Not only was there the weather delay, like the stream was delayed. Like, i remember at one point I told you to stop texting me stuff because like youre going be like three plays before it happened.

00:00:41
Speaker
Now, let's join the conversation in progress.
00:00:47
Speaker
Just as we predicted. That's what I was going to say.
00:00:53
Speaker
Just as we predicted, ah lightning delays and oh my gosh game times being moved for the first time ever. we had We had a little bit of everything. We had a goal line stand. We had a goal line stand on the other side. like Like, bro, what is going on?
00:01:13
Speaker
Yeah. Yeah. um I don't man. That was a wild day. That was a wild day.

UGA Golf Course Adventures

00:01:18
Speaker
I think I actually got the notification that the game time had moved from Rodeo. I think like when he posted it in the chat, I was like, really?
00:01:26
Speaker
That was where I saw it first. um And was like, this can't be right. So i don't know i don't know if you um i't know if your dad mentioned it or not, but but when we were but we were we were obviously staying at your at your parents' house, yeah um Carter and I had a great great day at golfing on Friday. So I guess the that's kind of a segue into talking about the weekend overall, but...
00:01:52
Speaker
um when When your dad came downstairs, I did the pre i did my pre-run. ah Did it at East Jackson Park or something like that? I don't know. somewhere behind the Somewhere behind the biscuit place i was telling you about, the country cupboard.
00:02:06
Speaker
Yes. Um, yeah, I went for a run for an hour and then consumed about a day's worth of calories with one biscuit, which is the most amazing biscuit ever.
00:02:19
Speaker
But I came home and I was pouring a cup of coffee and your dad came down and I was like, hey, they moved the game time. And he just like looked at me and goes, haha, yeah. What? Yeah.
00:02:32
Speaker
He thought i was he thought i was pulling an April Fool's joke on him. but He literally texted me later and was like, I thought John was doing it April Fool's in September. I couldn't forget when that he was talking about.
00:02:45
Speaker
So good. So funny. Yeah. ah So that that actually kind of stunk a little bit because I had a little later start, which is kind of like a theme for me on Saturdays. But...
00:02:57
Speaker
um Got a little later start than I wanted to, mostly because I wanted to sleep, but um because the golf outing kind of wiped me. um but yeah it was super hot, right?
00:03:09
Speaker
Dude, Friday was so hot. like Carter and I ended up doing best ball on the back nine um just because we didn't want to mess around with it. And to recap for folks, so you played the UGA golf course on Friday. Yeah. card yeah Obviously a little birthday situation going on today for me.
00:03:27
Speaker
um But that was kind of my birthday present to myself was to go golf with my son on Friday. Friday and Will Morrison, shout out to Will Morrison, helped me out with getting tee time at the UGA course.
00:03:40
Speaker
And yeah, he it was great. The whole experience, man, that I tell you what, like the golf carts they have at the UGA course are pretty phenomenal. nice Oh, nice.
00:03:50
Speaker
Yeah, they have really nice golf carts. ah They are silver, um for those of you that are you curious. um They have a standing dog on them and a Power G. So if you're into such things, you'll be you'll be nice and you won't be double-logoing for sure.
00:04:07
Speaker
um facility is great um course is great um yeah it's a it's pretty wide open course um it's not like a narrow or anything like that like it was i mean i didn't i didn't lose any balls so there's that hey i can't i came away plus i came away plus balls yeah
00:04:31
Speaker
Amazing. That's actually a way that I started measuring my golf game was like how many golf balls. I'm like, I don't care what the score. If I made it three 18 holes with like one golf ball, like that's a big deal to me, you know? So, right.
00:04:42
Speaker
Right. Um, yeah, I was golf balls positive. I don't know that I made it with one ball. That'll take me some time to build up too. I feel like, yeah.
00:04:53
Speaker
um yeah Carter shot great. he was four over i think was i think he was a I think he was four over through the front nine. Nice. um That's good. yeah yeah ah Yeah. um he We actually played with a couple of walkers that only played the front nine.
00:05:10
Speaker
um One of them was like a basketball coach from Tequila who everyone on the course was calling coach. So I gathered that he played there a lot. Okay. um Nice. They were pretty good, but they were walking the course, which also made us go a little slower than usual.
00:05:26
Speaker
um But, man, it was like a sauna out there. Yeah. It was just so hot. Yeah. There was actually a game time decision on whether or not we were going to play the back nine. Okay. It was that hot.
00:05:39
Speaker
Yeah, it was that hot. um But i will say that the rain started coming in right as we walked up the 18th green. So it had cooled off like ah certain at a certain point.
00:05:51
Speaker
I want to say it was around hole 12 or 13. um The temperature dropped like 30 degrees and the weather just turned and it ended up being real nice on the the last you know five or six holes.

200th Episode Celebration

00:06:05
Speaker
um but But yeah, it was it was a fun day. it was a fun day at the course. um If you ever end up going, there's no food outside of like Smucker's sandwiches and like refrigerated sandwiches and such.
00:06:19
Speaker
So the clubhouse I was a little disappointed about, but um you know it is what it is. And I think I mentioned on the preview that there's You know, you can't get a beer or anything like that after your round. So no cart girl. Carter was pretty ah irritated about that as well.
00:06:36
Speaker
um But, but yeah, overall, it was a great experience for us. And, you know, we'll probably, we'll probably be back at some point. Nice. Yeah. I need to get out there. I actually have not played that course. So that's something that I need to correct here at some point.
00:06:51
Speaker
Which I guess I was thinking like, you know, they have student discounts. So like, if you were a golfer in college, like you should go and play the UGA course. Cause right. Why not?
00:07:02
Speaker
Right. Exactly. Exactly. Yeah. Take advantage of that stuff. That's one of those things that like, I didn't really I didn't play back then. So of course, you know, played golf when I was younger, John, that'd be so much better. I know exactly. That's, that's why Carter, Carter will be leaps and bounds better by the time he gets to be our age than we are. Hopefully.
00:07:20
Speaker
I want to, I want to make sure people don't think that I'm a bad podcast host by like, just to be clear, I've already told John multiple, happy birthday, multiple times today. Cause we've talked to him. yeah But I do have a i du a potential birthday surprise for you, John. I don't know if you noticed this through the show notes.
00:07:38
Speaker
That this is actually episode 200 of My God of Podcast. Did you realize that? Ooh, it is episode 200? Yeah, a monumental moment on ah the Austin Peay Review.
00:07:51
Speaker
Excellent. And we have cupcakes to celebrate the occasion. we have We have cupcakes to celebrate the occasion.

Game Delays and Humorous Anecdotes

00:07:59
Speaker
can't even see it but but there is a flame there there's a flame i see it oh nice so incidentally for those of you that don't know my oldest daughter is she she has the same birthday as i do so we have like a billion cupcakes that uh are slowly dwindling okay Nice. They may or may not be eaten by dad or small children that are sneaking cupcakes.
00:08:27
Speaker
Nice. So, yeah. Well, the birthday 200 episode. Who knew? Excellent. I like it. i like it. 200 episodes, Jim. Wow. I mean, who would have thought when I texted you?
00:08:40
Speaker
Like, hey, am I going to the podcast? It feels just like yesterday that we did live.
00:08:46
Speaker
Oh, man. Week of the first game. and Season slash Arkansas preview. First episode. Remember remember we have remember the like trap music, horrible intro music that I had before switched over to the band?
00:08:59
Speaker
ah vague I vaguely recall that. we should yeah We should bust that out for this episode just just just for shits and giggles. Go find the music. Sorry, Carter. Man, I don't even know if I still have that. I would have to i have to that's funny oh speaking of sorry carter uh i'm gonna i'm gonna irritate carter a little bit he's gotten to the age where he's irritated at his fandom and everybody everybody's saying sorry carter so every time someone would say sorry carter he'd he'd be like he'd just shake his head disgust and then it just became even worse like sorry sorry carter you're you're famous sorry carter Well, it's like, ah yeah, it's like the second you so you showed displeasure in it, people are just going to do it more.
00:09:44
Speaker
Yeah, exactly. but So if you ever see Zari Carter, just definitely let it land.
00:09:54
Speaker
Oh, man. It's funny because i had a couple of folks came up. john John's buddy, I think Jason. I'm sorry if I'm butchering it, but I think it's Jason. ah He came up to me and was talking to me about the podcast. and Landon, Rodeo's setup buddy for the tailgate, who does the podcast on TikTok where they do the pics. I can't remember the podcast name. Yeah.
00:10:18
Speaker
but uh he came up to me it was the mcgraw pick them the mcgraw pick them yeah yeah yeah he just picked up yeah you should guys should go follow and and uh check them out he was he was talking to me we were talking a little shop we were we were chopping it up about uh about his numbers is he's he said that he was very excited there so just got 4 000 downloads so that was cool Heck yeah. um Let's go. Yeah, we we were talking and he was talking about the podcast and how how much he loved it. And, you know, just goes to reiterate that, you know, there are real people behind the listeners and there are real people behind the microphones that yeah actually go to these games and tailgating matters. And I'm not happy when UGA takes an hour of it away from me.
00:11:06
Speaker
Yeah, that was wild. That was wild. I mean, I can't, I have not done any like crack research or whatever to see. Has that ever happened before or anything? Like, ah yeah i don't, I can't remember it. ah According to noted historian, noted wood historian, Lou, it had never happened before. Yeah. I mean, and you think about it. honda Ponda also chimed in with like her, her shock and quasi disgust as well.
00:11:31
Speaker
I mean, if you think about it, I think, i mean, the only, feel like the only reason it was really able to happen is because it wasn't on TV, like, or wasn't quote, unquote on TV that it was on the streaming. So I think that gave them the flexibility to do it the day of.

Game Performance Analysis

00:11:45
Speaker
So yeah. the The morning of, I mean, they should have moved up to noon to get the game over before the storm. Yeah, exactly. yeah, Yeah, dude, that's it came out of nowhere, too, because we were um and we decided to leave with your your parents. And I was like, I don't know if we're going to we were convinced that it wasn't going to get played because of how much it had been lightning. And, you know, every time the lightning strikes, it's like, you know, another time limit. it You got wait or whatever. Right.
00:12:16
Speaker
ah So we just retreated to the South south Kitchen and Bar, my home my home away from home ah yeah and in downtown Athens. um and ah But yeah, so we ended up just going to eat and ended up watching a good chunk of it actually at Onward Reserve downtown.
00:12:36
Speaker
Not a sponsor yet. um But Carter picked himself up polo, which was nice. He was super excited about that. um So, yes, it was it was a good it was a good afternoon, even though the game was somewhat.
00:12:52
Speaker
ah I don't know, between the weather delay, our first half performance, it was kind of a mixed bag. i think that, you know, I would I would just go ahead and get out of that game as quickly as possible, basically, and not have any injuries. I'm pretty sure it was there a running clock in the second half.
00:13:11
Speaker
and it felt like that It felt like that when they resumed play that it went really fast. Yeah, i think that's probably fair. I don't if there was a running If there was a running clock, I don't think Chase Daniel mentioned it on the broadcast.
00:13:26
Speaker
Chase Daniel. Which, by the way, his name was not in the, like, I i went back ah to look at, because remember we had talked about the announcers. they didn't They didn't have him listed last week when we did the preview.
00:13:39
Speaker
So, because I definitely would talked about that because I'm always fascinated by his NFL career. ah But anyways. About his career? His NFL career. Because, like, he was in the NFL for so long as a backup. Like, that guy made so much money as a backup quarterback in the NFL. ah seems kind of sounds It seems like an amazing job to me.
00:13:55
Speaker
Yeah, he's like the ah clipboard the clipboard carrier. He's really good at Missouri. He was really in college. I think he was their quarterback that like in 2007 when they were at like number one, or and at least up to number two or one at some point that year, that crazy year.
00:14:10
Speaker
Pretty sure he was a Missouri quarterback. anyways I remember him being highly touted. yeah Yeah, he was good. He's good in college. He's not very high on the dog's offense, though, if you check his Twitter replies.
00:14:22
Speaker
I saw that. I saw that. Yeah. Whatever. ah Screw you, Chase.
00:14:29
Speaker
I think we need to actually get into the game. I mean, we're... yeah, yeah. So I was going to say, the only other thing on the delay thing was there was the weather... Josh is josh is like rage just like having a rage stroke right now. Josh like, how are you guys going to get done in like four minutes?
00:14:42
Speaker
Yeah. Not only was there the weather delay, like the stream was delayed. Like, i remember at one point I told you to stop texting me stuff because like youre going be like three plays before it happened. Um, that was kind of, that was weird.
00:14:55
Speaker
Um, Kim actually got on, she got on me because like, I can't be like, ah, the Georgia Twitter account spoiled touchdown for me. And like, I didn't say it until after we saw the TV and she was like, you got to stop checking your phone, like turn off your notifications. was like, all right, fine.
00:15:09
Speaker
yeah but Yeah, but it's Twitter. Right, right. It was pretty funny. It was pretty funny. um But yeah, I mean, okay, so the actual the game itself. It was very weird because like that first drive, like like right the jump felt good.
00:15:24
Speaker
like It seemed like ah we're off to a good start. And then the fumble happens. We give the ball away. And then you know defense is great. It was big three and out, something like that. Get the ball back. um But I don't know.
00:15:37
Speaker
don't know. I guess it was just never, never really got, never really got going. um Definitely frustrating to watch. Stats he were generally fine, you know, like, but watching it weird, the gold line stand that they made was, it was something that was wild.
00:15:53
Speaker
Yeah. I mean, you look at the, you look at the drive charts and it's like, I don't know if something happened, you look at the drive charts and you're like, okay, obviously the first quarter of four plays in a fumble.
00:16:03
Speaker
That's not, that's not sparking joy. Right. But then they they went three and out and we got the ra ball right back. And then we went on a 10 play 80 yard march, um which ended up being the deciding score, ironically enough. Fair enough. Yep.
00:16:21
Speaker
So one might say that we Kirby Death March them in the first quarter, Jim. Yeah. I mean, we, we did in the, the last touchdown drive, like we did, we did, ah we did the Kirby's death march to Austin P 17 plays, 99 yards, eight minutes and 43 second touchdown drive.
00:16:38
Speaker
That was, that was the Kirby. Like, let's, let's see how long we can hold onto the ball guys. Yeah. Yeah, that was like time to time to pack it up and get out of here. Yeah, exactly. um But then, yeah, somewhere after it was it was, yeah, after the touchdown in the second quarter, from there, Austin Peay scores a field goal.
00:16:59
Speaker
Then they give up the interception. and between that, we get, you know, in between their field goal and our interception, we went three plays, six yards. Like, talk about things that do not spark joy against a against Austin Yeah. Yeah. Juggernaut. I think i joked that they were one double a or whatever. um Right.
00:17:19
Speaker
The, let's it so the interception and then they, then we get, then we get the ball back and we only only went five plays and did one you and got one yard. So we had eight plays for seven yards in two series.
00:17:33
Speaker
That's crazy. That's crazy. And that was the end of the half. and Then we went to the end of the half with 10 plays, 53 yards. And that was where everything died. And that's where I feel like that the entire world imploded.
00:17:46
Speaker
ye Everyone was so mad. like the the Like every text thread was melting down. Twitter was ablaze. um It was definitely, it was something. Yeah.
00:18:00
Speaker
All I know is is that there was a picture of the score at that point and then with the weather delay, and there was a bit giant lightning strike. If you haven't seen it, check out my timeline.
00:18:11
Speaker
There's a giant lightning strike, and everybody that I knew that was like, hey, how was the game? Did you have have a good time? and i so i would send them the picture I would send them that picture and be like, it was it was so upsetting that the the Lord did not the lord was not ah not happy with the the uga off so Right.
00:18:30
Speaker
Right. Yeah. Um, it was weird. I mean, like the, you know, you could tell that the game plan was very, was more like whatever you want to say, vanilla basic, even than, than the Marshall one was like things we didn't see. Like we didn't see Gunner running the zone read. We didn't see the option. Like we didn't see that stuff. We didn't really see Gunner running except for when he scrambled.
00:18:50
Speaker
Um, which I mean, there was one, the first drive, I think where they blitzed and mean, they were on him instantly and he had to scramble. It got positive yardage. So like, that was the thing. Like to me again, like, like we talked to about like, what are we looking for? And I think someone had asked like, how do you see offensive line improvement against an opponent like this? And we were saying like gaping holes, like getting a big push.
00:19:12
Speaker
And that's what we didn't see. So yeah, I don't know man. Like we didn't, you know, we didn't have, um, we didn't have one Gaston. Uh, we didn't have Ernest Green, which, which was kind of expected. Um, so they weren't out there, but like still, I feel like the guys who were there, um, we should have been able to, to execute better.
00:19:30
Speaker
So I think it was a basic game plan, but like there were things that were being done that they should have worked. I would say go watch, you know, or maybe don't, um, it's frustrating, but no, you should like go watch. Like coach Hayes has some breakdowns of,
00:19:45
Speaker
Some of the plays that I think are pretty eye-opening to see like stuff was there and we weren't blocking um appropriately, especially on that goal line play. Even like the first play of the game, go watch that play. It just looks all, it looks weird.
00:20:01
Speaker
It's a jet sweep or kind of pot pass slash jet sweep to the left. and Like the blocking looks like it's to the right. It's, it's really weird. Everything about that game was weird, Jim. Yeah. Yeah. I will say, i told you to watch out for Ellis Ellis um on Austin B. He was the one that he actually caused ah ah the Nate Frazier fumble on the first drive.
00:20:20
Speaker
So you heard it here, folks. Blame Jim. Sorry. It was my bad. Ellis Ellis. can't we mean And like he had his first name and his last name on his jersey. Kim was like, Ellis Ellis? What's what's happening?
00:20:33
Speaker
If if if the guy if a guy has his name as his first name and last name, he's definitely a guy to watch out for. And he's a junior. He's LS Ellis Jr. What a name. I imagine he's probably going to... He'd probably be transferring somewhere, is my guess.
00:20:49
Speaker
But wait wait until LS Ellis III comes along. Yeah, exactly. One to watch out for in the future. um We did get the return of Brett Thorson. We need get a positive here.
00:21:00
Speaker
quick positive. I didn't notice that. so yeah To be fair, I wasn't paying a whole lot of attention to the punting situation. was probably like saying a lot of sorry, Carters.
00:21:12
Speaker
Not paying attention. not attention Brett 175 yards, long of ah one inside the twenty no touchbacks and no plant returns amazing We are so back.
00:21:26
Speaker
So that's my point. No returns. No returns. I like it. i'll take I'll take that all day long. The booming onion is back, folks. Yeah. Yeah. I mean, you know, the defense played good.
00:21:38
Speaker
Defense played lights out right? a Other than the the second half where they were really threatening. um But I think we have enough walk-ons and things like that. Yeah. Yeah.
00:21:48
Speaker
Only had 196 total yards. um It was pre pretty pedestrian from a penalty standpoint. so I feel like we've been playing pretty disciplined ball here um from the penalty situation for for Georgia.
00:22:03
Speaker
So that's that's that's a positive. Yeah. yeah We held them to three out of 13 on third down conversions, so that's good. um Yeah, I mean, overall, i think that if you were to take away the weirdness of the game and some of the fluke plays, like the fumbles and things like that, I have a feeling that the narrative is a little bit different if we can just execute just a little bit better on some of those plays.
00:22:29
Speaker
But that said, that's why people are looking at this game and saying and seeing these other teams like, your Alabamas and your Tennessees of the world scoring 70 points or whatever. So, yeah, um I think that's the thing that people are looking for. They're looking for some they're looking for some style points in an era where style points matter not.
00:22:50
Speaker
That's a good point. but They don't matter. And I'll go back to the play calling. I still think i still think we left points on the board with the plays. Like, I don't don't want to sound like, oh, well, it was vanilla offense, so therefore we shouldn't like succeed and score points. Like, i don't like that's not...
00:23:06
Speaker
the plan, but I think the plan is, Hey, we're not going to show much, but you should still be able to execute what's called and score. i mean, like the plays were called to be able to score, um on the goal line.
00:23:20
Speaker
I'll say that. Um, but you know, like players have to execute it Coaches have to have the players ready to execute it. Like it's on everyone there. Um, and so I don't know, like, yeah, it was vanilla, but I shouldn't really matter against that opponent.

Expectations and Team Development

00:23:33
Speaker
That's kind of what's frustrating, but you're right, man. Like take away those two turnovers. Like those, both of those were like, we were driving and felt like, you know, um especially in the first drive, the second one where, I guess we were on our side of the field still, but we were starting to move the ball. And then we fumble like, yeah, I got to cut that out.
00:23:50
Speaker
Can't have that. Right. Right. Yeah. um Yeah. I mean, I think that it went about as good as I kind of expected, I guess. I mean, I guess it didn't go as as good as I could could have thought. But, mean, we still won by multiple touchdowns. Didn't give up a touchdown.
00:24:07
Speaker
yeah and I believe, i haven't looked at the injury report, the camera other than other than Ethan Barber, which, good Lord, that was that was ugly. i haven't seen any of the replays. Did they show it on the TV?
00:24:21
Speaker
Um, I looked away like I, because you had texted about it, like think you saw it in the stadium, um, yeah to some extent. And so i I saw it like once and then I just didn't watch again.
00:24:34
Speaker
Someone posted like a field level view or like from the stands or something on TikTok that I saw, um like on accident, I ah was just scrolling and I saw that. I was like, ah, I didn't want to see that.
00:24:45
Speaker
um So I have seen it. Yeah, that was, that did not look good. ah Prayers out for Barber and hopefully, hopefully a speedy recovery for him. I saw his dad, his dad tweeted.
00:24:58
Speaker
So I know he's got a recovery road ahead of him, but we've got a, we've got a great staff in Athens that I know will take care of him. Yeah. prayers Prayers for that young man, for sure. Yeah. um yeah Did not look pretty in the stadium, that's for sure. Yeah, no, yeah.
00:25:17
Speaker
It did not look good. um But other than other than that, were there any other injuries? Yeah. Not that I recall. um Here, let's I was going to give a positive thing. We did we got to see Ellis Robinson got interception.
00:25:31
Speaker
Yeah. That was good to see. That was fun. I know that was a moment. I know you I think you were talking that moment up, like good team-building moment. think you said that like we all like celebrating everything. Yeah. I mean, from what I recall on that one, think that was in at the point where we were not at the stadium, if I remember correctly. But um Yeah, he he got the interception and everyone just stormed down the field. at one point I was like, wait, was that a pick six? Like what just happened?
00:26:01
Speaker
Was that a pick six? Because the whole team ran into the end zone and it just seemed like it was a good moment for the defense overall because they were so hyped for Ellis Robinson. So there was a lot of fire, passion, and energy in that situation. Nice, nice. I like it.
00:26:18
Speaker
like it. Yeah. Well, I mean, don't man, like you said, it's a win. It was a multi touchdown win. You're not going to learn anything. Like if we had beat them by a ton, i don't think we're going we wouldn't know anything more about this team.
00:26:31
Speaker
don't think really. um I think now the coaches have some film that can go over this week and you don't have everyone flying so high, hitting into the next game at a Tennessee. I think you kind of keep them down to earth and you know, have them working hard and get ready for the week.
00:26:46
Speaker
So I'll give another positive that i had mentioned on the first episode on the Marshall Review that I mentioned was something that we probably want to keep an eye on.
00:26:58
Speaker
Granted, there are some grains of salt that you can take with this number, but Gunner Stockton, 75% completion percentage. Yeah, yeah, that is true. That is true. A lot better than the fifth. I think it was like 50, 60 something percent on the first game. So ah granted, a lot of those are short passes, which there's certainly hairs that we can split picking nits or picking pepper out of the...
00:27:23
Speaker
picking Picking fly shit the pepper, is as Josh liked to say on the 20-minute podcast. Sorry, Carter. But, you know, I think that I'd like to see him throw it downfield a little further. um That was kind of the the takeaways that I had.
00:27:41
Speaker
As I was watching, you know, there were just multiple plays and eventually the broadcast booth, you know, they were they were going in on some of the opportunities as well, like the hesitation. and um yeah, I think the Gunners just got to evolve as a quarterback. um You know, that this is we're watching a kid grow up live right now.
00:28:01
Speaker
Yeah, yeah, for sure. um I would definitely recommend going and listening to... There was an interview this offseason, Josh Pate interviewed Kirby, and he talked about that a lot around... Now, this isn't... i I guess it doesn't so much apply to Gunner, but...
00:28:18
Speaker
Maybe I would say this applies to our offensive linemen. Some of the struggles that we're seeing because these guys are young. We're talking freshmen and redshirt freshmen, et cetera, around like that in college football, coaches need two years to get someone ready. They need they need you two years in the program to have you ready to play.
00:28:33
Speaker
And in today's college football, like you don't have that much time. But what he was saying is there's no way to speed it up. So like you need two years, but you don't have it so you've just got to play them anyway. um So you have to like do things to try to protect these guys that really aren't ready, would not be on the field on past teams.
00:28:50
Speaker
and But with today's cultural ball, you don't have a choice. um So you got to throw them out there. um So I think that helps explain some of this stuff, but I think they're going to have to...
00:29:01
Speaker
Now they'll, they'll, they'll grow up. They won't be, they won't be freshmen, you know, here pretty soon. They'll be, they'll continue to learn and get better. So now that's for the line, but yeah, I'm with you. I mean, I think, I think we've seen Gunnar throw it downfield. We've seen him do it in prior seasons.
00:29:15
Speaker
um We're going to need to see it this week. I'll say that. And definitely want to see that for sure. Yeah. um I mean, I guess what I was going to say was, ah you know, at the end of the day we won, could be worse, could be Florida.
00:29:30
Speaker
We could be Florida.
00:29:34
Speaker
Man, how about that? Like, golly, dude. ah Billy Napier is Billy Napier has got some problems. Yeah, that was wild. That was I'll be surprised if that man lasts through the end of the season.
00:29:49
Speaker
I think that game was an example. ahead. No, go ahead. i was just going to I was just going to say that there there could be multiple SEC jobs open before the end of the season is my prediction.
00:30:03
Speaker
Definitely possible. Um, on the flip side of that, you got Mississippi state beating a ranked team in Arizona state. Um, that was wild. I think it just kind of goes to show this was one of those weekends where you look at it on the schedule and you're like, ah, there's not really much going on this weekend. And like the quote best game is going to be that Michigan, Oklahoma, which was, um, wasn't as it entertaining.
00:30:25
Speaker
I don't think, um, dominated that game. So like, you know like The good games, the fun games were Mississippi State, Arizona State, and Florida USF. ye and then demeter bill Vanderbilt poured it on Virginia Tech. Vanderbilt looks good. and we got we got these these These regional games are always fun. so Whenever a team wherever teams from Florida are playing each other, it's usually pretty good.
00:30:52
Speaker
yeah um i think it's still I'd be curious to know what the Arizona State fans thought of Starkville. I know. I know. Well, did you see that they were like, they were doing, um, like cowbells at practice at Arizona state, but like not loudly enough.
00:31:09
Speaker
They were just, they were just like, like shaking it like, so like a, like a so salt and pepper shaker. yeah. ah yeah So I don't know. I don't know.
00:31:20
Speaker
yeah, it was, i don't It was a fun weekend. Fun weekend. I caught football overall. Um, actually that, oh, ahead. I was about to say, I think you're going to go, are you going to segue into your dominance of the weekend on coaches over unders?
00:31:32
Speaker
weather Well, I mean, yeah, we don't have to. Yes, I was. No. But yeah, only in the picks though. So on coaches pick them.
00:31:44
Speaker
Yes, I had dominated. um So I'm, I'm still not like great. It's hard to pick games. I'll say that even when we don't even use the spread. So on the year I'm four and four, you're two and six on the pick them games. I went two and one. You went, you went over for this week, JP on the picks is is a rough week. That's okay. This is why we don't say that's what I said. That's what I said. It's terrible week, and terrible week on now.
00:32:05
Speaker
However, on the, on the standard over unders you held steady. um We both went three and five. ah So you maintain your lead. yeah You're maintaining a one pick lead on me thus far.
00:32:19
Speaker
So I'll take take it. um'll take it So shout out coach trail. Thank you again. as always. Yes. For sending those and tracking them. Much

Weekend Reflections and Community Interactions

00:32:29
Speaker
appreciated.
00:32:29
Speaker
Indeed. Yes, sir. Missed you. Missed you this weekend. I wasn't there either. So I can't say that, but I think i still miss, actually, I still miss coach. chiville I just wasn't there. and Mr. Too buddy.
00:32:41
Speaker
Uh, but I think he's having fun where he's at. For sure. Um, what else we got, Jim? um It's Austin I had some stuff jotted down. I think we hit we hit everything jotted down.
00:32:55
Speaker
Yeah, it was it was a shotgun start. um Just, just ah you know, I feel i feel bad. i want I want to go back to this because I feel bad i feel bad for some folks because um Bobby and Anna, they were hosting or had some, I think Anna's cousin and was in town, who incidentally, the cousin's husband was friends with a good friend of ours in Marietta, which just like, holy cow, what a small world, you know?
00:33:24
Speaker
That's back-to-back weeks for you. last year was in and Last week was an announcer. This year it's Bobby and Anna's friend. like Yeah, exactly. um But they they were coming in town from Savannah.
00:33:35
Speaker
so and yeah If you're coming in town from the further reaches of dog... dog dog fandom like in the university changes the game time that could that could seriously alter your your plans so i don't know yeah it's tough it's it's tough i i find it hilarious that it also happens on the heels where kirby lectures the fan base about uh about showing up I know.
00:34:01
Speaker
and I was definitely waiting for the... ah and don't know if this happened or not. I guess it probably didn't, but I was waiting for the like question to Kirby about late arriving crowd when the game was moved up. The funny thing to me was, i don know if you saw this, where the like reporters were posting videos of like during the weather delay, it's like lightning and it's like storming, but the frat kids were still like in their seats.
00:34:25
Speaker
yeah I can't remember who it was. I think it was probably Skinny. It was like Plot Twist. Yeah. This week, the the frat kids are the only ones still here.
00:34:35
Speaker
That's funny. That's funny. I bet that there were some pledges. There there was definitely some pledges involved with that. Right. Right. for sure. So, yeah, I thought that was funny. What else you got, Jim?
00:34:46
Speaker
I don't think have much else. um yeah we We successfully moved Ella into college, um or back to college, I suppose, sophomore year for her, um down in Savannah.
00:35:00
Speaker
Did that, made it home, spent the day watching football around here with Kim and Lily. We had the bean dip. We had bean dip and wings for our are fair during the game.
00:35:11
Speaker
um Incidentally, they had wings at the tailgate. Ooh, nice. Carter said they were delicious. I didn't have any. Okay. I was still digesting the biscuit. The biscuit. I have to go to that place. Like I said, that place used to be something else and now it's, I have not been to the new place yet.
00:35:26
Speaker
So we' gotta check it out. Is that technically in Nicholson? I would say that's in Nicholson. Yeah. That's in Nicholson. Yeah. The country covered in Nicholson folks, Carter, Carter, sorry, Carter approved number one biscuit, chicken biscuit he's ever had. Yeah.
00:35:42
Speaker
And I concur. i concur And I actually rolled the dice on, hey, hit me with your best biscuit. And they said, it's the tenderloin. The tenderloin egg and cheese was it was just heavenly.
00:35:56
Speaker
That sounds amazing. There's a dude that like kind of does the the food reviews in Atlanta, but it's like a white guy instead of the the black guy that does the... Keighley.
00:36:07
Speaker
Keighley the... Yeah, yeah, yeah. it's like though It's like a white dude that goes around does it stuff. And he actually came the Minute Saver up here in Marietta, which, by the way, if you guys are ever in Marietta, you should definitely need breakfast biscuit.
00:36:22
Speaker
Go to the Minute Saver um on Due West Road right by my house. um Amazing biscuit. But the biscuit at the country cupboard just absolutely blows it out of the water.
00:36:34
Speaker
Not a sponsor yet. We have to go talk to them. Oh, that's a good idea. we we should give them some good merch ideas. Yeah. Oh, I think I sent this to the chat, but um they asked me, I was wearing my Cheerio and Go Dawgs. That was my pre-run shirt.
00:36:51
Speaker
Oh, yeah. yeah um I didn't take a picture, but um the the lady that was ah cooking was like, Cheerio and Go Dawgs. What's that mean? And so I had to explain to her.
00:37:03
Speaker
about Cheerio and GoDog. So shout out British Bulldog. You may have some Country Covered Nicholson ah employees as new follows. And several of them asked about the website to buy merch.
00:37:14
Speaker
ah Nice. Nice. ah love it. Spreading the word. Spreading word. Yeah. you know they You know what the Country Covered might need is working web media. Workingwebmedia.com slash dogs.
00:37:25
Speaker
Sure. I believe that that is a wonderful ah wonderful plug. and or An organic So organic, so organic. so organic so We saw, oh, I got to see Archie. Dwight was there too.
00:37:41
Speaker
that's right. Dwight was back in town. I didn't get to talk to him too much, but he was definitely, ah here here was he was popular man around town with Archie there. Archibald. I'm sure.
00:37:52
Speaker
Let's see here. What else we got, Jim? um Did you get Raising Cane's on Friday? That was pretty solid. was and it would no No Little Italy at all, though?
00:38:04
Speaker
we did not We did not do the Little Italy. Like I said, um the food situation, i did not have to worry about after the country covered. um yeah But um until I went to South Kitchen and bars, I was saving up for South Kitchen. that was really the that's That's really the the true reason.
00:38:24
Speaker
Carter asked me if he asked me, he did open the door for it. Are going to stop at Little Italy? said, I don't know. Maybe we'll see. a Nice. Well, cool.
00:38:34
Speaker
Well, I'm glad y'all had fun on the course. Ponda, same as bed and breakfast. Sounds like it was good weekend. It was a good weekend. And actually, like, I was worried because I didn't even think about this, but that was the first time that we'd actually stayed at their house where then no one else was staying there.
00:38:52
Speaker
So Carter actually got his own bed. oh yeah That was nice.
00:38:59
Speaker
ah Nice. That's awesome. Yeah. need to you built up You booked a multi-room stay. so you book We the suite.
00:39:10
Speaker
<unk>s great The suite at Ponda's famous bed and breakfast is amazing. yeah Too good. Too good. ti ah Yeah, they the the people that I mentioned that the that we had ran into that were like from Savannah or whatever, they were like, where are you guys staying at? I said, I'm staying at the most amazing bed and breakfast in the history of the world.
00:39:32
Speaker
And Anna goes, Anna goes, where?
00:39:38
Speaker
that's great. That's great. I'm assuming my parents were not in earshot when that happened. They were not, actually. We had moved on to Hug Dogs. Shout out Hug Dog. Everybody was in a mag scramble, I think, the hour.
00:39:51
Speaker
And the the weather coming in, like, we kind of walked down to Hug Dogs to because ah John's friend Jason was a mentor for for one of the Huggins, Hampton's cousin.
00:40:02
Speaker
I can't remember the kid's name, but he's he has a Huggins that he was mentoring at work. And so I wanted to make sure that I introduced him because he didn't know where they were. Okay. gotcha But they were they were in a mad scramble too.
00:40:13
Speaker
I got there just in time to watch Girls Talk Ball ah yeah do the gartt do the Call call the Dogs nice um as they do with the ah the fireball dance down there.
00:40:26
Speaker
Yeah. yeah So that was fun. Cool. Matt Key gave me a big hug. Blue flame recipient from last week. Yeah. You never know. You might get a blue flame if you send a question.
00:40:37
Speaker
That's true. That's true. You too, dear listener, can get a blue flame. That's right. That's right. You just got to bring the fire, passion, and energy to the listener questions. To the listener questions. Exactly.
00:40:48
Speaker
oh man. But yeah, good weekend in Athens. And dogs win. Dogs win big. Keep it in perspective. Keep the main thing the main thing. Keep chopping. Better never rests.
00:41:00
