didn't even occur to me that everybody was wearing 49 because they're the 49ers like I was like oh who's number 49 you must be someone's mom like no we're the 49ers oh god I'm an idiot

Speaker
Now, let's join the conversation in progress.
00:00:51
Speaker
Fairly close to as we predicted. Yeah, pretty close. Pretty close. Just a... Yeah. I mean, i think that everything that we wanted to accomplish, we accomplished.
00:01:03
Speaker
Other than, you know, the whole covering the spread over 30 points thing. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Which, and at this point, we just need to know, like, Kirby doesn't do that.
00:01:15
Speaker
So... Yeah. um I think that it was just a situation where we got to 35. No one was hurt. And Kirby was like, yeah, this is fine. and hold this we'll just We'll just pack it it I feel like we totally we totally shut it down. like i felt The way I felt was it was like, I think Kirby was mad that we didn't score like right at the end of the first half.
00:01:37
Speaker
And so then he like left Gunner in for the first drive the second half. We scored. And was like, all right, that's all we needed to see. And we're done. So ah my my two cents on that, I think that they didn't want him to end his day on an interception. Okay.
00:01:51
Speaker
Yeah. Because that's when that's when he threw the interception, right? And then they went down and we were like, oh, crap, now they're to score. Now they're going kick a field goal. Yeah. Yeah. Sounds right. I don't even remember at this point.
00:02:03
Speaker
um But yeah, don't know, man. My notes on this game were like, Nate Frazier had two touchdowns. Bo Walker had three touchdowns. don't think anybody got hurt. This has been my got a podcast.
00:02:16
Speaker
Georgia good. Charlotte 49ers, not so

Pregame Festivities and Merchandise

00:02:19
Speaker
good. Although I will say um pregame festivities, my ah my dummy head walking around campus, seeing all the Charlotte people, and then like immediately he saw people wearing 49 as the jersey.
00:02:35
Speaker
And it didn't even occur to me that everybody was wearing 49 because they're the 49ers. I was like, oh, who's number 49? You must be someone's mom. No, we're the 49ers. Yeah. Oh God, I'm an idiot. That is classic. Oh, that's great.
00:02:51
Speaker
Like just completely oblivious. well i i already felt like I botched the pregame because like when we were texting and you were like, I'm in at the dog walk. And so I was like, okay, I guess we'll just kind of go over that way. And so we went straight to hug dogs. And then like, we watched bit the dog walk.
00:03:10
Speaker
And then you're like, I went back to Morris hall. I was like, ah, I guess we we should have gotten there first. My bad. Well, yeah. I mean, my my my flow is, you know, we park over there um on that side and we went down to the bookstore, spent some money at the bookstore, spent a bunch of time finding the right sweatshirt gym.
00:03:32
Speaker
um It's important. Yes. Yes. ah to to So I had Caroline with me, so... um one of my middle kids um and i introduced her as this is caroline this is sorry carter's counterpart um and everybody was very complimentary of her hair she's got red hair so she's um you know she sticks out little bit um so she wanted to go down to the bookstore and she wanted to spend some money into her credit you know she didn't she got a sweatshirt i was like you want anything else and she's like no i'm
00:04:07
Speaker
yeah I'm good. um I take that back. She did want some Skittles. We got some Skittles, which she used and Archie, Dwight's dog. Archie was was very interested in her Skittles.

Tailgating and Game Day Experience

00:04:20
Speaker
yes um nice yeah so we went so we had to go back to the car and drop off you know drop off or our our uh our merch our merch purchases so that was went back to morris hall hung out sauce bobby and anna um brian muster was there and uh rodeo and kelsey had and arrived um so it was great greg was there we got to got to talk to everybody Matt was there, sans Paige, and their crew.
00:04:49
Speaker
um But yeah, it was it was nice. It was it was ah it was definitely, a even even the express tailgate for Charlotte with the Morris Hall crew was more elite than most people's normal tailgates.
00:05:02
Speaker
Yeah, that surprise that should surprise no one. Yeah, yeah. Always elite. um Yeah, we we we came in and like went, so we parked in the North Texas. We basically walked behind the stadium, kind of what our run path was.
00:05:17
Speaker
i will say we actually saw a ton of people. We ran into the cheerleaders and all kinds of people on the on the backside of Sanford on East Campus. And came around that way and then went up the stairs and ended up bridge ish, like by Sanford drive and listened to the battle hymn, um, the, the, the dog walk started and then kind of head on, head on down to the hug dog. So it was, it was just Kim and I, so we had no kids. So it was Kim and I, and then we were with, uh, my sister brother-in-law and nephew Braden and, um,
00:05:50
Speaker
Sophia and her crew made it over to Hug Dogs, actually, so got to see them see them as well. So it was fun. And ah Ponda's famous house watch party. my My parents, they stayed back and watched it. um i got I got surprised by the got surprised by the rain. like it was supposed to rain like super early and then like so i wasn't i mean, i i had a Poncho because I'm always paranoid. So we brought stuff and i did actually use it for a little bit.
00:06:17
Speaker
Um, allowed me to kind of walk around a little bit in the rain, went over and hung out with Robert Wolf for for a little bit, but, um, I guess at least it didn't last long. Yeah, no, the rain came out of nowhere. We had to kind of move move stuff around at the Morse Hotel gate to kind of get everything under the under the tents and such.
00:06:34
Speaker
and Yeah. Which, had it been more more busy, there might have been there might have been some issues on spacing there. Because everybody was kind of huddled into the under the tents. Right. um Yeah, they had...
00:06:48
Speaker
they They catered ah Cracker Barrel breakfast, which is a pretty elite breakfast in the rankings of restaurant breakfasts. um ah As much as I love a good Waffle House breakfast, they had... the i near Cracker Barrel pancakes are some of the best pancakes ever.
00:07:08
Speaker
on the planet and i'm a pancake connoisseur and shout out daniel smith um daniel those pancakes are on par with with our with your pancake recipe um so i'm i'm pretty i'm i'm pretty impressed with the the breakfast situation morris hall and you know bacon and eggs and pancakes and the other thing that cracker barrel is a hundred thousand percent lead on is the hash brown casserole situation have you ever had a hash brown casserole at cracker barrel do you Every time I go, it's fantastic.
00:07:40
Speaker
Yeah. So amazing. Yeah. I, I, sunrise sampler is kind of my go-to. So that's usually you' like, you know, I guess you always get the business, but it's like, you know, meat of choice. So like bacon, eggs,
00:07:52
Speaker
That's like hash brown casserole and the apple casserole thing. The baked apples or whatever. apples Yeah. yeah Pro tip, if you're at Cockerbill and you get the the baked apples, off the rails.
00:08:08
Speaker
um I mean, I already reviewed the game. and So if you get the baked apples, I highly recommend getting some cornbread and breaking it all up and mixing it in with the with the apples with some butter. And you've got like an apple cobbler kind of situation going on there. That was ah my grandmother used to do that at Cracker Barrel every time. That was her that was her dessert.
00:08:33
Speaker
Okay. Okay. Got it. Although as we're talking about food, I do have to report that we did do Carol's Country Cupboard at my parents' house. um The way to get the grits, we have found out, is to have Kim go pick up breakfast when she wakes up because Kim is an early riser. So she went and got the biscuit sampler that we did last time. So the the chicken, egg and cheese, the bacon, egg and cheese, the tender one, egg and cheese.
00:08:59
Speaker
um And then Kim got her order and then some grits to split the grits. So what's Kim, what's Kim's order? Well, so you Kim is gluten free, so she can't do the biscuits. So she just got like, although actually I will say this when I got up, she'd already eaten. don't know, man.
00:09:20
Speaker
I believe she got what I ordered for her when I got it for her. Bacon's gluten free. Yeah, that's what she said. We got a side of bacon and a side of like scrambled eggs. That's what I had before. So she had that and then she had some of the grits too.
00:09:32
Speaker
So wait, or are grits gluten free? It's corn. Yes. Okay. Yeah. Cool. So yeah, so able able to experience that. And then, um, yeah, then we did the game.
00:09:46
Speaker
So game was, the game was good. Caroline, uh, Caroline hadn't been to a game for a year so. So I think she went a couple of years ago when I brought all the girls, it was just me and the girls.
00:09:59
Speaker
Um, but yeah, so we went and did the bookstore situation and we went down the dog walk And that's when I was messaging you yeah um about dog walk. um So that was fun for her. And actually the vantage point that i was probably like, i would, i would a hundred percent do that again. We watched from the tape deck.
00:10:22
Speaker
So we had like an elevated, but like super close to where everybody was coming in, like, You know, when you go when you go down Tate and you have the the Tate Center stairs where people walk watch from, I feel like it's a little offset from the the pomp and circumstance.
00:10:40
Speaker
This is like right on top of right on top of the of the redcoats. yeah So it was quite loud. I got a good video of it on on Instagram if you wanted to take a look at it. People apparently are are liking it a lot because I keep getting notifications.

Game Performance and SEC Scenarios

00:10:55
Speaker
um But... But yeah, we we were there. We walked through like yeah everybody kind of came through and um Kirby was there. i hollered out at Stacy Cereals, invited him to the Christmas party.
00:11:10
Speaker
Yeah. so So so we're good. We're good there. um Dude, we have some large have some large human beings on this team. don't say that much. they're at one point, when the the offensive I feel like it was the offensive line, on the offensive guys, Elias Williams. like oh my gosh.
00:11:29
Speaker
He is huge but skinny. like I feel like ah after a few years ah in the UGA strength and conditioning program, he'll hell he'll fill out quite a bit and and be even larger.
00:11:41
Speaker
Yeah. I'm pretty sure he's like Yeah. yeah Yeah, sorry. I did do the hands. Oh, speaking of
00:11:50
Speaker
this speaking of My sister and I were talking about this. you know like We're in the holiday season, so apparently like Home Alone is is dangerous territory for the 6-7 situation because they say six seven all the time. I've seen multiple like TikToks about that already.
00:12:07
Speaker
Okay, here's an actual game thing. kind of Both Elias Williams and Zachariah Branch did a 6-7 first down combo, like first down signal during the game. So that was something new that I hadn't seen. So they did like the hands and then pointed for first down.
00:12:23
Speaker
So I did not, I did not catch that. that's a new thing. Is that, do we have a gifable moment? Uh, you know what? I don't know. I've, I've seen branch. Um, we were, Lily, ah Lily went to the movies, uh, on, on Saturday. And so she didn't watch it live. She was, but we were like rewatching it on Sunday and watch it live. What kind of fan is she? Yeah, know what's going on here. um She didn't finish it.
00:12:51
Speaker
ah She didn't finish her rewatch, by the way. Oh, Lily. ah She was like, I can't get through this. like Nothing's happening. Oh my gosh. Lily, come on now.
00:13:05
Speaker
So yeah. i guess I guess it's a good thing that I was here for for the podcast because she wouldn't have been able to review That's right. She would not have been able to. She wouldn't have been able step in this week.
00:13:16
Speaker
There's a reason that she's second string. ah ah Too good. Too good. Okay. There was one other non-game thing that we said to Matt Key that we had mentioned this. The ambiance at Hug Dogs with all the fall leaves and the leaves falling was ah that was quite amazing.
00:13:36
Speaker
Yeah, the foliage over at Clark Howell is definitely interesting. we did discuss We did discuss that the leaves that were falling there were all yellow, though. So when when we have a Georgia Tech home game at Clark Howell, we're going to have to get the blow the backpack blowers out and and blow all the yellow away. Okay, okay yeah yeah, that that tracks.
00:14:00
Speaker
Happy birthday, Hug Dog, by the way. yeah. Seriously. Yeah. that That was fun. That was a good time. That was a good time. Enjoyed getting to to spend that day with a Hug Dog.
00:14:11
Speaker
Yes. okay um Okay, so for the game itself, I don't know. Seriously, there's not, I don't think, really much else to add to it. don't know. I guess the only thing would be like, you know, we punted on the first drive. I was like, what just happened? But then they kind of kicked it into gear and everything was fine minus the pick. And you're right. I did look that up. That was our last drive of the first half. So you had that correct in your memory.
00:14:37
Speaker
Yeah. It was kind of a boneheaded play, and I feel like that that's... It's kind of like it's kind of like when you're when you're playing baseball with your kid, sorry Carter, and you like strike him out on the on the last at bat and you're like, you can't go out like that.
00:14:54
Speaker
So then you got throw him a softball at the end. Okay. okay yeah yeah Yeah, I'm with you. I guess like I think like the bigger things, right I guess bigger, were just around watching cultural ball elsewhere on Saturday. So we did at least get some clarity on the SEC championship scenarios. So with the way everything played out, that whole like Georgia, Alabama, Ole Miss three-way tie thing is out the window now. Like Georgia can't get in the SEC championship with that three-way tie anymore. um
00:15:28
Speaker
I think it was mainly due to Vanderbilt beating Kentucky. um I'm sure there was something else, but with, with the results of of this week, that that's not possible anymore. So for us to go to Atlanta, we need either Bama to lose to Auburn or A&M to lose to Texas. And if, if either of those happen, we go to Atlanta. I know some people don't want to go to Atlanta, but I'm just, I'm just saying these are the scenarios.
00:15:51
Speaker
All right, going to go out on a limb and say that I have a feeling that there's a greater than 50% chance that one of those two hits. I know. I agree. I'm going to give you my rationale, Jim, because I believe that both of the teams that need to win are playing on the road, right?
00:16:11
Speaker
A&M's playing at Texas, Alabama's playing at Auburn, which we know that there's voodoo in Jordan here. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. So, yeah. so Plus you've also got the whole, like, is Kalen DeBoer going to Penn state situation going on?
00:16:29
Speaker
Sarkeesian, is Sarkeesian actually happy in Austin? Like there's so many things going on right now. Where will, where will Lane Kiffin go? Which that whole announcement, like we'll make an announcement on his decision after the egg bowl, like announcing that,
00:16:45
Speaker
already is that was wild absolutely wild in my opinion all Miss is handling this is is is putting on a clinic a case study and how to not handle and how to improperly handle a situation like this um I feel like it's just a situation where you just shut up like right first first rule of holes Yeah, like if that's what you were going to say, I don't know why they said that, that that they'll make an announcement.
00:17:14
Speaker
And it wasn't even like that he'll make a decision. It was there they will announce announced the decision. So don't know. That was kind of weird. Yeah, it's like when you're it's like when you're talking to your significant other and you're like, you you keep saying the wrong thing. And they're like, wait, what? What what what do you mean? What? yeah Why would you

College Games Recap

00:17:31
Speaker
do that? Did I read that right? like Are you sure? Yeah.
00:17:36
Speaker
yeah I mean, no. a So, yeah. and then um And then we wrapped up the evening with the Georgia Tech loss Pitt, which i I had a feeling that was coming.
00:17:50
Speaker
I felt like... And not that like what fans are talking about really matter, but... It seems that everyone had already moved on to Georgia and it was the the trash talk was already starting. was like, you guys have another game this week already, like to go to the ACC championship. So I don't think there, and I guess we can talk about this more when we preview that game, but.
00:18:11
Speaker
I think they're still alive for the ACC championship, but like some weird, crazy scenarios have to happen, whereas they would have clinched with a win over Pitt. But hey, shout out to Lamar. Lamar's a younger cousin, Lovelace. He was the ah the young man that had the 100-yard pick six. um I definitely was like announcing to everyone at the house, like, that's my friend's cousin!
00:18:32
Speaker
So, shout out Lamar. Yes. And he did it against the Bs, so... Yeah, that was wild. That was wild. i'll take I'll take that. I'll take that. um Yeah, that was that was pretty cool because we he's been hyping him up for a while now. So it was nice to see him get get some get something that that played out.
00:18:54
Speaker
Yeah, um yeah it was it was definitely a fairly pedestrian day of college football, I feel like. Yeah, I mean, there wasn't I really, i think that Pitt Tech game was probably the biggest game. I mean, and like Florida-Tennessee was not a great game.
00:19:13
Speaker
um I mean, Vanderbilt just and she just went wild on Kentucky. So, yeah, there there wasn't a ton. Um, which I guess on on that note, let's do, uh, coaches over unders, uh, update.
00:19:28
Speaker
So let's see. I still, um, maintain a very, a slight lead. So I went, um, four and three on the week. So do you, we we both went three, four and three. I am leading 44 41 overall. You're 41 and 44. we have little inverse going in there.
00:19:45
Speaker
And then and in the Pickham games, ah you had a perfect week in the Pickham games, JP. So you went, you went four and oh, the pickling games. Well done. I went three and one, uh, because for some reason I picked Florida to beat Tennessee. Oops. i don know why i did that. Um, should not have that. That was my other upset picks, my upset picks. And like I said, I'm in the morning. I was like, Florida is going to be Tennessee and pits to be tech. And then when pit be tech, I was like, I i said, it's going happen. And I was like, well, I also said Florida was going to be Tennessee. So not that good. Yeah.
00:20:17
Speaker
yeah dude i don't know i don't know the stock is the stock is not very good on on florida right now florida florida yeah so shout out coach joe bill thanks as always uh for doing those for us and was uh yes it was great to see you um got to hang out in the stadium a bit as well and then uh and oh oh that also reminds me we had to meet rambo rambo oh yes it is in his magical hat magical hat yeah that was pretty sweet it was like it was like meeting a it's like meeting a georgia a georgia cat in the hat yes yeah yeah i was like he's right there uh good stuff all right um i don't know what else you got and what what ah i guess what else are your thoughts either the atmosphere the game just the weekend at large
00:21:07
Speaker
I thought the atmosphere was

Game Day Atmosphere and Family Moments

00:21:08
Speaker
great. um So after the rain and like when it came time to like walk to the stadium and stuff, like it got hot. like It was. It's true. It was warm in the stadium. I was going back and look at some of the pictures and like I could see sweat glistening off my face, you know, like. Yeah, it was hot.
00:21:25
Speaker
i got i was It was warm. Breezeway for the wind. The swirling winds were around, so that bodes well for the breezeway watch. There was a there' was a cool little flyover that I got to see when we were there, the C-130. I actually got a pretty good video of that, by the way. I was able to like keep it in frame of my phone like the whole way over or whatever. It was pretty cool. yeah We'll have to compare notes.
00:21:49
Speaker
Were you in your seats for the like the actual senior? or you weren't in the seats Were you in place to see like the senior day run out, everybody come out? Because we missed it. We got in too late. I have these grand plans of being in our seats in time for that, and we messed that up. Okay.
00:22:05
Speaker
I did not. I did not. We got into the stadium. I think you guys were already in your seats. So yeah, we kind of got there just in time for Caroline to see like, it's time to attack the day kind of stuff.
00:22:18
Speaker
Right. And then I was in line getting, getting her a hot pretzel and I got a barbecue sandwich. It was pretty good. did not do I did not do the double Chick-fil-A, which you were asking me about, which in retrospect probably would have been a better call because I was burping out barbecue the rest of the day. yeah Okay.
00:22:40
Speaker
Good to know. Yeah. It tasted so good, but then, yeah. As stadium barbecue can sometimes do. Right, right, right.
00:22:52
Speaker
The only other atmosphere thing, like, i was interacting with Charlotte fans, like, trying to just, like, and make sure that... I mean, first of all, like, you're coming into a ah stadium like this and just seeing fans walking around, and there were fans, like, you know, in the stands, not in the parent section or in the, you know, in the...
00:23:09
Speaker
their ticket block, they were actually in our section. um And so like interacting with those guys was pretty nice. just, Hey, they're like, yeah, we know, we know what we're getting here. We're just trying to have fun. i was like, well, are we having fun? They're like, yes, we're having fun. like paul We're glad you're here. Yeah.
00:23:28
Speaker
yeah um that's I had a couple a couple of different interactions with the fans there. But yeah, other than that, man, the the game itself, like the actual atmosphere of the game itself was was great. I thought we were we were loud. I mean, we got over...
00:23:44
Speaker
we got over 110 decibels at one point, like during the second quarter kind of thing before everybody kind of bailed in the in the second half. But yeah, the game day atmosphere, I feel like was the integrity of it was was kept.
00:23:58
Speaker
um I know my daughter, my daughter had had so much fun, but her I think her highlights came. Later in the evening, when she had to hold Kelsey's baby, apparently she was talking about it afterwards. Her mom was like, apparently she really enjoyed holding the baby.
00:24:17
Speaker
i've got i've got ah I've got a picture of that. It's very cute. I also got a picture of it. um But yeah, it was it was great to see everybody. There were definitely some folks that were missed. Miss Terry, you were missed.
00:24:29
Speaker
Matt, if you're hearing this, make sure she knows she got a shout out on on the podcast. for hopefully Hope you're feeling better recovering from your surgeries. um But yeah, everybody that that was not there, you know you you were missed.
00:24:44
Speaker
And that's kind of what i I try to advise someone about that. Like, You only get so many of these games, like period. And you only get so many of them for sure in one season. So um if you have an opportunity to go, you can go. Just go. Like even if, you know, they're not going to have the TV at the tailgate or you don't have tickets, like just go.
00:25:05
Speaker
Just go. Yeah. Yeah. We, we had a blast. We, we had a lot of fun. um It was definitely like different for, for us being down there with no, no, were no kids in tow. So that was a different ah vibe for us, but yeah, we, we had a blast. We had a lot of fun. um i I will say that it did have a G day vibe to it.
00:25:30
Speaker
like The weather was very similar to G-Day. Sometimes G-Day can be very cool, and but hot in the stadium. so um The tailgate scene was all was relaxed and you know you got a nice nice weather. It's like the perfect perfect time to have a game. like Just like G-Day, in my opinion, is one of the most underrated home games of the stadium of the season. These kind of games are some of the most underrated as well because they're just so laid back. There's no stress.
00:25:58
Speaker
It's truly just about hanging out with your people, having a good time, and just enjoying the weather. Yeah, and and there were there were a lot of people that you know brought their brought their kids, is like their kids' first game, things like that. The the school put out a video of like highlights with like dads with the you know daughter on their shoulder, you know all that kind of stuff. um It's pretty cool. that You definitely definitely saw a lot of of that on Saturday for sure.
00:26:23
Speaker
Yeah, so to all the people out there that like to throw shade, can do my um in the SEC has schedules that are that are pretty intense.
00:26:35
Speaker
um I don't know how much longer we're going to have games like this. particularly late in the season with the way that college football is rolling these days. So it's it could we could look back on this this era of you know cupcake, quote-unquote, games, which you know and i'm I'm just like everybody else. I don't like seeing a ton of a ton of cupcakes, but you know we've we've had a pretty good run the last couple of years of of home game situations.
00:27:03

just with the way that the schedules have rolled out the way that the teams that we play have kind of performed so we've had a lot of hype hyped up games and so it's nice to just kind of relax a little bit and not only for the team to relax and you know get to see some players that we've never never get never get to see um but also just just time as fans to just kind of sit back and relax a little bit like i'm sure that zach and rodeo and DT and all those guys, you know, when they come into town and God bless Greg, you know, coming in from Charlotte, even he, like he, he, I'm sure he probably felt a little relaxed too. Cause he had the truck. It was low. It was packed to the gills and I would not want it to drive that truck, but he didn't have to bring the trailer or anything. So yeah. um
