And so some of the stuff is in the orbit of that, but we're going to talk about ah Sony's big state of play yesterday, which in my opinion, contained the best of Sony and the worst of Sony. ah So we'll chat about that. ah so A cool demo that just dropped that God knows I'm excited for. And also one of the biggest games of the fall, Assassin's Creed Shadows was delayed.
00:02:16
Speaker
Until next year. So we'll talk a little bit about that. Why we think that is. And if it's new date, hopefully is a better sign for the game. Question mark.

Ubisoft's Strategic Game Delays

00:02:25
Speaker
A delayed game is always good. A game that releases on time is usually shit. Miyamoto. Yeah. He said that. He said that to me in line at Akudoba. How are you guys doing? I didn't see you there. Who are you guys? There's so many Akudobas. Just because we're both Akudoba doesn't mean we're all the same all the time.
00:02:45
Speaker
And then we have the Tokyo Kidobos. How are you guys? Is everyone good? had all I I don't have a good answer to that question, which is just telling you enough. We're all equally, we're listen, we're alive. We have a roof over our head. We are alive. There's no roof over our head. There's There's no roof over our head. There's no roof over our head. There's no roof over our head. There's no roof over our head. There's no roof over our head. There's no roof over our head. There's no roof over our head. There's no roof over our head. There's no roof over our head. There's no roof over our head. There's no roof over our head. There's no roof over our head. There's no roof over our head. There's no roof over our head. There's no roof over our head.
00:03:15
Speaker
And then I realized I've been in Nebraska for almost three weeks and I'm like, what is, how has it been that long already? And also I'm ready to go home. yeah And now I'm going to be here another week.
00:03:27
Speaker
corn huskers. Am I right? Uh, no, I hate the Nebraska. Okay. He doesn't like the corn huskers. He's not husking. Do you have tips for how they can husk corn better? Uh, move to your liking. There's more corn. There's more corn in Iowa. Yeah. Nebraska's got more cows and poop and man Iowa's got corn. It's got some punch in a hole in the usual layers, what they're doing. And then there's Wisconsin.
00:03:53
Speaker
That's what they say. I read that in a pamphlet that Shigeru Miyamoto handed to me. and In that Kedobo. What are you doing there? No, it was just one very eventful oh is that one one very eventful outing and I got to the front of the line and I asked for a BLT and they asked me to leave.
00:04:10
Speaker
door real humbling moment at the cute hobo with my friend Shiggy-san. But yeah, we yeah let's it's let's before we start off with our news story, because there's too much news to make jokes. I know we're seven minutes into this, but forget about the last seven minutes because there's too much news to make jokes. But before we get into it, Thank you to everyone watching live on YouTube, listening on your podcast, service to choice, watching the VOD. Appreciate you all. And remember, your memberships, your patronage, your your YouTube membership, your Twitchies, youre you you're just good vibes. Sharing a video, giving it a thumbs up means the world to us, including folks like Darwin's dummy throwing $2 into the pot. Thank you so much, Darwin's dummy. What about the Sonic Showcase?
00:04:51
Speaker
Listen, I'm going to talk about the one and only one important thing from the Sonic Showcase. We have that as a new as a news item today, so don't worry. Did you watch that showcase? the so the Sonic one is really bad. It was really, it was deeply bad. It was like a 30 minute showcase. It took about 20 minutes to get to a ah game, like a a regular game. And it was just the game we already knew existed. But the one thing I would tell you, they they announced one thing I'm very excited for. Okay. And then we're excited because you're excited. Thank you.
00:05:23
Speaker
Also, he was wearing, that is excited. The Demonic Grand Manager was wearing an iced out Shadow the Hedgehog necklace. I don't want to know where I can get it. the Just any downtown city drawer store is my guess.
00:05:42
Speaker
Uh, and then, uh, orbiting peanut with a $5 don't know. Thank you so much orbiting peanut. We'll catch the VOD tomorrow while I hang with Helene. Thanks for being my little dose of escapees. Our pleasure. They were supposed to know who Helene is. Helene is who is it?
00:05:59
Speaker
Don't worry about that. If you have to ask, don't worry about it. Yeah, you're not hanging

February: A Key Month for Game Releases?

00:06:04
Speaker
out with Heli, that's for sure. I don't really want to Google it. I'm worried that weird things will come up. Was that? Well, no, that was Helina, the name of the My Cupcake Romance song. Yeah. Different person.
00:06:14
Speaker
absolutely different person. She was dead, but then she came back to life, so shout out to Elena. The big bit of news that dropped earlier today that we were referencing earlier is that ah Ubisoft has decided to delay Assassin's Creed Shadows, which was originally set ah to release on November 15th this year. They are moving it a couple months to February 14th, Valentine's Day. ah That was just announced via just be a little tweet, a little image saying, uh, pretty much, you know, the, the, the, the normal stuff for a delay. They said the game is well, I guess there's two different stories. Cause there was also, you can't talk about this, Casey. There was an internal that cannot leave so some turtle memo that leaked, you know, what he, what he sent to the staff after this and pretty much saying, you know, touching on a couple of things of, of, we're really proud of this game. made The game is content complete and everything. Uh, it almost seems like, the game could be released when it is, but it seems like Star Wars Outlaws um really underperformed to the fact the point where they're kind of trying to relaunch it in the fall or like almost eventize it in the fall season again, like maybe get a new ad campaign and during during football season or during the holiday season, you know, maybe get some Black Friday deals, maybe get some bundles. ah So it seems like Star Wars Outlaws is going to be like what they're positioning as their their big game of the fall.
00:07:32
Speaker
ah with Assassin's Creed coming ah in next year, but the they also, you know, there's other other sort of changes to this, including ah it seems like they're this game and I don't know if all their games forward are gonna launch on Steam day one, you know, as opposed to sort of being the...
00:07:49
Speaker
in their investor investor, uh, pamphlet thing. They said that all game, all their games are coming to steam on day one now, which is great. Put the games where the people are. Yeah. I mean, uh, I'm gonna, uh, for those watching, I'm gonna, I'm gonna but be working on a unpacked video for, uh, not next week, but the week after kind of detailing the past few years of Ubisoft and kind of how we got here because, uh,
00:08:14
Speaker
we'd Look back or a little bit further than outlaws, Avatar, Frontiers of Pandora underperformed, Prince of Persia underperformed. Don't say that, it was great. It was great, but i'd run it underperformed. Look, i'm gonna buy how many copies do I need to buy for to to change that under it to an over? yeah and probably really I thought Assassin's Creed Mirage underperformed ah because there was no online conversation about it really after release. It released it kind of just came out and people kind of forgot about it.
00:08:42
Speaker
Oh yeah. But then when I was actually researching it today, that game actually sold very well. It was one of their best selling games of the generation. There you go. If not their best selling game, this generation, not that you'll be put out a lot yet. Um, this generation, uh, I don't know if it's a little better in Valhalla. Gotcha. I just, I can't, I just

Game Quality and Critic Reviews

00:09:01
Speaker
feel like Valhalla was a, yeah. Generations don't mean anything anymore.
00:09:09
Speaker
like I don't know. I played five new gen exclusive games. Hey, but we're talking about the external Astro bot. Yeah. yeah um yeah yeah that's same thing oh shit Part of, part of what I'm working on with that script is kind of how Ubisoft seems to be recentering itself a little bit because they had tons of, uh, live service games and development. They canceled pretty much all of them. Uh, the only one that really made it out from that big new wave that they We're working on was ex defiant. ah They had a hyperscape, but that got shut down not long after it launched. And then like those recon front lines was worked on for four years revealed and then canceled because the reveal was so bad. And then Heartland Division Heartland was just let go. So between like Prince of Persia Mirage, it was like fired. You haven't been pretty much. I called got called of the HR office. I was like, shit.
00:10:06
Speaker
Yeah, but but their games seem to be focusing more on density and story again, which is the hubi stuff that people really like before they really went just bloated open world for everything because even shadows in their marketing is really focused on the characters, the new gameplay features like the seasons and all that and how that changes the game.
00:10:25
Speaker
are really focusing on like the technical presentation. So I like that Ubisoft has delayed shadows and wants to release it properly because like they are basically their reputation at this point is for basically releasing games that are just buggy at launch. Also, give it to critics early. Yeah.
00:10:42
Speaker
Like, Star Wars Outlaws, and this is a problem with, this is a problem ah for everyone's side. this This problem is, it is the fact that so many sites and critics rely on that huge traffic at embargo or at launch. And so if you release something afterwards, then you're you're technically, you might lose a lot of money. But a game, like the people had to rush through, critics had to rush through Star Wars Outlaws, and that is not a game that is enjoyable if rushed through. I'm savoring it, I'm taking my time, I'm doing little Java missions, and they give me Java clothes. And if I get a little Java clothes every night, I'm happy as shit. It's job of clothes. You know about job of clothes. I'm sure you were in meetings where we're like, what do we do with the job? There's several factions and you do missions for the factions and they and the more they like you, you get outfit ah options that you can kind of dress like they're gang. So it's almost like Crips and Bloods, but it's like huts and I don't know, loads.
00:11:37
Speaker
it was Isn't there like a sand gang in there or something? They're all sand gangs. from ze all every batches is The same bus or the but but jobsbs in the dawns the job some jobs If you listen to, if you, if,
00:11:55
Speaker
If I sound like I tried to flub that is cause I was trying not to say the, the jubs and the dongs, but we, we got the jobs in the dons instead. I don't know where I was going with that. Fuck off. jobs
00:12:07
Speaker
Yeah.
00:12:09
Speaker
ah but yeah i don' i'm ah I want this game to... I obviously want this game to be good. like ah The feudal Japan Assassin's Creed has been a thing people have wanted since Assassin's Creed was a thing. Obviously, i the timing on this is ironic because they delayed it 12 hours after Sony revealed Ghosts of Yota, which we'll be talking about later later on. um Obviously, that probably won't be coming out in the same orbit as Assassin's Creed. I imagine that won't be ah ah that'll be a...
00:12:38
Speaker
late 2025 game, as opposed to Assassin's Creed, which would be up, you know, 45 days into the new year. But, um, yeah, just the time I got that I thought was interesting about the timing of moving it to February. And why the fuck is February, the new November where every game decides to come out in February, that release calendar is stacked. Yeah, it's and and with every year something is going to get pushed out of there. I bet. So I bet. So seven gets delayed. um but What's everybody.
00:13:05
Speaker
Like in addition to the reasons given for them moving, what it is Call of Duty releasing in November? Yeah. No, October, October, yeah his whole October. twenty fifth Yeah. November, people are are are making space for Slitterhead on November 8th. Writing is on the wall. What is the game in November? no That's what I'm curious. what What are people trying to get out of the way of? ah There is a done over black offices, October, every day. Where did, where did GTA put their flag down? Because I know there's speculation that they're going to move it anyway, but like, where is their flag currently? That's not a member. Is that next next? No, next fall. Next fall. It'll come out early 26. Don't worry. We'll be done. go should be Okay.

Sonic Crossovers: Expanding the Brand?

00:13:52
Speaker
No, they can't be getting out of the way of the PS five pro.
00:13:57
Speaker
You want to get in the way of that, if anything. Yes, that's it. The games I have on my list are Mario and Luigi Brothership and Slitterhead. Same 24 hours. That's going to be 24 hours. Has there ever been a November this bear then? Stalkers in November.
00:14:13
Speaker
but stalker doesn't feel stalker. You guys don't care about stalker stalker. That game has a ton of hype behind it. Everybody's stacked around that. It packs West like, like casual, like big, but like AAA hype, like that's gonna get either their presence under the tree and get stalker. People are going to open their presence under the tree and say, thank you mother for giving me slit her head. I mean, I kind of hope people don't open up under the tree and get a stalker, but yeah, no one wants that. Yeah.
00:14:38
Speaker
looking on Yeah. Similar 2025. That's the game everybody's moving out of the way of course. Shouldn't know a big one. Yeah. Lego horizons coming out. I'm excited for that. atletic so it's called the november Early for that.
00:14:52
Speaker
Yeah, but um it's a weird fall. The fall is, uh, yeah, it's pretty sparse. There's like a stretch of like party ass games, which I'm excited for. Like we're getting Zelda comes out tomorrow. We're getting metaphor, refantazio, silent Hill. Like there's like, obviously the brother ship, Slitterhead duo, but like those aren't for normies. Sorry for those over me. Uh, so I, yeah, I don't know. Like, yeah, we just find, you know what, this is the fall of actually weirdly enough VR.
00:15:22
Speaker
Uh, because we're getting Metro awakening, uh, we're getting alien incursion. Uh, there's another big VR game coming that I can't remember the name of cause it's VR. think that was excited for I think that's a hole in your own argument. and No, this is too many things to remember.
00:15:40
Speaker
hello Yeah, I don't like there's no buzzer on VR regardless of what's going on. I don't think anybody cares. No, there's actually like three games that I want to play an air just set it me before I could. So now air looks smart instead of me, but nobody can see that a behemoth from Skydance looks like the next really big like half like Alex level VR game. home But alien incursion measure awakening and and behemoth are like three games. I'm actually really excited to play on VR.
00:16:09
Speaker
There you go. Well, Eric showed none of them on screen, so I can't even show how cool they look. So there's no gameplay of you are going to be able to cross the desert plane. I need some reason to put on my quest headset. You know, I don't know. Aren't they releasing a new one soon? Slim headset. It's like a quest three. Yes, I just assume it's slim. I want to play that game.
00:16:38
Speaker
I was going to do nothing, nothing to the bottom of his foot. I don't want to get stuff done by that monster. Awesome. It's like, but yeah, it's, uh, next year's already, already, you know, uh, February is kicking off crazy. Sid four or seven seven on the 11th of February can come deliverance to the same day. Uh, sas great shadows on the 14th of vowed and the lost records, bloom and rage, the, uh, the, the sort of don't nod, uh, follow up to get the lay down of there.
00:17:07
Speaker
Yeah, that's supposedly the 18th. The Monster Hunter wilds got dated for the 28th of February, which is the same day that like a dragon pirates, Yakuza in Hawaii. I don't think any of those words are right. I don't know what reporter I said. Those words are coming out the same day. Some of that stuff can get delayed. and it title way Honestly, I would I would bet on Monster Hunter being delayed out of there, even though it will sell really well either way. Why Monster Hunter?
00:17:34
Speaker
Yeah, I don't think it has to move for anyone. I don't think it has to move for anybody. Arguably the biggest. No, I know that. I know that. I just feel like it's going to get moved out of there anyways. Cause outcome doesn't release the shoddy games at launch. So if it needs more time in the oven, they're going to give it to it. Um, yeah. What more on test screen shadows?
00:17:55
Speaker
when there's illumination on it. I tried tried i tried to weave it ah big and I failed ah deeply, miserably. i Really quick, one of the games I mentioned before, the other news bit is just another TGS bit was Metaphor refantazio, the upcoming ah RPG from the the core leads of Personas 3, 4, and 5, which has been That game, they are marketing, they're trying, they're trying their hardest to get people to care about. do it of Step one, we gotta change the name of this game. is It's too late for that part.
00:18:31
Speaker
um metaphor Yeah, that would have been so much better. metaphor like They both roll off the tongue. They're both sort of like fucking Yongyin nonsense. ah But it is ah getting, I think, available now on PlayStation, Xbox, and PC, a ah free prologue demo that is the opening of the game. And they listed the stuff that is in the demo.
00:18:53
Speaker
and Full disclosure, I'm playing the full game, but it is like, this is like a 10 hour demo and your save carries over. So this is just this is just beef. And this is what, Square did the same thing with Dragon Quest XI, which I thought was a great move. Like that's what got me, like I got hooked on Dragon Quest XI in that demo and as soon as it ended, I was like, yes, I will buy it and have my my progress carry over. um So I just, I highly suggest anyone who has a passing interest in Persona or fantasy RPGs, um give this give this one a DL.
00:19:25
Speaker
Because from what is in the demo? Pretty good game. That's what I say. Pretty beefy demos always encouraged for someone like me who's ah who would love to to understand the appeal of this genre, especially like the Atlas persona esque ones. um I think that's it's a great way to get me to try it. ah But I doubt I would play more than 10 hours anyway. So like it would kind of almost feel like stealing. But this is all I would play of this game regardless.
00:19:56
Speaker
it's great that that's game i I want to play and then I just think about that I haven't finished Persona 5 yet and I probably won't for another decade. So I'll play this at some point when I'm dead.
00:20:07
Speaker
It's so good. And then the last thing, ah as I promised, the big the big reveal from the Sonic Showcase. ah It is not Sonic Fall Guys, which is coming out. It's not Sonic in DC teaming up for a line of comics where all your favorite chinchillas are various members of the Justice League. No, it is the whole union between Sonic the Hedgehog and Topgolf.
00:20:31
Speaker
Topgolf, that's which for those of you who might not live in a city with Topgolf, that's a place you you go. It's like a driving range slash bar restaurant that that people go to and you yeah you hit golf balls ah to to a range. They always have little point things and the balls have like digital sensors in them. So like they they gamify it a little more. Yeah. It's like Dave and Buster's if the only arcade game was a driving game.
00:20:54
Speaker
the trick
00:20:57
Speaker
Oh, so they are partnering with Sonic and from what I gather from this trailer, certain top golfs are going to have, when you hit your ball, depending on where it lands, if you land on one of those like special zones on the driving range, you can go, you can look at your monitor and your ball has entered a Sonic zone and it starts doing Sonic shit. So let me tell you. I'm on board. It's the Sonic Zone. It's the Sonic Zone. Only if you're good enough. I feel like if you're not good at hitting all, it's not going to enter the Sonic Zone. So you just watched this unfold on a screen is the experience? In order to make it, it is a treat for you hitting the ball good. They hit the ball good. All of a sudden you're in the Sonic Zone. These companies just know how to suck money out of Marty's.
00:21:42
Speaker
Because in all honesty, like i'm intrigue right i i take I've had like a Topgolf party before. like A bunch of friends like went to Topgolf. It was a good time. um I've gone with my son before. like He had a good time. I would love to take him to a Sonic-themed Topgolf thing.
00:22:00
Speaker
But like I would like to know if it's worth it. this Because if it's just they play a video when you hit the thing, like that seems like a... When I said the ball goes in the sonic zone, is the thing I made up? hit I don't actually know if this is how it works. this suing okay so That's how it makes sense though. I also like how they use the stock footage of people who do not know what's going on. with You know what they actually have you do there is they ah have you hit the ball and they have you drop your sun down and say, go fast, go fetch it.
00:22:29
Speaker
You just have to run. of runouts of our um Yeah, very, uh, very dumb, but just the right level of trash that I'm interested. I'm intrigued. just the right and um yeah don know when they I'm also a little intrigued by the the crossover thing that you mentioned, like the DC superhero, whatever. Like I saw an image of shadow dressed as Batman and I honestly thought that art looked pretty cool, but, um,
00:22:54
Speaker
But I haven't seen any of the other stuff, but I'm very curious if you know already, just let me know. Is Sonic not the Flash? Sonic is the Flash. Sonic is the Flash. Okay, so who the hell is everybody else? Because everyone's just fast. Just various degrees are fast. Amy is Wonder Woman, Knuckles is Superman, Tails is... Knuckles is Superman. Green Lantern, I think.
00:23:14
Speaker
You know what, that tracks. I can see that. He's an inventor. He has an imagination. yeah Exactly. It's being written by the guy who, I think his name's Ian Flynn, who like, it's like ah the Sonic lore master. people and trust this I'm sorry. Tails is Cyborg in this picture. Oh, Tails is Cyborg. Who's? Oh, Green Lantern's Silver Sonic.
00:23:33
Speaker
Silver? silver yeah yeah I don't know. I know of Silver. I don't know who Silver is. He was in Sonic 06. He was the one who was mad at Sonic for kissing a human woman. As he should be. You know what? I'm team Silver. Our species, are we not good enough for you? um Yeah, but it's being yeah being written. I believe his name's Ian Flynn, who's a who's like the Sonic. He does good Sonic. He's written good Sonic and people like him. All right.
00:23:57
Speaker
There you go. Congrats, Sonic. Congrats, Shadow. You're the hedgehog. I don't know why everyone's weirded out. We're just talking about Topgolf. We're just talking about Topgolf and Sonic. It's just normal stuff. You've lost me when you started saying Sonic were other characters, and my brain went to muscle. I mean, it's Sonic and crossovers, right?
00:24:19
Speaker
we you We had this conversation on and off, right? Like who's kind of like the king or queen of just their IP being crossed over. And like we were, I can't remember who we were thinking was like out in front, but clearly it's Sonic now, right? Like there's nothing else that has more- Although I didn't send it to you today. You know who's coming to Brawlhalla? Who's coming to Brawlhalla? Who's your favorite? Mega Man. Mega Man's there. What? Did you meet Mega Man? Is Mega Man going to come to your office? I'm not going to say that. I forgot. That's a Ubisoft game. I can't say anything about that.
00:24:50
Speaker
Dr. Mega Man D6. What if Mega Man came to Mega Man? That'd be nice. That'd be pretty cool. Mega Man came to Mega Man. That's really cute art. I like that art. It is really cute. Is that how he looks in the game? I doubt it. ah no is It looks nice. Remember when they remade Mega Man 1 for like the PSP and he was kind of chibi a little bit? Yes. Yeah, I do remember that. Mega Man powered up, I think that was called? Powered up. That's what it was called. Yeah, that was neat.
00:25:19
Speaker
Um, a couple of super chats also came in, saucy guru, SPS guru changed his name to saucy guru. And it's just very confusing every time I read it. did your odono nii said much They need to release outlaws on steam. They also, they announced Star Wars outlaws is coming to steam in November. I want to say November 21st at some point.
00:25:37
Speaker
Yeah, so that's good. And I know they've been working on a lot of a lot of folks. I actually haven't had any technical problems yet. um Knock on wood. But a lot of folks had some technical problems with the game. but There was like a big thing where like save files got borked like the opening. I think ironically for people who.
00:25:53

did the, like, if you bought the fancy edition, you got to play three days earlier, which I think they also said they're getting rid of that for AC shadows. Like there's still going to be sort of like a season pass in a deluxe edition thing, but I don't think there's going to be really access, which is good. I think that's bad. I think it's bad across the board, even though I did it for games. Cause I'm an idiot, but I think it's bad. Don't be like, that's a, that's a, I've always thought that was a shitty business practice. Yeah.
00:26:18
Speaker
yeah know or know And everybody gets the first expansion for Assassin's Creed, Jettos for free. that but three ninety nine Or was that the people who? No, I thought it was the preorder thing. It's like they had that or yeah, maybe. No, they said they're refunding preorders. They're refunding the preorders and then reopening them.

Uh, without the horniness. So, uh, they're following the shadows thing. Uh, if you, so they're going to refund the pre-orders that have gone in. PlayStation's State of Play Highlights

00:29:40
Speaker
is a perfect way for us to segue into our main topic ah Which is the PlayStation state of play that aired ah aired yesterday it was about 30 35 minutes ah and they showed off a ton just a ton of games it was from a if you just get rid of
00:29:57
Speaker
What you thought of the games themselves like ah a nice put together presentation of just game like almost has that nintendo direct feel where it's just game game game game Very few talking heads. The talking heads are just a segue into game Uh, so I guess starting with the big thing obviously was what they showed at the end, which is uh ghost of yotai Which is the sequel to ghost of sushima? Um not following, uh jin anymore this game takes place 300 years later on a new part of japan, uh with with a brand new, uh with a about brand new satellite go protagonist. Yeah. I was going to say, Sam, I think they're Sam, right right? They seem more like a wandering Ronin and she's a Ronin, but she's got son's got her. Ronin were mentioned. I don't know if if she herself is a Ronin, but like what else would she be? Right? she just the The guy, the guy says like all the Ronin are hunting, you know? Oh, but if but the hunt maybe that's cause you're not a Ronin or you're a fake Ronin, who'd see us Ronin? Here's Sam, a Ronin.
00:30:54
Speaker
Sam, that sounds delicious. Looks fucking cool. I don't know. It just looks like the sequel to Ghost of Tsushima. It feels like they should have shown this off a week earlier when they showed off the PS5 Pro. They should have said that. Yeah. Add press.
00:31:10
Speaker
Yeah. Cause this is one of those games where, Oh, this is going to be like a next gen ass game coming out next year. This could help them push that hardware. If they say, Hey, we really kicked up all the the graphics with his bad boys. So you want to play it at its best. Better to get that PS5 pro. Folks would have ate that up. Yeah, they they got me with it.
00:31:28
Speaker
ah hate you zoning please go for this oh yeah like i was a little lukewarm on the original grade i'm gonna shima i'm gonna sell my p s five so that i'm not spending eight hundred dollars on this thing cause i gotta get the disk drive too but ah yeah i mean like you use the distrust you were lukewarm on go suushima go oh yeah we have like buttons before like I I played through it all on stream ah solo and I thought the story was great, but the game itself is just really bare bones. But like, I love the idea of a second go at it. Like I like make all like same thing when uncharted first uncharted was real kind of.
00:32:05
Speaker
bare bones as an action adventure thing. That's kind of how I felt about Ghost of Tsushima. Yeah. I think Yotei will probably add to what they had there and didn't make it the game that I think it should have been in first place. Yeah. Yeah. I think that's that's a great way to put it. I mean, look at the jump from Assassin's Creed to Assassin's Creed 2 or Uncharted, Uncharted 2. We have a bunch of infamous to infamous too. Like I think it's, yeah, like have your first game kind of be like a sloppy copy and then, then, you know,
00:32:34
Speaker
Uh, then kill it with a second one. Looks great. Yeah. I like the fact that some people are mad that they're like, Jen had more story to tell them. I don't know. I would kind of always rather have like, didn't but completes the whole hero's journey. yeah like he really did that What the hell are you talking about? Yeah. Like, no, this is like, the Shogun is the same way. The series like Shogun kind of ends and they're like, we're doing another season of it. I'm like, just go to another point in yeah in Japan history. Just go anywhere. Like, you know, we don't need to follow the same characters. Just give me a new cool adventure and, and Uh, yeah, trailer looks really cool. I'm a, I'm a big, uh, big, big fan of this. So, uh, I really liked that the vibe of the trailer is a spaghetti Western mixed with seminary. That has me really interested because it's yeah there's two sides of the same coin. Honestly. Yeah, they were both inspired. Um, but like, yeah, uh,
00:33:25
Speaker
The first, or Ghost of Tsushima wasn't didn't really have the Western themes in it. And this one, just the music alone had the the Western theme in it. And I was like, okay. So I liked it. You show up at the edge of an encampment and you call everybody out to come see you. That's Western. Like that that is full of Western energy. Also, you know what the best part of the trailer was, which we just saw again, all those horses. Really? I just like that she has a shamisen on her back. I feel like we're going to get to play that a lot.
00:33:51
Speaker
What is that? Is that the guitar? I keep calling it guitars. It's what's making the sound that you hear. The string yeah instrument sound. It's a Shambi sound. Yeah. And you know what? The string is probably made of horse hair. You know what? You're probably right. But the use back then, uh, it looks cool. Uh, does not have a date is just 2025. Uh, and for folks, this is like the proper followup to go to Sushimo. Some folk people were like, Oh, is this almost like a miles Morales, like 1.5 kind of thing? No, this is. Yeah. They're doing it. Did they say that? Yeah. They're doing an analogy series. They're not doing direct sequels.
00:34:23
Speaker
Yeah. So this is like the court, because I mean, the game came out, uh, summer, 2020, the original one. So that was over four years ago. Oh my God. Yeah. Yeah. It moves. It moves quickly. Are they still working on that movie? Yep. The John Wick guy behind it. Yeah. Yeah. That's what they said. Yeah. Can I wait for that? I'd watch that.
00:34:46
Speaker
Um, yeah, it looks cool. Uh, some of the other things announced, uh, obviously some smaller things. Uh, they announced free DLC coming to Astro bot, uh, later on in the year, which is going to include new special bots. Uh, like they showed characters from hell divers and characters from, uh, uh, what was the first game everyone was mad at this year? Stellar blade.
00:35:07
Speaker
that definitely wasn't the first game everyone was bad at, but one of the games ever wrote was bad at. And then also a bunch of speedrun levels, which looks really cool. So I'm very excited for that. um So those in in my mind, those are like, okay, these are, these are the cool triple A Sony things. And then Sony, Also, as as they want to do, they showed off ah smaller games that are coming. You know, they're coming to all all platforms and everything, but shown off here ah stuff, including ah old games coming back, which obviously I get really excited for. Like I said, Cain Soul Reaver one and two remastered, you know, coming to PlayStation and everything else. ah Those are the games that like Amy Hennig kind of cutter chops on before heading over to Uncharted. Some of the best storytelling of the PS1 era. Like I think honestly just right behind Metal Gear Solid and and some JRPGs in terms of story. So again, cool that these are going to be able to be, ah you know, these aren't full on FF7 kind of remakes, but um looks like very playable. I really want to play those games. Like I've only ever heard good things about them. And I think I tried to load up
00:36:09
Speaker
The first one through emulation, like the controls were just really bad. So I'm excited for the remaster. I want to say Yatsi mentioned that, too, that he recently tried to go back to either this or its previous one. He was thinking about doing it for and a retro review. And it's just but he he couldn't. like It was kind of unplayable. Yeah. Yeah.
00:36:29
Speaker
ah Yeah, also, ah Lunar 1 and 2 are coming back if those are beloved JRPGs of the PS1 era that again are not playable on any any normal S hardware. I guess there's like phone versions. I'm not playing shit on my phone. Get the fuck out of here. watch somebody to your phone Oh, that's true. Nick, you also mentioned they did show off a surprising amount of PSVR stuff. um Yeah. As in like a couple of things, but felt kind of ah surprising, you know, like the fact that they were remembered exists. Yeah. Yeah. That they remember that exists. The Metro Metro Awakening, the Hitman World of Assassin's VR thing. um You know, pretty, pretty, pretty neat. like see you own that The Hitman one does look cool.
00:37:12
Speaker
Yeah, it's in and it's, yeah, that hitman VR has been out for a while, but they've been working on like ah a revamp of it because it wasn't very good. Uh, so this is like, no idea was out. Oh yeah. It's been, it's been out for a year. Yeah. It's been a while to VR thing. Yeah. But I just, it was really lackluster. Yeah. Yeah.
00:37:31
Speaker
Um, yeah, also, obviously that's, we mentioned Monster Hunter wilds getting dated for the end of February. Uh, power world is coming to PlayStation. Finally. Um, uh, just be just stellar blade, uh, uh, to be from near autobot is coming to there and.
00:37:48
Speaker
It always makes me think of, there was an interview with Yoko Taro, the creator of Nier, where they asked how these collaborations come about, and he just said, ah a will put her just if you pass money, you can put it in anything. It doesn't matter. Did you see that the the account literally retweeted that?
00:38:07
Speaker
it' Like with with the trailer for this was like we'll do anything for money like i like just be honest It's so great like its like yeah, yeah fine put her in fucking anything. That's why I just passed Deeply appreciate that that honesty and then one of the one of the cool new games that I had never heard of ah well, I think it was revealed was a midnight walk and which, um, looked very much like, uh, almost looked like it's, it's coming up to both VR and non-VR, but looked very much almost like a, like a kind of a fucked up Tim Burton dark fairy tale, a little like small dude in a big world that's trying to kill him. Like kinda, uh, a little bit, uh, uh, little nightmares vibes to it. Uh, that looked, that looked really cool. I was, I was very, very excited for that. Um, very excited for hell is us.
00:38:54
Speaker
Hell's Us. Yeah. Yeah. What was, uh, that was, I was very confused by the name just because I feel like things have been called Hell's Us before. It's like really? i Yeah. It's like sci-fi post-apocalypse, uh, soul's like, but it's, it's a mirror like SCP vibes. like yeah it's goingnna very control libe could Yeah. Yeah. Very much. Yeah. Yeah. I've been, I've been keeping an eye on that game for a long time. Oh yeah. I hadn't heard of it until yesterday.
00:39:24
Speaker
Yeah, they I think they tease it at the Game Awards a couple of years ago. Oh, cool. Well, I'm excited to see that one. got a date And then there was the ah yeah the the arcade, that new arcade game that got announced that looked really cool on trailer. Turns out it's like a MMO. ah Great. Wait, wait. Yeah. How was that? How was this an m MMO? And I actually I looked at the combat in that and was very impressed. Oh, it was a play like that.
00:39:52
Speaker
I don't know if that's the thing I never you never know with these um MMOs because like they look really good on screen like that and then they play you know very janky MMO but also like and A lot of them, like a lot of these fancier MMOs now are are like getting way more into that kind of third-person action combat instead of traditional point-and-click stuff. which Yeah, which I support. like because do Do more of that. Yeah, like Throne of Liberty plays so much more like an action combat game than just a point-and-click thing, and and New World plays like an action combat game, so they're getting, you know, the tech is there now, I think, to really pull that stuff off in an MMO environment.
00:40:29
Speaker
But but don that you know yeah that article shame is is a, when it, when it's actually playable and I see somebody play it, I'll believe it right now. It's E yeah. <unk>point it wasn the players It looks really cool. Yeah. Like that looks more like gameplay than a lot of other games that claim that they're you know strictly combat focus. I one character, third person in action focus. Yeah.
00:40:59
Speaker
but this is gameplay. Like those, like this, that actually did look like gameplay to me. So I, I'm very concerned now if it's an MMO. Can't believe anything. Yeah. It's like, is it cake? like Shit. I don't know if it's cake or not. Can't trust this.
00:41:14
Speaker
Yeah, the the

Sony's Remaster Strategy: Necessary or Not?

00:41:15
Speaker
publisher is also working on the Kakko games, Kakyo games or something. And also working on that Corona Odyssey game, which has been shown off a few times. that That one looks really impressive, too. So I don't know. Those are definitely games I need to see, like somebody have their hands on a controller. Yeah, they ah they got to finish them. ah Because we actually we actually checked out some of their publisher's games at PAX West. they They're the same publisher of ah Lost Idol ones.
00:41:42
Speaker
Available the witch which Casey you and I checked out. Oh, yeah. Okay. Yeah So I'm not sure where all that money's coming from but we'll see No yeah little bit i don't want to see They kind of sprinkled just a ah little bit of little bit of stuff for everyone. they They put a release date on Fear of the Spotlight, which is the first ah indie horror game coming from the Blumhouse horror label. Coming out on October 22nd for full disclosure, i did I did some consulting work on the game, so i admire my opinion doesn't matter. But if you like old PS1, PS2 era horror games, it's it's very cool.
00:42:20
Speaker
Also, my opinion doesn't matter there. There you go. It's got those those pixel wobbles that PlayStation folks love so much. of those wos god but you mahi Do I love those wobbles? um But then, ah so the announcement that when I'm saying Sony showed us the the good, showed us the weird, ah the Horizon Zero Dawn remaster is coming out on Halloween. This is Horizon Zero Dawn 2017's Horizon Zero Dawn for the PS4, which already has like PS5 upgrades, ah is getting remastered for the PS5. And they're showing side by sides and they're like, we have rerecorded performances and dialogue.
00:43:03
Speaker
um And I just don't understand why this is happening and why time and effort is being put into this and not anything else. I don't get it. know No. like with the lamin the devils never give it one Well, sorry, what did you say, Nick? I'm going to play devil's advocate for once on this podcast. All right. Uh, I mean, it's a Nixon's project. That's what they were literally bought to do is or, and remaster things for Sony, but this is why this, why this?
00:43:39
Speaker
Yeah, I'm obviously fine with ports and remasters and especially ah if a game is not available on a piece of hardware, like port it and remaster it to that piece of hardware. Like I just we were talking about the legacy of game games and Luna are like, that's great. Like those games aren't here. So he has games in their library that aren't. They have resistance. They have Killzone. They have infamous they have bloodborne bloodborne. like I just don't understand why this game, which already looks and runs just fine.
00:44:09
Speaker
I'll give you another reason Herman Holst is co-CEO of Sony and there's this was that baby. Yeah, this game's a Nepo baby. Um, like, uh, I, you know, I understood it happening with the last of us. And a lot of people were like, why the fuck is the last of us getting a PS five version? And I understood it was to tie in. I mean, I guess maybe that's the thought here. Cause the last of us one, and I assumed it was to tie in with the show and then you get a bunch of people who who watch the HBO show and they're like, shit, I want to play this game. And then.
00:44:41
Speaker
you know, they want the freshest and newest version on the new piece of hardware, um, that, that folks can check out. So maybe it's a similar thing because horizon is, is being adapted as well. But, um, but you could just, but they're not even timing with the show. So, but even if they, even if they had like, you could just play,
00:45:01
Speaker
like the original one on a PS5, like with no issues. Like you need to buy from the store. Yeah. You could do the same with the last of us. Like there was the PS4 version of the last of us that could run just fine on PS5. Okay. So yeah, same, same difference. Like what the hell are you doing? Yeah. Yeah. Um, yeah, they did the same. They also did another. Yeah. I forgot to do the PC version. Spider-Man remastered to make like one kind of play like Miles Morales and two. Um,
00:45:29
Speaker
I don't know. That's the part about Sony. like like yeah ah like Clearly, I love Sony exclusives and all that stuff. and they're like they They push hardware forward and make beautiful games. and so I don't think anybody's getting denied on that, but this is like the part about Sony that does annoy me. is like First of all, yes, you could go back and if you can remaster some stuff, like go back and re remaster like infamous two or if they have a series in general or or resistance or whatever, like bring your bring your classic catalog forward. Kind of like you mentioned in full aromatic today, like you just yeah, you're you're using Astrobot to highlight all your history. But like, where is that history? where It's just sitting. You can't even play access it anymore. um The other part, too, is like
00:46:16
Speaker
You know, when we look at Microsoft and like just look at variety of games they have coming and, you know, there's a lot of the criticisms like, oh, well, Val does look good. And, you know, it's not visually pretty enough. It's like, and like visuals don't make a game better. I just want good games out of Sony. Like, I don't know. Horizon is good, but it's not like one games. Games. Yeah. It's not like a classic game.
00:46:42
Speaker
Yeah, I don't know. I just vary between this and Concorde and stuff like that. Just some weird decisions that just feel really cynical with Sony and more reminiscent of like the PS3 era lately. but we've in a plan <unk>s It's giving off like a real sense of fear from Sony. like Like anytime they try to dip their toe into something that's a little new, something that's a little out there,
00:47:11
Speaker
as soon as it doesn't pay back exactly, you know, in, in space, like the ways previous things have, like they pull back immediately. Like Concord, of course, is the best example of that. But then the stuff that has done well, they continuous, they just continue to lean on it as much as they can. Like they don't have a new horizon in the works that they can show. So like, just bring the old ones. Like were we don't have a, ah you don't have a new Spider-Man yet. Just bring the old ones. Same thing with like Last of Us. Like it's,
00:47:41
Speaker
They're just hanging on to the success, like the overwhelming success of the last generation. It's like they they're too scared to mess it up this time because like they really are just out in front with no one around them and it's their game to lose. So like, let's just do what we did last time. Like they they don't want to kind of steer the direction of the industry, it feels like. Yeah. Yeah. and yeah don't I don't know. what is No one wants to pick up the mantle. Yeah. I mean, everyone's afraid of it.
00:48:08
Speaker
the other side of the coin, I guess. I mean, obviously the less of us have the TV show to tie to it, but there must be enough people that want a remaster for them to put the money in or maybe not. I think on Monday's windbreaker, but people are like, well, why don't they, well, why does a naughty dog go back and make Jack and Daxter and, uh, the, the,
00:48:29
Speaker
The thing is, like the Jak and Daxter, all of the games combined, which I think is five games, it's three regular games, a Daxter spin-off, and Jak X, the racing game, has sold about 13 million copies total. The Last of Us won across PS3, PS4, and PS5, has sold something like 30 million. so that It's also because more more people have consoles now than ever before.
00:48:55
Speaker
but didn't you like the, like one of the best selling consoles ever. Yeah. but nobody dog needs Also say that they didn't want to do that. Like that they, they themselves just weren't interested in revisiting Jack. Yeah. Yeah. Well, and you saw, I think you saw it with, uh, you saw it with, um, where they, they insomniac put out ratchet and clank and
00:49:22
Speaker
it's going to be Spider-Man. It's going to be Venom. It's going to be Wolverine. Um, cause those things are going to print money and they're very good. I like the Spider-Man games quite a bit. I'm really excited to see what to do with Wolverine. Um, but, uh, yeah, have they, they haven't released any sales numbers on Astrobo yet, have they? Um, no, which makes me think it's not,
00:49:47
Speaker
Yeah. So it was kind of like somebody's kind of cornered themselves with the type of market that they built for themselves, which is yeah I liked for a long time. I just liked to see some more variety. I don't know. It was like, yeah, I really loved that new Ratchet and Clank game. I'm sure I love Astrobot. Like I like when Sony gets really open and creative with their stuff. Yeah. Like I just, I play Astrobot. I'm like this, this team, they turned this game around and in three and a half years. yeah And I

The Need for Creative Risks in Gaming

00:50:13
Speaker
just wish that they would allow more of their teams to just like,
00:50:16
Speaker
make a thing like that. Um, but I don't know. Those things don't sell at the volume that they need. They they need the block. That's also part of it. Those
00:50:32
Speaker
They don't need it if they just stop investing so much money and in the projects that are ever going to make that money back, like make smaller games again. Well, sure. Yes. That that would be the solution to this. But ah again, like the return just wouldn't be anywhere near what they need to justify just any of their existences. Yeah. No. They're too big. yeah Everybody's too big.
00:50:57
Speaker
Yeah, it's a bummer. A couple of stupid chats that came in, one related to that one, one not. Amy with a five dollar don't know. Thank you so much. My main takeaway from the state of play, they remembered that Lunar exists. It has been decades since we've heard from that franchise. ah Yeah, which is it's it's good. Listen, I am all for that era of games. If if they're not easily available on stuff, just put them like we're getting to sweep it in. We got the Grandia games, like all those weirdo games, you know, gears, let us fucking crucified choo choo.
00:51:28
Speaker
Chuchu is your your animal companion friend in Xenogears and, spoilers, Chuchu gets crucified at one point and it's a tough break for her. Well, everyone gets crucified, including Chuchu, but Chuchu's the funny looking one who gets crucified because she looks like a Furby being crucified. That's only the second game I've been made aware of that features crucifixion. What's first? Wasn't it Cyberpunk?
00:51:51
Speaker
yeah like but There's got to be more games with crucifixion. Yeah. I'm getting combos day. Oh my God. Spoilers. check your mouth could you I don't know if who spoiled either cyberpunk or choo choo spoiled it. Choo choo was also the person who got um crucified in cyberpunk. It was the part of the choo choo DLC.
00:52:16
Speaker
Uh, and then, uh, Lucas McGuire with 10 Australian dollars. Thank you so much, Lucas. Uh, never get to watch any of these streams live. Marty, please use this as a note for the rewind and to get your thoughts on megalopolis and the substance. Substance was a wildest viewing experience in ages. Megalopolis was bad. Uh, I'm very, I'm sure we'll talk about both those both of those next week. I'd seen the substance agreed. I fucking loved it. It was, it was batshit crazy. Uh, give Demi Moore an Oscar. Um, and I'm excited to see Megalopolis this weekend. Uh, and I've heard it's terrible.
00:52:46
Speaker
I'm very excited.
00:52:50
Speaker
Didn't all this stuff just come out about the director of that movie being real weird with women on set? Yeah, he's a weirdo. He's a bad dude. Doesn't matter. It's fine. It's fine. He made the Godfather. And he's related to Nick Cage, right? Yes. He's the most famous director ever. He made the Godfather in Apocalypse Now.
00:53:10
Speaker
I wasn't watching movies back then. Aaron, where are you? Aaron, wake up. I need you. I need you, Darren. My thing about Megalopolis, though, is there's a scene in the movie where Adam Driver, who's the main character of the movie, addresses the audience, and then an audience member goes to the front of the theater and starts speaking to Adam Driver on the screen. And that's only certain experiences. And Saddam Prairie, Wisconsin, does not have any of those experiences.
00:53:38
Speaker
So you know what I want to do? So what happens in your theater? um like is Or is it a different cut? I'm going to see it once. I'm going to stick around for the second screening and I'll be the guy. I'll be the guy who scuds up in front of the screening and yells at Adam Driver. That has to be like a specific cut of the movie, right? I think so. Because otherwise, most theaters would would be like, what the fuck is going on here?
00:54:03
Speaker
It says to look into the director of jeepers creepers. The guy that directed the godfather did not direct jeepers creepers. Yeah, the guy directed the godfather. He's a goddamn monster. Okay. Who directed jeepers creepers? A monster. Why they're not the same person. The Francois Coppola did not direct jeepers creepers. That's what I was trying to find out. You just kept saying they were monsters. I got so excited that my camera went out of focus.
00:54:28
Speaker
Don't you guys hate it when you get so excited on a podcast that your camera goes how to focus so you don't know how to fix it yeah can't contain it? i will Okay. I've seen the governor. I've seen apocalypse now. I just didn't remember the director chill out yet. Hey, see, I don't know if he's seen them. You can yell at him. ah Yeah. I've seen the Godfather. I'll yell at both of you. You can't like watch cable TV and not see the Godfather. It's always on challenge accepted. You know what I like when it's on.
00:54:55
Speaker
Lord of the Rings. Face off. I like when face offs on TV. so i feel like it's a good now that's not That's a classic movie. That's cinema. Oh, Francis Ford got the guy who directed Jeepers creepers the job. So they're connected in some way. ah yeah Is this like, are we trying to gotcha the, the Francis Ford Coppola and the jeepers creep? No, I just didn't know why they were related.
00:55:23
Speaker
That's when Chad gets involved in the podcast and they confuse us. No, just roll through it. Don't just reach. I was curious. And I got my answer. I didn't yell at anybody. Where are we going to get a face off to? um Are we still getting a face off to? Aren't they working on it now? Yeah. Like I feel like I heard something about that. Yeah. Recently. Like not like when face off was relevant.
00:55:51
Speaker
I'm pretty sure it's still being worked on, right? Did you know we're getting a happy Gilmore too? Yeah, that's going to be stupid. good
00:56:00
Speaker
just that just Have Adam Sandler make more new stuff. That's been going great. Hubie Halloween. I got a bad four. I'm very excited in October

Demos and Player Engagement

00:56:09
Speaker
for my annual Hubie Halloween viewing. If anyone wants to join me on All Hubies Day, we'll be watching Hubie Halloween. All Hubies Eve. All Hubies Eve.
00:56:19
Speaker
you That's what Sony should do. They should remaster Hubie Halloween. Oh God. They got to buy it first. yeah i don't And I don't think Stanley wants to sell. Hubie Halloween is one of the funniest jokes. This is the spoiler joke in Hubie Halloween. The kind of like the narrator of the movie is they keep cutting back to like the the overnight radio DJ at the radio station in town. And it just has this like sexy, like Foxy c Cleopatra voice to it. And it's like, like just real, like real smooth. And you're like, Oh, who is this? And finally they go to the radio station and it's Shaq.
00:56:51
Speaker
but but god um such a good such a good deal like our papa john's pizza was good ah sugarely check great Uh, and then, uh, quintuple a with a $2 down. Oh, thank you so much. So the demo on metaphor sold me more demos, please. See quintuple knows what's going on. I put that in my impact video, but demos are essential these days. The games do not have a demo. Yeah.
00:57:20
Speaker
Uh, more demos, please. Uh, speaker demos. What have you guys been, been watching, playing whatnots? Uh, I can start, I guess I stumbled into, um, a new animated series on Netflix, like this brand new, like in the top 10 and everything. And I had no idea is a Zack Snyder joint called Twilight of the gods. Yeah. They really like shoveing za that stuff down my throat on Netflix. You're like, like, I,
00:57:51
Speaker
Like Netflix was like showing off like like a quick little teaser of the show and like it really dragged me in. Like that very short teaser of like this opening combat encounter. Like really draw me because like beautiful animation, like great, like cinematography and like action set piece and stuff. I'm like, Ooh, what is this? Let me find, let me see more. Yeah. They popped up. I was like, Oh shit, what's going on here? But like they like, they're throwing in the fact that like, Oh, visionary director behind 300. So like it's in that same kind of vein, like historical Epic, but you know, high fantasy version, whatever. So you know what? And it's animated. I can, I can, I can deal with this. And honestly, I was very pleasantly surprised. Like it's a, it's a good story. Great voice work.
00:58:31
Speaker
um And again, incredible like action, like animated set pieces. Like this, this, it's essentially a story of kind of Norse gods screwing people over as, you know, most can't they want to do. Yeah. Like ah it's this guy who's kind of like the, the prince of a village. He meets this lady who, um, is like a child of giants. Uh, they fall in love on the battlefield. They try to get married and it's like they're from two different cultures. So like the gods may not be too favorable about this, but on their wedding day, Thor comes down looking for Loki and just fucks shit.
00:59:07
Speaker
yeah like for no real reason other than they were in his way and so the husband and the would-be husband and wife they like of course their wedding day was ruined and actually get married like they managed to survive this massacre And the woman's secret, in particular, vows vengeance on on Thor and just any other gods who want to stop her. And like she goes on this kind of quest to like collect, ah like help people, resources, weaponry, like stuff that can get the job done. And like she just turned like she was already kind of like a badass, but you can you see her turn to like this this really vengeful,
00:59:43
Speaker
like stone cold person with just like her would be husband sticking by her side for the sake of you know he loves her but like seeing her become kind of a different person all the while. um And then like they get mixed up in all these other people's stories and they all have like their own beefs with gods or, you know, with tribes or whatever. And like, it's, it's really, really compelling. Like you learn a lot in a very quick amount of time about just a bunch of Norse mythology and stuff, like a bunch of Norse character. And I don't know if this stuff is like pulled straight from the books or it's just its own sort of, you know, retelling. I'm, I'm, I'm probably sure that like, just, hey, just a version of Norse stuff. Yeah. um But like it, it ends,
01:00:21
Speaker
like super climactically, um but it's on a cliffhanger. Like, it's like, I kind of need to see what happens next. Yeah. and twenty oh But maybe because it's Zack Snyder, I mean, the rebel moon got a second one, right?
01:00:38
Speaker
I think they were already like it in for a penny, in for a pound with that. Yeah, like did this was really good. like like I liked it a lot. So anyone who's into like animation and like maybe just Norse mythology and stuff, but you give it a look. like It was really good. And it's ah is just like a 10 episode season? Yeah, yeah, yeah. Like quick 10 episodes. Are they beef, like 20 minute episodes or like hour long episodes? But the animations are probably like 25 minutes. Yeah, 30. Yeah. Gotcha. Yeah. You been playing and watching anything else?
01:01:07
Speaker
Uh, yeah, turn the watch. I put down combat sports here. Cause I just realized I've been kind of dabbling into a bunch of just very random, like competitive, not TV. Cause I'm watching, I'm watching streams. I'm watching like YouTube channels, or whatever. I stumbled across a Twitch streamer who just rebroadcasts. Sumo matches. Oh hell yeah. And he like commentates them for like, for the English viewers.
01:01:34
Speaker
So he's telling me stuff about like the fighters, their history, like whatever their beefs are, what their goals are. oh And then giving me like insight into like what the moves are when they do like the actual sumo wrestling and stuff. So I was i was captivated because after watching that series, ah Sanctuary, which I still don't know if that's going to get a second season. so um like I learned a lot about just the inner politics of sumo.
01:01:56
Speaker
and It's like kind of one for one, like it was a very good representation because the stuff that guy was saying, the stuff I was seeing was just literally what I learned from that TV show. And it is very interesting to actually, like if once you understand at a base level, like what this competition is, it's super interesting to watch. Like I could see myself getting into like watching Sumo.
01:02:16
Speaker
cause Like this real technique, this real strategy, like and they're just dope ass matches on display here. ah So that was fun. But I also stumbled across a YouTube channel that was just a reality show of like a bunch of just martial artists from across the the world. I don't know what the show is called because it's like a YouTube series, but the channel is a martial arts journey.
01:02:37
Speaker
And like the titles are things like, oh, six martial artists are locked in a room with a knife attacker or six martial artists ah have to survive a bar fight or whatever. And the competition is each of these martial artists are put in a scenario and they're scored and judged on how well their self-defense like instincts kick in and in regards to the scenario. So like it's not just a straight up beat everybody up in the bar type thing. It's a, Yeah. Oh, were you able to deescalate the fight? Were you able to keep the friend who was with you in the bar safe after he got you in trouble? Like, were you able to, um, not, not escalate the situation as it like, basically you start throwing like possibly lethal attacks at someone that can get you in trouble trouble afterwards because like the follow up to the bar episode was them having to talk to a fake police officer and explain what happened during the fight. And I thought that was hilarious.
01:03:28
Speaker
That's the opening of Con Air. Nicholas Cage gets arrested for for manslaughter, for killing a dude during the bar fight. Yeah. so it's like it's They are really trying to simulate, like, hey, if you get into a scenario like this with your skill, are you making the right decisions? And I think that was it's a really cool cool way to look at self-defense in general, because like no it's not about just beating everybody up. It's about keeping yourself safe and the people around you safe, and still being like a decent human and in the citizen of the world. That's like real, that's some real anime shit there of like, I am very power. Like Goku's like, I'm very powerful, but I need to know how to use it. And violence is the last resort. Yeah. Vinland saga in real life. Yeah. Yeah. That's the Vinland saga arc. And in terms of like playing, uh, yes, I'm still playing ZZZ and lots of it. Um,
01:04:17
Speaker
A big update is dropping soon or has just dropped, I think. Like, yeah, I think I just downloaded the brand new update. It had a big showcase thing and a big controversial thing. I don't know if any other folks have been playing or are aware. um they're They're making a big change within that game. And that's the the the less active part of the game, which is what they call the monitor array or TV mode, which is where instead of you actually playing with the characters you you pick up, you're sort of navigating an avatar through like a bunch of CRT TV screens and you're solving puzzles and they're telling you story through that. Like that's kind of their conceit for navigation because ah they don't have like open worlds and stuff that you explore.
01:05:01
Speaker
And I thought it was like personally, like i I like it. Like I understand the purpose it serves and it breaks up the action moment to moment. But a lot of folks hated it. So they're they're ripping it out. Like they're like they're getting rid of it in most of the instances that it exists. um Like it's not gone completely, ah but they're also speeding it up because they used to take a like there's a lot of animation and and and set dressing and stuff around it as well that they're just speeding up to like. So when it it does show up, folks don't have to deal with as much of it.
01:05:32
Speaker
um But on top of that, they're adding like more actual gameplay outside of the combat stuff. So I actually experienced this very recently on the most recent like story thing I was doing, where they actually linked a bunch of the levels together and had me like running around talking to like a soldier who was then telling me, like leading me forward, and like they were like actually shooting enemies while I was fighting him in the arena.

Gaming Experiences and Social Responsibility

01:05:56
Speaker
And then ah eventually I got into this weird situation where like um They, like this one soldier who was getting me to like walk around with him, betrayed me, and then I had to fight him afterwards. So like this, they're like slowly making this like a ah full video game.
01:06:12
Speaker
as opposed to like sort of sectioned off pieces of the game. That's cool. That's what you wanted, right? Yeah, yeah, yeah. I like where they're going with this. and And it's funny because I didn't realize that that was something that could happen with this, that they could eventually just start to make this a much more conventional thing. Because even this most recent new chapter that's coming, they're adding like like kind of these racing sections.
01:06:34
Speaker
And like that just wasn't stuff that was in the game before. So like it's exciting to think that as they come up with the new chapters and introduce new characters and new areas, that you'll just get new games, like just new mini games, new side games, just new activities to complement the already like very, very fun and flashy combat. So like um like I've been in, ah in terms of ZZZ, they continuously are pulling me back in. like I see no reason to to slow down at this point.
01:07:03
Speaker
and You got CZZ fever. and ah yeah um You know, yeah for all the live service out there, that that company ah your universe just gets it. Back into the games and not like collecting them stagnate. Yeah. They also donate to charity. I think that's important to say like that. that well Like that company's mantra is with Otaku saving the world.
01:07:27
Speaker
i like And like they, they actively try to make sure that they are doing good on top of like making a ton of money from gambling addicts. Yeah. So I don't know. I respect them. I like what they do. I've had a lot of fun with the game. I wonder if they're, I wonder if they ever will do a conventional non-gotcha game. Maybe. I mean, but these make so much money. Like what would be the point? I guess I could just keep hiring people, but that's like how we can one company manage because they have four already. Yeah.
01:07:57
Speaker
If not more, I think they mourned four. Do they? I just know of Genshin, Honkai, and ZZZ. Oh, there's two Honkai's. There's Honkai Star Rail and Honkai Third Impact. But I'm pretty, but I think that one has been adapted from mobile games and they still have a couple of mobile games in that Honkai Impact i did series as well. Because they did mobile first before they went to console. Right. Yeah. So, yeah, they've got a a lot of shit going on. But they're just printing money, that company. There you go.
01:08:30
Speaker
Yeah. Of the three, I think ZZZ is raking in the least amount of money, but it's still like a lot of money. I bet. I bet it'll start bringing in more when they make it more of a conventional game because obviously, you know, like you said, people hate that menu thing. If, if people start seeing it as more just a game and not just gotcha, gotcha.
01:08:54
Speaker
Yeah. And the same way though, like, uh, what's a conscience, like a big old, like you can just play it as like a big old open world action. It's just a massive world. I doubt it'll ever get to that point, but yeah, just making it more like a more level based, uh, spectacle fighter thing yeah could not hurt. Oh, and then they have tears of femis says Eric. a five gotcha him I've never heard of that one. Oh yeah. What is that? It sounds like a big one. It sounds like it's a lot of real hot boys, so a bunch of hot anime boys here.
01:09:22
Speaker
I'll do some research on this. I look like there's a visual novel. Is that what that is? I'm going to save you. I'll figure out what's going on there. You've been planning to watch anything anything else?

Game Reviews: New Features and Innovations

01:09:31
Speaker
ah Me? No. Hell yeah. Nick, what have you been I've been, I've just been too tired in the evenings to really like get super invested in a game with everything going on with my, my mom here. But, uh, the, I've been putting some hours in the store as outlaws and I've definitely taken your advice, uh, Marty of like,
01:09:50
Speaker
like our missions and put it down for the night because it is it is a game like I don't want to spend too much time into because it does get monotonous but if we just do a story mission a couple side missions and then put it down it's like that perfect little I did a little Star Wars adventure today and I moved on it's like going it was like watching an episode of a TV show yeah instead of vdging it you're just watching it Yeah. was I was like mainlining the story. So I left the first planet you get to pretty quickly, which I want to go back. But I'd like the mission that like finally clicked, really clicked for the game for me was when you go into the old hybrid public cruiser, you know, it was very much a naughty dog game. And I was like, all right, I dig this i'm like yeah that's in the Star Wars for me. So now ah yeah I'm just enjoying taking my time with that one. I don't feel any need to rush through it or anything. and I could definitely see the criticism from reviewers that did have to rush through it as like it's
01:10:40
Speaker
it's like a weird mix of like a very linear story centered game, but then like a lot of the side stuff is really compelling to go do it. Yeah. Yeah. So yeah. um No one ever wants to play something where it feels like they're, they're on it. I don't know. Like a streak deadline, especially a deadline of like five days. Yep. But they also with the shadows announcement today, they also announced like that they're working on patches to improve the combat and the stealth out patches could kick you Well, I mean, is the patch going to fix the comment? That is what they said. They were combat improvements, comming, stealth, and I didn't know that. but i game What have you been playing on PC? Uh, yeah. So I have it on PS five and then they added a cross save with the last update. So I actually had my roommate go down and turn on my PS five and upload my save. And then I was able to oh that's funny get it on PC and download it here. way The way of the future. Yep. Yeah. That's funny. This is awesome.
01:11:48
Speaker
Uh, the other game I've been playing, uh, actually just came from Midwest games, uh, that new publisher out of, uh, Wisconsin. Um, how I've jumped to survivors. So I don't know if you know, I've been very into the survivors genre for ah the past few months. Like they're just games I'd like to play at night when I'm just, I don't feel like I get like vampire survivors. Yeah. Like vampire survivors. Sorry. I didn't realize that. like me a survivor builder like like Yeah, but every game in this genre has the word survivors in the title now there's yeah ah what deep recollectic survivors and
01:12:29
Speaker
bars whatever yeah and i guess it's almost like the word rogue where okay i know what that means if you're gonna throw that in there yeah um So yeah, ah this one's pretty straightforward. It just feels really good to play. It's almost like playing top down, uh, hell divers a little bit. Uh, so if you've have been looking for a new survivors game, like this one, the really good survivors like games, I guess, if you want to call them that, uh, really, uh, First of all, they have to have like a lot of variation where you can get all kinds of different power ups and that keeps things fresh constantly. And add the more you play, you keep unlocking new things to add into that that pile of upgrades that you get. And this game does that really well. um I don't I played a lot of them. I don't know if I've played one that has a jump. And obviously this one has a jump pack. So like there are the way they do the levels. There's like these little
01:13:22
Speaker
areas that you can jet back over and the enemies can't climb over. ah But there are flying enemies that can go over it. But so you can actually like get out of a tight situation just using your jump pack, which a lot of games, like if you get mobbed too hard, you're probably screwed. But in this game, they give you a way to get out of it. um So I really like that. Lots of lots of unlocks. ah The sound design is really good. The music is fun. So yeah, I mean, I think it's only like 10 bucks. I'd say it's I'd say it's worth it. You like the survivor genre in Japan, seven bucks, seven bucks.
01:13:52
Speaker
10 bucks, but you got three extra bucks. Spend it on whatever you want. Uh, more involved than like the basic, uh, the vampire survivors. Yeah. The maps just don't look like big old squares. No. Yeah. The maps, the maps like, yeah. So one of the, one of the, uh, differences in this one is like, there are little, there are hives that you have to go destroy. Uh, and there's like different categories of hires. Like there's a challenge hire. There's an apex hire. There's,
01:14:20
Speaker
X some other named hive or whatever and you basically have to you cannot get into a spot where you are just like doing a circle like in and vampire survivors or whatever you have to go around and kind of take out those hives but you're not gonna be able to like sit there and just shoot it dead you're gonna have to like kind of keep moving come back do a little bit of damage come back so they they constantly keep you moving and it's It's a round base too, so you only have a certain number of rounds. Like the the the they're timed, so it doesn't matter how many enemies you kill or whatever. Everything is just timed. Yeah. interesting yeah I've jumped to survivors.
01:15:00
Speaker
Yep.

Film Discussions and Industry Trends

01:15:01
Speaker
Aside from that, just been playing Siege, been playing the 1.0 version of Raven's Watch, which I really like. I can't talk about it since the embargo is not up, but the early access version has been out forever. That's why I can say I like it because I've been playing it for a while. That's a new game from the Curse of the Dead Gods developers. If you remember, Jack really liked that back on The Escapist. I remember Jack. Yeah, I remember Jack. Yeah, it's great.
01:15:25
Speaker
Uh, and then, uh, yeah, in the evenings I've been watching, rewatching the Lord of the rings trilogy. You can get those hobbits up in you. Yeah. I'm going to watch the hobbit too. Don't do that. That was a joke. I really liked the song in the first one. I like the extended, the hobbit movies. I don't think they're terrible. They'd make me sad. Why? the Extended versions of the regular versions. Peter Jackson wasted like half a decade of his life on those.
01:15:54
Speaker
I don't think they're like, I, I, everybody got more, we could have gotten more Kongs and more lovely bones. Did you imagine how many more Kongs and lovely bones as we could have had at a crossover forsaken saying I liked the Hobbit movies. I said, I liked the Hobbit moves. I didn't say they're good movies. Fuck you, Eric, for taking away my beard. wow i was look unprovoked weirdfield like You look like a little proud foot there. Uh, my favorite thing. So Peter Jackson, after the leather rings, he did Kong.
01:16:24
Speaker
And they did the The Lovely Bones based on that book. And originally, so it's about like ah a girl who's murdered by a serial killer and how her ghost is like still existing and trying to like help her family cope with it and everything. And the dad of the family was originally cast as Ryan Gosling. And ah unbeknownst to anyone on the production of the movie, Ryan Gosling decided to gain like a hundred pounds for the role and like showed up right before filming. And they were like,
01:16:54
Speaker
You're too weak. What are you doing? Like, we casted you to be Ryan Gosling. Like, we can't make this work. And they've recasted Mark Wahlberg. That's Ryan Gosling in that photo? No, that's Peter Jackson.
01:17:09
Speaker
Oh, I don't know if there's any, uh, I don't know if there's any footage or, or, uh, photos of fat, Ryan Gosling. I'm also not remembering the story at this point. So it might as well be real, but, um, I don't know. and show you He should have done what Colin Farrell did in the penguin. Just put on a bunch of prosthesis.
01:17:37
Speaker
But he didn't do it. He never wants to put that stuff for the movie because he only had to do it probably for like two weeks. And then he joined the show and had to do it for like several months straight. And he's like, I get this shit off me. I'm never doing this. I got a, I got a fact checking Marty here. He only gained 60 pounds and he did it by drinking melted ice cream. you i said Well, 60 is close enough to 100. I say 140 pounds is a huge difference. 60 pounds is a lot to gain.
01:18:07
Speaker
Yeah, 100 pounds is a massive amount of the gas daddy. But myself, a gas daddy. Sussy guru. we We need to. We need the the fat Ryan Gosling movie now. Like we need to make that also matter that he did that photo of. I mean, he just looks like.
01:18:26
Speaker
normal Ryan Gosling, just not chiseled. Let be normal Ryan Gosling. Let him breathe. Let my boy breathe. I think he's cool and funny. Get that Jack. Right. Yes. Ryan Gosling is definitely cool and funny. Yeah. You know who who I keep singing them in the news and now it's getting annoying.
01:18:47
Speaker
Will Wheaton cause everybody online says I look like Will Wheaton and now I just keep seeing him everywhere and it's bothering me. You absolutely look like Will Wheaton. So you know, a hundred pounds and you won't look like Will Wheaton.
01:19:02
Speaker
about up Casey. love so's five year oh don'no said casey Do you think ZZZ is over animated? I think this might be in reference to I have this. I haven't watched this video yet, but New Frame Plus, I have it in my queue, put up a video called The Overanimation of Zendless Zone Zero. Yeah, I've that has popped up on my feet a couple of times. I've not watched it yet. I'm not sure. Enough for me to add to my queue, but not watch the video yet, right? Yeah, i'm I'm very interested in what that argument is. I think I understand what people mean when they say it's over animated.
01:19:38
Speaker
um because um like these are very much anime style characters, right? And in most anime, ah anime has traditionally worked with a shoestring budget. So like you don't get a ton of movement in a lot of just regular anime scenes. Right? Yeah. But even when they throw the budget out of the window, like it's still a house style, where like you know characters don't move a certain way. Whereas American cartoons, like let's say Looney Tunes, for example, you'll have characters that are super bouncy, right? Xenoxone Zero has anime characters who move, especially in their cut scenes, as if they're like Looney Tune animated. it So like it does look odd. It's something I had to get used to, because like they'll have movements that just are just really fluid and like just kind of extra bouncy.
01:20:27
Speaker
I don't think it's bad. It's the style they chose. Interesting. Yeah, I guess you could call it over animation because it's different for that style. Sure. But I don't know if that's the argument that's made in that video, but I do want to watch the video. Yeah. You know what video? Your cue. It's going to go up the cue. It's not going to go up the cue. Because I mentioned it.
01:20:54
Speaker
No, it's in my queue right now and I'm going to bump it up a little bit, but, um, yeah martinity Marty's algorithm is just sonic, weird videos. Uh, no, I watched that on the second one to count. Oh shit. Whenever I get into the freaky deaky YouTube, I sign into that. I was wondering when my Google search is a work account. Yeah. Um, and, uh, posh tea with a $2 don't know. Thank you so much. paul tea Not a gaming question, but what's your favorite Fargo season two?
01:21:24
Speaker
I've only watched Target one. Season two is my favorite. That's the one with... No Fargo. Kirsten Dunst. It's great. That's one of my favorite weird magical reels and endings ever. I have not watched season five though. So I don't know. Maybe maybe season five will be up there. I really liked season one and two. ah Season three was pretty good. Four I wasn't crazy about, but I hear five is good. And it's got Jon Hamm. He's got his nips pierced.
01:21:55
Speaker
Don Draper, nips pierced, naked as the day was born. Very excited. Are these like an anthology? Like is each season like different people or? Yeah. Different actors, different people. Um, there's some connection. Like one of the, seas one of the seasons takes place, takes place in, in modern day. And there's like a and of a retired sheriff who's super old. And then another season is that sheriff is younger and one of the main characters. So like there's some tissue and connection between them, but um overall you can, you can pretty much watch them. Uh,
01:22:28
Speaker
Watch them singularly ah before we move to what Marty's watching. I have a bone to pick You buy i want I have a bone to pick with our entire audience. Okay, pick your bone Warrior was officially canceled and you're mad at our audience. That wasn't I am mad at the audience because none none of them watched it to continue make them making it Yeah, because we could have saved that show you that is very upsetting i see over you audience You could have saved it And you failed us and that sucks. That really sucks. Everything good comes. No, nothing good on Netflix. It's a finish. That's, that's i'm upsetting. That's a good show ratio laugh threw my ass off you.
01:23:15
Speaker
ah for brazilli says what is yourby as what's warrior wow yous warrior I feel very justified in being angry. Yeah. Incredible. That does blow. watch Just just watch the old watch the old ones. It wasn't on HBO Max anymore, Speakeasy. You could have saved it at Netflix. And I know you have Netflix, don't you? You don't know Speakeasy has Netflix. Don't assume what subscription services. Maybe it's just a crunchy roll peacock, man.
01:23:43
Speaker
you know and Now that it's been officially canceled, go pirate it. Like, still watch it, but don't give Netflix any more money. But steal it. There you go. Uh, see that's the, yeah, if a show gets canceled, then, then you're free, a free rate sale, sell the high seas. We got another season of rings of power. We don't get another season of warrior. What is this crap? Bezos bucks. That's one thing I know about building. How other Bezos to save warrior. bringing yeah pleasezos sorry did it with the expanse Please do it again. we need you bezza Um, there you go. Watch warrior. Uh, yeah, honestly, I've just been playing a lot of metaphor. refintaio
01:24:23
Speaker
that you can't talk about, which I can't talk about, but go download the demo. And apparently it's like the first five hours of the game. you Remind the audience how much, how many hours you put into that in the first day and a half that you had it.
01:24:34
Speaker
I think first off, it was like 48 hours. It was 15 hours. I put about 45 hours into it. Oh my God. That's nuts. You get hooked. If you played Persona, people who played Persona know what's going on where it's like, Oh, what if I do one more day? What if I, what if I up a social link? What if I go see who's at the pub? Okay. You can't answer this question, I guess, because it's not passive. If it's in the first five hours of the game, I can answer it.
01:25:03
Speaker
Okay, within the first five hours of the game, what is the ratio of like dialogue to no game? It is like persona. It is arguably worse than persona. I will say the opening five hours, the the story is immediately compelling. um and Like I said, it is very much not ah You know, I think some people, Persona's kind of a hard pill to swallow because it is anime-inspired Japanese teenagers with all of the baggage and trappings of this. This game is, it is very clear that they were inspired by Game of Thrones.
01:25:41
Speaker
um in in I think in a really good way. And it is it is way less, way less horny, way less ah sort of traditional anime and way more like their take on a a grand sweeping fantasy story with real stakes, with characters who die, with characters with like real deep motivations, um um with really dramatic turns. It is also all about a democratic election. um And like, if, if,
01:26:11
Speaker
hey can i It's just very the timing of the game, which has been in development for a very long time. It's just very fitting for Americans. with ah It's all about a democratic election. so Listening to you describe that game, I was like going, uh, come my way Yeah, but you no, if if if you like that persona flow and then when you get into it and then when you get to that meet where you're like, well, what do I do with my month?
01:26:34
Speaker
even have a lot of things to do with the models and the more dialogue. Good stuff. It's great. Yeah. It's a watch TV show. God, I'm going to have to like sit there and just like hooking Mountain Dew IV into my arm to stay awake during all that. Lift a bunch of weights while you're playing it. I'm just getting crazy. ridish in the game Maybe the community.
01:26:53
Speaker
did A little bit, a little bit. i've got a couple thumbbes out there one One dumbbell clicking the X and the other. let's click x if you hit If you hit Y or triangle, ah there's, there's move on to the next set like auto scroll. cheese yeah so hang it up Sorry, I'm going to get so swollen and beat the shit out of you when you say you didn't play the game.
01:27:13
Speaker
Uh, and, uh, with a $2 don't know. Thank you so much. Netflix cancels its best TV. Mine Hunter glow. Yeah. The 1899 or whatever the fuck that was called. Fucking lost at sea opening the mystery box. I'm so annoyed by that show. I want to watch 1899 and then I know they canceled it. So I'm like, no, I'm not going to get, I don't want to. Yeah. It was a warrior. No one wants to watch warrior the warrior finishes on a good note. You should still watch warrior. Yeah. so i run watch side hunter Best Might have no rules. ah There you go. Also watch UB Halloween. If you want to watch something on Netflix, go watch UB Halloween. Celebrate Halloween by watching UB Halloween. There's a scene in the beginning where he drinks a bunch of soup out of a thermos and then just projectile vomits while he's riding a bike and it's great. sound Sounds amazing. you know what You know what else we can put on the audience for getting canceled scavenger's reign?

The Impact of Streaming Decisions on Audiences

01:28:04
Speaker
Because that's also on Netflix and we've recommended it multiple times. Yeah, that was also really good.
01:28:11
Speaker
Fuck you, HBO Max. I don't think it got, did it get canceled? Yeah, Max canceled it. HBO Max canceled it. I don't know. I don't know if anything's been made of it over on Netflix, but.
01:28:23
Speaker
Yeah, I don't know. but like head Like, what what show has Netflix taken and then was it then continued for us to keep oh that the fake? No, Netflix. So that was Amazon Netflix. Netflix did the yeah what was the of story or the manifest? Was that what it was called? the Where the plane that Idris Elba joint? No, no, no, that was you're thinking of a hijack. Yeah, hijack. Yeah. What was that? There's like an airplane show. um an airplane takes off and then lands and it's like 15 years later or something. And I run the flights like, what the fuck? Uh, that and Cobra Kai continue to Netflix. Oh, but that, okay. All right. That was taken from YouTube and continued at Netflix though. It wasn't like canceled off YouTube. They just bought it. Let's forget YouTube trying to do original shows. Yeah. I don't know. I don't know. Um,
01:29:14
Speaker
Like manifest was on what channel? that your number YouTube red or whatever. I think. Right. It started like the YouTube. i started three on YouTube. You had to like subscribe to the fancy YouTube. I think. I don't know. Listen, this is the 10th time. This podcast where we say something and we're like, we don't actually know. we don't know want any this You know, and you know what are we doing? I do know though, is the third season or from just started yesterday of what? There's no problem.
01:29:39
Speaker
I don't it know what From is. Spooky show starring Harold Pier now from Lost and Romeo and Juliet. Baz Luhrmann's Romeo and Juliet. But it's on MGM Plus, which nobody subscribes to. This is the first time I've ever heard of this streaming service. MGM Plus? they They changed the name. What the fuck was that on From before?
01:29:59
Speaker
Uh, from, how do I, how do I Google just from, from TV show? When did it start on? First off, you got to change your name to a better name from also, I believe in doo-doo man says it's a loss, but better IMO. How do I fucking ban someone just. deeply and ever comment again is gonna beat your as my even Yeah. I've been lifting weights during metaphor. refent asio You better watch out.
01:30:21
Speaker
Uh, from, from was on, I've already forgot epics, EPI X before they renamed it to MGM plus. they're Okay. actually I do. I do remember epics as a thing, but yeah, yeah. Now it's MGM plus cause it's easy to remember the net. Honestly, with a great point, they should have just called it morph, which is from backwards. And honestly, I, if you Google morph, M O R F probably nothing popping up. it's just like terrible Wolverine's best friend. Wolverine knows overloads more You blame post COVID exhaustion so that the audience not showing up. It's the same problem. You guys have been dragging the games industry through. No, I'm still blaming you. You can't, you can't blame COVID for everything. Sorry. Yeah. I blame COVID for it. All right. Well, your closet door has broken before COVID. What do you have to say about that? It's been broken since I was a child. the door broke but I was in like middle school.
01:31:13
Speaker
um Oh, Mattedee makes a really good point for Marty. MGM is MGM backwards. fucking takes mega bong rip. ah What about but if MGM was actually MGM? If it's upside down, it's like W. I don't know what I'm saying.
01:31:36
Speaker
Yeah. six that message w And then we got we gotta go. This isn't a podcast anymore. I believe in Doo Doo Man with a $2 don't know. Thank you so much. I also believe in Doo Doo Man. We can say it's a spiritual successor to lost writing. All right. we'll meet that We'll meet in the middle there. That sounds fine. Happy 20th birthday, by the way, lost last weekend. Celebrating his 20th birthday.
01:32:00
Speaker
I was thinking about it. Yeah. A couple other things. Spooky season. and somebody watching and scary stuff Yeah. Maybe I would got over the garden wall, been, been plugging away at evil starting Mike Colter, Luke H himself. I know you want to finish this podcast, but do you like that show? Cause I keep meaning to want to watch it. Yeah. think's pretty good I liked it's from the same, the same couple who made ah the good wife and the good fight, which I like both of those in terms of like, to me, they're like the highest caliber, just procedural. So evil is just a very basic,
01:32:28
Speaker
spook of the week procedural. um But the three main characters who go to solve these mysteries are ah the the ladies, like a psychologist. ah There's a guy who's kind of a tech expert. And then there's another guy who who believes in demons and he's pretty much working for the Vatican to be like, all right, you you killed your parents in the middle of the night. Are you a sociopath and faking it? Do you actually have schizophrenia or are you a devil?
01:32:56
Speaker
and every episode like we gotta to find out if he's a devil or not and it's great And then there's a little overarching story about a group called the 60. And I think they might be into some, some devil shit led by Benjamin Linus from lost himself, Michael Emerson. So let me tell you when we go full circle, we go full circle.
01:33:13
Speaker
That does sound intriguing. How many devils have been discovered so far? Spoilers. There was a pretty gnarly exorcism. And let me tell you, she was, ah there was a hundred percent devil, nothing else. Sometimes they're like, Oh, we can use, Oh, he's just being hacked is Alexa was hacked. And so it wasn't a devil. It was an Alexa hack. This one, I think this lady was actually, I think we could, we could put her absolutely in the devil, but the exerciser, so she's good thatrefore for She had an exorcism and a Karen popped out.
01:33:40
Speaker
A Karen popped out. Like a little demon Karen? What do you have going on? What should folks check out? We're done. Casey. Oh, uh, you can find me on the internet at Sigma Gears 9. I should have a review for Elsie dropping soon, a bite size review. So check that out. Um, also tomorrow, Marty and I should be finishing. Oh yeah.
01:34:08
Speaker
um It's early.

Upcoming Gaming and Streaming Plans

01:34:10
Speaker
I mean if we finish early then maybe we'll try some Virgil DLC stuff um But I don't think we have that much left. So like we'll probably be done with it for sure ah tomorrow Then starting Metroid next week. Yeah Yes,
01:34:29
Speaker
yes so I will don't check on that but yes, we'll the next game will be Metroid the Metroid series ah Outside of that um Oh, we're doing a movie night on Friday, right? Yeah. Friday for Phoenix to your Patreon members ah Friday at 6 p.m. Central, which is when this this podcast started. But on Friday, ah we'll be doing our monthly Patreon movie hang for folks at the $50 tier. We'll be watching board lines. So so um yeah, so that's all we participating in that. And then I'll probably jump into my undertale stream with my fiance afterwards.
01:35:06
Speaker
So join us for that. that right Yeah, we have to be like, we, we were trying to finish it last week and it just went off for a little too long. Everyone's like, always like it's crazy short, but I think that crazy shorts like eight hours, which while streaming is still probably more than hours. Yeah. Yeah. Uh, but that's it for me. Yeah. Nick, what about you?
01:35:28
Speaker
I'm working on my next unpacked script for the week after next. Our packs with stuff is finally ready to go. So you'll be seeing a the first one on Friday and then the second one on Tuesday. So be down to look out for that. Casey's featured in that too. One with Jesse.
01:35:46
Speaker
ah yeah so I think myself at some points, I just get yelled at, but it's fine.
01:35:52
Speaker
And then other than that, yeah, probably won't be on any streams this weekend. And then we'll see whether I'm back home or here in Nebraska for another week next week. and Stay tuned.
01:36:04
Speaker
Cool. And then yet tomorrow, we mentioned earlier, we're going to have a sponsored Shadows of Doubt stream. Shadows of Doubt is entering 1.0 and Yahtzee is going to be playing it with a partner. The time is still a little TBD because Yahtzee has a doctorate's appointment tomorrow, so we're kind of working around that. it might So it now might be from three to five central.
01:36:23
Speaker
Um, but, uh, stay tuned for that. And then of course, tell me cry in the evening. Uh, and then, uh, Friday, uh, we have dev heads at the normal time. The crew will be there. Uh, but Friday we also have a cheeky early little stream. I think Jack and I are going to be hopping on a stream 9 AM central playing the opening two hours of the legends Zelda echoes of wisdom.
01:36:43
Speaker
Nice. So there you go. Yeah, new Zelda. We love people love Zelda. They just they they chant on the street. They stand on the street corners and they chant. They scream all this name because they're very excited to play as her. I'm so excited, guys. It comes out comes out tonight. A game is a full 60 US dollars, right? Fuck out of here. What are you? What are you? Why are you even asking it like that? That's a full 60. How are you going to play that and metaphor? One step at a time. I'm going to get so buff. Both my hands can do it.
01:37:12
Speaker
You're going to play one. You're going to play one of those games in each hand is what you're going to do. Oh, yeah, brother. For you, Jesse, as Chad just showed up, it says, and it's not a sequel. Can we just ask this question real quick to chat? yeah No. Is Echoes of Wisdom a sequel to ah what what is it? What was the last one? The last baby doll face link? It's awakening. Link's awakening. No. No, it's not a sequel. No, I would say there are ah Tears of the Kingdom is a sequel to Breath of the Wild, Majora's Mask is a sequel to Ocarina of the Time, ah and some of the handheld games are sequels to each other, but most of the games I would say are not sequels. Like story sequels. He's he's still upsetting a fact check during the...
01:37:54
Speaker
yeah but sure Oh, okay. Is this what that's about? it realize Jack Henry factored him in the video in case he was very upset. It's fine. you yeah a but Find a nice comfortable hill to die on. That's what I say. We'll just roll over and die. ah But yeah, thank you. Thank you everyone watching, watching live, hanging out, listening. We we appreciate appreciate each and every one of you. So for Nick, Casey, and Eric, this was Marty, this was Firelink, episode number 38. Thank you all so much for hanging out. And we'll see you all later. Bye, everyone. Bye.
