The Amazing Rewatch: Hi, everybody. Welcome to episode 2 of season 20. Of the amazing. brace. And the amazing rewatch. And we are...
The Amazing Rewatch: Headed. Not headed. We are in. Argentina. Staying in Argentina, right? Yes. So we were in an area. I just watched this yesterday. How did I forget already? We were in an area of Argentina, like the northwest.
The Amazing Rewatch: um kind of like a more remote area. But... Rachel and Dave are the first team to depart and their clue says drive to the Cafete Town Square and wait for the...
The Amazing Rewatch: Trusky. which is a mounted postman. Who will deliver your next clue? Did I say 246? Um, Maybe.
The Amazing Rewatch: And then Brendan and Rachel at 248, Art and JJ 249. When they get to the town square they're told he's not going to arrive until sunrise so this is an equalizer for everyone. Yep.
The Amazing Rewatch: nary and jamie at 321 vanessa and ralph 331 andrew and elliot 421 Carrie and Stacey, 523. Dave and Sherry, 527. Mark and Bopper, 529. joeyanddanny535
The Amazing Rewatch: So they all get to the town square and they wait. And the clue they get there is a detour. And the choices are. Boil my water or light my fire. Did you um write down? how much money they had for this leg.
The Amazing Rewatch: mm -hmm The subtitles said $344.
The Amazing Rewatch: But it looked like they maybe only had $44 in their hand. And I can't imagine what they would have needed $344 for. a bus ticket Oh, maybe.
The Amazing Rewatch: It's a long bus ride. That is a long bus ride. We will get to that. So anyway, they do have some money that they did notice or that they did point out and they don't do that. As much as they used to. yeah Like maybe once or twice a season, we see how much money they get.
The Amazing Rewatch: um Okay, so these detour choices. Boil my water. They have to visit one of three villages and assemble a solar kitchen using only the picture on the side of the box.
The Amazing Rewatch: They carefully position the kitchen in direct sunlight and place a tea kettle on the The dish. Once the kettle has come to a boil and whistles, they'll get the next clue.
The Amazing Rewatch: And then light my fire. is they gather firewood and clay by the riverbank, load it onto a donkey, and transport it one mile to the local pottery shop. Yeah, so... I've...
The Amazing Rewatch: feel like we would have chosen. Light my fire. Yeah. Because... Some people say that they purposely don't choose detours that have animals.
The Amazing Rewatch: But... This one is like... Seems way faster. Yeah. By the description. Yeah. And... By actual. Time.
The Amazing Rewatch: Yeah. Because Art and JJ are the only ones to choose. light my fire. All of the others choose boil my water. Yeah. And. So there's three different locations that they can set these.
The Amazing Rewatch: Kitchen's up. And... Some people... don't seem to struggle a lot with like the assembly. Mark and Bob are actually like... do Do it really quickly. Really quickly.
The Amazing Rewatch: And. Art and JJ are like driving by these villages and like seeing all the other teams. And they're like, oh, should we stop? No, we don't want to. They say it's only eight o 'clock in the morning. Like the sun is barely up. It's going to take a long time for a solar kitchen.
The Amazing Rewatch: To boil water. yeah And they are right. And they get lost. And... Then find the detour. And they still finish second. Yeah.
The Amazing Rewatch: Yeah. And. Some people do actually struggle with making the... the um kitchens and like Dave and Sherry they didn't see that there is a picture of the Yeah, on the box. Floor panel on the box.
The Amazing Rewatch: And they're at the same. Location as Rachel and Dave. and at one point they're like don't know what they're even doing really and they walk over they're like Oh, look at that beautiful solar panel. Wow, that's so beautiful. We just have to admire it. It's so amazing. and they're Like you're not fooling anybody. They're like, there's a picture on the box. They're like, are you serious? and so I finally figured it out, but yeah. ah Mark and Bopper.
The Amazing Rewatch: are actually the first to get the clue. And. It says... Um... Take an 18 -hour bus ride to Buenos Aires and find the Mercado de Hacienda de Lineares. Yes. to find your next clue.
The Amazing Rewatch: And that's a long bus ride. Yes. So all the other teams are kind of figuring out. the Solar panel and getting their water boiled and getting to the bus stop There is a first kind of group of teams that gets on a first bus that is. Mark and Bopper, Art and JJ, Rachel and Dave, and Brendan and Rachel.
The Amazing Rewatch: And then there's a second bus that doesn't seem like it leaves too long after and that has Carrie and Stacey. No. No, sorry. It has a... Andrew and Elliot, Ralph and Vanessa, Dave and Sherry, and Joey and Danny.
The Amazing Rewatch: Yeah. And then. There's a third bus. it Seems like they just barely missed the second bus, the way they edit it. But ah it has Nary and Jamie and Carrie and Stacey.
The Amazing Rewatch: Yeah. And Nary and Jamie, they were the last to leave the detour. And they mentioned that they waited for 45 minutes for the water to boil. Yeah. and And that's time godsation after they already built the thing. Yeah. So. Yeah.
The Amazing Rewatch: It's a really long time to wait. And you just have to sit there. Yeah. and Stare. ah watch ah Dave and Sherry. Yeah. They're like.
The Amazing Rewatch: Water doesn't boil when you watch it, so let's turn around and they... like jokingly like turn the other way yeah and Yeah. that's the saying i guess watching it's like watching water boil the watched pot never boils yeah something like that So.
The Amazing Rewatch: Suddenly, the turn the screen turns black yeah and there's this dramatic crashing and glass breaking. And it turns out the second bus is one of the windows in that bus. like um Shattered.
The Amazing Rewatch: Yeah. we don't really know how um So they had to stop and they said they put him like. Two hours. like two hour delay. So now the third bus passes them and turns into the second bus.
The Amazing Rewatch: The first bus arrives, they get to Argentina and they all get in their taxis and head to this place. um the Mercado de Hacienda.
The Amazing Rewatch: I don't know. Delinears. Yeah. which is the world's largest cattle market. Yeah. And the clue is a roadblock and it says, where's the beef? So at this largest cattle market in the world.
The Amazing Rewatch: where auctioneers sell up to 13 ,000 cattle every day. The teams have to listen for the auctioneer to yell out the total weight of the cattle in one of the corrals. They quickly count the number of cattle in the corral and calculate the average weight per head while the auction is still going and before the auctioneer moves on to the next corral. And they can't use a calculator.
The Amazing Rewatch: Yeah. i this We were just talking last episode about things that we'll have to... do if we're ever on the race. Brush up on our long division skills. Long division. i Yeah, I honestly wouldn't be able to do it right now. I know. I had been like, ooh.
The Amazing Rewatch: ah Yeah. Yeah. um, Anyways, this is very, uh... Timely. Because there's like an... thing a whole thing going on with beef in Argentina right now.
The Amazing Rewatch: Oh, I've heard a little bit about this but not a whole lot. um Are you going to tell us? Yeah, what's going on? Okay. So...
The Amazing Rewatch: America is suddenly buying a lot more Argentina. 15 beef. um In the first half of 2026, shipments to the United States nearly tripled. reaching roughly 54 ,000 tons.
The Amazing Rewatch: Um...
The Amazing Rewatch: The beef consumption in Argentina has actually fallen dramatically because they're exporting so much beef. and
The Amazing Rewatch: They... Hold on a second. I have to find out more.
The Amazing Rewatch: Okay, so the US government dramatically increased Argentina's beef quota. So what people are saying is that the US is purchasing beef from Argentina rather than from... like the United States.
The Amazing Rewatch: because they... can get it cheaper from there. and Um. It's like... If American wants... to pay more but Like.
The Amazing Rewatch: The cattle ranchers are struggling while we are paying more and more money for other people to raise our beef. So why not just buy our own beef? It doesn't make sense. And then... I had, there's like people saying that the beef in Argentina, the people of Argentina don't have like the USDA or.
The Amazing Rewatch: like you know food regulations that we have and they have there's like poison in their beef and it can come here because It's... grown there. But once it gets here, it still has the poison in it and stuff. But that's not true. And that's like.
The Amazing Rewatch: What a propaganda. Yeah. so Um,
The Amazing Rewatch: Analysts think that Argentine exports could grow another 50 % over the next four years. and So... It would basically change the economics of beef.
The Amazing Rewatch: from more in Argentina and the United States. drastically. And... But... The Argentine consumers are saying... This is our national staple and it's getting too expensive.
The Amazing Rewatch: and it just doesn't really seem to make sense for anybody. So. And it's the government that's buying it? Yeah. um
The Amazing Rewatch: Like working with. The... Javier Millay is like... the
The Amazing Rewatch: politician in Argentina. working with the United States on like these deals and things like that so like um tariffs and taxes and export prices and all this stuff like that and they're just working together to Make it cheaper for us to get it from Argentina, but make it...
The Amazing Rewatch: more expensive for argentine locals to buy it. And making it cheaper for us to get it from Argentina that makes it so people... So we don't buy it from the United States. Don't buy US
The Amazing Rewatch: Cattle people struggle. Yeah. That doesn't seem like it makes any sense. Yeah. But what do I know? Yeah, I'm not a an economist, but just...
The Amazing Rewatch: Argentina and beef has been. in the news lately. Yeah. So anyways, we're talking a lot about a beef this episode. um You already said that they have to...
The Amazing Rewatch: How will they have to do? Yes. And we said that we wouldn't be able to do long division right now. I wouldn't at least. Yeah. I think if you put it in front of me, I literally would be like.
The Amazing Rewatch: i I know. I'm like even trying to like rack my brain. I'm like, where? how do you even start? You put the big number and then like the divide sign and then the little number on the outside. But after that... Yeah.
The Amazing Rewatch: I don't even know Maybe if it was like 20. I could do it. But it's down to like a decimal. Right. this the answer. I don't know what the decimal is but...
The Amazing Rewatch: Well, it each One is different. Because they're in their corrals, aren't they? And they have to give him the answer before he starts with the next round. Yeah.
The Amazing Rewatch: So yeah. So... Rachel of Rachel and Dave is doing the roadblock. Rachel of Rachel and Brendan is doing the Roblox. JJ and Mark, they're kind of like the first.
The Amazing Rewatch: um set of teams there and Mark is like He's like, I'm really good at math. I should be good at this one. And Rachel. Other. brendan and rachel rachel i know this could be really hard we should say like green rachel Rachel Green.
The Amazing Rewatch: Rachel Green, yeah. Rachel Green. She immediately like immediately is like, I'm not. good at math. Yeah. And starts to freak out. Uh, like. Immediately. Yeah. so So... Um,
The Amazing Rewatch: We said that Rachel and JJ worked it out together and got it quickly. No. Okay. Other Rachel. What's her name going to be? I know. Blonde Rachel and brunette Rachel, I guess we could say that.
The Amazing Rewatch: Yeah. I feel like her hair is red though. isn't it maybe it's not well i don't think naturally red i think it's well yeah i think she's brunette military rachel So blonde Rachel and JJ were together.
The Amazing Rewatch: and they pass it off first, and they get the clue, and it says teams must now make their way back to by taxi to the famous Gomero tree. A 200 -year -old rubber tree for the pit stop for this leg of the race. The last human chicken in may be eliminated.
The Amazing Rewatch: Um, Yeah, Rachel. Brunette Rachel is getting stressed. And Mark and Rachel decide to work together. again we haven't got to the point which was very nice ah of mark oh yeah i don't think that rachel would have figured it out if she was left to her own devices no and she didn't like offer any
The Amazing Rewatch: They were working together. He did it for her. Yeah, he gave her the answer. Yeah. And we're still at the point of the show where your teammate can say stuff during the roadblock. Yeah, because they're like, help Rachel, work together. Go ask Mark if you can help. He'll help you. Go work together.
The Amazing Rewatch: Yeah. So, she was really stressed out during that. She's like... was in tears or i don't know she just like looked so stressed.
The Amazing Rewatch: so when she gets the clue and they go out to the taxi and she's like telling brendan like i'm so sorry i'm so sorry he's like no you did great but then He gets frustrated because apparently it's kind of confusing. They don't say it.
The Amazing Rewatch: very clearly but like rachel had asked their taxi when they dropped him off to only wait five minutes and they took longer than five minutes so the taxi left Hmm. And he says that he's like, Rachel told the taxi to leave after five minutes. And then she was like. Dope! Blame me! you said you weren't gonna blame me yeah and she gets really emotional her first meltdown and Brendan is like, I'm sorry, I'm sorry. And they're in the taxi and he's like telling her how sorry he is for making her feel feel bad.
The Amazing Rewatch: And she just like stares at the camera yeah with like. a glare. And is not having it. um before we get to so we were in Argentina already we have been in Argentina before we've been Buenos Aires before talked a little bit about Argentina and the area we were in last time but I'll just give you a little bit of info about. Buenos.
The Amazing Rewatch: Aris. Peace. specifically um It's one of Latin America's greatest cities. It has a lot of European architecture. uh, a lot of immigrant history um It's known for tango, football.
The Amazing Rewatch: like soccer cafes, late dinners. bookstores, steak, and mate. It's on the shore of the... Rio de la Plata.
The Amazing Rewatch: um It's... Um... Has about 3 million people. while the greater metropolitan area has about 15 or 16 million people. which is about one third of and Argentina's entire population.
The Amazing Rewatch: Um...
The Amazing Rewatch: Residents of Buenos... Arrists are called porteños, meaning people of the port. um It's divided into 48.
The Amazing Rewatch: neighborhoods. that can feel remarkably different from one another. Buenos Aires was actually... Found it twice. The Spanish explorer Pedro de Mendoza established a settle of settlement there in 1536.
The Amazing Rewatch: But attacks, food store shortages, and isolation caused the settlement to be abandoned in 1580. Spanish colonist Juan de Grey founded the city again. and the city settlement survived.
The Amazing Rewatch: Um... For much of the Spanish colonial period, Spain tried to control trade. And Buenos Aires' location made that system inconvenient, so smuggling became a major part of the local economy.
The Amazing Rewatch: Um... The May Revolution of 1810 began. began here and Remove the Spanish. Viceroy from power. and declared independence from Spain in 1816.
The Amazing Rewatch: um One of the most important things to understand about... Buenos Aires is a massive immigrant. Immigration that transformed it during the late 1800s and early 1900s. Millions of Europeans immigrated to Argentina, especially Italians, Spaniards, French, Germans, Eastern Europeans.
The Amazing Rewatch: Eastern Europeans. Europeans. Yeah. and Jewish communities from Europe. Italian immigration was particularly enormous.
The Amazing Rewatch: That's one reason why Argentine Spanish sounds so distinctive. because it's heavily influenced by so Italian speech patterns. That's interesting. um Known as the Paris of the South, which like I feel like we've heard. The Venice of the East. Yeah, the Venice of the. Yeah.
The Amazing Rewatch: Um... Why isn't... why isn't Paris the Buenos Aires of the North? yeah like Well. like Because Paris was there first, I think.
The Amazing Rewatch: maybe Well. I don't know I don't know where people were there. People were first, but architecture was, yeah. and yeah Yeah. Um, wealthy argentines wanted their capital to resemble european capitals particularly paris so they hired french and European architects.
The Amazing Rewatch: Why did they... go there like why Why Argentina and why did they leave? Who? The people that... Move to Argentina. What do you mean, why did they leave? Like, was there...
The Amazing Rewatch: Was it? Why did they leave Argentina? No, why did they leave Europe? Oh, during that time. I think there was just um in those areas, obviously. I think Argentina was more accepting of immigrants in that time than other countries, especially like Jewish immigrants. Hmm.
The Amazing Rewatch: Um, And then I know after the war. A lot of Nazis went to Argentina. Because the Argentine government. was also fascist.
The Amazing Rewatch: And they were accepting of Nazis. So a lot of Nazis actually hid in Argentina. Um, after World War II. That reminds me of... Not reminds me that this just happened today. I went on a very sad. grab a hole today oh no no Because I told you yesterday, I think that...
The Amazing Rewatch: Um. Like. For that river cruiser flying home from Munich. and the Yeah. Is it Dachau or Dachau? I've always heard Dachau. Yeah. Dachau concentration camp was like right outside of Munich. Mm -hmm.
The Amazing Rewatch: And I just like looked at pictures of it. And it already made me like, oh. I don't know if I could do that. Yeah. But I was just like looking at Tours and like...
The Amazing Rewatch: Drivers and and anyway. Um...
The Amazing Rewatch: Just a long... Like, it started with looking at the concentration camp and then... Um. How many? Kids. That one.
The Amazing Rewatch: it was not a I shouldn't have looked that up. And like word. Did Germans know about this? Like the general public. like Or was it...
The Amazing Rewatch: Kind of a secret. And it's kind of debated. Yeah. they they Especially the people that lived nearby the concentration camps that they definitely knew about it. But like, what do you... do Because if you say something or.
The Amazing Rewatch: revolt against it, then you die too. Right. So. or help people. So. Anyway, it was. probably about an hour that I was like, just.
The Amazing Rewatch: Looking at random. subjects. holocaust yeah adjacent and it was Really sad. Yeah. There's a... Um... TV show on Amazon Prime called...
The Amazing Rewatch: Oof. Dang it. Let me... Yeah. I wish I had. Just in my mind and I didn't have to look it up.
The Amazing Rewatch: it's Really good. It's like Based off of... True events, but it's not A true story. Some of it's a little... fantastical i guess you could say yeah About hunters. And it's about like in the.
The Amazing Rewatch: 60s and um like these Nazi hunters. And... In the TV show. um They got a... argentina and Hitler didn't actually die he faked his death and went to Argentina but there were actually a lot of Nazis in Argentina after the war We've been to a city before that.
The Amazing Rewatch: On the race that was like. Definitely. It looked like a German town. Like the houses and stuff. In South America? In Argentina. Oh. Yeah. So yeah, definitely some.
The Amazing Rewatch: German influence. Yeah. um We talk about Argentina. quite a bit like And when we... Talk about it.
The Amazing Rewatch: I... Always say I want to go there. If I want to go to... anywhere in South America, I want to go to Argentina. Yeah. It's a big country, too. It seems very... diverse and that Salta. area that we were in. last episode and like the beginning of this episode i guess um My.
The Amazing Rewatch: friend kyle norlander Shout out if you're listening, but that's where he went on his mission. Hmm. End. So and. I noticed in the episode... um Dogs.
The Amazing Rewatch: Like in the streets. And he mentioned that in like emails and stuff. He's like, there's so many stray dogs here. It's crazy. Really? Yeah. So. Just... kind of a I think I put together there.
The Amazing Rewatch: Um... Well, back to the race. Our teams are arriving to the pit stop. Team number one are... Dave and Rachel. This is our second number one in a row and they went on a trip to Granada.
The Amazing Rewatch: Bye, Lynn. And then it's team number two are Art and JJ. And they're like. Wanted to win really bad. They're very competitive. And number three are Bopper and Mark.
The Amazing Rewatch: So they did really good. And Brendan and Rachel are number four.
The Amazing Rewatch: So... The second Bus, which was the third bus to leave. um arrives And they. I think that they're racing for last place and there's just the two teams, the two.
The Amazing Rewatch: Grace. Mm hmm. Girl teams, um, Nary and. Jamie and Stacey and Carrie. So Nary and Stacey. Do the roadblock.
The Amazing Rewatch: And then... The third bus. That was the second bus to leave. with the other four teams. arrives. Yeah. so um Vanessa.
The Amazing Rewatch: Dave of Dave and Sherry. Joey and Andrew. Are doing. The... roadblock and sherry and ralph both say like They're bad at math.
The Amazing Rewatch: and Sherry says Dave is bad at math and Ralph says Vanessa is bad at math. But Vanessa actually finishes it pretty quickly. Yeah, I don't know why he said she's bad at math because... And she did it without help. On the first try. so He underestimated her. yeah But Carrie and Stacey end up being team five and they are kind of surprised because they thought that they were on the last bus. And Mary and Jamie are team six and also surprised and happy.
The Amazing Rewatch: So now we are back to... The roadblock. Joey and Andrew decide to work together and they purposefully Don't help Dave because they can see that he's struggling. Yeah.
The Amazing Rewatch: It's kind of sad. I know. You can see him shaking. Like when the camera is on him, he's like shaking so hard and he is just like. Trying. His best and... When they walk by him, he's like, help me, help me. Like, kind of like in a joking way. And they don't. And it's really sad. Yeah.
The Amazing Rewatch: But... Also... Yeah. You know There's some situations that... You can help like if they were the first three teams.
The Amazing Rewatch: That, you know, but. Yes, but they're the last three. Knowing that they are. likely last because their bus was delayed so long they figured that the other bus probably passed them and dave tries multiple times and Keeps getting it wrong.
The Amazing Rewatch: And Sherry starts getting emotional and she's like, this is the absolute worst thing that we could have picked for him to do. That's so sad. To the point where like. When we go back to him, there's not even any cows there anymore. I know.
The Amazing Rewatch: They like sold all the cows already. they They're like basically just you have to figure out. this problem and we'll give it to you. Yeah. So Vanessa and Ralph are team seven. Joey and Danny are team eight. Elliot and Andrew are team nine.
The Amazing Rewatch: and yeah they go back like there's no people there there's hardly any cows there he finally gets it And they... Our last two arrive and they are eliminated. David Shuri.
The Amazing Rewatch: Yeah. I didn't think they were going to last very long. They're nice people but they just didn't seem very strong. Um. Except for he's beat cancer twice, so that's pretty strong.
The Amazing Rewatch: Yeah. Pretty. intense and Well, actually, he's beat cancer for a third time now. Wow. in current day. So he just recently, I think.
The Amazing Rewatch: Uh... Um...
The Amazing Rewatch: On November 29th of 20... twenty four So I guess that was it. Almost two years ago. ah Sherry says, I'm grateful and extremely happy that Dave made it to his 57th birthday. There were months this year that we weren't sure if he was going to make it.
The Amazing Rewatch: Hmm. He's the love of my life and he had a great birthday. And they they celebrated. An anniversary in February.
The Amazing Rewatch: Hold on, I gotta scroll back up. where do you I'm not surprised that they're still together. Not surprised. I'm not very surprised. Yeah. Yeah. So they. Yep. Are still together, still clowning.
The Amazing Rewatch: And.
The Amazing Rewatch: Oh, yeah. In February, they celebrated their 34th anniversary. Nice. They actually, they have a website. For their clown.
The Amazing Rewatch: company It seems like it's just the two of them. I don't think they have kids and they just kind of like travel the country and like do. shows um kind of like educational shows in a As clowns.
The Amazing Rewatch: Yeah, you would think that. They seem very parental. And maybe they do. I just can't find any evidence of it on their social media. Like all of their pictures are only of them too. And it doesn't like mention anything.
The Amazing Rewatch: And. Like their bio, I don't think.
The Amazing Rewatch: We don't read the bios anymore because we decided that nobody listens anyway. and You guys can look it up if you want to. Yeah. Yeah, I don't, I...
The Amazing Rewatch: It doesn't say anything about kids on their bio, so. I just, I don't think that they... Have them.
The Amazing Rewatch: um And so their race average was nine. They took eighth in the first leg and 10th in the second leg. And... That's pretty much. All.
The Amazing Rewatch: ah There is about them. As far as like trivia and. statistics and stuff. So. Okay. Well, I think we'll be leaving Argentina. I don't know if we'll be leaving South America.
The Amazing Rewatch: Yeah, because we just went a long way. Buenos Aires for one task. Yeah. But they did do that last season. I can't remember where it was, but they...
The Amazing Rewatch: They went a long way to do one thing and then left. The next. Yeah. We figured maybe it was because they just needed them to be. Like. In the major city. At the bigger airport. So it could be a situation like that. Actually, I'm gonna look it up because I'm curious.
The Amazing Rewatch: So... We've been in Argentina for two legs.
The Amazing Rewatch: Maybe staying. you so You guess. Staying in South America. Mmm, yeah.
The Amazing Rewatch: Okay, hold on.
The Amazing Rewatch: next
The Amazing Rewatch: Okay. You're right. I don't. I don't know if we've been here before.
The Amazing Rewatch: Peace. Hm? On the race. Or in real life. We have never been to this place. In South America? Personally, yes, because we have not been to South America. Okay, I was like...
The Amazing Rewatch: What? um Yeah, I think it's a new country. but i Maybe. I'm not for sure. so Surprise. Coming up on the Ahem. beginning of the next episode to see where we're going.
The Amazing Rewatch: Tune in. For episode three, there's a fly flying around my head. I know. I've had flies in my house lately and they're annoying me. disappear. And thanks for listening. I think that's all.
The Amazing Rewatch: Okay. Goodbye. Bye.
