Speaker: um I think it's really strange. and It seems like we've been, this is probably what, our maybe sixth? sixth podcast since our big return.
Speaker: And probably the last four, there's been some big news in horse racing, not for the good. that has taken place. and um uh the Proverbial poop hit the fan. Uh,
Speaker: A couple days ago, we were recording on Wednesday. um with uh Marshall Graham, getting some access to some special. past performances that uh Seems like the general public can't. Can't get there. uh hands -on And. um There was an outcry, but...
Speaker: I think there should have probably been more of an outcry. Maybe... Maybe the average better. uh didn't look at that way from you know the guy guy was using this information in order to claim horses a able to you know, put horses in with specific information that the betting public didn't have. And.
Speaker: You know, I'm not going to go over the whole thing because if you're interested, everybody's already read about it. but I think there should have been more of an outcry. about it. And you as a... much bigger Investment.
Speaker: better into the races than I, especially these. Um... Big pool. uh races. I'd be interested in exactly how you feel. And i and neither of us. go into these handicapping contests. And that was another thing.
Speaker: he He was a big handicapping contest person. Um, took advantage of the information there that others didn't have. so um what's your What's your take on it?
Speaker: It's kind of disappointing. um I don't know, I just... I don't know anyone personally. in the situation but It speaks to people's character that if you find something...
Speaker: that you're not supposed to have that you know is not supposed to be out there and instead of reporting it You use it for your personal gain. That just speaks to your own morals and lack thereof. And those are the kind of people that I don't like to associate with and wouldn't associate with. so I guess it's disappointing. it's Why I like animals better than people, I guess, because they don't do that kind of thing.
Speaker: But, yeah, I mean, as far as betting, I'm sure it hurts, but you're going against these CAWs, CRWs, whatever you want to call them. it's It's not easy. Which I understand he...
Speaker: orchestrated a caw yeah i believe he runs ACRW or multiple, well I don't know exactly, but... That's why if you're betting, just, I don't want to change topics a little bit, but just trying to avoid them as much as possible. and tracks like naira that shut them off early and things like that it's not perfect but try and bet those races rather than the ones where the Sarah W's and CAW's who have.
Speaker: access not only to the totes system, which in a direct manner that the average public doesn't. access to rebates that are insane. I mean, I don't want to brag i guess but I don't know if I've told you how much I'm up this year.
Speaker: But. with the amount I bet and the amount I'm up, if I was... I see. AW getting their kind of rebate, I'd be up. Bye. i think close to six figures right i mean it's ridiculous how much advantage they have and now they're getting inside information or they're capable of getting it which they're not supposed to have I mean, they might have inside information as far as like knowing trainers and things like that anyway, but whatever that is. But as far as this goes.
Speaker: It's kind of crummy and and sucks. so listen it's you know unfortunate horse racing is viewed by many people like boxing has been viewed and there's a reason why boxing is not too popular anymore and it used to be a huge sport because People just...
Speaker: thought of it as corrupt and you think of people like don king and i shouldn't name names because I'll castigate people I don't really know, but this is when I was a young guy growing up. you see guys like that and you just think corruption and all that and if he's innocent i apologize but um the The point is that like, that's how horse racing is viewed by the average public. and you know getting people to want to be in it. And and that's why someone who's...
Speaker: I guess a leader in the industry. Remember the Jockey Club? ah You would hope someone like that would have some more integrity. and want to protect the sport, but unfortunately in this sport. There's big money involved and it seems like the powers that be.
Speaker: really just care about their own bottom line. They don't work together. They don't sacrifice for the good of the game. ah for the survival of the sport. And short term, that makes them money. Long term, it's going to end there.
Speaker: careers I mean, maybe they'll. be dead by the time it's over but horse racing will be ending at some point in the near future probably and ah probably in most states very soon. And it's a shame that the people who are in power who can do something about it potentially are, instead of doing that, are making it less appealing to people. more corrupt giving it a bad name where you know how many politicians are going to go out there when they have to be reelected.
Speaker: and go on the line to support horse racing. when this is the connotation that we have, cheating, corruption. So it's it's sad, it sucks, but... You know, we're we're both old enough, I think, that, you know, hopefully in our life, well, hopefully not in a way, but hopefully in our lifetime we'll still have horses to bet. uh will want to bet them but yes it's it's ah a sad horrible situation and Kind of glad we didn't have him on our show ever. so
Speaker: None of that matters. i mean yeah what we we were this close yeah a lot of people on the show we don't really know going in and we don't necessarily know going out something we've gotten friendly with and and That's some.
Speaker: Big reason why I like doing the show because. um i think both of us but but i can speak for me i made friends in this game through the show and I'm able to go to different tracks around the country. And I know people in these tracks because they've been in our show or, um, we we've had, uh, conversations off the air and stuff like that so anyway um Yeah, so I don't know. Not a great take, but that's my take.
Speaker: i don't know i can move on you can say anything anything you want about it but uh No, I've said more more than I needed to. but let's Let's look on the bright side. um I have a big announcement.

Speaker: timonium it was the first racetrack timonium meaning the bull ring in timonium maryland which um They run a seven day. card or seven -day meet during the Maryland State Fair.
Speaker: And it's just a fun, fair type. Anyone who probably lives in. Southern California back when... They used to have the Fairplex meet.
Speaker: i Take the Fairplex meat. and cut it down by about 80 % of that, and you have Timonium. um I can guarantee, I doubt if there's any CAWs.
Speaker: looking at PPs in order to bet the the pick five at Timonium. uh what you're gonna get is uh a fair Peace. fair meaning.
Speaker: Equitable and fair meaning festive. Because you've got Dave Rodman, the race caller, saying as they reach the... Ferris Allen wheel. Ferris Allen is a long time trainer in Maryland. But anyway.
Speaker: The announcement is that ah because I've done... work for the racing biz over the years. and have uh landed my handicapping skills. per se, to the meat.

Speaker: live stream, handicapping. In between races. So that I get my seven days in the sun, 15 minutes of fame for seven days. and wonderful racing at Timonium. So.
Speaker: Do me a favor. If you've never, ever laid a bet down on Timonium. Humor me and spend $2 on a horse.
Speaker: Who knows, I might even... have to do the the my little tip sheet. day In the past, they wanted me to do a tip sheet to give out to all the fair goers as they come in and buy a program. so Just humor me. Let's... ah Up that handle to maybe a hundred thousand on the entire day or something. I don't know. But no, ah seriously, it.
Speaker: It gives me... um great joy to to return to the place that I uh first visited. ah a racetrack back in 1964. Yeah, I'm that old.
Speaker: So. Uh, Opening day is a week from Friday. It's a seven -day meet. They run Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, the 28th, 29th, and 30th, and then Labor Day weekend Friday through Monday. so as they used to say, the seven greatest racing days in Maryland. so um i used four of our precious minutes so i'll
Speaker: I'll say next to nothing during the handicapping session. That's okay. You're good. We can give you a little plug there. Speaker: the the level of horses at Timonium. Anything can happen. You know, yeah so. they they're they're they're very unformful But they do have the big the big stakes race is the seventy five thousand dollars shine again, which is eligible for Maryland.
Speaker: breds and sired horses who have not won a sweepstake as they call it. And where else can you see a mile and a 16th race around 17 turns? Nowhere else but Timonium. And you haven't lived until you've been at Timonium and they're doing a mile on the sixteenth and they go around the first time and everybody who has the horses in the lead the times like cheering and High five. and Not knowing that they've got to go around two more times.
Speaker: Yeah, it actually is a lot of fun. I've been there, I think, a couple times now. They have a nice little OTB, if you want to call it that. I guess it's not an OTB because it's live, but during the off -season. It's a nice restaurant and bar right next to the track. are over Not overlooking, but you just walk outside you right at the track. and There's a huge fair there. Now you can see.
Speaker: Should I say it? You see the jockey stumbling around at night throwing... a you know but shooting at water balloons or whatever the games are so you can riding the mechanical bill you know what jockey not to bet because you see which one is uh you know a little more tips in than the others so Anyway, I somewhat jest, although not totally.
Speaker: But it's well deserved for GQ. He's been on the feed for a while. I guess almost like part -time. but Now he's going to be there most of the days or all days. So that's great. And I look forward to ah checking it out as well.
Speaker: uh so congratulations you want to move on to the late pick live Yeah, so... ah We're doing the Saratoga Saturday. August 22nd, Saratoga's late pick five.
Speaker: which starts in race eight. Five and a half for a long turf event. for New York bread. allowance uh 105 000 non -winners and one other than 12 are due to go to the post. We've got two on the MTO, but I believe the weather forecast is good for Saratoga on Saturday. so no threat of taking off the Turf.
Speaker: So of that field of 12, we have... The favorite is the 11. Four to one morning line favorite. Tuttle Town.
Speaker: And. Eric. All I'll do to lead in is... It appears that there's going to be... Um... A cat fight.
Speaker: early on here because you get eric's brow just for like what the hell is he talking about And I'm talking about... um All right.
Speaker: The early speed, though, between the four, Moonlit Ready. written by Delilah Rivera. And the eight horse.
Speaker: Dancing with Destiny, written by Katie Davis. So you got two female jockeys who are going to. Hell's bells to the front. Maybe.
Speaker: and see if either one of them will go. and Eric's frantically shaking his head, saying... That's not how I see it. No. ah You can take it from here.
Speaker: and dispute my pace scenario. Well, when we're handicapping the race... Many of these come out of the same race. It was war't run July Saratoga's 11th race. If you watch a replay.
Speaker: I'll borrow your term. A cat fight, did you call it? Is that what they call it now? I wasn't familiar with this. well when we planninging plant is jack you on the hamonium feed When both jockeys are... Females. A loose term. Get rid of our female audience. He's only kidding, ladies. Hopefully your resident feline won't take exception to that. No. He's a... he's a he anyway but um all right well anyway now that i know why you use that term i won't use it uh but the
Speaker: 8 horse. Dancing with destiny and the four horse moonlight ready you mentioned they were up on the pace last time There was another horse who is not back here. I can look it up and I'm not going to to save time There was a ah battle on the lead last time, and the race set up big time for closers, I thought. And that's why I really like the eight. Dancing with destiny here. This was the Only horse involved in the pace.
Speaker: that survived and chased a 3 -1 shot. And that was... moonlight right in the four who finished 10th and a long shot at 25 to 1 was the other speed to finish 9th But the race really kind of collapsed.
Speaker: Sometimes it collapses because the horses up front just aren't that good. In this case, I think it was because of the pace. And the eight held very, very well. So I really like the eight dancing with Destiny here. And that's going to be my key horse here. And I'm glad she's six to one in the morning line.
Speaker: Listen, I think Katie Davis is a capable jockey. I know her record's not very good. She doesn't get great mounts. Is she Jose Ortiz, Irad? No. but I think she's more than capable of winning a race with a live mount. And I think she has one. And yeah, she does have to avoid a speed duel, but I don't necessarily see her needing to get in a speed duel here with the four or anyone else. And it's New York. So I would say there was never a speed duel, but there actually was that race. So I can't say there never is one, but there rarely is one. So as long as the source.
Speaker: can read a little and it's done that once or twice in the past. uh i i like the eight dance with destiny a lot here and that's gonna be my key horse in this race uh there's some others i want to mention i don't know if you want to jump in or you want me to just continue Well, you're going to be very depressed when I show you.

Yes. and Katie Davis is on the 8. so when most of this and And I'm on a horse, then you start questioning your your thought process. combined all in the same word anyway so yeah i i what eric said i agree and actually I think...

Speaker: The... the paystool does ensue I like the nine horse Maria Callas. as the one who can just Rate all for that. that early pace and get first run into the stretch.
Speaker: uh the horse Cuts back to a half a furlong to the five and a half. um has been very consistent with the the speed figures.
Speaker: Lot of people like the second time Lasix angle Um. Hasn't raced in... month and a half but ah is is getting a nice work tab I know also a lot of people hate when they see the horse they bet on.
Speaker: having a shoe repair in the um Paddock. And that's what's mentioned here with Maria Callas in her last. uh with There's different types of factors and believing that. ah the sixth fairy godmother and The 11 total town will not benefit.
Speaker: from the same scenario as last time. That's why I've kind of gone with. with the nine as as my second choice. And all the way on the outside, Miguel Clement. uh horse uh coming off of uh Hmm.
Speaker: Victorious. ah um Maiden. claim claiming event I just think this horse... Hopefully she's. Just going to continue to improve off of that. I know it's not prudent to take maiden claimers coming you know coming back.
Speaker: off the wind because you really don't know. the the quality but um i i think that's another one that He's going to be able to sit kind of mid -pack. Try it. Try it. outrun the deep closers to the wire.
Speaker: So that's that's all I have. All right. um A lot of people would... call this a good matting wreath because You have a 12 horse field and the favorite, I believe is four to one, the 11. And sometimes that can be the case, but. uh and we had an itp on inside the pylons for those who know him on a few times and he talks about the good rates of the ones where There's a fairly heavy favorite that you don't like and you can meet and get good odds. And I agree with that 100%.
Speaker: In this case, I don't know. Going against a favorite is going to help that much, but I'm not a fan of the 11 -tuttle town. uh you mentioned that the horse benefited. And I mentioned earlier about that pace in the July 25th race. Other than this horse.
Speaker: Saved ground and a great setup. And I don't think the horse was going past the winner anyway in that race. So if it wasn't going to win that race, I don't think she's winning this one personally. So I'm happy to leave that horse out. Not the ideal post either. I don't like the 12. And you told me, even though you like the 12 some, you told me.
Speaker: why I shouldn't like the horse. that it you know, safe ground, really great trip against weaker made in claiming that's allowing. So for me, the, the 11, the 12 are not going to be on any tickets. So The other horses I just want to mention quickly. You said the five, so I'm not saying, the nine, I'm sorry, Maria Callas. Horse is fine. I love the horse. Don't dislike the horse. Second off the layoff you mentioned, you know, excuse last time. So the nine's fine, but. A couple of words I like. The three. arenada
Speaker: These are words who both of us thought was going to be a much shorter price. I think. I don't want to embarrass you, but the three hour now to six to one in the morning line. um We make our own morning lines and kind of go back and forth with it. I had this horse at 9 -2. GQ had her at 3 -1, I think. So I think I'm going to end up being right in between you and David there around 9 -2, but we'll see.
Speaker: what happens just linda's been hot jose ortiz take money but anyway the horse ran a very good race about last time so broke his maiden maiden special weight her maiden maiden special weight Stay bread. very easily. Be nice. I almost curse, but not that it's a big deal if I do. But be the crap you feel.
Speaker: uh that opening uh race that she had but did it so easily so i don't want to hold it against her necessarily then she goes in that joseph a gimma jimma however you pronounce it sorry
Speaker: And she ran really well, I thought. She got stuck for a bit on the turn. Winner had an easy lead and wired the field. Didn't really have much of a chance to catch the winner. So I thought she ran well. If you're a speed figure person, those figures were put as two -year -olds. That two -year -old figure is not good enough to win this. but close to good enough to win this. So I really like Arenada a decent amount. Yes, she has to be ready to run off the layoff. I think Linda I wrote down was two for 17 turf sprints off the layoff or something like that. So she's not. Terrific with that move, but she's more than capable mo and especially there was gonna be six to one then I liked Your price through the one I don't really care for. And the other one that I would put.
Speaker: If I was making picks, although I don't like to do just picks, that would probably be the six, believe it or not, fairy godmother, who both of us thought would be the morning line favorite, I believe. But David has her at six to one, so I hope he's right about that. This is the worst who's gotten. trouble at the start, and in a five furlong, five and a half furlong sprint, you don't want horses that have trouble at the start.
Speaker: 2Mac was... Checked off and lost about 10 lengths at the start. last race Broke out a little bit and got bumped. All right. back about six lengths but it really wasn't all her fault like some of it was she's not going to be sharp out of the gate But it wasn't like she couldn't break at all. That was the case twice in a row. I just tossed the horse. But yeah, she got a good setup, but got checked back so bad.
Speaker: That I can. overlooked the setup a little bit because of that horrendous start. so At six to one, I'm happy with that horse. At three to one, I don't really care. uh as much for the horse so i like the eight then the three and then the six and i'm just mentioning one other horse we mentioned already indirectly the four moonlight ready who is also up on that fast -paced last race and i kind of liked her last time more because i didn't love anyone else and she was stepping up out of a maiden special weight
Speaker: I thought she'd run a lot better. Once I saw she was a favorite three -to -one, I didn't really care for her anymore, but she took a crazy amount of money. But I can forgive the race a little bit. Hitting the gate slightly. and gotten a huge speed door, and...
Speaker: Faded. Badly. The only good thing about that is if she would have kind of persevered and hung on for like sixth or something, maybe you're only getting four to one or five to one instead of eight to one. Yes, you're going from Johnny V to Delilah Rivera.
Speaker: But... She's capable. I don't mind you to price the four. I do want to talk how I'm going to bet the race because it is a race I have interest in betting. Was there anything else you want to add? or or Rebut before I say that.
Speaker: Nope. All right. a couple instances I'm trying to beat the favorite. My main bets are going to key the eight. So what I'll do is I'm going to bet. Exactives and triples where I go eight width. Three. Six.
Speaker: Four. Five. Oh, I didn't mention the five. i Just throw real quick. I think the five needed last race Vernon Valley. Two back in that Joseph A. Gimma race. She was fractious behind the gate. Showed some speed. And then last race was off the layoff.
Speaker: I think can improve and has a chance here. Rodney Mott, even though he's not doing great, it's a small sample. He's been in the money a decent amount, very capable. And Tyler... is running fine. So I think the five at 12 to one has a shot here too. So my, my betting strategy would be eight with three, six, four, five.
Speaker: And I might even throw in the nine. I know it's five horses with the eight. So if you do a dollar exacto box, eight with those, that would be 10 bucks. So if that's too much for you and and you were interested in that, cut it down. The end. The other thing I would do is I would do, and then I'd bet more, eight with three, six a little extra, and then probably eight with three a little extra on that.
Speaker: then I would do the same thing with the triples eight with those four horses in the triple. so or five horses, whatever it was. If I do eight with five horses, it comes out $30 for a five cent bet. I normally wouldn't love doing that, but because I don't have the...
Speaker: Favorite, assuming the morning line is correct, I'm okay throwing those in and I have prices there. But I can see leaving maybe the nine out or something like that to cut $12 off the bet and make eight with. four of the horses. So again, I do eight with three, six, four.
Speaker: Five, nine. possibly and I'd do more with the eight with the three six if I was investing more. So maybe eight with. Three six four eight with three six five eight with three six nine. So if it comes in three six eight in combinations in the triple I have it for $1 .50 or something like that, where if the four, five, or nine come in, I only have 50 cents. Something to that effect. Again, it all depends on your budget and what you're looking to do. But those are ways I play the races. And then it's possible, depending on the odds, if they're all decent prices, you know maybe I box some of those horses without the eight.
Speaker: especially the higher priced ones, you know three, maybe six, maybe throw in the five. And. um you know maybe leave out the nine and that bet because the nine's not a good price so maybe like a a dollar exact to box three, four.
Speaker: Five. 6. something like that, just so if the eight doesn't run, I still have. prices there Again, if I'm doing that, I'm looking more to... Kind of. Make a little bit of money here.
Speaker: where if i'm just keying the eight i'm looking more to make a home run score spend a little less so it really depends on what you're looking for in the race you want to kind of like Play it safe. like a safe investment, although it's still not safe, it's horse racing, but meaning a safer. You know, you have a little more spready. You can make a little profit maybe, or you know go for the the big balloons by just keying the eight. So there's different ways you can play it, but those are some ways I would look at it. And I promise I won't talk as long on... the other races. So that's how I see the eighth race. And as far as the pick five goes.
Speaker: i'm going to try and spread a little bit here i'm definitely going to use a three and eight probably the six I might add the four and five in there. And if I can add the nine for six horses, I will, especially if the 11 takes a lot of money, then I will. But so I'm anywhere from. three deep to six deep in the pick five, depending on. the other legs and we'll get to those.
Speaker: I guess now if you're ready. Sure. Yeah. So second leg of Saratoga Saturday late pick fives race nine. It's a one mile event on the main track coming out of the Eric's favorite Um, Wilton shoot. And it's a nine words or one other than $120 ,000 allowance event where 10 are due to go post board. The morning line favorite.
Speaker: Unfortunately is the horse that I really like. The five, stimulate, I'll hold off. saying why, or maybe Eric will steal my thunder in his analysis.
Speaker: I won't. Oh why? Alright, well... Um, I can't believe you actually picked this horse. Last time he ran.
Speaker: And the reason why is that ah watching the races live and when when the horse wound up. Women. I was watching the...
Speaker: FS2 Fox or whatever channel it was on at the time. And in the winner's circle, or after the fact, um Maggie or Acacia or me. uh uh megan uh is interviewing bill mott And. He goes on to explain that ah the horses had some issues. That's why he had had been off since last August.
Speaker: and um at Back in. the winter time before the horse had issues. He thought this was going to be his derby horse. That's how. Much he liked.
Speaker: this horse's makeup how it moved on the track and whatever so The fact that the horse. wins He thinks that highly of the horse and maybe it's back. healthy. He's just taking the next logical step.
Speaker: uh, running the horse here in this, uh, nine winners, one other than so. um that was my decision in and Hey. I looked at at the rest of the horses. ah Maybe I'd be interested in. the eight Fact.
Speaker: Um... But other than that, I... Couldn't find any diamonds in the rough. Maybe you did. Not really. i just It looks like it's a good race. Again, we got a big field, which is great. 10 horses.
Speaker: I just, I don't have a strong opinion here at all. um A lot of these horses are stepping up in class. The one is coming out of a similar level, but at Monmouth, so a weaker race. The two is coming out of starter allowances. and For those who don't know what a starter is, sorry if you know and I'm talking to you like you're a child here, so I apologize because I know a lot of you do, but there's probably some people listening who don't.
Speaker: If you're in a starter allowance, that means... that you've run for a claiming tag, whatever the price is. So like last time, $50 ,000 or less or $55 ,000 or less. So the starter allowance has forces that... have running claiming races therefore they're not strictly allowance horses so a horse like
Speaker: stimulate who you mentioned, the five horse has not been, I mean, he's only run maybe special aid, but he hasn't been in any claiming race. So he would not be eligible for that race. He'd be almost like too good for that race. So. When you're coming out of starters, it doesn't mean you can't come up and step into a regular allowance race and win, but...
Speaker: It's harder. and Sometimes you get these old claimers that are hard -knocking claimers, so it could be ah a decent race, but generally they're a little weaker. ah The three is coming out of a starter allowance. The five stepping up off of maiden special weight you mentioned.
Speaker: uh the You missed the floor. Well, no, because he raced at this level. Oh, okay. go I thought there was more. Oh, the outside horse, the tennis. come on starline So anyway, I don't have a strong opinion. What I would say in this race is if you like stimulate.

And because we're going to talk about a race where there's, or a couple of ways where there's a lot of chalk, if I get stimulated here in a pick five, it's not really going to help me that much. Speaker: The seven I kind of like. I know it's a layoff. And I wouldn't necessarily endorse horse like this, but he's 10 to one. He can't break. Otherwise, I like him. I mean, I have pluses next to both of his races. ah He broke in last race. He lost momentum late on the backstretch. There's a seven enforced agenda. So he had trouble not just at the start, but.
Speaker: uh late on the back stretch too And it was in the Jerome, which I don't know how it. Stacks up to this field. But. I thought he ran. better than it looks question is can he break and in the wilton shoot you don't want to break slow and then get crushed or crunched and and you're dead so that could be bad for him that's why i wouldn't like single him or bet a lot of money on the seven but i think he might run a decent race here if he doesn't get totally left at the gate uh the...
Speaker: The five stimulate doesn't break sharply. That's one knock I have on him. I know it looks like you know he has speed a little bit, but he doesn't break that sharp. And that Wilton shoot, you know especially if the four gets out, or the six who doesn't break sharp either, if he gets out. The five can get squeezed back. and The Wilton shoot, I'm reluctant to take a small. or short price or a favorite because anything can happen out of that gate. So ah fact is fine. You talked about it a little bit. The nine play of the mar, I thought would be a shorter price, maybe because of the post position is not very good.
Speaker: you know way outside and they basically start on a turn so gonna get hooked wide but this horse was cut off early last time a little bit out of the wilton shoot so maybe you can get a cleaner trip this time and obviously speed figures are there to So. fit so again i don't really have too much here i'd probably use four six seven eight nine and try and survive this race i might even throw in the two if i can go deeper who's coming out of the start allowance I don't love the horse, but at least he ran fairly well. The jockey, Jose Ortiz, was very confident.
Speaker: on that horse last time he barely won but i think he thought he was gonna win by an easy amount and he was never really panicking. He knew he was winning the whole way. So maybe the margin of victory is bigger than it looks, if that makes sense. So that's my opinion. I'm really not betting the race. If I did, I'd throw a few bucks on the seven. Maybe it's like an action bet, just, you know, bet five bucks on the seven just so I can watch the race. But that's here. I don't want to BS the audience and talk like I'm betting a race and I'm not going to bet. So that's ah that's where I'm at.

Speaker: That's a good question. I don't know the answer, unfortunately. So it suggests a 75 morning line of horses dropping and has speed to make her own trip. So when you're dropping from grade ones where you've.
Speaker: run competitively and even won. a couple of them into a grain two. You have a... I don't know, Big Andrew and everybody. Class -wise, you have an edge here. Speed figures, she has kind of an edge if you're into speed figures.
Speaker: and she should be able to get a good trip. You're going from Dylan Davis to ah Pratt, who's run this horse a lot in the past, so you're getting a good jockey upgrade there. and The horse will probably be tough, but there are some horses who are pretty good in this spot. And again, if I'm looking there. You know, we can talk about the race vertically and horizontally. So horizontally, as far as a pick five.
Speaker: We'll get to the Alabama next. if you If you don't like counting stars next race, you want to beat counting stars in the Alabama, then sure. If you like suggested, go ahead. um But if you are going to be betting counting stars and singling counting stars, Having suggested, I mean, what does that do? You have two, and even money shot and a one to two shot or whatever in back -to -back legs.
Speaker: I don't see how you're going to make much money in the pick five. It doesn't mean you should indiscriminately just bet against one of these horses because that's the only way you can get money. But if you're going to bet a pick five, I feel like you're going to have to be.
Speaker: one of them or it's just not worth betting. At least to me, maybe if you put like. an eight dollar ticket in or something like that it might be worth it uh and bet it if you want to bet more money you can bet like two dollars on a you know 50 cent base. It pays eight it costs So for $2, it costs $32. You want to do that? or That's fine. That's not my style. So I look at the two big favorites and - I just I can't be counting stars. So I'm probably trying to meet Suggesta here.
Speaker: in the horizontals. As far as vertically betting, when I look at a race, and the horizontal is like a pick five. If there's a horse you don't really want to beat, but you feel you almost have to, like in this case, you can just not bet the sequence. But if you like other legs, it's like, I just got to get through this one leg. Maybe I can do it. Where vertically, you're just betting this race. If there's a favorite, and that's what I think you should look at. Look at the favorite. Do you like or dislike the favorite at that price?
Speaker: And. If you're like, I like the favorite, then you look at the second favorite. Do I like or dislike? If you dislike the second favorite, now we're talking business. If you like the favorite, you like the second favorite. That's where I'm basically out at that point on betting the race. Almost always.
Speaker: If you dislike the favorite, now I'm all in. I'm like, all right, let's figure this thing out. Let's let's get this. But if you... Think the favor is pretty good and has a very good chance of winning, but you really don't want to.
Speaker: bet the horse at that price but you don't want to bet against and it's a race you probably sit out so That's kind of where I am vertically here. This is another race. I might make an action betting horse I like at a price. And maybe I'll get into handicapping real quick here. Did you want to add anything before I do? Because I feel I talked for a long time there.
Speaker: Well... I... I would just like your... Your opinion on the fact that the second choice, the five. And one more time. definitely speed and you throw out two back when uh didn't get the lead in the just the game was If you...
Speaker: Watch that race um Classic Q, who won, was also trained by Mark Cassie. and Classic Q and One More Time were the only two speed in the race, and you knew one of them wasn't going to go.
Speaker: And the way JC. Rode the horse. He definitely had strict instructions. Don't get near Classic Q on the lead. He went three wide on both turns. Basically, uh... held the horse back. so Toss out that race as far as her true running style. so If she goes to the front.
Speaker: um Pratt's not going to. go out and... presser you know you when you see how flavoring pratt has has ridden Sagasta in the past. He hasn't been on the lead like Dylan Davis did that last race. So.
Speaker: If you like Segesta, maybe you better hope that... Kendrick Carmucho on the eight horse long ago. when he rotor uh two back you know coverage likes to he's He likes to get... horses forwardly placed.
Speaker: Hopefully that one goes. Or if you think. He's not going to kill long ago. then maybe... The horse to beat. The chalk is the five.
Speaker: And one more time. Yeah, one more and one more time, if I run well in the Just the Game, despite where it looks, yeah had she had a three -wide trip that day, really not ideal. Came back to win the Daily Rose, which was a...
Speaker: much weaker filminess. with an easy lead i don't want to hold it against her it's an extra 16th of a mile which i don't love for her so Hi. Eh, eh. I'm okay with the vibe.
Speaker: But I'd rather play against the five. Plus, I think Suggesta is going to, if she goes, or I think the eight's going to go, I agree with you about Carmouche. But, you know, Suggesta will be sitting right by the five, and I just think Suggesta's better. So I can't see betting the five here. I don't think that's how you're going to beat Suggesta, personally. So I'm onto some other horses here. And the horse I actually like, I don't know much about it as far as class.
Speaker: but the two sunlit uplands. I really like what I saw watching replays from Italy and Germany. Again, I don't know what she ran against. in those races but 2 Mac. Bye. In the race at San Siro in Italy, I think that's the track, she got off to a pretty slow start and made up some ground in a race.
Speaker: where... Speed did really well. And then last time she ran in Germany and I was a group three. I don't know if German group three is a weaker than.
Speaker: British and Irish and French group threes. They might be, but it is a group three. And. I thought she ran really well. She was... chasing what I would consider a very fast pace for Europe.
Speaker: The horses she chased, one was a long shot that faded badly. The other was a nine to one shot that faded till six. And I thought she won easily. She's just not great out of the gate. I don't think she's going to be able to show speed here, but she doesn't have to be amazing out of the gate. Just don't get off terribly. She can tuck in, save ground a little bit, maybe go right in front, right behind Ozara.
Speaker: And if there is a little patient. and johnny v saves ground she can find a way to win this. So I actually like. sunlit Uplands it to a good amount here. Again, I just don't know class -wise if she was running against good horses. I looked them up and all, and it seemed like, okay, they were fine.
Speaker: It wasn't like they were group two or three winners necessarily. but thats That's the worst that I would lean on here. in this race. Deep Satin, I would give another chance to. These are horses who are also in the Just the Game run, I thought, pretty well.
Speaker: in the just the game June 6th. I thought speed had a little of advantage. As you mentioned, Classic Q kind of just... you know had it easy on the lead for the most part and this horse tried to close into that pace and was steadied on the uh second turn in that race as well so between being steady and not having a pace i like that I don't know what happened last time, Deep Satin and the, uh...
Speaker: In the Della Rose. Maybe just try different tactics that didn't work because they saw. that and one more time was alone speed and they couldn't just let her go So they tried to stay close and that just cost.
Speaker: deep set in the end so i i kind of like deep satin here a little bit so i would use it too The three. I'll even throw in the four play with fire. who I know maybe isn't as good as these, but you're getting 15 to 1 on this horse, and I'm fine with that. I thought it ran pretty well in the Lake Placid. I upgraded that grade to, I know it was a restricted three -row race, but I thought it ran pretty well. Saved ground.
Speaker: uh Checked on the second turn, though, significantly, and was still gaining at the end in that race. So I thought it ran pretty well. and then The last race of the season for Keeneland, two back in the Valley View.
Speaker: um didn't really run all that well but it was the end of the campaign maybe she was wearing out by then Gets a freshening came back And probably leading the last race. She did hit the gate.
Speaker: Uh, even though she broke okay. And she saved ground. I just feel like maybe that was a prep and this is ah a spot she's more targeting. so I'm okay to play with fire and love the horse, but at a price, I'm okay with that horse.
Speaker: So I'm kind of all over the map here, but those are the horses that I'd be interested in betting in this race. And that's most of them, the two. the four uh two three four and of course suggest this should be tough so i can talk about betting the race but god why don't you say a few things if you have anything and then i'll just wrap it up and we'll move on quickly Now, you had mentioned the one horse that I thought I might.

Maybe suggest on top of those three. I don't know if I would box all four because.
Speaker: I mean... I don't know if that makes sense to box all four, but it's a possibility. Probably not would suggest them, but. I'll try and beat the five here who is capable of winning. And as far as the pick five goes.
Speaker: I'll use the two, three, four. there There's where I'm going to try and be suggestive. It might be a fool's errand, but I'm going to try. and I would throw in the one and seven even possibly. I don't really like that much, but I think they can win. If I'm trying to beat Suggest, I want to make sure I get through this race. I don't like the eight, even though it could show speed.
Speaker: And I know the five skateboard, but I'm not going to use her in the pick five. so If I try and be suggest, I'll use all the others other than the five, seven, eight. In the... um in the pick five So I guess 1, 2, 3, 4, 7, basically. I hope I said that right. Anyway, you you initially said six, but you meant seven.
Speaker: Yeah, and the pick five, seven. I'm sorry. Ciao. Pick five, I would probably go one, two, three, four. Seven. to get through the race, hopefully beat Suggest and the second favorite. She definitely has the pedigree to do that but in a grade one going against a monster. Is this the type of horse that you would have confidence in? backing or would you look elsewhere?
Speaker: Yeah, I mean, I have no desire to bet this race. at you know, one to two, whatever counting stars go off as. but Are you in agreement that you can't find... any of these others yeah i'm not trying to be their best and Counting stars.

And then the 3, 4, and 5 come out of the same race, which was a mile on the 16th.
Speaker: Looking at the replays, did you learn anything about any of those horses in those races? I did. And we talked about the pick five. I just talked about mine a moment ago. And I'm fairly deep in the first three legs. I'm singling the race 11, which is the fourth leg.
Speaker: And I'm going to single race 12. I know it's weird to end with two singles. And generally speaking, if I have two singles in a row, I'd almost rather play a double. Then the whole pick five. The problem is. The single and race 11 such a short price of the doubles not gonna pay anything And my goal in this pick five is to beat.
Speaker: pretty much all the chalks in the first three legs. And that'll give me a little bit of value to lean on the chalk late. And in this race, the single on the horse I like that I will be taking a stand on, no pun intended, is the one Stand the Rain.

Speaker: He's been on the turf twice. So the first time was October 26th, coming off with a little bit of a layoff. and you had uh Horse ran fine. You know, it came in fifth. Wasn't a steady block late, like had trouble. So. It looks better than it is, but everyone sees that in the comments. so no one You're not getting a short price because of that.
Speaker: However, Was off for a long time. So I don't know maybe something happened. Obviously may 25th comes back wants to go on the turf wants to go long So the fact that he's a mile and three -sixteenths and the fact that he wanted to run the horse, Clement wanted to run the horse a mile and a quarter. Fresh off the bench. I don't think he's worried about the distance here
Speaker: I don't care that the horse didn't run that well on the dirt. It's not really a great dirt horse. I know one race got a decent figure, but most of the dirt races sucked. So I'm not worried about that race. And then the last race, as you mentioned, running against a few of these, I thought the horse ran well. Steady slightly on turn one, then started pulling the jockey a bit. Had to go three wide to make a move on turn two. They ran that second quarter.
Speaker: In. What do you think? that that core The half? was in 49 -4. So I don't know about but your PPs. My PPs don't show the quarter time, but I watched it. So I wrote it down. Mine does.
Speaker: oh so i can't mine says what my Mine says 1, 13, and 4. No, no. Yeah, no, no the the half mile was 49 and 4 correct I'm saying, what do you, do you have the opening quarter mile 20, whatever? oh No, I don't. What do you think the. Second quarter of that race from the.

Speaker: So they went 23 -3, 26 -1. There was zero pace on. Not that I'm expecting a huge pace here, but... between the slightly stated early. on the first turn, and the horse was pulling one run. You now go to Jose Ortiz, you get a huge, and I like Jamie Rodriguez.
Speaker: You can argue he's a Jose Ortiz of Delaware Park. But... Hey, he's no Tyler Gafleon. and you getting sit Going back a couple podcasts. Yes, very good. So I really like this horse. Save ground. Shouldn't be too far back, I don't think.
Speaker: Jose put her in the race early. Yeah, he's already a four -year -old, so you can argue less upside, but I'm um'm a... I'm a big fan of this horse in this spot.
Speaker: So I'm all over the one. I'm going to single the one. I'll talk briefly about some other horses I'd use with him vertically or her vertically, but I'm going to single the one in the pick five. The other horse who I think has a good chance is your five, who I thought would not be the favorite, but maybe I'm wrong and and you like him too, her too. I didn't think. she'd be the favorite. Yeah, I heard third choice, actually, behind the one in the six is the second choice, the Chad. So we'll see what happens. But three to one, I don't like the five so much. At nine to two where I see her, I like her a little better. But this is a horse who last race.
Speaker: uh save ground but kind of got bottled up turn one and turn two uh I can't, uh, path was taken a little bit in the stretch and moving well when finally freeze. The horse had some trouble last time, like significant amount of trouble. And I think ran better than it looks.
Speaker: two back also steadied some so You're the clean trip. Finally, maybe this horse. ah The 5 -4 is secretly delighted. can do well here. And that would be my other horse. And I'd be tempted to add that horse in the pick five, but you know, again, I'm so with counting stars, I'm treating it like a pick four. and I don't know that I'd want to add the five. If there are some scratches and I'm not as deep in the first few legs, I can see maybe adding the five is the second horse here and going one five, but.
Speaker: That would be my other horses I like here. and There's one or two I'll talk about. I know we're approaching an hour, so I want to finish, but do you want to say anything else? I'll just touch on the other horses for a moment when you're done and and the bedding of this race. Now, other than I only.
Speaker: listed two of them here that i like and you you said your top selection was the the other horse that i like uh stand the rain so we're We're in agreement there.
Speaker: All right. So the the three home record I would want to use in some vertical bets, a 10 to 1 horse who was too wide, got bottled up in the top of the stretch, lost a lot of momentum, had to alter some. So coming off ah a troubled trip. Now, she didn't have much one free, but that probably took a lot out of her. She got a typical, I'm going to kill a jockey, Joelle trip last time. And now you're getting Kendrick, who I like a lot better. And there's not a ton of speed in this race, I don't think. And this horse has shown speed in the past. So I think the three actually.
Speaker: Possibly can show some speed, believe it or not, here with Kendrick. And get out. So I do like that horse, the three horse. The four is not terrible. Fango Creek I might want to use. The six is fine. I just don't want it at a short price. Ran fine in the same race as the one horse. I'm sorry. Ran fine in the same race. I thought she was out of the same race as some of the others, but I'm making a mistake.
Speaker: She's out of the, what, July 26th race to six horse? Who was out of that race? Was there another horse here or am I wrong?
Speaker: Uh, yeah, the, the one, two and six came out of the same race. Oh, that was a two back race. I'm sorry. Yes. Yeah. you oh That race, the six had a really good trip, I thought, but she was coming off a layoff. But this chat is usually ready off a layoff. I thought the horse ran fine last time, but I don't think the horse necessarily like made a big step forward last time. So do I want a short price on the six? probably not, although more than capable of winning. So I'm going to lean against the six a little bit, but I wouldn't be shocked. And you know even the eight's okay off the layoff, but again, a somewhat short price. I'm kind of leaving again.
Speaker: As far as vertically betting, I'm keying the one. Definitely. There's a race where if the one doesn't come in the top two or three, I'm not collecting. I'm going to go one with. three, four, five. I might even throw in the eight with him a little bit, but mostly one with the three, four, five. A little extra.
Speaker: One with 3 -5. I don't know if the morning line's right and the one is 9 -2. I could see using the 1 -5 a little extra, betting the one to win. And the triples, I take the same approach. You can see the betting is similar to one of the other races. I just key the one here, play around with the one a lot. And I mean, my only thing is I don't really have a big one. I guess the three is a long shot. So I probably try and tie the one and three together. I do like 135, 134, 138, things like that, a little extra. Those are, I mean, those are 50 cent.
Speaker: Boxes. uh three dollars if you're talking triples And you can play around that. You can put the one on top with the three. second and those horses third, the one on top of those horses. Second. I'm sorry, with the three second and the others in in third. So I go one, a bunch with three, one, three with a bunch, just as extra bets. Again, none of these are going to cost a ton of money and depending on your budget. and
Speaker: when we talk about these things you don't have to use my horses like i don't like just giving out horses I'd rather people just see how we handicap a little bit and maybe give them something to look at. And then think about betting. Maybe it's the three horse you like or or the five horse you like and not the ones. You can keep the five in a similar manner perhaps. But that's how I look at this race and and what I'm thinking here. so Talk for a long time.
