The Amazing Rewatch: um So Rachel and Brendan ask the bus driver. They like go up there like, how do we buy tickets? to... for this bus and art and JJ are already on the bus. And they're like, oh my gosh, they don't know anything. They're so stupid. They don't even read their clues. Yeah.
The Amazing Rewatch: So... Brennan. Brendan and Rachel... are like while they're buying their tickets the bus leaves. With the other. three teams on them. And Rachel gets really mad.
The Amazing Rewatch: She's like, you can make all the decisions from now on. You think you do you can think you can do it on your own and you're so smart. You're just like a man, any man, and you just don't respect. things that women say and you make all the decisions and he's like Rachel, be quiet. She's like being really loud on the bus and everybody's really quiet.
The Amazing Rewatch: But... Seems like the buses come often because they leave like right away. minutes And while they're on the bus, Brendan... talks with a guy sitting next to him and he speaks English and he helps them when they get to the next station. To buy the tickets at the ticket counter and find the... For the train. Yeah, for the train. And they actually get tickets first before all the other teams. So...
The Amazing Rewatch: and then Well, like Rachel and Dave. So. When the first bus arrives with the first three teams, they're all kind of walking towards the ticket counter together. And Vanessa and Ralph and Art and JJ are up at the ticket counter. And Rachel and Dave are kind of standing behind them. And rachel and Dave's like...
The Amazing Rewatch: I don't want to... be behind everyone like this is the last thing i want is to just be following And Rachel's like, okay. And he's like, I want to buy tickets over here. So instead of like in a person at a counter, they go to a... machine and But it's all in Japanese. They can't figure it out.
The Amazing Rewatch: And Brendan and Rachel have... somebody helping them. yeah And so... on this train. Um... That leaves at 10 o 'clock.
The Amazing Rewatch: Brendan and Rachel and RJJ and Vanessa and Ralph get on it and Rachel and Dave don't make it because they were trying to figure out the machine because Dave didn't want to follow anybody.
The Amazing Rewatch: And so... They get on a 1020 train. So quite. like 20 minutes behind But this is like the evening. Yes. So. So then they get to the ferry and they buy ferry tickets. and The three teams are on it and it's leaving in like three minutes and Rachel and Dave are just getting off the train.
The Amazing Rewatch: and they don't make that very leaves it's the last one of the evening And the next one's not until 625 in the morning. Yeah. And. I think Rachel says, well, that was $1 million dollars for one minute waste. Or Dave says. That was $1 million dollars for one minute wasted.
The Amazing Rewatch: It's like, well, you're the one. You were the one that didn't want to. Yeah. Why is everybody so worried about that? Being a follower. yeah It's like... More obvious this season than... Anything that I remember specifically. but So the ferry arrives at the island and the clue says...

The Amazing Rewatch: so all teams are there when the sun comes up and in the distance this man pulls up with a cart with these baskets in the cart And the clue says make your way to Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park and find the A -bomb dome.
The Amazing Rewatch: And. So they go do that. And at this Peace Memorial Park, it seems like you have to be like... You're not running and you have to be quiet and respectful. And they're kind of appreciating the history and the significance of it. and Then they get the clue.
The Amazing Rewatch: Yeah. It's interesting to like hear. the perspectives of everybody. And. Oh, i would I like thought about like... learning about world war ii and everything in school and it's like I was always taught.
The Amazing Rewatch: Like... The atomic bomb. was necessary. Because if Japan attacked the U .S., they would have made it to the Mississippi River before we could have stopped them. Yeah.

The Amazing Rewatch: First time to Japan And who. Hiroshima is... An island in... It's on Japan's largest island.
The Amazing Rewatch: and Wait, it is an island or it's on? I mean, I know Japan is an island, but is it like a smaller island? It's on Japan's largest island. Oh, okay, okay, okay. And.
The Amazing Rewatch: There was about 1 .2 million residents in 2025. It's one of Japan's major regional cities. and This it was the first census to census population decline since.
The Amazing Rewatch: post -war.
The Amazing Rewatch: Um, This Hiroshima or Hiroshima, I don't know, was founded as a castle town in 1589. When... Hiroshima. castle was built.
The Amazing Rewatch: And. In the 19th and 20th centuries, it became a military and transportation center. and expanded considerably during Japan's wars in Asia.
The Amazing Rewatch: By the early 1940s, the population had reached about 400 ,000. And because of the military importance, it was. a factor and becoming America's target during World War II.
The Amazing Rewatch: Um... At 8 .15 a .m. on August 6, 1945, an American B -29 bomber dropped an atomic bomb nicknamed Little Boy over Hiroshima. The bomb detonated approximately 600 meters above the city. It was the first nuclear weapon ever used against people in war. The effects were extraordinary. Temperatures near the center region. estimated 4 ,000 degrees Celsius.
The Amazing Rewatch: Oh my gosh. And nearly every building within roughly... Two kilometers was destroyed. About 90 % of... The buildings were damaged. brought About 140 ,000 people. died by the end of 1940. Five.
The Amazing Rewatch: Although precise numbers can never be known, some died instantly. and many others died later from burns, injuries, and radiation and exposure. Three days later on August 9th, the United States dropped a second bomb on Nagasaki.
The Amazing Rewatch: and Japan announced its surrender on August 15th. And the atomic bomb. dome which is where they're at on this episode is one of the most recognizable structures that partially survived intact because it was extremely close.
The Amazing Rewatch: because it was extremely close to the hypocenter. Um,
The Amazing Rewatch: It has deliberately been preserved in its ruined state. The contrast is striking when you visit modern Hiroshima. around this ruined shell. and One of the most interesting parts of... The history is how rapidly people began rebuilding. Immediately after the bombing, there were Predictions that the area might remain barren for decades. Instead, plants began returning and residents began reconstructing their lives almost immediately.
The Amazing Rewatch: and The population eventually pre -war peak in 1958. and exceeded 1 million in 1985.
The Amazing Rewatch: Rather than simply memorializing its destruction, Hiroshima has deliberately developed an identity around peace and nuclear disarmament. At the center of this is Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park.
The Amazing Rewatch: Every August 6th, they hold a peace memorial ceremony. It begins with a festival and... Um... A ceremony throughout the day.
The Amazing Rewatch: And one of Japan's most ah famous sites is the... Miyajima. Like that. Um... Gate.

The Amazing Rewatch: The atomic bomb dome is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It's one of Japan's major oyster producing regions and oysters are a local specialty. They do have Japan.
The Amazing Rewatch: And the city. Yes. Okay. A replica of that is there. Oh, remember the drummers? Oh, yeah yeah. Yeah. Okay. The city is about an hour and 20 minutes from Osaka. and roughly four hours from Tokyo.
The Amazing Rewatch: on the train Depending on the train. The bullet trains. The Fast Train. It's a large, busy Japanese city with baseball, nightlife, food, university shopping.
The Amazing Rewatch: rivers and parks and but have intentionally preserved history while building an identity around survival and peace. Yeah.

The Amazing Rewatch: Old. studio Yes. And these taxi drivers took them to the old studio. So Art and JJ... But yes, they were in a taxi and they do arrive first. And it is a roadblock and it says, who wants to bring home the chicken?
The Amazing Rewatch: So. I don't think that they had any question about what they were doing. If they're going to a Japanese ah japanese TV studio, you know, they're going to be doing some. crazy game show task. Yeah.
The Amazing Rewatch: And it's art that's going to do this. he He gets dressed in knee pads and a helmet and... So what they have to do is run on this like moving track and jump up and grab three rubber chickens hanging from the ceiling.
The Amazing Rewatch: And they... fall they kind of like get like pushed back on the moving track into a Pile of balloons. And they have to. They don't have to start over, but they just have to get all three chickens. And then at the end.
The Amazing Rewatch: They have to jump onto... like a mat at the end. Yeah. From... the beginning like they can't just like start at the end and jump Anyway. So.
The Amazing Rewatch: All the other teams are like trying to find this building And I think Art finishes the roadblock and gets out of there before. Anybody has even come in, right? Yeah.
The Amazing Rewatch: Um. And it looks... The chickens are like... high off of that track like they have to jump pretty high yeah And that's...
The Amazing Rewatch: And it doesn't seem like it's moving super slow either. yeah They have to. Run pretty fast. Run pretty fast and jump pretty high. And it would be pretty hard to do. But it doesn't.

The Amazing Rewatch: is going to do the detour. i don't know why she has to Oh, yeah, she has to. I think at this point they're like. If you've already done five, the other person has to do it because they're like making it even to go into the last leg. So Vanessa has to do this one.
The Amazing Rewatch: And then Brendan does it and... Rachel from Rachel and Dave. Does it? But obviously we know that. um Vanessa's ankle is hurting her really bad. So to just be running and jumping is not a good. Yeah. Not good.
The Amazing Rewatch: Um, Brendan finishes it pretty quickly and Rachel finishes it pretty quickly as well. And Vanessa is struggling. She's just like. She keeps falling.
The Amazing Rewatch: She... When she tries to jump, she falls down, she... It looks like she like. keeps like rolling her ankle every time she falls and she it really does look like she's in pain so this this is a really memorable moment for her me from this season when we were watching it. Yeah.
The Amazing Rewatch: back in the day And she's like really upset and crying. And she's like, I'm so sorry. And Ralph's like, you don't have to apologize to me. And. He keeps telling her to take the penalty. Like, you don't have to do this. This is not worth it. yeah And she's like, I have to finish. and He's like, no, you don't.
The Amazing Rewatch: And at one point she gets all three chickens, but she has to like run back and has a hard time with that. And she jumps on, but her body. Like the momentum, she falls off. and Yeah. That's to do it again.
The Amazing Rewatch: Um, so yeah it's just Great. Looks really hard and... Like it really sucks. Yeah. It doesn't look easy even when your body is working. And they do show her ankle while this is happening and it looks terrible. Yeah.
The Amazing Rewatch: okay um Art and JJ arrive to the Skybridge and the clues... are on those Well... Touch PC, Windows 7 touch PCs. Which was like state -of -the -art technology yeah at the time. And yeah, R and JJ arrive there first and the clues are the detour.
The Amazing Rewatch: and they are sushi or sumo. Yeah. No. It's bingo shout out or photo cut out. Oh. That's weird. So for bingo shout out, they have to...
The Amazing Rewatch: pick up sushi off a conveyor belt and place it on a bingo card as the chef calls out names of sushi teams must correctly identify the piece of sushi with a letter attached to it and match it on the bingo board when they have five in a row they yell out sushi like you would bingo And then they have to eat all five pieces to receive the next clue.
The Amazing Rewatch: And then photo cutout is pick up a camera and two life -size cutouts sumo. life -size cutouts of sumo wrestlers and convince locals in groups of three to pose for a photo.
The Amazing Rewatch: Once they've taken 10. different photos so like of three people, so 30 people total, they deliver the photos to the photographer. And I would not choose the sushi one.
The Amazing Rewatch: What? I really like sushi, but I wouldn't either. Like, it doesn't... Ew. sounds harder. Yeah. And I think it was harder. yeah Will Art and JJ choose Bingo Shoutout?
The Amazing Rewatch: And then... Brendan and Rachel and Rachel and Dave arrive at the observatory. And. Rachel and Dave choose photo cutout. And Rachel and Brendan choose bingo shout out. And then Vanessa does finish the roadblock. And it seems like they get to the place pretty quickly and they choose bingo shout out.
The Amazing Rewatch: So when Rachel and Dave are getting in their taxi. Some stuff falls out of Dave's backpack. and like rolls on the ground and he gets in and he blames rachel Yeah. For it being unzipped. like Rachel, my bag is open.
The Amazing Rewatch: She's like, okay. She's like, i i didn't um I didn't unzip your bag. Yeah, bag. She's from the Midwest. Yes. You accuse me of not trying. You accuse me of unzipping your bag.
The Amazing Rewatch: Yeah. Yeah. Why did. He yelled at her because of that. His own bag was open. But she gets like really mad that he accused her of that. Yeah. And...

The Amazing Rewatch: Vanessa and Ralph arrive to the Sky Bridge and they choose sushi. You already said that. So Art and JJ arrive to the detour. the sushi one and they're like really confused it does look Kind of complicated. Yeah, because there's some sushi that are the same in different...
The Amazing Rewatch: rows, but they have a letter on them. You have to get the right sushi. type plus the right letter that's like stuck in it yeah on top And. the right ones in a row. Yeah. So they do have two Japanese people in, they're like sitting in a restaurant booth and they have two people that are kind of helping them, telling them what is what.
The Amazing Rewatch: I would have been so lost. I don't know what any of the sushis look like. Yeah. Uh. And you would have had to eat all of them at the end. yeah Yeah. i a eat the rice hu You could have eaten the rice. Yeah.
The Amazing Rewatch: So it looks kind of complicated, but they seem to like start figuring it out. And then Rachel and Dave are starting their task and... taking pictures and they kind of struggle at first because they're not Being like. aggressive enough they're like you want a picture okay do you want a picture okay and then they kind of get in the groove and like basically a force they're like come take a picture come stand over here yeah They have to be really... Not aggressive, but yeah like. And the people don't have to pay for the picture or anything. They just have to stand there.
The Amazing Rewatch: and like get the quick photo so That seems easier than like trying to ask people for money. um And they do finish first. And it's the clue says to make your way to Osaka Castle for the pit stop.
The Amazing Rewatch: The last team to check in will be eliminated. And.
The Amazing Rewatch: Um... So Art and JJ get sushi. And they get the pit stop clue. And Vanessa and Ralph arrive to the sushi detour.
The Amazing Rewatch: And Brennan and Rachel are... still doing it and they're like fighting right brendan's grabbing the wrong letters they have so many sushi plates on their table so many like ones that they're just like Wasting.
The Amazing Rewatch: Which is like. Not the food waste, but it's just, like, they can't figure it out. Yeah. Or, like, Brendan's grabbing something that Rachel told him not to grab. And she's like, not that one! Not that one! one. The looks that she was giving him, I was like, ooh. Yeah.
The Amazing Rewatch: So team number one are Dave. And Rachel. And they went on a trip to New Zealand. And they are in the final three. and then And they have officially tied the record for the most. number one Wigs.
The Amazing Rewatch: Then Brendan and Rachel finish the detour and get the pit stop clue and... Um... Art and JJ had finished already. We said that, right?
The Amazing Rewatch: But when they get dropped off, it seems like this area around this castle is really big. And there's a few different entrances. Yeah. And so they have a hard time finding the...
The Amazing Rewatch: Pit stop. the mat and they're running around and Brendan and Rachel are dropped off and they're running around and Vanessa and Ralph finished the detour and Seems like they did it pretty fast. yeah and The way they edit it. so But it does end up being team number two are Art and JJ.
The Amazing Rewatch: And Brennan and Rachel are team number three. So they are our top three. going into the last leg. And that means Vanessa and Ralph are eliminated. Yes. Phil says that Vanessa should be proud of herself that she finished that task and Ralph gets emotional and he says, I'm proud of her. and She's the love of my life.
The Amazing Rewatch: but Is that true or are they still together? They are not. They apparently broke up immediately after they got home. I'm not surprised. No. So, okay, let's talk about Vanessa and Ralph.

The Amazing Rewatch: so they run there and get in the helicopter and Then Art and JJ arrive and JJ does this roadblock. And. Rachel's like... Do you guys have fun?

And they have to go out into the ocean and scoop up a distressed swimmer and then take them back to shore.
The Amazing Rewatch: So Rachel tells Dave, he's she's like, you need to be the one. that like is on the board. Because you have the upper body strength to pull the guy out of the water. And he's like, are you sure you can operate a wave runner? Yeah.
The Amazing Rewatch: She's like, yes. I think he really just wanted to drive it. yeah and Anyway. um So they get their guy out of the water. And they go back to shore. And the clue says make your way to the Coral Kingdom Gate and follow the marked path.
The Amazing Rewatch: uh so then art and jj arrive at this lifeguard task and it's like raining at this point so art is driving the wave wave runner the rave The Wave Runner.
The Amazing Rewatch: And JJ's on the sled, and they get their... guy and They come back. They see. to do it quickly And Brendan and Rachel arrive.
The Amazing Rewatch: And Rachel's going to drive the jet ski with Brendan on the board. Everything on this episode seems so close together. I guess except for the helicopter ride, but... like everything It's not very far to get anywhere.
The Amazing Rewatch: Well, The helicopter took them to North Shore, which is like... Because Honolulu and Waikiki is like down. on the south shore. So it does take them a ways. um So Rachel and Dave get... dropped off.

The Amazing Rewatch: So they get on. And they go across. But then Art and JJ... We see them get dropped off and they walk along this marked path and they find a clue and they open it and on the bottom it says currently in first place. So I'm like, what the? what is happening yeah so i had to rewind it i'm like did i miss something Rachel and Dave missed something. Yes, they missed a very big thing.

Um, get on these paddle boards and go all the way across this water and get to the other dock And they leave and they're like just so happy and excited right now and they're like this is it and they're like running and it's the Matt and all the teams from the season are there are clapping for them.
The Amazing Rewatch: And. Phil says... Rachel and Dave, you're the first. team to arrive. However... You. You have not completed the roadblock. Not completed the roadblock. And they're like.
The Amazing Rewatch: Oh. Okay. so he says once you go back and complete the roadblock and i can check you in Yeah. So they have to go back. They have to paddleboard all the way back. And then...
The Amazing Rewatch: have to go find the driver and... get back to this area back to the area So R and JJ are the first ones to arrive to this roadblock. And it says right 150 feet downhill and across this. the finish line.
The Amazing Rewatch: okay Did you write this down? I did. I didn't write it down. So the team member that didn't do the shaved ice has to do this one. And it's... um yeah Acting like an ancient Hawaiian warrior, ride a sled called a halua 150 feet down a hill and across the line. Then pick up a small disc -shaped lava rock called an ulu makai.
The Amazing Rewatch: Or Micah. that warriors used to use to break the ankles of their enemy. But... this you have to roll this rock 50 feet into a small goal to get the next clue.
The Amazing Rewatch: So Art is doing this and he like oils up his sled and he's like feeling all confident. They don't know they're in first place right now. No. They think that Rachel and Dave have already come and gone. Yeah.
The Amazing Rewatch: Um. And he's like going and he keeps falling off the sled. And JJ, of course, says that he could do better. Yeah. and He says. Um... i'm just I'm more athletic than Art, and I could have done that. Yeah.
The Amazing Rewatch: After the first try, like, he's... So annoying. Um. So Brendan and Rachel are finishing up the lifeguard task. And...

The Amazing Rewatch: as you go down this hill and art just like keeps like rolling off to the side and he's like covered in mud and like the spot that he's going down the hill is just like the grass is gone it's just like a big like mudslide.
The Amazing Rewatch: And. So Rachel is going to do... Blonde Rachel is gonna do this. Roadblock. And she falls the first time, but the second time she makes it down the hill. Yeah.
