00:00:57
Speaker
ah you know, when we're making these, it's really kind of a reassuring thing to get that feedback, to hear from people. 00:01:13
Speaker
Yeah, it is really awesome that people engage with us and and, you know, follow and like and, you know, repost everything you can. I really appreciate it. And like you said, I think things are starting to know come up a little bit. We're getting more engagement, which is nice. And, you know, if you're one of those people that's been following from behind the scenes, don't be afraid to to get involved. Throw us a like or a repost or something along those lines. It's not going to look great if my brother wins it. um But yeah, just just a little thank you to everybody, a little incentive, you know, to keep listening and all that good stuff. ah But once again, we really appreciate everybody listening ah week to week and and keeping this thing going. So without further ado, though, we'll get to what everybody comes to this podcast to listen to. And that's talking some football.

Chiefs vs Saints Game Analysis

00:03:17
Speaker
Patrick, last night the Chiefs go out and move to 5-0 with a 26-13 win over the New Orleans Saints. Patrick, what was your initial kind of thoughts on this game? Because to me this was kind of a a classic Chiefs coaching game where they really just outplanned the Saints by a mile.
00:03:38
Speaker
Yeah, the Chiefs have not, you know, really dominated any games up to this point in this season. And tonight, I mean, they just kind of handle business. This was just a normal Chiefs win that I've come to expect from this team this season. It's kind of what they're built upon.
00:03:53
Speaker
And I kind of wondered how the offense would look ah first game without Rashid Rice, and it's it's clear that Patrick Mahomes. It doesn't matter who's on the field for him because he will make anyone look good, including a bit of, ah you know, passes Prime Juju Smith Schuster, who came away with seven receptions for 130 yards and two just monstrous receptions down the field. Huge plays in the game. ah You know, we saw Travis Kelsey get involved at Kareem Hunt.
00:04:22
Speaker
off the practice squad. He's been signed for 20 days. he had a He had a great game. He had 27 rushing at times for 102 yards and a touchdown. And man, this this Chiefs team just find, they don't lose games. They just find ways to, you know, they had the one interception from my homes, but aside from that, the car and the Saints were making mistakes, Chiefs did not, and they just came away with a pretty, pretty easy win for them.
00:04:49
Speaker
Yeah, that was ah this was a Patrick Momes game for me. I think you're right on the money with that. Just another game where he proves that no matter what you throw at him on defense, he is still probably the best quarterback at reading defenses in the league. Whether you're throwing too high at him, he was handing off the ball.
00:05:05
Speaker
They knew exactly when to run it. They were slicing and dicing the the Saints up the field. And yeah, just another game where Patrick Mahomes proves that he's still the best quarterback in the NFL, despite the early interceptions, despite kind of you know not having a ton of talent around him on offense. Kareem Hunt, I think, had 30 yards on that first drive just by himself and punches in that touchdown. So they know exactly when to use their skill players.
00:05:32
Speaker
And just, you know, I wanted to say, you know, wow, what a great game from the OC here. I'm not giving Matt Nagy any credit for this. This is an Andy Reid master class again. Spagnolo looked great on defense. ah This Saints team looked feisty in the start of the game. Rashid Shahid is just good for like a 60 yard play every single game. I think he's becoming one of the best deep threats in the NFL. um But yeah, just not enough from the Saints who end up losing Derek Carr at the end of this one.
00:06:02
Speaker
Yeah, Shahid, it's either you know he's got two receptions for 120 yards and two touchdowns, or he just goes out there with with zeros across the stat sheet. There's there's no in-between for a a game breaker like that. And yeah, like you said, Derek Carr, dealing with some rib injuries there. It took a little hit late in the game trying to make a play, and you know it it just didn't really work out for him. You could tell it was the immediate pain, and it was just you know there's the I don't know how serious the injury is, but there really wasn't a point in leaving him in that game when you're down two scores. There was less than five minutes left in the game. And you just don't want you don't want to turn that into a more serious injury than it might already be. I knew this game was kind of over the second Derek Carr through that ah first drive interception, where it was just the second that ball left his hand, you knew that I had no chance of you know finding it finding a New Orleans Saints receivers hands. and it was
00:06:54
Speaker
You're just praying that that somehow gets out of bounds, somehow hits the turf, but you knew that was going to be a reception. Then, of course, the Chiefs intercept it. And then it was just basically smooth sailing ah from that point on. what What do you think about these? Just a little off topic, but same on topic. What do you think about those chief not the Chiefs helmets, the Saints helmets?
00:07:14
Speaker
I kind of like them. I it's a bit of a unique choice going with an all black helmet with all white uniforms. Like I know the Saints aren't going to do white helmets. Like that's just not really something I don't think in their bag. But I don't know. I i will say I love the little fleur de lis on on the helmet. I think it's at least like a team trying something which I can always appreciate.
00:07:37
Speaker
Yeah, I didn't hate them either. It just kind of it feels it just feels like it's hard for them to win in those helmets. You know, it's it's just the new teams with the new rules and the helmets. I think they're, you know, kind of going a little crazy with them, trying out some different things. Some things work better than others. ah But to me, it was just the Saints.
00:07:56
Speaker
They just look like they were playing a team that was much, much better than them throughout that entire game. And basically, I think they've just really come back to earth from that 2-0 start. No kidding. You look at the two defenses that they played, ah you know, the Panthers and then that Cowboys defense that was really struggling early in the season. And we're starting to see that that might have been a bit of a smokescreen. um I think that You know, Jake Caner comes into this game. We were having a discussion last night about who the worst backup quarterback in the league is. I didn't even know this guy's name before you have two Fresno State quarterbacks on one team. I don't know if that was a nepotism thing going on with Carr, ah but that was a tough spot for him last night. I felt for the guy had to step in with like zero time and a couple of bad passes. He actually did all right, though, like he he did better than I thought he would.
00:08:46
Speaker
Yeah, like his arm talent was not bad. I was like, OK, I see how this guy has caught the attention of some on NFL scout to get him on some sort of roster. Olave probably should have hauled in that one on the um fourth down that ended the game. That would have been a nice, you know, stat booster for him because he did finish ah two of seven for 17 yards. So it didn't look great if you didn't watch his little appearance. um You know, that's a game where you kind of hate that Taysom Hill was injured.
00:09:15
Speaker
Yeah to come in as like a backup quarterback and just running the the most chaotic offense of all time So we kind of we missed a some last night ah but yes this ah the Saints just struggled to really move the ball on offense and it it basically their only offense came from the Shaheed downfield throws. They kept trying to go downfield to Tipton who just can't really seem to make plays. I found he had the one that was like right over the shoulder later in the game. I think it was still one score game. So you make that play on fourth down too.
00:09:48
Speaker
Yeah, we're talking about covering spreads here, maybe winning games. It's a different conversation if he holds that in, which, you you know, talented NFL receivers do. um But yes, it just, you know, Camara probably is worst game of the season so far. He had 11 rushes for 26 yards, kind of got going in the receiving game like he usually does, but just just a lack loss of performance from the Saints on offense.
00:10:10
Speaker
Yeah, that's gonna that's gonna be one where they're kind of stacking losses now you lose that close one of the Falcons last week ah You lose to Casey this week, which I'm sure they didn't really have dialed up as a win on their schedule um But now they dropped a third in the NFC South like in a competitive competitive NFC South And then they don't really get a break because they have to play the Bucks next week in what will be another huge divisional game So you drop another divisional game there and you're looking kind of at a real uphill battle to even get in the playoffs this team. Yeah, we that's what I mentioned that that game against the Falcons that they just kind of found a way to lose. Yeah, that's that's going to be costly. And you know like you said, they're starting to stack up losses. I think that you i think they've kind of figured out this QBAC offense. You know, there's a lot of motion, not not a lot of um game tape on their offense in those first two games. and They really took advantage of that.
00:11:04
Speaker
But now I think teams have kind of picked up on how to stop it. And, uh, you know, maybe, maybe they got in touch with some CFL had coaches to see how he stopped at Corey mace. What's the deal here? Uh, but no, it was, uh, just a pretty smooth performance from chiefs. It's another thing. It always feels like Juwan Taylor is getting those ah offensive line balance for chiefs. It just feels like it's yeah always him, the right tackle, just either false start, a hold legal formation feels like it's just always him. And it's, it's a Taylor problem at this point.
00:11:33
Speaker
Yeah I tend to agree and that's ah on such a talented offensive line too like you you notice like Creed Humphrey never makes mistakes like there's certain guys on that team who just don't make the mistake which I think you know kind of amplifies the guys that do they kind of really stand out in that offense and on defense. um There was one great ball don't lie penalty here like they didn't call that initial pass interference on Worthy on like that 70 yard bomb by Mahomes, which i I really didn't think was a pass interference. So I thought that was a good no call. And then the second one, they get a 46 yard pass interference on Adebo who gets called again, Worthy just kind of fell into him while they were both running the same way.
00:12:14
Speaker
They give that one and then the Chiefs missed the field or the Chiefs missed the field goal on the first one. And then the second one, we get the big man return and an interception ah from the homes in the red zone. So that was just a great ball, don't lie moment. Like they they didn't deserve to be up in the red zone and and it showed. Yeah, I'm going to steal a joke here. Can't can't claim this one, but Bucker was just a little too far right.

Jets' Coaching Changes and Implications

00:12:37
Speaker
imagine and that does it for our sates geez recap uh we will move now to some breaking news because this morning just minutes i would say before we started this recording the jets have fired head coach robert sala you're fired get out of here you're fired get out And DC Jeff Ulbrich will be taking over as interim head coach. This was not on our bingo card, Patrick. I cannot believe that Robert Sala is the first coach in the NFL to be fired this year. The Jets don't fire coaches in the middle of the season. um What do you think was the last straw in this firing?
00:13:23
Speaker
aaron rogers i don't think this this has to i do with one person and one person only and i think ah the jets as a organization had to make a decision between robertula or forty year old aaron rogerds and for some reason they just they're They're committed to a guy who's on his last year of his contract, who's 40 years old, and his best days are behind them, and he they just feel like he can still get them to the Promised Land, but I just don't see... how you're just you know making all these crucial decisions ah to your organization based off this one guy who just he hasn't really been performing up to the level that people have expected. and it's you know You go from ah one defensive-minded head coach to another defensive-minded head coach in in allre and all
00:14:14
Speaker
I just don't understand how they think this is going to change. You still have Hackett calling the plays. And I guess maybe if Rogers comes into the facility with a better peace of mind, maybe your team will perform better. But I think this was a direct result of Aaron Rodgers not being happy with Mr. Salah.
00:14:34
Speaker
And it's kind of crazy because if, you know, if we were to dive right now into that Vikings Jets game, the Vikings win 23 to 17. If you had to say what went wrong in London for the Jets, it was Aaron Rodgers. He had three interceptions, two first quarter interceptions, which he has never done in his entire NFL career.
00:14:54
Speaker
and then ends the game with a bad back shoulder throw to Mike Williams and Stefan Gilmour is able to get an interception and just kind of ice this one. yeah He threw a 63 yard pick six to Andrew Van Genkel. If you were to pick what went wrong in this game, it wasn't coaching. like It was Aaron Rodgers.
00:15:13
Speaker
It was Aaron Rodgers and a lack of run game and it's it's basically been the same story for the Jets the past three games or so. It's just Bryce Hall can't get going. So Aaron Rodgers has to throw it way more than than he should be in this game. He had.
00:15:28
Speaker
54 passing attempts. he I thought there was maybe something between him and Wilson and he was really favoring Lazard, but he was force-feeding the ball to Garrett Wilson in this game, targeted him 22 times, ah came away with 13 catches, 101 yards touchdown. so like that they had That was basically the only bright spot of this offense. They finally had Garrett Wilson going.
00:15:51
Speaker
But it wasn't in an efficient ma manner is you target 22 times your force on the ball and i just don't like what i'm seeing from the jets at all i don't think this is gonna help i think this is gonna add fuel to the fire because when they come out on monday night against the bills next week. And the same thing happens.
00:16:11
Speaker
Who like ne ah when is it? Yeah, exactly. And, you know, Rogers is his due for his McAfee spot on a Tuesday morning today as we record. So it's just this is going to continue to turn into more of a storm as the season goes on, unless maybe I'm wrong. Maybe this is somehow the the fix for the Jets. And you're going to see Rogers come out ah and have a nice offensive game. Breece Hall is going to go for 80 yards and and two touchdowns. and And they take down the bills and and they're leading the AFC East after Monday night. But I don't see that happening based off this change.
00:16:44
Speaker
Yeah, huge, huge game on Monday night. ah The Jets are two and three. They're second in the AFC East. If they beat the Bills, they would be first in the division, ah which is kind of crazy to say. Maybe this is the spark. You know, maybe this is something that kind of rallies the locker room around a coach that apparently they all really like in Albrick. But man, it is just a razor's edge here with the Jets because you're right. If if things go wrong, there's nobody to point the finger to.
00:17:11
Speaker
but your franchise quarterback who you have seemingly you know went along with every single decision that he wanted solid finishes his four year tenure going four and thirteen in the first season back to back seven and ten seasons and then a two and three season so people love to say you know if you don't win like if you're.
00:17:28
Speaker
down in your winning percentage that just doesn't cut it as an NFL head coach. But again, you have multiple Zach Wilson years. I think getting seven wins with Zach Wilson was even impressive to begin with. People are pointing to the amount of sheer amount of penalties this team has. But again, I don't really think those are valid enough reasons to fire the head coach. It was funny, in the AP story from this Vikings game,
00:17:52
Speaker
They said the Jets offense struggled so much last week in a 10-9 loss to Denver that Rodgers and Coach Salah spent much of this past week saying that their relationship is solid. So that maybe should have been the first the first inkling that something was going to go wrong when you have to really project that you have a great relationship. Maybe it's not so great. um But let's move to the Vikings here. Let's not do all Jets. ah The Vikings move to 5-0.
00:18:19
Speaker
them in the Chiefs again, the last two undefeated teams in the league. Another sloppy second half from the Vikings, I would say like in that Packers game, let the Packers all the way back in that game from a bad second half, another bad second half in this game. And Darnold finally has

Vikings' Undefeated Streak and Concerns

00:18:36
Speaker
the stinker. He goes 14 of 31 for 179 yards with an interception and a fumble. I think everybody was waiting for that game. And that'll probably that'll probably take a ah little MVP hit for Darnold.
00:18:48
Speaker
Big time, maybe maybe a good time to hop back on the Vikings in Darnold MVP boat. um But overall, I'm not going to take too much away from the Vikings in this game. You're right. like if that If that second half continues to become a trend, then then you're right. I will start asking some questions about them because the last time this team was 5-0 was 2016, and they finished 8-8 and eight missed the playoffs, Damien.
00:19:13
Speaker
Yeah, I don't want to say that that's going to happen with this team. But if they keep, you know, falling asleep at the wheel in the second half, thinking the game's in the bag at halftime, you will start to lose games because the NFL and we all know witching hours, it it always feels like it comes down to the last.
00:19:29
Speaker
two, three drives of the game that determine the result. ah But it's a good way. The Vikings found a way to win a game and when they weren't perfect. They only had one offensive touchdown. You mentioned the pick six and some special teams play is just it was enough. Right. And then the huge interception to end the game when it looked like the drip the Jets were driving down to score the game winning touchdown like they just made plays when they had to. It was far from perfect. But I mean, don't apologize for being five and oh.
00:19:58
Speaker
Yeah, that's what I had write written down is that the Vikings are kind of built to win games in different ways. We've seen that through these first five games. They're really good at just finding a way. Doesn't matter as long as you come out with a win. I think they get the bye week at a great time here. Aaron Jones went out with an injury in this one. ah You get a week to rest up and then a big, big divisional game against the Lions on Monday night when they come back. I think that is going to be a big prove it game.
00:20:24
Speaker
Sucks for the Vikings to say in their fans But this is a team that's gonna have to continually prove it kind of like every week teams are waiting for that like real letdown from the Vikings But you know, they go out and beat the Lions that is like the ultimate prove it game you win a huge divisional game you then move to 2 and 0 in the division and you kind of have a the division by the horns moving forward. So I think looking forward to the Vikings, they can get healthy in this week. And I think, you know, until they they falter, you got to treat them as one of the best teams in the NFL. Yeah, I'm with you on on that. I have them as a playoff team. And then like you said, if they if they beat the Lions,
00:21:01
Speaker
Then their top three for sure. Top five team for me. And then it's just all respect goes to, you know, Darnold Jefferson already has all the respect in the world for me. You know, Harrison Smith still somehow playing at ah at a high level. And a lot of people talk about the Jags being the London team. Maybe the Vikings should be the London team because they're now 4-0 in international games that they've played in. So a lot of Vikings jerseys in that crowd, too, like a lot of them.
00:21:27
Speaker
They got a nice fan base going over there, grassroots, grassroots from the Vikings over in London. And what a, what a game from Andrew Van Genkel. Just last thing, like the dolphins, you you know, penny pinch and don't sign Andrew Van Genkel. They then signed Shaq Barrett for $2 million dollars more than what Van Genkel ends up getting paid with the Vikings who retires before the season begins. So just like an ultimate, you know, Chris Greer disaster class, but It just sucks seeing Van Gogh be so good on a team right now that the Dolphins could really use a guy like that on defense. Just sucks.
00:22:00
Speaker
Yeah, that that hurts, man. It's just it's what you find on defense to like sometimes offense, you know, receivers kind of turn over a lot more running backs, especially turnover. But when you find like a staple linebacker, those are really hard to come by in the NFL. No kidding. um But we'll move back to Sunday night. The big bad rain delay over an hour and 20 minutes a game didn't start until 945.

Cowboys vs Steelers Recap

00:22:24
Speaker
Tariko and Collinsworth mentioned that they were staying up past their bedtime maybe 40 times throughout this broadcast.
00:22:30
Speaker
A late one for both Cowboys and Steelers fans. Cowboys come away with a close 20 to 17 victory. Patrick, was this the most Steelers game ever?
00:22:41
Speaker
No, because they lost it if they want it. If they want it in the fashion that they did, that would have been the most Steelers game of all time. ah Just yet you had two interceptions, one of which was maybe the worst throw decks ever thrown. And then you had the blocked field goal. You had the T.J. Watch strip sack. And then you had the force fumble on the second down and goal play that, you know, if you recover it right there, that's the game. Dak made a hell of a play getting on that ball because They were coming in hot. they They wanted that ball and unfortunately they weren't able to get it. And then, uh, it came down to the last play of the game. Fourth and goal from around the five, six yard line, somewhere around there. And, uh, of course it was Tolbert Jalen Tolbert stepped up big time in this game. And, uh, yeah, Dak, Dak was far from perfect in this game, but to me, it was just like when it mattered the most.
00:23:34
Speaker
he he just made the one play. And that's all he had to do, really. They were kind of going up and down the field for most of the game. But then the Steelers would just always make that huge play when they needed it to and just kind of flip the game on its head. um Unfortunately, they couldn't get those turnovers, you know, maybe in the Reds in their red zone so they could have some shorter drives or free free field goals. They had to kind of go a long way after the turnovers. um But yeah, when you win the turnover, battle three and oh, and you lose the game, that's always that's always a tough spot to be in.
00:24:03
Speaker
Yeah, no kidding in our week five picks when I took the Cowboys plus two and a half I said this is a field goal game if things go wrong for the Cowboys and that was kind of what happened right like it This was a game that the Cowboys could have dominated, really put up a ton of points on the board, but they were just, just a little bit short. They were making the mistakes. I just, I'm not exactly sure who the Cowboys are. Like I don't think they have a great identity right now. Granted. You don't have Mika Parsons. You don't have Marcus Lawrence, Brandon cooks. They had depth guys step up like Tolbert, like Rico Daddle, who's not even a depth guy anymore. He's just the starting running back. Um, but yeah, just a bit.
00:24:41
Speaker
bit confusing like they stopped Pittsburgh's offense very well and yet still they only win this game by a field goal. I just left this game I think with more questions about the Cowboys than I did about the Steelers.
00:24:53
Speaker
I Took him down. Doubt a lot of great game. Ferguson came through a lot on third down plays. And it was just, it felt like the Steelers are doing everything right on the defense side of the ball and like Dak and CD lamb are kind of going at each other a bit on the sideline. So it's reading time. Yeah. I was thinking, these are good things. These are good things. The CD lamb blow up. Uh, but no, I just don't know what the Cowboys are.
00:25:35
Speaker
But it was a huge win for them, because if you if they lose this game, then it's a lot of questions are coming into play. Dak got his contract. CD Lamb got his contract. They're not winning games, especially in a game where you dominated and you still found a way to lose ah based on turnovers. That would have been bad news for the Cowboys. So.
00:25:53
Speaker
they They survive another week of the negative ah media attention that they they stay alive in this division where they're just kind of waiting for the commanders to maybe come back to earth a bit and just kind of keep their head above water for now. But ah the the Cowboys were able to come away with.
00:26:09
Speaker
ah We'll call it a gritty win. Well, and that's what that's what I'll i'll call it a a gritty win from the Cowboys Yeah, they they go at or they have the Lions at home next week We've seen how bad Dallas has been at home So again like the Vikings the Lions that is a big big prove it game for the Cowboys got to prove you can win at home They're fit. They're three and a half point dogs I think that has to be a field goal game to kind of keep the the question silent like we mentioned I'm shifting on to Pittsburgh here, got the full Justin Fields experience in this game, 15 for 27, 132, two TDs, 27 rush yards. The leading receiver for the Steelers in this game was Najee Harris with 35 yards on two receptions. He was also the leading rusher with only 42 yards on 14 carries. They weren't rushing the ball well. George Pickens is kind of acting out. Patrick, what is the solution for Pittsburgh's offense?
00:27:05
Speaker
they need another weapon uh van jefferson is their number two which is comical really i fryer muth is the number two receiver i guess but he's a tight end and he blocks well so it's like this guy is he's doing a lot when he's catching the bullets you you don't always expect that from him uh but yeah van jefferson is just not a number two option uh roman wilson's been injured the entire season, and we're just kind of waiting for him to appear and see what he can do, because he's a physical wide receiver that I think can help a lot in the run game along with the pass catching game. But it's George Pickens really has to you know put his pride aside. I know he's a he's a character, and he he's got he eases his own person, and he he really shows all of his emotions on the field. We really saw it at the end of the game with that face mask. um But yeah, man, when George Pickens decides to throw his tantrums,
00:27:58
Speaker
Pittsburgh almost always loses that game and there's plays where he could've been open downfield but he just decided to go for a jog instead of, you know, busting his ass to the sideline. It just wasn't good ah from from the offense. It's not good enough. The offensive line wasn't really blocking that well.
00:28:15
Speaker
The only good thing, I guess you could say, to come away with this and why I believe Justin Fields will still be starting next week. That was my next question. Yeah, they they didn't turn the ball over and they had the one fumble, but I mean, the guy was on fields in about a half second, busting right through the the middle of the offensive line. So I don't you know blame that too much on him. And, you know, he worked hard to get that ball back.
00:28:37
Speaker
Uh, but I, Russ behind that offensive line right now that has two rookies and two injuries, uh, on it right now. He just can't move, man. I saw it in the preseason and I know he's an app more accurate passer than Justin Fields, but he's not mobile. And I don't necessarily think he gives you a better chance to win. If, if the Steelers keep losing with fields, sure. I got no problem to just see what Russell Wilson has to offer.
00:29:05
Speaker
But I'm not not clamoring to see Russell Wilson even after a bit of a this was the worst performance from the Steelers on all offense this year. So yeah, definitely. um Yeah, I saw somebody point out, you know, Martevis Bryant traded for behavioral issues. Antonio Brown eventually traded for behavioral. Chase Claypool traded for. yeah Deontay Johnson traded for behavioral issues. Are are the Steelers just addicted to like drafting very questionable guys off field? Mike Tomlin's the biggest I can fix him guy of all time. And for the most part, he does pretty well like if when Antonio Brown was with the Steelers.
00:29:43
Speaker
It was solid for a long time. And then, yeah, at the end, things got a little wrong. Livion Bell had that holdout. Yes. Rotavius Bryant was more, you know, off the field, yeah getting in trouble. So we'll we'll put that one past him. But yeah, the Steelers and Tomlin are always like, we can fix this guy. We can work with them.
00:30:02
Speaker
I don't know, man, this it's it's a cycle with George. he He has these games one to sometimes three times a year. um But I have a good feeling that next game, it's we're going to get a George Pickens great offensive game. Yeah, I wouldn't be surprised even in the bit, ah even in the slightest there if that happened. um One, one last thing. T.J. Watt is a rock star dude. Like he had eight solo tackles in this game, one and a half sacks, which, you know, probably should have been more if you were watching it.
00:30:30
Speaker
3 QB hits and he reaches 100 career sacks in 109 games making the All-Pro the second fastest player to reach that plateau in NFL history just dominant as ever in this game.
00:30:46
Speaker
Yeah, it's beautiful to see. It's ah it is because, you know, yeah it's also national television. People can see how often he gets chipped and, you know, double team, whatever. But, you know, he just finds ways to produce. And it's always in like the key moments. ah We saw that with the with this force fumble and just making tackles as as ah as an edge rusher. First play of the game, he dropped into coverage, man on man against CD lamb.
00:31:11
Speaker
ah You don't see that from many edge rushers um and shout out to Reggie White because he was the quickest. That's a guy, man. when You look at those numbers here. How is this guy not more famous? Because it feels like he gets no credit and he's got some of the most insane defensive numbers I've ever seen. Yeah, really, really impressive game from Watt. But you're right. Like White definitely deserves a little bit more shine. um We'll move off of that game and into the four p.m. games.
00:31:37
Speaker
where Patrick I have to issue an apology off the top of the show here.

Giants vs Seahawks Victory

00:31:42
Speaker
Last week I said that the Seahawks essentially had a bye week with the Giants on their schedule. I received some flack for it throughout the week and the lie detector test proved that was a lie. Gutsy win from the Giants. They beat the Seahawks 29 to 20. Often Isaiah Simmons field goal block return for a touchdown.
00:32:03
Speaker
as the Seahawks were trying to even the game right at the end or i actually no win the game right at the end, right? Like they went for the two point after. Um, he jumps the gap just absolutely, you know, the other guy absolutely destroys the kicker just because he can, which is awesome. But yeah, I want to issue an apology to giants fans. I was wrong there. And this team is feisty, man. Like they, we have seen enough from the giants now where, you know, you thought the start of the season was going to be like the Browns or like the Jaguars and really, really a blown up season, but they are proving, and I think Brian Dable is proving that they, they have some juice in them.
00:32:40
Speaker
Yeah, and they did it without their number one receiver and they're starting running back. And they could do whatever they wanted on offense, man. They had 37 minutes of possession. And you know they they only have 29 points on the on the scoreboard here. But first drive of the game for them, they went all the way down the field and then a ah basically a 100-yard fumble return by the Seahawks to just stay alive in this game. Like, where would they be without that play? That's a 14-point swing.
00:33:08
Speaker
And man, the Giants, I'm, I'm very impressed. Very impressed what I saw from the Giants. Daniel Jones feels like he always has these spots at some points in the season where people start to put a little more respect on his name and they go, okay, now I see why, you know, they took you where they did and why you got this contract. Cause he does show signs of having real arm talent. He, his body, he's he's got like the size and just everything. And he moves sneaky, like he's okay. He moves with his legs.
00:33:37
Speaker
ah But Tyrone Tracy had a huge game 129 yards on the ground opened up things for the offense on for Daniel Jones and the Giants but very impressed are we Concerned about the Seahawks defense. Yeah, like I i had written written down if the Detroit game was a positive loss this was quite a negative loss like this is was a game where you're really starting to see that teams can kind of do whatever they want on ah offense against the Seahawks. Like you are going to be in shootouts every week, it seems, with this team. And again, Geno Smith throws the ball 40 times, right? Like if that is not really a winning recipe. They rushed the ball for only 72 yards. I know they're a team that uses a lot of screen passes, so a lot of those running numbers kind of get
00:34:26
Speaker
A bit skewed because Charbonnet and Walker end up having, you know, 40 or 50 receiving yards as well. But that's not the winning recipe for this Seahawks team. Gino throwing the ball that much isn't going to work. He was sacked seven times, including three from Dexter Lawrence himself, who again, I think is the most underrated defensive player in the league so far um in his career. But sloppy penalties, bad tackling.
00:34:52
Speaker
Poor protection of Smith on offense and then just way way too porous on defense and they have no time to breathe Patrick. They have a short week from Monday on that Lions game to this Sunday. They go back to back losses and now another short week going up against the 49ers on Thursday.
00:35:10
Speaker
Yeah, another team that can put up points and probably will, because the Seattle Seahawks have given up 20 points or more in every game this season, except against your your dolphins with Skyler Thompson. So you know we'll we'll chalk that one up as a as an as a outlier in comparison to the others. But ah yeah, when Walker and Charbonnet are both under 20 yards, and Geno Smith is your leading rusher by about 40 or 50 yards,
00:35:38
Speaker
something went wrong there. I think the Seahawks had, they're one of those teams similar to the Steelers where they took advantage of an easy schedule to start the year, got out 3-0, but now you're starting to mix it up with some of the bigger boys and and these teams that you know it's they're going to score points and you got to find ways to stop them, control the ball,
00:36:00
Speaker
And they didn't come close to that in this game. It was just the Giants possessed it for basically the entire game. And man, that just the Seahawks ah appear to be struggling right now and they really got to figure it out quick. It's like you said, a short week go play in San Fran and a visual game when you've lost two in a row. It's ah things can get away from you quickly in the NFL.
00:36:22
Speaker
Yeah, especially with a banged up team like the Seahawks do or like the Seahawks have. They also go 49ers Falcons bills in the next three. Like that is three offenses who can absolutely slice you up. If they went all in three, I would not be surprised.
00:36:39
Speaker
And then there's all sorts of questions about this Seahawks team. So I think they were one of those teams who, like you said, really benefited from an easy schedule to start the season, in which you're not going to apologize for wins. But if I was a Seahawks fan, I would starting, I would be starting to get pretty worried here.
00:36:56
Speaker
Yeah, man, that like this is the classic Gino game, we just getting sacked seven times, just standing in that pocket, waiting to get hit, you know not really getting through his reads, can't make a decision. like This is what happens when Gino plays a real defense. that The stats are inflated. They look fine, like 284 yards touchdown, somehow 72 rushing yards for Gino. That's an insane number.
00:37:19
Speaker
But yeah, I don't feel good about where the Seahawks are. now And it like thank goodness they went 3-0 in their first three games because that's a tough schedule they got coming up. But the good thing for them is this division is feels wide open, especially if you can find a way to beat the 49ers on Thursday night. Yeah, you're you're not in a bad spot yet. You're far from the panic button, but something's just got to change, especially on the defensive side of the ball. Definitely true. um We will move to the Packers taking down the Rams 24

Packers vs Rams Defensive Highlights

00:37:53
Speaker
to 19. This is a bit of a weird game. um I want to start with x Xavier McKinney, because this is a guy who I've mentioned now a few weeks in a row here, five games
00:38:02
Speaker
five interceptions as he grabs another one in this one he also recovered a fumble in this one he is the first player since the 1970 merger with an interception in each of his first five games with his with a team this packers defense might not be as good as i thought they were i was really praising them the last few weeks but mckinney is the real deal and he's leading from the front here you can't even get defensive player of the year odds on him which i was like
00:38:47
Speaker
Hutch, Hutchinson and watt are the two big leaders in the clubhouse right now in terms of betting odds. But yeah, I mean, if, if McKinney keeps, you know, getting an interception a week or, you know, a force fumble and just continues to make plays and the Packers continue to win games, I don't mind that price because teams are going to continue to chip watt. And if watt doesn't put out those sack numbers,
00:39:10
Speaker
they They'll have no problem not giving him the award. Hutchinson got off to a bit of a inflated start. I think he had what, four or five sacks like in one game. So we'll see how that carries throughout an entire season. But you got to love what you've seen from your boy, Damian, Xavier McKinney and the Packers. And congrats to Jordan Love getting his first W of the season.
00:39:31
Speaker
weird game from him because even he showed signs of like, yes, OK, this is for sure a a player deserving of the contract he got. Packers are in good hands with Jordan Lovett quarterback. Finish the game 15 of 26, 224 yards, two touchdowns and one of the worst. I mentioned Dak Prescott having a bad interception. This takes the cake for the worst interception of the week.
00:39:55
Speaker
almost turned it into a safety from running back into his end zone. Then as he's getting pressured and about to take a safety, he goes, you know, I'm i'm throwing this ball and he throws it sidearm falling down ah to to just a Rams defender with no Packers receiver in sight for a quick pick six. And I just don't know. Because if you make plays like that, you're going to lose your team games. Yeah, it was so weird because He led the Packers to points on three straight drives after that pick six. Like he clearly has that that gut instinct or that ability to kind of shake it off and keep going and keep making plays.
00:40:34
Speaker
But man, just take the safety at that point or or really hug something on that ball and get it out of bounds and take, you know, a half a distance to the goal line penalty on an intentional grounding. That was the play where you're like, all right, this guy is very clearly still young in his NFL career. His decision making is kind of lapsed over the past two weeks and really showing that, you know, he needs to warm into games after this injury. He had a terrible first half against the Vikings. And again, not a good first half in this game, but Manages to finish it the second half in both of those games pretty well He had that bomb to Jaden Reed like it's just Jekyll and Hyde with him right now He he has a great play followed by a bad play followed by a great play Hopefully that's just coming back from the injuries if you're a Packers fan, that's what you're kind of buying in this one um But yeah, I really don't know what to make of Jordan love so far this season. It's it's hard to tell and
00:41:29
Speaker
Yeah, he he needs to find consistency. um I think he's really got to build a relationship with Jaden Reid. It appears he's for sure the number one. But then you know Tucker Crafts got the two touchdowns and and like Dontavian Wicks had the most targets in this game. it it was The Packers offense is good and it's it can be explosive.
00:41:51
Speaker
It just almost feels like you have too many options and then you got Romeo Dobbs kind of throwing fits now. He was suspended in this game because he he's not happy with the role. ah He's had the season with the team, didn't show up to practice on Friday, and they basic they just suspended him for this game. So that's you know a situation to keep your eye on. Might be a trade candidate for ah some contenders who need some receiver depth. But in terms of teams that i things that I don't know what to make of, the LA Rams are just an anomaly to me in this NFL because
00:42:24
Speaker
We know they're banged up, you know, Nakua Cup, their two best receivers are are out and, you know, they'll eventually find their way back. They've had a really tough schedule to start the year. Arizona, Detroit, San Fran, the Bears and the Packers. i they They're one in four and it just doesn't feel good, but I don't think they're a bad team. it's it's They're weird.
00:42:44
Speaker
Yeah, I had Rams struggling to find identity. They're off to their worst start since moving to L.A. in 2016, one in four, three out of their four losses have come down to one possession game. So like it's it is a weird one where it's like this team is not as bad as a one in four record really shows, but they're clearly missing that like extra gear to be able to kind of turn the game on its head and win a game, win a close game, whether that's missing the Kuen Cup I'm sure that's taking a pretty big toll on how to game plan against them like not having the game plan against two of the best receivers in the NFL has to be like a defensive coordinator's absolute dream going up against the Rams.
00:43:26
Speaker
Um, but the only consistent thing about this team has been Karen Williams. He had 102 yards rushing. He scored for the eighth straight game. So it's like, he is what this team is about. And like I said last week, this team clearly needs to change their identity on offense, at least while those guys are out to really be a run first team and a run focused team. Like that is how you are going to win games. If you're the Rams is keeping the ball on the ground. Um,
00:43:54
Speaker
it still wasn't enough for me. like they They gave the ball to Williams 22 times and it could have been 40. You know what I mean? like When you're making Matthew Stafford throw the ball 45 times, similar to Geno Smith, it's just not going to be a winning recipe anymore.
00:44:07
Speaker
No, and you know maybe it doesn't have to be all Kyron with the bullets. You can find ways. We've seen you know CD Lamb get involved in the run game with the Cowboys. You see Diggs and Tank Dell in Houston. They're kind of in the run game, Deebo Samuel. like These are all receivers that are you know kind of running backs, in a sense. And they can use that. So you know you got 2-2 out. Well, you got some speed still in that receiver room that you can come up with creative plays. Blake Corum's a solid backup option. we've barely seen him in the, nobody and really knows what he is yet. But I mean, that's a physical runner that can possibly wear down a defense. If you give them 10 plus carries a game, you you just don't know until you, uh, until you try it. This is another team. Uh, last week we mentioned the Eagles, the bi-week kinda came at a perfect time.
00:44:54
Speaker
Rams on a buy next week Stafford kind of got banged up at the end of that game, too So, you know just an extra week without playing a game um but without your two best receivers and a banged-up quarterback is is is that Put the Rams at two and four after this week because this this is a win with their bye week Yeah, I like that I think again perfect team who kind of gets a chance to catch their breath more than anything in this season and ah We will stay in the NFC though for a shocking win here the Cardinals 24 49ers 23 San Francisco drops to third in the division with another tough loss While Arizona has another one of their Jekyll and Hyde games on offense It's the second time I've said that this episode but this is a good one here from the Cardinals and kind of that Kyler Murray game that we were kind of expecting or waiting for here in this offense and He starts the game with a 50 yard touchdown on the ground.

Cardinals' Comeback Against 49ers

00:45:52
Speaker
He threw up the deuces at the 40 and then like with guys all around him, it was the craziest thing I've ever seen. um Also, Tom Brady on the call was just making all sorts of crazy noises that he's still figuring it out. But 195 yards in a TD added 82 yards rushing. James Connor gets 86 yards, a big two point conversion late in this one. Marvin Harrison Jr makes a huge fourth down catch.
00:46:18
Speaker
Like this was the game where the Cardinals on ah offense, this is what they can be. Yeah. And it wasn't all through Marvin Harrison Jr., which we've seen the past two weeks and they haven't come away with wins. They were able to spread the ball around. We saw Trey McBride come back in this ah offense. That clearly helped a lot. Michael Wilson finally back to, you know, just being a solid second option as a receiver.
00:46:41
Speaker
And they were just moving the ball. they The first half wasn't too pretty, but you got to give credit to Jonathan Gannon, who's really trying to you know create a culture in Arizona of just a team that's you know going to continue to fight score points in games because they were down 23-10 at half and won this game 24-23. So they had 14 unanswered in the second half, shut out the 49ers. Tough thing to do an entire half of football.
00:47:06
Speaker
And you know, here they are two and O in the division, two and three on the year. Like they've haven't had a perfect start to the season, far from, but I would argue that they've won the two most important games that they've had up to this point in the year. And these are the wins that age really well as the season goes on. And I'm just, I'm excited because the, it would have been so easy for this Cardinals team at one and three down, you know, 13 and a half to The fort, the big bad 49ers to just roll over and quit and you don't credit them. They just found a way to come back in this game, shut them down. They had a bunch of defensive plays and yeah, I'm just very impressed with what I saw out of the Cardinals in the second half. And you know, who knows? Maybe this is a, an opportunity for them to get hot, uh, going forward. Yeah. They, I think this is a team that could get hot at the right time here. You're right. Those wins age very well.
00:48:01
Speaker
As long as they keep winning divisional games, like you said, they will be in contention for this division. It's really up in the air right now. It's kind of anybody's to win. ah And yeah, like what I saw from the Cardinals on the opposite side, what is up with San Francisco, man? Like you get Deebo back. IU looked great. He clearly listened to the goal post last week. ah He had eight receptions, 147 yards. Bosa has an interception and looked dominant and yet still a loss.
00:48:30
Speaker
This is the second time this season they've blown a double digit lead in the fourth quarter to a divisional rival and that is the opposite of what you said. Those losses age terribly and they lost just one divisional game in the past two seasons winning NFC West titles. Like this was a team that did not lose in the division and this was the sixth blown lead loss under Shanahan.
00:48:58
Speaker
They only scored one TD on six drives that reached the red zone here. You get a Brock Purdy interception. He had a 62 passer rating, a Jordan Mason fumble. this they They're just losing games in different ways every week, it seems like.
00:49:14
Speaker
Yeah and you know that the one touchdown on six red zone trips is definitely a a stat that sticks out in this game. It just feels like you know a lot of people thought that with the Shanahan offense you could kind you could have a system running back in a way and you know he's still gonna get his yards he's still gonna get his touches but the issue is without a McCaffrey You got to rely on on your quarterback a lot more to make plays because Jordan Mason, not a bad running back. Probably one of the best backup options in the NFL is non-existent in the passing game. yeah Whereas McCaffrey is basically just another receiver out there for you, giving you checkdowns, giving you plays run. He's got like a full route tree that he runs. Mason doesn't have that. And you know, you're asking party to do a lot more 19 to 35 in this game. Like you said, he had the two interceptions.
00:50:07
Speaker
it It just wasn't good. you really just He has to do more and he doesn't he doesn't you know he doesn't perform at that level. He needs the players around him to be great. and you know It was just Ayuk today that was really great. and Mason wasn't bad, but like I said, he's just not as dynamic as McCaffrey. When Purdy had to make plays, he just couldn't do it.
00:50:27
Speaker
Yeah, it's the prices have gone down on party. That was a big thing in our NFL preview, like pretty coming up on a contract extension. If he goes out and like is a candidate for MVP again, that price is just going to be incredible. Like 49ers brass is probably licking their lips a bit on, on maybe getting a discount on him, but you're right. He seems to just be missing that extra gear that take games over regardless of how the game is, regardless of who's on the field.
00:50:54
Speaker
which is what the best quarterbacks in the NFL do week after week. And on defense for the 49ers, Fred Warner says ah after the game in the second half, we kind of melted down. Too much leaky yardage, missed tackles, not fitting it right. So it's this 49ers defense, we we mentioned how their depth stepped up last week, but now that depth is kind of starting to weaken a bit. We're seeing how injuries have affected this team. And the defense is kind of losing that identity. Like I think,
00:51:23
Speaker
like you said earlier the 49ers they can put up a ton of points that's what's become like the ah the identity of this team it's no longer like a a defense first team and that's got to be worrying kind of moving forward ah in an offense that hasn't been performing nearly as well this year like you don't have to lean you don't have that to lean on anymore oh far from it and if you look at their games you know you take away the Patriots game they've given up 20 or more points except for the Jets when they played in week one who you know We've already touched on not not so good on on offense. So Yeah, the 49ers man They just need a a bit of a get-right game or they just need a game that can kind of flip the momentum in their way for their season and I think they have a perfect opportunity on Thursday night to finally get a division win. I Didn't look at it. I don't know who's at home in that game But if San Fran's at home against the Seahawks, they are not
00:52:18
Speaker
okay so i was gonna say it just feels like a it feels like it would have been a must win if they were at home against the seahawks yeah if you you know go to oh and three in the division and that's just tough to overcome so in in a way you still got to find a way to win that game but i mean i don't feel as confident about it when they have to go on the road to seattle but they need to find loser leaves town game Oh, not quite yet. But in division Thursday night, two teams coming off bad losses. I'm going to say it's it's less of a loser leaves town for the 49ers than it is the Seahawks because that Seahawks schedule that you mentioned and what they have to go.
00:52:57
Speaker
Yeah, it's just tough. And I just I have a little more faith in the 49ers. It could be based off past reputation. And this could be a completely different team than yours past. ah But they just need to find a way to stay around that 500 mark when before McCaffrey gets back. And then I think I think you're going to see this team really ascend ah if McCaffrey comes back. I guess that's not a full guarantee. But if he comes back, I think you're going to see this team be a lot more dynamic on offense, which hopefully leads to better success on defense.
00:53:27
Speaker
Yeah, I think that that really does it interesting game on Thursday night lot on the line for both teams ah will move to the AFC now in a game we don't have to spend a ton of time on but we gotta mention Broncos 34 Raiders 18 Broncos finally beat the Raiders they stop an eight game losing skid versus Las Vegas Uh, which is insane, you know, to even think about because the Broncos, you know, are one of those teams where you kind of give the benefit of the doubt, like a good organization, but now in the past couple of years, like that's kind of falling apart. Um, but what I took from this game, uh, it has Pat certain established himself as like the best corner in the league. Or was this just like a super skilled player showing out against not so good QBs. He finishes with two interceptions, including a a hundred yard pick six.
00:54:14
Speaker
Yeah, I've I've always been high on Sir Tan. I found people are way were way too quick to crown Sauce Gardner, who's like I sauce gardeners a fine corner in the league, but he hasn't really earned. I don't know what he's done to earn that reputation in the league, especially this year. He he has been.
00:54:31
Speaker
non-existent, I would argue. draw He dropped that interception quick back to the Vikings game. He had that interception drop in the end zone, which you look back on it now, could have changed the game, whatever, back to the Broncos. Yeah, Sir Tan is an absolute player. Like I said, he has shorter odds than McKinney to win defense player of the year. So he's clearly getting respect ah from from people and including Vegas.
00:54:57
Speaker
But man, I just I'm impressed with this Broncos team, because when they went to 0 and two and they had that game against the Steelers and Bo Nicks just looked like he didn't know how to play football. Now they've ripped off three in a row. You get a division win here and like Javante Williams has a hundred and eleven total yards. It's just like the offense is humming out of nowhere. Thirty four points who like I would have told you the Broncos wouldn't have touched 30 points all season long. But from what I've seen on them.
00:55:26
Speaker
This is just the roller coaster experience of Bo Nix, man. Like, he goes 19 for 27, 206 yards, two TDs, and a rushed TD 117 passer rating.
00:55:38
Speaker
This is just the bonus experience, man. i've I've been telling Broncos fans kind of all year, as long as you, as Knicks gets better each week, you're kind of in a great spot with this team. Like it it's, it's only going up right now and you only kind of have room to go forward here. Like even if he does regress a bit, then this team is still kind of in a good spot with a divisional win. Like you mentioned, um, the yelling match on the sideline with Sean Payton, another Broncos fan pointed out to me like,
00:56:06
Speaker
the difference in that spat between the difference or with ah Russell Wilson last year like When he gets in the spot with bonyx here He goes it's part of the deal Peyton said there is still a little bit of Ferris Bueller in this player that we have to get rid of Don't know what that means whatsoever. Like well, what is that? I think he was trying to be Tomlin with like one of those with one those quotes and it's just are like a Harbaugh and you're just like what came in just What are you talking about? Just say just say you like it and i just say, you know, you're you're into that kind of stuff out of a young quarterback. You didn't want, you know, you and Ross were fighting over power trips and and who who had more, you know, control of the offense when it's like, OK, now, you know, you have at a young quarterback, you're kind of like ah a father figure in a way to him. It's it's kind of weird, dude. He keeps saying I love Bo like any time he says a quote, he's like, I love Bo. I want to say that again. I love him.
00:56:59
Speaker
um But when Russ got yelled at last year that when he like was really stoic on the sideline, he didn't move. ah He denied he was yelling at him and said he was yelling at the play caller and then finished it with what I talk about with Russ is none of your business. So it's just that the tone switch between the two is is so crazy.
00:57:18
Speaker
I also think it's kind of crazy that Bo Nix is a captain on this team. like it's I don't know how much stock you put into captains, but it's like kind of hard to break your rookie quarterback when he's supposed to be a leader in the dressing room. It's a bit of a weird move for me. Yeah, I don't know. I also agree. I think Jayden Daniels, I think, has a captain. I think Kayla Williams was he doesn't have a captain uh maybe i don't know i think i thought that was a thing of true uh like pft was chirping big cat about you know are you worried that kaleb wasn't named a captain jaden was uh so i don't think i don't put too much stock into captains it feels like there's 10 on nfl teams and there's a couple couple l's on colorado um but man i i just think this is
00:58:04
Speaker
there's There's problems in Vegas. i'm I'm turning over to the Vegas side of things because I think Broncos are riding high. I think they're happy with what's going on. Big one against the Chargers next week. Kind of see where they're at. The Vegas Raiders are in big, big, big trouble. You got the Devontae Adams saga going on. You just got blown out by three plus scores to a division rival that you ah appear on paper to be around the same like team as. You can lose this game by a point or two and no one really bats an eye, but getting blown out like that to the Broncos.
00:58:39
Speaker
here Pierce just might be in a little bit over his head. Yeah, that is what I took from this game. Like, does Antonio Pierce have control of this room? Like, Minshu goes 12 for 17, 137 yards, TD and two interceptions. He completed his first nine passes straight for 115 yards. And after the second interception, just immediately gets the yank and Aiden O'Connell goes in the game throws an interception on his on the first pass of his second series. He goes 10 for 20 with 94 yards. This is the Vegas team I saw coming in our preseason preview like this is Vegas at its worst can absolutely be the worst team in the NFL and the the insufficiencies are really starting to show here. They just they can't seem to figure anything out like Max Crosby is the only consistent thing on this team bar none.
00:59:35
Speaker
Yeah. And I mean, Brock Bowers looks like he's going to be a player, but he's like he said, he's not consistent yet. ah It's it's just not good. Then Devontae Adams is posting some of the weirdest cryptic ah Instagram stories with like Edgar Allan Poe, just a photo of his face and then a quote. So I think that means he wants to go to Baltimore. But then, you know, maybe Rogers got solid fired because he wants Adams. I just don't know what's going on.
01:00:04
Speaker
with Vegas, and they have like they have you know up there with the Panthers, but the worst quarterback controversy of all time, because you have two backup quarterbacks fighting for a starting job, and no one's going to go out there and take it, because neither are good. It's it's the worst spot. They need to be looking for a quarterback in the first round this year to see what you can get for Devontae Adams, because you might as well trade them earlier rather than later, because your return will only be higher.
01:00:33
Speaker
ah They need to just they want this season to already end it's insane that they're not oh and five right now And they're somehow two and three. Yeah, but that there is nothing promising coming out of Vegas from this team No, there is not each week It's more and more shocking that they beat the Ravens like that is gonna be one of those games at the end of the seasons Like how the hell did that happen? um speaking of how the hell did that happen and Let's move to what was probably the best game on Sunday.

Ravens vs Bengals High-Scoring Game

01:01:01
Speaker
Ravens 41, Bengals 38, and the Bengals are done. and And they fall to 1-4 and manage to keep losing in different ways. They've lost three games at home, Patrick. They have only beat the Carolina Panthers. Two weeks ago, the offense put up 34 points in loss.
01:01:22
Speaker
This week they put up 38 points and lose. Joe Burrow had 716 yards and eight touchdowns in those games. No defense. They can't close. This team's done.
01:01:35
Speaker
They are finished and I think kind of deservedly so because if you can't win this game when you had a 10 point lead with, you know, less than I think it was around nine, eight minutes left. Oh, it was just a disgusting loss for them. You know, killed me on our on our picks should have been two and one felt good about this. And then, you you know, the Bengals, it's it goes to overtime.
01:01:59
Speaker
You know, I'm not the end of the world. It's, you know, you can go out there and still win this game. Uh, you're at home, you're feeling good. Joe burrows having a game, you know, T Higgins, Jamar chase. It's finally the first game where they're both going. They both had a pair of touchdowns. You get the turnover. You got a huge turnover of a botch fumble. It's like, and then you get on the ball. Still plenty of time left in OT.
01:02:24
Speaker
plenty of time and overtime, and you're not even, it's not, you're not inside 50 yard field goal range yet, and you go out and you run the ball three straight times. When Joe Burrow is 30 of 39, you got two elite receivers, why do you not throw the ball once? And then of course, what happens, botched hold, missed 53 yarder, Derek Henry breaks the 51 rushing, ah rush the next play, and it's game over. yeah And your season's done.
01:02:52
Speaker
just like that and conservative play calling is so back in the NFL like it it had a a little moment there with your Dan Campbell's with your Mike McDaniels uh where you know being gutsy and going for it was really in trend conservative play calling is all the way back and it's losing teams games like it it is the Bengals are gifted the ball in overtime and you proceed to just absolutely you know just Be scared. They were scared on offense at the end of that game after Joe Burrow is like absolutely lighting the field up up and down. You mentioned T Higgins and Chase both finished with two TDs. Burrow has a career high five touchdown passes.
01:03:34
Speaker
and you still lose this game. Like, if that doesn't win games, I don't know what does for this team. Their next game is Sunday Night Football versus the Giants, and I'm not gonna make the mistake again. That is not a buy. The Giants, I like the Giants in that game, and I don't like the Bengals in that game, and that just says everything you need to know about where this team is. um On the other side, the Ravens, like, I'm not gonna take too much from a divisional game with the Ravens here. Like, you win those games exactly how you have to. It doesn't really matter.
01:04:04
Speaker
and And Lamar Jackson, that's what I took from this game. He is reaching another level. He's now second in odds to win his third MVP trophy. Like this is he is elevating himself to one of the best quarterbacks in the league. His ability to improvise, his ability to avoid tackles that TD do Isaiah likely after the fumble on the start of the snap. Like that in itself is a nutshell.
01:04:29
Speaker
of how good Lamar Jackson is at extending plays and making up offense out of nothing. Really, really impressive game from him. Yeah, and it was ah it was a different Ravens offense than we saw the past couple weeks where it was basically just all Derek Henry Lamar would add rushing yards. There was over almost a thousand yards of total offense in this game. It was very fun to watch and Lamar threw for 348 yards to go along with four touchdowns. Man, and then Z-Flowers had seven receptions for 111 yards, four receivers over 50 yards.
01:05:03
Speaker
Lamar was throwing the ball man it was nice to see the Ravens be able to win win games with two different styles of offense because Derek Henry until that overtime rush was held in check for the most part and it was just the the Bengals really struggle ah stopping the run they find a way to do it and then you just get gashed through the air and it's like this is the worst defense in the NFL because once you you know they sold out to stop the run clearly it worked and then they just weren't able to adjust when Lamar goes you know what I'm just gonna start throwing it on you guys and you're not gonna be able to stop me it it was
01:05:41
Speaker
It was an impressive game from Baltimore. i'm Like you said, I'm not taking anything away. If anything, it was an impressive comeback, right? Like it was similar to the Cardinals where it's like, you just kept fighting. You didn't, you didn't stop in this game just because you were down late, kept fighting. And like you said, Lamar through five games, you know, it's a long season. We'll see what happens, but through five games is for sure a top MVP candidate. Yeah. The Bengals led by 10 points, three different times in the second half.
01:06:10
Speaker
three different times, man. Insane, insane stat. Lamar brought them back three separate times. um My only concern for the Ravens is their pass defense right now. I think they are second last in opponent passing yards per game, second last in opponent passing first down percentage.
01:06:28
Speaker
which is 72%, which is really insane to say, um they're first in opponent rushing yards. So it's like their rush defense is there. They still have that great line, that great secondary you know line of linebackers. um But versus the commanders next Sunday, that a great passing offense. That could really be what you know gives the lean in that game. um But we will move to a puzzling, puzzling game.

Bills vs Texans Controversial Loss

01:06:54
Speaker
Texan's 23, Bill's 20, and Patrick, I gotta go on my soapbox here for a second. how are We are gonna have an album impromptu. giving them the business We're going back to giving them the business here ah because I gotta to give the business to the NFL, the NFL PA, and the league's player safety program here, Patrick. Josh Allen was knocked out cold in this game after slamming his head
01:07:19
Speaker
His arms go limp and his wrists are facing down. After that, Alan said after the game that an independent certified athletic trainer who serves as the spotter in the booth called for him to be checked for a concussion. Big shot to my chest, Alan said, and I rolled my ankle. That wasn't a you don't know where you are right now, Josh Allen. He's seen taking smelling salts on the sidelines and goes back within three minutes.
01:07:46
Speaker
to get back on the field in this game one week after seemingly being knocked out versus the Ravens on that trick play. He also went face down in the dirt in that game. Again, they called that a lower back injury. If that sounds familiar to you, it's because the Dolphins claim that Tua had a lower back injury to which he kept playing and the Bengals injury happened. Tua was also medically cleared in that game to which the m NFL and the NFLPA launched Both launched independent investigations into the Miami brass and they changed the rules days later after after uproar everywhere. I talked about it with Anthony Richardson last week. The only major media outlet I have seen go in depth on it is the fucking Pat McAfee show. They are the ones who was talking about how dangerous it is to get two concussions back to back.
01:08:38
Speaker
What is going on here? Why are there double standards in the NFL with concussions? Going out cold is one of the top no-go symptoms they call it in the NFL's concussion protocol. It is an absolute no-go. If you get knocked out now, you are not allowed back in the game. There's loss of consciousness and gross motor instability, which limp arms I would say is a check and a check. Patrick, what is going on?
01:09:04
Speaker
I hope this doesn't come across as rude, but I hope Josh Allen was concussed because that was a horrible game from him. He was 9 of 30 for 131 yards, added a touchdown in there and 54 yards on the ground. But he was horrible. ah the The bills on offense looked like if it wasn't for CJ Stroud throwing for just what appeared to be a Couple, couple horrible interceptions this week yeah as we go along this episode, but that one was horrible. That kind of led to their first thing. And then they had the force fumble, a drive, maybe two drives after that. And it was just without those plays. Houston wins his game comfortably, two scores probably. They don't have to you know fight it out for a game-winning field goal by Fairbairn at the end.
01:09:50
Speaker
But Josh Allen looks so bad in this game and just the bills as a whole. If if Keon Coleman doesn't like it was ah just so many fluke plays in a way for this bills team in this game that, you know, with without these things going their way, I could have you could see them getting shut out in a sense. And it's just like what's going on. And then back to your concussion thing.
01:10:13
Speaker
he's He's less as questionable for ah for the next game against the Jets. And if he misses it due to a concussion, then I think we got even even more like serious. Like what's going on? How do you let him go back into that game? Because I don't think anyone's buying the ankle. Right. Like no one with no one with no one that saw the play. ah Maybe a couple of bills fans think it was an ankle. But if you just watch what happened there.
01:10:38
Speaker
He was out for at least a second. He, there was a period of time where he was not responsive and you know, sometimes you can come back from that. You know, you see UFC fighters get knocked out and quickly come back, but this isn't the UFC man no and and the NFL, they they preach player safety, but I think we all know they don't actually care about it and they're all hypocrites and they're going to want Josh Allen out there on Monday night and they're probably going to clear him no matter what.
01:11:05
Speaker
Absolutely. And yeah, and it's just it is hypocritical, like you said, because it's for some reason it's always to even though we've already mentioned Richards and he's got three in a very in three and eight games yeah for Anthony Richardson. No, no problem there. and Now, Josh and yeah, it was I think my home's even got hit in the head in the game last on Monday, whereas like, oh, you know, if that's ah that's Gardner Minshew, he's probably got to go get checked at least. So absolutely, man. It's insane because Josh Allen threw five incompletions after coming back, like five straight incomplete balls, balls that like were nowhere near the receivers to like he was clearly clearly shaken up and did not know what he was doing in that game. And and we haven't even gotten to the Sean McDermott disaster class here.
01:11:54
Speaker
at 20 and 20 tied game, Bills decide to throw three straight incompletions with their concussed quarterback from their own one yard line. They proceed to punt the ball out of the end zone to set up the Texans basically in field goal territory.
01:12:10
Speaker
On the play that the Texans are just trying to get a few yards, they basically played prevent defense. Like they they had two safeties go all the way to the goal line as if the Texans were going to go for a fucking Hail Mary there and try and win the game of the touchdown. They they get a few yards. Kaimi Fairbairn, 59 yards is very in his bag we've seen so far this season. And yes, I know Houston had three timeouts. Make them use them, man.
01:12:36
Speaker
if you get seven yards even on that on three rushes there let's say you are that much further out of a makeable field goal territory James Cook he's not a scrub like it that was some of the worst play calling I've ever seen he says overall that's on me after the game McDermott said we just got to do a better job I have to do a better job in that situation no kidding man yeah that That's exactly the the decisions you know a head coach makes in the game. Even if you're not calling players, you go say, we are running the ball here. We are forcing timeouts. And the biggest thing for me is, you know you're right. Maybe you don't get a first down. That's OK. Like you said, make them use three yeah three timeouts. The biggest issue for me on that is when you just go in and you throw three incomplete passes from where you started that drive,
01:13:24
Speaker
You gain no yards. If you run the ball three times, you got to think you get at least five, maybe more. Then your punter has more room to punt. Then the Texans have to go an extra five, six, seven, however many yards you get with no timeouts, right? Like it's yeah a lot of factors would have led to overtime if you just ran the ball three times.
01:13:46
Speaker
maybe even a scream pass if you wanted to get cute like what are we doing just airing the ball out it was close because it was like Josh Allen you know he was who knows what he was seeing maybe he pulls an Orlovski goes out of the end zone or something for a safety to just lose the game um and the Texans with three timeouts cut it pretty close for that field goal too it was just Yeah, really bad decision making and just like just a horrible game from the bills and and the Texans, they weren't great either, but just an awful, awful game from the bills and shout out to Diggs. He got his revenge. that yeah That handshake was pretty funny. That was funny. Like clearly there's some love loss there. He said it was an emotional Sunday for me. I'm emotional. Um, they lose Nico Collins in that game. That was really tough to a hamstring injury. They're already calling it week to week.
01:14:36
Speaker
which I hate, um and they're clearly missing Joe Mixon. like he They rushed for just 94 yards in this game. Acres had 42 yards on nine rushes in a touchdown. He wasn't horrible, but again, game planning for Joe Mixon is a whole lot different than game planning for Cam Acres. They get a bit of ah a reprieve here. They go at New England next Sunday. ah But yeah, the Texans need to get some of their guys back. It wasn't a perfect game from them, but yeah.
01:15:02
Speaker
You take everything from the bills in this game, just a disaster, disaster game. We're starting to see that first six game schedule that we kind of hounded on the bills for the but in our NFL preview. They could go on three here if they lose to this jet team, which I'm sure Josh Allen will be on the field. um But let's go quick fire

Dolphins vs Patriots Game Mistakes

01:15:21
Speaker
here. We're going to do some quick hits for the last four games here.
01:15:25
Speaker
Starting with Dolphins Patriots, 15-10, just an absolutely disgusting game to watch. I can't even believe they showed it on Red Zone. um my the the I think the AP story was like Miami made so many mistakes, the Patriots made more in the Miami 15-10 win, and that was it. like Miami had a block punt, two missed field goals, a snap over Tyler Huntley's head that put them out of field goal range, an interception that set up the Patriots only touchdown,
01:15:52
Speaker
um But the Pats 12 penalties on 105 yards five pre snap violations five offensive holding calls This was the ugliest game probably the season probably even uglier than that Titans game all dolphins games are just disgusting currently Damien and and it's unfortunate for you because yeah you don't even want to watch it in it in a sense and you know Jason Sanders like you mentioned tried to lose the game and if that touchdown by the pay it was so close if they decided to uphold that I wouldn't have even been
01:16:26
Speaker
that's I think they got right. But again, I wouldn't have been mad at all or confused at all if it wasn't. Especially in a game like that, where it's just like, does the other team want to win this game? did who Who wants better better odds for first overall? because Pretty much. Is there an update on Tua? Or is that just like he's going to sit out the four IR games and just kind of see where he's at after? that that is That is what the status quo is right now. But man, he looks like he's struggling to even watch on the sidelines. He looks disgusted.
01:17:14
Speaker
Yeah, it's it's tough. ah Bright side, I guess, you know, you know, not a bright side. A chain went out with an injury. He, you know, his injury and health concerns continue. ah But Wright and Mostert stepped up big time. They both went over 80 yards. So I guess there's something to take away from the game. If you're if you're a Dolphins fan, there's a good Mike McDaniel game. He he at least seemed to snap out of it a bit like they actually Focused on running the ball a ton, you know in gold gets the TD that pushes it through just like a perfect Bow on on a running game with when your fullback gets the the winning touchdown They took field goals over going for it on fourth Like that was at least a game where you see like, okay Maybe Mike McDaniel is kind of figuring out how to game plan

Bears vs Panthers Performance

01:17:55
Speaker
here a bit. um We won't stick on it long bears 36 Panthers 10
01:17:59
Speaker
Caleb Williams had himself a day. My favorite bet of the season so far, Caleb Williams plus 275 passing was plus 450. He connects with DJ more early for a touchdown. That connection seems to be getting better week in and week out. um The Bears game run game came alive. Swift had 120 yards from scrimmage. Roshan Johnson with two red zone TDs. ah This was a good game from the Bears. I don't really care if it was against the Panthers.
01:18:24
Speaker
Yeah, no, you did yeah, you you should be beating these teams, right? If you want to be a playoff team, you have to go out and smash, smack the Panthers in the face. And that's exactly what they did. It's the biggest thing for me on this offense, aside from DJ Moore and Caleb Williams, finally, you know, creating some chemistry. It's they're getting the run game going, which just opens up more options for Caleb, gives them more time. They're less predictable. It's just like they, from what they were in the first three games to the last two games, it almost looks like two different teams on offense. And it's yeah it's got to be encouraging for Bears fans, this yeah Caleb best game by far, you know, 304, two touchdowns, 34 on the ground.
01:19:04
Speaker
Um, and just, just a reality check for the Panthers. Like just when you thought, you know, maybe you can sneak a couple of wins and maybe Andy Dolan's like a top 25 quarterback in the NFL. It's like, Oh no, we're seeing both price young appearance in there. Yeah.
01:19:18
Speaker
Big, big third down throw from Bryce Young. ah They continue to be the worst defense in the league, like, which hasn't fully been their identity yet because of the Dalton ah Young drama. But this defense is terrible. Twenty four first downs for the the Bears. Four hundred and twenty four total yards. They couldn't get a sack to save their lives here. A little bit of that was how good Caleb Williams is at avoiding pressure. But a lot of that was like they could not get home whatsoever. Andy Dalton goes 136 yards in an interception. The only bright spot of this team is how productive Chubba Hubbard continues to be. He had 97 yards in the touchdown. He's having like a bit of a career resurgence this year.
01:19:56
Speaker
Yeah, it looks like a starting running back in the NFL when I think a lot of people you know thought he was going to be a career backup. I think people were high on Jonathan Brooks, who's you know the the rookie for the Panthers at running back. He can come back. No, say and I don't see him taking Chuba's job at this point from if he continues to perform at this level. But yes, like you said, the the lone bright spot for the Panthers is Chuba.

Jaguars vs Colts Win and Lawrence's Birthday

01:20:21
Speaker
Yeah, Jags 37 Colts 34 Doug Peterson avoids the hot seat avoids being the first coach fired somehow. And the Jags managed to pull this one off to get their first win since last December. And they extend their home streak against the Colts to 10 wins, which is one of the craziest stats in the NFL, they just cannot cannot lose to the Colts at home. T-law gets a big win on his 25th birthday, 371 yards, two touchdowns. This was much more like the Trevor we all know and love. Maybe and we all don't love him, but yeah I know you and me really like him. Brian Thomas is a dog, five receptions, 122 yards, a touchdown.
01:21:01
Speaker
he's looking to be kind of like a steal of the draft right now um and the sideline argument with Gabe Davis who continues to do nothing man three for 38 that that was hilarious I didn't even see it actually oh yeah just big screaming match between T-law and Gabe Davis who Trevor said he put down the tablet a little bit too hard like it was I don't know what's going on there very weird vibes out of there Tank Bigsby continues to go big on big. He he had 101 yards, two touchdowns. I'm going to get deep into the nerdy stats here. First in rush yards over expectation per attempt, third in PFF grades for all running backs, first in yards per carry right now, and a 50% success rate. Should Travis Etienne be like worried about his starting job?
01:21:47
Speaker
Well, absolutely, I was going to add to your list that ah tank tank stealing jobs right now, like Etienne was basically a receiver in that game. And, you know, the two touchdowns, like he kind of broke that game open for them in a way. And

Browns' Challenges and Washington's Strong Start

01:22:01
Speaker
without him, it it feels like the ah the Colts scored 24 points in the fourth quarter, tied the game up, and then it was a Jaguars found a way to to win this game. But oh, my goodness, if ah You got to think like Doug would have been fired if he gave up 24 points in the fourth quarter to a division rival when you're already on four and like the the offense was humming pretty perfectly for the Jaguars. And then you just give up all those yards. It's just that would have been a horrible result for the Panthers. Right now for the Panthers. Yeah, the Jaguars. Same team. Yeah, Doug Peterson wearing another stupid visor, too. That was great.
01:22:41
Speaker
um Flacco's got the found a youth man 359 yards three touchdowns just When you look at the Browns, who we'll touch on very, very, very quickly next, ah just insane that they let him go. like This is a guy who could be stepping in and in like winning the Browns games right now. He's still got it. um Commanders 34. Oh, Go on. Are you going to say something? I was just going to say the Kevin Durant tweet. No matter where our flock was, he's still going to hoop. That was great. Commanders 34. Speaking of Kevin Durant, ah Browns 13. Not much to say other than Jane Daniels is really special.
01:23:15

And the Browns are historically bad, which is crazy to say about the Browns who have put up some of the worst seasons in NFL history. ah Washington is four in one for the first time since 2008. Like, I feel like I haven't even seen like other than the RG three years, like a good Washington team in my whole life as an NFL fan.
01:23:35
Speaker
um Commanders go 432 yards, 211 on the ground, 219 in the air. James Winston needs to start the next game. Watson went 15 for 28, 125 yards in the touchdown, sacked seven times in this one. He has 26 sacks through five games, which is like leading the league by far.
01:23:57
Speaker
and uh stefansky has given him the vote of confidence to start the next game so uh it's going on man clear that stefansky has little to no you know respect authority control even like he has and not he is a puppet for upstairs, ah the GM, the president, possibly the owner. I just don't know how to, I don't know what goes on behind the scenes in that Cleveland Browns organization, but they've they've done it again, man. Just when you think they've maybe like turned a corner as a franchise, you know you have something boiling, you have skill players, you got good players on defense, you're you're making playoffs.
01:24:38
Speaker
It's all over again like it was like a nice three year run for you but i mean that's kind of what they get when you run baker out of town that the first flash of success they've had in in decades you have run them out of town you bring in this you give this.
01:24:54
Speaker
brutal person, a fully guaranteed ah contract, and then he just decides he doesn't want to play football anymore. He just looks, it's insane. I got bored yesterday and I looked up to Sean Watson, Houston Texans, highlights. man and You could even go back to college if you want to see him at his peak, but it is insane. It's just like this guy didn't really have ah a major injury. I know he was banged up a little bit last year, but He is a shell of what he was. And I don't know if it's, he stopped caring after the money or Cleveland just does this to people, but he is, he is really bad. And you could argue the worst starting quarterback in the NFL. Absolutely. And he, he struggles with his instinct. Like his instinct is gone. That was one of the best things he had on the Texans. He knew when to throw the ball. He had a great deep ball and now he just, he can't feel pressure.
01:25:49
Speaker
He doesn't look confident in any sense of the word, and things are just going to continue to get worse in in Cleveland. I think all Browns fans have just turned to Ohio State now. like You're fully just watching college football every weekend. Guardians. Guardians in Ohio State. um But that does it for our week five recap.
01:26:08
Speaker
We're going to take a quick break here and we'll come back for our week six picks and a special, special Mount Rushmore of 50 things. So stick around for our first ever Mount Rushmore. I'm excited for it, um but we'll be back just after this. All right, we're back week six picks. I go two and one to move to eight and seven. Patrick goes to a crushing one and two with the Bengals blowing it at the end of the game. He moves to seven and eight.
01:26:37
Speaker
Another tough week on the schedule. I hold serve here. This is where the real separate from the fake here. These are, these are tough, tough spreads here and, and not a whole lot to like on the board. Some weird over unders, a lot of really close spreads. And I'm going to lead off here with a bit of a shot in the dark here.
01:26:59
Speaker
I don't know exactly what to make out of this team, but I like them in this game. I'm going to go the Falcons minus six against the Panthers. It was six and a half this morning, and it's now six, which worries me a little bit. But what I saw from the Panthers defense the past couple of weeks versus what I've seen from the Falcons offense, Kirk has had a couple of monster games. I trust that the Falcons to be able to get it done on offense here.
01:27:28
Speaker
And on defense, all you got to do is stop like one of the worst offenses in the league right now. You know, run the ball Falcons minus six. Yeah. Falcons are starting to, to round into form on offense. So yeah, I don't, there's no picks that you're going to say that I'm going to be like, love it. You know what I mean? it's It's one of those weeks. I got no real feel. Um, so I'm just gonna, gonna try something here. We'll see what happens, but give me the, uh, give me the Washington commanders.
01:27:56
Speaker
ah Catching six and a half big dogs have been covering this year in the NFL So hopefully that trend continues and I just if they keep pace they should be able to cover six and a half points Yeah, this was it was between the Falcons and the commanders for this first pick for me So I i actually don't hate that pick. I don't love it, but I don't hate it ah considering how good the Ravens are You know, there's a bit of a cause for concern there I'm going to stick on that game and go over 52 and a half in Commander's ra Ravens. I think that is a game with considering what I spoke about with the Ravens past defense, um the Commander's defense hasn't looked amazing. This is a game where I could totally see them getting gashed up. I'm going to go over in Commander's rars Ravens over 52 and a half.
01:28:40
Speaker
Yeah, i'm I'm most concerned about the commander's defense in that game as well, but they've looked okay recently. ah Going back to being in a total merchant under, not in the Steelers game, in the Browns and Eagles game.
01:28:55
Speaker
i I don't know. um I just don't think the Eagles are you know great on ah offense. Jalen Hurts has a turnover problem, which kills drives and is good for unders. And I just can't see the Browns putting up that many points. So ah under 43 and a half in that game. Under 43 and a half. Yeah, that that's a weird game, man. Like the Eagles coming off a bye, they could destroy them.
01:29:18
Speaker
or if they look bad like it's it's the ultimate Eagles blow up like Syrian is probably next I know and it's just such a big number that you kind of want to take the Browns then you think Eagles off the by i'm I'm just gonna go under under the total very fair very fair I am going to go with my last pick with your boys Patrick Steelers minus three against the Raiders This is a prove it game for the Steelers for me. I i want to see a bounce back game. I want to see a big game on offense. This is the team that the defense could just absolutely eat up the Raiders on offense. So I am sticking with the defense here and taking Steelers minus three.
01:29:56
Speaker
yeah i liked it i would have loved it at two and a half because it just feels like the steelers if they win could just be a fuel goal um with my last pick here's another team off a buy i i don't love it because they're on the road and it's kind of similar thing to the steelers but chargers minus three Feels like it's push written all over it, but I'm taking the Chargers off a by Broncos or, you know, Broncos are at as high as they will be this season. I'm hoping for a big reality check come Sunday.
01:30:28
Speaker
Yeah, that's an interesting one like that. You hope that the Chargers really use the bye week. Well, you know, Justin Herbert gets another week of kind of getting healthy. I looked at the over in that game. It's thirty five and a half. Which is like that's right. And push push is just written all over that game with the total that low. It's it's but I'll take a push. Push is better than a loss. I'm just waiting to have to include the the extra digit in the graphic here, like as long as both of us. Like as long as we can have clean games, makes the graphic easy. Um, but yeah, that w considering that the Broncos scored 34 points or 36 points against the Raiders, like that is a low, low total. Like, I don't know if that's more an indictment of the chargers than anything. I i just think, I think the Broncos have to come back to back to reality and I guess I gotta hope it happens this week.
01:31:19
Speaker
Yeah, I tend to agree. um Those are our week six picks. This will be a big week. I'm going to guess like if if some things could happen here, I don't know. Like we're we're just tossing whatever sticks at the wall. Maybe we know what we're talking about. It's it's shocking. Neither of us has thrown an 0 for a week yet. it's It's actually shocking. Borderline impressive. Good for the program. Doing it on a Tuesday is the worst. Yeah, we've mentioned that before. We're not looking for any pats on the backs.
01:31:49
Speaker
um but everybody hearing these picks, I want you to know we're making these on a Tuesday. It's extremely hard.

Draft Segment: Things Related to 50

01:31:56
Speaker
um But moving out of week six picks into a first for this program, a Mount Rushmore of 50 things If you're if you're a bit confused of what it is, like our our picks will clearly line that out here, just things with like 50 in the title, 50 related. um Patrick, I got this 25 cent coin here. I'm going to flip it and I'm going to let you call for first pick here. I think first overall pick is huge in this draft. I agree. I'm going to take tails and please tell me it's tails.
01:32:30
Speaker
Come on is tails. You win first overall pick. that's big we all I think we all know what that this has got to be a consensus 1-1. I think so. 50 cent is my pick. Hell of a wrapper. Unlimited bangers. um And just the number 150 I think of. This was one of the few things I just i didn't have to Google. It came straight to my mind. Yeah. 50 cent was right up there for me. If there was a unanimous 1-1 in this game, it was that.
01:33:01
Speaker
ah 50 Cent's got, yeah, you're right, unlimited bangers, man. like I went back, get rich, to or die trying album. There's just ah a zillion songs on there that you can replay. i He's having a big, big month or two, I would say, with the Diddy stuff. um So big, big first pick with 50 Cent. With my first pick, I'm and i' in a tough spot here because that you're right the drop off is pretty big but i'm gonna i'm gonna go with something that everybody loves and it's a 50 50 raffle i'm gonna go 50 50 raffle i've never won one in my life but that does not stop me from trying um nothing better than a good 50 50
01:33:42
Speaker
I had it. That was, that was my number two as well. So I got to say good pick for you. Um, well, dude, I, this sound or this idea sounded a lot better in Damien eyes heads. And then we actually had to do some research and then it's, uh, this might not be as deep as a category as we thought, but wait, are we, is it a snake? Yeah. You snake, right?
01:34:02
Speaker
No, I was going to say we do alternating picks because there's only two of us. Okay. Sounds good. Um, I'll take that. And, Oh man, this did that. It's the drop off whose brains working better is the, is the thing. And I'm going to go with the United States of America. There is 50 states and, uh, You know, the U.S. gives us football. They give us college football. They give us a lot of things. So I'm going to take the 50 United States of America. That's ah that's earlier than I thought it would go. But you're right. When when I hear your reasoning, like all the things of of this show that we talk about that come from the States, it's deserving.
01:34:44
Speaker
I just I have no power rankings on any of these as except for like the first two. So it's all. Yeah, I don't know. It's tough. All right. Second pick here. I'm going to go in ah in the football realm and it's something that we all love when it happens. I'm going to go with a 50 burger when a team puts up 50 points.

Unique Draft Picks and Creativity

01:35:02
Speaker
I hope that like comes through on the graphic like like it.
01:35:06
Speaker
I'm not talking about some burger from like Sonic or Wendy's or something like, Oh, I've never heard of the 50 burger. Like a 50 burger, when a team can put up 50 points, it's an awesome thing. You had an exciting day watching football that day.
01:35:19
Speaker
Yes. Um, ones that come to mind dolphins over Broncos last year, 70 burger, actually. Exactly. With my next pick, I just, I, I have so many just random ones written down that I really have to explain. So for me, I will go with The police the 5-0 I just yell the backbone of of society sometimes and I don't know I just I've lacked depth in a lot of these pics So I just thought ah maybe I'll get some creativity points with ah the police and just you know their their nickname is the 5-0 for context if people didn't know that
01:36:04
Speaker
All right, all right. i had well I'll all'll probably, it'll end up probably being an honorable mention, maybe my fourth pick, but I have something semi-related to that. Okay. I am going to go 51st dates. Great movie, Adam Sandler, Drew Barrymore, 51st

Honorable Mentions and Reflections

01:36:20
Speaker
dates. This is a rom-com that like everybody can get their head around. I saw it early, I would say, like for it for a rom-com. One of the first ones I think I ever watched.
01:36:40
Speaker
All right, man, there's there I've got I've got six options written down. I got one pick to make. So knowing me, I'll definitely make the right decision here. And I'm going to go with ah this isn't going to play as much as I think it will. But ah it's I'm god I'm not going to pander Mike Singletary. He was a linebacker for the Bears, wore the number 50, has an iconic press conference. um Can't play with them can't win with them. Can't just can't do it um Great great ah defense player Hall of Famer defense player of the year and just just a legend in the football community I like that. Yeah, just that it was more for the press conference and his play just because he always sticks out to me just ripping Vernon Davis We needed ah a football like a pure football pick on the graphic.
01:37:30
Speaker
Yeah, so Singletary is my fourth rounder and you know I'll let you know some of my honorable mentions after. This is where it's tough. i've I'm between two last picks here and one of them is a bit more obscure. One of them is straight up. One of them is going to look definitely better on the graphic. um But I'm going to go with it with the personal pick here, Hawaii Five-O.
01:37:52
Speaker
That's similar to your 5.0 pick. Great show. One of the best all-time openings to ah to a TV show. that that So I'm gonna go Hawaii 5.0. When I was younger, I always had to go to bed before Hawaii 5.0 was on, so I would hear the theme song from downstairs. It was just a great, great song to hear. Hawaii 5.0.
01:38:13
Speaker
I saw it out there, but I just, I only know the opening, the yeah song. So like, I can't just pick something that I have no idea what it's about. Uh, well, obviously it's about police, but, uh, yeah. scott Great Scott, great Scott Conroll, you know, love Scott Conner as an actor, great in entourage, great in that show. Um, both the old and the new show, we I'm getting generations with this pick. Uh, but it is a strategy pick here.
01:38:39
Speaker
honorable mentions. Honorable mentions. What do you, what do you got here? I got some weird ones. Yeah, I got a lot of like people. Um, I put the two five and O teams chiefs Vikings. I thought maybe, maybe I do that. Um, put Ryan Shazier cause close to my heart. He was number 50 with the Steelers. It's an I had 50 degrees.
01:38:58
Speaker
ah ten degrees celsius um just don on fall weather football weather ah thought about it didn't take it i think that's a good move two people i put steve o who's fifty years old and lo see i thought about taking little ca with the fact that 50 Cent could like win you this entire thing just off that first overall pick. It doesn't even matter. um I had 50 ways to leave your lover, great Paul Simon song. That's a good one. Is a good one. um the The one between Wi-Fi was going to take 50 and 39, the Gretzky 50 goals and 39 games. but
01:39:38
Speaker
It's a bit too obscure for the graphic. Like, I don't know if it's truly, I don't know, in the spirit, 50 yard line and an absolute break glass in case of emergency, 50 shades of gray.
01:39:52
Speaker
Yeah, I saw the one and just didn't write it down. I was like, I'm not, I could not end up on this graphic. I go, that is out of my realm, man. That is not for me. Um, what big one that I just, just popped in my head when you mentioned grassy 50 and Oh seven. I definitely should have taken that man. I don't know how I let that one go. Um, part of my childhood. So, uh, that that's a miss for me. That's, that's definitely a miss. And Yeah. Don't hold it against me, people. 50 cents, the best pick. Know that.

Episode Closure and Listener Appreciation

01:40:23
Speaker
50 and 0.7 would have been a great way to wrap off this draft. Maybe take your police pick.
