The Goal Post is back after a weekend with a couple BIG wins for the hosts.

Damien and Patrick start off by breaking down the Dolphins big win on Monday Night Football: Damien is fully back in on Miami, and we left with major questions about the Los Angeles Rams.

The boys then go through each game from Week 10 - The Chiefs stay undefeated somehow, the Steelers edge the Commanders, and the Bears hit absolute rock bottom. They finish by making their picks for the Week 11 slate - Damien leads +3.

To finish, the boys do a CFL Playoff recap of the Eastern & Western final, which included the hometown Argos getting revenge on the Alouettes. After that, they do a full preview of the 111th Grey Cup and make their predictions for the big game.

Dolphins' Defensive Triumph

00:00:17
Speaker
All right, welcome back to another episode of The Goalpost. And ladies and gentlemen, the Miami Dolphins have won a football game, a game on prime time nonetheless. And it was a win because of the defense. I can't believe I'm saying these words. What a win. And I regret to inform you all that I am all the way back in on the Dolphins, Patrick.
00:00:44
Speaker
Happy Victory Tuesday, Damian. They don't come around very often, so I hope you enjoy it. And that's you know that's a great place to start, because I was going to ask you at some point in this dolphin segment, where do we stand with this team? Because you know we we added we were on them against the Bills a little bit for poor defensive tackling. The the you know the Bills are kind of able to score at will, putting up 30 points on them. They were able to take a little bit of an extended week here, and they really flipped the script, they even fool Troy Aikman into thinking they had a great tackling defense.
00:01:13
Speaker
and they held the Rams to no touchdowns and only 15 points against. So I guess I'll ask the question. So you're all the way in and like, what's the goal now for the dolphins going forward this season?
00:01:25
Speaker
I think the goal to me is to make the playoffs in the seven seed and upset the bills at home in Buffalo. I think that that would make me so, so happy this team. It's already kind of floating around a bit that they are the perfect kind of spoiler team. We almost beat the bills once we lost them pretty bad the first time.
00:01:48
Speaker
If we, it's hard to beat a team three times. If we show up in my, in Buffalo come, you know, January, they could win that game. That's where my sites are set now is upsetting and ruining Buffalo Bill's fans, uh, seasons this year.
00:02:02
Speaker
Yeah, you're you're three and six now. The Broncos are currently in the last wild card spot in the AFC at five and five. So you're you're two and a half games out. um Have you had your buy yet nine games? Yes, you have. But the Broncos have not had their buy yet. So it'll eventually get to two games as adults can continue to win.

Offensive Strategies and Player Highlights

00:02:20
Speaker
But man if if they can continue to put what they put on the field on monday night out week after week, this is a team that can start rattling off some wins and you know you don't want to look in the rearview mirror but you know last week against buffalo that's gonna be a game that you're gonna want, the the game against the cardinals is another game that you're gonna want you know to have back. ah if you could you know do it all over again. But you got to look forward. I mean, it it was very impressive what I saw. It was the two a show last night. He wasn't perfect. But you could tell the offense was just so much better. I believe nine different receivers had a catch in that game. They were just moving the ball quickly. It was efficient. um you know They even had like Malik Washington get in on a rushing touchdown on the opening drive. That's where I really thought this game was going to be just wide open. But eventually, it just turned into a defensive battle.
00:03:11
Speaker
And the Miami Dolphins came out on top of a defensive battle. It was a very impressive performance from the team. Very impressive. That is the eighth time in Sean McVay's eight seasons there that they haven't scored a touchdown. They had scored 76 points in their last three games, which were all wins. And the Dolphins just made all of that null. They got their first third down conversion late in the third quarter.
00:03:37
Speaker
The Rams went three for 12 in the whole game. ah That was really the story of it. They couldn't get a first down. They couldn't buy a first down. Jalen Ramsey has turned his season around. We were on him early in this season. ah He was clamping up Rams receivers. Chop Robinson's got a sack in the last two games each.
00:03:56
Speaker
They had 15 pressures on Stafford, four sacks, that's without Jalen Phillips. I mean, Callias Campbell is like in his 40th season in the NFL, and he had a sack, two pass deflections, and a QB hit in the first half alone. So the defense really, really rose to the occasion. I liked what Anthony Weaver did ah from a scheme standpoint. They really seemed to kind of just out puzzle McVeigh. like It's not often that Sean McVeigh gets out coached and I think he did get out coached in this game. um Really, really impressive performance by the Dolphins. We're talking about playoffs. They have the third easiest remaining schedule in the entire NFL. So the chips are kind of there, stacked their way to go and do this.

Playoff Prospects and Team Challenges

00:04:40
Speaker
194 teams in the Super Bowl era have started a season two and six.
00:04:44
Speaker
And only three have made the playoffs. So why not the fins? You know, why not us? Yeah, why not make it for the all facets of all facets of the game are going for the dolphins. Even your boy Jason Sanders made some crucial, crucial field goals going three for three on the night. We've been kind of he's just been an up and down guy's whole career. Basically, he senses what the dolphins kind of fun to poke fun at. um But yeah, he came through. He was great in that spot. It's I'm I'm pretty high on the dolphins if they can continue to put out what they did in Monday Not so high on the Rams right now They they just seem like a big-time Jekyll and Hyde team that you know, like you said 76 points in their last three games are on a three game winning streak
00:05:29
Speaker
felt like they were kind of turning the tide here a bit you know you got the dolphins at home they got to travel all the way to LA after a heartbreaking loss to a division rival it was a great spot for the Rams to win a game on Monday night and they maybe their worst performance of the year with all everyone healthy You know, you got Jared verse with the sack of force fumble, fumble recovery. Like the defense was solid. You only held the dolphins to 23 points knowing the Rams on offense. That should be enough that you can go out and and beat that point total. But I, I leave that game with more questions and answers from the Rams. I don't know about you. Yeah, so do I. And especially with not being able to get first downs, like your offense is built to be able to pass well, to be able to kind of chew up yards.
00:06:16
Speaker
like And Nakua looked good last night. like They had moments where their guys were getting open and I really thought the game was gonna break open their way. But they just felt like they were stalled on offense. like They really couldn't get anything going. And they have some tough games left on their schedule. They gotta play the Eagles in two weeks. They gotta play the Bills in four weeks. And they go Bills, 49ers, Jets, Cardinals, Seahawks. So those aren't you know all fantastic teams, but they are all good teams, maybe the Jets aside.
00:06:44
Speaker
um But they are going to have an uphill climb

Player Concerns and Tactical Analysis

00:06:47
Speaker
here. we We were just so high on them, Patrick. We were talking, you know, division winners, making the playoffs. We were talking about the odds for their Super Bowl. And now I really, you're right. This was a standstill game for them where you're really questioning, you know, what this team has. They look like the Rams that started the season.
00:07:06
Speaker
Yeah, and I mean, this game almost counts as two losses with what we saw the the two other division teams in the NFC West that played. They both got wins to kind of extend their lead on the division over the Rams. Seahawks had to buy, so they didn't lose any ground to the Rams. And it was just not not a great performance from them, especially when you know like they were in a good spot, like I said, and all the momentum was going their way. And then it was just their offensive line. It felt like, you know how many pressures did you mention? it was 15, 15. Yeah. It was just Stafford was under pressure all night. They couldn't really run the ball. Like I'm sure they wanted to, uh, Karen Williams was 60 just over 60 yards. It's, it's just not a great performance from them that now they have to go to new England, which kind of feels like a little bit of a trap spot. One team's kind of going in the right way and then the Rams kind of losing in direction a little bit. Um, but yeah, it was a great performance from the dolphins.
00:08:02
Speaker
I was a little worried about our boy Tua on that tackle after the interception. It wasn't the greatest form. It reminded me a little bit of Ryan Shazier on that tackle, but ah he seemed to take it better than I expected.
00:08:14
Speaker
He's a maniac, dude. Like, it tackling head first, like, what are you doing, man? Like, it's such a head scratcher. And then he looked kind of off after that because he was fumbling a lot. He was holding on to the ball. He actually looked like Tua, like, in his in his sophomore season when, like, the big knock on Tua was that he didn't get rid of the ball fast enough. He kind of reverted back to that a bit last night. But, man, he's got the Frozone mask on. He's diving head first. He got hit in the head with a knee on that play, like,
00:08:43
Speaker
it he has a brick wall of a head like it's in terms of being able to get a message through to him of just like don't don't make that tackle I also find it just peak irony that A-Chain wears the Guardian cap and he's just lined up with him in the backfield every play. it just It always makes me chuck a little bit, but I mean, Tua can do whatever he wants. I just wouldn't recommend throwing your head into a guy's knee after what you've been through. um I like that the offensive game plan tried to get Waddle involved. He was a ah ah bit of a lost
00:09:14
Speaker
lost presence in that ah offense. He had the one poor drop, which was unfortunate. But he finished the game with three receptions, 57 yards. And I mean, they finally got Tyreek in the end zone again. So maybe that can kind of spark something on the offense. But you know this is something the Dolphins need to build off of and just continue to try and find a way to win games going forward.
00:09:32
Speaker
Absolutely. One last thing on this game. I want to talk coaching. We mentioned McVeigh got out coached in this game. The first one is he goes for a fourth field goal to make a one score game, a one score game with six and a half minutes left to play. Dolphins just go down the field, kill about four minutes of clock and kick their own field goal to make it a two score game. That seemed like rookie head coaching shit. Like, that one was questionable to me.
00:09:58
Speaker
you're just never gonna win a game without a touchdown. it's This game was, it you but how many, it was quick math, five field goals from the Rams, and it was just, you're not gonna win a game like that, especially with a Dolphins team that is looking much better on offense with two of back. Yeah, it was scared coaching, especially when you were,
00:10:19
Speaker
you know what were they on the three like they're inside the five I believe it was a fourth and gold that's the next one this one they were at the 19 so still in the red zone like they were very firmly in the red zone the next one Patrick am I stupid or was that stupid They kick the field goal with 39 seconds left on the three yard line. Well, that, that's the one that what I was just like, well, what is, what are we doing here? It's like, it almost was like he didn't want to score a touchdown. He was trying to prove a point where he could win just off of field goals. And it was on third down. Yeah, it was weird. It was, it was, it was a weird coaching decision. ah You needed to score it. Like you needed a touchdown. You would argue that you would get the touchdown while you're at the three yard line.
00:11:01
Speaker
then recover the onside kick and they still had a timeout could go and try and march for a long field goal. Yeah, it's hard to move down the field and get into spots like you were in in that spot. And especially with the onside kick rules now, it's so much harder to get an onside kick. And even if you did, like you said, I don't think they had any timeouts really in that spot. You would have had to go, what, 40 yards or so to go get a touchdown when you really have you haven't been in the end zone all game. I don't know what would give them you know the the thought that they could just do that.
00:11:31
Speaker
I'm puzzling. Yeah, like you said, though, if if if you're going to kick a field goal to make a one score game, a one score game, who cares if you don't get a touchdown in that spot and it still stays a one score game? I don't know. It was some questionable decisions from McVeigh for sure. Very questionable decisions. We will move to the Sunday night football game in what was a silly, silly game. Lions, 26. Texans, 23.
00:11:56
Speaker
Jake Bates makes a 52 yarder with about a hair, a hair close of hitting the uprights for a doink as time expires and the Lions overcome five Jared Goff interceptions to move to 8-1 with a perfect 5-0 record on the road.
00:12:14
Speaker
Did you take more from the Lions in this game, or did you take more away from the Texans in this game, Patrick? Here's what I'm taking away from this game. And it's not necessarily a reflection on either team. I don't know what quarterback play is in the NFL this season. We we had Jared Goff as as a top three MVP candidate. I think that's a say for sure top five. Yep.
00:12:37
Speaker
He's going in at just an elite completion percentage. He's finding ways to get the touchdowns just so efficient. Their winning games are getting the run game going. So now Jared Goff has to do a little bit more in this game. And you he throws it 30 times, a little bit more than he usually does. And he goes out there and throws five interceptions.
00:12:57
Speaker
that Those numbers are are astronomical. And then you get CJ Stroud, who in the first half looked back to his old self. He looked amazing in that first half. They had 23 points in the first half. And then he goes out, I believe it was the opening play of the second half, and just throws an interception immediately. Then on his second one, he had the guy open for about four seconds, waits, waits, waits, waits, throws it to the guy too late, picked off again.
00:13:26
Speaker
the quarterback play in this league is uh is down i think to say the least it just i don't know it feels like there's only five great it's like lamar jackson's playing great i'd say josh allen's having a great season jarrigoff was up until this performance but like cj strapped down and there's so many other quarterbacks around the league that are just not performing to the level that we expect them to. So I came away from this game just just questioning everything. And in the era that we kind of grew up in watching the quarterbacks play, they must be shaking their heads even more than we are because they I don't know. It was just a bit of a ah just the game got silly. Like you said, it it was just a silly game that, you know, some team had to win. And Jesse Bates went or not Jesse Bates. That's that's the Falcon safety. Jake Bates went from selling bricks in in Houston to nailing game winning field goals in Houston.
00:14:17
Speaker
Collins worth after that second last field. goal He's not selling bricks anymore oh and And like that I I would hate to have that like follow me around kind of national broadcast um But he's clearly cemented himself I would say with his performance so far this year as a kicker on any team like it regardless if he stays with the Lions or not somebody will pick him up um but to me the zero half points for The te or zero second half points from the Texans to me was shocking. like What they did well on in the first half was making Goff pay for his mistakes. like They were scoring try or putting together scoring drives on pretty much every interception that Goff threw. They got touchdowns out of it. They got field goals out of it. And then their second half possessions goes interception, punt, interception, punt, punt, punt, miss field goal.
00:15:09
Speaker
So they just they couldn't do anything. They were. I mean, Jared Goff still had an interception in the second half and they just couldn't do anything with getting the ball back. ah They lose for the third time in four games.
00:15:21
Speaker
It I mean they still have an easy. so They have an easy schedule to finish the season. ah The AFC South sucks. They will win that division, but now I feel like teams are like would be licking their lips to get the Texans in the playoffs like regardless of whether they're at home or not. They need um Nico Collins back so badly.
00:15:40
Speaker
Yeah, this was a game where Joe Mixon, who's kind of been carrying their offense in the absence of Nico Collins, really struggled. Probably his worst game this season so far, 25 rushing yards, 25 rushing attempts for 46 rushing yards. Ended up getting a touchdown and did okay in the receiving game with 44 yards. But they just need more and they're missing Nico Collins. It's so evident. ah he you know Stroud just doesn't have the,
00:16:06
Speaker
chemistry, the relationships and just the the history that he has with Collins. And, you know, he was starting to find something with Diggs. Diggs is out for the year. They're, you know, they're on to Tank Dell now. They know that he's clearly the number one without those two. So they can put extra attention on him. But it was nice to see John Metchie, Canadian, ah battle leukemia, winner. He beat leukemia, scored his first touchdown, had five receptions for 74 yards in this game.
00:16:33
Speaker
There are some bright spots for the Texans to take away from this game, but I mean, you can't have moral victories when you you come in with Super Bowl aspirations to the season. You're building what a lot of people would say was a top three offense in the NFL, adding stuff on digs and Joe Mixon, and you have what looked to be a great quarterback in CJ Stroud.
00:16:52
Speaker
They got some problems, man. they They got some problems. But the good thing is, like you said, week division, week ish schedule coming down the stretch. They should make the playoffs, but they need to just bolster this offensive line a little bit and then just find a way to just when Nico Collins comes back, hopefully the offense just doesn't skip a beat and they go back to where they were. But I don't know. This this is a playoff team that's not showing that their playoff caliber right now.
00:17:18
Speaker
Yeah, they're offensive line skates by the national media of getting criticism. Stroud gets pummeled, dude, like every game he's running for his life. He takes bad sacks. One of the guys tried to strip him of the ball. That was insane. I thought Mike Trico was going to have a heart attack. Like he was losing his mind. um But yeah, bright spot of this game. John Metchie brother to Argo Royce Metchie, which we will get to later. um But to just wrap it up, the Lions seven straight wins. I mean,
00:17:47
Speaker
You talk about similar to the Chiefs, good teams find a way to win games in different ways. This was kind of a another case of that. ah Laporta gets going. Amun Raw adds another TD. He sets a new franchise mark with seven straight games with TDs. um So they're going to put this one in the rearview. They're going to scrap the game tape from this. They get Jacksonville next week. So it's like they're just going to keep rolling here. I think that I would be shocked if the Lions aren't the one seed in the NFC.
00:18:16
Speaker
Yeah, I don't know who's going to compete with them in the NFC. I guess you'd say the Eagles right now, maybe the 49ers with McCaffrey if they can kind of get things going. But that's a big like reputation kind of a pick that I'm giving the 49ers there. And then you got commanders and Vikings, which feel like they might be a tier below those those two teams that we've mentioned. So yeah, it's it's the Lions control their own destiny here. I mean, they should get the one seed. They do have to play a tougher division schedule in some of those other teams. But from what I'm seeing, it it feels like they're ah they're destined for for the one seed for sure. I agree. We will move now to the most exciting game, I would say, of the one o'clock slate on Sunday.
00:18:59
Speaker
patrick We have updated the vibe check on the Steelers after every win I would say over the last three or four episodes You circled this one on the calendar and they delivered Steelers 28 commanders 27 Where are you at with the Steelers after this one?
00:19:16
Speaker
Just just an excited guy man. you You can't take anything for granted in this league. I'm trying to stay grounded I think it's next week is the game that I if they find a way to win Then it's then it's dangerous the the words that will be coming out of my mouth, but I'm staying ah Grounded in this one. It was a great win though it Washington far and away the toughest team the Steelers have played this season Jaden Daniels and Definitely the best quarterback the Steelers have seen this season But it was it was a great complete effort and I believe that to serve the season Damien I made a statement that if if the Steelers games go under They will win if the Steelers games go over they will lose but you can just throw that out that that that doesn't exist anymore This is a new team with Russell Wilson. They can score points. ah They went down 24 14 to start the second half and and there is a part of me that thought it was over just because of the past dealers teams like scoring that many points coming back in the second half but this is a third quarter second half team that's been able to make adjustments all year long i believe they have the highest the best point differential in the third quarter
00:20:21
Speaker
And they just find ways to win games. It feels like there's a mojo going on. And then it was really nice to see Mike Williams, his only catch of the day, you know, still like learning the playbook. Uh, he only came in because Calvin Austin had to leave the game with a concussion and boom, the Russ, the rusty moon ball to the, to the left corner of the end zone. It was great to see. And yeah, just, just a really encouraging gritty win from the Steelers.
00:20:46
Speaker
it's crazy how good he is at those deep balls still like the trajectory of that ball like it just drops on a dime when you think that it should sale 15 yards over the end zone and just falls directly into his arms his ninth snap as a stealer he gets a 32 yard game winner for Mike Williams that I loved seeing that um three touchdowns for us. Like you're right. This offense just looks completely invigorated. um George Pickens just a ridiculous catch for that touchdown early in this game. The big boy tight ends got to work.
00:21:19
Speaker
Like rush catching, blocking, they got 140 yards rushing. A couple of mistakes in this game. the The fake punt dropped by James Beare, tough. Very tough. Mike Tomlin said he'd do it again. um ah The no progress call on Jalen Warren, one of the craziest things I've seen so far this season.
00:21:39
Speaker
Yeah, it was frustrating, especially because they they had no problem kind of blowing it dead all all game long. And then you you get a small, not even, if it's not, you kind of give him, well, it gets a little bit of benefit of the day. He's a massive running back. Jill Warren's a small little boy out there. He he was getting tackled by about four guys going sideways to backwards for about three to five yards.
00:22:01
Speaker
I saw them come away with the ball you know after the whistle and I was just kind of laughing. I was like, well, what are they doing? like That's blown dead. That's forward progress every time. Unreviewable. Yeah. That's another one where they just throw that at you. Unreviewable forward progress. Okay. So it is what it is. That was another one where it just felt like the bounces, right? James Piers dropping that one, like you mentioned, right at the first down marker. The fumble goes against Russi with an arm pun earlier in the game as well. Felt like the everything was kind of going the commander's way. And then we had that fourth down spot in in a crucial time in the game. we We love a questionable spot with even even worse camera angles. Just no definitive angle there. It was unbelievable how you don't have a camera down the line.
00:22:43
Speaker
I don't know what they got going on in in what used to be FedEx Field. I forget what they call it now. But dude, there was no camera w angle. So you just had to go off the spot. And the spot was questionable at best. But I don't know. that was and then oh And then the the the jump on on the fourth and one, I feel bad for that guy. Rookie, like a second rounder. He's been having a good season. and And I think everyone except for him knew what was going on there.
00:23:11
Speaker
he got excited i you don't see those dude you don't see those happen like you never see a team successfully bait another team on a fake fourth down or in the in the CFL you see it all the time on a fake third down I was shocked Johnny Newton tough tough and he knew it right away like just hands-on surrender Cobra immediately Uh, commanders similarly had a lot of mistakes in this game, a lot of drop balls. Uh, they had been 11 for 11 on fourth down throughout the season until that Zachar. It's a questionable spot. We'll say, um, yeah, just too many wasted chances. They blew a 10 point lead.
00:23:49
Speaker
They kind of turned what could have been a great win into a tough loss. Jane Daniels has the worst game of his career so far. He faced a real ass defense, only 242 yards total for the Washington offense. So they didn't do enough in that game. I thought to deserve to win it, especially in the second half.
00:24:07
Speaker
Terry McClellan shredded the Steelers defense like that was their bright spot. And that is, I guess, a concern for the Steelers. It felt like the middle of the field was open for most of the game. Jaden Daniels played a little bit better than a stat line would indicate. he He didn't turn the ball over. He was throwing the ball away when there was ah in immediate pressure on him. He was just making right decisions. But you like you said, probably the best defense they've played all year.
00:24:30
Speaker
They were kind of gifted a touchdown after that fake punt. and It was first in goal right away. So that was a kind of a freebie. The commanders, that that's a game where they're they're in a tough spot where they can't even think about it. And that was an emotional loss. ah And you know now you got to go short week. You're playing a division rival for the lead in the division against Philly. it It's a tough spot. Like this is what we're about to find out with the commanders. Are they a real team or were they a product of an easy schedule to start the year?
00:24:59
Speaker
I don't know. I was encouraged by what I saw from the commanders. I don't think they're on an elite team, but I still think what I saw out of that team was it was a playoff team. It's tough to face Tallman after a buy as well, who is now 14 and four after a buy and has won eight straight off a buy. So it's just they were in a tough spot there, yeah you know, and then it was basically a home game on the road for the Steelers in in Washington. But the commanders, you can't dwell on this one. yeah You got to go and you got to move out and you got to win a big one on Thursday night.
00:25:28
Speaker
Yeah, we're we're definitely gonna find out what they're made of here. Huge, huge game on Thursday night at the Eagles. You gotta go to the link. You gotta go and try and win a huge, huge divisional game against a team who, by all accounts, is gunning for that first spot in the division.
00:25:44
Speaker
ah tests though for the pittsburgh next week you mentioned it they got to go play the ri ravens at home i and that that's another huge game like that it it is a matchup where i actually i don't hate the steelers in especially with how the ravens past defense has looked ah the Steelers defense is going to have to kind of live up to their name in that one and really try and throw everything at at Lamar Jackson and Derek Henry. ah They got a tough, tough finish to the season too. They finished with Ravens Chiefs Bengals. So the Bengals, I think at that point of the season, they seem like they're never going to give up. So that'll, you know, be a hard game division game. um But they're going to have a a tough stretch to finish the season to try and
00:26:24
Speaker
still try and lead that division. Yeah, six division games. They still haven't played one and then Eagles and Chiefs. So yeah aside from the two games against the Browns are playing what I think a lot of people will consider really good teams. Maybe the Bengals, the jury's still out on them, but you know, they can still put up points.
00:26:41
Speaker
Yeah, it's a tough schedule. That's why getting this one is huge. Moving to seven and two yeah feels like, Hey, you know, just got to win three more and you're in the playoffs pretty much. Uh, so yeah, it was just an encouraging hard fought win hurts to lose Alex Highsmith, but that's why you, you know, you go out and you make a trade for Preston Smith. Looks like Nick Herbig is going to be back next week. So they should be still productive off the edge. Yeah. I'm excited to get, get to the division play and just kind of see where they're at against ah Baltimore and Cincinnati.
00:27:09
Speaker
Yeah, I hope they they beat the Ravens. So we get a some reckless talk from you. But you mentioned the Kansas City Chiefs. That's where we'll go. Chief 16 Broncos 14 Kansas City stays undefeated and moves to nine and oh on a last second blocked field goal.
00:27:27
Speaker
because of course they did. If if you watch this game, you were just waiting the entire time for the Chiefs to eventually win it. um But in that last drive for the Broncos, I actually started to believe that they would lose. The Broncos did everything right there. They drained the clock, they set up the field goal, time expiring, and Leo Chanel just pancakes somebody. Yeah, I don't even want to name them. Pancakes, ah Denver's left tackle, and just that That's that's such a Chiefs win man. I'm almost speechless after that one Did you know they've had flukey wins kind of we've seen this year the Isaiah likely the you know out by half an inch on week one and then it just continues the domino meme to brought field goal um and in in a game where they should have lost it felt like you said Denver was making all the right moves and converting on every third down on that last drive all the momentum was there you're you're on the road in kansas city it's a perfect spot for rookie bow nicks rookie bow nicks to go into arrowhead and beat the undefeated chiefs in a division game
00:28:34
Speaker
And then just of course, of course the field goal gets blocked. The chiefs have a juju going to them this year where it's, you know, they've won 15 straight going back to last year. They're, they're looking for a three Pete and they're just, they haven't had a good game yet. And I can't believe I'm saying that. And they're nine and oh, and they win in, in a different way every single week.
00:28:56
Speaker
I don't know what to say about them i can't say if you know do you respect it because i find ways to win every week are they a the biggest fluke that we've ever seen it's tough i don't know what to make of these this chief's team and i guess we're never really gonna know until the playoffs get there and they just.
00:29:12
Speaker
have to consistently find ways to win these greasy ways but you know Andy Reid this is when you know the Chiefs are all-time cocky right now it's in the post game he goes ah he indicated that they took advantage of something they had seen in the Broncos field goal operation Um, you know, but it's something we work on like crazy and normally doesn't work quite like that one. So Andy Reed's basically taken all the credit for that play saying they spotted something in the defense or on the special team. Sorry. I don't know, but the chiefs just find a way to win another one. When it felt like Denver should have had this Denver always plays the chiefs close to it just felt like a bone next upset special ruined by the Kansas city chiefs.
00:29:56
Speaker
Yeah, and Denver played a great game. Like they had a fantastic first half, certainly not as good of a second half, um but you know, Bonix is hitting Devon Vale. New name I learned this week. ah Courtland Suttons getting 32 yard touchdown passes. ah You know, they're still sitting in the seven seed in that final playoff spot, but man, if you're a Broncos fan, this one has to hurt. And you're right. If you're a Chiefs fan, you're just on an all time like cocky level right now.
00:30:25
Speaker
ah The trio on offense still like they didn't have an amazing game Kelsey Hopkins and hunt I'm i'm gonna call him now that trio ah They had a pretty good game um But again, they just they find ways like Denver goes up 14 to 3 Mahomes go 7 for 7 for 62 yards They go for it on 4th and hit Kelsey for a touchdown like it's right when they need the biggest plays they find them I I lean towards that being kind of the mark of a good team Like I that's kind of where I side with it right now Interesting penalty discussion in this one. Patrick Mahomes caught on one of the funniest hot mics of all time asking the ref to point out if a defensive player is about to sack him. even though It was so clear the broadcast commented on it. like that That was nuts. you can't You can't be doing that. Devils advocate.
00:31:16
Speaker
Refs do that in the NHL and hockey. When you're like taking a pass, they go, hey, heads up, heads up. you know Get your head up. Look out. He's coming. So so there there is some of that. ah It just sucks that it's my home. You know what I mean? like if If Matthew Stafford says that, I don't think anyone bats an eye.
00:31:32
Speaker
but you know it's the homes and they're they're subject to a lot of criticism that the chiefs and in officiating so of course it's just such a polarizing subject and people are as as they should why not just run with it and see where it goes Yeah, a lot of arguments about penalties on Twitter. I saw one guy bring up NFLpenalties.com. I was having some fun on there. ah The Chiefs are 20th in beneficiary penalties, which you would not, you know, guess that given the discourse. Would you guess who's first in beneficiary penalties, Patrick?
00:32:06
Speaker
Buffalo Bills? question mark Buffalo Bills with 77 to the Chiefs 58. So if there's anybody who's getting some some penalty calls, it's the Buffalo Bills. ah But yeah, just you can almost not really take a ton from this one other than the Chiefs just find another way to win. I think everybody is already looking ahead to next week where they go to Buffalo. like it would be so cheap so for them to win all these games like this and be in like kind of a low spot even though they're 9 and 0 and then just go kill the bills. Yeah, bills are slightly bigger than that one.
00:32:43
Speaker
Yeah, it would be so so Kansas City. it It is right. Everyone's doubting them. Definitely their biggest test of the year coming up. And then you and especially like, you know, bills have some injuries going right now. So it feels like everything is just lining up for this chief's team this year to find a way. Everyone's, you know, circling the bills ah and possibly the Steelers on Christmas Day as their two losses. I think they somehow drop one in the division. I the Chiefs are are subject to losing divisional games. This was one they should have had.
00:33:13
Speaker
It should have been a loss. It feels like the chief, like the Raiders play them tough. The Chargers, they seem to always kind of falter against them. But I think the Broncos or Raiders, they're going to give them a ah battle down the stretch here again. And I mean, if we're looking at the Broncos taking something away from this game, I'm starting to become a bow next guy.
00:33:31
Speaker
No, yeah it sure not dude, his last six games, he's got nine touchdowns and only two interceptions. And like they've got the Broncos in a playoff spot. I mean, the the toughest part of the schedule is still yet to come. So I think the jury's still out on what this Broncos team is.
00:33:49
Speaker
But dude, he's for sure the second best quarterback out of this rookie class so far. And I mean, if Jayden Daniels, he's also got to play the toughest part of his schedule come down the stretch. I think it's still a race for the offensive rookie of the year. Jayden Daniels certainly still leading it, certainly. But I think that it's it's not over going down the stretch here in the second half of the season.
00:34:08
Speaker
I hate to admit he's a lot more likable in a Broncos uniform very smiley guy so I'm leaning that way I'm not all the way there yet you know part of me is like he should be good he's 28 or whatever but yeah it's a yeah I see where you're coming from there um We will move off of this game though to 49ers 23 Buccaneers 20 the 49ers avoid disaster and the Bucks lose their fourth game in a row Story of this game was Jake Moody missing three field goals Deebo Samuel choking the long snapper tabor pepper not Taylor pepper tabor and Baker Mayfield toying with Nick Bosa, but
00:34:50
Speaker
49ers needed this one but badly and they got it that this is another game where if you're the 49ers You probably write off a lot of this game, but all you care about is the fact that you want it Yeah, and and McCaffrey looked you know fine, right? like And it's only going to get better, I would assume. He struggled to run the ball a little bit, I guess, would be the critique on McCaffrey, 13 rushes for 39 yards. But you know just so versatile in the receiving game, 6 receptions, 68 yards. No touchdowns, but I mean, no cause for concern. First game back after and for first game this entire year. So it's only crazy that his mag game is over 100 all purpose still.
00:35:28
Speaker
Yeah. know And that's, and that's what I was talking about with like Jordan Mason doesn't give you that. He might be able to give you a hundred rushing yards, but just the dynamic of McCaffrey free and other people up. We saw Ricky Pearsall. That's another couple of good stories from wide receivers this week in the NFL. He had a, he had a 46 yard touchdown reception first of his career. We, ah you know, he was shot ah to begin the year.
00:35:50
Speaker
Yeah, it's it's so funny dude the broadcast is like Ricky Pearsall who was shot like it's just the same thing It's yeah, it's like they can't they they try and put like a positive spin on it then it's just like it Shot comes across so harsh every time you hear it you go. What it always just stops you in your tracks. So that was a good story uh Tampa man Tampa plays their ass off every single week and I can't help but fall for this team a little bit and feel bad. They've had four straight losses. They had the loss ah to Baltimore. That was by 10 points, but their last three losses were all by one score without their top two receivers. like They're yeah in every single game and then something just goes wrong where they just can't get past the finish line and get a win. But i I'm a believer in this team. I think they're way better than their record indicates.
00:36:40
Speaker
And I don't know. they're They're in a tough spot going forward in the NFC trying to make the playoffs. But I'm not I'm not out on the Buccaneers at all. I still like them more than the Falcons like yeah they play harder than the Falcons. They put together better game plans than the Falcons. And it sucks that they lost, you know, that game against them because I still like this team to win this division. Like you're right. There's so much to like about this team. Kate Ottens playing his ass off Baker Mayfield playing his ass off.
00:37:09
Speaker
Nick Bosa, dude, he's tackling him out of bounds. He's stiff-arming Nick Bosa. And they zoom in, Nick Bosa's smiling. It's like, I don't know what's going on with him, but like, Baker Mayfield had some all-world plays in that game. Problem was, the 49ers, to their credit, just kept responding. Like, it when they needed it, you're you're missing three field goals in a game and they're still finding ways to just move move down the field and score. Like, they closed this game out very well.
00:37:37
Speaker
Yeah, Brock Purdy turned it up in the second half. He is 25 at 36, 353 yards and two touchdowns. Safe to say the early concerns we may have had about Brock have kind of ah diminished a bit for sure. He seems to be back to where he was in his last year. it You know, the Jake Moody thing, it was tough, right? Because he was three of six on field goals, but he kicks the game winner. So he ends it on a high note. You mentioned a Deebo's choke in the long snapper on long on live TV.
00:38:07
Speaker
It seems like that room's a bit of a mess somehow, but it feels like that will never, like their culture never seems to leave the room. You know what I mean? They seem to be pretty good on keeping it inside, but yeah, they've got a lot of personalities on that team and I don't know how well they mix. Maybe we got a little bit of taste of that on Sunday.
00:38:27
Speaker
Yeah, it's you know they doubled tam they almost double Tampa's ah offensive yards, 413 to 215. The 49ers outplayed them, but the Bucks just find a way to stay in games and they they give themselves a chance in in almost every fourth quarter that they find themselves in. um Sorry to anyone else that got you know screwed by the Jalen McMillan.
00:38:49
Speaker
injury report fiasco, oh he's healthy all week, he's healthy all all week, off the injury report Friday, just off of it, not even questionable, not even probable, off of it, doesn't play a snap. So yeah, I got caught up in that, it's a shame, but um I want them investigated immediately.
00:39:06
Speaker
immediately it i i don't know where i land on that debo samuel thing like half the internet seems to think that that it was the right move it's like richard sherman i'm gonna maybe side with the with the football players on this one they're saying like no he absolutely should be able to be held accountable and it's like all right like that's not exactly what he did like You didn't just tell him to lock in like he put hands on a guy Yeah, you got to handle us up in the lock room like internally at halftime You want to choke them sure go ahead, but you can't be doing that on live TV It was weird because I think he was yelling at Modi the long snapper goes like step in and back up some Unbelievable unbelievable stuff. You you can't that like that's yeah reality TV right there. Yeah
00:39:53
Speaker
That that is why you watch NFL Sundays right there, but moving to another NFC South matchup Saints 20 Falcons 17 interim head coach Darren the Rizzler Rizzi Gets a true interim bump as the Saints got out a win against the Falcons Patrick We have said this exact sentence on this show multiple times. Who are the Falcons man? I don't get it they They just pick and choose. they They just go, I feel like it this week. I i don't feel great this week. And then, you know, the their kicker who may be the quickest ah and kicker we've seen a long time to just get crowned as an elite kicker who's fallen off a cliff. a young Young Wei Ku missed three kicks in this game and they lose by a field goal.
00:40:44
Speaker
I don't, you know, maybe, maybe we they, the, maybe Darnell Mooney's got to go and choke the long snapper on the Falcons to send a message because that's rough. And then Arthur blanks, Scott is like arm around his shoulder, they're walking off the field, weird vibes in Atlanta. This is a game where they could have just really, really stamped their mark on the division. Basically could have started printing the home playoff tickets at this point.
00:41:07
Speaker
and they go and they lose to the New Orleans Saints who had no pulse at this point and shame on me shame on me for going against the Rizzler I should have known better and as the week was going on I started to get really bad vibes from that game but you know credit to him he had he had Marquez Valdez Scantling who I forgot was still in the league looking like an all-pro three receptions 109 yards and two touchdowns and man you know credit to them he seemed to breed some life into this uh into the Saints team and you know i don't know how long this interim bump's gonna last but at least you can say you beat a division rival
00:41:43
Speaker
Yeah, like who who is MVS prime Randy Moss like three receptions one oh nine two TDs. It was ridiculous. ah They got Alvin Kamara going again. One hundred and nine yards from scrimmage became the franchise's all time leader in rushing yards. Also, maybe had the worst drop ball of the entire season. Like they still had a chance to get back in this game and then chase young sacks and strips Kirk Cousins like vintage vintage Kirk Cousins late in this game that the sacks the strip sack
00:42:14
Speaker
ah The the check down pass to Ray Ray McLeod on fourth down with the game on the line like You know Vikings fans did the Leo DiCaprio meme like I've seen that before i And he wasn't even that bad in this game like he he wasn't great, but they out gained New Orleans 468 yards to 365 yards um But still allowing 365 like we've we have talked at end about this Falcons defense. They're not good Yeah, Jared verse would look really good off the edge on this team. You know, no kidding, like but bet panics is chilling on that bench. He's, he's rocking the hell out of that Jersey on the bench, man. He, that Jersey is so clean every week. They're going to look so good when he frames them in his basement. Yeah. Sometimes you can blame a game on a kicker. It's okay.
00:43:03
Speaker
Yeah. Um, yeah. Here's the spin zone though. We've seen Tyler Bass, his struggles early in, in, in that game against Miami, they sent him out game on the line, 61, 62 yards, forget exactly along. He nails it. They had what? It was like 18 seconds, no timeouts.
00:43:20
Speaker
I think that's enough time to go get set and kick a 60-yarder. I think they should have just sent him out because he wouldn't have been able to think about it. Would it have just been going through the motions? who like Who knows? I think what they did with Darnell Mooney was so sad that you know if you go out swinging with Young Way Koo,
00:43:38
Speaker
Worst case, you cut him after the game if he misses it and goes one for five. like yeah I don't know. I would know. I like that. Yeah. Just send him out there. He couldn't think about it. You're in a dome. Like he he has enough like for 60, 60 yards. Just, just something to think about. I like that a lot. I, I, that's a good comparison to make there. Cause they really, they were clearly rattled by that. That was maybe, you know, Raheem Morris kind of slip up there. They were far too. Like you weren't,
00:44:05
Speaker
you weren't marching, it's just a bad end of that game. If you're a Falcons fan, you gotta be pissed off with that one. um But we'll move to Bills 30, Colts 20. The score looks a lot closer than it ever really was in this one. Buffalo forces four turnovers on Joe Flacco.
00:44:22
Speaker
And surprise, surprise, the Bills beat up on a team without a winning record. I mean, like it's I'm putting the Bills back on fraud watch. they We're back. It's now leading up to the Chiefs game. If they lose this Chiefs game, they've lost every game to a team with a winning record and beat every team with a losing record. So it's their peak fraud watch right now.
00:44:43
Speaker
I'm going to stay away. I'm going to stay away. This is Deimos battle and and I respect that. I'm going to stay away. I think the bills are a solid team. They made Flacco look like just the worst quarterback of all time in this game. Started with the pick six on the first drive. Then they start getting momentum and I'm like, okay, we're in for a shootout in this game. And I mean, 50 points total. It was pretty high scoring game.
00:45:05
Speaker
There was another interception. And then you got Jonathan Taylor just gashing this bill's defense. And then right when you get into the end zone, you're sorry, the red zone, you stop running the ball. and what What is the game planning of this Colts team? There's this is this is a fall from grace for this Colts team. And I thought they were like up to something. I thought they were going to be a frisky team, maybe competing for the AFC South title, especially with how the Texans have played as of late.
00:45:32
Speaker
And they just keep dropping games and they're two and three in their last five lost three in a row now. You know, and then you still got the quarterback thing looming over that team. I don't know what's going on in that locker room, but there's something extremely off with this cold team Damien. And I mean, you're four and six now. I guess you're still one game out of the wild card spot, but I mean, Cincinnati's behind you. I like Cincinnati a lot more than the Colts.
00:45:59
Speaker
they They got problems and they got to figure it out really quick. Otherwise their season could be over. Yeah, you mentioned Jonathan Taylor like 100 yards in the first half and then he winds up with 21 carries for 114 yards like they they were playing from behind. So I kind of get that to a certain extent, but You know that then you'll play the Jets next week and I feel like that's just a perfect spot for the Jets to then slightly look alive again like the Jets beat up on a cold steam like they they are really Jekyll and Hyde as well but but much more towards Hyde right now because they have looked awful dude six turnovers in two starts for flaco
00:46:38
Speaker
Like put but put Anthony Richardson back in, I guess. i don't I really don't know. But then you lose, you really lose the room if you make that decision, right? Because then it's like the players win. They don't respect you as a coach. And then it's like the coach looks like a loser too, because he's got he's going back and forth flip-flopping between quarterbacks. He doesn't seem to have a handle on on the NFL really yet.
00:47:02
Speaker
The Colts are in a really tough spot. daen That's why like if they go out there and Flacco beat the Bills, they would have been chilling. No questions about this team. Five and five with it with a huge win. Flacco's back to his old self. And now it's just there's a million questions surrounding this team. And you know maybe there's a million questions surrounding the Bills too. Maybe I took nothing away from this game, but I i still got to give credit to the Bills for forcing the turnovers.
00:47:29
Speaker
uh converting on on you know the turnovers of pick six getting a field goal off the second one i don't know i i think they're finding their offense a little bit concade was injured in that game noamari cooper and uh yeah i i think always look great dude yeah the the caveman the neanderthal is just finding his way in the end zone she cures a nice complementary piece i don't know how serious that concade injury is did you have any updates on that do you know he put a brace on and tried to get it back in the game and then he said it just didn't feel right like i i tend to be on the side where it's a bit worrying there like i don't know i'm sure they could you know shoot him up with some shit and he'll play against i wouldn't be surprised if he played against the chiefs um but that was like the last thing you wanted to see but especially in a game that was like kind of out of hand in this one to lose him
00:48:20
Speaker
Absolutely. But I think I think they're getting Josh Allen in the running game a little bit more. I think they told him first half this season, hey, don't do it. Now it's kind of like, let's go get a one seed, do everything in your power to win games. You know, we saw that he he ties ah the late O.J. Simpson for second most rushing touchdowns in Bill's history with 57. Yeah, I don't apologize for the win. They put the bills for 30 points against what I think is a pretty solid defense in in Indianapolis. Yeah.
00:48:50
Speaker
Yeah, 30 points for in four straight games, eight and two for the first time since 1993. Listen, if they win next week or even if it's close, even if that game is close, I will shut up for the rest of the season and that's on God. um But I just need to see it from the bills. I need to see it against a really good team. And the Chiefs are a perfect test for that. ah We will see that very, very quickly. um Yeah, they they need one of Coleman or Cooper back though for that game.
00:49:18
Speaker
Like that, that much is very sure um we will move now to the quick hit section, which there was a lot of this was a bit of a stinky Sunday. There was a lot of games not even worth watching, especially in the four o'clock slate. But we will start with a one o'clock game. Vikings 12 Jaguar 7. This is a baseball game, a score. I'm going to start by saying, are are we out on this Vikings team? I feel like I'm a bit out on this Vikings team.
00:49:45
Speaker
I can't call them a contender. I just know there's something in me. They're going to make the playoffs, right? There's seven and two now, and they've had some some greasy wins as of late. Sam Darnold seems to be reverting back to the Jets. Sam Darnold is that cause for concern yet? Three interceptions in this game all.
00:50:05
Speaker
the The game plan is so clear for the Vikings. It's just so force feed the ball to Justin Jefferson and all three of his interceptions were on throws to Justin Jefferson. So, you know, I think they figured it out as the game went on to maybe spread the ball a little bit. Hawkinson ended up with eight catches, 72 yards. That's going to be a nice piece for their offense going forward. But yeah, this is not the Viking scene that we saw in the first, what, five weeks when they started off five and oh, this is a, this is a different team that we've watched in the past four games.
00:50:34
Speaker
Yeah, they finished with three field goals in five trips inside the 20-yard line. It was just a bad game full of mistakes for them. a again I mean, part of me thinks that Jacksonville has slightly turned it up. like They're not as bad as their record shows, really. like Especially in the past few weeks, you know they almost beat Green Bay. like they They go out and and look kind of competent.
00:50:58
Speaker
Mac Jones, man. I mean, if Trevor Lawrence is in this game, they win the game, which is like a very bad thing to say, I would say. Well, that's what I was going to say. I was like, the Jacksonville Jaguars with Trevor Lawrence, I think, are are a frisky team. And I wouldn't call it like a great win, but it's a solid win if you beat the Trevor Lawrence led Jaguars. This is Mack Jones, baby. and he And he ran one in early. And and that it was that they it was he may as well have just vanished into thin air after that rushing touchdown. He he went 14 to 22, 111 yards and two interceptions. They had 143 yards of total offense.
00:51:33
Speaker
just just as insane poor performance from the Jaguars and like you said maybe anyone other than Mac Jones could have won this game it was yeah it was a touchdown and two field goals away and they just couldn't find a way to get any sort of points after that first drive so it's it was but it was tough tough Minnesota held the ball for 42 minutes to Jacksonville 17 I don't even know if I've seen a possession time that that far apart in an NFL game with my own eyes ah Doug Peterson 3 and 13 in his last 16 games just wolf like I I guess they're just holding on to him till the end of the year, but he's good is gone and
00:52:16
Speaker
they And they still have a ah tough schedule. like The Vikings play the Titans next week. They get you know the break there. Jacksonville has to go and play the Lions. Did you see that spread? Yes. yeah We will get to that later in our week. College spread in that game next week. If you're listening to this right now, if you want a good laugh and you don't want to have to wait, go go open the Fandal Corporation app and and take a look at it.
00:52:42
Speaker
um and The Vikings look off because the end they've been playing all AFC South opponents. That's why I think that I'm like very low on them because they haven't been playing you know heavy hitters either. What do you think the worst division is right now in the NFL?
00:52:57
Speaker
Good question, maybe. Give me give me five seconds here. I would say AFC East before this week, but then the Patriots beat the Bears and the Dolphins beat the Rams. I got the I the The Texans started off so hot, but ah they've yeah lost two in a row.
00:53:22
Speaker
The Colts have lost three in a row. The Jags have lost three in a row and the Titans are are the Titans. So the one team with the winning record in your division makes you the worst division in in the NFL for me. Yeah, I think that's where I'm settling on it to down down here for the AFC South. We move to Cardinals 31, Jets six. How about our Cardinals, Patrick? Our Cardinals fourth straight win scored touchdowns on four of their first five drives. Kyler Murray looked amazing in this one. 113 all purpose for James Conner. 239 to 85 advantage in total yards in the first half. They they looked like a a monster monster team in this game. Part of that is the Jets. But I took more away from the Cardinals in this one because the Jets defense still has a bit of teeth.

Feels good, we never wavered on this team. Four in a row, it's, ah you know, it's rewarding when you stick with a squad, they're leading the NFC West. Dude, they just dominated the Jets. That's all I just go, pure, utter domination. You mentioned it, four of the first five drives, finishing them off with touchdowns, 31 to six. It just doesn't get any worse for the Jets, but somehow every week, it's it's getting worse. And this was a game right where Cardinals have struggled to put winning streaks together. they They had won three in a row and it's just like, okay, are is this team just taking advantage of these games that they're having? Are they frauds? What what are they? And then on the other side, you got the Jets, right? It would have just been down, down, down the whole season. They go out on prime time and get a pretty big win over what most people thought is a good Texans team. So it's
00:55:10
Speaker
Is that what's going to turn the tide for the Jets this season? Are they going to go rip off a bunch of wins? They were a one and a half point favorite in this game. And they the Jets are who we thought they were. The Jets are who we thought they were. They are a horrible football team. Can can we officially throw them out? Like there's no reason to talk about them now, right?
00:55:30
Speaker
There really shouldn't be like they're they really shouldn't be and and I feel confident like if the Miami was to play the Jets next week I think they would demolish them and we historically have problems with the Jets like I I'm not even giving them the benefit of the doubt against a three-win team like the Dolphins right now They play the Colts on Sunday. Like I had mentioned how that might be a good comeback spot I don't feel great about them in that game. Like it it's it's a mess dude. They have I 49 million dollars in dead cap next season for Aaron Rodgers like we're not even near the end of this era too like it this saga to me only gets worse from here on out he had 151 yards they go for it on fourth and goal I don't know if you saw that he gets smoked from behind and just fumbles the ball every time Aaron Rodgers gets hit like that I fully expect him to just not get up like it like he might be dead on the field
00:56:26
Speaker
yeah Yeah, retirement feels like it's a second away from Aaron Rott at any point in the game. I truly don't understand why he still plays. he's He's really hurting his legacy here. yes He's got what? Four MVPs, a Super Bowl, Surefire, Hall of Famer, and and first ballot. Man, remember the takes ah probably less than five years ago?
00:56:47
Speaker
Aaron Rodgers, most talented quarterback ever, maybe not the greatest, but he's the best, most talented quarterback we've ever seen in the NFL. No, he ain't. He's he's not like, no, it's it's sad. And then he's just force feeding Devontae Adams in garbage time who ended up like 13 targets in this game just so he can make his buddy happy. It's it's sad. And it's a full on clown show in New York. Albrecht has no idea what he's doing. He's one and four as a head coach. It gets worse and worse for the Jets every week somehow.
00:57:16
Speaker
i can't believe they fired robert saula like it it looking back on it it's crazier and crazier with every loss he was two and three which is you know not great but it's so early in the season and he's a defensive head coach who knew how to understand the ah defense he seemed to be a leader of men I got that vibe from, I would respect to Robert Sulla and then Rogers is just running in the asylum. Rogers and and Woody Johnson are just going over people's heads and and getting them fired. It's a, it's a shame, man. And Sulla, you know, friends, friends get your places and LaFleur, I think brought him on in Green Bay to help out a little bit at the end of the season. So like good for him that he's, you know, on his feet again and doing something in the NFL.
00:58:01
Speaker
But yeah, I don't know, man, this like I said before, Olofsky mentioned it, possibly one of the worst acquisitions of all time in the NFL, bringing Aaron Rodgers to the Jets. It's so bad, man. We'll we'll go from one tire fire here to the next tire fire. Patriots 19, Bears 3. If you thought we were done doing insult stats, we're just getting going here. The Bears, man. 22 drives without a touchdown. They were one for 14 on third down in this game. Caleb Williams sacked nine times. He's now leader in the clubhouse with 37 sacks taken so far this year.
00:58:39
Speaker
i um' I've run out of things to say about the Bears. Iber Flus on on the radio on Monday goes, we do have evidence on tape that we've played good football this year. And that is maybe the funniest like head coach quote I've ever heard. Like it's like he has to convince us that the Bears are good. This team sucks.
00:58:59
Speaker
Yeah, no touchdowns in the past two weeks. Shane Waldron fired. ah So we'll see what what that does. Because Damien, I got some more insult stats. We're not done with the Bears. this We're having fun with this one. Shane Waldron is now the eighth member of Eberfluis' staff to be fired or resign in the past 14 months. And then here's another one. This one's from, ah this maybe isn't an insult stat, but this is just a little bit of ah a peek behind the curtain at what's going on.
00:59:25
Speaker
in that Bears lock room. This is from Sylvie of Waddle and Sylvie, big ah Chicago Bears radio host. After talking to a few people with knowledge of the situation, players went to Eber Flus and polls asking for a change at OC. They were obviously rewarded with that change. There have also been a few veterans requesting that Tyson Bajant starts at quarterback. So that's definitely DJ Moore, and then I don't know who else.
00:59:52
Speaker
it's crazy dude i i expected the waldron you know the firing and and because of course the bears fire and o c like they they do everything but fire maddie burfffluses here like i expected that I did not expect calls for Tyson Bage. Maybe you say you know that to keep his confidence to to protect Caleb Williams from getting sacked a zillion times a game, but part of me is like when I hear that it's like they want a different QB to throw the ball. like It's like not out of protection for Caleb Williams.
01:00:24
Speaker
yeah man and Listen, I'm not going to go on here and call Caleb Williams a bust. I think that, I think he has raw talent and I think it's just really not shining through. Shane Waldron was basically a Mac Canada junior. If you look at those routes, it was just DJ Moore's doing nothing out there. I understand why he's pissed off. Keenan Allen's not doing anything. And then Roma Dunsey.
01:00:43
Speaker
gets to seek all the benefits of the right trees and he's the wider the third wide receiver. Their offense made no sense. They have a poor offensive line, but I think good quarterbacks find a way to overcome a bad offensive line. Caleb has not been able to do that.
01:00:59
Speaker
It's, it's tough, man. And like you said, i I lean that it would be a confidence thing to pull them out as a quarterback, similar to like Bryce young, which is like, Hey man, just sit a couple of games. You've been getting killed out there. You're leading the league and getting sacked. Just take a week off, reset your mind. But Kayla Williams is such a like cocky, confident guy. Like he's texting his punter. You're not going to punt much this year. The punters got more yards than him this season. It's so bad in Chicago. And then on the flip side, Drake made Drake Baze 1-0 against Kayla Williams. He's looking fine. The Patriots seem to have a little bit of a bright outlook going forward. it's this is ah ah It boils down to franchises, man. And the Patriots know how to just find a way to be good enough and like not go all the way in and then the Bears are just a tire fire every year.
01:01:51
Speaker
It's such a difference. You're writing franchises and culture, right? Like you're you're looking at this Patriots team. There is like a bright shine to them. Shout out Jake Shulls. He was in the building for this one. Very glad to see him get that win there in person. He went. Drake may wins the lottery pick showdown.
01:02:07
Speaker
he He didn't light it up like 15 of 25 for 184 TD an interception You still see those kind of like silly mistakes in his brain on that interception But he like he knows what to do out there like he knows how to take care of the ball like 99% of the time and the Patriots are are still like Paying attention to detail in the other facets of the game like Gerard Mayo has clearly turned something around with this defense Special teams has looked good for them like the bears on even their special teams looks like shit like they they can't do anything and and and it only gets worse from here. Bears have six of their final eight games against the NFC North, starting with Green Bay's visit next week to Soldier Field. I guess, you know, they they're not sure if Jordan Love is going to play in that one, but that spread should be like the Jaguars spread. Like, I think it's like five and a half right now. Yeah, that ah it has to be because the Bears are at home. Maybe, maybe you get the the fired OC boost. Yeah, that could be a new one, but it's ah it's brutal. I just
01:03:10
Speaker
I'll be I'll pay attention. I'll watch the Bears this week. Try and notice if I see any noticeable changes on offense with the new OC, but I truly don't think that's going to fix their problems. I don't think it's going to hurt. I'll say that ah it's it's a whatever. It's a dust in the wind for me. Again, read a Shane Waldron, but there's there's more, you know, serious issues going on with the Bears aside from their OC right now.
01:03:35
Speaker
absolutely won't spend any more time on that we're almost out of insult stats here we're going over to germany panthers 20 giant 17 a game that giants fans are now probably just happy that they lost You see, I feel bad for Tyron Tracy Jr. You know, he that guy clearly still cares. He had a great game. He fumbles in overtime, which leads to the game winning field goal for the Panthers. Five straight losses for the Giants, Daniel Jones, man. He showed some signs of life in this one. He's still throwing the ball 37 times, but two interceptions, including a brutal, brutal red zone interception late in this game.
01:04:19
Speaker
Panther's five and a half was so free, man. like it that That was a pick I felt good about. Everybody was on the Giants. We're not in our pick segment yet, but um it I just took spikes of bad things from the Giants in this game and then Kind of a lot of good from the Panthers in this game. Chubba Hubbard gets the contract bump. like Rarely do you see guys sign a contract and then immediately ball out directly after afterwards. 153 yards and a touchdown. Bryce Young goes 15-25 for 126. A hundred and twenty six ah touchdown. He wins consecutive games for the first time. Good for the Panthers.
01:04:55
Speaker
good for the Panthers man that's what I come out of this game saying as well they've you know exceeded last year's win total already halfway through the season so it may seem like doom and gloom in Carolina but there are some positives they can take out of it you know Bryce Young had that hilarious ah reaction on the sidelines but it looks like he cares man and that's all that really matters he seems happy So I think as long as you have Bryce Young in a happy spot, you can kind of build on it. And I mean, with Thelon went out, so you're basically stripped of all your receivers, except for x Xavier Laguette in that game. So it was, you know, Chuba Hubbard now third in the league and rushing yards, hell of a season. and Yeah, the Giants are screwed, dude. The Giants are screwed.
01:05:39
Speaker
they like They didn't sell, man. Well, and yeah and and now, like you said, you got Malik neighbors. Now I don't know the guy to the concussion list and no one wants to talk about. I would bench him for the rest of the year. Two concussions yeah in three weeks. yeah That is your prized possession. Aside from Dexter Lawrence, that is your prized possession on offense. You need to keep him healthy. And Daniel Jones just wants to has no regard for anyone else's life similar to Derek Card. Just throw in hospital balls every week. Just rest him, man. Just rest him.
01:06:09
Speaker
And if we're going off of that bench, Daniel Jones, get drew lock in the game, let him just try and get a ah backup quarterback bump for a win. But they shouldn't want to win another game. Like they should want first overall pick right now. They're in that spot of worst teams in the NFL. Like it's it's crazy how quickly the the sky started to fall on the Giants.
01:06:33
Speaker
I want them to get Shador Sanders so badly, like so badly, dude, like one. I don't know if he would report part of me thinks he would because it's New York City and he and they see that as like a big market like in that he would. But that the takes that Shador Sanders on the Giants would produce would feed families like yeah I want it so badly, man. I know I said Dylan Gabriel was destined, but they're going to be high enough where they have a chance at getting, you know, the premier quarterback.
01:07:02
Speaker
yeah and Yeah, if they don't go quarterback with their first overall pick, or sorry, their first round pick, wherever they end up, call him my shot early there. um Yeah, man, you have to go quarterback. Daniel Jones yeah is just six seasons this guy started. Six. It's it's just crazy, man. And like so especially issue with how quickly first round quarterbacks kind of get thrown away,
01:07:25
Speaker
how is this the guy that that gets to a second contract and and he's halfway through a second contract and he's still starting despite being ridiculed basically his entire career it makes no sense and you got dable dable is so skinny and yeah have you noticed how quickly that weight has fallen off He just looks like himself. yeah Yeah, it's got to be stressed at this point, worried about his job. but ah Only other thing, the beer steins at this game looked fucking awesome. like yeah They got to do that in America. like they It looked like they had four liters of beer at their seat per each fan. Schooners only in the stadiums at NFL games?
01:08:06
Speaker
Uh, Panthers on the bye week, they returned back to the chiefs, which fuck wouldn't that be awesome if they somehow beat the chief. If that's the team that ruins the chief, that would be the best story in the NFL. If they were the one that, you know, the chiefs get past the bills. Then they just, the letdown spot against the Panthers. That would, that would be amazing. I don't even think the 72 dolphins would have the champagne ready. If that happened, like they would have to delay it.
01:08:30
Speaker
Chargers 27, Titans 17. Another game where the Chargers beat up on a bad team. Trend kind of continues. ah Chargers best start in six years. I found that exact fucking insane. They rushed for 145 yards. I think it's safe to say that the defense is the identity now. we We kind of wondered about what the Chargers identity was for like the first six weeks of this season.
01:08:56
Speaker
13.1 points per game against. That is crazy. They're the first team since 2013 Chiefs to allow 20 or fewer points in each of their first nine games. That's impressive.
01:09:08
Speaker
It is impressive, and I gotta give them credit. They're winning games. They're six and three now, and well in a playoff position. But man, I'm just not convinced. like Are you convinced this is a bonafide playoff team? Can win a game can win a playoff game? Because I'm nowhere near that. And maybe that'll change. you know They got Gus Edwards back in this one. Ham and Dobbins both hit 50 yards. I believe Gus Edwards, 55.
01:09:36
Speaker
It's you're playing the Titans. You're playing, you know, just weak teams. But ah the second half of the schedule for the Chargers is is difficult. So we're going to find out what they are. I'm not against them. I'm just skeptical of what they are because I do think they lack offense. You're right. Like the defense is certainly their identity because, you know, you put up 27 points against the Titans. I don't know if you you score 27 points against the Chiefs and in the other teams you can play. I don't know.
01:10:03
Speaker
and and somehow the the Justin Herbert narratives are back like ah it's like you know this guy's a top five quarterback in the league if you disagree you're just not watching the games I don't know man like they go Bengals Ravens Falcons Chiefs we're gonna find out really fast who this Chargers team is something to keep an eye on and then they go bucks Broncos Patriots Raiders. So it's like they, they have five meaty games, six meaty games ahead of them here. I mean, part of me will not be surprised if they get fucking demolished by the Bengals next week. And it's all prime time. Like there's nowhere to hide next week, right? Like that's a nice real test game. All eyes on you. What are you? And Herbert's just not throwing the ball. He had 18 attempts this game, not saying he's bad or anything. I know. I can't make a decision on Justin Herbert when he throws the ball 18 times a game. That's,
01:10:54
Speaker
I don't know it's puzzling it's coming back with a fury that the Herbert takes so um Titans one last thing nine penalties for 68 yards in this one fourth highest penalties per game in the NFL not Not a very well coached team, I would argue. Yeah, and and Will Levis is is ah second to Geno Smith as the second most sackable quarterback in the NFL. Yeah, he was sacked seven times. they They like showed a little bit of fight in this game. And Will Levis' stat line was actually decent. He didn't throw an interception 18 to 23, 175 two touchdowns, even ran it for 41 yards. But that Forrest Fumble just sealed the game on that sack. And it was just, yeah of course, you're just waiting for that Will Levis moment.
01:11:35
Speaker
and and you got it. It delivers every single time he starts, but good win for the the Chargers. They covered the spread.

Cowboys' Struggles Without Prescott

01:11:42
Speaker
Don't apologize for winning in games. We'll just see what you're made of in the second half of the season.
01:11:47
Speaker
Exactly, very excited to see where the Chargers go from here. ah Final game here, Eagles 34, Cowboys 6. Remember when I said the Cowboys were live in this game? Me too. That was before I knew Dak was out, you know, asterisks there. ah Similar to Tua leaving the Dolphins for that extended period of time, I think there's probably a lot of Cowboys fans out there who owe Dak Prescott some sort of apology after this one.
01:12:15
Speaker
you know they just announced today's having season-ending hamstring surgery say what you want about Dak he clearly is the system in Dallas and without him I mean, i I don't even have words for it really. I saw a TikTok by Jeff Perlman, who's a sports writer. In the midst of this game, I was on TikTok and lots of other people were wondering the same thing. How bad is Trey Lance for you to be starting Cooper Rush? Trey Lance will go down with like the Jamarcus Russells of the world ah as being, I think, one of the biggest busts in NFL history, third overall pick.
01:12:52
Speaker
bye We found out late in this game because they put Trey Lanson, he went 4 for 6, 21 yards, and a hilarious interception. I guess he's that bad. Yeah, I was i started asking that question when I watched Cooper. I understand if they started Cooper Ross, she's definitely more familiar with the playbook and everything. and I don't know, maybe maybe they like the way he throws the ball a little bit better. But when you have 13 completions Damien for 45 yards, that is almost impossible. You are throwing one yard routes. That is an insane stat line to have. They had 66 combined passing yards between the two quarterbacks.
01:13:31
Speaker
what What is that? Dak has that in the first two drives. you know like It's just crazy how different they looked. And then, oh yeah, you can't rely on a run game because you don't have any in Dallas. So it's just, there you know there they might be drafting top five if Dak's out for the season and they continue this. ah yeah They're for sure a top 10 draft pick right now. And I would say, you know you have three wins.
01:13:56
Speaker
Uh, you play in a somewhat tough division where, you know, the Eagles and commanders exist. It's basically, they're going to be battling it out with the giants in that division. And those games are going to be crucial down the stretch to see who's, who's in a better job spot. We also had sun gate in this game game and we had sun gates. Oh man, did we ever.
01:14:15
Speaker
I, I, I, Jerry, man, like, how is that? night And, and you know, I'm, I'm a hater of daylight savings time too. And I definitely played a factor in this game because the sun was setting a little earlier than it may. It usually was, but oh my God, just the instant reaction of sea lambs be like, I can't see the ball. That's how I knew it was real. Cause it was an immediate reaction. And man, that's, I don't understand why that's part of the stadium at all.
01:14:42
Speaker
it's crazy and the crazier thing is how Jerry Jones responds to it like he he is turned into such a snappy bitter old man like these reporters these poor reporters are just doing their job and asking you know hey you know your star receiver is like pointing at the Sun Have you thought about putting up the blinds? And he's like, why don't we just tear the whole stadium down then, huh? Where's the moon? Like he just sounds like he's like senile at this point. Um, and then to add insult to injury, Mike McCarthy has a press conference the next day in the, in Dallas where they put up a sun blocker to block the sun from the windows coming in so that it doesn't hit his face. So they do know they do understand the concept and they have the technology.

Eagles' Rise and Cowboys' Decline

01:15:29
Speaker
It exists.
01:15:30
Speaker
and and this is like this is the cowboy season in a nutshell you have things that can help you win and you are actively not doing them it's you could say that about the run game you could say that about the coaching it's the cowboy season in a nutshell in sun gate yeah it's it you're right it just puts a bow on everything that's happened for them this season and yeah like they have concerts in there they block it out all the time like it's just But jerry Jerry can't do it. Jerry can't put his pride aside sometimes. And hey, man, it's it is what it is. And then Micah Parsons is saying that we're we're not playing for Mike McCarthy after the game. They're playing for the veterans on the team because you know they don't think Mike's going to be around next year. They basically claim that he's going to be fired.
01:16:12
Speaker
I don't think that's crazy to say it, but it was just like, it just shows the the tone of where that room is and they are just lifeless in there. Michael Parsons did help the defense though. Like he was flying around a little bit, but then you still give up 34 points to a division rival. 146 total yards, five turnovers, 11 first downs for the entire game.
01:16:36
Speaker
Still windless at home, like there's so many bad things to say about the Cowboys. ah Worst offensive showing for them at home since AT&T Stadium opened in 2009. The Eagles, another four TD game for Hertz, two pass TDs, two rush TDs. They're now in first in the NFC East with the commander's loss.
01:16:56
Speaker
jail and hurts beautiful quote momentum is an illusion in a sense like it's they're just spitting quotes out of a jail and hurts machine again versus Washington this Thursday night could very well be for the division like it that game is huge man I'm so excited for it yes like ah a real prime time game with implications it's beautiful to have and then the obviously we are Sunday night or with the Jets involved um but yet it's it's I don't know what's going on with this Eagles team because it feels like everything's going too well right now you know what I mean they haven't had something something pop up in a while
01:17:32
Speaker
Feels like they're due. Keep an eye on now if there's a night Syriani maybe in in the prime time spot. they They're due for something. Maybe Big Dom gets involved on Thursday night. I don't know. But Philly, things are going too smooth for them right now. Something's got to burst in that team.
01:17:49
Speaker
that It really does. I love the Eagles right now. like They look great, dude. They look so great. You're so right. Something has to happen here. It's been way too quiet in Philadelphia. To me, they're the number two team in the NFC. That's where I have them at. i i like I think they're very talented. The offense is lethal right now. Defense, I mean, you're playing Cooper Rush and Trey Lance, so I'm not going to take a ton from that game on defense. But the Fangio defense, before that, looks like it's starting to come into form.
01:18:15
Speaker
Yeah, Thursday night, massive one. All eyes will be on that one just to see who who can take over that division. Mm hmm. And they've also hit on their draft picks like Quinn on Mitchell and Cooper DeGene both look fantastic. They both look like NFL starters, which is so sick to see. Like you you just immediately hit on two defensive players like that. Like you're just instantly getting that better. um But we will move away from the NFL recap into our week 11 picks Week 10, what a week. I was 14 and 13. I went 3 and 0. Big 3 and 0. Now 17 and 13. Patrick was 13 and 14. Went 1 and Now 14 and 16. Got screwed by the Lions in that game.

NFL Week 11 Picks and Game Previews

01:19:03
Speaker
Bad. falcons Falcons you deserved. Lions you did not. Bad. You hate to see it. um No excuses though. On to the next week. I'm not done. I'm i'm still chasing you. i'm I'm not letting up off the gas. Patrick is not a seller at the deadline. um I hold serve here because I won the week and I think you know where I'm going first with this pick. I think both of us would be scratching and clawing to get this pick Chiefs one and a half, man. I just have to take it. It's an auto pick, like Chiefs as underdogs. i They could lose that game by one, and I still cover. like it's I have to take that pick. I'm fine getting beat with the Chiefs if they lose that game. ah And yeah, i'm I'm putting a lot on the Chiefs this week, including the fraud watch. So ah yeah, Chiefs one and a half. I'm just so scared of that game. It feels like whichever side I take, I'm going to be wrong, no matter. And it doesn't matter. So I've just got to.
01:19:55
Speaker
I want to part in it, though. i I guess I already have a bit of a part in it with the with the Bill's fraud watch, but I want more of a part. Give me all. of you're You're really just being in the Bill's heel. And I love it. I love that out of you. I'm going I'm going close to the heart here. Steelers plus three and a half at home against the Ravens. There's seven and eight of against the Ravens. They've had Lamar Jackson's number his entire career. More catch him more than a field goal at home. I like it. I like the Steelers plus three and a half on this one.
01:20:25
Speaker
I looked long and hard at it and I had a feeling that you'd take it love the hook on that like you you gotta love the hook there. ah Okay, I am going to go.
01:20:37
Speaker
I'm going to go with a bit of a ballsy pick here, even though their favorites, which sounds so stupid to say, Rams four and a half. I think that this is a perfect kind of trap game. The opposite way here that the Patriots, everything's going up for them. The Rams, they just lost the tough one on on Monday night. But from what I saw from the Rams defense last night, I think they will swallow up that like Drake may offense.
01:21:00
Speaker
And I think Stafford will have a bit of a get right game there. they're Yes, they're on the road. But I like the Rams in that game. Yeah, I had it down as as one of my my picks. So you stole one from me there. i' I'm doing it. I'm doing it. I don't know if you know where I'm going, but I'm doing it. Lions, minus 13 and a half, lay the points. they They want you to take the Jaguars. This has to mean Mac Jones is starting. i don i'm I'm not tapped into the to the Jags beat.
01:21:29
Speaker
but ah Yeah, man, just just lay the points with the lines. They're a little pissed off after Jared Goff through five interceptions. Lay it, lay it, lay it. That is such a crazy number, dude, like that is some real, real college football shit. um It's that's nuts, dude. All right. Last pick here. I've got a few picks written down here. I've been back and forth with it.
01:21:56
Speaker
I'm going to go with the Houston Texans minus seven and a half against the Cowboys. It's next Monday night. This one worries me a bit, but I I cannot see the Cowboys after what I just saw keeping this game within eight points. Yeah, it's two teams that are pretty low right now. Some but like one of these teams has to break. And I don't know. I like that one as well. Tough given more than a touchdown, though. that That's the only like worry ah in that one would have loved six and a half.
01:22:27
Speaker
I'm gonna go with the total. It's an ugly one, but I think this is gonna be one of the uglier games of the week. ah Under 44 and a half brown saints. Had it. Yeah, it just it's um it looks like a gross game on paper.
01:22:40
Speaker
i almost took that with the last pick there so i i also really like that pick that pick is or that game is going to be thirteen to ten like something like that brown brown's off a buy they might get a touchdown this week yeah but that' will do it for a week eleven ps Close battle still, like i um I'm up three picks here, but that could change in the span of a week. Like we're still in that week span where anything could change here. And they're still just under half. Like we're one week past the halfway point of the season. So plenty of weeks to go. And like I said, it's just it's a three and a week for me and an 0 and three week for you and and no one else. Anything can happen with these picks.
01:23:19
Speaker
very true very true um we will come back after this with a CFL Eastern and Western final recap and then the big one we will do our gray cup preview So come back after this for a little CFL ball talk. All

Argos vs Alouettes: Key Moments

01:23:38
Speaker
right. Welcome back to a little CFL playoff talk and we will start with the Eastern final. Wow. What a game man. Almost gave me a heart attack. I would say multiple times.
01:23:52
Speaker
followed a very similar game script to the Eastern Semifinal here and the Argos punched their ticket to the Grey Cup. Argos 30, Alouettes 28, this was Cathartic Patrick.
01:24:05
Speaker
Damien, it feels good, man. the the flip ah sorry The script was officially flipped in this one. ah you know The Argos had nine turnovers in the Eastern final last year. Well, the Als had six in this one. And the Argos took advantage of almost every single one. yeah It started off with pure chaos. Chad Kelly throws the tip deep ball, basically an arm punt. And then on the return, it gets Mackay Polk, punches it out. And then it was just, we're off and running. We're in for a chaotic game. And it lived up to that.
01:24:35
Speaker
For me, it was it was a back and forth game. I think for the most part, I thought Montreal kind of came out strong, but the game kind of flipped on its head ah just before half. I think that De Monte Koxie touchdown in the corner of the end zone right before half just gave the Argos the momentum there.
01:24:54
Speaker
And they kind of carried in the second half. Obviously, you know, we know what happened with the quarterback. But I feel like that was a big boost for the team to just get that touchdown, take a lead in the halftime and just on the road, give them the hope that they can pull off this upset. And they will actually they close his favorites. i Did you see that before the game moved so far, dude, to one and a half point favorites, which is crazy, crazy line movement in that game. um But again, another game where They play like shit for all intents and purposes in the first half and go into half with a lead. like They led 21-16 going into half. you know They were getting the turnovers. Al's turnover the ball three times in the first quarter alone. ah Benji Franklin gets the pick six on Fajardo. But then that was their only points like they for a long time. like
01:25:46
Speaker
ah Offense continued to sputter 16 to 7 for Montreal. Kelly has two interceptions and two incompletions at one point. At that point in the game, I was like, dude, this could really go badly. Then its generic grant comes from the clouds, returns a punt to the house to go down 16-14. Then DeMonte Koxie, like you said, 40-yard jump ball, goes up and gets it with eight seconds left.
01:26:11
Speaker
And then with seven seconds left, they run time off the clock and he gets a one handed catch in the in in the end zone. That was enough of a turning point in itself. but then you get Jason Moss challenging it you put it perfectly when we were texting you said I don't like what happened challenge like it you know classic head coach being like I don't like that they scored there I'm gonna challenge it it was some very pedestrian hand fighting going on between coaxie and the corner there he loses his challenge which comes back to bite him later in the game
01:26:43
Speaker
when they can't challenge the past interference that closed this game out. That that was, Moss got outcoached in this game. By Ryan Dinwiddie, our boy who ah had quite the fit and we'll get to it in the great cup preview. But yeah, Dinwiddie is, you know, we get on him a bit. We think he makes some questionable coaching decisions and the Argos defense really hasn't looked as good as it did when Corey Mace was around. So I think there's there's some knocks to be had on Dinwiddie.
01:27:13
Speaker
But man, he just finds ways to get this team into the playoffs, into the great cup, three to the last four years, I believe now. It's there's something to be said about a coach that finds ways to win. I know it's not always pretty. And like you said, the first half up until, you know, the the special teams and then the coaxie touchdown and the half was horrible. And I thought the owls were going to win this game by two scores at the end of the first quarter.
01:27:40
Speaker
And then Dinwiddie is able to kind of rally the troops. I don't know what he said in the in the halftime. Chad Kelly grew some injury. um Very, very awful to see. And I think like you heard him mic'd up, man. Dinwiddie was basically crying when he was saying, like we love you, Chad. like We're going to win this game for you.
01:27:59
Speaker
He's like, keep fighting. I always say was the telling his team rallying his team, but that's, that's what you need, man. A coach that clearly has enough respect in that room where they're going to listen to them. They're going to buy in and they're going to play really hard and credit to Nick Arbuckle.
01:28:14
Speaker
Because you know i'll we'll get into it a little bit with the Great Cup preview and what they need to do. But he he looks solid. And that's all they needed him to do in that game. And he didn't cause the turnover to lose in that game. They had a lead to play with. And they played with it. They got that key field goal late. And then it was just it was just hold on for dear life. And they were able to pull this one out.
01:28:36
Speaker
It was really that that second down. I think it was second and eight. He hit Unger on that cross body throw to get the first down like that was an impressive throw. And you're right, he didn't make the mistake. He didn't allow Montreal to to get back into this game with a turnover. And that was really all it took. They put together a field goal drive with Arbuckle. They push it to an eight point lead. I thought that was going to bite them in the ass, not going for it on third and one with him. You know, yeah after Kelly, you know, scrambled that the word is that he fractured both his tibula and fibula on that play. Bad, bad play.
01:29:12
Speaker
um And that has been the story of this Argo season again we'll get to that with the Great Cup preview but battling through adversity here and that's what they did in this game gutsy when you lose your QB you get five turnovers and you get revenge for last year all in one afternoon.
01:29:28
Speaker
um Hell of a drive there at the end by our buckle preset draws the past interference and then that because of that loss challenge mass mass can't challenge it um and then the Argos drain their clock with with a a Play you only ever see in the CFL like you hot it back to the quarterback and you throw it backwards 20 yards just to like run and drain out the clock but But we knew that was coming because of some hot mics by TSN, dude, some insane pieces of production by by the sports network. I mean, who asked for that? Like both both QBs miked up. you're You're hearing Cody Fajardo's annoying voice all game.
01:30:08
Speaker
That was how we knew Chad Kelly broke his like leg was because somebody on the hot mic said he broke his fucking leg. And then like, dude, they're showing on the camera our buckle and dim witty talking them when he is covering his whole face with the playbook. And we just get a full week we heard everything.
01:30:28
Speaker
I couldn't believe they aired that. Yeah, and Fajardo was in our in my living room the entire game. He was just screaming the plays out at the line of scrimmage. like I don't mind hearing it when it when it picks up naturally off a mic. Don't mic the actual quarterback up and then hammer the volume to 10. It was crazy. Fajardo was louder than the commentators at times. yeah it was It was insane. And I go, okay,
01:30:54
Speaker
Maybe they just messed up on the first drive. They'll certainly correct this as the game goes along No, no, like how many I had to go on on on x dot.com the everything app um Everyone was complaining everyone was complaining about it and I thought it was a solo thing but no everyone was complaining and ah Yeah, they just didn't want to fix it. And yeah, like you said, it just kind of spoiled spoil the chaotic ending. You know what I mean? If no one's like watch a CFL game, they're tuning in for an Eastern Conference final. They are at what's it and they go, whoa, there is none of that. No surprise. Thanks. you Thanks. you And I would get it if you had them miked up and then, you know, you'll see this sometimes in NFL games where they'll cut to a replay and then they'll pull up the sound for the replay and then like give you added contacts context after the fact.
01:31:47
Speaker
They just shoved it down our throat with that one. um For the Alouettes, the Alouettes and their horns deserve every bit of that loss. Bad coaching, didn't take care of the football whatsoever. And they made mistakes at the biggest moments of that game. Like Cody Fajardo said after the game, it felt like a nightmare. I wish I could just pinch myself and wake up and it'd be the morning of this game. it And it was a nightmare. If you're an Als fan, like That was the team that went 2-4-1 to finish the season, not the team that started 10-1. We talked about, you know, they are who we thought they were. The Alouettes were who we thought they were. They were the team that limped into the playoffs here, and they didn't seem ready for that game, you know, in the grander sense. They started out well, but for the entirety of that game, they did not seem prepared for it.
01:32:36
Speaker
No. and And like I said earlier, like the script was completely flipped. It was Montreal got comfortable in the regular season. They knew they locked up the one seed so early on they just weren't in, they weren't playing meaningful games down the stretch. And like I said, there are two and four and it was exactly what the Argos were last year, man. They lock up the one seed. Everything just goes into cruise control down the stretch. And then you immediately have to turn it on after the team you're playing just played a playoff game the week before.
01:33:03
Speaker
They know like their intensities as high as it can be and then they just went in and don't get me wrong It was a horrible start like we mentioned, but the Argos were able to overcome it and I The yellowettes are a bunch of babies. I'll say it. I'll say it. They're just trying to play much complaining, dude, dude. They're playing the victim. i What's the Bevoret before the game? Like scream is like we're in the locker room with Fajardo as well. So we're the narrative that's being spun. Everything is just like, dude, you guys were favored the whole week up until like the second before the the game was snapped. And even so, you were it was basically a pick on one half point underdog.
01:33:41
Speaker
You're at home. No one was like against you. No one thought, hey, Montreal doesn't deserve to be here. It it was none of that narrative. And then Tyson Philpott game day or two after goes, I feel the best team is not going to the great cup this year. Well, I thought the same thing last year, dude, but you got to play the games and you got to win them and you didn't win the game.
01:33:59
Speaker
It's so ironic to say that about a Montreal team that won as an underdog in the Grey Cup last year. It's insane, dude. like You didn't win the game. You didn't deserve to be there. It is just full-on copium from from the Alouettes here who've got a lot of questions. like that You should rightfully have a lot of questions there if you're an Alouettes fan, if you're in the Alouettes brass.
01:34:22
Speaker
um Because you just purely weren't good enough and the Argos then went I think they finished the season series against them three and one So you lost to them three times. How can you say you weren't the better team? It's crazy to me um who was indefinitely the better team is The Western final the Winnipeg blue bombers 38 to 22 over the Rough

Blue Bombers' Dominance and CFL Legacy

01:34:47
Speaker
Riders. This was the blue bombers. Everyone was afraid would show up and winning in dominant fashion in a game that was truly never close. Ed Tate, very famous writer for the Bombers, put it best. The riders added a late score that was essentially scoreboard cosmetic surgery. What a great line that is. They jump out to a 14-0 lead in the first quarter. They carry a 15-point lead into the final frame.
01:35:13
Speaker
Just every facet of the game, they were better than the riders. Coaching, offense, defense, special teams. I mean, this was this was the Winnipeg team that everybody knows. Yeah, it was over right after the first quarter. Like I said, it was 14-0. They're at home, all the momentum on their side. And there was there's no signs of them slowing down on offense. And you know Kenny Lawler leaves the game with a hat-trick heat. Talk about Randy Moss stat lines. Yes.
01:35:37
Speaker
four receptions, 177 yards and three touchdowns. Unbelievable. It felt like any time he caught the ball, it's just like, yep, they counted up 50 yards score, 60 yards 30 yards, uh, Kaleros business as usual, man. Like that guy is just so prime and so cool in the biggest spots. And you know, you can just lean on a guy like that. And then if he's not going well,
01:36:00
Speaker
Oh, yeah, we got Brady Olivera in the backfield who also had a hell of a game with 20 carries, 119 yards in touchdown. They couldn't. No one was beating the blue bombers in this game. No, no. Will this game travel? Who knows? But if they show up and they they put that game in, it's it's over and they've now like they're rolling. They've won 10 of their last 11 games. They're heading to their fifth straight great cup.
01:36:22
Speaker
I it it's you know they serve the season 0 and 4 but i don't think anyone thought that they they wouldn't end up exactly where they are this year it's so true like this is just such classic blue bombers like they just when you think you have one over on them you don't like caloros ultimate pro ultimate pro in this game olivera figures out the defense that stifled them all year long Kenny Lawler, you know, missed the first eight games of this season with a broken arm. And then he comes up and puts down that stat line. Like you said, the TD catches 31 yards, 24 yards, 57 yards like it just nuts. And then the defense, which we haven't even mentioned yet, went crazy sacked Harris twice, forced three turnovers, limited Harris to 283 yards passing, which a good chunk of that was the
01:37:17
Speaker
scoreboard cosmetic surgery Late in the game at that late drive where they tried to make it close and the game was already decided You know 482 yards of net offense for the blue bombers You know, they lose Winnipeg Sun Sports editor Ted Wyman the day before the game with after a battle with cancer extend our condolences for him and his family on that one and they clearly were motivated in this game like they went out they won that game for him he There was never a a doubt in this game at all. Like, the and they got out coached like Mace, they go for it there.
01:37:53
Speaker
on third and three from their own 24-yard line, two plays later, Winnipeg's in the end zone. Like, it's just anything they tried to do, Winnipeg immediately stomped on it. You know, Royal Milligan gets the recovered fumble by Lucky Whitehead, only for the offense to go for it on third in the red zone and miss the TD pass. So they weren't even scoring on their turnovers. Saskatchewan wasn't. Yeah, you're right. If they bring this game plan and play like this in the great cup, I don't know if there's a team in the CFL on their best day that could stop them. That was a perfect recap of just everything that happened in that Western Final. It was just domination on both sides of the ball from start to finish. Not only that, they got Trevor Harris contemplating retirement. it's yeah yeah here's here's some quote Here's some Trevor Harris quotes.
01:38:40
Speaker
Does this organization have a chance if I'm here? And then there's there's one more, but then he goes, this one was from today. I'm just not ready for it to be over. So I don't know if Trevor Harris is going to be a trade candidate. If he, you know, we'll see what happens in the off season, but man, how bad do you have to get beat to just be like, I i can't compete in this league anymore. He he was ready to hang them up. It was like the, the Vontae Davis hanging them up at halftime.
01:39:05
Speaker
just leading the game. That would have been an incredible moment. But yeah, just absolute domination from the blue bombers. You've come to expect it at this point. I thought Saskatchewan was going to hang a little tougher than that. Don't get me wrong. I didn't know if they were going to win the game, but it was it opened up four and a half. The line even moved to three and a half where I was like, oh, OK, so maybe sharp money coming in on the riders. No, no, it was the bombers the entire time. And now now we got quite the matchup on our hands and in the in the good old Grey Cup, Damien.
01:39:34
Speaker
let's get to it gray cup preview argos open as 10 and a half point underdogs versus the blue bombers over under 49 and a half 10 and a half point spread is fucking nuts in the gray cup It's an absolutely ridiculous spread ah considering that the Argos have beaten the Blue Bombers this season with Nick Arbuckle at quarterback. This season a week 8 16-14 win in overtime in Toronto
01:40:06
Speaker
I can't help but feel like that is a reactionary line. so yeah i'll give you a couple couple more stats to back that up damien so the argos obviously they won the game with abuckle quarterback therere two and zero on the season over the blue bombers and you know i think we have a pretty good sample size of what this argos team was without chad kelly because he missed the first nine games of the season so you go back You know, oh, there are five and four. How many of those games did they lose by more than 10 points? None of them. Their their worst loss was by 10 points exactly to the Alouettes earlier in the season. Like what I understand, like you said, very reactionary. The bombers couldn't have looked any better in that game against Saskatchewan. And I think they're just assuming that it's going to kind of transfer over to the Argos. But the transit sort of transit yeah that property doesn't work in in football. And
01:40:58
Speaker
Listen, man, our buckle, I wanted to get into a little bit in in the Argos Alouettes game. he He can win this game, but it's it's he's going to win this game by not doing too much. he a We can take punts. You can take, you know, turn like, no, it's just, you can't turn the ball over. You can't go turnovers on downs. You can't try and be a hero and scramble for first downs and go back five, six yards.
01:41:25
Speaker
punts are fine. The, you know, the special teams, Jerry on grant is going to make an impact to this game. At some point we saw it in in the Alouettes. The, the defense has been having a knack for turnovers and impact plays pick sixes in both playoff games, two against the right in two against the red blocks. Sorry. I don't know, man. The CFL is such an unpredictable league that lay in 10 and a half points in a great cup seems insane to me.
01:41:50
Speaker
It really does. And I love that stat that they never lost any of those points, yeah any of those games by 10 points. I mean, all the sharp money that I follow on Twitter, CFL bets have the Argos like they jumped all over the Argos 10 and a half. I went back to that week eight game and watched, you know, the full highlight tape from it, 15 minute highlight tape on YouTube. And from that game, I tried to use that game as my keys to an Argos victory. So in that game, three forced fumbles on Winnipeg ah by the secondary. They fumbled Olivera, Wolotarski, and Demsky. One pick six for the Toronto defense, including five sacks on Kalaros. They rushed for almost 100 yards. They made Castillo miss two field goals in that game. Winnipeg in that game, the big you know turning point of that game is that they went for it on third and one on the Toronto 22 with 45 seconds left and missed the the the third and one.
01:42:50
Speaker
They turn the ball over on downs. Castillo missed the field goal in overtime, and the Argos hit theirs to win. So if you're going to translate that to a a game map or a path for the Argos to win this game, turn the ball over. The turnover battle is going to be huge. You need takeaways early and often to slow Winnipeg's offense down. Sac Calero's not, you know, force him out of the pocket. Get him on the ground. You find a running game with Kerry added a boy.
01:43:19
Speaker
And then the secondary has to have the best game of the season so far. They forced three of those turnovers in that game in week eight. They got to be aggressive. Then you out coach Mike Shea like it's.
01:43:30
Speaker
the the The path is there. They've done it before this season. Yeah. You just outlined the script right there. And that's kind of falls into our buckle. Just not trying to do too much. You know, just give yourself a chance in the fourth quarter, right? Get the game to the fourth quarter, make it a one score game, and then who knows what's going to happen? Because see the CFL, it can be quick possessions. It can change in a second. Like it's chaos, utter chaos in the CFL, which is fun and interesting.
01:43:58
Speaker
yeah it's It's tough, right? But Dinwiddie has also been in a spot like this before ah as a quarterback ah in 2007 when Kevin Glenn went down.
01:44:09
Speaker
Dinwoody had to start the great cup without having to start. He hadn't started a snap all season long and then he gets thrown into a spot. So he's going to kind of be able to resonate a little bit with Nick Arbuckle in in where he's going to be at. So hopefully he's you know game planning this around what he experienced in 07 and know seven and that that can only help, right? Like having that experience, you know, you'll be able to.
01:44:34
Speaker
probably get through to our buckle a little bit more. And then thank God they traded for him. Imagine Cameron Duke starting this game right now. Yeah, no kidding, dude. They had Brian Scott. Welcome back, Brian Scott to the to the league. Brian Scott, there's got to be some fun stat there ah for a QB who's played for both great cop teams in a single season because he went over to Winnipeg very briefly this season. um Yeah, you're so on point there. Our buckles just got to not make the mistake B.
01:45:03
Speaker
the best version of a game manager that you can be game managers can win championship games for Winnipeg Winnipeg keys to victory here you expose the Argos soft zone whatever you want to call it expose the Argos secondary they have amazing receivers on this team if they take care of the ball and they hit those receivers often this can get they can get out to an early lead um you protect Kalaros you know Sacking him means the Argos have life. If he has time, he will make Toronto pay. like he He makes teams pay at the quarterback position. You get Oliveira going early. If he rushes for 119 like he does against Saskatchewan, they will dominate the pace of play and the time of possession in this game. And then you force Arbuckle to throw the ball. I expect them to fully stack the box here and really make Arbuckle beat them. like They're going to make Arbuckle beat them through the air.
01:45:58
Speaker
you You got smart decisions you take the points when you can get them in this game that that'll be the game plan for for Winnipeg just dominating time possession and long drives here got a question for you is ah is this a dynasty if the Bombers win it it it is it and but it is a razor's edge I would say here because if the bombers lose and you went to five straight gray cops and one two of them then you're the team who lost right like you're the team who choked three times
01:46:31
Speaker
If you win, then I think it's a dynasty. Three in five years is like this will be etched in. You know, Mike O'Shea is another guy who's going to waltz into the CFL Hall of Fame as a coach. He'll probably go down as one of the best coaches in CFL history, um but it it is really balancing on a razor's edge there. Like it's glory or you're the team that chokes. Yeah, I always struggle where it's like, if you're not winning them consecutively or, you know, three and four, right? Like, cause it, five straight great cups is crazy. And the another crazy part is it doesn't look like they're slowing down anytime soon. And I wouldn't be surprised if they go back again next year.
01:47:08
Speaker
Yeah, I don't know. i'm I'm in the same boat, though. I do think it's a dynasty. If you go to the Great Cup five straight times and you win three out of five, yeah, like that. You're doing something that no other team in the the in the league is doing, and you're clearly dominant. Now let's get to Din Whitty's fit. Tell me you saw it. Tell me you saw it. What a bomber.
01:47:30
Speaker
Stanced up on the sidelines so hard in that jacket dude, dude. I'm talking about the CFL media the gray cut media day purple the purple shirt He's got a beige or tan or gray. I couldn't get the exact, you know, pantone of, of the jacket. Um, then he's got the, like, like, ah um, piercing purple, a piercing purple dress shirt with the top button undone. You can see his undershirt that, which is always just a ah great look on, on national TV, making sure everyone can see you got an undershirt on and the top it off. He's just got like a snap back on his head. Just a great cup snapback. He's like, dude, you look so you look like you've never put on a collared shirt in your life. That's amazing, dude. That is so good. I couldn't help. my life I like stopped it. I said he popped on my screen and I go pause that TV right now. I'll pause it. I need to see that. And I just took it in. And it's just so funny. It was just I don't know who dressed them clearly himself, but like someone could have been like, hey, man, maybe even just drop the jacket. Like just like just something. But it was it was quite the fit. But he's clearly
01:48:40
Speaker
He's feeling himself. Yeah, he's feeling good. He's getting some fits off in Great Cup Week. I love him. He's taking it from the Kelly Olenek School of Dressing with the backwards snapback. Anybody's been watching the Raptors this season. It's insane. Kelly Olenek got married with a backwards snapback.
01:48:57
Speaker
that that's fucking amazing uh yeah that that is great vibes i would say like that is the one thing the argos also have on their side in this game like we talk about legacy here like the blue armors got a lot of pressure in this game your your favorite by 10 and a half points the argos are clearly loose if you you know if you take anything from dim whitties fit fit the argos are feeling loose they they have you know nothing to lose in this game and i think that that i think it's time for picks now picks and predictions because
01:49:28
Speaker
If I'm going to be honest here, I think the pick here is that the Argos cover the spread and make this an entertaining game, but they can't close the gap after Winnipeg stack some points and and Winnipeg beats Toronto for the first time ever in a great cup. I got some fun facts actually before you get to your pick. Toronto is undefeated against Winnipeg 8-0 in championship games.
01:49:48
Speaker
dating back to 1937 as recently as 2022. The Argos are also 18-6 in Grey Cup games. They've won 7 straight. The last loss in the big game came in 1987.
01:50:04
Speaker
And the last one, this one's crazy. Argos equipment manager, Danny Webb, they honored him this year. He has eight great cup rings. He has almost half the amount of great cups that the Argos have. He's been a part of. So they got some good juju on their side in this game. They do. And um I think I predicted this one. I kind of forget that this was going to be the the great cup final. It was picked the Argos kind of out of hope.
01:50:27
Speaker
They're not offering me a cash out on my future, Damien. And I know that's bullshit. So I'm i'm in the well. i'm I'm going hard with the Argos. Moneyline. ah we What a win this would be if they somehow pull it out. But if we're giving picks on the game, I like the over because I think if Winnipeg gets out to a hot start, I think the Argos are going to attack on garbage points. I think it's going to be one of those garbage. If the Argos don't cover, this is just hedging my pick in a sense where I think if the Argos win,
01:50:56

You, you laid the script out perfectly. It's going to be an ugly one, a 16, 14, uh, you know, just like a one score type matchup. If the Argos win this game, if the bombers win, I think it's like 40 to 20. You know what I mean? It's it's just going to be a lot of points. I think the Argos are going to tack on some in garbage time. So if I have to give a pick on this game over 49 and a half, but I'm riding with an Argos gray cup future, hoping that comes to fruition.

Hell yeah, yeah, my pickle be Argo's 10 and a half. that That'll take to the bank any day. My other prediction is I'm gonna get sucked in. I'm gonna watch the Jonas Brothers and I'm gonna be like, that was better than I thought it was gonna be. i'm They've been playing that damn song on on TV for the past week straight and it's getting in my head. Dave, give them credit. The CFL doesn't always do a ton of things right in terms of marketing and media. They've been advertising the hell out of the Grey Cup and the Grey Cup halftime show.

You're right. i've i but You know, it's going to be a good vibes halftime show. yeah You're right. Like everyone's going to be happy. No one's going to like actually get upset at the Jonas Brothers. So they have that going for them. Yeah, I'm i'm going to enjoy it. But it might be, ah you know, grab some food at halftime. I might catch one or two songs, but I'm not going to be. I don't need to be seated to watch the Jonas Brothers at this one. Correct. Correct. I think.

Carly Ridge Epson will bring the house down as well as a special guest um But that will do it today for us at the goal post Get out there and watch it this weekend watch the Grey Cup a little fire fest of my own My girlfriend is moving into a new apartment on Sunday, so I'm gonna be moving all day I got I got a prove it game for myself, too I'm gonna be packing boxes and moving boxes and then getting home for the game. So I Get get home, get some wings, enjoy it. Enjoy the Great Cup. Enjoy it. It'll be fun. It's a Canadian tradition. Six o'clock Eastern. Get to your TV and then just, you know, it's it's Toronto. The Argos are always kind of they don't desert. They don't get the media attention that any other team basically in the city gets. So it's fun time to galvanize around and and a true underdog team in the city. And I mean, like Damien said, they've got hell of a record in the Great Cup. So who knows what's going to happen come Sunday?

Exactly they just had also they had to put the Chiefs in the bills at four o'clock It's just gonna bleed right into it, which is terrible it might match up well with half times and stuff though, right? Like I that's the only thing that's the only positive spin I can put on that That'll do it for us at the goalpost Thanks for another week of listening and we will come back to you next Wednesday until then Patrick. See ya. See ya Damien
