It being week one of fantasy, there's not much stats that we can provide because there hasn't been any games yet. So the thinking behind this week is what are going to be the keys to week one or some of the things just to take note of as you enter in week one and then

up into week two. so The first thing, don't overreact.

Week one is always noisy. Don't let one game rewrite your draft board. You drafted players for a reason. Just because they have a bad game doesn't mean you have to start hitting the panic button. Doesn't mean you have to start trading any of those players.

Don't overreact. Key number two, matchups matter. Early season defenses can be shaky. Lean into the favorable matchups while depth charts sta but stay stabilize. So if you see a team that has many new starters on defense, or if it's a team that has actually hasn't made many changes throughout the offseason or the defense and they were bad last year, ah attack that and see if that'll just provide value for your for your offensive player.

Snap shares versus box score. That's another key aspect. Pay close attention to who's on the field, not just who scored. Usage trends tell a real story. There's a lot of players that because their usage was high, you're able to kind of s snapck snag on on waivers or or maybe they might be undervalued in trade.

So four key points for this upcoming week one into week two, week two, and we'll jump right into our love hate pretty much the same format as last year. We're going to two QBs. We love and hate two QBs. We love two QBs. We hate one running back. We love and one we hate one running wide receiver we love and one we hate and one tight end we love and one we hate.

Yeah, so the first one that I love this week is going to be ah Baker Mayfield at the Falcons. A reason for that, I know both games last year ah versus the Falcons, he did have three touchdowns.

And actually in five career games versus the Falcon, he averages 230 yards passing per game, two and a half touchdowns per game, 105 passer rating, and having a 70% completion percentage.

And one of his perfect... um ah Perfect ratings came a member of the Browns, actually, when he played Atlanta. He had a 153.8 rating.

I really do like him this week against the Panthers. He now has two stud wide receivers and in BTJ and Travis Hunter. And ah Hunter is a starting wide receiver, so he's gets slated to play a lot more on offense, at least to start the year, as he was named a backup CB. So he's not going to be doing both.

um And honestly, what a game to start with, ah you know, to start with a bang going against the Panthers team who gave up an NFL record 534 points last ah last year.

But I love the Trevor Lawrence one. I think he's going to do really well this year with Liam Cohen, considering what Cohen did with Baker. So your Baker one was an obvious one. Your Trevor one is not so obvious.

Yeah, so the first QB is going to be Justin Fields versus the Steelers. um Not only have there been rumblings out of camp and even preseason has been has been pretty bad, but ah his first game does come against his former team who know exactly what type of player that he is.

um the Steelers will definitely ah you know block his run lanes and aim to keep him in the pocket, forcing him to throw in the direction of of Ramsey, Slay, or JPJ, Joey Porter Jr. So I think Mike Tomlin's going to have a pretty tight game plan to limit him in the run game, and i feel like it's going to be a long afternoon for Fields.

And, you know, he was drafted over the likes of Penix, Young, Tua, Geno Smith, Cam Ward, even Sam Darnold. ah You know, he led a first, he led a run first offense at at Michigan. And all of a sudden he's going to put up like these solid fantasy numbers. um I was kind of confused of where his is ADP kind of, his ADP was.

So, and now he's got to go on the road to Soldier Field underneath the lights on Monday Night Football in a and a division matchup. Like I unequivocally hate this matchup with a passion.

It's interesting, I think with J.J. McCarthy, you could you could see a world where it's successful considering the KOC aspect and you know the weapons, even though Addison is going to be suspended and and whatnot.

But we were very bearish on him, i think, in the offseason. And I agree the ADP is a little bit high. This is one that I would, you know, if in a 2QB, I would rather wait and see someone who has played at least a meaningful snap before. He's only played three snaps or he's only he's only passed the ball three times in his preseason last year.

if If I could add one honorable honorable mention that I love, and i was I was down on him a little bit during the preseason, and maybe because I drafted him in our ah Bush League in 2QB, but I actually think Sam Darnold could have an interesting game.

The Niners are starting nine new starters, a lot of young players. you know they lost they They lost Drake Greenlaw, Hufunga. ah Many other players are are defections from their defense.

Robert Salah's coming back, which is a good thing, but also a new defensive coordinator as well. So I think in their run-heavy pass game, it could be a way for Sam Donald to exploit the 49ers defense. so he's ranked 28th consensus.

That's extremely low. He is ranked even below like Geno Smith and Joe Flacco, which is crazy. So I think Sam Donald could be a good ah nice pick this week.

running back. So one running back I love this week. We're going to go back to Jacksonville in Duval.

Tank Bigsby versus the Panthers. So he is the consensus running back 34. There's been rumors that he may be the early down workhorse. And if you look at Liam Cohen, who is coming from Tampa Bay, he is the head coach of the Jaguars.

i think Bigsby could be the Bucking i Irving this year. And maybe Travis Etienne plays more of a Rashad White type role where he is the pass catching back. There's even in rumors that Etienne might get traded. So I really think they're going to try to feature Bigsby.

The Panthers allowed the most fantasy points to running backs last year, and Bigsby was far more efficient. He broke more tackles, and he had the larger rush share towards the end of the season. So I think he makes a very nice flex play for the Jaguars ah against the Panthers.

They don't have Derek Harmon. I know Cam Hayward is just coming back. Kenneth Walker and jack Zach Charbonnet, again, piggybacking on the Sam Darnold news with the fact that there's eight new starters.

This will shock shock some people. i really hate Omarion Hampton versus the Chiefs in the Friday night game in Brazil.

So he's the consensus RB 18. If we recall what the Chiefs did to Derek Henry last year in the home opener, 13 carries, 46 yards. The Chiefs defense is still vaunted with Chris Jones, George Karloftis, Leo Chanel, etc.

And they allowed the second fewest fantasy points to running backs last year, just ah next to the Eagles. For me, it's hard to trust Hampton as an every down starter in week one.

factoring Najee Harris will be back. And then, you know, how will Hampton fare in pass protection against that really strong front? So I'd be very cautious about starting him.

And in terms of honorable mention, we're going to stay in that game. actually like Isaiah Pacheco. um in terms Sorry, don't like Isaiah Pacheco, as an honorable mention. Chargers allowed the third fewest fantasy points running backs last year, and Pacheco's last two games against the Chargers, 28 carries, 87 yards, no touchdowns.

Yeah, honestly, the O'Meara and Hampton, I also fully agree with. um that's what ah we've We've said it before, right? What keeps rookies on the field is the pass protection. So if you don't have it, you're going to see less and less of the field, especially early on.

And the fact that, yeah, Najee is back in the fold. ah Look, how much work is he going to get? You know, seeing that he missed a lot or most of training camp. Yeah.

Yeah, harris Harris is one of those, like, he's going to have, like, 13-year career playing in many different spots just because of the fact that he's a vet. He's a smart player. he knows his pretty solid pass protection.

Yeah, first wide receiver that I love this week is going to be a Ricky Purcell at the Seahawks. So in another offseason where, you know, wide receiver drama took all the headlines, Ricky Purcell has been going a little bit under the radar.

So he'll, he could be in your hate column every single week, no matter what. um But look, you probably drafted dk to be your WR2, and I think he has a chance to hit top 24 numbers when it's all said and done. i don't i don't think it's out of the realm of possibility.

But with him and Rodgers learning a new offense, and the Steelers are historically a slow-starting team, and not to mention he's probably going to be shadowed by a Sauce Gardner all afternoon as well. So I can't see him putting up those WR2 numbers in in week one.

Like this is not the skill set of the type of wide receiver that Aaron Rodgers prefers. He likes precise route running and that's the weakest part of DK Metcalf's game. so I'll be very interested to see how he fares.

an honorable mention i love this week at the wide receiver position and think roman dunze could be an interesting play i'm gonna be starting him in bush league and either bush league or another one of my leagues and um i'm in five leagues so forgive me for for not remembering which one he's in but um minnesota played a ton of two high last year and dunze ranked quite well in terms of separation against two high safety looks so I have an inkling that he's going to be involved way more.

But if I could put put you all at ease for starting Njoku, Bengals defense allowed the second most fantasy points yards and touchdowns and the most catches to tight ends in 2024 so that's a recipe for success for him and in joku last year versus the bangles he had games with 14 and 10 targets and he went 10 for 76 for a touchdown in one game and eight for 66 no touchdowns in another game so

there was i know there was some buzz in the offseason and in preseason that, you know, with Michael Penix, maybe there could be a renewed emphasis to get him the ball. But Pitts was only targeted 10 times in three games last year when Penix was the starter.

And from what we've seen, again, i just don't see the need to rush into Cal Pitts. If you feel like there might be upside because of the talent, roster him if you're able to, but don't start him right away, despite the fact that the Bucs had a very poor defense.

Drake London has a 40% target share and target rate with Penix and the Falcons. Penix is going to go that way first and foremost, they style Darnell Mooney, and obviously b John Robinson is a big factor in the passing game.

He had no touchdowns last year. so TBD on how he will be used, especially with George Pickens. um So that's what that's one that I would be weary of.
