Introduction & Halloween Greetings

00:00:17
Speaker
All right, welcome back to another episode of the goalpost. Happy Halloween, everybody. We are here after an exciting week in the NFL, an exciting weekend coming up in the CFL.

Steelers' Victories & Challenges

00:00:31
Speaker
ah Patrick, we got to start with your boys.
00:00:34
Speaker
because the Steelers win another prime time game. They win their 22nd straight home game on Monday night football. Last week you said you wouldn't get excited after the Jets win, but you would get excited if they were able to win this Giants game. How are we feeling Patrick?
00:00:51
Speaker
I think Russell Wilson dressed up as a Super Bowl winning quarterback for Halloween Damien because I'm all the way in on the Russ experience. I was definitely tentative and and a little worried and scared um about the switch from fields to Wilson for the reasons that I stated was a lot of mobility in the offensive line.
00:01:11
Speaker
And then especially going up against a guy like sexy, Dexi, Dexter Lawrence is just dominant from the inside and the Steelers were on basically their third string center. So I thought this was a game that, you know, could, could have disaster implications possibly for Russ, but he's moving, man. He can move just enough and he's throwing the ball so well, 63 points in his last two games as a starter for the Steelers. And I'm just so impressed about his arm strength. I i didn't realize that it was.
00:01:40
Speaker
Like it's it's accurate. It's hard. It's just like it's very impressive to watch in Justin Fields He lacked that no touch kind of it's a lot of you know hard throws But Russ has got it down and he's just like his movements are doing just enough He was able to evade pressure had the one force fumble, but I mean he was trying to make a play Yeah, I don't mind that from

Najee Harris & Special Teams Highlights

00:02:00
Speaker
Russ. He was trying to make a play but obviously clean that up. We can't have uh the turnovers from the quarterback that was a big uh it's a big part of Steelers culture and how they win games but yeah the the offense from the start of the game they just were moving the ball it was just up and down the field and then kind of stalled out the first three drives in the off in the first half and then we had settle for field goals
00:02:22
Speaker
ah Sorry the Steelers had to sell for field goals, but overall I'm very impressed with what I've seen from Russell Wilson for his first two starts as a Steelers quarterback Yeah kind of seemed like a similar kind of game path as the Giants game like it it took a bit to warm into this game it Same with the Jets game ah took a little bit of you know kind of feeling out the defense but again a impressive second half and impressive second half adjustments from the Steelers and you see the pass to George Pickens in the fourth quarter like an accurate bullet the fade pass to Calvin Austin another great pass by Russ and the offense just looked fantastic I mean
00:03:00
Speaker
This is the Giants we're playing against, but the Giants have a good defense like that is not a, you know, walk over defense that you're playing against. And another fantastic Naji Harris game and like three games since he wasn't extended and three prove it games from him. It's the first time in his career. He's had over 100 yards and three straight games.
00:03:19
Speaker
In those games, he's got three, 22, two touchdowns combined. He was just a force out there. Like anytime they couldn't get it done through the air, he was consistently getting, I don't know, five yards a carry. ah Really impressed with them on the offensive side of the football and with Najah Harris too.
00:03:35
Speaker
Yeah. And even the special teams, man, I feel pretty confident in saying that I think the Steelers have the best special teams in the NFL. We'll get to the lines later. They had an impressive special teams performance as well, but it seems like every week, uh, they're the Steelers special teams, either blocks a kick a punt.
00:03:51
Speaker
or now this week they're scoring touchdowns, which kind of broke the game open ah in a way, cause it was like nine, nine and a half. Like you said, both offenses were struggling to get into the end zone. It was hilarious. It was Steelers giants and at half it's nine, nine. And if you weren't tuned in, you go, this is a horrible game. There was over combined over 400 yards of offense with no touchdowns. It's the first time that's ever happened on Monday night football. So it it was like, it was a fun game, but yeah, both teams,
00:04:19
Speaker
There was more to be desired for sure on offense.

Controversial Catch Rules Discussion

00:04:21
Speaker
um And then did did you see that George Pickens ah touchdown catch? Yeah, three touchdowns taken back by like calls after but I hand up did not know that was a rule. Yeah, I'm i'm with you. It was it was a gut reaction. So obviously the the we're talking about the second one, not the one that was called back due to a penalty. He had his right foot touchdown twice to like it was tap.
00:04:44
Speaker
hit tap again but his left foot never came down in my head I go hmm I go hmm this is like maybe that could be a problem but I go no he two taps of a foot I would think counts for you know two feet in bounds because you can have a foot and an elbow you can have a foot in a knee you can have a foot and a butt cheek but apparently if you have two of the same feet tu tapping in twice No catch. So yeah, youll you learn something new and and the NFL catching rules just continue to be as confusing as ever. Yeah, it's weird because it's kind of a semantics thing. Like I think in the rules, it says both feet down and not two feet down, which is where people were kind of pointing it out. But it's kind of silly. Like what if you were to make a catch and the defender's holding your other leg and you tap one foot six times? Like, is that not a touchdown?
00:05:33
Speaker
Yeah, like you catch it from the one yard line. You just want to erb like the 10 yard line. You just want to hop in on one foot. i like Someone's got to try it out.

TJ Watt's Impact & Steelers' Strong Start

00:05:40
Speaker
if you yeah The Lions had a perfect opportunity to do it against the Titans when you're just kind of clowning a team. Someone, please try that and just test the NFL rulebook for us. Yeah, no kidding. You mentioned the Russ fumble earlier. It's nice when you have a player like TJ Watt who can just go and get you the ball back right away. What an impressive game from him, man. Seven tackles, five solos, two sacks.
00:06:01
Speaker
He gets the strip sack and recovers it himself. like He was just all over the field tonight. ah Bean seals the game with another interceptions, another huge game from Pittsburgh's defense too.
00:06:13
Speaker
Yeah, it's the game record, TJ Watt, the Giants right tackle. I i'm i remember his name, but I can't pull it up right now. He wanted to be left on an island, which is just, you can't be saying that pregame. You can say that in your team meetings, everything, just leave me on an island. Don't be saying that in an interview because TJ will see that. And you know, it's, he took it personally, as MJ would say, and it's just always like the biggest moments, he knows how to get in there, wreck a game. And he was able to do that. ah My favorite part of it is just like the celebrations, always you're a big fan of it.
00:06:43
Speaker
Um, yeah, it it was a great performance from the Steelers. They, they have had a tendency to lose these games in the past. It was nice to kind of just take care of business, covered the spread onto the bye week six and two. And I got to say like, I'm not going to tell you that they're a top five team in this league.
00:06:58
Speaker
But it feels, you know, when the Steelers have had these teams that have had good records midway through the season, a lot of people call them fraudulent, um, pretenders. This team feels a little bit different than that. They have the second best point differential in the NFL. And i I don't know, it just with Russ throwing the ball like that and they're not turning it over. I hope that fumble wasn't like the start of something. I just have a little bit more confidence in this team that I have in years past.
00:07:23
Speaker
There's certainly not a team you want to find yourself playing in the first round of the playoffs like that. That is something different about this team. I think that, you know, in years past, people were kind of hoping to maybe be matched up with the Steelers in that first round game. ah That's certainly not the case this year. ah Great time for the bye week. They come back from the bye week against the commanders. That'll be a huge, huge game. ah They get another kind of leapfrog in the division with the Ravens losing. We'll get to that later. But yeah, impressive, impressive Monday night for the Steelers.
00:07:52

On

Giants' Offensive Struggles & Management Critique

00:07:53
Speaker
the opposite side, not a whole lot from the Giants to really take out of this game. I mean, Tyrone Tracy's great, 145 yards. He rips out that 45 yard TD, but it looked like he got concussed at the end of the game. So another running back down.
00:08:07
Speaker
ah Darius Slayton had a big game 108 yards neighbors 7 for 72 but a bad drop at the end from neighbors like it He wanted it looked like he wanted to yell at everybody for that one, but he just couldn't Yeah, he knew he knew and it was it was just a tough game for him overall Felix Slayton was getting the more of the bigger plays I was kind of getting past Dante Jackson deep and then Malik neighbors was needed later in the game He was making good catches. He had the fourth doubt fourth and one conversion with a nice catch there But yeah, it was a tough drop in This Giants team is just in limbo, Damon. I don't understand why they're not or why they are committing to what they have. It feels like they're not blowing it up. They've committed to not only the head coach and GM, which I truly don't think is crazy because I think they have had a lot of turnover, especially at the coaching position over the past decade, but committing to Daniel Jones is.
00:08:59
Speaker
Psychotic in my opinion. Yeah, let me give you some some insult stats for DJ Benjamin ear muffs Started two and six or worse in five out of the six seasons. He's played it why He's thrown for 20 or more touchdowns in one out of the six seasons that he's started his overall record as the quarterback of the New York Giants is 24 42 and one and he has he's one in 15 in prime time the new the new prime time Kirk and he has zero passing touchdowns in six straight home games man that playoff win just absolutely has destroyed I would say the Giants outlook on their future like if they lose that playoff game and
00:09:38
Speaker
I think they're already blowing this up, but it's like it feels like that just kind of sticks in the mind of management. If you look at other teams that are in similar positions as the Giants right now, they're starting to sell. And if you really wanted to kick this thing off, you would start to kind of sell these guys. Like I know a lot of teams that could use a slate and who could use like even a tire on Tracy right now, or or maybe a single Terry, even though he's hurt. Uh, it seems like they are going to be stuck in limbo. If they don't start selling some of these pieces and really commit to a rebuild, they're likely going to be a lottery team. You can, you can restart at quarterback. Uh, it's a tough time to kind of.
00:10:15
Speaker
believe in the giant sp brass and believe that they know what they're doing and they have some pieces that you can build around belik neighbors we've mentioned he looks like he's going to be an allpro in this league ah tyrone tracy's been a great ah rookie emergence he he was awesome last night and of course dexter lawrence who's possibly the best defensive player in the NFL or or at least playing like it right now so you have pieces that you can build around I just don't understand like and one of them is just not the quarterback and they seem to be so committed to Daniel Jones like you said basically for that playoff win I think is aside from that
00:10:49
Speaker
He really hasn't done anything in this league that's proved that, you know, he's worth building around. So I don't know. The Giants have some decisions. They ah they obviously haven't fully committed to Jones, but it it looks like it looks like they are. Everything that they've said is, you know, Mora wants to keep it all together. Well, you're two and six this year. I don't see it really changing yeah next season or, you know, in the future with Jones. So I think they have some decisions to make and the quicker they do it, I think the better for for their franchise.
00:11:19
Speaker
I think Dylan Gabriel has Giants written all over him, um but will move to Sunday

49ers' Winning Streak & Cowboys' Challenges

00:11:25
Speaker
Night Football. A weird game 49ers 30 Cowboys 24 San Francisco bounces back and beats Dallas for the fourth time in a row. They just absolutely own that team. um Each team kind of had moments of looking dominant, um but San Fran really looked a lot more like themselves and and they're back to 500 now.
00:11:45
Speaker
Yeah, I put Purdie found his level. It was nice. to say I think that's a very encouraging sign after definitely his worst game of the season. ah He came back. he He had a nice, efficient game. He had the touchdown pass and it was like running the ball, extending drives, just making the plays he needed to. ah He got kiddo going, which was nice to see after, you know, you lose Iuke. I'm sure Deebo Samuel wasn't 100% after dealing with pneumonia. So it was nice to see kiddo go with six catches, 128 yards touchdown.
00:12:14
Speaker
and then Jordan Mason got injured which could have thrown a wrinkle in their game but then Garendo came through 83 yards it was it was a smooth offensive performance from the 49ers i'm I'm comfortable with where they are. I think that's a huge game for them to kind of get back to 500. That division is wide open. what We'll get into that and later in this episode, but the 49ers, that's a huge win on prime time, kind of proved to them. and And I think the league that is just like, Hey, we're we're still here. Don't forget about us. We're going to figure this thing out. I still, I would argue they're the favorites to win that division. That's not a crazy take by any means.
00:12:51
Speaker
But I'm more concerned about the other other sideline that the Dallas Cowboys have major, major problems going on. They really do. I mean, I think it it starts and ends with Dak Prescott. Like it it really does with this team. Like you could you could point to the lack of rushing attack. You could point to the fact that they've kind of been mismanaged this year.
00:13:11
Speaker
um But Dak interceptions are getting out of control. like he There is nobody in the league who throws a more interceptable ball than Dak Prescott. and And in bad, bad times of the game, he throws two interceptions for a third straight game. He's the first Cowboys quarterback to do that in 32 years. um The D'Amador-Lanore interception changed the direction of that second half. like He absolutely telecasted that throw.
00:13:37
Speaker
And it really just stalled the Cowboys like if they went out ah on that first possession and go down in March and get a touchdown. I think that second half looks a lot different, but instead the 49ers get great field position and they punch it in right away.
00:13:50
Speaker
Yeah, i like he's in a was the Cowboys turned it on late. they They look great in the fourth quarter, but the game was pretty much out of reach because, you know, the 49ers could do whatever they wanted on ah offense. And then those two interceptions pretty much was the difference in this game. And that is now a tendency, a problem, an issue.
00:14:08
Speaker
for Dak because it's it's happening consistently, three straight games like you mentioned. They also have Dalvin Cook and Ezekiel Elliott as their running backs. like This isn't 2015, this is 2024 and these guys struggle to move. Zeke had, I think it was his best game of the year and it was like 30-34 rushing yards.
00:14:29
Speaker
Dude, I think back to the Jerry Jones quote about Derek Henry didn't fit our system is maybe the craziest quote from an owner like in the past five years. Like I cannot believe that if there was even a sliver of a chance that you got get Derek Henry, maybe saying that because it they tried and it didn't work out. But if there was even a chance at getting him and they didn't jump on it, that is going to haunt them for the rest of the season, maybe for the next two years.
00:14:56
Speaker
Yeah, because there's no solution in sight right now. Obviously, you got the draft coming up in an off season, but that's this year. It's pretty much an unfixable problem from from what we've seen. Maybe somehow Delvin Cook gets juice back in his legs and week by week can improve and somehow be a a weapon. But I do not see that happening. And the the NFL record for most games with less than 70 rushing yards and giving up more than 180 is is six.
00:15:25
Speaker
the Cowboys have already done it four times this year. So they have the worst rushing attack in the league and the worst rushing defense in the NFL. i It's a serious problem. And then you got Dak throwing two interceptions every game.
00:15:38
Speaker
i Hot seat talk. Are we doing the McCart? Like is because we already have the Jerry Jones vote of confidence, which is step one ah for me. Hot seat. Are they going to wait for the season? Is this going to be a mid season thing? what What do we think is going on with McCarthy? Because I can't see this going on to next season with the way it's currently unfolding. No, to me, I think they wait to the off season. Like it's such a shit show.
00:16:05
Speaker
And seeing how the Jets have stumbled after firing a head coach kind of makes me think that they wouldn't go that far with McCarthy. But he seems to have really lost control of this team. Like I would say a benefit to Mike McCarthy in his early tenure here, it really seemed like he had his hands on the reins like he knew what was going on. He had a good control of the locker room. Now you see sideline shots of him and he just looks so confused, man. Like he he looks like he doesn't know what is going on about 99% of the time.
00:16:34
Speaker
And he's got the plaid hat on. he's He's got the beard going now. Yeah, it's a problem. And then, and you know, if you can't rush the ball, you you become the most predictable offense of all time. It's like, we know you're going to target CD lamb 20 times this game. Mix in, Zach, mix in your other receivers, your tight end. it just you I know CD lamb is the best player on your team.
00:16:57
Speaker
You can't be as predictable as you are and I don't know who's responsible for that, whether it's McCarthy, Dak, the offense coordinator, but they they just need to figure some things out and just get more creative in in their play calling. Yeah, Brandon Cook's going out just absolutely through this offense into like a tailspin. He's still not back and You're right. They're just force feeding CD lamb and it's easy for defenses to kind of predict that you'll get your garbage time TVs. But again, another game where it's just too little too late ah for Dallas. They have Atlanta on Sunday, man. What a confusing game that is. It feels like that should be a game where Atlanta should should be able to take care of business. But I don't have a ton of faith in them either. they They're kind of back and forth.
00:17:40
Speaker
49ers go to Tampa Bay. I think 49ers are on the buy as well. So they go to Tampa Bay after the buy. ah So that'll be a big game for them as well. um But we will move to Commanders 18, Bears 15. What a fucking insane end to this game, man. that The Commanders steal a must-win game, I would say, for the Bears on a last-second Hail Mary.
00:18:05
Speaker
Shacked in a full winner of the week, Tyrek Stevenson taunting the Commander's fans, joins the play late, loses his guy, Brown comes down with the tipped ball. He's the one who tipped it to him. I shudder to think of what it looks like for him in that film room, in that locker room after that comes out. I've never seen something like that in an NFL game. I don't know if anything's going to happen to him. And I think that's the issue with the Chicago Bears culture.
00:18:33
Speaker
Yeah, Matt Eberfluis in the post game said he apologized to the team and he apologized on social media. So I think that shows great accountability. Well, maybe you shouldn't have just done it in the first place and maybe you should actually hold him accountable, Eberfluis, and show accountability from yourself.
00:18:49
Speaker
Cause if he has a clue, like Tyreek Stevenson is not starting next week, right? Like it's, you have to lay the, you have to punish him in some capacity because I also think no, not only did he teeth tip the pass, I think because he was covering that back corner of the end zone, he should have been like the janitor kind of just cleaning up everything from behind. Cause he's the last guy into that pile. So I think not only did he tip it, but I think Noah Brown was his guy that he was responsible for.
00:19:17
Speaker
So it was just a calamity of errors from Stevenson and the Bears in general, man. I think obviously the Hail Mary was a crazy play, but I think that 15 yard out to Maclaurin when you're just, you know, Jayden Daniels isn't going to throw that ball 75 yards, whatever it would have been from that, uh, with eight seconds left. You can't just give them 15 free yards. You have to at least pretend that you're going to play.
00:19:39
Speaker
some sort of of press coverage or a zone that like takes out the middle of the field they were in the end zone when the commanders were at their own 33 somewhere around there so i don't know it's just bad coaching and i don't know it just sums up the bears it just does of eberfluis eberfluis goes on esp and a thousand in chicago and goes the play before the hell mary i'm not concerned about like it it it Those are fireable offenses, man. He is a defensive head coach and you're playing. You're right. Prevent full on prevent with 75 yards to go on the opposite side. Dan Quinn said that play is the one you need. If we don't get that pass to Maclaurin, then we're out of gas. I don't know how you can have two such two differing statements on that play. He also claimed that Doug Kramer run wasn't a bad call. They give, you know, the refrigerator Perry play.
00:20:34
Speaker
terrible, terrible fumble. Also claim that the Hail Mary wasn't poorly coached. You have Bears players saying that they wish they took a time out so that they could have time to really figure out that play. These are fireable offenses, Patrick. Like these, if you look at a head coach, you can't have any of those three things happen.
00:20:54
Speaker
And he doesn't wear it. I find the best coaches kind of wear it. They, they admit when they're wrong and in they're accountable. And I think even flukes really struggles with that. He always just has that clue. Like big cat always, man. He's got that clueless look too, which just never helps a head coach. It's, I don't know, man. It's so, it's so bad for them because this is a game that yeah they were up with 23 seconds left. I believe it was. They had no business having the lead in this game. The commanders.
00:21:21
Speaker
They were going up and down the field and then just stalling out in the red zone. They had the Zach Hertz weird, another weird catch thing. They had the ineligible man downfield. It was just it was just bad from them. And I don't know what to really say, because it feels like the commanders are having one of those years where things are really going right. And they're a feel good story. Then the Bears somehow they're trying to create a new culture and start this new era of a football team.
00:21:48
Speaker
and it's still it still just comes back to them and and just hits them in the face every time. It's it's not good for them. Do you mention this, I believe, in the Aaron Rodgers first half Hail Mary um from two weeks ago?
00:22:04
Speaker
They only rushed three and they had a spy dude. They had a quarterback spy from 54 yards, I believe was the number of of the throw. Who, why are you having a spy first off? And I think a lot of coaches are now going to learn from this and start blitzing five, maybe even six, because the quicker you get to the quarterback,
00:22:24
Speaker
the less time, the less distance you're going to throw the ball. So Maddie Eberfluis is being like a study for other coaches of what not to do. No kidding, man. And I talked about it in that Lions Vikings game because the Lions brought five against Sam Darnold and ended that game with a huge sack. Like it it seems to me that you have to at least rush four, like it, it especially With Jane Daniels being on bruised ribs like he was injured throughout the week. ah You gotta to make him feel some pressure in that the bear or the.
00:22:56
Speaker
commanders's ah offensive lineman were just throwing around those three guys like it. They had no chance of getting to him um that Washington required 481 net yards. That was their highest total of the season. Nobody had even gotten close to that against this Bears defense. So if you're lead if this Bears defense is about or if this Bears team is about defense, the defense didn't really show up. If it's about offense, the offense had 172 yards of offense going into the fourth quarter.
00:23:24
Speaker
So many questions. You're right. You try to build a culture with this team and the same mistakes, the same type of things that plague team culture are happening again. They go to Arizona next Sunday in a game that I don't feel confident in them about, it which is crazy to say against this Cardinals team. And the commanders get to have the Giants next Sunday. So still a game they have to take care of. It's an indivision game. That'll be a close game. But it looks like the commanders will continue to stack wins here.
00:23:53
Speaker
versus the Bears who need wins desperately and can't seem to get them. um Moving to Bills 31, Seahawks 10. All right, Bills fans. All right. You know, I said fraud watch. I was arguing with an anonymous Bills fan in our Instagram comments section back and forth. Let's not pretend the Seahawks team is fucking great. All right. But more importantly, Buffalo stopped the run. Josh Allen, yes, two touchdown passes, um but they stopped, held the Seahawks to 32 rush yards. The first time this defense has allowed less than 85 yards on the ground. Seemed like this was a step forward for Buffalo's defense more than anything.
00:24:34
Speaker
Yeah, I think we, you had the wrong team in this matchup on fraud watch. I think the Seahawks are horrible. I really do. I think they're a bad football team. And especially when you're not, they're known for their offense this year, right? Gino Smith's going to sling the ball 40 times. He's going to have 300 passing yards, probably sacked five times, but that's okay.
00:24:53
Speaker
They couldn't do anything and they got their touchdown in garbage time. Gino had the fourth and one, uh, just cartoon cartoon fall. It was incredible. Uh, yeah, I think the Seahawks are a really bad team and I, I'm going to respect the bills. I, they're six and two. They've already locked up the division. You can you know give it to them now.
00:25:13
Speaker
I feel confident, man, because it feels like there's less individuals on this team. it's ah It's a collective unit. Everyone wants to get their touches in. And I think Josh Allen throwing his first interception of the year is somehow good for him, right? I think it's like out of the way. yeah can I don't know if it was changing this style of play.
00:25:33
Speaker
but I think he's gonna be more confident now it's out of the way and he's just not gonna be scared of anything and I think the Bills are in a perfect spot because we got guy like kids I had the same reaction right where I was just the Bills haven't really proved a ton to me but obviously they're good at their winning games but now man it's just they're flying slightly under the radar they're winning games they already have their home field in the playoffs for at least one game I think they're in a good spot and I think the Bills are gonna continue to rack up wins Yeah, I tend to agree with you. This was kind of, you know, I said it was going to be a measuring stick game and I was looking for a lot from the bills and they delivered. Like they had two TD drives of 90 yards or more in the first half alone. James Cook has another monster game, 117 yards, two TDs. He's looking like he has finally like reached his peak, not even peak, but like reached his full form as a running back. You really trust him with the ball now. ah Keon Coleman, shout out Dino Talk Sports. He did this whole video.
00:26:29
Speaker
on how the Bills are just perfectly using Keon Coleman. His pre-draft strengths were like big athletic, great contested catch guy, not a great route runner. And they're not making him do a ton of crazy routes. Like he's running fades pretty much all game or just short screen passes. You see him go up on Tyreek Woolen, who is the tallest corner in the league and, and mosses him in the end zone.
00:26:54
Speaker
Uh, it just seems like this wide receiving core is very deep this year, very talented, knows exact. Each guy knows exactly what he has to do and isn't being asked to do more than that. Like we've seen in the past with Stefan Diggs, um, they host Miami on Sunday. They're going to fucking kill the dolphins like that. There is no question about that. Uh, Seahawks go to the Rams on Sunday. That's another huge indivision game there.
00:27:20
Speaker
You're right, that that division is so up for grabs. ah I can see the Rams winning that game and and being all of a sudden back kind of in the driver's seat or or at least trailing ah close behind in that division. But yeah, this was a game where it took a ton from the Bills, even less from the Seahawks. like yeah i am I've got all sorts of questions for the Seahawks now.
00:27:42
Speaker
it ah They haven't figured it out since Pete Carroll's left, if you ask me. i i They've committed to Gino Smith as a somewhat long-term option, or at least longer than I thought they would. I thought Gino Smith it was a one, two year, like a transition period guy before you find your next quarterback of the future. Gino Smith has always been this guy. it's you know He struggled to, I guess, do it earlier in his career and actually get the stats that he's been racking up since he's been with Seattle.
00:28:11
Speaker
But it it you you always revert back to what you are and in times that in big games, ah when you play better teams, it's you always revert back to what you are. And I think Geno Smith is a below average quarterback in the NFL who can fool some people because he has a good arm and throws a ball a ton and he has.
00:28:30
Speaker
One of the best receiving rooms in the NFL like a top five ah Receiving room and it's just he's bet he's benefited from that But when they can't run the ball like they weren't able to against the bills and you know Geno's throwing it like that it's over I think any team can stop the Seattle passing attack if they aren't able to run the ball and We saw it against the bills the bills are a much better team than Seattle in Seattle. They're four and four I'm not saying that their seasons over or they're gonna be a bottom fight like drafting top five and You got to find a way to get wins and and somehow stay in this division because I truly, I have no idea what's going to happen in this NFC West. Yeah. And the NFC in general is an absolute dog fight. Like you're going to have to have at the very least 10 wins to even be in the mix here down the line. They're fighting guys on the sidelines. Like Derek Hall's getting into fist fights on the sidelines. Uh, they have three personal fouls called
00:29:23
Speaker
Center snapping the ball all over the place like things that you would kind of point to coaching and being like Doesn't seem like the coach really has a great handle on this room. So ah You know people were early to crown Mike McDonald as you know the next kind of it kid in in the NFL as a coach but starting to see that it's not so easy to control the locker room like that like Pete Carroll was so good at doing and We will move ah to Falcons 31, Bucks 26. Falcons are my new my new Cardinals like a a complete Jekyll and Hyde team. Cousins throws for four touchdowns as the Falcons move to 4-0 in division play.
00:30:02
Speaker
They take a commanding lead, like essentially a two game lead, even though they only have one more win over the box right now. We were talking some shit about the Falcons defense. I, I, they did allow Baker to throw for 330 yards and three touchdowns, but much better week from the Falcons defense here. Jesse Bates has a great interception there. AJ Tyrell, great play on the ball to like really timely interceptions for QB hits. Still no s sacks, um but a better game from the Falcons overall and a better game from the Falcons defense.
00:30:32
Speaker
Yeah, the Falcons, the Falcons love to pass the ball against the Buccaneers. The first time they played Kirk Cousins through for over like 500 yards, four touchdowns, the whole deal. And then he goes out again, another four touchdown passes. Like you said, Mooney and Pitts both went over 90 yards, Pitts with two touchdowns, Mooney with one. They look great on offense, but like the defense is going to have to be a problem because, you know, you look over there, they're October.
00:31:00
Speaker
They went three out of four games and all of their wins, they've had to put up 30 or more points. That stuff's not sustainable. I know they do have a good offense. It is probably one of the better offenses in the NFL, but you've got to learn to win some games ugly. Get Bijon and get Algier involved in the game. This one didn't require it. It was a very fun back and forth affair.
00:31:24
Speaker
But I'm happy with the Falcons. It feels like this, because they're 4-0 in the division, 2-0 over the box, they're in the driver's seat for sure to win this division. And it's just you've got to be able to handle yourself in these out of division games and find a way to 9 and 8, 10 and 7. You've won this division because that NFC South record is They might, they, it's tough to go six and all in your division and they are, they're staring it right in the face with the saints and the Panthers left. Yeah, no kidding. And you mentioned the defense, like you're not going to be playing an NFC South team at home in the playoffs. So these are the kinds of things where like in a stacked NFC, you could be playing a 10 win team and 11 win team in the first round of the playoffs. So. It will come at the Falcons fast here. Gotta kinda clean these things up when you can. You mentioned Kyle Pitts, two touchdowns. Cade Otten for the Bucks offense, stepped up big, two touchdowns. What do we think of National Tight Ends Day, since we're on the the topic of tight ends?
00:32:25
Speaker
I don't know how to feel about it. I go back and forth. It's cool, but it also seems corny I don't know the tight ends love it and they were kind of if we were talking about this with a couple other people they it feels like they do force the ball to tight ends just a little bit more or they put them in the game plan a little bit more especially in the red zone felt like the the tight ends were scoring just Ab normally more than they would ah oh yeah But i don't know it kate on is now the number one receiver by a long shot on the box and. It's there in a weird spot without evans and godwin right now because they need someone to step up and it feels like they're there were. They're running backs are there number two and three receivers at this point they need like a jail mcmillan.
00:33:10
Speaker
Sterling Sheppard, Trey Palm, or someone to just step up and be a solid option because you teams can take away a tight end pretty easily. And I think teams are going to really start to do that until Mike Evans returns. But I mean, if Kate on continues to put up the numbers that he has, well, one game, but he's been good all year, but it's going to be easy for them to be stopped. And they just need to figure it out because they were not running the ball well. And you're just trying shit to like they they have a fake punt play that doesn't turn out. Well, inter the the second half, they started interception, turnover downs, interception on the first three drives, like just so clearly already missing those two top dogs and to the game where they kind of need a Mike Evans to just run a goal ball. They don't have that guy anymore. Like, and he's going to be out for the next two games at the very least. They could go on like an 0 and 3 stretch here at about Buccaneers have Kansas City on next Monday night like that.
00:34:06
Speaker
It might be a 10-point spread. And then the 49ers after that. So they need to find a way to win one of those two games if they weren't going to win this one. ah Kyle Pitts, he got away with one, man. He got away with one. I think that ball was popped out before the goal line. And somehow, the NFL doesn't have a goal line cam. But I'm pretty sure there's a camera in those pylons that they always love to advertise and and get ad revenue for. So why didn't we? like it's Maybe they didn't have it because they didn't sell the pylon cam this week.
00:34:35
Speaker
I don't know, but that was a football man and yeah you look at the score 3126. It changes the game. Yeah. I don't know that. Well, he was up there with Tyree Stevenson. If that happened, he was shacked in a full candidate or winner of the week. I don't know how you do that in the NFL. Like that's such a college thing to do. When you get in the NFL, you like you should be running into the back of the end zone every time just to make sure that it doesn't happen. That was insane.
00:35:00
Speaker
Yeah. Pitts has been so deprived of touchdowns. He just kind of forgot how to act and he was like two in one game. He he couldn't believe it. He is. He, he may have had the best tight end stay. yeah he He celebrated the hardest big time. Um, we will move to by far the biggest upset of the week. Uh, as Jamis Winston leads the Browns 29, 24 over the ratings.
00:35:22
Speaker
Ravens were a nine and a half point favorite. Yes, I took them with a pick. What an idiot I am. ah Winston throws three touchdown passes to stop Cleveland's five game losing skid, puts the Browns past the 20 point mark for the first time this season. It was always to Sean.
00:35:40
Speaker
Yes, it was very evident that it was the Shawn. This is the first time the Browns put on more than 20 points this season and the first time they've thrown for over 300 yards since the Shawn Walton has put on the Browns uniform. that like That is right there. The proof is right there for you. Ownership of the Browns, GM,
00:35:59
Speaker
It's the fans. He's just a puppet at this point, so I don't blame him. But yes, this is clearly unlocked the offense for the Browns. And it's not perfect. It was it's never perfect with Jamis. He's he's chaotic. He's he's fun. He's he's whatever. But it's it's better for the Browns. And I think Browns fans the season may be over and and it's all it's it's tough for them. But I think they're finally able to smile.
00:36:22
Speaker
And and just like cheer and be a fan in a game like this especially beating Baltimore Ravens right there They were on a five game streak of their own for winning and it's just that's that's a big big swing yeah Baltimore's got to win these games in the division man and but Cleveland being able to steal one Jamis with all the all the quotes all all the quotes I Side note, I might be out on Jamis. I think this is kind of the same, man. I mean, it might be because he's put the Browns uniform on and I just it's become a little corny for me. Yeah, it it's a lot like staring directly into the camera to, you know, the Eminem quote, the white boy up the road in Detroit. like It's funny, but it feels more like we're laughing at Jamis Winston now instead of laughing with him, which I think is the big difference.
00:37:10
Speaker
And I don't know him personally, but it feels like he's doing it on purpose. Like he's really trying to get these quotes out, get the reactions from people. I just it's it's slowly becoming corny and maybe if he's winning and in I just can't tell I think it was fun when he was a backup and he wasn't playing but now that he's playing it's just like alright dude just go out and play the football play football do do what you're supposed to do uh but I don't know the Browns defense was a key in this game Damien they were they stopped Baltimore and got them off the field when they needed to the Ravens were two of ten on third down and 0 and two on fourth down so
00:37:48
Speaker
The Browns being able to get Derek Henry and Lamar Jackson off the field and get their offensive on the field was a huge part in them winning this game. Then this obviously the Cedric Tillman 38 yard touchdown reception with just over a minute left or just under a minute left. That was the difference in the game. It was one of those games where it's like whoever had the ball last felt like they were going to win it. And I was scared. It was it was like when Baltimore was going down that field, it felt like another Hail Mary possibly coming out. Yeah. Full James experience there at the end.
00:38:16
Speaker
Throws a ball that looks like he was targeting Kyle Hamilton like if you see the back view of it Like it it clearly sails over it looks like he's targeting Hamilton Hamilton bobbles the ball about a thousand times No interception and then the very next play he hits Tillman on that 38-yard bomb Like Kyle Hamilton lost the Ravens this game like it it sounds crazy to say because there's obviously you shouldn't have been in that situation they could have done a lot of things differently, but I That was the difference. like That loss ultimately kind of hangs on him, which is crazy to say. Yeah, and Rashad Bateman had that massive drop. on like That would have been and ah put them on the brown side of the field first down. It's little things in the games that add up, right? And especially when you're playing a division rival, it's always going to be a so ah tighter game than usual. and And these were the differences in the game.
00:39:09
Speaker
And just I don't know it Baltimore it was it was it felt like the Browns were gonna Brown again when when the Ravens are going down the field um They got they just kept getting yards kept getting yards and then it was getting to point where it wasn't even a Hail Mary It was you're in almost instant in the red zone throwing four shots at the end zone Someone's gonna catch this ball here. The Browns were able to avoid disaster and you know Just just breathe life into a team that had none before this game. I Henry MVP train probably died with this game so I can now sleep happily at night. He's still on pace to do 2,000 yards, probably have about 19, 20 touchdowns. um But thankfully, I can sleep a bit better at night. But yeah, I can't help but feel like the Ravens are going to really miss this game down the line, especially with the Steelers winning on Monday night. Denzel Ward got his fifth concussion in seven years, medically retired. I don't know.
00:40:01
Speaker
I'm just going to slide that in. um But we will move to Lions 52, Titans 14. The Lions embarrassed the Titans to an insane degree. And now I would say officially look like the best team in the NFL. like it You can say it.
00:40:16
Speaker
I'm so ready to crown them. I'm so ready to. I almost want to just give them the Super Bowl. I love our invisible power rankings. Like we talk like we run power rankings every week, but we we don't. um This was a confusing box score. If you didn't watch the game, you would have no idea essentially how the Lions won this game.
00:40:34
Speaker
ah Jared Goff goes 12 for 15, 85 yards, three touchdowns, um but it was special teams. Like we mentioned it earlier about the Steelers having one of the best special teams units. The Lions are right up there. ah They get a 72 yard kick return. Cleef Raymond gets a 90 yard punt return.
00:40:51
Speaker
Yet five punt returns for a hundred and ninety yards I mean between that and the interceptions that Mason Rudolph through the line started drives Practically in the red zone every single time they converted on all five times. They were in the red zone Defense forced four turnovers like this was just a dominant game, man Dominant is is the right word and it started off as a weird one It felt like the the titans were going to be in this game a little bit. It was 1414 mason rudolph Scrambled into the end zone. That's when I I was I was worried the the lines are one of my picks this week through the podcast And I was I was go of course, of course This is the week that the titans decide to show up show some fight and in be in a game Thankfully that the worries were quickly quickly gone
00:41:40
Speaker
that the lions it was just you know gives rips off that seventy yard touchdown run i think aside from that if it feels like they're really trying to push this golf mvp train cuz they were just throwing the ball into the end zone man in their chances to run it and you have that you have uh... montgomery you got gives you got to elite running backs and in like your You're running up the score for your third, your fourth, your fifth touchdown of the game, and they're all passing touchdowns. I'm I'm staying woke on this Dan Campbell forcing the the golf MVP train. I think there's something there because the the the positive stats going out about Jared Goff, like first player in a five game span in NFL history to have ah the highest completion percentage, 83 percent, highest pass rating, 146 and a half. I think that's pretty much as high as it goes, almost.
00:42:30
Speaker
um It's just you're you're kind of right there and I talked preseason about Jared Goff dome season. They're playing inside practically all the time ah and he's kind of up there right now for MVP leaders.
00:42:43
Speaker
they have a plus 73 point differential over the last three games scored 40 plus in three of the last four they're leading the NFC North now they've won five straight franchise is best seven game record since 1956 like everything is just lining up like last season it seemed like the Lions were You know, it it was crowning them as a competitor as maybe, ah you know, a true contender. Now they are a full on juggernaut. um it They go at Green Bay next Sunday, another huge, huge indivision game, another huge prove it game for them. Like if they go out and kill Green Bay or like win that game by touchdown or more, then it's like, OK, it's on right now. You're kind of penciling them in if you're not already for the NFC Championship.
00:43:29
Speaker
Absolutely. And it's just, they're so dominant, man. And I know this wasn't necessarily the the measuring stick game against the Tennessee Titans. And I'll be very interested against the Green Bay Packers. Like how will it the missing Aiden Hutchinson affect the team against the real and NFC North, like a real battle?
00:43:49
Speaker
That is going to be something I'm going to keep my eye on next week, but this week it it did not matter. You and I could have been on that defensive line and and the score might have been the same. it It was it was just dominance from the second quarter onwards and.
00:44:01
Speaker
I've got to like their chances against Green Bay. It just feels like they're such a well oiled machine right now. and We don't know what's going on with Jordan Love necessarily. And it's just the, the lines, man, I, I mean, I went to go check the odds, but if they win next week, I think they have to be the Superbowl favorite. I like I'm, I'm there. They look so much better than the chiefs have and they've, you know, stayed as the favorite.
00:44:25
Speaker
but i'm I'm ready to crown these lions, man. Maybe this will come back in my face. there but So the Chiefs are plus 400, Ravens and Lions are tied at plus 650. I like the Lions. Yeah, I like the Lions too. On the opposite side of the ball, Titans extend their streak of throwing an interception in every game. ah Calvin Ridley,
00:44:45
Speaker
match the career high with 10 reception had a season high 143 yards. He's getting traded within like the next 10 days. We'll try and call our shot here with another Titans trade. I can't see him staying on that roster much longer. ah They host New England next Sunday in the most disgusting matchup maybe in the in the NFL this season. um We will move to Cardinals 28, Dolphins 27, Patrick. This, maybe aside from the Titans game, but I'm going to actually crown this one. This was the absolute worst loss of the season for the Dolphins. And Mike McDaniel just does not have what it takes. I am i amm there now with Mike McDaniel. ah He coached to not lose this game instead of coaching to win this game.
00:45:30
Speaker
In the fourth quarter, Arizona goes on drives of 75 yards in a touchdown, then 70 yards in a touchdown on back-to-back drives to go down 25-27. The Dolphins then go eight plays 23 yards and punt back the ball. No gain, a one-yard pass, an incomplete pass for the last three drive or for the last three plays of that drive.
00:45:54
Speaker
They give Arizona the ball back with under five minutes to play. They go 13, play 73 yards, eat up all the time on the clock, kick a game-winning field goal. like As soon as they punted the ball, I tweeted out, Cardinals are going to go drain the clock, walk this one off of the field goal. And it seems like you can just game-cast Dolphins games right now. With Tua back in that game, you should not still be coaching like that, like you have Tyler Huntley. It was awful, man.
00:46:21
Speaker
Dude, I was so pumped for you in it early in that game. Tua would look confident out there. They had the you know the old trick plays. Everything seemed to be working. 10-0 right out of the gates. I go, the Dolphins are back. And I and i was thinking you know those that loss last week that's really going to hurt them in in the playoff picture because I think the Dolphins look good. And I think they can be competitive with Tua. And then that safety felt like it really turned that game around. And then, like you said, it just started happening right in front of your eyes. was Bounces started going the Cardinals way. The Dolphins just kind of forgot how to play football and it just changed, man. And it's, it's tough. It's, it's really tough, but yeah, I think they gave McDaniel that extension far too early for not really having a playoff win, not having really a ton to stand on aside from a couple of playoff appearances and a fun offense. And then when the offense isn't fun,
00:47:14
Speaker
It quickly turns gimmicky and sad and kind of embarrassing and it in a way, but it's it's tough. Spin zone for you. Spin zone. Our Cardinals are now leading the NFC West and they've won back to back games. They have. They snapped the streak. Our Cardinals ah just kind of.
00:47:32
Speaker
They game-planned well. Like, you're getting out-coached by Jonathan Gannon in this game. That is the crazy thing about it. Trey McBride and Marvin Harrison Jr. were practically unguardable in this. Like McBride, 9 receptions, 124 yards. Harrison Jr., 6 receptions, 111 yards.
00:47:48
Speaker
Bad game from Anthony Weaver, the DC in Miami, like just shredding shredding Miami zone defense. They could not get pressure on Murray to save their lives. You want to talk Chris Greer looks like Chop Robinson is like going to be an all time bad draft pick from them, especially when you look who went after chop. Would love to have a Jared verse on my team right now. They Murray goes 26 for 36 307 two TDs.
00:48:14
Speaker
I might not even watch that Bills game like I might take a mental health break because it's going to be so ugly. It's in Buffalo um Cardinals go on to host the Bears at home. They still lead the division. I like the Cardinals in that game. This was it it felt you're right like it felt like the Dolphins were back to being watchable and then all of a sudden they weren't like all of a sudden they was no longer fun to watch.
00:48:35
Speaker
Are we are we worried about Jalen Ramsey? Very. He he had a ah tipped ball early in this game and it was like, oh, my God, there's Jalen Ramsey. Maybe he's going to like snap back into it. He's getting cooked every fucking week. Yeah, it's you know, I wasn't super dialed in on the on the X's and O's. I was just kind of glancing at the screen, keep an eye on the game. And then I went on Twitter and it just it was like Jalen. Marvin Harrison Jr. is cooking Jalen Ramsey, Trey McBride, you know, just like everyone.
00:49:04
Speaker
Yeah, it's tough it's tough, man. It's you want this season over as soon as possible. But hey, like what you were you happy with Tua? like it was yeah yeah I was happy with Tua. He had the rust of a guy who hasn't played in in four games. like I think he had three fumbles. There was four total team fumbles. He still seems to have like a weird connection with their center. It just seems like if it's not one thing, it's another. um I thought some passes he threw were like, bam, like that is what this ah offense is.
00:49:30
Speaker
um It's so clear that he is the heart and soul of this team like that is the one thing like moving forward There's no questions about to in that sense. He is the center of this team you build around him Will Campbell LSU I want you like I this is my my pitch to him come live in Miami, man You you can stay in the south ah But I'm hoping at this point that they get a lottery pick and they take an offensive tackle. That's the point I I'm at in this season. Also wish we took pen a soul instead of jail model. Very clear now that we can say that like just clear.
00:50:02
Speaker
Yeah, that kind of, he feels, I guess it's not going to happen this year, but that's another trade candidate for sure where, you know, everyone kind of thought he was, yeah, entire shadow kind of thing. He's one of the best number two receivers in the NFL. Maybe he's just, he's, he's just a number two. you' He's just a number two receiver, which is fine. <unk>re You're going to get paid. You're going to live a good life in the NFL, but it's just the the shine is worn off with him big time.
00:50:29
Speaker
Big time, we will move to another hilarious, hilarious upset. Pats 25, Jets 22. The Patriots had the opportunity to do the funniest thing of all time, and that's what they did. I mean, now second last in the AFC for the Jets.
00:50:46
Speaker
which is truly saying something in an AFC that is just ridiculously bad. The Jets have five straight losses, two straight losses in games that they were favored in. Is this like truly rock bottom for the Jets?
00:51:00
Speaker
Yes. And I, I'm shame on me. Shame on you. How do we not take the jets in the, in the hopeless franchise drafts? It's just a complete oversight because this is as sad as it gets you with the meme was going around with the the office meme with a young Michael Scott and his old boss, like highest expectations in 20 years. And then Patriots lowest expectations in 25 years, both two and six.
00:51:25
Speaker
Both two at six split the season series two. It's it's so bad for the Jets and they've run out of moves, man. yeah You every week, right? They're trying to do something to change it up and you've run out of moves. It's getting to the point where it's like, OK, now we need the GM fired. So that that might happen any day now. ah We'll see. It's it's the the the situation is in flux with the Jets. You just never know what's going to happen. And yeah, Aaron Rodgers is a sad quarterback, dude, it is. He can't move.
00:51:55
Speaker
the the arm isn't there. He hasn't thrown for 300 yards since 2021. That's a fun stat. I got another fun stat. The the jet stats are, they're not even insult stats. They're just hilarious to me. ah Teams who, this one's from Moravsky, teams who score 20 plus points.
00:52:12
Speaker
didn't turn the ball over and allow fewer than 250 yards were 750 and 0 going into that game. There is now a one in the column and that is the New York Jets. That's rock bottom, like officially officially rock bottom. It it doesn't get worse than that. The bottom seven teams in the AFC have 13 combined wins. All seven teams have two or less wins.
00:52:36
Speaker
and their wins are at the titans and the Patriots like you can't even point to good wins to them like that is the point of the season we're at right now I don't even know where to begin like I don't know how Greg Zerline hasn't been cut already he's only 19% rostered on fantasy like ah however much stock you put into fantasy if a kicker is like under 20% rostered that's insane to say he's goes one of two on field goals one of two on PATs and the Jets lose by three like that is the difference in this game he has six misses on 15 attempts this season that is just outrageously bad and it's just a kicker you like just let him go it's it's so easy for a kicker you you know you're not locked up in a contract there's no there's no term there's no he's not making that much money and he's old and he's over the hill and he's not good at kicking anymore and it's costing you games not to say that you know you're some super bowl team and
00:53:32
Speaker
You shouldn't, it shouldn't come down to your kicker to win or lose these games, but it does sometimes. And if he's going to consistently miss extra points and field goals, it's sad, but it's, it's exactly what the jets are, man. And, and they're kind of asking for it in a way by not like doing anything. Maybe, maybe you feel bad. Maybe, you know, you'll love the guy. He's great in the locker room.
00:53:55
Speaker
Don't cut him, but bring in another kicker. There's enough roster spots where you can do there's ways around this and they haven't done anything. Oh, another world loss. He quote. He said the acquisition of Aaron Rodgers is the worst in NFL history.
00:54:09
Speaker
it's It's up there. I don't know if it's the worst. I think there's a situation in Cleveland that's also pretty bad, but it's just, he just sucks the soul out of this team, Damien. And I don't even, I don't even, you can't even call them a team that they, they do not roster a team. That is a bunch of individuals s out there playing for themselves and playing only for the interest on the last names of their Jersey. And it just shows, man. And this team is hopeless.
00:54:33
Speaker
And it's just it's over. it If you if anyone tries to convince you that the Jets can do something, make the playoffs, do anything, just slap them in the face. Just just slap them in the face, dude. It's it's sad, man. But the Jets, I don't know. They it they just kind of deserve it in a way for some reason. I don't know why. if you don but I don't know. I've never I've just always kind of ignored the Jets. And but now you want to be in the spotlight and we still have to deal with them in prime time for the rest of the year. It's it's awful.
00:55:02
Speaker
Yeah, it is awful. Albrecht used all three timeouts in the first quarter. He seems to be over his head a little bit. Still can't get a win. like I've never seen a team not be able to get a win for an interim head coach like this either. like It seems like you know that that was the thing bringing in Albrecht. He was like, they love this guy. They really get up for this guy. I'm not seeing that. I'm not seeing this team get up for him. He called the loss a moment of darkness.
00:55:27
Speaker
Aaron Rodgers says, I've been in the darkness. You gotta go in there and make peace with it. Shut, shut the fuck up Aaron Rodgers. Shut up. Beauty alert from Aaron Rodgers. It's insane. Like he goes for two 33 and two touchdowns. Garrett Wilson 113 yards, Breece Hall 80 yards, and they still can't win. Like this is like the Bills game. Like they, they're getting great kind of you know good performances from their offensive weapons and they still can't win. Absolutely rock bottom for the Jets. I can't even stop my talking about them anymore. um We will move to our last full game preview here. Eagles 37, Bengals 17. The Eagles have a true get right game in this one and win the measuring stick match
00:56:07
Speaker
While keeping the Bengals winless at home this season. ah Do you think we were maybe maybe a bit too harsh on the Eagles like this seems like a team that now that it has their weapons back from early season injuries. This is what they were supposed to look like.
00:56:22
Speaker
Yeah, I was exactly what I wanted to talk about. um I'm not going to apologize to Nick Sirianni because he he acts like a child. And that that take for me will not change. He acts like a child. But maybe that somehow resonates with the team that he's coaching, which is shocking for a bunch of grown men in a locker room that that that somehow gets through to them. But hey, there's there's six and two. Their Saquon Barkley drop pass away from being seven and one.
00:56:49
Speaker
their offense is humming man aj brown when he plays their 4-0 and he just always seems to like make huge plays for them they they still start a little slow i don't know if that's going to be a concern when they start playing better teams they need first quarter touchdowns they haven't been able to get them haven't been able to get first quarter points patrick they have no first quarter points in in seven or in eight games for some reason i thought that that field goal came in the first quarter but I stand corrected and yeah, it's, it's good though for the Eagles, man. They, they turn it on in the second half. The Vic Fangio defense is somehow it's taken it to mold and it's working and they seem to be buying in a lot more than I, than I thought they were. It was all just.
00:57:29
Speaker
a hypothesis from what I was watching on the sidelines and it looked earlier in the season like the Eagles were kind of spiraling. It just looked chaotic. But right now, it's a well-oiled machine and I tip my cap to the Eagles and Nick Sirianni, they are contenders in the NFC. Yeah, it feels like the Bills almost that they're kind of in like a good spot of being under the radar a bit. Like this is kind of better than going, you know, out to a 10-1 start and having all the eyes on you in the NFC. They're chasing the commanders, man. Like that,
00:57:59
Speaker
Commanders don't have that division locked up, even though it might seem like it. ah They could still end up with a home playoff game here. 397 yards on offense. Davante Smith finally had that bounce back game after being injured. Barkley just seems to run for 100 yards. like It's nothing. like It seems like every time you look at the TV, he's running for a big game, catching for a big game.
00:58:21
Speaker
ah Really like them look ahead. ah They can build even more momentum against the Jags If they sit in the seventh seed right now ah in the playoff picture But they're gonna be battling all year for that division on the other side of the ball Patrick This Cincy team is just full of mistakes, man. Following the Burrow interception, the Eagles drive 85 yards, eat up eight minutes of clock, and get a touchdown to go to up 34-17. After that, Mike Gisicki fumbles that leads to another field goal. They had 58 rushing yards in this game, man. like I don't know if there's a team in the league right now missing a guy more than the Bengals are missing Joe Mixon.
00:59:01
Speaker
Yes, that that is that is key to that team and T Hagan seems to be going so hard in practice every week that he just comes away with a new injury. on on It's always on like a Thursday or a Friday. It's like, dude, you're almost through the week. We're almost at walkthroughs and you still somehow get injured.
00:59:17
Speaker
That, that came out, like that showed very much in this game. And this defense is a real, real problem. Like Joe burrow can't throw for 300 yards and three touchdowns every single game. And in this game, you know, where you only put up 17 points, you need your defense to make some plays, make it ugly, getting a bit of a grudge match. And they, and they weren't able to do that. And they haven't been able to do it all year. So when Joe burrow has his, you know,
00:59:42
Speaker
B B minus C plus game you get it just chalk it up as a loss Yeah, because they they they can't defend they give up points that well and then now the offense is starting to make some mistakes It's it's tough since he's in a weird spot though, man You touched on the ah AFC playoff picture a little bit with the Jets since he was a team I kind of wanted to get into it with because they're now you know, they're three and five and it's not encouraging but but the AFC stinks the AFC stinks there there's seven teams below them and they're they're uh they're three and five like i mentioned the Chargers are in the last wild card spot at four and three the Colts are one spot ahead of them at four and one spot out at four and four
01:00:26
Speaker
I don't trust the Broncos at five and three. The Ravens, you can pretty much count them in as as a playoff team. Someone between the Broncos, Chargers, Colts and Bengals, two of those teams are getting into the playoffs. And I, for some reason, this could be the Jets kind of, you know, thing where everyone says their season's not over. I want to say since he like, I think they can do this.
01:00:50
Speaker
I think they can make the playoffs. I think they can either, which is crazy to say, like they're going to have to win a lot of games. Like they go Raiders next week, which is, you know, ah hopefully a game that they can just batter the Raiders, look good on defense. And they got that but big week 10 Ravens matchup. Then they go Chargers into the bye week. So if you can go two and one into the bye week, you're kind of starting that phase. They finished the season with Titans, Browns, Broncos, Steelers. Like it's there. Like I think they can make the playoffs too.
01:01:19
Speaker
They might not be a team that you kind of want to play in the playoffs, like especially as that maybe that two seed, whoever that ends up being. Just a confusing team, man. You're right. They can't get stops when they need it. ah If Burrow is in all world, ah then they really don't have anything. Orlando Brown went out in this one. That'll be huge if he has any sort of extended time. right T Higgins like just seems to get the worst injury luck or is going way too hard in practice, one or the other.
01:01:47
Speaker
um Very interested to see, you know, keep an eye on the Bengals for the rest of the season. and um We will move into the quick hit section here. Chief stay undefeated 27 to 20 over Las Vegas. and I didn't have a ton from this game.
01:02:03
Speaker
um Another game where the the Chiefs don't look fantastic in yet another win um Patrick Mahomes with the with the and one push off there on the roughing the passer Keep that shit in the NBA. I hated that. Yeah, no flopping in the NFL. So man's league um Mahomes becomes the fastest quarterback in NFL history to reach 30,000 career passing yards Which is shocking because he's just been below average for his stamp standards this season. i I find the Raiders always just kind of play the Chiefs tight. and And this game kind of showed it a little backdoor cover action from them. it This is a it might not look great, but this is a nice win for the Chiefs. It is because they have lost to this team many times under my homes, ah under my homes as quarterback. But yeah, I didn't take a lot from it. Chiefs business as usual. Seven to know the Raiders didn't look like the worst team in the NFL this past week. Yeah, which I guess is a step forward. The Chiefs add Josh Uche from the Patriots pass rusher. Fuck me. That's basically just just signing them to a off free agency. No, they they only have 15 sacks. Like they needed something to bolster the pass rush. Uche is a baller. Like that is another addition where.
01:03:14
Speaker
They just that's what I like about the Chiefs like they don't they don't seem to ever be complacent Like they keep on like building they keep adding they look at what they need They keep going out there and making trades They realize this window like this special time that they're in I mean Mahomes to 30,000 like his resume at the end of his career is going to be fucking nuts like if he wins another Super Bowl this year and he has four Super Bowls, quickest to 30,000 yards, probably adds maybe another Super Bowl and MVP in the mix, already has a couple MVPs, like, he's on track, man. With a three-peat in there if they win this year, like, it's... Yeah, he's already Hall of Famer now, and i he just seems like he always wants more. It's that, like, he's got the Brady... Yeah, he's chasing him, man.
01:04:02
Speaker
He's got that tick where it's like he's he will not stop. he He's going to keep going and he wants to keep winning. ah Maybe Travis Kelsey starts to get going now with his first touchdown catch. Big game. DeAndre Hopkins. Oh my, I don't know what I was about to call him. DeAndre Hopkins was um he was you know quiet, but I'm sure he's just going to kind of get better as time goes on and they develop that relationship. So yeah, I mean, the Chiefs are the odds on favorites and they deserve to be But yeah yeah we'll see. We'll see. It's just they win some games convincingly. This one is fine. Division game. I don't put a ton of stock into it. They're like nine and a half point favorites, I believe, over the box next. what Why? they They haven't been going out any teams, right? Like we'll get into that maybe with the picks, but they got the box. Yeah. Just win some games convincingly because I know you're seven and now and you're you're in the playoffs already.
01:04:52
Speaker
And you'll probably have home field throughout the playoffs, but there's something off on this team. Yes. Somehow, some way. I don't know. I sound insane saying that, but there's something just slightly off. Something's rotten in the state of Denmark. We will go to Chargers 26 to eight over New Orleans.
01:05:08
Speaker
barely had anything from this game. I guess they kind of use this game to find their groove. Ladd McConkie coming out party, 111 yards, two touchdowns. ah They stay in the playoff picture, not even as the last seed. ah Or I guess they are now. um It's a cold tour, now the seventh seed. ah Justin Herbert, assassination attempt. like I kind of love that, seeing your O-line just absolutely go berserk and try and kill somebody. Seems like they maybe found a bit of a groove in this game.
01:05:34
Speaker
Yeah, it's the Saints with without their car. Like I say, it's tough to judge the Chargers were off of this game. ah Big win, though, like you need to win this game. You're always kind of shocked at the spread, but it showed why they were that big of a favorite. The Saints are just.
01:05:52
Speaker
They're a bad team right now. Olave gets a hospital ball every single game ah without care card playing. It's like that's going to be a problem as he continues. And he's probably their cars, the number one fan needing him to get back. ah But yeah the charges have a big one next week, I think, against the the Browns. You got to keep winning those games and finding ways to win them ugly because that's that's their style of football.
01:06:15
Speaker
And it can get you in the playoffs, especially we already mentioned it. It's a weak AFC, man. So they're in kind of in the driver's seat. You want to say like they're in a spot where they can control their own destiny to get into the wild card. So, you know, these wins will add up and it's it's good for them. Yeah, I agree. um Packers survive without Jordan Love.
01:06:33
Speaker
I can't believe I fucking lost against the Jaguars again. i I was on the wrong side of a fucking sucker bet two weeks in a row. 30-27 over Jacksonville. Love injured his left groin on the opening drive of this one. Malik Willis looks awesome still. like he Matt, another great LaFleur game. like I saw Arlovski tweeting today about that is his coach of the year candidate right now and I have to agree.
01:07:00
Speaker
Jacob's huge game, 127 yards, two touchdowns. I feel bad for the Jaguars. They lost six players in this game, dude. brian All of the starting receivers, Brian Thomas Jr., chest, Kirk gets a shoulder injury, Gabe Davis shoulder injury, lost Darby to a hip, Brandon Schurff to a knee, Ezra Cleveland to an ankle. the They just shoot themselves in the foot every week, it seems like.
01:07:25
Speaker
Yeah, they just it's a team that finds ways to lose. They're hopeless. It's just like, you you know, you you wait for that spark to happen on offense and, you know, yeah you get a hundred injuries and you can't really get in the flow. You still broke 27 points against a pretty good defense that we've seen this year, which is is pretty impressive.
01:07:44
Speaker
Malik Willis is going to make so much money when he becomes a free agent. Like someone's going to say, this is our starting quarterback. He's like he's a leader. You know, he's he's on one of those teams. So good for him. But yeah, the the Packers rolling.
01:07:57
Speaker
and you know hopefully Jordan Love is 100% going into next week against the Lions because these NFC North matchups, man, I'm i'm pumped that they're starting to they're starting to transpire now because those are the games where now we can actually see this division kind of unfold. I think the Bears are starting to kind of reveal themselves as truly, truly the worst team in that division. Not not a knock, it's best division in football right now. But we'll we'll see how the Packers, Lions, and Vikings all kind of stack up against each other going forward. Yeah, ah Texans win and Anthony Richardson sucks. 23-20 over in Indianapolis.
01:08:36
Speaker
I feel bad for Colts fans, they're just so stuck in limbo right now. Another week, I would say, where Joe Flacco wins you this game, which, like, how many times have we been able to say that now? He goes, 10 for 32, 175, TD interception, five sacks. I have never seen a QB take themselves out of a game like that. Like, that's the big story right now.
01:08:59
Speaker
You got a lie dude say your shoulder hurts say your ribs hurt like just lie lie to the media Yeah, usually I love transparency from the athletes, but this is one of those Instances where you could have saved that dude even just say you were like winded, a you're right? Like that would have played a little bit more Struggling to breathe like there's ways around saying I was tired there's there's ways around it and he just said he just you know offer that up for free, said I'm i'm a little out of shape is basically what he just said.
01:09:30
Speaker
It's bad. I think he was like what, two of 15 for 81 yards or something on half, which is the most insane stat line you've ever seen. The Colts don't want to make the playoffs no is what I'm getting from this team. And you like, I get, you kind of have to see what's there. I think we've seen it. It's the same thing pretty much every week. He hits a couple of deep balls and he looks horrible when he doesn't.
01:09:55
Speaker
He's got vicious defenders, too. Like, in any comment section, you're like, they he's played 10 games. It's like, yeah, they also drafted him as a guy who had barely played games and was pretty much taken because he was a raw talent and was an athletic QB. Like,
01:10:11
Speaker
It's not like you're saying he's only played 10 games like he was a star in college. There's just I don't have the benefit of the doubt there for for Anthony Richardson. I really don't. They go to Minnesota next Sunday night. They got flexed into the Sunday night game, which like fuck they have to be.
01:10:26
Speaker
So pissed that they can't hide for that game. Start Flacco, make the game fun. just or i me The game will be fun, I guess, in a way with Anthony Richardson just because of the pure chaos and we can kind of laugh at him. But make it a good game. Start your Flacco. Let's just see these two quarterbacks kind of throw it and back and forth.
01:10:45
Speaker
I think Steichen said that they're evaluating all options. So I think that might that might mean we get Flaco. Yeah.

Colts' Playoff Focus & Broncos' Surprising Performance

01:10:51
Speaker
Okay. So I think maybe the the light bulb has finally you know switched for ownership, whoever to be like, shit, I think we actually need to make the playoffs here. um Because you're not going to spend a top pick on a QB likely anyways. I don't see them as a lottery team. like this This roster's too good for that.
01:11:08
Speaker
They can make the playoffs yeah and like they've lost two games in a row where it's you could be there for and for now they could have been six and two. you know You win this game then you split the season series with the Texans you can win the division.
01:11:23
Speaker
Anthony Richardson's a project, but they're treating him like he's ready right now. Just let him sit, man. you You're seeing it with other quarterbacks, and it's working well. You got a raw talent in in yeah talent. it's You just let him develop, let him sit on the bench, and let him keep his confidence. Because right now, I'm sure he has zero. Agreed. And I feel like people are forgetting that's an option with QVs. You can sit the guy and not It's like everybody's like, oh, yeah, you're just going to go and betray his trust. It's like, what trust? Like, you're still a fucking you're you're still a prospect, kind of like it's not like you have any any history with this team. No, and he's you know, you're going to have a fifth year option. He's he's a close round quarterback. He can sit for two years and you still get him for three. It's ridiculous, dude. It's ridiculous. Broncos squash the Panthers 28 to 14. Another game where like at first you were like, oh, maybe Carolina's frisky in this game.
01:12:17
Speaker
Uh, Sean Payton, DJ Horned beef. Payton calls them a bad offense after the game. he He was, he was full of quotes, dude. He doesn't give a fuck. Like he might be the, no the most no fucks given coach in the NFL.
01:12:31
Speaker
Yeah, it's it's it's it's funny now. I don't know why I i didn't like him before, but now it's starting to be funny. I agree. And this is the Broncos as of right now are the most surprising story to me. Yeah, I think they're trash. I really do. And Bo Nix has looked fine. Don't get me wrong. It's the Panthers. Everyone seems to look great against the Panthers.
01:12:53
Speaker
I don't know. They're five and three right now. They've got some swagger to them. I don't know. I just don't know if this is like a shine that's going to wear off pretty quickly or maybe this is like Sean Payton's got easy. You know, he's tapped into something and Bo Nix is playing solid football. And I know their defense is good. Sir Tan's back. He was he was making plays out there. And yeah, I don't know. I'm just the Broncos to me are a very surprising story. And and the team i'm I'm watching very, very closely.

NFL Week 9 Picks Review & Predictions

01:13:20
Speaker
me as well that will do it for our week eight recap we will now move into week nine picks after that we're gonna do a CFL playoff preview so stick around till the end of the episode for that But week nine picks, I go one and two last week, now 13 and 11. Patrick goes a big two and one last week to now go to 11 and 13. You're closing that gap on me. You were on the right side of the blowouts. You had the Lions. I had the Ravens. I fall for another Jaguars trap game. Pats first, then Packers. Very disappointed in myself for that. I lead serve here again. And Patrick, I avoided talking about it in both of the game previews.
01:14:03
Speaker
We don't usually take Thursday night games. I'm taking the Texans. They are plus one and a half at the Jets. What do they know that I don't like? I don't care. I'm taking the points with the Texans.
01:14:16
Speaker
Yeah, like I would you know say that this is it feels like a trap game, but the Jets are favored every single week. like they somehow get like public game yeah They somehow get public money and they're somehow favored every week. So yeah, I love the Texans in that game as well. um mean they're They're injured? like I don't know. like Where's the lean there? they're at The Jets are at home. They haven't been good at home. No, it no I think Joe Mixon is going to rip that defensive part.
01:14:44
Speaker
I will go into a disgusting matchup from what I've seen, but I like the team in this spot. They're slight underdogs right now. I think they'll be favored by kickoff. I'm going to go with the Cleveland Browns plus one and a half at home against the Los Angeles Chargers. I think this can be a bit of a grudge match. I want almost took a total in this game, but I'm going to lean Browns on this one.
01:15:07
Speaker
Yeah, I agree with that. I think that is a a good matchup kind of to have the Browns as a dog in. If they were favored one and a half, I wouldn't take them, but I like them as a dog. I'm going to go. I took a similar pick a couple weeks back when they were playing the Browns. Commanders three and a half is just dying to being taken. I know it's a division game. um'm I'm taking that against the Giants all day. Commanders three and a half.
01:15:32
Speaker
I like it. Um, I'm going to go with the Los Angeles Rams slight favorite, uh, minus one and a half on the road against Seattle. I just think with a cup in the cool back, I like 80 to one for the super bowl, man. I'm starting to talk myself into the Rams a little bit. And that game moved all the way from plus one and a half. Like I did my notes last night. It was Rams plus one and a half and it's now moved, you know, essentially two full point or three full points all the way.
01:15:58
Speaker
on the ram side that that seems to show you where the bucks are heading we make these pickics early obviously i think that spread probably continues maybe even further than the one and a half so i like getting it there my final pick here going back and forth between the two i've got a tonal that i like but um' I'm going to go Bill's six and a half, man. I don't see the bills not winning this game by a touchdown. I think that's a bit of a fucking crazy number. I'll tell you what the other pick was after, but Bill's six and a half. This is a bit of a mental health pick for me. Yep. You got to do it sometimes. It's, you know, so it's what's best for you. I don't know if I'm going to fall into the trap here.
01:16:41
Speaker
No, I'm not. No, I'm not. I talked about it earlier. I'm going to do it. I'm going to stick with them. I took them last week. ah they They could have could have won if we had some review on the goal line. um I'm taking the box plus nine and a half on Monday night football. The Chiefs haven't really shown that they can blow anyone out. And I think the box like they still move the ball well, man. And it just kind of screams back door cover to me with nine and a half. Yeah, it's got the starters on the bench in the fourth quarter. Just give me that back door cover, Baker. Come on.
01:17:10
Speaker
What was the other pick you were looking at there, the the trap? i I almost took the Bears, man. I don't know why. Maybe it's not a trap, but like I just the Bears coming off a heartbreaking loss like that. that The Cardinals have won two in a row for the first time in forever. It just feels like, ah you know, one of those swing games where you take the team that's low and then fade the team. That's kind of as high as they could be. What was the other pick that you had? I was looking at Raiders Bengals over forty six and a half. I think that's like a very prime over also really considered Packers plus three and a half.
01:17:44
Speaker
Yeah, I just stayed away from that game because I just want to watch it. Yeah. Enjoy that one. Yeah, I love the hook on that with with the extra point the Packers are getting there. um But those are our week nine picks. This could be a big week, man. You're trailing me by two. Like this could be a swing week compared, like depending on how we do. So it's been a great, great pe segment so far this year. We're going back and forth. I can't wait to like the end of the year with like all our 18 picks or not, you know, whatever it is. I mean, you see how we do.
01:18:13
Speaker
um I might have to start like directly going against you soon. if If I'm staying, especially if I stay like within the three game slot, and I might just have to go a week or two ago. It doesn't matter what you take. I'm calling the opposite just to try and find my way back in. Yeah, um but that'll do it for a week nine picks. Coming up after this, we will do our CFL playoff preview. A lot to get to. ah It's looking like it's going to be a great playoffs, in my opinion. so

Transition to CFL Playoffs & Team Analyses

01:18:39
Speaker
Come back after this. Alright, welcome back to our CFL preview. It's crazy to think that like 23 weeks ago we were doing our CFL season preview. It's been a crazy up and down season. um And it's still kind of lot you know laid out how we thought it would here with both semi-final matchups. Red Blacks at Argos, Lions at Rough Riders. Seems like it was just destined for this.
01:19:04
Speaker
Yeah, I feel like our ah predictions were somewhat accurate. You know, maybe the seeding was a little off, but I think we had the teams pinpointed that had a chance. And the Elks were maybe the one team that we were a little bit wrong on, but they just always kind of create their own problems. So they're just a tough team to judge. But I love the final six we got here, Damien.
01:19:22
Speaker
it I could be, you know, out of touch, but it just feels like there's no dominant team, like no huge favorite. I know Montreal has kind of been on top the entire season, but for some reason, it just feels like the other teams are hitting their strides at the right time. And I just think it's wide open. Me too. We are going to do each semifinal preview.
01:19:43
Speaker
then we are going to do a bit of a vibe check on each number one seed and then we are going to do some gray cup preview and picks ah we will stay with this throughout the the playoffs here but we're going to kind of lay it out here before it starts the ottawa red blacks are six and a half point dogs as they head to toronto to take on the ten and eight argos It was five and a half. The line is moving further towards the Argos. Let's start with the red blacks here because huge turnaround season for them. They finished rock bottom in the East last year. No team in the league had a worse record than their four and 14 season last year was their fourth season in ah in a row with a losing record. Now they're nine, eight and one. They qualify for the playoffs for the first time in six years, but Ottawa,
01:20:33
Speaker
goes one in six in their last final seven games here. And their only win came on closing day against the Tiger Cats, the bottom of the division, kind of bottom of the league as well. And this is an Ottawa team that only lost one home game all season, which makes that week 20 loss to Toronto all the more important here. Tough game for them to have to go on the road for, man.
01:21:02
Speaker
Yeah, they would have loved to be at at home for this game and and it felt like they were going to be the Argos kinda their season was kind of filled the peaks and valleys whereas the the red blocks it was they got out hot. They were a great team. I think one of the surprises of the season like you mentioned after having a ah horrible year last year.
01:21:22
Speaker
And then just kind of down the stretch, like you said, one in six, you lose the game that you kind of needed to win against the Argos. And like Drew Brown is playing great. I think if you look at his last seven games out of the ones, he's only had one really off game where he's been kind of slinging the ball a lot and they're they're moving the ball.
01:21:40
Speaker
It feels like this defense is kind of susceptible to giving up points and they're, they're just losing the game almost at half and they're kind of having to play from behind. We saw it, especially in the Argos game, like they, that the game finished 38 31, but it was over at halftime and they were just the eight to six at half yeah after half.
01:21:59
Speaker
And then, you know, the Argos, whatever they they went on cruise control, not not encouraging signs, but that game was out of reach at half. And that line screams that we're in for more of the same. I think I think the Argos are the better team in this matchup. I think they're playing better football as of late. And I think it's going to translate to to the field on Saturday, especially with being at home. I think it just kind of it just helps because the red blocks crowd is one of the more underrated crowds in the CFL. They've been able to kind of create a culture there this season and it's a fun time at red blocks games.
01:22:34
Speaker
yeah Welcome to BMO. Welcome to BMO. We're were're on the water and we're ready to go at BMO Field. I think the Argos take this one. Yeah, BMO is going to be rocking. I think it's going to be sold out. That is a stadium that underratedly gets loud, like even in games or seasons where they don't do great, that, you know, and the fans are loud. They're they're few but mighty, you could say. ah The keys to the Red Blacks here got to protect Drew Brown. Like he is a quarterback who is bad if he's not comfortable.
01:23:03
Speaker
In that week 20 game, we saw it. He got sacked three times, intercepted once. The Argos D-line is the best in the league. And I think that if they don't protect Drew Brown, this game could be over at half. It's it's the same kind of thing. The D-line is fantastic. Out of the top 15 sack leaders in the CFL, the Argos have four on their defensive line. Suresna and Hawley each have eight. Smith, Parrish and Ormelade have six each.
01:23:30
Speaker
That's five, actually. They have five out of the top 15. A little bit of math problems there. ah And they're good on on run defense, pretty good on pass defense. They are missing a Darius Pickett badly on that team. Key is to protect Drew bow drew Brown. Another key is their special teams. Khalil Pimbleton is a star.
01:23:49
Speaker
He had 140 yards in kick returns on six returns in week 20, had 64 yards in punt returns, 204 total for special teams. If he is great, they're going to put Brown in favorable positions to start drives. We saw how good their special teams were in recovering two onside punts against the Argos in week 20. Got to be huge on special teams, got to protect your Brown. That's how the red blacks win this game if they do. Over to the Argos side.
01:24:18
Speaker
huge wins in their final four games this season. They go, they beat Montreal to sweep Montreal for the season series. They beat Winnipeg to sweep Winnipeg for the season series. And then they beat Ottawa in back to back to back games. Bombers were on a nine game winning streak. You talk about kind of, you know, similar seasons. Montreal had the Argos season last year. They they locked up first seed in the East versus the Argos who have really had to get it out of the mud in this season. They, like you said, have had peaks and valleys.
01:24:48
Speaker
and they're going into BMO with a ton of momentum behind them. Yes, it's it's impressive the way that with all the, you know, chaos, I guess you could say surrounding the Argos, the Arbuckle for the first eight games and a little bit of ah our our boy mixed in there as well, Dukesie, but hu it's it's great. Like Chad Kelly's comeback, it started a little shaky, but now he's starting to write the ship. He's really developed that relationship with Mackay Polk. It that's been an impressive, like it's just,
01:25:16
Speaker
Every game deep ball every guy gets just big plays kind of reminds me It's different like the AJ Brown to like Jalen hurts where it's like you just know it's coming at some point and it's gonna be huge and it's gonna kind of open up this game and a lot on the ground could even carries been solid all year long over a thousand yards and It's nice that the Argos have lost, ula which which I think we both thought was going to be very evident in this team, but they've been able to run the ball successfully. And I think in the playoffs, it's not going to be the coldest game on Saturday, but the running the ball in defense travels. And I think the Argos are in a nice spot.
01:25:53
Speaker
I think Chad Kelly, like, like you said, they're kind of upset after what happened last year. You know, Montreal got hot at the right time. The Argos were the top dog all season. Everyone was basically handing them the great cup. Well now I think it's like you said, I love that idea. Like it was just, it's a bit of a flip from last year and I hope did what he's preaching that in the locker room to them. Cause that should be their mindset. I know, you know, we're already looking ahead to pass the red blocks right now, but I think There's just an added motivation for this Argos team that they haven't had it since they won the Great Cup a couple of years ago. And I think you're going to see them come out firing on ah on Saturday. Yeah, they got to slay the demon, right? Like they got to slay the home playoff demon here.
01:26:32
Speaker
Uh, this game comes down to Chad Kelly in the secondary. You want to talk about keys. If Kelly is great in this game, they win this game. That is, that is it. Like he, you mentioned that connection with pole key hits a thousand yards. He's new guy into the CFL finished with five touchdown. They're going to need Coke, see Daniels and Brissett to step up. Like they still have that receiver core that is dangerous. Uh, if he's great.
01:26:54
Speaker
If Kelly's great, Ottawa doesn't have an answer. See 38 to 6 versus Ottawa on week 20. He's still finished with almost 2,500 yards and 10 TDs in nine games. Also had eight interceptions, right? Like that is the other side of the ball here. But I really think coming off of that performance he had last year in the Eastern and eastern final. He's going to be motivated. He's been accurate. He's taking care of the football the last few games. You lean on your D-line to pressure them. Those are the keys for the Argos here. Like you lean on your stars here. You lean on Kelly. You lean on the run game and you make it impossible for Ottawa to really have any any breathing room in this game. um Over to the Western semifinal here.
01:27:38
Speaker
The B.C. Lions are catching three and a half points heading to Saskatchewan, one of the worst places that you could head into ah in terms of an away game environment. Let's talk B.C. a bit here. They started the season five and one through their first six games, you know, 12 and six in each in each of the last two seasons.
01:27:59
Speaker
And then they lose their next five games. like This is a team that it seems like you're never you never know what you're going to get out of a BC Lions team on any given so ah Saturday, Friday, Sunday. um Three and three in their last six games, like which is just such a perfect you know encapsulation of what their season has been, really hard to predict you know what Lions you're going to get in this game.
01:28:22
Speaker
I think the last time we discussed CFL in this podcast, I said the BC Lions have created their own quarterback controversy. And I think that take aged pretty well because Nathan Rourke has kind of put this team in not a great spot. I think a lot of people would have told you that they you know were the second best team in the West and at points they could have been better than Winnipeg, especially with the start that they had this season.
01:28:47
Speaker
And then I think with Rourke, I just, I don't know. I think he came into this locker room. I think the guys were used to playing with Vernon Adams Jr. And I think if you hit them all with truth serum, Damien, and you said, who would you rather be your quarterback for game one of these playoffs? I think the majority of the room would say bernard ams junior and i believe he is starting in this game so i i think that these guys gonna play hard for bernard i think it's a huge like. You know it's it's desperation in a way where it's like you know what why are you changing your quarterback right before playoff game i think bernard ams junior as of right now give this team a better chance to win the nathan norick and i think that uh,
01:29:27
Speaker
It scares me because they are on the road in Saskatchewan. You know, that place is going to be packed and the weather could be in in play in that game. But I kind of like B.C. I think they're going to get up and I think they're going to play for Vernon Adams Jr. And I think they're they're going to be in this game for sure. I love the hook on three and a half there. I love love B.C. with the points in this game. I think Vernon Adams, that game against Montreal two weeks ago, they they stomp Montreal twenty seven to three. You know, he goes.
01:29:54
Speaker
384, three touchdowns, including that 52 yard but bomb. Uh, that is the Vernon Adams X factor, right? Like it he has that ceiling. He wants to prove something. He has that chip on his shoulder. He's probably out of BC in the off season here. Like, you know, a team side note, I think Hamilton should, should like start an n NIL fund and throw as much money as possible at him.
01:30:19
Speaker
So when he came back, he signed a three year deal, right? And then I believe Farhol Nolji, uh, said that like Nathan was going nowhere, but BC, if he went back to the CFL. Isn't that a crazy kind of mindset to have? Like you're a professional football player, right? Like you can't just pick and choose where you want to go. And I think like this, this reunion with BC has been horrible since he's come back. He hasn't been himself. BC's kind of lost a couple of games. Like, yeah, I think he's going to have to move on.
01:30:46
Speaker
And what a weird spot, you know, if Vernon Adams gets you to a Western Conference final game here, like then it's like, who do we choose here? We have one locked up under our contract. VA, a you know, might feel slighted kind of how we treated him throughout this very weird situation, especially if they win this game. um Keys to the game for BC you can't shoot yourselves in the foot. This is a team that has operated heavily on mistakes this year. Like they were a very heavily penalized team.
01:31:16
Speaker
ah They have to be low on turnovers, low on mistakes, and lean on your stars here. Justin McInnis is the first Canadian to lead the league in receiving yards since 2010, finished with almost 1,500 yards as a receiver. You lean on McInnis, you lean on Standback, you make Saskatchewan, make the plays on defense. ah If they go out and are efficient on offense,
01:31:39
Speaker
It's going to be a hard game for Saskatchewan to win. Let's move to the riders here. Another weird season for them. Like you you could almost say the same for them, like kind of being a 50 50 team, uh, in any game that they play in, you know, everybody was quick to crown Corey Mays. They go start the season four and oh, then go five and one through their first six. Then they go on a seven game winless streak in a lot of coaching mistakes in the mix there.
01:32:03
Speaker
They beat the Lions impressively in that run. um They traded home wins in this in their season series, like PC won at home, Saskatchewan won at home. That's why love you got to love having home field in this game with the riders faithful behind you here. Trevor Harris has been consistent. It's almost the same preview for both teams. like For the riders, you lean on your stars. You lean on MLS. You lean on Roland Milligan.
01:32:29
Speaker
you know, you lean on your your quarterback, Trevor Harris being efficient and low on mistakes. This is such a toss up game to me. Like it's really going to be what team shows up and what version of each team shows up. Yeah, I think the key in this one you you touched on, especially with BC, it's it's turnovers, man, mistakes like obviously that's an easy talking point, but especially in a playoffs where these teams, like I said, it feels like they are almost a carbon carbon copy of each other.
01:32:54
Speaker
couple losses each way. Like that this home field could have been flipped very easily. It's what team can go out there. I don't think this is going to be a shootout. I think it's going to be a pretty low scoring tight game. Like I said, I kind of love the the three and a half with BC to just cover in this game. I don't know if they're going to win it, but it's the team that's going to be able to be like special teams. This is going to be another one. We saw it a little bit in the last game with Montreal and in Winnipeg, we saw special teams come in hand in like Was very evident in that game and I think in this one it will be the same and it's just like who can you know? Who can make the little less mistakes at Cory mace first kind of big spot as a head coach like are the lights gonna be too bright at home? I'm sure that crowd's not gonna be scared to let let him know if things aren't going the way that they would see But um, I'm gonna go with BC with the points in this one Don't know if they're gonna win, but I'm taking them with the points and I guess I didn't give a pick but I like the Argos Yeah on this minus whatever
01:33:49
Speaker
Yeah, i'm on I'm on the same same and kind of bandwidth there. Same wave. Rowan Milligan Jr. like he he was kind of leading the league almost in like m you know most valuable player odds throughout the season. He has finished the league leading the CFL in interceptions with eight ah second in special teams tackles with 20. He's the heart of this defense. ah He's going to have to be big in this one. Like you you force a turnover here.
01:34:15
Speaker
on BC they kind of start to unravel so interesting interesting match up there those are the semi final previews here can be some great great football on Saturday a back to back there ah let's move to the one seeds Patrick we will start in the east with the Montreal Alouettes They lose the last game of the season. They had some starters sitting out, obviously. But did you see the punt that caused them to lose that game? It's a windy, windy night at Molson Stadium. And they kick up a punt, you know trying to kill clock. And the wind, act of God, whatever you want to call it there, stops it. twenty It's a 21-yard punt.
01:34:55
Speaker
gives Winnipeg the ball in field goal position. They kick it, they hit it. Is this a good omen for Winnipeg you think or like a bad omen for Montreal? Well, the the broadcasters, I believe, said it was this is like God is looking down on the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. It gave them the one seed ah because they they played earlier before the Saskatchewan was set to play. So it was a huge win. Dude, the leaves, like I thought it was snow when I turned, but it was just leaves just flying around. and i And then the punt goes up and it just goes sideways, like you said, for 21 yards.
01:35:28
Speaker
credit to Sergio Castillo for making a 51 yard bomb in that weather. Like that is very like signing him on the jets. Cause that, that, that is a real kicker who's knows pressure spots and he he comes through consistently for, for the bombers. He just seems like he's just a staple of CFL football to me. Um, yeah, the, the, that was a huge game and it feels like Winnipeg's back a little bit, you know, they had a really slow start to the season.
01:35:56
Speaker
I think a lot of people were kind of worried. Is is the cholera shine starting to wear off? Is he starting to, you know, has he has he gone over the hill? No, the the second half of the season, they've been ripping it up and they've got the momentum right now. By week is huge for them. And yeah, I think this is I don't want to say it's foreshadowing for what's going to happen in the playoffs, but it feels like something's going on with the blue bombers right now. And I'm not going to be one to ah to get in their way and and ah and knock them down from from the role that they're on.
01:36:25
Speaker
Yeah, it it really is a role. We will get to Winnipeg, but yeah, I took that as a good omen for Winnipeg. The Alouettes are hosting the East Final for the first time since. You know, AR 15 or air, you know, ah and since 2012 when they hosted the Argos at Olympic Stadium, they said they're still running a week full of practices. But again, role reversal from last year.
01:36:52
Speaker
Montreal finishes their last seven games, two, four and one Patrick. Only two wins were coming versus Ottawa while dropping games to BC, Toronto and Winnipeg. They lost both games to Toronto this season. Fajardo has been in and out. He only played 14 games due to a hamstring injury. Tyson Philpott was ruled out for the rest of the season in early September, who was a legitimate, legitimate MOP candidate. His absence cannot be understated here.
01:37:22
Speaker
They relied so heavily on Philpott that their next leading receiver is Cole Speaker right now, who only has 37 more yards and two more touchdowns with nine more games played, dude. This was this has been understated. Nobody's really mentioning it a ton. like it It's kind of faded out into the background.
01:37:44
Speaker
Austin Mack has only played two games since returning to the NFL. Obviously missed the start of the season, got the ankle injury, missed six games. He is, you know, still kind of working his way back in this. The Alouettes are plus 150 to win the Gray Cup and they have the shortest odds. It's fucking outrageous, dude.
01:38:03
Speaker
Yeah. So I was going to ask you, but like, if you were an odds maker and I know Montreal's hosting, but what would you have the line at say Montreal versus Toronto in the Eastern final? What what would you have it at? Two and a half for, for like Montreal. Yeah.
01:38:18
Speaker
Yeah, I think they've, I think this is a very early crowning of the Alouettes. And like you said, they've just kind of been able to go on cruise control. It is exactly like the Argos of last year. And that's gotta be creeping in and you said, no one's really talking about them. They're just, they're almost non-existent. You haven't heard about them in the second half of the season after they got out to that hot start.
01:38:39
Speaker
And now it's like, okay, now it's time to show up. And the teams that you mentioned that they lost to all playoff teams, right? It's those are the teams you have to be. Anyone can go, you know, you beat Ottawa, Ottawa's kind of been an up and down team. I think that's a team that's over exceeded expectations this year. And they're just happy to be in the playoffs. Montreal's got great cup aspirations and the teams that you're losing to, they want to do the same thing. And I think the Argos are hungry and Montreal is just,
01:39:04
Speaker
I chose is comfortable right now and comfortable is dangerous in the playoffs and we'll see home field advantage matters. And I think that will matter in the game, especially because, you know, maybe, but maybe they don't know how to handle the the weather as we saw it with the punt. And it's something that they they're going to have to focus on. Uh, but the Alouettes.
01:39:24
Speaker
I'm not worried about him. Like they've been a good team. They deserve to be the spot that they're in, but it just feels like the other teams are goes teams in the West. They're all very hungry and they want a piece at the at the champ. Yeah, big time ah Tyrese Bevoret. He's game breaker at at linebacker there leads the CFL in total defensive plays with 128 third in tackles with 95 second in tackles for loss with eight. He's been a big game breaker for them. um But again, like you said here,
01:39:54
Speaker
They're gonna have to kind of snap back into game shape fast here. You get down early in a game like that, you can let it get away from you. Fajardo with a

Winnipeg's Playoff Strengths & Great Cup Predictions

01:40:02
Speaker
hamstring injury, like that is an injury you don't want as a quarterback who like tends to run a lot. Like he, that is something that could easily get flared up again. ah Let's talk Winnipeg here. You mentioned it. Started the season 0 and 4, you know, the, the, the commenters were Zach Kalaros is done. They should have kept Drew Brown. Why can't they tackle? Why can't they cover? They've gotten old.
01:40:23
Speaker
of the one seed and they are the you know you mentioned there isn't a true true juggernaut right now in the cfl they're as close to it as as any team is goingnna be right now like they're Their ah offense is terrifying. it it Brady Oliver is still proving he's the best running back in the league, finished with almost 1,400 yards. He's getting over five yards a carry, almost 200 more yards than the next running back, like almost an entire game and a half more than the next closest guy. um Elite short yardage QB, Stravler leads the league with 10 touchdowns. Kalaros finishes second with passing yards and with 4,317 touchdowns.
01:41:11
Speaker
You got 2,000 yard receivers in Demsky and Wilson. Kenny Lawler had four TDs in almost 700 yards in only 10 games. While Atarski, Schoen, Whitehead, like it's a terrifying offense. The ah offense is it it is like it's the top of the CFL they they deserve wi to be where they are right now and it's just like why do we write the blue bombers off it's such a long season it's not like this NFL it's it's a lot longer we're in the 20s of weeks as opposed to 18 it's I don't know. This Blue Bombers team, it feels like this is just the same team that's been in this gray cup and in the same run that they've been on since Kaleros has taken over his quarterback. And now the Brady Oliver is healthy and he's running. He's running like a madman. They got all three receivers ready to go.
01:42:01
Speaker
This is a team that's going to be very difficult to stop on offense. And it's just the the teams are going to have to, it's going to be a shootout. It feels like whenever you play against Winnipeg and it's going to be like, can you be able to get an interception? Can you, can you knock, knock the ball loose? Can you get the turnover lock? Because it feels like special teams, they're locked down with Castillo. I guess the only slight concern would be the defense, but even that it's not like I'm, I'm worried about this defense for the Winnipeg. And I just think that they're going to.
01:42:32
Speaker
They are the class of the West. And I think that the, the BC and Saskatchewan are perfectly in that second tier. And I just, I think there's, if we're talking, you know, we're going to get into the, our gray cup picks, but I do think that there's three teams that like, I think there's like, you can split these playoffs in half. I think there's three teams that are elite and then three teams that are good. And, and I think Winnipeg is possibly the lead candidate in the elite category.
01:42:58
Speaker
Yeah, minus 250 to reach the great cup, which is a crazy number, ah plus 170 to win the great cup. They have the next shortest odds. If you're looking at game film, right like the the teams that play Winnipeg should be studying that week 19 game where the Argos beat them 14 to 11. It was all pressure, like the D-line, the safeties, they they all had a game. like You pressure Kalaros, that is kind of the key. If you can sack him constantly, put him in tough positions, then it makes it a lot harder to run that offense. If you have a good run defense, you can kind of slow down, but not completely stop all of era.
01:43:34
Speaker
um Yeah, I'm penciling in Winnipeg for the Great Cup here. like we'll would We'll move now into Great Cup predictions. I am penciling in the Blue Bombers here because I think that you mentioned it. like that Those other two teams are good. They're not great. And I think they are just cannon fodder here for the Blue Bombers in a Western semifinal that will be in Winnipeg in front of 36,000 fans.
01:43:59
Speaker
I'm going to go ahead and pencil Winnipeg in as well. I, it scares me that we're already doing it. And for some reason it, like I want to do it with BC. I feel like BC is one of those teams where, you know, they rally around for an items junior, they get a spark going. And cause we know, we know what they were at the start of the year. They were elite. They were arguably the best team in, in the, in the West. Well, I know Saskatchewan had a great start as well, but there was just more confidence and BC and they, they seem to be operating on a, on an elite level.
01:44:29
Speaker
I'm still going to go with Winnipeg out of the West, but there's something in me that like, I'm going to be taking BC Moneyline against Saskatchewan. I just think there's something, something there. They're going to have to rally and they's they're going to have to play above what they've been doing recently. But I think there's potential at BC, but I will go with Winnipeg out of the West.
01:44:45
Speaker
Yeah, me too. I'm going to go with Winnipeg out of the West, but I like what you're saying there because if BC looks great in that semifinal and they look like a well oiled machine, you got a lot more confidence heading into that game against Winnipeg. And I'm sure Winnipeg wants to play Saskatchewan instead of BC.
01:45:03
Speaker
Yeah, I just, I do think, I think that team's going to rally around Vernon. I'm his junior. I don't know why I'm not in that locker room, but it just feels, it just feels like they believe in him more. You saw, I saw the post-game press conference after they beat Montreal, all the receivers are common in like patent them on the shoulder pads. I think there's something there with the lions.
01:45:19
Speaker
Yeah, it was also crazy when Nathan Rourke was still starting. ah Vernon Adams was leading like the pregame speeches, the pregame chants. That was really a sign for me in that. um But Great Cup November 17th, 6 p.m. i Game is

i'm not I'm not too excited for it. yeah green Green Day was ah ah was a bigger get and a better- It's a big drop off. Yeah, I don't think the Jonas Brothers have the name value anymore. and If this was 10 years ago, I think that would have played. i just don't think like i think they've I don't think I could name you a song off the top of my head. like I could go and I'll know songs, but if you ask me a Jonas Brothers song right now, I can't give you one. I did that yesterday. I was like, I can't name a Jonas Brothers song. and They've just been not relevant for so long. like yeah green day they had something there it was like finally the CFL grabs a halftime show ah band that is still relevant because they always go back to like whoever was big 10 years ago

I just, I can't get up for a Jonas Brothers halftime show. I can't. Fandu is taking odds somehow for like songs and shit. Carly Redd Jepsen's at plus 500 to make a guest appearance. That, that is, that is the most CFL thing I think I've ever heard. Carly, right. She's had to, she's had her own, she had a halftime show. Am I making that up? I don't think so. But she's believable. Yeah.
01:46:52
Speaker
Yeah, I they have crazy markets out for that. Like, fuck, I was trying to find it earlier. They let me see if I can find it again. What the other what the other markets were there. like I'm going to I'm going to know some of the songs of the Jonas Brothers put on for sure. But it's just like I'm still thinking.
01:47:08
Speaker
yeah I'm just I can't I get the sucker Yeah, or yes sucker. We're embarrassing her. So we gotta stop we we wait we We gotta stop we're embarrassing ourselves right now. Yeah, they they're taking odds for first song They're taking odds for total numbers of songs will the Jonas Brothers perform a solo song. I don't even know what that means um I thought Joe Jonas was in Panic at the Disco, right? Is that what they mean? Like they play a Panic at the Disco song? Yeah, I think I just pulled that out of thin air, but I i think that might be right. i ah Yeah, it's so funny. Carly Rae Jepsen is leading the odds in plus 500. The second guest appearance odds is Kigo at plus 1600. How does that make any sense? They have to have a song with him, I guess. yeah
01:47:59
Speaker
Brian Adams plus 750. That makes more sense. i mean yeah ah Anyways, we've already penciled in Winnipeg for a great cup ah appearance. that That is both of our picks here. Now it's for the East, dude. like I want to take the Argos there. I really do. But but there's ah there's a part of me that has watched every single Argos game this season. I know what they can be at their best, and I know what they can be at their worst, and it's not good.
01:48:28
Speaker
Yeah, the the images of last year's Eastern Final are are very much in my mind still, and I just worry about them. I just, you know, worry about their defense against this defense like that. Montreal has players on this defense, and if Chad Kelly has another game like that, they'll get blown out in an Eastern Final.
01:48:47
Speaker
So who who are you thinking? I'm going to take Montreal for the purely for the Juju. I'm going to take a rematch of last year, Winnipeg versus Montreal. And um I will take Winnipeg as my great cup winner. I'm going to fall for it all. I got a future on the Argos at plus 650 and I'm going to take them. i I think they get through Ottawa. im um Of course, they're not going like they probably won't get through Ottawa because we're so confident that they will.
01:49:14
Speaker
But I think that they're hungrier. I think that there's something in this team that they're hitting their stride at the right time. And I think Montreal is too comfortable at the top. And I think the the Argos are going to come fighting for them. And I think they I think they can beat Winnipeg as well. I'm just going to go out and just pencil the Toronto Argonauts as the 2024 Grey Cup champions. This will this will age um amazing. I'm sure it will. Wouldn't that be fucking awesome, though? A 19th Grey Cup in a year that, you know, they're down and up like It would be very similar to how they won in 2022, you know, like they get to the game and they can win a big game.
01:49:49
Speaker
Yeah. and And you know, nobody's really looking at them as a great cup favorite. I think yeah if you look at the odds there, uh, I believe Montreal versus Winnipeg is like minus money for the matchup yeah for the great cup. So, you know, flying under the Raiders, a good spot to be in the playoffs and hitting your stride at the right time is also key. And I, the Argos have both of those things going for them. So hopefully they can execute on the field starts on Saturday against the red blocks.
01:50:14
Speaker
Yep, we will both be in attendance trying to get a gold post pick at that game. Argo's Blue Bombers matchup plus 330 on Fandool. It's not quite minus money. It's plus 110 for Alouettes Blue Bombers, Alouettes Riders plus 550, Alouettes Lions plus 850. It just continues to go up and go up there. um But that will do it for our CFL preview and our Week 8 NFL recap.
01:50:40
Speaker
ah Get out there this weekend and watch some CFL football. That is gonna be my public service announcement here to anybody who's stuck with us to the end of this episode. As always, love the support, love everybody's feedback. It's been really ramping up the last few weeks. Feels like we've been getting good traction. I'm getting in arguments in our instant comment section. We're rolling here, Patrick.
01:51:02
Speaker
Yeah, we'll argue with anyone. We love it. Bring it on. It's ah it's all in good fun. But yes, thank you for all the support once again. And yeah, CFL playoffs, just get in there, get involved. it's It's part of Canadian tradition, I would argue. The snow starts to fall, and the CFL playoffs begin, and that's right where we are in that season. So yeah, bundle up and watch the Argos take down the red blocks on Saturday. Hell yeah, that'll do it for us this week. Until next week, I'll see you, Patrick. See you, Damian.
