Toni Gonzalez
Hello friends, welcome back to this week's episode. i am very happy to be back, of course, to talk to you about different ways to deal with stress. This week, I'm talking about different ideas, something totally different than normal the normal things I talk to you about. I normally talk to you about breathing and working out, moving your body, doing some mindfulness activities. This week, it's very

different. I'm going to start out with laughter.

Laughter as medicine. Let's talk about how when we are in a room with people and you don't even have to know a person and something funny happens, everyone starts laughing.
00:01:30
Toni Gonzalez
Also, you could be in a room with people you really don't um either get along with or, you know, it could be people that are just coworkers that you don't associate with or people that you just, you get what I'm saying, right?
00:01:45

ah One person starts laughing, everybody starts laughing and it brings everyone together. So what can you do to do this? To get some laughter in, of course, watch funny movies, schedule some time at a comedy show.

Watching funny videos is one of my favorite ways to decompress and, of course, crack up.

You can get so many things now. You can watch so many things online now versus things. 10, 15 years ago. Now you can go on YouTube, you can go on Instagram, you can go on TikTok, you can anywhere and watch some funny videos. So this simple act not only lightens the mood, but also strengthens team bonds between, it could be coworkers, could be people that you are in a gym with, it you you you know what I'm saying. It just brings everyone together. Laughter truly is a wonderful stress reliever.

The second one is creative expression through art. Now let's get a little creative. Many creative many Police officers, first responders, firefighters might think that they're not artistic, but art comes in many forms. You don't need to be Picasso to benefit from creative expression.
00:03:03
Toni Gonzalez
Why not keep some art supplies in your break room? Sketch pads, colored pencils, or even adult coloring books can provide a great outlet during downtime. Maybe you're like cringing or like, I'm not doing that in front of my coworkers. We'll keep something with you that you can use when you can get to it.

If you have a more collaborative spirit, you can organize a group art project like a mural or community piece. It allows you to express your feelings creatively and fosters teamwork. Plus, it's a great way to unwind together.

Just remember, it's all about the process, not the end result.

The next thing is adventure therapy. Next on this list is adventure therapy. This could be anything from rock climbing and hiking to kayaking or hiking. Urban scavenger hunts. Stepping outside your normal routine and engaging in physical activities can distract you from stressors while also boosting your mood.

Consider organizing team outings to take advantage of these adventurous activities. I remember a group of people that i used to work with that I was working with at the time would do paintball activities and and create two teams and everybody would get out there and it would be so much fun. The adrenaline can work wonders.

The next thing is curate curated playlists for positive vibes. Now let's talk about something we all love, music, but instead of zoning out with your favorite tunes, how about creating specific playlists designed just for lifting your spirits?
00:04:35
Toni Gonzalez
Research shows that music has a powerful effect on our emotions, so curating a playlist of uplifting songs can be a game changer. You can even take it a step further and organize a musical chair event, which everyone shares one song resonates with them. And then you do this. This can foster deeper connections among the team while also boosting morale. Now, I don't know if this is something that people would do. but maybe at a party or, um, you know, at a social event, you can do this and have fun with it or just listen to your playlist. Okay. Remember, it's not about the music. It's about what means, what it means to you. Right.

So these are just a few things, thinking outside of the box, things that normally I wouldn't even discuss, but I think that would be great. Get out there, people. Do different things.
00:05:30
Toni Gonzalez
Find things that resonate with you and just get out there and do them, right? And then get some friends to go along with you.

And if what I share with you does not, you resonate, find things that do or find people that do resonate with you because it's important to take care of yourself and stress is something that you don't need to carry around. All right.
