quickly snap your eyes over to where you snap your eyes over to where Claude is currently sad
01:17:46
Speaker
and you notice your eyeballs continue to feel this vibrating motion you scan your eyes back over to Claude and you notice suddenly now these wisps of dark smoke seem to curl up around his legs as he continues to chant over and over again he's grasping with his spare hand that isn't holding your hand an amulet which seems to pulsate with this deep dark red pulsing light almost matching that of a heartbeat of a human as it pulses
01:18:21
Speaker
around Claude's legs it creeps up around his waist almost like small snakes around his arm around his bicep down his arm making its way towards your hand you have a choice to pull your hand away if you would wish oh I'll keep my hand there but I am as I watch all of this happen
01:18:44
Speaker
Like a cold sweat starts taking over Drago as he starts to realise that everything he doesn't genuinely stay away from, that everything he stays away from, magic, gods, he's going to become a part of it. And so he's closing his eyes and wincing. All things that's just so against Drago. Cold sweat just...
01:19:08
Speaker
fear is starting to creep through his veins. The first wisp reaches round over your claw and you feel nothing at first. You feel a soft breeze almost brush against your claw. It starts to curl up your arm. You can see now how it passes over from clawed onto you. Sort of a consistent entity that is passing over onto you. It rolls itself up over your shoulder and across your
01:19:34
Speaker
of your dragonborn torso down your other arm towards the teddy that you're currently holding. It wisps around its hanging, clinging, thready legs and passes into the eye of one of the bears as the rest of the wisp of smoke
01:19:52
Speaker
off this deep black light and seems to vibrate in your ears louder and louder and louder and all of a sudden your hand is removed from Clords and you start to, staring at the spare, start to fall backwards as the bear seems to be out in front of you and as you thud and hit the ground suddenly your world goes dark.

Shoutout to Danny's Etsy Shop

01:22:03
Speaker
Hi everyone, this is a special and really quick shoutout to our main man Danny who plays Claude. He's set up his own Etsy page and it's called, funnily enough, Crafts by Claude. He's currently hand making and selling personalised initiative trackers. Each comes with a logo of the character or creature type because you can also have them made for baddies as well.
01:22:04
Speaker
Year!
01:22:20
Speaker
and they can be personalised to include specific character names or indeed nicknames if you want them. But wait, I hear you exclaim, whether I put these awesome trackers made by the world's single nicest person. Luckily they fit perfectly on your DM screen or in my case, my laptop screen. And we've all been there in the heat of a massive important battle and you've kind of lost track a little bit about whose turn it is and the players are all up in your face about who's going next. These are perfect just so everyone knows very clearly who's going in what order. They're super easy to move around to set up.
01:22:50
Speaker
they're not going to get broken they are honestly incredible bit of kit we've used them quite a bit on the fellowship at the tabletop and we love them check out his work on Etsy search crafts by Claude
